Ted Cruz under fire for saying Biden prioritizing 'citizens of Paris' by rejoining climate deal

"President joe biden. It's weird to say it after four years of president. Donald trump but president joe biden will be rejoining the non-binding paris climate accord something that donald trump of course pulled the united states. Out of back in two thousand seventeen. Now before i get into the details of how ted cruz is whining and crying about it. Let me just warn you guys and remind you in case you might have forgotten that it is a non binding international agreement with more than two hundred different countries Signing onto it agreeing that they are gonna try hard to lure carbon emissions in order to Help at least mitigate the impact of climate change now. Ted cruz doesn't like this and is either pretending to be stupid or is incredibly stupid by saying by rejoining the paris climate agreement president biden indicates. He's more interested in the views of the citizens of paris. That in the jobs of citizens of pittsburg this agreement will do little to affect the climate and will harm the livelihoods of americans. So i'm gonna let you take it away for minute was because i'm curious what you think about this argument by senator cruz. I mean he's stupid but the only thing interesting about how stupid it is because it's coming from ted cruz. The guy before. He decided he wanted to be. President of this country was considered to be the sort of intellectual arm of the republican party. Right like you supposed to be part of that like You know ivy league sort of in dub out q. You in a debate. Ted cruz was always the guy that certain types of conservatives would be like. Oh they don't want to get in the ring with ted cruz. He'll eat him alive because of his alleged alleged superior intellect and ever since he decided to run for president he's thrown all of that out the window and decided to eat the monkey brains man like this guy has completely lost his mind right publicly. Anyway in his shamelessness and willingness to do or say anything that he thinks will curry favour amongst republican base. So it's like you just can't take anything he says seriously anymore. And it's a shame because this is one of the one hundred guys. We have in the united states senate. It's it's sad. It's incredibly sad absolutely and so obviously the paris. Climate accord isn't about france. It isn't about paris. It's about climate change and it involves an international negotiation that took place in paris. Which is why. It's called the paris climate accord. This is something that representative alexandria ocasio. Cortez pointed out in response to ted cruz. Insanely stupid tweet. She writes nice. Tweet senator cruz. Quick question do you also believe the geneva convention was about the views of the citizens of geneva asking for everyone who believes us. Senator should be competent and not undermine our elections to incite insurrection against the united states. So what she's implying. That last part is that ted cruz had absolutely no problem. Disenfranchising voters from places around the country including pittsburgh So in addition to voting against the certification of pennsylvania's account. He also tried to get the supreme court to toss out the state's vote. It's also worth mentioning by the way that hits bergh Credibly supportive of the paris. Climate

You just heard Laura Cox give her testimony I read earlier in the program, the report from the secretary of State of Texas when they tested it. It was an unmitigated, appalling disaster, and they rejected it as a system to be used as recounting votes in Texas your thoughts Well, your your listeners don't need to understand the technical details on Dominion. What you just need to understand is like any program. This is a bunch of ones and zeros that either intentionally or either accidentally can have a glitch like any program. I hate to say falling short in Georgia may have been a blessing in disguise because which is a manual recount. Every recount in history has kept the boat within a few 100 votes. Now they manually count all these ballots in Georgia, and it's basically the same boat. And it looks like a glitch didn't change things. But if it's 10,000 off, 20,000 off you enough to really change it there. You really have put the pressure, then back on everyone else who used this system and saying This is more than your normal little glitches on election day of a few votes here and there. Unbelievable. Apple FaceTime bug turns your iPhone into hot mic

"I'm my kids are apple heads. But and they're trying to get my wife and me to get an iphone. I've got no interest. I I like my my Android experience and have for for a long time here. But this reminded me, do you remember there was a story? I want to say it was six seventy years ago. Maybe even longer where the claim was that even if your phone was off, I'm not talking about the screen is timed out. Your phone is just stamp. I'm talking about. There was a story that if your phone was powered down, and it was even a story that even if your battery was out, I don't know how the hell that could possibly be true. That there were government agency spy agencies like CIA or the NSA, whomever. Some of these spy agencies, and who knows about all little divisions and wings and arms. But there was a story that they could actually turn on your phone and use it as a microphone, so even if your cell phone was in your house or office or wherever and it was off that the story was is that the feds can actually turn it on and use your phone as a bug as a microphone. I remember. I heard this story years ago five eight years ago. So if you can maybe dig up one of the old stories, I'll give me a reference on the time. And I don't think I've heard of this since so I don't know if it was older devices or but it's peaked in its intrigue me I want to go back and do some research. I just didn't have time. And I I thought about it with his apple story. So before we grab some phone calls. Eight hundred. Eight zero one eighty nine ninety nine the nationwide number eight hundred eight zero one eighty nine ninety nine the funeral story. And as I set the story up and I teased this earlier in the hour. And I said, hey, I've got the funeral story which I had the story yesterday. I just didn't get around to doing it. But it's very very important story. And I said that this is a story that sort of has a happy ending. And when you when you say funeral or you think of a funeral you don't think of of happiness, but in this case, this kind of a smile on your face. It can bring a tear to your eye. And I thought the story was phenomenal. Because I had I heard about it over the weekend. I I printed the story out. And I I wanted to do it on yesterday's program. But I didn't have time to to to get into it because there's so much breaking news yesterday. And I wanted to give it enough time and not short shrift. The story is out of Texas. And if you've seen this, you know, it's. A wonderful story if you haven't listened it'll take a minute. An air force veteran passed away back in November in Texas by the name of Joseph Walker. And Joseph Walker's family was notified or the family had some communication with the funeral home. And then they dropped off the face of the map and the funeral home could not contact them. So the funeral home knowing that he was a military veteran. An air force veteran. They got with the central Texas State veterans cemetery in Killeen, Texas, and they put out a social media post that essentially they didn't want. This air force veteran to be alone at his funeral ceremony at this central Texas State veterans cemetery in Kaleen, so they put out a message on Facebook and social media, and it goes viral. They were afraid that he would be all alone at his funeral does a seventy two year old, man. Died of natural causes served in the United States Air Force from nineteen sixty four to nineteen sixty eight. He was a resident of Dale, Texas and died on November nineteenth apparently from natural causes. This thing went viral. And there are reports from local Texas media. That hundreds if not thousands showed up to the funeral. The last report I saw that K W T X television. They claim that there were five to six thousand vehicles in line. That's incredible. So the family was originally contacted about his passing they made contact. But then they couldn't. They couldn't contact the family again. And that's when they they put out this call on social media. And it went completely and totally viral. It was even a contingent looks like I'm looking at a picture here. We'll like dozens and dozens of air force airmen from Fort Hood, Texas in full uniform and American flags they showed up. Which again. It's a nice story. That he was not buried alone. Now, Mark George who is part of the central Texas combat vets motorcycle ministry services, he said at the funeral today. We're not strangers today. We are family. This is our brother Joseph Walker like a lot of other vets he signed the blank check for our nation. So just a a nice story. With a happy ending. And it just shows that the social media can be used for a lot of good and not a lot of the crap that we see today. Ted Cruz Senator Cruz from Texas even tweeted out over the weekend. Air force veteran. Joseph Walker be laid to rest Monday. And no one is expected to attend the cemetery said, they don't know what his family is. And they do not want him to be alone or they don't want it to be laid to rest alone. So they're asking the public to attend this. A a lot of. Social media posts on this. And again, some reports had five thousand plus vehicles. And I I saw video and pictures of a massive crowd at this funeral. So certainly a good story. And believe it or not Jake tapper from CNN and Ted Cruz, actually teamed up, and they tried to help spread the social media word. Also, I don't know if I'm going to get to this hour, but there is crazy video and audio of a woman that fat shames to larger individuals on a United Airlines flight earlier this month from. From Las Vegas to Newark. It was the United Airlines flight there's video audio and this woman was seated in the middle seat between two large passengers and just instead of handling this in a quiet subdued fashion by asking the flight attendant privately for help. If you're getting squished, you're getting squashed this lady made a scene, and I want to get into that coming up in just a bit as well. We also have the top intelligence chiefs their commentary on North Korea and other geopolitical situations, we have the North Korean summit coming up with President Trump the second one supposedly at the end of next month in February and there's a lot of concern. And as I've told you all along the North Koreans and Kim Jong Hoon are showing absolutely no Willard desire to actually dismantle. And the way I see it. As Trump is. Getting rope a dope like all the other previous negotiations with North Korea. The question is what will President Trump do about that? So we'll get to that coming up. All right. Let me grab a couple of calls. And then I want to get into this the CNN situation with Trump and the tweeting and this this viper book. And I think Trump made a mistake. I'll explain in just a bit. I to the phones let's grab Tom in Illinois. Tom your first up today on Schnitt. Welcome to the program. Thank you. Atop a little louder for me. Please. Thank you. Go ahead. I'm calling and these people that's problem for the president United States. Isn't that liberals? They want free Medicare for all do they not realize people work all her life. The Medicare, and then we may draw Medicare they've got to get a supplemental insurance. So we actually pay for insurance. How are they going to pay? These people probably never worked in the ride and all the legal immigrants coming across the border and its costs four to five trillion dollars out here again, listen even even Schultz, even even the liberal Howard Schultz from Starbucks who's threatening independent run. He's saying we can't afford this. I mean, it's it's preposterous. And of course, what they really want is universal single payer and they want socialized medicine, and you know, what happens to quality was socialized medicine worldwide. Thanks for the call. I appreciate it, Tom. Hey, sponsor this half hour on

Senator Rips Ted Cruz for 'Crocodile Tears' Over Shutdown

"Works securing the border. Walls are effective and I'll tell you every single border patrol agent. I've asked that and I have asked dozens probably hundreds of border patrol agents are walls affected unquestionably. They say, yes, let's not. Let's talk man. Walls, aren't the only thing you need technology, you need boots on the ground all sorts of other tools, but walls, the critical point in intercepting someone crossing over illegally. Is the time between detection. Interception. And what a wall does is slows down the traffickers to give the border patrol time. Intercepted. And by the way, we've seen it over and over again at San Diego when they built the wall the illegal traffic plummeted in El Paso when they built the wall the traffic plummeted. But now the Democrats their position it's not substantive. They voted for three hundred fifty miles a wall. So why are they shutting the government down over two hundred and thirty four miles at wall. It's not substantive. It's political. Okay. We get they hate Donald Trump. If anyone in America had missed that point that they really really really don't like this, man. There yelling and screaming, and we has made that a bundle clear. But just because you hate somebody. Doesn't mean you should shut the government down. I voted to keep this government open right now today, the Democrats are filibustering funding for the government. Let me tell you something else. A Senator from Colorado in dispute we had a whole colloquy with a Senator from Louisiana. The Senator from Mississippi the Senator for the last about funding, the coastguard did you notice? Madam President in that entire. Bellowing speech. The words coastguard whenever uttered. Not once. What Senator Kennedy asked this body to do was pass a clean Bill to pay the paychecks of the coast guard Senator Kennedy's Bill? Does it mention whether you like what are not mentioned in medieval wall or any other kind of? Well, it's simply says pay the coastguard. Yes. No. Every Republican agrees pay the coast guard right now, it's not fair to treat the coastguard differently than we're treating the army and navy and marines and air force. Senator from Colorado didn't address that. Because it is indisputable is the fact that the reason that didn't pass right now. Is because the democratic leader stood up and Nate an objection. And by implication, every democratic Senator presumably agrees with the fact that the Senator from Colorado didn't say, yes, we should fund the coastguard, and you know, what my leader was wrong. When he held the paychecks of the coast guard men and women hostage. Because he wants to win a political fight with the president. And by the way, I would note to the Senator of Colorado. It's not the end of the world to stand up to your party's leader. Some of us have a history of having done. So in the past. We're now in the longest government shutdown in history shutdown needs to end the American people want it to end. We also need to secure the border. And Madam President. I have to say the contrast between the two parties, it could not be clear. The president has repeatedly said he wants to negotiate and he wants to compromise. He said he's willing to meet in the middle. He hasn't insisted on. Every mile a border wall. He asked for he hasn't insisted on every single dollar a border security. He said, let's meet and compromise. Republicans on this side of the chamber of said, let's compromise in the middle and the position of Senate Democrats, they will not negotiate. They will not compromise period. So their position how many miles of wall can be built zero to one yet. When it comes to negotiating their position is not an inch of law can be built, even though we the Democrats already voted for three hundred and fifty miles out why. Because Donald Trump's president. That is an extreme and radical position. And look I understand folks watching at home, it's hard to tell you. You're reading the news. It seems like both parties are bickering. It's hard to tell what's happening, particularly because on the on the Senate floor. There's a lot of procedural mumbo jumbo. If you wanna understand what's going on the exchange between Senator Kennedy and Senator Schumer illustrates at all. Senator Kennedy's building one thing. And one thing only paid the salaries of the men and women of the coast guard it didn't touch any other issue. Every Republican agrees with that Bill. And the Democrats objected and said we will not pay the Goa coast guard had they not objective. We could put that Bill on the president's desk today, and they could get their paychecks right now. That is emblematic of the approach of Senate Democrats. And so. The Senator from Colorado. Stopped screaming at me. He then engaged in a bit of historical retrospective, Ted Cruz of Texas about the great framers of our constitution. That I enjoy it. Then that I very much agree with. I'm someone who's spent a lifetime devoted to the constitution. I am inspired by the framers who gave us this extraordinary Democratic Republic. The Senator from Colorado called for members of this body to aspire. To be more. Like this men and women that gave us this country gave us this Republic. If you can keep it. Benjamin Franklin put it. And I concur with that. And what I would urge the Senator from Colorado. Is to reach out to his democratic colleagues and council compromise. I am urging my colleagues on this side to do the same. And the difference is the Republicans are willing to compromise have offered to compromise. And in fact, just now sought to pay the coastguard and the democratic position is no, no, no we object. That is partisan. It is extreme. And it is not behavior. That would bring pride to the framers of our constitution. I hope that this body can do better. Senator from Colorado democrat, Michael Bennet, Texas for having this conversation. I don't think I was yelling. But I'll go watch the taper screaming at you. I also have never call anybody on this floor a liar. As you did somebody twenty fifteen on this floor, but the ethics of all of this. But I just wanted to say two things one. I appreciate the fact that you at least seem to be accepting the fact that every democrat who is here on that immigration Bill twenty thirteen voted for voted for the three hundred fifty miles of all that you're talking about. You didn't vote for that Bill or the Senator from Texas didn't vote for that Bill Nye soom, you had your reasons by the way, I wouldn't presume to think what you would think about it as a border as a person from border state. I say stop far from the border. And we see the effects ill real for good immigration in my state. But I do know this there were two senators from a border state. State of Arizona who were on that gang Bill. With whom I sat day after day after day negotiating the provision for months, and they didn't have to just. Vote for the Bill we're against it. But they had to go home to Arizona. John McCain and Jeff flake didn't explain why they support. And why was the right thing to do for Zona? Which is a Senator from Texas knows is a border state. So the idea that there's a problem to be solved here because Democrats in this chamber for open borders is false. As the Senator indicated. The second point is. Senator from Texas reference. Ben Franklin Franklin was standing outside the steps of constitution hall and somebody who was passing by this while they're writing constitution. Said mr. Mr. Franklin, what kind of government, are you creating a monarchy or Republic? That was the question. And is a Senator Cruz has said his answer was a Republican if you can keep it. If you can keep it. His injury was not a Republican. It was a Republic if you can keep it. Because he knew that the words written in the constitution. We're going to preserve themselves. Exercising democratic self government. A Democratic Republic. Would require generations. Of women and men not just in this chamber. But as citizens. And

"That Trump victory is a gift to Latimer poodles. It's like they're on the same page. And now you have Ladimir Putin. Basically pulling out the old KGB playbook on how to manipulate Donald Trump, and it appears he's fallen right into Mr. Trump's continued flattery of Mr Putin and the degree to which he appears to model many of his policies and approaches to politics on Mr Putin is unprecedented in American politics. Well, I gotta give people in there some credit for coming around seeing the light. Because those those those clips from two thousand sixteen Senator Graham and Senator Cruz they've both seen the light. And they're firmly on the president's team. And they know that this Russian collusion accusation is totally unfounded and unsubstantiated. So I give them credit for that the rest of them. I think are largely I think the rest of the people in their comprise the establishment that is grasping at straws for some way to de-legitimize us president. And I'm frankly sick of it. And I brought up in the in the in the in the b block that. Mike concern is that this could become the new norm. I mean, Democrats have clearly overstepped their bounds here. They have worked chip away at the foundation democracy purely because they don't like Trump right wasn't enough to oppose him and obstruct him on all of this policy. But they've got him down as a person and as the president. In my concern is that, you know, this could play both ways because you know, as a Republican, I'm going to want some retribution. And I think that's bad for our democracy. It's a real shame. Anyway, this is what's getting Harlen hill in for Buck Sexton here on the Buck Sexton show, I wanna thank you all for for tuning in. "Steve is how you weigh in on the conversation. We've been talking about the wall we heard the border patrol down in Texas. Thank the president. Thanks, Senator Cruz, another members of congress that were there touring and getting information factual information about what really goes on down there. You heard from the border patrol a Hispanic at that making it clear that border crossings now in the last few weeks or under fifty percent in terms of families and their children more than fifty percent are people from other countries, China Romania refugees from the Middle East friends. We've got a problem this proves it. But of course, CNN MSNBC ABC CBS all the alphabet soup networks won't. Well, they just won't give you the truth. In fact, if you saw Jim cost I think as everybody saw him walking down there. He looks like an idiot. I feel sorry for him. Because his IQ is an I don't know how he got to be where he's at. Maybe it's just because equal opportunities last names a cost. I don't know because he's not a very smart guy. I mean, he really isn't a very smart guy. So he goes out to the wall, and he's out there walking the wall, and he's touching the wall. And he's basically stating that see what a tranquil place not much going on. Really? You're more on no wonder, whether it's a wall. Of course, there's nothing to go on. Of course, it's tranquil. Of course. No one's going to be crossing. You're looking at this huge still law that you're walking by my gosh, what an idiot. But fake news CNN. They refused to air the story on the effectiveness of it. And there is a of the wall. We just need more of it. I mean, it was something that the Democrats were all four before Donald Trump before Donald Trump all of them were for a wall, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Obama, Harry Reid. Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi. They were all for a wall or some type of barrier. Now, the Donald Trump is in office. They're not for the wall. This tells me, and it should tell you that. Well, the Democrats and some Republicans that stay silent really don't have America's best interests at heart. I mean, they really don't because if they did they would be doing so much more to help this country. Get back to where it needs to be. It's a real pain just like the pain in my neck. I've been feeling sick for the last couple of days. Friends will be honest with you, even producer Nate's not in the studio tonight sick. But I'll tell you when I get this tension, and I've had this flu bug. I go to my friends at realtime pain relief for the sponsors of this half hour. I mean, real pain and real time pain relief works. It's not a nasty pill that gives you side effects. You know, the kind I'm talking about go to the medicine cabinet pull out a pill. It helps a little bit. But you're the side effects are horrible. "My men and women on the frontline or facing this threat every day. It is my honor to represent them in their efforts to make our country safer by bravely, combatting cartels and other threats. When border patrol agents report to work, they have no way of knowing what they may encounter a family lost in the desert or a cartel. Rip crew armed with fully automatic weapons. The job is unpredictable, and it is demanding. But whether they are stopping criminals and narcotics or save lives. The men and women of the border patrol are well trained in guardians of America's frontlines. I thank you for your time. And I look forward to your questions. Thank chief. There's a vote on in the Senate. And so Senator Durbin has gone to go vote. And I'm going to go vote and turned the gavel over to Senator Cruz who will preside and we'll be back shortly. Good afternoon, chairman Cornyn Senator Cruz sano for you today to discuss Mexican cartels the extent of their efforts to manufacture transport and distribute illicit narcotics within the United States in our efforts to combat this threat. I've had the privilege of being a DA special agent since nineteen Ninety-one when I reflect on those twenty seven years of experience sophistication and capacity of the Mexican cartels worries me now more than ever. Dangerous and highly sophisticated Mexican transnational criminal organizations or cartels operating in both Mexico and the United States have been and will continue to be the most significant source of illicit narcotics. Traffic inside the United States, whether it's heroin and synthetic opioids methamphetamine or cocaine the Mexican cartels are the primary source of illicit drugs on our streets, perhaps the most disturbing aspect of Mexican cartels has been the confluence of three things the synthetic drug threat the dynamic of opioid abuse and the.

Early voting in Texas begins with lines, strong turnout

"Sweeping campaign against politics as usual, he's not a really didn't criticize cruise until the last couple of weeks his campaign for a year and a half has been to go around Texas say let's find different way to lead America. And now he's spending money on Facebook live edge personal ads personal appeals. I saw six and a half hour last night personal messages of them talking to people in Texas say, let's do something to change Texas using network chain. He's telling people this is the most important election lifetime. So he's developing a young strong personal following. Here's somebody who played a punk rock band or skateboards, but who has the sweeping appeal of a young Kennedy figure, and so he's become very charismatic, and it's caused many people who were moderate Republicans. Take a look at him after Ted Cruz is put a presidential campaign. Take crews, obviously was popular in Texas, but also lost some Trump voters know Ted Cruz has to appeal. Trump voters work is trying to win over voters who were disenchanted with Ted Cruz. So is this part of a rebuilding effort by the Aurore campaign for the Democratic Party? In addition to his own race for the US Senate. They're almost as nothing to rebuild. This is the the battle Kratz. There is very little Texas Democratic Party to build on the party has managed forty two. Forty four percent of the vote in most of the recent elections, the Obama Clinton campaign. Screw forty four percent. Duma candidates have gotten into thirty percent sometimes in this midterm election. So the Democrats don't even have a county chairs in many, Texas counties. There is no democratic structure. This is not that'll rebuilding the Texas Democrats. This is better running his own party. And some democratic candidates may be able to ride into. Offices a result. We're talking with bud Kennedy. Here's a metro columnist in Fort Worth Texas for the star telegram as you look at the returns coming in on election night, where does Ted Cruz need to do. Well, and where does beta over Orkney to do? Well, there are two interesting markets in Texas. No one is on and one is Corpus Christi. They're both metal size markets that voted for President Obama. But then turned around and voted for President Trump Celica Cruz needs to keep those markets in the red side. He's a field that he was the one who is there to help them during hurricane Harvey. He was one help who helped bring relief to the Gulf Coast area. The both of those areas are considered the swing markets in Texas for congressman or work. Karen county is considered the bellwether Tarrant county is what? It's the third largest county in Texas actually larger than all sorts of San Antonio. It's considered a bellwether that the numbers the percentages in Tarrant county almost exactly match the statewide percentages. Federal work has worked very hard trying to win. Our come close Tarrant county to make up some of the gap. It's so largest reliably red urban county two years ago, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz were bitter rivals. Senator Cruz did not even endorse. Donald Trump onto the stage at the convention in Cleveland, Ohio for the Republican national convention. What changed Ted Cruz is seeing things that he wanted to accomplish have been accomplished by President Trump? And basically if you remember when Ted Cruz started running for president he wanted to be the ball charged into wash turns everything over broke everything started over again, he wanted you what President Trump is do it. So Ted Cruz is saying that the results President Trump's administration had been essentially what take crews would have done if he were elect. Did except obviously with a different style. Ted Cruz is managed to convince President Trump says that that crews each Trump and Trump meets crews. And so they're big rally in Houston is the new the new love match with the two here in Texas. And finally, but Kennedy you're on the ground, you're talking to friends and neighbors, you're seeing the advertising on social media and on television. What is this race feel like to you? This has been fascinated. There's been so much talk about it for so long. It started out feeling like a small little Texas movement. There was so much rural and Christian. You see these pictures that would come in of big crowds in which falls on level later gangs. Molin you look at the all farmers and rural voters and people who normally wouldn't even have seen a democrat. We're turning out some of those like a dinosaur. It comes Mel detail. So they went and they came out to see this democrat. And then at some point it changed. Do we say that? That's when it went from being Texas Beto to Hollywood, and he did the national TV shows, and it became more like a a Grateful Dead tour where I went from town to town people were actually going and collecting all the t shirts and every town and following him on to cheer. It was like it was like the Beto heads run all around any sort of losing a little bit of following world Texans there, but he still has a tremendous amount of support for for teachers and educators in Texas who feel picked on the current Texas administration. Teachers and educators are have turned out a large a large number of votes for the first time in probably thirty or thirty five years. It's still tough to believe in Texas. We say never believe a democrat will win until you see the votes happening. It's like snow never believe it's going to snow until you see it falling feel the same way about Democrats winning. It's been chrome. So many times, but it has happened since but Kennedy a columnist in Fort Worth Texas. His work available at star telegram dot com. Thank you for being with us. Thank you. "Done after running as the archetypal outsider in earlier campaigns, Texas, Republican Senator Ted Cruz has leaned on his establishment connections to win reelection. James Larkin Senate campaigns reporter at politico has looked at the challenge from democratic congressman Beto Rourke James set this up essentially after Ted Cruz twenty sixteen campaign in the first couple of months to first eighteen months really of President Trump. We saw very different Senator Cruz than what we saw what he came to the Senate in twenty call. He was working collaboratively with his colleagues. He was working clever to the White House. He was working during hard to kind of play the inside game and get things done. And so what we're seeing now is in the last six weeks. There was some concern that Senator Cruz the states in a little bit of trouble from. Roy the massive democratic superstar porn and record sums of money. You know, maybe making Texas Senate competitive, and you know, one that Senator Cruz has not relied on the past. But that he was able to rely on and get help with was the party samples. Matt kind of coming in and helping them out, you know, the vice president raising money, the president son campaigning for him the president offering to come down and campaign for him. So, you know, Senator Cruz is sort of the quintessential outsider candidate got got some help from the Washington insiders in the Republican party to stabilize the race and make it, you know, give him an edge. And how does this play among those who supported him for being an outsider interesting from Ted Cruz and supporters, of course, supporting is they would argue that, you know, he's still the conservatives firebrand, he always while he's still abandoned his values. One of one of the folks that I talked to from Texas Tommy, essentially, you know, Ted Cruz changing his value becoming more of a moderate you'd see. The collapse in his support. And that's not really what's happening. It's he's just relying on help. He's been more collaborative less of a bomb thrower in that, you know, it's benefited him. And I don't think he lost supporters because of it got it. What did the as you said the pieces campaign wobbled earlier this year? Why is that what it what it mister O'Rourke do for his part is part of the Senate campaign? I think the thing about the federal workers he raised a ton of money and kind of attention, you know, owning crazy amounts of money. He was holding these rallies, you know, thousands of people over going to and and he he kind of sparked sort of a little bit of a movement, and he was up on TV without spending Ted Cruz on TV and not very surprising that the democrat could be out spending and outraging Republican in Texas, especially one is widely known as Ted Cruz. And so it just sparked a little bit of concern that maybe the sort of better movement was real in fact, and I think the Cruz campaign kicked it into full gear. Toward the end of summer and going into the fall kind of realizing that they were facing a challenge. And and they they stepped it up calling show that Ted Cruz in Sweden pretty he's not running away with it. But he's got a healthy lead in the race. And so you know, they had to kick it into gear. They were facing a challenge from three million dollars third quarter. Well, that is just an absolute record for speak with James Arkan Senate campaign reporter for politico. He's written a piece entitled cruise plays the inside game to beat a rock. You said that Senator Cruz sanded down some of the sharp edges on his personality. I give an example, I think the clearest example of that is you look at the horrible Care Act. You know, high profile Republicans repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and remember crews shut down the government over ObamaCare when he first concert the Senate, you know, he was rallies outside the capitol. And he was really using sort of outside pressure force on the public and inside the capitol to force their hand. And he did successfully force their hands to the chagrin of. His colleagues, and and folks in the capital and the new time around in two thousand seventeen he was meeting with other senators working very closely with his colleague, he wasn't there and bombs outside. You're trying to get it done, and they were unsuccessful, but they were unsuccessful not because of Senator Cruz, Bob and Bob's bombs the way that you know, he had previously you quoted a Republican consultants in your story who said something to the effect of that Beto federal Rourke had become the Ted Cruz of this election almost like he was taking a page from cruises playbook. Yeah. In a sense. It's it's funny. He'd get some pushback from Republicans, can you sort of better work outsider because he's in politics for more than a decade and has a few house terms under him. But he's he's running Wisconsin campaign against the establishment, again all ticks as usual against the way, things are usually done in in Washington. And so he he's trying to get onto this sort of anti establishment, anti politics as usual metro that famous for and contrast that it's democrat in Texas and very hard to run. "Mitchell for Senator Cruz. Thank you. Dr ford. We've talked about the day in the night that you've described in the summer of nineteen eighty two and thank you for being willing to do that. I know it's difficult. I'd like to shift gears and discuss the last several months, okay? In your statement. You said that on July sixth you had a quote sense of urgency to relate the information to the Senate and the president did you contact either the Senate or the president honorable before July sixth? No, I did not. I did not know how to do that. Okay. Prior to July six had you spoken to any member of congress. And when I say congress, I mean, the Senate or the house of representatives or any congressional staff members about your allegations. No. Why did you contact the Washington Post on July sixth? So I was panicking because I knew the timeline was short for the decision. And people were giving me advice on the beach people who don't know about. The processes that. They were giving me advice and many people told me you need to hire a lawyer. And I didn't do that. I didn't understand why I would need a lawyer. Somebody said call the New York Times, call the Washington Post put in an anonymous tip go to your congressperson. And when I weighed those options I felt like the best option was to try to do the civic route, which is to go to my congress person who happens to be an issue. So I called her office. And I also put in the anonymous tip to the Washington Post and neither unfortunately, neither got back to me before the selection of the nominee. You testified that congresswoman issues office contacted you on July ninth set, right? They contacted me the date the nominee was announced. So that seems like likely with how'd you talk to about your allegations? With anyone in her office before the date of July nine I told the receptionist on the phone. On July tenth you texted the Washington Post again, which was really the third time. Is that right? Second date. Third time. Let's see. Correct. And you texted been advised to contact senators or New York Times haven't heard back from Washington Post who advised you to contact senators or the New York Times beach friends coming up with ideas of how I could try to get. Two people because people weren't responding to me very quickly. So very quickly. They responded to that text for what unknown reason that once. I sent that encrypted text. They responded very quickly. Did you contact the New York Times? No, why not. I wasn't interested in pursuing the media route, particularly so I felt like one was enough the Washington Post. And I was nervous about doing that. My preference was to talk with my congress person. The Washington Post texted back that someone would get in touch. Get you in touch with reporter. Did you subsequently talk to a reporter with Washington Post? Yes. Under the encrypted app. Off the record. Okay. Who was that reporter Emma Brown? Okay. The person who ultimately wrote the story on September sixteenth. Correct. Okay. Did you talk to any member of congress? And again, remember congress includes the Senate or the house of representatives or any congressional staff members about your allegations between July tenth and the July Angela thirtieth which was the date of your letter to Senator Feinstein. Yes, I met with congresswoman as shoe staff, and I think that's eighteen and the Wednesday, and then on the Friday, and that with the congresswoman herself. Okay. When you met with her. Did you meet with her alone or did someone come with you? I was alone. She had a staff person. Okay. What did you talk about with congresswoman you on and her staff on July eighteenth and the twentieth? I describes a night of the incident. And we spent time speaking about that. And I asked her how to what my options were in terms of going forward, and how to get that information relayed forward and also talk to her about fears of whether this was confidential information, and she discussed the constituent confidentiality principle. Thank you. Thank you chairman Grassley. I'd like to ask unanimous consensus, admittedly, record five articles, including one titled why sexual assault memory, stick and one entitled why didn't cavenaugh accuser come forward. Earlier police often ignore sexual assault allegation with our objections or Dr Ford I want to begin by thanking you for coming to testify in front of us today. You came forward with very serious and relevant information about a nominee for a lifetime position on our supreme court. You didn't have to and I know you've done it at great personal cost. This is a public service. And I want you to know that I'm grateful to have the opportunity to hear from you directly today. I'd like to just I follow up on that line of questioning is Mitchell was following. Because I think a lot of people don't realize that you chose to come forward with your concerns about judge cavenaugh before he was nominated to the supreme court. Do I understand correctly that when you when you first reached out to congresswoman? And to the Washington Post tip line that was when he was on the shortlist, but before he was nominated to the supreme court is that correct? Correct. And if I understood your testimony earlier, it's that you were motivated by sense of civic duty. And frankly, I hope that some other highly qualified nominee might be picked not out of a motivation at a late stage to have an impact on the final decision. Correct. I felt it was very important to get the information to you. But I didn't know how to do it while there was still a shortlist of candidates. Thank you. Dr. According to Justice department, data about two thirds of sexual assault survivors, don't report their assaults based on your experience. I'd be interested in hearing from you about this. Because you bore this alone. You bore this alone for a very long time. And it'd be helpful for us to better understand the ways that that's impacted your whole life. It's it's impacted me different stages of the development of my life. So the immediate impact was probably the worst. So the first four years, I think I described earlier a fairly disastrous. First two years of undergraduate studies at university of North Carolina where I was finally able to pull myself together and. Then once coping with with the immediate impacts the short term impacts experienced like longer term impacts of anxiety relationship challenges. Thank you for sharing that. And yet you went on to get a PHD from USC's at correct, correct? As you predicted. There was a wide range of responses to your coming forward. Some thousands of survivors have been motivated and inspired by your courage. Others have been critical and as I've reviewed the wide range of reactions. I've been really troubled by the excuse offered by too many that this was a high school incident and boys will be boys to me that's just far too lowest standard for the conduct of boys and men in our country. If you would I'd appreciate your reaction to the excuse that boys will be boys. I can only speak for how it has impacted be greatly for the last thirty six years. Even though I was fifteen years old at the time. And I think. The younger you are. When these things happen, it could possibly have worse impact than when you were a full when your brain is fully developed, and you have better coping skills that you've developed. Experts have written about how it's common for sexual assault survivors to remember some facts about the experience very sharply. Very clearly, but not others, and that has to do with the survival mode that we go into in experiencing trauma is that your experience. And is that something you can help the person understand? Yes. It was definitely experiencing the fight or flight mode. Is that what you're referring to? Yes. So I was definitely experiencing the surge of adrenaline and cortisol norepinephrine and. Credit that a little bit for my ability to get out of the situation. But also some other lucky events that occurred. To get out of the event, Dr Ford, we are grateful that you came through it. And that you shared your account with us in the American people. And I think you've provided important information. I'd like to thank you for your meeting, your civic duty. I wish we could have provided for you more thorough hearing today, I think asking for the FBI to investigate this matter thoroughly was not asking too much. I think asking to have the other individual involved in your assault. Mark judge appear before us today was not asking too much. I'm grateful you came forward, and I'm thankful for your courage, which set an important example. Thank you, Dr mismatch for Senator says. Dr Ford we were talking about you meeting in July with congresswoman SU, did you talk about your obligations with any Republican member of congress or congressional staff. I did not where I live. The congressman is a democrat. Okay. Was it communicated to you by your council or someone else that the committee had asked to interview you and that they offered to come out to California to do? So we're going to object Mr Chairman to any call.

"Will be real hell to pay in November voters are fed up. They want Washington Republicans to stand up and finally do what they said they would do hear a dear friend, Ted Cruz as mine. Have a stepson who works for Ted Cruz? But I was a friend of Ted Cruz for twenty years and a friend, and he's and he's quite solid. And what do you make of this? The restaurant in Washington DC where he and his wife are really physically accosted by this this mob. Well, I think it demonstrates the extent to which the progressive socialist liberal left. Whatever you wanna call it. Whatever labels. They choose to to put on themselves are so out of touch with the American people. And so indicative of everything that's wrong with Washington Senator Cruz has been fighting for the people of Texas to do what he said he would do when he went to Washington and for the left to go cost him and his wife at a restaurant is so far out of bounds. The frankly, even on social media, they I was noticing a lot of people that were again, more moderates or liberals that were saying guys this this is over the top. Again, I think they're overplaying her hand, but, you know, threatening Senator Cruz threatening his family, and that's something that's so far out of touch with the people of Texas. And I think that's why you saw his opponent miserable. Rourke put out some social media saying, yeah that that's not good. We we shouldn't do that. We should leave Senator Cruz and his family alone. And they, you know, those those aren't Texas values. I can assure you. People in Texas wouldn't take kindly to being interrupted in their restaurant. Like that. But we all know, however, don't we that Beato would be voting for Schumer to be the leader of the Democrats in the Senate that he would be participating with the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary committee during the character assassination thing, he's a leftist. But I wanna talk about your race. Now. It is crucial. It's crucially important that we elect conservative movement leaders would decades of backgrounds that can reassure us that they're going to be solid in this battle in the house representatives. We may well lose the house. It may be very very ugly. More the reason to make sure states like Texas and other conservative states, particularly in your district, the twenty-first district that we put somebody like you in this position. Tell us a little more about you and your opponent. Absolutely. Well, getting people listening to your show now that I'm a proud Texan. My family came here in eighteen fifty one my great great grandfather was a Texas ranger. My grandma was a single mom of west Texas, raising my polio stricken father after her husband had died of cancer. And she didn't look for handouts. She figured out how to take care of herself worker self out became the first woman elected county clerk in a small town in Texas. Those are the Texas values that make the state great. Those are the read. That's the reason why thousands of people a day are moving to Texas. But unfortunately, we're being attacked. Our Texas values are under assault from a crazy left. The left at supporting better work, the left that is supporting my opponent Joseph cops, and those values are their values are fully out of step with the people of Texas legit give you a couple of little tidbit. My Ponant who tries to claim it as being a centrist supports impeachment of president. Trump supports government run healthcare supports undoing the tax Bill that put more money in our pockets wants a carbon tax wants a financial transaction tax wants to take away border patrol assets and give them to foreign countries. And if I could go down the list wants to fund Planned Parenthood wants to do a gun confiscation, and and have more gun regulations. None of these values are in step with our beliefs. They believe that they can win this election on the back of the chaos at the mid terms. But the fact is nothing that they stand for is in sync with the people of Texas. And so we're doing our job working hard to knock. Doors make phone calls raise money, my website, ship dot com. Do you ever think we need to do to put to put ads up on the air and make sure people know what's really going on with both Mr. Rourke my opponent. And frankly, some of the others miserable work raised nine million dollars in August through blue. He's got money coming from all over the country by Ponant getting some of that too. And it's not reflecting Texas. Hollywood values in California, New York values. Now your opponent served in the military is that correct? He did. And I thank him for his service. But I just as soon as public service and right there. Yeah. Because he was carefully. Targeted and found by the Democrats. So he can say that he served in the military, but he's a leftist isn't he no question about it? If you you know, he likes to talk about reaching across the aisle and figuring out how to work together. But, you know, go back and look at the yard signs that he put out during the primaries, you know, progressive's for judge of cops are those are all indications of where he's really coming from. And like I said, I went through the list of issues, you would think it's because my crack staff has done a lot of opposite oppa research. No, no, go look at the website. I go to my website and look at Chippewa dot com and give me some money to help me win this race. But his website outlines all of those things about which we disagree and the things I just outlined, and it's and it's real right? I mean government run healthcare what he calls Medicare for all you. And I both know that cost forty trillion dollars bankrupt are bankrupt the nation faster than it's already being bankrupted. Absolutely. And would destroy Medicare as it currently exists. It wouldn't do anything to help people with Briggs. Listing addition because they would put us on waiting lists. And make us have rationed care from government bureaucrats telling us exactly what healthcare we can get what we can't get we know how to solve this problem. And frankly, you, and I also know that the problem is that Republicans haven't been doing what they said they would do. And that's why so many people are frustrated the wrong path to go down is to take that out by going down and try to support a socialist rather. Let's follow the lead of a president who's shaking up the the status quo in Washington taking on the swap. And let's go make sure that we get healthcare freedom secure a border. Get a strong economy. Give our men and women the tools they need and then get Washington. The heck out of the way. Let Texas beat Texas. Now, Jim Jones Jim Jones. Has has endorsed you. Jim Jordan is what I'm saying. Jim Jordan has endorsed you. Ted cruz. Mike lee. Mark meadows, and you know, folks, who are reliably solid and conservative are very much hoping that you'll you'll win this race. How's it? Look, we've feel good. We've been looking at numbers that give us a lot of confidence that if we do our job and finish the race and run to the tape. We're going to be in good shape. But that's all contingent on getting continued support from conservatives around the country. We've had a grassroots campaign from the beginning, we've had thousands and thousands of supporters from from Texas from this district, including something in some from your audience from from Texas and around the country. And we're so blessed to have that we've got to have the resources to finish the race. But those those endorsing a lot your endorsement mental Jim Jordan's coming to Fredericksburg, Texas. I'm really close to there right now out in Bernie, Texas and the hill country. He's coming out this weekend to do an event for me with some strong conservative activists in the hill country, and we're just we're just doing everything we know how to do to get a message out around the dish. "AC We talked. To Senator Cruz off air maximize time we had with him and get to the issues that. We know you want to hear about so. Here is what we just recorded Senator I'm gonna brag on you so that you don't have. To do it easier and more, polite if somebody does it for you this is a, big development in the army futures command and you. Get a lot of credit for that I know you're proud. Of it for folks that don't. Know tell, them, what that is Well that the army announced last week that. That Austin Texas is is the side of the new army's future command which is a three star command that is charged with. Modernizing the army and with streamlining the adoption of. New weapons and new technology and this is going to result in about five hundred jobs in. The Austin area immediately and and it is. It is the command charged with laying out the modernisation in future the army and it's a. Big big deal they had a, competitive process all across the country for where to base, it commands and and ultimately often prevailed and the. And Eileen vigorously in support of Austin was very glad that. That that the army agreed You know it's interesting, when when things like that happen. You know here we are in in the shadows of of NASA you don't realize. At that time how big a deal that's going to be but literally for generations that that that makes a difference for generations Yeah Well and I tell you it was a coordinated. Push so the governor's office played a deporting partner at the university of Texas played an important part in making the. Case and so, I I personally spent time with both army, secretary Mark s for an army under secretary Ryan. McCarthy we're leading up this process and the case I was, making as I, said let me look at it a bunch of cities all over the country at the. End and the one Texas city was. Austin and I, said you know? What none of these other places can match what Austin has in terms of number, one young talent coming out of. UT every year scientists engineers met a man petitions number, two the, tech the tech community and around Austin is growing and. Booming and that's that's a tremendous resource for the army futures. Common and then number three commitment to the military, there there is simply no state the union that loves the military that values the military that supports the, military the way Texas. Does and so the case I made was that Austin, was For what they were looking for the perfect combination the university of Texas leaned, in and provided them. With space so they're going to co locate the command As part, of the physical space of the university of Texas system and I think it's gonna prove, a really significant thing for the for the future of the. Army but also for the, future of Texas Senator, Ted Cruz is our guest some leading Democrats, and major, leaders in the democrat party are calling for the abolition of ice which never believed would happen your response to that well Michael you're right I mean we really have entered a crazy time it you know all of this started about a month ago and it started about a month ago when. This socialist fringe candidate in New York won a democratic primary and defeated a long time incumbent democratic, congressman astonished the the Democratic Party nationally And she had run, on a, of campaign explicitly is a radical campaign part of it was abolishing I the immigration and customs enforcement agency which is the agency that is charged with enforcing our immigration laws of keeping us safe with fighting drug cartels and criminals And and since, that primary win we'd been saying Democrats all over the country just falling all over, themselves.
