Michigan tries new approaches to coronavirus testing
"Michigan was one of the State's first at bat against a huge outbreak of corona virus. Michigan hit its peak in April reporting a high of more than eighteen hundred new cases on April. The third new cases remained above fifteen hundred for days that month Governor Gretchen whitmer declared a state of emergency by April first she closed all schools throughout the academic year hospitals were overrun even as workers faced layoffs and paycuts thousands. Of medical workers came down with the virus as they struggled to treat patients, and by the end of the month, the state ranked third for the highest number of coronavirus fatalities in the country Michigan struggled to bend the curve, but Michigan came through the curve bent. Now, the question is whether Michigan can stay out of the red zone and the state has seen a few smaller waves since the worst of it this spring, there was the outbreak last month that. Harper's bar the popular haunt for Michigan State University which reopened to an unexpectedly large crowd on June. The eighth local reporters found young patrons lining up less than six feet apart, and then packing the dance floor like they would on an ordinary non pandemic night. No masks to see in that picture state health officials later link that bar nearly two hundred new infections and today Michigan posted one of its higher totals of statewide new cases for the past couple of. Months and that's concerning especially because everywhere in the country right now, educators are trying to figure out how to get education going again it's basically every state and in some instances, every school district or even school for themselves at Michigan, State, in East Lansing, they're exploring a combination strategy that's going to be new to them, and that might be new for anyone else and it starts with a spit test developed at the university by neuroscience professor named Jack Lipton this man. The kit costs around three dollars a piece, and as you can see, it's pretty simple. You can do this in the privacy of your own apartment or dorm room you put your sample in the vial with the Little Barcode you seal it in the bag and Wallah your part is over the lab at Michigan State will take your sample and combine it with others in what is known as pool testing, which maybe you've heard about recently, the idea behind pulled testing is that it can help labs do more way more with weight less instead of having each person take their own. Separate test you pull the samples from a small number of people about a dozen and you run a single test on that pool of the pool turns up positive only then do you need each person in the pool to take a test but if the pool turns up negative, you're done the single test covered a dozen people in a place where you expect a lot of negatives. Pool testing is remarkably efficient at Michigan state. They're going to step further than that. Each volunteer who takes a spit test goes into separate pools of about ten or so people so think about it like. Two teams. You're Miami Dolphin and a Seattle Seahawk, or you're Houston rocket and in Minnesota Timber Wolves choose your metaphor. The point is if two pools come back with positive results, it can only mean one thing. The lab just finds the person who belongs to both pools using a handy grid like this one, and then recommends that that person get a follow up diagnostic test. It's like playing Bingo be six Bingo you might have corona virus. That's what Professor Lipton plans to do with samples from MSU volunteers testing two thousand of them every day and referring any apparent positives for an individual diagnostic test. Now, the third and most unusual part of this plan has to do with sewage scientists are discovering that they can spot a rising rotavirus cases early on by texting. Communities, Wastewater Michigan State, professor, Joan Rose and her team have been testing the campus wastewater. Since April she says, they noticed a peak in the virus that lined up with the news about an outbreak at a college hang out which demonstrated that there sewage diving expeditions worked I made that up I don't know if they're actually diving. For the testing this fall, the idea is to sample the wastewater from different places on campus so that they can get hyper local data if they can get good enough at sampling and turning around their result in a timely fashion, their work could act as an early alert system for Michigan State perhaps, even at the level of individual buildings. So you've got the pool testing with the affordable spit kits you've got expanded. Diagnostic testing. But literally just for those people who appear to be positive or just playing turn-up sick and then you've got the wastewater testing which increasingly looks like a functioning means of getting a warning in time to react if the plan works, it could help the university find and contain outbreaks. If it works the plan could help Michigan State and it's sixty seven thousand students stay on campus and have something like a semester. Joining us now is the aforementioned Dr Jack? Lipton. Of Translational Neuroscience at Michigan State University Dr Lipton. Thank you for being with us. We've heard about pool testing I want you to tell us a little more about it and why it it specifically helpful in this instance what what about Michigan State makes it a perfect candidate for the pooling of spit. What would you think about full testing end and Michigan state one of the things that you're that is really important to understand that the resources that we have is that university are fairly limited. Bright. But we're not a multinational corporation. So funds are limited resources are limited and pooling allows us to. have. More. More test being done with the same amount of resources or with less resources. So in this case, if we're dealing with supply chain issues with testing if we can test ten people with reagents that we would need to test one person, then we are were saving a lot in terms of of supplies, and if we don't have to run ten tests and we can run one test, we save a lot of time. So if you can save time and you can save supplies, you're going to Yeah. Ultimately conserve and that's really what our goal is and this. This works 'cause you're not expecting a large proportion of people to have this thing right. So generally speaking a bunch of these pools, we'll come out negative. Right. pools if you if you have about ten people in a pool in your expectation is maybe seeing two or three out of a hundred people. Show up positive than most of your pools are going to be negative. The more the prevalence increases the more the rates of infection increase. Then you're going to have more and more positive bulls. If one out of every ten people are positive than a pool of ten, most likely is going to have a positive individual in it. So you have to really balance pool size and prevalence together in order to come up with the right balance to save resources and save time. So the this actually could have broader implications There's a Wall Street Journal op-ed that you wrote about a previous test not this one that we're talking about, but it was a concept of pulling in you set across the United States tens of thousands of similar academic research labs have the expertise and equipment to help the country test for covid nineteen. If even one tenth of these labs joined the effort we could. Test an additional five, hundred thousand to one million samples a day. Your larger point here is that there are ways to get to more people and and then figure it out early rather than what we're in right now where there are some places where people are waiting in excess of seven days for typical test results in a in a concentrated environment like Michigan state you can. You can see things early and intervene. Absolutely and I think it's really important to note when you're talking about the pet that we put together. The vast amount of resources and know how that existed the academic laboratories universities across the country. Each one of the things that we've proposed was to develop biomedical National Guard and utilize all of these individual laboratories across the country and have them be organized through the federal government in order to be able to respond to pandemics or other natural disasters with biomedical know-how and that if we could get something like that done if the next administration is interested in doing something like that, we can be. Proactive instead of reactive in these kinds of situations. Wow. That's incredible because you just answer the question I was going to ask I was going to say, Hey, what can government do to take advantage of these kinds of resources and you just answer that I just want to say that again, a biomedical National Guard what a great simple idea resources all over the country run by different people but the the government of the United States providing the centralization for the data and the distribution. If you think about all of the laboratories and universities that were shut down as a result of the pandemic so many people were were sitting home like I sitting home on on zoom all day. If we have opportunity to come back into the laboratory and help. We can do so much in terms of trying to not only develop new new treatments and and working on new methods of detection, which is what our laboratory did during during April we can marshal all of these resources all. Know How that exists in order to to. Attack this problem in a concerted and coordinated way. Lifting. There's not a lot of great news about Krono virus, but I have to tell you after this conversation. I'm optimistic that there are people like you around this country who are actually in this moment while everything looks as grim as it is finding solutions that are going to help us see the other side of the coronavirus. Dr. Jack Lift Lipton is the chair and professor of translational neuro size. I don't even know what that is. We'll talk about that another time at Michigan State University. Thank you for all that you are doing and good luck to you at Michigan. State, we'll stay on top of this with you.

New York Jets trade Jamal Adams to Seattle Seahawks

I have a friend, a couple of columnist. National columnists who think that Seattle got the better of this deal. What are your thoughts? Well, I I think it's a rare situation where both teams Win the trade. I mean, almost everybody involved winds. Destrade. Because Jamal Adam's got what he wanted. The jet's got something back from a player who, very obviously no longer had any interest in being here and was going to do anything he could To make the Jets miserable if they kept him and Seahawks get an impact player of who could help them contend for school. Obviously, they think there they're close to contending and Jamal is a kind of a special player where He may be able to do more than other safety's do so. I think You could make an argument for anybody wanting this trade, but I think if you look at it from the jet standpoint For them to get this kind of compensation for guy who just wanted no part of being here. Get to first round picks. I don't think many people saw that happening. And from that standpoint, it's a win for the Jets.

How worried should we be about foreign takeovers?
"There's an opportunity for investments from China into Canada today. The innovation minister was forced to stand in this. House acknowledged that he misled when he said that the company. He's selling our retirement homes to was Canadian. Under Chinese ownership. You could be forgiven if you missed some of the stories that inspired today's episode. I mean look. It's my job to be tuned into all the big stories. And I know I miss them. The fact that moves like this one. Don't register on. Most of our radars might be a problem. Right now obviously Canadian businesses are suffer. Not all of them are going to make it through Colfax now. And that makes some of them. A tasty target for foreign buyers who are looking to acquire assets in a stable and relatively prosperous. And in some cases, those investments are badly needed in other cases, though especially when the purchasing company has direct ties to a foreign government. There are real security concerns. I mean. Why would a foreign government have interest in owning a failing Canadian business? So much interest that they are willing to pay more than anybody else. What kinds of risks do we take on when we allow Canadian companies to come under control of state owned businesses. How can candidate government balanced the need for foreign investment especially during an unprecedented economic crisis? With the red flags being waved by our security and intelligence agencies. And also just. Why, don't most of us know or care about this? What part of the big picture is missing here? Jordan Heathrow, and this is the Big Story Stephanie Carbon is an assistant professor of International Affairs at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University. She also has a book coming out this fall on you, T. press, which is called stand on guard, reassessing threats to Canada's national security. Hi Stephanie. I want you to start. If you can buy explaining a recent deal that kind of put this question in our minds in his why we reached out to you, can you just tell me a little bit about The Hope Bay Gold Mine Project, and what it kind of means for national security in general, so the Hope Bay Gold Mine is a mine eighty S. he was a Canadian control. It was it was kind of being run by. by US t, T MAK RESOURCES INC and it unfortunately unperforming, it's one of actually three mines that have been unperforming recently where there's been some kind of take over, but this kind of raised eyebrows because it's been a basically taken over by a company called Shandong Gold Mining Company, which I also goes by St. Gold and the concern is that this company is considered to be a state owned enterprise. The Chinese government has a forty seven percent. Share in this company, and often when you at the other owners, the you can dig down and find that there's actually probably more links to the state. Generally, so this seems to be an a case of a Chinese state owned enterprise, taking over a Canadian natural resources firm something that you know has raised concerns in the past say in the last ten years and seems to be happening even in this Cova era or perhaps because of it. Why does it raise concerns? I? Mean pretend I know nothing what's wrong with them? So. This is a really good question. Canada is is a small country, right? We're a country, thirty, seven, thirty eight million people, and that means we. Need for an investment in order to grow our economy. especially up north I mean it's very expensive to develop things up north, and we know that successive governments have wanted to encourage business up north to try and improve the lives and conditions of people who live there, but we get concerned when we see these government, company or state owned or even state champion enterprises coming into the market in order to provide that foreign investment, and sometimes they are the only companies that are interested in providing that financial assistance to get these companies going. So you know the first concern is for a long time. We saw the government trying to get of business. Right privatizing various companies, but we're seeing. Despite the Canadian government getting out of these businesses, we're seeing other governments. Take their place, and this is something that actually Stephen Harper warned about in two thousand and twelve thousand thirteen. Canada has spent a long time. Trying to privatize its into industry, but not in such a way that we want foreign governments coming in and taking over those. Businesses instead, so this is. This is something that we've worried about for some time and. Part of the reason that these state-owned enterprises are problematic is that we often don't understand what they are trying to do in. You've taken a normal company right? McDonald's any other company. You know that they're trying to make money, right? That's what they do, but with state owned enterprises. Is there some kind of geopolitical or Geo? Objective that they have in mind. Particularly in the natural resources sector that we have to maybe be concerned about you know, are they trying to strategically placed themselves in such a way that they have control over Canadian resource in a way that perhaps maybe Canadians or the Canadian government would be uncomfortable with. Do we have any examples of that happening that we can look at and say you have this was A. A mistake we shouldn't have gone down that path so a really good example of this would probably be nexen people would point to next is of course a oil company. It's out in Alberta and in two thousand twelve. It was kind of putting itself on the market, and it was taken over by Seahawk. which is a Chinese state owned enterprise, a petroleum company and there was some concern that you know. Do we actually get want. These kind of government owned enterprises owning these businesses, and it paid well over the market price in order to get access to accent. A Louis. Some national security concerns that were raised at the time. Eventually, the Harper government did let it go through, but you know a lot of the promises that were made as a part of the deal. Really haven't gone very well. the business hasn't been as profitable as as was hoped. There's been some safety issues. Accidents with regards to nexen owned critical infrastructure, and even recently we've seen a number of layoffs. I mean. There's so many layoffs in that industry anyways in my heart goes out to the the oil workers, but. It. Really just hasn't performed as well as hopes, and this is one of the concerns that I think has often been raised. Is that state owned? Enterprises can't fail they are. Backed by the state. They're not subject to the same pressures as a normal company like again. Going back to McDonald's. You

Instant analysis is bunk generally y. It's it's challenging too. Great a draft right after it's happened because you know Bobby Wagner. Nobody knew who he was. And Russell Wilson was considered a bad pick and so there there's example after example of guys that were not highly thought of who ended up being great and vice versa. Obviously the jamarcus Russell's of the world and plenty of others who were Curry and others here. Who we thought. We're going to be world leaders. Who who never materialized at all so when you judge draft it's challenging to just you know judge the names what you can judge. I believe is the strategy behind it Brooke and I will say overall. I'm disappointed by the strategy that the seahawks showed off over the weekend. I didn't think it was well thought out. I thought that that it got away from the and we always talk about the game speeding up on you. I wasn't in the draft. I don't know it was going through John Schneider Tad I don't. I don't know any of that personally but the sense I got watching it from the outside. Is that when they weren't able to trade back on day one that after that the draft just got away from them that that everything they wanted to do. They weren't fully able to accomplish that. It was all based on okay. We trade out of twenty-seven we pick up an extra pick in the third or fourth and that allows us to do ABCD and e through the rest of the drive and when that's ratted g was taken away from them by Green Bay deciding. They got a better deal elsewhere. It just saying this. Tom Jenkins Sixty the day. If you've ever done fantasy drafts and I don't do them anymore and played fantasy in a decade. But I remember doing especially in baseball fantasy drafts. And you go into the planet screws it up and I'm not good enough at it and I didn't pay enough attention next. Like gotTa hate by team. I didn't even mean to draft any of these guys. Like congratulations to me. I've got the best second I got chased in the mid. Two thousand right man. I missed that on every shortstop on every on every ace. How did I end up with this team? This was not the team. I know why because I didn't think someone was GonNa Take David Wright with the thirteenth pick and the next thing you know. That's what I was built that I don't know that that's what happened to the seahawks over the weekend but just watching them go linebacker. Who's who's a really seems to be a bit of a Ridge. Even by their own their own words a bit of h you know edge rusher who was not part of the top tier guard. Just kind of go through it. It doesn't it just didn't feel right. Well a couple of things I I use the word perplexing after the draft in in in in the heat but now kinda stick with that word that was an emotional reaction then and seventy two hours later digested. It is still a bit perplexing. I've done a fair amount of work to try to kind of dig into their philosophy on it and I think I've got a pretty strong opinion but you mentioned names Mike and I can't. I can't go any further here. I mean there was forty two years ago on this day. The Michael Patrick Saul came into the world. Jewish that name which is that name but okay. Thanks Patrick we'll go. That name was established on this day. Forty two years ago so happiest of happy forty. It's a great number. Angst is a numerology. Guys you are. This is Jackie Robinson's number. This is Leno hills number four to eight powerhouse powerhouse. Number you kind of coming into your own in many ways. Probably the halfway point of your journey you know usually eighty four. You know a pretty strong life. So congratulations happy. Happy Birthday Hewitt feels like just yesterday. I was miserable turning forty. And somehow I don't even remember turning forty one and here we are at forty two so things are getting away from you. Know Talk About Things. Get away from you. I can sympathize seahawks. "The Seahawks pick is in the Seahawks went defense they went linebacker maybe this will make for happy Jordan Brooks Texas tech is off to the Seattle Seahawks but when an organization right there because they make smart decisions I don't know what the hell the Packers are going to Mike Patton and everybody try to get my boys Super Bowl with Jordan Brooks is the is it is a unique player he's a twitchy guy he was one of my favorite guys you know when I was breaking down the line back resisted he's down he'll he's X. instance thank the anybody gets there he hasn't added to you know to Bobby Wagner is get a little older you don't expect them to play solo but now he gets to play behind him and now he gets to learn and be able to step into the role three years from now with Bobby Wagner decides to go you'll hang out on a beach somewhere yeah I I agree with part this guy plays like a sea hawk he has a high motor guy I have some questions about his ability in coverage but he he was a guy that pressure the quarterback a lot he had five sacks he's a little bit undersized only six feet tall which is not ideal play linebacker but in terms of the traits in the way they play defense this is a good fit especially at this part of the first round so to get your reports of twenty seven you're just a Bobby Wagner insurance I think the way they play they could have a both on the field is again I see books a little bit more of a downhill player where well here's a little bit more of a sideline to sideline but this guy was really productive have a tele tackles and a really good pick for that but this part of the draft because I feel like we've kind of dug in deep on a lot of these page there was one that we kind of brushed over that I do want to go back to for just a moment nobody ever talks about the center position but the saints well you know it was right after the patriots traded out we have spent a lot of time on the Cesar Ruiz center at a Michigan to the saints Mike would you think of their decision to go that direction yeah I I like to watch your we've talked a lot about today about the jets we talked about the Browns and the dolphins with these quarterbacks that need firm office alliance and one of the things that Mel Kiper said which I completely agree with was Ruiz has a good anchor so you take a quite who you drafted last year I juries Pete that gives drew Brees all Walford pocket the step up into the pocket to get the ball down the field that's really necessary to put drew Brees in the best position to be successful so unlike what happened in Green Bay which not helping out Aaron Rodgers I love the respect and it just gives them a ton of flexibility and gives pres the best chance to be successful and he can play guard a you know I. I was fortunate enough to watch I believe one of the best modern day centres in a game and Nick Mangold when I see we I see similarities that guy that can anchor but also athletic to do a combination box help help help help a fellow gar with the combination black may get up to the second level create these avenues for runner like album good marvels a slasher guide I can get an adult that has the patience to the hole in their celebration through the hole I think they did a great job of making themselves themselves out on the outside we know to ramp check is there and they have your P. mehr tackles now you're going to make sure that your solid up the middle and and the irony there by the way one the Buckeye ones Wolverine all this comes right back together all over again it all comes back to kind and by the way you look at the at that this this election by.

"Seahawks what is a really interesting case study because that's Superbowl man that really was like oh my god no how is it paid me any can't score what was going to score gets why wasn't the first play the game of the second plate again I think was the first one the first snap right now with your wrists head but no man it's it's we're trying to do like a the judge and I was happy but still it's gonna come setting Braga players were saying that they all season long they never faced a defense that hit them immediately after he caught the ball like in their point some good defenses but none of them so everyone said we always got a little space catch the ball could pick up a yard or two this was the first time we played all we were being driven into the ground with regards to the Seahawks to they it was almost patriot ask the division that they were in at the time too because they were in a division where the other three teams were horrible right so the Niners are really starting to pick up but not quite there yet so for them like at the beginning the season they can look at the schedule go out K. we've got six wins here right then and we just got to figure out what another five just to make sure were we get into the playoffs comfortably it just cruise and I mean that was and that was the the Seahawks I mean they were the probably the most dominant team in the NFC during that stretch and yeah nothing I did I talked about the fourty those are pretty good that year they played with the forty Niners they went to the Superbowl and then the then with a good the next year when Seattle one to their first several no because the room how to look up the record but yeah I don't know I mean they might have to backtrack back to back I thought the line back a bit I thought the Niners were good that cap for next first first run and then it right figured Capranica out right and then they went to the NFC title game against liners that the year they want to play the patriots so but that was yeah but the rams at the time were very good in the Carol Anne Arizona was very good yes ma'am good for so but the god it was it was really I mean the kind of content of covered the mines all right again at twenty the radio at Ron Culver that's run would to educated us up on Twitter if you wanna get your thoughts on that as we continue to look at more on the NFL my god it's getting closer SBNation AM made.

"And I understand your point. The point is is that you know, that they're going to try to run the football. When you look the stats and to me, that's probably sounds a little easier. But the problem is is that when you look at the Seahawks is that as we mentioned Russell Wilson is such a viable runner. But. The saints are more explosive. You know, that's the thing about the Seahawks. They just gonna keep chip on chip and chip and they're not attainment scores Tana points. But there attain the likes the possession and possessions touchdowns with possession is a key. I mean, we can look at Dallas their biggest probably issue. This year's been. Yeah. They may have the possession. But are they actually taken full advantage of what they don't drive say getting the red zone and not scorn now this month right here on the other hand are able to execute. And and yeah, I I'll buy that by that you have to respect Russell Wilson more than you. Do drew Brees because these adult threat. Yeah. You never can get comfortable because he's always going to take off. And he's always going to do something that you're not prepared for or the match doesn't warrant an opportunity to make a play in not that this is easy, but you can to a degree crash the pocket and just reek havoc. And you know that stifles drew Brees we saw that team played. And so do that to Russell Wilson. And he's he will kill you. I mean, he's I've never done this. I don't know if you have he's trying to wrestle alligators. Have you ever done that before? No, no. I haven't even thought about that. I've heard about those people. But I think a couple of them are no longer with us. That's true. It looks it looks difficult. But so okay. So we we acknowledged, you know, this difficult hilas task. You know, what the Seahawks colors kinda look like alligator skin? You know, like just that sort of Topi greenish. You know what I mean? Obviously, the librarian the one that reminded me of that piece soup. Oh my gosh. Look worse than the Oregon ducks uniform kinda similar how do you do? You miss the old Seahawks uniform because I do the old kind of kind of close to the Cowboys ones time with the silver and the blue with the splash green. I. Those I like those, but I'm kind of an old guy wanting to stay young. So was it. Oh guy. Do he likes to likes trendy things? I I like a combination. I like the new stuff that's kind of not your forte. Is you know, I love the Detroit Lions uniforms came here and just a horrible with the live green. It's kinda hard to look at. That's that's very it's not good for TV. What's your favorite uniform that you haven't put on of all the ones you did? And I'm talking to your favorite your favorite color. Whether it was the wider, the navy, and whatever it was. I'm going to say the. When I was certainly with the Dallas Cowboys. I I like the blue away jersey sokaia, I never got the really the throwback the white. You know, how they do it? Now why excuse me dark bottoms and why I think white white jerseys. I think. But I I would say I really I was more. I was more biased. I I like the darker color because. It may be it made me look more chiseled grad. I can't even pronounce chisel swell. That's even possible for me. Because I I was a guy that really did have much definition when it come to the camp to the contour my body. But yeah, just like black and makes you mix you look Lehner and Maynard pay. Whatever that maybe this will amaze me, though, Tony is you're saying your favorite jersey ever. Put on was the Cowboys road blues whatever to crimson. When I was when I was in college there's something about putting that crimson on..

"Back on. Really play. So both of these even though the the Packers are kind of. Whoa. Is me right now. I as both teams are playing a lot better football. Both teams got off to really bad starts this year. We all remember with the Packers. They had that that close game. Which Aaron Rodgers got hurt and beat the bears early on turned out to be that. That's a real quality win bears are better than expected, then they tied Minnesota, then they lose to Washington they'd be buffalo. But almost everybody beats buffalo. They lose to Detroit where Crosby couldn't kick the side of a barn. Missed all those fields so sensitive been playing well and putting up a lot of points pensively, but they have to put up a lot of points given up a lot. But but anyway, the offense the last five games put up twenty four thirty one the seventeen twenty seven to thirty three point. I'm going to put points on the board. And then on the other side, you got Seattle which started on at the dreaded into with Denver and Chicago, then they went to the next three. Three. And then some wins against Oakland in Detroit. Now, they're even back up at five and five but early in the season. Russell Wilson was scrambling getting killed back there. They'll live was terrible. But they look a lot better right now. This is very interesting turnaround for the Seattle Seahawks afterward Carol their head coach said, hey, Thursday night was kind of a wild ride. Well, it's kind of loud Thursday night. Really really happy about this win for guys for all of us twelve that we're waiting for us. And we took us a long time to get going the first half just didn't play well at all. But it does show you that that you know, that doesn't decide the game guys went into halftime adjustments that he put some stuff together to turn the game around really stops Kip getting and just played it entirely different football force. And it was just a great turnaround. Russell Wilson was key place. Twenty one thirty one hundred twenty two touchdowns. No pixie was sacked three times in the game. Couple of passes sailed on early on and carols trying to coach them up a little bit. Here was his reaction. Russell just kinda just need to find his rhythm a little bit. I think he's fired up. You know, I think he was pumped up. You throw a couple balls over the top guys that generally it's and it came back and found did a great job. I said some Tony says I'm gonna be all right? I'm going to be all right, which he was exactly right to shut up coach really what he said. But he didn't P Carrollton it players coach Aaron Rodgers for his work on that. I twenty one of thirty three hundred thirty two yards two touchdown sex five times moving around there and being chased throughout the night. Now, they said early on they sit there at four five and one digging themselves in a hole and he was asked by reporter yesterday after the game. If there's any hope left. Hope left for the season. We're kind of questions. Can't win on the road. What what are you going to be able to do? I don't even know how to incident supposed to say..

"And I think that it really good job at doing that again outside of the first drive Seahawks were for fifteen on third downs. Turns got a lot of penetration. They had seven and a half tackles for loss. They got. They sacked Russell's and four times, and they just wanted to line of scrimmage, and it set up a lot of third and longs for Seattle. And you saw during that game twice the Seahawks shoulder frustration by trying to get some late hits in DJ. Fluker. Justin. Brit. Both got personal foul penalties. Trying to push the pile lane. The hawks really tried to get into charter tender in this game too. You saw. After every incompletion every hit every dropped ball. There was a Seahawks player clapping and in the chargers. Talking trash every single time and the charters never backed down. And I know that's kind of cliche maybe a little bit corny. But these hawks tried to bait the chargers. I mean, that's that's their game. They tried to get in their head. And they went toe to toe with them and on offense the Seahawks. They wanna pound the rock. They want to keep the ball on long drawn out possessions. Keep Abbad rivers hands and keep the crowd in it. And the chargers took it to them. They beat them on the ground mongering at one hundred thirteen rushing yards. You talked about both Gordon actor average over seventy dollars per carry. And they just ran it down hawks throat and even with the stall drives you talked about some of the splash plays at ten plus yards. But just seems like they look like they could move the ball at will. And you know after this win. There was a lot of talk about how you know. The chargers have to dominate games like this and better teams will beat them. If they play the way they did against. Hawks. But that game wasn't as close as the score indicated. I mean, again, the first drive was a letdown for the Seahawks, but they basically score when the charges were trying to relent yards for time. You know, the dry before half Gus win in that soft zone. They just wanted to eat up clock. And essentially did the same to the second last drive by the Seahawks and the chargers, obviously should've had thirty points with miss kicks, but one because if they don't miss the first kick, they're not going for two on the second. Touchdown thirty one thirty one ten. Yeah. So thirty plus thirty thirty one at least thirty plus points. You know, they can't dominate every single game. But you saw you know, Seahawks titans are average maybe above average teams in the NFL. But even those both those games came down to the wire the chargers, absolutely dominated both those games. Yeah. I think they dominated Seattle more. So than they dominated the Tennessee game. Just because of the. Way Tennessee controlled the clock and was able to March up and down the field. They got stops when they needed them. But I wouldn't say the chargers necessarily dominated the titans game the way they did the Seahawks game. You know, they give up the first drive and then after that as the Seahawks couldn't do anything. I mean from you know, the eight minute Mark the six minute Mark of the first quarter until about the six minute. Mark of the fourth quarter, the Seahawks really didn't move the ball unless the chargers. Let them move the ball. There was no four progress for that Seahawks team. They couldn't run the ball. The chargers pass. Rush was extremely disciplined and they pen Russell Wilson in the pocket. Even when he wanted to run he couldn't find a running lane. There were plays with aero just driving DJ fluker. And some of the other interior linemen back into his lap and freezing them in the pocket. And he just didn't know what to do with the ball. I mean, they they completely dominated the line of scrimmage. They and like I said earlier they bullied the bully. I mean, Seattle wins at home in particular through intimidation..

"The Seahawks improving to one end soon. What's ahead for the Cowboys? They've got a game against the lions next week at AT and T stadium. And while you can never ever ever ever say that a week four game is a must win game. While I think in this case, you could say it's pretty darn close because beyond that are games in Houston against Jacksonville before you get a division game with Washington play at Tennessee team that owns sudden doesn't look so bad. They would they played tough defensively, and they're going to be a tough out. And then, you know, you get Philadelphian Atlanta, the point is you gotta go get these games when they're there for the taking the fleet to road games in Carolina now in Seattle both games offensively putrid played well against the giants for sure got that one. But there's no doubt the Cowboys got to figure this out before they take on the lines. They speak fees. That's a game that they really have to go out and get at home early game. They get many of those early games will they get one next week. "You would think that was an evenly matched game. And it wasn't Chicago's defensive line mauled the Seahawks offense line for three and a half hours. The bears were at home. They had a ten minute edge time of possession. They had six sacks and basically a pick six decided it twenty four seventeen. What do you think the Rams would have done with that Seahawk team last night that game wasn't even competitive, but Russell Wilson kept his team alive and Mitch Trubisky kept his team in training wheels. I mean, thinking about this, the first round quarterbacks picked in two thousand seventeen. We're Trubisky ball homes and to shown Watson trubisky's. Got twelve. Touchdowns in fourteen starts Watson's got twenty four and eight Mahomes has ten in three stars. Now, here's the good news for the Chicago Bears is in the NFL. Here's the thing. You can't be quarterback. You can't be chaotic. You can't be buffalo. That's what you can't be. And the bears in the last thirty years have been chaotic a lot. So the good news for the Chicago Bears beyond the great special teams, the great defense and that tremendously clever head coach. They are not chaotic at quarterback, and that's the thing, but the ceiling on that offense. If you put anybody, Matt, Ryan, Kirk cousins. I mean, you could put be guys in this league on that. Offense can give Cam Newton, those weapons that clever offensive coordinator, that defense, those special teams. Wow, you can't win in January and February with that. But the way. You can win a lot of games with a low ceiling quarterback when tannehill win seventy year Andy, Dalton wins in his career eighty year. But you're looking at the LA Rams with no offense. That's what they are. I'm watching the bears last night that offensive coach, Matt Nagy is so clever. Those special teams are so above average and that defense has playmakers everywhere. The difference. I don't wanna hear anybody out there. Bang on the Rams and support the bears because that's the Rams, but the Rams have a quarterback who also went number one who has a much higher ceiling who has a much higher ceiling. So let me talk about the other team last night. Monday night football. The Seahawks once again. Russell Wilson's running for his life. Once again, there's no running game. Once again, the offense of lines of mass once again, below average at wide receiver and tight end. Yeah. Yep. Pete Carroll USC New England and the Seahawks start hot. Everybody's talking about him, crazies fun, crazy, wild. And then with USC and the Seahawks by year nine. The slogans don't work. There are four teams, five teams in the NFL Owen to the coaches are guys like Steve Wilks, Matt, Patricia, Pat Shurmur. In the NFC. The fourth coach own to record is Pete Carroll, and he's the only one with a great quarterback. Pete Carroll has tell the truth Monday. That's what he calls Seahawk practices. Tell the truth Monday, be honest with yourself. Look at film, there's competition Wednesday, there's turnover Thursday. When we talk about the importance of ball security, there's no repeat Friday slogans. Last night was a mediocre Monday. That Pete Carroll Bill Bella check. The reason this dynasty lasts for eighteen years. It's built on academics and those last and the reason Nick Sabin has a decade-long dynasty that appears to be stronger than ever because it's built on details. And those last in Pete Carroll a lot of it's built on slogans and emotion bra. Those don't last slogans. You know, you've all gone seen the hallmark card. It's not the destination. It's the Cherney. You see that card that poster, you put it in a wall. It doesn't mean anything. Maybe in the moment hallmark opened the car, it kind of feels special. Being Tony Robbins is great, and Pete Carroll's a very good coach. I'm not saying either one of them's a scam. I'm not once you're in the room and row, Ron? Yeah, change your life. Go to the moon. This is amazing. We're gonna. Yeah, sweat slogans..

"Of the evening and then he started and turn around and that really doesn't happen that often the nfl i think who quarterbacks i think that's why we little bit confused that my wake up moment i guess bordeaux's and i think it was actually a little bit late boys the seahawks game but if he was very good he went through his readings he may great passes great deep passes and i was a super impressed by the skills he shows um i have to say sorry he's not a liability for that team anymore he's not he's the only nonus stars be playing at such a high level they really doesn't make you think that they can go these class yeah and i guess the question will just be to see how dp can take the success right because at this point your certainly thinking to yourself you can see him having a future with the jags and even that some other teams might be willing to look into him now that they've seen some potential but how big of a ceiling is there really on oils and how quick might it be for him to retreat back into his old ways i think that would worry anybody yeah and that's the question that jacksonville half the figure out and quickly right because they're the ones who are you know they have some leverage over hand because they can exercise their option and then they can franchise mcgann but you know he blake might not want to do a longterm deal he my wants to be like her cousin if he's confident in his he also by the way has just makes citizens he'd be confidence in his own improvement in transformation you might poker causing to say hey let me put me on the contrary leyla or but you figure out so let's go because i'm good i'll make 23 million dollars and then i'm gonna get my big contract so there's a lot of parties now who have a very limited campbell size to work with to make decisions about great bertel future i will say this if he goes into the play out there already going playoffs and you advances to say that he's he came it shift i cannot see them letting him go god i love the idea of just a swag you blake borderless leverage such.

"Uh you know the the sort of cautionary tale there about the seahawks trying to bring it outside quarterbacks so they were just incredibly fortunate environ byron maxwell was we'll still available now question was whether or not he was people you know whether or not still had and whether or not he was still the same player uh that he was over his for sport season with the seahawks and he's fit right back in um and you know they they every time they mentioned that they just uh mentioned how fortunate they were that he was available on that they end that they were able to pick him back up or you know just the dolphins so there is so deep at cornerback that you figure there's just not on the roster for barron maxwell and he had the weeks ancestors the case in miami that was a curious one 'cause i don't think they see any money by releasing it was it was purely just a a roster move so it's uh yeah there was but you know as i mentioned that they're that decision ended up a worked out pretty well for the seahawks certainly seems that way and now uh of course he figure with the injuries some secondary even though maxwell is played better than anyone could have imagined you'd figure it was to take some pretty solid efforts from the front seven in particular the front four in terms of their ability to capture the quarterback at an and make plays apple and skirmishes running who impressed you now particularly during the win over the eagles in terms of what they did apple anna scrimmage yeah frank clark why would be that guy duck lightly geared kusak uh yet another will well had to get a penalty where he was off by by um you know a step that would have been a third sacked but um yeah frank clark had one of the best games i think i've ever seen him play there was a you know i think his first sacchi just made this incredibly violent inside moved uh to get free for his sacking yet he he's um really all of those guys though um you know they were actually kinda spin on their.

"Also sunday night up against the eagles obviously it had been a really rough fourgame stretch after that dramatic victory over the texans losing at home to washington the arizona game that was a victory but of course ends with so many injuries including richard sherman as seizing any injury the loss at home to the falcons and then a uh a win win against the four designers that wasn't exactly inspiring the seahawks were six point underdogs at home against the law of the biggest uh the biggest spread against them at home since i believe the traverse jackson era in seattle and then of course really in impressive 24 ten victory one of the more exciting fund games of the year so just to start with this i mean do you think the mood is changing now about this team after this victory yeah yeah i i definitely think so and i i i don't even know actually if if the mood was you know i don't know if if they if it would be fair to say that they've got some you know a great deal of competence back from this game to think that that a lot of the players especially on that defense already had that confidence in you know we we were in a media scrum last week with k j right uh pro bowl linebacker and you know he was informed of your the the fact that as you mentioned they were six point underdogs at home which was most they'd been underdogs home by since two thousand eleven and he would like look you know don't sleep on us and talked about how they still have a lot of talent on that defense and um you know it it is obviously they're not going to be as good without camp chance or richard sherman but you know they still do have five players admit a pro bowl on that side of the ball so i think the point was you know w we still got a lot of talent on that side of the ball and and don't count us out and um i think you saw that sunday night that was you know their most complete defensive performance of the season uh holding the nfl's highest scoring offense to ten points.

"You just can't play you guys like that in a for you can't win that way and all burns offense was so simple i remember thinking i don't know about that i mean the athletics upside is way way high but i was nervous about how and he's out of you ever talked to him nicest kid in the world they said like in the rams facility in st louis the ceiling was like i don't know how i was he could flatfooted jump up at but both the twelve foot ceiling he job unjust but both his hands up like he's as athletically gift is any lime minutes come out and twenty years probably but it's about so much more than i mean it was primarily athletic gifts i wouldn't have played it all a lot of it is just knowing the right way to block a guy knowing where your help is and i just think it gets pretty complicated in some guys struggle in that area and i think he's one of those guys then there's other guys like luke joko it eight million dollars for a year from the seahawks at coming off playing four games torn aco when he wasn't good jacksonville i i don't know why he's getting what's at arrogance on tom cable in the seahawks out we can make we have we've we've made it work with less talentad as tom cable refuses to just let a guy play a position that he played college and and have a off of line like they drought this kid out at the center out of lsu in the second round ethan poacher maybe third round they can implement right tackle like i think cable thinks he gets extra credit if he takes the guy from defense or guy the play basketball or a guy that was a boston jacksonville or a guy that played a center at ellis jew and make some like i think he thinks he gets extra credit if you like.
