"The twentieth floor of an allegedly five star hotel in downtown sydney and i say allegedly because there are military downstairs. There are security guards on my floor. And i'm not allowed to step outside the room for the next fourteen days or rather for fourteen days and i'm currently on day six of that and that's part of australia's really a strict quarantine system. There's also testing involved. I can get things ordered to the room but this is the system. They've got in place and that's how they've kept deaths under one thousand in the entire country and i've been watching the news for three days where they've been trying to hunt a single case of covid in the state of queensland and there's mass horror and a lockdown of two point five million people because they found seven cases of covid across that entire state once they begin the contact tracing. Wow and here's the thing. How many people actually live in australia like. It's a huge landmass. But what's what's the population. It's only twenty five million. So it is roughly the same as florida a little bit less than texas a little bit more than new york. So it's spread out but in this state where they've got the lockdown happening queensland only six people have died at a five million during all of covert because this are extreme with images. Okay let's go back to the beginning. Then i want to start the odyssey new york in brooklyn okay. So my mom gets the coal for having to herself fly to sydney to receive the lungs that she's been waiting for years and it's a very scary operation. It goes for seven hours but it was a success and once we knew it was a success. Then i knew that. I had to find a way to get to sydney but it was very obvious to me that that was going to be complicated from the very first step and i say that because A one way ticket from new york to sydney right now eleven thousand dollars and the reason for that is that australia has some very severe arrival caps. They don't let more than thirty people per plane and a total of six thousand people per week into the country and the effect of that is. You can only buy business or first class ticket into australia. And there aren't many flights at all and so i don't have eleven thousand dollars just to fly to trillium so i had to find another way to do it and took a lot of negotiating with people in the fiji government and then in the singapore government but i settled on a route where i went via detroit. Seoul singapore we're had to stay in a special bubble hotel for thirty two hours and then finally on a business class flight from singapore to sydney name. And by doing it. That way. I did it for four thousand seven hundred dollars instead of eleven thousand dollars if you had flown direct and coughed up. Eleven thousand six hundred dollars. Would you have had any of these problems. A no not all of these problems but certainly some of them like the testing issue Still could have been an issue even though it would have been easier to basically get the test and not break any of the timing rules. I certainly would have happened a lot quicker. That's for sure. I also think it would have taken longer probably to get onto a flight. I think there's more competition for the flights coming back from the us and so my point is that even a year into the pandemic still thirty six thousand australians stranded overseas because they can't afford the ticket to get back and so they constantly try and buy the ticket. They can't afford and see if there's a slot on the aircraft and usually they get bumped not possible so i think yes. If you just pay the eleven thousand you can buy your way out but even then even then sometimes there's probably thirty one people who are willing to pay twelve thousand and if your soccer who's got the thirty first most expensive ticket then you're the one who gets bumped off that flight and i didn't really want to sort of be in that situation. I feel like your travels gave you a window into the future of international travel. Tell me what your experience taught you about. The future of international travel business. And how we're going to connect the world again. Well it matters economically because tourism's a huge industry there are countries where it is the biggest industry and there's a lot of travel that isn't strictly holiday related but if you think about for example. The millions of students who travel to study in a different country each year that is lost income to all of those countries where the students travel to. It keeps families apart. You know i can honestly tell you that the tragic story of one of my own family members where i had a cousin who was dying far too young. It happened fairly quickly and his brother lived in france and he did the same thing. I did to get back. And he was in the hotel quarantine and his brother died on the final day the fourteenth day of the hotel quarantine and they wouldn't let him out to say goodbye and there are lots of situations like that around the world so so it does matter that things can open up again but because we have this very uneven vaccine rollout and we already live in an unequal world. That's colliding with the fact that these covert control systems a different in every single country right. So you're essentially in a situation where none of these systems of standardized everyone does it in a slightly different way so it's extremely annoying a traveler and everyone's at a slightly different pot of the vaccine rollout. Everyone had a slightly different experience of covert. And what worked for them. So it's just going to be very very slow opening back up again to get to the point of the mass tourism that we knew twenty nine thousand nine like if we tried to do that. Now it would be absolute hell. Kale's there's truly no way for that to happen in the next few months based on what i've just gone through over the past month it is far too difficult for people and so we are looking at these travel difficulties extending into two thousand twenty two hundred percent belief. Wow this is you know. Is this concerning like. i guess. We're all thinking we're going to be out seeing the world but the truth is just because we're getting vaccines doesn't mean the rest of the world as it's that's another reason why it's important to realize that the vaccine situation is a global game so i think joe biden has made a smart political. Move to say that. Americans will be vaccinated with american doses and money. I but it's also in america's interest to make sure that everyone in the world gets vaccinated and that they don't lose out in a diplomatic war to countries like china and russia who certainly donating vaccines around the world so it it will be critical for your own personal vacation and for broader use interest for the us to get into that game of donating doses of vaccines. And you know a lot about this vaccine brawl with the latest on that you've written extensively on it. Yeah i think that the us really missed a trick by not being willing to come up with some strategic donations early on. I think that the defense production act allows for a lot of ramping up of production capacity and it could allow for the us to be exporting some doses now already for example like the eu has sent. Roughly one does to other countries for every dose that it has shared amongst its own members. It's the same with india. China hasn't worried so much about vaccinating at home yet. And it's quite happy to sort of send all of those those abroad and russia in a bit of a weird situation where russians don't trust the russian government so they don't want the vaccine for that reason which means they've got plenty to hand out to other countries. Yeah but because the. Us was so focused on vaccinating americans. It really lost out a lot of those sort of goodwill gestures and headlines. Let's say i would also say vaccine diplomacy right if all of these. I mean i've heard from will The islands the caribbean islands. So close to us that china is offering their vaccines to them. And it's it's allowing china to had this lasting imprint on the diplomacy and the connections where they're choosing china over us when they're so close to us like geographically and the us is making a very significant contribution to a un project called kovacs which is a an attempt to reduce the risk among all countries..

"The data indicate Professor Morse Well, it's you know very hard to say that the correlations and most of the studies in that report done earlier, which you know, obviously tried to show correlation between subway, ridership and and risk and which I think was very flood. In a number of ways on this study, which is more clearly goes much deeper and collect muchmore information in detail. You know, I don't think we should be complacent, but it does seem to indicate that even its ridership Increases. There is still not the expected increase risk, and that probably does have to do much more with the other precautions that people continue to take. So we shouldn't get complacent about it, because distancing certainly would be a helpful thing. It may not be absolutely essential. We simply don't know he would like to have it. We don't know what's gonna happen during rush hour. But in other cities like Like Tokyo, for example, they have managed even with high density Tio keep the subways quite say. And that suggests that it can be done if people are very careful, even in the absence of what we would like to say, which is additionally, social distancing, but now All the other hygiene measures. Obviously, you know, do play a role. And if you're careful, they may be enough, although we would there not ideal. And Sam. I'm going to ask you the same question and second, I just want to invite our listeners in. Do you have a question for our guests about the safety of riding last transit right now? As Sam Schwartz, on behalf of the American Public Transportation Association, has looked at data from multiple cities and concluded that there has not been much of a correlation. With upticks in Corona virus cases from people using mass transit like subways, 646435 70 to 86 46435 70 to 80 with your questions about mass transit and Corona virus safety for Sam Schwartz. And Stephen Morris for our virologists, an epidemiologist at Columbia University's mailmen School of Public Health. Who's looking at this study with independent eyes 646435 70 to 80 or Tweet a question at Brian. Let Sam I I I wonder if based on Professor Morse's answer, which indicates we started. Don't really know what will happen if it gets really crowded down there again. That there seems to potentially be This seesaw where As reported in the times. Just in the last day. Crime is going up in the subways because it's more empty. So I guess people feel more that they can get away with things. Um, but Corona viruses low. Maybe if we go back to normal. The crime goes down, but the covert transmission goes up. I don't know. But how confident are you based on the data that that you've looked at, Um during low ridership periods that the same one pertaining highlighter ship periods. So, And I think Dr Morrow retire to some of the places that are experiencing high ridership. Hong Kong has been in the seventies or even 80% ridership. With no outbreak. Tokyo Seoul Singapore. Even Paris has been over 50% in New York City. Where at about 30%, which got a long way to go before even close to what we saw prior to the epidemic. People are predicting 50% sometime in early 2021 way, have a long way to go. But the alternatives on the times, you know Had it had an earlier article talking about how the car had saved l A. And we know that that's not true anymore. Your alternative of going into the car is not a great alternative Prior to the epidemic, You're 20 times more likely. To be in a fatal fresh taking a car on a per mile basis. In the several Well, car fatalities have sore just like crime in the subway. We really need a psychologist studies that out from a behavior. It has been about a 90% increase in the rate. Of crashes involving motorcycles and cars in which they have been fatalities, either drivers market all right Interesting. And this is exactly what happened after 9 11 when people were afraid to fly, so they drove instead, and there was an increase in automobile fatalities. Let's take a phone call Barbara in the Bronx. You're on W m. I see Hide, Barbara. Hi Barbara calling from Bronx. How you doing? Thanks for taking my call I had heard in the early weeks of the pandemic. There was a figure being sighted floating around about the transmission of flu in the subway from an earlier year not from this year, and that was pretty low like 234%, and that Really kind of comforted me as a subway rider. I just wondered if your guests knew about that study and you know, And now as the months passed, we have a lot more evidence about how Corona is transmitted. Is that something that we should still be thinking about? Thank you. Thank you who wanted I know that Louis a reasonable 11 you both wanted. What's watching No first. Okay? Yeah, there was a study and and if I recall them back in 11 4012 It was a model and it found the transmission was probably in the subway somewhere in the four per cent range as father mentioned, But Mars come probably answer that better. No, I think that that's a good answer. I think that the transmission of flu this is a little more transmissible than flu. Perhaps Somewhat more, but but in fact that's good parallel, I think, and we know that we don't see flew in the summer in New York, except during the 2009 pandemic, another unusual times. Because we all write the subway. We're all together and we don't see flu. So I think there is good evidence that there isn't as much flu transmission in the subway. I think with masks were all much safer. There's a lot of evidence..

Let's see went up from five requests per second to twenty five requests per second along you to issue as many as two point one million certificates day. That's a huge. This provides better support for us that require a large number certificates in a short period of time examples such as manufacturing IOT devices or securing service service traffic in a service match. So these are only available to the customer or by seem to get also tools that have access to these IPO ACTION. So you can avoid providers overriding your on updates as well. So it's a very useful skyline uptight. Also there's a new workflow status field being added to the security funding format at the s if to the console previously customers use to record state as a way to track the findings were keeping the records site object but now only finding providers will update that field customers will not easy work for status to indicate whether the finding easing notified suppressed or resolved by separating these fields it eliminates the conflict between provide updates and customer updates. "This is a pursued three hundred and eleven of AWS podcast released on may fifth twenty nineteen. Lover and a welcome back to the debates podcast live from beautiful Sydney. Australia, and I'm joined by the amazing. Nikki welcome to the podcast. Nikki, thank you so much. I'm so happy to be in Australia for the first time. We are face to face for the first time, it is very odd. It's very weird to be hearing your voice come out of you. Thanks, and you probably just hid in the Beker. We're not alone. So we've we've really upped the ante. He's we're doing a great fan. Lot of it. We have a bunch of cool folks who are here in city physi- de summit. Oh, I know come along forbid of in any prompt shoe alive eventually doing some recording. So we'll get them involved in the show a little bit lighter. But this is of course, an update show. And so we're going to wiz through a bunch of very cool updates and short program note normally when Nikki and do these we like, I said cat, see one another. And normally we use I shade quip document to just indicate when we're going to swap over talking. So this is going to be new because actually going to use context to do this. It could end horribly because you mentioned get it wrong. So it's gonna be interesting for sure, so let's get right into it. So there was a pretty big infrastructure announcement, which was the new ideas as you Pacific Hong Kong region. So not only do I have another one that I can mention when we talk about support services. But this is pretty exciting for customers. In Hong Kong. Awesome. We have a bunch of announcements in the developer tools topic. I'm really excited about all of them. So I one amplify console now supports. Playing full stacks villas applications with a single click from get hubs, and you can basically checking your code to get up and then put a deploy to amplify console button on it for other people to deploy that same project super cool. The amplifier framework had symbol of has simplified configuring o-of two point, oh, flows hosted you I and a are VR scenes for both mobile and web applications. So we now have integration into the amplify CLI with Amazon Sumerian, which is awesome. The amplify framework has announced new Amazon Aurora server graph q Ellen o-of capabilities. So if you're getting for diving deeper into this one, and you already have an Aurora service data schema set up you can now use the amplify CLI to generate a graph Q L source in apps Inc. That is your Aurora service database, very. Getting towards almost cheating level. Now is like you can say he's my daughter by Scott, build me the interface to my database without me doing anything. Basically, you don't have to know anything about AWS. Do you call that an obstruction by any chance? I I would definitely call out distraction. Very good. He's continued. Okay. Okay. So amplify wasn't done. There's no they'd be busy. They've been real busy amplify council has added support for custom headers. So now, you can add custom headers specifying each header for response for debugging security informational purposes. The console has also added support in five additional regions Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Mumbai and Frankfurt. So this expands the console to eleven regions, which was awesome and closing out. Developer wools, the AWS divide device. Farm remote access for manual testing on real Android. IOS devices now supports Android os eight plus in Iowa's eleven plus devices. So now supporting. Basically, the OS operating systems of the now the now, and you can you can swap you can swap up, Dan. So things like the Phoenix issue iphone X, the pixel three Samsung galaxy is tens not seeing any foldable there yet. However, I'm sure though, I'm sure they'll come they'll come in time. Let's talk storage one of the things that a lot of customers probably unaware, but as with knowing that we have gripe program called the public data sits pergram, and this allows you to get excess to really interesting data sits fusing your own work. And you'll research we have some new sets from the national renewable energy laboratory Nanyang technological university from Stanford from software heritage and others is a whole big list around astronomy, biology, disastrous sponsor, encyclopedia, Dada, etc. We're going to do a special episode of this coming up. So it's been too much time on it. But he's an important thing. If you need data sits fair machine learning up -solutely important, anything anything you and compete. Nikki. Yes. Amazon is going to send. No, I. It took me a second. His on EC two instances T three instances are now generally available. And so these are the epic processes, so these are very useful. If you want to bit of cost saving something about ten percent cost savings. What we see the t threes are really useful boost evil workload. But you have unlimited amount of boosting that you can do when you need to so available in a subset of rages. At the moment, you'll get a lot more coming at in the future, also Amazon E ks. If you it now delivers Cuban eighties control, pine logs to Amazon clad watch this is really important because you want to track and audit what's going on in your cluster. It also supports the EC two one instances as public preview. So these are the new biased processes that you can use again, quite useful. And you can also now tag and have more tags involved in the commissioning for debates elastic beanstalk. So I've been stock is what you use to deploy applications that is a good one too. Now, one last one in this particular topic is around the use of additives parallel cluster, and I wanted to mention this. Because I can say the woods loom. I mentioned they sneaky earlier, and she had no idea what I was talking about in the big data context or even in the in the cartoon contexts as will app developer here. So Adam is parallel claw. Steph two-three one now has enhanced support for slim workload manager so in the space. This will be very exciting to and if you in the cartoon spice, it's delicious beverage, so you go I feel like you just like saying that were locked Hank slim, some pretty cool things in databases. I'll let you do the first one because on the next one you got it. So in the topic of databases at Amazon RDS now supports per second billing, which is great as now exactly if you are built for thirty seconds. Instead of you doesn't even go up to a minute. Like, you can just do two seconds of time. So look could lower prices for a lot of our love. Our love have the increments have dropped overtime. I remember when one our billing was revolutionary than it was eight minutes. Now, it's one sick and increments. There is a ten minute. Minimum charge. Judge. But it's one second increments. But one always very excited about he's an Amazon audience for oracle. Nasa puts instances up to sixty four teebox of storage and IT thousand of provisions. I oh, yeah. That's that's big. I remember waking with the Bank Becky in the early two thousands with I had I twenty terabyte oracle database, and it was on a Hunkin big piece of with a big storage system and was obscenely expensive. And now I can go click click and have sixty four terabyte. So it's pretty pretty cool. Amazon has also enhanced monitoring for storage and host metrics on f you have more than one under long, physical, DeVos. It'll give you the information for the DeVos. It

"I said this to you offline United had the balls to then say these were leaked by Twitter on on. You put them on a fricken banner. You know? And it doesn't matter if it was if it was an internal conference you put it on a banner, and that's like specs highly confidential information for you the airline and even more sensitive information for your customers. I am sure that apple are fear or were furious about this league as well. As the other the other because there was some big companies have the picture for me. So Facebook Roche, which is a pharma company from Houston and Google ole spend over thirty four million per year, and then the was between twelve and seventeen billion per year. There was Deloitte, McKinsey Cisco Applied Materials Pedo, but you see an oracle. And the thing is about apple is the fact that the crews being asked to being nice is that it's currently under renegotiations attract, I think it's a three or contract. So you saying that apple is not really happy that batter. Couldn't have come at the worst time. Because apple now's negotiating. Maybe they're not at the end of the day. If you fly out from San Francisco United is not your only choice, but is a major choice to Shanghai don't think you have many options direct. But I mean, and if they're going to try and fly a US airline. They're the only option if you're happy with going via somewhere, then you've got a million different options, of course. And and you know that that lends itself to renegotiation, but they don't have a huge San Francisco is a focus city, obviously for United hub city. So the Ben are also listed didn't biggest markets for apple. So besides Shangai. The second one was Hong Kong the third one Taipei, then London Seoul, Singapore Munich, Tokyo, Beijing and Tel-Aviv all airports. We basically covered. We haven't done Tel-Aviv. It will do soon all the others. We have we also fly to same decisions in apple not paid to save up. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Talking still about United. I've seen the new uniforms. I have bold. So I mean because do you say bold you as a US citizen was a British isn't because as British isn't as interesting it could be bold. It's great or bowl. I don't I don't hate them. I think I think it's it's very refreshing for them. My stance on the United is softening. And I haven't flown them at all. So I can't that's not based on anything to do with that. But I think that they've they're slowly figuring it out. And the reports that I'm getting are are much better. And I think that this. This actually is helping to soften the very stuffy stuck in the nineties corporate culture that they have been clinging onto for decades. This this helps I think it does. I always amused by the naming off the colors Pacific, blue premium purple and Atlantic amethyst is all the colors, you guys figure them out or simply Google the pictures and find the ones currently have are not that great. So I'm also welcoming the new ones because at least more distinct. They're definitely distinct, and I know that Johnny the designer. There is not a fan. He didn't think that they looked particularly cohesive because there's very different versions, depending on one's role in the organization, and he doesn't think that they're particularly cohesive. I'm not one hundred percent. Sure, I agree with that. And I this is not easy doing like this. I've been involved on the periphery something like this. And it's twice actually. And it's not it's not an easy thing to do. And it certainly not easy to get consensus on these various roles as well. So I I think they're fine. I think they're fine new callers might be roll out faster than the actual seats, which also feature the same colors. This is going to be faster talking about Porras, the cookbook. "This is episode two hundred and eighty one of the AWS podcast released on November thirtieth twenty eighteen. However, buddy and welcome back, the Oedipus podcast militia with you. Great to have you back for the loss of the reinvent updates for twenty teen. I hope you enjoy them, and I have been useful. So we've had some great answers that I'm going to share it with you today. The first one is one that actually neglected to talk about yesterday was eating mar run list. But I didn't mention it called AWS at posts. Now what this will do in. This will be available. Probably the second half of the twenty nine. China will bring nineteenth Idaho services infrastructure and operating models to virtually any data Santa Carlo who on premises facility. It can use the same API SIM, tools and the same hardware that we use at AWS. Now, they'll be two variants one ease the wjm where clad on Adam his outposts, which means you can use the same VM ware control planet API's that you might use to die to run your infrastructure or the item is ninety variant of item is at post, which let's use the same. I in control plane that used to run in the abyss clad, but on premises. Now, this infrastructure will be fully. Managed maintained and supported by either beers to access to the lightest is services, and it'll be very straightforward to order and get going, and these will be available in groups of one or more service, you can get quarter half or even full wreck units as well. So let's mashed about that online. But as I mentioned that type pre-announce, however, talked to vote Vogels was on stage today sharing with us some pretty amazing stuff and loss to share. So here it comes. So, of course, from a software developer perspective, we all have very passionate views on the platforms in tooling. We locked us particularly ID's, and everyone's very proud of the one that that us will the great new announcement is idea was tool kits for pod. Chom intelligence and visual studio code now. The pot Chow Mein is at in all its glory and the Intel Jay and visual studio code ones, both in develop a preview, but are also available online few to check it and to try it. And contribute to as well. And this is released because alleged credit I knew ready to deploy civilised have location for the pot chop vision. Using a preferred run Tom you can test you cut. Luckily, you can step three debugging you can deploy to that. It was raging. If your choice you can invoke ULA Lambda functions. Luckily or remotely and you can even use in customer sample pilots from a variety of sources now the toolkits distributed under the open source of patchy Lawson's version two point out. So get your hands on those and tell us what you think I'm sure the team would love to get that feedback really quickly and help either right and innovate on those platforms. Something I know a lot of customers will be very excited about ease that the application load balancer, the I'll be canal invoke Lambda functions to save hasty P and hatred ups requests Harari. So this allows you to access your civilised applications from any hasty client including web browsers net because I obey support content by drafting rules. You can also request to different Lambda functions based on. The request content. And you could also read it to EC two instances suffer. What of customers who kind of pulling a pot mortally think riding Marcus services? But then not completely done these provides. I really useful design pen to divide and conquer that will now this is available for existing and new I obeys in north Virginia are higher north, California. Oregon Mumbai Seoul Singapore. Sydney, Tokyo, Canada, Frankfurt and London Paris. Sal, Paula and gove clad US west. So pretty exciting times another capability the lot of Lambda uses me whiting full is ability to deploy custom run Tom's. So this is called the Runtime API. And it defines a standardized hasty by specification, which is half Lambda and a functions run, Tom communicates. What this means is you can nab build custom Ron Thompson integrate with landed to execute functions in response to events. Now. This is really useful. Because now you can use your choice of programming languages and language versions. Very simple to get started. The good thing is there are some referencing limitations in both C, plus plus and rust so he can get an idea of how they work, but this is very cool and gives you the choice that many of you have been looking for another new concept is the concept of Lambda lies, and this is a new kind of odd effect that can contain arbitrary code and data and can be referenced by zero one or more functions at the same time, and this is really useful for service functions that shake home and dependencies lock. It's decays frameworks that run Tom's. And we'd lies you can buy Szekely manage Coleman components across multiple functions enabling better code res. So what you do common. Kite in fall up let it to lamb to as a lab, and then you can figure functions to reference it and win the function is invoked the lad contest become available to your function code. Now. We are providing a lab that includes non pie and saw Pye sawn tiffy libraries for python. So it's an example of how you can do it. But you can do it with pretty much any of the supported languages and. Get going straightaway. This is really really useful. Also have a number of technology partners who launching they offerings on top of Runtime IPO and lies as will. So some really interesting things happening in that ecosystem also the civils application model supports nested applications using the civilised application repository. And of course, it also supports the new construct. So I just mentioned another language upset falente, and it was land Essop. What's ruby? Yes. If you are ruby two point five Runtime USA. You can be very happy and deploy civilised lead to cast come home very closely related to the topic of civilised is streaming Dada. Many events dreams accredited that get gins served by civilised functions. So we Annette introducing the Amazon manage streaming for calf cow Amazon MS K in public previews available endorphin Genia, and this is a fully managed streaming service. Full Cathcart, this provides managed hot available insecure service that made it's very easy for you to spin it up without having to actually deploy everything. And do all the Philly stuff Darrow site, the undifferentiated heavy lifting its pays you go. For broke instances and storage usage. The brook instances start at twenty one cents per Ambrosio storage is ten cents per gig per month in cluster data transfer and a fully managed highly viable zookeeper cluster included with every close to at no additional cost. It supports vision. One point one point one and Amazon EC two m five instances are used as the Petchey Kef. Co brokers have apply I'm sure the timber left to get feedback on what you think is good about it or more think needs some work and also many very cool announcements today. This one is actually my

"It available in nine more regions. We added let's say we had Mumbai Seoul Singapore. Sydney, northern California, Canada, Frankfurt, London and Paris, which means that Aurora service is available in fourteen different regions. And what what if he doesn't like, you know, having to, you know, create these fiddly JDBC IB be connections. Could you just you know, queried in the console ahead? You can now create them in the council. Great question. I have no idea why you would have even thought to ask that. Some other really cool things is now Amazon Aurora has custom in point sake and help with some of your work lead management. So you can choose where the particular types of work. Let's you got a particular parts of the data by, sir. Good examples analytics, visit transactional, we know. How will those two bedfellows? They don't go. Well together. And there's also a new data IPO speaking of Amazon Aurora service, which is I direct APR. You can call from your applications. So rather than having to use sequel buys particles. You can actually execute things directly through the it's pretty these are pretty amazing update and something will dive deep on in a future podcast. It is. And I've seen people really excited about the idea that this is a great match for the Lambda functions because they don't have to worry about connections connection pooling long-running connections. They can just use the data API and make these direct connections to or exactly now. That's invader. Amendments are expected to direct pretty quicken on the team definitely wants to get a lot of feedback from the develop a community on what that should look like Jeff couple of quick support updates in terms of audience instance, tarps. Sure. So the the are five instance types are the newest version of the memory memory intensive memory optimized instances, so Amazon artists for oracle. Now supports are five as does. RDS for post Creswell. Yeah. It's pretty cool. And also if you're doing automatic backups, which you probably should be doing using ideas. You cannot keep them off. Do you have deleted your daughter buys as well? So I'm one of those NAS little changes, the low A customers of one it also ideas for price Carr sequel NASA ports at band network excess using custom daynuss service. "Search nods. This note to note encryption means that you can hi-sci sensitive workloads with very stringent security and compliance requirements. Bicycling implements tailless full communications between the elastic search instances in a cluster. This means any essential. Amazon elastic search service to mind of a high sixty s reminds encrypted. In-flight wall, Spain, distributed in a ripple. Located between the night. So always had the security into the cluster, but now got that security within the narves will. Now, the good thing is also tickets at deployed automatically by the service throughout the of the demand that any additional operational overhead. So you can enable night not encryption wing creding, any democrat running elastic such seeks, oh, Greta is no digital face and check out the user God for headed to that. I have to admit that one of my favorite thought services at the moment is Amazon Athena of finding myself using it on a daily basis. And basically it's an interactive query service that lets you easily end laws Dada. That's Inam Assan Isseri using standard SQL and being an issue all user from many, many years Beck, it's not an familia. So there is a great new capability. We now have support for create table as select or see tests statements that you can use the statement to credit new title from existing titles on a subset of data or subset of columns, and you also have the option to convert the data in Tacoma formats so he can convert things into peci. KYW Apache oil can petition it. So what this does is it means it will automatically Ed the resultant table and petitions to the glue Dodig clad, look and make them immediately available for subsequent queries. Now, default see testaments in fana- rock dot in pack. I foam at, but you can rot them in a peci all ever Johnson and text. They're also option sees Jay z. or snappy as compression if you want to. And you can also bucket yo doubt about columns or choose to encrypt as well. Lots and lots of details about how unwired use that. But if I've mentioned the woods, say tests and you'll ease have picked up in, this is something you should definitely look at. If on the other hand using John Rich's Moyo pice we'll guess what there is. No, I query editor to run queries directly from the US management console. So in the past, you would sit up a sequel front end you connect using some sort of external jetty be seen. ABC client done that myself. Many, many times will no longer than I more. You can now run those queries in the console, you can save you must company run queries, and you can have them ready to go next. Doing things. So this is really useful for some of those Ed hook, things that we tend to do from time to time. It's available in USA, snow, Virginia, US's too high. Use west north, California, useless, Oregon Canada's central South America. Sao Paulo, you Frank ostlund London, and Paris, and in Asia Pacific Mumbai Seoul, Singapore, CD Tokyo and Asaka if marriages is Moyo Pricilla well, we now have support for tencent flow and history. Select with Spock on Amazon EMS this release five point one, seven zero. Now tens of flow. One point, nine es. I popular machine and deep learning framework and Isra select is a really powerful capability to and laws and select Dada directly on history without having to do any of processing. So now you can use history select with Spock. So this allows the Spock applications to selectively query a subset of data from my logic in his threat. This is great because it improves performance by reducing the amount of data that you have to transfer in and out of the cluster. And also in Israel. Yes, you can configure Jupiter hob on Emma to save him police notebooks directly to us three. So this is very nifty plus a whole bunch of other improvements to packages lock Apache fleeing capizzi, h Bryson, presto Prestowitz at TRE. So if you're a user of Emma, this'll be something interesting to you service that we've seen be really popular customers when migrating data between dot engines is something called the item, est database migration service, and it is in company by the idea of a scheme, a conversion tool CT. And what this allows you to do is to move daughter across also recast that data witnesses sery- into format, supported by different databases. So now the service makes it easy. Margaret peci Cassandra, no sequel databases into Amazon Donohoe debate. So now you can Margaret yo Cassandra Dada by says to Donald EBay and then replicate ongoing changes to those Donohoe debate tables as well. After you've migrated from the Cassandra Datta biases, you get all the benefits of Donna, my debase, the consistent, single millisecond light and see. Any scale and the fact that you don't have to manage it at cetera. It's been interesting seeing some of that customers do these because they're trying to reduce the cost of operating the data. Let infect some customers have run the Donald DB back applications with up to seventy percent TCI savings when Kapit to Cassandra and have also been an attack advantage of things like tables per store, encryption at rest cetera. Things that I've had used Cassandra four in the posture of l. to the mean Donald UB, now's well. So this Margraten process makes it easy to switch if it makes sense to you a based solution. We've talked about it in the passes the Dodd alike solution. And this is something credit by the abyss solutions team, which is a automated reference implementation that deploys a high of I will cost effective Dodd, like architecture in the idea was clad with, I use a friendly console fishing and requesting Dada sits well many customers, oh said, hey, could you integrate that with active directory for Maka soft? And the answer is now? Yes. So the solution now includes a fitter at a template. Lets you launch visual. The solution is ready to integrate. We deal Marcus. Active directory environment. "So the team have increased the request right limit for corset of the API operations. These include the decrypt encrypt generate data key generate data key with eggplant takes generate random and ring crypt Kohl's. So they request right limits have been increased from twelve hundred Pacific ins to ten thousand requests Pacific and in US as north Virginia US, west Oregon and Alan regions. And in all the other regions where kindness is available, the limits have increased to five and a half thousand requests per second. What this let's see do is Skyla up easier. The higher Quist limits automatically rolled at your can't. You don't have to do anything to increase them. However, if you already have approved limits that a high than the new limits, you continue to have access to those limits as well. Now, I've just spent the last few days at. Cambre summit with many of public sector customers has been great having chats with him about the direction they Goggin in the work they're doing. And one of the topics that came up a lot was Amazon, Donna DP as a really effective daughter positively for many their applications. So one of the things that the team might available ease the Amazon, Donald DB, local capability, which is available with a new DACA image. So this lets you test and develop your dogma DB applications by using that local DACA image. So he can prototype applications have all the dependencies built-in. You just get up and running and start operating without the need for an intake, internet connection, and giving you complete compatibility with all of your existing Donald DP. APR calls you don't have to worry about provisions through put a data storage, a transfer costs because it's old running luckily and it's available now as a download as a self contained DACA image or Joff. All that can run amok of windows Lennox, MAC OS, and pretty much anything else that's ports Java. So that's a good way to get up and running. Another thing of great interest. Any customers, Amazon, Donna. My debate is of course the global tables capability these available in additional rations. So the navigable in US, west north, California, and e London regions as well. So this gives you immense capability across a variety of regents effect. It's available in Ohio, north Virginia, California, argon, Tokyo Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Frankfurt, and London. So you can really get yourself going global. If that situation case, if you're more focused on the relational side of the house, the idea of MS will there are now improvements to the performance incites capability in audience. It NASA ports my sequel. So this is a really great advanced database performance monitoring feature that lets you solve those pesky performance problems..

"To be highly available within the same region some detail about that but first i wanted to run through way these regions are so the currently steve regions includes the following us east north virginia and are higher us west north california and oregon as you pacific mumbai seoul singapore sydney tokyo and a local region in asaka we'll talk about that shortly in china these beijing and ningxia or on probably pronouncing that wrong in europe is frankfurt island london and paris in south america the sao paulo and we also have a special gove clad region in us west and as i mentioned earlier on there are already announced regions coming soon full behind hong kong sa sweden and another adequate clad in us east so these are the geographic locations currently that you can choose from however there are some sub constructs within that the first of those is of course the value so let's dive a little bit more into the viability zayn concept each availabilities aren't runs on its own physically distinct independent infrastructure and his engineered to be highly reliable so common points of failures like generators and cooling equipment on not shared across availability science additionally that physically separate such even extremely uncommon disasters such as fires tonight as a flooding would only affect a single availability son so this is really important because it provides you built in an inherent structure to isolate problems and isolate the effect of problems on your right application and this structure came out of a long history of amazon and operating systems and understanding what it took to achieve a higher level of availability and this means having these concept availability zones built in to the infrastructure so as a developer or infrastructure deploy you can take advantage of it very very negatively so let's talk a bit about naming structures because if you're gonna use regions unavailability signs you need to know how to refer to them each region has a set of codes it starts with this sort of country that's like hiding so it could be us or it could be a pay for asiapacific or a you for the eu and then a general location area so e you dash west dash one is the island or as e dash to is london for example then within each of those they'll be a letter pentateuch for h availability zayn i b c etc so for example if i'm using these sydney region i'm aunt referred to ip dash south they stash to a as what am i val abilities signs so this gives me a very consistent pragmatically driven way to excess and referred to particular availability zones and regions this is also something he can use his parameters to old tops of commands and of course within clad formation as well feel automation if you want to refer to it specifically now something to be aware of is that the letter fear availabilities on might not be the same across multiple accounts if you're running multiple accounts suffering xample my as to a might not be the same as your piece f is to a for my physical location availability on perspective this is done for a number of reasons but it's just something to bear in mind that the saimaa val abilities aren't in one customer account might not be the same for another one now the interesting thing about availability signs is that some services of course handle them transparently to take advantage of them so that deploy the service in a highly viable resilient wife for you but you don't ever specify a particular availabilities on you specify a region and you notice you always specify originally everything you do because that provides locality royal placing that infrastructure but you may not have to specify in availability sign some examples of this the simple queuing service lambda dynamo db etc these services deploy across multiple availability zones in a specific region the region that you choose however you do not have to manage control specify a multiple of abilities on deployment they do it for you never a some services that will handle it automatically for you unless you want to make a specific decision and a great example of this is three so it's three deploys across all the designs in a particular region for you however if you choose the history one zone option it by definition deploys in to one of elibility sign so this is a.
