"I'm Ryan Gorman from I already l filling in for the team here on MLK Day, and I'm joined now by Rob Weinhold Crisis leadership expert and author of The art of crisis leadership to talk about the president being removed from various social media platforms. Rob Thank you so much for taking a few minutes to talk to us about this and let's start with just The enormity of this decision by the social media companies to in some instances permanently ban the current president of the United States. Yeah, it is an extraordinary step. A very high profile step. And you know if you would have predicted that the president of the United States would have been banned from Twitter, you know, just several years ago. People would say there's no way in the world that would happen, but I think it does cause a very real reaction. Among many people, particularly in the conservative ranks with the perception is that social media platforms are attempting to silence their voice, even though the platforms insists they're eliminating content that is outside of their guidelines and planet story or criminal in nature. Think more broadly, you know, while social media companies, private companies and certainly have the right to police their channels I also believe they're under intense scrutiny and struggling with consumer trust, and Lastly, I tell you, I think that they be wise to consider aggressively messaging about the policies of protocol, So the concept of the leading content or spending accounts of beauty is fair and equitable. Versus what some would say is arbitrary based on their specific thoughts about people. Topics are issues. I'm joined by Rob Weinhold, Crisis leadership expert and author of the Art of Crisis Leadership. You have a number of individuals in Washington, D. C. Not just the president, who have been under fire recently. For the things that they said and did leading up to the events of January. 6th. You have Senator Ted Cruz Senator Josh Holly getting a lot of pushback even from within their own party as a crisis leadership expert when you have a client who's in the middle of a storm like that. But some of the advice that you offer up well first off. I think it's very important to communicate and articulate your position effectively and kind of going back to the whole concept of being banned. I'm this serves as a very interesting case study. In that leaders, you know, we work with large public companies all the way down the small restaurant tours and individuals. They must really evaluate their earned owned, paid and shared communications, late, diversified platforms in which they Message. They're micro communities and so much like a supply chain in a product based business supply line of communications channels interrupted with no redundancy. There's certainly a gap in messaging cadence, and I tell you I've seen businesses go out of business because there were two of the lion. On one platform, But I would say from a strategic standpoint, whether you're talking about the Republican Party, I certainly don't pretend to be a political strategist. But I do operate tremendous man in the corporate space. You seem to me that there's a fracture among the ranks in terms of impeachment approach or not, and many varying opinions on what the party stands for, potentially both now and in the future and in a real power struggle. And so that said, Like any big Brad I think there needs to be an intentional process where the party or the company, so to speak, unifies, they reinvent themselves. They embrace a common idea where identity and then clearly communicate what organization of party represents. Two In this case, the American people moving forward. People ultimately have a choice to align or vote with their feet, meaning move in another direction. So again, this isn't a political statement. Rather a point of view as marketplace's trust is the ultimate barometer for many organizations..

And then seven days from now, a week from now, President elect Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46, president of the United States. So what happening But in leading up to impeachment, obviously what sparked? This was the insurrection. We saw that President Trump Help that rally in Washington, D C, telling the attendees of his rally to go up to the capital to voice their displeasure with the election results, and many interpreted his remarks as incitement, and it would appear that he did in sight this group of rioters to go to the capital now, Obviously, there were thousands of people to attend President Trump's rally, which was to essentially protest the electoral college results. And then we saw that you know some of the People. Large number of them did stormed the capital when they stormed the capital. It was during the certification of the electoral college vote had senators Josh Holly and some there's had crews essentially proposing challenge the electoral college results in states like Pennsylvania. So we saw that there was essentially ally going around that there was this white Red voter fraud in the 2020 election. So during the certification process, the protestors stormed the capital, putting the lives of the vice president of the United States at risk of the speaker of the House of Thine eyes. Take that risk as well as lawmakers in the chamber at that moment, so we obviously know that five people were killed as a result of these riots, so it was a very deadly insurrection. Now we've heard obviously a lot of these. Writers have been charged. They have been apprehended by law enforcement. But today was President Trump's term in the spotlight, and he was impeached for the second time. It wasn't a surprise. We knew that Democrats would have the votes. But what's getting a lot of attention is the fact that Republicans voted to impeach him and including Congresswoman Liz Cheney, who is part of the GOP leadership in the House. Yeah, I mean, it's

So the day after the election, Missouri Senator Josh Holly, a rising star of conservative populism, declared Republicans in Washington are going to have a very hard time processing this, but the future is clear. We must be a working class party, not a Wall Street party. Holly is right. But continuing to embrace Trumpism goes against the goal, says Bloomberg Opinion columnist Michael Strain, director of economic policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute. And the author of The American Dream is not Dead. But Populism could kill it. And he's here to tell us why. Pills have Republican senators Josh Holly and Marco Rubio are sort of interpreting the election results. Well, I think that there is, I think that they are taking away from Theo the surprising strength of of the president, uh, on the other Republican party generally. As evidence that that the president economic policy were successful, and, um, that they should, you know, kind of rebrand the Republican Party as the party of workers on day. That's a sentiment that both Senator Holly and Senator Rubio expressed that they after the election that the election results Pointed the way to the future and in the future is with the Republican Party is a zoo party of walkers. President Trump often spouted populist theories and pro worker rhetoric. But did he follow through on any of that? Was there anything to back that up? In my view, the president actual accomplishment for the working class are in and really the president. The president's effort don't even seem to have been its focus wasn't really on work that rhetorically itwas You know, I think the major legislative accomplishments of the trump years was the 2017 tax cuts. I'm of the view that that is gonna increase Workerswages. I bet indirectly on the left. You take it well. The problem is that the effects of that tax hasn't been really held back by the trade war. With China and trade hostilities with other nations, and that conflict in the room of international trade has held back investment by businesses which has reduced that spending put downward pressure on productivity. Put downward pressure on workers. Ladies, the president really undone. Good that he tried to do with the corporate tax cut with his trade wars. Even if you look at manufacturing specifically, you know, it's common to hear people argue, you know? Yes, the trade war You know a little bit bad for the economy overall, but it'll do a lot of good for being factory workers. The evidence suggests that Manufacturing employment actually was reduced by the trade war. So even even manufacturing workers haven't benefited from both. And then when you add on the failures that Advanced healthcare security for workers and failure to reduce drug crisis for workers. You know you really You really don't see much that the president or his supporters can point to, in terms of a changeable things they've done to help workers. Senator Hawley and Senator Rubio and many other senators are obviously looking to try to solidify Trump's base behind them. But does it seem as if it's not so much a base because of populist theories, but more because of Personality. They're following Trump because of his personality. Well, I think they have. I think they have an opportunity to actually put some meat on the bones. Here s O if they if they want to turn their whole party into a pro worker party, I think that would be That would be great. And then the Rubio you know, particularly several years ago, had some really good ideas to help workers if they were to move in that direction. I think that would be a departure from From President Trump's policies. It wouldn't be a continuation of the policy on that, I think is is the tree distinction? Secondly, what you bring up is really important. You know what? What will Republican politicians take away from? President success, you know? Well, well, they try toe to mimic his aesthetic. Will they try to, you know, kind of mimic the rhetoric. You know, my hope, of course, is that is that that isn't what we're in for from from the Republican Party. I hope that they try to come up with some Creative solutions to address today's problems and try and implement them again. Recognizing that that wouldn't be a continuation of President Trump's four years, it will be a departure from it. Michael, Thanks so much. That's Bloomberg opinion columnist Michael Strain, director of economic policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute. "That's right. The big news today is that Senator Josh Holly and pledged to challenge Joe Biden's victory in Pennsylvania and maybe other states on January, the sixth when Congress is set to certify the results of the 2020. Election. This is going to be big. Not only are we going to see on Wednesday a lot of protests around the country, a lot of rallies of support for President Trump probably a fair share going against him as well. The president himself says that that the showing of support in Washington D. C will be something You see, Now we know something interesting will happen. On January the sixth, there will be a contest to the election results led by Senator Josh Holly in the Senate, Mo Brooks and other congressional Republicans in the House of Representatives. This is This is a pretty big deal. He guaranteed that both chambers will now be forced to at least debate the results of Pennsylvania's election. Maybe other states whether or not to accept Bynes victory, And this is important because if this had just been an issue raised by the House of Representatives, it probably wouldn't have gotten a lot of play. But now that both chambers are into this into the fight, want to see the debate. That looks like what will be on the schedule on January. 6 now a guy who never Gives up the fight is the author of a new piece out right now in the Spectator, the American Spectator. The title of it caught my attention and said the president should stay the course. So this is an answer to the New York Post. Headlines on the cover of their newspapers few days ago that President Trump should give it up that he's ruining things in Georgia and that he should just exit stage right and that he should. Always kind of quietly. Well, our friend Jeffrey Lord, who you know from CNN. He is a prolific writer. He worked in the Reagan White House. He decided no President Trump meets to fight back and he wrote a piece about it Right now. He joins us on America first. Jeffrey Lord, follow him at real Jeffrey, Lord. And, of course, always the Jeffrey Lord Calm is a place for all of his articles. Welcome to America, First of Happy New Year. Well, happy New Year to you, Jen. And thanks for having me and thanks seven. Giving my best wishes I will. Absolutely. And you know what? At some point when I make it to the East Coast we will all make. We'll all get together. How about that when we can actually see each other in person? I think that is a great idea. Virtual only goes so far. Exactly. I know I'm done with zoom calls, which, by the way, is apparently one of the most popular new words of the year. Zoom. We'll talk about that later in the program, But Jeffrey Lord, I was so just heartened to see the New York Post, which seems to be one of the few Sources of reason in the news media coming out and saying it urging President Trump Tonto back down. And for multiple reasons, but because there are some real issues of voter fraud, it is the president's job to not just fight for his political longevity. But to fight for the American people in the 70 million Plus Americans who are questioning the results of this election and for the New York Post to come out and join the other media outlets and just Sort of. I don't know, brushing all of that under the rug. It made me I didn't love it. I felt like gosh, we're really losing the fight here. But then I was looking around on social media and I saw your piece. The president should stay the course. And it's available right now. Spectator dot orc and it was written by you. Were you feeling the same way I was. Is that why you wrote this piece? Yes, exactly. Yeah, I could tell you just is a a personal aside. I'm out here on Eastern Long Island for the holidays. Mark. So this is where I come for Christmas every year, So that means when I show up at the breakfast table, the New York Post is physically on the table. I love that I still love to read the physical newspaper, too. Yes, I saw it. And I thought to myself. Oh, my God. You know, I just I could not believe it. So I read it And I thought, Well, this deserves an answer which I promptly sat down and Good virtual style and sent into the spectator. But I just think You know a couple of things number one just in general. This is one of the reasons why Donald Trump is where he is because he fights and other Republicans do not. That's right. Better problem for the Republican Party for Ages and ages and ages and I'm so glad to see him do it. But secondly There are millions of Americans who really believe I'm one of them that this election was stolen from Donald Trump and Pennsylvania is mentioned here. I'm from Pennsylvania. I came up through the Pennsylvania political system on the Republican side. I can tell you I have never seen the response to a candidate. But I saw two Donald Trump when I went to these rallies in Pennsylvania, and I went to three of them right before the election. "Chinese people are big fans buy loads of team paraphernalia turn into the games in large numbers of China is a communist country with an iron fisted regime, the regime that punishes any who criticized them. The N B. A is well aware of this, and they've been reluctant to allow any negative messages regarding China or human rights abuses, including the latest in Hong Kong. Missouri Senator Josh Holly wants the N B A has stopped covering for China. He criticized the league for allowing social justice messages on its jersey but not messages that are critical of China in any form. This led the ESPN high profile N BA reporter Adrian Motion Eroski to send Holly a two word response. The first word beginning with the letter at that's right, the F bomb. Woes was suspended by ESPN for that response. Shortly thereafter, I had Senator Holly on the Hughhewitt show, You launched a firestorm. I want to give a little background for our audience when you tweeted. Quote. How much money does ESPN Disney ABC network make from the N B, A. And China? Just asking In response, the Page six golf gossip columnist of the N ba a guy named Adrian. Well, general ski If people don't know what he goes by woes sent you an email that was F u He later apologized after the blow back Now he's been suspended. So I want to kind of walk through the issues and on this, Let's begin with the cancel culture of suspending. Won't you tweeted yesterday? ESPN. Don't suspend a reporter Ask tough questions of the N B. A about their pro China anti American bias start Reporting, for goodness sake. Are you willing to go one step further senator and call for ESPN to immediately reinstate woes? Here's the deal. ESPN is trying to distract from the fact that they will not stand up to the MBA and asked the tough questions at the MBA is worth over a $1,000,000,000 in China. MBA China is that's why you last fall. When Hong Kong was in the throes of a protest because of the authoritarian crackdown, the MBA would say nothing. And you might remember that the Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey when he re tweeted, he didn't say it himself. He's retweeted. One little line that said, Stand with Hong Kong. A free Hong Kong and oh, my goodness, The sky was falling. He got censored. The big league came down hard on him. And so I just asked in my letter that I sent sister. Listen, if the NBA is going to put these Social justice statements on the back of uniforms, which is what they're doing now, why is it that there's nothing on there about like free Hong Kong or leaguers or anything that has to do with the billions of dollars the MBA makes in China? And you see the response from the reporter? And now? Yes, again, and they all you know. Well, the reporter will we'll take care of that will silence him, but they don't want to address The core issue, which is the NBA's relationship with China. ESPN has a slice of that pie. That's what we ought to be talking about here. The problem is also bigger than ESPN. Lots of stories were written about woes cursing you out. But ESPN even put out a statement saying What he did was completely unacceptable. We get all that what do you think it says about the media? Belka, Khun Down, Defend cover a reporter who swears but not a brutal regime that as the weaker is living in internment camps. Well, it tells you I think it's just where we are with way too many of our multinational corporations. So let's just take the N B A and the F D A has a deal with the Chinese Social media platform 10 cent that all alone huge, Just 10 cent platform deal is worth 1.5 $1,000,000. As with a B with the MBA, they signed it last November. The NBA now has more social media followers in China than they do the United States, so I get it. It's a big market. I understand that I understand that, but That doesn't mean that Beijing ought to be able to call the tune for the N B, A and all of US players and coaches and for that matter for Americans, and that's what's happening. Beijing is saying, Listen, if you want access to our markets. Well, you're going to say what we want you to say. And that means no criticism of us at all zero. We want to crack down on the Uighurs. We want to put people in concentration camps. We want to steamroll long calm. You will remain silent. You will go along with us. I frankly think it's anti American. The MBA needs to stand up and say We're not gonna be silenced and you're not gonna be able to buy us off. Do you believe the N B? A. He needs to disclose publicly detail on the financial deal dealings with China. I mean, it's been reported they could lose 400 million. You just said the 1,000,000,000 1/2. I'd like to see an accounting of everything details. Do you think they should put that out? Absolutely absolutely. What we know now is peace together from public reports, and I salute the news organizations, not ESPN who have been doing this public reporting, But we know that the MBA doesn't work 10 billion in revenue. We know at least 10 to 20% of that is done in China. Every year. I would say we know that some of their deals be social with China. Social media platforms are worth alone over a 1,000,000,000. But let's see it all and you know, we should also see what particular teams slices that they're getting. Players have said some of them but their names to it, so they sit on background reporters that they make Maurin endorsement deals in China. Then they make from their US salary. So this is big time money for the and I think we do deserve to know exactly what they're making, and we deserved to have them explain to us. Why they won't stand up to this authoritarians regime. But what you was talking about basic American principles should be controversial. This is the stuff that we all agree on us. Americans free speech, freedom of worship. I mean, it's not. It's not a hard question to answer. Do you think That the Chinese government ought to be putting people in it in concentration camps that Sydney question. A little over a week ago letter appeared.

Unemployed still waiting for checks as states struggle to pay out stimulus funds
"The end of week three. I think check me on that of the greater parts of this economy being shut down as we saw the unemployment claims numbers. The damage is mounting. Even as political talk turns to reopening this economy so here for five maybe five and a half. I don't know we'll see minutes of live radio to look back and examine our headlong from the Washington Post also debris from politico. Hayatou kyw heather. Let me start with you And the Federal Reserve Chair Powell. I guess yesterday with that Big Move On getting more money this money into this economy two point three trillion dollars He is done kidding around the oppression I get. He has come out firing every bazooka. He's got really quickly and the stock market loves it. People keep asking. Why did the stock market rally ten percent this week? Even we have seventeen million people out of work and a big part of that is the Federal Reserve is keeps putting out massive amounts of money to backstop pretty much every part of of the market. What's new this week is for the first time. Ever the Fed announced it is actually going to make direct loans to companies and two states and municipalities. So that's never happened before and it tells you how cash-strapped and desperate for cash so many parts of the economy are all right so we're GONNA get to the disconnect between the markets and the real economy which pal talks about a lot in in his address in his remarks. Yesterday was the real economy but seeped. Sudip talked to me for a second about the congress of the United States representatives of the people and where they are in this whole crisis are mostly playing along. This is kind of Remarkable to see we've we a decade ago and since then I've had some pretty brutal discussions about the philosophy of government intervening in the economy and today most of the discussions are about tactics. There about how do you have the government intervening the economy? Not whether the government should intervene. And so you have Republican lawmakers who are trying to one up each other In in coming up with ways to inject more money into the economy Senator Josh Holly. From Missouri is is proposing that we just have the government pay. Everybody just like pour money in and pay everyone. Don't even worry about trying to route it through businesses which actually is probably a cleaner way to do it just have the government do total takeover of the economy for X. number of months the big problem is nobody knows what that excess right good point and it's the only thing was really really interesting but heather. I do wonder whether Congress appreciates the velocity with which Things are happening while they're certainly trying to make things happen. But it's it's just not fast enough when you have this. Many PEOPLE SEVENTEEN MILLION UNEMPLOYED. Who are trying to get these unemployment benefits A lot of people I talk to you know. They've called a hundred times a day to try to get through to an office to get this this aid in this relief and two or three weeks later they still haven't gotten their first check Same thing was small businesses. I talked to a small business center this week from Michigan and he called the small business administration to check up on where his lone and he was caller number. Sixteen thousand something and then have a phone and so I think the government and government terms that are acting at warp speed at light speed if he will but for the real economy we have never seen a deterioration this quick and like less than a month and it just the money is not getting out fast enough so deep as I said political talk is starting to turn to turn to actually now for a week or two. The idea of reopening this government Do you think it's possible to get things going again? in stages as summer talking about. Yeah it is possible for for us to do what is called reopening the economy but what that actually means is going to be really different reality than just seeing that it's happening is going to obviously happens slowly and deliberately most of Montana and Wyoming GonNa come back a lot faster than most of New York and California. But what does it look like when you have restaurants being ordered that they have to have every other table empty? Maybe every everyday every restaurant will have half of their seats. A third of their seats They can actually fill. That's going to continue throughout the summer. And maybe into the fall and so when we when we We talk about reopening the economy. There's a false sense that maybe it's like flipping switch and it's not. It's like slowly releasing a valve and letting people come back in With masks on wearing gloves like you've never seen before and it will look like a very different system and it's not going to inspire confidence in most people To to have that slow process. But it's certainly better than where we are right now with everything shut down for the foreseeable next week's stores to be done about definitions of terms and what that means Heather long really quickly and by really quickly. I mean like thirty seconds The markets are looking at the economy. And saying I don't really care. The feds give me is two trillion dollars. There's a disconnect here between Wall Street and the Real Economy Right. There definitely is right now. The other thing is the markets looking about six months out. And it's starting to see some weird glimmer of hope in that ideas. Zombie economy that. We were just talking about that. What if it partially reopened? While at least they'll be some money flowing again but of course if you're a small business owner who may who might have fifty percent of tables filled and the rest of the restaurant empty. That's no consolation to
