Two Seattle Seahawks earn Player of the Week honors after dominant Week 1 win

"Maybe, the most impressive team of the day was Seattle. Russell Wilson was thirty one of thirty, five, Oh my God for three, hundred, twenty, two, yards, four touchdowns no picks. That's ridiculous. Thirty one of thirty five metcalf picked up where he left off big day and they destroyed Atlanta and and I think that NFC west is just going to be fascinating all year long Seattle's not going to have a home field advantage. You're not GonNa have that twelfth man thing they got going out there but man, they're they're good and they're a veteran team I I think Seattle. Really is going to be a very difficult to deal with this year that quarterback may be in the prime of his career right now what year nine for him it is e was so special in that game. He was so good. It's just he's. Become. So, much fun to watch play fast the operates and how he's really gotten such a feel for the game. Become what Sean mcvay would call an extension of the offensive coordinator He's in control. It was also game that Matt Ryan threw for four, hundred, fifty they were down I mean, Julio Jones, at Fifty Ridley at one, hundred, thirty gauge to gauge at and fourteen. They, Have Hayden hearst they IRV Smith I think Atlantic could be good. Defense has been a problem for a while which is weird because it's Dan Quinn to think about that. which was Laying the first coordinator when the seahawks became. Great. Exactly.

"Sunday night football saw the rams hold off the cowboys twenty, two seventeen open up noon, the brand new s-o-f-i stadium the late offensive pass interference call on Michael Gallup costing dowse chance to tie or possibly win. The game has often is a very energetic Sean mcvay. Great job by the team you know to be able to get the win. That's obviously what we wanted to be able to get done. Thought. "Carol is like. On twitter! You don't see hawks twitter. They have such a love hate relationship with Carol, and it's amazing, because all he does is produce winters. Look, you want Credit Russell Wilson. That's fine, but the seahawks Russell Wilson in. They went to the playoffs without him. You know this was a team that. The beast quake year they beat the. Making of Sean Payton, but like this is yeah, it was twenty twelve so p cayrol since he has been in Seattle, he went to the playoffs and twenty ten, so he had to quit or one without Russell Wilson, anyway to super bowls, and the seahawks are good every year when people don't expect them to be good, I, remember. Twenty eighteen people are like this seems to be horrible. They get to the playoffs twenty, one thousand nine. They may be will win nine games. They went eleven games, so there's just they keep beating. Whatever odds people throw in their face and I just don't understand all the hate against Pete Carroll. The guy went to what eight seven or eight. Playoff appearances in the past decade also. He quietly was twenty seven and twenty one with the with the Patriots Yup, and they ran them out of town, and that's how going to USC like he was a a fine coach. The badgers I don't know why they hated him. Say watching gets gloss over because people, ballot takes six and ten one year with the jets. Yeah. I mean like Pete Carroll is the most energetic sixty eight year old man on the planet, and he went to the postseason, two or three years at the Patriots yeah he's been. His his twenty playoff games. He's coached. That is a ton back-to-back Suba appearances. Nearly a dynasty, going the four years from two thousand, twelve through two, thousand and fifteen are those seahawks. Teams were freaking awesome now. Will they do feel like? It's some point with Carol. There might be like. The rugby pulled out the other shoe drops. Did they have Russell? Wilson so navy. It made it keeping magic seasons. Now you sound like seahawks. Twitter everybody gets just keeps waiting for other shoe to fall, and it never falls. They just keep. And the other part and this is where Khashawah had Pete Carroll. In eighth spot and I think that's ridiculous. I felt like Shawn's rankings were good, except where he put the NFC west coaches because. He has Kyle Shanahan shows list. If you found a millennial and said, can you make a list of NFL? Coaches top tentative? Okay, this is who they would make. The listen like Sean Payton. Cal Five Sean mcvay six, and then like P.. Caroline Doug Peterson guys was super bowls. In the last six eight years. Blow well yet if he has kyle Shanahan five I think kyle. Shanahan and he's barely the third best coach in division you know. Carol mcvay ahead of him. He can't be the fifth best coach he's. Division either not even close not even close p Carroll. Yes, so Carol at three which I would actually be interested because I think if you told people to make a list I think Pete Care would have the biggest. Differences. SLOT DIFFERENCES OBVIOUSLY SEAN I. Five spots. He has a I have a three. Guys like show, McVeigh six an eight. That's not too far apart, but five spots pretty big number to jump on a top ten list. Let me ask you this if you were. Let's instead of doing this list based on what these guys have done. Let's do it like if you were hiring head coach for your team, you got to take over the bank. You're the you're in charge of the bengals. You fires. Act Taylor because you know. Can 'cause you're GONNA hire anybody. Bell Tech is one right probably. Oh. Yeah, easy okay. Case for one, but we'll get to them and say. Just like you developed a quarterbacks, but you're probably going ballot. Check read. Who would you who would be up next were hiring somebody. I would say if I'm hiring a coach. Might be three if I can have any coach I want. I'm probably going probably going with Sean. Payton maybe earn and no one, and here's the reasons because Belgium's going to be sixty nine, so you literally if if he's starting with a new team. You're only going to have a couple years with I'm fact this is like taking. which do you WanNa you want be like you're not gonNA. Take Tom Brady. One right because you're not gonNA. Have to be your franchise quarterback because he's done Belgium not coaching for another decade. He's probably got. Four more years Max. That's what I would say. If you hire you hire whoever you're hiring. You think you're getting for five years. I would take bill check spellcheck. You gotta take him. Then I would do Sean Payton until. Seventy eighty read it to and then. Sixty two six. I would take eighty two. He's got ten more years then. I would probably go. Kyle Shanahan and then I would definitely think about Sean McVeigh. I saw. Sean Payton. Quietly a little bit older than I thought. You know old. Trump is fifty six I. I didn't know that one even though I didn't know any age. If you think you put Sean Payton in eighty read other nobody like. Oh, he's only six years. So I agree with you. Belgium one re to I flip flopped and. Peyton at three, probably Shanahan for. mcvay for Peterson for I, don't know I don't know. It's. My top five if I was hiring today. In no particular order bill belichick Andy Reid Sean Payton Cal Shanahan Sean mcvay. And even. Old John Harbaugh is. Fifty six, fifty seven. Okay, he's not there, too. I just feel like those five guys are going to win no matter what the setup of your roster is. What about Tom when he's only forty eight. Mike Tomlin cannot be forty eight. I thought he was at least fifty is forty eight years. How was he got hired by the thirties, he was the youngest thirty five who. Tom They're. Just disrespecting. Doesn't get the respect and now here we go. This is your rearranging to coach turning into. Who Should we hire list? Well, the the point being that Bella checking Andy Reid clearly number one number two on everybody's list. GOP CAROL SEAN had..

"For him. Yeah. Don't think it's make or break it all I. think that he went nine and seven last year as a field goal away from the playoffs they're. The rams were good. You stay, you wouldn't be stopped. He wouldn't be of the table. Sean mcvay went six and ten. He would not be sweating losing his job at all I. Think this. Awesome two years in a row though. Yes. I think there would be some questions being asked. But I mean this is a team. The Rams had three losses last year that were by five points or less, and that's a nine seven. If just one of those flips, they don't need all three one game flips. They're ten six and in the playoffs, and also the Eagles at night and seven last year, and they had the fourth easiest schedule I, know they dealt with a lot of injuries, but they had four guineas with the redskins and giants. You know playing NFC west. You don't get the GIMMES. But again, I did have Peterson ahead of mcvay, even though I'm doing sean spitting. Peterson seven, so we we. We pretty much talked about the the same. You didn't. You didn't want to have Pearson behind. Now I was I told you I was split I I'm fifty one percent. Peterson and the you mentioned is what the top is that he has the ring. That was the tiebreaker. It matters it matters yeah, and at the end of the day. We. Measure these guys by the rings and there's a reason why Dan Marino cannot. Say. It's why I said before. I said that I think Andy. Reid a top five coach of all time before the chiefs win the Super, Bowl! Positively not. Fair like you've got a good argument there. He has no rings. How about five Kercheval time now that he has a ring? It's easier to say. This guy is a tough time, so I think that does make number six. Before! You say this name. This is what I thought was the most controversial a mile I. Either one. You might have the. Issue with I've majors. John Harbaugh at number six. You lost your mind. Winning head coaches. I think horrible has a case. I think harbaugh has a case. To be as high as number two. But, realistically probably as high as number three six to me for guy who's sixty, sixty, one, almost sixty two percent winning percentage, hundred eighteen and seventy four, and has been to the playoffs. Eight Times ten playoff wins at a super bowl. Victory granted twenty twelve feels like a long time ago. This is. An outstanding coach, only really too bad seasons in his career. I think this is far too long for John Harbaugh. Well I mean when we get to who I have above him I can make a strong case for why every person I have above harbaugh is above. And here is my main issue with Harbaugh, and this is why he is not in the top five Brinson. Let me ask you this. When is the last time John Harbaugh? One play off game. Was To yours. Yes just because that's what. Two thousand fourteen. That's a problem six years ago. He has not won a playoff game in six years the Bengals haven't WanNa playoff game at twenty seven years. Or whatever it is John Harbaugh six years. That's that's not good. Like. How can you be a top-five coach? In the NFL and you haven't won a playoff game in six years. I mean that is the main point. Of My argument I just couldn't. he went to the playoffs his first five seasons. He. Finally had a a five hundred five hundred year in two thousand thirteen that was following their super bowl. In the basically, the Ravens got dismantled. Bounce back and made the playoffs to two thousand fourteen then missed three straight years, and what five eleven eight, nine and seven. In the seasons there's Joe flacco seasons. Flocking wasn't playing well, and they were tied to him with that contract, and they're trying to win with defense. And then you know halfway through last year they plug in the large accident. They make a playoff run. And then he probably has the best team of his career in two thousand, nineteen with Lamar Jackson, winning MVP and steamrolling to the top seed. They lost the titans that stinks, but that was a that is awesome, and there's no reason to think that they won't be really good moving forward to. Celebrate when we come back, we'll do breaches top five coaches in the NFL. Hey y'all chip Patterson here from the PODCAST. "We watched some of the stuff that Robert had done in college but I mean just in. In a annisten boardman amount of time that we spent really studying that and you could see Colin. Mike had a vision of what they wanted it to look like to really build offense around the skillset that Robert has and it was amazing and I mean. I can remember for over a thousand yards. One play action concept alone. You know the short end break in route. He, did it out of the pistols offset gun, but it was a really fun here. What people forget you? We ran the football so well and encountered such a great job in Mike with the design of the offense and Chris I or the offensive line coach. It was a really great reflection of the adjustability, though because yet learned some things in those first couple of years because it was the third season with the redskins that Robin ear was. was and comes in and what people forget to is we were we were. I can't remember exactly. But I WANNA save. We reformed six at the by, and we won six straight, coming out of the by to get to ten and six to win the division, but it was just such a great job by those guys know Robert made a bunch of plays, and and it was a really fun season that you kind of look back on and. How different the way that we operated was with Robert in that team, compared to the first couple of years where we were still in a fish offense, and I think that's a great reflection of what great coaches do and Mike Had the vision say let's make it about our players. Let's justice system accordingly and then see the results are when when when you have good guys. They can see that all right so like you said there was one concept that you guys through thousand yards I. I would guess that reflects that like the League wasn't really ready for what you were doing. Like. was there any question then like? Is this gimmicky because I just remember? I had my roommate when I was in my twenties I. Remember he you know. He coached northeastern up here in Boston, and he coached against Chip Kelly there, and he was defensive. Like is limited earnings coach at the time, but he was. You know working a week ahead. A quality control coach would and he looked at the stuff that chip was doing, and he was like that's either the most complicated thing I've ever seen or the least complicated thing I've ever seen. And I can't tell which, and because they were doing so many different things. Address it up and run it fast. And I remember him saying to me. He's like this stuff at work in the NFL I. Don't know. Why wouldn't you now but I think like when you guys did that stuff, right? There was still that like Gimmick. This is gimmicky. This is college. This is like a lot of that. Stuff was sort of seen that way. Did you. Were you guys worried about that going into that year or was there? Just the feeling? This is GonNa work like this is not going to be like. We're going to be able to pull this off. Yeah, I, think it's I think it's something one of the I mean. Shoot you. Look back even just last couple of years. I think what you realize is. The League goes in trends. It's always about adjusting and adapting, and I think kyle always had such a great field for okay. This will work, but we won't be able to lean on this quite as much and in order to be able to be a fully efficient offense in all phases are here's the areas we need to improve and I think he was always able to identify and understand the realistic approach of yet. We can do some of these things you know like when you play with when you're just running the quarterback period right like most defenses. Defenses are designed especially in the NFL where they're used to plan eleven on ten. They're not having to account for that extra gap or that Exter- runner when you have the quarterback as part of the equation changes up all their fits, and it really gives them some issues well on a on a positive while the negative is is that you've got a chance that your quarterback is going to be more susceptible to injuries? He's GonNa. Take kits that you probably would prefer not to have to be involved in so. So I think we knew that it was something that yeah, a this caught. Some guys off guard and Roberts ability as a runner did regulate a lot of the coverage contours of things that we got where. Hey, if you've got to stop the run and this is how you WanNa, do it. GonNa open up some voids on the back end in behind those second level defenders, but still in front of a post safety in and we got a lot of regulated looks as a result of that but like anything else there's. There's always an evolution is defensive. Coordinators are so good. I mean you look at even just some of the things that we've experienced in the three year trajectory with the rams. You've gotTA adjust adapt. You've got to have a philosophy similar to what I think. Chip did such a great job with is a this is an identity, but we won't be able to still change up always going fast. It's like a pitcher changing up. As did you try to always keep defensive coordinator and defensive players feeling like they're on their heels. Then things sort of and you mentioned the quarterback getting hurt that happens at the end of that year. Things went sideways. That last year in Washington, and it's Funny Sean Because I. That Staff is remembered so I remember I covered a lot of the Mike dismissal there and I just remember how crazy that was, and now I think history looks back on that staff a lot differently because of the success that so many of you guys have had. What was the environment like in the building? Like what was it like for a young kid who still figuring it out figuring out who he is as a coach? What was the environment in that building like on? On a day-to-day basis. Yeah, so there was the there was some of the things you see in the media, but I never felt that because we all love football and I'll tell you what it was was a great opportunity that you're working with some of the best friends that you have where you're positively pushing each other. We didn't always get the results that we wanted especially that last year, but we all had a consistent approaches. We love football. We're GONNA. Come back to work roller sleeves up trying to put together the best game. Game Plan and really just push one another in a great way, and even though it didn't get the results I can tell you that urge. Season was one of the best best growth opportunities where you're saying. Hey, you're.

Ram's Brian Allen first NFL player known to have COVID-19

"Ram center Brian Allen who last year started about half the season before he suffered a season ending knee injury is revealed to be the first active player in the NFL to have tested positive for corona virus now he told Fox Sports on Wednesday and then in the wake of that Sean McVay did an interview with Jay Glazer on Fox Sports where he talked about finding out that right Allen who admitted the facilities working to rehab from his knee injury finding out that Allen I had tested positive in that he was feeling symptoms and so you can imagine for a head coach at general manager as well you're trying to protect your player and protect his privacy me think about the NBA there were some athletes who chose to reveal that they had corona virus let's see Kevin Durant was among the the four nets who who contracted it and he revealed himself but the other nets did not Donovan Mitchell shared that he had from the Utah Jazz we'd know that job market smart of the Celtics also indicated that he had it but there were others the Lakers never did reveal that you guys who they say tested positive for corona virus with it it's a personal decision and it's private and you can imagine that there are some people out there who don't want their names to be released and so the rams had a kind of tiptoed around this and been really careful not to answer any questions directly about covert nineteen but once Brian Allen it revealed that he had tested positive that he had been feeling symptoms then his head coach Sean McVay also spoke to Fox Sports one think the first thing was number one you just want to make sure that you're doing all the necessary steps are you know identify okay how are you feeling health wise and then are we making sure that everybody else is aware of what he's been exposed to and you know the thing is I talked to him yesterday as well I'm really glad to hear that he's feeling good he's healthy and he's not he's on the road to recovery because I think we all understand that then you know the severity of what this is meant for some people fortunately for Brian he's on the road to recovery I think you did a great job of letting us know right away so we could be timely in our response and making sure that you know we didn't expose anybody else for that and that's a real credit to Brian and Reggie Scott DC Batman and all the people that were involved and that's the most important part because of how contagious the virus can be it's important to let everybody else know that you have it you tested positive for it because it can get passed along and then they have a responsibility to their families as well as the people that they have been in contact with and that's kind of the scary part that's why it's it's so difficult to curb the spread of Infiniti's like new York's city or in the US cities like Detroit or Chicago or some of the others where there have been hot spots because you have to know in order to alert those people that you have been around it's hard sometimes to remember every single person you have you been in close contact with now in the case of Brian Allen he began to feel symptoms three weeks ago and you remembered the the NFL closed down its training facilities all of them officially but a lot of the facilities even before Roger Goodell and the owners agreed on how they would handle this moving forward you know there are a lot of facilities that were already operating on skeleton crew that didn't have a lot of people in them and so Allen was spending his offseason in Los Angeles and he was rehabbing his knee injury it started to feel the symptoms three weeks ago and so he alerted the team of course and he indicated that he was having it you know some slight symptoms so one of one of the sets of symptoms includes losing your sense of smell and taste in addition to some of the others that are more widely reported fatigue headaches he said he had a sore throat as well and so he he felt those symptoms he told the I. team and the facilities were completely locked out they were cleaned and everybody that he had been in contact with was alerted so now it's been a few weeks he's expected to be cleared of the virus this week which is good news that he's not a high risk type of an individual because he's young he's in his mid twenties he's in great health he's a professional athlete but you don't know who else he might have been in contact with and so you can imagine the rams were doing their due diligence and trying to make sure that they followed up in terms of the the community spread and John McVeigh get on Fox Sports is finally feeling like he can talk about this now what you want to make sure is alright if you had been there were not leaving anybody else susceptible to to some of the things as far as being able to catch you because it is actually spread airborne and and it can be a symptomatic were really you know you know kind of sneaks up on you if you will so we close the distillery's down for the last couple weeks they still represent being smart being safe as we can about it and being able to open up a store next week where those guys are on rehab programs only have the availability to get some of the treatment but we're gonna be real specific and segmenting it so that they're still the social distancing where guys are far apart and really break it up throughout the day because it's a really small group of guys J. so we're being as smart as down with our decision making you know while being able to kind of carry on as close as you can with with some of those three have

There are plenty of people in this audience. Okay who are listening right now who may have access to a twitter feed. Who can send me a question at Sodano and And we can do this as a community. We're all doing this wall in this together including this interview coming up next. Because we're going to do a great job of of talking to Schuyler Garcia of San Fernando High School. Our senior shot up a real quick before we do that. Before we go to break I had promised to hear from Roach so whoa Jr was on as VP last night on sports center and talking about a much like Major League baseball how to deal with players right like if they were to do these incubators cities like what what is the most necessary step for them and it's a common theme. We've talked about testing. Here's what wold said to as VP. Yesterday start with testing and what a testing process would look like if the league returned to play everything from a ramp up with teams in practice facilities to a bubble in Vegas and then restarting play. When you talk to whether it's owners executives medical people around the league. There's a belief that there is very likely going to have to be an ability for players if they were to test positive that they would then have to isolate the entire team and pull team out of a playoff series that they'd be able to take that player. Treat him away from the team but then be able to. Have you know rapid result testing available for everyone coaches players? Anyone in that immediate area and be able to have within that bubble the ability for someone to test positive but not force them to ultimately have to shut everything down so very similar greg to what we heard from Jeff on Major League Baseball and Baxter homes has more information on that which will talk about after we talked to our friend Schuyler. Our senior shadow today about the NBA working on a rapid testing with the medical community. That obviously can also help the public. Which I think is good if these sports can do things to help the public as well. Yeah if we can get it to the public just have as much rapid testing and quick twisting as possible. That's a excellent thing. Okay so what we're doing. We're going to take a break. I'm going to try to find my wife or at least texture and maybe she can either text me a question to ask Schuyler Garcia or she could maybe even do the interview yourself. Who knows are we can at least have a conversation about it with her. We will negotiate in the commercial break. Skylar CR SENIOR. Shoutout will join us in just a second. Don't forget Sean mcvay..

Could Brandin Cooks be traded for fourth time in six-year career?

"Brandon cooks had a tweet that just said Freeman yes that was on Friday and when you read that there's two things that come to mind one is okay he's talking about the corona virus in Africa wants to just go back to living their normal life and not trapped inside their house order the sportsman and I says free may he's upset with the Los Angeles rams and he wants a trade out of LA you look at the contract the branding cooks he's under contract through the twenty twenty three season has a cap hit of sixteen sixteen seventeen and seventeen million dollars across the board the dead cap this year for Brandin cooks is twenty nine point eight million and then following that in the next three years thirteen eighteen and three million of the number is an approximation he's still twenty six years old and at one time was viewed as a very promising up and coming wide receiver and I still think you can have a good career you know you look at what he was able to do from early on in his saints career shoot the twenty eighteen season with the rams you go through the stats twenty fourteen fifty three receptions five hundred and fifty yards three touchdowns twenty fifteen eighty four receptions over eleven hundred yards nine touchdowns that had that monster monster twenty sixteen where he catches almost eighty football's goes for one thousand one hundred seventy three yards and then a touch it's really had to back to back killer seasons with eighty four you know the two months years in twenty fifteen twenty sixteen and twenty seventeen he gets dealt the patriots and he goes sixty five receptions just over a thousand yards seven touchdowns how to touch down early on against the Texans was a big moment he had I'm in the playoffs he got knocked out in the Superbowl Malcolm Jenkins sent the matter game and the patriots after one year that one can get a contract extension so they traded to the rams and they ended up getting a first round pick back again for something to get a first round pick back for him so he goes to the rams twenty eighteen eighty receptions twelve hundred yards five touchdowns good year and last year only forty two receptions five hundred eighty three yards and two touchdowns so this is that was an off year for Brandin cooks now he only played in fourteen games but you know still it was an off year so you start to wonder is Brandon cooks going to get traded because of just the situation the ram Charan it is got rid of Todd Gurley defensively they say they're already locked up Barron Donald you're gonna have to sign Jaylen Ramsey to a long term extension you would think you also have money tied up in a lot of money tied up clearly to Jared Goff I don't think it's a great quarterback but he's getting paid as if he's a great quarterback and you saw that offense who this past year yes the the rams were a different team but you look at their wide receiving options do you really need Brandin cooks that office when you have Cooper Kupp having a very good season last year catching almost a hundred footballs and going over eleven hundred yards yeah Robert woods last year not the thousand you know thousand yard season caught ninety footballs so can you survive without Brandin cooks and get something back to help your football team what what's first do this what you will get the contracts Robert woods and Cooper Kupp Robert woods is a free agent at the end of the twenty twenty one season so for the next two years you're a robber was that a good number base salary this upcoming year it's five million in twenty twenty one at seven point five million capita they point one and a cap of nine point one so that's a good number and then when you get to Cooper Kupp can you take a look at his contract situation with the with the rams that's a contract situation where Cooper Kupp let's see where his deal is that he's a free agent at the end of the season so he is on a two million dollars and change contract so if you are the branches anything you have Robert woods who's twenty seven right now maybe he gets it probably does get another contract with that team and then you have Cooper Kupp who's twenty six read the codes are still very young yeah he's twenty six as well what do you do if you're gonna pay if you intend to pay Cup and also woods are you gonna put a lot of big money with three wide receivers so I think there's a good chance the Brandin cooks does get traded or the ram say you know what we believe are more like the football team two years ago not the team last year so we're gonna keep what we have and we're going to run it back brandy cooks for someone who's so talented and someone that has done a very nice job in his career so far what we've seen him go from playing with drew Brees and Sean Payton then go flying with Brady and Bella Jack and now playing with golf and the bay well those are not the key pad stops you get to all BAME coaches and to all fame quarterbacks golf one of seeing what he's going to be able to do in Sean McVay's is greatly respected around the league so the branding cooks tweet Hey C. Cooper cops jump on it and and clarify he's talking about the quarantine hi it's it's just amazing and it never surprised anymore on social media where if that were his intentions you never know but if those are his intentions how people now I think he could be traded but when you think about it with what they may need to do in the future or Cooper Kupp and Robert woods at the Brandon cooks experiment in the in the rams you know you could say could be short lived with your canoeing on that was really short lived he could be on the move once

Atlanta Falcons add Todd Gurley to roster a day after Los Angeles Rams released him

"Breaking news the Los Angeles rams have released running back Todd Gurley came out of college you know there were people who were worried about longevity because of issues around spend weeks exploring a trade for him now Gurley will be free to sign with any team you have to wait long Todd Gurley is signing with the falcons Todd Gurley obstacle form forty played college football at Georgia it's a one year deal for the twenty five year old running back sure that once a Todd Gurley Julio Jones on the same offense Ian AT T. L. not the box and not would Brady instead he goes back to the peach state as a former Georgia bulldog headed to the Atlanta Falcons one day after being released by the rams it's a one year six million dollar agreement but Adam Schefter reminds us that will still pull in plenty of coin from the rams not only did Todd Gurley want to go back there but they had a need girly goes back to Georgia the falcons fill the gap that they created when they released abbante Freeman in a salary cap casualty earlier this offseason so girly goes back to Georgia the falcons get their man keep in mind that the rams are paying him seven and a half million dollars this season on that one year deal and whatever else the falcons add on is just icing on the cake for Todd Gurley Gurley is run for more than a thousand yards in three of his five seasons with the rams he ran for a career low though eight fifty seven just this past year feel the aid style on Golovkin away going how he fits with his new team so I look at their depth chart right now and the death star get laughed after the release of the pontiff Freeman is relatively fan not ito Smith and Brian hill and you know it's in quad copter Allison who are sort of debt level running backs and taught happens to be from Atlanta which are happy to be out there in Georgia I should not be played at the university of Georgia also it is not that your home coming the only thing that matters in football but there are a lot of boxes that Todd Gurley checked by going back to the falcons are going to the father died today but I'm not surprised by this move all right with the girly now gone from the rams the onus is now on to other people Todd Gurley was expendable Todd Gurley was someplace to save money Brandon cooks might be as well with Cooper Kupp and Robert what's on that roster do you need to be paying Brandin cooks the Los Angeles rams are moving in this second phase of their title contention will it work we'll find out the truth is now the pressure ships from GM les Snead the coach Sean McVay now the pressure ships to the quarterback they put at the center of this new face this center of his new rebuild Jared Goff can the rams continue to be a Super Bowl contender the answer lies and how much you believe in Jared Goff Jared Goff and

Bengals at the Combine in Indianapolis, taking a closer look at Joe Burrow

"With us here from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis where we will be all week so much going on. I'm waiting next with Adam. Schefter Louis Riddick Todd mcshay and Mike Tannenbaum just to catch you up right now. Here's what's happening today in Indianapolis. It will be a very busy week. At Five o'clock eastern though owners are expected to meet players to talk about the new CBA which could expand the playoffs and move to a seventeen game regular season. We've got forty seven. Nfl head coaches and GMT. We'll be talking today. You're also hear from SEC. Standouts Joe Borough and to a ton of Aloha who also addressed the media earlier today. Jonesboro put on an absolute show as you know on route to a national championship for Lsu setting an FBI. Single season record with sixty touchdown passes and Ditto. While completing a whopping seventy six percents of his passes and not only that but bro won the heisman trophy in dominant fashion receiving a record ninety point seven percent of the first place votes here. Our previous comments from Joe Borough on February seventeenth during a reception. For the Davey. O'brien award. He had this to say I do have leveraged the Bengals have their process and I have my process. We haven't even gotten to the combine yet. There's a lot of things that happened. Leading up to the draft. A lot of information gathered bras. Mother Robin shot down the idea. Her son does not want to play for the bengals. Saying we have no idea where that came from. It's a story out there that has created that doesn't have any substance at least from our perspective here Hasbro earlier today here at the combine. Of course I want to be the first pick. That's that's every kid's dream you know I've worked really really hard for this opportunity and I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm a ball player. Whoever picks me on my go show up? How play whoever for forever dressing? You know. I'm just not going to be presumptuous. About what they WANNA DO I. It's the draft. You guys have been covered it for a long time and you never know what's going to happen so we played a month longer than everyone else and everyone else's been training a month longer than us you know. I wanted to put. I don't I didn't think I'd be able to put my best foot forward here at the combine so I wanted to wait till pro day had another whole month of training and just be the best that I could be when everyone when. Everyone's eyes are on me. You know coming in. If you're the number one pick the teen is picking number one. Is there for a reason? So you're going to have to come in. There's going to be ups and downs and you've got to stay steady through the process. Our research tells us about Joe. Borough is his own man. He's not going to be talked into saying things for other people's benefits so if that's what he said. That's that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting to know him getting to meet him through. The process haven't been able to sit down with them yet. But we've got that on the horizon. We'll talk more about Joe. Boroughs plans to hold off throwing here at the combine. But might I'll start with you in terms of do you want? Do you not want to play for the being. You have any issues at all with where we landed at least at this point. No I mean as I said last week Joe Borough at the end he does not have leverage. The bengals have the first pick in the draft. If they want to draft. Joe Joe Borough. That's where he's GonNa go now with that. Said I think it's incumbent upon sack Taylor in the Bengal organization to create the Right Environment. Where he could come in and they could build something sustainable and truly transformative so. I think where we wended. Wendy is appropriate last week. He could've handled that better but to Joe Boroughs credit. I think they tweak things I think they're in a good spot now. He's been well-coached past week. Tower doesn't it. Yeah and Adema to your Do All your contacts. It appears that borough likely young he's projected pick. I still think that's where the bengals ultimately go. And they're sitting there and that's about this a team that needs somebody to revitalize that franchise and they are expected to look to trade Andy Dalton at some point this off season and so when you're sitting there in division with Lamar Jackson there in Baltimore think that they know that they have to get somebody in there. That's going to put some points on the Board Baker Mayfield Cleveland and this is going to be the pick for the Cincinnati bengals. Even Joe was considering trying to exercise some kind of leverage really the only leverage you have is withhold your services and not playing not report even if he was thinking along those lines. Let's say he's doing a deep dive trying to figure out exactly. Just what the Cincinnati offer as far as developing me as a quarterback. Could you blame him? Could you really blame him for wanting to dig? Deep on exactly what? What does the future going to look like during over the course of my rookie contract with this football team would exactly? What exactly is Mike Brown's commitment to go ahead and building out this roster around me because we all know a lot of what's going to happen to him has nothing to do with him and has everything to do with everything that's going to be around him. Just look at the past three or four drafts. And how certain players have benefited from going to certain to certain teams? Just look at l a look at the difference between jar rookie year in his second year. Sean mcvay came in. It flipped his rookie year. People were saying Jared Goff to Canada. All of a sudden his second year is like. Oh wait a minute. Maybe he's not so bad you couldn't blame him. If that was a thought Lewis to that point I also think an opportunity. If you're Zach Taylor to say hey what's happened in the past. It's irrelevant we're going to myself with you and we're going to build something great and we can't worry about what's happened before we have a lot of work to do. But if I'm the bengals if I have a hey coach Taylor. That's worked with quarterbacks. Like you mentioned Jared Goff Joe Boroughs Billy and character. That's a great opportunity for the bengals. Sino three things one. Is that if something were to go on with. The bengals is not going to happen in public and this has been addressed in the past week if it's going to happen behind the scenes so whatever we hear from this point on. Don't even don't even look at it. Don't think about it because it has nothing to do with with what is going on behind the scenes. The second thing is this guy's different cab he beats. It goes a Beatles drummer. He doesn't care what anyone else has done. In the past what everyone else is GonNa do in the future? He's going to do what's best for Joe Borough but the third thing I know about him is he's a football guy he's his. His brothers played linebacker at safety at Nebraska. His Dad's a almost four decades coach in football. He's a football guy at its core. He's from Ohio. Obviously I think when it's all said and done he winds up going in Cincinnati if he's number one overall pick but again. If it's GonNa Happen it's GonNa Happen. Not In the media. It's GonNa happen behind the scenes again. Joe Bro not expected to throw on Thursday. He said he just wasn't ready yet. Not a huge deal. Sam Darnold Kyla Murray. The last two years have opted not to throw here at the combine as well. What did make headlines on Sunday? Oddly enough pros hand measurements the measurable quarterbacks took place on Sunday on the smaller side. Love listen here's what he said after it was suggested his aunt size was small considering retirement after. I was informed that we slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts while he's got good company because here's what Super Bowl fifty four. Mvp Patrick Mahomes had to say who had just slightly larger hands than did borough my small Andrew doing great so far all right he should say believe in yet. Here's borough earlier today addressing his hands. Yeah I mean these measurements you can. You can take so much from them if it's a glaring issue on film with turnovers. Yeah it's probably an issue but I didn't have a lot of fumbles or anything like that so I just tried to make a little joke out of it I think it's a non factor I don't get paid to talk about. Measurements and analyze. The measurements like played to play football. So that's what I'm GONNA do. I look we're not gonNA make too much of this question. Well yet about what? They actually do what they're actually measuring here so worry not. We've got a ruler. We've got Louis at. I mean really what you're really trying to do is just trying to measure the expense of someone and they put it down on the ground and you actually hear about guys actually doing hand exercises to stretch their hand as wide as possible although when you're grabbing a football you're actually going to measure from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the Pinky here and this is hard because this is a hard rule and you can't really get good accurate measuring you look tired type by just under nine right. Look I'll give you a non center's Oh that's attention and would have actually done something with my. I mean what's interesting when you watch the tape of Joe Borough? There are situations where people come from behind strip him when he's trying to move up in the pocket and run. I mean that's going to happen if you have nine if you have ten inches so I mean it's not a glaring obvious problem as far as him on the football field and that's why I think it's really. It's just going to be something that will hopefully wind up forgetting about certain the biggest thing is and you know this with all of these drills you know as well. Mike you go back to the tape and you're trying to find something after the fact that says okay. Now I'm going to look specifically at these things so you're gonNA look cold weather rain and then ball security and Joe Boroughs as good as any college quarterback you're ever going to see in the pocket in terms of two hands on the ball and protecting the ball. I saw him in two thousand eighteen the last weekend. In September against Ole Miss. You can go back and watch the tape. My suit was soaking wet when I did the open of that game. It was pouring rain driving rain in anyone who says it doesn't rain in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is lying to you. Because it poured and he completed seventy two percent of his throws with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in that game. So you go back to the tape and you try to look at these things and what the tape tells you is. He's just fine. You know I had a theory here. I have an interesting experience with hand size so I was forced out in two thousand eight. We were we trade for Brett Farve and just as a fan of sport. I can't wait to go out to the first practice and watch Brett farve throw. There's nothing physically imposing about breath and he goes out there and he's throwing Abe I've ever seen and I ask them like what is the value. Where's this philosophy comes from it? He said you know what Mike I have long fingers and I actually couple of football the way a lot of people throw a softball. I could actually be over the top and that's where I get all my philosophy from just watching my practice. It was unbelievable to watch though. I know as Lewis show. There's a tradition of how we measure hands but finger. Length is actually an underrated aspect of playing quarterback so far so far small hands but long fingers and you know what my pinky and all the time strong throwing football pictures of the five. It's easily the least important finger in the hand and I can't remember it ever being a big factor. It's all there in the grip. The pinky to me doesn't matter. It's archaic. How we're measuring the quarterback's hand span now with that. Said there's thirty four quarterbacks in the last fourteen years who have been drafted that have had hands of nine inches and smaller and really only two of them had any sort of Sustained Success Ryan. Tannehill is one of them and Jared. Goff is the other. That's it so there are thirty two out of thirty four. Who have failed. But are we going to say that he's going to the Joe Boroughs? Not GonNa have success because his hands tells me that the reason for their failure wasn't because they were nine inches weight.

Saturday’s NFL schedule is an unexpected delight: Three games with high stakes

"And we had some great games yesterday we had Texans defeating the Bucks wrapping up another A. F. C. south champs there for for five seasons they've done that we ended up having the rails be eliminated by Jimmy garage below Robbie gold late into that ballgame is the forty Niners looking for that number one seed but it was all about the New England Patriots once again and of course they win the AFC east for the eighty seventh consecutive year and bill Belichick was asked about you know where that ASC east hat how do you like the fit of the hat the current lower Nyssa can you imagine it sounds like or how should show press good right yep yep yep sounds good me we can get it done with all its music and I played with Brett Farr is that's that's fair is there a worst give me because who buys that I mean you know you're always looking for a last second Christmas gifts I mean does anyone actually own an A. F. C. east champs T. series in fairness you're offered up a banner that they participated in AFC championship so there are two New England is not gonna be one of those programs that is excited about a hat from an AFC east championship that I think you just said eighty seven straight yeah they're not but but you don't think of the Browns won their division that those hats would go flying off the shelves I I guess right again it's it's expectation level on where you've been and I was in baton Rouge earlier this week and I looked at it and it had give the semi final game tee shirts as you know against Oklahoma there like a get ready for the peach bowl this could be great Mike that's got to be a tough sell as far as merchandise did you want to say that you went there yeah you want to take it that you went to the game yes but it's not the end all be all for Ellis shoots to win a national championship in is to have the national championship cert against probably either I think the Clemson Tigers at Ohio state if they're able defeat defeat Oklahoma but for the patriots it's incredible that they continue to do it and I think I go back and look at Sean McVay tell sure and what happened I thought this was interesting his quote about not going to the Super Bowl would ready to attack the Aussies it is tough because you care so much about these players the work that they put in and you want to do your part to try to you know see yourself you know have see those guys have that success and get an opportunity compete for World Championship we're not gonna do that but I do trust that were made of the right stuff I know that once we get through next week I can't wait to attack the off season figure out how I can be better for this football team as we move forward and I think the scars are gonna make us better it's interesting you know the last time I heard bill Belichick talking give something similar a speech two thousand eight I don't even think you gave that speech river Brady was alpha back castle ins of coming in after Brady got injured in the first couple of games and they go eleven five that was the last time it's been over a decade since the patriots had to give a speech like that and when I see Sean McVay who was this hot you know commodity they go they lost a wild card game made it to the Super Bowl in your two and we're thinking all right he's figured out the game he's brilliant makes me appreciate tells her what bill Belichick and the patriots continue to do in this sport appeared at the end of a yeah and that's why it's been the gray of people say it's the greatest run dynasty in the history of the league because how everything is structured for this not to happen and you see that these teams that lose super bowls the hang over effect there is something there because it's so hard to get in that position and then when you just fall short of it the error just comes completely out and having to reboot now they're rebooting and when you give up draft picks like the rams have and they have a full offense of why they have to re vamp you know in a way it is not left tackle he's getting older if he's gonna come back and play there's a lot of different things that they're going to have to deal with in the Sean McVay the genius title and why so many of these young coaches got hired that was not the case for a majority this season they did come on and play better at the end of the year but there is a stretch in the middle of the season this team was lost so they have a lot of work to do show my face got to figure out kind of new ways to reinvent what he's doing with the personalities gonna have it in you try to re invented and we see reinventing offices work right we we see with what the ravens have done under Lamar Jackson we sell it Sean make very had done obviously with the rams and the collegiate level though I think you can win a national championship by reinventing your office I you look at the LSU Tigers and and what we seen even clubs and while work with but in the NFL it's tried and true it's not about how great your offenses ask Patrick well homes as he has a super beau yet now is arguably the most impressive player often simply we've seen in years but it's about the defense and I guess we still trust the patriots more than anyone because of that defense dowsers or anyone else no I mean right now if you ask me I trust Baltimore and what they're doing running the football and then the defense because it used to be it was all defense and still it keeps you in these games but with the roles and how things go use you have to be able to move the football and that's why the people have been more down on this patriots team because they've struggled so much all season well yesterday was the first real glimpse in the last three or four weeks that you see you know what maybe and now I think you're gonna see a little bit of that doubt start coming back

49ers finish off their home slate in 2019 with an NFC West divisional matchup against the Rams

"We'll get things going then. In the Saturday night slot words the forty niners playing host to the rams. You're looking at the forty niners. A six and a half point favorite in this contest. Test total at forty five at Fox numbers tick tick trickle take down. Whatever the hell you want to say for forty six and a half on the open we know? The Rams playoff hopes are on life support. Pain the forty niners need to win to keep pace with the seahawks in their quest for a division title obviously they would like to win out and try and secure that number one overall seed read. This is actually going to be the largest underdog the rams have been stalled in football. Game with Sean mcvay. As their head coach they even rested starters late in the year season ago. And we're in catching six and a half but when you look at the rams performance against the Dallas cowboys all that optimism that enthusiasm that energy that the rams have found that two thousand eighteen swagger the goes out the window but the forty niners on the other side they need to bounce back after they were upset as a double digit favored by the Atlanta Falcons. It wasn't the best of matchups for the rams last week. And you know you look here in. It's it's not the best match up in this game either. It's week sixteen right like we've talked about these teams over and over. It can sound a little repetitive. But I think if you're looking at Jared Goff you're looking at mcvay you're looking at girl in this rams offense. The biggest thing is the ability to negate pressure right inevitably when it gets to Goff. How is he going to handle it? These are the things that matter most on this side of the ball and you go back to that week. Six matchup in golf just GONNA do anything. Sacked four times pressured. Twenty two did not handle that very well. One point seven yards per pass attempt zero explosive passes had a twenty nine percent passing success rate. That was with all three receivers healthy to back then so there wasn't any issues In being shorthanded. Now there's this lingering thumb issue golf hit his thumb on a helmet last week. He claims it's just Peruzzi. He claims just feels a little stiff. And he's GonNa be one hundred percent fine. Let's say golf is fine. Think about this match up a little bit you know you have a rams is team that passes at sixty two percent of the time. It's it's top ten in the league. They probably are going to pass it a little bit more here. Just Game Theory. Wise is being a nearly seven point dog as you alluded to the motion. The mcvay era but the point is of the rams are going to be passed now facing this forty niners defense and and we talk about this all the time. Top foreign pressure rate bottom foreign bullets rate. The secondary isn't left very vulnerable here and why they have the second most efficient pass defense all assigns at least so far unless Thursday hiccup at practice today that Richard Sherman Williams. They're going to be good to go Saturday. They were full participants. Since at Wednesday's practice that's a great sign. If this were two thousand seventeen I think or even early last year the solutions pretty simple right like just turn around. Hand it off to girly. Make the forty niners defend run. Make their pass rushers respect run make them think about this run game before they can just like go after Goff like a pack of wild animals if girly I can get going here. He didn't play in the first game if he can show flashes if he can be his former sell for sixty minute sample. I think that likely determines who covers this game taught right because the forty niners are the most vulnerable against the run. It's it's nitpicking picking but if you look the four defense twenty third in rushing success rate twenty second explosive run defense whether it's earlier Brown right. Those guys are GONNA have to be efficient enough off for the niners to respect the ground game. And if not I I don't think we can project GOV like going out and having a field day against an elite pass rushing elite secondary knowing passes coming all game.

NFL 2019 trade deadline: buyers and sellers that could look to strike in-season deals

"So today was a bevy of traits all all sorts of craziness happening Sheila Ramsey being shipped from the rams sorry for the jags to the rams for two first of forced workers peers to ship the rams all the way over to Baltimore brother moves I'd like to talk about like how how old this ins up working out for teams around this time right you get into a position where maybe you're a buyer maybe your seller what do you think goes through the minds of of teams that are only six games into the season at this point yeah you know it's hard because the trade deadline is so early in the season and the way that it's all like baseball where it's you know the end of July and you know if you're in it or not so it's difficult but what's interesting to me is is over the past few years you know it wasn't that long ago there were rarely NFL trades and now all of a sudden you're seeing a lot more activity in a couple of weeks before the trade trade deadline at that so it's fascinating is sort of the changes but you know you look at the standings and there are what a couple of teams the dolphins the red you know who can legitimate Cincinnati can legitimately say they're not going to make the playoffs right everybody else is still in the mix and and that's what makes it so hard in some of these obviously were person you know personnel issues more so the horse and and talent but we feel like the Broncos I mean for example they went they if they somehow be the chiefs there only one game out of the AFC west to relieve me of sweat that that's how close it I just I find interesting bed that it's if you have to you making this decision at this point to either be a buyer or seller and he said there's only a couple teams a real legitimately say that well yeah we're we're not in position to win right now yeah yeah I do know I just found it interesting look at the rams at this Sean McVay said you know all the three and thirteen twenty six Jaguars at four sixteen Jack or some people get three players from them that's what's gonna put us over the top here ready to go get Blake Bortles Dante Fowler Jaylen Ramsey what I really put this thing over the topic pages that one man's trash is another man's treasure yes well but I I I think it's deeper than that it's the when you look at a team like the rams they trade away Marcus Peters but then they trade for Jaylen Ramsey clearly they didn't have a need at corner thanks what they had a need to do was to move one guy and bring a new guy and so that's why you know it's personality stuff it goes back yeah I want to bring up Antonio brown again but it's it's it goes back to was a guy fitting it is a guy causing trouble and obviously Jaylen Ramsey everybody knows what was going on in Jacksonville right in computers computers was a kind of the consummate teammate in LA but he did have some issues with some coaches there as well that's part of the reason you get the whole circular movement there with all that kind of stuff you saw a lot of outpouring of support from teammates for Marcus Peters when he was dealt then we see that with the jailer Remzi on that bill team chemistry I mean you've been a lot a locker rooms and like like I think we talk about that thing is like it's it's a big it's a big deal because deal but then there's like the other other segment that says I mean personality is one thing but performance is another Jill Ramsey's could still consider were the best quarterbacks in the league that's gonna put up some of that he probably is the best I any any is what twenty four years old I think I mean he's so big pick up for the rams the question is how do you fit in and I I think it's it's a mix I mean you look back at teams that have been had tremendously talented rosters that maybe there was some issue in the in the in the in the you know whether it's with the chemistry or in the locker room or somehow between coaches and players and that can that can dive bomber team at the same time in do need talent but these guys as you know spend every day together for months and months and months and it's important that they get along so if if one guy is is causing issues I think it probably makes

"Of star running backs who have missed orbin limited in practice this week due to injury the biggest question marks on this list Todd Gurley and David Johnson both those players missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday Adam get us going here Christian McCaffrey is they faced the box yesterday they faced the books over in London Christian McCaffrey went through practice this morning head coach Ron Rivera said he's five it sounds like more of a rest maintenance issue with Christian McCaffrey not going to be an issue for him on Sunday morning at nine thirty eastern he is expected to play against the buccaneers field ABC American saints at the Jags you don't like injuries pop up during the week Suzanne Alvin Kamara was added to the injury report on Thursday because of an ankle issue he was limited no clear indication whether or not he will play if for some reason he sits Latavius Murray's the next man up in the world is in that back at huge matchup rams niners what about Todd Girls it has not practiced the last two days suzy he is nursing a quad injury. Sean mcvay made it sound yesterday like they couldn't practiced in yesterday's if they needed to so it sounds like they're managing and again we'll find out today where they listed on the injury report about David Johnson against the Falcons not yet it just seems so far this week because of a back issue susie but GM steve kind was on the radio in Arizona this morning express some optimism about Johnson plane he did not he's not one hundred percent certain but there's at least a chance with David Jones Attivo Chris Carson be ready to go against the Browns Susan your field mentioned the did Alvin Kamara was added to the injury report mid week same is true of Chris Carson with a shoulder injury limited during practice on Thursday he's such a physical back you worry about her shoulder injury with Chris Carson if there's any questions about his availability for any backup b. let's add a wide receiver to the mix the chiefs I recall that will of course he has been suffering that clavicle injury all the way back in week one limited participant practice all week last week he has been limited so far at this week's who's the seems like there is a chance in a game that all of a sudden is one that people are seemingly given the texts better chance to win on Sunday in Kansas City.

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott back at practice

"The way zeke is now at practice for the cowboys. He signed his contract about fifty million bucks a year which is top of the class. It's in that todd gurley class and i know the rams this morning love their todd gurley contract is he got hurt but zeke zeke is an important player. I don't buy that zeke's the most important player i think dak prescott is the franchise. He's gonna make over double zeke makes he's the guy went in front of the microphone. He's the guy won't touch the ball late but zeke isn't a lot of wow he's twenty three touchdowns thirty five hundred yards but he went a bunch of games and i think he's a grown up in an adult and i think it's dax team. I don't think it's zeke's team. Although i think zeke is really talented. I think aaron donald really talented but i think it's jared goff's team in sean mcvay team not aaron donald in los angeles but i will say if you're a high school running back in college running back n._f._l. Running back this is a good day for you because zeke got paid and there is this narrative out there now that running backs analytically don't deserve the the money

Aaron Rodgers 'Glad' Packers' Joint Practices with Texans Over

"Go to the n._f._l. Let's start this in green bay. Packers and new head coach matt leflore and aaron rodgers not on the same page early in camp. The coach likes can't likes camp likes working out with other teams. Here's what aaron rodgers said said about doing a joint practice with texans. I wouldn't mind if they didn't do it for another fourteen years and then he said that the offensive work is of great value because schematically. There's not a lot there and he doesn't like the risk of injury. Is this just one of those things or is this a real problem between rogers and the floor. Take it or shake it. Take it real problems. Take take take it though she sleep but i think when you think when you think about what i said the other day about out joint practices. It's a no no. No one wants to do that but coaches then only ones you. There's there's nothing to gain from it. The iran tell you 'cause. Let's coaches are stupid. He just do stuff. They just day or stupid. I told you this the other day and raja's comes out and basically backs up exactly exactly what i'll say it. No one wants to do that. You risk injury. You're getting no real work at all and it is going to be a power struggle for this young head head coach and matlock floor in aaron rodgers. It's going to be a power struggle in math going to have to cave in or else. He's going to get fire yeah. I was just gonna say if you're a brand new head coach jay first time head coach and all of a sudden you gotta go coach your first team as the head guy that's one thing you've got to be the head coach of the green bay packers with a hall of fame quarterback. Who's in the meat prime of his career. That's a totally different thing different. Yeah it's different because ann rogers is also different. He's so cerebral. He's so questions every think think anyway. He's not just gonna go to get him on like other. Q._b.'s wills so you know skiing on the walls though skin on the wall. What do you mean it meaning matlock floor. Oh if you if you were dealing dealing with coach that came in and mike shanahan or bill parcells done something that has some skin on the wall the aaron rodgers with baal down where if there's a guy like sean mcvay say the world gets up into shining face their push mcvay a smart enough to realize that i need him to produce some let him do what he needs to do. If he's doing what he needs to do in his positive then we're gonna be okay and if it's negative it's gonna follow him. I've done everything to make him a better player. I'll keep my job. How to Remember Anything

"They were relocating back from Saint Louis to Los Angeles, a fresh start a new home, but they only won four games and lost twelve they stink. And they hadn't had a winning season in fourteen years with the next year two thousand seventeen things were different. When you find a way to come on the road finish up your record seven and one and win division. There's only one thing you could say. The following season. The Rams win thirteen out of sixteen games tying for the best record and football. They make it all the way to the Super Bowl their secret weapon. The Rams had hired a new head coach, Sean McVay. He was just thirty years old the youngest NFL coach since nineteen thirty eight his secret weapon his memory. We saw you on television. And you remember two ton of place. Sean McVay can recall on-command almost any moment. He's ever seen on a football field. Listen to him being grilled by a couple of sports reporters about completely random plays from past seasons week twelve saints at Rams four twenty nine in the second quarter second and seven on the saints seven what happened? Oh, gosh. Reynolds touchdown off schedule players, the three men rush. You're absolutely kidding me. You're unbelievable. You don't need to know the playbook or understand the lingo to hear that. This is sort of crazy now we are getting back to twenty fifteen weeks, seven bucks. At skin's second seven on the Tampa Bay twenty four fifty eight seconds left in the fourth quarter, famous Crowder wheel route down the right side. Jamison Crowder, we are out down the right sideline. South the first down of that. How did that drive in ordinary touchdown four by one individual eyeso- slant? Shake the brain on shore amazing. He even remembers plays going back sixteen years when he was in the state semifinals in high school, this kind of recall gives him a big edge as a coach when he needs to make a quick decision with the game on the line. He isn't entire library of successes and mistakes at his fingertips. Sean McVay is clearly a savant. But memory is not just an innate talent, you can strengthen yours like a muscle. Your team can use it to pump up creativity and boost sales and just maybe we can all figure out exactly where we left our car keys. I'm Adam grant, and this is work life my podcast with Ted. I'm an organizational psychologist, I study hot make work not suck in this show. I'm inviting myself inside the minds of some truly unusual people because they've mastered. Something I wish everyone knew about work. Today memory, how to make your own recall stronger, and how to build your organization's memory too. Thanks to censure for sponsoring this episode. Through most of human history, the most valuable people to have in your tribe. We're the ones with great memories. Even in the area of cavemen your life depended on that friend who remembered which mushroom was poisonous or where to find water in a drought as civilizations developed you needed to remember which merchants were trustworthy, and which guilds were hostile in Lincoln's era. A Mark of a well read person was the ability to quote at length from many sources now you're probably in the habit of outsourcing your memory to electric devices with the ability to retain and recall information in your head is still crucial. One it helps you establish expertise under uncertainty. If a car salesperson knows safety specs off the top of her head. You'll assume she knows what he's talking about. To having a good memory as a central for making fast decisions. When a patient goes into cardiac arrest during a procedure surgeons don't have time to run a Google search about what to do. And three memory helps you build and maintain relationships you expect a financial planner to remember your risk preferences. You wanna therapist to recall how your worldview was shaped by your your family and before a performance review? You hope your boss hasn't forgotten all the good work. You've done. As a professor I've always encouraged by students to develop their memories. The problem was when they ask how didn't really have a good answer. Then I came across this guy. I've been known to be well a little bit forgetful, Joshua Foa is a science journalist for as long as he could remember he'd had a terrible memory. What are the things that? You've always had the hardest time remembering.

"This is that you it's we put the microscope on you. We crush you. I did not think it was a great game for Sean McVay, but he's thirty three. I thought Anthony Lynn had a terrible afternoon for the chargers. He's older. I did not think it was a great day for Bob Sutton, the sixty year old defensive coordinator or Andy Reid there. Fifty sixty year old guys. So this is just the reality of the situation losing Super Bowls. You're going to get clubbed. You're gonna get club by every talk show every newspaper every blog, and it's how you handle it. And I think the Rams are really smart, and they'll handle it fine. It is interesting. I was Steve Kerr had a funny bite. We have three dynasties going on here. It's crazy. The warriors dynasty, the Alabama dynasty and the New England dynasty, and it usually it doesn't work that way. But we have in the three most popular sports arguably in America, NFL NBA, and college football, we have three dynasties and Steve Kerr joked about it the other day. Just gets old watching the same team win the whole thing. Your fear. I was really arrogant. Was kind of fun to say that. You know, I actually think of the three dynasties I think most people think the patriots will be the first because of Brady's age to evaporate. I think the opposite. I think the Alabama dynasty is already fraying because of three factors number one. Clemson has emerged as every bit as good or better than Alabama. Secondly, the SEC football powers like Florida, Texas. Am. Georgia. Now have really really good coaches. So they're going to lose more conference games. And I think Golden State after they win this year again and win easily egos and a recklessness. They just happen. They happen to Kobe shack. Michael, Jordan retired. This is just the way the NBA works. I think New England's here to last ballot. Check still the best coach Brady was just the best quarterback in Super Bowl. And they have twelve draft picks. I think knowing Lund's is going to last for at least three more years. Our to next. This is the her.

"And it's not a very good sign. Of course, LeBron afterwards. This is the LeBron sleight of hand LeBron saying, hey, I know it's tough on a lot of our guys, especially our young guys. They're hearing it every single day. You know, you gotta stay off social media. You know, young guys love social media. So I I definitely they gotta stay off social media. Lebron acting as if yes, I mean, I have no part of this. I'm just watching this unfold. I have nothing to do with this. Of course, it's and like LeBron's not on social media all day as well. Keep your business. Private don't go on late night. Talk shows don't leak stuff don't try to protect your brand. You know, what your brand is Lakers, really ugly the last several years and really bad. If you don't land Anthony Davis, and for the next three months, you're gonna have Luke Walton trying to coach at team where every single player believes that LeBron James and his guys see them as just pawns Luke Walton done if this thing doesn't get made LeBron's going to be unhappy young players are going to be disengaged. Now, the Lakers are completely trapped. I mean, th that's the this is not how anybody does their business. I'm not saying Anthony Davis to the Lakers or trading a big star from a small market to LA is going to be perfect. I get it. I get it. This this had the potential because Anthony Davis has had going to have to come out and say, I got. Leave. Yeah. I wanna go. I'm not saying it was going to be perfect harmony. But this thing is a mess. The clippers. Chris Paul Blake Griffin Tobias Harris, Jerry West running the show, not a peep. Previous White House to the one. Now, not a peep, I can tell well run business by what gets out everything on this trade has gotten out show. Let me shift gears to this. I've been very tough on Sean McVay coach of the Rams I said during the season I like him. But let's wait to coronate him. You know, Vince Lombardi let's wait to coronate him, Bill Belichick. Let's just he was in the playoffs last year. We lost. Let's slow down on the Sean McVay. I think he's really talented kid in my business. I talented thirty year olds all the time. Let's not turn them into, you know, Rachel, Maddow, Sean, Hannity. Rush limbaugh. Let slow down a little bit here. And then when Sean McVay lost this past weekend. I said I thought he got coached. And I think he has a certain system he doesn't adapt necessarily. Well, he will over time. He's a smart guy. He's a good listener. He's a he's a he's a good coach. But there's a piece of film out this morning that people are just dissecting and making way too much of. So let me defend him. Here's the piece of film and people think Sean McVay is just to funding before the game to Bill. Ballot. Check perfect for you. So you always do them doing his best man the way that you guys are able to shift your identity and really still be able to figure it out. I mean week in week out tumbling people really show much respect for you in the way. You do it man. It was about coaching. Thank you coax. Now's twelve seconds. What did you want him to do trash talk valley? Check not talk to Bella check, by the way. That's how a young announcer treats VIN Scully when he meets him. That's how young NBA players treat. Kobe Bryant for twelve seconds when they meet him. That's how many young quarterbacks when they are on the field for the first time. And they see Tom they go over like, hey, man. I've been watching you forever. You're awesome. Dude. Totally respect your game. That's what I've done going up to a young Bob Costas years ago thirty years ago. What did you want him to do trash talk him Bill, Bella checks, the greatest football coach of our lives? One of the reasons. Sean McVeigh is an amazing young football. Coach is because he's watched. He's. Watched Bella check. And he's watched Bill Walsh. And he's watched Jimmy Johnson..

"So Donald show here on ESPN LA democra- for my Trudell hanging out today. We do have good good Laker news that will get to in a second potentially. Good Laker news. So we'll get to that. But Sean McVeigh I love Sean McVay for a million reasons that we've outlined on this show, basically the entire season. I appreciate you buttering me up, your, you're welcome, Sean. Yeah. And I love that. He is he's a guy who's as good as he is DeMarco has very little ego. I think so much so they he'll reach out to coaches at all different levels to chat football and talk football with them. He's not too big or too. No one is too. Big too small from to talk to. But I do like the fact that and maybe this is just me, you know, creating something out enough ING, but I like the fact that he's reached out to several guys coached in the Super Bowl. I know Dan, Quinn, specifically was one of them and he went up against New England. So I think that makes a lot of sense as to kind of how to go about all of it. Right. The gay. Getting there. How to prepare your team how to deal with all the media Gatien's how to deal with all this stuff? I think there's some real value to that stuff might crazy. You're right, man. I mean, it's really really tough on the players just like us getting ready for the Super Bowl. I mean, you get pulled in seventeen different directions. Everyone wants to ask you questions about the Rams about this football game. And the last thing on your mind is your prep for the game. Well, imagine being a player. I mean, you have to worry about who to get outta get him. But you're answering one thousand questions about that same guy before you even get the practice. So you can actually play the game in your mind if you times, but if we I wish back, then I would have had somebody and we did with coach for meal he was a Super Bowl participant loss to the raiders. But he at least had an idea of what was coming so little things like, hey, look when you guys get back in from your normal warm-up. Remember, we're not gonna take the field for another hour or at halftime. When we come in tell the coaches, hey, look, hold onto your halftime adjustments for fifteen minutes because we're going to be in here for a half an hour. Not are. Fifteen sixteen minutes. So just little things like that that keep you from going crazy because what would that help is maybe a little thing? But like, I know NBA games halftime can be big. If you need a little treatment, you know, ten so if you can the cannot help a guy that gets knocked in locked in the first half like and you got a half hour to work on it. This is funny. It was that kind of stuff. He was the first time. I I was teammates with Bruce since before we came together. But it was the first time I've actually seen him in the locker room at halftime without pads on. That's how much time we had he can actually take your stuff off and walk around. But he had actually walked up to me and said, I think this dude is about ready to to quit like I think Kurt is done that was the drama in our Super Bowl. Kurt Warner was laying on a table right at halftime in the Super Bowl. So we didn't know if we were going to have him, but all this type of stuff it does. If you're beat up if you've got a Nick or a boo, boo. It does give you a little extra time to get that treatment. But if you're a guy that's ready to get your adjustment. Go back to the field. You're going to be SOL. It takes a while to get out there. Sit down you're asking about the Robie Coleman Brady stuff yesterday. And I I had not that much of a different thought on it yesterday. But just thinking so Brady truly is like Michael Jordan in the sense where I kind kinda forgotten this. But he like he remembers every quarterback that was taken head of him. Like, apparently when when he was in college that Niners, Gino, karma, Z or whatever..

Do you think that it will backfire, obviously, she cried uncle relatively quick? I don't think she understands the power of the who DAT nation. I don't know about you. But I'd like to hear from you. How powerful is the who DAT nation, and do you think that the who DAT nation is stronger than the fan base of of a lot of other teams? I I've traveled around and have seen the saints play in in other venues both with them, and and and on my own, and and I I can tell you the who DAT nation is strong. They have a resolve like, no other. We've had a lot of adversity over the years to deal with obviously not so much in in the recent past and as pets willing pointed out. This is really going to be the test of football minds. Sean McVay and Sean Payton. Kana cut their teeth in the NFL into some of the same leaders some of the same path I'll be at different points in time in their life. But this is going to be a real chess match at think in trying to exploit little miniscule minute. Weaknesses in one another because when you think about it high-scoring offenses two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in the NFL. And I think and then to great defenses, albeit the experts give the saints a little bit of a leg up in that regard as it relates to defense. But but the fact is it's going to be really I think an ultimate tests for the defense. This is going to be a defensive struggle to say, the least, and I'll repeat what I said before. But defense the saints had one of the best defensive lines and football stuffing. Twenty four percent of rushers third-best in the league with a nine percent adjusted stuff rate fourth best in the league in L A finished at sixteenth. At sixteen at twenty second in the lead and seven percent nineteenth in the league respectively. So I was against the run has been an edge that we bring into the game on Sunday. But as Pat appropriately pointed out, it's all gonna come down to execution, and you gotta take what they give you and you've got to be able to make those not only gametime adjustments. But adjustments at halftime, obviously defensively we got off to a slow start against the eagles. I don't know that we're going to have that luxury against this offense because they seem to be one of those rhythm offenses when they get into a rhythm lookout. There's a lot of different things that can ultimately happened in that respect go to talk lines. I'm sorry got. Let's let's go to line one Rashard. What say you were chard. Hey, what's up? What's going on man at this? Not. No, no, no. You got to know by now, I'll forgive you. I forgive you, baby. I forgive you. Okay. No. About a couple of things. Was good. Their business. I mean, I know Louis because been all over the enemy, and there seems to be you know, better guys who are deserved get it at this point. What is the reaction around the league? Thanks so much. I think some surprise around the league, I think there's been mixed reaction to this class of hiring of coaches. I think that certain people believe in certain coaches, and others don't and Eric Bana may may have succeeded and Chris Rashard may have succeeded and Zach Taylor may succeed and Matt leflore may succeed we're gonna find that over time. And you can't really judge a hiring today. I think the one thing we can say is that Sean McVay changed the game. When the Rams hired Shaw. Mcveigh at the age of I think thirty years old when they are them. It gave teams a reason that they felt you know, what we're gonna hire who we want. We're not gonna wait. We're gonna go early on a guy, and there's certainly been a tendency for teams to go higher, offense, Monte coaches. I've had defensive coaches complained to me and say that they will be better off being a quality control coach for Sean McVay than being a defensive coordinator on another team that their chances of interviewing for head coaching job would be enhanced. And we also how many show McVay jokes? There were last week. Like, hey, I covered Sean McVeigh's. Reporter I'm qualified to coach team. I cleaned show. Mcface bathroom, I'm qualified to coach team everybody that any connection to show McVay all of a sudden deemed him or herself worthy of coaching NFL team. But the fact that matters that's not shown fault. Sean is an incredibly charismatic brilliant. Coach to the point where if you wanted to start a franchise he would be the guy you'd want coaching your team. That's not his full. Everybody's looking for a version of that. And this. That the Rams have had with him has given teams a reason justification rationalization to go and hire who they want. Even if the guy's a little early Unity's, not ready. They think that these the right moves to make. And that doesn't mean to Eric b enemy is not going to be a good head coach one day or Mike Kafka that she's quarterbacks coach who's also on teams radar is going to be a good head coach or Nick serianni the colts offensive coordinator. But these are the guys that have had some connections to show McVeigh that got an offensive background that are young that resemble what we've seen succeed around the league doesn't mean they will. But that's how some teams have approached this one team that bucked the Sean McVay trend, of course, the Cleveland Browns, which led to this call. Hey, this is Jackson from to North Carolina. Just calling in to see what you think about the Browns coaching staff extended search and their new organizational structure have Justin on Monday the Browns announced basically their entire staff. And when you look at it as a whole. It's hard not to like it. Right. You hire. Freddie kitchens. Who's never been a head coach. And we'll see how he does. But certainly his chances of succeeding greatly enhance with Baker Mayfield is the quarterback. But then they go in the name Steve Wilks as the defensive coordinator like that. Todd Mahnken is the offensive coordinator like that might prefer special teams corner. Like that stump Mitchell running backs run game corner. Like that James Cameron as the offensive line associated co like that Ryan Lindley quarterback. Oh, I mean, that's what you want..

"Does. He have any neighbors. Is there anybody who has any remote connection to Sean McVeigh? Can we hire that person, please? So it starts with Matt leflore who was with Sean McVay in Washington with Sean McVay for a year with the Rams offense coordinator McVay let him leave to go beat the offensive coordinator of the titans because he actually can coordinate the offense in Tennessee, or at least did coord-. Nate the offense because Mark variables a defensive coach now of floor after only one year of running an offense thirty nine years old only four years older than his new quarterback Aaron Rodgers which I guess is being his better than being younger than your quarterback. Which is what would have happened if they had hired McVeigh? Matt floor third youngest head coach in the league behind Sean MC van cal- Shanahan the floor. Has worked with the likes of Marcus mariota Jared Goff. Matt ryan. Leflore is the quarterbacks coach your Matt Ryan won the MVP. Worked with Kirk cousins RG three match he's been around the NFL for over a decade now and the Packers make him their new head coach. They interviewed Josh mcdaniels and the for Matt leflore mcdaniels didn't pull his name out of consideration. He's done that before once he's gotten wind that he's not going to get the job. I'm not getting the job. I don't want the job. It's the old. You can't fire me. I quit routine. He didn't even get a chance to do it Packers swoop in contacted everyone yesterday that they have their person and the one person who didn't get that phone. Call got a very different phone. Call was Matlock floor. Now, the question is will it work with Aaron Rodgers and Matt leflore can Matt leflore make it work. Can he get the best out of Aaron Rodgers? Trent Dilfer tweeted last night. Matlock Flora's Mike McCarthy before McCarthy stopped grinding do. Both smart creative offense, great pedigrees and strong leadership traits. Most importantly, he will coach Aaron hard. That's the key. You've got to coach him hard. He has to respect you. He has to. Be challenged by you. He has to be willing to buy into what you do. And I think that one of the questions that undoubtedly will be asked when. Matt floors introduced to the media in Green Bay is. Did you meet with Aaron Rodgers? Because Peter King had a great point. Even though the Packers weren't going to use Aaron Rodgers to screen candidates from the team's perspective. Peter King believed that whoever was a candidate for that job should want to speak to Aaron Rodgers to make sure Rogers is all in. But I don't know what happened yesterday. But man, it just fell together fast. I get the impression it all came together on Monday afternoon. And I don't think that folks in the building anticipated. It was going to move that quickly. That's another question that needs to be asked of Mark Murphy the person who ultimately made the higher what happened on Monday. They got this done. Did you start to get the? The sense that someone else was going to hire the floor. That's part of the game. That a good age and plays is not a game. It's life negotiation. Oh, well, you really like my guy while you know, you better do something because he's available rehired. He's he's not coaching a team that is still playing. You know, if you don't move. Now this chance somebody else is going to and sometimes that's true..

"But for the most part, Jared, cough was as you mentioned missing missing some throws that he usually is able to make because he was getting hurried up. Michael Bennett was able to make some noise in that front four in that front seven for the eagles was able to do something that we haven't really seen them do since last season. Alshon Jeffery looked like he was the same guy from the playoffs last year. He gets a all eight of his targets for eight hundred six yards in score. Touchdown. But you know, you could see the relationship between foles and Jeffrey, and they they can't mentioned this during the broadcast because cons worth brought it up that it was like a backyard football game with foale's in the huddle. And you saw the difference in that offense was what the eagles were able to do. And how. Much more comfortable, they looked you know with Peterson with foale's in the huddle. And from your vantage point Lombardi just watching this game. How crazy is it? A si that eagles team seem to get offense of rhythm and a flow with falls under center. And how different they just looked overall. As a team. Why thank you know. Yeah. The eagles the eagles. Look good. But I mean, I thought more than anything about the Rams are horrendous on defense. I think the Rams have been horrendous on defense. I think for all these name players that they have over there. Adama can sue. I don't see him do anything inside. You know, he's got all every opportunity to be single blocked because protections always slide into Donald. I don't see them making a play. I think you know, Collins said you can't throw the ball over to Toledo. Hell they were throwing the ball over to lead the whole game. I mean tha leaves whether he's one hundred percent or not he's not the same keep to leave that he was three years ago. You can throw on them. Same thing with Marcus Peters. Everybody in the league goes after Marcus Peters. They challenge them. They double move them. And I just think this ram team. They're debt is not very good. The injuries are setting in. But more than anything if. If you look at the last three weeks, and you know, Jared Goff has been ride in the Sean McVay train, but the last three weeks tape Frazier seven interceptions one touchdown averaging five point five two five yards per attempt. He's only made three plays in the last three weeks of over twenty five yards. I mean, his numbers are remarkably bad. This is this is pre Sean McVay Jared Goff. And I wrote the column on the Aflac about would you pay Jared Goff thirty million? I said I needed more time and after and if he doesn't improve look he's got San Francisco this week. And then he has you know, I think he has Arizona this week. Then San Francisco I mean, those are the teams he plays well against but last year in the playoffs. He was the worst quarterback in the playoffs. I set at last year after the game this year in the homestretch. He's been really bad. And I think to me that's got a concern. The Rams I tweeted the other night. I mean, obviously, obviously Cooper Cup has to be the MVP because he's the only piece missing. Now, look, I know Austin blind. The right guard is her is not playing very well. I get that. He's not playing good at all. But God almighty, how can this offense be this bad at when it was so good one thing that you can point out when you look at his offense. And a reason why they may not be what they were is because Todd Gurley at this point. He is injured he is banged up. I mean, he got hurt in this game was what they were saying. I think he got hurt and Kansas City to tape Frazier. He city he's been hurt. You know, you can see that he is limping around and he's trying to play third. I mean, he missed most of the third quarter in this game. And even when he was able to come back when they head that goal line Saint after they they realized that Reynolds was down short of the goal on any comment comes in his scores. A touchdown once he hits the ground there. I mean, it took a lot of effort for him to get up and keep going. There is whole team. Dolphins Alon picked him up. Whitworth just pulled him straight up from there..

"Or you learned to mind control of your opponent. It's a thing term called psyched out. Psyched out means was someone is not running their race or running in near lane. Not to get too deep it to track but air Rogers is number one in his head. Maybe one be if you say Tom Brady, guess what I'm trying to hear. We'll my coast comes up to me just how to get me to another place up. And if the only way I can go up is by changing who I am. But what I am got me here. I'm not I'm not trying to alter that genuine believes. He's not at fault. Right. Why didn't you believe? It's. Not me everybody. Let me he doesn't hear all he might hair. My hearing what it doesn't matter. So here and want to keep getting better. Like, do you think an Roger sits here and says, you know? More ready to consider XYZ. I'm a stay right here. No. He wants to continue to keep getting better. Exact wants to be one time. What are you thinking total? If I had Sean McVay as a coach would do if I had this guy. That's what he thinks. He's he does his. No, he wanted personnel control. Because he said I wanna make sure I'm in alignment with who you have is they fired him. And then he's like you not give me what I want. Oh, when you leave a lie and say, how close we really work, but I didn't come to bat for you. When we were still here not gonna really had influence of you keeping your job. He actually thinks this is a better move for him going forward to be gets to ride guy. I I listened TMZ just put out a video. I think our story about air Rogers made some little comment about he had dinner with his folks, recently, his pairs, and again, it doesn't surprise me that he's dropping that little nugget because his brother just savagely. And so he's Aaron Rodgers. Here's the noise and is reacting to the noise his brother just savaged he knows how that exposed. And then a week later. Here's Aaron HALE was out to dinner with my folks, he hears the noise he's capable of reacting to it. He can't listen to this. He knows that his parents. They they're going to be in his life forever. We talked professionally on the field. He re I'll have a hard time not believe in. He doesn't think. No, his problem. He's delusional. But at some point, I'm just telling you has to stay on MIR that is not evidence that he's hearing a noise. Therefore, he's reacting to it. Because what you have fallen victim to selective perception case in point everyone who comes LA they stay out here for a week. One thing they go back home and say man, everybody got a Mercedes everybody's beautiful. Ain't you just didn't look at all the Toyotas between that Mercedes? And guess what you have not watched every Aaron Rodgers teams the interview when he probably dig go to dinner with his folks six months ago, eight months ago, but now you caught one after you've been put on notice, and you're gonna use that against a man using the gifts. I think it's a son that he's here's the noise, and he's gonna just dinner with his parents before you think I'm sure but. Football question. And somehow he brings. That's intentional. No different than these comments. We didn't have a problem, blah, blah. He's trying to deflect from some of the noise. You can't have all these football people say, hey, man. You're part of the problem a-rod is these the wake up to that in a just if he ever wants to be on the same level as some of the other all time greats. This is diminishing him this. It's great the only who you said he thinks that I think that one hundred percent on the same was manning. And Brady, that's that's just fat talent wise, he is, but accomplishment, wise, and respect level wise and just the weight his peers, if you don't think appears opinion of you matters. It does matter if he wins another Super Bowl, but he remains the same does your opinion of him change. I think we're saying he won't win. Another one doesn't somehow change. Yes. The little. Little power of era. What if he wins the narrative will be he must have changed and he won the Super Bowl? Porcupine? But now that four depan enga word stop. Stop look. Ain't never been divorced..

"And he's continuing to accumulate these experiences. You know, you almost just put them in your inventory of of your memory. So that you can say all right. Hey, this is what Green Bay and Mike pet and gave me this is what Bradley gave me. And you know, these are things that, you know, have played against Dennis Allen lead defense last year, and those experiences serve as as great reference point for you just to continue to accumulate mental reps, and then be able to use them to have success on the field now, obviously with all due respect to Wade whose. I love that guy as as you know, we've had conversations about what you know. You know, I don't know that I've ever met anybody you meet somebody. I don't like wait Phillips. And I think the problem is probably with them. It's you problem. I it's it's not a problem. It's a you problem comes like that. So so, but with respect to him in that defense that is building and building we just mentioned Dante Fowler. It could come down to the ability of you and Jared Goff communicating and executing on offense because of the way that breeze and Peyton or executing on offense on the other side. Is that something you think about coming into this week knowing that you've got a play caller and a quarterback combination of the first variety on the other side their coach, I think what we talk about. If we have a lot of respect for just what a complete team the saints are in all three phases. And what we try to do every single week. It's figure out. Okay. What's it gonna take you know, for all three phases to play complementary football? And really, you know, these eight games that we've had up to this point had served as great reference points for us. You know, where defense had a handful of big plays in crunch time. To be able to win games. Offense has had to do some things to close it out. Obviously special teams the other day, you know, Aaron gets a big stop when we're down one point end up going and kicking a field goal and then to be able to allow Ramiz Wilson and to make that play. So I think it's been about all three phases. But certainly we always have to be ready with contingency plan. Based on the way that the field flow of the game plays out, and you know, from an offensive standpoint, we want to try to be as a fishing as possible and move the ball and score points. But it's gonna be a great challenge yet New Orleans, especially against the defenses plan as well as they have of late in your first year and a half is head coach in the in the National Football League. If you had to change one rule, you could wave the Sean McVay wand, you could change rule. What would that be? Oh man that now that. What are we talking about specific to what I mean? What are you? What don't you like you like, you know, when I wish this got changed as a defensive penalty rule is that an offensive rule is it something of more challenging. Sit down and think about that. You know, I think one of the things that's kinda come up that would be helpful especially once you get later on in the year just with regards to injury in different things like that is just being able to you know, up that active game day roster. Sometimes you get into situations. Guys are having to play with positions, you know, where sometimes you've seen them lineman down, and you end up having height ends playing tackle, you know, four that has happened for us. But I would just say increasing the active roster. But I mean if I set down and thought about it. I mean, I'm sure there's always things, but the thing that's good about the league. They're always working towards just, you know, collaborating with, you know, the the league the work coaches work with the players association to try to figure out what's best, you know, for everybody involved in. How can we continue to make this a great product that people love to watch took you out of your tunnel vision on the saints right there? Just that one question. I took it right out of it. Okay. I just wanna make sure that I just was asking 'cause I'm curious. Got it. Coach. I know you're you're going from meeting to meeting predate you jumping out and on the phone for a bit..

"Busy this Monday. Busier than usual with some news out of Tampa. Some news out of Cleveland, a guy who can help us understand exactly where things are and where they're going hall of fame. Head coach Tony Dungy previously, the bucks and the colts now with NBC's football night in America joins us now. Good morning coach. How are you? Hey, mike. You're right. A lot of things going on. And I just I guess I'm glad I'm out of it. Because I never remember this. When I was in in this crazy stuff. Yeah. There was a weird set Sunday that something was going on in Cleveland a power struggle between Hugh Jackson the head coach and Todd Haley offensive coordinator. And then they're both out the door. They've got it the coaching staff, especially on the offensive side of the ball. This is a team that was not done. This is a team that had showed promise how much do you set this team back the rest of the way with all these changes? There had to be a lot going on behind the scenes to do this. It really doesn't make sense at this point. I've been a little frustrated with Cleveland you draft Baker Mayfield. Then you don't put them in. And I'm thinking to myself. Hey, you're not a playoff game put the guy, and he's the guy you selected on top of all these seven quarterback tyrod Taylor, then they put Mayfield in. And he does some good things. And it looks like they're making progress. And now you fire the head coach is an offensive guy and the offense coordinator. So what what are you doing? Baker mayfield. Maybe in the long run. This is the best thing for the franchise. But it doesn't make sense for your quarterback right now. But you know, you mentioned Baker Mayfield. And I'm spinning this forward. Coach thinking about how attractive this job is going to be come January. I think they're going to be lining up out the door, given the low expectations the great young players. They have and the presence of a quarterback who's going to be there for ten or fifteen years. I mean, I think this job so attractive even Tony Dungy has to stop and say Cleveland kind of close to Pittsburgh. My wife's from Pittsburgh played in Pittsburgh. You're you're right. And it should be an attractive job. You stockpiled? A lot of young talent. You've got them. Offense of weaponry. You got a an exciting quarterback. If you can get a Sean McVay type person to come in there. They can do the same thing. The Rams did there there is that type of talent there. And I think it's going to be harder than it was when Sean McVay fell into the Rams lap. Because as John Dorsey is looking for a name that would be obscure because we didn't know who Sean McVeigh was generally the fans out there that who's this guy. There's going to be plenty of people with name recognition who are kind of swirling around this. This is going to be a tough one for John Dorsey because I think there's going to be some established coach like Josh mcdaniels what if he's interested in this job. And they're thinking about you know, some guy who's unproven or less proven than mcdaniels. It's going to be tough sell for the fan base, which is going to be desperate. I think to have a coach that they can look at. It and say here we go. Now, we're going to start winning championships. And that's the problem. A lot of times people do get desperate for that big name. And and that's what they want. And that's what they fall into. But you have to look at Sean McVay and Mike Tomlin. You know, those are you have to have convictions you have to have courage to do that. I remember a in Tampa nineteen Ninety-six Jimmy Johnson was the guy that did the buccaneers wanted. And then when he took the dolphins out they wanna Steve Spurrier and the people were extremely disappointed when I got hired. He was like oh, Jimmy Johnson. Steve burns. We got this assistant coach from the Minnesota Vikings. It didn't might up anything, but you've got to have convictions and pick the person like Sean McVay that you believe in can can do what your organization needs done. I think there is reason for some excitement for Browns fans because it just look I I mean Hugh Jackson, and I put them in the same category. Coach has a guy like north Turner. And Wade Phillips very very good at being a coordinator. But when it's time to go to that next job, and you know, how fundamentally different it is. It's a different skill set. And some guys just can never. Really adapt to that job of being in charge. And and I think the sooner a north Turner Wade Phillips Hugh Jackson realizes, maybe my my lane is to be a coordinator, you can have long term success. Maybe when some Super Bowls and have a good legacy. And they had a lot of being the head coach is picking the right staff. And when you go through different staffs, and you bring people in and it just doesn't fit you're not running. You know, how do you say? Two thirds of the way through the halfway through the season. When when you said, hey, I'm giving Todd Haley total control of this offense. When I hire him and then one third of the way through I need to take more rains on the offense. It just didn't make sense. You told me a few weeks ago? The folks that fosters barbershop had their non-refundable tickets to Atlanta for Super Bowl fifty three. And I what's the feeling now that Ryan Fitzpatrick is the quarterback again and Jameis Winston has been yanked. I it's a tough situation for the bucks. The feeling is hey, we picked this guy number one. And here we go. Again, we hit Benny Chester Bardia as the number one pick and that didn't pan out for us than we we've gone through all these quarterbacks and high tech, and we just haven't gotten that franchise guy. But there is excitement we can get back in this race. We saw what fits did early in the season. And if he can bring that back our defense is playing a little bit better. I think as excitement the Ryan Fitzpatrick, maybe can spark up in the second half. But inside that building I tell you. There's gotta be disappointment that hey, we we might have missed our our way on a number another number one pick and it really. Mazing to think the buccaneers has been around since nineteen Seventy-six coach they have never signed a quarterback. They drafted to a second contract. And we assumed it was a given that would happen with Jameis Winston. But right now in the balanced, what advice would you have for him because we use a very emotional guy. He really wants to be great. He wants the team to do. Well, we saw him on the sideline he was upset on Sunday. And this is the first time he's ever had to deal with a benching what would you say to him to get him to buy into what's going on with him on the sideline and Ryan Fitzpatrick plank? I would say he's got a number of change. You've got thirty one other teams looking at you. So, hey, here's what you have to. And my dad you say the same thing to me all the time. What are you going to do to make the situation better? The best thing you can do. Now is be great teammate is study hard to be prepared. Ryan Fitzpatrick could get hurt the first snap of the game. So you've gotta be ready. Make yourself. Great in practice. Your teammates. No, you're. Still there and let the other thirty one teams know that you're still preparing and you want to be good. And we we've seen it happen before. All he has to do is look at Balkan was history. Doug Williams left here and went to a Super Bowl Steve Young left here and went to multiple Super Bowl. So don't think this is the end of the line prepare for the future. We got a big game on Sunday night NBC Aaron Rodgers the Packers and Tom Brady New England Patriots. And this debate of which of the two is the greatest of all time. And how does Peyton Manning factor into that decision? You may be able to weigh in on that. But where do you put on the on the all time list just focusing on Rogers and Brady where would you put one versus the other? You know, I it's so hard. And I I was asked this question before and I I gave my ballot. And I have Brady ahead of I had excuse me. I had Aaron Rogers ahead of Tom Brady for one reason only the mobility and the. Tough to defend Brady's opposite got the Super Bowl the pedigree. He's done it for years if you factor longevity and staying at the top for fifteen sixteen years, then you have to lean towards Brady if you reverse the situations, you know, and put Tom Brady and Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers in New England does Aaron Rodgers have multiple Super Bowls working with Bill Belichick. So it it's a question. You really can't answer. We're going to see two of the greatest ball time. And maybe on the field for the last time together. And we saw how close the Packers came on Sunday to knocking off the Rams it really does feel like a one man band to a large extent as Aaron Rodgers gets healthier and healthier. Do you see the Packers becoming a viable contender in the NFC? I think they will because as our friend Rodney Harrison pointed out there, there's probably no super team in the NFC. The the Rams are playing very well. They're undefeated new. Orleans only has one loss, but they both have flaws on defense that they've got these high octane offense offenses so Green Bay, you know, they play the Rams as well as you can play them in Los Angeles. And Aaron Rodgers was probably maybe ninety percent. And they're receiving core was just getting back going Bramble cops first game back. So they've got to feel like you know, what on offense is going to be better as the season goes on. I was very impressed with the the Green Bay defense. I didn't think they could hang in there against the Rams like that. But they show some different pressures. They had some guys in in the secondary were covering and competing. So I think as a season rolls on you could see Green Bay sneak in there, and they could give people a run and facing the Rams a great preparation for the Packers defense go against the patriots offense that I don't know whether it was the absence of Sony Michelle last night member rob gronkowski doesn't seem to be the guy. He was last year. But they had a heck of a time moving the ball and scoring. Points getting touchdowns instead of field goals until the fourth quarter. And it makes me wonder is this the start of a negative trend for the patriots. Well, they've always been able to run the ball especially in in the red zone. And you have so much of Brady and the weaponry. And and gronkowski's your plan all these pass defenses. And then they've always had runners waves pounded in and last night. They didn't have that they couldn't run in the red zone..

"sean mcvay" Discussed on Mornings with Keyshawn, Jorge & LZ

"Out of the picture you've got indomitable sue apparently most interested in the saints the titans and the rams and during these owners meetings in orlando and definitely want to get into some other elements of those as well sean mcvay in less snead are very confident at their chances that indomitable sue will end up a ram mcveigh said during a reception for attend ease at the at the meetings quote that can't be anything but good news for us or look when you look at all the variables in terms of what soon maybe looking for right now let's take money off the table because one he's made a lot of it and then also to the three teams you mention there's a small differences in terms of what we'll be able to offer if you use your bottle and look at the salary cap it was available so then you ask yourself what does he want to do he probably wants to to win at this point you start your career with detroit lions you go down to miami you got one playoff appearance in what ten something like nine seasons or having long he's been in the league so when you think about what he maybe maybe to plan for payers if wanting detroit but if you think about you know how hard he's worked how great of a player he is and yet he may potentially retire with absolutely nothing in terms of legacy i'm sure he wants to shore that up we'll plus to actually i mean you mentioned legacy his legacy is more about getting kicked out of games dirty i mean as far as that i mean that was definitely the beginning in terms of people still remember it though i mean yeah but i don't think it is the immediate thing that comes to your mind the problem is is that i don't think anything actually really come to your mind because he went to miami and he didn't put up the same sort of numbers and he wasn't doing the same sort of things that got him kicked out of games and he wasn't really playing primetime anybody wasn't making playoffs.
