"The acting DHS secretary. Nielsen will soon talk to reporters outside of Virginia home the US labeling. Ron's revolutionary guard corps a foreign terrorist organization. Speaking at the State Department of day of Mike Pompeo said if that that is ample justification for the move against the I R and also call it just and long overdue. The US move puts more economic and political pressure on Iran's Islamic regime pump accused Iran of going outlaw behavior and promoting instability. The volatile Middle East. We should not be in a situation where individual private tax returns are used for political purposes. ABC's Serena Marshall, join me on KOMO news sign and talks about where this fight could go. Serena what what's the latest on this story? Well, right now, it's kind of at a standstill democrat on the house who Quested tax tax returns actually request them from the IRS Commissioner David deadline of the tent right now. The White House is trying to say there's no legal justification for that request. And they're going to probably try and fight. It likelihood this will end up in court. But right now the request officially does the IRS Commissioner which point lot to see if they'll follow through. Okay. As for the Democrats also calling for turning general William bar to release a special counsel Muller's full report, and he is likely face full questions about that report. And also were the molar could be headed to Capitol Hill to testify. Yeah. That's right. The report request from the Muller and for that full report released it the previously the attorney general had said that we could probably mid April around there. So that's kind of on edge right now seen if that will come through the attorney general will be on Capitol Hill this week testifying on their budget request nothing to do with special counsel investigation. But you can imagine where these questions are going to be focused all around that summary letter that he wrote a with if he will release that bull report or not, and we'll have to wait and see when new hearing up at tomorrow and Wednesday. How does will unfold we'll get more details about that Muller report? But at the same time, you mentioned Muller himself could be up on Capitol Hill to testify top Republican in the House Judiciary committee. But unredacted highly unlikely there's classified information there that will have to be redacted. There's grand jury information that will always be maintained as private both sides of. Agreed. That information needs to be stripped. But whether or not publicly redacted version will come out isn't even bigger question. Will they release a private version just two members of Capitol Hill or will they at the same time make it fully public both sides both members of that boat aisles. "Accounts that can be opened from anywhere Capital One. What's in your wallet, Capital One? And a and the listeners of K Q E D, we'll have mostly cloudy skies around the bay area tonight with temperatures in the low to mid fifties. Tomorrow, mostly cloudy, a slight chance of showers. Hours in the afternoon. Mostly in the north bay temperatures tomorrow in the sixties to low seventies. This is all things considered from NPR news. I'm show Martin. Now, we're going to address the breaking news out of Washington. Homeland security secretary curse to Nielsen will be leaving her position. President Trump tweeted this information a short time ago to talk more about this. We've called Representative Joaquin Castro. He's a democratic congressman from Texas. He represents much of San Antonio not far from the us Mexico border. And he's with us now commerce when Castro thank you so much for joining us once again. Yeah. Thanks for having me. What's your reaction to this news? That secretary Nielsen is leaving. Well, you know, I thought that she should resign before when she was not honest with congress about the plan to separate families sometime ago. She also was not honest when she came in front of the congressional Hispanic caucus, which I chair and after the question very directly whether she had any knowledge of children who had died or been seriously injured in the government's custody. And she said, no, and it turned out that wasn't true. So she leaves behind very tortured legacy of separating families remain in Mexico policy. Just last week where the Commissioner back Alina who's now apparently going to be acting secretary. They literally staged a press conference where they had women and children behind fences with razor wire. And so it's a very troubled legacy. And now, I gotta say about her. I really think that anybody that comes in President Trump. Realm that doing immigration is gonna get up into doing it the way that he does it. So I'm not saying that the things I described were all her ideas, but she certainly stepped up to take the job. And I think history will show that she was part of these very ugly policies. President Trump has been signaling some kind of change over the last week in the last couple of days, certainly where he pulled his his nominee for customs and border protection for the head of that agency saying he wants to go in a quote unquote tougher direction. How do you interpret that? What do you think he means by that? Well, I mean, you see what they're doing in. You know, as I mentioned that press conference where they stage those folks behind chain link fences razor wire having sleep on the cloud for three or four nights, or whatever it was. And the thing about that policy is that he's convinced that if as a nation, we just get crueler in terms of how we treat migrants that less people will try to come here, but the exact opposite happened there. More people trying to come here. So his policy is a total failure. And I don't see how getting meaner or crueler is gonna help. Do you have any concerns at all about making this change in the middle of this surge at at the border? I understand, of course, you've made it very clear that you disagree with his policies. You've also made it clear that you think some of his policies are in part responsible for what we're seeing at the border. But do you have any concerns about this? Seems to be complete shakeup at the top of the of this agency in the middle of the situation. Yeah. I mean, you have to question. And honestly, I hadn't thought about that. We just got the news. But look, I think Donald Trump if of all of the different policy areas that we deal with in the federal government education, healthcare immigration, so forth. I think this is the one that he probably pays attention to the most. And this is the area where he's most in control or the people close to most in control. So I think anybody that comes in and takes that job is essentially going to be absolutely marching to Donald Trump's drumbeat and just end this, very news. We're just learning of this ourselves as well. I just wonder if you have any sense of whether a secretary Nielsen was pushed or did she jump herself? Does that matter does it matter whether she was on whether she was fired, you know, to be honest, probably not, you know, I had conversations with Republican colleagues in congress over the last several months who say that that they've known her personally. And that she's not the person that is described in the media that she's not this cold hearted person who's trying to inflict pain on my grits. But look at the end of the day, if you take a job that call for you to do that and enact these policies, then you're on the hook for what is it ministration? And so, you know, and I have to agree with them to some point before all of this before she was part of the Trump administration. There wasn't necessarily an indication that she was malicious towards people. But like I said she's been part of what he's going to go down in history as a very very disturbing period, you know, nation's history in terms of how we treat people. Well to your point that the policies are what are relevant now. Do you have any plans to call secretary Nielsen before you again for recent do you have any questions for her that she can now answer because she's no longer part of the administration? Go sure I mean, we would she hit agreed to go and come in front of Hispanic. Doc again. And of course, now she's resigning or leaving her job. So I don't we don't have subpoena power. So I don't know that you'll end up doing that. But I absolutely think that that the homeland security committee and the judiciary committee. They absolutely should try to bring her back and after questions that you know, that we all still have about the situation. Give me just you have thirty seconds left. What what is one question that you have for her that you'd like to hear don't know, we still don't know why these families were separated without a system to track them there? Still is no answer to that. And the government can take two years to finally reunite families that were separated that is consonant walking Tasso. His democrat from Texas comes from. Thank you so much for talking to us. Thank you. We're going to continue the conversation with NPR national political correspondent Mara Liasson. Mara, thanks so much for joining us. Happy to be here. What does this mean? I think it means that the president who had been frustrated with secretary Nielsen frustrated with the surge of asylum-seekers at the border just decided to make a change. And he did this the other day where he took down his nominee for ice, immigration and customs enforcement said we're going in tougher direction. And he had we know complained in the past that Nielsen hadn't been tough enough. And maybe he has something in mind where he will have a quote tougher looking policy towards the border with tougher looking people as sort of following this the story in real time, and you can see the anonymous sources are different messages to different networks as they are want to do some suggesting that she resigned because she was frustrated others suggesting that she was fired because the president was frustrated you have incited which of those versions is true. I think she was frustrated, and I think she was asked to resign. I think that she was why widely kind of on thin ice for so long. I think that the story really is that how long she lasted not so much that he decided to fire her many people expected her to be removed from the cabinet right after the midterm elections. That didn't happen to seem that she was on firmer ground with the president. She made many trips to the border. She certainly delivered his message about the border, but he's unhappy. He's unhappy knock just with the fact that there's been a surge of migrant families the border, but also all of the things that he's tried to do. I haven't worked out. Remember just this week? He said he was going to close the border then he backed down from that. He's talked about putting tariffs on Mexico. If they don't stop immigration and drugs, but he can't do that. Because of the new US MCA the new renegotiated NAFTA agreement that he signed. So the president's frustrated about the. The border and he wants a new people. So the president said on Twitter that the new person will be the current at least the acting person will be the current customs and border protection Commissioner Kevin Macalinsan. What do we know about him? And do we expect that he might have a better relationship with President Trump interested? Nielsen seem to have since as you pointed out, she seemed to struggle mightily, certainly in her in her utterances, absolutely reaffirmed his policy and projected his point of view on these issues. My I don't think that that. Kevin McLean is going to be the permanent. Homeland security secretary. There are other names that we've heard including Rick Perry who's currently the energy secretary. But the president has a very large number of acting secretaries right now, he's actually said he likes having people who are acting it gives them more flexibility, and especially on the border where he feels so strongly. This is such a top issue for him immigration stopping immigration, the kind of fear of immigrants coming over the border to do harm to Americans, which is a constant theme of his is something that will be a centerpiece of his reelection campaign. And I think that more than anything else you'll see him driving policy on the border, not necessarily whoever takes over from Kingston Nielsen Mara. We only have a couple of seconds left. But you've also pointed out that many of the president has been frustrated in part by the law. Is there any strategy that he's implying to try to address the fact that legal issues have kept him from implementing the policies that he prefers? Well, he's tried several things. And they haven't worked out he talked about closing the border. He's talked about superseding the US MCA with tariff some punishment in other words on Mexico. But the one thing that he has succeeded in doing is making the border, and what he calls the crisis at the border front and center in the media narrative, and that is the way that he succeeded. He thinks this is a very important issue for him and his base in the next election that is NPR national political correspondent Mara Liasson. Mark, thank you so much. Thank you. DHS Secretary Kirtjen Nielsen faces fierce questioning over Trump immigration policy

"Up DHS secretary Nielsen defends the. Immigration policies in a contentious hearing CBS news update homeland security secretary Kirsten Nielsen was backing up her boss in testimony before the house today saying the border security emergency is not trumped up immigration is simply spiraling out of control in threatening public safety and national security. Nielsen telling the homeland security committee that twice as many illegal immigrants cross the border last month twice that of last year face a crisis, a real serious and sustained crisis at our borders. We have tens of thousands of illegal aliens arriving at our doorstep every month, we have drugs, criminals and violence, spilling into our country every week, California Democrat, and then that Diaz baragan took issue with the administration's border policy to give direction on how to implement the zero tolerance policy because you wanted to do with compassion. "Have been seeing fifty to sixty thousand migrants arrive at our southern border each month. And in February. We saw thirty percent jump over the previous month with agents apprehending or encountering nearly seventy five thousand aliens and at the current pace, we're on track to encounter close to one million illegal aliens out our southern border this year that children are being used as pawns to get into our country. We have encountered recycling rings were innocent. Young people are used multiple times to help aliens gain illegal entry as a nation. We simply cannot stand for this. We must fix the system. No rational person would design an immigration system. Like we have today. It's dangerous for Americans. It's dangerous for migrants. It undermines our nation's values, and it fails to uphold our fundamental obligations to the American people. All right. That was secretary of homeland security Kerstin Neil saying the situation at the southern border is dangerous and growing worse. It is not a manufactured crisis Senator Graham joins us now. From the great state of South Carolina. Well, thanks for having me. Secretary Nielsen and the border patrol Commissioner made a compelling case that things are getting worse across the board three hundred and thirty five percent increase in families apprehended. Compared to last year. Fifty four percent increase in unaccompanied minors. It costs us one hundred and thirty six thousand dollars a year to house unaccompanied minor. Our law is such that only two percent of the company minors captured after handed every built back to their home country. We're screaming to the world if you can get to the Americas of family or unaccompanied minor. Never lied and will approach ING seven hundred thousand illegal crossings this year. I mean, that's almost twice or what we had last year. Do you think in part, it's because because it's interesting I mean, when Nikki Haley left, and she said, she had the authority to tell certain countries certain things that Donald Trump would will do. There was power behind what she said because they believed Donald Trump. They they think he's a man of his word. I'm assuming people in these countries are now saying, oh, this guy's building the wall. The door is about to be closed. Let's get there sooner than later. Well, yeah. But it's not that a lot of them show up to the port of entry can claim the Salom twenty percent of the people claim a Salam actually receive a solemn. So eighty seven percent of illegal crossings in this country happen inbetween ports of entry. That's why you need a wall. Twenty percent of drugs now coming outside the port of entries. That's why you need a wall. But if you had to pick between the wall and changing our laws, the border patrol in our laws that require us to release people into the country before their Judy created is the busy biggest magnitude illegal immigration. So if you're unaccompanied minor under American law, we can only hold you for twenty days within turnover to labor HHS in two percent of the people return over ever leave the country. If your family you get captured as a family under our law. We can only hold you for twenty day period and most of the fan. Families are released into the United States who an NGO taken to a bus terminal. That's why they're flooding the country. Well, if we don't get it done now, I don't know what wherever we're going to get it done. You don't see? Now, the president will veto this Bill that would stop the use of emergency declaration. You don't see any way that the house and Senate would override that veto do, you know, so the president's gonna win in congress. I think you'll win in court. There's a statute that allows a president to declare an emergency and move money out of the military construction budget meet that emergency after today, if you don't believe we have a crisis on the national the southern border. You're just blind the crisis so moving the money around from one account to another is allowed by the statute. I think the president's got went on court and court he's having Speedo sustained. We'll get the money to build the wall. But what did I learn today, if you don't change our salad laws if you don't change the floor is decision that limits detaining people twenty days. Fix this problem. Let me give people to statutory the statute the legislative authority that is given to the president ten USC to eighty four be seven. I think is the best candidate of all of the Mike Lee was the first person appointed out to me. And when you get to seven be it says types of support for agencies of the US the purposes for which the secretary may provide support under subsection a for other department agencies or the federal government or state, local or tribal law enforcement agency, the following construction of roads, fences and installation of of lighting to block drug smuggling corridors across the international boundaries of the United States. Now, the cross-reference subsection aide says that the president has the right to build the barrier so legislatively constitutionally, I think it's pretty clear. Okay. So this is important. I'm glad people listen to your show that statue. Shoot allows you to move money around in the department of defense. Budgets to Bill Berry's. If you meet it up to four billion the point that the president's making is it when you look at the needs. That's not enough. There's another statute that allows the president that declare player a national emergency and move money around in the military construction budget to whatever that national emergency is that's where might lead another say, wait a minute. The congress did not appropriate money and the military construction budget for a wall. You can't take it and turn it into that use the emergency authority granted by the statute. I disagree. I think he can. I think he will. I think he's gonna win and court. Yeah. I think so too. So what's the vote going to be as the president vetoes the override I probably would be stopped in the house. Correct. Yeah. Well, sorry. Now, you got forty five votes. You need to eighty five you really need to ninety. Everybody's president. But based on the votes he needed to eighty five. There were forty votes short. We're not going to get anywhere near sixty seven votes disapproving emergency declaration. So he's gonna win and both houses of congress. When it goes to court what the president will say, wait a minute. Congress did act. They disapprove the resolution. I vetoed it in the congress sustained by veto acting. I think he's gonna win across the board. All right. Let's talk about the the what is now happening in the house. You work their way back in the day once upon a time, and I've never seen a situation emerge like this. Where not only what the Democrats are proposing one hundred of the most supporting is apps, an a prescription for absolute economic disaster beyond even a depression, which would be to eliminate oil and gas, the lifeblood of our economy and with that the combustion engine and with that we're going to get rid of airplanes and cows, and we're gonna force every American a rebuild their home. And we'll all going to have the same insurance that nobody can have private health insurance. But it's guaranteed. Just like you're guaranteed a job and a vacation and family leave a medical leave and just like you're guaranteed healthcare and just like a guaranteed, retirement and. And now with the wealth tax of Elizabeth Warren. We'll add daycare to the list between that and the announcement of endless nonstop. You know, the whitest net fishing expedition ever in the history of congress are they abusing their powers. Well, the policy positions are not abusing power is just really stupid CBO says the green deal new green deal would call ninety three trillion dollars to implement that will completely thank we're up the country. We don't have that much money at six hundred thousand dollars per person Medicare for all eventually means Medicare for nobody Bernie's going invite eighty billion of his closest friends to join you when you get into Medicare. We've never paid into the system fully. So these are really bad policy choices in terms of abusing power, but Nadler's doing in. My view is trying to get an outcome. That was predetermined before the election. We'll be ready set. Not ready said more. We know the president of struck Justice is it's not an investigation. It's he already has. Right. Yeah. They determined after they got the house back. This guy's gotta go. So you gotta be an air Steiner put over the guy's name is spending money, right and left against any democrat who fails to vote against impeachment. So what Nadler's done is created a political goal which is impeach the president. And he's in search of trying to find facts to support that goal. They have determined that they're going to try to destroy Donald Trump and his family. They're not gonna work with him on infrastructure prescription drugs. They determined to change American socialist country other than that, they should do very well in twenty twenty who do you think emerges because if you take the cheating of Hillary Clinton out of the two thousand sixteen primary Bernie Sanders would've won that nomination. Right. So does that mean the base of the Democratic Party today is the one I described as radical extreme democratic socialist got hit the loop? For saying, I'm extreme modern. So there are some people pushing back I'm dying to see what moderate looks like. We know what Medicare for all would do to Medicare with destroyed it would collapse private healthcare. And you'd have put over the government gives you when they choose to give it to you. The new green deal with destroy the economy in perpetuity. I'm curious to see what Hickenlooper would do what is a moderate version of these policies. I know what Trump's gonna do. He's gonna take your healthcare dollars block granting back to the states. So people close to you can make decisions. And if you don't like it, then vote for I know what he's gonna do your taxes. He's going to lower the tax code to make it competitive. I know what he's gonna do the to be Bill, but what he's gonna do terrorists. He's gonna kill him. I know you're gonna do to supreme court. He's going to make it more conservative. So I liked the contrast. Well, let's talk about the Muller report, which we keep hearing becoming out any day. Nobody even knows if it does come out if it's ever going to be released to the public. We have hand. By rod Rosenstein that it is not the big blockbuster collusion. Conclusion that everybody's been feeding us for two years. And I think what I'm being told that that there is now a real effort to hit the reset button and all of the abuses of power within the Justice department and the FBI among the upper echelon are going to be investigated. They're going to be indictments. We still are awaiting Horowitz report, the inspector general's report and John Hoover's report. And what do you expect as it relates to Muller, and you know, this two year witch-hunt lesson tack that? So the pollution is really conspiracy. The question is what here conspiracy between the Trump campaign, the president and foreign intelligence services or agencies to benefit from the after the DNC emails raise it I feel confident. There's not is no one's been choice for the conspiracy people that would be in position to inspire with the Russians Manafort other folks like that have all been charged. Charged with crimes outside of conspiracy unrelated working with the Russians. So if nobody's been charged with conspiracy is pretty hard for me to believe there is one listen, if you believe in the second amendment, and or a responsible gun owner like I m well, that's what the USCCA's all about. But also they want you to win one of the most popular in advance nineteen eleven's on the market..

"Thank you secretary Nielsen. Thank you very much. We're doing a great job of the border considering what have the tools that don't give us the tools to work with me? We have to have a barricade of some kind just barricaded. It's already designed. We're building a wall as we speak a tremendous amount. And we're renovating the otherwise, by the way with what's coming up because of the strong economy that we have. We haven't had an economy like this. I guess it over fifty years. Would you say that's correct? And because of the strong academy everyone's pouring up, and we're stopping them. But it's a lot of work. We have been incredible people at the border and you have to thank all of the border patrol agents and the ice agents. I see in Long Island. They don't want ice the the radical Democrats don't want us there because they're too good job. And I always talk about that's one of the real hot beds for for the MS, thirteen gangs. And I just seen this morning where the really radical Democrats don't want them because they don't wanna do anything to disturb MS thirteen. And when you think about it MS thirteen about the most violent gang. They say one of the most violent anywhere in the world. And they have done we're sending them out by the thousands out of our country. So we think it's too bad. But I would say this that the state of the union speech has been cancelled by Nancy Pelosi because she doesn't want to hear the truth. She doesn't want the American public to what's going on. She's afraid of the truth, and the super left Democrats, the radical Democrats what's going on in that party is shocking. I know many people that were Democrats switching over right down the switching over quickly. So.

Judge bars enforcement of new Trump restrictions on asylum seekers

"They cannot handle more. And what's interesting is that both sides argue here that the wait times that those official points of entry can be days if not weeks, so this is just the latest example of the president trying to change regulations to kind of clamp down essentially on existing law. What the judge said though, was he was overstepping his authority basically stepping on turf that has been. Been congresses for many years now who took this into court. This case was brought by the ACLU you heard from legal. Learnt who was the lawyer who argued the case in federal court yesterday. They are representing along with some other civil rights groups organizations that provide services to asylum seekers many of these asylum seekers come from the northern triangle, countries, Guatemala, Honduras, and Salvador, many are claiming that they're fleeing violence and persecution and the argument for the temporary restraining order, which the scale you ultimately got was that it's a violation of immigration laws. We laid out earlier that a lot of the time people are doing this by accident or because their push to. And and so essentially the judge sided with them at the end of the day temporary restraining order, meaning the arguments aren't over here. Exactly the department of homeland security hasn't commented on this judge's ruling. We're waiting to see how secretary Nielsen. And of course, President Trump and self respond, but it's worth noting that judge tiger was appointed by President Obama that might be a line of criticism. We see in the coming hours and days. Specifically what we're watching for is will the department of Justice appeal this decision. The ninth circuit court of appeal. Okay. Lily Jamali co host of the California report at thanks. "Of june in another sign of detente following the summit between kim jong un and president trump north korea's decided to skip one of the most symbolic and politically charged events of the calendar the annual anti us imperialism rally marking the start of the korean war now last year's event was held on kim il sung square with a reported one hundred thousand people attending north korea even issued special anti us postage stamps also outside of the us turkey's national electoral board is pronounced incumbent president recep tayyip air to one as the winner of the country's presidential election with an absolute majority of valid votes speaking in televised remarks from stan bowl sunday the sixty four year old said the nation quote has entrusted to me the responsibility of the presidency and the executive duty that's that's no joke folks sunday's election putting into force a stronger presidential system allowing air to want to form the government appoint ministers vice president top bureaucrats issued decrees prepare the budget and impose states of emergency president trump's attempting to highlight the plight of americans whose loved ones killed by who whose loved ones were killed by those in the country illegally of the president friday hosted what he called angel families while thousands of children separated from their parents sit along the us mexico border you lost will not have been in vain we will secure our borders and we will make sure that they're properly taken care of eventually the word will get out we've got to have a safe country i always hear that oh would know the population safer than the people that live in the country you've heard that fellas right we've heard that here so much and i see is that possible the answer's not true here's like they're better people than what we have in our citizens it's not true they were released back into our civilian population and these gentlemen had to do some of the releasing and i don't think he would too happy when you knew because you knew they know better than anybody you knew what you were releasing you knew it was trouble and it often comes back to be trouble where is the media outrage over the catch and release policies that allow deadly drugs to pour into our country whereas the condemnation of the democrats sanctuary cities that released violent criminals into our communities and then protect them like the mayor of san diego once you warned everybody that isis coming and they scattered and where's the outcry over the savage gang ms thirteen and it's bloodthirsty creed kill rape and control because the news media has overlooked their stories i want the american people to hear directly from these families about the pain they've had to endure losing not only their loved ones great people president trump has spoken out about angel families often referencing the group he justifies his hardline policies on illegal immigration meanwhile republican leaders are trying to get the votes they need for their wide ranging immigration bill their support from dueling conservative and moderate wings of the republican party but house freedom caucus member jim jordan part of that and servative wing says house leadership is the problem america's most welcoming country on the planet but you gotta you gotta follow the law secretary nielsen has been real clear you show up to a port of entry your family would be kept together you will go through the process and we'll see if you're actually a legitimate asylum seeker what i do know is when i was in our office so we can hap ago they told me eighty percent of the folks seeking asylum wind up not getting it they're not actually eligible for it so we want to sort that all out do it in a way that consistent with the law the definition for claiming asylum as well you can no longer playing this gang violence eighty percent eighty this is straight from the folks at immigration and customs enforcement so they're they're telling me the number eighty percent aren't actually legitimate asylum seekers we need to sort that out but yeah we want to welcome folks who come here for legitimate reasons who want to do it by the rule of law who follow all we want to welcome here but mostly what we wanna do margaret is the mandate from the twenty sixteen election was real clear the american people may donald trump president made republicans the majority in the house and the senate to build the border security wall stop chain migration in the.

"Get pummeled the president especially but republicans in every level over images of children separated from their parents audio of the children crying and attention centers and a growing political nightmare because it's a moral failure that say spiritual and religious failing it's an undefendable policy and when you send attorney general sessions out and he says no this isn't nazi germany the nazi try to keep the jewish from leaving the country that doesn't work and when president trump goes out and says it's not my fault that doesn't work it started in april when jeff sessions said we're going to prosecute everyone that meant they went to jail not detention centers when they go to jail that kids are separated what we need is the cruise bill ted cruz put forward a bill what we don't need is secretary nielsen who went to the podium in the briefing room yesterday and just got hammered let's give a few cut the secretary nielsen two hundred bass doing but this is just not defensible cut number seven you start with a few numbers and facts so in the last three months we have seen illegal immigration on our southern border exceeds fifty thousand people each month multiples over each month last year since this time last year there has been a three hundred and twenty five percent increase in unaccompanied alien children and a four hundred and thirty five percent increase in family units entering the country illegally over the last ten years there has been a one thousand seven hundred percent increase in asylum claims resulting in silent backlog today on our country of six hundred thousand cases since two thousand thirteen the united states has admitted more than half a million illegal immigrant miners and family units from central america most of whom today are at large in the united states so it's a big problem six hundred thousand unadjudicated asylum claims is a big problem it's not responsive the question isn't unaccompanied minors that's easy the question isn't the asylum adjudication that's easy it's what do you do with people awaiting asylum adjudication you can't release them because of the ankle bracelets are cut off and they vanish you have to house them in detention centers and you have to house them with parents with children when they are the biological children that's the cruise bill cut number eight and finally dhs is not separating families legitimately seeking asylum at ports of entry if an adult enters at a port of entry in claims asylum they will not face prosecution for illegal entry they have not committed a crime they coming to the poor doesn't help to avoid the question this is what gets me crazy about public officials i like secretary nobody's saying you're separating children at ports of entry people saying you're separating children from their parents as they crossed the border illegally not at present themselves for asylum the ports of entry nobody you're arguing against a straw man it's what president obama used to do the trump craziest setup straw man argument this is a straw man nobody is saying you're doing that so why argue about it why not focus on the fact the fact the fact that we are separating children from families that's the if you want to defend it defend it but don't use straw men because people understand it's a straw man keep on entry as i mentioned vhs does have responsibility protect minors and in that case as well we will only separate the family if we cannot determine there is a familiar relationship if the child may be at risk with the parent or legal guardian or if the parent or legal guardian is referred for prosecution we have a duty stock or if the parent is referred for prosecution sin they're all being referred for prosecution they are separated why even try this general sessions came on this show on june six two weeks ago said this what we're doing we're referring everyone for prosecution and that means kids get separated now securing nielsen pushes back against the allegation they're not being well taken care of i want go give her say cut number ten children in dhs an hsa custody are being well taken care of the department of health and human services officer refugee resettlement provides meals medical care and educational services cities children they're provided temporary shelter in hhs works hard to find.

"Don't cross the border illegally present yourself at a port of entry while the aclu has a lawsuit now challenging family separation that's going to be decided and he day it shows that many many parents are presenting themselves at a port of entry legally ask for asylum and still having their child taken away from them are lead plaintiff is a congolese mom who presented herself at a port of entry with her then six year old daughter after four days the daughter was ripped away from her the mother could hear the daughter the next room begging pleading please don't take me away from my mom please don't take me away from my mommy she was sent to chicago the mother was kept in san diego for four months mother was given no information about why the little child was taken this is apparent like many other parents who presented themselves at a port of entry so it's simply not true that you can avoid having your child taken from you if you presented a port of entry the second critical point that no one ever asked the attorney general secretary nielsen is will what happens when the parent gets out of jail after the few days for the misdemeanor is the cia returned and the answer is no our other named plaintiff goes by missy she crossed the border with her son fleeing domestic violence in brazil crossed the border got time served for the misdemeanor child was taken away and sent to chicago she was in texas she was released from criminal jail it's been more than seven months and she was released from criminal jail and still has not gotten her child back we know how much this is costing americans the taxpayer that's a very good question we are in the process i think of calculating how much it will cost but ultimately the fundamental question has to be sort of humanity of of what's going on i think that if policy makers could sit in one of those rooms and see these little kids three.
