Inflation is Cheating

"Inflation is cheating. Inflation is nothing new. Almost every declining civilization participates in an inflation cycle. Copernicus, who is known not for his monetary theory, but instead for his scientific and Korean discovery, he famously said nations are not ruined by one act of violence, like 9 11, or poor harbor. He says, but it said nations are ruined gradually. And in an almost in perceivable manner by the depreciation of the circulating currency, through its excessive quality. It's tempting when you're running a country to want to increase the money supply. It's tempting because it's an easy fix of the sugar high. But it's cheating. And it's lying. Inflation put simply is the declining of purchasing power. It's the rate at which the value of the dollar or the currency is falling. The Roman Republic famously did this by cutting the corners of coins or what was once a gold Roman coin. Eventually became a copper coin. We used to have legitimate silver in our nickels. And our quarters here in America. Now we don't. Now we have some sort of mixture.

M. region in Asia are more inclined to cut policy rates Jonathan all I definitely think that's a risk I mean last Friday we we kind of revised in our expectations for number central banks and in terms of typically you can come in the mall I yielding markets but also that of those that are quiet you know tried orientated Korea Taiwan and Singapore X. citrus I clearly these developments suggest that you know the risk the you see you know more aggressive actions taken by some central banks mean any cabbie I would say this is it central banks.

"Was affective. But think about the New York Times wrote a piece exposing basically think tanks around town. And so on that were pushing falsehoods serious journalists. I it's maybe the types is not a place where I always think that they're treated fairly and that piece you'd have to say that that's really old fashioned solid journalism. And by the way, one of the other one of this was nobody's getting a tax cut. Look, your your refunds or smaller. But the other one is sure some people do, but it was only the wealthiest one percent, which is, but but but but to that end some of those like the capital gains tax cut that is tied to these opportunities. That's a significant tax cut. But what the policy is such that that money is not redirected in a very positive can actually let let me give you two facts. This is not argument. This fact, okay. The fact is that the incomes of people in the bottom ten percent of the income distribution the wages. Last year grew six and a half percent. So they grew much faster than for the median person or the person of the top ten percent. And so so the income inequality in the full time when we get all the data went out a lot because if you bring factories back to America, then it's the people without college degrees. For example, the get hired and get high wages fact one is the wage growth is fastest at the bottom. And it was six and a half percent for the bottom. Ten percent last year, which is astonishing fact to the distress communities where here today to talk about opportunities to distress communities that right in the second quarter of last year, we can follow real estate transactions with online places like Zillow and relative to the second quarter of last year transaction prices in distress communities are up twenty percent up twenty percent, and that's important because fifty percent of the people who live in distress communities on their own homes. And so that increase of say, so one hundred thousand dollar home is now worth one hundred twenty thousand dollars. That's like a check of twenty. Thousand dollars to somebody who needs it the most society, and so if you're a social Justice warrior, if you're somebody redistributionist than you should love the impact of Donald Trump's policies, you talk about these distressed areas that have been identified as paternity zones. What's the criteria for that who determines what makes an opportunity? Well, we'll there's so I the backdrop is that there's really radical geographic inequality in this country people sometimes talk about income inequality. But there's geographic inequality of the sense that there are places that year after year have unemployment rates above ten percent have opioid overdose rates that are double the national average and so on and so the that it's pretty easy to spot them. You know, and if I were to ask you, so where did you grow up in Detroit in Detroit. So therefore, you know, distress community officer also parts of Detroit that are completely stressed right it. So if you're going to US Census tracts, if your identity census tracts into Troy that are distressed even without looking at the numbers. You could probably do it pretty. Effectively. And so what we did when we were working with congress to design the law is we recognize that the people who knew the the communities of the states the best where the states themselves, and so we didn't have the federal government identify distress communities. We basically just said that you states, you get to allocate a certain number of your census tracts can be identified as distressed communities. You figure out how to do it? And then each state, some states have different approaches,.
