Come O fours, Steve mccarran breaks down the figures from sea tac airport. TSA agents discovered at least 14 guns at sea tax security checkpoints during the month of January. And that was a new record for the month of January and the airport saw a record number of guns during the entire year and 2022. 113 in all of last year, a pretty big jump from the year before. And in the past couple of months, the TSA increased the maximum fine for bringing a gun through an airport security checkpoint from $13,910 to 14,950. So almost 15,000 bucks. The total fine amount is determined on a case by case basis. Agency also looking to expand enhanced security procedures at airports where agents are seeing those high number of guns. Como four Steve mccarran, a new drug is popping up in West Coast cities. Authorities call it trank. It is a fentanyl mixture, consisting of animal tranquilizers, the deadly effects can take effect just minutes after injection. According to a DEA report, that drug began appearing on the east coast and then branched out from there moving west. A small number of overdoses just started showing up in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Last year, the FDA sent out warnings about that drug, which naloxone in opioid overdose treatment can not reverse. Last year, the U.S. experienced a huge resurgence in opioid deaths. There were more than 110,000 of them health department data shows more than 1000 total overdose deaths in King County in 2022. A 43% increase over 2021 when the county recorded 709 overdose deaths. Some of fours Kelly koopmans, a bill being considered in the state legislature would make schools and day care centers a little safer, Michelle Esteban, elaborates. It's stateville 53 32 they are considering it would force the removal of camps near schools and day cares and it would prohibit homeless services like tiny home villages and RV safe lots from being established near a school. It's about 350 feet from the encampment to the school's entrance. You have individuals that have chosen to be here, tell me where that makes any sense at all. They're the ones that came there illegally camped on those grounds in my opinion. And we're saying, well, now in order to move them, we got to find a place for them to live. The bill is still being considered in committee if passed, it would take a fact about 90 days after passage. And that's come up for us, Michelle Esteban. This month, the sharper focus is being shifted on boosting stem education for women and girls around the world, more from coma force holy menino. The United Nations General Assembly recognized the inequality and adopted the international day of women and girls in science to promote full and equal access and participation. Although progress has been made, local tech leaders say it's not enough. Girls and women at this point only make up 28% of the stem workforce. And that's not enough, right? "In downtown Seattle, it's 40° at two 36. There are a few things you know well, you shouldn't pack in your bag at the airport, right? Like a gun to try and get through security. The agency is also looking at expanding enhanced security procedures at airports where agents are seeing a high number of guns. Last year, Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston, Texas, topped that list. No survivors. Como forest mo hider has the story. First encounter service office does say this call came in from a neighbor who saw the flames and heard the screams. Two parents and their three children are dead after their home was destroyed in a fire here and rolled Thurston county. 5 individuals were still inside the home and unfortunately those individuals perished in the fire. One teenage girl was visiting the family and made it out alive before the crews got to the scene by climbing out onto a second story roof. We're being told the home was attached to a barn and some family members were upstairs while others were downstairs. It took several thirst and county fire agencies to battle the flames. The fire was contained to the living area of this structure. While the fire has been contained, investigators are still trying to find out what the cause of this tragedy was. Identity sub those family members has not been released. A case of measles has hit here locally, it's possible that some at sea tac airport might have been exposed. As I shall say, a woman in King County has a confirmed case of the measles, health leaders say she traveled through sea tac airport on Wednesday. They say she also visited Providence Swedish first hill here in Seattle. That was yesterday, so people may have been exposed. Doctors say measles is highly contagious. And

We get the details from Jeff pojo. One of the most significant is a ban on the sale and manufacture of so called ghost guns. These are weapons without serial numbers that can not be traced violations can range from a fine to jail time. Also taking effect as a bill to make Juneteenth a school holiday as well as a state holiday, although it may not have much impact as it is celebrated on June 19th when many districts are already closed for the summer. Other laws taking effect include tax exemptions for urban construction and solar energy and changing how certain transportation projects are funded. Jeff pojo in northwest news radio. We're hearing from governor Jay inslee about the two new gun laws now in effect in Washington, they banned the manufacturing and selling of high capacity magazines and ghost guns that can't be traced. The governor tells ABC News, people deserve to feel safe in their own state. They deserve not to be intimidated when they go to a school board meeting to talk about their children's education to have somebody intimidating them by holding a rifle right in front of their nose. Critics of the new law say they violate the Second Amendment to the constitution. morning jumping up and down in Saint Joe Biden's gonna be a great candidate a great president but this negative energy is very powerful and that's what's driving this trend do you think it's now his to lose or is it too early to say that definitely has to lose end up and I think it's gonna be very difficult for Bernie Sanders to rebound here the one variable of course the one no wild card is by himself as I say he has not been report he's still the guy who can show astounding lapses of judgment he's still the guy who could make gaffes he's still the guy who can show his age very clearly he's still the guy who can appear fumbling and uncertain and in debates with Bernie Sanders and interviews it's still entirely possible for him to make damaging mistakes I think a lot of Democrats even if they rally around by they're holding their breath and hoping that Biden will get its act together and I've seen some signs a few signs of Byton improving on the stop I think he's shown a little bit more energy I think the campaign line about I'm the candidate of those who have been left behind it counted out is a defective and powerful line really echoes of a bill to written of nineteen ninety two the comeback kid although Biden's hardly a kid he's more the comeback teaser than the comeback kid and also this line of of of appealing to the concepts of dignity and civility and normalcy I
