Panthers' Matt Rhule Is Making a Bid for Best NFL Coach This Season
"I wanna talk about the best young coach football. And it's not necessarily sean mcveigh. It's clear that it's not only an indictment on the new york jets operation. But what you're seeing was sam darnold in the carolina. Panthers is pretty remarkable the knock on darnold out of college there to know with too comfortable wins but the knock on darnold out of college and i watched every snap was his accuracy issues. What does he completing now. Seventy percent of his throws. He doesn't make mistakes total composure. It would be easy to just say. This is an indictment on the jets but instead of just the negative side. Let's look realistically at the positive side. Not only has met rule made darnold more comfortable. This defense has twenty one quarterback hits and ten sacks in two games. What does that tell you. The culture of the carolina. Panthers is headed in the right direction. It also tells you. This is a remarkable stat on matt rule. The coach carolina going back to the beginning of last year. You will not believe this. Carolina leads the nfl with the fewest. Three and outs that with teddy bridgewater and start with. Sam darnold. nothing about that not mahomes. Not lamar jackson. Not tom brady. Not derek carr not matt ryan not russell wilson not aaron rodgers. No the fewest three and outs matt rule. Teddy bridgewater and sam darnold but this is a offensive line. That outside of right tackle graded poorly left. Tackle all the way to right guard. What matt rule is doing with this sub optimal often. It's of line. The scarce number of three out the revamping rebooting of sam darnold is really mind-blowing
3 Fun Facts About the NFL Wild Card Weekend
"Card Weekend fun facts. Did you know that I did not notice the head coach of the Colts Frank Reich Greek Reich, right? Let's go with Reich. He looks like our friend Rob Chickering. Hi, every time we see Craig a sponge bag. That's not the fun fact. So the fun fact is like for those of you who don't know who to help Rob Chickering is that does not matter know the fun fact is Frank Wright was drafted by the bills from 1985 and he faces them this weekend in the wild card game that fun fact more. Fun fact, Amy and I weren't even born yet. That's more amazing fun. Right no choice. Oh, yeah. I mean fun fact number to Pete Carroll is 34 years and 131 days older than Sean McVay. So Seattle plays the Rams this coming weekend right? I know a dead. All right, so Pete Carroll 34 years and 131 days older than Sean McVeigh which sets the record for the largest age differential between opposing head coaches in a playoff game in NFL history. This is so dorky. I'm pretty convinced Joey said you that one because she's been walking around feeding me stats from the 2013 Seahawks season. Shoot me fucking shoot me dead. Yeah, so I didn't realize that a baby shot McVeigh is but he totally is again, we've been like, oh my gosh, like cradle-robbing with him. Yeah. He's younger than I am fuck off. Okay, I don't want let's not talk about it. All right moving on the one thing real quick remove on cuz you're talking about the Seahawks because of the masks. I miss Pete Carroll chewing like a maniac I miss seeing them come with you can't see it under his mask know remember when he'd see his mouth like this like I'm doing a search. Yeah. I look like a squirrel but like it's his mouth go Bonkers and the gifts were better that way now we're just looks dead. A mask that's vibrating. It's weird. Maybe it is maybe he's got some fun going on toward his mask. That's the mask. We need adds to the most everybody needs a phone. Next. Fun fact, fun fact number three Lamar Jackson won the MVP in 2019, but he lost in the playoffs to the Titans. Now, they face the Titans again this weekend and change history does not suggest that he will get revenge because each of the previous quarterbacks to lose a playoff game the year that they won MVP and then played the same opponent following year lost that rematch. So if you're going by that fact, you're looking at a Titans win,
NFL reminds teams to follow sideline rules on face coverings
"The National Football League is threatening to find head coaches if they don't adhere to Corona virus rules requiring face masks on the sidelines. During the first weekend of games. Some coaches were saying not wearing coverings. We have the latest from NPR's Tom Goldman. In a Monday memo to the NFL's 32 teams. We'd executive Troy Vincent praised what he called the tireless efforts to make the season possible during the pandemic. But Vincent also warned those who defy rules unmasks everyone in team bench areas on the field except players has to wear a face covering in all times. Failure to do so, Vincent wrote, will result in accountability measures against individuals and or clubs. Those measures include finds during Sunday's nationally televised game between Dallas and the Los Angeles Rams. Ella head coach Sean McVeigh, often at his mask under his chin, while Dallas is Mike McCarthy wore his thie entire game. Tung Goldman NPR news
Buffalo Clinches Playoff Birth
"Your namesake team is in in the play offs. The bills I mean. I don't WanNa Brag Bill. Barnwell is a senior football writer at. ESPN he has consulted with NFL teams. But the bills are not in fact named after him. So tonight the buffalo bills beat the Pittsburgh steelers seventy ten clinching a spot in the postseason and bill. What's amazing about this team? Aside from being named after you Is that for most of the two thousands. They didn't even have a winning record but but now they have made the playoffs in two of the last three years during this rebuilding process. Where does this recent success begin in your mind? I think the simplest place for it to start is just hiring Sean McDermott. This is a coach. Who really seems at odds with with a lot of what? NFL Teens tend to do when they have head coaching opportunity. Pop Up Sean. mcdumber forty two wasn't like he was old but let's face face it every coaching opportunity. That's popped up over. The last three years has basically been. Let's try and get a offensive minded coach or someone who is particularly close to. Sean McVeigh and correct defensive minded coach the panthers weren't even coming off a good season they were six and ten and ranked twenty six points allowed the year before so the bills really took a shot on shark dermott top of that. The bills gave McDermott some level of personnel control. which teams are really it? Really Loath to do it. First Year head coaches but it worked. The bills had an excellent free agent period in two thousand seventeen and they earned their draft totally differently that year their previous previous GM Doug Whaley had repeatedly traded up in years past regrettable move. Sammy Watkins. Being the most notable one but damage first move was to trade down and and the first player he drafted was Davis White. WHO had a big game against the steelers? Last night tonight again squirts out of bounds around the twenty yard long. So why headed early picked in fact. We'll before McDermott joined the team in two thousand sixteen they had the twenty seventh best defense in the NFL according to football outsiders after that they started taking up up in now bill. It's one of the best units in the League. How did this defense gets so good so quickly? I mean just to keep it simple. They got rid of everybody pretty much. I mean. The fifty three players were on their roster for the final game in two thousand sixteen before Mcdermott arrived. There's three guys left in the Renzo Alexander Jerry News and Shack Lawson all front seven pieces. I mean everyone else. Fifty other players on this roster Aurora ellsworth point and the bills have drafted well. But I think what makes this team so interesting as they really go out of their way to get veterans from other rosters and saw seemed to get more out of those players in their previous teams games in their first free agent period Jordan play Mike Hide Jordan Philips for example comes to mind in recent years where he was a second round. Pick washout of Miami. The bills brought him in. He has nine and a half sacks this season as defensive tackle. That's really impressive. There's just a lot of players on this roster who either were good somewhere and have become great in buffalo or who really weren't playing very well at all or almost out of the League who have become regulars on this really talented bills defense so last year the bills. Roll the dyson Josh Allen in the draft trading up to take him seventh overall despite his lack of college production in his rookie season was pretty underwhelming warming. Bill Fifty two point eight percent. Completion percentage just five point four adjusted guards per attempt. It seemed to me that they approached this off season with a really concerted strategy to build around him in free agency. Signings worked out for the team. It's been really good. I mean it's really the same philosophy sophy we saw on the defensive side of the ball. Those have had fifteen players. I not on offense for at least twenty percents of the snaps. Twelve of those guys are new into the roster. It's both running backs. All three of their tight ends five of their six top offensive. Lineman you know in a League where so many times you hear here that a team should sign a player or they actually do sign a player because they know the system quote unquote the bills. Sort of realized. Hey we have coaches who we pay to teach each player's the system. We should just go get those guys instead and so many of those players are playing in a high level and I think. It's really been perfect for Josh Allen Alan who even going back to Wyoming. He had to play hero ball. He had to sort of make big plays for his team to win. And we've seen a totally different quarterback this shear. I wouldn't argue. Allen is finished product but he's been productive quarterback this year a using his legs to create opportunities. He's hitting a lot of intermediate passes when he didn't do that last year. And he's avoiding turnovers man after throwing four interceptions in that really frustrating loss the Patriots week for this offense. Turn the ball over four. We're times in nine games. That's incredible for an offense that really just turn the ball over at will last season and they turn the ball over twice against the steelers last last night but they still did enough on offense to victory the snap just gonNa keep it off. He will sail. into the end zone touchdown touchdown buffalo. Josh Allen from one yard out and the bills are on the scoreboard early in the second quarter. Do you think there are any lessons. That other teams can take from the bills rebuilding process. Yeah I I do think so and I'm GonNa make a comparison that I'm sure. Bills fans are not really gonNA love but there's a lot of patriots in what the bills have done in their philosophy. The bills have been great at Pro Scouting and they've really found a way to bringing those players like I said who were struggling elsewhere. who were just guys elsewhere and turn them into much better contributors with Buffalo? They've done great work with undrafted. Free Agency have a couple starters in their secondary from there as well. They built their scheme scheme to really accommodate their players. And that's not just the Patriots thing but also way ravens thing where we're seeing that with Lamar Jackson and all the great stuff they've done on offense The bills don't have a scheme that throws the ball up fifteen times a game downfield. Just because Josh Allen has a strong arm they create better throws for him that that play to his arm strength as opposed to just trying to hit a big play because Josh Allen has in his arsenal I think in the big picture. There's just this idea that you shouldn't blindly follow what the NFL does with their trans so the bills are in the playoffs. Most likely as a wildcard team and bill while the defense is he's one of the best in the league offense has been up and down they really didn't produce very much against Pittsburgh. Do you think that that's a formula that can and work in January. I do not. I think they're a team. Nobody's GONNA WANNA play this postseason. It's very different from twenty seventeen eighteen where I don't think it's fair to say. The bills sort of meant the playoffs by accident that year. When they benched tyrod Taylor Nathan Peterman in mid season and kind of just rent a hot streak into the playoffs over the final month of the year? This team is way better on defense. They have more faith than Allen and I think the playoffs actually line up pretty well for for them as a five seat which is most likely where they're gonNA fall. They're terrible matchup for the Texans who they really really gave a tough game. Two in two thousand eighteen only for Nathan Peterman the throw too late interceptions to hand the texts victory and then they gave them our tax and Fitz. When they played last Sunday? I don't think this is going to be the last time the bills are going to be in the playoffs with this court. They're really opposition to be the best team in the AFC east. If the Patriots slip any further. And I am. I don't think I think it's too far to say that I'd be the best team in the AFC east right now

"And you and I might have the same goals, but he knows that I'm meeting differently than unique things as brilliant of a schematic mind as he is. He's exponentially better with understanding each guy is different and they need different tools to get where I want them to get. So I'd still say him, but if I had to just if I had to drop down the ranks and pick a college guy, I would I would probably pick Lincoln Riley or Daboh, but I'd pick Lincoln Riley strictly because I there's he's untapped as well. Like he's just getting started. All right. Dan, Orlov ski ESPN football analyst here in the Steve Smith show was Wilkin always love having you, man. Thank you for your time, brother. One of the things really quickly about the Lincoln Riley, Sean McVeigh's of the world, measured against the dabbled twenties of Clemson, for the world is, I think that the NFL constantly values scheming, having the next hot thing having the guy who can design an offense to not just put your team in a winning position but to attract eyeballs and become the envy of everybody else in the room when the one proven thing to establish yourself as a year in year out contender, his leadership, those, your guy have leadership characteristics Orlovsky talked about it when it comes to Sean McVeigh, because he's not just a schemer we're going to find that out about guys like cliff, Kingsbury and others that have followed the McVeigh scheming quarterback development genius route. But if you're looking at the one trait that is continued to dominate the NFL. It's the trait possessed by Bill Belichick, its leadership is disciplined is crossing your TS dotting, your is it is finding Val. You were others ignore if that's what we know I'm just curious. Why do we constantly overlook a guy in college football who's proven to have the same kind of traits? Why we constantly overlook Dabo twenty at Clemson, the Stephen Smith show will Cain filling in for Stephen vast. Do you want career moving on his own? If you're the Brooklyn nets or anybody else out there and maybe get Kevin Durant. Maybe you don't you take the gamble of having kyri on his own by himself. Would you really trade from diangelo Russel to Cairo Erving? Andrew in New Jersey. What's up Andrew on Steve? Nice michaud. How's it? So we'll never. How's it? Going out there. Don't be nervous. Spin it out. What's up man? Yes. So personally for me, I'd rather have Cairo over the angel Well, and and I got I got. a reasons for why these. Deal with the first reason as at the beginning in the end of the season. Charissa Vert was the better player on the Mets. He's Simone really one first playoff game against Filadelfia and then he did play very well before the off. He went down with that devastating injury. And then to during that seven game winning streak. I'd say that Spencer did what he was more of an x factor than Russell before the end of the James growth, the while Dinwiddie did win that most of the games. All right. I appreciate your reasons Andrew. And thank you for the call allow me to lay out a few Dangelo Russell or Kyrie Irving. Would you trade from one to the other the only way to fairly compare this to measurement the same point in their careers? Right now, Kyrie Irving is the better talent than the ngelo Russell. But he's also four years older. He's twenty seven years old to Dangelo Russell's twenty three years old Zach Lowe, a new common ESPN dot com said almost every executive pulled in the NBA.
Kilmer Val Kilmer, Robert Pattinson And Warner Brothers discussed on Waddle & Silvy
"That. Couple Warner Brothers has confirmed that Robert Pattinson is the new Batman in the next, Batman franchise robber, Pat, Patterson giving light. Yes. Twilight fame, so you guys like that. I mean. No. I do we just is this, the thing where you just once the Batman franchise ends. You just pick it up with a new Batman and you go from there again readings like they're doing. Not even that it's just okay. We're going to redo the story now. And give you a new Batman. He just doesn't fit the Bruce, Wayne Batman like no stereotype. You know what I mean? Like I wanna see, like what's his name? He just did the no did it. But I'm saying new new guy. He just did. He just did pardon my take with big cat. It was in the van with and we were talking about Sean McVeigh. No, no. I know the I know the good looking guy. Yeah. The good looking guy Stephen Shammy, Steve Shammy. That's steve. Can you name the love can you name the actors joins company? It was about man. Michael keaton. Abed pledges then Aflac was Batman, Bill? Kilmer Val Kilmer was Batman. Yes. And the one. That's pretty much most of the modern ones. Yeah. Christian bale was awesome the night series. No doubt I absolutely love love, but you have to admit even though that was that was that, that three Zaka front. Thank you. Danny Lynch, fine, who Shemi still would be

"Plus fifty nine because they're really good. They're not allowing any runs. So that's interesting. Yeah. They're pitching great. They've only one hundred and ten runs in. That's by far the league low. The dodgers. Are let's say the dodgers of lead and actually one hundred sixty three their things that they've been just popping the crap out of the ball only. The Seattle shockingly has most runs scored in the season. Yeah. Which is surprising. Right. I mean, they're good. They're twenty and twenty came out to a great. Start though. Yeah. But I just don't think I wouldn't have thought of him as an offensive powerhouse team. But yeah, the dodgers are second in the league with two hundred fourteen run scores. I mean, I I don't know. Everything's good with the dodgers right now. I like, so basically what you're saying is it's baseball. Yeah. It's just baseball. But it's dodger baseball the emergence of at least what we've seen is that it's it's reliable sort of everything. It's good deputies pitching. It's good hitting power. And it's just do you have the final recipe to beat the whether it was the Red Sox or the Astros when he gets the World Series. So that's that's probably why right now we can. So we can talk about all that. But that nothing has changed for the dodgers in the last couple of weeks. Now, listen, either go to the World Series. I mean, as you mentioned the cubs are so look out for you know, they're playing the nationals next couple of nights nationals are not good team. So I'm not really that worried. They they got they got sheers are coming in no against the pitching matchups. But they're just not a good team. Now, the fourteen to twenty two lost four in a row, and they don't hit that. Well, and they're right. Yeah. They. Got a bunch of young guys. Like, you know, it's, but it's not a team that you. Yeah. They don't strike fear. I would say though that when you're when you're a team that's on like this like the daughters and you play whether it's the giants or the like a team that you just played in the playoffs. Right. I guess there's a little juice. Yeah. You'll get they'll get a little more juice coming into utter stadium. There's a little juice. But I mean, everybody was coming into Dodger Stadium has been losing lately. So right as they should. I mean, look the dodgers in Rams. They got this thing. Humming right now. I feel like those two the other do you know what? No question. Dave Roberts, our buddy, you know, it's baseball. And my other buddy, our buddy, Sean McVeigh, pre K Q buttering me up your they got us. And you know, what just the Lakers catch up? Let's go head Paul George just made the proper decision Palmdale p. And come to play alongside the Braun instead of going Oklahoma City hates you for an inevitable first round loss next to Russ everything could have been different. But alas not the case, buddy. Then happened that way the reality of it. So you know, we'll see somebody's coming this summer. I mean, I hope so God, please. God. Let me tell you something. If someone doesn't come this summer, I'm going to go nuclear because. Oh, full synon-. I I didn't come here for LeBron. Come here. Not play with somebody. Really awesome. Okay. Sorry. It's not like, okay. Go back to Miami. I mean, get retire got a place to live and you don't want to go back to Miami. At least I could still work for ESPN. Yeah. Sure. Kind of like the third. I wouldn't be though, I feel like third wheel with with the poppy. Yeah. Dan, there's that could have maybe. No, I'm not saying. You're not employable at other places. I'm just saying no, I came here because LeBron's here. All right. I need to winning. Let's go everybody. Here wants winning right back to the situation is an ideal going whack. I do it. All right now. That's not good wackadoo is not a good comparison. I don't enjoy losing do you?.

"I'm more critical of Sean McVeigh, not helping him out. Then I am of Jerry golf golf is a developing quarterback, Sean McVay I've seen this happen before after the game. He sell a man's my fault got out coached. But after. Halftime the longest halftime ever. What type of Justice did you make? So there's a system, but there's also how much variance do we have in this system? The Bill to help the players. That's the part. I was not happy with Sean McVay after halftime. How did he help the kid out, and it's up to McVay and golf to figure out? How could it be that for the first eleven games of the year? Twenty six touchdown six picks a one fourteen rating, and we're ten and one and over the last eight games of the year seven touchdowns. Eight picks a seventy four rating, and we're five and three those are decent. Sample sizes. What happened after that chiefs game? We all saw that what they have to figure out this offseason. All right. Let's take a break coming up. What Anthony Davis make the Lakers title contenders? That is a head on. I. NFL head coach Eric Mangini is here morning coach. Back coach never too soon to look ahead something you love to do with your schedules and whatnot. Granted this Uber bowl. Is barely in the speed. The odds are already out for next season. Yup. The odds are already out for next season. And the chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes coach or the early favorites to win Super Bowl. Fifty four happens to be on FOX shameless. Plug the Rams saints and patriots are all tied for the second. Best odds coach, what do you make the list should the chiefs barely favorites? So who this was up just reeked of Nick. I don't says is odds. City was. From your hotel room. This is Rica. The nick. Look, I I understand that. We we need to go through this process. But the idea of looking that far head is is is pretty amazing in terms of Kansas City if I had to evaluate it. I would say they have as good a chance as anybody just because well what it's going to announce the maturity of the quarterback and Mahomes this year and the successes had how does he deal with that success? What is it? What does he learn from it? And as we know success affects people in radically different ways, some people embrace it. Some people look to to to try to build on it. And then other people are -ffected on it affected by it by taking a step back. But the other teams we know New England handles change, and there's going to be significant significant change this off season. So they're the most capable of dealing with all the the transitions in terms of the saints. We're gonna have to see where we're drew breezes in terms of the Rams they're gonna have. They don't have many draft picks and the second. They don't have a third. They've got decent amount of cafes. The team that I think price should that list listed the Colt Colt. When you look at nine draft picks about a healthy, Andrew luck. They've got caught new down the staff, and they have one hundred and five million thousand cap space got v MOS space in if I was looking at everybody that's the team. I would say, okay. Their best position going into the offseason in terms of building to the draft building through free agency, continuity, a healthy quarterback success a young roster that to me would be should be in this list of team, we're discussing and I don't know if you mentioned that you might have apologized they have extra draft picks as well. Like the jets say jets second round pick as part of the Clinton Nelson trade from last year, the get a compensatory fourth. So they and they and they've done a good job with draft right on top of that. They've shown their ability to to do well with dress for some context, Chris..

"We'll go down as all Super Bowls do in the record books as a neutral site game. But I can personally test to the fact having been there last night. It was anything, but it was a major big advantage for the patriots with being essentially a game in Foxboro with a dome and a roof on top Tom car and joining us from NBC sports Boston here the day after the patriots when they're six. Super Bowl championship on the rich Eisen show. However, Tom, I'm good to an obscure you've gotta question lined up. But I go to on Friday. You know, that's one thing that really opened my eyes rich was when Sean McVeigh said to Serena Williams, who's the NFC pool. Reporter we just had background music here in practice because we don't figure it's going to be real loud. And it's not gonna be like was against New Orleans and some neutral site, and what does he talking about? This not gonna be any LA fans there. It's a dome. People get noisy in these things. Anyway, two thousand thirteen saw Peyton Manning ticket safety at the outset of a game in the Super Bowl at an outdoor stadium. I just thought that was a incredibly short sighted decision by him. And you know, he's a terrific coach. And I think that the cut of his jib is one that I like me to. But I also think that he had a tough tough day. Well, I mean, we we had Jeff Schwartz on an hour one. And he agreed that he was out coached. But look McVeigh's a special special person and coach in I'm an I'm not going to throw the baby out with the Super Bowl bathwater. Then everybody just. Guy who's coaching in his he who just one is eighth Tracy his eighth Super Bowl. It's no. It's not a fair fight. It's nuts. So what our ask you again? And I may have asked you before what does he do that that no other coaches are able to do as well. Let's put it that way. I mean, what what does Bella check do with his staff with the players that makes it work. I think I have a good answer for you and Kevin clocks in the ring road. A good story about it too. Would more than anything else differentiates the patriots from every other team is they make themselves adaptable. Their system is no system. It is whatever it needs to be. So that's why sometimes over the course of a season of takes a long time for the team to develop. And that's why sometimes they can solicit players who are not height weight speed demons that everybody else jumps off the jumps off the page for bills. Why does it keep getting? From Rutgers because his a certain style of player who has to have a level of trust ability, maturity and intelligence and nothing Rutgers is a boatload of those guys, but Christiano in Stephen we're both evil sign off on them as guys who were smart and could adapt. So you get those spun adaptable guys new change season goes on and you change and change change dot they Hightower played for Sabin. And he's the smartest player that Kirby smart ever recruited when he was at Alabama, and you put all these guys together and you put Tom Brady in there. And you say, okay, we're gonna change every week. It's going to suck because a lot harder for you than everybody else believed. What's gonna happen is by the end of the year? You're not gonna know if you're the opposing coach your team just what we're going to be on that day. So that's my best definition. Jeff Schwartz told us as well in previous appearance here is that was that with the giants going against him that they prepared for three different looks and the one that. They've thought they would see the least they saw the most and it really caught them flatfooted a little bit. And it's just really remarkable in that. And then Edelman being the MVP is kind of perfect in a way. And I know he sat for four weeks for for PD's. But what he is is a guy who is you wanna talk about dapple. I mean, the guy had I do believe one catch in college. He came in as a seventh round quarterback. And now only Jerry Rice has more playoff yards receiving than Ataman. And it's gonna be Edelman Brady Eshelman..

"I am Danny Parkin's coming to you from the great city of Chicago. The Rams attempted to kick they missed it. Greg's our line pulled it wide left. There's five seconds left. Patriots thirteen Rams three will be the final score. Did we just watch great defense or an awful Super Bowl? Eight five five two one two four two two seven. I thought it was an awful Super Bowl. Sure. There was some great defense. And Wade Phillips got the best of Josh mcdaniels and Bill Belichick got the best of. Sean McVeigh and the defense outshined the offense. That is undeniably true. But you go through and you look at what we just I mean. The Rams in the first half had two first downs. Fifty seven yards and six months. We had to get into the third quarter for golf to have more completions than the Rams had punts. Sean McVay and Jared Goff laid a Cold War egg. These were two of the top four scoring teams in the NFL. And the offense is terrible. Congratulations to the patriots begrudgingly. I was ready for this dynasty to be over. And I normally in the guy that loves greatness. I am not a patriot tater I rooted for them when they were eighteen against the giants back in the day. I just did not think that this patriots team was special. And I was ready for something new this season felt like it was about the passing of the guard in the NFL to Sean McVeigh is the the next young hotshot coach to Patrick Mahomes as the next young hotshot quarterback. Baker Mayfield Jared Goff. It felt like a great season of high scoring teams young quarterbacks and the passing of the baton type of season. And the patriots aren't ready to give it up yet. They weren't ready to give it up. They are the greatest dynasty in modern American team sports. We'll see who ends up getting the MVP. I have a suspicion. It'll be joined almond who had ten catches for one hundred and forty one yards. I could see Sony Michelle getting it give it he finished with ninety four yards and one touchdown. I'll be Florida Brady gets it again for his fifth Super Bowl MVP fumble. They didn't lose it. But he also threw an interception and no touchdowns. So we'll wait on the MVP award. But. I just feel like we watched a game that was dominated by punting and field position. But overall, just not great football. I have no problem with a defensive game. I host afternoons here at the score. In chicago. My co host is older. He's fifty seven I'm thirty two. He paints me as a guy who only loves offense. It's not true. He does preferred defensive football. I just like good football. And I don't think we just watched good football. We just watched. Neither team throw for three hundred yards. We watched the patriots go three for twelve on third down. We watch the Rams go three for thirteen on third down. It was just we saw nine penalties from the Rams turnovers. Both ways it was just. It was a spectacularly mundane boring football game. When the Steelers would play the ravens, and it would be nine to six and it was great defense. I got no problem with it that Bama LSU game back in the day. No problem with it. This game was boring. Very little about that football game. I found redeeming in any way. Now, there were some interesting elements of it that will get into as we go for everyone that wants to review defensive pass interference penalty calls. I felt there were two prime examples. One in the first half and one late on the deep past two cooks that he should have caught that was the past before Jared Goff through it ended up being the game sealing interception. I am anti reviewing penalties. We can get into that. As we go. Imagine watching this game and being a saints fan. I have a buddy who I was watching the first half with. He went to two lane. He said he was talking to some of his buddies in New Orleans at bars, they were just showing the Super Bowl from two thousand and nine which is a hell of a flex by New Orleans bars. Like, yeah, sure, we'll put the Super Bowl on some of the TV's, but not all of them because we deserve to be there. We're putting the Super Bowl that we won on their imagine. Watching that game is the chief's fan a saints fan. Honestly, a bears fan given that they played the patriots to seven point game earlier in the season beat the Rams fifteen to six and lost to the eagles in the wild card around because Cody parkey hit the upright and the crossbar. Lot of teams feel like if they were on the field tonight. They would have won. But obviously the patriots the only team that did. And they are the champs. Six Super Bowls Tom Brady now no player in NFL. History has one more he passed Charles Haley who he was tied with for the record haven ballot. Check keep adding to their own records, and they are the greatest dynasty in football history. And I would argue modern American team sport history. I'm not going to go all the way back to you know, John wooden UCLA Bruins or Bill. Russell celtics. I don't go back that far different era of sport. But if you go nineteen seventy-five on baseball basketball football hockey, I think patriots dynasty spanning. Seventeen eighteen years with nine Super Bowl appearances. In six wins is the best dynasty in modern American team sports. Tom Brady goes to a Super Bowl at a higher clip than Michael Jordan made field goals. It's just insane. It is just an insane run that even though I'm done with it, and I'm bored with it. And I thought this was spectacularly unspectacular. I gotta tip my flat Bill to him. So a hell of a game. It's a hell of an accomplishment. It's a hell of a legacy. Bill ballot. Check is the greatest coach in the history of the sport. Tom Brady is the most accomplished quarterback in the history of the sport. And they keep changing over the pieces. And they keep dominating. I mean think about Bill bell. Check tonight holding the Rams to three points. Since Sean McVay has taken over the Rams there. The leading offense in the NFL last two seasons averaging over thirty one a game holds them to three tonight. Fewest points in Super Bowl history. And he did it in a game where he lost Patrick Chung and Dante Hightower and they still dominated. That is just a dominating performance by the patriots. Eight five two four two two seven and a good game. Like, I feel bad a bad game with great defense. I just feel so unsatisfied by teddy KGB when Mike McDermott came in and just took him for that quick ten grand to pay off his fifteen and leave with the five. Just coming in from the cold for a little, you know, what not sure if I can say it on CBS sports radio. It was such a great championship Sunday. Even though chiefs fans felt like they were robbed with the overtime rules and saints fans felt like they were robbed with the non pass interference call and there was controversy associated with both of those games. Two Sundays ago. I felt like I was watching the four best teams in the NFL all play there. A minus games. It felt like it was great football. Best teams playing their best in the biggest moments. This was just. Two teams playing with high stakes at times great defense at times big plays. I mean the Brady to gronk drive was spectacular. The wheel route played a Brady to start the drive perfect touch pass than a couple of plays later. Deep down the left side. If that's the last game of rob gronkowski's career. He went out in pretty epic gronk fashion way better in the playoffs. Then he was in the regular season. He'll the ad. Less than six hundred fifty yards in the regular season with three touchdowns when he comes out tonight. And. Doesn't dominate nobody dominated Julian Edelman was the closest to dominating that game. But. Gronk was fantastic. Six catches for eighty seven yards. But what an egg for Jared Goff. Just felt like the moment was too big for him. And it felt that way in the NFC championship game too. But he settled down. He settled down and had a great fourth quarter against the saints made some monster monster throws. But in the Cowboys game in the divisional round, he didn't really need to do much. They ran for two hundred and seventy five yards with girly and C J Anderson in the saints game shootout dome played much better than the second half, and especially the fourth quarter. And then the day just laid an egg took four sacks through a bunch of ducks could've been sacked seven or eight times. Missing open wide receivers getting nothing from his running game. What a bizarre thing by the way with Todd Gurley. There's gotta be some news coming out about Todd Gurley. Right. Mrs weeks sixteen and seventeen in the regular season. They get the by he balls out against the Cowboys. But C J Anderson actually out rushes him and gets two touchdowns his one then as four touches in the NFC championship game against the saints. Barely plays. Then doesn't show up on the injury report. Touches the ball on the first play from scrimmage for the Rams, then doesn't touch it. The rest of the first half, then finishes with ten carries would love to know what they did to him at halftime. But only gets the thirty five yards. I wonder if they'll be fine for fudging the injury report because he was clearly hurt and they were trying to do some sort of misdirection game to keep the pats off with game planning. But obviously they were gonna game plan for Todd Gurley. The Rams game plan. Isn't that tricky? Everybody knows what they do. They love to they play action. More than anybody in the league. They run their eleven personnel. More than any team in. The league though, they've been running twelve personnel. A little bit more recently the last four weeks, but they go single back. They like to feed the run to set up a play action. They run play action more than any team in the league. So whether it was going to be earlier or C J Anderson you knew where they were going to try to do but Jared Goff. Just didn't have it today. And they had no semblance of a running game Belichick takes away. The number one thing that you want to do which the Rams has run the football. And then do play action off of it. They had eighteen carries for sixty two yards. Three and a half yards of Kerry never broke a run for more than sixteen yards. It was an absolute clinic by Bill Belichick. But just the just a dud of a Super Bowl, right nothing. Interesting happened in the week leading up to the game. No, great trash talk. No, big news. No, big storylines. No big controversy out of the Roger Goodell press conference. No, great bulletin board. Material. Mediocre commercials. A few good ones. A critically universally panned halftime show and then the lowest scoring Super Bowl of all time in a season that saw record setting offense. We get the lowest scoring Super Bowl in NFL history. And we have a top three NFL offense in the number one scoring offense over the last two seasons in the Rams held the three points and their quarterback looked completely overwhelmed. And on the other side, people are gonna fall all over themselves. Complementing Brady he was average in this game. Made some big throws on the drive that clinched it undeniably, but two hundred sixty two yards. No touchdowns through a pick. Fumbled. At once took a sack passer rating of seventy one Brady wasn't good in this game. He was he was fine. He just got the win. And so people who do game analysis by wins and losses for the quarterback and say, that's all that matters will fall all over themselves complimenting him. But this was a game that was won by Julian balling out fantastic field position, but mostly coaching. Bill Belichick held the Rams to three points. And the game was too big for Jared Goff that was a complete dud of a Super Bowl, very disappointing. Given how great this season one was it was a great NFL season. And it sucks. We've got. Seven months. Until it starts up against seven months in two days September fifth is that first Thursday. When it seems like there's a report that it'll be bears Packers to open up the one hundredth season. So the Super Bowl champs will not open up the season next year, seven months until in two days until there's more football. And we go into the off season with a sour note from that game. Was that great defense or an awful game? Eight five five two one two four CBS Ross Tucker is gonna join us from Atlanta at some point. But the show is yours. It's Super Bowl postgame want to hear from you on your biggest thoughts and takeaways from the game, but may mainly whether or not you saw any beauty in that game. Some people will put lipstick on a pig and try to talk themselves into that being a great game. I'm not one of them. I thought that was a dud the season ended on a low note for me eight five five two one two four CBS. It's the Daime Parkin show CBS sports radio. You're in a five minute break..

"So in this case he had a little bit of head start. And he got trapped under Jeff Fisher and his offense coordinator with somebody rob Boris who's now the bills tied in coach. I don't know rob wars. Forgive me. I don't mean to offend him. You know, he's he wishes. But but again, this kid winds up with that a defensive base football team in a head coach does not like young quarterbacks destroyed Vince Young's career in my humble estimation. And Jared Goff when Owen seven that year is the starter of Jeff Fisher's Ramsey. Threw five touchdowns seven interceptions. And then, you know, the rest of the story. Sean McVeigh has been a godsend for this kid because I've believe this kid is pretty good. But I don't believe he's as good as Sean McVeigh vais has made him because he I'm not saying he's a product of the system he's a product of Sean McVay because to me Sean, McVay gave him his confidence gave him his charisma gave him swagger read, an interesting note the other night at that opening night, the big interview session that was on NFL network Jared Goff, obviously had a big audience around him. And I read that there are a number of times during goes for about an hour as you, well know it and. That there were a number of awkward pauses during the Jared Goff interview. Because people just ran out of things to ask so short smokin in his answers. And he's not very he's a nice kid. But he doesn't have a lot to say. So it would just fall flat and people be looking around. Like, you got a question. I don't have a question. Right. And it's just embarrassing because the Brady interview or whatever it just flows goes and people are still yelling questions when they say time time's up, right? Nineteen years. Of course, you bring. Hey, do I got it. But with this kid, he's he's again, he's a good kid. And yet is he of natural born leader is he the dynamic personality who's taken. Nope. He's not that guy. But that coaches the coaches got swagger the coach wore jeans the other night to opening night. Yes. Bell chick came in a coat and tie which shocking to me because I it's been a long time about his backpack. I agree. No. I'm not I'm with you. Here's Sean McVeigh. Everybody's got on the bottoms sweat bottoms to go with. This wet Nabis got on, gene. And he's got the gelled hair. And he's got the hot girlfriend all over Instagram, and he's cool. He's got high cool fach, and it's translated to his quarterback. So my favorite play of Peyton Manning's on that detail where he breaks down the championship games. He broke down. Jared goff's championship game at New Orleans in the play. He's six eight it on was the one where Jared goff's fiddling with his kneepads a little bit. And he's waiting and he's waiting than he has to start telling everybody what to do because they couldn't hear nice keep passing it up and down the line and Peyton Manning's making the point. Sean McVay is telling him right up to the clock. Let's do let's switch to this. Like he's talking him. All the way up to the end of the Loch. Let's do this and you're going to do this. And he dropped back in through an out pass for a big first down to brain and cooks. Well, he's just in his ear all the way series. How long how how long do you think Josh mcdaniels is in Tom Brady's ear not very long? If you remember. That when Tom Brady completed the past he's running up the sideline and he's telling Josh mcdaniels. I got it all saying any, but don't change the personnel miss. Keep what we got right here. That's Tom Brady. And the thing is what people don't understand is hard to do your job when someone is constantly talking to your ear. And that's what I was trying less. You need somebody to talk because Jared goff's been quoted as saying he calls the plate with such a thirty and confidence like. Here it. It sounds good ear by member. The big time out before the big third and seven play that basically ended the cowboy playoff game at the Rams and he called that rollout. Bootleg, and he just told him if Tyler Halabi's open you're going to give it to him..

"On not. No, I feel about Myles Garrett. I see because again just think about troops Trubisky right now. It's amazing. How? The bears hired Nagy in a way because of what Sean McVeigh did in year two with golf, right? You're two hundred but your one for year one for McVeigh what he turned Goff into was remarkable. Just absolutely remarkable. And McVeigh was coach of the year and golf was tremendous. But they got one and done in the playoffs by a team that had lost in the Super Bowl the previous year in Atlanta. Right. The defending NFC champ came out here and beat them and often look all that great in the game. And just like both just like most first-time quarterbacks in the playoffs. Lost by the way, Mahomes. One is first career start everybody else that was going in their first career starting to play offs lost this year, including Bisky it happens. More often than. I mean, Mahomes is the outlier of all the quarterbacks in this year's playoff field. The only ones to win their first career playoff starts out of all twelve those who had already previously made a playoff start to this year and those making their first playoff starts this year in their first career playoff starts, the only ones in this year's field that won their first Mahomes. Russell Wilson Tom Brady. That's it. The other nine loss the other nine so. Now. Here comes Maggie and Trubisky. Nagy may be the coach of the year next Saturday and week from Saturday at the NFL honors Trubisky gets one and done by the team that won the NFC last year. Over they won the Super Bowl but represented the NFC in the Super Bowl the previous year. It's kind of the same thing. So why can't Trubisky Nagy with that defense with a little bit? Of addition like less need, adding keep to leave did and Marcus Peters and Dominic and sue and trading Dante Fowler in the middle of the season and paying whoever needs to get paid. He paid cooks he paid girly. He paid. Donald why can't the bears be next year's Rams? At this point last year. We're talking about golf well look at wins. He got hurt. But he was going to be the MVP and his team on the Super Bowl Wentz. Over golf a hundred times over one hundred s that question now. It's not a hundred times over one hundred now. So let's that's why it truly is five years after you draft somebody avenue idea for poll now, okay? Based on this conversation quarterbacks. The Browns passed on recent. Romay drafted, okay. Which QB you by the most stock in ones they passed on Wentz Trubisky to Shawn Watson. And then the one that drafted Baker Mayfield. You could technically throw them a homes in there because they didn't take Mahomes first overall, which would have been a stunner anyone. No one was taking correct. I overall, correct. And he would run away with the poll beat everyone of the punch telling you man, we're sitting there in Philadelphia for the draft chiefs of moved up two tenths overall. It was this Shawn Watson. And no here comes Mahomes, and we were all like, okay. What is Andy Reid know that we're not all talking about. Well, the answer is a lot. Cliff Kingsbury now has a job in part. Because of what Mahomes is done, and what McVeigh has done edit altogether together in cliff Kingsbury is your coach the Zona cardinals. Getting set to take Marie. I. Are you into that? I'm into that sold. Now read the sponsor that's brought to you by truecar Z. It's not official..

There's better call Saul, Saul Goodman, attorney at Loma great there say Espanol it says on the on the mug is his college like American Samoa university or something. Yes. The rich Eisen show. Can I mean, I'm looking for? I shouldn't say because only one source told me close to the situation, I need it usually need a second one. I went to north western I should know better person familiar with league inter work. Yeah. Says that the the the legal expert who has helped form the brief was last seen at a cinnabon at a mall in Omaha Nebraska. Do I delegate Feldman on the phone from New Orleans to see if from to my buddy buddy who rose law? Yeah. That two lane university of find out. I don't know if we'd be able to hear him under the laughter. It's what a joke, but I kind of don't wanna make light of it. Because people are really pissed and interestingly enough. The actor Wendell Pierce play bunk on the wire who's been on this program to pound his chest on the phone as well as in person in the history of the rich Eisen show about his beloved New Orleans. Saints sent out a brilliant tweet with a mean of him as bunk shaking his head. I believe it McNulty from the wire it just said the NFL just shake him shaking his head. Apparently, he reached out to one of our former show bookers who he had in his phone to say I wanna call in today. To talk. And he wants to I guess give more voice to the mean that were showing on the screen right now that David Simon who created the wire re tweeted pretty good. And he he wants to come on, and and vent imagine. So we will give them that platform in about fifteen minutes time, this was an unscheduled appearance for Wendell Pierce scheduled to appear on the program. Andrew Whitworth who I'm sure would love to turn this page because. Day as I said also on yesterday showed Rams deserve to go to the Super Bowl. I know that they got the benefit of a huge call. They settled for field goal. Unbelievably Sean McVeigh finally took his foot off the gas pedal for the first time that I can remember since taking over the reins of of the gigging in here in Los Angeles. They settled for field goal to tie the game at twenty as opposed to go up by four on fourth and inches. That would have been a moot point had the flag come out for Jared. Goff's facemask they'd have been I down your assuming three rolling of the CJ Anderson bowling ball's would have got him in the end zone at least not a fourth Todd Gurley. Or right now, the thing we'll talk about with Andrew Whitworth. So that would have meant. That. Yeah. Drew Brees would have been throwing the ball to try and get in the end zone towards the end of the game. It's another thing. We haven't discussed saints fans upset that they could have run the clock out. Well, guess what? You wouldn't have had the opportunity to run the clock out. If the Rams actually scored the touchdown as opposed to settling for field goal. If while we're all assuming a result. Of a non coal. By the way, I'm just gonna tell Frank J d'amico junior. Do not call me as a witness. Don't depose me. Frank. So Andrew Whitworth will be on the program. Frank Kelly Endo will show up in studio. Our number two. All right. I just I just sit back and laugh, and he's the best few people make me laugh like Frank Kallio and mobile. Quotas. I do believe he's got a Sean McVeigh. Well, I mean because you know, McVeigh's not far off from Gruden now. He's just like one shade away from Gruden, you know, this Gruden turn it up to eleven McVeigh's tenors grooten McVay turns it up to eleven they have the same. Cadence. They've got the same one shade shy of Gruden. That's a good thing. Shade Gruden is not a bad fantasy name..

"All right. Let's get to the other game yesterday ram saints again. It was the first time in NFL history. We had to overtime games in the postseason on the same day. Rams saints very loud in the Superdome. But you can't blame the noise for this early pick that Jared Goff throws this one Dan is clearly on Todd Gurley. Who had a very rough day. I thought Jared Goff handled the environment incredibly well, the Gurley was the guy that struggled this pick in early in this moment gives this crowd just absolute juice in he struggled throughout the gang. He moment though, they held him to a field goal there. So it's only six nothing when briefs those touchdown to Gary Griffin. So it's thirteen nothing. The saints are in control, but they didn't put the game away in that first quarter when they had opportunities to and then how about Sean McVeigh on this down fake. Biggest guts in the league. So to speak down you and he throws that that to deepen Tabacchi through to any short in the purse down when he catches this ball because they make the tackle right here. I mean, it's unbelievable. So the gut to by John McBain bread of deep in his own territory. And it sets up this grueling again, Dan withdraw we saw the first one. And we see it again guy was reliable pass catcher out of the backfield. I've credit Sean McVay going. You know, what it's not your day sit down we'll ride CJ and the Rams get on the board with a field goal there. And then it's golfer. Brandin cooks about that bat. You can't throw it any better. Now, it handed to them clearly settling into this game as it went on and he would start to cook. And there's girly certainly looking healthy wrecks on that touch on there. So thirteen ten game at half time. They've weathered the storm third quarter. Saint third goal. It's their guy Tatum has smart design last week. They ran a screen like this. But a double move and this actually run the stream lead lockers tasted Hofer touch on probably use the too much but utilizes kind of capitalizes opportunity. So they have the advantage. But this is where Jared Goff this getting it done that one's obviously wide open. I think I could have thrown that one for a touchdown. But here comes a great play by gov. Fourth quarter. Same score. They're down three. He's in trouble. And watching find Jerrell ever some big story this game getting outside of the pocket creating extra time, and then finding Gerald Everett. He did an awesome job of breaking away from men coverage secure the cat secure the vault. You get a bunch of yards at it on after that cat that sets up this big moment here on the third and short CJ. Anderson is stuff wrecks. Were. You surprised McVay kick the field still Luli at that? For sure. This guy. I thought for sure they were gonna go floated I Dan you surprise loan away because he'd been aggressive all year. And so the game is tired on the ensuing possession. They just throw it up in the air about the defense Rex joined her please highpoint the football on this is. And so the saints are set up an outpost. Here's the play. You're gonna talk about until the end of time the passes intended for Tommy Lewis that's macelroy Coleman drills him helmet to helmet interference call anything and everything you want. No flag is thrown by. Now, you know that we're going to talk about it extensively in a moment saints or forced to settle for a field goal. But they leave time on the clock and give credit to Jared Goff. Jared Goff stool had to make the plays. And Dan he did mid a bunch of on third down late in the game against pressure finds Robert woods on an optional. Perfect. Throw grams would use their final timeout and bring out Greg's Greg wrecks. How about the guts of sir line from forty? No, hey, you what not to pro kicker. Right. They're not every team has them. We had to overtime tied at twenty three. And so he's the coin toss. I was talking about Brees gets the ball. I he's supposed to win the game Alabama out the pressure. Awesome job by Fowler. The midseason acquisition. He comes inside gets his hand on the ball on breezes. Arm goes up in the air..

"Peyton already won a Super Bowl. Sean McVeigh's thirty two we assume that he'll win one at some point very, very young. We all know how great Bill bell check as with five Super Bowls. Andy Reid is the guy with out the Super Bowl championship. We talked about it earlier this week arguably the best coach in NFL history without a Super Bowl. So there's a lot of pressure on him. But I think his his play design is so exquisite, and he's got all the toys base an excellent coach. I mean, the only thing he doesn't have on his resume is the Super Bowl they'd after. And he's only got one appearance and they lost the Bill Belichick. But I think it's an intriguing match-up because it's of the older coaches in the league, it's kind of cool to see that. When you get Sean McVay thirty two and everybody's hiring coaches in their thirties that Sunday at six forty. We're going to see a sixty six year old guy with five Super Bowl championships. And an Andy Reid across the way who sixty looks a little bit older looks like Wilford Brindley looks like your Granddad and he'll be coaching the chiefs. That's kind of a good good. Call for the good guy for the old guys. And that's what Tom Keegan who were about. Dr columnist wrote about the their rivalry or friendly, foes is wells it in in the paper today. So it is an interesting match up. I just don't see how you could look at it and say advantage Andy Reid because bell checks the experience and the just the the track record of ballot check. Yeah. I mean, the guy is is the best coach of the Super Bowl right now. If you want to start breaking into coordinators if you've got Josh mcdaniels who's extremely well respected as the offensive coordinator. Andy Reid essentially is the offense coordinator for the chiefs Eric by enemy has the title. And at some point he'll be head coaches. Well, but right now, Andy Reid is a guy. I don't know as he talked to China McVay recently. If he know Sean McVay, if he can at least bell, Sean McVay, if he knows how old John if they is then he'll get a job. It's that's the only the only way you get one. Now is it's the most important thing in life is knowing Sean McVay. In fact, I think the presidential candidates are going to want to have Sean McVay is part of the team. He's not even old enough to be president. We'll do see Wade Phillips Sunwest. Great and Wade Phillips goes yes. He knows John McVay very very well. So if you need a coach Ed coach anywhere he knows. He knows McVay. Really? Well, yeah. Exactly. That's it. You know, Sean, McVay you you get a coaching job at some point. So so it's Andy Reid against the patriots defense, and that becomes innocence. Andy Reid against Bill Belichick. I mean, I know Bryant flurries is the defacto defensive coordinator. He doesn't have Slagle head coach of Miami Dolphins at the same time. So it's really any result fence against Bill checks defense. That's going to be a great match up on Sunday. Conversely, Josh mcdaniels against Bob something the defensive coordinator of the chiefs. That's an. Intriguing matchup as well. But certainly when Bill bell checks on the sideline he's the better coach too. But he wasn't in the Super Bowl last year against Doug Peterson. Now he wasn't coke game. You you would say bell. Check advantage there. Pre-game? You always gotta give bell. Check by Zana clock on Sunday. We may be scratching I head. If he does something along the lines of not playing more might not just not necessary. We're gonna go with different players other than our next season Hoyer. Yeah. But the hell with this guy Brady's not all that good going to take a quick time out. We come back. We'll be joined by Tom Keegan our sports columnist who is in Kansas City. Dow's. Yes, if they know the plays that events fill you if Jared Goff makes five big throws five big plays. They'll win the game. If the saints can win the ball in game one hundred fifty yards rushing Dillwyn. How's that? That's specific. That's what I wanted to hear. At least like watch the game. It was show. He's already made his pick. He wasted. No time. He's got the saints in this one Plachy you're leading leading. It's over it's over. It's over Spain. You know, it's. James? You got Sarah. I got the cell. The who you got drew Brees in the move on everything you guys just said about an early season matchup and how it plays out in the conference championship game. Let's see you stand by that for even two minutes of the patriots teeth. We six in New England. It was a shootout Brady was near perfect. This game Mahomes came strap to have some turnovers. Let a second comeback Kalki chick at the gun. Forty three forty New England so much happened since then that the patriots now have somehow become a feisty overlooked kin brother underdog, Frank speaking up is this rematch bigger advantage for Bill chick and the pats or Mahomes and the chiefs. Well, I think the fact that the homes got to see the patriots one time ready. And remember that game that they played the first time in New England in the second half. He was nine thirteen with four touchdowns. That's how good he was. But I'll say this about Bill Belichick over his career as a. Offensive coordinator or a head coach when he goes up against the team with the number one in the playoffs. He's five and one. So he has a way of coming up with really confused somebody especially young quarterback like Patrick wrong that Frank sarahspain. Same question. Yeah. I think it's better from homes on the chiefs because that game was in Foxborough where the pats are at their best and it came down to a final score. And as an as Frank said Mahomes was on fire second half. This is a game at Arrowhead. The patriots are a completely different team on the road three and five on the road this year. They average eleven fewer points per game on the road and Tom Brady has gone two more Super Bowls than he is played in road playoff games. This is not a guy who has had to on road very often in order to succeed. I think it's a totally different team. And if you did as well as you did in Foxborough against them that. Nation Sarah Tim Keller show, but he got us. Don't wanna make all my answers about the Cowboys today. But the patriots the same road record of the Cowboys this year three and five that's got a New England. Comment but beyond that first game. I do think health the chiefs, I think both I think a couple of losses helped the chiefs with that one in particular, they saw in the second half that I know Bill check is famous for he's gonna take somebody away. He couldn't take tyreek hill away. You can't take tyreek hill away. He will make big plays, and he'll make enough for your expect your one difference maker for this game bubble others killed him. Absolutely seem almost insulted that I ask why would you? Why would you all this Bill? Plush tyreek hill for you as well. No, no. It's the patriots secondary. It's the best secondary deep ball in the NFL, accordion Gilmore Jacksonville. They will this'll be the difference in the game Mahomed again patriots defense seventy its deep ball is almost unbreakable. So your answer maybe would be the patriots can prove their secondary is up to the task maybe picks off the home once twice. That's..

I thought he did at the end like when we were talking about a twenty three fifteen right up to that point. I thought he had played it relatively conservative. But right there. Yeah. I thought so I was kind of stunned. They were I could go back on my Twitter because I was live tweeting the damn thing. And there were a couple of times where I was surprised that McVeigh did what he did. I felt that the Rams when you look at the game as a whole especially in the beginning. Because people were like, wow, what's going on the ramp? I two drives they use to fill goals. But I said don't look. The field goals. Look at the numbers of of what's going on ranch. Control the clock. The Cowboys have any shot because they didn't have the ball. They're on the sideline. If it wasn't for that fifteen yard penalty by Marcus Peters over there. Being the knucklehead that's really got the touchdown by Amari Cooper on at drive. The Rams dominated defensively for pretty much the entire game, George and. Yeah, I just thought that the Rams crew they scored on their first four positions available. Touchdown touchdown is over. It's a right. Yeah. That's what it was. There were times as I'm watching that game in the second half early in the second half. They settle for a field goal, which I thought surprise it. Because it's just not what they've done or what we've been accustomed to watching augury with them. But you know, in retrospect as we talked about it during purgatory he does Shawn knew that points would potentially be at a premium in this game. Because if the game plan didn't work and Dallas fence was able to overcome some of those issues, then it would be a tight game. Points needed to be scored regardless of how they were scored. But late in the game with a C J Anderson when he plunged it in when he punched it in that to me was Sean McVay being Sean McVay and was also knowing that his defense was dominant day. Yeah. Dominant like like dominant to a point where you just knew the. Yes, it's different now. Okay. It's not the regular season. Ran it is the playoff Rams. And that defense to me Shoghi. What like I said this where there peaking at the right time. I've been saying it all year long. They're playing the defense the way it was opposed to play just took them nineteen weeks. Yeah. Exactly. It just you know, there are a lot of things that certainly weren't play. There's a couple of things I want to get you in regards to the game. There were a lot of Twitter coaches. You know when you're watching the game, and you've got Twitter chair core. Yeah. A lotta armchair quarterback. Particularly about some of the stuff McVeigh did. So we'll get to that. Plus the Lakers this demoralizing loss. What does it mean? Big picture. There are a lot of layers to this including how some of these young guys may. Maybe in some trouble. We'll get to that. In just a moment here. So data show. Kirk Morrison hanging out ESPN LA sedan Joe here on ESPN LA. More. So than hanging out with us. Yeah. Robert woods, by the way, supposed to join us at four o'clock, Robert woods a quiet game. But yet effective. Yeah. You know what? I mean. Like one of those games where it's quiet, but yet effective. Well, I would agree. He may catch us. Yeah. He made no Gerry Goffin throw a touchdown pass. So people would think like, wow what what's going on? They jeer golf the bad game. You have a good game. He didn't didn't turn the ball over which is one..

"FM precip regular seasons under Sean McVeigh. He's ready to take the next step was a great year force being able to win the division. Very fortunate to be able to do that again. But I think there's a there's a confidence that's been earned where there's an expectation of. We have a lot of respect for the Dallas Cowboys, but we expect to win this game after losing in the wildcard round at home a season ago. Cowboys finally got off the deck with last week's home win over the Seahawks. Dak Prescott continues to tune out. The Dow doubted some never really cared about care too much about looking into. I mean, obviously, I know the only thing that matters is is what I do and what I can do to to get better. That's just being around these guys, my teammates and all that. "We'll be playing the game after the Rams take care of business against boys. Right. Well, why do they have a sad song today? Today. Are you still talking? Sean McVeigh has got the Midas touch when it comes to get. Another guy's jobs. We saw floor spend some time with Sean McVeigh. He's now the head coach in Green Bay gets coach Aaron Rodgers pretty good gig. Now, we find out. Sean. Viewed Sean McVay a couple times, I'm still I'm still here. I need a head coaching job. But there's another guy that has his heights our sights set on a head coaching job. Zack taylor. Who is the Rams quarterback? Coach right now is reportedly the target of the Cincinnati Bengals who would replace Marvin Lewis Zack Taylor is another one of those guys that fits ofensive young McVay adjacent head coach now or potential Cincinnati Bingol thing to do though visit have bingles have really I mean, more of a Lewis was a good hit for them. But they haven't had a good quarterback. I mean, a good head coaching hit since they went to the Super Bowl like four's, Greg. I mean, every coach that they've get same watch went to the Super Bowl right force was. Both win didn't they? Yeah. Because they have one loss to the they both lost in the Niners. But different sound was the last one. Yeah. So when you start to look at it, this is like a this is certainly a copycat league. Here's a quarterback coach that essentially to me in a ca- tell me whatever they want to he's not coaching quarterbacks. He's in a room with them is this at the Kingsbury thing all over again. Kevin Sunlen was doing totally it. So Kingsbury ish. Verb. They. They they're wanting something that looks like smells like talk like walk like look all that show McVeigh the he started five years old. He was the offense coordinator at the university of Cincinnati for short stint fair. I mean, come on doesn't seem like a resume to become an NFL head coach much like kings, berries, res- get in one of the things the same thing that I would question as I questioned it with show McVay when he took over the job. He's too young. Will they respect him and have to think exact Taylor's position, he's young or Cincinnati Bengals all those personalities Burr fix all these type of dudes may what they do with that do. So how did Sean McVay do it? How did Sean because respective all this Qassam McVay had already learned from Washington being around grooten 's watching some of the bad situations that they put themselves in not only on that on top of that. Also understanding his family had been in it for while he has Granddad. It was a general manager. Also brings in way Phillips that everybody in the league loves he got it. Right. He hired the right staff to right people designer his mother's an interior designer, according to Adam Schefter. So when you package all up and put that together, you know, peace you thing they started winning right away. And they started winning right away. Cincinnati angle start winning right away. If you're winning people are gonna listen. Who didn't want to win you walk in with Jared Goff, who's a number one overall pick and you walk in with Andy Dalton has a ton of experience became figure how to win on the prime time game. You know, a little bit different plus the expectations. Right. So the expectation for Sean McVeigh was so low takes ticket for the rounds for solo because of the last season Jeff Fisher. So that you didn't have the pressure to perform right away. So you wear loud to experiment, you're allowed to grow. And so the the way that you're covered makes a huge difference. Because now you go from, you know, well, you're young and the Rams are offering Jerry Goff might not be in the league, no sonoma's expecting thing. And when you start winning anyone gets behind you and help uplift you and that to me makes it a lot easier to perform as opposed to someone like Jon Gruden where the expectations are higher because one that's the team that something could have been in. It's in a Super Bowl just three seasons ago. Get an established QB you're Jon Gruden you're on TV. You've won a chip. So you have expectations and doesn't work out. There's. Key. You know, the connective between the coaching staffs and who worked for who who give me a guy that was a member of a tree that went on to be really successful in his own, right?.

"Certainly changed. A re that when I get my Tyrone broken telephone, Sean McVeigh, you might become a head coach in the NFL. We'll explain next. Travis. Yes. Happy birthday. No longer with those anymore, but certainly Beeri no one of the greatest of all time Clarence Clemens. The big man on the sax for these street band instructing. He would have been seventy seven years old today because not in a rundown clearance, Clemens seventy. He checked out. That's kind of where are we? Now. What's the over under between early? And like, okay. He got about where we talking seventy everybody. Man. I'm going to one thirty. I don't think that's true. The NFL you could cut that off by about two-thirds. Is it seventy five seventy eight. I like when I hear like seventy eight. I'm like, okay. You had to go run. Yeah. If I hear sixties anything, dude, it shouldn't count the numbers, man. Just let it happen when it happened. But when you hear, you know, they pathway of fifty you like someone wrong, but you hear so many going. Okay. Yeah. Yes. Still young to me seventy eight. Yeah. Man. All right. I'm eighty I just want to be able to move his need to be able to move once. I'm stuck it. I want out. I want to be able to walk around it walk. What that's what I'm saying. If I can walk them good. But the second I can't walk. I don't wanna be here anymore. Hey, yeah. No bay home me. No, I don't wanna do that. So another branch on the Triki another branch on the tree of Sean McVeigh's burgeoning coaching tree. It's interested in Matt leflore was the first guy to go. Then he he left last year. And now he's the head coaching Green Bay. Now, we're finding out that we're going to get another one that the Bengals are targeting Rams quarterback. Coach Zack Taylor as their head coach in Cincinnati. Who'd replace Marvin Lewis, again, young guy, offensive minded guys activities thirty five years old and Sean McVay. Everybody's looking for a clone of the Rams coach. Yeah. Everybody is. But it's so funny everybody everybody's saying, oh, Sean McVeigh. Did this McVeigh did that? Yeah. Sean McVeigh did he him unless neat went out in a higher way Phillips? They went out and acquired some players, but they also have players already here. There were high draft picks that were good football player. There's that needed a head coach that could come in and do some things, and I certainly get it. I understand when you have successful coaches on your staff when you win something. That's when they plucked the coaches due to division titles knockout. Oh, no, absolutely. Not raining coach of the year. Ted count went on to count two dozen. You have won anything you want. When coaches leave like the New England Patriots. They went championships like the Seattle Seahawks was Seattle left. I mean one they lost Gus, Bradley. What's my guy down in? Roane? No, my guy in Atlanta. Dan quinn. Yeah. They you lose coaches when you win championships. You lose coaches. Maybe it's changed. Maybe it changed. Now that if you win the division. That's all they're really bad isn't if you look if you young, and you look the part, and you look a certain way key. But I don't think that can be understated that if you look a certain way, if you kinda sort of fit the same general physical characteristics on what I'd done. He I'm not arguing that opportunity to be the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals after one year of basically coaching Jair golf, but not really coach until it takes -actly. He's not coaching Jere God and cliff Kingsbury get credit for..

"Stick to your poop takes. A few thoughts. I always did extremely well. Which fisher? Look at the Rams Jeff Fisher look at the Rams with Sean McVeigh. And then tell me that it's all about the players and the coach is not make any difference at all. A guy that I did not do. Well with was Wade Phillips. He I got into it when he was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills. When we talk about Doug Flutie and Rob Johnson. I didn't get in. I didn't do well with him. But I'm saying the guy is genius. He's a defensive genius. He's a brilliant coordinator. Literally, a brilliant coordinator guy seventy-one it can still relate to today's game. Today's young players and he's done a great job. Not a great head coach, Gregg, coordinator, brilliant, defensive mind incredulous, Sean McVeigh for bringing that guy in understanding that so no, I don't agree with that. Like, I said stick to the poop takes Rex. On war. Anybody over the age of fifteen who drinks fireball? That you have to be twenty one to drink fireball. That fireball a couple times both times desperation once when I was in some neighborhood, really sketchy neighborhood for one of the kids pace ballgames wanna have taken over the edge off there were no bars nearby. There was one liquor store found a little bit of a fireball. Yeah. That beautiful cinnamon glorious cinnamon bite. Steph kinda reminds me of like hurricanes candy goes down like like some kids. "So he had a better chance of getting some guys Crabtree. And those guys that ended up there at Texas Tech where you know, Texas and Texas am specifically kind of made a big a big resurgence under Johnny Menzel in those guys when he was. There. So. That to me is kind of a hard pill to swallow that I guess you could explain that away. But the reality is what teams want in the NFL. Now's the next Sean McVeigh. They want the guy who's the offensive genius. But here's the thing as much as I respect cliff Kingsbury, and I respect them a ton. You know what I mean game respects game? But. So stupid veggie tray J like McVeigh would say so as much as I respect that. He's not Sean McVeigh like Sean McVay legitimately was born into the NFL, you know, how bane in Batman the dark Knight returns. Or whatever says you merely adopted the dark, I was bored in it. Right. Sean McVeigh can say like cliff Kingsbury, you merely adopted the NFL I was born in it. My granddaddy was Bill Walsh is GM. I legitimately was the get back guy for Keyshawn Johnson on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Jon Gruden. I was and worked my way through the ranks with Jay Gruden at Washington. Ryan Clark called me the doogie howser of coaching when I got hired with the Rams, and he's proven all that out. Clinton. Good like cliff had a Cup of coffee in the NFL as a quarterback backed up Tom Brady for a minute, right? Was a hell of a college quarterback. And was a hell of a no see in college. So he's got that resume the head coaching thing. But as much as I think that cliff Kingsbury deserves to get head coaching looks. I would caution any team on the he's the next Sean McVeigh because there's only one of those and you're lucky to have him here. However. If you're cliff Kingsbury, Mike, I know you're at USC guy if either the jets or the cardinals come calling and you get to pick darnold the Rosen like you're gone. That's it's not even a debate. It depends man. I mean watch. Of course, you go with the NFL. There's good money in college football, also. But let's keep it real. It all depends on what this coach wants. What does I don't like if you have the chance to coach darnold arose? And you get that you're gonna get a long leash if you're cliff Kingsbury 'cause you got a young quarterback. So you're going to have the ability to go for what at least three or four years potentially with those guys as long as they keep showing some growth, you don't look he can stay at USC for a long time if he wants, but you know, you got guys I ki- saying a couple of weeks ago before we went on vacation, you if clay gets fired..
NFL playoff picture: Chiefs’ loss against the Rams helps the Patriots in the race for the AFC’s top seed
"So Nick after you saw what you saw from both teams offensively last night in the Rams and the chiefs can the patriots keep pace with that type of offense St. think not the patriots we've seen through ten weeks now with the patriots won't turn the ball over the way both teams Dade yesterday. They won't commit a dozen first-half penalties or close to it. The way the chiefs did yesterday, they're not going to beat themselves. But you looked at just the overwhelming offense of talent take the quarterbacks out of it and Brady last month hadn't been great take him out. Let's Brady come the playoffs going to be awesome with lesser grunk with Josh Gordon that still is not yet seemingly fully on the same page with Brady you look at what the saints have what the Rams have what the chiefs have what the Steelers have even and you say as far as talent. Perspective. The patriots are playing Tom Brady's stacked deck against him. And so I mean, I wouldn't count the patriots out in any scenario because they're so good at the details. But as far as trying to win a shootout, I know they did against cancer the earlier in the year. I was with gronk little healthier that was with the team playing a little bit better. I don't think they can keep up with the top flight offenses in the league as we're seeing them right now, we always do this in football is not a tale of the take. You look at the pats. How they play you watch the game last night. You'll be like, wow. How are they going to keep up this going to do the pets have started seven and three in the last ten years? They've done that half the time, but they've only made it to the Super Bowl with a by. So if they were to play one of these teams, and they had a bye, you're not gonna see Tareq you'll have two hundred yards that does not going to happen to a Bill Belichick team. So they might go score some points. They might build move the ball. But you're not gonna have one guy Bill to dominate the game. So in seeing this what? Say it's not about the offense. Do Bill Chitwood do something about Kansas City, entire healed. Now would Kelsey heard him would a healthy. Sammy Watkins Bill to hurt them. They have so many talented players on both side the way the Rams played patients. Couldn't do anything with that Jared Goff played that way in the Super Bowl. The patriots wooden goes, Tom because there's not one thing that they would build a take away from them was Bill bell. Check is going to try to do. The thing about is. It's not a matter who's the best right now. We know the patriots are going to get better. It's predictable. They're always better as the season goes on. So now in these last six games will they go five and one will they go six to build a get either that number two seater that number one seat that is the key to them. They will keep evolving keep getting better. Let's see how the Rams how they respond to this by a right? It's still a very very young team. I do like how they responded after the law. Us to New Orleans how they've come back and how Sean McVeigh has replaced the overall productivity of Cooper Cup. So those things I think are very very positive going forward. But the patriots they will not be the same team in January that they are today..
Vikings know the stakes against undefeated Rams: 'It's very big'
"Three undefeated teams left in the NFL and the Rams are one of them off to a hot start as we all thought. But and this is a big, but the teams they've beaten have a combined one eight record this season. So a true test Thursday night against the Vikings seems to be what this team needs Rams head coach, Sean McVeigh says Minnesota will provide a great challenge coach. What's the biggest challenge at the Vikings defense presents this high-powered Rams offense, come Thursday night. Things that I like about the Vikings defense, talented, that's that's the first component to they've got a variety of different pressures in different looks that incorporate and the third than they do really well disguised.

Jarvis Landry has lobbied Cleveland Browns to trade for Odell Beckham Jr.
"That in the near future I've had a bit of dialogue, with Aaron and we're hopeful we get something done that for a Rams. Head coach. Sean McVeigh via Gary Klein of, the, LA times the deadline August seventh. Today Scott till two pm today to report to camp in. Order to make this season count towards free agency, but by all accounts these two, sides are very very far apart in contract. Talks just as they were last year in Foxborough the New England Patriots let go third year wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell a guy Who played a starring role in the team's twenty, eight three comeback, come back from down Twenty-eight three against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl fifty one but he's had knee. Problems for the past, year missed all the two, thousand seventeen season spent a lot of time this off season at the team's, facility trying to, rehab that knee the knee examined again. On July twenty third It hasn't been practicing and training camp so the patriots cut them loose which means no Malcolm Mitchell no Julian element for, the first four games of the season wide receiver. Room still, interesting, Chris HOGAN Phillip door set Cordeiro Patterson Eric decker Kenny bread. Couple of young guys but that room will not. Include Malcolm Mitchell who is trying to author. Quite the comeback after missing all of last year and a player who will always go down and. Patriots lower for what he did in that, Super Bowl, comeback against the Atlanta Falcons speaking of wide. Receivers Odell Beckham junior we talked about his contract standoff with the New York Giants one that I saw described, this morning. As friendly he's gonna play for the giants this, year it's unlikely that, Beckham's going, to be playing for anybody else in two thousand, eighteen or twenty nineteen but according to one of his closest friends he's quote definitely interested in playing for another NFL team that friend is Jarvis Landry new acquisition this off. Season The, Cleveland Browns Landry and Beckham played with each other at LSU. Landry told Cleveland dot com of things like that. Are able to happen in the team can. Make it happen then why not he definitely would be up for it he would be according to. Mary Kay cabinet of Cleveland dot com Landry, indicated the, Beckham one of his best friends in the. League has told him he'd wanna play for the Browns And on his part Landry says they've had quote talks Good too excited Beckham is still under contract. For the giants with the giants for this coming season he's in training camp besides the negotiating Odell Beckham junior's a very good bad. To be a New York giant, in two thousand nineteen but if you're a Browns fan I guess you can dream by the way more from Jarvis Landry on the quarterback situation with the Cleveland Browns Baker. Best from NFL training camps 2018
"Next afternoons on ESPN LA Rams on the field for the first day of training camp. Two thousand eighteen here at UC Irvine and teams are opening up. All across the country were the Rams Kirk. They play a game. They have first preseason game two weeks from today in Baltimore against the ravens. So we're going to be into it fast. This is the first day at camp, but I mean, you better get up to speed pretty quickly because there's going to be games before you know it. Yeah, I and I have a joint practice next week in Baltimore Baltimore's will, but it's it's fast. Actually, two weeks from today is the first game for the Rams one week from today is actually the first preseason game between the bears and ravens. So if football is the on your appetite, trust me, you're going to get a lot of it, but it's a, it's here in this coming fast right now is practice over already. Are they there on the left side team? Jon? Okay, everybody. I remember that part of practice. It looks real chill and call. Yeah, real call. I read something today about the special teams unit that the for the first time in. NFL history. All four of the Rams specialists made the Pro Bowl. Jake mcquaid the long snappers. Johnny Hecker. Yes, Greg's arline Ferro Cooper, all four of them made the Pro Bowl, and and you know, you and I talk about it every week in and out, but that that was, you know, Todd girlies this Jared goff's, that Aaron Donald was doing what he was doing an offense and defense and Wade Phillips in Sean McVay fact of the matter is that group of guys that special teams group bones fossil in the job that he does with those guys. It gave them such a massive advantage weakened in week at they're blocking punts. They were. They were blocking extra points, everything about them, blocking field goals on special teams was above the line by a mile. Yeah. I mean, that was what to me gave. I think, Jared, also the confidence to that Sean McVeigh had to instill in him that, hey, it's okay, we, we got one of the best punters in the game. He's gonna, pin them deep and hopefully our defense and get a stop and think. That's something that the Rams can rely on this year even more so because of the way that they're special teams played a year ago that even this year now you can kind of play this a certain situations, hey, we can go take a shot deep down the field here because sometimes you gotta sit plays up. You gotta go attack in certain areas. You know, third and twelve or second and twelve fellows. We've got to go take a shot here and if we don't get the shot, if we don't get it or you know, we don't convert on third now it's okay to punt. I, it's okay. I know one of my guys always talked to former quarterback and says, Kirk, remember, always every series must intimate kick right? Always whether it's a punt a field goal point after everything has to end with the kick. So it's okay to have those punts. But when you have a guy like Hecker, who can actually in a game in which the Rams can now play that type of game in terms of, hey, this is going to be a field position game. We're not going to score a lot of points. You're going to need a guy like Hecker and he showed that last year in some situations where he's been lights out inside the twenty. You name it that that's his game and and Greg's airline, assuming he's healthy, right? I mean everything inside of fifty yards automatic. Well, to me, he's the one that won the Dallas cowboy game. Yeah. When. Few goes, you know, they couldn't really convert and get in the end zone as much as they want it. But you talk about a guy who was on and really that was the game that really that caught everyone's attention like, okay, this thing looks for real..
