Heaven can wait, maybe, but not a phone call for the pope

"Maybe heaven can wait but not a phone call from the pope in a decidedly unusual break from protocol pope Francis took a cell phone from an aide while standing at center stage in the Vatican auditorium for his weekly public audience France's chatted for a couple of minutes with whomever was on the other end like many people speaking on the phone the pope gestured with his free hand as if the caller could see him the Vatican declined to comment about the nature of the very public call Frances later waded into the audience to mingle with people who wanted to shake his hand or take selfies with the pope I'm Walter Ratliff

"You do you so we were on Hannity. Last night, Geraldo and I, and he tried to attack Ron De Santis, even though that's not what the segment was about, because he takes instructions from his leftist Masters, and they told him Make sure you attack Ron De Santis so you can take the heat off. Joe Biden has done a terrible job with the border and everything else. Keep in mind. This segment was supposed to be about the border. Um, Florida is not on the border with Mexico. I don't not sure her although knows that, so he's on the air, and he turns the segment magically towards Rhonda Santa's saying how there were 17,000 cases of coronavirus in Florida yesterday. He's talking about the day before because the appearance was last night. Well, That may be accurate. But that figure ladies and gentlemen means very little. What do cases mean? Why does it mean very little because folks how many people are dying or in the hospital? If you've been vaccinated from coronavirus, you may test positive on a PCR test set a low threshold, but it may not mean anything. You may not be particularly contagious Number one and number two. You may be showing no symptoms. So who goes to the doctor hospital to get tested? Well, people who usually you're showing showing some form of a symptom, or people who are going in and out of state building or business where they must and have to get tested. What I'm trying to tell you is giving the if prioritizing the statistics that matter with this later, Delta variant surge, the statistics that matter if you do science and reason which Geraldo dozen he takes nude selfies of himself, right if you believe in that What you should care about our deaths and hospitalizations. In other words, what impact is this having on people that because they have to go to the hospital? The health is suffering and what impact is having on people? If they die, God forbid. Not people who are showing very little to no symptoms at all. That's not what we really should be focusing on. You want to God your assets and your attention towards preventing hospitalization or serious illness. I

Perseverance Rover, Ingenuity Helicopter, and the Search for Ancient Life on Mars

"On April 6th in this desolate Martian crater 170 million miles from Earth. Perseverance posed for a selfie with ingenuity. The little helicopter it had just dropped off. Two weeks later. The rovers cameras recorded ingenuity is historic First flight hovering 10 ft. Off the ground for 30 seconds. It may not look like much, but for those who work so long to make it happen. It was a reason to rejoice. Project manager Mimi on led the team at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California that's been working on ingenuity for six years. How hard is it to fly a helicopter in Mars? Very, very, very hard. We really truly started with the question of is it possible? A lot of people thought it could not be done because it's really counterintuitive. I mean, you need atmosphere for the place to push atmosphere to get lived. The atmosphere on Morris is completely different than the world atmosphere at Mars is so thin. I mean the room we're in, right. It's compared to that It was 1% of the atmospheric density over there, so The question of really Can you generate enough lift, you know, to really build to lift up anything. That was a fundamental question. In subsequent flights. Ingenuity has gone higher and farther, traveling more than a mile in all over the surface of Mars. It is a triumph not only for NASA, but for its partners in the private sector, who helped make various parts of the helicopter. Don't Let it go. Don't freak out. Matt Keenan has a history of making unusual things that can fly as an engineer at a company called AeroVironment, which produces drones for military and civilian use. I mean, that's incredible 10 years ago for a military research project, Keenan and his team created this robotic hummingbird, which has a tiny camera on board. Whoa! Oh, there it is. Oh, my God. That's amazing. Keenan, an engineer, Ben Pipe Enberg led the AeroVironment team that created ingenuity is rotors motors and landing gear. Why was this so challenging because it has to be a spacecraft as well as an aircraft. And and flying it as as an aircraft on Mars is pretty challenging because of the density of the air That's similar to about 100,000

An Excerpt from Choristically Incorrect 2

"The service to charlotte singing debut ended with the head pastor acknowledging the choirs wonderful ministration. Who else thinks that. The choir sang exceptionally well today. Please applaud them. The congregation came alive with cheers. And i can see some new faces. Indeed god is doing a new thing in this church. God bless those who have chosen to use their talents to serve in his house. Turn and ask your neighbor. Wouldn't you serving god within his house. Charlotte was busily fanning her face. She couldn't afford her makeup messing up. Now she noticed some of the members glancing at her nodding approvingly. She smiled and nodded back. This was her moment and she was going to revel in it. You sang really well today. Frank complimented after the service end in. Thank you frank. I really feel fulfilled. I didn't know there was so much contentment and serving in church. Indeed that is why it is written at one day. In god's presence is better than a thousand elsewhere indeed. The bible doesn't lie using our gets and serving. God is more rewarding than the temporary applause. The world gives to secular artistes. Charlotte smiled in reply. She struggled to agree with that philosophy. The reward of being clapped for only occurs during services but the artistes enjoy acknowledgement every single day thousands of followers on twitter and instagram. Podcast Cover Art Tips

"You're podcast cover. Art is the first thing your potential audience will see when choosing your show. That's right this is how they go about deciding at your show is at someone else's show the ability of the arbor to grab the attention of the right people for your show determines the popularity of your show. Our work also conveys. What's your show is about. It tells people this is what you should expect on today's show and contributes to the find ability for future repeat listeners. So for the people that already decided they want to watch your show. The artwork is how they find it. It's how they go quickly sift through all the other shows and say. Oh yeah this is the one. I want to listen to again so this is what we're talking about today. This is why it's so important to think about the design of your podcast cover art and not. Just throw up something quickly. So here's a few lessons go through today. we're going to talk about. What is it that makes your cover art. Stand out to people who are trying to find something for them about. What's it about cover art. That helps people answer the question. Is this for me and also isn't any good so we'll go through some of those ideas but let's let's jump into it first off here cover. Art needs to help show people what your show is about. First and foremost it's all about context. You have to with your artwork in a very quick image in that one thousand by one thousand pixel square which on your phone might be as small as a quarter twenty five cent quarter in that small square. You've got to let people know what the show's about so that if they are looking for something specific you right. If your show is about technology your cover has to convey that with that little square image. It should be able to have a title. That's legible you can read. That says something that says this is a show about technology and it should have imagery that supports that as well that if you just didn't have a chance to read it you just glimpsed at it. You have a sense of the type of show. You're listening to. That's context and clarity as well clarity. Meaning that with that image. You should be very clear on what the show's not be about in other words if it's a tech show and you have it in the title but you suddenly have a bunch of baseball Imagery or something like that. Which is something. I've talked about with clients before though it might be a good idea in terms of how the style your style might be in the fundings. You wanna bring personality wise to the show. It's confusing to your audience. They don't know if the baseball show or tech show. Or if it's about tech within baseball like the simple things you do can be confusing so making sure you have clarity of message in the images you use as well as in your words using your title is important so number one you have to be able to convey what's it about what's your show about. That's number one thing that you're covering to number two thing. You have to answer the question. Is this show for me. So for example and your cover art if you have like we said tech show but that tech show is for beginners versus advanced. That needs be conveyed. You can use the word for beginners. You can do something with the imagery to convey that one of the very popular books out. There is the series of books that says you know such and such for dummies. It could be investing for dummies. It could be technology for dummies or powerpoint for dummies. That series is very effective. Because everyone that sees that that brand in that title knows this is for beginners. This people starting out where we're gonna we're gonna cover the basics. We're gonna understand what it's about so identifying what your show is about in your cover art was number one number two is it has to convey is the show for me because if not i'd rather sign up for the show that is and it's okay if that means you're sending people away because you're saying the wrong people away they're gonna stop listening anyway and they might be a little mad you trick them into listening to your show for you know ten seconds and then they turned it on. This wasn't what i thought it was at all. So you have to. You have to have clarity that not just in which a shows about but also who. It's four so is it for me. Is the second question year coverage at answer. Another example of this is sometimes. It's not just for beginners or experts. Sometimes it's for a specific group of people like this is for like we have a marketing shows ca. That marketing could be for anybody. But if you say for entrepreneurs. I'm sure those lessons could be applied to anybody. But you know that who you're speaking to when you're talking like i'm specifically can gear all my personality and ideas towards this set of people because that's where i wanna help and though the content might be applicable to everybody the people that you're hoping to have as customers know that you're specifically talking to them and it just helps you with the conversation but conveying that in the cover is something that's gonna help you bring more people in that are exactly for you. Get number three things number one was what's it about two is number three is. Is it any good now as i can imagine. You're probably wondering how is a square image of my show going to convey to people that this show as any good but think about this. If you have to chose to choose from and one shows cover art is an obvious like someone took the phone with a selfie with an iphone or whatever. It isn't a took a selfie of themselves and they just added a label of the texts that says the show title with no other editing. And you compare that to a professionally. Graphically designed show that in other words it had an image was taken by a professional photographer. So it's crisp and well and the lighting and color is correct and the design of the background is well thought about. it has a prominent color palette. It has text that the font was obviously designed in a way that stands out you. Add all these elements together. You're gonna say okay. Well obviously one show was an amateur show and the other one's a professional show you might if you're looking for that kind of ice choose more professional show. Why is that well. Because if you're looking for help with something especially for the expert type shows you're going to be hopefully going to someone who seems like they put this together in a thoughtful way as opposed to a hobby right. There's plenty people start podcasts as hobbies. That's great but that's gonna come through and your imagery and if that's not your intention then you need to think about how my designing the show. The packaging matters just like a book cover for a book if it is just some andrew on it with cran wrote the title out and put it on the bookshelf versus a book that was professionally designed as a cover. People will judge that people will judge the book literally by its cover

Hands On Review of the Fujifilm X-E4 Mirrorless Camera

"When the xc four was announced. I thought for sure that i was going to buy it. After my review period expired. i looked at it. I go man. That's a good looking camera Had a lot of the features that i wanted. And i just go. I cannot wait to get my hands on this handsome little devil. It's controls are familiar. Because they're very similar to the x one hundred v that i have right now super compact cameras even more compact believe it or not then the x one hundred the the image quality. I was very confident that it would be solid and then on top of everything else. I really liked the revised twenty-seven millimeter f two point. Eight lens that's bundled with it. Nice little pancake lens. Compact camera interchangeable lenses. What could go wrong right. And my thought was since. I have enjoyed the x one hundred v so much. This would give me an interchangeable lens. Fuji film camera that i could play with fuji film. Cameras do great with adapters and lenses from other brands. And all that kind of stuff. I'll talk a bit more about that. A little later in the show but for right now it suffices to say that if i had that twenty seven millimeter. Nf i liked it. I've got enough other lenses that would fit on it that i could be a pretty happy kit but it isn't perfect. Either and the more. I used it the more that some of those blemishes began to appear. So i have my personal pros and cons of share them with you. I have a verdict. But before we do that let's get into the basic features of this camera. The basic specs so that we know what we're talking about here. Okay so it is a twenty six point one megapixel. Aps see so as crop sensor x. trans Sensor that is six two four zero six thousand two hundred forty by four one six oh resolution as the maximum resolution that you can get out of this camera. Nice big files. I i like the size of the files and generally speaking. I like the way they look. It has an x processor. Four image processor so. It has the state of the art image processor for fuji film. This is one thing that fuji film does that a really. Like which is they don't they. Don't downgrade that stuff under the hood you know. Rather you're buying their flagship or are you buy this or buy that. You're gonna get the best processor that they have available at the time. I love that about them. You get four. K video at thirty frames a second and you get full. Hd up to two hundred and forty frames a second. That's very nice. It has a lovely electronic viewfinder two point. Three six million dot I found it very comfortable and easy to use. I liked it a lot in. Its over on the left side. Okay so it's kind of a range finder style that way. A three inch tilting. Lcd touchscreen and this touchscreen is designed even more flexible than the one on the x one hundred v. Because no he can you tilt it downwards it can hold camera up over your head it tilts up in fact it tilts all the way up and over one hundred and eighty degrees so that you can use it as a selfie screen and take pictures of yourself or whatever you need to do there so that is an addition and the screen works really well. It's an excellent screen and the armed seal solid I know some people have expressed concern about the ribbon. The communications ribbon that is exposed when you tilt the screen all the way up. I don't see that as a problem. It didn't really bother me. Plus is not a weatherproof camera anyway. So you're not going to be shooting in the rain with. It

"Someone else's android phone went off. Danjus jump out of your skin. It was it was. I froze and I took a second. I'm holding that like that red Shopping basket and I was just looking. I'm like do I have it with me. I thought I left it at home and I'm checking my hand but I'm checking my shopping cart checking pockets and I realized just you know the guy shopping next to me how to text message. Come in I I am I am. My heart was racing. I was having heavy into that. Was like okay. Yeah this is this is to have that kind of like you know Pavlovian response was was certainly telling. Well I think we do. Get those clues those clues that like we have unresolved trauma. I I was talking earlier in the episode about how this week. I had a number of health appointments in one of the things that I had to have done was trans vaginal ultrasound. Which is when they stick the wand. You know up in your vaginas to that. They can get a better look at your ovaries and when I was going through. I had seven miscarriages. He ate I had a lot of miscarriages before I was able to carry a pregnancy to full term and it was very very traumatic for me but when when I was going through that time they would always give me transactional ultrasounds to try to find the heartbeat? I have so many memories of having those types of ultrasound and then they're not finding anything right right and so I'm not there for I'm not pregnant. I'm not there to find heartbeat. I don't want any more children and yet you know. The experience of that transitional ultrasound when she started I started crying and it was just that like moment of me of like. Oh I've got some work to do here like I. I have not fully healed from this. Because just this sense memory and I'm right back right back in feeling that like you know out of control feeling of like. I don't know if I have a living baby still or not. And then just and then the disappointment in the morning and yeah that's that's so triggering totally so you know. I think just in terms of like what you know for listeners. Who were like yes? I think I have. Ptsd so now what First of all physical activity is huge for post traumatic stress disorder. Because we don't do hold it in our body and there is a lot of research that shows that even like really difficult It's something that they call heavy movement. Meaning like you're really you're pushing something you're punching something you know. You're kicking something. That kind of like full body movement is really good so not just like an easy stroll. No I mean that's helpful too but I think there is something to that sort of like you know almost aggressive movement. If if that's something that your body can handle and then there is the therapy called. Em Dr. Have you ever done amd are I have done? Amd are and I did it? really to kind of walk through some childhood trauma in it was intense. It's intense it was. It was intense to the point. Where just you know this is just my experience in I. I certainly would recommend MDR but there was a bit where it Kinda had to get worse before. I could get better for sure. Yeah I was having like just lots of I was having a lot of nightmares. I wasn't sleeping well so I had asked my therapists. Can we just schedule some of these appointments back to back like rather I would rather crank up the oven to six hundred in bake the cookies in half time? I know that doesn't make sense but you know what I mean. That's that's what I needed in. That actually was helpful but in like it was a it was a rough couple of weeks because I was. I was sorting through some heavy heavy stuff. But yet it really opened my eyes to like. Frankly what you mentioned before Steph. I had completely forgotten about a member would come up. I would say Whoa WHOA. Whoa Ho last-second just had this memory and it was a traumatic membrane. I needed to work my way through it and so it was. Em Dr is intense but in one woman's opinion while the helpful. I mean it is shown to be the most effective therapy for post traumatic stress disorder. So what am? Dr Is sounds so Hui but you sit with a therapist and they use some kind of an apparatus to create a sensory experience that moves from the right side of your body to the left. So some emt our therapist use a light box. Where you're watching a light move from right to left some used buzzer that you hold in your hand that you feel the buzz. Move from right to left. Which when did your therapist? Different did the buzzing Like I use an IPAD. Now is following like a bouncing ball. Yeah Okay Yeah so. Just people know it what it is. It's I movement desensitization and Rapley Reprocessing reprocessing there. You go right So yeah it. It sounds really weird but the science behind it is that it's moving your brain from the right to left hemisphere so you are processing things with both your right brain and left brain so it's it's engaging your emotional recall but it's also engaging your ability to process and think logically which we oftentimes can't do both at the same time. Well it's interesting because my Compared to like do you ever have an issue that you don't quite know the answer to and you've you sleep on it and you wake up and you're like okay. Yeah now I Kind of like your body naturally at night anyway but I just. I just remembered I was going through. Emc are like five five years ago in you. And I were at a conference together and I was. I adjusted on the tail end of some. Amd are and. I was not sleeping. Well I think it was like two in the morning. I texted you and I was like Kristin. Are you awake having a hard time? And it was just because I did that thing where I'm like. I know a therapist. Let me just let me just texter. She's she's probably at the bar. I'll go cry and her shoulder probably was awake. It was a corporate. Oh my gosh well. It's so true I mean and I will say this. I bet this is not a therapy that you should make like a nine. Am appointment and then go work for the rest of the day like you wanted to this. When you have a whole day clear because but I you know I would liken it to you know. Let's say that you had a broken foot and you're walking around on that broken foot and it hurts all the time kind of low grade right but the only way to fix that broken foot is to have a doctor reset it and the resetting is going to be really hard and really painful. But then you're not going to walk around without low-grade pain anymore. Leg right that's kind of what? Emt are is it's like it gets in there and fixes it and it's really hard but then you have so much freedom after that's such a great analogy but yeah to your point I would have stood scheduling. Amd are appointments for late. In the day I would actually go have dinner and then Thomas often bed because all I had the capacity to do know exactly so yet. Emt ours are really effective therapy. Obviously talk therapy is also really good. You know if you if you if you are sounds a little cookie which it is for some people. Some people really don't like it but you know so it is it is cookie but like I mean is it fair to say it's backed in science. It's completely backed in science. Yeah I think what feels cookie is because it can look a little bit like that whole hypnosis trope that we grew up with Dr Holding. You Know Stop. Watch in front of you. This shifting from right to left but that is not what is happening but it can look like that. Yeah or feel dot. Yes yes I totally understand because when you're like I'm just GONNA keep my eye on your bic stick while you move it left to right away. I I'm paying. How much for this exactly but it actually it was it for me and just totally profoundly helpful. Yeah and then if anyone is dealing with PTSD and just you know for whatever reason you can't afford therapy you can't get in. There's a really good workbook. It's called the complex. Ptsd workbook Amman. Body approach to regaining emotional control You know workbooks. There are some amazing workbooks for mental health. I have to say that can be effective to do on your own for people who for whatever reason it cannot get into therapy. I actually would love that book because I have not. I have actually gone through any workbooks ever but I keep seeing them on Amazon and Barnes and noble. So I'd love to order that one for me. Yeah and then I cannot. I have not read this myself but I did. Just buy it and I'm looking forward to read it. But but that book the Body Keeps Score Brain mind and body in the healing of trauma. I mean I cannot tell you how many friends have recommended it. It's funny if you look at Amazon. It has almost four thousand ratings and five stars. Oh Okay Yeah I'll have to order that today. Yeah so I'm looking forward to reading that one because I feel like that's going to be like A. Oh come to Jesus for me who we will continue this conversation in the Selfie. Facebook.

"Bottle and it just feels very luxury is funny. He said I love good packaging and there are times. There are times where I don't want to buy something just because the packaging so much quick sidebar. I liked doing facemask but any how people will go. Oh facemasks night in. Take a picture and put it on instagram. I refused to do it. If that mask is black I just. That's fair I have such a hard time with it because I know that it's just a charcoal mass right but I feel really weird about it so at this point I yeah I just. I just don't share anymore. I think that's wise. Maybe the green masks guys yes. Yes like those weird sheet masks that make you look like a sociopath. Yeah my thumbs. Up is okay. I discovered this thing and I am so excited to share. But I'm afraid that people are gonNA think it's too weird. It's I like a well groomed eyebrow but I don't like it like over grooms you know I I did that. Thing back in two thousand three right just whacks. The nonsense my eyebrows and now we all regret it so either. I don't like Phil into much like I don't do that. Dark powder y like I don't spend a lot of time on it but I love to brush my eyebrows in so I read in. Read it this idea of instead of using an eyebrow Gel something called soap browse and I know this is going to sound super weird but lately I have been taking a Barak Sope just like a simple like Dr Bronner's or for me because I've been traveling just little hotel borrow y'all and either Spitzer just drop a little bit of water on it. Shake it out. You don't want it to be so you just want to be damp and then I rub a clean spooling on it and then I brush my my browse and it stays at it. Looks Amazing it's so fluffy and not to perfect or you know and it's an so I just I I like. I like the feeling of brushing my eyebrows. Which is maybe some weird. Asmar thing but I like I live now I kinda keeps bullies lying around and a bar of soap and my eyebrow routine has become a lot cheaper than it used to be so interesting. I never would have thought of soap. I often spray hairspray on it. And then you know rub it across. But then they're kind of crunchy. Yeah now this is like it's like a just a little bit waxy and sometimes still do like a little bit of a pencil. You can't overdo it otherwise like I start to look a little like Santa Claus because then my eyebrows turned white but otherwise just regular. Yeah so proud. I think there's like a brand called so browse to see. You could buy some sort of weird kit but but you're saying works. I any bar of soap. You have around and go nuts. Love it and then the other thing is. I know like ages ago with light blocking glasses like the blue light blocking gases were big deal like we were all spending an absurd amount of money on these like the worby Parker light blocking glasses I keep finding them for super cheap now so anytime I find the for under twenty dollars I just by a few because I noticed usually only have my desk for what. I'm staring at a computer but I find now that they're actually really helpful. Even if I'm just sitting in bed like looking at my phone just helps take the strain so I have been buying them. I've become like I don't know I shouldn't say I've become one of those people. That just always has a ton of readers hanging around like I should have one on a chain around my neck So that's been my my. My new truth is keeping light blocking glasses around okay so I am literally wearing them right now. Light blocking glasses as we speak. But I need to find are your readers and your light blockers separate glasses or do you have any combos so I actually don't need readers and yet you say well. I'm sure that day you're done. Yeah that I'm sure that will come soon. Yeah 'cause I that's my issue too is so on my desk. I have readers I have light blockers and then I actually need glasses for distance vision. Threes SUPPER GLASSES. So you need like a really cool hybrid. I know I do actually do but then no because I don't WanNA use my readers when I'm looking at my computer screen right. Ooh rights just when I have to read a package or a menu anyway. Well maybe someone will come up with. I mean we. We can put a man on the moon out. Yeah we all right time for a listener question with Claire. Claire is our beauty expert at Selfie. So Claire I guys. Here's your question someone asked. Where's the best place to go for skin-care recommendations for my skin and face.

"I want to be real clear like I have some amazing neighbors and then I have some really awful neighbors like awful awful and you know you win some lose some Sir Sir. I like the idea of bringing food. I am admittedly a very a- terrible cook of Harbhajan really. Oh my gosh it is. It is such a struggle and I think part of it. Is I find it really stressful? So here's I don't know how to I never make Bacon. Well like for some reason. Just even simple simple tasks like watching tutorials on Youtube. Were like looking at any step by step recipes. It's it's it's a struggle so I do not cook for people however I will get groceries delivered to them. Yes that I can do. I am really good at ordering online. We'll did you know I actually just did this just this week. You can door dash to someone else's house yes so I- door dash to a friend who lives in Canada like that's awesome. Now they were they were under the weather And so that's kind of a fun thing now is like used to be that the people who could bring you the casseroles metaphorically but also really you know when there is a birth or a death or hospital visit or what have you used to be just local people now. It's like you can do it for people who live in another state. Yeah I was Weeded Camille train for someone who had a baby I you know. So many of us didn't live in her in her area. So we just it was like Uber eats or like a get a gift card to support local or. I'm just going to spend money to order pizza. Which I think is a really nice way to still because the online community is so big and sometimes you know. Sometimes you have to foster community online as well even if it's not even if it's not local I talk to you and I'm on the other side of the continent so totally. I mean most of my closest friends. I'm not local to and I will say this. I mean I you know I have to give props to our Selfie facebook community because it's I think that there's some real community care going on they're two totally and I what I like to that. I think it's been a nice a nice place to come where you can ask a question or start a conversation. And there is there's no real boundaries or parameters. You know what I mean like. Nothing's too weird totally. I completely agree. Yeah and I mean unless you're talking about gas in which case that's offensive. In that case he goes straight to vomiting so totally. I knew I think I would say you know probably a big takeaway about humanity care though. Is that something that you have to invest in when things are going well you know that you know I? It's like you have to kind of pour into it. I almost think of it as like a bank. You know like you kind of have to pour into it when times are good To benefit from it when things are hard which is really when. I think we need community care of the mouse. So it's like to me it's like I'm I am thinking of like how. How am I serving the women that are in my community when things are you know when when I'm because we all have waves right we're all we all have the times more on the top of the wave and then inevitably the times when we're on the bottom and it's like am? I serving when I'm on top of the wave so that when I'm on the bottom someone's GonNa come around side me right. Yeah you know in the middle of some of these Relief sort of hectic in a high stress days. I had a friend. Just text me to words in. It was just welfare check. It was so nice actually struggling little bit and just a check in like that I found so touching you know and it might not maybe we all have different needs than it might not do much. Maybe one of someone else might would rather have the the burrito delivery right but It was nice to just know. Okay this person's thinking about me concerned about me and that's the one that I can just kind of like if I if I just say hey. I am struggling right now. I've just had a really stressful two hours or facing this big thing happening this afternoon. It's nice to have that I don't know even if it's via text message that community. Yeah I completely agree and I think sometimes too. It's nice to take the burden of planning are thought of other people if that makes sense so like rather than like hey you know we wanna make a meal train for you like tell us the nights until you know. Tell us the foods. It's like just do it. You know right. Let people not think that's been so helpful for me in the past? I know you know I mean even like if someone makes an appointment for me it's like oh I don't have to think about doing that. Like they made the appointment for me. It is honestly. I think it's like alleviating the the emotional burden or the optional toll and even just helping minimize decision fatigue. Gal is huge huge age. Because that I'll get caught up In like I just need to make a decision needed no extra. Why and to have someone kind of saw that for me is such a gift totally well. We would love to continue this conversation over ourself Selfie facebook community. We would love to hear from you guys on how community care works for.

"To me. Isn't watching me do this and pull off my shirt and I'll be in a sports bra and I will hula-hoop to like an episode of Brooklyn nine nine. I love that no and I. It doesn't it's not crazy where I can't like I can do it for ten minutes. I'll continue attendant break in like hop on a meeting and I haven't gotten super sweaty but my heart rate has spiked a little bit. And it's so great for my core and it's not like a big piece piece of equipment where you have to like Miller invest in an electrical machine. I'm just and sometimes I do it in my living room watching something. I'm like hanging out with the kids. I am just Hula hooping and I look absurd but my kids like it too especially where we live. Sometimes it's cold and icy outside. You just need to get some energy out and so like. Hey Hey take my hoop. It's fun so sorry I would never have thought of that. Yeah and it's it's. It's a decent enough workout where my watch will say. Oh it looks like you're working out and I'm like yes I am. I feel I feel really smart about it. That's really fun. Okay do you have the two pound one of the three pound one. I like the three pound one. I mean it depends like I. I don't have a problem with hooping like my mom tried it. And she is like. I don't understand how this works so that it's just like a regular hula-hoop I like a little bit of weight on and and there's not much of a difference between the two. I've tried both so I would just go for the three pounder. We know hooping is like a whole thing like there's a whole culture around hooping and burning burning man and like I have a friend who got super into it and she really gotten crazy shape just from yeah hooping all the time. That is not gonNA be my life. I don't like it enough for Gee I wish I could today. It's like a nice. You're not going to go join the club right right. I'm not going to start painting my face Jason and doing like a lab routines but it is nice for when I'm like I need to do fifteen minutes of something and I don't have the time to run to the gym or it's raining or it's freezing saying or whatever and so I just hooped by myself Honestly it's incredibly Dorky and I'm in my. I'm in my office hooping. I just think you're like a month away from a big flow hippie skirt and piercing your house. Maybe I will. I will do an instagram. "I'm so happy to be here. Kristen thank you so much for inviting me into this space. During the season of the Selfie podcast really looking forward to our conversations together and bringing some of these topics to the forefront and seve if we can't get to some answers together about these different crises in life that people have been asking about. I really love the Selfie community so grateful for the Selfie community our facebook page we have gathered together some really amazing seeing people and built a beautiful safe community where people are engaging in conversations about things. It's really the only reason I on facebook anymore and it's the first thing I do when I get to. FACEBOOK is go to see what you're talking about. What questions you're asking what you're looking for? I don't think there's anything off limits and I love love that and I want that to be how we approach these questions and answers as well. I don't want to be anything. That's off limits. I want you to be able to bring every question without shame and and we'll dive in and try to get to some answers together. Some of you may remember that. I've been on the show a couple of times in the early days as guest for Sarah and Kristen That for the rest of you. I wanted to start with a little bit of an introduction. "I think that would be interested interested interesting and I would love to talk to someone who travels like you know almost every week and and figure out like how do they manage or maybe they are still stressed all all the time. I don't know that would kill me. Travel stress every week. I now I I would have to adapt really quickly. I would. I know I guess you. Would I guess you just naturally would. What do you have for two thumbs up for us? What are your recommendations okay? I have not been sleeping well and I have no idea if this is just placebo effect. ACT But I've been using these CLOVA. melatonin patches I hate sawing pills a really. I get to the point where I just collect bottles of really cool instagram vitamins. Because says I don't ever actually swallow them so this is a patch that I peel off. I stick my body and in theory it does. It's Melatonin magic and I fell l.. Asleep the one thing that I like about it is. You're supposed to put it on about an hour before bed and become a trigger for me and I go okay. Yeah it's time to wind down and get out of my work clothes and shut down the computer and that sort of thing so that's almost been late. That's that's probably been half of. It is remind ritual down. That's right Oh and my second thing is i. I imagine that this is the same for a lot of people who have like a complete the WHO are on a computer a lot or on a phone a lot where they get a lot of tension kind of at the base of their skull or their neck is describing my body. Be Right now and I can't go to the chiropractor everyday organ massage every day as much as I'd like to so I found this is called the A DAVINCI she was and it's basically it's a tiny little tool. It's maybe the size of I don't know a a Mug and I lie on the floor and I kind of Tuck it right underneath in the back of my head and I kinda just rest there in your your head. It's right at that Forgive me for anyone who's super SCIENC- a digs right into the except Muscles and I just lay there and I listen to chill music and it's like ten minutes of just kind of lying on the floor and it's like a little massage for my anakin interest. All that pressure it just. It's it's magic. I like it so much that I now. I bought one for my suitcase so I can have on when I travel. It's so it's almost kind of putting you you in a little traction. Yeah I think it's kind of like this little you're always. I'm always kind of leaning over. Head is tilting down and it's kind of just making your head tilt the other way. Oh Oh yeah that's right and it also feels like you know when you get massage and they hit that one spot and you're like Oh yeah Jim on that it's like someone's just jamming on that for ten minutes screen. They need one of these. Yes yeah I have that exact tension like so bad exactly like I like I can't I don't have the time or money for these massages. You know that would probably fix it right. Yeah so it's been it's that one has definitely been a game changer. For me to the point where if I lost its you know something's really important to you. If the second you he lost you'd immediately have to buy it again and that's one of those things for me that's awesome. That's awesome well. I one of my news. New Year's resolutions have has. I've been to drink more water and so I have done all kinds of watery. Things which sounds sounds so boring to talk about how I'm like making water more exciting but I got one of those burkey filters and I got one of those giant obnoxious jugs that you like Phil with all your water for the day and you drink and drink and drink but I found another thing that is making me more excited about water. So have you ever had alcohol alkaline water. I have not but I read about it a lot on the Internet. So what's weird is actually not super sure. Sure why alkaline water is important other than like you put the p. p. h. right but I really liked the way it tastes. I really early like the way it tastes and I've had different companies. Send me like bottled alkaline. Water for me. I've always been like well. I'm not going to drink bottled water right like first of all the plastic second of all the expense not interested so I just found this Filter it's called go filter and it's like a little I would say it's the size of like little Tom's case or like the size of a little bottle of essential oils with small. Oh Yeah Amy. It's tiny and it's got all of these little beads inside of it and you put the beads inside the water and it turns the water alkaline and then they have one that turns the water alkaline line and then adds magazine magnesium to the water which magnesium is supposed to be really good for stress and for sleep and so instead of taking a supplement. You're actually infusing thing. It into the water and one little capsule is supposed to be good for seven hundred fifty refills so about three months for about three months. You just take the Phil Capsule Reuse it every day for three months. Pop it in there and it like suttles the Ph increases of your water and gives you minerals electrolytes. It's a magnesium so kind of cool and it's thirty bucks so for three months. I mean it's a lot cheaper than bottled water. Yeah that sounds great for. If you're like me Dan you hate taking pills to totally. Yeah exactly. I didn't realize that alkaline. Water tasted differently. You're telling me it tastes better. I really like the taste. Yes it does yes. I think it tastes better. I can't explain it it just tastes like there's a mineral taste to it that I really like. I don't know I will have to check that out too. I mean I don't think the taste is the general selling point. This may be some weird thing that I have. I've never seen anyone talk about the taste but nonetheless I like the taste. Yeah and then I. I'm a big candle person. I love candles data from when I light a candle which. I don't actually do that often but when I do it it really feels like I'm like totally taking care of myself right now. We're just Kinda lame but I found this. New Collection of candles are called scrumptious wicks. They are homemade by a women business and they have the best sense they have the woman who runs it. I believe she's Indian and she has all the sense like Indian monsoon Chai Mango Law. See so like just a lot of really fun different sense. And I'm a huge fan They have one of Ginger and saffron. I'm a huge fan so I'm like super digging. Her Chai Candle right now. I love Lighting a candle when I take a bat hat not just because of you know the the light gives because I usually. I usually take a bath in like a dark dark bathroom but I just find there's something about the ritual of Ah leading a candle and like leaning back and taking a bath that feels like yes like. I'm taking that box. That self care about. Oh this is this is the stuff yes it does feel that way and I love centered. Catholic said is just so nice to like when you walk out of the room and come back and you're like in my house. Smells like anthropology. Yes I do love anthropology smell for sure. Well I do too. I actually have a lot of those candles as well. There's one in a jar and they always have upbeats around it. It's the jar when Capri Blip. Yes that's the one. Yes so I get those pretty much for every gift. Everyone knows I love them. I have a bit of a stockpile. "Is a patch that I peel off. It's right at that Forgive me for anyone who's super SCIENC- a digs right into the except Muscles and I just lay there and I listened to chill music and it's like ten minutes of just kind of lying on the floor and it's like a little massage for my anakin interest. All that pressure it just. It's it's magic. I like it so much that I now. I bought one for my suitcase so I can have on when I travel. It's so it's almost kind of putting you you in a little traction. Yeah I think it's kind of like this little you're always. I'm always kind of leaning over. My head is tilting down and it's kind of just making your head tilt the other way. "Of my life well. Let's listen to it. Sarah so many questions for you to talk to you. First of all dying talk to you about your recent Laguna trip and specifically the laughing yoga you posted on your instagram probably the most uncomfortable herbal forty minutes of by lifetime forty four years so I was in Laguna last week working with visit Laguna on a project that is rolling out this summer and I have to be all kind of hush hush about it but I was experiencing some things things Laguna had to offer and one of those things was laughing yoga now which is so peak Laguna Laguna so peak Laguna and you probably if you didn't notice and the instagram's stories like half the people are wearing tide. Is it not no no right off main beach one of the little coves I. I knew this was happening. I was informed they were I got kind of my call sheet for everything and I looked at all over and I said Yeah. This all looks great. They're laughing yoga though I might start crying in the midst of it and they're like yeah. You're going to have to do it so it starts at like eight. Am and we walk down down the beach and then I see them. All I see these people in They're very happy. They're very happy happy to be alive. Hey I kind of I I. I was feeling the energy. I had no idea what to expect and they're like okay. So what we're going to do is like we do these series of exercises where we're laughing and at first it's going to be you know you're going to be fake laughing. You know it's just GonNa be so just like ha ha but then you actually do start laughing and I'm thinking like I just the whole time on like personal. Hell Personal Hell Personal Hell. Please get me out of here. So we start okay guys first off. Let's walk the dog and like so we're like pretending like were miming that were like my Dau-. A dog is pulling us. The the miming is worse than the laugh yes. That's yes worse so I'm like faking like pulling this dog and laughing in in them and that one was actually okay because there wasn't like interaction but they're like okay. Let's go around and everybody give high fives to each other but miss so I'm. I'm walking up to me this Zine ater so zany but the best part was the people that I was on this shoot shoot with are just standing off to the side just that because they can tell how uncomfortable I am I mean I'm I'm quite I can can be quite the actress and it was like probably it was my it was my hardest acting job to date. It was first of all it sounds like an Improv Improv class. Yes a little bit yes and it also sounds like a scene out of waiting for Guffman. Oh yes it was these people will just these people are on a different level. I just I it's I. I don't know exactly what level it is but it it was unbelievable and I kept on looking over at the people I was with like giving them like laughing but giving them the I like. you better outta here right couch. Oh yeah so it just went on and on and on but I will say there does come a point where you are laughing. I wasn't laughing because I was gleeful. I was actually just laughing at people but it was a genuine laugh. I was laughing as hard as I could add. These people like rolling around on the ground doing happy baby. I mean throwing peace signs. There's so many videos that my friends captured of this. I'm going to have to send you more actually I. I would really like these videos to be made public. I will put them on a Selfie facebook group these videos because it was insane. The best part was thankfully One of the people on the shoe came over about thirty five minutes in the like. We are so sorry. We are on such a tight schedule. We're going to have to pull Sayer outright now. Dislike the tears. It was the weirdest thing but it's been going on for decades and Likud Yoga Traditional Yoga Koga involved now or is that more just to name. I don't know why they call it yoga because there's no yoga poses no stretching no. There's no I mean it's Improv. It is a laughing offing Improv class. We did some slight stretching. We warmed up before like you know reaching to the sky turning on the way looking over over our shoulders. That was the extent of the yoga part but I will say my abs were day. They hurt so bad. I actually did get aid an AB workouts. They were like super sore so I mean if you're looking for earn Aba workout and like I just I don't know who I can suggest this too. If you obviously if you have no hang-ups submit just acting like a complete freak but I do have to say if you can I will put a link in our show notes. It's pretty important to look at the corresponding videos that I post it to our facebook. Community group usually leads to really league seal in what's happening visual AIDS so we will linked to those okay well L. I I it was hard for me to choose favorite moments because I have many and I have to say I struggled not to just choose all of the any Graham. I'm conversations that we did way back in the beginning because I loved when we talk through. We talked with a different ideogram number each week and I loved that but I'm going to go a little fluffier. No Pun intended for my one of my favorites. which was our pubic hair discussion? uh-huh oh you or not you know so interestingly enough. This is our are most popular episode to date. It is really WANNA talk about pubic hair and we provided the forum and I feel proud of that got so let's listen to that little clip. I did not know this about you. I have the exact same problem. Exactly the same like I literally cannot shave. My Bikini Line becomes a razor. Burn bumpy red mess. Yes and I think this is true for a lot of women. I think it is that's a waxing or you know all right. Let's put it out. I got my laser off well. I attempted and we're GONNA get to why it didn't work for me because it's mortifying but talk okay. You know why it didn't work. I do know a guy is hi so about this is probably seven or eight years ago. I was so sick of the razor burn. I was so sick of having to pay to get waxed. 'cause waxing is in plus. It's is just uncomfortable. I you know it is so i I someone told me about having laser hair removal so I did my underarms. They got rid of that gone like I haven't had to shave underneath my arm for eight years so wow oh yeah girl. It's it's the best it's the best and so anyway. I was like well. I'll just go ahead and do my bikini line but then I just did a little bit more. I don't know I just yeah. They took a lot of hair off the laser at a lot of hair off and it took everything off like it's all gone. There's a little bit left. I didn't I did not WANNA. Go completely lately bald because this is really uncomfortable. Why did I decide. What am why. Am I talking about this right now. God I'm really embarrassed but sir. It's just going to go on the Internet yeah. It's about it going to go on the Internet. Okay no no I didn't because we'll just you know this is a whole another topic we could talk about at some point but just the whole no hair at all and the ties to you know that became ame really big with Internet porn and then the whole looking prepubescent thing that just totally it kind of rubs me me the wrong way. No Pun intended but just you know I don't know so. I didn't know if there is something to that well. They don't want us there. Oh No I know right because it's like I think I mean I think historically it was there for a reason back when we were not able able to be this much or we wear as much clothing you know cavewoman probably wants her pubic hair there right but for me and while I'm admitting fully really that I was influenced by cultural factors to start removing it. At this point one hundred percent it is it is comfort for me. It is ah that I just prefer the feeling of not having pubic hair and now that I consistently remove it. There have been times like I use clippers which will get to in a minute okay but there was a time when my broke and I was like waiting for my next Amazon order of them right and so I went a a couple weeks without were things kind of grew back and I was so physically uncomfortable yeah not mentally I didn't you know I don't care how it looks just like I was aware of pubic hair like walking around through the day like gotta get this off well. That's the thing once you remove and you're you're used to that particular feeling yeah if it comes back it's it's uncomfortable. It is and you know it's funny because when you have laser removal done it's not for your lifetime overtime things start growing back a little bit which has happened just sparsely which is even almost worse like what the hell's happening weird heard. It is your like how great so this is brought up a conundrum for me because either are what what needs to do is go back and have you have touch-ups done but I got into the habit of getting waxed the summer because I didn't and I said before I will not touch razor. It just is bad so I was like whoa either. I go get laser removal right now or I go get wacked so then I started waxing again this summer and doing a full Brazilian so I tried to do laser which I have to say was laser painful for you. Sarah it just felt like rubber bands kind of like if someone were to like snap you with a band yeah over and over and over and over all aw I found it very painful people have said it's not but I thought her mother yeah obviously places that you're getting it differs. I opposed to getting hair removal on your back or your legs or something. It's you know you're doing it in a very sensitive spot so does have you. What do you have attached. You know okay just for anyone out there. It's not as bad as a tattoo any means but it kind of has that same yes I can see that and milder okay so I tried to laser my pubic hair a few years ago. I decided I was sick of you know now clipping which is what I do. I use really I don't have a guard on. It is really close. Clippers pay and I just got tired of doing that and thought I'm GONNA laser like why don't I do this. Why haven't I ever done this so I went to six sessions of laser found it excruciatingly painful and I did not get good results and I finally said to the lady what's going on here and she said you know I think we're running into issues because so much of it as Grey Oh God so that's exactly exactly what you want to hear in your forties. I'm sorry you're pubic hairs to Ray. Oh God I'm getting older a love it. Today's episode is.

"Pig is well we are talking about sex today. And you know, what I gotta say based on the comments that we got both in our selfie podcast community on Facebook. And I offered people to DM me. I mean, it was a flood of comments on sax. There were so many comments, which I guess really isn't surprising. You know, it's not it's not it's not. But sarah. I think this might be the first of many composts on this topic. I think that you're right. Kristen can I also say that because I have like the sense of humor of a fifteen year old. Boy, I did think it was really funny that this is the sex episode, and it's episodes sixty nine number sixty nine. Amazing. I was looking at the note on this is episode number sixty nine and we did on land guys Sweden plan or a junior higher. I am. Okay. So junior high the sex topic. We're talking about this week is low desire. It's not wanting sex. So we're going to get to that in a minute. Although again, I do think we have seen that y'all wanna talk about a lot of sex topics. Yes. So many topics. Let's just is this going to become a sex podcast. Maybe. I'm kind of okay with that. All right. Well, let's do a quick update. Sara how have things been going on your end in the self-care department. Well, I I almost made it through dry January. I did it. I I was really proud of myself. I didn't drink till the twenty fifth. It was my mom's seventieth birthday celebration. I only had one glass of wine and Gary wasn't even that enjoyable, and I was like, oh me hoity toity. Like, Ooh, I am so special in my quest for no alcohol in January, but then like on the twenty ninth or something I kind of like took down like a half a bottle of wine with dinner. So generally, I only drink twice a dirty journey. And and you know, I just I like I like to have alcohol in my life once in a while it did feel good to like stop for awhile. Yeah. But I didn't really I don't know if I was expecting to reap any benefits, but in general my mental health like win the toilet. My skin looked like I was a sixteen year old hormonal teenager..

"Party Christmas Eve, we go to brunch with friends. You know, it's that's my week. We'll see I I would not be able I would not be able to make it through that. And and I don't mean that in like an overly dramatic. But I'm serious. I would not I don't. Tune either people I love, and I desperately wanna be at these things. Well, you know, if you desperately want to be there, I guess there's like no other choice, but for me, my stress and anxiety, always manifests in physical physical symptoms. So it's not just that. I'm feeling overwhelmed or I'm a little bit. You know, nippy with my kids, and I'm just kind of irritable. I will actually get sick or something we'll start hurting, and I will it. And so I finally got to the point. I was not always like this about saying. No trust me. But at this day and age forty four years old. I'm to the point now, I'm like, I don't want to feel sick on Christmas day. And I'm right. I keep doing all of these things leading up to it. I most definitely will. And it does suck. And I don't want to hurt people's feelings, but the more fluffy type parties, I don't I'm not really that concerned with right? Lots of people. No one sitting there going why isn't Sarah here. Right. You know? No, one cares. And it ma- it might be that I'm really getting rid of the fluff. I because I still want to make it to the things that matter to me I have to like cut all of the fluff out to make it those. I don't know. It's just I wish I will do more. I wish I tried to do. 'cause I knew this week was kind of like the mad of social, right? And so what I have tried to do is. I tried to finish my work. So that I don't have to actually work this weekend or all next week. Yes. Which I want to also say that I totally recognize that's a privileged not afforded to every night because I work from home. I can't imagine. How people do this? You know, if they're in a nine to five that doesn't give this, you know, I know this time off I know I would be falling over so I'm gonna try to take, you know, take off. So that during the day, I'm not actually doing anything other than prepping for these parties, both, you know with food and then emotionally. Doing some heavy meditation. No. But yeah, I know, and I and also hate that. I sound like I'm like stressed intact by part. Like, I don't wanna be that person. I hate that. No, no. I don't wanna be that person either. And I probably sound like the horrible person right now. But but it's I mean, the anxiety is really there's a there is a post that went viral. I think it's a couple years old. It's by someone named Laura Lynn fanning, and it's to the moms of Little's during the holiday, and she says this, and I've really loved this. She says you need to say no right now even to yourself when you want to do something fun. If it makes you yell. It's a no, oh, oh, which I'm like, oh crap. Because idea I can get in that place for sure, but I will say by that criteria. I should not take holiday photos with the children. That's the beginning of. Yes. But then she says, you know, listen to the only person who expects you to accomplish all the things on your list is do you have to extend grace to yourself. You can apologize for showing up with the grocery store cupcakes. If you want, but you don't have to say sorry for Tuesday your kids in your sanity over perfectly piped butter cream icing. I just sheet it's such a good post will link it up in in our. In the selfie podcast community on Facebook..
