"Me a steaming hypocrite or something like that which I would I I'll cop to that. The thing is. I will cop to it. But also, there's two things one is the Hillary lock up the the the caller for those you who weren't here. I was basically saying they have nothing on the president. And they've been. The president's opponents have been after him with a very expensive and detailed investigation with the power of. The most powerful people in the world, the FBI and are in the federal government were investigating the president from the outset. And they've and they're still investigating while he's president. It's really quite remarkable. And they have come up with so far. A campaign finance violation. And it's a little embarrassing for them. Which is why the Democrats in the media are huffing so loudly about oh, we got him. Now, he's on the run. But I was saying to myself, and I was saying to you that I think the president does seem fairly confident and a lot of people think that's a funny thing. Of course, he's not confident he screaming like a guilty person. He's he's fraying at the edges all this kind of stuff. I happen to think the opposite. And I think with good reason he doesn't have much to worry about frankly, I think he's dealt with bigger crisis in his life than this. Many times he went bankrupt. I can remember in the late eighties. When I didn't even know much about Donald Trump. I knew that he had that book the art of the deal, and he was kind of this strange rich guy who was always on TV. That the New York tabloids were saying it's over it's the end of Donald Trump. I I it was it was really remarkable every single day. There was an article about Donald Trump in the downfall of Donald Trump. And then he came back, and then he wrote another book about the art of putting it back together or something like that. Because he came out he was in debt, and he was losing all his companies. And then he he did something to kind of come out of it and come back in some way. But. In any case, the he's been dealing with this kind of stuff all the time. But this is obviously on a on a different scale. But the. Issue that our last caller had was he called me a hypocrite. And then he mentioned Hillary Clinton you guys were screaming locker up. Now. I was not a big lock her up screamer. But I do think Hillary Clinton should have been prosecuted. I think that the the Email server thing that she did was and I don't think she would've been she would've been put in jail over it. I think they should have just investigated her. I think they should have done it long before they did. And you know, maybe I would even say maybe James Comey was right. Not to prosecute our during that because it was during an election. But at some point I would think she would have to answer for what she did. Maybe it wasn't during the campaign. And maybe if she was elected president they would conduct an investigation, and they would have published their findings. I don't think she was I do not think she was ever going to go to jail for that. But it was fairly serious. What she did. And in terms of a political thing. I think it actually should have heard her more the fact that she almost became president that half the country voted for when she really exhibited criminal behavior. While in public service in that she got a server and she installed it on her own for the purpose of hiding. Her communications from the American people. Not just I'm using a private server. Oh, and that, you know, the thing about state secrets, you know, the she was emailing on an unsecured. The fact that it was unsecure that's not the bad part of it. I mean, I know that's the that was the the that was one of the things that was going to get her in trouble because there are big penalties for sending classified information in an unsecure way. But as far as a betrayal of the trust of of her in office. What we know? She did because she's a very deceptive criminal type of character, Hillary Clinton both of the Clintons are she created a server with the express purpose of hiding information. So that eventually she was investigated, which she knew she would because to be to be fair. There are too many investigations of pub of people in office. And I say this I scribbled down while I was talking to someone in the last hour. I didn't get to say it the bar for investigations. Of political figures must be very high because the potential for abuse of power by political opponents is just too great. So both Democrats and Republicans the bar should be very high. And if people do bad things. The presidency is an important job. And we shouldn't investigate them after they're out of office in most cases, that's what should happen with Bill Clinton. And the fact that he abused an intern, which he did it was very bad. He did lots of bad stuff to women all of that stuff should have been investigated. And all of his victims should have been taken seriously, but we should have let him finish his office. And then you could prosecute them in. And then in the clear light of day could be prosecuted as a criminal, and there there wouldn't be any political. Angle to it because he'd be out of office already the bar for investigation political figures must be very high right now, it's very low. Because the potential for abuse of power by political opponents is just too great. Quote, Tom shillue carve that into a bar, soap guys. So the the point is a I'm not that hypocritical because I really wasn't expecting Hillary to every locked up. That's a B is Hillary's issue was much more of a betrayal of her. Position than anything. Donald Trump has done. So Hillary was worse. She still probably wasn't getting locked up for it. I was not exactly the biggest locker up chanter. Even though I do think she should have been prosecuted and d for the fourth element of my argument is hypocrisy is not that big of a crime. Because everybody does it. And like, I always say hypocrisy is just someone who holds certain standards and doesn't live up to them. I'm less concerned about someone who sets standards high and doesn't live up to them. Then somebody who doesn't have any standards at all. So that's why hypocrisies. One of the last things I accuse people of. I accuse people of having no standards before I accuse them of having hypocrisy because they have no standards. So they have nothing to be hypocritical about right? Okay. How about this? I'm concerned about people's liberty. This is a story. I wanna talk to you guys about. And I thought we used to be a great discussion for our second hour eight three three eight five two four eight six six just to get you ready. Get your hand floating over the push-button phone eight three three eight five two four. Tom is the number New York state Bill would review social media internet history as part of background checks. Listen to this guys. This is in New York. Okay. People applying for a pistol permit or renewing a license could have their social media accounts and internet history reviewed. It's part of a new Bill in from the New York state Senate is the state Senator Kevin Parker of the twenty first district introduced Senate Bill ninety one ninety one he wants to keep firearms out of the hands of people who might be violent. That's his stated purpose. He wants to keep firearms art of the hands of violent people. Do you think that's what this is about? I don't I think this is about the government deciding it wants to track everything everybody does at all times. This measure requires social media and search engine reviews prior to the approval of an application or renewal of a licensed to carry or possess a pistol or revolver. Social media. Search engine reviews prior to the approval of your firearm license. It requires a person applying for licensed to carry or possess a pistol. To have his or her social media accounts and search engine history reviewed an investigating investigated for certain posts, listen to this. They're reviewing all of your social media accounts for for a period of one to three years for what guys. For. Language used to describe race, national origin. Ancestry gender, religion disability or sexual orientation threatening health or safety of another person. Or act of terrorism. They throw that in the end or act of terrorism. So if they comb through your social media feed, and they find language that they determine to describe races peoples ancestry or gender or sexual orientation in a derogatory way. You don't get a pistol license. Have you heard about this story? This is a local story here in New York. That'd be splashed on the front page of every paper eight three three eight five two four eight six six eight three three eight five two four, Tom. I can bet you know, whenever I read these stories, and I don't see a D or or or next to the name. I mean, ten to one state Senator Kevin Parker is a democrat, right? Either that or maybe he's in. Well, I was gonna say oh Cossio Cortez's party. But she is in the Democratic Party. Now. Listen to this gates police chief James vanderbeek road. I gotta give this guy. A shout out. Police chief van abroad believes a history of mental illness and domestic violence is a better predictor of future behaviors. Thank you chief. Here's a quote from the chief we chase down these social media threats and very few of our ever legitimate. Because it's easy to sit behind the keyboard and say, something bad or do or do like that. I would even agree that this has become a violation of your privacy rights. Thank you. Gates police chief James Vander Brody for stepping in and giving an opinion on something. Police chiefs. Are notoriously mealy-mouthed because when you become a police chief, usually your ride's rise. I like talking to cops. I like talking to beat cops. I like talking to uniform cops I like talking to detectives you. I've had some of them on this show because they're honest, you sit around in a bar with a cop, and they tell like it is. And they say this is the way it is on the street. Okay. And the people at one police plaza if that's the I don't know what that is that the. I just. Sounded right. The people back in the office. The Commissioner of the of the police certainly in this city now under the mayor that we have the democratic mayor. The people who run the police organizations are often essentially bureaucrats and there there are a lot like the James Comey's of the world. Okay. They do a lot of yapping, but they don't say anything, and they have a lot of high minded principles. But really they're just there to. To hold onto the power of the entrenched bureaucracy. So I got to give a shoutout to chief James Vanderberg road who comes out and says now, this is a bad. I mean, he didn't exactly say this thing stinks. But he says we chase down these social media threats, very fewer ever legitimate. Thank you. Of course, they are. Because most of the garbage that happens on the internet is is nothing. Now, I would agree in that long list of things about race, natural origin in national origin. Disability. Gimme a break. So somebody posts a picture of somebody that you deem that they're making fun of someone with a handicap, maybe there's a meme or something that's insensitive, and then you don't get a pistol permit. I would like to take that to the supreme court. I'm already going to the supreme court with this thing. And it hasn't even been passed yet. This thing better not passed and we ought to publicly. Shame anybody who who stands for it. But. The larger question is what's happening. To our freedom as we're being tracked. Anyway. We're being tracked. Anyway, that law would make gun. Purchaser would make rather the the permit process. They would force them to look at your social media. Okay. Which would make me eliminate all my social media, which I would rather not do. But I would do it in a second. But just this kind of the fact that we have politicians proposing laws like this. It makes me wanna go a dark guys dark in a big way as in disconnected as in get myself a cabin chop some wood throw away my phone. And ride my horse and buggy to Fox News.

So I I understand where this is coming from the idea that you need to pass a social media check to buy a gun because here's why here's where it's coming from. When we've had some of these horrific school shootings mass shootings people go back, and they're like, oh my God. Look at this guy has been threatening crazy stuff. Red flag. Right. But does acting crazy on social media automatically disqualify you from owning a gun if so we're going to about four people left with God. Well, don't tell that to a New York lawmaker who has now introduced a Bill. Holy cow people. The Bill Bruce would require police to scrutinize social media and online searches if you are applying for a handgun license now. Here's the thing. What this would do is. It would require you. Yes. You to turn turnover. Your log in information, a hold your breath. So that investigators could look back over three years worth of. Yeah. Facebook Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, Google, Yahoo Bing, search is over the previous year would also be checked. Are you kidding me? Yeah. I get. I can understand where it comes from. I disagree with the the product Genesis of it, really. I mean like. If you want to go back and try to find this on your own. So be it, but social media free speech, right and should government be at state, local or federal be in the business of investigating your social media profile to determine whether or not you can exercise your second you, and I have talked about common sense gun laws and gun regulation. We'll get people's feathers all ruffled. But I think that there are certain things that we could do as a society to take it to the next level. And I say that as a gun owner myself, but this is way too far. This is Senator Kevin Parker out of the state of New York talking about why he has introduced this Bill. This should be rich is a new time is a new technology. It's time that we in fact, hats off having that conversation about how we monitor social media. So they're making the argument when you look at some of these people who've committed crime they have. They've telegraphed their punch on social media. They've ranted about blacks, Jews, Muslims, whatever. And then gone out to commit crimes. I would make the argument that as opposed to using disqualify people is gun owners that you use some of these social media rains where people. Credible threats. You know, the types of things that get you banned on social media that law enforcement follow up on those. Do you see what I'm saying? Like, if you want if you want to go about it that way, don't use it as a denial use it as the owners to go in and knock on somebody's door and go. Hey, we want to talk to you about your your Facebook post of yesterday. Yeah. Where you wanted to burn the synagogue down and kill all the Jews. So if you wanna look for some sort of alternative to that, then how about creating a court order of protection to bar people considered dangerous from having those guns. I mean, if you want to go that route than that. Understand that. Yeah. I just throw that out there right now, not not even thinking about it too much because you could probably shoot holes in that argument. Even I just think that like giving the government because I mean, in essence, that's what you're doing access to your online history through Loggins and searches it just makes me really uncomfortable. Here's a here's a little bit more on what is being proposed in the state of New York. Which would in essence, you know, you would have to pass a social media check to get a gun. Not just a background check. But a social media check. The unique Bill would give police access to three years of Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram postings. They also would check a year of internet searches. Applicants would turn over their logging information. Yeah. Man chime in on this search. Yeah. Yeah. On the open mic line six zero two two hundred two seven three three. We want to hear from you guys on this one. I am with you, Bruce where I get the knee jerk reaction of why this lawmaker thinks that this is a good idea. The red flag argument look at the things straight as soon as there's some sort of shooting ensue as soon as there's some sort of national meeting because unfortunately, we'll probably have one of the next couple of months that we have to tell you guys about inevitably what do people I do go back forensically look at all the stuff they've posted it, and then we say, well, why didn't somebody see this? All righty. We'll get a picture of them holding the gun with the swastika. You should have known. Yeah. But if you were looking to purchase a gun, would you want to hand over all.

"Why aren't they? Making a bigger deal. Then while we all know why? Another store here. And this my friends is the future get ready for it. Prepare yourselves fourth start deleting social media now because this is coming. This is from the blaze gun buyers social media internet history could be reviewed before purchases under a proposed New York Bill. Now, you have no idea what the the climate in this particular area of New York is and how this is going to pan out. But I will tell you this line of thinking this logic is on the way to a lot of different facets of our lives. And gun buying. I can see it being very real a very real possibility soon. A New York. Long enforcement officials could review gun buyers social media internet search histories prior to purchase under a proposed Bill. Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams and state Senator Kevin Parker announced the proposed legislation in the wake of last month's mass murder of eleven people at Pittsburgh's tree of life synagogue, the station said in fact, in light of the fact that the suspect had posted anti-semitic messages online. Adams told WPA such expressions on social media should be used against those wanting to buy guns should be used against those wanting to buy guns. The proposed Bill would authorize state and local law enforcement of the government to review three years of social media history. Facebook Twitter, Instagram Snapchat, in one year of internet search history one year of internet search history for anyone seeking to purchase a gun in the entire state. The station said are obviously tons of problems here already. Privacy violations of not to mention the the man hours. Can you imagine that? Okay. John Doe wants to buy a firearm. All right. Well, this particular government official has to sit there and review three years of social media history on four different social media platforms. And not only that but they had to go through a year of internet search history for anyone seeking to purchase a gun, not a handgun, not a rifle gun. So I'm guessing it's any firearm. Three years on social media and he year of internet search history. So I guess we have to hand over are you James and passwords these accounts. So they can access all this. I guess we have to turnover are our hard drives our computers or give them access to that. Somehow. So they can do that. Tung by invasion of privacy thought about overreach of the government. My gosh, people this is and this is where this is where it's coming. This is what's going on? Search engines including Google Yahoo. And being will be looked at and the individuals requesting Richard vacation also would be checked police will look for patterns of potential gun buyers. Engaging violent hate speech or posing threats of violence themselves or others. This is scary. That's a scary stuff. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. And so it's important for us to continue to review our laws as it relates to access to guns and other kinds of weapons. Parker told the station. What with with freedom comes responsibility in. And this is completely doing away with the responsibility aspect of it. Adam still WPA that too many people who are emotionally disturbed are doing in showing their emotional. Are doing and showing their emotional instability on the social media platforms yet these platforms are not being used properly scrutinize if an individual should purchase a firearm. The first amendment right of free speech and a second right to bear arms were taken into consideration Adams added to the daily news now, I don't see how either one of those were taken against nation with this. Asinine bill. We're not talking about a person advertising. I hate a particular like an official. I hate a policy that past. He told the paper if there is something that law enforcement officer or reasonable mind reviewed that shows this person is not hold the mental capacity to own a gun, and he should not be able to get a permit. We should use the same standard determines whether a police officer can hear you again. So. Who's who's the official? That is to deem if somebody is reasonable or not. If what they're saying. Is hate speech because that that that's getting redefined every day every minute of every day. Someone can talented someone could technically say on their social media profile. I'm going to buy a gun and go shoe someone and still walk in the store and buy the gun without the flagging of that illegal action. He told the daily news. The question is how much is going to cost human lives that we don't start checking social media. Well, I I wonder who's in charge of it who's going to be the person to determine whether or not what I'm saying hate speech. Yeah. There's there's just so many questions here. I don't know where to begin with the question. But if you have any insight of this, I would certainly love to hear your thoughts triggered a range USA dot com. You're listening to triggered with Scott Kilby here brought to you by ranger say here on six hundred WNYC ninety two point one. We are discussing the latest story from the blaze that gun buyers social media internet history could be reviewed before purchases. So I don't know who's who's to say. Who's to say, what's what's what's hate speech? Who's to say the things I'm saying on Facebook, or Twitter or Instagram or Snapchat? Who's to say that any of this? Where's the threshold? What what word what word can't say? How many what words can't I say what determines all this? Who's to say? This is hate speech. And this is nice speech. It's freedom of speech people. It's the good speech, isn't what has to be protected. It's the questionable speech. It's the it's the it's the speech that makes you feel uncomfortable. If the spate is the speech that's hurtful. It's the speech this hateful. It's the speech that you don't agree with. That's the speech. That's protected by our first amendment. Not the not the speech that everybody agrees with. Why would you have to have an amendment about the speech that everybody agrees with that? Does make sense the speech that the founding fathers were talking about in the first amendment was that speech that was questionable that speech that came across as rude or hateful or spiteful or or anti whatever you were four. That's the speech we need to protect. So, you know, then you get into the debate. Or what's speech was not. Well. A what? That's not a question that anybody can answer they might try to put limitations on it. But at that point. That's that's not law. That's opinion. That's going to be changed by the next person that comes into that position. Not to mention the countless thousands of hours that's gonna take. To pour through all the social media and internet search history. Can you imagine if the government go through internet search history, how often do you hear a story here about a story somewhere, and you Google something that might pertain to that story is not something you normally Google of new normally look up, but you're curious about what the story means. All sudden. Okay. That's my search history. All right. Well, I wanted to learn more about it does that mean that I of scribe that point of view does that mean that I believe what is being said that believe me that I enjoy what's on that particular website or what's being discussed or debated on that website. No mayors. Wanna learn more about it? Maybe I just wanted to. To see the other side or understand the other side or or hear more about what they had to say. But all of a sudden that's going to be taken into consideration. When it signed by a firearm. Or when time to buy whatever weapon, they deem next a nice set of steak knives at your local bed, bath and beyond. You have to do a background check for all that. Because those knives can be pretty deadly. What about automobiles? Alcohol drinking and driving. Check your search history. You know, what if I for example, Facebook say I'm gonna get slobbering drunk, and I want to go drive down. I forty in killed when many people's I can you say that before you post it on Facebook before you go into it. What's is somebody gonna do? They have to check that before year. Liquor store will sell you your your alcohol. It makes no sense. But it never does from the liberals the progressives. It never makes sense. It's all feel good. It's. Emotional.
