"And he found a guy that could do crazy stuff and he invested in like, hey, and this is pre Sean white pre all those people. Like, hey, you seem to do crazy tricks. Like, yeah. And these guys are making no money. It's like, I'll pay you money to do crazy tricks for me. And he kind of had that vision for it, right? And then give a shout out to Matt violas who weirdly, he's more famous by his nickname than he is by his name. Mayhem is his nickname. He would shape under the word mayhem. I'm sure you've seen it. It's usually written in a semicircle. If you were to show you the mayhem graphics, you'd be like, I know exactly what that is. I've seen it many times. Yeah, I'm like, look. So this was like in the 90s. I think I know what this is. I don't know. I just want to make sure I'm looking at the right thing. What's the full company name? It's called lost. You typed in mayhem. Oh, okay, yes, I do know this now. Okay, sorry. Did you practice times look at surfboards? But now I know it. Yes, I have seen it. It's on. It's on more t-shirts than it's on, surfboards. So Matt bilos started lost enterprises. And at the time, loss was like the brands were all abound and quicksilver, which were more fashion brands, and then he was like, and they were this was also in the 80s, so everything's like bright and super colorful. And he kind of went opposite of all that. He's like, dude, I'm like a grimy guy. I don't have money for sponsors. We're going to build up as like the people's board. You know what I mean? And he just kind of did it his way. The story of lost enterprises is similar to it's not it's similar but not because the surface industry are existed, whereas snowboarding didn't exist. Carpenter was creating something that didn't exist. But yellow is kind of went the other way. And he's like, he was the one that was the one that was valuing tricks at the time. That regards similar.

"Goldman Sachs just making money off the retail. Robinhood guys, like, oh, I'm trading on alpha because squawk box said this. Yeah, it was a good chance. Come to a conclusion on Thursday. Okay, Jacob's world. Yes, I've seen, okay, that's a bad way of telling that joke, Jacob, what'd you say is, you know, who's your favorite skateboarder? Oh, God. I mean, I want to say Sean white just because he can do so many different things with Tony Hawk's the goat. Do you ever see his brother skate? Yeah. Yeah. They're really good. All right, Bitcoin price were traces from $25,000 ahead of U.S. FOMC minutes release. Is there a big fall gunman that continuously trying to reclaim that psychological level many times in the last few days, but and it did hit 25 one 26 before it started retracing two lower levels. They witnessed a reversal right from the 200 week moving average, a strong resistance. If the price closes this week above it, that is a massive bullish rally that could start. Interesting. Lee, the same level will fully eliminate bears and bulls will take over the trend. With market sentiment, highly bullish and China reportedly backing Hong Kong to become a crypto hub and several crypto exchanges planning to expand to Hong Kong, Bitcoin prices can likely Riley higher. This makes me think I saw a tweet China bans Bitcoin at 60 K, China opens up Bitcoin at 22. I was going to mention the same thing. You know, and it was like, it seems like they're playing like ten D chess at that point. You know what I mean? They're holding the retail from getting in those all time highs and then open it back up to their market in Hong Kong, their financial hub, right, as we're at the buy zone. It's pretty interesting. Yeah, I would say probably a capable leader, you know? I'm not talking about the guys ethics. You know, I wouldn't trust my wallet around, man. I actually I probably would because he's technically maybe one of the richest people in mankind's history. You know, you won't see that and it won't say that, but when you effectively control the whole country, you kind of just are. They seem capable. As a country, they're the countrymen. They seem capable. And so the fact that they're opening up at the lows, they're banning it at the highs. You know, maybe that's a bullish scenario. I read it as a bullish scenario, maybe you don't have to read it as a bull scenario. Drew to you is that a bullish scenario? I mean, I'd see a massive amount of money in Southeast Asia and the mainland of Asia that's been held back and crypto face says without China's money, we don't get a new all time high. Yeah, and when it comes back, it comes back violently. They've been held back from the asset for some time and you have the media narrative that you can't get it and it's just teenager syndrome. They're going to, they're going to get it. They're going to get it when it's time. All right. All right, Bitcoin dominance reaches critical level. So when altcoin season, so when altcoin season, they shouldn't have had the H there, right? Just go full degen. The dominance measures, the market cap of Bitcoin relative to the total market cap of crypto. If the dominance is rising, it means that the Bitcoin share is increasing. If it's falling, the importance of it is decreasing.

"And so being a type a personality is type a personality, he would get a stopwatch and he'd start it and he'd like huff and puff and race as hard as he could all the way down to wherever. And he would time himself. And every day, no matter how hard he did it, 43 minutes. 43 minutes, just wouldn't improve. 43 minutes. And this thing that should have been enjoyable became painful in his mind. He started to avoid it. He'd be like, ah, I have other things to do. No, instead of bike riding, I'll do this other thing. And he realized at one point, this is really pathetic. And this is really bad that something that should be enjoyable. I am avoiding because I've made it so painful. So why don't I just go for a bike ride and enjoy it? So he goes for a bike ride and it's just a leisurely cruise. He's chilling. He's riding around and he's seeing dolphins in the water. He's standing up. He's looking around, noticing things. He hadn't noticed before. At one point, this is Derek. He goes, at one point, I looked up in the sky and there was a pelican. And I said, wow, pelican, and it's shit in my mouth. And I was like, ah, he's like, it was like best bike ride ever. I was like, okay. So he's having a great time. Pelican shit in the mouth and notwithstanding. And he gets back and he looks at his watch, and it was, I think it was 45 minutes. And he's like, wait, what? He's like, so all that huffing and puffing, all that sweating, like leg cramps, and pain was for an extra two minutes off the clock. That's outrageous. So he started applying that to his entire life. He's like, when it starts to get, now look, there are exceptions to all this, right? But he said, when I start to get really stressed out, I just stop. Because I realize 95% is enough for getting almost all of the results that I want and making it sustainable. And this comes back to the creativity, right? It's like if you always try to crank a hundred percent and you're like, I need to get 2000 awesome words out today. That's like trying to hit 43 minutes every time and huffing and puffing. And you're going to start putting things off. I need another cup of coffee. Oh my God, my shoes are so dirty. I need to fix my shoes before I can go out. I let that stand. You'll do anything to put it off because it becomes this intimidating task. So yeah, sort of the 95 versus a 100% is another one. Oh, I've got another one. I have to share. So this is one of my favorites. So Sean white, two things that are very interesting in the Shawn white. Well, there are a lot of things. But these eels, the all time record for metals at the X Games. He has, I think, two gold medals at the Olympics. And two things worth noting for him. And this comes back to the high expectations thing. Okay. So I asked him, what is your self talk when you come out of the gate for a gold medal run at the Olympics? What do you say to yourself? And he thought about it. And the short version is, who cares? True version is who cares? You know, I think this is a really big deal. Snowboarding, going down snow in this contraption. But at the end of the day, you know, I'm going to go home. I'll see my family. Which he borrowed from Agassi. When agassiz had his comeback, that was how he took the pressure off in very, very high pressure situations. To say, who cares? Which is effective when you put in the training. If you put in the training, you don't need to stress in that last minute. The other thing I took away from Sean is when he has a really serious goal. Like a gold medal at Sochi or whatever it might be. He also has a completely absurd goal to offset how stress inducing that can be. So at one point it was, I want to wear American flag pants on the cover of Rolling Stone mag. Like that was the other goal. Has some ludicrous goal to offset the serious. Wow, that's cool. So I've started to try to incorporate that in my life. I would really prefer goal that you have right now. Okay, so this is an exclusive. This is breaking news. Here we go. And we'll see where it goes. I'm a little hesitant to even even share this. But I'll give it a teaser. I'll give it a teaser. Which is sufficient. So goal, you know, I want this book to be everywhere. I want. I mean, I want everyone to read this. Like a friend of mine said, you know, I've bought four hour work week for a few people who really need it for changing chapters in their lives or starting a company, have given for our body to people who want to lose weight. He's like this one, I would give to everybody. So I have very big goals for this. So I have some other plans, which I can't go into huge detail with right now. But to create a fragrance for men. Really? And I mean, fucking look at me. I'm from Long Island. This is like a tuxedo for me. Don't really wear cologne or anything. Occasionally smell like I've been chased by hyenas or something if I'm sweating a lot. But I was like, how funny would it be? If I came out with like a Tim Ferris fragrance, oh my God. Amazing. Hilarious would that be? So what would Tim Ferris smell like? Oh, so that I can't disclose. But I do. Okay, like tequila. I think it'd be like a rough night. Yeah, tequila and pine needles. It's like,.

"Oh. I looked over the list and it's not it's weird because remember ubisoft had the you play points and you could be like, oh, I unlocked a gold skin for a gun because I did this or I spent my points that I earned playing the snowboarding game on cool gun skins and this kind of cross platform achievement system and currency. In these older games, a lot of those options will just disappear and not necessarily be unlockable anymore. Older games had all that stuff unlocked as part of a transition. Back in 2020, when they changed the name of it to ubisoft connect but some games will be impacted by this. These games are like, I didn't even know they had unlockable content and based off of this. Again, some of it is not even like an I can't unlock the Smurfs two stuff. Yeah, it doesn't get specific about what's what, but like splinter cell blacklist on the Wii U won't have anything or. Beyond good and evil. I did not know they had any specific unlockables. She has three and 360. So that's the remade. The reissue. So they must have had you play stuff in there. Because some of that sometimes that you play stuff isn't even in game stuff. It's like, we'll email you three tracks off the soundtrack, or you're gonna get some wallpaper for your fan site or shit like that. Okay. So haze on the PlayStation 3, you know, you fucked. We're fucked. One is seeing on live listed as a platform here. And I didn't know that on live was still a thing. Driver San Francisco on on live, well apparently it's not and also silent hunter 5 on live and splinter cell conviction on online. Did they just mean to write stadia and they fucked up or pretty much the same, right? Yeah, online could just be the catch all for all the problems. I'm also I'm sorry. I know there was a Shaun White snowboarding game. Was there also a shot of light skateboarding game? Yes. What? I'm sure. They were like, what if we made a skateboarding game because those are still people are still making those and we should make one of those and Sean white can ride a skateboard. We're told. So, oh. That's very good. Yeah. So yeah, they did both. The skateboarding game, I remember being not awful, but not in this, not like a good, solid Tony Hawk game or anything. I remember the press he did for the snowboarding game. I do not remember there even being a skateboarding game at all. I guess the skateboarding game came after because they were like, well, we got all the license because and we did the one game that he would be known for. What else? They would really drag.

Packers <Speech_Male> write about one <Speech_Male> thing, you shouldn't <Speech_Male> aim for boring, <Speech_Male> but that's <Speech_Male> different from <Speech_Male> allowing boring <Speech_Male> to happen, and <Speech_Male> for being open <Speech_Male> to the beauty <Speech_Male> that boring <Speech_Male> can bring. <Speech_Male> We can't watch anything <Speech_Male> in real time <Speech_Male> anymore. Wait <Speech_Male> 20 seconds <Speech_Male> for, say, <Speech_Male> the best animated <Speech_Male> short winner to <Speech_Male> make it from the back <Speech_Male> of the theater <Speech_Male> to the stage, <Speech_Male> who has that kind <Speech_Male> of time to spend. <Speech_Male> Never mind <Speech_Male> that short films <Speech_Male> rarely get <Speech_Male> the love they deserve, <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> for the few minutes <Speech_Male> they last are <Speech_Male> often surprisingly <Speech_Male> costly to make. <Speech_Male> There's also <Speech_Male> the fact that the people <Speech_Male> who win these <Speech_Male> alleged lesser <Speech_Male> awards <Speech_Male> are often more genuinely <Speech_Male> thrilled <Speech_Male> than the big time <Speech_Male> actors to rectors <Speech_Male> or producers <Speech_Male> who trundle <Speech_Male> up to the stage <Speech_Male> with their cans, <Speech_Male> speeches.

"Like, what do you mean? It's like not everybody has the air awareness of Sean white. Like, what are we supposed to do here? Yeah. I feel like that's a huge thing too. Like, oh, if you don't have this year's outerwear or if you don't have next year skis or this and that and it's like, who cares? Who cares? Yeah. I don't know. The industry made us think we needed to care, but really we don't. So I used to fall into that. This year, I was like, I need this jacket, but I got a new one last year. Like, why am I still in this mindset? Oh God, yeah, that was me too. And then there was inventory problems. And I was like, you know what? I actually have, I don't need a kid. I really don't. And it's just accepting that. And I was like, I am so privileged to be able to just get a kit like that. In the first place. So, yeah. You know what? Trying taught being cool as out being like carrying and compassionate and I don't know, observant is the new cool kid vibe. But I'm also just like not going to try anymore. I'm a nerd. I'm a dork. It's fine. Oh yeah. But I think that's, I think that's what it's all about though. I think also it's like part of getting more, I guess, mature. I remember when I was like a kid and I would see my mom do things and I was like, mom, why are you doing that in public? Why don't you care about saying this or doing this? And she's like, as you get older, you just don't care as much. And I've definitely noticed that. I think it just as I've gotten older, I just don't care anymore. And I realized the people I look up to are in the same mindsets too. I'm like, oh, what do I really admire about that person?.

metals but this is his first gold It also hit into drought by Team USA to first goal by an American man in the singles competition since 2010 and then he mentioned Chloe Kim she picked right back up women's half pipe history And the U.S. vents curling team also in action but we're not just watching the sport We're watching Matt Hamilton's feet Yeah so Matt Hamilton he's a little bit of what they call a sneaker head and so he's been turning heads with his choice of sneakers during these Beijing games He's got on a pair of their Nike dunks which you know it's a classic shoot Dates back to the 80s but this one kind of has a crazy riff They're called the what the calls and essentially it's a mashup of a number of different sneakers by Nike skateboarder Paul Rodriguez and they look kind of crazy They've got all the colors on them All the colors And so certainly it's gotten a lot of attention along with his mustache as he's been competing these winter games And any update on the Russian figure skater the 15 year old who's in the middle of that scandal that we talked about yesterday You know ELISA so that's been the one thing that's been frustrating because we haven't really gotten the answers The IOC the international skating union at both been kind of mom about this investigation or was it even conducting this investigation but what we do know NBC who's broadcasting the games when it's getting lower oxygen but the conservatives that for athletes experts say it means that they can perform at a higher heart rate for a longer period of time And you remember valia turned hedge She was a darling here at the Olympics because she was the first to land a quadruple jump And so right now we still have a lot of unknown questions primarily What will this do to the Russia's gold medal in this overall team events And then ballet ever sent to compete next week in the individual competition Is she still eligible ABC's Alex crochet Thank you Alex Thank you 6 20 now and an update masters and business on Bloomberg radio My extra special guest this week is rip out to Patterson She is the director of investment research at Bridgewater associates the world's largest hedge fund previously she was chief investment officer at bessemer trust where she oversaw more than $85 billion in client assets So listening to you discuss inflation I think you approached it in a way very different from what I've been hearing other people talk about You said quote demand shock is what's driving inflation Explain demand shock Sure So when we look at where we are today with inflation in the United States it's very easy to quickly go back to the late 1960s early 1970s and say okay high and rising inflation high gas prices that said that's behind the curve yeah okay There are similarities that are worth noting but back then what was driving the high inflation were supply shortages That was the key ingredient Today obviously there's things on both side of the demand supply equation But the bigger deal is the surge in demand which is just overwhelming the supplies So let me give you a number here to make this feel more real If you look at the supply of goods for U.S. consumers it comes from around the world So produced everywhere in the U.S. and China outside et cetera It's running about 5% above where it was before the pandemic So the supply of goods has increased on that But then look at the demand side the demand from U.S. consumers today is about 20% higher than the end of 2019 And you see similar patterns across a lot of things whether we're talking about investor or metals where supplies today are high but the demand is much higher that's pushing that inventory ships We have more ships on the ocean today than we did pre-pandemic but it's just not enough Labor markets we've got no shortage of jobs today We just have such high demand for jobs And so yes there are supply constraints here and there I'm not saying there aren't I'm just saying the bigger deal this time and what makes this so different from the 1970s is this absolute boom in demand So let's stick with demand and another comment of yours was witnessing the biggest monetary stimulus outside of wartime referring to the various cares act The fiscal stimulus is that the key driver of all this demand Yeah Well it's the one two punch of monetary in fiscal So Barry when you and I were mirror children it was all about interest rates right The fed was using short term rates to affect economic conditions We'll call that monetary policy one And then in 2008 rates hit zero the fed needs to ease more So then it starts launching more quantitative easing So we call that balance sheet usage plus interest rates MP two When we got to the pandemic okay the fed went big and it went fast We cut rates We did huge amounts of quantitative easing but it wasn't enough to fill the hole in the incomes of the pandemic when we shut down the economy And so fiscal had to play a bigger role fiscal became the dominant policy lever driving growth and the fed facilitated it Obviously the feds go independent but the fed by keeping yields low by buying the bonds was allowing the.

listening to Bloomberg intelligence with Alex Steele and Paul Sweeney on Bloomberg radio We're here each and every week at this time Tapping into our Bloomberg intelligence analysts covering some 2000 companies and 130 industry worldwide On Paul swinney Alex steals out today she'll be back next week All right well in case you haven't heard there is an energy crisis in your particularly with natural guess How are investors playing this to find out Let's bring in Bloomberg intelligence senior energy analyst will hares Well let's step back maybe 30,000 feet and just give us a sense of the not guess situation across Europe and the UK What's happened How do we get here Yeah so as you mentioned Paul Europe has admitted a acute and worsening energy crisis which has been particularly evident in natural gas There's several factors at play here but some of the key ones have been very low storage coming into heating season We're also seeing geopolitical risks So this is coming through with suppressed Russian pipeline supply And we've also seen other elements like nuclear capacity retirements unplanned outages So there's been pressures from multiple of sources and this is really resulting in record low European gas storage And this has pushed European natural gas benchmarks to record levels and just so the American listeners are aware Current natural gas pricing in Europe is roughly 6 to 7 times as expensive as the American benchmarks And here's my naive question of the day which Alex would be very upset if she heard because she is an energy geek which is it's so cheap over here Why don't we just send it to you guys Is there economically it's just not feasible So in short your answer is that it is happening but as gas is a highly regionalized commodity the only way to ship gas from the U.S. to Europe is to LNG and this is happening Europe is buying a lot more LNG cargoes than it has been previously And this is starting to ease the crisis But the way this is really coming through is it pipes natural gas supply So the vast majority of natural gas supply in Europe is meant to Russia and Norway which equates to about two thirds of it And we are seeing suppressed Russian supply as a result of some mounting geopolitical risk And this is the main driver between much lower natural gas storage levels at much higher prices How are investors trying.

"U.S. Olympian Sean white will be hanging up his snowboard for good The three time gold medalist made it clear that not only will the Beijing games be his last Olympics they'll mark his final contests as well The 35 year old spoke during a reflective and sometimes emotional news conference today U.S. troops of now arrived in Poland in the face of Russian aggression while the U.S. and its NATO allies have no intention of deploying any troops to Ukraine they have begun to reinforce the defenses of nearby NATO countries We're also learning more about the possible cost of a conflict in Ukraine American officials are estimating that if Russia does invade it could mean up to a 100,000 civilian casualties and up to 5 million refugees However so far both Russia and the U.S. are saying they're still willing to pursue diplomacy CBS News correspondent Christina rafini Meanwhile U.S. intelligence says Russia may be planning to make a fake video of an attack by Ukrainian forces and use that as an excuse to attack the country Russia actually practiced this fake video tactic on the U.S. years ago It was the 13th anniversary of the 9 11 attacks At about 8 a.m. Homeland Security and saint Mary Paris Louisiana was inundated Two or three calls It was like back to back to back And then three or four more calls back to back to back They were just like coming in This is faster than we're getting them Homeland Security director Duval Arthur said people were getting alerts warning them about an explosion People wanted to know if we were going to open up a shelter in where they should go It was part of an elaborate video hoax from Russian trolls that showed a chemical plant burning a fake CNN story.

"The village that I didn't really expect. But it was cool. I mean, I got to go to like, what are the other thing that sucked? Was I wanted to go see Sean white and, you know, and all like the other sports and all that, but in Korea, it was like, they were like two hours away from us. So pretty much if I wanted to watch any other events, it was just the stuff that was like on ice pretty much. So I went to like a curling hatch. That was fun. A carer is named it. I think that they might have wanted that year, but there was the one guy that was just out with a huge fan of the curler and then I remember they won their medal and then I was just I went down to eat and he was just all at the McDonald's and just enjoying, I don't know, those guys were awesome. And then I saw the short track speed skating was one of the most electric events I've ever been to in my life because they're like the long track was slow because it's like a marathon pretty much. And then the short track came on and I was just blown away by it because they're going so fast they're passing the baton and just kind of going to those events was kind of my favorite part, honestly, because I didn't go on that great for us on here. I know you mentioned McDonald's twice already, but did you develop a taste for the Korean barbecue over there? They got some great food there, don't they? They do. We didn't really have it like the cafeteria was pretty standard, but my parents were there. I went to one of the barbecue places. One of the days with them. I was surprised. I mean, the food was good there. It was super, I think the best way to say it is like clean. It was just like super clean there and the food was good. I had a great time. Be honest. When's the last time you fight up the YouTube clips from the world juniors? Like, before this interview? No, I mean, it's been a while. It is something that I'll see people tweet at me or like it'll show up and it's something that I'll watch and it just it still gives me goosebumps. I mean, it was that type of moment for me that I just didn't expect and it was.

"I can not believe you so accident prone, Nina. I mean, you are taking a big risk dating one of the most adventurous men in the world, Sean white. I mean, do you have to pretend like you know how to snowboard? Or did you already know going in? I actually have been snowboarding since I was really little. I skied first and then I switched over to snowboarding at probably 8 or 9. So I think he was more surprised when we went for the first time. He was expecting me. He was expecting to wait for me. And it was quite the opposite. I had already passed him by landslide. And so yeah, now I can keep up. Oh my God, are you freaking out about the Winter Olympics? 'cause if my man was in the Winter Olympics, honey, I would be in Beijing in two seconds, okay? I'd be like, Jay-Z to Beyoncé, just right by his side. Yeah, no, I'm really excited for him. Just to get into the Olympics at all, is one of the hugest accomplishments, let alone to get him 5 times. And I'm so excited. I'm so proud of him. I love that. Now Jules, I know you and I just met, but I feel like we're Friends, so I can call you Jules. This energy healing that you tried in Switzerland. You know, I, everybody was freaking out. Went viral. Things got crazy. I have to know, are you still doing this? And do we all need to try it? Yeah, I was actually just in Napa. This last weekend with John, amaral, his wife, Christina, and on another retreat. So it's interesting because, look, when you see something like this, it's hard to understand, but it is, you know, I think we're living in a day in an age right now where this isn't as woohoo as you think it is. It just is definitely weird to look at. Oh, 100%, you know, I think you have to try everything at least once. I always say that in life and you never know what's oh, I say you have to try anything at least three times. 100%. When it comes to dating, I'm like, we have to try this three times before we say no to it. Okay. But if you have to try anything this week, get fresh vine wine. The rose and the Chardonnay, it's a little smoky. I love the smoky shard days. If you like a smoky chart, it is amazing. Julian and Nina, thank you guys so much for joining us.
