"Speech. I only have thirty seven seconds. I wrote this forty three years ago. Okay. Can I just say skip Britain ham said to me a long time ago? If you stay at the table long enough, the chips come to you and tonight, I got to clear the table. If you get a chance to work with Bill Hader or Alec Berg, run don't walk. Thank you for producing us for creating us for directing us, and for a Bill for acting with us, and all of our wonderful writers, Sherry Thompson and a wonderful. Sharon, Sherry, Goldberg extraordinary publicist cliff and Aaron and Chris who represent me almost for the first time, I feel represented. I can't stop yet. My wife Stacey. Oh my God. By casting grew and the kids kids jed Zoe and max you can go to bed now. Daddy one. Okay. That's the guy. He's been in business for I love that. He wrote I wrote this. I mean forty three years ago that was perfect. Yeah. And telling his kids to go to bed those chill. There are adults. So why did he win for berry because he's fantastic on Barry? So very if you haven't seen it. It's sort of an assassin dark comedy Bill Hader plays a hitman, and he finds himself in an acting class taught by Henry winklers character. And it's a character who could be so pitiful. And so and somebody that you just sort of don't take seriously, and and sort of look askance at and instead, it's like he's very dignified, very intense and thoughtful, and and you take him seriously. And and so you understand why Bill Hader takes them seriously white takes himself seriously. And it just the whole show really hinges on like does this world makes sense with this. Character does does have me Winkler's character sort of provide enough integrity and dignity and stamina for what Bill haters ultimately attracted to and the answer is absolutely. Yes. So I I was elated. I think he's also to his skill as an actor. I mean, we we believed him as the fonz which we did. I mean, here's a guy. The voters cycle jacket who walks into a room. Hey. Yeah. That's real. And also Zack. He's also known as one of the nicest people in the business, and he plays really against type in the show. Hey met so Bill hater won best actor which seemed to surprise everybody. Why are you quoting him? So why do you think Barry swept this new coming show? Well, you know, I I guess to put an encounter put a slightly wider frame around at one of the one of the things that intrigued me about this. This broadcast was the the the split between network cable and now streaming and it used to be when I started on this beat twenty years ago. The big question was how did cable compared to traditional broadcast networks? And now the attention is split three ways. And you know, I think the three big winners were net. Flicks. HBO NBC in that order. I think I'm getting that right and HBO really held up their end with game of thrones berry and Westworld. And I think that was mainly what it was about is like, I think the name HBO is still such a seal of quality that a lot of Oaters will will throw down for it, regardless of, you know, I don't want to say regardless of whether it's good or not because these are good shows. But like definitely the name means something. Well, there's a bigger picture question. Is it even fair at this point for broadcast television to compete against the streaming services? An HBO when they have such y creative license the shows can be as long as they want. They can explore themes. You can't rispler on broadcast television. I mean, it's almost like saying somebody. Okay, you get to go to the tiny grocery store and get an onion and some pasta. But you. Over here. Got to go to sit rela and. Farmers market. Everyone is the same quality of cook. Right. And the truth is they're not. So if the if streaming was that an unfair advantage than every single show on streaming would be great. But if you're Sean streaming is not great and every single showing broadcast bad. But everything was on broadcast is not bad. You know, there's a reason that SNL is still competitive, right? And I think while John Oliver has an excellent show. I don't think HBO being at HBO puts them at a particular advantage over for example. Stephen Colbert shows are very different. But I don't think that's a matter of HBO versus CBS. Right. So there are terrific shows on streaming platforms. But there's plenty of not good shows out there to I think the idea that just the money is a big factor. I think that's probably accurate. I think that the creative freedom especially for people like shonda rhimes Ryan Murphy who an EMMY for X last night. But now has a big deal at net flicks where he'll be sort of doing his next chapter of work. Yeah. I think there is something of like a potential brain-drain. But I don't think we're at any kind of crisis point. You know, I think there. Are still excellent show is being produced at a network level to you know. I mean, I don't think they had the nominations that they deserve last night. But yeah, Ted Danson was nominated. That keeps the competition quite healthy. Can I just add one thing parenthetically that that argument that you know, the networks? Are in an unfair advantage compared to cable, and streaming like that was an argument that was advanced very prominently by a lot of network people, you know, twenty years ago at I remember it from the television critics association press who are which they have twice a year out out on the west coast, and the number one person complaining about that was les Moonves who I don't know if he's quite at voldemort stale. He was number one person was the number one person complaining about that that, you know, this was the time when shows like the sopranos sex in the city were were were coming up and taking away some of their EMMY magic, let's talk about the new show that swept the marvelous MRs Mazel won for best comedy Alex Bernstein won for best supporting actress as did a Rachel Brosnahan. And she won for best actress, and she was one of the few people who got political in the evening in her speech. Let's take a listen. And one of the things I love the most about this show. I have you captive for another two seconds. Is it it's about a woman who's finding her voice in new, and it's something that's happening all over the country right now, one of the most important ways that we can find and use our voices is to vote. So.

"Exclusively that's really difficult the fact that it's free as that helps a lot but ultimately i think you're right in that the w the future of sort of bella tore and maybe 'em as a whole is getting on these subscription services where ratings maybe don't matter as much as just the ability to get this guaranteed money prevent and then reinvest that i think bell tour obviously any promotion can always use more promotion right more more but i think bill tour is are your pretty stabbed promotion they're not pf l that needs to get out there and let people know that they're here built or we know it exists i think the ratings have mostly been around surrounded around quality you know there's so many fights going on so many events that are really tuning into this bill to card because of the quality so i think this is this is a great move because you're guaranteeing good quality and as long as you can put good quality i think fans will tune in an interesting signing they announce us we was not really of course the fights themselves but loaded machida out of nowhere nowhere i i'm not sure anyone saw that coming and again he didn't leave on acrimonious terms with the ufc in fact he said that they may have made some overtures to to keep him but in the end he had to keep his word as he put it now bornet has not signed with the ufc butts coke or told you i saw the interview that they're already in talks with his manager and i know that skucool guide and everyone's work josh born in the past and likes to make deals allow guys like barnett who have a lot of different towns interests to go do those things it also harkens back to the money from sean streaming deal right if you go back and look at what scott coker said the money from the streaming deal is going to enable them to get the signings that they need by the way to put on great shows on on but pay per view as well and paramount as well right that's what that's about it's about we're going to.
