Eric Recalls His Early Days as an Advertising Copywriter... For Ex-Lax

"Oh, here we are at the Babylonian interview show and we have a very special guest mister Eric metaxas in person at the Babylon B not literally in person, but yeah. Not little. I think he is literally in person, isn't it? Well, I guess technically, that would be true. Or off to goods. Do you want to be a little about the word literally? Yeah. Have you noticed people English major writer? So when people miss speak and say, literally, it's like, you know, we literally blew up, you know? It's like, no, that's the whole point. You didn't literally blow up. You blew up. The numbers blew up, but that's not literally, but no, I actually, I got to confess, I am literally here. Well, speaking of literally blowing up. Great transition books about smart Luther Dietrich bonhoeffer, William wilberforce, and you also wrote a commercial for X lax. Can you tell us about that commercial? I did write it right here. Actually, this is not insignificant. In a way. It is totally true that during the worst periods of my life had to take a job as a copywriter for gray advertising. So if you think advertising is cool, like anybody in the advertising business who thinks it's kind of cool. They think yes, but if you sell out, you go to gray advertising. Like they do the stuff that no one else will do. Like X lax. And so I was working with an ad director who was so evil seeming to me that I asked if I could be switched and I said, yeah, well, three years to Mark Schwartz, he does, you know, pharmaceutical. He was a really cool guy. And my first assignment was ex lax, and the ex lax thing, it's so weird because some commercials like it's so they kind of write themselves like they tell you what they want and they just need someone physically to be there and to say like, okay, I wrote this. But so they had this whole thing, you know, somebody comes home with a bag of groceries a mom. You see you got your ex lax, you know, blah, blah, blah. So I wrote that. But the point is, I do they ask their parents, say, I see you got your excellent. It was certainly no. When I was 6. I remember. So you got your exact. But here's the key to the whole thing. The key to the whole thing is that at that time, X lax was either being sued or something because it was such a powerful laxative. Let me say that again. It was such a devastatingly powerful laxative that is sometimes gave people unbelievable cramps and this and that. So they were moving over to an herbal formula, which of course couldn't be nearly as effective, right? So the commercial that I did for X lax was the last actual X lax commercial. After that, they switched over and it became X lax and quotes because the brand. So for 90 years they had this formula soil I wrote the last X lax commercial.

Rittenhouse Jurors Are Stalling on Verdict Because They Fear 'Mobs of Joe Biden Voters'

"Last night, Tucker Carlson went on a really, really important monologue about Kenosha, Wisconsin. It's no secret I'm a big fan of Tucker Carlson. I think he's one of the boldest bravest out there. And he's another one who sticks his neck out on the sticks his neck out there. He puts it all on the line, and I believe he did so last night with this monologue about the Kyle rittenhouse trial. The average tree reaches a verdict in just a few hours, so these jurors are taking much longer than most. But it's probably not because the evidence they have heard is confusing them. In a typical trial at insider trading trial, for example, something complex, an honest observer might be able to see both sides of the case and probably can. But that is not true here far from it. In fact, it's the opposite from the very first moments of this trial. It was obvious that Kyle rittenhouse never should have been indicted in the first place. The key question was, did Kyle rittenhouse act in self defense that night in Kenosha? And the answer unequivocally is yes, obviously. It's a no brainer, like the OJ trial. No honest person could reach a different conclusion. Kyle rittenhouse shot men he believed are trying to kill him. Now why did Kyle rittenhouse believe that you may ask? Well, in one case, the man he shot told him so directly. I plan to kill you. Of the other two men, Kyle rittenhouse shot, one repeatedly bashed him in the head with a skateboarder as he lay on the ground and the other stuck a loaded gun in his face. So Kyle rittenhouse fought back in order to save his own life. I'm guessing about that, even the prosecution's witnesses made that point. So once that happened, once Kyle rittenhouse's life was threatened on the street in Kenosha, what were his options exactly? Well, he could fight back, or he could allow himself to be murdered by the rioters and allowing himself to be murdered by the rioters is essentially what the prosecution has argued he should have done. Kyle rittenhouse had a duty to submit to the mob. Well, that's lunacy and no sane jury could agree with that for a second. So the question is, why is it taking so long for this jury to produce a very obvious verdict? Want the answer? We'll look outside the courtroom. There are hundreds of National Guard troops assembled tonight in Kenosha. Why are they there? Well, they've come in case Kyle rittenhouse is acquitted. Not a case he's convicted in case he's acquitted at which point if he is acquitted, pretty much everyone expects the usual mobs of Joe Biden voters to burn and loot and destroy. Why does everyone expect this? Because people on the left are openly calling for it. Now the jury deliberation has begun. I think every city in America should prepare for what could happen if rittenhouse gets acquitted. It may get rightfully

Did a US Air Marshall Leak Secrets About the Rittenhouse Jury?

"Yesterday there was a an assertion made on social media that a U.S. marshal somehow leaked information that two of the jurors were hold out yesterday against acquitting because they're worried that their community is going to get burned to the ground. Now, I don't know if that's true or not. We certainly could believe it. I guarantee you that wouldn't surprise you, would it? These jurors are human beings. That have to live and work and play in Kenosha Wisconsin. And it seems to me that we could be in a universe where a juror is going to say, yeah, I hated for the 18 year old, but we have to sort of sacrifice him for the better good. I don't know the answer to that. It worries me. All of it worries me. I've got my eye on the motion for a mistrial. Because of the prosecutorial misconduct and incompetence and mistakes that they've made over and over and over again, the defense team, and this has not been widely covered, although you can find the coverage of it if you look, the defense team has sent to the judge emotion for mistrial because a key piece of evidence a high quality drone video of the shooting of rosenbaum was withheld they say by the prosecutors. And that's absolute malfeasance, and they're aiming for a mistrial. I don't know what a mistrial does other than maybe have to start all over again, which would be kind of a nightmare. I don't know how I feel about a mistrial. This seems so open and shut to me and to most observers I daresay, but who

"So there's a couple stories that I want to try to put together here. But the first and the most interesting story quite honestly. And it's interesting in a way that you might think is the sudden and unexpected. Kind of shade war and stories that were coming out against cami. Against Kamala Harris. So late on Sunday evening on the front page of CNN were at least 6 or 7 different stories. 6 or 7 separate stories. That we're covering how The White House is at odds with one another. On the front page of CNN dot com last evening, here's where the headlines were this. Harris struggles with her relationship with Biden. Vice president's team tries the distance herself from fraught situation at the border. Harris looks to turn page as she zeros in on voting rights. White House goes into damage control after reports of dysfunction in Kamala Harris's office. 5 stories against Kamala Harris on the front page of CNN dot com. Exasperation and dysfunction inside Kamala Harris's frustrating start as vice president. Now, this is not Fox News dot com. This is not zero hedge dot com. Is that breitbart dot com? This is CNN dot com. That is reporting this. Worn out by what they see as entrenched dysfunction, and a lack of focus Key West west wing aides have largely thrown up their hands at vice president Kamala Harris. And her staff deciding there simply isn't time to deal with them right now. Especially at the moment, when president Joe Biden faces quickly multiplying legislative and political concerns. I continues by saying defenders and people who came for Harris are getting frantic. When they're annoyed, some pass around recent onion stories, mocking her lack of substantive work, one with the headline, quote, White House urges Kamala Harris, the Senate computer all day in case emails come through. When they're depressed, they bat down the Aaron Sorkin style rumor that Biden might try to replace her by nominating her to a Supreme Court vacancy. That chatter has already reached the top levels of Biden orbit, according to one person who's heard it. She is perceived according to CNN dot com to be in a weak position. That top Democrats in and outside of Washington have begun to speculate privately. Her job as number two is to be helpful and supportive to the president and to take work on he asks and who asks her to be intelligence briefing. This is a multi page hit piece. Beto O'Rourke Steps Into Texas Gubernatorial Race Against Abbott in 2022

"The Democrats have an agenda to try to turn Texas blue. They keep saying it's going to turn blue. Big news today, beto o'rourke, he's back. Running for governor challenging Greg Abbott, let me get the dean of Texas talk show hosts responds to that big breaking news. For those who don't remember 2018, beto o'rourke came out of virtually nowhere in El Paso member of Congress and managed to excite enough Democrats that he came to within two and a half percentage points of Ted Cruz, our biggest conservative rockstar. That was 2018. This is three years later. What's different now? Well, one thing he's running for governor and not for the Senate, the other thing is three years of time passing. The questions become, does he still have the same kind of moths to a flame drawing power for Democrats that he had three years ago? I think the short answer to that is yes. Democrats are naturally thrilled by the notion of having a rockstar like beto, run for governor. But you know what other kind of group beto energizes? Conservative voters. Who for three years have had a good solid memory of how crazy he is on the Second Amendment. In deeply wrong he is on boarders and the economy. He is saddled with the albatross of Joe Biden in this gubernatorial race. And so in taking calls on the fly about it, this very morning, I found two types of voters who were stoked that beto is running. Democrats ready to vote for him? Republicans ready to vote against him, so the key question is going to be which is the larger group. I think beto finishes closer to Greg Abbott, presuming he's the nominee. He does have competition. He finishes closer to Abbott than any other Democrat would have, but do I think beto is going to be the next governor of Texas? I decidedly do

But <Speech_Male> as i approach this <Speech_Male> business <Speech_Male> was working with them <Speech_Male> they <Speech_Male> they had no idea. <Speech_Male> They're like <Speech_Male> we know people want <Speech_Male> this <Speech_Male> service. <Silence> We know people need it. <Speech_Male> We've had <Speech_Male> people buy it. <Speech_Male> And when they buy it they <Speech_Male> love it but <Speech_Male> why why <Speech_Male> can't we get more. Why <Speech_Male> aren't we getting more. Why are <Speech_Male> why <Speech_Male> are our marketing <Speech_Male> efforts not <Speech_Male> yielding <Speech_Male> more <Speech_Male> results <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> as i went through this concept <Speech_Male> with them of <Speech_Male> frequency <Speech_Male> they <Speech_Male> say it became <Speech_Male> clear that <Speech_Male> because they <Silence> had <hes> <Speech_Male> a <Speech_Male> few key individuals <Speech_Male> within their <Speech_Male> in within <Speech_Male> their organization. <Speech_Male> Turn over <Speech_Male> and kind <Speech_Male> of <Speech_Male> trade roles <Speech_Male> right. You <Speech_Male> would see things on their <Speech_Male> social media and on their <Speech_Male> blog and on their website. <Speech_Male> Have <Speech_Male> this complete <Speech_Male> lack of a pattern. <Speech_Male> It was like there. Was this burst <Silence> of <Speech_Male> social <Speech_Male> media posts or whatever <Speech_Male> that was a few blog <Speech_Male> posts. There was <Speech_Male> a few updates <Speech_Male> to their website. And <Speech_Male> then would die off <Speech_Male> and you could <Speech_Male> tell. These people were busy. <Speech_Male> It was like <Speech_Male> you could. It was like <Speech_Male> you could almost see <Speech_Male> when they were pick up <Speech_Male> pick up <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> and then when they would drop <Speech_Male> off again because all of those <Speech_Male> things again would start <Speech_Male> up. <Speech_Male> That's a <Speech_Male> killer. Yeah <Speech_Male> as as a small <Speech_Male> business for you being able <Speech_Male> to close that deal <Speech_Male> because <Speech_Male> it kills trust <Speech_Male> when people look at that <Speech_Male> and they see that inconsistency <Speech_Male> they <Speech_Male> in their minds <Silence> question. <Speech_Male> Why <Speech_Male> aren't people buying <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> in the same way <Speech_Male> that you're like. Why are people <Speech_Male> buying <Speech_Male> life <Speech_Male> game when you start to develop <Speech_Male> that distrust or confusion. <Speech_Male> You're <Silence> done for so <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> super important <Speech_Male> to make <Speech_Male> sure that that's something <Speech_Male> you're keeping tabs <Speech_Male> on. "Subaru tanja coming back to frequency or i guess not coming back. Starting on frequency beginning of frequency. Here we go. Frequency really is a simple concept similar to consistency I feel like it's a little bit. Easier to grasp and implement frequency is just that you are on a consistent cadence like if you're listening to a song it's like one two three one two three two three. That's the same kind of thing that you do with putting out your messaging with introducing your brand to the world however you do that whether that's through social media whether that's the logo on your building whether that's the sales flyer you give to your external reps or the swag that you give to your dealers or that's on your website or whatever right when when we talk about this cadence it's again. It's coming back to building something that people can expect and trust so they they're experiencing this on a regular basis and they know what to they know what to expect now that again. That doesn't mean that you can't come out with like new stories like oh breaking news in our company kind of tie back in right exactly it all comes back to who you are as a company and why you do what you do as a company right now. I want to tackle a couple things on frequent. See some some things to avoid when you're getting into frequency the first one that i want to tackle is this idea of. Oh i'm i'm i'm annoying. My customers i'm bombarding customers. That's not true. I struggle with that bad. We all do because. And here's why when you're putting your message out there your paying attention to every single time your messages out there you notice yourself you notice your ads. You notice that You know you're trying to push you notice that you've emailed this person four times already and you're like i can't email them again but the truth of the matter is they haven't noticed they're busy..

"You've got to be building. That trust. And i think i mean you're you're kind of giving like a pretty big back sample as businesses all the time and we just don't recognize it because it's not so blatant not so obvious and that's what i wanted to bring it back to. I wanted to just like you're using the these extreme examples to illustrate a point because what happens is businesses are always saying. Oh i don't do that. Yeah right and that's the problem that's the mistake. Is we all do that. Yeah there's been a moment where we all have changed something and it's not a big deal to us but it's a big deal to our customers. That's where we need to pay attention and so as you're giving these extreme examples and you might be thinking we're like well. I don't have a call center that is international. And so that's you know. How does that relate to me. And it's like well look at what you did. Did you change You know did you. Did you change your whole branding. Your camp so like is your is your messaging on your social media the same experience that your customer is going to have when they come into your store. Is that the same experience that they're gonna have when they call you on the phone. Is that the same experience that they're going to have when they go to your website. All of these expire. And that's what i'm ultimately getting it like. You're saying really glad you brought that ended the all those experiences need to be the same. Well the crazy thing was i was talking about you. Know the pantry and while you were talking. I'm like i'm going to look this up. I'm curious what cova did to the pantry. sure And so i got online and i pull it up and it was interesting because nowhere..

"That are core to who you are as a business. So your logo your colors your your culture. You know the why you exist and what you deliver as a company. Those things shouldn't be changing all the time they shouldn't rapid fire change. Just because you got a new sales manager or just because you've got a new marketing guy or you had a new employee. Come in with some great ideas like you don't always want to be changing. Those things dow. I mean in good examples of this. Are you look at you. Look at some of the big players as a reference point for some of these right like you look at. How often has coca. Cola's logo changed. How often google's logo has changed. How often home depot's logos change it. It just it's rare and if they do. The the modifications are subtle. I remember when Starbucks they had a logo change. They had a really like it was big to do right because starbucks was changing their logo. And if you look at the difference between before has changed in after changed a lot of people didn't even notice so subtle but yet it was so crucial to their brand right and the reason why they change those because they felt that that changing their logo even though it was super subtle brought their logo more in line with who they were and why they existed as a brand right. And so if we're going to change those core things it's got to be on that front of you. It's it's got.

"Looking at two key factors and branding what i like to refer to as consistency and frequency. Now before we jump into kind of the the meat here of what we're gonna talk about. I kind of want to kick it off a little bit with. Some typical stereotypical preconceived notions that. I'll see a lot of businesses. Have cher you get these entrepreneurs small businesses that they come to the table. And they're like branding is. It's a little bit elusive. It's oh yeah well. I mean established companies. They they do the branding side of things and You know and they look at it like this pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that is like well we could chase that but we'll never catch it and that's something reserved for big companies like amazon and google and home depot. And now down. technically. I always say that small businesses. They don't have a brand. They have a reputation. But your your your reputation is your brand and you know Honestly you've opened my eyes to some of the importance of not only having that quality reputation but backing it up with you know your like your logo your color scheme and the messaging that you use the you know the timing like they're they're all these little pieces and again to not make it seem so elusive it's actually just i. It's very process oriented. I know just step by step by step by step. Do do these things you start. You take a shower then you then you get dressed. Yeah you know. And i see these small businesses. There's like okay so wait a second lake a dry off. Then i get dressed. And i take a shower like no no no like it matters how you do it and once you once you dial it in it really is as easy as you know just getting ready in the morning up one step two step three and that's the consistency and frequency. Like how often do you bathe daily. Brush your teeth couple times a day you know exactly and the key here is that. It's really not as complicated as the internet social media. Whatever you're looking at makes it seem all these twelve step guides to branding and this white paper for your email address and we'll tell you how to knock out branding. It's like no you don't need any of that. You as your own small business your entrepreneurship. Whatever you're into you know how to do it. And all it is is taking the time to understand your customer base and then delivering your brand to them both frequently and in a consistent way right so when we talk about consistency. We're talking about that. You take the same message to them. Essentially what your brand is what you're all about. You know a lot of people talk about like a vision statement mission statement or whatever your company culture is these kinds of things. It's delivering that. That same message over and over and over again right if i were to come to you or i'm sorry okay so you i have a small business right and you as a listener or you ryan as as as a consumer of whatever goods our services that i offered you come to my store so i have the store you walk in and you're like hey you had a really cool sign out front and i'm like yeah. Welcome to our juice shop. We are here to help you be healthy and active in your.

They've scored points early, but haven't been able to tow finish it from that standpoint, so we'll see if the Lions can finish today and you mentioned the coaching disarray five major absences due to Cove and protocols. How does that change it for each side In terms of knowing tendencies? Do they stay the same? Do they deviate significantly? Is there any game that you can think of that you can pull from that compares to this in that regard? I think the Lions are going to continue to try and do what they do. Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Lindsey Graham, vowing to forge ahead even with Election Day looming. We've got the votes to confirm the judge the justice on the floor of the Senate before the election, and that's what's coming. It's a complete turnaround from what he said in 2016. Republicans refused in 2016 to even consider President Obama's pick to fill Justice Scalia's seat nine months before election Day.
