"The economy and to help assure that the recovery from this difficult period will be as robust as possible on behalf of communities, families and businesses across the country. Thank you. Thank you, Chairman, pal of my first question. I think we'll be toward you, Secretary Venetian. I'm actually quite surprised to hear you criticized for following the law and how you have dealt with the return of the cares. Act funds that way were in the room together. Negotiating these provisions as the Care cares Act was created. Banking Committee Chairman Senator Mike Crapo. Um and interestingly, it seems to me that the real problem here is a well you'll recall you and we were accused of creating a big slush fund. And now when we have terminated these funds as required by the law so that we can utilize them more effectively in the next act. The criticism is that this fund should not have been terminated. I just find that kind of confusing. That's also confusing in the context of the fact that we have tried to get the kind of the very kind of relief and follow up legislation that we've now been criticized for not doing just a few months ago, extending things like the Paycheck Protection program, which would help those restaurant workers that Senator Brown mentioned. Extending an improving it, by the way, redirecting some of these funds so that we get to those industries and sectors of our economy that have not yet been reached by the 13 3 facilities and really need to have a different kind of direct support system put into place for them, adding rental assistance that we need to have, in my opinion in which I've been working very hard on to try to get And as we tried to get these things, they were rejected by the other side. And so it's just confusing to me are a little bit surprising to see these kinds of attacks leveled today in this hearing. And so, secretary Mnuchin. Could you just help make a little sense from your point of view as to why the decision to make to the return of these funds away from the 13 3 facilities at this time ized the best thing and what the intent That you had was in making that termination. Thank thank you, Mister Chairman and let me first say, I want to thank the Senate for passing the cares Act, which was 96 to 0 and an unprecedented response. And and as you know, I lived in the LBJ room for over two weeks, so I'm very familiar. I personally negotiated many of these provisions. Matter of fact, I brought the cares act with me because I reference it and keep it next to my desk. And Mr Chairman, I would just ask you to recall you and I were sitting outside Senator Schumer's office with his staff. It was after 1 A.m. in the morning on the night that we finally finished this and I asked you to come to sign off on on behalf of the leader and others the final red lines. We went through this very carefully so I would direct you to section 40 29, which is very clear. Which says Except as provided in subsection B on December 31 2020, the authority provided under this subtitle shall terminate. It was very clear s. Oh, my decision. First of all, I want to check Thank chair Powell because he has been a terrific partner in everything we've done on. I really wanna thank him and the people at the said he and I Have been speaking constantly in deference to him. I did extend the four of the facilities that used non cares money. My decision not to extend these facilities was not an economic decision. I'm surprised to hear Senator Brand use words like sabotage, No legitimate justification. Delusional malpractice time for action. I'd be more than happy Senator Brown become seeing your staff. And walk you through the legal analysis..

Who's probably Senator Collins under Romney and others have been meeting with Democrats about a possible way forward way. We received a proposal through a letter from uh Speaker Pelosi and Senator Schumer last night. Let me tell you where I think we are, uh, leader. McCarthy and I've been in discussions with the secretary of the Treasury on the president's chief of staff to try to ascertain what the president would actually sign into law. And I think we have a sense of what that is. I laid that out in the call that we had just a little while ago. We're going to send that out to all the offices and get some feedback to see how our members react to a proposal that we can say for sure would be signed into law. I think the one thing we all agree on is that we don't have time for messaging games. We don't have time for lengthy negotiations. The issue is do we want to get a result? And I like to remind you provided the way you get a result, Geoff ever presidential signature, So I felt the first thing we needed to do is to find out what the president would in fact shine. We believe we've got the answer to that. We're betting that on our side, and then we'll let you know later whether we think there's any way forward, but certainly we know we can say I hope that this is something that would be signed into law by the president. Be done quickly deal with the things that we can agree on now, and I think we all know that after the first of the year, there's likely to be a discussion about additional some additional package of some size next year, depending upon what the new administration wants to pursue. That was Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Earlier today, Senator McConnell noted that the time to pass the bill is extremely limited as lawmakers will leave in a few weeks for the Christmas and New Year's recess. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in a statement Tuesday afternoon, said quote additional covert relief is long overdue and must be passed in this lame duck session and quote. Here's Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer of the letter he and Speaker Pelosi sent to the majority leader. In the first leader, Speaker Pelosi and I sent yesterday a proposal to, uh, leader McConnell in an effort to get things moving. I'm not going to get into the details. It was a private proposal to help us move the ball forward, but let's make no mistake about it. I just heard leader McConnell say he's going to put another partisan proposal on the floor. He's going to talk to McCarthy and Trump and put something on the floor. The obvious fact of the matter is the biggest impediment to getting in agreement is the Republican leader refusing to negotiate in a bipartisan way He knows darn well the House is Democratic majority. He knows don. Well. He needs Democratic votes in the Senate to get anything done since the number of his people won't vote for any proposal. And yet he continues to negotiate in a partisan way. Speaker Pelosi and I sent him the proposal in a good faith effort to start to get him to negotiate in a bipartisan way. I always welcome and encourage my Democratic members to talk to Republican members. And there's another proposal that way all or in efforts to get leader McConnell to stop being so partisan because the needs of people are desperate Death. Britt desperate during this Christmas season and later must pass government funding Bill. Are you worried about getting jammed, too? That you've lost your negotiating power and you're gonna have to accept whatever he comes up with. Let me just say, I hoped McConnell will start doing things in a bipartisan way. Every time he's tried to do it in a partisan way. It has failed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer from earlier today. On Capitol Hill. This morning, a bipartisan group of senators held a press conference unveiling their nine $108 billion Covert 19 stimulus package will speak with the Washington Post Mike DeBonis on it on that in a moment first, though, here is one of the bill's co sponsors, Senator Joe Manchin, Democrat of West Virginia. Let me just say that that this is intense amount of work that the staffs have been doing for quite some time. And every senator, every Congress person here has put in it on a normal amount of time on this in person on the phone. This is a covert emergency relief framework we've worked in. The best interest of what we believe is great for our country is good for our states, and we can all go home knowing that we have worked diligently to make sure that The unemployed, the small businesses, state and local funding stone student done for parents, everything that's going to come to a halt in December because of the timing that's not going to happen. So we're battling Cove in 19 more fiercely now than we ever have before. We recognize that it's inexcusable for us to leave town and not have an agreement that we can come together and not sure that we can work the way the Senate in a way that Congress was intended to work in a bipartisan way. It's not the time for political brinkmanship on you'll not see any of that here today on this stage, and we're going to intend to move this forward after months of failing to act for one reason or another. We're not blaming anybody for why they haven't come to an agreement that wasn't enough is too much. Whatever we know what's necessary right now, in a timely fashion, our bipartisan bicameral group, as.

Biden meets with governors about COVID-19
"Biden will meet with top Democrats House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer here in Wilmington today as he pushes for a covert release package. Senator. Schumer said that the majority leader, Senator Mitch McConnell, had agreed to staff staff level talks on another aid package before grenades were quick to push back on Schumer's comments, accusing Democrats of conflicting a spending bill and a coded relief bill. The
What Trump's Covid-19 diagnosis means for the country
"Were always joined on Saturday morning by John Gizzi. He is the White House correspondent and chief political columnist of newsmax dot com and Newsmax TV, John. Good morning. Good morning, Rick. And what a night it wass. Well, obviously, we're following the latest developments on President Trump and his diagnosis with covert 19. What is the latest you're hearing on the president. The president is resting comfortably at the Walter Reed Hospital where yesterday he left the White House. And arrived at the hospital. I might and he left the White House in his usual business suit looking as he always does. Uh, this is not someone who has been felled by the virus. But simply has symptoms of the Corona virus, and he will rest there until doctors say he can come out. Which effectively scotches the debate. Scheduled for October. 15th. But it doesn't mean he's going to be in the hospital through the rest of the campaign, and we may see a newer and better Donald Trump emerged from Walter Reed. For now, all signs are that he's resting and that this is not anything that Americans should be nervous about. John. We know the Corona virus hits each individual differently, assuming the best for the president, where he quarantines for the 14 days and gets through this What is the impact on the campaign for the impact on the campaign is that right now there's an absentee candidate that the president cannot have is make America great again Rallies. He cannot debate He cannot issue pronouncements, although one as the impression after covering Donald Trump for the past four years that no hospital and no confinement Ooh! Ah hospital bed is going to keep him away from his tweeting. Uh, hey, certainly can campaign that way. And another thing. We have a long history in America of candidates who are hospitalized or injured who actually do well as their supporters carry on for them. When he made his first center base in 1948 Congressman Lyndon B. Johnson was laid up for a period with very brutal, Cole. His wife, Lady Bird and others served is very effective Speakers and he went on to win hard fought race. I know of a case of another candidate, Arch war who was elected governor of West Virginia after surviving a helicopter crash. So just because it candidate is hospitalized or unhealthy doesn't mean it's a foregone conclusion. He'll lose well, John. Obviously, we know the polarization across the country and the polarization in the media. And there will be a lot of talk about the 25th amendment, and I just wanted to get sort of a factual look. At the 25th amendment. So when people hear the pundits talking about it, they understand it. Alright, 25th amendment was passed. In the late 19 sixties. It is known as the Presidential Succession Amendment. Its functions are twofold. One Puts into law what had been an informal agreement between presidents and their vice presidents. For a long time before them. And that means when the president is incapacitated, say is when he goes under the knife. For surgery, He turns over the powers. Of his office to his number two who effectively becomes acting President Richard Nixon served his acting president after a heart attack. President Dwight Eisenhower, and after a mild stroke, the president suffered Similarly, when Lyndon Johnson had surgery, Hubert Humphrey was the acting president and Dido for George H. W. Bush. Under Ronald Reagan when he had cancer surgery in his second term. The other part of the amendment is that if the vice president succeeds to the presidency, he or she can then designate Vice president that the Senate must give its advice and consent to I might add that when a president is declared unable to continue in his office for health reasons, the 25th amendment can be invoked. By the vice president and his succession to the top job can be insured. Post debate. Polls are now being released Thursday morning, NBC News National Polling had Biden up 7.9 points over President Trump Real clear politics showing Biden with a 6.6 lead over Trump Fivethirtyeight national polling tracker gave Biden the 7.6 advantage. President didn't seem to gain any ground whatsoever in the debates. Possibly lost some ground. What's your analysis is, we move forward. First of all, I do believe that the polls accurately reflect The post debate. Momentum is with Joe Biden, and it has very little to do with the debate itself. But with the media's interpretation of how candidates Trump and Biden acquitted themselves on national television, and of course, the opinion off the punditocracy is almost unanimous. The president was ruled. He interrupted. He had no consistent thought. And Joe Biden was a gentleman. That is their opinion. Which is being repeated by a lot of people. There's two factors that leaves this reporter to say that these numbers might have flaws in them. The first is the hidden vote. There's a lot of people, certainly, as was the case in 2016, who just won't admit they're voting for Donald Trump. Obviously they do so when they're in the voting booth. The other is that Joe Biden right now, by being cool, is holding on and appearing a front runner. Did. Donald Trump loses the debate? It all depends on who you ask. Chuck Booth, commentator and conservative activists from Nevada said the president decided to use this format to speak directly. To his base of supporters and try and rally them to the polls. He compared the president's performance and his refusal to abide by Time outs to the scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when Butch is facing a much larger man and challenges him to a knife fight. And then says, but we have to go through the rules. The other man says there's no rules in a knife fight at which point which kicks him. And effectively weakens and subdues him. That's what the president's goal Wass with Joe Biden and to his base, he succeeded. So let's turn to the impact on the Senate and the Congress a lot of business to attend to, including the nomination of Amy Cockney Barrett to the Supreme Court. We take pause for well wishes from Democrats. But as we can see in the Chuck Schumer tweet, it is a one sentence pause. And then we're back into politics. Here's what he said Friday night. We now have two members of the Senate Judiciary Committee who have tested positive for covert and there may be more. I wish my colleagues well, so that's the nicety. And here's the politics. It is irresponsible and dangerous to move forward with the hearing, and there was absolutely no good reason to do so. Well, I would just say that the distinguished minority leader of the Senate, Senator Schumer should look a little bit more. At the rules of the Senate as wrong is there is a quorum of senators in the committee. They could move along, particularly if chairman gavels in now what he's referring to are Senator Mike Lee of Utah and Thom Tillis of North Carolina. Both Judiciary Committee members and both presently incapacitated by the Corona virus. Both could easily recover in a short time. Remember the Judiciary Committee hearings on drugs, Parrots nomination don't begin until the 14th of Oct over. So any judgments about Senator Tillis or Senator Lee? Not being in the job in two weeks is a bit premature. That's the Supreme Court debate. Let's talk about the stimulus deal. New York Times Reporting. Speaker Pelosi said that the president's positive Corona virus test could change the dynamic and produce a Nagre mint on additional pandemic relief. But a compromise remains elusive. The gist of it from Speaker Pelosi is that now the Republicans will take Corona virus more seriously. Well, where do we

Senate Democrats and Republicans debate response to police reform
"Michael on the day George Floyd was laid to rest in Texas senators in the nation's capital were discussing ways to change policing and address systemic racism in America the Senate's top Democrat Chuck Schumer says the justice in policing act introduced in the house this week is the best solution to reform the criminal justice system if we pursue this bill the public's on our side and we will do very well but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says Republicans are devising their own bill led by the only black Republican in the U. S. Senate of as senator Tim Scott to lead a group that is working on a proposal to allow us to respond to the obvious racial discrimination that we've seen on full display on our television screens over the last two weeks and what is the appropriate response by the federal government senator McConnell says Tim Scott is the only member of the caucus who can truly shed light on the situation I think the best way for the Senate Republicans to go forward on this is to listen to one of our own who's had these experiences he's had them since he's been in the United States Senate and with his guidance and leadership we're going to come together with a proposal that we think makes the most sense the congressional black caucus led the effort behind the house bill and senator Schumer says the Senate really should go with that this bill has been carefully thought out senator McConnell says the Senate Republican bill will be carefully thought out to you but as for when he might be released at some point in the near future will have recommendations to be made that's what worries senator Schumer member when there was a lot of gun violence and McConnell said all our caucus is going to discuss it we're going to deal with it said and then they never did I'm worried the same thing would happen here still senator McConnell is under no illusions that it will be easy to craft a bill dealing with this discrimination which persist here some fifty years after the nineteen sixty four Civil Rights element nineteen sixty five civil rights bill that we're still wrestling with America's original

Angela's US not discussed is that there is a frankly banking desert's in a lot of the communities about seventy percent of the African American community. Actually don't have a branch bank and so we've been working with a they treasury you know senator Sector MNUCHIN and Senator Schumer in Pelosi Dachsie work on building capacity and what I saw the capillary banking systems which are the community development financial institutions and a minority depository institutions building out the Pasadena to get these dollars into the hands of these small businesses which are essential to our communities so what are those capillary banks. Look like who you to right. If you are a small business owner this morning listening to you this morning. Where did you go go? Go to get that money then. So there's a bad a little over a thousand of these days. Cdfi's and the India is and these banks typically are in the communities there mainly in what we call targeted communities Unfortunately a lot of the larger banks don't bank those organizations those businesses any longer and is about ninety four percent or so of the African American businesses are so proprietorships and don't have banking relationships. Treasury and Senate working to replenish Paycheck Protection Program
"Well hopes are pretty high that a deal is going to result in another big package to speed help to small businesses and others Linda Kenyon is following the breaking news for us Michael it's a stimulus deal it represents the very essence of compromise this is treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin Sunday on CNN's state of the union I'm hopeful that we can reach an agreement that the Senate can pass this tomorrow and that the house can take it up on Tuesday he's talking about a deal to add three hundred billion dollars to the small business administration's paycheck protection program that program which quickly ran out of money provides forgivable loans to small businesses so they can keep their employees on the payroll other businesses are closed due to the coronavirus Democrats have been holding out for additional money for hospitals and state and local governments to but Republicans held fast against that saying that replenishing the paycheck protection program should be a standalone bill after bipartisan talks with the treasury secretary the early contours of the bill show it will include seventy five billion dollars for hospitals twenty five billion for corona virus testing and fifty billion for the economic injury disaster loans Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer is cautiously optimistic you know you got a lot of a lot of details let it down and I's and cross the tease but I am I am very very hopeful senator Schumer appeared on CNN's state of the union as did secretary Mnuchin they were the only ones feeling optimistic the negotiations are going on or very close price president Mike pence on fox news Sunday I think every American has seen the success of the president's program to provide payroll support and and we're gonna work to expand on that so that no one working in a small business in America would have to worry about missing a paycheck during the trial and and difficulty of the corona virus good path house speaker Nancy Pelosi also on fox news Sunday was in agreement further indication that a deal is near house Majority Leader Steny Hoyer sent a notice to members yesterday this is the house could meet as early as Wednesday to consider the legislation that notice gives members time to get back to Washington to vote on the bill which if all goes according to plan the Senate could vote on as soon as today since the Senate like the house is out of town due to the coronavirus the Senate will try to streamline the voting process and pass the bill by unanimous consent this would avoid the need to bring every member back to Washington and only a few people would likely be in the chamber at the time of the

Texas Senator John Cornyn on the $2 Trillion Rescue Bill
"You here we're going to have back the senior center the great state of Texas it is senator John Cornyn John how are you I'm doing a great job good to be with you it really good to hook up with you I told people yesterday that I would have you on the we had technical issues on my end that we didn't end up having you on but actually is kind of auspicious because we have bigger news today late late last night you know we heard from Mitch McConnell we think we have a deal and then it turns out in fact it was a unanimous deal I mean how are you breathe a little bit better you feel better about what we're looking at now yeah I'd think yeah I mean it's as painful as the process was that it was needlessly extended by from the gamesmanship on the backend we had ninety six hundred votes Dave Roberts and for senators didn't weren't there for various reasons but yeah I think I mean we should we need to throw the American people a lifeline both from a public health perspective and from a financial perspective and I think we we did the best we could and I'm sure it's not perfect but up I'm glad we got it done I think gamesmanship is a nice way to put it John to be honest with you I mean it seems as though you guys had a deal three or four days earlier Nancy Pelosi comes back from California who last time I checked is in the house she's not in the Senate whisper something to Chuck Schumer and then suddenly everything fell apart what is that all about I've never seen the house of representatives or the leader of the house the speaker have that much sway over the Senate what is that all about well but we knew she needed to pass it in the house and so she had some leverage and she knew it just like Chuck Schumer now we have some leverage even though we've been working on a bipartisan basis to come up with the deal and once we had a deal then they wanted to get a pound of flesh for their pet projects and unfortunately while we were able to limit most of it there's still some junk in the bill but I would say the overwhelmingly positive development finally but it just went on too long and people who needed help I didn't get it as fast as I would have liked but now it's on the way senator John Cornyn will get into the the the nuts and bolts about what is what does get done in the bill but I I wanna I wanna make sure to go here and and we remind those who are listening and watching that the left wanted to get things like solar power wind power let's cut emissions on airplanes for god's sake let's let's do this that or the other pet project is green thing here and it looks fine it's a bunch of blokes who want to make sure that Planned Parenthood would continue get financed me when they added that stuff in there it would have been easy for those of you on the right to say Hey we'll let the American people suffer and expose them for who they are and as you say most of that stuff went away but still there was some of the Kennedy center gets millions NPR and PBS gets billions for some reason John was it was at the point where you're saying to yourself I have to give people in my state and we have to get people in the United States some relief right now and we'll call them out on their politics that they played maybe in November is that how you look at it yeah is it me or is it an ordinary legislation sometimes the best answer is to say no yeah I am too hold all people accountable if the next election here I felt like this is such an emergency that we had to come up with a product and again I think ninety six senators voting for the bill speaks speaks for itself yeah that's not perfect as well you know they say you two thing you don't want to watch you progress one is sausage making and the others legislation and that's still true today so I think we get that we got it done now we're looking to see how do we implement this bill I talked to a number of folks back in the state trying to make sure that we actually make this bill work you can get the money to the people who needed the most as fast as possible it's funny to talk to bill Frist to some years ago he said the same exact thing it's like sausage making you don't really want to know and and I I get it in at the end of the day let's talk about what this does because there's a lot of speculation I'm an employee I've been laid off or furloughed do I get help I'm a company that will go out of business if I don't get some help do I get help do I have to pay the money back is there a limitation on buying back stock is limitation on CEO pay or bonuses if you can I know that's a that's eighteen different things but people call my show every days you know they want to know those specific answers so who gets what and are we are we protecting both companies and individuals which I think is very important well Joe like you I try to use social media to help us share information with the public market stage right with the public so people can look at my Twitter feed at John Cornyn and wild I've tried to try to summarize it but here let me up let me do it verbally here first of all people who are out of work through no fault of their own not getting paid we're sending them a check through the IRS it should be there in two weeks hopefully three weeks at the latest try to bridge them two of the unemployment insurance process we've seen a huge influx of new applications for unemployment insurance revenue that this other beloved demand so we beefed up the benefit we extended it for thirteen weeks and so hopefully between a combination of direct payments and unemployment compensation we can get people past this past this crisis but we also need to make sure their jobs available for them when we come out of that right and that's why we provided help to small businesses if they keep their focus on the payroll will we provide them loans and in some cases it may be forgiven just to maintain their relationship with their employee base we want to make sure that when we come out of this that people go back to work and continue lives as normal and then to the largest employers to hire hundreds of thousands if not millions of people in America and we have an economic stabilization program through the federal reserve where their lend lend money for a period of time they'll have to pay back its not a bailout and dug deep to get them to this crisis because what's happening is a lot of businesses since they don't have any demand for their services at your hotel or airline or the like right you're not earning any income but you are still having to pay your bills were trying to help them through that as long as the special plane is detectable is possible it's senator John Cornyn Republican great state of Texas John I'm wondering people were concerned about about a stock buy back about CEOs getting bonuses or pay raises order stipulates is that you can't do that yes there are and those were really not controversial items because India but I noticed that senator Schumer after he delayed the passage of the bill touted that his accomplishments but most of what he claimed as an accomplishment the stuff that was already in the building right away or that was not controversial but I guess you had to claims he had to justify the reason for his delay and actually getting the bill passed and help the people who need it senator John Cornyn as I understand it it's going to be based on your twenty nineteen earnings many people are that's if you if you filed already for twenty nineteen if you have it it'll look at your twenty eighteen earnings is that correct that's correct so it so people can go back and see okay this is what I mean twenty eighteen I'll get what would have been the same pay as I was receiving them how bout people better and we maybe who were unemployed just got jobs at the beginning of this year maybe in January they had a seasonal job turned into a full time job and now they're laid off it didn't have a you know some sort of I arrest record you know before that maybe they were on unemployment are they still gonna get something exactly worked out through the company how does that work yeah we've we've got filled some of those gaps in traditional unemployment insurance so that if you're an independent contractor or your seasonal employee you don't have to wait or have proof of a long standing job in order to get the benefits right we tried we tried to up by the safety net for everybody hopefully we got everybody it's included but if we didn't vote will come back in and try again senator John Cornyn go follow him online a matter where you are in the country go follow him at John Cornyn on Twitter and he's very receptive he does talk to people constituents and and beyond and yet go see the post that he made about what this bill does I just want to ask you what while I have you a lot of people are concerned about this April twelfth date I'm not I want to be open for business I and I don't want to be open for business so people die from cold nineteen or corona virus whatever call you today but I think that America being open for business shows our resiliency and ought to see it sooner than later is there any thought process about maybe saying California your hot spot New Yorker hotspot Washington state your hot spot middle America can slowly but surely start getting back to work around Easter is that possible what you're we're only human and we need hope in our lives yeah and I think of what the president tried to do is provide a hopeful message he understands and we all understand that if the if the if the science doesn't work if we still have hot spots that we're not going to be able to open our schools and businesses only in all parts of the country but just like governor Abbott did in Texas he didn't order one size fits all he looked it up to the more congested areas or urban areas and cities for the mayors and county judges to make orders as they see fit yeah but just like the rest of the country you know Texas we have more calcium people in some parts of the state and there's no reason to lock them down and I saw that the the the president is now ask the governors to sort of break their states in terms of the vulnerability to this virus and begin to gradually phase in re opening the country at the appropriate time a senator John Cornyn always appreciate the access of the time so glad you voted for this thing although I really wish the poor could been stripped out I'm gonna make sure that between now and November let everybody listening and watching know that there was garbage added to this simply because it was a political play by the left Hey you guys in the right I think you did you did the right thing by saying we have to help the American people now there's a concern by by people about how China was closed a closed off about this didn't tell us for weeks if not months that was happening they didn't update the I guess one of the chief scientist on on corona virus wanted to tell the world he ended up dead either from corona virus or by the Chinese government via a virus is there some sort of ramification we can bring maybe make them you know but bring us some remote oration about this John is there a way to get some money back from China in how they harmed us so badly well I think the most important thing we can do Joe is to make sure that we reduce our vulnerabilities yeah I think what this is demonstrators we have a lot of vulnerabilities to the virus the generated an eight animal food market that then jumped into a human beings and then created this pandemic and what I'm what I intend to do is to ask the National Academy of sciences as well as our intelligence community to report back to Congress and tell us what they beat feels of the comprehensive picture and then to make policy recommendations for what Congress can do one of the things we need to do is eliminate our dependency on China for medical supplies medical equipment and medicine and we need to make sure that the last pandemic that emanates from China and given their closed and secret society the Communist Party doesn't want to be embarrassed by the facts here we really can't trust what they're telling us what we have to make sure this doesn't happen again but one last thing was senator John Cornyn I always appreciate the time of the axis John the last question has to be might there be a silver lining here maybe as you say we'll start making our own medical equipment medical supplies maybe will start manufacturing even more so here in America and not be reliant on a far away land that we have no idea really what's happening inside that land could this be a positive outcome at the end of all this I think so because you know we we always try to learn from our mistakes and clearly well I don't think this pandemic was anybody's fault here in the United States yeah we we were we were more concerned about nuclear weapons and terrorism that when were pandemics Bill Gates years ago Ross said this is the biggest threat we have been here that being right yeah and we just we need to learn from it that we learn from it and make our our country safer and more prosperous in the process then I would say it's worth it but something good will come out of it it is senator John Cornyn appreciate the hard work you do for us here in Texas and for the American people John

"The Senate has adjourned until noon so millions of Americans are hoping for economic relief in several weeks still do not know if they'll get it Democrats blocked Republicans are reaching the sixty votes needed senator Schumer on why that happened the bill needs more money to offset the costs now being incurred by state and local governments who are propping up their health networks we cannot reach a point where our states and localities are going bankrupt or firing public employees like teachers first responders it comes as president trump did all he could in the evening news conference the calm Americans fears the president has authorized federal funding for the use of the National Guard in California New York and Washington state the head of FEMA insists it's not an imposition of martial law guardsmen and women will remain under the command of their governors president trumpet knowledges he's yet to order the manufacture of key medical supplies under the defense production act we're a country not based on nationalizing our business insists he's prepared to invoke his power but for the moment he believes private industry is up to the task doing it the way we're doing it is much better Steven Portnoy a CBS news
House passes sweeping coronavirus response package
"House speaker Nancy Pelosi worked out some deals with treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin on a package of financial aid for people who are being hurt by the virus and also how to just deal with the virus itself the Senate and they they had passed that on the house and the Senate is going to pick up today with a house left off on Friday and correspondent Linda canyon gets us up to date Michael all hopes turn to the Senate to work quickly on the latest coronavirus bill where minority leader Chuck Schumer says it should be taken up and passed right away I would say to leader McConnell passed the bill as is if people have ideas of to do other things and other amendments would have new legislation down the road would pass this now senator Schumer also faults leader McConnell for sending the send it home for the weekend rather than taking up the bill right after it passed in the house the bipartisan bill was largely the result of multiple hours of negotiations between house speaker Nancy Pelosi and treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin we thought it would be important to show the American people I assure the American people that we are willing and able to work together to get a job done for them secretary Mnuchin speaking on fox news Sunday says he hopes the Senate approves the bill quickly I think there's a lot of bipartisan support with we hope they pass this bill if not we'll work with Senate on whatever minor changes we need senator Schumer says he hopes the Senate doesn't make any changes no new amendments to help some special interest nothing everyone's gonna have a lot of good ideas there's going to be a third package in a fourth package in a fifth package but if we add things to this has to go back to the house back and forth the people of New York in the people of America can't wait house minority leader Kevin McCarthy on fox's Sunday morning futures says Americans we'll get through this together America working together can get through anything that we need and we showed this that last Friday night that we can what devices can come together for the American
John Roberts Condemns Schumer for Saying Justices ‘Will Pay the Price’ for ‘Awful Decisions’
"Chuck Schumer what the heck your your mind there and this guy's bad at what he does he really is but he's ticked off a lot of people here yeah he has so he is the top Democrat in the Senate and he threatened to Supreme Court justices during a pro abortion rally yesterday and the context is this the Supreme Court is hearing arguments over a bar in Louisiana that requires doctors at abortion clinics to have admitting privileges at a hospital now a similar law in Texas was ruled unconstitutional something like four years ago Chuck Schumer called out Jess is Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch by name the two guys trump nominated to the court yes he did I want to tell Kilgore's arch I want to tell you you release the whirlwind thank you very you if you go forward with these awful decision and they're taking away funds what made him want to he says he was talking to Republicans in the Senate I mean no he wasn't are you going share he named them so yes he didn't really apologize this morning but he did say something like I I should have used different words something like that never apologize the whole but John Roberts the Chief Justice iota statement he says justices know that criticism comes with the territory but threatening statements of this sword from the highest levels of government are not only inappropriate or dangerous no I I I think again you gotta think if trump had said something like that won't be the full on meltdown oh my god okay so Donald Trump what was it last week says that sort of my R. and Ruth pater Ginsburg should recuse themselves from all things involving Donald Trump yeah which is something the left has also argued when it comes to Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh yeah when trump says that he's pulling the Supreme Court he can't do that and Schumer even in his statement in response to to Chief Justice John Roberts he says the justice Roberts to follow the right wing's deliberate misinterpretation of what senator Schumer said ball remaining silent when president trump attacks justices Sotomayor and Ginsburg last week chose justice Roberts does not just call balls and strikes except John Roberts has issued statements about Donald Trump before about staying out of the judiciary yes this whole thing and we've wanted for a while how big of an issue will abortion B. in the presidential campaign Ford C.
President Trump Speaks About Coronavirus
"Many of the president's advisers have testified on Capitol Hill today about the corona virus and the administration's preparedness it has spread quickly across Europe at least thirteen European countries are now reporting cases initially four hundred forty people infected and the death toll at least twelve Bucks in Italy alone as the first U. S. service member has been diagnosed at a military base in South Korea in the United States the CDC is investigating reports of flight attendant has been diagnosed with the virus she had flown into and out of LAX airport in Los Angeles we are awaiting president trump's remarks in the White House briefing room a number of the president's aides including the health secretary ETS are are inside the room he has testified before Congress today this comes as a number of different countries are grappling with their own outbreaks in South Korea a U. S. soldier has come down to the coronavirus the military is ordering extra screenings of all service members and is a crucial step circling the Caribbean making an island using because someone on the phone is six we are awaiting president trump in the White House briefing room his aides have just come into the room Hey let's see what they have done we are waiting for the for some time waiting for us here's ABC's Devin Dwyer and very little time inside the room it is packed right now members of the cabinet behind me here you see economic council director Larry Kudlow's here health secretary Alex Cesar's yours while the president arrived back from India just this morning on the fact that he is holding this press conference today is a sign just how seriously he takes the threat from this disease and how seriously it could impact his presidency so we expect in the next few minutes presence talk about his plans and the two point five billion dollars he has a proposed an emergency fund it ABC's Devin Dwyer from the White House briefing room where we are awaiting president trump to speak to us about corona virus which has been spreading across Europe across Asia and for many medical experts they said there is an inevitable outbreak in the United States coming and we are waiting to hear what president trump has to say about it in the United States there seem to be about sixty cases health officials say American family should be prepared for more and the administration is taking pains to say that the United States is prepared even though some in the administration in recent days have seemingly played down the threat from corona virus as of president trump gets ready to declare the CDC and his administration are doing a great job handling corona virus she has tweeted that and he says there has not been one death in the United States let's keep it that way on Capitol Hill today the secretary of health and Human Services had a warning now even though Americans risk is low at the moment at the health secretary said that could change quickly lawmakers from both parties have voiced concern about the administration's response so as the president gets set to come to the White House briefing room microphone he does face that challenge not to induce panic but also to show that he is taking this seriously despite those tweets where he has seemingly tried to play down the threat we heard from at least one Republican senator today John Kennedy of Louisiana saying to the head of homeland security do we have enough respirators or not and and the the centers for disease control was pressed how many tests can the country conduct as of today and some Democrats have blamed the administration for failing to come clean on many of these are questions so we will see what the president is prepared to say any moment now as he walks into the White House briefing room to talk about the response to coronavirus as his administration faces what many medical experts say is an inevitable outbreak in the United States of the briefing room the White House briefing room which hasn't gotten the the the work out of late is now full of waiting president trump for the first time in that briefing room by the way since January of twenty nineteen and then not appearance he has a he declined to take questions so if he does take questions from all those reporters that are packed in there this would mark the first time in his administration he is taking questions inside the White House briefing room we'll see he has members of his cabinet that will be arrayed beside him as he gets set to take the podium to talk about the administration's response to corona virus that the president of course has been keeping a close eye on the the viruses climbing through Asia and Europe and it's also been closely watching the Dow Jones industrial average because that has taken a nose dive as of late amid fears that the virus is not contained in that will have been increasingly damaging effects on the economy not only the the American economy but the economy around the world companies like Microsoft came out today to say that the coronavirus is taking a toll much of what they manufacture in China is is taking a hit the administration has asked Congress for two and a half billion dollars to respond to the corona virus threats and house speaker Paul Losi said today that is not nearly enough and accusing the administration of an immediate response and so it seems Congress may be prepared for more president trump has now opened the doors to the briefing room followed by vice president Mike pence you're listening to live coverage from ABC thank you very much everybody thank you very much before I begin I'd like to extend my deepest condolences to the victims and families in Milwaukee Wisconsin earlier today wicked murder opened fire at a Molson Coors brewing company plant taking the lives of five people number of people were wounded so badly wounded our hearts break for them and their loved ones we send our condolences will be with them and it's a terrible thing terrible five our hearts go out to the people of Wisconsin then to the families thank you very much I've just received another briefing from a great group of talented people following the virus that is going around to various parts of the world we have through some very good early decisions decisions that were actually ridiculed at the beginning we closed up our borders through flights coming in from certain areas areas that were hit by the corona virus and hit pretty hard and we did it very early a lot of people thought we shouldn't have done it that early and we did and it turned out to be a very good thing and the number one priority from our standpoint is the health and safety of the American people unless you have unit when I made that decision because of all we've done the risk to the American people remains very low we have the greatest experts in the war really in the world right here the people that are called upon by other countries when things like this happen we we're ready to adapt and we're ready to do whatever we have to as the disease spreads if it spreads as most of you know the the level that we've had in our country is very low and those people are getting better a we think that in almost all cases there the better getting we have a total of fifteen we took in some from Japan you heard about that because they're American citizens and they're in quarantine and they're getting better too but we felt we had an obligation to do that it could have been as many as forty two and we found that we were it was just an obligation we felt that we had we could have left them and that would have been very bad very bad I think Merican papal and they're recovering of the fifteen people three original fifteen as I call them eight of them have returned to their homes to stay in their homes until fully recovered one is in the hospital and five have fully recovered and one is we think in pretty good shape and did serve in between hospital and going home so we have a total of but we have a total of fifteen people and they're they're in the process of recovering with some already having fully recovered we started out by looking at certain things that we've been working with the hill very very carefully very strongly and I think we are very good bipartisan spirit for money we were asking for two and a half million and we think that's a lot but the Democrats and I guess senator Schumer wants is that much more than that and normally life I say we'll take it we'll take it if they want to give more will do more we're gonna spend whatever's appropriate hopefully we're not gonna have to spend so much because we really think we've done a great job in keeping it down to a minimum and again we've had tremendous success tremendous success beyond what people would have thought now the same time you do have some outbreaks in some countries Italy and various countries are having some difficulty China you know about where it started I spoke with president xi we had a great talk he's working very hard I have to say is working very very hard and if you can count on the reports coming out of China that spread has gone down quite a bit the infection seems to have calmed down over the last two days as opposed to getting larger it's actually gotten smaller in one instance where we think we can be it's somewhat reliable it seems to have gotten quite a bit smaller with respect to the money that said being negotiated they can do whatever they want I mean they can we'll do that don't have we're requesting two and a half some Republicans would like us to get four and some Democrats would like this to get eight to half and we'll be satisfied whatever whatever it is we're bringing in a specialist very highly regarded specialist tomorrow who works actually at the state department very very tremendously talented in doing this I want you to understand something that shocked me when I saw that I spoke with the doctor felt she on this and I was really amazed and I think most people are amazed to hear that the flu in our country kills from twenty five thousand people to sixty nine thousand people a year that was shocking to me and so far if you look at what we have with the fifteen people and their recovery one is one is pretty sick but the hopefully we'll recover but the others are in great shape but think of that twenty five thousand to sixty nine thousand over the last ten years we've lost three hundred and sixty thousand these are people that have died from the flu from what we call the flu Hey did you get your flu shot and that something now what we've done is we've stopped non US citizens from coming into America from China that was done very early on with screening people we have been at a very high level of screening people coming into the country from infected areas we have in quarantine those infected and those at risk we have a lot of great quarantine facilities for rapidly developing vaccine and they can speak to you the professionals can speak to you about that the vaccine is coming along well and speak into the doctors with like this is something that we can develop fairly rapidly a vaccine for the future and coordinate with the support of our partners we have great relationships with all of the countries that we're talking about some it's fairly large number of countries so much one person and many countries have no problem whatsoever and we'll see what happens but we're very very ready for this for anything whether it's going to be a break out of larger proportions or whether or not where you know we're at that very low level and we want to keep it that way so we're at the low level as they get better we take them off the list so that we're going to be pretty soon at only five people that we could be at just one or two people over the next short period of time so we've had very good luck the Johns Hopkins I guess it is a highly respected great place they did it is still a a study comprehensive the country's best and worst prepared for an epidemic and the United States is now we were rated number one we're rated number one for being prepared this is a list of different doctors and I want to get in your special food for the fifty giga this is a list of the different countries United States is rated number one most prepared United Kingdom Netherlands Australia Canada Thailand Sweden Denmark South Korea Finland

"Counsel. Twenty-seven hours. You want to ask him more questions. The Justice department says it's not necessary. Meaning that there, there's no reason that, that they should be able to subpoena him. The White House said, don't go. That's the cover up. It's not a cover up the president. He's come out to say soon afterwards. He that oppressor. And he said, well, we'll we'll, we'll cover-ups cover-ups the time all the bills paid this is what happened. No collusion. No obstruction. No, nothing. They issued fifty orders authorizing use of pen registers. Think of that the five hundred witnesses and then I have Nancy Pelosi go out and say that the president of the United States engaged in a cover-up. Now, we've had a house investigation. We have Senate investigation. We have investigations like nobody's ever had before. And there's nothing we did nothing wrong. They would have loved to have said, we colluded. They would've loved it. These people were out. To get us the that there is no doubt, so Nancy Pelosi before going to meet with the president's talk about infrastructure at the White House says he's guilty of a cover up. The president enters the meeting three minutes. He's gone. He's not going to work with them. Goes to the rose garden to have a press conference. To say exactly that. This is madness. When do we actually start working on things? And as he said it, we have two tracks here that we can do that. You probably can't go down two tracks. You can go down v investigation track, and you can go down the investment track, or the track of let's get things done for the American people. I love the American people. Drug prices are coming down first time in fifty one years, because of my administration, but we can get down way, lower working with the Democrats, we can solve the problem of the border in fifteen minutes. If the Democrats would give us a few votes. So I just wanted to let you know that I walked into the room and I told. Senator Schumer speaker Pelosi, I wanna do infrastructure. I want to do it more than you wanna do it. I'd be really good at that. That's what I do. But you know what? You can't do it under these circumstances. So he's done with the press conference. He goes inside then Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer's to the speaker of the house, and the Senate minority leader surrounded by a bunch of other Democrats have themselves a press conference and ANSI Pelosi says, I, I call it a cover up. Now, let's go the emasculation in prayer route, we ranked in the spirit of bipartisanship to find common ground with the president on this, this, he came into the room made it statement that he made was, I won't even characterize it for some reason, maybe it was lack of confidence on his part that he really couldn't come match the greatness of the challenge that we have didn't wasn't really respectful of. Of the congress and the White House working together. He just. Took a pass, and it just makes me wonder why why he did that in any event, I pray for the president of the United States. That's nice me. I'm Tony cats. Tony cats today. Eight three three got Tony eight three three four six eight eight six six nine. We might still hear more from a speaker Pelosi today. I just wanted to get everybody up to speed on some of this insanity. I spoke with Ed Henry, a Fox News correspondent about that. I'll share more of that in a little bit. I wanna take to New York, there is a fascinating story from the New York Post about racism in the schools. This is really just really ugly. Four top department of education executives, demoted or stripped of duties under chancellor, Richard car Carranza. See. A. R. A. N. Z. A. C. A. R A, N Z ridge of Karonga. They've stripped to their duties under his reorganization. They're suing the city. They're suing the city because Richard Caramba is creating an environment which is hostile towards whites. Hold on. Wait a second. I'm sorry. What an environment which is hostile towards whites. The women fill women who have been demoted all white veteran administrators say they were pushed aside, for less qualified persons of color. This has gone up amazing. The decisions made because department of education leadership believes that skin color plays, a role in how to get equity that white, people can't convey the message that according to a source familiar with the complaints now speaker Pelosi take into the podium there on Capitol Hill to talk about the cover up comments and other things with President Trump. Let's take her as we go into Memorial Day weekend, which is such a beautiful time for us to remember respect and honor, we honor the service and sacrifice our heroes in uniform and reaffirm, our sacred duty to never forget that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The service ever veterans reminds of our mission to build a future, where they of their sacrifice and reduce so armee oaths, we take to support and defend the constitution and to protect the America. People honoring that oath, this week, the half past nine bills to support veterans protecting their health benefits the national security, and taking actions to end the prices of in suicide. We also passing urgently-needed fix for military families facing tax hikes, under the GOP tax scam with the kiddie tax Republicans took half a billion dollars from working class families and gave it to big corporations, and the wealthy a half a billion the kitty tech, it is unacceptable that five children of our fallen heroes who have suffered so much are now forced to pay thousands of additional dollars in taxes. Well, she's going to go through a laundry list of what she's going to claim as accomplishments in some very well could be. She's not going to get to the good stuff for a little bit. We will take the break. We'll see if Nancy Pelosi is still talking will continue the story in New York people being fired for being white, because they can't deliver the message of education to non white students, this self segregation, doesn't it up in a good spot, and the national popular vote that doesn't end up. Good either. I'm.

"They were unfazed by these investigations. They remained focused on doing the people's business. That's how it's gone on the best. Our current president by contrast is shall we say, phased, and very, very willing to show it. I just wanted to let you know that I walked into the room and I told. Senator Schumer speaker Pelosi, I wanna do infrastructure. I want to do it more than you want to do it. I'd be really good at that. That's what I do. But you know what? You can't do it under these circumstances. So get these phony investigations over with. I'm not going to do even the things I wanna do. Unless you get these phony investigations over with. And you know who knows it is possible that this bizarre spectacle from the president today was all planned out well in advance, right? Maybe it was it was on the secret White House calendar. We don't get to see today, maybe on that calendar today was always going to be Wednesday fake, impromptu rose garden speech, demanding all investigation cease or the American people's roads, and bridges will get it or maybe that was always what they had planned for today in the rose garden, they did have a preprinted sign on the podium today. When the president stood up there to make those comments. I don't know how long it takes them to make those pre-printed signs. That set, there's also reporting today, that suggests that the president was driven absolutely bunkers by Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats telling reporters today that they believe the president is engaged in a cover-up of Muller's findings in the potentially impeachable behavior described in Muller's report. So maybe this wasn't long today. Maybe this really was a spontaneous outburst from the president. Maybe he really was driven mad by this allegation that he's engaged in a cover-up seems weird of all the things Democrats have said he's done, and that he has been described as doing cover up is the one that really stinks him the one that really bugs him for some reason. You like being an agent of a hostile foreign power would be the one that would really stick. But barely doesn't mind that one cover up. No don't cover up or the country gets it. I mean it's so random maybe being accused of carrying out a cover up is the thing that drove imagining this was a spontaneous outburst. I think it is also worth considering whether the holy grail of sort of upon us now. And the thing the president, most cares about his financial history, his banking history. His taxes story, whether that whole financial history and everything that will say about him related to the scandal and not that stuff. Is now getting pride open on multiple fronts. All at once in two different federal courtrooms in the past three days in a state legislature in the state where he has lived since he was born. And we're all his businesses are based at the IRS for the shaky ground. They've been standing on and trying to avoid handing over his taxes that shaky ground is quickly turning into something that seems like quicksand. I mean, other presidents in times of crisis have tried to keep on carrying on in terms of, you know, appearing to have it legislative agenda. And in fact, carrying one out finding common ground moving forward doing the people's work. Looking unfazed? That is not how this one is going to go. Apparently. So what do you do if you have a job in this government, right? What do you do? If you are trying to run congress or part of congress. If you're trying to think about legislation as part of your job is occasionally needing to meet with this guy when he has just declared government over, unless everybody leaves him alone stops investigating him. I mean how do you plan your workday around that? The democratic leader in the United States Senate is Chuck Schumer he was right in the middle of all of this today. He said today that what he saw from the president today, would quote make your jaw drop. Some are Schumer joins us live next. You have the best of intentions.

"Not one penny of inspe- infrastructure improvement will occur in the United States of America, as long as the president of the United States is being investigated. I walked into the room and I told. Senator Schumer speaker Pelosi, I wanna do infrastructure. I want to do it more than you want to do it. I'd be really good at that. That's what I do. But you know what? You can't do it under these circumstances. So get these phony investigations over with. That statement alone by any other president would be an impeachable offense to say I will not perform perform my constitutional duty as long as I'm being investigated would be inundated self an article of impeachment against any other president, but this congress has a Republican Senate which will abide any violation of Donald Trump's oath of office, and has already abided, many of them, and the democratic house is now apparently lost on what impeachable offense actually means they all agree, even the speaker that the president has committed impeachable offenses, but they do not agree that the president should be impeached for impeachable offenses. And they have yet to explain that this is the first time in history that a party in the house representatives has had such a tortured relationship to the issue of impeachment, but the courts are marching on against the president in ways that are possibly almost as devastating as impeachment. The funny thing about the word impeachment compared to the way. Cover is that President Trump has finally found a word that he thinks the president just should not say? All of a sudden, I hear last night, they're going to have a meeting right before this meeting. To talk about the I word the I word. Can you imagine what I could not match is the Donald Trump would find a word that he is afraid to say in public. You know, they say confidential sources given notice they never write the names of people anymore. Everything is a source says there is no source. The person doesn't exist the person's not alive. It's bullshit. Okay. From the start. The only possibility for the for infrastructure has been that Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, Donald Trump would build a road to nowhere. Because the Democrats and the Trump party will never agree on infrastructure legislation. Some Democrats would be willing to pay for infrastructure spending with a gasoline tax cuts to defense spending, and Republicans would not agree to pay for infrastructure spending at all periods zero Republicans, would not support infrastructure spending. They would simply support giant tax breaks for companies engaged in very loosely defined infrastructure projects. So there has never been even a one percent of a possibility chance of an agreement on infrastructure legislation and Democrats knew that, but they did not want to appear to be unwilling to negotiate with, with President Trump and so Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have repeatedly allowed for the possibility of negotiations in their last discussion with the president. They asked the press..

"A by the way i love the way that um uh senator cornyn who has the majority whip in the in the senate uh put it and i'm kinda paraphrasing but i think it's close it he was giving uh senator schumer you know uh and the democrats something to chiuwan by delaying the vote by the way the the vote was going to be but tonight they'd guys tentative ocoee it was going to be there was going to be a vote then they even said it could we could have it by we could stays latest one am to get it done and then they said no no no because the headcount didn't good showed that they didn't have it just yet although he's you do have some moderate so on board of course the the democrat serving in uh in in loose in red states uh like a mansion he's he's on board um so the question is can they get too the votes that they need uh by noon today they didn't have it tonight so they want to give the democrats according to cornyn something to chew on over this whole thing well i guess we'll see exactly were they think the whole dako thing if you look at what the democrats are saying to the republicans the democrats are looking at at trump and republicans saying look we dare you to start deporting dreamers go ahead go ahead start enforcing that in march you know you want storm you want you know something that that could affect you in november that's it we know you're not going to do that we know the president's on board for dako that's where they are right now and so we're gonna sit here and i i wonder if they'll get it done by noon i i don't know or or during that vote at all while it's interesting because of the pulse shows at ninety six percent of democrats in the poll support of it only forty nine percent say it's more important than pasquin a budget right look when it comes to.

"And and liz i i certainly think that immigration is important to the uh democratic party into democrats that's certainly true but i just want to go through three facts that i have on my radar screen here to push back on this notion that democrats are somehow against border security or best against either five number one uh according to senator schumer he and president trump as early as yesterday that talking about a deal whereby there would be more funding for the wall as part of dhaka reform and according to senator schumer it was president trump who walked away from that deal that summer one number two the senate republicans and senate democrats and in fact there were house members there to came to president trump with aid deal hey mr president we've reached a deal we've got a deal to keep the government open we've gotta deal to include budget reform and trump rejected it saying i want even more money for the wall and then the third example i'll give even predates president trump and that's when democrats republicans in the senate passed with an overwhelming vetoproof majority and immigration reform bill that included e verify exactly what you're talking about now lives and ending the watery that you talked about larry those we're all supported by democrats large be crazy in the past look that deal is on the table let's bring list it's not part of the deal he dan i there was there was a deal reached between a certain group of republicans and a certain group of democrats the problem is that group of republicans which included for example lindsey graham did not really represent a great many of the conservatives uh uh go would not jammeh clad in the however no i find out what i'm saying is and the democrats knew that that was not going to fly uh with the majority of republicans split i'm not saying that this is an easy fix but i think that there has been uh too little genuine negotiating i mean it yesterday when when schumer and trump uh matt who knows really what they talked about but i think it was pretty clear that trump was very eager to avoid a shutdown i think schumer thought it was maybe a good political poiti how it happened is i don't think that's true lewis on the lindsey graham disagreement with um with the president and some of the conservatives in the senate was that over the border the socalled wall no i think it it partly the funding for the wall i.
