"I want to have those conversations with the coat so that we're definitely on the same page that I am adhering to and following the mandates of the coat, and that's where I think you're gonna get what coach through. You're going to get a lot of that. Also in the headlines. The Panthers get Teddy Bridgewater in and sign him to a three year contract is OK in the NFC South teams like the Panthers Atlanta Tampa Bay twice a year have to deal with that combination of Sean Payton and a quarterback that he's in perfect sync with Andrew Breeze. Do you think that the Bridgewater Joe Brady the Bridgewater Brady Matt Rhule combination could give some teams a handful? I think you know, given time. I mean, we have to be realistic about the fact There's been no offseason, OT H have been all virtual is it has been for all the teams. But again, I get back that thought of it that synergy of they want to run a state's kind of offense. Some of what they did in El issue with Joe Brady there, and then they'll add the wrinkles of things that also happened at Baylor and Temple philosophically to what they're doing here and Teddy Bridgewater. You've got Eugene and accurate quarterback 68% in those five games within five over the Saint's last year, nine touchdowns, only two interceptions. So I think, Eugene I know we got a break in a minute, but quickly, I think, you know Teddy kind of fits in with what they're trying to do in terms of a fit for the offense. I think they felt like this is somebody who's been in New Orleans. He gets it already. They've said in the zoo meetings. Sometimes he takes over the offensive meetings and quarterback meetings because he already knows so much about the offense having run it before and don't forget. A Q B rating last year was 74.7, only 17 test down 21. Interceptions, 58 sacks, someone you you bring the resume of a Teddy Bridgewater into the Carolina Panthers. You already see that It's upgrade. You ready to see what he's able to do? It's an upgrade and you cup couple that with the fact that he's already familiar is somewhat with a Brady. It's an upgrade, so I think you're absolutely right. So I think that you'd bring in Teddy Bridgewater. Is a upgrade at the at the quarterback position based on the performance of the quarterbacks last year. It wasn't good enough. And don't forget 62% almost ludicrously completion. He's at 68. There was a moment in a post game press conference last year when Bridgewater was filling in for Bree's Sean Payton was asked about Teddy Bridgewater. The word economy hit you, but it was impactful, he said. Teddy Bridgewater, I'll tell you about Teddy Bridgewater. Smart, accurate can make the first rusher miss a leader. I'll stop there coming from where that came from Mainz.

New Orleans Saints agree to terms with QB Winston on one-year contract

"Yahoo Sports is Charles. Charles Robinson reports at Norrland's is finalizing a one year deal with Winston. The former buck coming off a five thousand one hundred nine yards season thirty plus touchdowns three interceptions and immediately eyebrows. Raised the idea that Winston would stay in the division. Go to the Saints. Backup drew brees. He enters the mix with Tatum Hill. Who IS SUPPOSED TO BE? And maybe still is the heir apparent To breeze so it just leads to a lot of unsolved mysteries in its own right greg your thoughts when you heard the news that Winston may be and quite possibly is headed to the saints I I wasn't shocked because I I what I did. This hashtag setup into your own comet with a big way. Why why you made your Greg sounding you often. I got it. I wasn't gonNA say anything but then mark reacted to it and I can't help myself but go ahead. I did this Saints Twitter Pot. Podcast just knew that way wolf as podcasts. Him into my buddy Adam and they were saying they were hearing. This was going to happen before the draft so they got sources on the inside and and they ended up being proven right and it makes all the sense in the world of your Jameis Winston and makes sense of. You're the saints too. I think you get a chance to get Jameis. Winston in the building for a year probably drew brees his last year. We haven't heard any financial terms the Jameis Winston deal you know was reported on before the Taste Hill extension Came out and the money that was involved. That extension came out. Part of me does wonder. Is this deal for absolute sure does did Winston know about that before he he came determines but either way he? He should do the deal. Because if he can somehow impress Sean Payton or if he can end up getting in the lineup and being as backup like Teddy Bridgewater What better place to possibly learn because damis Winstons still has a lot to learn but he also has a lot of talent a guy that throws for five thousand yards can do things in the NFL and like there's no better place to learn. Other than to undo. Breezy and Sean Payton.

Sean Payton informs New Orleans Saints no offseason program this spring

"Sean Payton told players Wednesday will they will not have any type of offseason program this spring virtual or otherwise is the quote from Peyton. Take care of your families your health and be ready this summer completely wipes it out. He had A. He had a tweet with A. I believe it's a game of thrones ref of kind of mocking the setup of whether virtual meetings are like with all the players and coaching staff. I wonder if this GONNA be pains and influential Guy A domino or a lot of teams are like the stupid. Like I know what we're trying to do here and stay in touch with the players and start installing layer of what the twenty twenty game plan is but maybe we're better off just clearing the decks and waiting for everything to settle. I would add that there that does need to go through some channels in terms of the the league in the NFL. Pa and how they want that stuff to be handled on that came from our newsroom on some level. But secondly that. That's that's maybe more of a luxury for a team like the Saints. Where the coach? The quarterback in many of the players are embedded in know each other. Well that's not a luxury. A first year coach Matt Rules Approach things that way I can guarantee you wondered what rule does rule or any of these first year. Coach is really think a lot's going to be accomplished in this. I guess dating with players you've never met. I would think it would. You'd want to establish some I D of WHO? You are as a coach with as many players as you could. That would be my approach if I were first year coach. I was stunned to see this. Because you just don't see. Nfl coaches give up control like that that they're saying okay we could be. We could have you two hours a day for a month and a half. But we're going to say no we we're going to trust you to show up to camp and you just don't see them giving up control and this is a different time. Obviously I think New Orleans is one the hardest hit cities too. I think maybe that's a factor because a lot of the players live around there Sean. Payton had corona virus. Or maybe it's hitting him a little. There's a lot going on and to your point markets a veteran team. So it's not the same but I I can't remember coaches doing anything like this. I I'd be. I'd be Kinda surprising. Other teams took the approach. I mean he's not doing this if he thought it would hurt the team. You must not think they're you know something. Here's the next move though you do that. You say that. Then you create a trend around the league or other saying you know what the Saints Are. Smart. We're going to do the same thing. Then the saints secretly are meeting for two hours a day and they are getting that little bit of same said. That's good that's like two point three mark little a new pink pony operation. Perhaps in a way maybe

"Newton strategy during free agency and Sean Payton seemingly announcing this will be a victory lap final victory lap for drew brees as a quarterback in the. Nfl We'll talk about that but we're going to be again today. I'M GONNA try to unpack a documentary series that aired last night on HBO About Corruption Associated With NCWA mandated. Amateurism and Dan Wetzel from Yahoo Sports. Dan Wetzel the best sports writer working. Today he's going to join us in the next segment as we try to break this down further in the show but I want to begin by unpacking the story. Marcellus because again. I don't think a lot of people got a chance to see the documentary last night but it is a very powerful documentary. It is a very interesting documentary. I think it says a lot about the NCWA and issue that I'm passionate about NC double A. Amateurism and so. Let me take a few minutes to unpack. What happened last night? Put it in some context and then Marcellus and I will have a great conversation with Dan Wetzel about it. It was a two hour documentary that aired on Hbo last night and is streaming now on HBO. Go it's called the scheme. It focuses in on these so-called Adidas Investigation and trials that took place in two thousand seventeen eighteen and nineteen that allegedly was born to up in all of college. Basketball College. Basketball was supposed to be shaken by. Its core by this investigation. If you remember state prosecutors in New York charged tim men including a handful of high ranking college basketball assistant coaches with defrauding universities by accepting bribes to steer players to the sports agency Lloyd Management. If you've been watching this show I was a critic of this pro. I didn't like it in real time because I thought it targeted the absolute wrong people. I thought that it was making criminals of people who allegedly were giving casts players and families and who allegedly were doing something so unethical worthy of making them a felon. I didn't like it in real time. And was a critic of the probe in two thousand seventeen eighteen and nineteen when convictions came in the government's case was built on a sting operation the FBI executed on a twenty something up and coming agent by the name of Christian. Doctrines dolphins have built relationships with a wide range of college coaches including most prominently Arizona. Shawn Miller Movables Rick Pitino. Lsu's will way. They took the brunt of the criticism and were thrown in the headlines during this investigation the FBI pro was supposed to change the face of college basketball. What DID WOUND UP? Doing is turning a handful of mostly black assistant basketball coaches in the felons and ruining their lives. I want you guys to look at these pictures. Collage. We're showing you right now. That's who got convicted of felonies for allegedly accepting bribes during this college basketball thing and and again I want you to not just on the black assistance and that is what bothered me and triggered me but also there's a white guy photo showing these photos named Jim Gadoe. He worked for Adidas. I said in real time when this was going on Jim gadoe was thrown in and targeted to cover up the fact that they were actually targeting a bunch of black assistant coaches and they didn't WanNa look racist too late through Jim Galloway and from Adidas and Put a felony on him. This whole thing was preposterous from the very beginning. The scheme documentary intentionally exposes the fraudulent of the government's case and NCW amateurism and unintentionally exposed the Naievty and stupidity of Christian doctrines. This game is told from dolphins. Point of view. Dog Is Momma his daddy his lawyer. Steve Haynie and y'all Dan Wetzel. The scheme should be called in my view. A. G. E. AIDS ambition greed and ego those three qualities ambition greed in Eagle in my view. Explain Christian Dawkins. The dock ended with Kristin Dawkins mom reading a letter. Her son wrote as a teenager comparing himself to God. Martin Luther King Junior Steve Jobs Jay Z and a bunch. Other people take a listen for yourself and start off. I'm great. I have a special gift from God. He's so crazy. I know this to be factual information. It is rare for someone to be as as me at my age. I have a gift that truly great ones have. I am in a class of people like Gandhi Barack Obama Jazzy Martin. Luther King Tiger Woods Dick Clark. Michael Jackson Steve Jobs Bill Gates etc revolutionary people in their fields. I'm GonNa Chase my dreams. Twenty four seven every day throughout the documentary dolphins kept referring to others as idiots but it was dolphins whose first attempt to become an agent end with him getting in trouble for misusing players credit card for fifty thousand dollars worth of override. That was on dog. His next attempt to become an agent ended with the Adidas Trial. Trying to start sports a Sports Agency. Kristin Dawkins ran afoul of the law twice before the age of twenty five as quite impressive especially when you consider the Adidas trial and the FBI investigation were set off with another man. Mardi bells earlier was looking for a useful eighty to get him out of trouble for stealing a bunch of money. A bunch of money from a bunch of innocent victims blazer identified Dawkins as the useful. Adp WHO can set him free. The steam explains the documentary. Explains the Blazer not the FBI or the state? Prosecutors in New York Blazer came up with a scheme to lure Dawkins into bribing college basketball coaches and calling it a crime being Dita's trial and the FBI program driven were driven by a common criminal looking to game to get away with his latest crime by a government not by government not by state prosecutors trying to do the right thing. A common criminal set all this into motion. No-one dislikes the NCW. Amateurism fraught. More than I do. But to me Kristin Dawkins was given a record company deal and this one sided documentary this supposed to enhance his them as a payoff for refusing to take a plea agreement and refuses big-name College coaches. Hbo's skiing was not unlike or was a lot like the tiger king the net flicks documentary this popular right now. You couldn't find any good people on Camera. You could no one involved in this documentary set themselves up as a good person or a hero. Ncwa amateurism creates frauds inlets and caters to people driven by ambition greed and ego. I I've set the table..

Could Brandin Cooks be traded for fourth time in six-year career?

"Brandon cooks had a tweet that just said Freeman yes that was on Friday and when you read that there's two things that come to mind one is okay he's talking about the corona virus in Africa wants to just go back to living their normal life and not trapped inside their house order the sportsman and I says free may he's upset with the Los Angeles rams and he wants a trade out of LA you look at the contract the branding cooks he's under contract through the twenty twenty three season has a cap hit of sixteen sixteen seventeen and seventeen million dollars across the board the dead cap this year for Brandin cooks is twenty nine point eight million and then following that in the next three years thirteen eighteen and three million of the number is an approximation he's still twenty six years old and at one time was viewed as a very promising up and coming wide receiver and I still think you can have a good career you know you look at what he was able to do from early on in his saints career shoot the twenty eighteen season with the rams you go through the stats twenty fourteen fifty three receptions five hundred and fifty yards three touchdowns twenty fifteen eighty four receptions over eleven hundred yards nine touchdowns that had that monster monster twenty sixteen where he catches almost eighty football's goes for one thousand one hundred seventy three yards and then a touch it's really had to back to back killer seasons with eighty four you know the two months years in twenty fifteen twenty sixteen and twenty seventeen he gets dealt the patriots and he goes sixty five receptions just over a thousand yards seven touchdowns how to touch down early on against the Texans was a big moment he had I'm in the playoffs he got knocked out in the Superbowl Malcolm Jenkins sent the matter game and the patriots after one year that one can get a contract extension so they traded to the rams and they ended up getting a first round pick back again for something to get a first round pick back for him so he goes to the rams twenty eighteen eighty receptions twelve hundred yards five touchdowns good year and last year only forty two receptions five hundred eighty three yards and two touchdowns so this is that was an off year for Brandin cooks now he only played in fourteen games but you know still it was an off year so you start to wonder is Brandon cooks going to get traded because of just the situation the ram Charan it is got rid of Todd Gurley defensively they say they're already locked up Barron Donald you're gonna have to sign Jaylen Ramsey to a long term extension you would think you also have money tied up in a lot of money tied up clearly to Jared Goff I don't think it's a great quarterback but he's getting paid as if he's a great quarterback and you saw that offense who this past year yes the the rams were a different team but you look at their wide receiving options do you really need Brandin cooks that office when you have Cooper Kupp having a very good season last year catching almost a hundred footballs and going over eleven hundred yards yeah Robert woods last year not the thousand you know thousand yard season caught ninety footballs so can you survive without Brandin cooks and get something back to help your football team what what's first do this what you will get the contracts Robert woods and Cooper Kupp Robert woods is a free agent at the end of the twenty twenty one season so for the next two years you're a robber was that a good number base salary this upcoming year it's five million in twenty twenty one at seven point five million capita they point one and a cap of nine point one so that's a good number and then when you get to Cooper Kupp can you take a look at his contract situation with the with the rams that's a contract situation where Cooper Kupp let's see where his deal is that he's a free agent at the end of the season so he is on a two million dollars and change contract so if you are the branches anything you have Robert woods who's twenty seven right now maybe he gets it probably does get another contract with that team and then you have Cooper Kupp who's twenty six read the codes are still very young yeah he's twenty six as well what do you do if you're gonna pay if you intend to pay Cup and also woods are you gonna put a lot of big money with three wide receivers so I think there's a good chance the Brandin cooks does get traded or the ram say you know what we believe are more like the football team two years ago not the team last year so we're gonna keep what we have and we're going to run it back brandy cooks for someone who's so talented and someone that has done a very nice job in his career so far what we've seen him go from playing with drew Brees and Sean Payton then go flying with Brady and Bella Jack and now playing with golf and the bay well those are not the key pad stops you get to all BAME coaches and to all fame quarterbacks golf one of seeing what he's going to be able to do in Sean McVay's is greatly respected around the league so the branding cooks tweet Hey C. Cooper cops jump on it and and clarify he's talking about the quarantine hi it's it's just amazing and it never surprised anymore on social media where if that were his intentions you never know but if those are his intentions how people now I think he could be traded but when you think about it with what they may need to do in the future or Cooper Kupp and Robert woods at the Brandon cooks experiment in the in the rams you know you could say could be short lived with your canoeing on that was really short lived he could be on the move once

"Has a lot to play with they can delay free agency Sean Payton head coach of the saints thanks free agency will be delayed they couldn't trust her schedule anyway they want to as I mentioned last hour they could do that draft in June NFL pro days have been canceled because of the corona virus outbreak coming these are just the real headlines in sports the only active sports the only non today I think some horse racing was run without the fans hello there a B. believe by submission as I look at CBSSports dot com UFC did it without fans she was in Monterey soccer you can watch live at CBSSports dot com and get live updates on the headlines in between all the other headlines outside of Patino when is Horowitz said I agree what a great news dump to announce Patino bag in the college coaching ranks at Iona because a corona virus yeah when does the corona virus sports impact headline stop I don't think they will until the sports return I don't because we'll go through this new cycle of what could have been in selection Sunday was supposed to happen later tonight on the east coast about three hours away on the west coast in terms of becoming Sunday not happening CBS sportsline did do a bracket ceded the teams are based on projections probably Jerry palm help them out bacteriologist at CBSSports dot com ran it ten thousand times on a computer simulator and Dayton date the one that mythical computer national championship on the CBS sports line bracket Tate was your winner pretty good basketball team and I like the story that came out on Friday that the NC double a is thinking about releasing the bracket not not having the tournament but released the brackets so these teams like Dayton possibly Rutgers you know a crate that was projected to be a to see that they can celebrate a great year they can have a copy of that bracket for their media relations people media guide they can put that in their historical references because this spring M. S. last five days historic frightening unprecedented impactful I love the idea of release in the bracket I really do because you know that would give us if they did it Sunday night my thought was when I heard the stories that they should have done you know maybe they not CBS the network but they gonna use CBS sports network the television side and they would have done an hour and they would discuss what the bracket would have been like and we all want to tune in and it would have been a nice break from everything connected to the coronavirus in sports that needs to be discussed please to be talked about needs to be in the updates with Jon Faddis but just release it and let us talk about it on Monday like we normally do on the Monday after selection Sunday at all this team got rob look at the easy path Duke has a all the usual conversation because everything has been so unusual I love the bracket release idea I really do I hope they do it but I don't trust the NC double a all the time to make the right call I just don't I'm pessimistic for a reason because when I look at Rick Pitino coming back to college coaching and I look at the history from the F. B. I. wire taps and Arizona Kansas L. as you go about their business in college hoops I look at Jim Tressel became president of Youngstown state university with Ohio state I had sanctions and I think Trussell had a show called his penalty you could come back to coach buddy give me president of university I I'm not surprised Patino is back in the U. L. B. at Iona for a year or two that's a buffer school he's not going to finish his career at Ionia ahri owner he'll finish at a Big Boy basketball school now I mentioned that CBS sports bracket where they had Dayton Duke Zager in Florida state in the final four in Atlanta good Soghan date during the championship game that was interesting who's in the final eight cancers due date Michigan state Baylor Florida state in San Diego state Gonzaga Sweet Sixteen Gonzaga Oregon BYU San Diego state Baylor Ohio state Maryland Florida state Michigan state Villanova Louisville Dayton Creighton Duke Kentucky and Kansas see the reason you wanna release bracket this was an abnormal year in college basketball we're schools that were known as mid majors could have done some damage in were highly ranked most of the year like Dayton like San Diego state not unlike BYU those going to be one of my sleeper teams they should be honored they should be recognized why not the greatness the Dayton's mid majors have been one of the great storylines in NC double a tournament history how many people agree that the bracket should be seasonal selection committee has all the seasons and summer say well you don't play the tournaments no you just would go back to the end.

"All right. Welcome back to the rich. Joe normally when he comes on the show, I text them, or we just, you know, we're we're going back and forth. You wanna come on come on? Just the other day, we post show meeting, and like, hey, do you want Sean Payton on the show, like shore course, since he's here on behalf zebra technologies? The official on field player tracking provider out the National Football League and the engine that powers the next gen stats project that coach in the New Orleans Saints, Sean Payton, how you Sean. I'm doing well, rich. I didn't know if it was mayor. But dialed me but good to be on. No. It was me. It was me. Definitely me. How you doing? What? What's what what is lifelike that post draft? I figured let's let's let's go underneath the Sean Payton out here. What's going on with your right now? Yeah. So we pushed our off season program back by week. It we've done that before when we're going into the playoffs or go deep in the class. So our players are in the building now and just lifting and run it. You know, we don't. We don't spend a lot of time in meetings or whatnot. You know, they're coming to the facility really getting their bodies in shape. You know, most of them a lot of them, you know, been training already and in the meanwhile, we're as coaches preparing for the upcoming rookie camp where you know, the draft picks will be in for that camp to the sign free agents after the draft still be in. And then we're also allowed to bring in guys on a three day tryout in. So we just met on the rookie camp that we're having next weekend. There'll be probably around sixty five players here the third of which will be draft draft players. Yeah. Free agents in I I would say two thirds will be on trial basis. Well, it looks like you got yourself a new center with the first overall pick of your draft in the second round out of Texas. Am kid Eric McCoy? Now, it was really nice moment for us in our draft coverage to look in on him when he was a apparently they're on the phone with you or Mickey loom. Finding out that his dream is coming true. "I don't know how to answer it. I feel like it's every other year. It's on the odd number years. So twenty nine hundred and it comes up, and then we'll hear it in twenty twenty one. And then he went as far as saying, I've got floored the lease tattoos that can't be erased. I don't know we're. We're Sean has tattoos. I don't wanna know. But. I don't know. I don't buy that. I don't buy that. He's like, oh, I got to sorry. My love for the saints runs. Pretty deep. What's it gonna say? I I really I don't really look into that much. Again. It's always going to be the question. Sean Payton this possible candidate to be the next the Cowboys next head coach to follow Jason Gert. I don't look into that way. I think he's got a pretty good situation there. He's being paid a lot of money. He's had successor. And I think until he gets fired until they decide that they wanna move on. He's going to be there. I don't think you can really just all of a sudden thing I want to be the coach of the Dallas Cowboys now if they pay fifteen million a year, maybe or John. I think he's probably making about what John gruden's make an annually, but the long term contract, which is guaranteed for one hundred million. But the point is I don't know why he would even think about leaving unless they force him out of town. Well, I think I think that but along with that I think you know, until you don't have drew Brees ride that train. You know what I mean? Like right now, you're Sean Payton the New Orleans Saints. You were blown call away from going to the Super Bowl. And I mean, it's not it's not even like, okay, Sean for twenty nine hundred you can either be the coach of the saints. He doesn't have the choice right now. You know what? I mean, like if he openly turned down the opening of the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job. Then I think that would be really fascinating. But you're right. Like, you said it. Well, like, what's he going to say? I mean, you know, like, the tattoo thing is really funny. And that's what kind of caught the headlines, but what is he supposed to say right now like, Sean, what are your thoughts on this job that isn't available right now. You know, I mean until until either. Jason Gerdes a contract extension or somebody else's the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I think that rumors will exist that he wants that job. I mean they've existed for a long time for a reason. But even if at the live room or they don't comment on anyway. Right. So I don't know how prudent the, you know, the news is. But I think I think it's very entertaining. Think that he's got to fill the question about that. And this fact that he just needs to give the vote of confidence to the fans, I think that's a good way just to to to put the put this news out. Yeah. It's it's some water. And I think it's yeah. Let people run with what what the response also think, Sean. Let's let's get real here. He's saying I've got tattoos that can't be race. Rex Ryan had a tattoo of his wife. When a Mark Sanchez jersey. I mean, you know, he he got that fixed. I think still there all he got it changed. Okay. I thought in my on. Yeah. In the tattoo. She was wearing a Mark Sanchez jersey. And he got the color changed when he became the bills head coach. So the jersey was like Bill definitely changes. But like even then like the tattoos like I mean, I feel silly getting this deep on a tattoo. But I mean, do you can have that saints tattoo forever? You want the freaking Super Bowl? They're like, even if you went and coached a Jaguars at some point in your life. Like what you did in New Orleans is still amazing, and you should still remember it forever..

"We'll get his take on the all star selections. And if he thinks it's a bad thing to have the draft made public is going to draft guys. Eric Mangini continues to join us. What did you think of how Sean Payton coached in the NFC championship game? Some of the some of the play calling. Did you do you have any negative reaction to it? I thought overall he he did a good job. I thought Wade Phillips nice show of taking away some things that were problem in in the first game. And and he made some adjustments to what they're doing with with KOMO or out of the backfield. They started to push them out of the backfield. You know, the the call we we've all talked about the call over and over again, and I get it. And we've all been frustrated by calls that were either missed or made that affected our lives. But that's that's part of what happened and maybe they'll change the rule. The only concern I have is they had a chance to go win the game. They had kids play defense. Then they got the ball. I just like New England did and overtime. So they had a little bit higher percentage of an opportunity to win the game. And they didn't. And then they had a chance to play defense again. And the Rams kick a fifty seven yard field goal. So you just wonder if that call got everybody's so preoccupied with with that moment that they weren't able to move on to all the other moments that would have given given them opportunity to even have to worry about about the call. Look I've been critical, and I think other people have as well of not running the ball. First second third down to take away the chances for the Rams take away their timeouts. I know they checked out of a run. On first down and even the past which is a pass interference that boat. Wasn't that both onto the inside she'd been during the outside? He here's what I'll say about that is over and over again. We celebrate Coty takes chances. Remember in the Super Bowl kicked in onsite kid. He takes chances. So to criticize the guy for putting the ball in his best players head in drew Brees is hands any critical moment, I have a really hard time with and even if they'd run the ball three times, there's still would've met I think fifty seconds left in the first game. If they don't get a first down you are allowed to get a first down when you're on the football. You are and you're allowed to get stopped and you're allowed to get a penalty. And you're allowed a lot of bad things can happen. But in the first game there are twenty six seconds left in the first half. When the Rams got the ball back and they walked down and kick a field goal. So to say that they couldn't do that in fifty seconds. Well, that's not true. We we saw it happened in the first game. So I just I think it's very easy after the fact that say he should have done this. He should have done. That but he put the ball in his best players hands. He checked out of a bad play into a good play. And look they got a penalty. It should have been a penalty. So to criticize him for that. I I don't feel good about. I don't love the way things were handled after after eight moments fair. Breeze. Hasn't looked the same is have we reached that point with Brees? Or is it a year the attrition of a season? And that's what happens with older players. They wear down at the end of the year like it breathes was not nearly as dynamic end of the year as most people think breeze should be well, this this this offense was was shaped a little bit differently. They had two running backs that we're really effective. And it was it was almost run I approach, and I I didn't see breezes performance later in the year as as a as a decline, I think sometimes the the scheme dictates, you know, more running than than passing, and it may may look a little bit different than what we've expected from that offense. But I don't think it was different because his performance had declined substantially would you consider the Cowboys if you're Payton? Why I I don't know why you hit hit hit reset with a better younger roster..

"So do you believe that being together for thirteen years that you just simply build on stuff to the point that year so much on the same wavelength now that it's almost like he complete each other's sentences. Yeah. It's sometimes that's the case. But I think we both in offensively collectively we always try to go back to the technique of simple routes to begin with. So because oftentimes we'll say, you know, he might be ready for like the fifth level. Calculus class. And yet you get a young player like trae quantities a rookie. It's that happy marriage of what to do with the people and. Listen, I think that. You know that special on my grin last night. And they were interviewing he and Brett farve. I didn't realize Mike it left. Green Bay having only coach Brett first season in half. And then Brett talking about the significance of man, Mike was so instrumental in the two of them. And and then all of a sudden he was gone, and there was multiple coaches then after. I'd never I just thought my comb coach far for eight years, you know. And so it only feels like six or seven years eight years. I say that I really mean that it doesn't feel like it's been as long as it has been in. You know, this this current years exciting, Sean Payton, drew Brees. You guys are going to go down as one of the best coach quarterback combinations in NFL history. And I really appreciate you. "This section of the podcast. I really liked to tell you a little bit about what the meeting was like between drew Brees and Sean Payton in which they go over the game plan, and it's like to John Nashes from Beautiful Mind talking to each other and talking a language that I certainly couldn't understand the same way. I would not have been able to understand John Nash and his mathematical formulas, but what I thought what I thought was was interesting overall and just a little bit of inside football here. During the course of the evening, obviously, there's some sensitive stuff that's being discussed and exactly what they're going to do in the game plan. I thought it was amazing. How free they were with their information. The saints coaches and players, and and I think that one of the reasons is that they're going through this football nomenclature so fast. And it just you know, and they go, and they go, and they go, and it's a language like, they're speaking Flemish, and I just can't understand a damn word. They're saying, but the interesting part of it. I think is and I think the reason why Peyton isn't worried about me leaking anything anybody. I mean is what what would I know when they say snug left Y fly P thirty five stab dog f rail. Everybody got that. And everybody says, yeah. And. And so, but I I don't know what any of those any of those words are symbols or herb reveal mean. So basically, I think there's no need to worry about it. I could hear that all day. But it's like if I was sitting in a room for the first day hearing, some different language, obviously, I'm not gonna have any idea what they're saying. So I found that to be really really interesting. The one thing that will tell you before I get into the breeze part. That was very interesting is that Peyton is. Just this crazy mad scientist when he's thinking of plays to this point. He started thinking he was said he was doodling Thursday night. And he started thinking why do we have to have a quarterback in a formation? Why can't we have a totally empty backfield? No quarterback, no running back. And obviously at some point. There's going to be somebody there to take snap. But why can't we have a totally empty? Backfield where we'll have five ofensive linemen. And what I'm gonna do is. We're gonna have a bunch formation on the right with two wide receivers and our backup quarterback tastes them hill who also plays sort of jack-of-all-trades role form on the left hand side. We're gonna have to wide receivers in drew Brees. And so we're gonna come up to the line of scrimmage and the play clock will be going down twelve eleven ten nine. And I asked him about it. And he said now my goal is for there to be eight Philadelphia Eagles all looking at their their defensive play collars, Malcolm Jenkins. My goal is to have them. All looking at Malcolm Jenkins saying what do we do? Because you know, if you don't have a quarterback are running back back there. What do you do? And so and I said, okay. Well, what do you do? And he goes, well, eventually, either tastes them hill or. Breeze is gonna come back. He's gonna take the snap. And do whatever the design was when that happened tastes them hill was gonna come back, and he was going to take the snap for max the center, and he was going to run around right end. And hopefully run at their target of the day. Sidney Jones a cornerback who they don't think tackles will. So anyway, I thought that was sort of the darndest thing I've ever seen in my life. I'm watching this play. And I am saying somebody forgot to play quarterback there. So that was that was pretty pretty interesting. So let's let me go to the the meeting now between breeze and Peyton that. I thought was so I thought one of the really really interesting parts of it is just the realisation that a coach are smart coach is now. Not an autocratic, man. A smart coach is a bit of a democrat. He's a bit of a collaborative person much more. So than you would think in the days of Lombardy, and and even in the days of Bill Walsh. I once was able to sit in on a week of the Green Bay Packers in it. And I do remember I in the Saturday meeting that Brit farve in Mike Holmgren had. Honglin said, here's the place..

"Jimmy was the guy, and he seized total autonomy. He did. He wasn't giving it. He just took it. Thank you. What what they had in Dallas, Jamie, and that young roster begged we to. I might be over here having a different discussion. I might just have one re Boorda cowboy with loaded. Again. I've defended Jerry on this because he did go get Charles Haley. That was Jimmy, that was Jerry, and he did go get Dion. So that was in that one Barry Switzer ship. But I'm gonna say it again. This is back in the early nineties, maybe ninety one the great and light front before did a big profile on Jerry Jones for Vanity Fair in in it. Jerry was quoted as saying, I could coach the, you know what out on this football team. And he still believes believes that with all his heart and soul, that today he could coach the you-know-what out of this football team. He also said the night that he fired Jimmy Johnson, five hundred coaches could coach team and win a championship with it, and he hired the five hundred and I coach on the list Barry Switzer to do that. And he did. Jimmy said, you better start auditioning tonight. This piece, but here's the thanksgiv- and those were q. huge signings, Charles Haley. And the time put that team was built. I got it because Jimi had come from the college level. He tried to recruit a lot of those guys. They ended up being on the Cowboys Ross and they won't load it. Yeah. So at this stage in age of his life, I think just once business as usual, he doesn't wanna turn it upside down and start over with Sean McVay because you'd be hard man or Sean Payton or pay. Can you imagine what the Cowboys would be would a Sean McVay or Sean Payton with their creativity and that offense, oh failures. It would there be some clashing going on behind closed doors? Yep, Debbie, a law. Jerry doesn't want that. And Jason guarantee will clash nothing. He's sitting there making three, three and a half million dollars clamp. Let Let me me lap. lap. Skip. I love beta, but somebody paid me three being to go clap. I gotta do shocked. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Over here all the team when I watched him now, it's the only thing I looked at. You've kind of ruined it for me to see this and him chewing gum. That's all I look for. So you going to tell you go, you wanna challenge, get it wrong and get. I can't tell like when you're happy with the Cowboys or. Oh, I'm getting a little desperate over here. Could I not? I know what you would be on Monday morning. See, I still got back Zeke. We'll see. We'll see. I still got the Shaw. Okay. All right. Abia to get that buzzer four Monday. Okay. Well, Tom Brady be out for revenge tomorrow night against the. There we'll discuss. There are tons of storylines for that game tomorrow night. The patriots and colts will meet with the first time since the twenty fourteen AFC championship game also known as the deflate gate game that led to Tom Brady suspension. "End of this season that they would bring in coached the team is i don't definitely don't get any better for this team and there's a long time giant fan i mean steve i'm a giant fencing type is in issues i've seen some bad season but this is like offbreak in job just kind of carry sister you know who do you think they bring it because they can't cheat him keeping mac and do all reach and my comment to you steve is i'm listening to you for many many years and i think you're the best of what you go and i speak for myself you millions of fans i say to you steve your bigger than us deal have a good enough and i appreciate the godfather of reds version or whatever it is i'm good add please and eggs diamond call let me know exactly what it is so i could do it again but the bottom line is that you know that's a tough question be a you know they would love to have out of sean payton if they could ghettos sean payton you know who you hear the names out of college whether it be hard bog coming back to the nfl whether it be annex sabin coming but why should they take of bakaa the gun to the new york football giants i mean you could go it could be an assistant somewhere well that's what we god a with makhadov so i hope by edgar whoever they do higher after the bed makhadov on that if somebody who can exercise his discipline with some consistency whether it has to do with a wide receiver or whether it asked to do with the corner or whether it has to do with a safety that dad that may be a god forbid you get a head coach who the team gives maximum effort maximum passion maximum desire like every week during us sixteen seventeen weeks even all right we'll take a quick break before we get back to.

"And then when you commit zero turnovers you've done it now three games in a row the seitz a thirty three and four underage sean payton and then they've also added this though the land you up to a 3 interceptions when they've had that in a game the event twelve no so and i just look at like taken the ball away spores the turnovers scoring defense and it protecting the football the safes that not only been great they've been dominant since two thousand six so i know short makes the team aware of that yeah and you know what body i think every coach make his team aware of that and i think i think if you look at it at a majority of the teams in the nfl or maybe even in college football i don't know but in the nfl you you could pull up similar statistic men have similar result that the safe what we think happened during the course of the game take away giveaway is is huge huge and normally when i look at the stats of a team that's the first thing outlook at because i think that if you're on the plus side by whatever you know you're going to you're going to win most of the time all the time no there's been times when you're going to have your cake away in your opponent you're still going when the game but it's it's a very telling statistic and and as far as the outcome of the game and concern to say to i mean they're they're they're they're statistic in that regard are phenomenal and they do that every game they win the super bowl probably but they're probably not going to do it but yeah i agree with you i think it i think it's extreme molly important and you're going to happier you're going to make your team aware of those staffed all the time and you're always going to be get those kind of things but i take every team does the same thing coaches art gum sean payton isn't the only smart coach in the nfl other head coaches cal came to the same thing now coach pay coach bora when i look at the saint so run the pass ratio passed a run take the approaches graders drew brees is less of drew is more and as far as you know what risk are you taking and i thought at the game plan and i.

"All of the shelves of the nfl with all new players as long as you believe the fifty 53 that are wearing your helmet are better than the next fifty three i don't know the people have the heart of a top with it and you don't want scab players either been through that as well sean payton got in the league by the way sean payton it was a scab player before he became an nfl coach he was a guy that was that was part of the uh the strike team of in the believers the late eighties whenever the last the one of the last time that they had a a strike he was a um a quarterback that they find on the scrapheap now of course he the brakes accessible nfl coach where i don't want that i would love for the nfl as strong as it is jason to be able had the same labor pieces the nba and major league baseball they're fine it seems like that there is a a a great conversation between the players association and adam silver in the nba the same thing in major league baseball everything seems to be fine in the afl need to have that labor peace and i think that with this um collective bargaining session coming up in a few years this may really defined the goodell era i know that he's concerned about his legacy because everything's gone on what domestic violence and and now all the things that he had to deal with as a commissioner i think that he really wants to be able to dig into his legacy like other commissioners his work it's a positive one burst the negative one could you imagine a lockout under a goodell at just be another the black mark on his resume as a leader in the nfl i also believe in the process we'll find out how passionate the players are about change because they'll have the opportunity to elect someone other than the morris smith before they actually get to the lockout periods so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out coming up next jeff dickerson you usually hear him hanging out well you'll get to hear him up next.
