What's happening with minimum wage increases
"The minimum wage is something that i had to walk up to see what the federal minimum wage was. Do you know seven dollars. Twenty five cents an hour. I didn't even know that because it's become increasingly irrelevant as you drive around most urban and suburban areas you'll see signs now hiring and it will say starting at whatever number of dollars per hour and nobody's talking about being at seven dollars twenty five cents an hour the federal minimum wage. The idea of it just see you know was originally about giving people a wage that would keep them out of poverty but in recent years. It has nothing to do with that. It's just a marker that is a minimum theoretical amount per hour was shared with you back in november. You have state after state where citizens given a vote without exception have chosen in states. That allow ballot initiatives to raise the minimum wage and the public consensus is very strongly towards raising the wage and the move is really clear with the whole concept of fifteen dollars. An hour A lot of retailers a lot of grocery sellers going to fifteen an hour as their minimum pay The german fast growing german supermarket chain leader has recently started at fifteen an hour which was a big increase from what they were paying two people and so the marketplace is moving that way state voters are moving that way and do you know that twenty states raise their minimum wages this year and a number of states are doing graduated increases again to that theoretical fifteen dollars an hour. I remember when this all started in my memory. Serves me right. The big push up in the minimum wage started in seatac. If you're familiar with what seatac is Seatac is the name that everybody uses for the airport for seattle. That is mostly towards tacoma but kind of towards seattle and they just call it seatac in the area right there is called seatac and in a move at the time that people said would lead to massive unemployment. there was a big push to a very high minimum wage at seatac and that was really the kick off of what's happened around the country and so it did not lead to any increase in unemployment. The economic theory is it would actually does shift employment of jobs that exist. go away you think about in fast. Food restaurants is shared with you a good ten years ago from traveling overseas in countries that had high their their equivalent of a high minimum wage. You could not order from a human you could only order from a computer screen a touchscreen and as minimum wages go up. You see that happen but even with that fast food outfits are always looking for new workers because of turnover so it shifts the nature of work. And i historically have been opposed to Government impose minimum wages and. I realized a while back that. This was an area that i was wrong on and we were putting people in a position where they could not deal with. Life's daily expenses and having a higher. minimum wage. was something that my classic libertarian. Kind of thinking. I was just wrong and so this is a move that will continue. It puts pressure on employers a lot of job classifications as they see their labor costs rise. No doubt that puts pressure on the profitability of a lot of small businesses. It is something that is clearly going to happen. Is voters in red states and blue states unanimously given a choice a chance vote in increases in their state minimum wages. And i think there's a really good chance in twenty one that will see an increase in the federal minimum. Wage adopted that will phase in over a number of

"SEATAC radio where we bring you investment strategies you are not hearing elsewhere and that is especially the case today. We'd like to welcome back to the show Dr Paul Glance founder and C._E._o.. Of Glance Financial Advisory They create and manage investment strategies for investment advisers and some high net worth individuals. He speaks to us from their headquarters in Troy Michigan Paul. Welcome back to strategic investor radio. Thank you for having me so Paul Little of your background you have a p._H._d.. In Engineering Automotive Engineering Mechanical WPRO engineering and then a master's in automotive okay and the P._H._D.'s from Michigan State University the <hes> Masters From University of Michigan so <hes> you're kind of confused during football and basketball season but I guess that's okay so that mean and you had a career in the automotive industry so you've never worked on Wall Street correct correct so you've developed timing signals that several mutual funds of used for a couple couple of decades or longer and you've developed these proprietary methodologies using quantitative based analysis focused on signals of market change in reversals through pattern recognition and we'll talk talk about that in greater detail in just a few minutes you use a timer track system timer track is somebody who works with people like you and they confirm and verify the trade that the accuracy of the trade that you make so anybody can go on there. Look up your system and see per month for as long as you've been with timer track which in your case is twenty nine months and see exactly what the returns of Ben Every single month all confirmed and verified by Tomor track so let's start with a little a brief background of yours as you said I'm an engineer and I was running a engineering consulting company <hes> in Nineteen Ninety two. I entered a stock contests and finished in second place and then the one of the large mutual while the largest just neutral fund in Michigan <hes> the owner called the up and <hes> then hired me and so I've been providing timing signals to his company ever since <hes> so that got me into the Financial Advisory Service and <hes> then I quickly figured out I can make a lot more money on the financial side of the advisory service versus the engineering site right so now I concentrate pretty much a hundred percent on the financial part of the business and <hes> so we developed some proprietary techniques we act I actually yeah I think it's a vantage not to have the Wall Street training and and then training in these classical techniques because from my point of view none of the classical methods. It's a trading and the commercial computer programs you can buy for trading none of them. Work and people get upset when I say that but I can prove that or anybody can prove and and the proof statement is that <hes> you know less than two percent of the professionals at using managing the hedge funds and the funds are able to beat the S. and P. Five hundred over one year the three year in a five year time period so you know Paul we we know that and that's because Wall Street Journal sings that song justify every day here and there forever criticizing and <hes> badmouthing really hedge funds mutual funds and strategists because <hes> they're unable to outperform the S. p. five hundred and that has increased every year for the last <hes> several years and not only that but the <hes> the morning star ratings basically have come out and recognized that hey just because somebody got a good rating last year doesn't mean they're going to get a good rating the next year and then often it actually reverses itself so no question about it for money managers to be accurate year after year after year is exceptionally rare so if if <hes> that's the case for you you're to be congratulated. Let let's start with kind of your flagship strategy. which is the <hes> the oil or U._S._O.? E._T._F. Slash energy strategy. Tell us a little about it. We I think it's twenty nine months old correct at least what timer track finally longer that right now but yet thirty months or so <hes> yeah so. It's a quantitative computer code that takes U._S._O.. which is the price of oil and <hes> it also has input of the put the call volume and using those inputs that comes up with a parameters for quantitative to quantitatively calculating what that energy sector is going to be doing or really what what type of trend it's presently in and one that trend's GonNa Change and <hes> it has <hes> because only a move a lot moose two or three percents per day sometimes me about it today and <hes> yeah today is up one percent down two percent so it moves a lot intra-day now? We don't try to trade intra-day. We only do at the end of the day <hes> but <hes> you think catch the oil trends you know eighty percent of the time which is about what we do <hes> you can make a ton of money on that index because it has such high volatility and so that is our I play strategy and that strategy is actually an absolute first place on time or track meaning if you look at all five hundred seventy five strategies posted on Timer Track Lance U._S._O.. Is An absolute first place block congratulations pollen again. We interviewed you couple of years ago here and you were in first place at that time so this is certainly not anything new so tell us just a little bit more number one yeah it can go long or short correct correct so it can be profitable or unprofitable when the price rises or when the price falls and so and as you say so you've been <hes> profitable the vast majority of the time and about how long what's the average length of how long you hold a position it's practially three weeks as the average we we average sixteen traits signals per year it can we hit home position as short as three days and as long as three months okay and so you trade about sixteen times. A year for that right okay and has that been consistent for these two and a half years. You've held it or did one year. Maybe it was up to thirty in another year was down to four or something like that. It can be a large variation. I mean you will sometimes get oil go through three months or four months. <hes> steady rise and then turn around and do the opposite go down for three months in intra-day looks like it's moving a lot but when you move it out you can see the trend is <hes> hasn't changed at all you know Paul <hes> we've talked to many people here who used that tactical type of trend following following or or reversal strategy sometimes those are very very simple and they are using one or two signals. You have a P._H._d.. In engineering I doubt that you do anything simply <hes> AH. How complex is this strategy well? That's a good question so what everyone else is doing is incredibly simple and <hes> you know there's there's some very famous. People is the Englander being one owner ahead of the Millennium Fund who I quoted at one time Paul there's no one strategy that works all all of the time and if any bay should know he should know because he runs a proprietary trading shopping. If seen thousands of of hotshot traders come in and out through his doors but yeah the bottom line is no one simple strategy is going to work all the time and so what grade are you come up with has to have several different components to it and in our case we have fifty different rules and then we have the logic to decide which one of those fifty rules is dominating is going to determine the <hes> buy or sell signal in this particular case so we have what some people would call momentum type strategy. We got reverse oversold overbought reverse direction strategy. We have one rule set of rules. Just put the call same put the call is just way too extreme. The market has to change and so forth and so on and the other thing we do is we don't plot price versus time every stock market chart you looked at you'll see the units on our <hes> price usually in U._S.. Dollars and then time either hours minutes seconds weeks or whatever the problem with that if you were a scientist or engineer and you look at that chart your first criticism would be hey this charges not dimension -Ly a corrector in very meaning that if I change the units I change the shape of the chart I changed the pattern and you're trying to look at <hes> maximum slopes entrenched lines with those trend lines dependent on your imports and you you haven't gotten rid of <hes> that variable Ellen in science and engineering. There's a technique us to to make things dimension Leeann variant if it's called the Buckingham Pifer and it's been used in aerodynamics discovered the mach number and Reynolds number those two parameters amador's and they're called pipe remers. That's where the name Pike comes from tells you when you're going to have a transition in from for the mach number as you may know from subsonic to supersonic flow reynolds number is transition position for Mueller to turbulent flow and so we are doing something similar to that we have parameters. There are trying to tell us when the flow in the stock market. Eh is going from a smooth flow too turbulent flow and and also from subsonic to sue supersonic which is a correlation to the market's going to crash you know Paul <hes> you could have been speaking King Chinese over the past three minutes and I wouldn't have understood any less okay but all I can tell you is for our audience S._E._C.. Regulations require that that we not talk about actual performance but anybody who would like to go to timer track and look up <hes> glance financial strategy and look at the return okay and they're going to see why hi you've been ranked number one for the past twenty nine to thirty months on timer track which again they confirm and verify the accuracy of of all of your trades here and or the confirm and verify their returns through all of your training 'cause you actually notify them of of every trade and so we would recommend anybody go to that <hes> we're prohibited from speaking to that exactly but they're going to see the opportunity here so you. We've talked about that one strategy now you actually have four. That's your flagship. You have four so people could diversify. They would like for the most part now. Oh you do two things one. Is You do manage some money for some individual investors but primarily you provide signals either for investors or primarily for advisors correct yeah. They're they're only for phones wealth management firms. We signal services not available.
