What's Next for Sam Bankman-Fried?
"Sam bankman freed pleads not guilty to fraud and conspiracy charges. He doesn't have to go back to court. I believe until October 2nd of 2023. So basically, he is free for approximately ten months to do whatever is he's going to do. So just because he pled not guilty doesn't mean he is in fact actually not guilty, most people plead not guilty anyways, not a legal expert or anything like that, but that's just what I've seen in the TV and stuff like that. But again, we're talking back about the names that we're going to be remained secret for now from the other two people that posted bond as well. It's important to note. But since Jen's back and I miss her, I really, really, really would like to get your take on this story. I missed you too, Wendy. One day away from you guys, and I just had to come running back. I love you guys. Well, I think it's not surprising, right? Sam bankman freed went on this PR tour. He kept saying, I didn't know I didn't know. I didn't know for him to clean guilty. I think would have been a surprise. What I'm interested to see in October is, you know, we have the new CEO of FTX, John J ray the third, we have Caroline Ellison and Gary Wang who have taken plea deals. These people probably have a lot of evidence against Sam bankman fried. That would say that, you know, he maybe was a little bit guilty. And so I'm interested to see what evidence comes out. I'm a little bit saddened that we have to wait until October for this to happen. You know, Sam bankman freed's going to be at his parents house over there in California all the way until October, you know, living probably a pretty cushy life. And so I just, I don't know how this is going to, how this is going to turn out, given all of the evidence that we've already seen come out against him. But Zach, what do you think? Season two, baby. It's shaping up to be a good one with ten months of craziness that's going to unfold. What if Sam starts tweeting again? What if he starts trying to make things right with his users? What is going to happen? He's probably talking to all sorts of people. Reporters, anyone out there still trying to get his story out to the masses.

"Talks and fails thinks and And the thing. I think is you know. Give it a couple of years in the warriors that we could become so disconnected from from the real. Will you see it now. So much with millennials and phones and instagram's not jackson and yeah exactly right So that that'd be the thing to to be aware of like what it's already it's just. It's a detachable lynn. We have this. This is like this is like an extension of your personality your sliding your limbs towards us pick it up and anyone who says the note emotionally attached to their devices liar. Is you know you drop one. And the screen goes. Most people are the burst into tears. All you know. I mean it's It's already part of our life and Jones sign of just giving them lax so that you know so that just just a point that up you know for that you can you can see how attached to audio fact if your phone is walking around with it just it. just lets you know how ridiculously attached. We are to advice leaving videotape. You're playing against the. Hey i it's not essentially sports tendencies and try to beach. Yeah so it's a little scary. Just go a little further. Would that program. Yeah and i mean. Jones simul working on When now publicizing season two in pay they have the ebay page. Which you can go to for the sinus essex. And you can you can make a complaint about your your send going becoming conscious and gangster and you get into a conversation with a with a worker on ebay single. What exactly this kind you into a conversation eventually. The you'll realize you're talking to sinn walter but it takes a while before you realize that that's what you're doing and it's talking back to you and your your way into the conversation before you realize. Oh this isn't a human. I'm not talking to anybody. I mean this isn't that is so it's you know easily fool and Yeah the time will come when we went realize it. They already control than we'd like to think the two gentlemen talk about sam's character what he represents and also some of the themes of season to the me. It's it's it's playing the every man in a sense and and trying to Trying to be real in respond to You know this. This situation was not too too far away but And you know. Just trying to think how i would how i would react to essentially talking machine And and so. It's it's quite nice to play that That human element And because i guess you know this season. Is this a lot of fantastic storylines. And i think they built a bit more drama than this. You know some fantastic so action moments. But then there's also the domestic situation you know with the hawkins in and with adams cafe would may and so it's nice to have the light and shade. And that's what i loved about the first series. So much is that you didn't. You didn't think we're watching sci fi show. It didn't just like really real human drama with this really cool. Dark twist to it With this other i. That's what i've enjoyed about. Yeah this this season we we've also excludes what what it means to be human in relation to sits at so it's like in the first in the first season 'cause obviously you're setting up world. The idea was what's it like to be but in this it's what's it likes human in relation to them and and for for joe it's about trying to keep his children somehow on track you know he he sees massey's already an adult so you know. Sophie is very much a child. But toby's in this strange middle ground where. It's hard enough being trying to cope with being adolescent adolescent. Who is sure he feels about since what it means to be a means to be human. He's trying to negotiate middle ground. And that's really dangerous. Time joe laura trying to see exactly what's going. That's that's been interesting from an nineteen point views. What particularly watching. These and theo pixie bay. The kids deal sort of negotiating very different set of a different mindset about what it means to be a growing human being in that world. So that's been fascinating. The duo discuss if they worked together. And if they also work with carryanne moss. Who joins us series as dr athena moro for the first time yesterday. She's i'm sure she's amazing. I speak with no. She is And you know tweets each other. Okay halley with us. Coming to meet you when i got a group. A group tweet from tonga mint hill. Yesterday saying hello. I'm in new york. Where are you guys. Tony's among sam nice to see the hotel yeah So yeah i is is one of the show. Certain sitting wills don't collide. She has very cool storyline and this slot larger will. That's that's far removed from ed's cafe and joe's house. Yeah yeah she does yeah. I'm trying to think what i can say that. Yeah it's it's a great counterpoint. To the william. It's a really great counterpoint to that and and shows you that kind of mindset can do depending on motivations so that's that's where that's where senior such carries me so Yeah you're gonna love huge fan of banks and so the last two cultural with me. 'cause i left the culture behind red lows so now it come back to banks meeting the culture novels again which are a great reference point that has actually 'cause that's the culture is sort of this idea five thousand years in the future. It's which is which is amazing to me. Yeah i think you know mike cancer. You know Brian cabell hours. You know credible movie at and was very much a human trying to understand the intricacies of the machine and so there was some panels in in that between that. And you know i love. Bronze franken was writing and and saga graphic novels. Incredible So that pops to mind go series has been interesting in the first series of his. We were obviously very much william. The hawkins family seems to be just slack. George gating jimmy. Because she was just doing this thing that we nobody had seen before and dan at worked so hard with chairman with the course and cost savings. Just extraordinary extraordinary. Were said this sees danis of taking that step further. He's got a core group of supporting artists. Who do stay with the show through. Because you have no idea that they're repeating models that you see a lot of walter's david's so he's so he's got this core group and they all they will reappear in the background and doing stuff and joe's place at work and And that's been kind of amazing because that's so well drilled. Now they know who will have to do is so clear with That just suddenly feels like the world and it's an it's weird. How quickly becomes new. You know for me working gem. I was similarly slack jawed. His you know being a fan of the show and then you know suddenly turning up on getting to do with And just the detail that goes into what you think is a very simple performance. But there's so much going on underneath there you know. We had one of the scenes on down at the cafe and she has to come down the steps to to greet me at the front of the cafe. And you know. I just well. She's going to walk down and it would an easy stop but for her sin wouldn't absolute where it was going. You know that there were twelve steps and it takes ten minutes five-step so in her so she's having two practical for the scene. Okay so i take twelve and four you know so looks looks after. "This is tony tomato and welcome to fi talk. I've been talking a while now. About what i think is going to impact us. Probably in the next twenty years and that's artificial intelligence westworld is dealing with it. But there's another series that's been dealing with it now for two seasons. And that's humans and i have interviews from the new york comic con roundtables starting us off our jimmy. Chang who is mia but was also anita when working in the hawkins household and colin. Morgan who plays leah says i would say for the first part the season He's probably the main new car to that. I interact with But then as the show goes on Id from into contact with not say without giving things away. I then i do meet other need hearts as well make count. I guess a lot of issues upon them at the shoes were more off to 'em on so naturally. Insulin makes a little bit more driven to i think Seek aware of the park six solution and so when he sees that when when he he when it when it's apparent to him what he needs to do on these got away of i guess finding a way to belonging in the world at because is a big theme of of the season. Actually i think is the seasonable doubt about what kind of what your place was within probably unit or such in season to kind of like what is your visit the world. It's a more global on. Its food is much more important than much more Uncontrollable on so. Leo's kind of swimming ended. Knox quagmire to try and get the where eatings debate and he knows what he needs to get I guess it's the i guess with any with any character. I suppose is the is the connection to what is you. And isn't you to me like you kind of your your relating yourself to this other world and this other way of thinking in this other persona but also connected not to what What that means to you. Am i just thought process in any character Am on again with the secular kinda got a wealth of stuff to dig into their frame. So yeah it's i think it's it's a kind of a level of the process. In general i suppose is what i'm saying. Agree with a seven tons of the enjoyment and the opportunity to create a character is very exciting And then to me reading the scripts us read them. I was just struck by how you know. I just had never read anything anything like know. I'm a fan of sifi. But i just. This is such an interesting way of exploring these questions. Like what makes us human what what is consciousness. What's how are we different machines. Whereas whereas i i think these are such rich questions to be explored and i dated. We'll ever get tired of exploring. You know the the answers of ever changing and that to me was is really exciting to get harvey show. That is is exploring you need. A asks has come to the conclusion in her consciousness. I am being ammo alive as happened for her yet or is she still searching. I would say she very much For the first time she definitely them you she is alive. She is entitled to have a life that is her own not one in the life that she was created for which was purely to carefully. Oh and they're not. They're like she ended up living for a bit with hawkins which she ended up against her will so really for the first time in the beginning of series two. She's thinking what's again where what's my place in the world. Who am i. What could i be. I mean i'm that's that's why she's out and she feels she wants to find out the answer. Well we have an amazing royal defect. Grew danneal who works with A dance company in the uk frantic assembly and teeth at me who director and we worked for before sees one. We watched him for about a month All the actors her paying since and we came up with him Or he he's with us this pacific movement that you see in the show so or the rules of of of of simply meant we became with together and then he did work with us individually to make it unique to our characters you know and and civic model the age of your character so really. I often lot to him because without him. You know i have never stood on my own. You haven't seen the sad i fully. I wish they obviously they have to if i sneeze or if my nose ron's accidentally cry when i'm digging emotion seen than that we just have to cut that And yeah i mean in in season one. I was doing lots of things around the house that carrying says there's an actual typewriter fool down. They're not meant to as you don't need to look down at your feet. You know how many sets are miscounted. The numbers debts and just dropped out. Yeah funny somebody like not only is trying to get into something other stuff like i mean. Also the arches here just into us. You know the amount of free plumbing. There is before seeing for for you to go. How many steps is that in konkan steps as you didn't it so that you need to let whatever. Yeah just i'm just after the so say much we saying recently stranger things i've just been excessively i just i thought it was just wonderful in every way the detail in the music and you know and obviously performances. You're amazing yeah I love the film at gattaca. Is one of my. I remember when i first saw that when it first came i was a teenager and really moved me and that kind of scifi that it has the emotional impact has stated me and that's hopefully in the rounds of what we all share. Yeah it makes you think and also makes you feel talking about on his world. We thought it was great. It really nine. Isn't it an expert ben bonds. So i yeah. I think he's brilliant in it I loved it. i loved it. I think it it kind of. I think there's definitely room for more than one shows scoring. I mean it's just rich again. These questions you know what makes us who we are this. This grey rich territories. I i really left it as a different a different kind of jurado..

"But he is the voice of man for straubing corp for the arnold so be fun to have him on. Do a fun topic We can talk strong. We could talk so much with him. But i wanted to go in with a little bit of fun to start a season off. And we're gonna talk about wrestling so we're talking about strong men that crossed wrestling in russia. The come into to strongman. Who could do both and who will do well So that's just going to be off. I thought it was owed. Also if you guys have watched the world to prominent overdue by I guess he was supposed to be in vegas. It was it was paired up with the hathor nettie hall fight got moved from vegas to florida. I moved from florida over to dubai. Which i make. You can't complain if you were going to that show. I'd much rather get into the by the florida but It was just a great show with return. Metavsky cubic hausky but the the best part of the show. That i thought was that they highlighted the women for the first time It she has classes. And it's it's a big deal but this is the first time i've really seen. The women really highlight push it and they grab like eight atop women in the world. It had them over there. So we're lined up. Have melissa peacock gone from canada. She come with third place. Which is just an amazing feat. Because melissa is i guess for the class. It's eighty two kilo mike. She's a middleweight. Yoke 105 athlete for the men in the they had it was. There's no way classes kind like the arnold pro for the women. That's just the way classes you're competing do the same thing. So she went up against donald war and chapman and jessica fifth in and corey butler and it was just. It was a great show noticed hours it was a great show to watch it was very it was cool to see them get their. I've watched it three times already. So i'm You can watch it on the row youtube channel but it just great competition a great setup. So we're talk to her. She also was at the clash record breakers in and she'll be doing clash this year. So we'll talk about that Another one that we're trying to get lined up here is dawn. Sousa him sanit right But he's part of ad l. productions. So if you've been watching any of these live streams whether its nationals whether it's America's strongest man whole clash aries. He's in charge of the life feed In it's just getting better and better if you watch is definitely coming up here. October night is the The clash oh in colorado definitely to watch that Checkout on eighty out productions. He's shares posted up. Just it's it's great to see that for the sport i think it's one thing to that With the smaller shows it's easier to produce because you spend more timely one as go on a time when you get to the bigger shows nationalism g when you're running for five six lanes or whatever. "More or that your your naive or your cynical or is the are there. Are there more firm characteristics. That would suggest your one or ten. I don't actually know. I think there are other things that it's correlated with like having a fantasy life or having vivid daydreaming. You know like you like you can really recall what you're you're daydreaming is about. I don't actually know how much is understood about differences in hypnotize ability but the Structure of the. Brian would that be a type of brand. If it was that site. I went home to the. If it was that you'd have know. More vivid molestation is all that. Is that a tight. Is the brain tight. The some people have more vivid imaginations than others were. I think we could probably get at it from the side of of what's happening when people are are seemed to be successfully hypnotized and there there has been some neuro imaging work on hypnosis and and the place where it's it's actually where the effect of hypnosis and at least in dispute is with pain suppression. I mean there are people who have undergone surgeries you know real surgeries with no anesthetic but hypnosis and this has been attested to for a very long time but i recently had someone on my podcast. Who's who's been working on this in his lap and yet there are many many people have undergone surgery under hypnosis and and then people use hypnosis as a adjunct to anesthesia though the the giving say a local when they might have been given more of a twilight anesthesia. And and so. It's all interesting. That's very interesting. So tell me what happens there. So supposing that works in that and then not screaming now are they feeling pain or no while. I mean they're not feeding. It's also not suppressing dirt mindless that's going. It's something's not get into them but that's impossible isn't because isn't paying a literal physical thing of sign ups johnson. It seem i mean again. I think the work here is definitive. Because i think this topic is his somewhat in in ill repute among scientists. I don't i don't think most neuro scientists are seriously considering focusing on hypnosis as a as a topic but then the neuro imaging work. That's been done that. I'm aware of his found that actually hypnosis is blocking the painful stimuli from from even registering in sensory cortex. Okay so okay. So how is that possible. So that they're underdiagnosis. Whatever that is to the under aci hypnotize. Whatever that is whether it's some so compliance or subconscious and literally the pain isn't get into the pain receptors. Or i will be down. There can be downward. My top down modulation of sensory cortex. Is i think probably in this area in the the mid line in the frontal lobes called the anterior cingulate cortex and that that that shows up in in many different paradigms but it it's definitely involved in pain perception and Well it's there are. There are more senior more executive areas that could inhibit sensory cortex. and yes. I mean that that seems to be is still sizing limited if not even if that was working and it was gone while i still like to think a finger up my ass would bring me out of that. You'll never know until you try and tell furious. Why did why did you do that. He was it was working. What was interesting thing here because it's not clear whether hypnosis is a state you know it's it's definitely advertised as being a state that gets induced and is on the basis of that state that you then become suggestive but it's possible that that the suggestion itself is really the the whole story or or much of it for instance. I think there'd been experiments done where the exact same induction and suggestion process is happening but in one paradigm it's called hypnosis and in another. It's called a relaxation exercise. And it has a very different effect on people just the framing of it. The people thinking they're going to get hypnotized matters as opposed to thinking. They're just relying well but that's why i can't get by. I know it was all about perception. But i still think of pain as literal objective. Thing like you know electricity jump in and her and your Whether you like or not you feel something that is while pine is a pine and now it's not just me. Yes the the pain signal. Let's say at your at your finger right. it's the same. It has to be the same from the finger on in but at a certain point. What you're imagining is pure sensation is being modulated by the rest of what. The brain is doing right n. b. n. and become susceptible to significant influence and even cancellation and we wear in the network of of the brain. That's happening. I'm not sure i'm not sure if may maybe someone has a good sense of it now but i'm just not aware of it but it may still be somewhat mysterious but this released the placebo effect which is also well demonstrated for for pain and for many other things but it's also not understood but it's clearly a belief based process that get started medically efficacious. I mean it becomes a challenge to design drugs. That beat placebos in many cases because they are so effective. Okay so even though even though there is an actual physical act to do with the laws of physics and electricity and all those things then become how you how you perceive in your brian. it becomes subjective. I suppose that's like if you put your foot into avoiding bath by mistake for split seconds you think it's called using the wrong hair and you go and then you go now. It's hot. we're supposed to go rim. Yeah yeah yeah you haven't you haven't had time to okay a. k. a. Kathy kind of the point to take on a here. I think is that a belief is also a physical act in your brain is no less a physical act than you getting. Hit with a hammer. Of course of course. Like i said the man is good company. That could have been the name of the podcast. In fact but We went with the very british absolutely mental. And if you enjoy both our company you can find more of it at absolutely mental dot com..

The Mason Minute
Tired Of Binge Watching (MM #3806)
"The NASA minute. With Kevin mason. A year and a half ago, most of America started to binge watching things. Have people still do it to this day, whether it's on Netflix or Hulu or HBO Max or whatever it is or Disney+. Oh my gosh, we've got so many binge watching choices now. But I found myself binge watching less and less. If I'm going to binge watch something, it's whatever's on the television right then on cable because I'm too tired of having to pay that close of attention. Now it's true there are some shows I've got to watch and I will continue watching no matter how many episodes they put up. But they're only putting out 6 to ten a year or 6 to ten every couple of years. I'm fully invested in those shows. But with a lot of shows, the lava season one, you binge watch that and season two comes out 6 8 ten months later and you're like, well, I'm not sure maybe I will watch, maybe I won't and season three comes along and you're like, well, I have to go back and watch season two. That means I have to watch season three and now I'm 20 episodes down. It's just as easy to turn the TV on and find something to watch and watching it for however long you watch it. I find myself when I'm binge watching, watching a whole lot more TV and doing a whole lot less. Maybe that's the problem.

"Guess we do bond. Yeah i guess like you said we do but this emotional roller coaster and they're they have these individual lives at come together and they both It's sort of this Fluctuating like love hate relationship. Time be ckd. Eighty with more other characters fall training to get to see julia interact with other purposes that we haven't had impassioned. Yeah so those are. Yeah and there's this big journey for them to find bernard and and it's about a really enormous task but they've got to undertake and stella maeve reflects on julius journey. I love. I love the floating. I i love when she kind of when she questions religion she questions god and you know it's interesting that we use these metaphors. We use the metaphor of magic to sort of mask. These real things. Right and sarah. John incredible job the whole writing to sort of talk about it without talking about it right which is great. Not a fantasy and science is all about talking about these real things. But masking it. In the fantastical worlds. And i love just when she kinda questions she finally lets her guard down and she goes into The world of religion and wanting to believe in more and coming from a family of atheists and is like okay. I'm going to surrender to the good and and her in katie and they all set up this to speak with the gods and it's completely wrong and it's never into yes. It's not even religious history and just questioning like the whole existential questioning. Anything is a higher power. God religion all of it. And it's like the minute it. It's just a funny thing with like the minute you relied your or like happens all the time in so many different so that was. That was very cool moment. Katie has always a little bit of a rough patch. She gonna keep eighty now. That's you know. that's it's interesting. Because i talked to the writers about this. She does go on a very different journey. This this season but That thing that thing that we talked to is that there's always that through line of that edginess because that's innately who she is. So i said this earlier. I was like she. I think she came from like the streets of magic so to speak because she really been doing it for a while grew up with a And has his very different view of it. And i think that's given her. This really tough edgy facade. And this and it's what's protected her for so long. And i think that's always thank you and that is my look at the magician season two. There's a lot more good stuff coming on the show. If you i mean there's one character in particular that i've seen video on the making of that's pretty cool. I'm really looking forward to seeing her. Appear on the series. If you know what i mean till the next time. This is tony tomato. Thanks for listening. "That's a magical bank heist. We were like christmas episode totally. He's the first to the bank place in western big chunk as should should up next year. Probably the first couple of magicians in jason. Ralph who is of course quentin coldwater in. Olivia taylor dudley. Who was alice quinn. This really hard. Not to spoil. I mean the last season. I think we had like a really nice slow. Burn of of kind of like the romance coming together and then finding each other and how they were able to how they needed each other and chain of each other and then there was a betrayal And the aftermath of that is something that we're still dealing with. yeah. I mean the relationships not. It's a very complicated thing. And whether they're together or not. It's not going anywhere anytime soon. They haven't been able to you know we'll see them deal with it in the season for sure comparable to shed. You know very complicated trying to lay her in spoil my word choice. Olivia taylor dudley. Had this observation just happy. We're all back looking pretty grim. And it's we're all back but you know it's not shows not getting lighter anytime soon and i think that this year the writings nothing even better and more darker and the world's we get to explore. Now we're in philly and we're in dealing with real magic on a completely different level so the stakes are much higher for characters are higher in the scope of the world..

"Talk for your sifi talk daughter. Hi welcome to sifi talk. Because i look at the magicians season number two on sci fi actually two years ago now. Two shows premiered on fi. I thought that were game. Changers the expanse based on these great bestselling novels and this show the magician based on another series of books as well. The cool thing about this show really takes kind of like what younger adults. But not as young as maybe the harry potter crew and how they deal with magic what all the problems of being young adults yet also would. All the problems of having magic here are. Some interviews are recorded at new york comic con as i participated in the round tables once again here are john mcnamara and sarah gamble who are the show runners. I think season two is without giving anything away. I hope and i'm the worst this but it's kind of a giant disguise. He done it or rather. Who's doing stuff happening. There's more than just one feedback. And it's i sort of my mind breaking news. Room raiders. only structurally onto the white tone or content like christie. How fun it is. We turn to that last chapter. And you're like no way and that's we hope. This season kind of delivers the whole season is stuff is happening and pillory on earth and obviously someone's responsible. We played totally fair. Someone you know someone who's a character someone who's been there from early. Yeah yeah you know. We talked a lot about Verte express force people to watch. It fell asleep so they still don't know the ending like those news. I had a lot of fun. This charity too really fun. We kinda got in a groove. Ov- it credible directors Equitable writers and cast ruin. The goes. if he can be fun dark right. i think it's gonna bigger than season. One as well at the very end of the season introduced hillary and we got in there and we are a lot this event if it feels like a bigger movie and season two..

Sandy shows mike the pearl beds in his getting angry underwater as she finds the broken oyster shells as they are walking out of the water. Mike tell sandy that it is the perfect place for scuba. Hit and run. Sandy tells mike that some of the pros have been growing for thirty years. Mike her exactly how they cultivate the pearls. Sandy says that it's a secret that came with her father from japan but since they won't but since she won't tell them the secret should make it up to them with the best dinner he ever had now. The next morning mike is ready to set a trap for the pro robbers. He's hiding in the rocks with a pair of binoculars in his full scuba rig looking for any suspicious activity. He spots a boat but he doesn't see the divers go into the water on the other side of the boat. He does however see their bubbles and heads out with his camera to catch them in the act at the pro beds. Mike hides behind a rock with the cameras. The divers approach as they start to rob the beds. The other bad guy grabs the camera and pulls out the film now while the underwater fight is going on. Sandy was watching from the beach and she suspects trouble and his racing to the pro beds with her boat. The bad guys rip mics regulator out of his mouth but as they are scared off by the sound of sandy's boat. Mike is left helpless. Miraculously mike doesn't drown he recovers we see some eagle raising the background as he heads to the surface he's blowing bubbles all the way up we now see the camera resting on the bottom. Mike struggles back on. The boat is gasping for air. A sandy asks him if he is all right in the next scene. Now we see mike lying on a chair. Sandy's giving him not some tea. He says he doesn't want anymore and starts to work on a plan to catch the bad guys lieutenant dave. Sandy says she wants to let them have the pearls. Because they're not worth mike's life. But mike says it's not about the pearls anymore. It's a personal grudge. He needs dave's help to put them on tv now. Mike is going to use the underwater television camera to catch the. The's he shows. Dave how it's going to work as he pans across the island. Just mike points to camera towards dave in. Sandi dave says hey look at the prettiest girl in blue island has sandy strikes. Oppose the camera. And she says she's the only girl on lulu island as mike looks to take off underwater. Sandy gives him a big kiss for luck. And mike says he's never had any better luck back underwater with the tv camera. Mike is waiting for all three villains as they are. Now jumping in the water to steal the pearls but this time one of them has a spear gun. Mike has the tv camera pointed at the pro beds. But there's a problem. The bad guys are coming from the wrong direction and they're not on tv. The ambush mike. Who's only hope is to move maneuver them into the frame of a camera. Chaos prevails as they fight and slash at one. another finally might get them to the pearl beds. The spear gun is fired and strikes the bed. Fortunately sandy is watching and as yells to dave look at this cast off now. The cops are headed to the fight during the fight. Mike's left arm is slashed but he continues fighting pulling a regulator out of one of the bad guys. Mouth just then. He sees the to hawaiian police officers free diving or swimming trucks. And says they look like angels with the odds now even justice prevails and the bad guys lose again in the final scene near back on the shore of an allure island. Mike's arms bandage. Dave asks in the. He needs a ride back to honolulu. Sandy tells dave that mike is going to be on vacation. Dave says the sandy. Nobody likes a cop. Sandy says she will give him the best testimonial but also gives mike. Another big kiss to which mike replies that is the best testimonial in my life. I'm not exactly sure where this episode was filmed for the top side scenes but it sure does look like hawaii however you never know when it comes to television or the movies. The part of sandy was played by nobu mccarthy and kendrick played lieutenant dave calcutta and here's one final interesting tidbit. This episode was remade in the nineteen eighty-seven version of sea hunt and it was titled pearl beds. And just so you know. I'm still trying to get my hands on that. One thousand nine hundred eighty seven series with ron ely. Maybe someday

And i you know it's funny. I which is a testament to her into the rest of the team. I reached out to her immediately and was like. I can't believe you did this. And she was like you know it's not me. It was our first. Ad it hits. It's all his fault that we were able to do this. I reject jason. Who's offer a d. He said no it was all hanalei. Kind of everybody was Sharing in the blame for it. But i'm i it's probably it's it's one of my favorite episodes of the series as Comes at a moment. When you're in production it was kind of right in the middle of the whole and we were into like. We're just dipping into the rhode island's in late fall early winter It was just really we cross boarded so like when you ask jobs episode five we would shoot two episodes at once and so is enjoyable was never so clearly delineated that you even knew exactly. You didn't shoot chronologically. We didn't shoe chronologically in terms like this is episode one then sued and three would do one and two together three enforcing other five and six and so on and so that one dot. It was blended in sue the next episode as well and just it was just. It was really fun it was really i. I was dreading it frankly into it and we rehearsal like on location where we're shooting at this campground in rhode island than like you know. I remember pulling into the parking lot the first morning mersal in just being like this was actually the most. I've probably had on all under whole season. Really cool. And i'm excited for people to see that i think the whole season runs really hard in our momentum guy. I like a story that runs like an eighteen wheeler going downhill with no brakes and feel like season. Two really does that. It's it's really aggressive runs really hard. I also think there are a couple moments. The last couple of episodes of season two episode five The just kind of explode everything you saw. Was you know when you feel like you've got to show figured out and you know what it can do and then and then it kind of explodes all your expectations and takes the show. You know to a different place. I love that kind of thing. You know i I love to feel like a while. You know there's so much more here to discover the so much more that's possible and the last fan question. Is charlie maxed based on anyone. You know i was really i. Don't i don't tend to base performances or interpretations of characters on other performances in other interpretations of characters. I i really use the book. This is the first time essentially not the first time but but in such a the roadmap of the book in the graphic novel joe created was such a guest and i used it throughout my experience of both seasons. You know jane. i talked a lot about it in. I felt like all of the questions that i had were answered in one of those texts. And if they weren't then. I sort of turned jamie to kind of you know. Really be my My my compatriot in deciphering this guy is and what motivates him so for me. It was much more about Manx a man out of time and figuring out a way to navigate bad at integrated in believable and grounded. Way was my goal at. It's been a blast so far. I can't believe that we're at this point already and Sharing it with the world at this particular moment as well. I think you know it's it's called contextualized this In in what's going on a larger sense endings importance that we acknowledge That we invite people to go on this journey but we also respect and understand The attention age the larger issue socially politically that are happening in the world. Right now on everybody on this call is aware of that and engaged in a lot of different ways and encourage people to also do that. You know as we're moving forward because this isn't a zoo extraordinary time a lot of ways so just acknowledgement. I think sports yet at the end of the day. It's it's it's a fun. tv show. Maybe maybe it's a chance to take a breath you know and and and give yourself a little mental vacation Or living in highly charged very stressful Times and and we may get to the other side of them and and find our find the whole country in a much better place much healthier place in much but but you gotta go through the bad to get to the good the tough stuff to get to the at the end of the day. It's a it's a it's a fun. Tv show when and hopefully you know it gives people a little pleasure and then the next day it's it's you know it's it's hard work Making a country that's worth lebanon. "Another thing. We talk about a lot on this. Podcast which is a big thing for season two is open relationships and i wondered what what you felt needed to be discussed about that that you weren't seeing and that was true for you as both. What's so funny like i'm not. We're not a monolith as gay people. Obviously but i mean just in the microcosm of mine friend groups. Like i think everyone. That's in the long term relationship is some variation of. It's it's extremely rare in the in my case i'm just waiting speaking to me and my friends that a relationship is like totally closed completely. The door's always some doors are wide open doors or like trista creek unit and it's just really a part of our culture and and i just said not really seen shoe much expiration of that Now the version that works for in this in this particular season is just one facet of open relationships which is like basically. There isn't berge. There is version doesn't negate all the beautiful versions of relationships that i have found. Which is that people opened things up as a last ditch effort to save the relationship and of course it ends up creating more problems and then it goes kabui so i think in the relationship that tanner is in with richard and season shoe. Tanner my love interest. you know. They have their rules and you know. It's very strict and very regimented. But really i think it's it's it's channel wanting to find a different way

I started doing it on on because i'd be like i don't know what you're talking about because i'm not watching it anymore and And i've lost track when i was watching. I didn't know what happened exactly in each episode because we blocked you which is shooting episodes at a time. So we're flipping between episodes in a day. You know so you lose track of so nobody it was. It was amazing. I mean it's great to get instant. Gratification would not only not only in that kind of That way that. I think we have to temper as performers. Because it's weird. It's a weird world. But i come from a theater background as well where you get immediate feedback during the performance right and even though this isn't exactly during the performance informing performance. You get immediate feedback. All the sudden watching the twitter feed you. Know something happens. Spoiler alert west coast everyone on the west coast away from twitter. And it's a very new experience for me. Like i'm not up until january. I wasn't very twitter literate and i have the permanent fans of shore really end up sifi. In general i think a really generous really loyal. I'm there's a lot of really deep artists out some banner that is you know. Come through that people have sent me is amazing like these people should be. You know having shows yes it shows me. There's a lot of talent out there that hasn't been tapped. That people don't necessarily get a chance to see and we are starting to see that more and more things like america's got talent and these you know there's a reality. I'm not gonna get into my abuse on reality television. But there are some elements of these competitions shows. Talent show said. I really fantastic and kind of democratizing the talent. They're the people who would never have a chance. We see or have a shot. Forget it to have their their moment at least get up there that one time and do their thing. I think that's great. That's kind of a part of our digital age are for a lot of it so again. I'm not going to get into it a lot of the downfalls sort of for me about social media and that and the immediate kind of access to everything from a lot of beauty to it a lot of Possible connection that allows us which is amazing. I think it also kind of waters down the quality of our financial as well. But there's a lot of. There's a lot of good and a lot of beauty. Found miss a lot of talent out there you know. There's a lot of beautiful artists looking around this planet that maybe get a chance to be seen actually finished their communication loop in there are ready. Thanks a lot guys tears and now for you. premium listeners. special is not over. I actually have a recent conversation. I did with steven my anna and also neil napier about season two. I re watched season one. I've been wanted. It was fantastic. And i didn't have to wait every week so it was great. It looks like from what i the bits and pieces. I have seen it. Looks like the steven. Weber's group is almost like in the cold. Arrange and then. They're they're investigate. How does his group kind of affect the team when they investigate a little bit those pointer but just kind of little teasing as to what they are The cba wherever grew it really is a cult of sorts. they found a very different world worldview and they have been living in isolation on the island for her generation and Really you know. Bring a new set of obstacles to to our people in and You know in in identifying and trying to find a pathogen and then of course you know those there will be certain characters who have much going on with that than the leading off initially. But i think it's a an interesting challenge to you know kind parachute down into a group as we did season one and suddenly have to Able with an existing power structure is i think clinical situation And and and establish relationship and be kind. The new people there who are the avocado. And you know push things around and and and poking around and all the dark corners. Yeah it really. It really keeps all the cdc characters who are coming And starting interact with these people really off hours which is I think keeps it really exciting. Because we don't know what's going to happen any given moment i hear you. Well that's one thing about helix. You never can depend on anything happening the way you think. That's for sure but we and we love. That is the whole immortal. Storylines still gonna play a part in this season at all very much One of the things that we want to do is go to different play Location wise and show. Let's show Dealing primarily with the new pathogen but at the time ring along our air and bring along the factories from season one. So it's not a complete reinvention We're not american horror story We're right for the reinvent the wheel everything we do Reinvent something and bring other people off though. Yeah absolutely. "season two" Discussed on Sci-Fi Talk: The First Season
"Definitely a science roy he tells us about this cast and how they work. Oh it's great. It's it's it's always interesting when you get a group of actors together and they embrace the material and suddenly materials better on camera than is page. Which is what you're always looking for. You know i've been fortunate. Working a lotta casts that tend to lift what you're what you're doing and they become people really join them and watch. There's a dynamic between the writers in the room and the cast on stage where you start writing to their voices learn what their strengths are and playing that and seeing the chemistry between them as they play so now moving to the second year of the show. And we kind of know this cast. We're gonna know what they can do. And you start carving to show a different way that you did the first season where you worked so far ahead and you're still like writing the characters as you thought they were originally and then you watching you kind of behind kurd. And then you haven't even edited for a while so it takes a while until you've kind of figured out who your what's your on samba is and what they're capable of. And then you take. Apply that knowledge into the second answer. I liked what you get when you bring a character like jerry ryan. Tonight show canisters things that really gives an internal cia. What she liked the first choice to play. I think she was. She was one of those roles that came up with some are saying we should jerry ryan. Well yeah but she's probably not going to do it and the next thing you know there's more With helix but i wanna tell you about some really cool changes on fi talk premium. So i really hope you'll join me for great season coming up on scifi talk premium gorski. Who has dr julia walker. Had quite an arkansas season. One returns once again what i've gotten from season to already. I know that my character just like the first season. I went through a pretty intense character. Arc i mean they really love to put me through the wringer it left to torture mean don't they you know the box the muzzle the whole. Okay shower attack But what i've gotten from the first episode. That i've seen it's it's really going to attach the psychological thriller aspect of the show. Which was kind of my favorite part to be on his. What makes it unique and mysterious and spooky. And it's going to go far into that. I'm still trying to find out what's happening with me. I mean. I think she might start playing a number of angles and I know that writers like to spring things on us last minute. But i think that i'm going to be all over. The mob must be confusing even for me to figure out. Every time i knew episode just like last season it was. That's happening to me now. Okay you know it's In because it saifi and because the way we shot the show gave a lot of creative freedom and so they can kind of go anywhere and exciting part. So i think joel's definitely i mean. Let's face it. She had a lot taken from her and and a lot happened to her. So there's the core of who she was but some of those things will change but then she's gonna hold onto some of that so i guess people do whatever they have to do to survive. She describes the shower scene between walker. And peter what's funny. Is that when we started shooting. I'd only read the pilot episode. And then we're in the middle of shooting. I get up so tune and said oh so. There's a shower scene. That's interesting thanks guys but Yeah that was. That was a surprise to but i thought it was amazing and it was a lot of fun to shoot honestly just because Brad turner director on that one. He's a really classy guy. I'll admit i was a little nervous. Because i didn't know how they were gonna shoot it and i'm a mom of two kids. Nobody needs to see that. How are we shooting this buddy But he's he's a classy guy and he said look. It's going to be frosted glass and it's going to be just really about the relationship and the whole i felt so completely comfortable. Neal is awesome. His great person to work with these totally professional. And i knew him from before too and so i just felt i was completely comfortable with the crew with everyone and we were able to go for. It ended up being a lot of fun to sheep. Seen it was terrifying. I mean even. When i watched it i still felt this thing in my stomach and to be honest they pulled back on what they showed because what they shot. I think the first cut was. It was really long and the screaming. That was happenings. I wasn't i didn't know how i was. We didn't have anything planned. But the way that i was screaming. It's just it just gets you in the stomach. It's just not good. She tells us more about possible. Triangles like the allen. Farag julia walker. Sarah jordan one from season one there might be a couple of triangles going on and something that i love about the way they did. This show is with the women characters. At least especially with julia. She's not there because of her ex husband. She doesn't exist because of her relationships. I think that's important with women and tv and film that's why. Tv's gotten so good characters mazing these days So i love that. They would set something up and you want something to happen but they never either have time to address it. Or there's always something better to do and i thought that was really interesting about last season. That you don't burn Billy campbell with allen like we didn't have a conversation about us until episode ten. And so i thought that was. That was really interesting so those things are going to even in the first episode of season. Two there's some interesting things that happened but it comes out in a way that you don't expect of course it. Hasn't he looks okay. So there's a new location. We can't talk about specifics. But how is it like kind of working in this Well i haven't been there yet. I haven't seen it yet. We start in two weeks so I'm actually heading to montreal straight. After this i can get settled and start training and stuff like that.

"I taped from the press line at san diego comic con. let's kick things off with tory. Kittles who is broussard. And peter jacobsen who is or maybe was first proxy snyder heater. Nice to meet you. Tori how are you guys. You know for snyder. It just seems like at the end of the season. where is he exactly with the new. He's not where he was out of the office I can't tell exactly where he is but he's around. He is definitely out of power back in power in a more minimal way in a very Very different place Still trying his best to sort of maintain control the situation. And it's sort of a brave new world for first nighter. Which is exciting for me. And for broussard i think is this a new look. Oh yeah yeah. Yeah i look does yeah. Yeah yeah you know. It didn't take the beer for him to be scared anyway. so you know. I think is having to pick up the pieces i think. He thought he had a plan. Last season of where things will go. And then i think that the very last minute katie through curveball that he wasn't expecting me. And so i i think it's gonna be fascinating to see how that all plays out Ultimately was still being occupied and we still have to fight these people who are trying to have us move Live under their rule of thumb And so you know. I think that's where we'll we'll find him w- also get into his his historian a little bit more why he does the things he does. And how did he become. You know the do that was trying to get this person to scenes that. I thought kind of painted him a little differently when they were trapped in the bar when he went to see his daughter to heavily his complex men which is which is a testament to the writing. Carlton ryan g. Great job all of these guys too. I think the show succeeds. Is that these characters and first glance you see. Well he's resisting. he's collaborating empower. He's not there so well drawn so much deeper than that and For snyder that was the joy of playing him was that you've got somebody who's not just your normal data villainous man control. He's got. I did i felt for. You watched an episode. Which when you're i was like he's an asshole but saw sea with you when your daughter and i thought that's that's just those testament to you and your performance is really great so i agree with you on that and it was wonderful. I don't much steel. So get that in your head. But i'm just saying you can continue to watch my work and sort of learning to do it work. You'll see. I think you'll see the tory will be better this season because we'll have had the first season to see what i did and then moving forward. That's why they did it. No taking notes from this guy actually alley walker told me that just cracked her up every time you do work. Oh yeah she's she's l. Root it's a fun relationship between us. Because i never can get on solid footing with her. And she's very much in control She's a terrific actress very fun. At times. You've got you both play kind of morally. Ambiguous guys do they characters ever follow you home not him no no no. I can't i can't go home like that. No don't think it's really ambiguous. You know he's pretty clear about how the lindsay's willing to go to get their So but the things that he does tori no could not you know. No i have to leave that At at the sentenced to man to death from saw through under false pretenses and similarly. I was doing what i thought was right And i've done that in real life not doing right but sentenced a man to death so it was not that it wasn't that difficult for me. no problem taking it home. Well you guys have a great series. Enjoy your work in it. Too solid actors. Such a pleasure to watch thank you. Here's creator ryan cundell mentioned to him that. I'm a cuban refugee. And i kind of knew even though i was young what it was like to live in an occupied country in this place. Planet aliens invading. So there's a lot of familiar themes to me and we talked about that and also season two of college like to be a person. Were some outside much. Worse comes in and takes over and as we went through and you know we drew from soviet stories and stories of poland both under nazi rule and then under soviet later on and then want him annella always director who directed much episodes of milot accessories last season. These are producing director this year. Directing five episodes of the season president. Hero ruben argentina. The dictatorship in the seventy six. He had all new gorillas that were government separatist in new people that had been disappeared with plane of won out over the ocean drops and and never heard from again so he had all these tremendous stories out of that world. That just really inspired us more. We realize was this. Is this story resonates as it in for you. You know growing up in cuba with so many people around the world because unfortunately it's in our nature to squelched grass for The weaker size of our ourselves inactivated and desire for our. That's why i think that's the show is relevant. Now he relevant again and fifteen years preceding two spoilers. of course. obviously there's a lot going to akron aliens. Learn more about history where they're from. Yeah we're gonna learn a lot more about what's going on the occupation land and they are people how they control everything and what. We're gonna see much more of the world zoos so we wanna get this overseas analyst block loss whereas in santa monica this year. Another block within the call. And we're gonna see outside the walls of the colorado outside story that takes so we're really excited. We think that expands out also shows the darker. Much more aggressive dork. Yes he's season. This year says tougher characters and willing katie themselves they. The relationship was born mark and now they're physically located. Will they come back together if they do come back together. We'll be able to reconcile they have is a really rich place to tell acciari. Sally snyder. He's i mean. He essentially lost favor.

TV's Top 5
Lord of the Rings Series Will Cost Amazon $465m
"Over at amazon is worth from. It's a story from late last week. The retail giant's highly anticipated. Lord of the rings will cost an eye popping four hundred and sixty five million dollars for its first season. According to the new zealand government's official information act filing. Yeah i'm gonna say that again one more time just to let it sink. Four hundred sixty five million dollars for one season of television and we don't even know how many episodes it's going to be. My understanding is that that figure includes the acquisition of the rights. So i don't know that anyone really knows what that figure entails because we reported that the rights alone were north of two hundred and fifty million dollars just for global rights alone to the property. But that's still an awful lot for one season of television usually those rights. You amortize the cost. Over the life of the series so that the first season drops down cetera. The shows already been renewed for season two. I think it's already you know. The plan is for five seasons in spinoff. so are they trying to amortize. That cost over. Are they gonna shoot seasons one and two back to back and this is quote unquote one-season a television that stretches over into two seasons of of television and and and the budget is that for two full seasons. I don't know either way. That is an eye popping number and if it doesn't include global rights even if you take out that to fifty a crazy amount of money it's still like more than more than double the cost of what a season of game of thrones would cost it's astounding. It is a tremendous amount of money and a tremendous amount of money for a show which has no costly above the line talent. It's not like the eight hundred and fifty people who are starring in that show are making a million dollars per episode. They are being paid. One would presume a reasonable amount. Let's just say eight a non impressive amount because they're not stars. You're not spending this money on cast. You're spending this money on on rights and production sets and costumes and and the global rights like we talked about. You know like yeah this. This number doesn't make any sense to me. It's a lot of money this a lot

"A single narrative. Thank you guys. Miguel gomez agustin also known as gus whose character now has a new role in this series. I think it's a beautiful thing. I think it's great that they showed a guy comes from tough environments on the streets and the hood and the ghetto. And they show him that he's actually trying to do right and it's not just going to be a victim of his certain sense. He loves his mother very much. No and he's driving forces. You know. I want to do the right thing. My mom and my family. I wanna get us out of this environment. And the best way that i can. Because he doesn't have all the tools around to be able so the show that side of him and for them to take that from. I think makes it even a deeper level of wanting to do the right thing and redeem his own family and revenge and anger and love and sadness. And you see this guy. This is going through all this sort of stuff and that has integrity. I think so It's it's really great for for for the character for the show and for season two somewhere to go with the people see another size. They don't just judge a book by you see right away and you might have a certain opinion of him because of what other films are other patrols of this sort of characters but if you give them a chance something good that's what i'll take away. The most. he seems to just keep missing the team in season one. Will he meet up and possibly join them in the second season. They definitely cost. They finally finally start to meet each other And yeah. I'm waiting for that too. I i think he can offer team a lot with with the training that he has growing up in on the streets in the streets can basically in the street. You can die at any moment just like the weather just was happening now these vampires and these bloodsuckers and all that exists right now in the street like you can go outside and somebody can just take your life and you gotta sorta be trained for that. And it's sort of his shaved head tattoos. It's just battle armor. She's a defense mechanism. So he knows that very well and i think he can help the team as far as what steps to take the steps not to take an even deeper than that. He's just a person is trying to do the right thing. Flawed makes it out of mistakes. But he's trying to do the right thing and he's not going to give up until he redeems his mistake. I think so. I think so. I think it's important. I think his driving forces is is love gone forces. Low can go a long way. I think he has a very low tolerance for bullshit. It's really not what you say to me is what's happening. What's going on. are you doing this. you're not to him either. Yes or no fighter die you know so helps instead of having like a questioning and there's no you down or you're not down are we. Are we going. we're not going. I think that's his approach is all in or he has one goal and if you can help them achieve their goal. He's going to ride with you. If you not chuck hogan the co writer of the novels were the del toro and also brought some of the episodes in season. One talks about his involvement. This sees no. I've been fully involved Learned a first season really. Did i mean everyone did writing crew on and i feel like we've really stepping up. You know season two So been monitored some fun to watch the show of all from the inside And i think it will show on the outside you know for for people start watching season one with so much about Devolving mystery of what's going on and you know how these creatures get here. Vk season two of the people of new york are aware that there's a threat. They're aware of so they were able to react and interact with them in very different ways. So so it's less writing wise less exposition stories out there right now. We can really play in the space that we created season one. New things I think the biggest new thing is probably again People are aware that there is a threat. And they're and they're trying to hold off so this city councilwoman in staten island. Staten island because of geography. It's an island covered nearby Surrounded by by water so they're able to their out the vampires from there and she kind of rises to prominence within new york city because of her success in defeating the of empires is a character. Who wasn't in the book at all and really grew out of out of us. Thinking big picture will be needed for season. Two and how to sort of personified new yorkers response to display but seeing them on screen as much differed of with. They're called the feelers their children who were Who were blind. They could turn by the by the master. I said i had to sort of extrasensory. And they're expert Quick so they're very Slinky very scary Creepy of special that Kelly turned vampire sorta come under her wing almost like her children in a very good we. I mean it's so much fun for us to be able to go back and forth. In time i mean that is really sort of his creation. Story there but But yeah we will see We will go back in time and try to think we will. We will see other things not necessarily focused on him. But he's in it and there's another character who opt reacts with any in the past Not an ancient but another Very interesting very different. There's more sci fi talk so stay tuned back on fi talk. I'm tony natalie. Brown plays kelly good weather. Who is now. The vampire mother to the children have been night. You could say but her son. Zack is still very much on her. Mind the custody battle that never. It's it's still a fight for exact. Over what kelly things best versus. What things best. I mean i'm not out to harm him to turn him connecting the only new way. Kelly knows how to connect. And it's painful to not be with this with the person that you love and connect with the most so there's this huge void and sympathy that i have for kelly and i should stop at nothing to get him back in the beginning. Kelly's very singular in her focus in the master has let her out on a fairly long lead to do her bidding and in turn his own but she's she's more freethinking higher functioning more upright less twitchy a bit more of a mature vampire if you will as the season progresses emotional palette does expand you have access to memories and the master can do as he sees fit but by allowing that. I think allows you more abscess to act out his wishes. The best part in it was primarily my experience in season two such an amazing time working with these young performers who are so physically gifted and really let me off the hook so i'm not nearly as nimble and a lot of the vam scurry around on all fours and it wasn't my forte. So i get to sort of stand there and have them do my bidding. But it's a new family for kelly. It's a surrogate family. I just can't wait to see. More of a national geographic. Take on mama. Bear and her cubs. She feels a connection to them. I mean they're they're.

Schools over another five minutes and all their problems would have been over. They'd be dead his advice. Don't play games with the ocean. The brothers gibb tell mike. They were just practicing. What was in the book. Mike gave them. Mike doesn't really believe them but they take off and as the boat depart mike find frank's wallet on the pier. Apparently he lost it. Doing to fight with mike. He's not frank brennan but frank bronson the plot thickens. Wonder if my god is three hundred dollars the scene now shifts to fisherman's warf and mike is getting the low down on the bronson brothers. They haven't been abalone fishermen for years and there's a fourth brother mark now mike looking for their boat but he spots it on often abandoned peer in oakland and decides that he needs to scuba dive out to see what's up. The board is empty. But before mike can get on board the three bronze brothers show up his only option. Hide under the boat when the engine starts. He grabbed a dangling. Bow-line and hitches a ride. They're up to no good. The pressure is tremendous as he hangs on an fears of the blades of the prop behind them. But the boat finally slows then stops. And larry johnny jump in on scuba and have an extra set a gear. What's going on. Mike surfaces and sees their right off alcatraz. It's two against one. Nothing new for mike nelson. He follows them down to some rocks underwater where they deploy a surface buoy. Then we see a convict one zero nine eight six. That would be mark bronson. He died into the water now. Mike gets it as he sees the convict getting into a wet suit. And putting on the gear. Mike shoots a flare off to signal. The guards on alcatraz hoping it works. Mike is now fully rigged mask wetsuit. Tank regulator weight belt and knife and their high tailing it off against a strong title current. But larry turns and he spots mike. He's going to fight a rearguard action while johnny and markswoman. It's a knife fight. And it's a good one larry's tough clever and slippery but might get behind. Him cuts his air hose and brings him to the surface. And that's where we see. Mike's knife into larry's first stage. The flare did its job. And there's a patrol boat from the island coming on the scene that's one bronson in the bag on the boat. They followed the brothers bubbles and when they catch up mike dies back in lights off a flare and pokes it at the brothers and another massive underwater fight breaks out mike pulls off marks masks shuts air off and shoves him johnny he then puts johnny in a stranglehold and brings the two brothers to the surface. Mike has thwarted escape attempt. Larry says on the boat. It was a pretty good scheme. Yeah mike doesn't think so. Wow this first. Episode new year was jam packed with some great underwater fight scenes. I guess they really wanted to get everyone excited about the show again. And you most definitely will recognize johnny bronson. That was leonard. Nimoy yes mr spock. He shows up again. So that's the alcatraz story from nineteen fifty-nine the first episode of season. Two of seon. Hope you enjoyed it. I'll be back again soon with another installment of seon. It's still alive here on scuba shack radio.

Assumptions about hurricane season face winds of change
"11. The planet is warming and it's having a notable impact on whether rising water temperatures are fueling a stronger and more active tropical storm season, and that is prompting scientists can to consider starting the Atlantic hurricane season two weeks earlier. Well, let's learn more now with Alison Wing. She's an assistant professor for Florida State University's Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science. She joins us on Skype. Thanks for being with us. We appreciate it. Good afternoon. Thanks for having me first to set this up. Describe the changes that we have been witnessing in terms of these earlier name tropical storms. We're starting to see the stuff earlier and earlier, aren't we? Yes. So in the last six hurricane seasons, all six of those years we have had storms named storms form in May before the official start of the hurricane season on June 1st and so It is something that seems to be happening more and more more frequently recently what our weather researchers considering besides an earlier hurricane season to accommodate these changes. One thing that the National Hurricane Center has already started. For this year. They're going to be issuing their tropical weather outlooks actually starting on May 15 now, which are issued every six hours during the season, just to provide overall overview of what's happening with weather in the tropics. And that would be something to help. You know, people be more aware of what's going on in the tropics, and you know if there's risks of tropical storms or hurricanes forming, But pushing the start to the actual official start to the season earlier is something that you know, could improve public awareness of the risk even more on because when we have these these storms Before hurricane season officially starts. The public isn't always necessarily as aware of the risk they may not have, you know, gotten their supplies and prepared their their homes yet for it, And so it's really a consideration and in order to recognize that we do have storms that happened before June 1st and you know what can we do to make the public As prepared as possible. And is there a way to try to impart to the public? How the storm should be rated like how strong we should expect? Storm's coming our way. It seems like sometimes there's confusion about that. Well, I think one thing to keep in mind is that the wind speed that we used to category categorize storms is category 12 and so on and so forth. That's only one aspect of the type of damage we can can receive from tropical storms and hurricanes. And so I think more and more. Forecasters are emphasizing the full range of impacts from winds be damaged, but also coastal flooding from storm surge inland flooding from rainfall and as well as the potential for tornadoes actually to be embedded inside hurricanes. And so the National Weather Service has some some products that emphasized those and I think that you know we going to see communication of this full range of impacts more and more, and you shouldn't focus solely on the
