A highlight from 41: 2023 Predictions!

"Welcome to the Ultra Flex Football Podcast where we have fun with our friends while we talk about football and any anything else we wanna talk about. We're here for season two. I don't know if we're officially calling it season two but this is our second season of talking about NFL football. So, we're back. With me as always is Rob Green. What's up? And Ryan Wheeler. Howdy, howdy. Season two episode one is what it's officially gonna be titled and Tony, I told you not to talk so close to the mic, man. You like, blew out my eardrums there at the beginning but I just get excited. I know. You're so excited. You get excited so easily. We were talking about that before we like, actually started recording but anywho, uh so, we do that thing where we have an album and we split up the songs in the album and we try to get the song titles into the show as discreetly as possible. Sometimes not as discreet as we'd like to think we are but we're gonna give you our titles that way you know what to listen for. See how many you can catch. Just a little game within our show. My song titles, the album first of all is called Down to Earth by Jimmy Buffet. Rest in peace, Jimmy Buffet. It's his first album. Down to Earth. The songs that I have to get in are The Christian, LSD, The Missionary, and A Mile High in Denver. Rob, what do you got? Alright, I have the captain and the kid, Captain America, Ain't He a Genius, and Turnabout. Alright, and Sir Anthony. I've got There's Nothing Soft about Hard Times, I Can't Be Your Hero Today, and Truck Stop Salvation. So, we'll see if we can get all of those in. Uh most of the episode today is gonna be football. It's uh we we were doing some things during the off season to help pass time. Uh you know, Ultra Flex After Dark and having some fun with games and things like that but football season is here. Uh we're gonna be doing football talk here in a second where we're gonna pick our division of winners. We're gonna pick our Super Bowl, MVP, and then we're gonna pick week one games and then we'll have one game at the end. So, uh football, football, football. So, let's get it started with football talk. Just that really amps you up, doesn't it? Golly, that was good. It puts me in the football mood. It just, it feels like we're kind of, you know, whimsical, a little bit of uh goofy when we talk. So, I thought that was a good one for football, our football talk. Let's, let's start with, in my opinion, the less competitive conference which would be the NFC. Uh maybe you guys think differently. Um but let's go with NFC West. We'll skim over this if we all agree pretty quickly. Uh I'll go first. This one and then we'll just kinda alternate uh as we jump divisions but uh for me, the NFC West is the 49ers winning this division. Um I think they're the best team in the NFC. Any chance we can like we go NFC West that includes the that way for people that don't necessarily have the NFC West on the top of their head you're just gonna see that includes like the 49ers, Seahawks, Cardinals, uh Rams. Yeah, you just you just did it. Yeah, we can do it. Okay. Nailed it. Yeah. So, 49ers, Seahawks, uh Cardinals, Rams. For me, Cardinals, Rams are both gonna be pretty not so great. Comes out of the Seahawks and 49ers and I just think the 49ers are a better roster. Brian? Oh, it's next. Um I'm gonna go with the 49ers. I just think top to bottom, the roster is the best. Rob? Yeah, I agree but I wanna be different. So, give me the Seahawks. We hated on him last year. We picked him to be like what? One and sixteen I think cuz we thought they were terrible. Gino Smith's gonna continue his uh career turnaround, turn about. I don't know if I can use that here. And uh. And he's gonna lead them to a division title. Alright. They have the offensive weapons to do it though. They definitely have the offensive weapons. Maybe Brock Purdy isn't as good as he looked at the end of last year. We'll see. He doesn't have to be. They have Sam Darnold as the backup. I don't think that's why he doesn't have to be good but anyway. Yeah. I think he has enough weapons and Kyle Shanahan around him that will make him. Exactly it. Make him look good. Uh Ryan, I'll let you go first this time. We're talking about the NFC North. So, we got the Lions, the Packers, the Bears, and the Vikings. Who do you have winning that? The NFC North, I have the Packers taking that division. It kinda just feels like a crapshoot division honestly. I mean, I don't really feel good about my pick. I don't feel about picking any, good about picking any of those teams. So, I just want Jordan Love to be good because he's got an awesome name and quite honestly, that's that's how I came up with my answer. So, I was like, got the guy that has love in his name. I'm pretty sure from looking at this division, the odds are the closest bunch of four out of all the the division. Makes sense. So, it kind of is the most wide open division, I think. Who do you have? Yeah, who do you have picking, Rob? You know, our team last year was the Lions. So, I'm gonna I'm gonna bring that over to this year. Let's go with the Lions too. I don't even know the last time they won the division. Nineties probably. Early 90s, mid 90s. If they did then. I just don't know either. I think we'll find out pretty early AKA we're filming this on a Monday before the season starts. So, we'll find out in 3 days whether or not they'll be a pretty good team again which they have enough talent on the offense to put up points. It'll just. Yeah, what are we thinking like 60 points in that first game here with the Lions and Chiefs? It's gonna be a high score game. Probably, yeah. Yeah, no Chris Jones for the Chiefs and then the Lions don't really have much of anybody on defense. Um that means that yeah, they did what they took that linebacker. I can't think of his name right now. Um. The guy that everybody won the bills. Jack Campbell. Jack Campbell. Yeah. Yeah. Um but I agree. I have power on offense to be the best team in that division but I wouldn't would I be shocked if the Vikings or the Packers or even the Bears for that matter were to win it. Probably not. So, I'll go with the Lions. Uh the NFC East another compelling division. Got three and a half maybe. I don't know about Washington. Good teams. Um which the Cowboys, the Eagles, uh the commanders, and the Giants. Rob, who do you have winning the NFC East? Yeah, I like the Eagles. I think they're the best team in the NFC and I think they showed that last year. I think they'll do that again this year. Jalen Hurts continues his uh breakout. I won't say an MVP season but he could have another MVP caliber season like he did last year. Yeah, mine's gonna be the Eagles as well. I think their roster. While the Cowboys and Giants are gonna probably both win nine, ten games. I think the Eagles are just good enough to win eleven or twelve games and and win that division. So, Ryan, what about you? Yeah, I'm gonna be different and go uh Cowboys um not because I wanna be different but because I actually think the Cowboys are I think they have a better defense and I think their offense maybe not as good but I think they have a good offense and uh quite honestly, both these teams have pretty cake schedules. Um the Rob and I were talking about it earlier. Um sorry, we left you out of this conversation, Tony but the uh the Cowboys or I'm sorry, the the Eagles first was like seven games are the Patriots, Vikings, Buccaneers, Commanders, Rams, Jets, Dolphins, and then commanders again. It's like it's not that difficult. It could be six and one, seven and all. Yeah. And then the Cowboys was very similar. Like last year. So, it kinda feels like whoever wins this division is probably gonna win it with twelve. Twelve wins. Somewhere around there. Eleven, twelve. So, I just, I'm just gonna go Cowboys on that. That's gonna be a lot of my points in the AFC uh which we'll talk about in a second uh which is how hard all of their schedules are but uh last division um the NFC side is the NFC South. Could be the worst division in football. Uh we got the Saints, the Bucks, the Falcons, and the Panthers.

Ryan Wheeler Rob Green Sam Darnold Kyle Shanahan Jack Campbell Chris Jones Brian Jalen Hurts Ryan Jordan Love Down To Earth Jimmy Buffet 60 Points Brock Purdy Twelve Last Year Eleven Nine Panthers Rams

"The Jets should trade, I mean, they're signing Trevor Simeon or whatever, but they should be trading for Minshew if they could, I'd be giving up a third round for Minshew with that roster. You're just wasting the year with a really good roster, but anyway. I still can't believe they haven't signed somebody better. Or Simeon. Trash. All right, let's pick some games, and then we'll do the Rob, so pick games for week four. Forgot about the music there. Week three recap. I led the way this week with 12 correct. Anthony had 11, Ryan had nine. Oof. Nine's still actually not too bad, we had a pretty good week. Ryan, you going first, or last? I want to go last, I want Rob to go first. You want me to go first. Lions. Okay. Lions at Packers. Lions. Lions. Packers. Ryan can't not pick the Packers. Falcons at Jaguars. Give me the Jags to bounce back. Jags. This has to be their bounce back games, Jags, all the way. The toilet bowl. The gross game of the week, Broncos at Bears, I got to imagine that Sean Payton's going to find a way to get his team to bounce back after that disaster last, give me the Broncos. Yeah, they both stink, but I think the Bears stink a little bit more, so I will also go Broncos. Isn't there two toilet bowl games this week, two O and two teams play each other? Or four O and two teams play each other, isn't that right? I mean, I'll go Broncos on this one, but maybe O and three. There is one later on. Or O and three, I'm sorry. Next up, Ravens at Browns, I'll take the home team, give me the Browns. I think Lamar gets it done, so Ravens. Guys, there's only been one team that's played a snap inside the Browns red zone. That was the Titans, and it was because of a turnover, and they were taken right out of the red zone like right after that, so I'm going to go Browns. That defense is unbelievable. Bengals at Titans, Burrow got through healthy, so I'll go Bengals. Yeah, I think eventually the Bengals offense clicks. I don't know if it's this week, but I think eventually, so I'm going Bengals. Oh my gosh, if I pick the Titans every week like I plan on doing, I'm just going to keep hurting myself, so give me the Titans. All right, game of the week, Dolphins at Bills. I'm going to pick the Bills every week. I don't think I've done this yet in the season in three weeks, but I'm not picking the Bills. I think until they can show me that they'll slow down the receivers or Allen just has an insane game, I think the Dolphins right now are the better team. The better team doesn't always win, and the Bills will always be my baby, so we're going Bills. I'm going to go with the Dolphins also. I thought I was going to be the only one here, but I just don't know how you stop that offense, and until someone figures it out, it might be the Bills, but until someone figures it out. What are the Patriots holding to? 27. Yeah, it's his mid to high 20s. So, the Bills just got to get to 30, and I think they can hold them to that. Bills have a better defense. Commanders at Eagles, I will stick with the Eagles. Yeah, Eagles. Eagles. Bucks at Saints, give me Jamis Winston and the Saints in the revenge game there for him. Baker's been playing, I mean, they lost to the Eagles, but most teams are going to lose to the Eagles. So, I think Baker's been playing pretty well. I'll take the Bucks. Yeah, give me the Eagles. You're messing with me, man. You can't have the Eagles twice. I can't take the Eagles twice. Bengals as well. Yeah, I'll go Saints. So, I believe this must be the second winless game you had here. Vikings at Panthers, right? I believe they're both 0-3. Sounds like Young's coming back, so give me the Vikings. Ooh. I might have won Panthers if Dalton was playing. He played good last week. Yeah, I'll also go with the Vikings. I think 3rd's going to be able to score enough points. Yeah, me too. Bears have to be happy with that, right? They had the Panthers first pick, so they hope they keep losing. Rams at Colts. I don't really know, I don't have a good read on this game. I think the Rams kind of overachieved a little bit with the way they were playing the first few weeks, but I also don't think the Colts are a 3-1 worthy team, so give me the Rams. This should be a fun one to pick with the spread. I don't really know. You know, I almost made this one of my spread picks, but then I didn't. I should have. I don't know either. I'm just going with the home team. I'll go with Colts, I guess. Yeah, give me the Rams. Just a quick check on the spread. We got Colts plus 1-1.5. But they are minus 1-1.5 in another book, so pretty much a pick them. Okay, that's tough. Steelers at Texans. CJ Stroud is starting to play better, but TJ Watt's on fire, so he's going to wreck the game. Give me the Steelers. Yeah, I think. Anytime a rookie plays like Belichick or Tomlin or any of those defenses, it's a whole different ball game, so I'm going to go Steelers. I'm with you. Stroud has been playing well. He has, and that's minus I think four offensive linemen they've been missing, so he could be something pretty decent. I know we were all down on him this year, so we could be wrong there. Raiders at Chargers. I'll go Chargers. They're finally finding their groove. Losing Mike Williams is definitely a significant loss, but I feel like they just got used to not playing with him. That's true. Over the past few years, I'm going Raiders. I still think that you can run on that defense, and Jacobs hasn't had a game yet, so this is going to be it. Next up, we've got Cardinals at 49ers. Last week when I saw you say Cardinals minus 11, I thought you were crazy, but you might have been on to something. I knew it before. Is this the week that you go Cardinals for real? I don't know. I'll take the 49ers. 49ers. 49ers. Not going to do it. Nope. Disappointed. Patriots at Cowboys. Cowboys got a bounce back, right? Even the Cowboys. Yeah, I think they went at home. Yeah, I agree. That was tough, man. I did. They really did. I know. Chiefs at Jets. I'll just keep it simple and just go with the Chiefs. Chiefs. Chiefs. Monday Night Football was actually a pretty good one. A tough one here. Seahawks at Giants. Another one I don't have a good read on. I like Dabol as a coach, but I think the Seahawks are the better team. So I'll take the better team here. Seahawks. I think Dabol and the Giants figure it out at home. If it was vice versa, I'd pick the Seahawks at home, but I'll go with the Giants. They could do a week one. Are we forgetting that Pete Carroll is the head coach for the Seahawks? I think they have the head coach advantage too. So I'll take the Seahawks. The better team, the better head coach. Dabol is a good offensive coach, but yeah. I guess you can't argue with that. He's won two Super Bowls. I know. I'm not going to argue that. Alright. That's week four. Now we'll move on to some spreads and we'll get a few guesses in here and then we'll stump the Rob. Alright. That's twice I jumped in before the music this week. I know, man. Well, last week we didn't have the music, so I forgot. Yep. That's alright. I dropped the ball last week. It's your turn this week. The first toilet bowl this week. Denver at Chicago. What you got? Guess the spread. Who's going first? I went first last week. Denver at Chicago. I'll say Chicago plus two and a half. Okay. Bears plus two and a half, right? Oh, man. I'll go Chicago plus three and a half. Ding, ding, ding. You got it. You got it, yeah. Right on. You guys are getting good. Let's see if this one gets you. Tampa Bay Baker Mayfield at the New Orleans Jamis Winstons. New Orleans minus four. You just jumping in and going first? I thought Anthony was going first. No, we alternate. Okay. Minus, what did you say? I said four. Minus four. I'll say Saints minus two. Minus two. Okay, do some math here. Ryan's closer. It's minus three and a half. Math is hard. Ryan is on fire, though. And last Cincinnati at Tennessee. I'll go Titans plus five and a half. That's disrespectful, you little shit. I'll go Titans plus two and a half. Spot on. Where's the bell? We have a bell, Ryan. Ring the bell. Are you serious? You're on fire. There it is. Whoo. Alright, that's 36 seconds long, I guess. Stop that cheering. Ryan goes three for three tonight. Almost nails the spreads completely. Minus .5 off was it for three picks. It's pretty good. Yeah, good for you. Good job. That Bills-Dolphin spread still hasn't really moved. If anything, it's moved towards the Bills. Which shocked me. I told you guys earlier this week the game opened Bills minus two and a half. I expected the public to hammer the Dolphins there. Which they might be and there might just be sharp money coming on the Bills, but it still surprised me. Because I did see some minus threes out there as well. I still think we should do a sharp versus sheep segment. We might have to at some point. That kind of is I guess the spread. We just name it that. We've got to have the statistics of what the sharp is betting, right? If the line's moving then we know what the sharp is betting so we can say go against the sharp. They're not sharp. I think a couple of sports books show the percentage of bets on each team. If you could just look at what the line was at open and then say this team is getting 75% of the bets, but the line's moving the other way then you know there's a ton of big money coming in on the other side. We should maybe look into that. Alright, the last few weeks we've been doing Who Am I? Which was myself reading off some facts or some statistics about a certain player. We changed it up so Ryan and I are both going to be doing one of those, but if you grew up when we did ESPN had a show called Stump the Schwab where your average sports fan would go on there or sports fans would go on there and try to compete against the Schwab who was just a sports brainiac, which is what Rob is when it comes to where players went to school no pressure and everything else involved with a player's bio so we are going to play Stump the Rob. You want me to go first Ryan or you? No bro I want to go first. Do it. Alright. What you got? So is Stump the Rob here? Yep I'll guess. This player I almost said the name dude that would have been just a total butt fumble for a good podcast. Alright. This player led the league in receiving touchdowns with 11 in 2019. That's not a lot. 2019. 2019. Am I getting first guess or are you? You get the first guess bro. You're the stumper. Travis Kelsey. I did say. Did I say receiver? You just said player. I thought I said receiver too. Well it's receiver. You want to try again? Devante Adams. No. Rob. I'm going to go Cooper Cup. No but that was a good guess. Okay. I guess Devante Adams was a good guess too Tony. I don't want to say it wasn't. So he was the number the fantasy number 9 wide receiver in PPR format in 2019. He had 65 of he went 65 of 116 so 65 catches on 116 targets for 11 touchdowns. It's gross. He led the league in touchdowns and finished 9th in scoring. And he caught only half of his balls? Yeah basically. It was like 55%. It's not great. It's not a lot of targets either. 116. That's a decent amount. I mean you have people getting 100 receptions. Pukunakua's on track for like 350 targets this year. I'll go 4 years ago. I'll go maybe it's a trick question. I'll go no he didn't have 11. Stefan Diggs whatever. I'll just move it along. I'm trying to wonder why you said that was a good guess when I said Cup so I'm thinking maybe Robert Woods. No but that was also a good guess. There's not a third receiver from that team right? Nope nope he was currently only 29 years old and he was drafted out of Northern Illinois. That doesn't help me. Northern Illinois Who are they? Who's in Northern Illinois? The crumbling Illini. I have no idea. Sorry I didn't look that information up. Just stand underneath the stars here and wait for some responses. Tony looks absolutely baffled right now. Usually I'm pretty good with the college. I don't know Northern Illinois. Just to get a guess I'll say 29 right now. It's not right. AJ Brown. Yeah I should play some back games in my head. In my heads. You're so stumped. I stumped the Rob. Can you move your camera a little bit so I can see the rest of the helmets there and get different teams. I'm just going to pass because I got Thielen. This is the last one. He's no longer in the league. So that was a trick question when you said he was 29. I assumed he was still in the league. Nope. He's out of the league and he played for the Lions. My brain is melting away. I was going to say golden tape but there's no way because he's older than 29. This guy is so bad now that everyone's forgotten about him. He led the league in touchdowns four years ago for the Lions and now he's out of the league. Damn this was a good one. If you know the answer if you knew the answer at all during this during this segment after I say it definitely tweet us at UltraFlexFP or at UltraFlexRob or UltraFlexSutton or UltraFlexRyan because I'd love to know if anyone got this. It's not Brandon LaFell. It's not Brandon LaFell. I got Tony. Nothing? I got nothing. I had no more hints. What's it start with? He also there's a saxophone player or something I think that sounds that has the same name as him. I think it was saxophone. I could be totally wrong on that. It's Kenny G. Kenny Galladay. Oh my God. Kenny Galladay guys. Now he's so bad now that he just he's gone from everyone's thoughts. Yeah. He didn't even cross my mind. Guys he was so yeah he was terrible. Even when he led the league in touchdowns. He was terrible. He went to the Giants for a while right? He did. Up until this year. That's a good one. For some reason when you said his name I was thinking of him as a giant. That popped into my head like he was a giant. When did he play for the Lions but he was on the Lions to start out. Yeah. Alright good one. I got one for you. I think it's probably a little bit easier. He's Megan's over there sneezing in the background. God bless you Megan. At 31 years old right now from 2017 to 2021 he had five straight years of 100 receptions and 1,000 yards receiving. We're going for receivers in all these. So five straight years of 1,000 yards from what years? 2017 to 2021. And what was the first thing you said? He's 31. He's 31 still in the league. And he's a receiver? Yep. DeAndre Hopkins. No good guess. Adam Phelan. Nope. He was drafted in the third round out of the University of California. Bro, Rob's got me on the colleges. I don't know any of the colleges. California. The University of California. I'm trying to think of who their quarterback is. Trick hint here. He's played for two teams. Kind of. Kind of. Bro, I'm going to pass. It sounds like he'd be like, oh he played for the Redskins and the Washington football team. But it is something like that. Oh, so it was the Rams and the Panthers. You said third round out of California. Keenen Allen didn't go there, right? No. It is Keenen Allen. It is Keenen Allen. Oh, he did. Like he didn't go to Cal. My next hint was going to be that he's leading the league in receptions at the moment. When you catch 20 balls in a week, that'll do it. Yeah. So, yeah. Both Stump the Robs were good. Good job, Wheeler. Keenen Galladay was definitely a good one. Good job, Wheeler. So, yeah, I got all my... Dude, I know. You said Brandon LaFell. I was like, are you freaking kidding me right now? I feel like he had a season where he had like 10 touchdowns so I'm going to have to check that. Wow. I got in, Meltaway, Forever, the Daydream, whatever, and Looking In. Did you guys get all your songs in? I did. You were supposed to have four. So you got all four. Okay. Yeah, I got all mine in. Cool. Awesome. Well, that is it for this week. I just want to say Brandon LaFell had 31 career touchdowns. Wow. That's pretty good. He played for 10 years. Seven was his highest in the season, but... As Ryan said, if you were able to get any of the Stump the Robs, let us know. There's a massive game this week for the Bills and the Dolphins. Hopefully that goes well and we'll see you guys next week. And the Titans, but we can just forget about that. It's not massive. They're one more loss away from just getting banished. Yeah, man. Go Titans. Go Bills. What's up, UltraFlexers? Thank you for listening to our show. We appreciate all of you for your support. If you would like to support us even more, we have a website. That's awesome Looking forward to talking about business and entrepreneurship what you're doing these days. So take us back Tell us what you did in the Coast Guard Hey Joe, thanks for having me on your show. Well, it actually started in high school I joined the Missouri National Guard when I was 17 went to boot camp in Portland win, Missouri Graduated from that went back to high school and did my senior year and then moved on to AIT which is the training for the army and I was a tactical radio communicator So basically I carried a backpack radio and worked on their radios got a chance to go to Germany For a large NATO US exercise and kind of opened up my world view and my eyes a little bit You know as an 18 year old coming out of Missouri central, Missouri There's a you know, I lived in farmland. So I got to see what was going on there now I'm in another country traveling around with people that are a lot older than me that been around so Got a got a good view into a little bit about what the world was going what was going on in the world So fast forward I decided to go to college I'm in college pursuing a degree in aviation and Too much college activities and not enough good enough grades and they they gave me the invitation not to return You gotta see MSU Yes, yeah, right there in Lawrenceburg. Yep Yep, so great program great school Just it wasn't a good time for me at that time too. I wasn't ready So now I'm deciding what am I gonna do am I gonna join the army and Start seeing some commercials about the Coast Guard on TV. I'm like in Missouri You don't see a lot of Coast Guard, you know, because we're in the center of the country. We're landlocked There's there is a Coast Guard there. I found out later on but not to my knowledge at the time So I get in my car. I live in Colombia and I drive to st. Louis to see a recruiter I get the recruiters office goes. Hey, thank you for your interest But I can't recruit you you live on the wrong side of the Missouri River you need to go to Kansas City So now back in the car driving to Kansas City and Get all the stuff done and there's an eight -month wait list to get in so I go ahead and sign the paperwork and delay entry finally getting the Coast Guard and After graduating boot camp, I end up going to Tillamook Bay, Oregon So basically they've got a motor lifeboats that are like the tanks in the water They're meant to take 30 40 foot waves you get there the windows are made of bulletproof glass 300 bulletproof glass you get into the boat and You strap in with a helmet your dry suit and the seat belts and buckle in And you go out there and take waves and try not to take waves But sometimes you have to for the fishing boat to fleet that's coming in So what an exciting job, you know at 21 years old you're out there charging these giant waves Get in beat up by the waves and pulling people out of water and rescuing them It could have ended right there. I could have stayed in that job forever. It was it was amazing. It was an adrenaline rush But I wanted to do aviation still So I put my name on the school list to go to aviation the Coast Guard and I went to Elizabeth City, North Carolina for and Electronics avionics Had to wait a year for that school, so I got to play around in Oregon for a while the school 38 weeks Learn how to do all the component repair of all the electronics on the plane Graduated from there and get my first units in Traverse City, Michigan like where's Traverse City, Michigan and it's all the way up north and As far it's in the northern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan So and at the time they were flying Of course each series or what the army would have or other services BC Kings or or Jolly Green Giants So I get there and I learned that after going to school all this time. I really don't know anything So it's time. It's time to start learning. You're an apprentice. So, you know, you start learning everything about the plane and the organization And Soon as I learned everything about the HCI thought I needed to know we transitioned to 60s So then we get the Seahawks the Coast Guard version of the Seahawk so got to do that and so spend eight to ten years Learning, you know my craft and trade and and just enjoying the Coast Guard You know the camaraderie the people in the organization the mission And then took a took my next tour to Alaska So I got to go to Kodiak, Alaska and help them transition because nobody was qualified to fly the 60s yet only the first units so I got to go up there and help stand up the program and Start, you know training everybody and flying that mission with the 60 But they didn't have the 60s yet. So I had to go back to the X trees and fly that again So it's kind of flying in both at the same time. So it was nice I mean I was getting you know, three and four hundred hours a year flight time and You know, it was Alaska some of the most beautiful flying you can imagine we do stuff that you know, I couldn't pay for So got to do that And then after leaving Traverse City or after leaving Kodiak my transition again to another helicopter I moved in Detroit and we moved to the Eurocopter 65 Which is a smaller business corporate helicopter that the Coast Guard uses for its ship based operations so I got to do that and then I'm starting to roll up on my my my 20 20 years it's gonna be coming up here pretty soon. I'm at 15. I'm starting to think what am I gonna do? So I started doing, you know different college programs. So they give my associate degree Well, I got my associate degree knocked out while I still in Detroit and then we go back to Alaska where? I'm within a two -year window now so planning on Transitioning out at 20. I go ahead and get my my Microsoft engineering degree And then that takes a year to do that so the tour in Alaska is only three years so back to Traverse City and I'm looking at getting out at that point in time and that's where I start my first business up there I started business in 2002 building computer repair computers and servicing Computers for large corporations. Yeah, where did the where the desire to where the desire to search your own business come from? Um, well, I knew I needed to get out and I didn't really want to it was gonna be hard to replace an organization I'm already in I didn't necessarily want to work for a company Yeah, and so doing my own thing in my own, you know not have to rely on somebody else To get the job done because I know I can do the job and I wanted to do it myself So there was a desire. I did that job for about four years and then Lo and behold I promoted myself out of my position. I was in in Traverse City So it was either I was in you seven at the time and I was gonna make a yay So like okay, where can I go and you know make that kind of money? I'm not I'm not generating that kind of income at this point in time So kind of put that in the back burner and shelved it for a while also, I was seeing I'd get my Microsoft degree and I saw that everything was getting outsourced and Working on hands -on technology You're always chasing the certification because everything's changing so quickly within the computer industry I wasn't sure how how much I wanted to stay continually chasing that certification So decide to go back to school we transfer to Miami at that point and That was a Big culture shift going from Alaska to Traverse City down to Miami because the missions are different. Yeah cold to hot Right. So I went more from more of a search and rescue law enforcement to more of a law enforcement search and rescue So the emphasis was more on law enforcement down in Florida with the international treaties and border protection type mission So I started going back to school again get my bachelor's degree and Finished up that and then again, so I wasn't looking at getting out at that point. We're at year 24 at that point Promoted again made Master Chief for E9 and was waiting and Wanted to go back to Detroit fortunately, nobody else wanted to go back to Detroit and I was able to pick up that job as The command enlisted advisor working for the CEO in Detroit What great job great experience wonderful people I worked with and then at that point I started working on my master's degree and business with Masters in health care administration some kind of shotgunning, you know the different things I'm planning on doing when I get out I want to make sure I could cover all the bases. I had done troop the teacher signed up for it Got a degree in history got a degree and business and then what got an MBA and then an MHA and Didn't do any of that when I got out So, what was your transition like you end up getting the JOB and was it smooth on the way out because I mean you're you're prepared educational wise but What was the twist in turn? Yeah, it's interesting because you know and it's not from the organization you don't hear but I think ourselves we underestimate our Capabilities when we're in we're thinking hey, we're in this job We've been doing the same job on the military side But when I get out I'm gonna I don't I can't how do I deal with and how do I work in that? Welcome to the MMQB podcast. I am Matt Verteram, joined by Gilberto Manzano here. It is Thursday, August 24th, and that means we only have one week of preseason football up. We're all thankful for that. Gil, have you finished up your training camp tour? Are you done now, or you still got a few more you gotta hit? Yeah, no, I'm done, and when you said the date, Matt, I actually forgot what date it is today, so that tells me we're two weeks away from the real football season, so I am done with training camp. I don't know about you, Matt, but after like the fifth or sixth stop, I was over it. I saw enough, you know, kind of somewhat real football. I did check out a couple scrimmages, which felt like a little bit of real football, but before that I was like, I'm over the traveling. Let's just get to the Chiefs and the Lions for that. There's a night opener. Yeah, man, I went to eight camps. I saw nine teams because the Lions and the Giants had joined practice when I was up in Allen Park. The day that I woke up in Kansas City, I actually didn't know what city I was in when I woke up. I had like a two -second, I don't know if panic's the same. So, I'm done. I finished on Tuesday. I went up to Green Bay for the last one, which was kind of more of an add -on at the end. I had gone up there for OTAs to do a feature on Jordan Love, and I wanted to go back up there and visit with Matt Lafleur, and it was worth the six -hour round trip. It was a long, long bit of traveling one day, but we made it happen. How many camps did you get to over the course of the summer? I got to, I want to say eight, and I had like you with the extra one with the Saints. The Saints came to Southern California for joint scrimmage with the Chargers, so technically nine teams, but the way I think I did it was, I think it was five states. I drove to Las Vegas and Arizona, and then I flew to San Jose, Seattle, and Denver, and going from Seattle to Denver, that's the one I felt. But yeah, man, I primarily got the West Coast teams. I got, you know, eight teams. The ones that were easy was the ones in my backyard in LA, the Cowboys, the Chargers, and the Rams, but you know, after the, I got on the plane. You know, at one point I started thinking, I don't know how you did it, Matt, because you were driving everything. Me driving to Las Vegas and Arizona, that was too much. I couldn't do any more car rides after that. Yeah, I didn't fly for any of them. I'm based outside of Chicago. You're based in Los Angeles, so you, your teams are more sprawling for you. I mean, you're not driving to Seattle from LA. For me, the longest drive I had was Kansas City, which was like six and a half hours each way. So I did, I did make that happen. But luckily, like Chicago to Indy's not bad. Indy to Cincinnati's a couple hours. You know, it wasn't, wasn't too bad. Look, we're going to get into Trey Lance. We're going to get into, there was an injury at Broncos camp earlier today before us recording with Jerry Jeudy, with what appears to be a hamstring injury. We'll talk about that a little bit. But I, I want to ask you, so the eight teams you saw, or the eight practices you was the most impressive? And was there a team that stood out to you, either good or bad, that you were kind of surprised by? Yeah, it's a tough question, man, because I was thinking that because I got, I got a good balance of really bad teams from Arizona. I saw our guy, Connor Orr, had him at one and 16 for the, for his win -loss record, a story that came out today. So they, they, they looked like they're going to be really bad. And it was tough for me to figure out who's who on that roster. So I got that. And then I got all the really good teams, like the 49ers, you know, I'm high on the Seahawks, you know, that from our doing our, our midsummer prediction, by the way, that was tough. We had to pick our Super Bowl teams in what, like April or May we're going to do it again. And I'm so happy about that, but the Seahawks look good. I like the Cowboys a lot, but every year it's the same thing. Like they get far and they don't get past the second round. So I can't commit to them. Same thing with the Chargers. They just don't go far. Like they're really hyped to have a lot of good players. So I keep going back to the 49ers because they've shown to me to at least get to the Super Bowl, or at least make it to the NFC title game. And then Brock Purdie being healthy. That to me was all I needed to see to say, you know what? I like the Seahawks, but I'm going to leave that bandwagon and go to the 49ers. Do you believe in Purdie? I mean, look, obviously you believe in him enough that you're, you're, you're high in the Niners, but you know, they'll roll with Purdie, which we knew they would, if he was healthy. Lance is the third string guy. And I know you wrote a piece on trail, Lance, we can get to him in a little bit here. The roster's stacked. I don't think anybody questions that. I mean, they have all pros literally in almost every single meeting room. They, they, they have guys everywhere. They have a very good head coach in Kyle Shanahan, but they've been a team that they haven't found their quarterback or at least they haven't proven to have found their quarterback yet. They went to Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo, of course, now with the Raiders, who you saw as well during your tour.

Seahawks keep playoff hopes alive with win, eliminate Jets

"The Seattle Seahawks kept their playoff hopes alive with a 23 6 win over the New York Jets. Gino Smith passed for 183 yards and two touchdowns as the seahawk snapped a three game losing streak. Obviously, we hit a rough patch and it's not what we want, but we still got a shot. And so what we can control is winning next week, another tough opponent. But all we can do is control what we can control and look at the situation at hand. Kenneth walker added 133 rushing yards for Seattle. The jets committed three turnovers to drop their 5th straight game, which eliminated them from postseason contention.

Bills clinch third straight AFC East division title

"The Seahawks fell to 7 and 8. The bills wrapped up a division title as David Schuster reports. Josh Allen threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for another as the bills ramped up the AFC east with a 35 13 victory over the bears. It's the next progression in our goal. Actually, playoffs, division title, and we know what the next one is so I got a couple more games to put our best foot forward and just try to go execute to the best of our ability. Buffalo's run game was extremely productive with 254 yards, Devin Singletary rushed for 106 and a score while James cook had 99 yards and also found the end zone. The Vikings pulled out another tight victory, defeating the Giants 27 24 on Greg Joseph 61 yard field goal this time expired. I felt really good off the foot, so I

"seahawks" Discussed on Strong Opinion Sports

"I not because I hate Kansas City, but because buffalo is they're kind of a new team back into the playoffs and can say he's been here a lot. And nothing against him. I just would really enjoy seeing Josh Allen compete for a shot to get into a Super Bowl or maybe even get to a Super Bowl. That sounds really fun to me. Now let's acknowledge something Kansas City has a better quarterback. I love Josh Allen. He's elite. He's amazing. Patrick Mahomes is better. And they've got a better coach, Andy Reid or Sean mcdermot Andy reads a better head coach than K and cities than bill's head coach, Sean McDermott. So Casey has got a better coach in a better quarterback and by the way, a quarterback Patrick Mahomes is playing, I think the best football of his career, which sounds crazy. Like he's had he's one MVP since he's done amazing stuff, but right now Patrick Mahomes is making really, really good decisions and being very, very smart with a football and it blows my mind. And so, man, it's a toss up really, I think it's gonna be an incredible matchup. Do you remember this is a buffalo team that scored on every single possession last time they had the football and their last playoff game. Against Bill Belichick and the Patriots defense. This is not against any defense. And so I don't know. I don't want to disrespect any team here. I think every single team here has the right to be here, earn the right to be or played very, very well all year. I want Cincinnati and buffalo to win because I want Josh Allen against Joe burrow in the AFC championship game. That sounds really fun. Oh my gosh, two young quarterbacks who are new to the scene. That sounds fun to me, but we're probably going to get knowing that hope and because it disappointment seems to follow me everywhere. Not really. I mean, life's good, but we'll probably get mahomes versus Tennessee, but that sounds like the least interesting AFC championship game and if it's I think Kansas City would handle Cincinnati a lot more easily than Cincinnati would compete with buffalo. But I worry that if KC beats buffalo, can't say it's going to dominate Cincinnati or Tennessee, whereas I think the bills not because they're not as good a team, but just because I think that for some reason, I got a better feeling about that. And then I really want the packers to play Tampa in the NFC championship game because I really, really want Tom Brady against Aaron Rodgers and think about the possibilities here. We could get Aaron Rodgers against maybe the next Aaron Rodgers Jill burrow against a rod. We could get Tom Brady against Josh Allen in the Super Bowl like the possibilities for the Super Bowl here are amazing. But I really truly believe this could be the best weekend of matchups all year in the NFL. And I don't know. I hope you enjoy it. I'm not gonna make it. I have no idea what's gonna happen. That's what makes it beautiful and I'm very, very excited to see how things play out this weekend in the NFC division around of the playoffs NFL division around the place NFC. I love you, I appreciate your enjoy football this weekend. It's gonna be so much fun and I'm curious who you guys want to win..

"Three, two, one. Oh, my goodness. Good morning, get up or noon, whatever it is for you. I hope you're having a fantastic day. My name is Zach shameer. This is strong opinion sports episode 449 welcome in. Today is a fun show. It's predictions versus reality. We'll do ask Zach and then we'll end with a weekend preview. I actually recorded that earlier. I wore the same shirt, try to have some kind of cost to do, but there will be a weird Coe where I'm like, all right, we're gonna go to the weekend preview and it's gonna be like awkward like transition and you'll see me just go blip and then sudden you'll hear me talk about the Bengals and gosh Titans and whatever's gonna happen this weekend. It's gonna be an awesome week in a football. I can not wait. Let's jump into topic number one today. I predicted that the Carolina Panthers would go 7 and ten this past year and I was really, really hopeful about the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers traded a second round pick for quarterback, Sam darnold. He had been, I think I said humbled to oblivion by the New York Jets previously. And I thought go into Carolina was the restart to his career that he needed. And I really believe that pairing him with Joe Brady. The young upstart offensive coordinator, the guy who I thought should deserve credit for making Joe burrow into a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback at LSU. I thought Joe Brady and Sam darnold together would be awesome and Sam would prove himself to be a franchise quarterback in Carolina. I literally said, my prediction is that at the end of the year, everyone will feel confident in him and happy they have Sam on their football team. Do you feel that way? Do you feel glad that Sam darnold's a Carolina panther? Do you feel confident in him? 'cause I do not. And to me, 7 and ten was going to be an average year, but I always felt like, hey, it'll be an average year, but the silver lining will be, hey, Carolina found their quarterback. And they're building something. I was so hopeful. I was so full of belief in what Carolina was doing. And that none of that happened. It was a painful, painful year for the Carolina Panthers. Here is the reality of the 2021 Carolina Panthers. I walked into the year hopeful and a big believer. I loved what they were doing of the direction that the organization was headed in..

"To before the whole kneeling fiasco I was a huge NFL fan I like the Raiders and I'd watch the ravens when I was in when I lived in Maryland But if you asked me say you're putting together a team today right And you have these you're omnipotent You have these powers You can pull of the best running back on the best day of his life to put together a team and you can get that guy a new team right now in that condition right So I'm just talking about you're putting together a team of football team and you're given the opportunity to pick a running back from any point in time at his best point in time ever Who do you pick Do you pick Barry Barry Sanders You pick Eric Dickerson Adrian Peterson And my answer is no It's not I pick Bo Jackson Bo Jackson Monday Night Football Seattle Seahawks I've never seen anything like it in my life Never Never seen a guy Why are we bringing this up You're probably asking 'cause Jim yes miss birthday today Or tomorrow How old is he 59 Our bed Bo Jackson could probably still run in the NFL today even with his hip even when he said Peter he was not amazing I have never seen anything like it in my life Now I get it I get mocked a lot for these opinions I said I take Joe Montana over Tom Brady Oh you're crazy but no in 1986 Joe Montana I'll take him any day He's my quarterback Bo Jackson's my running back I'm just saying I'm just throwing that

Johns came in at the field goals. Boo smashed a field goal. Nail it cool. You know it was it was. I watched half of it last night and it was kind of a little boring. Gino came out with like an eighty four yard. Toss though touchdown which was pretty exciting. It was. I was cheering for gino. Because do if you know anything about gene on the past three weeks ooh the intercept. He threw an interception at the end to win. Fumbled the ball at the end to win. And that's something else happened whereas all on gino's like doing sorry bro but still lost last night so saints look at a little rough man without breeze you know. Yeah yeah i do. "One. My name is Zach shambler. I will be right back. Oh, right we are back hope we're doing very, very well. Let's now jump into the second game of watch this weekend. It was a phenomenal game. The chiefs just beat the browns 33 to 29. And it was a great game. The crowd in Kansas City was phenomenal. I didn't realize how much I missed having really passionate fund excited live crowds in the NFL. It was like a sea of red chanting, oh. Dude, I love that. Even through the TV, it's just so cool to hear and I really, really miss that side of the NFL. Now, I want to start today by giving credit to Kansas City's quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He was put in a tough spot yesterday. Basically, they had three rookie offensive linemen starting. They had center creed Humphrey, right guard, Trey Smith, and then right tackle Lucas niang was actually drafted last year in 2020. But he opted out. So the result was that Kansas City had three starting offensive linemen who had never played a down in the NFL before. And they were playing against the Cleveland Browns. The browns have a really, really good defensive line. Two former number one overall picks to deviant Clowney, and then the headline guy, miles Garrett who's a fantastic defensive end. And they got pressure on Patrick Mahomes early and often. They was running around for his life. Now the key was, they could not bring him down. And I can not understate the impact of having Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback. He's the best quarterback in the NFL, buy a mile. His ability to extend plays and survive with a bad offensive line is just ridiculous to me. I think I often don't give enough credit actually. And he makes throws that other guys wouldn't even attempt. I mean, again, predictions for Kansas City. I talked about how I'm concerned about their offensive line..

"The ones that you don't make. Yesterday we saw a calculated and patient Jameis Winston. I really believe that working with head coach Sean Payton in New Orleans is making him a better quarterback. And I'd love to see that mandate, potential here in New Orleans is unbelievable. What he can do? I mean, Jameis adds an element to this football team, and this offense, the Drew Brees just couldn't do last year. James had a he launched a depot 55 yards to the under Harris for a long touch, and I'm like , hey, I don't think I saw Drew Brees here that one time last year. James throwing 5 touchdowns is even crazier when you realize this fact. Most of the receivers that he was throwing to against Green Bay were undrafted. Only one receiver on the saints active roster against Green Bay was drafted. By the way, it's kind of weird. It was time Montgomery. He got drafted by the Green Bay Packers. He only got one pass for 5 yards. Every other guy was brought in as an undrafted free agent. The point is that Jameis Winston did that and 5 touchdown passes against the packers won their division went to the NFC title game last year. James had 5 touches on passes with basically undrafted receivers and didn't even have his best guy. Right now, Michael Thomas are best receiver is out with injury. He's coming back at some point. I feel really good and really excited by Jameis Winston. So another thing that's impressive about the saints season openers when you realize that the city was just decimated by hurricane Irma. The team currently is operating out of Dallas, they're living in hotel rooms, their families are out of school and they all got moved. That's another big story here is overcoming adversity. kind of reminds me a bit of when the saints were kind of trying to recover in the city of New Orleans is trying to recover from Hurricane Katrina. And the saints had a good year..

"Now that didn't matter to their quarterback Russell wasn't Russell Wilson said, I got to make this work. I got to figure it out. I want to win. And my point is, Russell Wilson beat a better football team. The Indianapolis Colts. And Patrick Mahomes beat a really good loaded Cleveland Browns team with a struggling offensive line a really good defensive line he was playing against. These are two Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson. And if you want to win with those guys, all you got to do is get your team good enough, make it close, and then they will do the work from there. They will elevate your football team and you will win. And then I encourage you, go look at the scores from week one of the NFL season. It's unbelievable. There's an outlier, the falcons game. I think Matt Ryan's a great quarterback. I haven't watched the game yet Jalen hurts. I heard played really, really well. Is Jalen hurts a better quarterback than Matt? I don't know the answer to it. It's possible. And I think the Broncos, giants gamete, teddy Bridgewater is better than Daniel Jones, but that's another one that's called same with Sam darnold and Zach Wilson. But if you look across the board at the NFL, the better quarterback won this week and every single game. It's unbelievable. You're like, wow, wow. If you said, hey, which team has a better quarterback? That team won. Every single time this week in the NFL. And so I think sometimes I overcomplicated. I go deep in the weeds, but this guy and that guy, it's like, wow. Is the quarterback good enough to elevate his team? Sometimes that's the question you have to ask and that's the only question you have to ask. And I would ask yourself if you're a football fan and you have a favorite team. Then ask yourself, can my teams quarterback elevate my team? Because I watch Joe burrow just elevate the Cincinnati Bengals, they beat Minnesota in overtime. Russell Wilson did it Patrick Mahomes did it. Tyler Murray had 5 touchdowns against Tennessee. When is Daniel Jones ever thrown for four and ran for one and dominated another football team? I've never seen that from Daniel Jones, and I'm still waiting. And that's why Aaron Rodgers has been.

"For the Seahawks did not close that down quickly enough. And then when he hit Taylor Taylor shrugged off that tackle converted the first down. Nice job. By Jonathan Taylor, scene with Seattle defense defense was lacking. He gets a breather. Hinds is on the field, but he's a wide out. You get to Wyatt's far side right. Three left one side of the gun for man. Seattle Rush throws downfield, and it's in complete far sideline Paris Campbell was the intended receiver DJ read was cruising in the area. And it'll be second down in 10. The Colts trailed at one point in this game. 14 3 are score right now. 21 10 was our score at halftime, though scoring in the third quarter. The defense's played much better in that quarter, especially Indianapolis after being shredded by Russell Wilson in the first half halftime adjustments. It's been a defensive second half based on those adjustments, really given his offense and struggles and fits. This is a big possession for the Colts here down 11. What? I'm running back play action fake. It's the screen and here comes high breaks a tackle at the 50. And trying to cut it to the far sideline and tackled at the Seattle 46 yard line. Nice game there. A Modi Ahmadi made the tackle four Seattle but that sets up a third down in short about two yards to go as they got into the 46 yard line. Colts are three of nine and third down conversions with the last one was the third down and 12. They've had very few of the 3rd and 3 32 variety in this game. This one is the third and two from the adult Seattle 46 again an empty backfield inside 13 minutes left in the game went swings it out the right flat. Here's the tight end Jack Doyle and run out of bounds around the Market at the 37 yard line. That's nine more yards and that is in Indianapolis. First down the drive continues. Doyle in Hinds were lined up on that right side. Bobby Wagner. Jamal Adams were trying to figure out who was going to take who they ran The crossing route. Heinz and Doyle did Wagner and Adam's bumped into.

"Associates. Licensed insolvency trustees and. I think we've all been there before. We can all sympathize with canadian. Luke wilson. Sometimes the idea of something is so good but then an execution that same something less good. That's what happened with luke wilson. Coming off season. That saw him spend days in hospital due to severe pericardial fusion to say wilson's heart wasn't in it is both literal and figurative wilson didn't expressly site the heart issue as his reason for retirement today instead said after his first day back on the field just caused enough reflection that enough of enthusiasm was drained e. Call the whole thing off which takes to make that. Call that soon. Most people will be too scared to walk away from the altar. If you will i mean. They released another player to make room. For luke wilson. Only for him to do this but ultimately. This isn't a selfish. Play for wilson. Selfish should be to keep trudging along for weeks trying to find that certain something before deciding ultimately do the same thing allowing the seahawks as much time as possible to adjust to the roster without them is the classic thing to and no one should be surprised. He's got a ton of personality to be sure enough that a place in the media's likely waiting for him but that personality never came to the cost of professionalism or work ethic wasn't had to work. "They didn't think coming into this off. Season guys people in the building here at the seahawks thought. This would be for duane brown who turns thirty six this month. This is the final year of his contract made tens and tens of millions of dollars over his pro bowl career he would ride it out and ended on a on the end of his contract and end here in seattle and then retired thirty six and then he tells them this spring right after. They drafted stone foresight to be under study. You said you know what. I wanna play again and i wanna place guys. I want a new contract and they weren't planning on that so now. They have to restructure their thoughts on twenty twenty one. Quandary digs is contract ends after this season met catch contract and suddenly after next season bobby. Wagner's contract ends again after next season and some guy named russell wilson's contents and twenty twenty. Three they can't just say oh we gotta gago sign got adam sign. We gotta go sign wayne brown and get him on the field. They can't do that without can't do that. In a vacuum may have to think about what they're planning and had already planned for in twenty twenty two twenty three hundred so far. It hasn't been playing brown so that to me. Although i think you're right matt it's not as important. The adams is an important the twenty twenty one season as brown as it was easier to do because it was planned for. It's harder for the dwayne brown contract to get done at the numbers. He probably wants because they weren't planning for this and the cost. They weren't counting on. How crazies it to offer multiple years to duane brown at that age and are there any alternatives for this year because of course it is paramount to protect russell wilson. Do they have any last minute. Here are not many quality free agents still hanging around. Obviously at this point are the disgruntled players elsewhere in league that could become trade targets for the seahawks. What are their options here. Well every year they may be some options that come up at the end of the training camp. The last cuts preseason because every year there are some salary cap casualties that you didn't expect that turns and thinking trent williams washington situated come to the forty niners left tackle. They can't happen but it's not. You can't count on that and in house. They have demarco jones. He got back on the field. Playing defensive back catching a pass against the teenage fan. Asphalt lamar was called out about football player. Closing in on forty million dollars per year. Should be taking these risks. Just for kicks responded wednesday tweet. It's better to have the kids out there having fun. Playing with guns and bleep next year running it back even more fun. So you like lamar jackson defensive by ask video due and don't okay. I like it. Because i liked lamar jackson as a human being. Do to stay true to himself since day. One like the didn't come in and try to make himself a company man. He didn't shave off the twist at dreads. He didn't come in there and try to go with fresh fade. I know so many. Nfl players have actually done to make yourself more marketable. I've talked several agents about fat several clients. He ain't do that. He didn't come in there and try to change the way he talked to speak to different people differently. No do he came into the league just like he left college same cat. He answers random kids face times audience classroom hops on. I live with kids. Lamar jackson is as real and authentic as they come. Lamar jackson train of thought. Sellers like look is gangs violence when i was growing up sports drugs. Violence and those are the options. I'm trying to make sure they choose. The right option. Like i chose however don't drown yourself trying to save somebody else. Oh i the on car little bit the aspect that i don't like is don't drown yourself trying to save someone else and that's the only potential allama here. Okay because lamar jackson the reason they care to play the game of football with you on the court is because you play the game of football professionally. Because you're lamar jackson unanimous mvp. I could go onto a concrete asphalt court right now and nobody's trying to play which boy wouldn't wasn't all that special lamar jackson. If you cease to be lamar. Jackson a great. Those games are not going to exist as they continue to lamar jackson. Great by getting hurt. It all comes back down to getting kurt. So hopefully we are on the back. End of the cove nineteen pandemic but assuming we are not. We all had to learn that when a loved one contracts the virus do what you can to support him ubereats. Leave him some water outside the door. Leave some food if you need to some flowers a car but you might not want to get into the rule. Massless up close and personal. Because you don't wanna drown yourself you don't want to infect yourself while trying to tend to the needs of somebody else. I love the intention of lamar jackson. Kudos to him for that but in the same breath don't get hurt while trying to do a good deed. i love that take. I love that. Take him a push back after. Get mine out there. You can see where they land homeboy. I love what lamar jackson said. Now wholeheartedly like you said put. Most of me loves what he said. Because i love double down statements. Double down says oh you. You'd hear me the first time we'll let me say again but louder and that's what he did. My floreal take debt. Take that take. And i like that. I don't like clarification statements because we are too damn smart too damn intelligent too damn sophisticated been on this planet to law. Patrick mahomes to be acting like oh you oughta hear me correctly. What i really meant is now. You've meant that the first time you just don't like how we took it. So i like lamar jackson for doubling down. I'm gonna be there again now. Here's the part. I don't like which leads me a little to push back on your take. Let's not act like in. The only options are wake up in the morning. Play on asphalt lamar jackson or go rob and kill somebody who. I hate that because that was the narrative me growing up. And that's why. I had the we leave around narratives around individuals who believed in a stupid narratives that that was the only options we had and i talked to the mayor competent so many times because this was something i wanted to highlight what compton because competition just got glorified and known as synonymous vyas me. You don't mean vice presidents. Come from compton you know. What many chairman. Ceos just managers teachers come from company. And all we know order rappers and a few ballplayers and i was like. That's the same thing that's getting lost is all other avenues. Not just a major boulevards baltimore if you get it but even between how real it is a baltimore. There's a student. There's a kid who's going to harvard. There's a kid who's like look. I'm a walk and we've around all these narratives that this is all we can do violence or play ball. And that's the only thing. I want to push back on the mark jackson now to your point. Don't drown as the lifeguards. Say go out there to save them. Both your not drown. So if they don't wanna be save on you. I love the fact that he is engaging in the three ts. The three ts. This time talent treasure. You have to give all three. Hopefully you do it. I see it all the talk. And i do it as well now. You could pick the times where you pick time talent treasure. He's using talent in this one right now. And he's giving them his tongue respect but also in that time you can also help them navigate into a mindset that there's more to do being on this asphalt plant football or being out there being a victim or having a victim mindset about what surrounds you and circumstances but all things considered i respect when he say because he doubled down and said it with his chest unless preface with this because now we can almost but to the aspect of is hard to ever condemn somebody for doing a good thing. What seems like it seems like in theory. We come up here how you're picking the margins but getting back to the hood as not even that. It's just a more efficient way to do that. There always is so. You don't know this because i came on the show during a pandemic. Every summer i go to nigerian medical mission. Trips with my family forty doctors and nurses were living hope ministries. We go there. We do roughly two point. Two two point five million dollars free medical work. Finally we built a hospital after several years of doing it. I realized we'd be doing a lot of stuff. Inefficiently like just as far as navigating the crowd in navigating the crowds out. We should probably sort the lines outside before bringing people inside and then asking. Hey what do you need. Is they go through triage. Let's bring them in based upon their needs..

DK Metcalf Learns Football Speed Doesn't Equal Track Speed

"The most talked about athletic feat for the weekend became Metcalf. Our second from the far right second hit of the 90 men's 100 met cops hanging with them. At the moment. It's failing even Deacon's doing a good job on the inside the siege Indochina and Mike Rogers that was close. 10 12 the winning time. Well, you gotta watch that It was really exciting. But Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf came in dead last in his first pro track and field race. But it was still amazing show and considering he ran the 100 M in 10.37 seconds, and he was asked why he would put himself through. This Was this just a PR stunt working out? I mean, just to test my speed up against the world class athletes like this? No, no, Like I said, Man just had the opportunity to come out here and warn against these guys, which is just It was just a blessing. You weren't afraid of the risk of what might happen in terms of just your profile and just your speed on the field, which we all live to see what Why were you not afraid to risk it? Because I'm a football player and athlete first man, a guy So you know, I just do things because I want to do it. So DK ended up coming in 15th out of a field of 17th in the U. S. Did you hear what that that question was like, Hey, you weren't afraid to jeopardize your profile. There's this so many of us that are held back in life because of our own insecurities and being afraid to fail. I gotta tell you, Ursula. It's okay to fail. And you know what? I love the fact that DK Metcalf put himself out there and said, You know what? I'm gonna go against the best. I love it.

You know, they like you competitive against the Seahawks 30 after like this win against the Seahawks. Does it become a really fucked vision rivalry will continue it. I think the Rams really do you have Ah, belief internally that they could go to a family Blumenfield and knock one off out on Saturday. They may believe in Fitzsimmons. But do you believe the ramps can go on the road and beat Seattle? I do. As a matter of fact, they played to the level of their opponent island with golf or without God. This is a total contrarian pick. That's it. Everybody in America is on betting on the Seahawks. I go. Always go the other way. Give me the Rams, Plus the three I can't trust the Rams on this one that quarterback bank up Enough Cooper Cup but play even though he's out of covert 19 protocol. He seems like he's going to be there. The ranch is just way too for me. Seattle has that look, The defense has played a lot better. The running game has been a little bit better. It's not all all on Russell Wilson. I can't trust the Rams and I'm not going to. I'm taking Seattle to win this one. And then the Rams will have even more issues in this off season. Compared the last season. Fitzsimmons of Freddie Coleman doing a little five game Friday, plus one for your NFL wild card weekend. Here on Freddy and Fitz Simmons on ESPN Radio. ESPN happens is at some town 80. We've done Colts versus the Bills. And like the bills. I like I like the bills as well in that match, But you're taking the bills to win by more than six. Right? "Turn it. Hand called his time inside. The ten inside the five touchdown seahawks back. It's up five. Doesn't matter alex collins is gonna punch it in for you anyway. Steve ray will. Kiro with the call outs. Columns ran for eight yards on a yard score. Russell wilson threw two fourth quarter. Touchdown passes the tyler lockett the seahawks rally twenty six twenty three win over the niners <hes>. They end twelve and four. The seahawks four game winning streak <hes>. But they are locked in at the number three seed. because of the saints packers winning the seahawks will host the rival rams in the wildcard round next week and mark. How good you feel about the seahawks. After today's game i would. I'm concerned about their offense. It's almost like a flip inverse relation to where they were earlier in the year. Where the offense was we watched it through the air. We had russell wilson pegged as a potential mvp because of how they were allowing him to play and how decay metcalf antilock. We're playing and the defense was all the concern. I mean lock it today. Set a seattle seahawks record for receptions in a season decay metcalf set a franchise record for yardage in a season but a lot of that has to do with the compiled numbers from earlier on this team. At one hundred and nine yards the start of the fourth quarter. They couldn't run the ball and it took a very typical seahawks. Finish the tyler lockett touchdowns and the alex collins dash for a score. I mean they came up late in a game where i would put this a little bit into divisional game against cal shanahan. Who robert sala. Who thought again. It's been weeks in a row. Coaching lights out. I'll made things real tough for seattle seattle things tough for the niners in the opposite way just sort of a typical nfc west beatdown and this niners team. They keep flashing to the box up in the sky where like star players not in the game. I mean they're doing with nobody and seattle. They work themselves out of a funk to some degree. do i trust them
