"You're okay and then you had to raskin nut who apparently was injured which we knew but maybe i was mismanaged may be and should've place at a rask considering he was injured and probably got a little ahead of myself there. But there's a ton of things i feel like. This management team did wrong in this series and apparently has been doing so. Yeah i would say he's out this season so i think that these comments were like a desperation claw to try and save his job. And that's my thing. I didn't even i completely forgot that. Thank god he mentioned about to grasp Yeah yeah. I think that plays such a huge. Such a huge factor in the series. I'm not discrediting obviously. Because you know. I do. I want to say the my second team. Maybe they probably are. Because i do enjoy watching them when but I don't know man it's like what did he have a torn off right. The fucking in torn lieberman his hip. I forgot exactly if there was anything else. Involved they're put. That's worth labor much. Yeah and seventy eight months of recovery So he won't be ready. Yeah with lieberman degrees. And i know from experience my shoulder. 'cause i actually had that operated on you're able to live with it. You're able to do things with it whether or not your hips. Different probably is especially considering all your waste probably on it but Yeah labor sox fan. So seventy months specially being in the hip area. That's awful and i got to say to is one of the one of the only players. I like boston and seeing that sucks for him and And something else say. I gotta go. French has really quick. I feel like boston. Fans are so quick to attack to rask. And it's like so when you wash playwright. I feel like he's not one of those goals. It's very flashy. He's not a flurry you know. He's not a hash. Ich you know what i mean. He's not gonna make all these like spiraling stays in the By the rolling pads as he's not gonna make those because he's always in position he's a very position on goaltender very calm he. He's never out of position and when he does get goals scored on him. They squeaked through them. They bounced through him. They take you know what i mean. And so it's like yeah. I like boston. Fans take this sometimes. Not and i'm generalizing. But i feel like that occasionally. Boston fans will sit there and be like all year rascal to get out. Rossi's betrayed needs to leave the team. Because like he's like he's letting in goals and they look bad but because he's not i don't know he's just i don't know i feel like some people want him to be more of like a flashy goals than than he is. You know and. I feel like i've been reading. I'm sorry to interrupt. But i i've been reading some stuff from boston fans and they're just saying like all let rasco or trade rask or whatever and it's like man like why are you saying this. He was carrying Carries usually when he plays you know he. I think he's still one of the top goaltender league when he's not injured right and so it's like to see that and to think that that's the problem instead of especially in this series when you're scoring like you were mentioning you did not have any scoring. Besides their top line. You want to be gone from the organization after all he's done for the team always done for the city and you want him gone and i. I hate defending a bruin right now. But it's like i'm still sour from twenty eleven but i mean come on man get a grip..

Rossi seventy months second team twenty eleven rasco seventy eight months lieberman one trade rask one of French goals Boston one of the top goaltender boston labor sox

"And now i want to go ahead and welcome back to the gmc sports podcast. I'm your host. Noah dunlap so in the last segment. We talked a little bit about the ending of the first round series for the nba. Playoffs looked at what we have. So far in terms of the second round in also looked forward to jazz clippers. Tonight game one of the second round Now switch gears away from basketball for the rest of the show and here in the segment. I want to go ahead and look at the. Nc aa baseball tournament for anyone who is listening to me before. Y'all know a huge college baseball fan. I think college baseball is one of the most sports that we have in america. And if i can do anything to get more attention to that sport i want to do that. So the nc double a. tournament just started this weekend with the regional round sixteen different regionals going on throughout the country. All leading into eight super regionals next weekend but so now all sixteen regionals are done except for one that has been delayed due to weather and that comes from columbia south carolina. But i wanna break down what we have so far with these regionals and what we know and what we've kinda watched over the weekend so let's just go and start in order and just work our way down from the one seed all the way down through the sixteen regional. Arkansas was the one seed and they got pushed a lot harder than i think they wanted to. Arkansas got pushed to a deciding game seven in their regional against the nebraska cornhuskers and this was surprising to a lot of people. However i don't know that it could be surprising to me. I kind of expected this and the reason for that is arkansas manager. Dave van horn was at nebraska before he got to arkansas. So even though none of these players were around because he's been up in fayetteville for years now but while none of these nebraska players are are around and were around back then the program itself knows and you best believe. That's a motivating factor. So arkansas getting pushed surprised. A lot of people didn't necessarily surprise me all that much But as what happens when you're the number one seed and the best team in america they found a way to get it done late in game. Seven against nebraska and arkansas is moving on to the super regionals where they will be hosting The two seed the texas longhorns. Out in austin absolutely ran through their regional head no issues at all Took care of fairfield in the regional. Final fairfield great regular season only lost three games. Which in baseball terms is just absolutely absurd. The problem is they come from a small conference and they just didn't have the arms to match up especially that late in the regional. They finally ran out of arms and forthy regional final. They threw a guy who had not been all year due to an injury and who last year in a limited number of innings pitched headache. Twenty two point four. I believe it was. Er a texas lit him up in the first inning and it kinda went as you would expect and texas just rolls through their regional relatively easy. The three see the tennessee. Volunteers wild wacky bizarre regional out in knoxville. This weekend tennessee having to hang on in their opener against right state behind a walk off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth. Tennessee was down eight five going into the bottom of the night against right state on friday night when drew gilbert just hit a ball to the moon. And if you haven't seen that clip yet i suggest you go find it because it was monstrous. This was a moonshot. If you've ever seen one and the celebration afterwards we all need more of. I know a lot of people talk about unwritten rules and baseball this that and everything else. All of. that's boring. True gilbert celebration afterwards absolutely more of it inject that my boys and girls the bet flip that he sent through the atmosphere as he rounded third and made his way to home plate he throws his helmet and it lands out close to second base. I love all of this. So this tennessee team. While i'm an old guy. I can get behind this tennessee team because they are just fun to watch and they know how to have fun while they do it. So props tennessee for making it through a tough regional. If you listen to the show last time i was on a toll jaw. I thought duke was going to win. This regional duke did not even advance to the regional final as they got bounced by liberty. The two games they played against liberty they just struggled mightily as the flames had their number but nonetheless tennessee advances out in the knoxville regional vanderbilt. Another wild one out in nashville vanderbilt survives georgia tech to advance on a walk off grand slam another one this time in the bottom of the twelfth of the regional final against georgia tech by isaiah thomas so props to the vanderbilt commodores for advancing and moving on Five seat at arizona swept through their tucson regional with out any real issues got pushed just a little bit by santa barbara in the regional final but arizona managed to hang on and take care of business there st succeed with. Tcu is where we got our first surprise. Tcu bounced out of their own regional by the oregon state beavers and then oregon state loses to dallas baptist in the regional final out there oregon state one game six to actually force a game seven and just didn't have enough in game seven to knock out dallas baptist who they would add twice so props to dallas.

"I know i know that was last week but still See i'm going to go with me. Go renton him. All right Not a bad choice at all. I'd say curdle player. I can't believe that point streak seventeen. That's ridiculous dude. I know. I wonder what the record is. I mean we look that up easily. But i don't know playoff point streak record. Nhl gretzky thirty five nine probably It looks like it's on the islanders. Twenty seven oh twenty-seven right yep yep rain early eighties and you got gordie howe right behind him twenty two. I say right by them but he's had twenty two tim. We'll maybe well run in right now. He's at eight three now and he's right behind gretzky. Only has eighteen look surprisingly but three times. Yeah rain gretzky three times. He had an eighteen point. Streak while it's fucking bonkers bro. Absolutely insane so going to be interesting. See oh my god pavel bure a with the knox their sixteen Man i wish they cannot say kept them. Yeah well anyway florida. I think that's about all i have for this week's episodes such a weird one recording on a saturday felt off but i definitely feel out of it still. I know we don't have the beer kicking a nasty right. We're we're in too bad but it was like fifty dollars more so now i'm looking at tickets and the price is only going up. You think the day of they will go lower but will now with playoffs. Playoffs is different during the regular season. Yeah the tickets are literally only getting more expensive as time goes on. How much are they right now. Well minus fees which are fifty dollars each It's a hundred and seventy two dollars each ticket for opportu thirty-seven row fifteen. I'd fees into that and you know there's two of us going so it's just become an be a little bit too much so we might try and sneak into game. Six hopefully aches if it goes to game six which hopefully hopefully it does. Yeah one would hope well anyway guys. Enough aboard mir with a ticket finding We'll see you guys here next week. "I think it's definitely going to be a good experiment right with all these young guys so if it works and it works out great and how the but then if not then you know you you have young guys. You could probably move around on your squad well. And that's the thing. The canucks need in impact from their young players considering their calf situation this year. You know This is the last year of a lot of shitty contracts on the team. The russo beagle An ericsson deal deals It's the last deal of those gnat alone up. thirteen million. I think those three contracts when they get off the books So man yeah. I you know they need to be Be creative this off season. Jim benning said he wants to be aggressive. Shimmy better be aggressive and creative and smart about it and there goes along oregon. So yeah that really is. All i should say on again wasn't much The cdns they're still figuring out their role organization Apparently they're looking at assistant. Gm roles but you know. I don't know man should be should be entertaining especially with the draft then to the pick ninth Yemen i'm excited. Yeah no definitely. We'll have to dive deeper into that. When we go over our traffic's because picking night that that's not a bad pick at all. You could definitely find somebody to fall down that far or you know a diamond in the rough. A gem as nhl twenty one would say a jam all the gems never work or they never pan out. Yeah know which pretty fun pretty funny. Because i'm like why are you gonna thing if you're not gonna. I don't know there's a lot of weird stuff in that game. I know. I know. I've been playing at a lot lately. I love just buying a franchise mode and just like symington old thing. Because i feel like it's so rewarding to see how your team does bro. I might team right now. In allegany restarted. A new franchise canucks and man. It's like every fucking year my team off terrible and then they go on a tear and then losing the first round and it's so frustrating. I fire fiery my coach than and so i bring a new coach all fucking sudden the next year i start off like four and like eighteen or something and i'm like what the fuck Wanna barely missing the playoffs. So that sucked. But i know they're so it's so weird because like i was wondering how yeah. I wonder how much of an impact like the chemistry really. Has i always go to build the best chemistry on my teams rather than like anything else..

"A guy like walsham in with these with them healthy on the line. Or even paul. Mary putting him on a top line. Because why else did you pay a first round. Fucking pick for third liners. You didn't pay first round. Pick for third liners especially in the playoffs. I guess it's better than the maple leafs paying a first rounder for fourth liner. And not by much and look and look third goal. Whatever But i do have to give credit Took harass man. He he's making like when he is tested. Which isn't much. He's making incredible stops like he's doing a really great job out there. It was actually really cool to see him play. I know i shouldn't be saying. I should be saying fuck boss and everywhere but You know watching him. Play was pretty cool. Not gonna lie. I think because to and mcevoy are the only two players that i like on the bruins. Really I mean it's hard to i think it's hard to dislike Now definitely especially A great guy or he seems like a great guy act. Like i know him but you know i feel you i. He does seem like a nice guy out there on the ice any anyway man. That's all i got for the series. The islanders will come back tonight. And when i think you got yourself a serious but I guess you could put put it down that this is a must win. Yeah i i think it goes without saying that. It's a must win this one. I mean well if the canadians came back from three one against the maple leafs. I think that the islanders to be able to do it against the bruins if they do happen unfortunately go down tonight. Yeah no. I won't count them out but For the way this team plays they need this one. So we'll yes. Yes stay tuned for that for next week. We'll discuss the islanders in more depth And the series. I think if it does go to seven it will probably still go on until our next episode right Yeah because probably go the rest of the week. I know they announced game five to be monday game seven day on friday if it happens. Oh my god sick all right well. We'll be able to talk about if we get there so Stay tuned for next week and You'll see you'll have to hear me crying or celebrating for real Either way we will. We will have a lot to discuss. yes that can't be said for the vancouver canucks unfortunately This week nothing's really been going on the the really. The only thing was that visibility podkolzin. Who is the twenty nine teen tenth overall. Pick for the canucks They signed him so He's gonna be in north america next year M i think he's going to have an immediate top nine impact on the team We said the same thing about hogue lender But i think he's better than hogue. Ladder is not so much important producing and finishing Like offensive plays. But i think overall his two way player man i mean he can four checked like he's a bulldog on the ice you know. He's a workforce he's constantly going after a player at the puck. he doesn't give up and his stick is really good. Stick shekar Some really looking forward to see where they where they slot him. I mean nothing will be cooler to me than seeing a second line of bo. Horvat neal's hogue lander and vasily podkolzin but Dow do that. That line would probably be one of the best second line hockey. No it wouldn't be. But i think that it would be at least at least top ten..

"Because they're not going to be hitting you like it's the playoffs you know so. I think that's where this team needs a physical player. 'cause i mean i fucking hate him but like luckett marshon. He's fighting getting in their faces and then he's just risk being a shot from dot any scoring in overtime like he can do. Both and i think that's what they need. That's what they need out of these players. They need matthews to play. Both sides of the puck playing aggressive and scoring at the same time. You know you gotta get him a tough winger. He's gotta be he's gotta fight as hard on the ice z. Did for his or as his dad did for his contract. See those the last thing. I wanna mention me. Police is how Stephen a smith was talking about the leafs calling them the dallas cowboys the nhl. And how they're a failure on an epic level every year and Yeoman i fucking love it. I love it adding fuel the fire getting hockey and more of a a larger spotlight. I love it. i love hearing him. Just rant for a minute or so about hockey you know. When he did with the oilers united agreed with his take but I agree with his take here but police. Oh yeah no. I agree and i. It's funny when he gets involved in a definitely causes a stir which is what you want out of a guy like him And that's why. I think it's great that they They went with them. Espn yeah So let's get into the second round now. Montreal is now up to against winnipeg as of last night You know. I feel like these. Two teams are pretty evenly matched. they play a very similar style game And especially they both rely on their goals enters Carey pricing connor. Hello book you know. The battle between them is really been great to watch. You know what. I mean They're both just. I don't wanna say deep teams but they play deep. You know what i mean like. They play like their deep team. Everybody pitches in from the bottom sixty you know that they play like with heart. I hate i hate. Say like a a stereotype like that. I don't know you feel like you're watching to underdog teams play you know. Yeah yeah no. You definitely are and it is shocking. How close it is right. Like how they play. yeah. And i mean like The series score doesn't indicate. You know being two. Oh but like both games have pretty. Even i mean last night Montreal a one author shorthanded goal..

"It's always play in game seven series and it looked like it was going to go back to denver. And you said it there. Trae breaking it down there with those with the fouls and then you'll get taking over two and lillard having nothing left in the tank in the fourth quarter but yeah lee. What do you think again. I don't think. I don't want to go like super long. What are the blazers. Go from here. Do we once again. Bring up the mccollum trade. His terry stotts. I know what's going to happen here. You're going to hear another podcast. But what did these think about the game specifically here well. Devon booker of course was the style last night. Let's get marco. Porta had twenty two points in that first quarter. He was hitting everything finished with twenty six of the game. But that's okay because then you start took over in the fourth quarter then nicol yokich but when it was at fourteen point game in the third quarter this had game seven written all evidence. There's no way little. It's going out like this but even you saw him in that fourth quarter win the lead like got to sort of six points and then eight points. Lillard was trying bombs that we know he's hit he sit him for so long and his career but even he just seemed the latest single little bit heavy and they weren't dropping in and that's when you of knew it was over for good so incredible resilience sharon by the nuggets of this series. Because i did lose game. One again with jamal. Murray is specifically thought that was going to catch up with him in this series because of their backcourt. But yeah monte morris. I mean in that fourth quarter was fantastic driving inside when it was there or just feeding into yokich and we know yokich can either finish or fonda a shooter on the perimeter there. So yeah this has been a great run here from denver and for port linda. Yeah i think this team's going to look drastically different next season apart from damian. Lillard rb surprised if you see too many of those same faces back. I think they have to do some. Make some changes here because it's a good team. It's a good regular season team but it doesn't really go all that far in the planet. The conference finals a couple of years ago against the warriors before they go sweat. But at this point i think the some changes needed because of our at plight and denver. We're fantastic and yokich. I mean he's just so incredibly fun to watch because he doesn't get rattled. He's got so much variety to his game. He complains a lot like. Don't teach every time valleys that good to the referee but but there there are fun team. And i'm happy for malign. I really am happy for the nuggets to to advance here now. They haven't got a lot of time to prepare for the next and they're going to be in for a tough one immediately against the sun's yeah we'll start bringing that down in the second task takeaways from this game the jump over here well just narrative wise. I'm happy that yokich the mvp is moving onto the second round so everybody can shut up about questioning him. In general he's just an incredible player and he's not the player that used to fade away at times in the first quarter second quarter third quarter yet had one subpar game but every great player does he was frick phenomenal throughout the entire series. And then on the other side. I think it's time for the blazers to go to a real defensive type center. That's agile enough not to be pick and roll to death. I don't think it's the. Cj mccollum move. I think it's just it's time to move on from use of norwich and to get a real defensive guy that can cover everywhere and not to put this on your mortgage but when its when you've got lillard and mccollum in the backcourt that's going to be the game plan is to try and beat them up Trying to get by them and they need better defense around. They tried it this year with robert covington and derek jones. Junior who obviously wasn't really a part of the rotation there but then You know is the backbone. You can't just pick and roll team if they've got a really agile big so it's time for them to move on from there and his quote after the game wasn't all that rosy vote his future portland. He was asked if he wanted to be in the right situation. He said yeah and the right situation. Yes we'll see. I don't know yet because this is not it. Maybe once the ball more. I don't know but i don't know maybe. He thinks he can be nicole yokich after being his teammate. For a long time in denver. But it's they got to move on they. Just it's not his fault but they've got if you've got an all offensive backward. You need enough defensive front court. I think the all offensive back orders. Personally the problem. I think they stayed attached to. Cj mccollum way too long. The blazers are not a great team. Damian lillard is incredible and he's carried this team farther than a lot of players could. But i mean. Cj mccollum didn't outplay michael porter jr. and we thought that that was going to be the case coming into this series we said maybe michael porter juniors got to score twenty five twenty six a game to be able to to equal what. Cj mccollum did cj. You know he was going giving you as twenty points a game. That's about it. Not a lot of impacts. Yeah and then. I mean it was. It turned into like this dual of course between. Mvp oh then this unbelievable damian lillard for most part throughout the series but you saw time time again felt likely you do need help you need guys to hit some timely shots at the very least and like a junior catching on fire in the first quarter was huge but like austin rivers another like sort of like classic dagger rivers three late in this game. Aaron gordon had one in the corner jamaica. Green was like grab a huge offensive rebounds and making big plays and it was just like you. Just look at that a little help for yokich all you need. You just need some timely help and a lot of times. I felt like in this series. B mccollum. Beat norman powell. They just came up when they had to like. Hey man we need to stop the bleeding here. We need a big shot or score here and couldn't get that help more times than not..

Damian lillard Aaron gordon robert covington derek jones eight points six points Lillard twenty points twenty six nicole yokich Murray jamal twenty two points mccollum second round fourteen point lillard fourth quarter twenty five damian lillard

"What they actually have to show for it. Yeah it's a really tough one. I had somebody telling me that. I should That i should vegas. Adjust cam talbot's numbers at the end of the series just to make fairly assessed. But yeah i mean you know like you said like i if vegas and carolina meet in the stanley cup finals. It might set an nhl record for most shots taken in a series because like they they really have that kind of very similar approach in terms of just generating so much volume And you know. Especially i think they defer to it In particular in the play offs where you know they determined that they they wanna play a very kind of playoff style of hockey and in their minds that means kind of relying more heavily on the offensive stuff. And you know you get a lot of shots from from low danger. Areas that turned into kind of scrambles in rebounds and stuff from Hide injuries and for whatever reason you know whether you wanna kinda go the the goaltending psychology aspect where their leading goal is kinda. Stop a lot of parks and get into rhythms. And things like that. You know i. I'm not so. I i could really speak to to as much by is really hard to argue with the results. When you know they're piled up over over such a long span. And i mean we did see less of the expected by whom stuff going on for them in the regular season. I and like you said kind of in this series. It wasn't necessarily as pronounced in terms of the the above expected numbers. But you know. I think there is definitely a pattern. Emerging here and when you have a team like colorado that not only does similar things in terms of quantity but also matches it in terms of just the sheer amount of quality scoring chances that they're able to generate Without flinching is a tough match-up. I mean i. I feel like kind of betting against the avalanche in series. It's kind of like betting against like the two thousand red wings like that's like the level of dominant that we're talking about here and vegas is as good a match as as you could really hope to put against them You know not only in this division. But i think a lot of people are thinking this being basically you know the western conference final or the stanley cup final in any other year. And i'm excited to see it but i again you know i. It wouldn't surprise me dollars. Phillip bauer put up like a nine forty and And for Dispatch these guys a little more quickly than you know we might have expected previously. It's so weird because for the most part if you look at especially the top players for big it's not like they're a team filled with these guys that are you know. Routinely like the Throwback but like the michael for a league when he was on on on calgary where it's like he's playing with with background khashoggi's posting these seven and eight percent shooting percentage seasons year in year out despite opportunities. He's getting like they have above average finishers shooters in the figure. The talent would be there where this wouldn't be an issue. But i do wonder how much of it is coaching in terms of playing style. And maybe changing their approach because they feel like they need to be more conservative than not opening it up. And that's going to be an issue in this series because as you alluded to if there's one team you wanna do that against colorado team that essentially doesn't really give anything up doesn't spend time in the defensive zone. It has a really good goalie philip. Who are who just doesn't give up goals against an so. It could lead to some comical numbers now at the same time. This vegas team does match up. I think as well as you can hope against his colorado team because they can match them in speed they can match them in a physicality and size and whether they're spamming shots or not they're good possession team and they're not gonna get bulled over. I don't think and that's one of my questions for this. We've seen colorado essentially all the way through the regular season and three row. One against louis. Just post these comical sixty plus percent shot rates and chance rates and everything across the board if i want five. And what's that gonna look like in a seven game series against vegas where it seems hard to imagine that it would be as divided as it's been so far colorado. Yeah no absolutely. And you know. I i remember after that series against against the and then also dallas last year. That was something that i looked into. I wrote a bit about it. And i basically came up with like five different possible explanations and it was really impossible to rule any of them out just because they were all plausible. You know one kind of fringe. One that i remember hearing from a former player that i that i asked about it was he was Very critical of the the stick curves of the todd vegas players. He said that they were. They were not suited to elevating pucks in tight off rebounds so speaking of somebody who always just went with the stick curve that came on the stick that i've bought on sale from sport. Check i i'd have to defer to him on that one but yeah like you think there has to be some kind of explanation for for what's going on here and i think that's good a good one is any but you know it really is hard to imagine vegas getting outshot out. Chanced by by massive barton says. Because we really haven't seen it that much you know. I mean even in that series against minnesota only really had one game where they got fully outplayed to that extent and that was game too. You know i mean if i the inverse is true you know if any team was gonna do it against as it would be the avalanche but i think like you said there's there's some areas of that matchup especially in terms of physicality you know man wouldn't it. Wouldn't the hockey men love it. If if alex talk in you know in them really just four check the hell. Out of colorado's tiny defenseman And and ground them into dust that way but it. I mean it's the series that i'm most excited for for sure and and the one that i think has the most potential to have some real kind of offense of fireworks to it so i definitely wouldn't afford to it. Yeah and the one. X factor here is that you know through the regular season. I'm not sure for how many of these minutes colorado actually had the full repertoire. Because there was time where a bunch of the players or out of action in these games but stone mckinnon went head-to-head for forty three minutes of the season and stone pretty much played mckinnon's line to withdraw the goals you to they slightly outshot them slightly chance them and you know colorado has the talent especially with that line where they don't need to have sixty percent of his shots to still come out ahead because the talent is so high but it's one of the few lines in the league i think that could reliably go head to head against mckinnon ranked in atlanta skog and not get completely embarrassed and just pin in their own zone for extended periods of time and so that's quite a luxury for reputable in vegas have To to sort of you know they might limit their own offense if if they go fully hard matching that but it might be one of the only sort of paths to limiting what that colorado top line can do for. Sure i thank god colorado's second-last didn't get himself suspended for most other not the entire series. Because you know that that would understand if that is there anything else from colorado vegas. They wanted to talk about. I kind of already done all of my my avs stuff so i think i'm good in that regard but i don't know about you know i think you covered it pretty well with which actor all right. Let's do islanders a series that you just recently put up a full preview for on ep. Ringside that i recommend people go. Check out What are we looking for in this series. Because you're talking about the offense of fireworks. I think we're all expecting that. You know you could argue. These are the two best defensive teams and sort of the traditional sense of just shutting things down in our leading the other team generate a ton of good looks so you think that with the goaltending and the defensive structures lend itself to your classic kinda grinded out to one maybe three to and i can triple overtime type of setting but Should we be expecting that like lego. what are we sort of sizing up in this series in terms of the the matchups. The story lines look for. Yeah so like you said kind of on it service. This really does profile is like the classic like every single game in the series is going to be two to one or three two two. Or what have you. The x factor for me is the bruins offense because that has been the.

"Welcome to hockey pedia. Cast money to meet your popovich and joining me as my good buddy and my elite prospects ringside colleague. Jack razor jack. What's going on are you doing. I'm good i'm good. We're according this on a saturday morning. round two is going to be starting tonight. So that's exciting and we're gonna use this as an opportunity to combine a- around one sorta recap to help preview round to and hopefully people will listen to it in a timely fashion. I know that putting out content over the weekend is typically ideal in if anyone's waiting in saving for monday morning three of the series law already have started but That's just we're just gonna have to make do and hopefully we won't wind up sounding horribly wrong after all the game once but so i'm excited we're going to. We're going to get right into this year. Let's start with tampa bay carolina. And i really want to start with the good stuff and what should be a banger of a series. I'm not sure if this is a series of more excited about vegas colorado. But i think it has the opportunity to be a remarkable theater and watching the the pace the team you're gonna play at. So what's the number one storyline for you in this one. Whether it's something we saw in round one from these teams in their respective series or sort of how they match up or whatever fascinates you the most about these two yeah. I'm really excited to see the top. Two lines i think go head to head because i just finished writing my breakdown of this series for ap ringside and kind of digging into the micro stats aspects of how these teams matchup. It really kind of struck me how similar they are in a lot of ways in in terms of how they play the game Especially at five on five offensively like these are two very kind of in zone. Offense focused teams Especially when you get to those kind of bottom nine players in the forward group like you're talking point shots a lot of forechecking A lot of dump and chase especially for the hurricanes But then everything kind of breaks down when you get to those talk lines to whether it's the kucherov and point plotline for tampa bay or or obviously carolina's well where you suddenly you start to see a lot more rush chances a lot more dynamic looking offense and and you know i think especially if you're talking about matchup where tampa's playing carolina who are such a cycle heavy team those counter attacks can be really deadly. I'm excited and interested to see whether that offensive structure of the hurricanes might breakdown in some places if they're pushed by you know kucherov and point coming the other way and i think we're going to see a lot of that. They want to see a lot of kucherov point and bladders host veteran commentary or whatever they wind up doing with line because the regular season. Obviously kucherov wasn't around but You know both teams seem very comfortable going with point against otto and in the round one match up we saw tampa bay not necessarily shy away from using point against barkov line and ended fine. But i think it's be fascinating for me is we're gonna talk about the power play here in sort of what kucherov did there. And i know people are inclined to complain about how convenient it is. Tampa bay activated kucherov ahead of game one and how. He was healthy all along and high was his grand conspiracy. And i don't wanna talk about the Shenanigans side of it. I want to talk both from what we saw on the ice. Because i thought at five on five whether it was kucherov adjusting to the speed of the game being thrown right into the playoffs after essentially not playing all season or whether it's him not still being one hundred percent from that injury and surgery he had because the mobility wasn't typically what you see from him he wasn't carrying the puck into zone with this type of success. We've typically seen from him. He wasn't attacking defenders in full stride. The way we've seen before there was a number of occasions where valley crackle glued serandon straw man sorta chased him down and prevented an odd man. Rush or an opportunity for him to be in a low and the goalie. And that's something we wouldn't normally see when kucherov firing on all cylinders. And he's if i want five and full strength and so he was great on the power play makes sense that it'll be an easier transition for him there where he's doing a lot of his attacking from a set position on that right flank where he's got more time and space as opposed to five one five or more free flowing so i'm not sure if type of situation where he's going to Get more comfortable and maybe get healthier as the series goes along or whether this is just the way it's going to be for him for the rest of this postseason. But i had a hard time believing watching that that he was fully healthy hundred percent and he had been waiting for weeks and months to to get back into lineup. Because he certainly didn't look that way if i went five. Yeah and he's not the only star on tampa team. Who has that issue. Obviously victor admitted you know we've had the norris conversations and everything like that. But i mean the fact of the matter is that whatever he says clearly is not at one hundred percent and he hasn't been for at least half of the regular season Like you said in your article. This morning we're going to hear about whatever kind of surgery ends up getting inevitably when they get knocked out her cup But i think it's a similar situation with him where you know that lack of mobility really kind of hurt them down the stretch making a lot of uncharacteristic defensive. I think on his part And and all that kind of drifts away on the power play when mobility isn't really the most important thing and it's more about making those in zone offense of decisions which you know headman hasn't been inhibited. In that by whatever injury is currently battling through. So i think that's that's an interesting point and one that i think would would benefit the hurricanes you know especially because they are so good at limiting those kinds of zone offense chances You know. I was looking at the numbers you know team. In the league allowed fewer cycle chances than than the hurricanes did this season And if they are able to limit that counterattack whether it's like you said with not having kucherov quite able to join the russian and the same thing with hedman if he's not able to take those chances that usually does than the hurricanes could put themselves under pretty good situation in terms of just kind of possessing the lightning to death yet. The headline is fascinating because clearly the numbers speak for themselves. You can pretty much neatly point to two. When he got hurt at the end of march against columbus and how his numbers fell off and chris johnson had reported that he's gonna be having ozzy's surgeries. I don't think it's necessarily Any kind of secret but at the same time you could argue that in that round one series against florida just because of how frequently they were attacking the russian. How as a team. There are so aggressive in terms of trying to get out to these fast break opportunities where their defense like mckenzie weaker would sprint up. The ice. maybe could argue. That part of it was by design where they wanted to stay a bit back to sort of prevent that from happening. Now he eventually got burned by by by ryan route. Lumbergh in one of those overtime games are florida. one but it's it's a shame because when headman is at one hundred percent and he's at his best he's one of the best in the game at being that sort of trailer who jumps in on the rush and gives tampa bay another outlet there to to attack. he's so good offensively in that regard and against ford. I can't ever remember seeing him sort of sit back and kind of just be like. Oh you guys got this ticket to take it from here Sit back and wait and see what happens and sort of pick a spot so Yeah it is the injury. It's likely going to get better as the series goes along and certainly sort of the pace. The carolina plays that could become an issue for him. So.

"To eat up minutes and not hurt you. Which is what you want at the end of your roster. Now he's also a guy who's kind of emerging partly because of those numbers i referenced earlier Emerging as the late first round guy if the warriors really like they might be able to get him in the early second if they could i think he i think he's a guy that should consider. Do you have a sense that the warriors are entering this with specific names. They're hoping that falls to them at at specific possessions or is it kind of a wait and see fluid approach. Let's see what trades are available at. See who's there to see. Who's there later. I don't think that you especially in the in the second round. I don't. I don't think you can approach it with the mindset of like we need to fill this need because you it's not fair to ask any second round player to come in and immediately so neat now that being said the words did do that with eric. Paschal last year they. They signed him immediately to a three year guarantee deal. Which in retrospect was brilliant because they signed because they were able to lock them up for three years at the absolute cheapest salary possible and and he's a guy who at worst going forward is going to be helpful rotation blair But i think that's rare that you can have that confidence in and someone that you would take at forty one. I also think that that was also a product of just where they were at with rosser even before the injuries last year that second unit was not super impressive during the season. I mean there are so many question marks. so hopefully they're their second. Unit is stronger than that entering next season once once they get through this second pick in the draft man and it wasn't because they were piling up winds by on the back of the second unit right and in terms of the second the second pick in terms of Positional need You know. I've talked to bob and i've talked to joe about this and basically what they said is they. Especially when you're drafting that early. They really do believe you. You need to drop the bass player available but this draft so fluid in there. There's such a small difference between the talent level of these top guys that you need to find ways that to differentiate you know guys on your board and i think that one way to do that is to favor guys who fill up positionally which is why which is why.

"I think he falls to the early second round the warriors who've the warriors to maybe packaged there. Too late second round picks the try to move up in the early second round and taking him And and because. I think i think he's incredibly skilled. I just think he needs to be put in a situation where he's playing meaningful minutes against high level competition Again any of these people if we reviewed it from the right prison if the idea is let's just get them in the organizations that they have the riots and then see what ultimately play out. I like the concept a lot and to borrow your phrase especially considering. The russia concerns with this go. Sounds like a good solution. Yes so those are. Those are just a couple of the pencil overseas the stash option which i had like this would be about really going to blow your socks off and by the way i prepared but i don't have a guy at only see you burn is do you i i kinda i kinda sweet asaba actually right before we went on zoom here and said this is what we're going to talk about russia really give you an opportunity to prepare. I know you are an over preparer. So i really appreciation and in fairness to you had you given miano six weeks to prepare for the second round draft picks lawyers could have had in this draft. I still probably would have been able to pull those two name. So there's a reason you're the reporter and it was good information but there's also going to be a lot of guys available in around beer like i said earlier were productive three or four year. College players That i think could slide into an nba rotation as a rookie And i you know guys who were productive in college in in have you know. Nba level skills already And i think that the warriors could could use this potentially to plug a couple of holes They don't have like a true backup. Point guard right now Acai bowman to me is not like a true backup point guard. I know that they believe more in like the secondary ball handler thing. They don't believe you really need a true quote unquote backup point guard. But if they if they wanted to have that on the roster a.

"About one of these guys. You've got my attention. And i love that idea. I i love the concept of a lottery ticket. Maybe they'll be worth so much more. And the investment lottery ticket. Is that times thousand. So like a euro player who they can who they see some promising but are willing to wait for. I like him. And you've got my attention. Who talking about. Yeah and i think given their roster situation it makes a lotta sense you don't you don't need to spend that money right now and you can. You can get an asset for the future. You know even if you even if you he never ends up playing a minute for the warriors if he ends up if whoever they took as a draftsman stash guy ended up developing in europe. That's an asset for you as a trade chip allie of other teams like what he's doing in europe so one one name that that i find interesting is an i and i'm gonna miss pronounce. These guys names the these second gas from europe But his name is rita somatic. He's a power forward out of serbia's six eleven to one hundred nine pounds. Twenty two years old It'd be kinda kinda of interesting if they ended up taking another big serbian project that they already have an smile gauge but smile on the roster. I think if they took barista he'd be a guy who would who would stay overseas for a year or two He's the guy who's not actually on mock drafts. But i've actually. I've actually talked to a couple of guys in the warriors for office. Who have him on their mock drafts. Who have them on in their top. Sixty prospects so he's a guy who they value more than other teams. I believe accept mercenary. Mcginn just the orissa borosage. So if you're listening to this podcast chances are you're a huge fan. You're anything like me. You'd like other people to know your huge warrior's fan drop that name. What a great chasm laid his show like. Oh i've been folic you guys might know about who the warriors are thinking that number two. I know barista. They're going to draft and stash on just just a case of friendly advice. If you may want to casually drop that name and you will come off as super impressive that i know that the warriors are like that are iden- this this guy or is it does have way too much time on my hands. I mean i wouldn't be looking credit for from you but if you do this for a living you are the writer so i mean it's impressive but it's necessary. I'm talking about the people who don't do this professionally. They will come off perhaps a little different presents. So he's he's a he's kinda you're you're you're you're you're total like mystery ball type type guy. He he has a lot of intriguing skillset. he's got some size. He's got catching suitability But he has not played huge minutes yet for his team in belgrade He he's a guy who's been on the news. Radars bro longtime he. He actually played at the two thousand seventeen nike hoop summit. I think a lot of people thought you'd go pro. Go go to enter the nba draft. Couple years ago But he just never really got the meaningful minutes approved so in europe But there's reason to believe that he could develop into a serviceable role player the next level if he's putting the right situation. He asked fluidity at.

"These the lottery picks necessarily going forward outside of maybe The talk re protected pig for a minnesota next year And so you wanna get as much values in can out of any pick and as they grow as as as bob myers proved with his barry first draft which was twelve when when he took draymond green thirty-five weigh in on ended up being the best player the words from that draft and they also took us a lottery. On harrison barnes zillion in the first round and draymond was the biggest value. Get now is it possible that the warriors in up getting more value was whoever they take the second round then whoever they take it number two. It's unlikely it's highly unlikely but it is possible So i think it's it's worth considering the thing about the second round if you look at it. Historically i'm i'm i'm really as you know really into the nba draft of all of this up closely. One thing i noticed about the second round draft is a lot of times. he's like really productive college players. These guys who spent three or four years in college the draymond green the world really the eric pascal's of the world who have all the tools to be good nba players but they fall to the second round solely because they're like twenty two and because they did held against them that they decided to play a few an extra eur two in college teams looking for the next big superstar. Wanna wanna use that first round. Pick on like the nineteen year old guy. Who's much rar. But there's something to be severed. Eric pascal's the world. A guy who could come in from day one in an score for you and defend multiple positions be helpful and i mean paschal. At times i mean obviously they. They were a ton of injuries last season but pasco all the words best player and he was the forty pick in the draft. Rusher you the last time you and i recorded on your show. The principal question that we focused on was do. The warriors have to match the lakers. Do they have to get bigger. They have to worry about the front court. They start loading up on On heightened size. In that time. I didn't think so we kinda hedged. I guess we'll see. But i kept saying no i believe in the warriors the system is ultimately gonna win out and then since that man heard a thousand people ask your question. I've heard it on the radio or heard on espn effort. Everybody say now. You know sizes the new way. So where are you standing on this. Do you think the warriors need to get bigger in order to compete with the lakers. And if so is that what they need to do in the second round i mean is it is it like. Should they be fired off as many lottery. Tickets as they can bring an end. Random dudes to see him that can put this whole. I don't think that that's how they should look at the second round. I think i think that they're going to be able to the i think they need a. They need one more center at least And i think they're going to be able to do that in free agency either with the mid level or even a minimum contract. I think they're going to get a decent center now. Obviously there's a lot of talk about the warriors wrapping. James wiseman at number two which i still don't think is likely but i you know the conversations i've had with an organization..

"They ended up getting the lottery. Whether that's at number two they trained back. I one on whoever whoever they signed on the mid level exception which it's looking like they're definitely gonna do. They're definitely they're definitely going to utilize and then one on whoever whoever they require with the traded player exception which I personally think is more than fifty percent chance. Something that they're gonna use. I don't think it's a guarantee. But i think they're probably gonna end up using it on like a that Rotation caliber wing. A guy like a is one. I've mentioned many times And then so. Then you're looking at you know at best to open spots. But it's looking like you know they're they're they're gonna wanna maybe use a minimum contract unlimited amount of minimum contracts that they can sign so if you go get like a glen robinson the third and signed him to a minimum I think he'd do that and is going to be other. Ethnic decent guys out there. Decent rotation caliber guys that you can get minimum So and then keep reminds. You also have bowman wants interesting. Michael moulder guys last season. Stay in her on. Non-guaranteed deals and i think you know the warriors would like to keep around least one of them You know it's not looking like all three will be able to make the roster but maybe can keep around one of them and then something interesting to that also came out just yesterday is that the league is looking at changing the to a contract so that so that layers onto contracts can spend more than just forty five days with the nba team given that it's going to be a crazy year with potential. Kobe outbreaks and Teams want that kind of roster flexibility so The not kinda complicated. But there's a lot of factors at play here. And bob myers you know is is gonna is gonna utilize those those contracts and they think it's very possible that the warriors ended up signing a guy like michael motor or wants time since two one of those two way deals and those guys in the You know playing more than forty five days in and being helpful next season now The worst can also if they if they so choose. They can draft someone in the second round With one of their big or or even if they trade up retreat down In the second round they can they can take someone inside them away as well so There's a lot of options here What what are what are your initial thoughts thinking hearing those absence. There's there's something that's so unusual about the warriors current position. Most teams were having. The conversation was podcasts. That are covering teams. That are having a conversation..

"Around Once you get later in the second round against trickier out once you get into forties fifties but you know there have been good pigs made and was later in a later part of the second round as well You know. Obviously eric pass was taken forty i last year he was You know her forty names doll before him. And then it was still a first team all rookie guy You monta ellis are fans will remember taken forty two thousand five was obviously a very productive player for the long time and then in terms of guys were taking early. Second round ended up having a of value the worst gilbert arenas in two thousand one thirty one Ended up in an all star draymond green at a obviously to get thirty five. We all know what happened with him. in in two thousand twelve and so I do think that especially in a draft. That's this fluid that the warriors can get value in the second round. Because i think there's gonna be guys that follow the second round that are actually first round now But there's this there's a so many question marks throughout the graph that guys are going to slide for reasons that maybe aren't really fair to them So it'll be interesting to let gilbert arenas name took me through an immediate rollercoaster. I remember being so excited when they got him he got like almost no time up front and they had two or three games takes off. Start scoring twenty game before where fans could properly enjoy what he was gone. He went to washington. There is almost no time in between. And i think the nba literally changed. Hell free agency work because of how badly arena screwed us over But i digress tells me we're not focusing on agent zero what i'll take on the second round so i'll start by being transparent. I don't know the names were available in the second round actually. I'm really fired up to have you shepherdess.
