Def Leppard drummer recovering from attack outside hotel
"Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen says he's recovering from an attack earlier this month outside of Florida hotel. I Norman hall. Rick Allen, who was in South Florida to perform a show at the Seminole hard rock hotel and casino was attacked while taking a smoke break outside the four seasons hotel on Fort Lauderdale beach, police arrested a 19 year old man, but said they don't have a motive for the attack. Police said the assailant was hiding behind a column outside the hotel and ran at Allen knocking him to the ground, according to the police report, a woman saw Alan fall and ran to help him. The man then attacked her. He was arrested on charges, including abusing an elderly or disabled adult, Allen lost his left arm in an accident in 1984. I Norman hall

Gov. DeSantis: Water Levels May Continue to Rise, Even After the Storm
"Governor desantis earlier today had this to say cut three mister producer go Right now if you look in Central Florida you're looking at potential major flooding and orange and seminal counties St. John's river all the way up potentially into northeast Florida and Jacksonville the amount of water that's been rising and will likely continue to rise today even as the storm is passing Is basically a 500 year flood event And I know Seminole county has done evacuations I know they've opened shelters but we're going to see a lot of images about the destruction that was done in Southwest Florida And obviously we have massive assets there but people should just understand this storm is having broad impacts across the state and some of the flooding you're going to see in areas hundreds of miles from where this made landfall are going to set records And that's going to obviously be things that will need to be responded to So that is a really unfortunate but they're very lucky to have a hands on smart governor there I know governor desantis quite well He's a personal friend I knew him before He was governor when he was at congressman And I've decided at least for the time being not the contact him To come on the program I know others are having them on their programs And I think that's a good thing So we can get the message out But I've just decided to let him do his work and not to be one of those lining up to try and bring him on the program I hope you'll continue to be generous in helping the people of Florida who need our help The Florida disaster fund dot org Florida disaster fund dot org

And they're going to have exclusivity for the uninitiated. Can you explain exactly how much power they have in the state and how they're able to wheel the power like exclusivity a monopoly over it. Presumably here for a little bit. It's definitely going to be tied up in relation. Never soon i i love the symbol there. So bad ass are so bad ass years ago. I think it was with the governor. Charlie chris they basically every time they have a they're up for renegotiation on some sort of you know gambling packed with the florida legislature. They're so cool so bad ass like they just like. They made some deal with the governor. At the time charlie crist and they were they had sixteen. We're going to give the state. X number of hundreds of millions of dollars will get certain rights to a certain particular class of gaming. We're going to allow limited blackjack and to expand our our games and the legislature is like a cue. You have no authority as the governor to do that. So we're gonna sue you and stop you because we're the legislature has to go through us. We need to vote on it and they stopped him. They stopped the governor. And so the seminal said was like oh it's all good we're just gonna put this money. It's like hundreds of millions of dollars in a little lock box and a little fund little little glass booth that you know in case of emergency and we're just gonna let you kind of press your nose up against the glass and kind of taught you with it. Knowing the person's history. Medical history is what's far what steps to take. But I would recommend reaching out to your primary care physician first, and I know you've got the shortness of breath. I understand going to say, Of course, if you have the shortness of breath and you have serious signs, and you want to go ahead and call 911, But if you're not sure it minimal signs you can call your primary care physician get the ball rolling. "And at the collective level so one of the important things to know about. Indigenous gaming is that indian casinos are not owned by an individual. They're owned by a tribal nation so their governmental operations when revenue comes in too when someone goes in plays blackjack at the hollywood or tampa casino that revenue goes into the coffers of the seminole tribe of florida at the tribal council and it gets budgeted through irregular budgeting process. Like any other government would do so. It's not just like it. Goes into someone's pockets as an individual or a politician or anything it goes into the tribal coffers goes through budgetary process and gets allocated backout Seminal has balanced an approach that redistributes those funds to individual citizens of the seminole tribe. So that people can have economic security in their own lives on the one hand and on the other hand going into tribal endeavors things like economic diversification things that cultural programmes like expanding social services. One of the most consequential effects of casino gaming for the seminole tribe and many other tribes as well is that They were able to take back their own social services and shape them in their own image so they have their own health clinics. They have their own emergency response. Services their own schools All the kind of big questions people are asking in this country and around the world about what should government do and What's adjust way to take care of people. Those have been things. The seminole tribe have been actively and creatively engaging for ever since casino gaming started changing the revenues. That were coming into the tribe. Casinos have really changed The possible ways of living for not just individuals but for the tribe as government and that piece of it is really important and too often overlooked when people just focus on the dollar signs. How has the relationship you talked about this a little bit early. On when when when seminal try i got into gaming. How is the relationship between tribal government and the state government in tallahassee evolved. And how does the relationship here compared to the relationships between tribal governments and other state governments elsewhere when the seminole tribe started gaming The first approach of the state of florida was to try to shut it down and there wasn't ever serial relationships there for some the seminole tribe of florida. There's a there's some legal technicalities which we can talk about if we want to. That require tribes of if they're operating certain kinds of games to negotiate with the state in which they live. The state of florida for a long time was unwilling to engage in good faith. Negotiations with the seminole tribe of florida and in fact the seminole tribe tried to bring this all the way up to the supreme the supreme court case. Us supreme court case about the failure of the state of florida to negotiate in good faith as required by federal law..

"Follow here on South Florida's first news, Florida lawmakers of meaning in Tallahassee to decide on a new gaming compact with Seminole tribe and for the inside scoop on the deal, and all the politics involved. I'm joined now by the publisher of Florida politics Peter Shore. She confined him on Twitter, Peter Schorsch, FL and online at Florida politics dot com. Peter is always thanks so much for the time and let's start with an over. View of this special session. Why we're having one and the deal being debated. Why not? Who doesn't? It is a It's a monster of Ah, deal is a multi year 30 year. Multi billion dollar deal with the Seminole Tribe of Florida to ratify a new compact between the state and the tribe. Um, basically revamping the entire state of gambling in Florida. It will allow for sports betting. The tribe server. You'll be able to wager on the bucks or the dolphin on your phone. Do. The Seminole tribe will give the tribe additional games like we're letting craft will be able to build new hotel. It also cleans up a lot of the rules and regulations governing gambling in Florida right now what? You're very outdated. You know, it has its complicated regulations about when dogs and horses have to run so that you could have Poker room and what you have to have, you know, going on with simulcasting all these beard, Byzantine rules from basically, you know when thanks. Sinatra was around at the start up. And so they They're trying to modernize some of these very outdated rules there, so you'll get a lot of cleaning up of the pair of mutual industry. Um sports betting on it will bring in in the first five years as much as 2.5. Million dollars in additional revenue to the state could be north of that, because they will be paying the central tribal be paying for the exclusive rights to these other things these other games and that keep Casino gambling from expanding in Florida, like in places like South Florida. So this was a deal put together by governor to Santis. Correct and now he's trying to get the Legislature to approve it. Right. This is, uh, this is something that Rick Scott tried to do and wasn't able to do of multiple times because of what's known as designated player. Games appear Mutual's that three card poker, etcetera. Para mutual didn't want to give those up. The tribe didn't like that Those things were being played. So it was the metaphor that we always used in the reporting about. This is Lucy and Charlie Brown. With the football, we would think that there's gonna be a big gambling deal and at the last second Football would be pulled away. Charlie Brown in this case being Rick Scott, Rhonda Santa steps up. Want to demonstrate that he's a big deal maker. He's got extensive connections to Nevada and the gambling industry. You know, he just had in Miriam Adelson. The widow of Sheldon Adelson, who owned The Las Vegas sands and give me the definition out in Las Vegas. You got a lot of connections out there. I think he wanted to impress Some of that community with what he could do, and was able to put together a free deal with the Seminole tribe for the first time since currently Chris and it took Charlie Crist three times. You get a compact. So there is something to be said about what the Santis is, as is on the verge of pulling off right now. I'm joined by the publisher of Florida politics Peter Schorsch. We're talking about the legislative special session on gaming that's officially underway. So how likely is it that the deal gets done during the special session? I'd say 80 to 90%. Unless something weird comes up in the fine print at the last minute that we don't see, I think if you know, I think it's good to go in the Senate. It is a priority of Wilton Simpson. Who you know, he so He was literally on hand at the groundbreaking of the Seminole Tribe, New Casino and Hollywood in 2019. He's been a longtime friend of the tribe. So to speak. The House has been a little little bit more difficult, getting a compact through from or social conservatives in there that has some issues. Um they made a major deal on Monday to allay some of their concerns about Down the road, allowing for full on casino style gambling on computers and mobile devices. "Black and indigenous communities share similar struggles as marginalized people on turtle island that combined. History can be quite complicated. My next guest has dedicated much of his work. As an academic to thinking about these connections robert keith collins is an expert on black indigenous interactions. He's an associate professor of american indian studies at san francisco state university. He's african american and choctaw. And he's here to tell us about a history. That's a fantastic question. And actually we owe a lot of our understanding about it to a canadian scholar. Alexander francis chamberlain france as in in eighteen. Ninety one wrote one of the most comprehensive analysis that we have today and that was african americans and what we find in that study is that this is actually a history. His later colleague would refer to as the third line of colonization. We've talked about a european and native colonization. We talk about european and african colonization. Matt Gaetz associate expected to plead guilty in sex trafficking case
"Congressman Matt Gates, multiple All reports surfaced earlier today that Joel Greenberg, the former Seminole County tax collector and close associate of Gates, is facing charges for sex trafficking of a minor is in play negotiations. We know the Justice Department launched an investigation into Gates after first investigating and indicting Greenberg and the lawyer for Greenberg said today. You sure Matt Gates isn't feeling very comfortable right now. What do you make of that development? Well, you know, Ryan, it's something that any of us who are involved with the federal judicial system saw coming. Quite a while ago, they superseded the existing indictment on Greenberg. He was then violated on the conditions of his release taken into custody. And so now they have him where they want every several defendant and that's in jail and the only way out for him is to begin cooperating because his guidelines and fairly severe given the nature of all the charges that are pending against them, not just the sex trafficking charge and that one carries a significant penalty to it. His only way out now is to cooperate against somebody else and that somebody else Escape, and so gate should be very worried about what Greenberg has to say. He's a corroborating witness. He is according to everything that we read and seen a coconspirator in the activity involving the young lady who was under the age of 18. And so his testimony is going to bolster the government's case, and Gates is going to be looking at an indictment coming against him, and Greenberg's gonna benefit from his cooperation. Now I know
