"From like from writing creating kind of thing exactly. Yeah to two aspiring writers who are either just starting at our early in into their careers. God yeah my heart. Really goes out to young aspiring writers. Right now i think this this trend of right to amazing pilots. Yeah and then and then we'll we might meet with you right to me if i what occurs. It's it's fucking insane. You can purse here hell. It's it is so hard for a very experienced writer to write and amazing pile. It's hard to write a decent and now people want you not only do it once but twice in the twice part is to like prove a track record with it or to prove that it's not a fluke that the first one's not a fluke. Yeah i it's it's insanity and i think a lot of great writers are being missed in the process or end because this thing started at maybe six seven years ago this trend where i think agents thought at may be studios. Thought this was going to be kind of a gold mine of will get these great pilot scripts from young writers. They won't cost a lot and that'll be a new way to develop tv. It never panned out at at the the pilots now. They're used for staffing. So i'm not really that interested as showrunner if you can write a great putt. If you can't. God bless you. And i i'm more interested. Can't you mimic the tone of my show. Because that's what your job is gonna be your your job. I've not hiring you to create a new show hiring you to write this show and so that's not either of people. If you are like aspiring writers talk to your agents. Talk to you or your managers. You raps about this thing. I'm kind of like the school now. I mean i don't believe in it at all but if you have to do it i would do. What pilot and one spec script of existing show like something on the air. And if if i haven't seen the show that's on me you know i can go. Look i can go watch a couple episodes and see if if you nailed it right now Because that's what i care about. And that's what julian i look for when we're hiring writers once in a while you do come across a great pilot ed and that's fun but when you get a stack of two hundred like wow two hundred pilots. Two hundred amazing pilots. Television is all set for the next thirty and i. I've talked to some show runners who also had to have that feeling whether it just tired of the pilots and ed. Your decision is usually made in the first ten fifteen pages sometimes in the first five if you're not into it you're moving onto another script because you could. You're trying to read more writers. So yeah that's good advice. Yeah so you know. And when you're doing your pilot you know be heartbe your harshest critic at because don't think that well but act. Three is great when they get the the first two acts a little shaky. But they're gonna love ac three first to actor shaky attack three right. Yes or if you are writing a pilot and you're brainstorming. The whole season of the show. I find a lot of writers will be like well. I'm only teasing what's going to be really unveiled in the rest of the season. And i'm like yes bitch. You're never gonna get there the way that going. Yeah it's kind of evolved into don't even worry about it being a series like just write a funny pilot script and don't worry about planting these things and use it more as a writing a sample of your comedy writing ability. Even if it's a crazy premise. If you can execute you know some great funny moments at the that indicates what kind of voice you might bring to a show and you know. Hit the emotional. You're trying to appeal to lots of different kinds of shows with descript and it's real hard to tough harder to hit so that if you're lucky enough to get a meeting somewhere Be prepared at the beginning. It's this is your use an old reference this is your johnny carson set. You're you're on the couch and it's like you got you know a few minutes to make an impression and you want to first of all. Don't sit back in the couch and get super comfortable. Sit on a lean forward. Sit on the edge. Look excited to be that a when we were hiring for dunk bill. Somebody came in and did this thing like just asking julian. Hi questions julian me and it was. I okay was funny the first time you she. She did kinda so tell. Tell me about yourselves or whatever at every laugh but then the big kept up. Oh no i share. It was a bit interviewing the zodiac killer. So we consequently we had other meeting schedules. And we didn't get to learn a lot about her or like what she thought of the show or about her own life be prepared with funny stories about your family. You know. don't go in. He don't have to pitch stories for that series. A matter of fact you shouldn't and show runner shouldn't ask you to do that. Because it's i kind of i don't know if it's illegal but it's definitely unethical arm to make it's bad for because if writers are coming in pitching stories this more advice for show runners stop asking writers to compete with stories for your pilot series. If you're not going to hire that writer you. Those stories are not yours. Yeah that goes to what's happening on both the wj animation guild sides of like no free development work to like there's been so many bake offs on because everything is just a reboot of pre existing. Ip now it seems so. There's so many like yeah. We love to hear. You're taking and i'm really happy to see that the unions are really doubling down on pepe. Bad don't you know ask unless you pay but then the pay is so low that you're like oh kind of wish you didn't pay me feels like an insult. I don't know what to do with this. You want to command because the meetings have you might. You might only be there for fifteen twenty minutes. You know you gotta make an impression you have have a couple of four funny stories ready about your own life your own personal experiences where we can hear like oh boy they could bring that to the show that you know something like would duck and we were asking every person what kind of a teenager were. You like people. There was a lot of. I don't know. I guess. I i was a good kid and that was the anti. Okay well did you ever get anything. Funny happened at school. Ever get in trouble. Ever have a humiliating teenage moment What was your relationship like with your parents. And if we're not getting anything out of your life is like you know you're probably not going to get hired Fanshawe that's a great thing to have ready. Don't have thoughts on how to make the pilot better after you people do that or or yeah fixing the changing. The premise of your chef could use a little bit of work. God really yeah just all that stuff. And if it's an animated show and you're the show runner bak- fucking riders gal. Yeah why for it and particularly if you have the clout to make it happen. Then there's no excuse for not doing that. because you're writers are going to get screwed. Yeah you know in money in healthcare and pension. It's the same. It's the same exact. Yeah i'm really glad that you brought that up because when you were talking earlier about being typecast as the cartoon guy i feel like a similar thing is happening with the division of animation guild covering shows versus writers guild covering shows and you know no shade to the animation guild and the fine people over there. They are all very nice. Fine people but you know when you look at the pay discrepancy. There's this really great graphic going around right now that you know just like in the simple facts like the pay for. Wj covered show is triple the amount of the animation guild show and what that does is it makes it look like all the animation guild animated shows are less than and therefore the writers that are working on. Those shows are basically like the level of an intern in the wgn is and it becomes really difficult to break out of that. Oh yeah the tv. The market being what it is right. Now if you're a comedy writer trying to break in. There's more chance of you N. even for experienced right. There's there's much more of a chance if you landing on an animated show now than say like a multi cam because they don't make that many multi yes..

"As we always like our poor actors always had to say you've just been hit by a hit squad and inevitably you. All you get in. Return is blank clo. Yes exactly. that's very funny. And then we said we would have to edit out the part we explained to them. The shows like candid camera. And so when we say you've been hit by the hit squad if you know how people react. I can't a camera there. You could give us something like that. Oh my god. That's amazing some people will just refused to do other people we would have to pay. That's excellent yeah. We had a very fun. Cast of like great improv actors. Who were very brave doing hidden camera. Bats knowing that the payoff is not going to be good at the end that you're gonna have to explain. I'm just. I'm just thinking back. We had a out by got a standup comic. I think his name is david would and he was like filling in for one day on the show and he asked us like so. Do people get upset with once you tell them that. It's all fake and we said no. No doubt people are call. They might not know what you're talking about but nobody gets upset and we were in a video store in west. La and the bit was people. Were renting vhs videotapes and the clerk with loudly. Say the names of what movies they were renting and we had faked movies under the counter that we would substitute for what they're doing and they were all like porn movie. Titles and the idea is we would have the aca would have to say it out loud. The customer gets embarrassed because there's other people in the store and live and so we're told this guy don't worry it'll it'll be cool. Guide grab he starts doing the bet at guys. What are you talking about i. That's not what i read did. He goes. I'm afraid it is sir here. They are show the guy ramle ac by shirt and pulls him over the counter so we had to go running in from the van like joke. At least you got a story out of it to say if you did that show today and it was produced by absolutely they would re cut it to be like a tim. And eric. You know scouring. With all these weird zooms and mike pizza transitions or whatever. That's amazing. well. Mike we're starting to wrap up the show before we do you've already given some very good insight and advice but would would you say could you give. Can you be don nas to our listeners. And give some advice for to our little. Mike scalise listening. You've noticed the shaking. Oh.

"The the weird ending to that whole thing was ultimately ordered show it tested well and they ordered the show and that the star of the show forty robert shovel got sick and he was so they ultimately the short version is we wound up. Not doing the show. That's amazing that you are You know of for pretty early on in your career at least in terms of making your own stuff. It's pretty remarkable that you're able to kind of recognize like well this thing that you don't like happens to be the thing that i do like and this is i want to do instead of you know if you maybe be taken those changes or notes like you know to like very seriously. It's possible that you wouldn't have even gotten this series order so wouldn't have tested. Yeah the temptation. I think for Writers not so much temptation. But it's a trap you you can fall into during a pilot is trying to make everyone happy by ad- Trying to take all the notes a thinking that that's the path to getting a show on the air because at that point it's the night before you're gonna shoot it if you don't know what your pilot is you're in trouble. And if all these notes coming in their their you know their conflicting no to you don't know how to put. You're trying to keep the network. Happy and i usually. This does not work out. You do a panic rewrite the night before you shoot your swirl out and start over again and then the the problem is when they don't pick it up nobody says hey sorry. We really steered you the wrong way. Just do you may find that like a lot of times. You'll get conflicting notes from the same source which just exposes them for not knowing what they want. And so that's when listening to your gut and not bending over backward for the sake of just everyone getting along is the right instinct to sharpen in you. Know continue to strengthen overtime. Yeah because sometimes what they're saying too is i. I've learned this over the years. What feels like they hate. The whole thing sometimes can be like a couple of like little moments that they're not that they really don't like but they're they're articulated in a way where the it feels like they just hate the show. So sometimes you can find those moments and try to find you know kind of the note behind the note At tweak those things or you know you want it to feel like a collaborative effort if it just turns into no fuck you. I'm not doing then. They're your pilot is probably dead just because of the way you act. Yeah you're not using. Yeah right yeah yeah. They're like we're going to replace this guy and put scully in immediately so you can if you can find a couple of ways to try to hear what they're say and maybe tweak it or shoot an alternate version of it and then make the decision later still get your scripted version. If you can but you know try to take a hard look you know because it is a business and you do you do wanna sell it but these are like lessons learned. You know own time That it is a team effort and and they're not trying to ruin your show right. They want yeah they wanted to be good to you know because if it goes well it's a feather in their cap That so it's always like a bit of a tight rope and as the there's a lot at stake for everyone. Yeah that that's a really good lesson Just in terms of like. I think it would be easy early in two once development career to kind of think like it's it's them against me. It's just like no. We're all on the same team and like we really have to like all of us against you know it. It does seem like an ego. Management is a pretty economical for a lot of folks in terms of like well. I know what's best or or the opposite. It could just be like yeah. I don't know what the hell i'm doing. And i'm gonna tell to one how little i know instead of kind of faking it a little bit. Which seems important. Yeah and you also don't know like like did they. Just come from another like pilot rehearsal. That went terribly. Are they starting to lose faith in their choices of the shows that they ordered to go to violence. Yeah that is so they may be coming in kinda freaked out about what they just watched or upset about that and then they commit to yours at may. Maybe zero went on stuff that they're not liking so you just you just don't know so you know it's trial and error. I've made some dumb mistakes in my life and handled some situations not great. You know you learn these things overtime so jumping ahead to the next show that you created that actually got on the air. What was it about that process. That was different. I mean obviously now you have it airing in front of you know millions of people. Did that change how you navigated that show or did you learn new lessons with that process going forward. Oh yeah you you learn. i'm still. I'm still learning. I remember my sixties. And i'm still. You're still learning stuff because the business is always changing but yeah. That show was a show. I i think you're referring to the pits. Yes yeah yeah. That was a show the the network had been looking for what they call it. A live action cartoons to air on sunday night where they could put it in between they know animated shows but still have that same vibe of an animated show so we My wife julian. I came up with this show called the pits about the unluckiest family in the world and we wrote the pilot. We had a really terrific. Cast ulan baker lizzy.

"Sneaking so gave me an honorary degree. Yes okay great. Well i was going to bring that up as an example. That college isn't real. But i guess you already made that case for yes. It was a secret. I kept from my kids for a long time that i didn't go to college. I forgot i slipped up somewhere once talking to somebody else but a couple of them were in the room and they heard it and you didn't go to all my college all my lectures about you gotta do good in school. If you're going to get into a good college at excellent. I mean as we've been discussing you've done quite well for yourself but i think that that also speaks to just like the chutzpah and you know the want and passion of like breaking into this industry learning from the people around you rising to the tasks as their you know recently vacated from people who were going through various tragedies and just just ready when i came out here i had no idea what i was doing. I didn't know anybody in the business. I there was no like pipeline of like the harvard pipeline at like emerson had a big you know Show business pipeline. At the time. I was one of the thing i think we're like ignorance was my friend Because if i really known what the odds were of succeeding. I probably never would have even made the trip out. I was like doing shit like you know. Just going to tapings of shows. And i bought us tv scripts at larry edmons in hollywood and studied them like textbooks and had taught they like and then i watched the if i could find the episode if it happened to be on like a repeat of the episode that i had the script wide. Follow it out. That's crazy like what they did. What they changed and i gradually took kind of taught myself the format of a tv script and figure out where the commercial breaks. And that's great. that's great. I love that. I mean there. There's so much There's so many resources. Now that are available to people online And so people that are listening to this. That are interested in doing the same thing. You don't even have to leave your house and you could look up like some pilot scripts and stuff like that but it's such a good way to To kind of learn it firsthand of just kind of like you know same with writing a song like you need to be very familiar with like how songs work were here. Really writing yeah. It's all about sharpening your instincts in sort of like having your fingers learned that muscle memory of like how to write dialogue. How to cut to the next scene stuff like that. And i feel like most of my cloud storage is just like old pilots that i have to keep buying more to keep up with the storage anyway back. Gary shandling pilot is one of my very favorite ever. It's great they also have a kind of a newer friend who we share a love of larry sanders and i'm like well then. Of course you're my friends like this is excellent like i already know that you're my friend. Now larry sanders is so good. That was that was actually. That was one of my spec scripts. I i think i had. The first larry sanders specs grew about around town 'cause i just loved the show so much and i wanted to get one out there really fast because i knew the market was going to be flooded with. Larry had a in the way that it got flooded with seinfeld. Script shot Do you remember what the premise of your spec script. For larry sanders show. Yes actually i do It's an idea. I come back to periodically where larry has I forgot who the guest is on the show. Arabia's bike bob hope basically someone's going over to entertain the troops and larry's just like kind of finding like their patriotism. God you know. I really wish i could do that kind of thing i got. I'm tied down to the show here. But boy it out if i could go on a trip like that. Let's feel so good to see those faces and he like we'll come join me. He kinda gets trapped on the air into making a trip. He does not wanna make at all. The rest of the show is have tried to get out of it or get somebody to take his great. Yeah that's so curb your enthusiasm too. So we're going to take a quick break Listeners let.

"I asked myself my life. I'm looking at these photos. Just like cast photos. I guess and i really want to watch the show. I can't believe how young matt leblanc is here. He looks truly seventeen years. Hold these pictures are wild. I wonder do you know if this show is streaming. I have no idea. I would assume that somewhere. I'd like to find. It definitely looks fun. Yeah buried in peacock or something. Yes exactly yeah. It was a clubby show like so whoever would be running married with children. It was sold as a spin off of married with children but they hadn't spun. They shut bay shot up pilot. And they put ed o'neill into the pilot so it could be called a spinoff. I love that it was a. I think we only did six. The first year in the second year it came back with a new title and without joe bologna. Wow called vinnie and bobby. But battle block was was great. He just he was just a sweet kid. He was nice to everybody and bologna was so if we cut a joke like if we cut something of matt's for time if the show was to law bologna would tell you know they cut that 'cause you 'cause you did it ron bullying and just like getting his head just loud but i think matt got the last laugh so he okay. Can we talk really briefly about your schooling and then jumping into comedy career. Because i know we talked last time about like you entered the simpsons writers room and all of these other writers. Have you know graduated harvard. And then you came in your college dropout but you you manage to do well as well right. You're college for about. Did i get that right. No maybe yes. You're actually being generous community college. And i only went for half a day. Okay then quit because he was a holyoke community college in massachusetts. And i quit after half a day because if you quit in the first forty eight hours you got a full refund. Which at that time was one hundred fifty dollars or so. It's like movie theater rules. I get it all right cool. Yeah yeah. I had to spend the money out. like fog. hat was covered. The town or something needed the money for concert tickets. Gotcha well that's something came up in my research where i saw. Is it true that you got an honorary doctorate for your comedy writing later on. Is that true. yes yes. One of my daughters graduated from westfield state university in massachusetts and she she got a teaching degree. So somebody i went to high school with was working at that college at that time so i was a last minute replacement for a commencement speaker who cancelled keeps.

I think the audience you're that was take seventh. Sadly he's being generous. He's being well. Let's just jump into it. Allie what do you think yes. I'm i'm in. I don't know when you'll hear that. But i'm in listen. We're recording this. It's it's nearing the end of the pando. We're all just like grasping at straws trying to figure out what to do with our lives next vaccine relaxed. What am i saying. Let's just. Oh my i'm like having a bridge it's beautiful. It's it's truly excellent. Let's jump in. And if you feel like putting on your video at any point feel free listeners. Just know that julia's wearing an excellent jumpsuit. So any she looks phenomenal so we are in bill homestretch of our last five of this version of our podcast and were so excited. Because you've already heard our guest today. So let's just bring them into the room. We have the one. The only former show runner executive producer writer. Man-about-town mr mike scully. Hi everybody make things. She joined the show at so my pleasure where super radio on this we. 'em it's so nice to be a part of something that you're such a well oiled fuck you. You're in our house and so we had you on. The previous iteration of our show was called. Everything's coming up springfield and that was a very fun time because you were convinced that you wouldn't be able to fill up like are hour long episode talking about one episode and so you picked two episodes and you found. We're pretty chatty. So we're able to make a meal out of anything so but it's great to have you back in so today we really want to Chat a little bit about The simpsons should you choose but really we want to just chat about the other aspects of your career and some of the things that you're the most proud of as well as some of the things that maybe never even saw the light of day because that's always a lot of fun. We want to dig up the pilot graveyard today. Want you to ruined some. Nda's we want some bridges now. Whatever you're comfortable with. I'm opening up my i don't want to forget you. You really don't forget anything i think. That's a great testament to so many wonderful failures. So you've you've been on many podcast. And so i'm sure a lot of the people who listen to our show. Listen to the shows you've been on but if you wouldn't mind starting somewhere along the earlier part of your career and and you know i think when you were on last time we actually talked about some of the Stand up comedy that you did. I think yakov smirnoff came up but if you kind of get us into the always comes up. He three times but if we could start somewhere earlier into the career pre simpsons any of the projects that are particularly greater particularly cringe. He will leave that up to you. If you could. Just choose a project that we could start to dive into all right. We did y'all last that we probably talked about what a country which is my first staff job because that was a show that started you off and don not so we can jump ahead one too. I mean it is. It is pretty hard to say. Let's leave don knotts. I mean at that to hear more about that. Oh i don knotts was amazing in. I was going to say in the first season of what a country but there was only one he. He was brought in about halfway through the season. It was a twenty six episode season. He was brought in to replace another actor and he became like if the show is about a night. School like english as a second language class For recent immigrants and so don not was brought in as a new principal of the night school and that was a huge thrill for made for the audience. Went crazy. the first time they saw it was a live audience. Show and for me. It was just gigantic. Like i stopped caring about the show and all we wanted to get to know now. Did you tell you any crazy. Hollywood tales while you were working with them not so much. A crazy chelsea gave a lot of really good career advice. There was a lot of very sound almost fatherly away. Like never leave job till you have the next one lineup. Because he these were based on like he was kind of giving the wisdom of mistakes he thought he had made in his career. So don't don't leave till you have another job lined up. And he was just so much fun to work with us. A total perot. He would get out there and at like. I said the audience would go nuts. Every time they saw. I was constantly asking him questions about. Obviously andy griffith but also like his movies. Don knotts was a big movie star and the sixties a very unlikely movie star and he made like five or six movies where he's the lead now like yeah like the ghost and mr chicken The incredible mr lebed the shakiest gun in the west. My dad showed me the love. God when i was like nine years old and i don't know if he intended for me to not have any friends on the playground to relate to anybody but like i was by far the only kid who was like. Y'all haven't seen the love. It's the guy from the apple dumpling gang. That's why he went to school together..

"Be indicted. Two people had a lot of questions about her role in all of this and at a certain point that detectives stated that they didn't believe in ece was involved in scully's murder and evidence from their computer suggested that she suspected that her husband was responsible early on but that being said if this was the case. Why did vanessa stay with him. Why did she move to oregon with him. That looks pretty bad for her right. i don't think she's culpable in it. Everything i've read is. She really wasn't involved if she did know that it happened but at the same time if he was missing and then all of a sudden a month later your husband's like we have to move to oregon and you find out he was dead. Oh that's a tough one. Do i think she was directly involved in his murder. No i don't think she played a part in that. But i mean it did take a year to arrest him and she was with him so i. That's a tough one. Picks your husband up from the woods and then found out you know however long later that that's where his body was found i mean how could you not connect two and two together. One thing we want to say. Is that as far as robin gold's behoove. We've mentioned a few times as jeremy Girlfriend but i wanna make super clear her involvement in any of this in terms of the swinger lifestyle. It's not clear it's also not clear whether or not she knew about scully's relationship with vanessa if she didn't know if she did but she made comments publicly that made it seem like she wasn't hateful anger offensive. She seems really lovely and she made a really compassionate statements but anyways that's an aside so when ken mcbride was charged he pleaded not guilty and his attorneys work to mount a defense because the trial was going to be a big to do the prosecution plan to bring seventy witnesses to testify against him and in april of two thousand ten while mcbride was waiting trial. He apparently attempted a failed suicide. He stashed away medication. He was supposed to be taking and ended up taking it all at once. The case was largely circumstantial extremely complex. There were thousands of pages of computer data including instant messages and other computer. Evidence that evidence of mcbride cell phone use through area cellphone towers but in a plot twist mcbride abruptly pleaded guilty and accepted a plea deal. And here's why right. Before the trial the prosecutors introduced a surprise witness in the form of mcbride's jail. Cell me fifty. Year old travis martinez. Martinez came forward until prosecutors. That brian had actually confessed to him. Confessed to killing scully where they were sharing a cell together. Martinez coming forward was enough to convince mcbride that he didn't stand a chance. So he pleaded guilty to second degree murder with a firearm and finally with his plea can mcbride would finally provide his version of events. And whether you believe story or not is your own call. But we don't believe according to a statement the day. The jeremy arrived to help him with his roof. Jeremy got there but instead of fixing the roof. The men decided to go target shooting instead. So can how does nine millimeter pistol. And he gave jeremy his twenty two caliber rifle and cannot as. They're walking into the woods. The trigger from his handgun got caught on the button of his jacket and the gun accidentally went off. The bullet. hits scully in the back of the head. But the shot wasn't fatal. Scully was still alive. So can pick up the twenty two caliber rifle and shot him again. He said he was scared to call nine. One because of how it would look because of germany's relationship with his wife so instead he shot him multiple times in the head and then he went and disposed of scully's body in following this admission. Ken mcbride it was only sentenced to twenty three years for plotting the murder in killing. Jeremy scully i mean i liked that. He pleaded guilty because he's in prison for what he did but the same time he only did. Is it twenty three years so twenty. Three years is what coach school. He's life was worse. That's all he's gonna spend in jail. I mean he'll be out by the time you sixty and still has like years ago. Which is really quite sad. Jealousy can slip so quickly. You won't even know it and then all of a sudden one thing will happen and puts it for someone and then that jealousy takes over and you. You won't even know that coming at you. I don't wanna say that. That sort of lifestyle is because i think if you're surrounded with a community that's into that and you're all consenting that's great even if you're in a community that you trust there still is an aspect that can be risky known that this guy was going to murder him like no but at the same time how quickly someone's jealousy can slip and just make you target is quite startling. So yeah it kind of it kind of makes you nervous to like get out. People like try new things. Because you don't ever know what someone else's motives are like. How would he is known. That can had the motive to kill him. He probably had no idea so. I think it's just keep your guard up as sad as that. sounds like. you don't know these people very well. It's kind of a scary story because you never know when someone's gonna snap on you and you might not even be fit for it and it'll be over before you know it. It's just supposed to be sex. An alternative lifestyle that can be sustainable for some but what happens when two individuals were just supposed to be enough for the sex. Find a connection. Actually start falling in love. What happens when they start to have secret meetings and conversations. What happens when the idea of being apart from each other even just for a few hours makes them wanna tear their own eyes out for most. It just gets messy heartache. Jealousy fighting and breakup but for some the occasional few maybe just maybe the rainbow at the end of the storm is a new relationship. But for jeremy scully ended it in the worst possible way with his body..

"About. This affair even can had killed scully heavily. Get him out to the woods and ultimately kill him they were looking squarely at can now and they believe they had enough to compel a judge to sign a search warrant which they ultimately did and from the home they see. Several guns can admitted to owning several boxes of ammo and a small bag of marijuana police. Seize the items as well. The computers found inside the home. So while the truth about what happened. Scully loomed in purgatory. There is a memorial service for him. That was held to help him to rest. There is a live band and several people shared stories about him. Pole vaulter who had worked with scully came from all over the country and different universities to attend his memorial and they even had pole vaulting at the memorial. The western university pole vaulting team put together a collage of pictures of scully. First family coaching pole vaulting and hanging out with the team. And there's also a buck. The people could sign and write stories about scully that was given to his family. It was sad somber day and it was only made worse by the fact that there was no one to blame for taking his life seemingly so senselessly following the weren't being served. On the home of the mcbride's the police questioned ken mcbride. At least four more times they're also more searches enduring those searches. The police had a warrant to collect dna from mcbride. They also searched the couple's backyard using metal detectors using dogs. But they wouldn't elaborate on what they were looking for. In media reports they collected his hair and outwardly. it seemed as though investigators new. Ken mcbride was responsible for scully's murder but they were struggling maybe to prove it to the point where they actually arrest him. Those following the case closely. We're expecting arrest imminent but that didn't happen in fact the mcbride's made a questionable move. The literally moved out of the state. They moved from washington to oregon in the throes of his murder. Investigation in mind you. It's at this point. Suspicion loomed over vanessa. Heavily to she told the police that she suspected her husband's involvement in this crime. In if that was the case why would she agree to move with him. It was perplexing to say the least people are upset but at this point they still didn't have enough to arrest ken. Mcbride and months past then in january. Two thousand nine more shocking news. Vanessa had given birth to a baby boy now by this point. Ken mcbride was publicly. The main suspect and the rumors ran wild by now. The information about this love triangle was known by most people familiar with the case and people began to speculate as to whether this baby could have been code scully's and beyond that could that pregnancy have acted as a motive now these rumors inflated when it became known that can actually had a vasectomy and shouldn't have been able to get his wife pregnant. Yes mcbride became jealous when he found out his wife was falling in love with germany. Scully and then you have kind of this underlying. She had just found out that she was pregnant. And mcbride. how the secta me so. You can kind of do your own mouth when this happened. And then she had a baby in january of two thousand nine. So i mean if you have this kind of consenting relationship what would trigger it actually lead to murder. And i think that that's a pretty good catalyst for that that you just gets into a whole tangled messameh that more. So is what triggered it than necessarily that. She had stronger feelings for him. Finally almost a year. After jeremy scully had been found shot to death in the woods can mcbride was arrested and charged with first degree murder and while it was largely a circumstantial case. They had uncovered a ton of information about the love triangle. Between scully in the mcbride's and here's what we know. The three of them had met at an organ sex party months before scully's murder and two weeks before scully's murder scullions mcbride's attended a swingers party in portland together and they're witnesses. Who also attended claimed that ken mcbride was glaring angrily at scully throughout the duration of the event. After this party vanessa apparently asked her husband if she could quote unquote play with. Scully can apparently gave his consent tour but later expressed concern about the relationship and according to police it appeared. That can was okay with vanessa's relationship with scully at first but slowly grew to resent it from that point the relationship. Between scully and vanessa mcbride escalated. They were spending time talking to each other secretly. They were spending time together. When ken was out of town they were talking chat rooms and they were even discussing possibly having a child together they were telling each other that they loved each other friends. Search of ken mcbride's computer revealed he'd become jealous fearing his wife had fallen for scully which she had he said in one exchange quote. I know you would really like to know what. Put me over the edge. It was a look in your eye when you were telling me about your first night with jeremy scully. Miss emma was written about three weeks. Prior to scully's body being found can mcbride then begins spying on vanessa reading her archive chat threads between she and jeremy scully and her emails and things like that in one of these chats. Vanessa told scully that her husband can would become quote unquote unglued. If scully interfered with their marriage weeks later police uncover that scully and mcbride's had actually made a sex tape to gather. Police watched said sex tape and noted that can mcbride was mostly excluded from the activities again. This tape was made only weeks before. Jeremy scully was killed but beyond the tape. There was more evidence. The police did something on the ground. Where jeremy scully's body was found. His wall was real that the sniffer dogs that they used were able to track the scent of ken. Mcbride's shoes from the area where jeremy was found to the shore of lake were divers recovered personal items belonging to scully. The dogs also tracked can mcbride sent until it almost reached the trail head which is exactly where he had. Vanessa pick them up on the day. Skull disappeared then. There was more evidence. Back at the home of mcbride's investigators also found a photo of ken mcbride holding a rifle. The exact same type of gun that we used to kill scully however remember they raided this home. They took all of his guns but they didn't find the type of gun. That was used to kill scully but in this picture he was holding ken. Mcbride was holding the type of gun. That was used so what they deduced from. This was that he disposed of it in a place where it wasn't found but it did prove that he owned this type of gun so this evidence is glaring so with all of this. The detectives in this case had a solid motive for murder and in terms of physical evidence. They had that picture and they had found the same ammunition in mcbride's burlington home. That was used to kill. Jeremy scully and while it seems elementary to us listening that can is the culprit. We've addressed this several times. It took almost a year for them to rest. Ken mcbride on march eleventh. Two thousand nine. Why this was. The case is not public knowledge. Ken was charged with first degree. Murder of germany scully and following. His indictment people watched and waited to see. If vanessa would.

They were looking at the scully's use of a website for personal ads aimed at sex and swingers but also said it was too early to say if his death might have something to do with anybody that he met online. Now the skagit county chief criminal deputy will cart said it could ultimately prove to be a significant factor or no factor at all. Meanwhile meghan was none the wiser to this information she had simply heard the cote. Scully had died and new no other further details. I didn't think about it for quite a few years. And then i ended up going and actually delving into it and realizing like what actually happened and just the whole web of things that were happening kind of behind the scenes was probably three years ago. I started getting into like true crime and different shows in different podcasts and then somehow like really randomly. I don't know if it was like someone that i knew growing up at posted something but i actually saw a news article about this ferndale high school track coach that have been murdered and i clicked on it and i was like holy crap. This is coach school. Schooley like and i started actually reading into it was like who on earth the want to kill him and it just baffled me i think finding out the swinger thing was a bit shocking. Because that's a bit out there but i also know people that have been into that so i got to like sit here and judge but yeah for such kind sweet person was a bit shocking that okay. So as far as we're things were in the investigation the public knew very little except for the fact that the victim in this case was engaging an alternative lifestyle at the time of his death but behind the scenes. Investigators were untangling tangled web looking for the threat. They believe would lead to coach. Scully's killer okay. So you have to remember what we told you in the beginning of this episode. When scully went missing he was on his way to a friend's house the home of thirty four year old. Ken mcbride so the police question ken several times. And they also questioned cans wife vanessa and it turns out that there was a lot more to jeremy. Scully's friendship with this couple. When questioned vanessa mcbride confessed to the police that she and scully were having an affair. And you guessed it the nas. Ken mcbride were also swingers. Here's what we know about vanessa and can mcbride. The couple had actually been together since they were teenagers. Met ken when she was just thirteen years old. So the high school sweethearts exchanged vows right after they graduated by two thousand eight. They had a preteen son in for the first years of their marriage. She was a stay at home mom but she actually wanted to be a teacher. She was in and out of college in. That's really what you wanted to do. But she never finish and that was kind of because they couldn't afford it. Ken mcbride had difficulty holding down a job and he was reportedly fired more than seventeen times in the early two thousands alone so their marriage in general is pretty mad. Like not a lot of fire left. Been together since kids probably. She's had very few sexual partners if any more than one in in ken. So it's at this point. They have this conversation decided to step into the swinger scene. And it's in this lifestyle where the couple actually meets jeremy scully at a swingers party in oregon months earlier but according to nasa her relationship with sculley had become more than just sex. But this alone. Didn't make vanessa think her husband of being involved scully's murder but we did make her suspicious. Was that on two pm. The day scully was thought to have been killed the day he went missing. Ken mcbride called her in astra to pick him up near trail head on old highway. Ninety nine north within a mile or two of where scully's nissan sentra was found. So this is a glaring. And if this wasn't enough of a red flag vanessa outta that. When she arrived home no work had been done on the roof. There was no sign of skull anywhere. So this is sort of like this flashing light of like this is your dude when the investigators turn to ken for an explanation and for him to account for where he'd been that day. Here's what he claims. He claims that scully stood him up so he worked on his resume for a bit and then he looked for jobs by the way. Ken was unemployed. Kind of perpetually unemployed by the way once he was done with that he opted to go for a hike. Needless to say. The police didn't buy this. There were a million questions. How did can get out to that trail head to begin with. How angry was he.

"Sammamish sounds vaguely familiar. That's because it's where ted bundy abducted two women from ultimately killing them in the woods. So lake sammamish of i five. And he's looking if you're looking at it like north of the top five is kind of off to the right like sandwiches off to the last and inbetween were like sandwiches and the coast. The bay is is this kind of force that area and it's very rough kind of mountainous very forested. You're you really are kinda very heavily populated traffic area but it is also super remote at the same time. And it's as the police approach this wooded area around lake sammamish that they made a disturbing discovery they could see coach scully's gray nineteen ninety-three nissan sentra on the side of the road and when police approached the vehicle that they observe that one of the doors was ajar when they looked inside the car. They noticed that the key to the car was still in the ignition. All right so these are pretty chilling since but the thing was there was no signs of foul play in or around the vehicle or nothing glaring. At least there are no signs of a struggle. No blood smell of cleaning products none of telltale signs that something sinister happened but the abandoned car itself really spoke volumes. Right it appeared. Almost as scully had stopped. The car opened the door. Walk straight into the woods for unknown reasons but following the discovery of the car. The ouakam county sheriff's office launched a massive search and rescue effort. I mean they're thinking he has to be out here somewhere. Right through were vigilant. Thirty foot searches aerial. Search by helicopter and search dogs were utilized as well. The even had divers searching for evidence of coach scully in lake sandwich itself something. The searchers were keeping an eye out for was blue backpack. Which is something. He apparently always had with him and something that was not found in his abandoned car. Running parallel with the ground. Search for code. Scully was the investigation. Jeremy scully himself. The man the police wanted to know everything about him. Was it possible that something was going on but coach skelly. Investigators spoke to colleagues who had been with him in the days leading up to his disappearance and no one had anything to report in terms of code. Scully acting any way but ordinary was it possible. That really could've gone on some sort of impromptu hike is that's something that he do. You know was a lot of hiking in this area where the car was discovered. So was it possible that he stopped for a hike and then maybe hurt himself in a way that left him unable to return to his car and unable to flag. Someone down for help. it's a near weekly occurrence. That hikers or climbers go missing in the cascade mountain range so this is kind of like where people's heads went first but after speaking to those close to coach scully at the general consensus was a resounding no. He wasn't a guy who had blow off work for a hike was the kind of guy who would be a good samaritan and pull over if somebody was stranded on the side of the road. So this fueled more speculation. Did coach scully pullover to help somebody. And was he injured in the process either accidentally or purposefully somebody with sinister intentions or maybe there had been an exchange that started amicably and escalated so the speculation continued and people at a loss as to where he could be or what could have happened and then three days. Later on april twenty-seventh there was a break. In the case. When whispers at a body had been found nearly sammamish blew through the ferndale community. Hikers discovered the remains on blanchard mountain approximately eight miles from where they discovered. Scully's car in the body was found. Just a few hundred yards from a gravel road about a mile from a popular overlook spot near the body was discarded plastic tarp which had actually caught the attention of these hikers. Who said they wouldn't have noticed the body otherwise. The hiker reported their discovery to wadham county. Deputy who actually happened to be in the area searching for coach scully while the assumption here is that the remains didn't fact belong to jeremy scully. They didn't confirm that right away. They had to make conclusive determination in a visual. Id for whatever reason at this point was not possible but there was one thing that was clear to them. This was a homicide victim had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The remains were ultimately identified as scully's and they had to use fingerprints his autopsy revealed that a most probably died from a gunshot wound to the head. And once this info hit the news there was a palpable shock. The community was crushed and horrified. His students his colleagues his friends his family. Everyone was dumbfounded. About how and why. This all american guy ended up murdered in the woods by lake sammamish. Who would do this. And why would they do this. Following her freshman year at ferndale high school megan's family had moved out of state to china but news of coach scully's death made it there too. I remember super randomly. My mom came home from work and was like do you know come to schooling and i was like like my track coach. Who's my pull coach. And she goes well he he died. I thought it was a medical condition. Thought it was really odd because he was a pretty healthy guy. So i made the assume that was an accident. I didn't really know. And it was later on. When i found out that he had been killed because i was super confused like he was such a nice optimistic. Happy guy to be around like who would want to kill him. After the identification of jeremy scully's body the investigators mobilized this was their first homicide investigation of the year and a lot of people were demanding answers. Scully's girlfriend robin spoke publicly saying that she wouldn't rest until their questions were answered and justice was served. She said quote. I'm still trying to figure out how i'm going to get through just the next few days not to mention the rest of my life. I've done a lot of crying trying to make deals with god. Investigators took all available investigative. Avenues they search for evidence connected to the murder in the woods around his body which ultimately led them determine that they believe coach. Scully had been shot and killed there in the woods. In broad daylight. Meanwhile detectives were now taking a deep dive into coach. Scully's personal life. It's here they start to make progress in fact. The police publicly released some information about glaring discovery. They had made believe that there was a reason. The police spoke to the media about this. And also a very clear reason why the media perpetuated it and clung to it so it turns out the coach. Jeremy scully was involved in the swinger lifestyle. He was a member of the adult web site. Adult friend finder dot com so adult friend. Finder dot com was billed as the world's largest sex and swinger personal community with about hundred and ninety thousand members in washington state alone so on the site members would connect to those engaged. In the swinger lifestyle. Be would meet one another. They would invite to other to parties. So the idea here is if the police went public with this information hoping for tips wondering if scully's connection to this lifestyle could be behind his murder in the media really clung to it for obvious reasons because this is click bait. It's very salacious..

"Today's case takes us back to april. Twenty fourth of two thousand eight bleeding love by liana. Lewis was the top song on the billboard chart and movies like mama forgetting sarah marshall and prom night where in theaters and the case takes us to the pacific northwest. Ferndale washington to be exact. And we're going to let our first degree meghan pink. The picture of this idea like place. I was actually born in bellingham. And i was raised in ferndale so from basically the time that i was a baby until i was fifteen i grew up in ferndale and this perfect little small rural town right in the exact heart of the north west corner washington. Have you heard of bellingham which i know that comes up and true crime a lot. It's just north of bellingham. And it's just south of the canadian border and it's right up against the water you've got the mountains the forests you've got beautiful lakes. It's just kind of this perfect. Little farm town and within the city of ferndale is ferndale highschool so my freshman year of high school was in two thousand five. And that's when i started at ferndale. High school i played soccer in the fall. And then i remember all the counselors and stuff like you have to do a spring sport. You have to have that on your resume for college. So i felt like i had to do track and field just because everyone else was doing it and i had no desire to do it. I'm not gonna sit here and run around a track like running but the first day that you show up for track they have you go around to each of the different disciplines track and you can kind of try it out and i remember going around and all these coaches were like super competitive and they screening at people like hurry up and i was like i have. I don't wanna do that. And i finally got her to pull which had never crossed my mind that that's where coach was training and he was just so chill and so happy and was like. Hey nice to meet ya you know. This is what we do. He has some of the juniors and seniors demonstrate stuff. And i just remember thinking. Like i'm gonna do this because this guy is really cool and chill and i don't have to like run my butt off all day long so i decided to do pole vault basically that day. 'cause i was like you super nice. He's super chill. Everyone in that poll group was just really fun to be around. And i'm like that kind of atmosphere thirty eight year old. Jeremy scully was the pole. Vault coach and megan immediately liked him and she's not the only one. He was an extremely popular coach with the kids and his colleagues as well and according to the seattle times quote. Jeremy scully was a kind of coach would recite from memory. The height of each of his students cleared and various pole vaulting competitions and he knew all of their best ever flights over the bar so this means germany love the sport. He really cared about students and he loved to teach. I know that he had trained in pole vault in college at the university of oregon and he was also instructing at western washington university which is down in bellingham that he was teaching poll so we had a few people on the high school team that were like super competitive with pole vault and he was very invested in like trying to help them and get them to be their best but at the same time like the younger freshman she was just very invested in like having you welcome in a part of the sport he was so happy like every day. I mean has an awful they at school and then i'd have to stay for track and he was just really cool about everything and he'd ask you about your day and you know there were a few days. If you just weren't into doing anything. He was fine hanging out at the days that you actually wanted to work on stuff. She was super encouraging. I know that he really wanted. Not only you could be a good athlete but he wanted you to do well in school to that freshman year. That was like my favorite part of the year was after school. Track practice. 'cause it was just such a nice little community bubble and i had no idea what was going on in his personal life. He was just really nice carrying some guy and great example in my opinion great example of what we should aspire to be. It's common for students to have no idea what's going on in the lives of their teacher in fact when i was talking to megan joked about this we think of them as these subhuman people now of course as an adult who has friends. I have friends who are teachers. Were still drinking and partying and having very active social. Lives and i see that. It's really a facade that teachers put up for the kids. They are teaching while. Here's a little more about jeremy. Scott he did have a life. He had a girlfriend of three years named robin. Gold's be who. He actually met on a dating website for their relationship. Move forward in. He and robin liked to go scuba diving. Whitewater rafting in the even went paragliding. Even though scully was afraid of heights he had lots of friends. He was originally from pasadena. California and by the spring of two thousand eight beyond coaching pole vault at the high school coach skelly was also coaching at western washington university. So it's safe to say that a great deal of his life was dedicated to this passion of has on the afternoon of april. Twenty four the final bell of the day was sounded and students made their way to their after school activities which included track and field practice but his practice started. Someone was noticeably. Absent coat scully. He hadn't arrived yet and this was very odd because days prior he told his colleague and philo coach tagger not only that he intended to be there as per usual but he also said he was going to get there early at two fifteen to help out with a few things so now not only was co scali not early. He was essentially a no show. I don't remember him ever not being there. He was there every day he was at every practice he was at every event he was at every away game every home game. I mean he was and he was only too early to like. We'd walk out and he was like ready to go at all the equipment ready to go. He was like clockwork so per megan and per his colleagues coach. Scully was not the type to simply just not show up for practice. Hit never missed a practice before and he would definitely never missed one without letting somebody know what was going on especially after confirming that he'd be there the day before but practice mood forward and when coach school is still hadn't shown up by the end. Coach ted ganger was alarmed and after practice at the high school coach. Scully was also supposed to help another coach of the university which he didn't make it to either. Once athletic director at the high school heard that coach. Sculley didn't show up to practice. He was so worried that he ended up calling the police to request a welfare check on him so when the police went to coach scully's apartment. It was empty and they ultimately made contact with his girlfriend. Robin so what robbins was interesting. So apparently scully had told her that that morning he was going to have friends of his who had asked him to come over and help him with some work on his roof. And that friend's name was ken. Mcbride so scully. Left his house at eight forty ish that morning so the police contacted ken mcbride and when they spoke to him he said. That scully told ken that he'd be there around ten. Am when ten am came and went. He was a no show. Ken figured he found something else to do that day. So coach scully was missing in the police at this point. Decide to search the route between where scully lived and where his friends mcbride's lived. He's got ferndale and then south of ferndale is telling him in south of bellingham alger. But it's probably only forty five minute drive on that day. Searchers traveled on interstate five and near the lake sammamish area and for your die hard true crime fans out there if lake..

Recap: Trump's NBC Town Hall And Biden's ABC Town Hall

"Town halls. Last night, ABC News George Stephanopoulos posting Joe Biden, the former vice president of the United States, now the Democrat nominee for president, Donald Trump. Meanwhile, the president of the United States was on NBC with Savannah Guthrie. Yes, There was no debate last night. Yes, it was cancelled by the debate commission. Yes, Steve Scully, the guy who was supposed to moderate the debate. It turns out, he lied about being hacked on his Twitter account. So his life isn't going too well right now, but we still got a debate. Savannah, Guthrie and President Trump were debating one another for almost the entire town hall. They were just cats and dogs all over each other the entire time. Very little time for voters toe get a chance to question the president of the United States. Although there was a funny moment. 27 listen to this woman. She's a Biden lead leaning Supporter, writes that she's leaning towards Joe Biden. Her name is Paulette Dale. And here's what she had to say the moment she had a chance to question the president of the United States question. Evening, Mr President, I have to say you have a great smile. The guy's hands. You're so handsome when you smile. Thanks. Mom was totally fan Girling. She was She was like Backstreet Boys, just like boy banding all over again, you know I don't think she's voting for Biden. I just have this hunch again. There's another producer who I think lost a jobless. There's a lot of unemployment to based on the town hall last night. It's still funny. And by the way she was being attacked, of course, like because everything is the next potential crisis. Everything's all out war. You're never allowed. Teo. You know, you give comfort to the enemy. So just You have a great smile. You should smile more. I love your smile and being destroyed for that. Well, that's a big thing on the left. You don't tell her where I'm tired of being constantly told that I should smile more because you never tell menace smile more that That's a thing for the For the women on the left. Yeah, well, maybe she was two birds. One stone She got in there last night, and it made it Was added a couple of men to the smile equation, adding President Trump to it. Oh, and last night. Also Joe Biden remember facing off against Stephanopoulos. This was a tough one cut 40. You know? Finally, Finally we get to the issue of Hunter Biden in a national setting. Here's that moment last night. That's right now it didn't come up at all. We've sighted and Garfunkel were there. How did I miss this? Nobody. Simon Garfunkel in the entire 90 minutes. 30 different question. Town Hall. Joe Biden doesn't get a single one about the newly emerging evidence that he appears tohave corrupted American foreign policy to the benefit of his family's financial interests. Not a single question about this last night, not a surprise. But ABC. Throws in with on overwhelming effort by the media and the big tech companies to suppress an important story that the New York Post has been breaking every single day for the last couple days. No, it was. It was just so amazing. And I'm glad that I watched them separately. Just because for me, I don't have the ability to just pay attention. Both. I'm afraid, miss something. So, Watson separately, I will say, though. A job in town hall. I just started playing a game on my phone because they would ask a question. And Joe Biden would start answering the question. And then he would meander through a whole bunch of different topics. Everything that was going on in his head. He would meander all over the place. I was waiting for the big giant, you know, Biden Gaff which wasn't there didn't happen. I'm just gonna float this and I could be 100% wrong. So this is just a thought that has gone through my head last night. He He was just talking so much. I thought somebody put him on Ritalin. He was just just going and go. He was taking like Barack Obama length to answer a question. Yeah, they say that he stayed for 30 minutes after the town hall and kept answering questions. He kept talking forever. ABC never heard that footage released it by the way they should. If he have cameras and a microphone on him. We should see the footage of his Q and a with the voters after that thing was done last night released Joe Biden. I do want to get to this. This. He was asked about court packing last night. Cut 45 with George Stephanopoulos. Here is here is his new answer on court packing. How about that question of expanding the court hears what you said exactly one year ago tonight at a Democratic debate, he said, I would not get into court packing. I would not packed the court. That's not what you're saying Now is the nomination of Judge Barrett Reason enough to rethink your position. What is the nomination and what I wanted to do? George? You know if I had answered the question directly, then all the focus is beyond what's Biden going to do? If he wins instead of on? Is it appropriate? What is going on now? And it should stay. This is the thing that the president loves to do always take our eye off the ball. What's his state? One of these, Peter suggested is and there's a number of constitutional scholars have suggested as well that there are at least 45 options that are available to determine whether or not you could change the way in which the court lifetime appointment takes place. Consistent, arguably. With the Constitution. I have not been a fan of court packing because I think it just generates what will happen every whoever wins. It just keeps moving in a way that is inconsistent with what is going to be manageable. So you're still not a fan, but I'm not a fan of Don't say it depends on how this turns out. Howie wins but how it's handled how it's handled. There's a hostage crisis. You don't play by my rules on packing the court how it's handled. What does that mean? We know how it's going to be handled. There's a vote on the 22nd. She's going to get confirmed me how it's going to be handled. He? That is about the clearest indication he's given yet that he intends to pack the court. Yeah, he said last night he is open to packing the United States Supreme Court. And it depends on how it's handled. He's got the gun to our heads, he says. Go ahead. You want me to pack the court approve any Cockney? Barrett put her on the Supreme Court. I'll do it. That's the answer he gave in his own marble mouth, Joe Biden Way.

C-SPAN suspends Scully after he admits to lie about hack

"So last night fence we had the two competing town halls and Joe Biden got a two hour town hall. President Trump got a 40 minute town hall because the 1st 20 minutes of his town hall were spent arguing with Savannah Guthrie, who thought she was there to debate the president. But what last night was supposed to be was supposed to be nice to be a town hall with both candidates on the same stage, which could have happened last night and should have happened last night. But that was a goat rodeo. And so it didn't happen last night, thanks to the council on the presidential debates. S so instead, we have the two competing town halls. Now. C Span's Steve Sculley was supposed to be moderating that town. Holly's has been one of the moderators of the town hall That was supposed to happen last night. And the whole thing fell apart and part of this whole thing falling apart. You know the president was was the president, you know? Could he be there without being a super spreader they were calling on Biden's campaign, you know, apparently didn't want in there. They only wanted him there. If he was encased in like the boy in the plastic bubble like John Travolta, you know all these ridiculousness, but Steve's going one of getting caught up in this Because President Trump criticized Steve Scully as a never Trumper And Scully tweets at Scaramucci Anthony Scaramucci build Trump aide Should Scaramucci Should I respond to Trump? And everybody is thinking. Oh, he meant his put this editor a D. M. He meant to message right scare a Scaramucci directly, but instead he tweeted it out. And that, of course, caught everyone's attention. So in response to that, Scully says, My Twitter account was hacked, and we all laughed at it because it was like the third time. He said that his Twitter account has been hacked. And every time it happens, his Twitter account goes away. And then it comes back once the controversial wait. I'm sorry. There were multiple times that he did that. Yeah, there was more than what there was more that I have. No, it's okay. I didn't. I just didn't realize that okay? Yeah, he's done a multiple times hilarious even worse. Yeah, so so his account goes away, and then it comes back. So that's why I think a lot of people were a little little suspicious about him, saying that his account was hacked yet again. Well, turns out he could not keep up the lie, and he has admitted that his Twitter account was not hacked, he said. I falsely claim that my Twitter account had been hacked. So he has now been suspended as the political editor Force C span after he admitted that his Twitter feed was hacked. And you know what part of me feels like. Okay, good for him. He admitted it. How many of these people especially on the left will ride that denial down into the grand and into their graves? Because they say, Hey, it worked for joy Reid. So it'll work for me and what is left. Do they just deny and double down on denying double down and then they dare you to continue to come after them and most on the right, Just go OK and they walk away, but that didn't work for Steve

The relationship between Justice Scalia and RBG

"Lies in state in the Capitol today, the first woman ever given that honor in the first Supreme Court justice since William Howard Taft and he'd also been the president. Justice. Ginsburg's casket was at the court for two days for people to pay their respects, including President Trump, and the first lady booed when they got there. The president has had nice things to say about Justice Ginsburg since her death, you may agree. You may not disagree with her, but he was an inspiration to a tremendous number of people. I say all Americans, and now, he says, it's his job to fill that seat on the court. I think it's very important that we have nine justices. And I think the system is going to go very quickly. The president plans to announce his nominee tomorrow. Joe Biden, and a lot of other Democrats say he should fill that seat if he wins the election in light of Republicans blocking President Obama from filling a seat in an election year, the seat President Obama would have filled incident. Scalia's went to Neil Gorsuch instead of Merrick Garland. For all the fighting. There's been over Justices Scalia and Ginsburg in life. They were very good friends. People always find it surprising that they were such good friends, Christopher Scully's the Eighth of Incident. Scalia's nine Children. There's a new collection published of his father's writing called The Essential Scalia. Their friendship went back. Really to the early eighties, when they were judges together on the D C circuit Court of Appeals, which is kind of like the second most important court in the country, and they they had a good working relationship that which really started back then they would help each other revised their drafts and their opinions. Apparently, the other judges on that court really didn't like getting advice about their writing and how to improve the clarity of what they're writing in the force of their arguments. But Justice Ginsburg liked getting and receiving that kind of advice, and so did my dad, and they formed what he called a mutual improvement society during their time on the court there. And And they had other things in common. They were they had similar backgrounds and that they were both New Yorkers grew up in New York around the same time, different boroughs but around the same time and shared a love of opera. Good wine eating good food. Both of their thousands were excellent cooks. Marty Ginsburg, in particular, is kind of a legendary cook, who would put together wonderful meals every New Year's Eve and they would celebrate New Year's Every every year is well. So you know, despite all their differences, and all the many things they disagreed about, including a number of opinions in this collection. They had a wonderful friendship were able to kind of focus on the things they had in common. Your dad in Justice Ginsburg, I don't know the statistics on how often they concurred or dissented on cases. But I imagine that they disagreed. Maybe as much as any two Recent justices have my right. Yeah, I think that that sounds right. I don't know the statistics, either. I think people would be surprised by how often they agreed with each other. But on the real hot button cultural cases, they often disagreed one of her most important, most famous opinions. Was Virginia Military Institute case from the mid nineties. And my My father wrote a dissent to that case, which is in this collection, the essentials, Scalia and it was hey actually gave her the draft of that descent a little bit earlier than one usually does just so that she would have more time to kind of Deal with it and grapple grapple with his arguments. And and, yeah, some of his most staying the sense we're in response to opinions. She didn't necessarily right but but joined, And I think that's probably true. Vice versa. Tell us very about the big bouquet of roses she got from him. My dad would get her roses for her birthday and I guess the Ah, I think the last time he did that. So the year before he died, one of the editors of the Essential Scalia Judge Jeffrey Sutton was visiting my father in chambers on on Justice Ginsburg's birthday. And he saw that my dad had two dozen roses for Justice Ginsburg and Judge Sutton started teasing Dad saying, You know, I haven't even gotten my wife two dozen roses over the course of our entire marriage. Why would you do this? And besides, When was the last time she cited with you on a really important 54 decision? You know, he's poking fun, You know, not not really being serious, but My dad gave a serious answer, which was some things are more important than votes. As I think I just kind of a great encapsulation of their of their relationship of their friendship they had they had Very different opinions of politics and of their jobs as a zoo judges and of what laws, men and with the Constitution, man. But, uh, how they voted wasn't the biggest factor in their relationship. It wasn't that those opinions didn't matter. And it wasn't that they compromised their beliefs for each other. But they didn't let those very strongly held beliefs undermine their very deep friendship collection of Supreme Court. Justice Antonin Scalia is writing sort of like a greatest hits album. It's opinions and other writing about the law and the Constitution again called the Essential Scalia. This is really just a collection of his greatest Legal writings, opinions, speeches, essays and they collected together give a really good sense of white. Exactly. He was such a significant Supreme Court justice on it. They're having in one collection really makes it tangible for anybody understand that we'll just as a legal reference work. You've got to think it's going to end up being bought by or four A lot of lawyers and judges know absolutely in law students. I hope you know that he he wrote. Clearly, he wrote, Hey, had so many memorable phrases and his opinions. His logic was so strong and convincing that people just kind of they often went to his opinions first. And so it's good for people to kind of have that as a resource to keep going to those opinions. Even you know, even after His passing is also besides the legal community. It's also like you said. It's very readable, even for non lawyers for just a general interest audience who might, but he was just simply a very, very good writer. Yeah, it's exactly right. He hey, wrote. For? I guess we would now call it out of transparency. You know, Even when he was writing Supreme court opinions, he understood that they should be understood themselves by everyday citizens, not just legal eagles and people with legal degrees. He kind of a recurring theme of his opinions. Is that people should know what the court courts are doing and people that the court should not usurp power that properly belongs to the people. And I think that kind of reverence for the Democratic order is is kind of manifest in his in the clarity of his writing a lot of times if he had a vote, a personal vote on how a case would turn out it may or may not a lot of times did a line with how he ruled, But sometimes it probably wouldn't have right. Yeah, I think that's true. And that's especially true in one example is when he sided with the majority in a flag burning case. The majority ruled that, um, it was constitutional sorry from burning the flag was constitutionally protected speech under the First Amendment so prohibiting that in the state law was unconstitutional. My father often explained that he did not like Three idea of flag burning. If he were a king, he would ban it. But clearly to him falls under the protection of the protection of the First Amendment, and a lot of conservatives to this day do not like that opinion. My father thought the Constitution was clear about that. There are many examples in this collection, the essential Scalia of instances in which he stands up for the rights of the accused defendant's rights. There's a famous case in here where search and seizure cases as well there a couple of those in here where he just thought, you know the police do not have authority, for example, to use Scans of houses, Tio identify Marilou who was growing marijuana without that was an illegal search examples like that s so if he could just pass a law That was one thing, but actually sorry, there couldn't be even be lost for that because they so clearly violated the Constitution, even though obviously he wouldn't have approved of those particular actions. Sure. Hey, was also notice the talker during oral arguments. He has asked a lot of questions and clearly sometimes, though, they weren't really questions. They were just arguments he was making to his fellow justices. Do you think he went into most cases with his mind made up based on the briefs, and the president is a bad thing, but not usually the case. I think that the justices, you know, I can't say for certain, but my hunch is that they often have to go in with a pretty good idea, but I think for the most part, they do ask questions, not just Not just to be heard or not just to make arguments, but because they want to really engage with the arguments that the lawyers are making in the forward to this collection, Justice Kegan first of all, very happy that she agreed to write this beautiful forward, But she she says that she says just that, you know, Dad would ask these questions because he loved argument and kind of loved mixing it up. It wasn't just kind of wasn't just for show though he did. I think you're right. He was very kind of an engaging speaker and There was some study years ago that that found he was. He was the funniest justice by the standards of he drew the most laughter from the courtroom during oral arguments, which obviously isn't the most important thing to do, but just shows how much he he enjoyed that process that love for debate. Did it? Was it a two way street was? Was he persuadable? Absolutely. That's something justice Kagan mentions in her forward. She doesn't say when she ever changed his mind, but says They change each other's minds at times. Well, Christopher Scalia, It was great to talk, Teo, The book is called The Essential Scalia on the Constitution, the courts and the rule of law. Chris Scalia. Really good to talk to you. Thanks so much, Thanks so much appreciate your time.

"So be warrant. So Jonathan win was the first time you saw deep end. And what did you think license in nineteen ninety? Nine. So nearly twenty years ago, it made a big impression on me. I saw the lead film festival as part of a season Scully mosque's films. I didn't really know anything about Scully Muskie prior to this. And this was the film ready that made the biggest impact. Little proof of that impact. I remember after I'd seen it, I was talking to the festival ticket seller and she had missed the end of the film. Remember her asking me while happened at the end. I went into this very long, very enthusiastic description of basically all the sort of final scenes of the movie. It was so vivid in my head that I went overboard in describing, probably I will do that today and I think really what impacted on me the most at the time, I think defensive, Hugh. I think the sort of an expected -ness of the ending incredible dog ending. And I think that's also as sort of spontaneity to the film to it really just takes you along with it. There is this sort of thrilling quality has. It feels quite offhand feels like the episodes just being conjured out to nowhere. But I think the more I've seen the film since then, I think I've come to appreciate the Olso for the sense of control that it has. I think there is a sense of structure Scully Muskie. I think very cleverly weaves these little premanent and little motifs through the film. So the ending is actually not as surprising as it might seem. I think he's weeding little clues really wrong. So I, I think really the more I saw the more impressed I was by that sort of visual language that has by the sense of yes of structure in control as well as the spontaneity. How about you Alicia? Well, I had actually never seen it until just this week. It was very me that I had heard a lot about, particularly anytime I read about skull mosque's work because it was his most famous film, but one that's actually quite hot to find. So to watch this movie, I actually had to buy the Davide from done, get it shipped over to me, and I'm so glad that I got to see it. It's very that feels both dream lag and state in dock reality. It's very unsettling. I feel like I need to watch it again, having seen at just wants through to go back in notice all the little Murray tapes that laid up to that big ending when I first saw it, I wasn't sure if I liked that ending, not, but it really sits with you, and it makes us think about it a lot and doesn't go away very easily. It's a very unique coming of age story, one that you don't often see and overall, I was really impress. I buy it. It's also interesting to have it set in the world of public box because that's something that I think is particularly English, but we also had a stray Leah, but tickly around the beaches, and I just love how it was this little microcosm..

"scully." Discussed on Pick The Mind

"Peter Scully, born January thirteenth, nineteen sixty three is an Australian pedophile who is on trial in July two thousand seventeen in the Philippines for numerous crimes against children, including the production of sadistic child, pornography, torture, rape, and murder. Yeah, he's kind of fucked up, dude, welcome all of you knowledge noggins to absorb four as we pick the sadistic brain of a man who deserves absolutely nothing more than death that self. I'm your host, Chet banks, and you are tuning in to pick the mind, pay them. Mine. This episode might get a little disturbing for some, so be wary as going to get into his earlier life, but I wasn't able to find much information about that, but I guess it doesn't really matter because the guy was genuine piece of shit. So let's just get into it from a remote corner of the Philippines Scully operate in tros business, creating live videos on the dark web child-sex-abuse, which he would market globally to other sadistic pedophile 's. He worked on the dark web on what they would call the red room. Where were these horrors would take place if you have never been to the dark web? I suggest you don't even try because there's some, there's some terrible shit. Seriously. There's some terrible shitter there's some evil. She goes on there like people who pay to watch other people get murdered on livestream what the fuck. I guess they get their rocks off watching that shit, and that's just pure evil in those people need to fucking die because that's disgusting. Back in two thousand eleven Scully arrived in Manila. He was fleeing from Victorian fraud and deception offenses over. A property scheme that was over two million dollars from twenty investors in a real estate scam. Later Scully reportedly brought his girlfriend a teenage Malaysian girl named league where he would pimp her out as an escort to participate in suburban sex parties. Scully went to the Philippines where he began the pedophile ring and pay per view videos on the dark web. One of the victims who was videoed and sold over the internet was a five year old girl who was hung upside down while Scully and two accomplices raped and tortured her what the fuck is wrong with these people. One girl had a elite candle side of crotch. His accomplices Alvarez and Margallo also abused children in school. His videos. What is wrong with people on the dark web. One instance involved two cousins aged nine and twelve, which SCO is former child. Prostitute. Cokes two girls back to SCO, is home with the promise of food were then forced form sex acts on each other, which was photographed and videoed cause he's fucking pervert. They were also sexually abused by Scully. The girls were kept chained in dog collars and after attempting to escape the two girls were forced to do two holes which were told would be their their own graves, but Alvarez took pity on the two girls and let them escape. The two cousins went straight to the police. Our s was arrested while Scully went on the run. Yeah, run bitch, runny scared, motherfucker, daisies destruction. This is a video that was the title of the most heinous video that was filmed by Scully. It was so extreme. Most people thought it was just an urban legend. SCO sold days of. -struction to his clients for ten thousand dollars in two thousand twelve. If features the torture and brutal rape of a number of girls by scully's hand to three girls were released lisera age, twelve, Cindy, age, eleven, and daisy, who was only eighteen fucking months old. That is so messed up eighteen months old. SCO had his former prostitute age nineteen. Take part in Daisy's destruction as the mistress and mental ruin of daisy as she was still learn how to please her mistress. K. Scully, put the video out under his no limits production company selling it to other pedophile via the dark web. One of skulls biggest purveyors of child pornography. Matthew ram acquired the video to attract more viewers to his network of websites. Matthew was to apprehend age twenty two. He was twenty two years old and he's doing that shit. Bam. He had a fucked up life. Mother's childhood must have really been shit while the thirties search for Scully in the Philippines, investigators manage to uncover the face of the three primary victims of days destruction. Lizzy was found alive as was daisy, but her treatment from the hands of Scully will so vicious that she add lasting physical injuries on her on her body and face and wherever else. But eleven year old. SUNY was murdered by Scully after continuous rape torture, and she was strangled a death with a rope and put her in her grave that she had dug herself. And yeah, it was all videotaped. Wish they could just shut the dark web down. I don't know if he could, but on February twentieth two thousand fifteen Scully was gradually tracked down in in the Philippines was finally wrested. He had six warrants for his arrest for the abduction and rape of the two cousins sick. Fuck Scully faced seventy five charges and was on trial with others who assisted in the production of his pornography, including four men. His homeys homeboys Christian rouse Ila penal Al Jia and a Brazilian doctor. Haniel Oliviera. He was denounced as guilty will fuck better. Be denounced guilty. I don't see how you could find him not guilty. Some judges like he's it's okay. That stuff happens. Just give him another chance in October two thousand fifteen, a fire severely damaged. The evidence room which contained SCO is computer logs. Videos destroying the key evidence burn motherfucker, burn some beliefs. Scola had bribed a local police officer because corruption in the Philippines is quite high quite high. Indeed, Margaret AKU an expert child abuse investigator said, this was the worst case. She had ever seen, and I agree it's the worst case I've ever heard of. I don't really know of any child abuse cases, but British can't get much worse than this. So there was an interview with Scully as the sixty minutes interview. He said, if you things, I'm just gonna. Quote him a little bit. Goes matters because nothing he says going to justify anything he did. So I did by fucking matter bro. Well, apparently he had a journal you kept in that. He claimed could explain the reasoning behind his actions in he said, only a psychiatrist could determine that Scully was evasive when asked his questions like he said stuff like, are we done here? It seems like we're going around in circles. The interviewer would ask him or questions. And all he would say is asked psychiatrists that question. This guy was clearly mental in his brain. He has a brain that's fucked up, not suitable for society, not
