"AP News I'm Tim Maguire, President, Trump tells a crowd in Pittsburgh. He is a protector of the Second Amendment and Democratic governors are anti religion because they're keeping churches closed during the pandemic. They don't like God religion, churches of clothes. How about these? These states? You know, they still have churches, schools and by the way, your governor hasn't been so great. You know, your churches still loves. There's still love. You're doing it for a reason. The president insists his administration prevented millions of covert 19 deaths. We closed it up, we save millions of lives. That's the bottom line. We closed it up. We saved millions of lives. Johns Hopkins reports more than 200,000 deaths in this country, the most in the world. The nation's death toll is averaging 770 people today as a report from the University of Washington that there could be another 200,000 deaths in the next three months. The partisan fight intensifies in the Senate over President Trump's plan. The nominated successor, the late Supreme Court, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, leader McConnell's actions may now very well destroy. The institution of the Senate. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer is not pleased. There appears to be support among Republicans for vote before Election Day. Republican leader Mitch McConnell says there's no deal to wait until after the election, giving in to political blackmail. Would not do a thing to secure Our institution. President Trump plans to name his nominee Saturday. Ginsberg's burial at Arlington National Cemetery is in the middle of next week, Vice President Mike Pence had to fly back to Washington on a cargo plane used by the Secret Service to transport his vehicles after his plane hit a.

"We talk to them. And we are getting phone calls from Washington from California from Delaware from Pennsylvania. I stop right there before you get the Pennsylvania every one of those states. Donald Trump's not gonna win. I'll bet you any amount of money. So here, let's make a little wager. Right? Okay. California. Hello, Oregon, Washington. These are places that are under siege under democratic rule. They have governors that are willing to turn off their water and their electricity if they think that they're going out. Too far on a limb against the regulations. And to say that they're suppressing civil liberties is an understatement. And I believe that there are a lot of Democrats who are sitting at home, smiling and nodding just because they don't want to get into a lot of not they're not confrontational. Like you and me. They don't want to argue. They just want to go along on weight when they get in there, and they pull that lever they're going. So you want to bet me that Donald Trump is going to win California, Oregon and Washington. Do you really want me to take your money? Because he's not. I don't know that he'll win them. But I do not believe that they are in single digits in California. I don't know. I mean, they could steal it. Like Listen, you know, Kevin McCarthy is saying they're going to be counting a boat up to 16 days after Election Day in California. The recount for this Oh, man, it's going to make the hanging chads look like nothing. I hope not simple, you know, rather than ever happened And this is where I call nor hands on deck moment. I think the country you've got to understand if you're in any of the states, I mentioned You know, I got it. I used the urgency analogy of being on your own 22 minutes to go in the game. No timeouts marched down the field. 80 yards crossed the plain kicked the extra point. That's what you need to do to win. You don't understand a word of it because you don't know what football is. That's from so But the point is you got if everybody does their part with urgency, you have tohave Ali listen when they're talking about stacking the court's ending the legislative filibuster in the Senate Senate They're talking about eliminating the electric college. Let me tell you. What's gonna happen will be the divided states of America if they try to get rid of the electoral college. We want statehood so that they would have a majority in the Senate in perpetuity that talking about Nancy Pelosi, we can impeach Trump every day of the week for anything he does in peach bar. We have a lot of arrows in the quiver. It is for one minute. There's something that you say, and I don't think it gets enough attention. And we've talked about it quite a bit through live free or die and and other people who are reading these great books right now. Like the judge, that was on today, really, just we need our audience to think of one main thing, which is These people have all been in office for more than 100 years combined. They have done nothing for the American voter. Not a thing of president is right. He's Dunmore. In 47 months, and Biden has done in 47 years and I defy anybody that wants to call this programme and tell me his great accomplishment in this as defined as exactly as he improved the lives of the American people. Exactly. I go. Where were you on 9 11 2012. When our soldiers were dying when our civilians that were working in the an excited Benghazi. Where is point? What difference does it make Hillary? But But Biden is the person we're talking about. We knew Hillary was a horrible human being. We knew it. But Joe Biden Whose whose son God rest his soul served in the military. How could you let a fellow military person knowing that your child served as well die and do nothing you brought? Could you give Mullah's in Iran 150 Billion light? You were optimistic and use had no doubts in 2016. You did I I just I had one doubt. But once that doubt went was done, I was like that's it, honey, I until I hear the words and I hope I hear them. I hope the mob When the media has to choke on them that we can now project Donald J. Trump has been elected reelected the 45th president, United States, I will be there. You know what I do on election night? Nobody is allowed near me on election night. That's correct. I will have because I don't have a computer. But I will set up a war room with five at least computers in front of me and I have a list of people that I will be communicating with that understand where Cuyahoga County and Hamilton County is that understand Well, you know, look older and I will be looking and handers. And I'll be using software that, you know. Look, I was the one that first told the president he won last. The last time I called him up on itself. I said, Mr President, Congratulations. I called them. After the exit poles came out. I said, Don't pay attention of them. Somebody that drawing straws right now, and somebody's gonna walk in and give you very bad news and he handled it really well. It's like, OK, what I said you didn't wanna state according to exit polls that I told a Dick Cheney Call to this radio program on Election Day 2000 for where John Kerry, exit polls showed he was president on DATs. Another thing you're on Arizona. You can't pay attention in Nevada and New Mexico. Don't pay attention to exit polls. Everybody needs to go out your vote. Do it. Just period you're locked in. You're gonna vote. Now it's yourself. I am not against voting early. If that's if that's more convenient for you, but make sure you double check that your vote was counted. And there are ways that you could do that and remind your friends and family who think the bite and Harris are great. Just remind them of all the things that they haven't done and that the things that they are doing are terrible and that they have a record of just talking a lot. Obama was a fantastic speech giver. That is what he did. He was a great orator. End of story. That's where it started and ended. He did. All right, I gotta Ah, I gotta and here it is telling me National voter registration day is today we the people We hold these truths, etcetera. Sounds corny, but it's really because now you say, by the way, are you going to stick with the president on the following President? The last guy on this issue? What I proposed is It can be done. I think we're in a position to really.

C. government passes and that creates some real friction between what are the National Congress is interested in and what the more than seven hundred thousand people in the district John this is something that's been in the works for a while all right yet there has been for decades real serious movement within DC organizationally to lobby Congress to take this step there have been you know grass roots efforts that has tried this and failed for quite some time in fact the only time that it came to to a vote in the house about DC statehood with the nineteen ninety three and that measure failed pretty badly and only got about a hundred and fifty five votes but it never came up again until this year when as you said at the opening of the house passed the legislation I yesterday how is this expected to benefit the city's black population well right now this is a a Washington DC is a majority minority city it is a more than fifty percent of black and Latino and I'm white now those voices are not being heard in Congress this is a city without representation even though DC pays a significant sums of federal income tax and obviously contributes to the broader economy but those voices aren't being heard there is no representation in Congress for those hundreds of thousands of individuals and so this is a city that is facing a lot of challenges it is a city that needs help from Congress and really it's a city that needs that voice in Congress to make sure that its population of her

"Doing that. So our strategy if we were today to say to Republicans come out and vote with us even though we have indeed even most of us haven't said finally our voting. We're waiting to see the evidence but make sure you vote to get rid of president trump. We wouldn't get anywhere but asking for witnesses something so reasonable and supported by sixty four percent of Republicans is I expect. We'll get a bunch Republican with us on these requests. I do I do is there. So this is this sort of Arcane procedural point an important one so you will be able to call those votes right. There's there is you have. That's that's not the case right in the minority in the house there. Is You have as minority leader. I intend to use them on on D. Two force votes at the very least force votes on these specific questions of documents and witness production. Absolutely and we're going to do a whole bunch of them so any Republican thinks they can escape having to vote on this matter. How quickly Mitch? McConnell tries to trunk eight trial doesn't know the rules. Do you think what what is the sense sense in your caucus about the meaning of this trial in the house You know we saw basically every frontline Democrat every Democrat representing representing a district that trump one come out in favour impeachment often with statement saying look. I didn't WanNa do this. It's with sorrow and doing this. There's a little less exposure. Frankly on the Senate Senate side just because of the way. The map works out next November. So how were you in the caucus thinking about what the goal of this trial is. What would be the benchmark for something that was well done and actually produced a just outcome? I E R bench our benchmark. Our goal is to get the truth. Let the truth come out. You know as Joe Joe Friday said on dragnet just the facts Ma'am that's all we want and we don't know what they'll be but we're willing to take the take the risk that those facts will not take the risk. We're willing to live with those facts. Whatever they may be? And then if McConnell and the fifty one republicans don't allow it to trial will be regarded as a sham to just have the house. "Aren't everything every everything at every level and the small business administration can put its loans out. So it has it. It has a cascading effect throughout the economy beyond the trash in the very visible signs of the padlock zoo. We're going to be seeing here up. But what's interesting here is that to the extent that there seemed to be a strategy behind this. And I think most people would say there probably wasn't a strategy. But if you're going to have a strategy about the shutdown, you know, one fact, which is that on January third you lose control of the house of representatives. There will be forty fewer Republicans in the house of representatives tomorrow than they are than there are today. This has been known for some time and the president in in following through with his threat of shutdown when he backed out on a deal that had been negotiated between McConnell and Pelosi had to be thinking about this date because if you've got leverage you've got it in the majority. That's when you have your guys, they don't have that. So if you thought Democrats would cave when they were in. The minority. Why would they start to cave when they're in the majority, and it's why in talking with democratic sources, they know with with each passing hour because now we're talking hours, they're leveraged grows. And it's also interesting to see the president in his many tweets over the last week. He's been hammering Nancy Pelosi over the shutdown, but remember Nancy Pelosi. It doesn't have any power here. I mean, yes, she is. Now as of tomorrow, she will be in a position to to really negotiate but up until now she's not in control. She's been able to bring legislation to the floor. That's all been Republicans. So if the president was hoping to get his wall that was his chance, and that window is you pointed out is rapidly closing. And we do know practically what we're going to see we know that House Democrats are going to put some legislation on the floor. That would keep the government up and running it would reopen the government, but would not give the president what he wants. And the White House already says, thanks, but no, thanks. That's a non starter that that plan isn't going anywhere. So even though you're seeing glimmers of progress like them talking sitting down at the White House today. You know, there is some legislate. Push being made, none of that seems to be heading towards genuine compromise. And it is to me a little window into the president's mindset at the start of this new dawn for his presidency because in addition to the Democrats being you control, you're seeing several of them begin to announce the presidential candidate candidacies, the twenty twenty campaign really began at at the beginning of two thousand nineteen with the Elizabeth Warren announcement, I'm with others that are likely to follow. So his mindset in this has been not about governing not about moving to the middle. Not about being chastened by losing. In fact, he continues to say that actually he's party won. Because they've got to additional senators, but about catering to that base going back to that base. And the idea that he's willing to engage in a prolonged government shutdown over a border wall that much of his party doesn't really care that much about and certainly the country. The polling was just doesn't really care about isn't the reason. Funk fundamentally, they got elected even though he ran on this promise that says a lot about his mindset, and where he is looking to lead such as it is in this in this new era, he's leading to the base. And remember that the Senate Senate Republicans did pass a plan that would have kept the government up and running and would not have funded the president's while they're not largely yet..

"Let's go to the floor of the Senate. Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell now explaining where they are in the process of trying to avert a government shutdown tonight. I hope Senate Democrats will work with the White House honored agreement that can pass both houses of congress and receive the president's signature. So college went an agreement is reached it will receive a vote here on the Senate floor. I moved to concur in the house amendment to the Senate amendment to the house amendment to the Senate amendment to HR six nine five. The motion is pending. Mr President the democratic leader as we said to President Trump a week ago. His wall does not have sixty votes here in the Senate. Let alone fifty votes that much is now clear Democrats have offered three proposals to keep the government open, including a proposal offered by leader McConnell that passed the Senate unanimously only a few days ago. We are willing to continue discussions on those proposals. With the leader the president. Speaker of the house and the leader of the house all five or necessary to get something done. Yield the floor. President. Senator from Tennessee is recognized as president I want to. Thank the two leaders Senator. Bob corker takes the floor. It appears that. There is no done deal. Just yet Mitch McConnell asking Democrats to support a deal that comes to the floor. But to Chuck Schumer making it clear, there will be no vote for anything that includes a border wall. Yeah. What they did there in the last few minutes was the Senate finally voted to proceed with the Bill that does include the border wall funding. Vice president Pence broke a forty seven forty seven tie on whether or not to move ahead with the Bill. Of course, it's not a final vote. But we'll see if that happens maybe later on tonight. What did they do? They voted to concur. The Senate to the house, and then concurred the house to the Senate something like that. Lots of concurring five fifty three it WCBS..

"Conversation with the press again. But the fact is is that at legislating, and which is what we do. Make your point. Case. House republicans. That there are no votes in the house majority vote for a wall. Exactly, right. Needed the votes for the wall in the house. I would have in one session would be done because we need ten Democrats. Let me ask you this just and we're doing this very friendly manner. It doesn't help for me to take vote in the house where I will win easily with the Republicans dozen help to take that vote because I'm not going to get the vote. The senate. Senate I need ten senators. That's White House. I have the White House. The White House's done and the house would be the motive I wanted. But I can't be nets. I need Ken votes. From let me say something. Factor in. I do we need. We need border security. I think we need border security. Here's what I want to say we have a lot of disagreements here. The Washington Post today gave you a whole lot of Pinocchio because they say you constantly mistake. How much the wall is how much of the wall is built much there. But that's not the point here. We've been disagreement about the Washington whether it's effective on border security, but on the wall. We do not want to shut down the government. You will call twenty times to shut down the government and say I want to shut down the government. We don't we want to come to an agreement. If we can't come to an agreement. We have solutions that will pass the house and Senate right now and will not shut down the government. And that's what we're urging you to do not threatened to shut down the government. Choice. You can't shut it down. Yeah. Let me say something mister president hugest say my way, or we'll shut down the government. We have a proposal that Democrats and Republicans will support to do a CR that will not shut down the government. We urge you to take it if it's not good border security. It is not good border security. It's what when you look at these numbers help the effectiveness of our border security. And when you look at the job that we're doing this effective. Can I be here? I tell you. Along. These are only areas we to have lost jackets effective. We don't have. One thing. I think we can agree on his wish them shut down the government over a dispute, and you wanna shut it down. The last time, Jack, you know. And then you waiting quickly. And when he don't wanna do what you did twenty times of called for. I will shut down the government. If I don't get my wool. None of us. If you know something you want to put that I'll take it. Okay. You know, what I'll say, yes. If we don't get what we want one way or the other whether it's through you throw military through anything you want to call. I will shut down. And just I am proud to shut down the government for border security because the people of this country don't want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country. So I will take the mantle I will be the one to shut it down. I'm not gonna blame you for the last time, you shut it down and didn't work. I will take the mantle shutting down, and I'm going to shut it down for border. But you shouldn't shut down. He's are only areas we wanna do walls, jackets, effective. We don't have it is not effective. Yeah. We've come in here. I branch of government. The legislature also. Very good faith to negotiate with you about how we keep the government open. We got to keep it if we have border security, we don't have border security. We're not going to keep the. And it's the same board you're bragging about what has been done by. We want to do the same thing. We did last year this year. That's our proposal. If it's good then it's good now. And it won't shut down the government. We could build up a notch. Let's debate in private felt okay? Let's debate. And let's debate in.

Point in time I've been doing this for fifty years I don't predict there's, no Blue Wave there is there. Will be some seats that will be lost as, ordinary is but that's mainly about the retirements we have too. Many retirements and these open seats but you're. Not going? To and it's all over the country it'd be a couple of seats in California A couple of seats there in which you're. Not gonna this is not a national. Election this person hold the majority Republicans. Hold the majority in both the house and the Senate I think the missed, opportunity we had plenty of chances. To pick up some Senate seats we make two, or three we should have picked up ten now I think. That he's only right there's no Blue Wave Yeah it is still very, possible for Republicans to lose the house and and, I don't want anybody getting a false sense of, security on that one that's possible I can do this math a couple of different ways and, the the the majority of them end up with with the Democrats. Take now not all of them not all of them. So I'm I'm I would still. Lean Democrats take, the house right now but I didn't Blue Wave is is not there. And I would lean ever. So slightly and this this is the end of August that. Can change the Senate Senate. Will stay in Republican hands and I think they'll pick up more than. "On these issues of a corporate tax cut uh republicans are absolutely united democrats are divided okay so good on the issue of support for israel republicans are absolutely united democrats are somewhat divided and this is not only good policy it seems to me that trump is grasping it's very very good politics to unite his party and to get all conservatives all republicans behind him i couldn't agree more i mean i think the report that's amazing uh i'll just do a shout out to uh mitch mcconnell uh you've now the senate senate majority leader i don't know how we did it you know it's hurting cats are really is pretty cats trying to get uh you know everybody in your parties agree i never did anything and you know to get all every republican in the senate to uh to both for this fell i think it was a great and and i don't always agree with mr mcconnell i consider my friend but i don't always agree with them but i thought he did a great job i must um and you know by the way on this optimism issue you know this some in some ways can be a selffulfilling prophecy you know you're if you've got a cando spirit you know it's like you know if you tell somebody yes you can write the spike you tell your girl you can do this you can do it you don't tell the cyberworld probably never going to be able to that despite you're going to fall down in skinnier knee and all these things and we see this in our business is look at the small business optimism index small businesses are now more optimistic about the future than they've been at any time in forty years investors are obviously when you see and when you invest in the stock market urine you're e that's a that's a sign of confidence in america in american companies that they're going to do better and that has been um a very it's it's it's really for me to talk to a businessman or woman uh whether they want us seo major company or you know a small neighborhood uh you know grocery store that doesn't feel good about six in america today.

"These justices because too much of it is political way too much less with the bar association with the senate senate is virtually all political you could have an astounding qualify judge and still be determined to be highly qualified in the senate will vote that judge down simply being a just on political grounds simply that and in many cases it is argued that the bar association whenever i giving a qualified mean obviously highqualified is in its own category but giving a qualified category ori not qualified it's more politics than anything else that's one of the reasons the trump association or the trump administration said you're done you're gone so are a little bit are after her that and i want to go in a little bit of a different tack is talk about how these judges are in fact investigated no federal judges are being put on a on the bench are hundreds of openings from what i understand hundreds and there aren't any that are going on the bench and why is that because of the politics during the obama years of course every single judge that was nominated had a rough time how many judges actually went on the bench during the obama years i don't think very many if any matter of fact that the republicans stop virtually all of them and now the democrats are stopping virtually all of donald trump's nominations sees tall politics and we're talking about federal judges may how difficult is a two run this country without a federal judiciary and so politics have come into play and.
