"Beacon today and save $50 on all electrical work from just call one 800 freaking and stop freaking called Beacon. Our forecast sponsored by northwest crawlspace services here's meteorologist Kristin Clarke. Hopefully the sunshine today will make the cold a bit more tolerable despite the sun or highs hold in the 30s for this afternoon, and a few degrees warmer tonight into Saturday morning with a gradual increase in the clouds, but even still lows in the 20s will be close to record territory tomorrow morning. And then we track the next storm into this lingering chill producing another round of lowland snow, Saturday nights with a quick one to two inches by daybreak Sunday, and the mountains could see easily a foot of snow on the ski slopes where a Sunday we see some breaks over the lowlands, icy showers and maybe an isolated thunderstorm, and I come before weather center meteorologist Kristin Clarke, clear skies in Seattle, it's only 23 right now. While the effects of the winter weather are being felt at sea tac airport, more than 200 flights were delayed yesterday, dozens more canceled, komal force Karina Vargas spoke with travelers stuck in Seattle. Gertrude traveled as far as Germany only to get stuck so close to her destination. She told what's getting warmer. Instead of calling her, so I didn't expect that. So it is a big surprise Portland doesn't usually have that much slow. Airlines are still struggling to catch up after hundreds of delays and cancellations because of the snow in Seattle and across the country. It's not Portland only got two inches of snow. I didn't think it would be that bad, but nowing that they have 11 inches I know why they cancel out the flights. Like the whole town is like shut down. It seems like right now. A Gertrude hopes to make it to Portland along with a lot of other people. Now Alaska airlines say they don't know how long it will take

"Thursday and Friday. And I come before weather center, meteorologist Kristen Clarke. And currently still cloudy and 45° in Seattle. TSA says more than 6500 guns at airport checkpoints last year. Come O fours, Steve mccarran breaks down the figures from sea tac airport. TSA agents discovered at least 14 guns at sea tax security checkpoints during the month of January. And that was a new record for the month of January and the airport saw a record number of guns during the entire year and 2022. 113 in all of last year, a pretty big jump from the year before. And in the past couple of months, the TSA increased the maximum fine for bringing a gun through an airport security checkpoint from $13,910 to 14,950. So almost 15,000 bucks. The total fine amount is determined on a case by case basis. Agency also looking to expand enhanced security procedures at airports where agents are seeing those high number of guns. Como four Steve mccarran, a new drug is popping up in West Coast cities. Authorities call it trank. It is a fentanyl mixture, consisting of animal tranquilizers, the deadly effects can take effect just minutes after injection. According to a DEA report, that drug began appearing on the east coast and then branched out from there moving west. A small number of overdoses just started showing up in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Last year, the FDA sent out warnings about that drug, which naloxone in opioid overdose treatment can not reverse. Last year, the U.S. experienced a huge resurgence in opioid deaths. There were more than 110,000 of them health department data shows more than 1000 total overdose deaths in King County in 2022. A 43% increase over 2021 when the county recorded 709 overdose deaths. Some of fours Kelly koopmans, a bill being considered in the state legislature would make schools and day care centers a little safer, Michelle Esteban, elaborates. It's stateville 53 32 they are considering it would force the removal of camps near schools and day cares and it would prohibit homeless services like tiny home villages and RV safe lots from being established near a school. Homeless camps near school is a red hot issue in Seattle. In fact, parents of students at John Stanford international school in wallingford are demanding that the state removed an illegal encampment under the ship canal bridge. It's about 350 feet from the encampment to the school's entrance. You have individuals that have chosen to be here, tell me where that makes any sense at all. They're the ones that came there illegally camped on those grounds in my opinion. And we're saying, well, now in order to move them, we got to find a place for them to live. The bill is still being considered in committee if passed, it would take a fact about 90 days after passage. And that's come up for us, Michelle Esteban. This month, the sharper focus is being shifted on boosting stem education for women and girls around the world, more from coma force holy menino. The United Nations General Assembly recognized the inequality and adopted the international day of women and girls in science to promote full and equal access and participation. Although progress has been made, local tech leaders say it's not enough. Girls and women at this point only make up 28% of the stem workforce. And that's not enough, right? We're 51% of the population, I think it doesn't track to have only 28. Percent of the workforce reflected. Katie McCormick is the director of product for promethean. "In downtown Seattle, it's 40° at two 36. There are a few things you know well, you shouldn't pack in your bag at the airport, right? Like a gun to try and get through security. We'll passengers at sea tac continue to try and continues to be a problem for those scanning luggage Steve mccarran reports. TSA agents discovered two more guns in carry on bags at the airport security checkpoints on Sunday. And that raises the total number of guns discovered this year to 14, and that is a new record for C tac for the month of January. We asked the TSA about possible reasons for it. We know the number of firearms is up in the United States. We know that the number of firearm owners is up in the United States. And so that could be behind that. But we also know that responsible gun owners know where their firearm is at all times. And it should never be rolling around in the bottom of their carry on a backpack that type of thing. It needs to be stored properly. It needs to be unloaded. Just in the past month, the TSA has increased the maximum possible fine for bringing a gun through security. It's now nearly $15,000. The agency is also looking at expanding enhanced security procedures at airports where agents are seeing a high number of guns. Last year, Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston, Texas, topped that list. Steve mccarran. Gas is getting more expensive. Again, in Seattle gas buddy reports, an 8 cent increase from last week, and a 15% jump, excuse me 15 cent jump over the last month. Reports that on the trend, what it could mean down the road for drivers. This larger car is 60, 75 bucks. An uphill battle for drivers rising prices at the pump Sometimes it goes down to four 39 of her lucky with the discount, otherwise it goes up. Linda territory says she's noticed the jump in prices and is turning to new ways

"Throwing all these legal rights at them and we're giving them every reason in the world to not cooperate with the law. At issue is a state requirement that when a child is contacted by police, officers must first get them an attorney before beginning an interrogation. Criminal defense lawyer David tree wyler was appalled at lurie's comments. They're pretty outrageous statements really in that they indicate a complete lack of respect for constitutional rights. Trey weiler points out the children have the same rights as adults in the criminal justice system, including the right to have a lawyer present before you talk to the police. The right against self incrimination. He says simply reading a child, the Miranda warning isn't enough as juveniles frequently don't understand what they can and can not do when talking to police. But lurie says that shouldn't matter. Miranda is applicable to juveniles. It's up to the juvenile to assess whether or not he wants to talk to us. The law requiring the presence of an attorney for children during questioning was designed to prevent an officer from unduly influencing a child into waving their rights, but some now want that law repealed. Jeff pojo in northwest news radio. A number of businesses at sea tac airport joined Delta and Alaska airlines and the port of Seattle in signing a pledge to fight human trafficking. That pledge includes raising awareness of trafficking and training workers how to notice the signs. They include obvious abuse, confusion or someone submissive behavior toward their traveling companion. Alaska's Gloria Chao van der wal says human trafficking is everywhere but society doesn't talk about it. Speaking about it is the first step is that the airport can be in the air can be a truck stop and maybe even at the local hardware store parking lot. It is our job to spot and to stop. Human trafficking is often associated with the sex trade, but it frequently involves forced labor or indentured servitude, sometimes involving people from other countries, but to the U.S.

so there's a lot of energy around the Biden candidacy right now but in my view it's largely negative energy it's driven by fear it's driven by desperation there are not a lot of Democrats even this morning jumping up and down in Saint Joe Biden's gonna be a great candidate a great president but this negative energy is very powerful and that's what's driving this trend do you think it's now his to lose or is it too early to say that definitely has to lose end up and I think it's gonna be very difficult for Bernie Sanders to rebound here the one variable of course the one no wild card is by himself as I say he has not been report he's still the guy who can show astounding lapses of judgment he's still the guy who could make gaffes he's still the guy who can show his age very clearly he's still the guy who can appear fumbling and uncertain and in debates with Bernie Sanders and interviews it's still entirely possible for him to make damaging mistakes I think a lot of Democrats even if they rally around by they're holding their breath and hoping that Biden will get its act together and I've seen some signs a few signs of Byton improving on the stop I think he's shown a little bit more energy I think the campaign line about I'm the candidate of those who have been left behind it counted out is a defective and powerful line really echoes of a bill to written of nineteen ninety two the comeback kid although Biden's hardly a kid he's more the comeback teaser than the comeback kid and also this line of of of appealing to the concepts of dignity and civility and normalcy I think they provide a fairly stark contrast to the president who's in the oval office now but Biden is still Biden it was all of his flaws but at this point he's the Democrats best hope and it's gonna be very difficult for Sanders to capture Steve thanks for your thoughts again this morning ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts it's also worth noting that this morning one of the former
