"WBZ the big star in the weather is great great on Tuesday then followed by real cold on Wednesday a national thing looks like they're going to break a bunch of records I get yet detailed forecast after I get to these folks here WBZ and your J. talking and Kerry in Woburn I am super impressed that you can bang out something like that acapella without any fear I mean that's impressive excuse me so we go to sh Tracy and had over and then Cheryl hi Tracy hi how are you Hey Tracy good I just wanted to say Gary's a hard act to follow I mean that was pretty impressive it was very good a couple of things here that one is on the clash we used to go to clubs and dance to music like that in the class I don't think I ever owned one of their albums but when anonymous says something silly like if you listen to the music you need to know what's behind it now you don't sometimes you just enjoying the music you don't need to know everything right and yeah so that was a comment on that and then concerning a listener coming in and doing a show you do what you do really well and I don't think people should be telling you what to do with your show because it's already great Iraq I just one I mean that the great part that's up to you but they should they should realize that that they don't realize what room the nuances of this and what it's a very fine fine tune thing that makes it go it doesn't take much to throw off the timing is crucial and timing would be thrown off with that another person no I in I agree and and anybody who is good at their craft it it gets a little annoying when people say Hey I could do that you know it's like me with writing a certain horse and somebody comes along who doesn't ride they say Hey let me get on I could show you I can do that no you can't so I do think it's important people understand that what you do is a craft and that is fine tuned and I agree with you bring somebody else and would not help yeah Hey tell us some stuff about us that about you that we don't know who was he what number you're in a quest for you yeah yeah right I have a horse farm yes I lived on the venue for a few years when I was a kid and I know you hung around brothers fight the power yeah and David Bowie I believe fame same time yeah kinda it's cool when you go to a dance club and hear those two things this is a time I remember that one time of the Ohio players and BT express and funk like that yeah they kept everybody on the dance for those who are yeah I want is Gerry could do fire by Ohio players maybe he will the next year bom bom bom bom bom bom bom I could do the the healing big box and he can sing yes yeah I want to bump bump contests just so you know to one of those funk sounds in Concord New Hampshire the price is only one stinkin drink after all that work no no so you didn't tell us that still didn't tell us something we don't know about you I don't know I think I'm a little bit boring I don't think it's I I drive a tractor I can drive a tractor a full size tractors yeah do you like it yeah yeah I I drive around farm a lot and I you know have a pick up truck in a dump truck it since the who this year I I guess those things "WBZ. Yeah. WBZ. My no eight I'm energized. I bet you, you're energized, the other end of this microphone by the effervescent, visit from the Winokur brothers man is a lot to be learned. Even from that one hour with them. And I'll give you a couple of things to learn. One is an something echoed. By my father. And that is doesn't matter what you do. If you're the best at it, you'll always have a gig. And he said my father said, if you're a dishwasher, you the best dishwasher land, you'll always have a job. And if you the best dishwasher in the world, you'd probably have a pretty good job. And I've tried to. I've always had that in the back of my mind. As a matter of fact, even when I was a pot washer. At the seafood, shanty in Edgar town, Massachusetts. I was the best pot washer they'd ever seen. They actually thought it was weird. How good I was like, what are you doing, man? Because these awful Brown, awful. Big old kitchen, pots with. Potato it'd be have potato baked on. But I would really take that. Kind of nut a little, but. Steal pad and scrub them till they actually was shiny bright. And I took certain pride in that. And that makes me that made me like even that lowly job, I felt good about it. As you know, you can tell they feel good about their craft. They are the best at their craft. This the other thing that this is a lesson to me. Listen to you. Everybody likes to hang around with seventy in a good mood. Everybody likes to hang around with somebody. Who's upbeat? And when when I say hanging around that includes employers. People will a more likely to hire someone that's fun to hang around with. Then somebody that is not. That's by the way, what interviews really all about? Really interviews and not about your resume or your skills. They, they can see is on paper when you go for an interview. It's just a find out a if you're a jerk be if they think it would be fun to work with you. If they think that others would find it be positive experience to work with you. And that is in part, why winters get so much work because who wouldn't want to hang around with them. Of course they're highly skilled as well. Talking about music and musical instruments makes me want to ask you. Hey, did you ever play musical instrument when you were kid in school? Did you play the clarinet? Did you play? What else did play in school? Nobody played guitar in school piano. Did you play something tell me about it? Did were you ever in a band? Tell me about it. Did you ever perform in front of anybody else? Tell me that story, you know, I like a story better than better than opinion, better than an opinion anytime. Do.

"Some of them speak about the president. I'll get some feedback from you on that. But I have you tell me a story about your best summer ever. Maybe it was a, a great summer because your country if you had a great summer job, if you had a great summer romance. Maybe your husband wife. Actually, you can tell me about bad summer, too. I had some beds. Perhaps. Yes. Right. Because you went to Europe. Live in a foreign country. Or blonde, one organization Owen camping. Or maybe it was just a you got in a good space with your head. Because you went to summer camp, and your counselor. Let me tell you about mine. Before the break. I mentioned that. I worked as an hospital concord, New Hampshire as an operating room technician, assisting surgeries. I was pretty young was after high school. Did that for a while and visited UNH? Realize, wow. College is fun. Again, my parents didn't really make me understand. How fun college could be? And I went and visited seen really fun. So I applied and got in to my own state school. I was an in-state student university of New Hampshire. And so I figured, you know, I'm going to school in, in the fall how the job and. Do something in the summer, so things will way different than didn't have a lot of stuff. As a matter of fact, I zero stuff zero stuff, which now seems pretty shocking. I hit to. Martha's Vineyard and just didn't come back. Really as that's how little stuff ahead. I had an apartment, but there was no stuff in it. It was a furnace department. So I had no stuff, though books. Just some clothes. I didn't need those much. Is went there? I don't even think I had a backpack, which is interesting house before every everybody had a backpack. So hitchhike, the Martha's Vineyard. All the way down. And I believe that was the time I got a ride because I got to Boston was trying to get to what's whole and I didn't really know where that hits through Boston. I stopped in Boston. And really not to get to where you needed to go to hits to Martha's Vineyard. So I went into this drugstore on Charles street. And I asked them that question, and they said they were trying to figure out what to tell me and then some guy said. Where are you going in this big Carl Stevens kind of way where are you going? And I said, I'm going to woods hole. I'll give you a ride. Very nice guy, real outgoing. I remember g with a long time ago but I remember as they say, like it was yesterday. Can the car left and we're driving by Storrow drive or that little access road before Storrow drive? Right by mass in here, and he saw something, and he said he said, I need to check this out. I work at a radio station, and it might have to call call in like if it were a news thing, but it turned out not to be thing. And I didn't ask him about it. Driving. Towards the towards what's whole these telling me about his parents and. Okay is about his life turns out that guy was. Dave maynard. Pretty cool. Right. That just kind of found out after the fact I, I know I towards the end I figured he worked at a radio station, but that wasn't didn't mean that much to be. Dave made wanting to one of the world's nicest guys that turns out. Drop me off not all the way to its hall. He went to the circle there at the Bourne bridge, the sangha mobridge tire to get from that. Bridge to what's. Which was a pain. Way to my big adventure. I don't know what's going to happen. I'm going to Martha's Vineyard and guys told me this guy Bob, I knew from. UNH. And. Have attended classes there yet? But I knew he, he went there. I knew him through girl that I know. So I lived I worked out on the vineyard at what was at the remember the harbor harbourside this place. And I think harbourside he's a captain there, I guess that's above waiter like Ed waiter or. Some fancy thing. He's gone down there for years. And the situation was that he had, maybe a relative of his, I can't remember a woman who get this house. She was a schoolteacher in Greenwich. Connecticut. Get this house to have. A people rent it and it was a big summer. She was the Queen of the house. And Bob was there and a guy named tank. Not not thank another tank but first name was Paul, like. And a couple of other people. So I get there. I remember the gate goes down on the ferry. I come into. Vineyard haven, I guess. Hitchhike to add guitar I don't know what's going to happen. No idea doesn't really matter. I guess. I can and I see a guy up ahead of me. He's already hitchhike hitchhiking etiquette would say that. You just don't cut in front of his. So I was going to walk past them, start his number far town really? As they walked by talked to the guy a little bit. Is name was Billy beard. Turns out he's a drummer he turned out to be the drummer in the band face to face. You know who know just dude other road. That's how that's our met that band. I layer on a came to know them. But the first guy that with Billy. So it's still springtime. To Ed guitar on, and I go to harborside and this guy, Bobby is really there, which is cool. He's working hard. The tells me where to meet him after. And we meet, and we go into this house, where he lives, he, you can stay over my place tonight. Okay. So I stayed over his place. And. Two beds in his room. So I got these one of those who was like a roommate situation, but the other wasn't there yet. Very nice house. It was on the road. If you and if you know, the vineyard, it was on the road towards south beach from enter town, just past the firehouse on the right. Can't them the road. Almo I can almost remember it began with him. That's all right. And it was very pleasant. I remember the weather being very pleasant. I remember the song. Associated with that moment, was ten CC. I'm not in love just happen to be playing. There was no TV. Very nice vibe also Elton John's tumbleweed connection. They had that they played it a lot. So I didn't know it was going to happen. I stayed there that night. And I thought, oh, you know try to get a job tomorrow. So pretty well. Got up early. Went to get a job. And I got a job. It's pretty easy. I think it still is easy. If you wanna be a pot washer that didn't care. I wanted to stay on the vineyard. I wanted I needed a job. I didn't expect to anything fancy wasn't. I had no expectation I grew up with no expectation of nobody owed me anything. I didn't have that whole don't wanna do that kind of job. There are certain jobs, I wouldn't have done. I didn't wanna. I didn't want to rake blueberries. That was my first job, picking blueberries for jobs, a hell job, this, you know, it was at the seafood, shanty I went in there. I think the owner's name was Mr. Carol. Right. I've somebody that guy or if you still around. It was right beside Lilly Pulitzer, the clothing store right, beside the Chavakachcheri ferry right there. I got the job start tomorrow. You my friend are going to be washing pots. So I started started tomorrow kitchen was boiling hot. There were locals. There was a, a local doctor both his kids worked there. One of them was a broiler cook he faced one way. And then just beside him at right angles, like ninety degrees. He's facing one way. Ninety degrees is the sink, or I'm doing the washing really close some standing by that broiler, which is open super hotter there and then super by the broiler, and he'd take these broiler pans. And he'd throw him into the sink right over my shoulder like one inch burning hot they'd go in the water. It's says. A contact back then it was very greasy. And that was a bummer is always hurt. I was very vain back then, you know, we all four is thing he's to make funding call in I in high school. So. I thought it was bad to have like Lassus so continue with this story. Just a real pleasant summer. And I'll tell you a lot of detail and I'm feel free to tell me something about what he says. It's real good. What happened in the summer few that made it special to meet someone goes somewhere special, maybe some, some courses maybe went to summer camp. I have camp on one time I hated that. That's not part of the story. So what break continue and you're invited open line six one seven two five, four ten thirty. Tell.

I really I think that maybe curious as Goth as he gets. But it's interesting to see a new generation of. I'm always asking questions of you. I am the questioner. I like when people ask me questions opinions, whatever that's always on the table. You know, you must have questions you must be curious about something. Here's the things that happened recently. I will relate and maybe opine over just a bit. Pennsylvania woman killed when she falls into meat grinder at work. When you say about that. She parenting fell in around eight thirty Monday, eight thirty AM. Her body was found by a co worker who heard and this is sad strange noises coming from the machine. Thirty say she may have been standing on a set of wheels stairs prior to the accident. I have never worked in a factory. The I I don't know that's kind of one of the reasons in a way just that the whole specter of that kind of thing. Never have never will would rather were selling pencils. I know. We talked about the lack of manufacturing jobs. Well, I'm glad you like them because I don't I don't want one. I I'm glad to have him here to keep people occupied and keeping flush with money. So they can buy stuff pay the rent, but you can have the manufacturing job. It's just not me. Never was. I'd rather be a waiter. That's my kind of job. Now, put it down just different people do different stuff. I'd rather be a buzzer. I think I'd rather be dishwasher set. The money's not that great dishwashing. I've I've even had jobs that were lower than dishwasher, I was a pot washer. I looked up to the dishwashers. I worked hard to become a dishwasher never did either. It was at a restaurant in on Martha's Vineyard called the seafood shanty down there. One day looked around got a job same day if willing to be a pot washer, no problem. No problem. It allowed me to stay there. Whose hard work greasy? Nasty hot. I was working right next to the the broiler. And it cook these seafood. Dishes. Put them in the broiler. And then the cook would take the food out of the broiler pan. And it was still practically red hot and shoot it. Right into the water, right? Over my shoulder. Sizzle as it went in. Be scraping potato off the bottom of these big pots. But what I never never heard me to bomb out on the job recurred to me to think. Oh, this is beneath me, I thought this is what I thought I can't wait to get a beer. That's what I thought. I thought, hey, these people left the half a bottle of wine, and they left the lobster claw. I'm going to eat it. Hey that piece of steak doesn't look like it's been touched. I'm gonna eat that it might be the only one that would do that. I I would admit to you freely. Somebody had a sweeter wine the bottom. I'm not gonna waste that. I'll just nobody's looking an inch in the bottom of an engine to the bottom of the bottle. Some if we say. If that's how you say it. Yeah. I figured they're not drinking out of the bottle at the table. I'm figuring there's no lip spin on that bottle. So I put mine on it. Did my job is people out there thirsting, I'm not going to throw this away. And I even remember that was a piece of steak there. That's that's a perfectly good piece of steak. I'm on a risk it and nothing bad happened. I I don't mind that job at all. It was it was right at the way. The Chappaquiddick ferry comes over the fateful Chappaquiddick ferry channel Ted Kennedy Chappaquiddick. Yeah. And it was kind of a legendary spot. And then there was the hotel right up the road just a tiny bit where I believe he went in went to afterwards. And we will go to that hotel to have a drink. That was a pretty cool summer that was. That was between being an operating room technician and going to college, very relaxing. How was the year? I don't want to date myself. So I'm not gonna I'm not gonna tell the next story because it would totally date. It appears that many communities in Massachusetts are near the breaking point when it comes to delays in transportation transportation. Here is a bummer. It's getting too crowded. It's it's getting like Tokyo here pretty soon. It's going to be like blade runner with multi levels of traffic. I wouldn't do it. I would not do the commute thing on normal schedule. I'm not coming in during rush hour and not going out during rush hour. I wouldn't do that. I would either move here and live in a tiny shack or our work somewhere else commuting. And I know you you can hear me right now. You know, this is true. Whether if you're if you can hear me now, probably your commute's, not that bad. But if you're coming in at rush hour, and here's spending an hour, and that traffic had an hour on the way home has no kind of lifestyle. And I know you have a house you can't you don't want sell you housing. Here got a job here. But different folks have different priorities than. Not commuting in Russia is job one for me. Sometimes I wonder I wonder if they let me do this job. I like living in town. Would they let me do this job remotely like if I ever wanted to check out and get off the grid? And. Give me give me a snowmobile. And sling the rifle over my back and. Live in a shack. I wonder have garden would they let me do the show from up there. Probably not, you know, what probably be a bad idea. I probably need to be around people. Many commuters Taylor near the breaking point survey of twelve hundred registered voters in Massachusetts. That was done in March. A lot of people. Seventy two percent fulltime employees participated said they had to leave early or late to avoid committing during peak hours. Same number said, they get very stressed angry and frustrated. Yeah. He couple that with all the stress political stress. We have now all the stress on social media stress and the commute man cannot be healthy. Whenever stress hormones shooting in your body. Most of the day cannot be good for you. Among fulltime workers. Fifty two percent for being late for work. The last few months if they take public transportation. Thirty percent. They've said they've considered changing jobs because of commute times, right? Flows employees living within one twenty eight thirty two percent. They have thought about leaving the area. How about you? You get into the point where you're almost where you would change jobs or change homes or even change states, which Aleve Massachusetts because it's not, you know, Atlanta has worse traffic, bad, traffic everywhere. There's bad traffic in in Newington, New Hampshire. I have this sort of pipe dream. Where? It's kind of an idea that doesn't seem to get much traction take a company like Amazon, it Plunkett down and some wide open place like the coda and build an entire city around it. M's going anywhere. If it does whatever. Amazon does will be replaced by somebody else doing the same thing. So you're could have entire communities moving there. Make your money there at Amazon. Got everything you need housing school is the Amazon school. I mean, it's not run our own by Amazon. The town has government just like everywhere else. But it's centered around that commerce. Pretty much everybody. Everybody that works. If you're gonna work you work Amazon. You don't have to commute fire you have housing sounds kind of Japanese doesn't. Maybe it's too weird. Maybe it's too big brother e to distortion, but. It'd be a way to get all the jobs out of cities. And relieve the pressure on the city's and have people be able to have a good job high quality of life. No suburbs. At least not yet. It'd be able to get on your motorcycle and go out on the prairie. The airport.

"WBZ 617-254-4400 had some random calls liked him. Very much just to chat in the nighttime. And Mike and main he couldn't sleep at heart operation. I I'd like. I'd like to hear more about the nuts and bolts of a heart operation someday. I'd like to know if it hurts. I mean, I know it doesn't hurt when you getting it. But like when you wake up is it how bad is it that doesn't everyone really kinda wanna know that? Or maybe that's just me. So it's WBZ NewsRadio. Ten thirty Jay talking. Mike Lavalle is your producer. I'm your host. And as the Jay talking podcast, which is kind of a passion for us. We're proud of it. We think you'll dig it and put it right at the top of your pile. And maybe you'll even stat vending. It Jay talking podcasts at just Google Jay talking. That's that's all you have to do. Google Jay talking and the iheart podcast with J. Talking will pop up. Here's my brief brief bio that IRA wrote. I did that three. Versions of it. No matter how good a writer. You are. You gotta go through a couple of times and take unnecessary words and make it better. See that Doug, Doug? He wrote up. Big paper and send it to me. And. I said Doug you need to edit. It you need to rewrite it more than once. And he's feeding feelings were hurt. But. It's the case that even professional writers and it three four versions. So here we go. This is like version three. It's in the third person. Bradley Jay grew up in the wilderness of New Hampshire and fled to Boston. By way of the university of New Hampshire says a lot in that sentence. Gets a lot done quickly. He made his first Mark in the Boston seen doing Boston. College radio and shortly thereafter joined the crew at WBZ end the rock of Boston. Barely at Bradley sharpened. His talk radio skills doing shows at WBZ AM while at WBZ and is the current host of Jay talking WBZ overnight show. This is the reason I'm. This next line is kind of the reason I'm reading it to you. The best thing about radio is the bonds, you forge with the community on the other side of the microphone says Jay for me. It's personal. And I want you to know that that's what I like about. It is the relationships with the guests and with you and with Mark some cool milestones for Bradley include. And actually, I'm going to. I don't know what to put in there yet. And then it says the JJ can podcast spinoff of the Jay talking radio show. He's current passion. Check it out and there's the link. So I guess what? I what I'll do since. I have the time is give you long version of the bio a lot of, you know, bits and pieces, but I don't mind giving you the long version, but just because it's a story. Don't doesn't mean that you shouldn't call because you should six point seven two five four ten thirty. Do you have any questions or just want to add in? This is a slightly more beefed up version of the bio grew up. And. Senator traffic New Hampshire. A didn't like it. I hated it. I didn't mind it too much in the lower grades, but junior high age. Hated it. It's boring. I run away actually ran away stayed away for a week once. It was fire away from the town where all the action was with. So I wanna stay out hitchhiking back and forth. Hated that time. I think it made me more. Little bit more independent. I guess I don't expect people to do stuff because they never did. And then. In high school. That was a guidance counselor said, so what do you want to do? You're going to be your senior. What do you wanna do? And I said I want to be an operating room technician. And the reason I knew about that was because I had an after school job cleaning the operating rooms scrubbing him with toothbrush, really detailing them. Is a cool job. And. Every once in a while, they do an emergency operation, and I'd see these people come in that were not, nurses and not doctors, and they were actually doing operations assisting on them. I asked what's that somebody said well their technicians? They're trained specifically for surgery. Most people learn it in the service. But you don't have to there are schools set my mind to do that. Me said get outta here you idiot. We never heard of that. Six months later, a few months later, they called me down. It seems as though there's some some school of operating room technicians in concord. And you should sign up. And I did and I got in which was kinda surprising because I don't think the interview went very well that was cool. It was one year of training for six months was a book learning only six people in the class after six months, you are in the operating room in the OR hands on elbow deep and people. And then I stayed there. Two more years. Stressful. And I was only seventeen when I started. So it is pretty clear it's a dead end. And I started visiting people that you UNH. I never knew the college would be so fun. That's a problem with my parents. They didn't tell me college. We'll be fun. My father didn't go. My mother went to teacher's college. They never made. They never made me understand. How cool it would be to go. I thought it would be like high school. But when I went and hung around with this girl. What was her name not important? I thought to myself my God, this is awesome. Beautiful area up at UNH. And it's a community of people my age, dating and drinking beer and go into class and learning and being smart and hanging out. It was fantastic. So I said I wanna do this applied got in. To college at UNH. Hurry. So I knew that I was going to college I didn't wanna work at the hospital anymore. So that that that summer I went to Martha's Vineyard. Because a guy I knew in college. Used would work there in the summer. His name is Bob. He worked at the. Harbourside restaurant. So one day. I just picked up my thumb and hitchhiked to woods hole. Got on a ferry. I got there in the evening state over where he lived in about each summer. They'd get a house in five people. There turns out didn't they had room for one more. And I just stayed there. Pay rent pay rent by working at the seafood shanty and Edgar town. I got shops the dishwasher the next day. So boom, I was all set. I had a place to stay and play in a way to pay for it. Stayed there. That summer went to college loved it loved everything about it. About halfway through about. Maybe the third year. I got an radio it was this guy fail. Metropolis who's also friends with Mike Nikitas who used to work at any CNN is a tremendous guy. Mike Nikitas he said, you try to get on the radio is fun. All right. So this is where we are in the life story. I'll take a break.

With them and I would ask you anyone to share with me, when you think of, a, summer, song and I have. A whole list of summer songs from the decades When you think of some moment. And asylum that goes with just share the moment with me that situation is probably no story. There's just a situation it's like a snapshot that's related to that But I. Have a kind of. A whole story that is very very summary And it's wrapped around this one song it's a, long story But I'm. I'm good at encapsulating So. It's summertime I'm on Martha's Vineyard. I'm the man for some reason I went down there and there was this woman who was a schoolteacher who went down there and she was kind. Of the Queen, of her domain she'd get a, they had a place that roommates. Maybe five people and he's us she would choose one young, man. To make her man drown dude In that year I was chosen, happily And, it was kind of a, sex thing but it wasn't also weird but it was more the idea of it. Than the actual act She liked to have the idea that you had. A guy while she was there for the summer she was the Queen. She paid for the. Place mostly and she had other people come so? I was a guy and I got to, do everything I wanted she, would go shopping what do you want me to shop for Bradley Oh really. I would like salmon and some fancy desert please So it was just paradise Martha's Vineyard, Edgar town actually on the road, to south beach little place right by some guy named Norton we're right. Beside, him? On this road near the just past the. Firehouse But I got a, call one day at work and I was working at the seafood shanty Seafood shanty's Edgar town, right by the chappie ferry right by Lilly Pulitzer, right there where you know the Kennedy thing Right next to the after he swam across that Very goes he went up to the hotel use the phone right there Some, work at the seafood shanty Hands between, lunch and dinner so hot, scorchingly hot right near the alley and all, the garbage is in. The alley stinking of high heaven And you know you and I had contact lenses. To those greasy I remember my contact lenses, being greasy and it was hot and I, got this phone call And it, was his coffin his ex girlfriend who, was sick I thought oh my God so I. Felt the need to go rushing to her aid right there, I said I can't work tonight I grabbed, my red wetlook jacket And that was kind of it Not, even a backpack as before backpacks and I had, to hitchhike to concord New Hampshire Well it was. Hard to get on the ferry and check out of. Woods hole Yarmuth what a bummer I didn't get And didn't get even close..
