"But I think that it's great that we have a league to watch. Although, like I said, I think some people would make the argument that maybe we should get this figured out first and then worry about basketball and everything else. We'll see what happens, but hopefully they can hopefully it does not explode out of control the way that we saw a year and a half, 18, 19 months ago. Yeah. I want to this is my last question, then I want to move on to actually talk about basketball, but the all star week, I'll start weekend is still a couple months away. And usually that's a time when players go on vacations and leave the country and then come back and it just seems like that would be a particularly dire thing to do potentially in terms of just living getting yourself exposed to contracting a variant of COVID-19. Do you think the NBA should even have all star weekend? And I'm not even I haven't even mentioned bringing people all these people together flying them into. I think it's an Indianapolis this year, I think. Indianapolis has a bunch of games this year between that and the football title game. Is it Cleveland or is it Indianapolis? Actually, you're right. It's I'm almost positive it's Cleveland. Good call. Okay. I'm almost Cleveland. Either way, we're flying to Cleveland, bringing everybody in there. Is that such a smart thing? Such a smart decision right now. What are your thoughts on that? I don't know. And last year, it was really controversial that they decided to do it. But at least when they did it, it was Atlanta. It was kind of bubbled off. I don't think, again, I don't think Cleveland is talking about doing that. If they are, I'm sure they're not excited about doing that. So I think you have to kind of wait and see I was kind of of the opinion that it did not make sense to do last year and was critical of that. I thought it was kind of jarring too, that it was in Atlanta, a lot of us were friends with Sekou smith. Who passed away and worked out of Atlanta. And so it was just kind of like who had just passed away from the virus and was one of the most well loved well liked reporters in the league. And so it just felt kind of empty to do that. You know, I get the league, let's just be honest. Let's keep it a buck. The league never wants to throw away opportunities to generate money. They were willing to kind of play the season. A month and a half, two months after it ended in October of 2020 to start another season, even though people vocal as big as LeBron, were saying, no, we don't want to do this. And the leagues, the league was kind of cautious about it at first. And then they kind of went in for the kill and said, look, we're going to lose a quarter of our money this year if we don't do it. Do you guys really want to do that? And they start playing hardball through that sort of messaging to the players..

I think it's all hack trash. Made to stoke your anger. May to stoke your fear made to divide us because it benefits their ratings in their bottom line. It's separate that from journalism Because I attended a journalism school and I got a lot of pride in what I learned and what those professors demanded. And what my school in my degree defined. Got a lot of respect for that, because a lot of it came from the tenants off. What? These three guys that we just lost. We're all about. Don't make the story about you. Work your sources. You make sure it's right. You double check that it's right. You don't go with something that may not be right. And you try every single day to do the right thing in telling the truth. Dress paler Pedro Gomez and Sekou Smith embodied that They were journalists. If you still think it's okay. Wear a T shirt that says Rope tree journalists, some assembly required. I would encourage you to think about these guys careers because my guess is if you're a sports fan, you know all of them, if not one or two of them, and you're familiar with their work, and you probably never had a bad thing to say about them. My guess is Nobody that is listening right now has ever had a bad thing to say about their reporting. Their journalism there pieces their interviews, Nothing. Would you still find it? Okay. Walk into their house. Knowing that their families are grieving and that you had worn a T shirt that said Hang them. Hang them all. It is part of what's the most corrosive part of our culture today. Is that we have distanced ourselves from the people that we view is enemies and said to hell with all of them. And thought and said, and reflected really terrible ideals towards them. We've been led there by people like Curt Schilling, or like people in cable news, or, like politicians that have stoked those divisions in flames for their own benefit. Personally, I don't take it personally. But what I think it's it's wildly disconnected from reality. Journalism, actually. His vital good journalism is absolutely crucial, and the people that do it really well should be applauded and honored, admired. Not Trashed, ripped down or threatened simply because of their profession. Prez.

NBA: John Wall scores 24 as Houston Rockets beat Russell Westbrook, Washington Wizards

"John wall scores twenty four to lead the rockets over the wizards one zero seven to eighty eight lee big takeaway from well. It was a pretty close game until john. Wall really took over the last seven minutes. There hit a couple of shots made some plays and and got his victory now. Coming into this was a couple of story lines of course beal and and john wall would teammates here in washington for a lot of years now. Their relationship didn't really end in a hostile way. It was more just like the team moved on. So john wall was more trying to prove a point to his team. In the franchise and the wizards rather than ex teammate there. I in bradley bill. And then you also of course you had wall and russell westbrook who were traded for each other just prior to the season and now that one was a little bit more spicy. But i think that's probably more westbrook than in the us both on a minute restriction but yeah i mean it was. It was a close game but The the rockets pulled away in the end. And really i mean i. it's post game. You saw bradley. Beal who had another good performance for the washington wizards just looking completely distressed on the sidelines. And really the question. Out of this game is we've been kind of asking and alluding to the last couple of weeks. Anyways is does bradley. Beal stay with wizards for the rest of this season. Because they going nowhere right now. He's putting up right numbers. There's no question. He would be in demand and i think he needs to move on from the wizards as well. So you know. That's that's probably the biggest talking point. I think coming out of this guy because you know it's it's not neither seems really a a threat to was. The rockets guess could make the playoffs but Certainly not a contender. So it's really just do. The wizards hit the reset button. He move on from bradley. Beal may even move from westbrook if they can get a first round. Pick out of him because I just can't see this thing going anywhere for the remainder of this season. Yeah every loss. That piles up there for the wizards trae. It does feel like the echo chamber gets a little louder with the trade deal. Save bill get him out of there. Hey beal ask the front office to move you. There are three in ten now. they're one in eighteen games. Westbrook has played. He has not looked great. He was He was just visibly upset last night. And then you started talking. Some trash with wall was given it back to them and walson after the game russ has been kicking my ass for years. My third win against russell westbrook that he's been in the league this john wall talk it so i don't know if it's any more than that just a frustrated westbrook but yeah what do you think about the idea of will be just like go to front office. They do not want to be here. Because i don't want to be on a team. That's not going to be a playoff tournament in just signed that huge deal though right like he's still got two seasons after this one the westbrook in wall donnybrook. What happened there Westbrook goes by wall walls down and it seems to me like he was basically saying yeah. I tripped because you could see westbrook saying back to him. It doesn't matter what matters like as he upset is wallops at that. Westbrook is trash talking him for tripping over his own. That's what it might have been. They hit him with the double tax. And everybody just moved on. But if you're bradley beal despite the fact he's got this huge deal still on the books to be frustrated man because he had twenty five through the first three quarters and then in the fourth quarter it feels like he's not even getting the ball like feels like he's barely getting a touch. I know he had eight points. He took a bunch of shots but there are times when he just doesn't even get a look from westbrook he'll just be standing at the top of the court. It feels like kevin durant waiting to get the ball all over again. But i don't know you kind made your bed now sleep in it.

"Before n ba dot com And you've seen him on MBA TV as well and Sekou. Was one of these really special people that It wasn't a bad word to say about him. Everybody loved him. Now, let me tell you in a petty back biting, insecure world that a sports media or everybody goes out. He hasn't belonged there. She doesn't belong in that job or should deserve that. He deserved that. Or I could be better than that. Can't believe how much they get paid. Nobody ever said that about Sekou Smith ever He was positive. He was opinionated, but he was well read, and he had very good reasons for his opinions. He wasn't a hot, take artist. He was warm. He got to understand players. No players when you asked him if he could come on the show, Sekou almost always said Yes. And when he didn't he did not ignore you. He told you I can't do it because of X wires. See? This is a very rare commodity in today's sports media world where people just ghost you they don't text back. They don't respond to emails they make up whatever or they just think that they're too good to do it or whatever. They're too busy. There's a million different things. Sekou would either either say yes, which is 80% of the time or explain why he could not Saeko also belt built relationships all over the sports world, not only with athletes and coaches and administration people but also with other sports media members. Sekou was just a really bright shining light. And yesterday when people learned of his passing, there was a real outpouring of emotion on Twitter. And if you want You feel good about what? Somebody contributed in just 48 years here on Earth Scroll through Twitter today and see what Sekou Smith meant to people or go on. Read any of the pieces done by Yahoo or n ba dot com. Or ESPN about Sekou because they include so many touching tributes from other people. We just touched a lot of people in a really positive way, and that Is the positive here. The negative here is that covert 19. Has taken another life, and all of the hundreds of thousands of them are devastating. And it is a reminder that for the people that dismissed this or tell you it was never that important or for the people that somehow gloat that it wasn't as bad. See, I told you Here's a reminder that we should all take this very seriously. Okay? Does not mean that you need to believe everything that you read or hear because there is hysteria in media these days. And it happens on both sides of the political ledger both sides, which is why I tell you do not watch cable news because it does not matter if it's Fox. If it's MSNBC if it's CNN if it's O A N if it's Newsmax sorts, whatever they ply their trade in getting you Upset. Day or looking to make you angry or scared, because that's why you would watch for longer. If they told you everything is great. You would turn off the TV. If you had told you. Everything is awful. You'd keep the TV on. Don't watch it. There are plenty of people on both sides of the aisle that ply their trade in hysteria and history is not good for this. Where's your mask? Very simple thing. Do this every single day with everything that I do unless it's outside or nowhere near anybody, and it's annoying. Fogs up your glasses. It's hard to breathe. Sometimes I'm walking through target for 45 minutes like boy get real sweaty under here, but I do it. Not only for me, but for others as well. Take it seriously. Do your part. And let's try our best to be better about this. Because out of all of the cases globally of covert 19 America has a quarter of them. So we're doing about 1/4 of the work. Of A quarter of the work rather off everybody in the world. That's not a great stat. For us. That's a pretty bad points allowed per game Stat for us. Sekou Smith was amazing. Was amazing guy. He joined us here on the show so many times over the years. Sekou had some great conversations here on the show, and I will always remember them and always, really, truly. Remember them and Respect them because he was just He was a great guy to talk basketball with, but a great guy to talk about everything with and so I want to play for you. Some of his Best moments here on the show in a tribute to Sekou Smith, who we lost yesterday. Just 48 years old. D a. With that man. How are you? I'm great man. It's always good to catch up with you. And what is it personally about Damian Lillard, where he finds it so important to stay in Portland and defend his turf there. I've been 11 has to do with the fact that he's playing the league where you know you could. Anyone. You could look at the number of McDonald's All.

No doubt you encountered Sekou Smith, who was most recently of n ba dot com and NBA TV and also love the Freedom of the Hang Time podcast that he recorded I think it was weekly on and he was such a huge fan of Kobe's and the impact that Kobe had on the league is one of the conversations that we had multiple times. Over the last year. We talked to say coup in May when I was still working at home, and he was, of course, working from home in Atlanta, and we talked about How are families were getting along and adjusting to this isolation? This quarantine period, but also remember how adamant he was at the embassy would return and finish it season and producer Dave went back to our conversation and may toe get a chunk of that because I remember hearing say, who talk about why it was so important for the NBA to crown a champion in 2020, and I could still remember thinking. Wow. I actually didn't consider that perspective, so he was very thoughtful. He was genuine. He loved his job. He loved hoops. He took it with a grain of salt. It wasn't too serious. It wasn't life for death, but he enjoyed it. And he loved the daily stories that would unfold on the court and off the court. And if you haven't seen social media or you weren't watching any of the MBA, or any the coverage on Tuesday You missed not only tributes to Kobe Bryant, his daughter, Jonah and the others who perished in the helicopter crash a year ago, but everything from The sentiments of commissioner Adam Silver to Dwayne Wade too many in the Atlanta market, including the head coach of the Hawks, even to Chris Paul. Talking about. You know how they always appreciated dealing with Sekou and what? Ah fixture he was in the industry and how he never had a negative across word to say he always smiled. And when we talk to him in November with it was Thanksgiving week, and he joined us because Clay Thompson we didn't have the confirmation yet. But Clay Thompson had blown out his Achilles when he was practicing in Los Angeles. And at the same time there were rumors that were just being generated about how James Harden wanted out of Houston and wanted to go play in Brooklyn. And remember that we spent some time just comparing notes about family and how we were surviving now getting toward the end of 2020 with the holidays and his three grown kids, older kids not not completely grown kids but kids that were with him him and his wife and their in their home, and he mentioned how much he appreciated the extra time he had with them, but at the same time We joked about the fact that neither one of us knew anything about Tic tac and never wanted to spend time on Tic tac. That was actually something we joked about it may that he had had this whole introduction to Tic Tac, and he'd realized how un cool he really was. So we had such a great sense of humor, too. And even as I write my CBS sports minute, I'm thinking about Sekou and wishing that I could have one more conversation with him. He passed away on Tuesday and Fitting or not. It's bittersweet that it happens one year to the day after the loss of Kobe that also rocked the MBA.

"Freddie Fitzsimmons on ESPN radio and hate to bring this down a little bit. But We lost another one. The MBA family was Sekou Smith from NBA TV passing away the age of 48 early today from complications due to covert and just cute. Just seen so many people whether they knew who didn't know him. Just saying so many wonderful things about this man and I had plenty of experience is talking with him and having conversation with him on and off the air. What is it about Sekou Smith? What was it about him? That has so many people going, man. This really stinks losing somebody like that. That was so key in the NBA and outside of the MBA. Because when it is, I mean, you know how it is in this industry and everything Everybody are isn't a good person. Everybody doesn't have good good things and have have the best interest in mind. But from from when I was a player Whenever I met and experience and got interviewed, or Del would say, cool from basketball, toe media type person of relationship, he was always respectful. Hey, was somebody that I felt they did. If I had he was gonna keep my words in context, and he wasn't gonna create his own story. He was gonna be straight up and down and stand up about that, and he was a great journalist. And then these last two years, man, I had the opportunity to actually be part of the Turner family and be working there. Turner and I've been on MBA TV with him and just in the back in the in the clubhouse hanging with him and get a normal talking to him and learning about his kids and his family and his wife and man is just one of those people is just a very, very good Person to connect with. Everybody did that Everybody can converse state with that Everybody talked to wit and, you know, I was able to pick his brain about transitioning into that road. They didn't do it, and they got burnt in game one will find out if they make those adjustments for Game two and kind of get too serious back under control. But if not, you know they're going to face the same thing that everybody else down here has There's no home court advantage is no home crowd to care. You know emotionally you're gonna have to play. You have to get out there on the court, with everything flattened out. Everything exposed. And show us if you're the better team and you're gonna get tested, and if you don't pass, those tests would be packing up to leave in the bubble. Oh, no, that's exactly what we've seen in this. I was really impressed with P. J. Tucker yesterday to me. The Lakers really struggled with those kind of scrappy guys. I think I like Patrick Beverley and how he's sort of that Disruptor. I thought that's what P. J. Tucker was yesterday. I thought he was fantastic against 80. No, he was and he went in knowing that he's got a history of playing those guys. I think we also need Thio. Remember about the bubble is if it's done nothing that stripped down all the outside stuff, all of the creature comforts of home. All of things you might be used to. This is just pure basketball tournament. It's nothing but players in a condensed environment. They're watching every game that they're not playing in no secrets. Somebody's gonna have a tactical advantage going into a game. You know what to expect. And it's a matter of can you execute about Houston played harder on defense. But they will more assignment driven about their more detail oriented and that will burn you down here. I I've been watching these games from the start, and I'm The thing I'm appreciate more more. It takes an immense amount of stamina and discipline to play the game. A certain way to be is mindful that you have to be on both in the floor to win in this environment if you're not up to the task. You will be, you know, bounce out of here. I don't know. It doesn't matter what you eat it. It doesn't matter what your regular season profile is. You come down here and you're not prepared to play at the level the grind that you have to have To stay around until the finish. You're going home. That is Sekou Smith. He covers the MBA for MBA dot com. He also Temporarily resides inside the NBA bubble, Sekou It was really good talking NBA basketball with you, man. Stay happy. Stay healthy in the bubble really appreciate you coming on today. They're not appreciated. I appreciate you as well. Stay happy. Stay healthy. I've been listening to Jim as long as you have not been listening to talk radio have been driving trucks for over 30 years. And that's what I do all day, and I'll be honest he has including yourself, Obviously why I'm on the phone today with you the best fill in hosts of anyone I've ever really heard in radio, not only sports, but regardless of any of them. The only thing you know, I got a chance. The last time you were the host, though, to finally sit and watch an episode. Normally I'm driving and I was able to watch you. And I was fascinated. I thought, you know, with the pandemic the way it's going on. Everyone wear masks and being very careful about how they sanitized things. I said, Look at look at Brian. I mean, Jim's gonna have to literally replace that micro. You hang on to it like it's Ron. Jeremy. Tryingto party. Kelly. Thank you so much. Roger me. Appreciate the phone call. You were great for about 95% of it. And just so you know a team of scientists and has Matt suits come in and make sure everything is sterilized. After I leave the studio, This is my P popper wind screen as we say in the business. Jim will be just fine when he returns from vacation, and I'll try to back off the microphone. I just have so much to say, and I am thrilled to have the ability to expand the conversation. Let's talk MBA with a gentleman who I enjoyed chatting with over the years that Sekou Smith, check out his fine work on MBA dot com. Senior writer for the website Sekou Brian Webber with you. How are you? I'm good, Brian with them. I am as excited as you. I think as to what we've seen from the bubble, So let's just try to sum up without getting into the details. So far, the overall level of play that we have seen in the Sunshine State because I figured coming off the exhibitions. There would be a learning curve and Yeah, baby, They're spent some sloppy moments with too many turnovers in a particular game. But overall, I think the MBA has been fabulous. So far. How about you? It's been much better than I expected. To be honest with you. I wasn't expecting the scores to be this. I wasn't expecting the bowels. Could be this plentiful, But the the overall level of basketball has been better than what I expected. I was thinking the players would have a hard time finding a rhythm after being off as long as they were. I'll speak to, you know the level of professionalism in the fact that he's the best in the world, guys. The best at what they do, and it's taken them. You know, less than a week to remind everybody that you think about some of the performances we've seen so far, people that didn't know who T J. Warren was before they started certainly do now. Devin Booker in the Phoenix Suns have shown themselves to be better than their record was supposed to be. It's just It's good to have basketball back and it's really good to have it back at this high level. Chatting with Sekou Smith. You see about MBA TV. You read him on MBA dot com. Okay, Sekou, let's go around the bubble. We know next year is the summer of Johannes. But it almost feels like heaven. Durant set the precedent that you could have multiple summers devoted Tio Ah, superstar So, with Goddess not able to Get the free agency for another full season, whenever hopefully when we finish next year's N BA campaign. How big of an opportunity is this for Milwaukee this year, given the limitations of the supporting cast good to get Eric Bledsoe back yesterday, but the one reliable names on that roster is Chris Milton. Let's say you, goddess. Who I think is gonna win. His second straight MVP is able to win a championship with this supporting cast. Couldn't the bucks come to woman say yes. Go through the free agent process, But we have the opportunity now to build a dynasty were going to get you more help. Why would you go into place and leave Milwaukee? Here. Listen to bearer to win this championship this year. That would certainly be my Peace. Be honest, you know is that not only have you already done what you set out to do here, we're going to do it. Again and again with a team that's specifically crafted around you. You know what kind of hand picked supporting cast? Chris Millican is an ideal number two. But I'll be honest with you, Brian. I'm watching these teams and its instincts seeing them all in the same venue. You know, in the same property playing the you know and competing, and then you watch them day after day. I'm feeling like the books aren't as good as I thought they were. And you know, in the 60 plus games we played before the shutdown, Andi and maybe it's the nature of you know, the.

"Take this Thursday Friday, we're thinking the show of the road. It'd be in Nashville as you're going to be awesome. As we hit the road for the draft presented by the Wrangler performance series, Branka performance series, a collection jeans and pants, featuring a comfort flex waistband denim that flexes for comfort Wrangler performance series triumph pair today. All right. Let's get back to the NBA and some of the issues you what I were flushing through before. It's trying to get some answers some guidance in perspective, whatever it is. But I mean, these these post game press conferences for some. I it's turned that amateur hour. It's it's it's ridiculous. Sekou Smith is covering the league. And he's has been for a long time. And he's back with us longtime guest the show Sekou taking Tierney. Welcome back. How are you today? I'm good gut back in Oklahoma City last night. I was proud. Actually acting like a grown up. Very engaging. Yes. Yes. He was very thoughtful that it said, we're response. Colombia's to this because Tiki raise the question and before he answered I truly pause, and I thought about it. And I think he might be might be better. I don't know would almost be better. Just not that him speak, but by extension than others would have a pass and not have to speak. Well, what's better kind of acting like a dog and pony show? We're not saying anything at all. How about you show them just act like a propriety here yet? But it's not that difficult guys. You know? MBA players have been doing this generation you do you five minutes. Ten minutes get out of there and go on with your life. It's not that hard in the scrutiny that comes along with the playoffs is well established. So roughest sitting with with Trimble is is something that goes back years, and it just festered in and became an embarrassment for everybody involved. Somebody got through to run over the past few days. Least acknowledged demands you know, that the man was asking him questions. He didn't answer them. Very well. I mean, it's not like you gave him some questions answer. He just a couple of hours, but at least. Did we lose Sekou? Okay. Example, everybody guys bring him down. Let's we're gonna get Sekou back on lines. A little choppy there it cut out for sake. Basically what he was saying. If you if you didn't catch the end of it is that at least it was Gordon to say step in the right direction. Yeah. Kinda gave him the makings the beginning of an answer. It's interesting though, because I want to ask Sekou, and I can't wait to get them back because you just came back to us. But do you think this is informative about russes Russ in general, and why sometimes he's I know? Radic on the court because he's kind of a Radic off of it at times as well. You think that is there is there a connection there might just kind of making this up? I listened. I I was talking to people from the thunder over the weekend. I was there from Friday until this early this morning. They love the gap. He's he's beloved, you know, in the organization in the community. So no, it's not there's no, you know, nothing about him. That says Radic when he's not with us. Yeah. You know, that big this is just kind of his she'll, you know, somebody told me that they've talked about this over the years about how he got to let his guard down to being so, you know, of tied around and media, and they said, he just won't have it. He feels like he has to have that veneer up to protect themselves from a media that he thinks has been unfed him not he joined the NBA, but since he was in high school, and he wasn't getting attention. He thought he he's gotta get a grip, man. He's gotta get a reality. Check here say co he's completely warped if he thinks that because. There are a lot of guys who when you wear that as your armor. And that's the thing that chip on your shoulder that is driven you, you know to become the player. You are. It's I understand it's hard to let it go. But at some point you've got to grow up, man, you you got to grow up in and move on. Yeah. And the reason Sekou Smith is with us here on Tiki and Tierney, the reason I say what I say is. I mean when he was playing for Ben Jalan. I mean at UCLA he was treated I mean, I didn't I haven't California. So I can't speak to the day to day. But being a huge college basketball, consumer my whole life. Russell Westbrook treated pretty well by the national media. So unless I missed it, which I don't think I did, you know, he's he's he's using his motivation. I guess you can't argue with the results so far it just seems odd. He's just I dunno. It's we could beat this to a bloody pulp here's the bottom line. He's change. He's thirty years. He's a grown man who's great player, although a Radic a little flaw in terms of how you know reaction little bit with certain. Things but he's not gonna change. Right. Just easily is. Yeah. Look he was the last guy to get a scholarship in his class UCLA. You only got us out because they lost somebody. I get the story. I get the back story. What I don't get is why you would carry that all the way. Now at thirty years old when you've got I mean, I've got a great life. He's you know, he's he's the center of attention in that community. He's got you know, got a great lightbulb court. You've got a MAC contract. They built the organization around him. You know, you got to look at the guy competing against debut. Little got a similar story where he gets you pitch me thought he deserved had to go to Weaver state, you know, to make his bones to get in the league. And he's he's ultimate professional handles it in a completely opposite way of rough and it works great. Yeah. I mean, I don't I don't know. I don't know. Why wouldn't adopt? Change contemplate making some changes. Yeah. And look we still don't talk enough about Damian Lillard and his Portland trailblazers team. Which is about the go onto the next round. And okay, see, which will likely who must they win three in a row be knocked out in the first round for the third straight year. But let's talk about Portland briefly. I mean, it feels like after two years of being swept out of the out of the postseason the Portland kind of has it figured out a little bit. And we we thought after the big injury that they would be kind of stunned, but his Cantor's turn into pretty decent fit for them. And obviously Dame is stepping up. How what's the reality of Portland making a run here to get to the to the finals or the Western Conference finals at least. I mean, I know Charles in the guys on inside of talking about them believe in Portland has a chance to make the final. I think that time Bishop. Yeah. But the way the bracket setup they they have a very good chance to make the conference final. It is really about them being introspective and understanding what they're short comings were. Indeed Patsy playoffs up here. Now. Swept by an all time. Great warriors team. Nobody's mad at you. Yeah. But gets wet by the pelicans last year was beyond the pale. And I think they learned from that they understand that. If great is Damon CJ art together they've gotta have other guys play. Well in last night out Peru. Camino was great. I mean just perfect role player filling in, you know, the empty spaces when they needed it. And if the bout Terry stotka understand is roster. They've had this group together for a few years. Now, they know what they're getting. They know how things are going to attack him. And there's sound what they're doing counteract whatever you're throwing them. And I think that's been the biggest thing is just knowing who they are in turn the light on themselves as opposed to worrying about outside circumstances. The chatter the other team and everything else that could derail you at this time of we're talking to say who Smith, of course, NDA dot com and be ATV hang time podcast with a bunch of times here on the show Tiki and Tierney, and you mentioned, David grit. Parma you mentioned the pelicans who swept the the blazers year ago. And obviously, the the script is totally flipped here Sekou, but as you well know, David Griffin is now they're to piece things back together. Does this does this change the direction the aggression in which they they shop anthem? Davis taking on kick the tires on this a week ago when he was introduced any chance they can rehabilitate what seems to be very fractured relationship and keep him in New Orleans. I have a hard time seeing that happen. You know, because I think Anthony Davis is already made up his mind that he wants to go play. Elsewhere. You know, now grip going on there in in put it all on the table. He's he's as good as it gets terms of managing a situation for his franchise in coming up with the out. I don't know if he's going to be able to sit all that went wrong in every relationship with Anthony Davis. They'll Danny Stanford into gas or whatever before they they let it get so out of control, and you didn't have a strong up at. Presence as it was. I think Anthony Davis kinda feel like he was just twisting in the wind. And now reference having to play catch up. I don't know that he's got enough time to repair the damage that's already been done. It's not what you do if you David Griffin. As you go in and get a sweetheart deal, you go out and find the very best deal. You can for one of the top players in the league in start an ambitious rebuilding New Orleans with an owner who who's one hundred percent behind you. So it's a great, but grip we hate to lose them. Obviously ATV. Yeah. But what what a what a clean slate you'll have to work with in New Orleans if they've pulled off the right? Gotta deal for. Yeah. No. And he's got a little bit of a resume that says he might be able to do so quickly say Couve because we're running up against for a little bit. But any idea what the Lakers are thinking as far as head coach or even replacement for magic doesn't seem like they might or might not fill that role. What what what's happening? With the Lakers right now. It's a great question. I, you know, nobody really knows had you told me to go to rob Pelinka would be the last man standing reort. I would have laughed at you. Because he was the most surprising addition. Yeah. But they've got a lot of things the workout. You gotta sort it out. I almost by finding the right coach. I think it's very difficult to find somebody who's gonna be the the right guy at this stage of LeBron's career. Yeah. So you almost have to look for coach is going gonna come help you build something. That's the stain that you can sustain beyond the Bronx time with the Lakers, and that's really a tough call because your window of opportunity with LeBron is now, you know, the next two seasons. And if you can't make that work, then then some really difficult choices have to be made about what you do to bridge that gap going forward. Do you think they hire a coast before.

"Postseason. I guess that's supposed to be a good thing. I guess that's supposed to be showing you these series of competitive, but I've shared with you my opinion earlier on in the show that I think for all three of those teams. That's that's a dreadful loss. Denver. Maybe the worst of all even though the Spurs very very impressive club. The worst of all giving away the homecourt advantage that early in a year where people are doubting you anyway, Sekou Smith membe ATV gets much more under the hood with this subject than I do. I scratched the surface. He dives in deep and he joins us here on the show Saco. I preach. She getting up early with me, buddy. Oh, yeah. No problem. John. Oh, that's good. Good here now. So I'm gonna ask you this is of the three teams that lost at home yesterday six raptors nuggets it's too early to judge in a seven game series, which you know, like the sound the alarms, but which one of the might be in the most danger. Bever- is the team that I have to be the most concerns that's going into the plane to be honest with you. There's so much experience that not only that roster has San Antonio in the Marcus. Population. Let's take mission know going into a postseason sitting against the number two seed that really doesn't have the kind of experience we normally expect out of a team that finishes as well as the regular season. So I thought going in they were the team that would be most nervous about their position given their opponent. And it turned out to be right? There was awesome at crunch time for the Spurs. And they got the business at Denver last night. They steal homecourt advantage. There. I was upset as a Sixers fan yesterday watching the defensive effort. I don't mind team losing Sekou. It happens and on any given day in the NBA. If you make the postseason you got a chance to win a game. But the effort on the defensive end of the court yesterday to me was unacceptable. What did you see in the Sixers game versus the nets? I saw super funky body language. Some benson. Which that Donald lights, and I don't know if it was because Yemi wrestle control of the game for them. And and you know, Simmons wasn't able to impact on the game the way wanted to well if it was just in general discomfort for him. I guess the Brooklyn team that can attack you in ways that make you really vulnerable. They read it couldn't guard anybody Joe wannabe. This clearly not healthy. And I. Smokes in really from the end of the regular season that bled into that. First game Brett Brown. And his staff and how they were repair. I feel and they didn't want to have to deal when Joel Embiid out there at half mast knowing fully, well, that's all the difference affiliate in terms of how these playoffs. He's a he's a guy that can take him to another level. But if he's not healthy it can't be counted. On to play the way normally does that makes it really difficult to everybody else. Do their jobs. Toronto makes coaching changes. Toronto makes major roster changes had a fantastic season goes all in on Kawai. And then goes out and loses the first game at home, which was their old DNA. Tell me about that team. And did you have more faith in them going into these posts this postseason than in previous years? Did not I felt like a big issue in the past has been LeBron James sure, they looked at it and said why big issue personnel or own scheme or own coach? Will we jettison, you know, and every place with one of his assistants, and you know, good as Kawai was all season. And and certainly he was good enough in game one to help you get to the finish line. You gotta give Landau credit. They simply outplayed the raptors. And they had a big game who former at the end that nobody saw coming in DJ August in and that is why you you cannot assume anything in the NBA playoffs where we have the kind of. I don't wanna say parody with competitiveness, you know, on both sides as you know, three the four teams that one yesterday. Would not have been the pick for most people to win. Those games is because most people have been paying attention to the competitiveness of the games around the legal fees, especially down the stretch, you could easily seen it like with San Antonio San. Antonio was playing some of the best ball in the NBA last month. Honestly other teams the teams that had to scrap to get into the playoffs. John have been playing meaningful basketball games for weeks. Right. And you can't overlook that in game one now everything resets after that. I lift it's bloodied. You know? Now, we're gonna find out if those teams that shot somebody in game one are capable of doing it again. Or does the team that got me wake up in their talent? You know, and what they've done all year takeover Sekou Smith joins us here from MBA TV Janke CBS sports radio Pacers. Celtics patients our team Sekou. I I declared them dead after you. No, major injuries appeared to take out of the mix and they've proven. Dumpsters. Like me wrong. I mean now the Celtics and the Pacers on paper, let's say it should be a great series on paper does. And if Boston is inconsistent in this series as they've been all season will be. Would've picked up there. You know? 'cause they tremendous ability you on paper what we know them to be as as individuals and what they've done in the past. There's no way they should should struggle against the faces. They're the better team the more talented team would would better equality death. But, but you know, then have helped him separate all season long. So maybe you gotta give Nate McMillan turn credit to keep that team competitive in battling. It didn't get on depot was remarkable and expect them to go out and scratching his way in this series. No matter how long it lasts. I don't expect lots of Indiana. This is Mike Putin Holzer. I know guy that you observed quite up front and personal is is is Milwaukee the real deal in east. I think they are. But like you a lot of other people I need to see it. Yes. To be sure they won sixty this year. You know? That's that's regular season teams in the league. No question about that. I think is to winning MVP, but it all goes up in smoke if they get into the post season and can't continue this role. And and don't don't overlook how important it is not a part of that mix right now, he's accused piece for them all season long for them to have him recovering. Now, you know, some that foot issue is going to be difficult to handle it. I don't know if it will affect Detroit. Because you know, Detroit has their own injury issues to deal with. But there's a lot of pressure on bud and the bucks to go on and perform at a very high level of this post is nothing even with you on ESPN as young as the years, yet speculation level has been cranked up tremendously, and it starts with this first series. And they're go eat. They can't they can't go out in the second round. Next time you post up on Shaquille O'Neal, I want you to tell them. He I was talking to your podcast partner can k- told you that LeBron was going to mess up the chemistry and with the Lakers. He didn't believe me. He didn't believe me last summer. I call say called it that he was going to bring dysfunction to that franchise. You know, more about it. Can you give us like thirty forty five seconds thumbnail on where you think the Lakers go from here. Look, I think the Lakers clearly need some new structure and is easy to blame the Brown. They've been a dumpster fire for quite some issues for years. It started when they did not plan accordingly for succession plan for Kobe Bryant. They wanted to bask in the glow Kobe for so long. That they did not go about the business of rebuilding while he was still in uniform, even when he was hurt it is coming back to bite them now and inconsistency in the way, they've been running from front office perspective is really damaging midst Cup, Jack and Jimmy bus did not plant the right, Tennessee where they took over it. Now, you're looking at a yard. They've got crabgrass. And everything else. All over the place. You know? So now, you gotta call you gotta call the professionals in to come clean up and who had any and you know, in terms of general manager. Insane. They lost out on a tremendous opportunity to try and convince David Griffin. In in creative. But with a much better than LeBron lebrons. One thing they have to take you out on the help them out of his miss that they have to manage that property as well say who you you don't get a day off till like the second week of June. So I wish you good health and yet the rest when you can get it. All right. I'll do that. They got sick who Smith joining us here on the Jackie Kato, CBS sports radio. "Postseason. I guess that's supposed to be a good thing. I guess that's supposed to be showing you these series of competitive, but I've shared with you my opinion earlier on the show that I think for all three of those teams. That's that's dreadful loss. Denver maybe the worst of all even though the Spurs very very impressive club. The worst of all given away the home court advantage that early in a year where people are doubting you anyway, Sekou Smith men, be ATV gets much more under the hood with this subject than I do. I scratched the surface. He dives in deep, and he joins us here on the show sake. Oh, I appreciate you getting up early with. Me, buddy. Oh, yeah. No problem. John L. That's good. Good here now. So I'm gonna ask you this is of the three teams that lost at home yesterday. Sixers raptors nuggets, I it's too early to judge in a seven game series, which the sound the alarms, but which one of them might be in the most danger. Denver is the team that has to be the most concerned that I thought that going into the plain honest with you. There's so much experience that not only that roused there has and San Antonio in the Marcus. Rose politician. Let's take mission, you know, going into a postseason sitting against the number two seed that really doesn't have the kind of experience we normally expect out of a team finishes as well as in the regular season. So I thought going in they were the team that would be most nervous about their position given the opponent, and it turned out to be right there. Quite was awesome at crunch time for the Spurs. And they got the business done in Denver last night. They steal homecourt advantage. There. I was upset as Sixers fan yesterday. Watching the defensive effort. I don't mind team losing Sekou. It happens and on any given day in the NBA. If you make the postseason you got a chance to win a game. But the effort on the defensive end of the court yesterday to me was unacceptable. What did you see in the Sixers game versus the nets? Super funky body language from Ben Simmons, which I don't like. And I don't know if it was because Yemi Butler had kinda wrestle control at a game for them. And and you know, Simmons wasn't able to impact the, you know, the game the way he wanted to or if it was just in general discomfort for him. I guess the Brooklyn team that can attack you in ways that make you really vulnerable. Jay read, it couldn't anybody Joel and beat is clearly not healthy. And I think. Really from the end of the regular season that bled into that first game for Brown in his staff and how they were repair. I get the feeling they didn't want to have to deal when Joel Embiid out there at half mast knowing fully well, Joel is the difference. So Philly in terms of how far they'll go over the playoff. He's a he's a guy that can take him to another level. But if he's not healthy it can't be counted. On to play the way you normally does that makes it really difficult to everybody else. Do their jobs. Toronto makes coaching changes. Toronto makes major roster changes have a fantastic season goes all in on Kauai. And then goes out and loses the first game at home, which was their old DNA. Tell me about that team. And did you have more faith in them going into these posts this postseason than in previous years? Honestly, I did not. I felt like a big issue in the past has been LeBron James sure, I think they look at it and said, I big issue personnel. Our own scheme around coach who we jettison, you know, and every place with one of his assistants, and you know, good as was all season. And certainly he was good enough in game one to help you get to the finish line. You gotta give Orlando credit. They simply outplayed the raptors. And they had a big game. Who rent the end nobody saw coming in DJ August. And and that is why you you cannot assume anything in these playoffs when we have the kind of I don't wanna say parody competitiveness, you know, on both sides. I thought you know, three to four teams that won yesterday would not have been the pick for most people to win. Those games is because most people have been paying attention to the competitiveness of the games around the league season, especially down the stretch, you could easily seen it like with San Antonio San Antonio was playing. Some of the best ball in the NBA last month. Honestly other teams the teams that had to scrap to get into the playoffs. John have been playing meaningful basketball games for weeks. Right. And you can't overlook that in game one now everything resets after that first lip gets bloodied. You know? So maybe it won't you gotta give maybe McMillan. Of credit to keep that team competitive in battling to win. It. Didn't depot was remarkable and expect them to go out and scratching and fight their way in this series. No matter how long it lasts. I don't expect lots of dominate Indiana. This is Mike Putin Holzer. I know guy that you observed quite up front and personal is is is Milwaukee the real deal in east. I think they are. But like you a lot of other people I need to see it.
