Mercedes reveals giant 56-inch, AI-enabled 'Hyperscreen' for upcoming electric car
"Listeners. It's brett molina and welcome back to talking tech. My co host. Mike cider is off today. Recently mercedes-benz announced plans for a fifty six inch curved screen that nearly spans the width of a new cars interior. That just sounds incredible. Saying it out loud. The hyper screen will debut the spring. And it's new electric sedan the mercedes benz s. It's part of a growing trend among automakers to make your car's function more like computers but are all these screens and other tech safe joining us now is money reporter and i believe green bay packers. Fan nathan bomi. Thanks for joining us brett. How are you. I'm good so you ask the question in your story about this topic and whether bigger is actually better what did you find out well. Fifty six screen is john. I mean we've never seen a screen like this in a vehicle and you know it depends on who you ask. Whether it's safe or not the mercedes benz says it safe and And safety advocates are concerned. I mean you know. The first company that really started to pioneer big screens and vehicles was tesla model s a luxury sedan and then later with the model three and other vehicles and they basically put a tablet screen at the center console in place of a lot of the old fashioned analog buttons but mercedes is taking this to a new level by basically extending the screen across the vehicle screen even now encompasses the instrument cluster. So this is a really a step toward bigger and bigger. And i think we're going to continue to see. Other automakers follow suit so it's weird hearing all these announcements about these giant screens and cars considering how much we've been told about smartphones in the dangers of having those and using those waller driving. How do automakers plan to tackle all these additional screens and cars. Well the most important thing is to keep people's eyes on the road that's really the challenge and so if there's a screening vehicle but you keep your eyes on the road it should be safe for the most part the problem of course with smartphones is oftentimes people are fumbling for them with their hands and they take their eyes off the road and then he ended up getting into an accident driver. Distraction is really serious crisis for this country and so we obviously want to avoid that here. Now when i asked the ceo of daimler on a conference call a couple of weeks ago how they incorporated safety concerns into the design of the hyper screen. He said that they actually designed it to ensure that people don't have to take the eyes off the road for example if ape. The passenger is looking at the screen. Has some sort of video plane on the screen In in front of them essentially in the front seat and the driver takes their eyes off the road and looks at the screen. The vehicle be able to recognize that. I've movement and stopped the film from airing on the front passenger seat Screen which is wild and then if you put your is back on the road than it keeps playing. This is some really high tech stuff. And you know we'll see if it works now at my understanding is that particular technology will not be in use in the us because of safety concerns here but it will be in use and other countries. I wouldn't be surprised if the regulations eventually change here to allow it so with all these fisted systems coming in cars. How long before this starts to change how we learn how to drive. I think it will you know. I think we're talking about things like augmented reality windshields being the next step. Where essentially you'll basically have a directions projected onto the screen that we if you've seen a new vehicle driven a new vehicle anytime recently you may have experienced what's called heads up display which is where. There's a tiny in a projected box. Bright above your instrument cluster on the windshield. That essentially will show you for example what speed. You're traveling but in reality windshield would project like an arrow onto the road head of you to say turn this way or that way and so. That's the next

"I was using a five pound container of hand, soap opera wait. Remember that. my friends and I set up this little spreadsheet where we can track our fitness. ooh! And our goal was just to do seventy minutes and seven days, so that could be just like two workouts, or that can be ten minutes a day, but we put our little times on there. It's kind of like a nice way to hold each other accountable, and also to set a very reasonable goal that you can easily exceed is is satisfying that supernatural I've been playing a vr workout game called supernatural. That I talked about on besties. Justin's playing it also. There's a weekly scoreboard, but shows like how many points you've earned that week and staying on top of that has been a real a very important thing to me in my life. and. It's good. I feel it's for me. It's not even a health thing necessarily like I just kind of feel better on days when I do, I feel like I have more energy to tackle whatever Henry has to throw at us. That particular day is a very tangible thing you can accomplish a lot of us are doing things every day that don't feel especially satisfying to have like a thing that you did. That's quantifiable. The makes you feel good is Nice Yup. I think I might actually. Oh, I have a getting into puzzles here. Find Puzzle something that can occupy and I even talking about puzzle puzzles like it could be so Rachel and I have been watching survivor. This season has been the last season was fucking miserable. The last man WanNa stop watching the show they they fucked up in a lot of ways both sort of. As a television product and as an ethical sort of thing. We did give this next season. The one we're on now at a second chance and it's been fucking real good. It's like all the superstars. It's all the superstar together and it's good. It's good play. It's good stuff, but anyway. They do a lot of slide puzzles on there and I kept talking about. How like I think I do pretty well this show until it came time for me to do a slide puzzle and I would absolutely shit the bed at that point because I don't know how to slide puzzle, so I've been learning how to do slide puzzle good fairly formulaic.

"Nicholas Cage so yes I think I mean you've got time. You're looking to create a new routines is obviously one. That's good for you so you know it doesn't feel like let's say you're somebody like me and you're very practical. Think I only want to do things that are good for me and useful? This is one of them. Yeah I would also like to put in the trunk of the mindset of you can also do things that aren't good and useful that matches take some work. On my part I it became the my creation of hard candy was very difficult for me. It was I remember. We had a conversation about like. Yeah I just ordered stuff to make candy and you were like. I don't understand how that's going to benefit me and our family and I had to be like. Oh No it's just I would like to make hard candy. Here's the thing. This is probably common for a lot of people I am entered into a survival mindset where I think like all right. What is this going to do for the family? How is this to get US forward? Like what is this doing to make sure that all of us you know can thrive as a unit and Griffin was like. Hey this is something i WanNa do for me and I was like Oh yeah okay. That's probably good too. Yeah although now I can write it off on my taxes because Henry has at least two of the pop sticks so clear sort of justification wise. What do I got? Oh speaking of our beautiful angel. I'm GonNa talk about one of his toys that I always snatch up and play with for hours on anti an talking about magnet tiles. Magnet are so good. These are geometric shapes. They are squares triangles. They are different kinds of triangles. Different colors color. Everything is different colors in their plastic and inside of them on the edges of these shapes. They have magnets. And so you just snap them together. And folks it is hypnotic is so soothing to just take six squares and make a fucking cue bout of them and then you put some triangles on it and then what's that it's a house and you make a few of those and now it's a castle but then you build like a robot torso and put it all together and now it's like a robot made out of houses and they're pretty big too so it's not like a lego where no there's hundreds of them in they're all over your floor you know. These are chunky enough that you don't lose sight of them They're very smooth and you can make them to three. D geometric shapes you can put stuff inside of own hat man and now it's like this. Crystalline robot has captured Batman. And there's so much narrative stuff to play with. I have I have a new hack where I realized. Hey it's a magnet. We can stick to the fridge and then we may little apartments for our little action figures on the fridge. It was real fun And then we did. We acted out whole like plays like very short. One Act plays where the ridler was in a romantic relationship with the penguin but things were getting very tense between the two. I don't WanNa spoil it but things were getting very tense between the two of them and then Henry walked up and did do a big smash and our play in our wholesale fell apart. He's still at that age where his greatest delight is to destroy things that you have made. This is not. I'm not joking whenever the come out. That's my meditation. That's my chill moment. Maybe to a fault because Henry will be like. Hey I do have action figures over here. Mike Daddy's almost done building. Henry is like I don't WanNa play with that and I understand. You're playing with that but I would like you to play with me right Yeah Magma Tiles man so chill let me toss those in there. Oh No. They landed next to the switch. And the magnets erased all my games thing. I always worry about that like if I ever magnet in my purse and I have my credit cards my in trouble with your credit cards. Yeah I think so I have to be. I need to do some research on this. I mean if you took like that neodymium magnet. That's like in my room for some reason. So I can get little screws out of the. Shag carpeting. you'd that's a rip that's rip on whatever you've got on you but I don't know I think magnetized you might be. Okay okay. This one. It's going to be a little tricky. I'm asking you to bring your laptop into the car Works I can fit that. Okay okay because I am recommending that we have doing thanks to our very dear friends which is a weekly happy hour yes this. I was skeptical right. Because I don't love zoom the Webex. I find it difficult to talk to one or two people in that kind of setting but with our weekly happy hour with our friends. We've got sometimes like up to like twelve people in there. We're playing a game together on our phone like a like a Jack Box game plan with our zoom backgrounds. You know we're all looking at each other's beards and I feel like this is fun and I'm so grateful to have that consistent time on my calendar where I know I will see everybody. Yeah it's it is invaluable. It is genuinely again emotional thinking about it because like I feel like that's the kind of stuff I am going. Remember from this period. I fucking hope. It's the thing that I remember from this period. It's just such a delight like the even the like the mechanics of it. The way like somebody will pop up on your screen. You're just you're just so delighted. No harm yeah pop in. Yeah we don't have a friend named norm but that was an example. I have a I have here and I can slide this in the complete works of High Al Miyazaki or really just any studio Ghibli flick that you are any kind of feel. Good anime that you WANNA slot in there go for it But I'm talking specifically like spirited away. I'm talking Totoro and talking house. Moving Castle soundtracks on those or so tracks on. Those Henry is very Kiki's delivery service and it's so good and transported of. I think those those movies sort of transported and is I love being transported. These days is transported live. Let's a word okay. I use it a lot so I've made it a word through brute force at this point and if you've seen those movies you don't feel like watching those movies. You have another way to get away with the with the High Oh Miyazaki collection and that is the studio Ghibli Museum which has been a fairly like clandestine place. It is in Japan. You have to buy tickets to like well in advance to actually get in. It's this like actual little town that is sort of modeled after Studio Ghibli movies so it is just beautiful and mysterious very cool but they don't you take any pictures or anything so like there's an element of actual mystery to it. But they had just started doing like Youtube video. Worst of the videos are fairly short but again like it is for me because I didn't get to go the couple of times we've been to Japan like it is the the the first time I've gotten to see all the stuff in there and it's so fucking cool. It's so cool and good. God I love those movies. Okay with this one. I'm asking you to fold down the back seats space for yourself okay. No that's good because I can lay out in the sun there now to look. Will you be in the car so that wouldn't be? I'm talking about like one of those vans where you can fold down the seats and be in your car okay. Good yes because I'm asking you to do a youtube workout. Okay here. Here's the thing with the fitness right So I was real into the walks for awhile whether it doesn't always make that right and not everybody as you know the equipment. Let's say yeah I found Youtube workouts to be just kind of an endless source. Because here's the thing. Yeah there's thirty minute workouts whether also ten minute workouts and there's twenty minute workouts twentieth the sweet spot. There's there's yoga there's cardio there's dance there's pilates there's bar it's there's a lot out there and here's the thing some of them have weights. We had a for a while before I did the work to find our weights and bring it upstairs. I was using a five pound container of hand soap as my weight. Remember that my friends and I set up this little spreadsheet where we can track our fitness and our goal was just to do seventy minutes and seven days so that could be just like two workouts or that can be ten minutes a day but we put our little times on there and it's kind of like a nice way to hold each other accountable and also to set a very reasonable goal that you can very easily exceed is is satisfying bet supernatural. I've been playing a VR workout. Oh good fairly formulaic way to do so. Just when I have a little bit of time on my hands book solve the puzzle Justin's big into Rubik's cubes these days that you can just sorta occupy your hands with. Yeah that's a pretty good sedan. Yeah it's weirdly. There's like one little corner where there's some hard candy and celery just kind of rattling around in a little jar of pre cut garlic and then there's a human being laying down and sleeping and dreaming in the Sun for ten minutes the car. It's a weirdly shaped car. It's like a trauma in a way like there's an l shaped vehicle but you know the. There's no wrong way to do this thing. We call life these days. That's not true. There's wicked a lot of wrong way. Get smart be smart about it but take care of yourself with this incredible Sedan Rachel and I have created. Yeah just thinking about all these little things together in a car kind of a nice way to like you know give yourself some com. Yeah but don't.

I have had maybe two or three facials and my entire life and I happen to have one right before quarantine and I found out some guidance on the skin care and it's kind of changed things for me a little bit first of all I was exfoliating. Such you are not supposed to fully eight as much as I was. Exfoliating you there will be days where you would just be skeletons. There will be days where you come to abandon me. Like Ha no yours. Yours spooky sky was told to exfoliating like once or twice a week tops. No but you look like a muscle. He looked like a one of those Muscles statues that. They have that schools to teach. Your muscles are okay. I was confused about where you with that. You didn't give me. A statue is what through? I think most people wouldn't call them a statue. Africa what the Mannequin Mannequin. Is usually scary muscle mannequin. That's what you were to me Do that do some do do a mask. Do a mask maybe. Once a week moisturised meet regularly Wash face every day. That wasn't even something I was doing. I wasn't even washing my face every day now but you were exfoliating house apple. I I was so instead of washing. Exfoliating often You know why clean the skin when you can just remove it.

"Have! We talked about that before I know what okay I, we talk about it I. There was a period of time in our history. In which tribal tattoos were very popular, and the year was two thousand and I was a freshman in college. I wanted to get a tattoo and I thought I. Wanted something that I'm not going to get tired of. And that was the son so I have a tribal sun on my. It's well. It's on your shoulder. And it's about the size of my palm. It's not huge, but it's tiny Q. I like it. It's suggests in. A different era. Yes, absolutely, Hey, listen. You got out pretty good. There's a lot of worse sort of body body mods from that era that you. Ended up with true. Yes, so I just I go out for ten minutes. Sound like I'm like full on suntanning like at the beach and you go for ten minutes. It makes me feel like I'm on Summer Vaca- does good things for my d levels and I would recommend it I know a lot of people don't have a backyard right now. They don't have a big space to really really. Really stretch out, but just ten minutes and the Sun. I think it's important and I'd recommend it. Yeah, no than that. Be Smart about it. Yeah, if it was any more than that, you, you would I would try to you, but you're very. You're very responsible. They get in and out. Take care of your skin. Give it just a a kiss of the. That sounds too awful. Awful which hereby. We've I would be retreading much ground, but it has been like truly truly I imagine. Switches I think are kind of hard to get right now so right but. I don't think I think this is a fairly fantastical self-care sedan, so all right all right, but I just like having games on hand I I wish I could say like phone games..

"Hi this is Rachel mcelroy. Oh hello this is Griffin mcelroy. Wonderful GonNa do a little bit of a different APP and you know it's been awhile since we've done a different APP. I feel like we are owed a different up from time to time. Defensive already like we deserve a different APP. From time. To time we W- what's the justification here? What's the reasoning for this year? I feel like is there certain weeks Rachel. I have a tough time coming up with. Good Meaty beefy delicious topics. I just got really hungry for like a steak while describing that there there is no shortage of wonderful things but sometimes there are wonderful things that our ten minutes worth of wonderful and sometimes also your brain is in a spot. That won't really let you think of wonderful things because of everything that's going on but you can't really blame that cause your brain is also sort of predisposed to the dark thoughts but guess what we do. Have an episode for you this week. And maybe this one's even more will provide more value to you. Maybe after last week's episode you're like Damn I can't go out and play laser tag right now but this week. Maybe this will be more. Actionable what are we doing so this week? Griffin and I are focusing on the wonderful things that are particularly useful to you right now. Is someone stuck in your house. I think the way we've described it is a little self-care gift basket we're going to put together or did we say gift box. I guess establish that I is a basket isn't a bag container. We're going to be putting. I've literally organized all of these things thinking of like sliding them into Are you going to have to sort of edit and a lot of mine don't fit in a basket while just find a way to kind of get it? Okay in a container. Maybe you sound a basket. Maybe it's like a sedan. Maybe it's the maybe it's the trunk of a mid sized sedan. Still won't really work for me but I'll figure it out self care sedan trunk that we're putting together for you and a bubble. What about a big like dome? What if you were self care bio dome because my first thing is actually the movie Bio Dome Small One? These are all kind rates came all if I had something that I was excited about. Guess what it's going in the fucking sedan it's going in the bio dome. We have a bunch of stuff to talk about in. Let's just do that. Do you want to start? Do you want me to crack open. And then you would start. Okay let me. Just those are the keys for a. It's empty. Let me get this spare tire out here because we don't want this and we have Jack back here. They're not gonNA want this in their care box. My first thing that I have in the self-care Sedan is just some celery sticks. Celery sticks are very important to me right now because I didn't know that well then vegetables and produce I now have a sort of new respect for. There's a lot of stuff they. It's tougher to find these days and I'm realizing that I hate to sing the Joni Mitchell song every single time but don't always seem go that you don't know what you gotta it's gone and pave celery sticks or all vegetables really input parking lot celery sticks one. I like the taste salary. So fucking sue me. I like it. I think it's a good vegetable Chili. Now I like the chewing chewing and I like the cool snap of it right. Yeah on a hot day eating celery. Getting getting your choppers into one of those like veggie trays on a hot blustery. Summer Day. Getting one of those cools. You right off. It's like you're going into a swimming pool but in your mouth and also guess what I love dips. I reloaded on Hamas. By the way in case you were start yes and noise but like fritos. I've been doing. We're we don't have a lot. We didn't have tortilla chips. We did have a very old bag of fritos that I used to eat one of those little only cups. I love Guacamole. I do not like eating. Old Fritos gallery is like you can eat a billion those. You're not GonNa get that Frito Gut feel bad because of all the Frito base music thing right so like The desire to snack has increased significantly but turns out. If you have a for vegetable that is mostly water. It's good baby that Iran as much as you want it's like it's like a good sort of supporting her co star to the debt. Because I'm just going to. I'm going to sit in the back seat. I'm going to let it. I'M GONNA say stay in the background and let you Hamas take the stage and command it. I'm just going to be back here supporting you. I'm not going to try and I'm not going to cut you off. I'm not going to interrupt you. I'm not going to overshadow you. I think celery sticks are bomb ass good and I like them and let me just look at that. They barely take any space. We have so much more room in the sedan. What are you got you know it? You love it. It's Muffins Ma bin Laden. Okay folks talking about bread right now. Everybody's all on bread right. Here's the thing about bread huge time can and you have to have some yeast or you can make your own use time commitment. Make Your Own Yeast folks doing that. Make your how. That's what like a starter is but you gotTa have the starter to get the starter right. Somebody's got to make that first starter right who made the first yeast anyway. Muffins okay. No yeast hardly any time commitment. All right you can store it for a long time. I looked saw. You can store muffins at room temperature for five days away. We keep them in the fridge as a week. A week is air easy we put. We definitely pushed that. Sometimes we definitely have some chocolate chip muffins in there. That are at least two weeks old. Hey that's okay. Muffins take like twenty minutes to make or less no problem And then it's just like flour sugar baking powder milk ritual egg and then whatever you want your sweet stuff to be. Yeah I have done done applesauce. It done cinnamon of done chocolate chip Anything you'd think a banana bread went up for that in a muffin. Tin Go will snack size. Don't be so close minded. Put it in a Muffin. Tin The I. I have been all of the muffins we constantly have muffins and our fridge. I ensure that That is my goal for each week is to create a muffin. I mean as long as we're exploring food you know it you knew this was coming at some point horrid candy a candy that's hard this is this is griffin and I yes. We're we're Mars and Venus over here because I am all about that chocolate. Yeah you know. I want something creamy that I can combined into right that that scratches my my sweet tooth but in a very chewy way right. I mean I like the chew if I had my druthers. I would eat sour. Patch kids breakfast lunch and dinner like yeah but the problem is that that much raw sugar tonnage entering my system hurts my body so fucking it really really really does hard candy gives you that flavor but it dispenses it in a much more time release manner. Yeah you get that flavor for longer. So I'm good with a lifesaver. I'm good with jolly rancher of jolly ranchers in my car which I drove for the first time in a very long time over the weekend and those jolly ranchers in our oven like garage. Well but here's the other thing I've been making hard candy house wondering if you were to get into this We work with a media manager named Sarah who came to one of the shows that we did in Florida and brought hard candy. And she's like I made this. I was like you. Can you can make. And so she. She hooked me up with the recipe. A got a bunch of different flavoring oil adventures to about the mold. I got some. I almost called it a pop stick our son Calls Molly. Pops pop sticks. And that's very good but I made some for him and it's like he looks at me like I'm like I'm as hero for the First Time. It's wicked easy just like you made this for me. He's very sweet about it. But it's like three ingredients and then whatever flavoring in food color you wanna add to it and then you just make it and then you have. We have so much hard candy and is fine at tastes good. And it's a hobby in the citric acid. Don't forget citric acid. I'm still I'm afraid of the citric acid. The DON'T WANNA burn my tongue tongue of beloved family members. I am glad that you brought this here because I feel like I have not found a way to appreciate you enough the hard candy because I personally am not a huge fan of the hard candy so I'm glad you brought it huge. Don't eat my creations to get the recognition you deserve. Thank you Yeah I think maybe I might make some. Today of Henry's nap goes well makes them that candy. I'm very very excited about so. We'll we'll keep you all updated but just general concept also of getting. A new hobby is very powerful during these times. That's true you can't put a concept into the sedan. But I slid the hard candy right next to my salary. So this this is going to be where my My items will be around the car. Okay My first one. I'm taking you up to the roof and I'm saying why don't you lay down on top of that car for ten minutes and get some Sun giving a little bit assign this thing I do so I realize that it was going to be mentally healthy for me was to think about? This is a long summer vacation and think about it as if I am a eleven year old and I've just you know I've broken for the summer. Nothing going on. Yeah and why not? Just sit outside for ten minutes. Pretend I'm just catching some rays getting some of that. Good son De. I've talked about how I love. The Sun Right. But here's the thing too got along your fucking bod don't you have? We talked about that before. I know what okay I we talk about IT I. There was a period of time in our history in which tribal tattoos were very popular and the year was two thousand and I was a freshman in college. I wanted to get a tattoo and I thought I wanted something that I'm not going to get tired of. And that was the son. So I have a tribal sun on my Ba- it's well it's on your shoulder and it's about the size of my palm. It's not huge but it's tiny Q. I like it. It's suggests in a different era. Yes absolutely hey listen you got out pretty good. There's a lot of worse sort of body body. Mods from that era that you ended up with true yes so I just I go out for ten minutes. It sound like I'm like full on suntanning like at the beach and you go for ten minutes and makes me feel like I'm on summer. Vaca- does good things for my d levels and I would recommend it. I think are kind of hard to get right now so right but I don't think I think this is a fairly fantastical self-care sedan so all right all right. But I just like having games on hand I. I wish I could say like phone games. I used to play a lot of games on my phone and I've tried out a lot and there's just nothing that's really unless you are on that words with friends lifestyle that I am on on So instead no you know what I'm GonNa go ahead and stick with. I think a video game used anywhere I think is very valuable. It's something that is Something that's beefy. You can really think some time into something. That's online. I have very much enjoyed that aspect of animal crossing of getting to like go visit friends and see their islands and stuff like that. I've been playing an online final..

"And it's all presented by progressive insurance. And as I mentioned our guests appear via the Shell Pennzoil performance line so Mason as opposed to join us in the next segment. Now Bergman you have not heard for Mason before I get to the Trivia competition here. No he was supposed to come on Tuesday and he's like oh I've forgotten and see it. So let's do Thursday. I said Okay Great. Let's do what is he doing? All in quarantine like I'd say you can't be busy here. He's Mason and he likes to just take time often. Stay away from everything idea. Now you said during the break that if he doesn't come on today you want to ban him yeah no. He's banned these van if he doesn't come on twice in Saudi here Mason. The originator of the ban will be receiving a ban by you greg. Bourbon yeah. Absolutely you're pulling for Greg move and just saying I'M GONNA Ban Mason from this show. What look you've bail on me. Once I get it but villainous twice in the same week where you told me the day I mean listen I I normally will fight John Stuff but you are the boss okay ultimately so if you say he's banned I don't know we'll have to go with it We'll have to. Maybe we'll put it to the audience at that point all right anyway. Who Do we have on the line? Laura who do we have on the line competing for rams deer in our game? Today we have tim in Valencia and Giovanni and Kuvina are. Let me talk to Tim. I Tim in Valencia. Tim How are you? Hey George you better at starfish and coffee on twitter. Oh there we go starfish and coffee. My Guy Are you. Sir. I'm doing good. I'm doing good how you been excellent. Excellent Tim thank you so much. I so who else do we have? Giovanni Wear Laura in Colina Giovanni Covina. Giovanni how are you bud? You all good great man. I saw you guys ready. We're ready I so here. Here's the deal I'm going to. I'm going to explain the rules one time and then if you have any questions asked me and then we'll play. Okay if you have no questions so we are playing like college football overtime rules. You will start your drive at the twenty yard line now. You can put pressure on your opponent by taking the toughest question. Which is the touchdown question and going for seven right out of the gate or it doesn't have to be out of the gate but you can pick the hardest question to get seven points on the board as quickly as you'd like okay but once you score the other person gets their drive and if they tie. We go to the next round if they don't tie the person who has the highest score after each having one drive wins the easiest questions are the first down questions technically sister starting at the twenty three. I DOWN QUESTIONS CORRECT. You get seven points as a touchdown you also have a field goal question which is in between the most difficult. Which is the touchdown question? And the first question which is the easiest. You guys understand the rules. I got it okay. Perfect Laura give me the music I so I'm going to flip a coin. Giovanni call heads or tails go herald tales. It is Giovanni you go first or actually you can kick or defer you can choose me or take the take the drive yourself. Giovanni our theme you'll receive. Okay you WanNa go first find all good. I are you ready. Here we go. What is your first you want? What is the first election? Do you want to I down. Question a field goal question or a touchdown question. We talked with a touchdown. Okay you have three. You have three downs. Okay so on the fourth one. You're going to have to make a decision so you can go touchdown. That's fine I. We were just talking about Steve Mason. Steve Mason grew up in what city? Alito correct. You've got a touchdown right on the board already. Giovanni Lau we'll get that touchdown. Giovanni I so put pod Giovanni down a little bit if we can I so tim. Are you ready yes. Now you don't have to go for the touchdown right away. You can build your drive okay. You can make take the easy ones or you. Don't have to go right away for the touchdown but you could because you get three downs and on the fourth one you have to make a real decision just like you would in a game. So what are you picking? Give me your first question. I down question Giordano. That would be mean does what on ESPN NBA? Television broadcasts? Your sideline reporter. That is correct. You got a first down your now at the ten yard line. What do you want now? I question I down question what newspaper. Just L Z GRANDERSON RIGHT FOR THE LA Times. That is correct. Okay now we have this. You're on you're on the goal line so another first question. I would presume question okay. Alan sleepwalk is the host of the sleeper show. But what other weekly show does he host here on? Espn seven ten. Oh my God. You're not going to be wet sunset. That's technically this Lihua show which show his other show that so. That's fine second down. It's Lakers talk. It's Lakers talk doc. Okay yes all right. You want another first down question. Yes yes so the first question who had this time slot from ten? Am To noon before me. Stephen Smith that is correct. You scored a touchdown touchdown for Tim and Valencia. We are tied at seven now. We have enough questions. I think that we can go one more round. You Ready Okay so Giovanni are you ready. I'm here I let's go. What are you picking touchdown? Okay here we go John Ireland once worked in what city in Texas Thin now that's incorrect. That is incorrect. It is you know what I'm GonNa. I'm GonNa not give the answers because that way they come up again. Tim has a shot at all. Right.

"Are you going to sit him for a year or is he going to kind of do a richer there is no red starting in the NFL? Anymore I mean obviously Patrick Mahomes do that. But Alex Smith and the Kansas City chiefs were a good football team but they didn't necessarily need Patrick Mahomes at the time if he gets drafted in the top ten or even the top twenty He will play this season. That's just given that's just the way the NFL works. He will play but will he be ready to play. That's my only thing because we've seen it pretty quickly. You can be exposed fairly quickly in the national football league and think about this. Josh Rosen and I'm not comparing Justin. Herbert's Josh Rosen. But I'm saying Josh Rosen. May Be out of the League in three years for the former top ten. Pick just because of you only get one shot at it. When it doesn't work leak molten moves right past you yes no. I don't think there's any question about it. Look as we kind of look at the quarterback landscape. What do you make of the possibility of team like just taking a flyer and Cam Newton Cam as a former? Mvp what former he isn't even PS leaky manifest. So I think for him. It's about the right fit He is a starter. Still it just for him right now as a free agent There was no rush. You know why. Go to a team right now. That possibly can draft a kid and now you're like okay now. I'm on a bridge quarterback. I'm only here for one year. You go out and you look around and you see what teams that couldn't get things done. I mean a lot of people are linking him. I think if I look at New England and I know it's maybe some can't see but I can see him in New England if there if they don't upgrade a quarterback position I did. He can beat out another auburn kid and Jarret Stidham. So that's where I kind of look at where he's at right now with Cam. There's no reason to rush. There's some teams that are going to be high on camp if they don't feel comfortable what they can get draft at quarterback. Yeah I'm just one of these guys that thinks that when I look at like the big picture here And I'm looking at Burroughs specifically. I know he can throw the ball and I know you've seen him a million times and I just don't love that. There's not enough of a sample size right like you know. I looked at him a little bit as a one year. Wonder you know what I'm saying like. Why couldn't it work Ohio state and I know that there are different reasons right like I get their reasons behind this stuff but I there's a reason they let him walk? You know what I mean like. I just think that he was in a perfect situation. It kind of reminds me a little bit of Matt. Lennart not to say that. He's Matt Leonard. But reminds me a little bit of that? He wasn't touched his offensive line. Kept him clean? He had tremendous weapons. I just don't know if he's a guy that can elevate your franchise. I'm not I'm not ready to label him that which is why. I'm worried at him at the number one pick. Yeah I mean I think a lot of people will kind of have that you know skepticism a little bit but for me. I just like you mentioned i. I saw him multiple times and the thing is Knew he had when he was a freshman? You know he had to sit behind. Jt Beer who arguably one of the best quarterbacks ever played in the big ten when you look at his numbers his production and then when Joe Borg got the opportunity to compete for the job. He lost out to a top five. Pick in Dwayne Haskins and then after that he decided to okay. I'm going to transfer. He played two years at Lsu. He brought that program back and then they found an offensive mind right in the offense of mine if they brought in to to kind of be his Joe Brady who was a former. Nfl Assistant now. He's the offensive coordinator with the Carolina. Panthers Joe Berle running an NFL offense lashing and that's how he got better. He was better suited for the NFL game. And that's when his game really took off last year he was making. Nfl throws George. He was making NFL. Re-teach going you know going to number one progression to progression three. And he did it at a high level and then he did it against Alabama. He did it against you know we saw it against Clinton right. He did it against some of the better teams in all of college football. And I think that's where I was stalled on Joe Borough that I saw him get better each and every game. Where some of these other guys. It's it's tough outside of him in to see a big drop off when it comes to the quarterback spot. Yeah I agree I agree with that will open up the phones if you've got draft questions for your team whatever team it is eight seven seven hundred ten. Espn eight seven seven ten three seven seven. Six Kirk covers.

everywhere we want to go we're on some back road the car is fine but I got done I got down off the mountain I thought we should a had we should have four wheel drive me in it it's not every day when we're there we're traveling on back your roads were covered in snow winding up mountain passes and I just I I thought back and I just said you know that was dumb like I was not smart and they even have new rules now in Colorado about certain roads that you can cannot travel with certain types of tires and certain types attraction and like a fool I just kind of say la la la la la and drove up there and next time next time I'm going for more traction you pay more obviously for the all wheel drive yeah but sometimes depending if you're nice to the attendant when you go out to choose your vehicle yeah sometimes they will upgrade you for no additional money out yeah see I got a pregnant wife worried about no so you know lies that well maybe you twist things a little bit no no you don't have to lie just say Hey sometimes if they like you they'll just upgrade your you don't have to necessarily pay more money I would rather take aways are the good the bad the ugly yeah I'll say I mean I I got plenty of stories all say one more thing we did a hike the first day when we were there we hiked at Saint Mary's college glacier which is just outside of our our outside of Denver and it's I guess it's a legit glacier I didn't think there was many out there but the folks that were there with said it was a glacier obviously it's all covered in snow and there's a mountain lake up there that's all frozen over and I mean just one of the most stunning places I've ever been the the the trees the snow were right at the at the tree line so you looking up in there's just raw mountain after you've hiked through the woods and the best part about that experience was making friends so we get up to the top and there's a group of people kind of scattered around and we're asking so many take pictures and pretty soon we find out that there is a Minnesotan from Roseville there's a couple guys from Iowa and then they find two more guys from Isla sorna group of ten people and we're just hanging out like passing beers around having a good time on top of this man and I just thought about you know it's a fantastic experience anyway but why not make some friends along the way so I I love that especially when you're in an extreme environment like that there is a camaraderie that like look we all drove up the same whiny road and hiked out to this crazy destination and we don't you know we're so used to be in in the you know concrete jungle you just keep your eyes down and don't talk to anybody yeah and this Titian yeah and up there your your all friends you're all you have the same priority and you're out here have a fantastic day in the sunshine so it was fun to add on to all of that you know meeting some people from the Midwest and and hang out together so let me ask you a question Katrina are you roughly the same in terms of skill levels do you feel compelled to follow her to make sure she's okay how does that work when you're on the slopes or did she follow Hanna to make sure that he's okay bingo that's a great question and I I I've had to learn about this long way the answer is I grew up skiing in Minnesota set from a from a young age I'm I'm a pretty decent skier and snowboarder my wife did not grow up skiing and has just learned in the last few years and she's doing very well we'll go to Colorado she can do the greens and blues just fine everyone's while pusher to go on a black but I used to pusher further and probably five or six times we've ended up in situations that were not good where we took a wrong turn now we're in the trees on a double black diamond yeah and it's what have you got me and yeah it's not good it's terrible so and then I'm I've been in situations like I have to stay up hill of her because if she falls over loses risky I have to feel to get to her to help her to put her skis and you know doing that for half an hour just to get back to safety to a run you can handle it's it's not fun it's not good so we have an understanding now and we stay on runs together that we can you know both excel at and then later all take out with my friend and head out to the back and she's okay with that if you do your own yes okay absolutely yeah that's on we got it's far we go apres ski we get a drink the voice can go do whatever they do that's right yes I want to gamble shop yeah we can help to roll the gift shop god help me it's five forty three when we get back when the jury thank you yes that was fun here thank you David thank we will lighten things up with a little late night comedy and the story about how our phones can detect health problems there's a hundred percent accuracy in detecting Parkinson's real here about that next all enjoyed Anna bevel presents how to speak to animals that's a dog.

"The US has biggest automaker has announced massive cutbacks in North America. General Motors says it intends to cut up to fourteen thousand eight hundred jobs and production at several North American factories GM like other car makers is trying to adjust to weeks sedan sales. And in fact, in one of its moves that'll stop making the Chevy Cruz as it idols. It's plant in Lordstown, Ohio. The cutbacks also affect plants in Michigan and Canada and would reduce GM's annual costs by four and a half billion dollars. The United Auto Workers union called the decision callous and both President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau call GAMCO, Mary Barra to express their disappointment Wall Street Journal reporter, Mike Elias joins us from Detroit via Skype. Mike isn't this a simple case of supply and demand? You can't keep making cars that aren't profitable. But instead must focus on those that sell well and make money like SUV's and pick ups yet. That's certainly what GM is saying. I mean, the cars that they're making now are very profitable. If. It all some car lines lose money in. This is a problem that's gone on throughout the industry, the Detroit companies more so than the Asian companies have done a better job of being able to still make money on passenger cars with these these are becoming less and less popular with consumers than so GM is making a move here to close these three plants because the problem is the union is saying that's fine. These things don't make money. But can't you put some products in here that do make money, and meanwhile, GM is making some SUV's down to Mexico, for example. Right. And this is not just General Motors. We must say Ford, either leave was the carmaker that said, it would stop making mid sized and smaller cars altogether. Am I not correct on that? Yeah. All but the Mustang and in maybe one or two other models, but Fiat Chrysler actually started this trend to three or four years ago when they said that they were going to end car production, and that raises a lot eyebrows. Announce almost becoming commonplace with four having said it earlier this year GM is still going to make several passenger car models or not going as far. The other two, but it just shows you that these things number one aren't as profitable as vs and trucks, there's bigger profit margins in those vehicles and number two, that's where all the volumes going. I mean five years ago, the market was split pretty evenly between cars and then trucks STV's advance. Now, it's like seventy percent the truck category. So that the companies are seeing where this is headed, and they just wanted get their manufacturing footprint in the US to the point where they're making the things that they can make money on right? And also the cost of gas the still relatively low cost of gasoline. Plays into this as well, doesn't it? Yeah. I mean, that's definitely pushed people toward bigger vehicles. But what the companies are betting the come of the Detroit companies that are walking away from cars or betting that the new breed of of SUV's crossover SUV's that are essentially, you know, some people like to call him tall cars. You know, they're they're essentially the same underpinnings as as the cars, but they get really good gas mileage. I mean, a Chevy equinox is an SUV that gets almost. Forty miles a gallon on the highway. So the the companies are betting that people aren't gonna want to return to cars. Even if gas prices spike does GM also need the money to focus on fuel efficient technologies. Yeah. I mean, that's the other big piece of this. What one is the shift away from cars, but the second very important pieces. What is what you're saying that the advanced technologies that these guys now have to to invest in whereas three or five years ago wasn't even really on the radar in terms of electric cars autonomous cars, which are further out. But they're still having a poor a lot of money into those. And so they're kind of looking at these factories that are making conventionally powered gasoline powered cars that Americans are showing a whole lot of interest in in. They're saying, hey, wait a minute. We could plow some of this money into our future talking about the labor force..
