Georgia is now a 'true toss-up state'
"The bordering state of Georgia state. Democrats have carried just once in the past nine presidential cycles but we're both parties particularly in this last week. Believe it's Biden that has the slight edge right now going into election day nearly four million votes have been cast so far. In Georgia, it compares to just over four million votes that were cast. All told four years ago and the fivethirtyeight dot com polling average has biden up by just a point and a half and it makes Georgia. A true toss up state is where we find Blaine Alexander. She is in Atlanta and really it is about Atlanta turn out and the Atlanta suburbs. What do you tell us? You know chuck just the fact that we are even talking about state of Georgia right now shows you just how much things have changed in this. Once reliably red state you know consider this president trump won the state. Of Georgia when in two thousand, sixteen by five points without making a single stop here once he became the party's official nominee will now we're seeing the president twice in the peach state in. The final three weeks of this campaign including stop today. Now, on the democratic side, we're seeing assault from Senator Kamala Harris also today tomorrow former President Barack Obama will be in Atlanta, and all of this of course comes on the of Joe Biden's appearance here just last week. So Chuck in addition to all of these closing arguments though we're going to be watching closely to see exactly how Georgia actually handles this. Election remember the last time we saw Georgians head to the polls was during the June primary. That's when we saw people waiting in line outside at times in the rain for hours to cast their ballot and many of the early voters that I spoke to this time around say that was a big reason that they came out early this time that coupled with Stacey Abrams narrow defeat for governor back in two. Thousand Eighteen they say that they WANNA make sure that there's enough time to troubleshoot as they say to make sure that if they come into any issues with technology or long lines, they'll be able to work that out and have their vote count now as if all of that wasn't enough this year, Georgia has not one but two US Senate seats up for grabs and Democrats are hoping to flip them both

"You time. All right. We got more ahead here. Tonight, stay with us. Iowa residents on their way to president trump's rally at the airport. Tonight were greeted by this actually quite literally amazing billboard trump covid super super spreader events with the big Arrow pointing toward the venue for the president held his event. The billboard is the work of a group called Rural America Twenty Twenty and it is hilarious and spot on also the president's rally at a hangar at the airport. Tonight really did violate all public health recommendations about Cova look at this. In fact had violated the recommendations about covert from the president's own, White. House that register pointing out today that the latest report from the White House Corona. Virus Task Force Puts Moines Iowa in the yellow zone for covid transmission and part of the White House gatherings in yellow zones are supposed to be limited to twenty five or fewer people. Presidents Rally tonight had thousands of people at it into point. But the president apparently feels like he really needs to be in. Iowa right now even though he won that state for years ago by nearly ten points, he looks to be very much in danger of losing it next month polls in the last month of had the race between trump and Biden in Iowa at anywhere from a tie to a Biden lead five points. And it's not just the presidential race that Republicans are at risk of losing in Iowa incumbent. Republican US Senator Joni Ernst has been trailing her Democratic challenger Theresa. Greenfield in every poll in Iowa for the last month Senator Ernst has been consistently down two or three or even five points to Greenfield. Republicans. CanNot Afford to lose Ernst Senate seat if they want to hold onto the Senate but it looks like Theresa Greenfield. Is Poised to take it away from her so it's Iowa, tonight for the president's covid super spreader rally tomorrow, the president will be in North Carolina as will vice presidential nominee Kamla Harris on the democratic side she just told us tomorrow is the first day of early voting in north. Carolina that state is absolutely on the table in terms of the presidential race. Biden has maintained a narrow lead and just about every poll and North Carolina in the last month. But the news is even worse for the incumbent Republican US Senator WHO's trying to hold onto his seat in North Carolina that's Republican Senator Thom Tillis. He's been consistently down in the polls recently by a larger margin than Joni Ernst has been in Iowa even in polls taken after Tillis Democratic opponent admitted sending. An toward text messages to a woman who was not his wife Tom Appears to be losing to cal Cunningham, if anything by an even greater margin now. So that's the situation in North Carolina where early voting starts tomorrow. In case you're wondering why both president trump and Senator Harris are going to be there tomorrow. We got twenty days to go twenty days. Cheese twenty days to go more to come tonight. Stay with. US. As. I discussed earlier this evening with vice presidential nominee Comma Harris tomorrow night was.

Democratic vice presidential nominee, Senator Comma Harris speaking with me just moments ago I want to bring in now my pal and the host of all in right here on this network weeknights at eight o'clock. Chris Hayes I am blessed to have both very good colleagues and very good friends. Chris. Thank you for sticking around Tonight Migrate Putterer. Let me just ask you I I, I, feel like the. Is. Going to stick out for a lot of people that she confirmed that she saw the flag that was on the vice president's had But aside, let's just leave that where it is. That's told its own story besides that what what else stuck out to you from this interview and from where Komala Harris's out right now you know two things one I think the most striking thing was her answers your question about which is the question I think we all have and I've been asking on my show every night about the Coney Barrett hearings right? There's just some this feeling of. Impotence, right this frustration of like. They're they're doing it. They have the votes. This is happening. Probably going to be very bad for a lot of. Democrats believe in and Progressives and liberals, and you know Joe Biden has been hounded with this question about whether he would consider expanding the court I thought she gave a kind of interesting and fairly deft answer that seemed to kind of. conjurer lean towards that without ever saying it about the power that the Senate has and the sort of importance of building a Senate majority because it is true that all the talk about court expansion court balancing or what will come. On the other side of the bridge. Requires Joe Binding to win and the Democrats to take the Senate and also to. Take the house and have all three houses before you even get to that question I thought her answer to that. It seemed to me that that was essentially what she was saying I thought she did pretty deft way compared to this sort of weird game. We've been playing a you know with the campaign reports and Biden. I agree and I feel like you know that everybody keeps asking Biden and Harris the same question in the right is having all this like concern trolling over like whether or not they're going to violate norms like right? Well, they were the other option is Donald Trump but. Is there I mean. Is. This one of those situations though where we should be looking for what they do rather than just what they say I mean are there things that a presidential campaign? a presidential contender and vice presidential contender Candu to prioritize the down ballots Senate races that are going to make it possible for them to govern if they actually get control. I thought that that pivot that she made to is also really important. But what should we be looking for from Biden Harris for them to put their money where their mouth is and trying to boost democratic Senate candidate well, there's two things one I think it is notable that they haven't just said no, we're not going to do it right so I mean the having said, no, we're not GONNA do it which itself is a statement, and that's part of the reason that we're playing this ring around the Rosie. The second thing to me is when you talk about down ballot candidates, one of the things back during the primary, there's a lot of discussions about electability and Those. Got Pretty gauzy about people's ability to sort of project out to the future and project the mind the median voter. But I remember the one argument that most landed for me about Biden electability was that I had several conversations with members of Congress in swing districts who are like absolutely I want him at the top of the ticket. It's not really close for me like I. Believe me I, know, my district I am telling you that's a person I wanted the top of the ticket and thus far that theory of the case. Appears to be bearing out right I. mean he really does seem the case that his favorability numbers have gone up over the course of the campaign, which is remarkable. The trump campaign keeps trying to find new ways to sort of. Create some monstrous socialist version of him or to run against Comma Harris herself and so in that, I, mean look I think the objective for Democrats is two steps build power and then use power and you build power in this case by winning as many elections as you can, and then you figure out what to do with that power when you're. In. Office. Yeah and I think that's I. think that's exactly right and I think that. My take away from this interview. This is the first chance I've had to speak with Senator Harrison. She's the nominee. Is that. It sort of puts the focus for me on the fact that there isn't a Senate race or I think a congressional race anywhere in the country. That has been hurt by the Democrats choosing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as their ticket there they literally have been value added in every single state in every single district where a Democrat is running on the ticket and they know it, and that's why they're talking about how they're going to govern. That's why they're talking about the rest of the ticket. That's why they're talking about getting the early vote locked in. A position of strength but we still got many days ahead. Chris Hayes. Thank you for working late tonight I really great my pleasure. Thank you time. All right. We got more ahead here. Tonight, stay with us. Iowa.

"A rally. I don't think I'm contagious at all. The Centers for Disease Prevention and Disease Control and Prevention's guidelines say an infected person is deemed contagious for at least 10 days after the onset of symptoms. That means the clock on Trump is still running. Schroedinger this week, Miami's Republican mayor said he didn't want Trump in his city if he was still testing positive for the virus in a video that he tweeted out last night. Trump called his covert 19 infection, a blessing from God and falsely called the experimental antibody cocktail. He was given a cure. And he promised to get that drug in the hospitals and make it free for all and a long phone call this morning on Fox Trump called Democratic vice presidential nominee Comma Harris unlikable, a monster and a communist after watching last night's debate between Harris and vice president Mike Pence. Pence and Harris faced off in a debate at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, It was much calmer and respectful than the presidential debate. But it still left plenty of room for the Democrat and the Republican to show off their differences. Whether we'll change any minds in this polarized election season remains to be seen. Christopher Martinez has the story. The first and only vice presidential debate marked a dramatic contrast with last week's chaotic presidential debate. This time, the candidates were more civil more respectful of rules making for an event so calm it would not disturb a fly. But later for that the thought like city debate gave the candidates a chance to repeat their favor. Talking points on the Democratic side, California Senator Kamala Harris, the American people have witnessed what is the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country. She went straight for perhaps the weakest point of the Trump administration, its response to the cove at 19 pandemic. Frankly, this administration has forfeited Thank you say, or write to re election based on this and on the Republican side. Incumbent Vice President Mike Pence, He used a favored Republican argument that the Democrats are ideological extremists. More taxes, more regulation banning fracking abolishing fossil fuel crushing American energy and economic surrendered. China is a prescription for economic decline. President Trump and I will keep America growing. Both candidates stuck. Two favorite campaign arguments with little new to speak of Of course, the debate was not without novelty, featuring as it did the first woman of color in a vice presidential debate and the first time the candidates were separated by a plexiglass barrier to prevent infection by the Corona virus that has spread to the White House. Be that as it may, there were plenty of ideological differences buzzing about the room, for example on healthcare. Pence talked about abortion and issue that could come up for Supreme Court review. Joe Biden and Camel Harris support taxpayer funding of abortion all the way up to the moment of birth, late term abortion. They want to increase funding to Planned Parenthood of America. For our part, I I would never presume how judging me Cockney. Barrett would rule on the Supreme Court of the United States but will continue to stand strong for the right to live. Harris talked about preserving and expanding the affordable care act or Obama care, adding a public option and lowering the age limit for Medicare down to 60 years. The candidates also clashed over police reform. Pence dismissed the idea of systematic racism or implicit bias in policing while Harris did not look and I'm a former career prosecutor, I know what I'm talking about. Bad cops are bad or good cops. We need reform of our policing in America and our criminal justice system, which is why Joe and I will immediately banned choke holds and karate holes. George George Ford would be alive today if we did that. We will require a national registry. For police officers who break the law. We will on the issue of criminal justice reform. Get rid of private prisons and cash bail and we will decriminalize marijuana. Perhaps the biggest news was not with the candidate said, but what they avoided talking about Hence, like Trump dodged a question about accepting the outcome of the election vote and a peaceable transfer of power thing. He expects the Trump Pence ticket will win when you talk about accepting the outcome of the election. I must tell you Senator Your party has spent the last 3.5 years trying to overturn the results of the last election. It's amazing. For Harris. The big question she avoided was about packing the Supreme Court At the first presidential debate. Biden refused to say whether he would add judges to the Supreme Court if Republicans approved trumps nominee Harris followed suit, focusing her answer on a different issue. She described trumps federal court appointees as ideological and incompetent. And do you know that of the 50 people? Cool. President Trump appointed to the Court of Appeals for Lifetime appointments. Not one is black. This is what they've been doing. You want to talk about packing a court? Let's have that discussion. On the whole. The candidates probably did not change many minds, but they also probably pleased their supporters and their respective running mates. During the debate, President Trump Tweeted Mike Pence is doing great. She she's a Gaff machine. Democrat Joe Biden tweeted. Oh, right. I was going to talk about that fly, so there was a big black fly that quite visibly landed on the vice president's head. And stayed there for two minutes, sparking hilarity on Twitter. So that would explain Biden Street, which featured a picture of him holding a fly swatter and so ends the vice presidential debate. 2020. "California Senator Kamala Harris is the country's first black woman to be on a major party ticket for the White House. While Harris is only a first term senator. She has a long track record in politics as a prosecutor and attorney General Kyle Conduct is managing editor of Saboteurs Crystal Ball, and he told us why she's the best choice for Biden. We think of the Democrats have a strong based on the West Coast, but I believe Harris is the 1st 1st from a Western State of Democratic ticket. Maybe, ever at least in a very long time. That's also kind of interesting, But Harris was always seen as I think a very strong favorite to be the vice presidential nominee. In some ways, it reminds me a little bit of Tim Kaine being selected four years ago that Cain was also kind of obvious choice after being probably the runner up to be Obama's running mate in 2008 so No. For all the twists and turns in his BP search. This is a very unsurprising choice. Paris has accomplished a lot in her career. Kyle. What strength does she bring to the ticket? Uh, look, I think just like Joe Biden himself Comma. Harris is basically a kind of a mainstream Democrats. Even though she's probably more liberal than by is I don't think she's naturally associate it with kind of the further left wing of the party. Kind of where Bernie Sanders, it was Orin are ideologically. So in that sense, I think she probably is a good fit for whereby these politically probably would be a credible of governing partner for Biden is he got elected. From from electoral standpoint. Also, there's some evidence that potentially having a black running mate could actually help. Biden was black turnout and many of the key states that this election has significant blocs of black voters. Now, obviously, we haven't had a major party black running mate before. So this is all kind of hypothetical but based on research in other races, and I think Barack Obama's two elections itself to 1020 12 But he also generated great black turnout that maybe an electoral calculations for the campaign as well. In addition to terrorists being a governing partner, so President Trump didn't waste much time going after Kamala Harris. He took her to CA task for Ah, questioning Brett Kavanaugh during his Supreme Court nomination hearings. How do you think Republicans will try targeting Harris? Or will they Yeah, I think they will target Harris. In some ways. I think they've argument that Biden is effectively kind of a Trojan or for the more left wing parts of Democratic Party. And I do think they'll try to use some of terraces positions against by the arguments to left wing Also, you know Harris was the state attorney general out California. Francisco de Ay before that, And there are certain aspects of her record that potentially Republicans could use to attack bite and as being kind of a bull, soft on crime and also hard on crime, So they're trying to do sort of a two tiered attack on that. So that's enough this other part of it, you know, when you're kind of a law enforcement official the way that a prosecutor is attorney general There's always gonna be difficult things you've handled. There's some of that from Paris's background. Well, how significant is this choice just based on historical value alone. There's some history making qualities for it in that if the bite Harris ticket got elected Harris to be the first woman running mate, also the first person of color to serve as a vice president. There is, of course, that then you don't look also. I mean, I kind of wonder if Harris may have to deal with some attacks because she is a person of color because she is a woman that may be a white male candidate would have to deal with, And there's actually some good reporting in the Washington Post over the weekend about how the bide campaigns sort of specifically getting ready for those lines of attack, and, you know, look, Joe Biden is older candidate. We know that running mates will often have a chance to run for president their own right. Possible. If I got elected, he would not maybe run for re election. And so you know, Harris could be a future Democratic presidential nominee four years from now, Really, That's Kyle conduct of saboteurs. Crystal Ball. 9 14 Court hearing is canceled, but the federal case against Montgomery County's health officer for ordering private schools closed is still pending. Timothy Maloney is theater knee for the private schools and families suing the county over this, and they're happy. Dr Travis Scales were scented his order to close private schools. But Maloney says the families want to see how Gail's treats religious and private schools going forward. And that's why the case is still pending. "Bryan, Curtis and David shoemaker of the ringer here with your insta- reactions to night, two of the democratic debates, which ended just moments ago David there is no place. We can start other than the moment of the night, Senator Kamala Harris, California confronts. The former vice president, Joe Biden on his record on race. Let's listen to Harris. I do not believe you are racist. And I agree with you. When you commit yourself to the importance of finding common ground, but I also believe, and it is personal. I was actually very it was hurtful. To hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country. And it was not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose busing, and there was a little girl in California, who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bused to school every day. And that little girl was me talk about whether it was, so powerful David. Kamala Harris to did a really effective job, all night of putting emotion into her points. Yeah. Almost everything she said there. You could hear the pain in her voice, gin just put emotion into it. She put herself into the point. And you know, it was it was not only an effective point-scoring debate moment evening, but it was an intensely personal one didn't you think so? Yeah, I thought she had a standout night. You know, we'll go candidate by candidate in a little bit. But I think it'd be hard to, to put anybody ahead of her as far as having when the night and I think that, you know, that there are substantive issues where some were a candidate in her record that she will have to address, and she really didn't tonight. I thought the she she was incredibly effective speaker, incredibly effective advocate for herself and for her platform. And because of the format or because of the kind of her unexpected emergence one on stage was even remotely equipped to kinda back at her. Yeah. But, you know, I think even before we get to that it's no one seemed to be really ready to clapback Joe Biden. Yeah. Who we've talked about it has has had two weeks of moments. Whether it's on the Hyde amendment, whether it's on these comments, he made about segregationist democratic senators that nobody now maybe Harris took it off the table, but there was not a not a line to get to Biden on that issue, which was kinda surprising to me we I think we win this bay thinking Joe Biden is the front runner, people are going to take shots and he has drawn up the game plan over the last week or two in terms of how they're supposed to do it. Sure. But she was the one who stepped up and did it's night. And of course, was the most effective. I think I think you're right that she took it off the table. I also think that there is no. I mean there are. People on stage who were introducing themselves to the country, and we talked about that, you know, we running for president. So, so I think that they're more interested in their own presentation than anything with Joe Biden, and I also think, for some there's probably a political calculation that Joe Biden was was doing himself in. He was doing more damage to his own campaign than they could do by, like, staring at a man who is still immensely, popular. Right. And just get out of the way just gather way and let them just, you know, eat he cut himself off two or three times tonight. I mean it's just his his presentation was, I mean, his, his, his, his his entire night was just kind of mind. So Harris hits Biden, on his comments about segregation, Senator. She makes the busing point intensely personal and let that clip role to see how Biden responded. Mischaracterized position across the board. I did not praise racist that is not true. Number one. Number two, if we want to have this campaign litigated, who support civil rights, whether I did or not, I'm happy to do that. I was a public defender. I didn't become a prosecutor..

"Deal. Thanks for spending time with this. Whatever your views of billionaire politicos Howard Schultz in Michael Bloomberg. They are correct about a viral political issue. There is no chance of a single payer Medicare for all plan happening anytime soon maybe ever. So says Rick Newman senior columnist at Yahoo finance the issue is heating up because California Democratic Senator Kamala Harris now eight leading presidential contender has fully embraced a single payer healthcare system that would completely replace all private coverage. Rick, how do you see it? You're never going to happen for a couple of reasons. You know, the first one is just the it is. Expensive and would require massive increases in federal taxation. True. But, but, but there would be a lot of people would be spending less money. So suddenly, you don't have to pay anything for healthcare, for example in that's true. But I did transition getting from what we have now to Medicare for all is be massively disruptive. That's just impossible to imagine it happening in our political system. And I watched Senator Kamala Harrison, California, I guess champion the subject, but she didn't seem to have very many specifics as to why it would be so great. But part of me says that it's an easy message to absorb until until you dig deeper than you realize. Well, there are some things that would make you question this. That's right. So you say to people, hey, do you want something for free, you know, more likely than not to say? Yeah. Some. For free. That's gonna cost all these other things that you're going to have to give up they say, oh, wait a minute. I don't I don't think I want that so much. So I assuming she remains reliable president candidate. I think he's going to have to address that she's refined. Her message on this. And you know, we also have people most prominently Howard Schultz now the former Starbucks now he's going to get into the race. There's no this would bankrupt the country. There's no way we can't afford it. You can even call it unamerican. So you have prominent people who are pointing out the problems with Medicare for all. So that'd be the people who are backing medic- Medicare for all are gonna have to do a better job of defending it. If you compare that to twenty fifteen Bernie Sanders, really never was you know, he never was a front runner in two thousand sixteen kinda got away with talking about Medicare for all without explaining the details. But I don't think the candidates are going to get away with it in twenty twenty you mentioned on. Mentionable consequences like what? Well, they could change the healthcare system in profound ways in one of the things you would almost certainly be necessary doctors, and nurses, all caregivers what have to get paid west. So the government's gonna putting the Bill at this point, which means taxpayers are footing the Bill, so they are going to slash what doctors nurses, get paid. And you know, patients might think well that doesn't affect me. I don't really care that much. I mean, a lot of doctors, and nurses are going to say, well, I'm getting out of this business. I'm going to get into something else. Or you're going to have people who might have become doctors and nurses, saying it's not worth it. Any more? Count or something else. We're speaking with Rick Newman senior columnist at Yahoo finance. He's written a piece entitled Medicare for all is not going to happen. How complicated is the healthcare system. Based on the fact that employers in many cases, pay for part of an employee's insurance. Well, provided healthcare system actually works part of the system it actually works reasonably well and part of the reading it works. Well, there's that employers have an incentive to get costs down. I mean, they're the ones that you know, essentially putting Bill. Employers are footing the Bill, but you know, employers have an incentive to get costs down in many cases, they have the leverage to do that. So that is probably one of the better parts of the healthcare system. So in a way, you don't want to break apart. It's actually working the part. That's not working is is essentially the people who don't get employer provided coverage. Thanks, rick. Yahoo. Finance columnist. Rick Newman, who's based in New York..
