"Season premiere of the PGA Tour. The Farmers Insurance open from Torrey pines. With the NFL going to 18 weeks, that moved the NFL all the way up another week, so it closes out February 13th. What it does is that now falls on a weekend now that normally the golf would be running unopposed to the playoff action on championship weekend. That makes sense to you? Yeah, yeah, for sure. So San Diego is what we call a members insurance open for joy primes. That normally was the week between the AFC NFC championship weekend and the Super Bowl. Right. Alas, that open weekend was one of the highest rated golf events of the year. Right. And it's beautiful. People live in their life I carelessly in the dead of winter, et cetera, et cetera. So now what our folks in concert with the tour have done in a very, I think, very cool thing that Sean McManus and David verse who came up with, again, which a monaghan's blessing is that Friday and Saturday will be the CBS broadcast days. The turtle will start on Wednesday and we'll be into prime time on Friday and Saturday nights with the third and fourth rounds. So even on Friday it'll be on CBS on CBS. Big network from 5 until 8 eastern on the big door. That's not playing on Sunday. Right. Okay. So it's not playing with it. That's next week. It's going to have a big field. And it's going to be on prime time. Now, up to 8 o'clock. So we're saying it's prime time. And we'll wrap it with this. I mean, all of this scheduling that you're mentioning, we're all getting geared toward and headed towards where we get the Super Bowl on presidents day weekend. Are they going to add the extra game addict? When do you think we're going to get there? How many more years? I'm out of fan of extending the season by another week. I would have been perfectly happy by Tom Brady expressed recently if we kept it the way it was for the records and everything it felt right to me in 16 games. I mean, I would rather not see it go to 18. It does feel a little inevitable that maybe it's going to head that way. But just for next week's purposes, wherever we're going to be. Whether it's Nashville, or buffalo, or Kansas City, I'm going to call the golf and the football game on the same weekend. From the stadium. So we've seen a lot of remote broadcasting these days calling golfing. You're going to call the golf in San Diego potentially from the booth in Buffalo. If buffalo hosts next week with snow banks on the perimeter of the stadium, I'll be 2500 miles away from Torrey pines, calling the golf Friday and Saturday night from the stadium on CBS and then turn around and call the championship game on Sunday afternoon. We're going to be the early game next week. We're going to be the 3 o'clock game. I would imagine out of all the sports golf would have to be the most difficult to do that way remotely. Am I right?.

"Being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. You know, I sit here and I've had two years work on this speech. Because so I I can't screw this one up right as well. Um, but you know, they cut it down and I and I do think about how do you How do you put it into Eight minutes could speech. You know everything that you just capsize that you talked about the people that helped more who you are, and then you know, then you go out there and you're going that The pay the field and you're battling. You know the word come back and run on top and all the people that were so you know, a part of that, not just the people that do that you were in there battling with but To support people, the family and everything else. So I'm gonna try and do it in a manner which will be a little unique because a lot of times people have had 15 20 minute speeches where you can kind of go chronologically. You know when you try to cut it down to eight minutes, which are given us in eight minutes state speech should do this year. Um, I think you just kind of I'm gonna take a little different approach than that. Well, you know, I'm glad they cut it down to eight minutes because I think there's so many people that have to speak right and used to be. There are people like Steve Young's dad that basically took the situation hostage and like spoke forever, and it's just it's too long. It's too long. I can't do it. You're better off eight minutes short. Get to the point and move. That's more memorable than going on. But I will also tell you that it's also a burden that you've had two years to have to write this, right? Yeah, that just sits on your mind like you need to just do it like you want a little time to think about it. Process it get to all the people that you want to thank, but too long is not good. I remember Jim Harbaugh asked me to speak to the University of Michigan football team a couple months on the bench. Bill every night. Every night. I thought about what I want to say, and my message would change and I'm like, I just got to go talk to this team already. That's got to get this done because that moment was was as meaningful to me. It's something like this is to you where you get to go talk and you want him to be just perfect and it will be great, and I'm glad that they did, because it would be hard last year to talk about celebration. Of this nature when the country was in such turmoil, right? I mean, just do with everything that was going on. So they did it right by postpone it for another year, and I think now I think would be an opportunity to Just have the right perspective. You know, it seems like we're kind of on the other side of this pandemic. Things are still starting to open up again. Suddenly we can't relax. I understand all that, But you're starting to see some degree of normality coming back, so it'll be nice to be able to then get to be a little reflective. And what's also interesting to me as we reflect on your life and your career in your book. Heart and steal. Written with Michael Holly is the fact that you have now been at CBS just about as long as you coached in Pittsburgh. So there is some 14 or 15 year old football fan out there that never saw you coach a game but has seen you On CBS, which is hard for me to process because I still I look at you as this coach. I look at you as that guy, but some of these young fans of today I have never seen you in that role. Is that odd to you to think that you've now been on TV? Almost as long as you are the head coach of the Steelers. I mean, this will be my 15th year at CBS and I coach 15 years and in Pittsburgh, so The CBS has been so great honestly with Sean McManus, David Berson and The platforms had to work with JB. The entire time and grew Marie entire time. I mean, it's been, you know, and now we got made. Phil stepped down since into the studio. It's really been. It's five guys that just have great respect for each other. Um It's a great platform at you know, I you know, I'm blessed to be able to be there and continue to try to get better at it. Um, so much respect to the game and try to give the viewpoint of you know what we see on the outside, as you well know, doing what you do. There's a lot more It goes on the on the inside of those walls. Uh, and then what we see on the outside, So, um, But you know, it really is. You sit back and just think. Wow. This is my 15th year of doing this, like you said. They're people. Some people come up. They say, aren't you that Time Warner cable guy? Oh, yeah. Yeah, I used to be used to be a coach to you know, so it's uh so it It is funny because you're right. There's a lot of people never see me, coach. And is there any way you mentioned the book that there have been owners who have called you? How many owners I'm curious how many owners have called reach out? Try to get you to come back to coach. Well, not not many. Not many recently. I mean, I think there's been enquiries or with you know, I go back to 2010. When I wrote that book, You know, I just lost my wife. I wasn't sure he was there a chance I could go back in and I think I talked to a lot more people than Um and I just wanted to listen. But the more I listen, it never really got serious because I kept thinking and this new That what it would entail and you know, and I didn't have the family or support group around me at the time. I didn't want to be. I didn't want to do it by myself. And and I just there was more to life. I had to figure out where I was in my life and you know, and then and then I just lost my wife and then all signed me. Veronica V. She's a musician. You know, Jets fan, um and so that's tough. Yeah, Yeah. Yeah, It was tough for her for I sympathize with your bare and will show up, but, uh, You know, the more and and she was so supportive and say, Listen, if you want to do it like I get it. I always get around that time It was around December, people would start making inquiries. You know you interested in you know, and people like Oh, well. You know, and the more I talk through it, I go. I feel like in here in the city. I got some normality. And I always wanted that normality and I Never got to the point where I was really even that serious and then it got this, You know, then I just start saying No, I'm really not that interested because I didn't want you know, I had this new life transition to this new not that was still trying to better TV and Yeah, I had an off season. I'm making map. Had an off season. Now we can travel. We start doing some trap. We started going to Italy. Start point, Israel. The My wife has family. It's in Israel. A Book for Beginning Flower Gardeners With Allison and Sean Mcmanus of Spoken Garden

"The recently invited sean. Alison to come on. Today is that they have a brand new book coming out called growing plants and flowers. And it's a perfect topic for a perfect time. I don't even think you could have predicted why it was so perfect. When you first told me you were working on this book but with covid. It's so perfectly timed. So why don't you give us a snapshot a little snapshot about the book. And then we'll we'll talk about all the things we love which is growing flowers. All those new gardeners out there especially from and our our book is called the first time gardener growing plants and flowers all know how you need to plant intended outdoor areas using eco friendly methods. I love it. It's just a catchy for his roles off you're right. I didn't mention the first part of the title is the first time gardener. And that's sort of been your audience all along through your your youtube channel and your podcast right. We definitely want to help beginning gardeners but we feel like the book can also benefit a wider audience. Well oh totally learn. Well i i think so too. And we'll we'll share a couple you know. Interior spreads for people to see on the On the show notes for today's episode. But i was looking at it too and thinking what you've you have. It is updated information even for people who think they know how to garden because maybe they have been. But you're integrating a lot of sustainable practices. I noticed in in also like a dish. Additional information pollinators. Maybe people who've garden for a long time just haven't gotten caught up on those those practices. Yeah that's true. Our book is such a range of topics really. You know. it's it's very broad view of a lot of different guarding practices. An older view of someone coming into gardening wanting to know more but not really understanding really how plants grow what they need to grow have had a handle them what to do. What impacts on the environment surrounding them. And how that impacts them versus how the impact themselves and the environment again an all hourly it. It's an interesting thing. A lot of people don't understand that as were soil moisture. and he. it's it's just it's amazing to think about things so he tried to come from broadview green all those things together to explain to a new guard. Yeah i just at the table of contents here. It's just kind of a natural progression of how you would get started and work your way through you know. I'm sure that people just want to get started and plant right away. But you're slowing slowing down a little bit and saying let's talk about the basics. I that is so true. I get a lot of questions on youtube and they're just want instant gratification. Instant answers and they're they're great questions. It's helpful to understand more of that broader scope of that foundation. Really just jump in. Let's do it's like well you're going to get more out of it if you understand that a little bit more i. Yeah it's interesting. I mean. I think people do maybe cheat a little bit and just go by that flat of primrose at home depot. Which is what we're seeing right now and you can do that. But that's a little bit different than committing to a garden or yeah so it's interesting. You really zeroed in on ornamental gardening. And there's no vegetable to be seen in this book right. We don't really speak to. I mean we love growing vegetables and then it's not what we teach

"That's where i think the You know the beauty and the power. And the doc is that there is an ending and it is uplifting And it's it's not as is we now from a lot of child stars on sometimes those endings. You've mentioned todd renovated other people have in the past You know these kinds of endings are often tragic. And i think in tigers case there is a triumph. That you that you really can't even manage mostly because if he doesn't have that it sort of ends with you know the arrest and then Basically him not playing well for months before the masters. i mean. You know what it's championship he wins. There that's something but that's that's nothing compared to winning the masters now. This is going to be a really dumb question. I'm going to rely on you to help me out at someone who's not a huge golf guy. I mentioned the list of people who i thought you know. Came across unlikable or badly to me in watching. That and i don't remember from the time i guess i should. That's a bad job. No one came across worse or seymour unlikable in that documentary than billy paint. I would have become the biggest tiger. Now listen tiger cheating and having all these women. That's his sort of personal business and i can tell you just from being in this business it. That is probably a four on the scale of one to ten out of athletes stories. I've heard over the years. I would have had so much respect for tiger. If he would have said. I'm never playing in this tournament again. Based on what billie i've i mean bryant gumbel. I thought summed it up perfectly. it was completely disgusting. What billy payne did well. I don't know. Billy payne was the chairman of the masters At the time when tiger king back in two thousand and ten and i was At cbs news. At the time. And sean mcmanus actually asked me my boss asked me to go down there and cover it on so i was there during that press conference in i spent i think i did ten or twelve stories for cbs news. During that week. And i was shocked. That billy payne would use that moment in that podium to say what he did on i thought it was online on. I thought it was Wasn't that my mother used to say there's time and place for everything that was neither the time nor the place him to condemn agar woods on personally in into delve into his personal life. The way he did. And and i think that it was so self righteous feeling of of self righteousness that who is billy payne and this is now. I think there's there's no better commentator that they could have found for that moment than bryant. I think he knocks it out of the park in terms of Of how affected him. And that's a powerful powerful black voices. There is in our business on in. So i mean i'll leave it that but i think you're right. It was one of those cringe worthy moments. When you were there A lot of this stuff when you go back and you see it in the doc on you know that that cascade of as i said before that went when the comeback or were that windfall hits everybody just piles on and you mentioned social media now it would have been one hundred times worse now but even back then that's really the beginning of you've got. Tmz you've got the tabloids. I you know i remember..

"Meyer the most significant baby the way left, obviously, but is Meyer the most significant figure in Gator football history? I can't say yes to that. I think it's gotta be 10 T Will Spurrier. It's got a little Spurrier definitely, but Tim Tebow. What we've put Overmyer. You know, they were the same like he was. He was the quarterback. Yeah, but Tim Tebow has his legendary man so I wouldn't And I think I think Spur you're probably is well. I'm saying, I'm saying if there was a hierarchy, it's probably Spurrier. And then it was definitely Spurrier. Okay, several girl and then and then I put Tebow there, Tio And then Meier because Myers he Like he's He's bounced that everywhere. You know what I mean? You know he was great when he was there that leased the team was great when he was there, but he left under Somewhat murky circumstances. Yeah, Yeah, yeah, I got you. But what about the dudes who created Gatorade? They probably should be in the ring at this point. Yeah, you know, going through two a days in the county, Florida son? Can't members names? Doctors? Somebody Cade, Dr Kate, something like that. Can't sixties. I believe yes. Late sixties early seventies, maybe true. That commercial's funny, I would say Spurrier would be one. I'd probably put Tim Tebow I put him in front of Urban Meyer's while I definitely would. But to me one to you Talk about Rushmore for that school. I'm sure I'm forgetting some old figures. But at least you know, somewhat recently. I put superior and I put Timmy want to That's tough to argue with that, and let's see if it's if we're able to argue with this. Adrian Wilde Hrabowski. We mentioned it, ESPN. Dropped his bombs in more ways than one Robert his e mail bombs, too. He's been suspended without pay for his belief you email to a Missouri senator and players, including LeBron Well, I think I may have just had a run on sentence. The punctuation I got. It's all LeBron and other players have actually had his back with the free world's tag. Is Whoa. Jizz punishment justified. I believe it's justified. You know you have a right to write whatever you want, or to say whatever you want, but you also have the right to get admonished, uh, either verbally or through some active punishment. By your company. I mean, if if we're on an e mail chain, with Sean McManus day burst in or toddler hail, or Chris Olivera warm or charter of anybody in any of our bosses that people that are directly connected to our show on our job. And we wrote that and I would expect to probably get suspended. You really would. So whatever you know, now, the grant that painted this was in his boss, But it became very public when you you attack A. Nobody sent it from an email. I know I know what I'm saying. But but it was not towards his. It wasn't directed to his ESPN Boston. Oh, no clear, though. I get that so, But yes, it was any Michael fired, he said true, too. True, whomever I mean, get me that's not gonna fly. Obviously, it's at Senator. But what I'm saying it's from it was the ride from his ESPN email. Yes, yes, I know. I hear what you're saying. Yes, but still When you're saying something like that, to a senator who's likely to, you know, make it public yet. I mean, you're kind of setting yourself up for this. LeBron has his back saying free. Whoa, JJ, And I mean a lot of he's gonna be suspended. For what? Well, I mean, who does he got? He's fine. Two routes. It doesn't doesn't matter. The season doesn't start for another 16 days already center of the few days. Exactly so he'll be He'll be fine. But I get with the athletes are saying I'm saying, you know, we don't If we don't disagree. We have a right, Tio. Agree. Have a grievance with the or tell you how we feel. You just got to be more tactful. Got to be more tactful and listen, I know this questions about wood, but Here is what are my true problems with LeBron James consistency, you know, Remember what happened in China? Yeah. LeBron didn't say a whole lot about China. Not a word..

"You're not. Goodbye. Cal. Come on, man. It's the best of the best justify having you win there. What are you gonna come in the week of and do something like that? That was really bad. Hey hawk headphones. You do you have a look of shock on your face over how bad that was or did I ripped his golden ticket, and you want him to be there? I it's both honestly like I didn't know that you could RSVP that poorly that was one of the worst RCPP's ever. No, it wasn't. It was the worst RSVP ever he lent market, Chicago off the hook so well right there. That was horrible. I would've loved to have heard from Cal. I find it very interesting. I just obviously doesn't deserve. So do I which is why put them in the first place, but I can't keep them in, if he's going to do that, you cannot or something like that. That was, honestly the worst call I've ever heard from a quote smack off caller. That's what I'm saying. All right. Thanks. You just had a look of utter despair and shock on your face. I want to know why that was. Cal. I can't let you win. If you're gonna make a call like that much less in or as call like that, that's not gonna work. You force my Ambro I put you in because I wanted you to be in. I put you in because you earn your way in you left me. No choice. You forced my hand. Blame me if I didn't rip that thing out of your hand, somebody at work for CBS would have. Man David bursts probably would have done himself. Sean McManus probably would have done it himself. You got one show in which you earned that thing back, one show, boomer size in would with out of your hand. Come on cow. Like I respect that you tried to call in right before because if you don't do anything at all your coward, and you're laying in the weeds, and nobody respects that. But if you're going to call in you better be better than that. Where the hell that segment. That's segment was supposed to be used to describe ways in which you can be on TV on Friday for this Mack off and somehow got away from me. That's a segment that I cannot get back. And the reason I say that is I've got Nick nurse coming up next. I'm not moving that I'm all about that segment. Also Bryce into Shambo coming up sometime in our number three. I'm not sure exactly. When so I'm gonna try and tell you exactly how you can be on TV without being on the show. You'll be on the show but without being in the field, and that's coming up in the third hour. So Nick nurse in about ten minutes after that Bryson Shambo sometime. No cow. You can't call back today. You can't get run and then call back the next hour. "Executive producer Randy market, socio producer man at the controls. Chris black carbon will be back in here tomorrow. Thank you for having me, the Waddle and Silvy show for being now keeping the studio boys. How are ya? How you doing? I'm good. How are you? Good fun week. Oh with that. Good spectacular as shared for Francesco Molin. Aren't you say that what am I gonna do you have money on it? Tiger more importantly money against him. Yeah. Really? Yeah. I'm happy one. Congratulations. I mean when it's all said and done you earned. He maneuvered his his way around. The course rather a marvelously somewhat conservatively over the course of time good for him. You know, what's interesting. And I think it speaks to the maturity of him as a player. I mean, it was time. There was a time where he just distanced himself from anybody birdie, birdie birdie eagle birdie burying, nobody. Nobody was close. He played. That course yesterday like a surgeon. I listened to most of it because I was driving back from Cincinnati. Then I saw a lot of the replay Oculus now. Mike Tariq, I did. He was fantastic. Let me tell you something. If you don't think you can get a good feel for golf on the radio someone you just aren't golf fans, and you would never tune into the radio to listen to a tournament. But for someone who is a fan. I thought they did an excellent job. I thought Mike Tarita Torika rather leading the way was outstanding. I. Actually was his next best thing to actually watching. It was really fantastic. The whole way through really preferred to see. But I'm glad that they moved it up. So that the weather didn't play a role great column that Richard Detroit where he interviewed the producer CBS golf who's been there since ninety seven. And he took him into all the decisions, Sean McManus. The president's CBS was sitting next to him while they did all this in the truck. And he said we kept telling Jim. Let it breathe let the crowd noise takeover. And that's why you did not hear a lot of Nance and Faldo as it came down the final hole there. I will your was it you or someone was saying maybe it was boil this morning. Someone was saying that and I thought the same thing I'm seventeen and eighteen they had already crowned him. And I thought look out here kept cook could make this birdie putt on seventeen can make the birdie putt at eighteen tiger could meltdown eighteen like, I still was nervous until he finally. Yeah. Tapped in Tepi, the little tap tap be for the bow equal, but and maybe would have played it differently. Yes. The luxury hand though. He'd go. He knew nobody was burning. Nobody got close. I just thought they were crowning early. That's that's what I thought they were letting the world known. They're hoping everybody was going to end. So they can see the coronation. Did you congratulate you're on winning the station pool? Did not have finally a station. Pull the good kid wins. Well done, sir. I didn't know about the my no one else in the past didn't bring any money for even though both of the guys crap the bed a little bit later double bogey in twelve and then Francesco double bogeys. Could you have Frencesco Jon Rahm in full crying was Francesco? It looked a little bit. He's cracking was closed in the eye. He cried the way play. I tell you that it was really windy. I thought it was a little Adam Morrison ask. Yeah. You know in the game. I thought he was shedding tears. You should also congratulate Sylvie I own him an expensive bottle of wine for our lifetime. Tiger bad. Why don't you don't wanna touch me? I've had the flu battle while. You're over it. What the hell you doing here? Then. I am. Oh, they don't think they don't think you're on this anymore. You're is what I do. I work not farmer. You're not out in the field. But probably should not have been here. Thursday. I do have some wipes if you would like because wonderful though on how Friday ended up being gone I needed. I needed fry or you did. There. You did. In the gladiator pool. Didn't we you may have between the two you now. No, no. I'm going to buy you. No, no. I don't think the money was ever kicked it. And I think that there were actually other people. Yes. Gladdy gladiator Poos the last person to miss the two MRs show because of an illness. Friday was the first thing twenty plus years that I've called off of work first time in two decades that I called off of were being sick. He had to be hurting for being say, well, I mean once they once they diagnose you that. You have the flu shouldn't you you you can't you shouldn't be around people because you're just you didn't miss work when you had that sinus issue, and you had to go get things done over and over. You're just came to work. Never when you had surgery for that thing. Well, that's. Him for that. Taken off table. That was a plan to go in there, and they had to put magnets in your body. The the gladiator pool made an exception for that. By the way, the president has made an announcement. Did you see this President Donald Trump has announced I spoke to at Tiger Woods and congratulate him on the great victory and yesterday's masters and inform them because of his incredible success, and comeback, and sports and more importantly life. I will be presenting him with the presidential medal of freedom. Wonderful. Congratulations. Congratulations go out to him. There you go wonderful job, Sylvia. Need you to weigh in on this kid my poll question tonight? What is the most likely outcome of tonight's star? By you Darvish the cubs plan on the road against the Miami. More is more crapping option quality start he pitches poorly or your co asked me to put this one in. He leaves injured your call. That was nothing bad upon anybody. What is that about? And black voted. He'll leave injured. Really? Yeah. He'll includes a blister. This one includes two feigning injury. That includes that you guys. I here's what my prediction is. I predict five innings of no hip baseball. He will flirt with a no hitter into the sixty mile down right now. Cow town in print it I'll give you the play of the day. He's by one thirty five. That's a really talented cubs team against a team that doesn't have a lot of major league players. You should pound the cubs tonight. And wattle was on the opposite end the last time he was. Yeah. I plus one fifty five that's correct free money. Yeah. Until tonight, slowly. But surely who's pitching for the Marlins. Let me look I mean, I I was gonna say probably. Yes. I won't know him regard. I the way I gave Waddle the winning exactly the other day you give me two favorites. But one of the horses that finished it was not a favorite in the morning line. But one in front in the three they were truck Trump. Yeah. It was it was so Sean dollars paid seven dollars. Team. But listen, I ask for your picks. I appreciate it day of the comeback. We're talking about Tigers come back tonight. We'll be Darvish is come back. You Darvish pronounces himself. I'm back tonight and Sixers will pronounce themselves back tonight. I don't know why said that. I saw some of the some of the dogs in the east the Najib. And the Sixers lose it will be Trevor Richards on the hill. Trevor I think I would probably play the cubs tonight. What do I gotta give up for that? Minus one thirty five. That's that's value. Other you already playing from a hole with me play. Chase. You gotta chase man. You gotta chase. By the way. We'll talk to you your former co worker. Todd Hollandsworth is gonna join us from the booth to set up the Yu Darvish appearance at four. I think he's with us tomorrow. Good. So Holly today at four greeny at five guys that was the most excited I've been over a championship. They didn't involve my team was all my life. Didn't know what was going on because I was quarantined in her bedroom. She thought it was cheering over a cubs game. That's how how much I was cheering down the stretch for Tiger Woods and the fifteen. I'm the sixteenth with a miss Capcom birdie putt on seventeen. Do you think he's more popular now than he was I was more of a sympathetic figure? That's why he's more popular and more popular overall. Look, I've said this for a long time. I know they're going to be I think someone called you today. Cap about it. There will be people that call you don't like Tiger Woods. I'm totally cool with that just for me as I've said a million times making a million and one I don't look to Tiger Woods and comfort for yet to be my moral, compass so going to having come over and give us a marital, you know, speech or a anything else. Give me advice how to get away from a nine. I just love watching the best in the world on the sports, you know, arena in the sports arena. Do their thing getting it done. And it was you know, like, but what's that Allie made her watch the eighteenth with or you made her watching TV come upstairs and watch my wife watch the whole thing with us. Yeah. She's not a golf person. But in she wars mine, do you know, what my wife first reaction was after tiger. You're making me watch. No. It was a tiger observation. He's bald. Yes. It was only. God. Look how old he looks when he took the hat off because he still looks young with his fit, and right and he's in good shape. And then he takes the half. You're like Tigers old. I mean think about it. The last time he won a major the White Sox won the World Series. That's in the White Sox World Series seems like a lifetime ago teen years now my wife had the same you. She said, but look at all the ball guys. Like, you your store should go after tiger. How much would it cost tiger to do that? We've heard numbers that are lacquer got paid how much would they have to pay tiger to put him on the billboard? Oh, God five billion at least guess who came to town. The company to mine was that signature flight support where the teams fly in and out, and he looked and went LeBron. Lebron was here supposedly last summer getting some hair stuff. So he came here supposedly, he has he has added some some hair. Yeah, I'm all for it. Listen, if you want to you want to grass to grow on top again, go for it. I think it's per again. It's just it's subjective. You do what you want? I think he's a better go than you know, putting something fake up on God. Agreed. But this is me, man. I I'm with you. If I was followed challenged like you. I just shaved like how bad was my hair we work together. It was on Michael did the same thing. He's the greatest ever. Yeah. Michael recognized it early in make it down upstairs never going to be without hair. You've got a great head of hair. You've got to have the head for it though to be able to pull off ball member Pippen shaved decided all the ridges in his right? You can't do that. A tiny head. I've got an awkward head. My head's platinum back. I mean, you don't wanna be bald. My if I was bald. I would look like Darth Vader's head when the helmet I came off of it. You don't want to see it. You don't see it? So at some point I'm going to have to if I you know this year your life my drought-stricken thinning right here. Looks like a drought-stricken cornfield. If some point that gets too thin, I'm going to have to go see those guys I'm talked to them. Why don't you get out ahead of the problem for not Charlie? Well. Go get it. That is the amount that is estimated that Americans will wager Super Bowl legally three legally or illegally. Say well, let's as by the American gaming associate. So that's probably I don't remember what what they're putting out. But hey, this is now the biggest sporting event in the country with some states having legalize sports betting. This is the last time I'm guessing CBS, Sean McManus has said that they will not discuss anything that has to do with sports betting on the Super Bowl broadcast on CBS. I'm guessing that's the last time that will ever happen moving forward. The broadcasters will have to address it. I'm going to give you the breakdown which you were talking about twenty two point seven million American adults plan to bet on Sunday's game. At one point eight million of those Americans plan to bed illegally through bookie. Let's call them many with millions more likely to bet illegally through offshore online. "It to the. You know, the the dynasty the likes of which I don't think we're ever going to see again, quite frankly, this many AFC championship games in a row ten Super Bowls. I don't think you're ever going to see that. So that obviously is a big story line, Sean McVeigh Jared Goff. Great storylines. Also, you know, you've got the young coach and the young quarterback going against the veteran coach and their veteran quarterback that couldn't be better two really good running games Sony. Michelle is going to be a star in this game. I really do you have C J Anderson and Todd Gurley on the other side. So I think if we get a close game, which I hope we do we could have one of the most compelling super Super Bowls in a long long time. Sean McManus is my guest. Sean got a couple of minutes left. I want to ask you back in one thousand nine hundred eight you lead CBS corporations efforts to bring the NFL back to CBS. Yup. What do you remember about that time? And how significant was it for the company to be broadcasting NFL games? Once again, I remember that when CBS lost the NFL the network went from being the number one rated network to being. The third rated network. We had lost a lot of our prestige. The sports division was even though they had a lot of good events like the massacres and the final four the sports division was kind of floundering and it became evident that without the NFL. It's tough to have a fully-fledged operating television network. So I worked for solid year with my number two Tony Petit in figuring out a way to get the NFL back to CBS. It was I always remember the day that we finally got it and I got assigned piece of paper from Paul Tagliabue. Who's the Commissioner brought up to my office? I saw the sign piece of paper. It was surreal. I mean, I couldn't actually believe that we had the NFL back on CBS. Oh for for me. When I look at my career. That's the most satisfying moment of my career.

"I just have a lot of respect for Tom Brady and what he's done over his career. And for me. I'm twenty three. "Or do they leave you guys being talked to after the game? We've got we've got Sean McManus. He's in the truck kinda overseeing everything and David Bersin. The president is normally in a quality control, truck and and shorts in there. He's the chairman of CBS, and he'll make a suggestion or two in in the commercial. He's kinda over viewing it from there. Versus in the truck watching it. I think is the viewer at home with watch it. So make sure he gets a sense of what the viewer's seeing. And then Steve Kerr sick and herald, Brian are coordinating producer and executive producer. They sit in the truck, and and they might have some idea about graphics or something like that that they could pass along to the AD. But for the most part, they let us do our jobs, and and when they've got a suggestion that they may chime in. Last one, Mike, and that is what is something you should know about the process for the people in the broadcast truck this Sunday that they don't or that you would love viewers to know. Here's a little bit about what we do. Boy, that's a good question. What would be something viewers would know should know? Just some something that you'd like. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I'm just saying, hey, we're trying our best. I mean, we we we want to get the right replays up. We wanna get the right shots up. And we wanna make the game as good as we can for the viewer at home. We want the viewer to leave the game thinking, I saw all the replays. I needed to see they had some interesting graphics. I saw the shots. We needed to. You know, we needed to see we just wanna make sure that the viewer leaves the telecasts and and feel satisfied. "How are you able to focus this fight the negative fan base? Aka the haters. I don't know. What do we do about the haters? We love him. We love we love back because we don't hate back. We appreciate it. And we love them. And we wish them the best in their life. About that example. Tom Brady's now for the kids the children young young child was able to ask a question Tom Brady. And that's how he answered it the go right there. So you didn't hear what Wade Phillips said? I did not know I find way to not only be an outstanding football coach in the National Football League. But also, find him tremendously entertaining television personalities covering the Super Bowl James Palmer. Are you familiar with NFL network James Palmer from the NFL network? He wrote I asked Wade Phelps about planning for Tom Brady in the postseason. And what's the plan? This time around. He told me his plan was to get an earpiece with Tony Romo and to tell them. What's going to happen before each play? Good. Not a good way. There. Yeah. I brought this to the attention of everybody earlier. Oh, it was late last week. Or if it was yesterday, but CBS has said that there will be no mention of gambling and the broadcast. Why don't you find that odd? And it's nineteen. Yeah. That's very nineteen eighty five thousand nine hundred saying, hey, you know, gymnasts should look at Tony Romo in, you know, hey, how much do you have on the under in this game? What do you think about the first half? But to act like it's, you know, it's not we've we've learned it is not taboo, it's not taboo, it should not have to be avoided naturally. Don't force. Exactly. But there are moments. I think where we snicker, and it's one of the things that maybe some find endearing of an L Michael's broadcasts that he will slyly reference with that field goal puts them up by thirty. But for some people that was an important three pointer. What is what if the Rams are up twelve denied? And it's been an uncharacteristically low scoring game. And Greg airline is kicked four fifty yard field goals. Like wouldn't they bring up guys? Did you know you could get you could have gotten Greg? At one hundred fifty to one to win the MVP made the first kicker to win in VP ward in NFL history. And oh, by the way in Vegas. You could've gotten twenty five to one odds on him being the MVP. Yeah, we're like a corner that you're not expecting to get MVP odds like has has two picks. I don't know why that is viewed as a negative part of the broadcast potential. Yeah. Sean McManus who's the chairman of CBS said, basically the gambling's only legalize now in a few states in. It's not widespread enough for it to kind of encompass the whole country gonna wait till it's more widespread you so he's thinking, it's not look, I I I I I think that's kind of archaic way of thinking just because gambling is only legal in certain areas to think that it's it's not it's more common than most would admit marching Greco's here, Mark. Can you ask for Super Bowl fact of the day? What's our Super Bowl factor? The day three one two three three three seven seven six if you know the Super Bowl factor the day tomorrow. If you're caller Fifty-three, and you're correct you'll win how about this a one hundred dollar gift card to Portillo all my gosh. And that's waddles doing it again catering through Portillo's the Super Bowl. Tailgate? I can't wait. Are you gonna show up this time? I missed you missed like even even years. Like, I think I've missed Bret Saberhagen just missed too since you've been inviting me contingent from Cincinnati coming up. I think right. Yeah. And that's you Cincinnati. My brother you've met him Cincinnati kids. I think my buddy Phil Vogel, my best friend from high school who's probably gonna fill. Yeah. Great, dude. Your brother? I love you, brother. My brother's. It's always a great crowd, and it's going to be forty degrees. So don't worry about it. This is staff. Now, do you want me to go all GRANDE Torino, get off my lawn? You want me to go on? What's your take on this the weather? Yeah. Typical day for me in school in highschool. Oh, really? So now, you're going to downplay I can't downplay this because what's the coldest day ever experienced buffalo? I think like forty five below real. Yeah. Yeah. With about ten feet of snow, and you know, damn it. I used to get up in a dark pitch, Dr avicii five thirty in the morning and deliver papers said why would go to school? Yeah. That's right. We want to the school bus, which is about two blocks away though when you take a bus to a school got off got on another bus that took us downtown. It was like an hour and a half bus rides. Like if I lived in lake forest and went to Saint Ignatius down here. Wow. And during rush hour, so we never did our homework at home. It was bus work. I'll trade you the Latin for the math. You're on the bus. You just somebody's good mass. Somebody's good Latin. Somebody's gonna bother you. What time I I needed twenty. Can I get a twenty here? Yes. Typical old man exaggeration. That's what he said. No. But the temperature the all-time low temperature in the city of Buffalo New York is twenty below zero. That's real the real temperature. It's supposed to get to minus twenty seven year wind chill fifty five below right? Talking about wind chill forty five. Actual temperature was like twenty below. Okay. So then this is going to be worse. This could be the coldest day in everyone's lifetime in the city of Chicago. How bad it is not only are all the schools close tomorrow. Chicago cut is closed. David tweeting about it for a couple of days worth their while to open, and they don't want to have people as great as their places. "Bad. It was a lazy attempted. It's kind of like the today show jokes at this point to whenever I like. So it's the golf channel. Tiger tracker. At g see tiger tracker. Care. You would love this. Well, yeah, I just the farmers open. The farmers open is not tiger. I mean, you're not a true, whatever you say, whatever you say a CBS sports chiefs. Sean McManus was asked Wednesday of sports betting would be mentioned in the network Super Bowl fifty three broadcasts our policy is we don't discuss gambling information. That's apprised me. Then FOX responded two thousand and four would like their approach back. Wow. It's two thousand and nineteen leads legal sports gambling legal in most places. I mean seriously is being run by Jim Boylan. We're gonna have a gritty presentation for the game. You should ask. Todd ferment about this coming up at five. Probably will. Yeah. Probably will probably will drunk emancipate the wrong lift to the wrong home. Ooh, you've always got to check the license plate Cape. Elizabeth name police in Maine said drunken man took the wrong lift and tried to get into a house. He mistakenly thought was his own. How many times I've tried to get into lift my lift, and it is mine trying to get yours run kid, isn't it that I'm trying to get out of my lift get outta my leg. How often does that drunken lift show up at your house and guy thinks it's his his house as he's traveling. Well, that's good. Yeah. That's a positive. Yeah. Do you comparatively shop lift versus Uber. When you're ready to leave course cameras. I mean, usually they're relatively the same price. It's more a matter of who can get to you the quickest sometimes they'll one will be surged. Some like Uber is more likely to have a surge pricing and a lift is I always open both. Yeah. I usually do but more off unless it's like, you know, Barsha clearing out restaurants are clearing out that time, then everybody's get home sleep is more important for weight loss and cutting out late night snacks. "Thank you very much for joining us on a special Martin Luther King day edition of the Bloomberg business of sports. Yeah. And it says on the sheet here I'm supposed to set up topic too. So I'm gonna do it this way sports betting nobody, and I meet nobody. And they've got to watch I'm gonna get some direct tweets from this. I know this, but for my money if I need an expert on sports betting in the media. I am going to Novi underscore Williams. I can't tell you how many times I looked to my left when something's going on base. And I say Evan. What do I need to know? I'm not ashamed to admit. I don't know much about the I'm educating myself as we go, but this guy drills down, and I make fun of me. Because he's got a terrible Twitter handle. He's got a terrible hairstyle. But he certainly knows his world of sports betting. So you tell me, you know, the players have. Utah. Oh, your mother going to really, you know, the word Cavill ask you about your mother's gonna cavalier about that one. You tell me where twenty nine hundred is headed in sports eighteen obviously an insane year supreme court rules. Eight states legalize in the aftermath. Twenty one thousand nine is going to be a lot more states and be as more states come online. There's more critical mass. You're gonna start seeing this bleed into national advertising. You know, there's huge money there. You're going to see league starting to sign exclusive data deals, those are could be hundred million dollar deals. If not if not more you're gonna start seeing it on broadcast announcers that are talking openly about the spread the over under what's at stake here. Lock going question for you. Sean McManus at the Super Bowl media day at CBS said there will be no mention of sports betting of odds of anything on the Super Bowl broadcast, which I was a little surprised Novi Williams is this the last time the head of the sports division. He's news division. But the head of the sports division of the network shown the Super Bowl makes that come. I don't think the last time. Really surprised? I would said, you know, I mean right now, you know, the probably a fifth of the national audience for the Super Bowl is going to be in a place where you can gamble legally this year. Not even a mention. The over under the nothing the reason why leagues and T and TV. Broadcasters. Don't wanna do that is that when you do that you're talking to someone in Texas or California here essentially advertising, the black market, right? The way that people interact with the spread if you're living in Texas right now is that you're you're gambling offshore right? You're gambling with a with an illegal bookie. So they don't cater to your New Jersey customer. So as you know, every broadcast has has local spots. You know, if you live in New Jersey, and you're watching NFL games, you know, it's those local spots Arkham. They're the they're the MGM another William Hill, the grafting I think it's gonna take maybe a little while maybe another year before, you know, big events like the Super Bowl do address this. But there's no question that the creep is happening. And once New York gets online once Texas gets online once California's online everything is going to such we're not talking about. We're talking about the number of states you said, but frankly with all due respect to the smaller states, if I'm William Hill, if I'm if I'm draftkings this is about New York and California. Yeah. You gotta have it. That little Florida and a little Illinois in Texas when when does revenue for let's just say draftkings when does revenue go over fifty percent of those two states away from sports betting on me because right now still daily fantasy. It's about sports betting was what twenty five percent of draftkings revenue about now. So we had draftkings CEO Jason Robbins on this exact show a couple of months ago. And he said we asked him this exact question at what point do you become a gambling company daily fantasy company? He said it was gonna take two or three big states in the interim between that common. And now we've had Pennsylvania come online. That's a pretty big state yesterday. I would certainly think that if we were to get New York in two thousand nineteen which seems likely given where that legislature is and one of the other big ones, Illinois, certainly seems maybe the most next likely of of the big ones, I think those two those two states would probably put draft kings over the all right? Well, I can go back to something. You guys said if you have executive saying we're not gonna mention anything about gambling during the Super Bowl. Oh, that's going to happen pretty much forever. Because I'm sure a state like Utah will never approve this. So all it takes is one St. to say, no. And then you still have that in you. Yes. You'll have the local spots coming. You might be in by the way. I'm not surprised Joe will be the last. If it happens. I don't know. Join the drinking club. Remember? The value of data also going to be a major story twenty nine hundred massive, you know, and I'm going to go to the dark side of what you were talking about earlier about gambling and many moons ago twenty thirty years ago when I played poker. I thought. You know that I cried during that day. Way back in the Detroit area where you had poker? There was a place in Canada. When you say the Detroit area where you played poker. Like is this like some kind of Speakeasy that's what I'm getting. It's like now in Canada in Windsor. You can go you go over the bridge. Yeah. You could play in many times. There were many people now and this was before the casinos were center. Yeah. There were many people who I knew that had the this called the. Back alley games where they would go to somebody's house, and someone would take a rake bars partaking in the underbelly. There's a reason why I'm going somewhere with this. But we have twenty two minutes left in the VAT. But the casino was quote unquote casino at the time that would call and drop dime on these people and then the game would bust up, and then they were arrested this and that whatever what I'm wondering. Now, I want bad bad, LeRoy Brown. Now, this is this'll.

"So. It's been a while. It's been a while the young guns going at it. Or could it be the goats go pasture? Could we have one year after the first forty year old quarterback playing the SuperBowl? Not one but two forty versus Forty-one-year-old. Breeze versus Brady Sean Payton versus Bill Bella check, the ultimate Xs and os. Chess match up the one coach as Brian Billick loves to point out only coach in the history coaching who likes to take away the one thing you do in Bella check versus guy Sean Payton, who you just can never guess what's coming. Come on. We're we're we're great any which way I believe deep down CBS and president of CBS, Sean McManus, I think deep down they are hitting their knees at night praying to the football gods for Brady versus breeze. Why do you say that because it's two guys who have been at it for quite some time. It's two guys that everybody knows. It's too first ballot hall of famers. It's two guys that every because the Super Bowl is a game where the whole country is going to be interested in watching and who's the one that might actually get the most interested in watching the two most recognizable names and patriots are the patriots from the northeast New Orleans is every single time. There's a game involving two teams of a nature. That's not the saints. Nine times out of ten the largest out of market audiences New Orleans. They are just nuts about football. I think if I'm not mistaken the famed chiefs Rams game. These so-called defense is dead game. The week eleven Monday night football game. I do believe outside of Kansas City and loss Angeles, the largest viewing market was New Orleans. Me. It's the rich Eisen show. That's true. Yeah. It's everywhere that could be the most least self-aware statement. I've ever said me, it's the rich Eisen show. There are two is in rich and Isan. So prior to the season Labor Day, I hadn't piffling. 'cause I knew the next day. I had to be on the NFL network for the NFL game. They morning season.

"If John skipper was still the president. He had his issues with the league don't think they fit his sensibilities. I think you'd probably was sorta tired of the NFL pushing them around. And I think I think they would would've tried to stay in the business of the NFL. I think they just would've tried to maybe cut a highlight deal of as apoe which would have been, you know, multiple multiple millions of dollars. But maybe got got you know, maybe moved off the game broadcast. But you know, we'll never know that. But I am absolutely in agreement with you that I think they have a real shot of getting in the Super Bowl rotating. So that leads me, John, and you sort of hit on this a little bit. If they did get let me rephrase this do you think the NFL would be interested in a mega cast style. Super Bowl broadcast at least as a one off. So now only the game on. ABC not only the game simulcast on ESPN, but ESPN doing different kind of things like for instance, bringing in former NFL coaches to do a coach's film room having some kind of different camera angles to watch the game on their multiple streaming options doing like that fan broadcast that they've done where again, I'm just sort of you know, spitballing here, they they bring in the home announcers of each of these Super Bowl teams. And you're able to listen to that game though, you know, probably the home announcers the radio now do it on their own. But do you don't I'm saying like, do you think the NFL would be interested in that kind of college production or does the NFL not want to dilute the product so much, you know, they just wanted on ABC ESPN, and maybe simulcast on a couple of channels. Let's put it this way. I'm pretty certain that SPN when they come in for an offer that's going to be part of their author. And I think that it works for for the F P. The NFL really really likes having one gigantic number of people that are coming and watching it on on on one kennel ever. You take a look, and they're starting to stream it so that once again member is getting I mean, let's be on a streaming like not even a fingernail of that number. But it's it's, you know, I it's it's life inning off like, you know, a small sectors here and there, and we're being conditioned now to look at what NBC does with the Olympics. It's you know, one they don't give one rating anymore for for just the Olympics. It's you know, plus they add in all of the the streaming numbers. And and everything else. So everybody's now being conditioned have that one big number, and you don't necessarily have to have it against the against one channel. So I think that you know, it wouldn't surprise me to see the NFL say like, yeah. That makes sense to me. But, but I think that's that's all part of negotiation. That's going to have to happen. Yeah. Just did a quick check here. So last year's Super Bowl three point one million concurrent streams average minute audience of two million. So. You know, the numbers have certainly gone up over the last five years. But like you said, I mean, that's two million compared to one hundred six million across all platforms, streaming is still very very small when it comes to that game when you sort of weighed against the network number. But you know, if if the NFL is indeed in a better place with the SPN, I'm with you. I think I would put that over fifty percent in terms of them getting a Super Bowl, by the way. I don't think they're going to swipe the package from another network of. That's what they're interested in talk to Sean McManus. I was in New York last week CBS is going to defend he said, very very hard. Any kind of bid to try to get the AFC package. You know, obviously that may come from other places like dissolve on other these digital places that have money, but I do think that if the numbers, right? I think ESPN I think ESPN slash ABC. Can absolutely get a Super Bowl. One other thing John, and then we'll move onto some of the other. Let me just add to that. So CBS NBC and FOX are going to defend their packages as hard as they possibly can. And in fact, a I I.
