"How to dress how to treat customers beyond time and that sort of thing. That is an enormous problem at some point and think about this look looking at many companies now are offering Hiring bonuses. Sure, I mean, quick trip is well, I will give you $500 to come in and interview And if you get the job, you get the 500 there. There are companies that are offering people like you everybody on this panel. If you could refer them, somebody that would actually hold down a job for whatever it is six weeks, eight weeks. Whatever it is, I'll pay 100 talking about Milwaukee County. You know, they can't even get any lifeguards. Now. Now you're starting to see little communities like, well, A good example of Sussex is running an ad right now on Facebook. Looking for people to cut the grass. Sure, they're looking for people to cut the grass. You know a perfect opportunity for some for some kid during the during the summer months, but they can't find anything That's funny when I was when I was 16 years old. I played a lot of golf. I thought it would be great to work for the Milwaukee County Park system and a golf course and you had to go take a civil service exam, which by the way, If you can't pass a civil service exam, you are a tree stump of the highest orders. There's no question about it, but But Matt in those days and I, admittedly this is the stone ages. This was 1975. When I was just 74. Whatever year it was, but going there and sitting in a room. There were 70 80 people taking the civil service exam. And there was maybe on the golf course, is maybe 20 jobs to be had doing stuff like working behind the counter and cut the grass. It's e mean this is fundamental foundational. Being eroding. I think Yeah, well, I think Senator Howard Mark Klein, who's co chair of the Joint Finance Committee, said it best last week when they were talking about this $300 weekly bonus that is attached unemployment right now. You said business is used to Compete with other businesses and other states. Now they're competing with the couch and the government. Yeah, they brought out people who you know, have been in business for a long time, but may not because of this worker shortage, and there was a gentleman who Who owns a You know, a family owned business. Immigrants started it 100 years ago and then wrote a cheese factory and they have bumped up their opening wage to 14 to $16 an hour. They still can't hire anybody because The government is paying the individual on unemployment right now, $16.75. That's that's just untenable that that just does not work and it will not work for in the economy. I guess what Tony Evers and Joe Biden are counting on eventually is that will destroy the economy so much. You won't have to worry about a worker shortage because there will be businesses to offer any of these jobs or to be short workers anymore. They tried to destroy them, basically, during covert with their lockdowns and their strict penalties, and now they're doing it with government largess. I mean, it's it's insane. Yet Eventually America is going to catch up to this fact met quick around the table. You get to go first on this. This this big spending infrastructure package it started out of, you know, 2.25 trillion, the Biden administration because they're very reasonable are not get it down to 1.7 Trillion. The Republicans in the Senate are saying, you know, we could sign off on 600 billion. If it really goes for stuff like, you know, expanding broadband and bridges and airports and that sort of stuff in the end. Is that Bill get passed and at what level of spending doesn't get passed. It's going to get past because we're in an orgy of spending. The Republicans are starting to check themselves, obviously, but they went along with everybody wanted to skin me. That's what it was called, Of course, and so we're gonna see some something in the area of Half billion dollars plus for sure for infrastructure. Hopefully, infrastructure still means what it used to mean. You know, even a few years ago, as opposed to what the left is trying to be. Oh, right now, right now they're trying to claim that child care is is infrastructure, Ben. Same question. Is it going to be some sort of spending bill? Another one get passed, and at what level? Oh, I think we get another billion or they're sorry another trillion dollars or so thrown into the economy. I mean, there are plenty of big spending Republicans in Washington who are just as much a part of the problem as big spending Democrats. The question is Where does the money go? Listen, if you get past Oh, I'd say what $150. Most people are bad with money. Most people don't have any idea the difference between $1000.100,000 dollars and a million dollars and it just after you get out of that money that you hold in your hand, it just sort of all starts to roll together so And Kendall was right that you know, as long as in the Democrats, like the Democratic Party of Wisconsin is encouraging people to do their skinny shinny. There are a lot of people who wanted I forget where I got the term Zero accountability voters. They don't care, man. Just send him the government check. And you know when the next one comes up great, don't they Will they will sell this country down the road for $1400 every couple of months because Them. $1400 is real in a trillion is, um Yeah, Dave. Real quick just to meet us. Bill. What level stimulus and or infrastructure infrastructure. I'm sorry. Infrastructure? Yes, Around a trillion. You think so? Yeah. Agreed, because there's too many lobbyists and there's too many big spending Republicans out there too. So yeah, I go with the Tri. I think I think is gonna be a little bit less than that. I think that there's some sense of control from Democrats in the Senate who are vulnerable. The people like Christian Cinema. People like Joe Manchin may put the brakes on that. But still, I mean, you're talking about well in excess of a trillion dollars in the last stimulus that has been spent yet, and we're willing to go out and borrow from our great Grandchildren to spend. You know, another trillion, or some number fairly close to that. Tell you what, we'll take a break here. We're gonna try to do the lightning round in the third segment of this hour of Lefty America. Slouching towards misery, you stock 11 30 Wi San There used to be a day when the national news media prided itself on getting the story.

"They don't pass the budget through and Assembly committee and then a Senate committee. There's just one committee. It's a joint committee of the Assembly and the Senate. They passed the budget, and then it goes to each individual chamber. Usually it doesn't get changed much so With the Joint Finance Committee does he's usually the budget now that The governor is up another political party, Tony Evers, being a Democrat. He obviously can veto anything He doesn't like. That's in it. So the Legislature doesn't have the same authority with regard to the budget, as they did when Scott Walker was in, he changed things, too, but not as much. It's still by far the most powerful committee and legislature and it's the one that a lot of people who want to influence things in Madison want to be on Nygren has been the assembly chairman and remember, the chairman are always of the political party that have control of the chamber. So since the Republicans control the Assembly, they have the assembly chairman. The Republicans also control the Senate, and they have The Senate chairman. So Nygren is out, and I don't know who the Assembly Republicans. They're going to name to replace it. Was he going to be dumped by speaker Boss and that's why he? I don't know. I don't know. My goodness had issues in his personal life. His daughter, Cassie had a long standing and well publicized About with opioid addiction and is serving a long prison term after Problems. Somebody died with the drugs and so on. I don't I don't know what's going on. I got it represents the mirror that area right up on the U. P border, extreme northeastern Wisconsin, But he's leaving and he was a very influential member. Of the State Assembly. And as they say the resignations effective tomorrow, which Is unusually sudden and again. I don't have Any inside information is that what's going on? They're over on the state Senate side. Alberta Dialing has been removed as the Senate chairman of the Joint Finance Committee, this what is easier to explain it understand? The committee chairman are decided by the floor leader in each party. The Senate Republican leader was who Scott Fitzgerald he's been elected to Congress. So there's a new Senate Republican leader and there was a contest for that job. Who Republicans ran. For the position of being the leader who decides who the leader is the other Republican senators they vote. You can probably figure out how this works out. The people who agree to support you'll get rewarded if you win, right? And the ones who supported the other person. Well, they don't My guess is that Alberta supported the other person because Senator LeMay you of the Sheboygan area. He got elected the Senate Republican leader, and he's changing. The committee chairman and Albert is no longer the chairman of the Joint Finance Committee. State Senator Howard Mark Klein, who represents the bearable Wisconsin Dells area, has been named. The Senate chairman. There are several conservatives that he's putting on joined Finance committee including Dewey Strobel and a few others, but it means that the budget writing committee is no longer going to be The Alberta and migrant show is going to be instead. Controlled by Howard. Mark. Landon. Whomever Robin boss chooses to put on there. On the assembly side by the way on that state Senate of Leadership battle Roger Broth of the Appleton area grant. He's been the Senate president, which is actually the number two position in leadership. He ran for the majority leader position, and he lost a limb. A hero ad. After he lost that they got rid of the Senate president, too. And Chris Catholic. It got that job, so There's always sore feelings over this stuff. On the other hand, these factions usually develop log before the leadership fights go on in. Then all the sudden done. You lick your wounds and you move on and try to make the best of the situation. But obviously in the legislative body like this Powers everything and Committee chairman have the most power and the Joint Finance Committee is by far the most powerful committee. Now some people who don't Wanna work 90 billion hours awake during budget time. Don't wanna be enjoined finance. But those that really want to have influence do because it's such an important committee of the Legislature. Interesting story in The New York Times. Times Square, as you probably know, has been dead for months. It's not quite as dead as it was when New York was on total lockdown. People comment there these various APS on the Internet now where you could watch these live cameras. It The whole world has live cameras and some of them stream and some don't and New York City. I mean, they must get Cameron every corner and some of them are hooked into these networks. I forget what they're called Earth cameras, something or another. And so those videos people to watch what's going out of times Square. 24 7 by Look at anything on the Internet, you know, normally Times Square four o'clock in the morning at a Tuesday, it's packed and mobbed. That's 42nd of weeks for Broadway and 42nd and seventh all come together the big triangle up there and Y'all seen the sights on TV? That's where they have the drop the ball and It's right in the middle of the Broadway area and zillions of big time consumers stores and a trillion tourists and With Broadway closed almost no tourism going on in New York and the office building shut down for months. Has been virtually nobody there. And it's weird in The New York Times has a page one story on it. And the concern that some in New York have Is what with all the tourists, the tourist attractions are on the verge of going under. Imagine being Some of those big stores of the big restaurants that pay this massive rent, and there used to be a pact with all these tourists that come into the area that have been there's a giant Disney store. They're huge. They're on the verge of going under because there's no tourists. There's no foot traffic from the office people and the massive crowds. They go to all the Broadway theaters that almost all the Broadway theaters are within about a 15 black area all kind of set it around that area where there's been no Broadway shows for months. Unfortunately, a whole lot of raising taxes and growing government so disappointing but not surprising. So we're still going to forge ahead. We have two plans that we've been working on over the course of the past couple of weeks since we were sworn in one is make sure every single person with a pre existing condition has that protected, of course, that passed the assembly yesterday by a vote of seventy five to nineteen so broad bipartisan support. So hopefully, even though he indicated he was probably not gonna sign it. I cannot imagine he would not sign preexisting conditions production. And then the second thing we were doing is working on this middle income tax cuts. Now, I'm sure if it were up to me or you or a lot of our listeners, you would have across the board. Income tax cuts for every single person who pays taxes interstate but Tony ever said he wants to directed at the middle class. So we in a bipartisan way, we put together a plan that directs all of the tax relief to families earning under a hundred and fifty thousand dollars or under one hundred thousand dollars for an individual and instead of raising taxes to pay for it like he proposed. We actually are able to use almost six hundred million dollar GOP surplus. So I think there's a lot of ways that we can get together and get some things done that he cares about. So do we. But last night, it was all about it's my way or the highway either we raise taxes or we have no income tax cuts that either we do everything that I want and we don't do pre existing condition production. So hopefully, it was just the rhetoric of his staff, and it's not what he really believes. But I guess we'll only time will tell so a couple of takeaways that I that I notice as I watched the speech live one was the only time I think I saw all of the the members stand up was for the tax cut proposal. Now that was of course, before the details were out there that. That was that your recollection. There was a pretty broad enthusiastic support for that for that beginning of that paragraph of the speech one hundred percent, right because I think we are definitely committed on the Republican side to having them it'll income tax cut. We I fundamentally believe government has too much of our money that we need to put more in the pockets of people. That's what grows and expands our economy. So for the average median income family, you know, a couple living in Milwaukee or in Racine county wherever it is. It'd be about a three hundred dollar tax. So that's real money, and we can do it because Republicans for the past eight years to had a growing economy after making some tough choices. So there's no need for us to raise income or sales tax dollars. That is a nonstarter is not going to happen. So he keeps insisting on that. We're going to have a whole lot of argument. But not a lot of progress. Were you surprised that he didn't mention the state of the state's economy, which is frankly, pretty good? Yeah. I mean, that's another example where here's an opportunity not just say the word bipartisan, but to actually do it. And mean it to say. We do have the best academy of decades. Governor Walker does deserve credit for that. You know? Are there more things we can work together? Of course, there are. But I think, unfortunately, it's just another reminder that not mentioning real Wisconsin, not talking about anything, really, but Madison Milwaukee and wanted to spend more money. I just worry that he's so insulated in this Madison bubble that he forgets that the rest of Wisconsin thinks our economy's doing really well. And that we certainly don't need to send more money to the government. We want to keep more of what we are. We're talking to assembly speaker Ravin Vasso. So we had the speech we have the response. How do we get to a tax cut that the governor would eventually sign so I am incredibly heartened by the fact that our Senate colleagues are working right with us on this. So I think we're going to be in concert. I know Senator Dale Coyne got Senator FitzGerald Senator Howard Mark line have all been working really hard with the folks in our chamber Representative Nygren Representative Michael to try to ensure that we can get this tax cut across the finish line. So I'm really hard because I. Leave Republicans are definitely on the same page, and we will be during this two year session. And what that means is we need to get the Bill through our chambers and get it to governor Iverson and make him sign it or veto it because I cannot imagine us passing tax cuts or pre existing condition protections are a lot of the things we want to work out and having him veto those because he's so obstinate that he says, it's my way or the highway. Do you think that when he said that we were not going to spend money? We don't have that. He means it. Well, that's not really true. We have the money. The only guaranteed money that we have is the GOP surplus. That's in the Bank the fiscal bureau. Nonpartisan not memo saying that that money is already in the till? So there's no doubt whatsoever. We have six hundred million dollars. And let's remember we're not spending the entire so, plus we're only spending three hundred and forty million dollars to do the tax cuts and that'll be a permanent tax cut going forward. So every nickel perhaps you could then be critical because we have other priorities, but then most important numbers that people need to. Member is over the next two years, if we do nothing the state of Wisconsin is projected to generate about one point five billion dollars in additional revenues just because our economy is expanding. I think that's more than enough money to fund all of our priorities from the university to the K twelve education system, making sure employees get a raise. So I think that's where we need to start to say, we're not raising revenues. We can pay for the tax cut with a surplus, and we still have a billion and a half dollars left to invest in education and healthcare and everything else we need. We got about a minute left with assembly speaker, Ravin Voss, the governor mentioned education frequently during his speech last night. What should we look forward to either way spending or not spending on his plan for education in the state? So we all remember that under Tommy Thompson, Wisconsin set a goal to say, we're gonna find two-thirds of our schools, and we have been gradually of that number declined under Jim Doyle, and it's been increasing then governor under governor Walker. So I know that we're going to have a goal that Tony. You've been mentioned in his speech that I agree with him that our goal should be to return to two-thirds funding. If we do that, it'll be a historic investment in education. But it might not mean we're gonna spend every single nickel in detail on only a single program, even though it's an incredibly important, we do an awful lot. And we have to make sure we have that balance. So we'll still put a lot of money indicate twelve schools probably not the way governor Uber's I talked about last night. But hopefully, that's an area that we can work together on because we all know great education equals a fantastic steak going forward. Hey, real quick. And even say politics for a long time. Is there a learning curve for new governor? There's no doubt about it. Even even what we talked about with legalization of medical marijuana. And that's something that I've at least set an open to. But at the beginning of the day. He started talking about medical marijuana. And by the end of the day after getting questioned by reporters, he started talking about full legalisation, which is a non starter. So I think sometimes his inexperience is showing through that. He's never really been on the stage before he's never really been the focus of a lot of media attention. So that's why we've been trying to be generous and look at his ideas and try to work with him. Hopefully, he gets up to speed quicker. But at the same time. Luckily, Republicans are ready to go. We've got lots of good ideas. And we'll keep Wisconsin forward, regardless of being county ideas that he has assembly speaker, Robin, always great to talk to you. Thanks. You take care. You heard it from the Republican side as I said earlier, I've invited governor Tony Evers. I went to his spokesperson last night said more than welcome to come on the show and explain some of the things that he talked about in in more detail and that offers stands going forward. So governor Tony giving his first state of the state speech last night's one of the shorter ones in state history. But you know, he hit the right chords for his supporters. Now, the rubber meets the rubber meets the road. And we have to see these things can actually get done. More of the show next radio WTMJ..

"Hey there. Russian. And it's a good one has been. Okay, governor Tony you talk about a return to civility where have you been for the last eight years, the SEC who's driving this stuff? I mean, Republicans call it Walker derangement syndrome for a reason. Very good reason. The implication, as we note here in the piece is that this people before politics democrat, Tony will bind up Wisconsin's partisan wounds inflicted by the Republican controlled legislature, and particularly conservative governor Scott Walker as we know there is enough ill will in Wisconsin politics to simultaneously, choke, a donkey and in elephant, but the new governor seems to discount the seeds of all that nastiness the left's unhinged hatred for Walker and anyone who would dare help him deliver conservative reforms to state government. Hey, we can disagree on policy and we can disagree vehemently. But catch Monday's edition of macgyver institute. Shameless plug for you. But we talked to Senator Howard Mark line southwest.
