"Welcome to April 13th, 2023 in the national day calendar. Today we celebrate our presidential Jack of all trades and nerdy wordplay. Today we're celebrating an archeologist and architect of foodie and a bibliophile, and they're all the same person. Our third president, Thomas Jefferson, was not just the primary author of the Declaration of Independence, he was also immensely curious about our world. As an archeologist, he had the bones of a Mastodon sent to him while president, as an architect, he not only designed his home Monticello, but also the Virginia state capitol. As a book lover, he gave his library of over 6500 books to the U.S. after the British destroyed the Library of Congress during the war of 1812, and as a foodie, he's responsible for the popularity of foods such as Mac and cheese and ice cream on national Thomas Jefferson day, celebrate a president with panache. The game of Scrabble was invented during The Great Depression by an out of work architect. For anyone who grew up on Mars, Scrabble is played with two to four players who score points by forming words from individual letter tiles on a game board marked with a 15 by 15 grid. Since its humble beginnings, Scrabble is now played in 120 countries in 29 different languages. It was also featured as a television game show in the 1980s. The highest scoring word ever recorded in a Scrabble tournament earned a whopping 392 points. The word was spelled. Pronounced physiques, which is a type of oriole. On national Scrabble day, challenge someone you know to the classic board game or play online to bring out your inner word nerdiness. Are you good at this game? I have an inner word. I knew that. A man of severe. I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we celebrate every day. What do I get for the?

"Out. The man, the myth, the legend, the made up name, Joe Scrabble. Hell yeah. Congratulations. Can't wait to see what you're doing next, but obviously thank you for all the work that you've done at IGN for so long. We have covered his new stories on this show for years since the beginning. So thank you for all of that. Yeah, Joe Scrabble is definitely one of those games that I think kind of funny games daily sort of has a mythos at this point, right? There's a meta to kind of funny games. Whether it be the bits, the recurring jokes, the and even the names that pop up when you're citing an article, right? And when I think of names, you know, I think of the Rebecca valentines of the world. I think of that Jordan Midler. Andy Robinson's of the world. I think there are so many names that pop up. And Joe Scrabble is for sure, has been one of them. For even when I was listening to the show as a fan, anytime Greg would make the joke. I made up name from IGN, Joe Scrabble. That's something that is part of the kind of funny kind of funny games daily mythos. And so salute to you, Joe Scrabble. It's been pleasure reading your articles and hearing people read your articles and good luck to whatever your next endeavor is. Yeah, he's a great dude. I have worked with him, obviously he was IGN UK, so we only got to interact a few times at events like gamescom and E three. I threw up Devon interview he did back in 2018 with my friend Pedro devs and stuff like that and I remember help doing production on that. He's great. He's fun. I'm excited to see what he does next because yeah, he was doing killer stuff over at IGN UK. And he will be missed over there. And yeah, hell yeah. We love you. We love you, Jo. But where Joe's going next? I mess it up. And you're there. It was almost there. It was almost there. We don't know where he's going next. All right, but hopefully figuring out where he's going is so far. So far away. I'm sorry, guys. I really let you down today. If I want to tell you what's going out on the bottom ground shop today, I'll tell you to look toward the official list of upcoming software across each and every platform. As listed by the kind of funny games daily show hosts each and every weekday. Yeah. There we go. Out today. Bayonetta three on the switch. Wow. It's the day of the witch. It is the day of the witch they watch. Call of Duty Modern Warfare two. It's coming out of PS5, Xbox Series X and S PlayStation 4 Xbox One and PC. We got Resident Evil reverse. Oh my God. Can you believe it? I can't believe it. Is this real? Someone confirmed. Yeah, I need to go confirm. I just don't believe it. I've seen people downloading reverse or are you, can I call it reverse? I've seen people down will come for you. I've seen people downloading this video game on Twitter. So I believe it is in fact real. Wow. Well, Resident Evil Village coming to switch and Mac and Resident Evil Village, winter's expansion, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, all the consoles. Factorio on switch. Dungeon munchies on PS4 and VS 5. Hell yeah. Sharon should staircase everything and ace angler fishing spirits on switch. Let's see what else we got for you here. Some reader mail cozy bear says bayonetta three is out today. While it remains to be seen whether the Umbra which is third out improves a bestseller, that hasn't stopped by them games from continuing the series. What would you like to see come next from the world of bayonetta? I don't have an answer for this because I'm not, I am not part of the core bayonetta fanbase yet. I'm still making my way through bayonetta three. And I'm Giannis, I had no idea what the fuck is happening in this game, but I enjoy it, nonetheless. I think the cutscenes and story is batshit and that's part of what I like from it. But because of that, I couldn't tell you what I went from the future of it. I can tell you what I want for the future of platinum games though. Platinum games in a fascinating place when it comes to the way that they're talking about their own company and what they want to do because they're talking a lot about live service and games as a service and making these games that are ongoing, that last online that have updates and all this stuff. And Babylon's fall was one of their first outings with that. And Babylon's fall was terrible. One of the worst games of the year. And even coming off of that, they're still doubling down. They're like, hey, we understand Babylon's fall wasn't great. We are sorry. They apologize for it. But they then continue that statement saying, no, we're still going to make more of these. We still want to try and continue this direction. And I think it is such a bad direction for platinum games specifically. And so for what I want to see from them, I would want to see them work on more of the bayonets of the world, more of the astral chains of the world. I would love to see a national chain too on switch. I would also like to see more of the nearest of the world. Can you bring back the Yoko Taro and the team to make another game in the near series? And I'm sure that's more on Yoko than it is on Yoko Taro than it is on platinum. But I think leaning more into the things that work for platinum, which is a single player character action games with a really good combat and fun stories. I think that's the best direction. And I'm sure the problem there is maybe it doesn't make money for them the way that they wanted to. I get that and I wonder then if the solution is to go the licensed route. And it's funny because that's what they've already gone down. It hasn't worked out for them. But hit and miss, right? Yeah. And you have to remember in that era. They were doing so many IP. And stuff. But I see what you're saying, we're like, if they just focused on like two, you know, and just did that. Also, really quick, the sequel to astral chain should be called to astral two chainz.

"Change of Chancellor would undermine that stability. So I really hope and I would expect to be honest. Rishi thinking through sensibly, the economic policy of this country would want to keep Jeremy hunt in place. Every appointing hunt will mean a more minor role for two of Sinai's long-standing backers, Mel stride and Steve Barkley, who'd both been linked to the job. Now, in a meeting with backbench MPs, sinac said the Tory party now faces an existential threat and it must quote unite or die. Chaotic primary ships are support for the conservatives crater with many poles now showing labor more than 30 points clear of the Tories, but has got commentator Peter kellner says it will be interesting to see whether that night changes. How much of this was simply about this trust and with the labeling collapse back down to 10%. And to what extent is it a virgin on the Conservative Party as a whole. So well the labors lead settled down in a few days time. Encounters comments are a reminder of the uphill battle ahead for the new prime minister with the Chancellor warning last week the country will face more difficult decisions on both tax and spending. Well, two of Europe's biggest banks have reported better than expected earnings this morning, HSBC posting third quarter adjusted pre-tax profit of $6.51 billion. That's a significant bump on what analysts were expecting. UBS, meanwhile, announcing better than expected profits in the third quarter, two higher interest rates helping to offset the global economic downturn and market via the third quarter net income for UBS came in at $1.73 billion. That's also a beat on the estimate and we'll be speaking to the CEO Ralph hamers in the next hour of Bloomberg daybreak, Europe this morning. In other news, NATO is increasingly concerned that Russia could escalate its war in Ukraine as last as on the battlefield mount, Russia's defense minister is called western officials to warn them about Ukrainian plans to use a so called dirty bomb. But White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby says Russia's claim is false and worrying We just reject that allegation, it's just not true. Let me know. We have seen in the past that the Russians have on occasion blamed others for things that they were planning to do. Harvey's comments reflected by the UK and by France all three nations accusing Russia of looking for a pretext for escalation of the conflict. So those are our top stories this morning. Let's get back though to the political story here in the UK and in the end it was aroused the undramatic contest to see their successor appointed to Liz truss, Rishi sunak, the only candidate to reach the threshold of MPs needed to win the Conservative Party leadership and thus become prime minister, attention now shifting to the makeup of the new prime minister's cabinet and the planned fiscal statement next Monday. For more let's speak to our senior executive editor for government rather than mathison. Good morning to you, raz sunak has only made one short statement publicly since he won this contest talking about the need for unity and the economic challenges ahead. What should we expect from him now? And who's likely to be in his cabinet? Well, that is the key question that you would say. He would become prime minister today and then the Hogwarts really begins because we have to set up a cabinet that's going to both reward some of the people we supported him, but also bring in some of those potentially through the post there because right now what you need to do is you were saying is create a renewed atmosphere of unity after months to master infighting within the toy party. You've had boring factions really publicly going at each other. But he can't just bring in those who supported him through those post 2018 to the others. What we do know is that he's likely to be Jeremy Hansen as the chance of the checkout that's sort of a continuity moment that will probably reassure markets that we saw Jeremy hunt brought into any stabilizing in this trusses administration and certainly reversed some of her policies very quickly. So that should continue. The question is, does he allow someone like penny Morgan who is his challenger for the leadership post? Does she become perhaps foreign secretary? What does he have to teach somebody else in that position? Does he even need to think about what bar Johnson might be? In the future administration of course I used to work together until I had a spectacular falling out. So the interesting to see the lineup because there will be some disappointments from those potentially who supported him for the leadership as a result. How much will he really be able to achieve in the job though, given the state of the economy, thanks to Lea's trust and the state of the party after 12 years in power. Well, that's the big question because there is that challenge in what people do, not only given the state of the economy, the country is in process that we're seeing here in the UK by any prices the state of the budget because of course, like many countries, this is the situation in the UK is under the strength and interest rates advising. So there's that aspect of it. But also given what we've seen in parliament race and state and within the party, in particular, it doesn't have much of a living room to really do anything dramatic as we basically just have to simply unwind everything that this trust state at least perhaps the best service towards the other direction. And that's essentially for those austerity, which is also politically dangerous. But does he have to put a step so far away from the that he needs towards spending time that again would be very difficult. So it's kind of sustained either way he needs to put some guns on the board very quickly so to speak that he has very, very limited to do so. Mainly what he probably needs to do right now is successful everybody down. Within the past 8, so many times the public stocking going on and his promise again that he was reversed everything that was customized. Okay, Rosalind math and art senior executive editor for government will have to leave it there for now. We were expecting to hear from her she's seen act later this morning after he has been appointed as prime minister and will bring that to you on our UK politics program at midday today on London DAB digital radio. This is Bloomberg. Now the

"War zone or modern warfare, one back of the Xbox 360. All the original. Yeah, it's one of those where when I have, if I had more time, I feel like I would play shooters a little bit more and this seems like because college was always one that you just jump in and play, stuff like that and have fun with your Friends. I feel like that's one of the be on my list. I haven't played in so long, but that seems sick that they actually have a full on event to announce stuff. They have their own, you know, I guess what it would be awards show or something like that or really what's happening. They're all showcase. A ubisoft showcase. An E three press conference just for Call of Duty. Yeah. And that's, I mean, honestly, this seems huge just for the franchise is gone. Or how the franchise has landed today, right? Where there are so many different branches of Call of Duty. And so it's not just an event that is, hey, let's announcing Call of Duty ghosts. And here's all the feature of ghosts, right here's more than your dogs. Here's all the stuff that we have in the game. It is, no, we have a handful of things to show off and talk about. Modern warfare two, that's going to be huge. War zone two, you know, I know so many people have questions about war zone two and one that's going to look like. And so to even have just those two being your headliners, that's big, let alone, yeah, the mobile stuff, let alone having streamers come through, play the game live. I know that is very important for the cloud ID audience to know what that hands on experience is like. And then unannounced information surprises. I'm sure none of that was going to be as big as the war zone two and modern warfare two stuff. But it's still exciting, right? It's still interesting. Now, I want to take a second, right? Because somebody just joined the call, the one and only a coal leaf atoms from spawn on me, Khalifa, how's it going, man? Hi, everybody. Can you hear me? Oh yeah, we can hear you bro looks good, y'all. Sorry, I jumped by accident. Yeah. I was like, oh, shit. We got a rare to leaf in here. I'm happy to see you all though. And I loved all the work that you did during. It was fantastic. You're fantastic. It was great. Thank you. Yeah, cool. You're right evil, right? Yeah, without Eva, it was fantastic. It was my first Evo. It was brilliant. It was just everything on my bucket listed at every wanted to have happen. So it was great. I definitely need to go next year. I had to cancel my trip this year, but next year I'm going to be there with you all. Let me hang it out. I mean, look. We can finally get a whole squad to go. It was literally the best thing that has happened this year for me and it was so good to see you and vicious, rocking the stage and killing it. And I was front row watching you do your thing and it was beautiful to watch. The hype y'all brought to SF was nuts and having those kinds of matches for this Evo coming back was just redonkulous. It was one of the best things on the board. I will let you continue your conversation. I'm sorry for jumping in on your toes. You're totally good. That is incredible that that happened. But also I have one last thing. Are we competing next year? Are we getting this year? I competed this year in MCAT. Mortal Kombat? Yeah, yeah. How'd you do? I had the full Evo experience. I won, I did not go zero in three, right off the bat. I did not draw on a polls. Okay. I got a washed somebody with my fujin and immediately got washed by somebody else who's playing Jackie. Well, it's not gold. Let's go the other direction. Did you fight Mitchell saltzman at all? Did you fight Mitchell? No, we cheered each other on though, Mitchell saltzman, Jurassic rabbit, shout out to Jurassic rabbit, is as a nasty gear us and he's amazingly good. So we were cheering each other on during that stuff. That's awesome. And then I had to go see how an appointment for Street Fighter 6 and then I got DQ. So it was the entire gambit of what you could do in pools for Evo, so. It was brilliant. I had a blast. We definitely got to go. We definitely got to compete. We're going to do the next year. All right, get out of here. Go to sleep. All right, let's hop into story number 8. Splatoon three is getting a Nintendo direct this week. This is Joe Scrabble at IGN. So two and three will be getting a dedicated Nintendo direct presentation. This Wednesday, August 10th. The broadcast will be roughly 30 minutes long, and begins at 6 a.m. Pacific. Nintendo hasn't hinted at what will be inside, but you can guess at a healthy swath of new gameplay. As well as new information about the game's campaign, PVP and PVE modes. So if you're a splatoon nerd out there, boom, you got some exciting stuff. It is really excited somewhere. Jana garci is getting hyped right now. Her and Andy Cortez, I'm sure both just radiating with energy about how exciting they are for this Latino thing. It's platoon your vibe. It needs to be because okay, so I made a post to Twitter, okay? And I got chewed out for this because the Nintendo fans came at me 'cause I was like, I don't use my switch anymore. I have nothing to use my switch for. And I was like, I'm not like a big Nintendo fan. So why don't you get a switch? How dare you? And I'm like, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I didn't know that they didn't have any third party games, but I'm like venturing out into the ether of switch again to try to find some more games. I am playing xenoblade and I did look at splatoon. This have more like single player elements like it looks like it does. So I'm like the little bits I had her previously and that excites me. I'm not like big on like the multiplayer stuff, but if like the single player stuff is looking kind of good, I played the first one and I had fun but like if they have single player stuff, I would play this. Like I would have a reason to use my switch. So please stop hitting on me. I'm sorry I don't plan on Nintendo games, but this one I would try. Yeah, this is one that I'm looking forward to trying out. Mainly because Andy Cortez says that it should be my shit. And I'm not like splatoon has never really interested me. I tried out one splatoon demo a while ago. And I play well, I played for ten minutes. It wasn't enough a long enough time to form an actual opinion.

Last year they had guilty gear strive. I forget of Graham blue was them or not. I think the amount of published a correct me on that if I'm wrong. A lot of video games. They are putting out a lot of video games. And so maybe we could see Dragon Ball whatever the next thing for Dragon Ball fighters is sooner than later. You know, maybe a 2024 2025. That's just me predicting, that's not me having any insider knowledge, but man, how high would that be? I really want it. It'd be so tight. But also, before we move on, I just want to say, I hope grand blue does get that rollback. They still are on the lay. They got announced for a tour and they did not get the rollback announcement. I know all the grand players are looking over at the dbf Z players having a fantastic time of feast over there while they sit in their delay. So I hope that they shift over and say, let's drop a little bit of roll back their way. So hell yeah. "The original report came from Jason schreier at Bloomberg. I'm going to pull from Joe Scrabble at IGN just because Joe's write up is a little bit more succinct. But I do recommend if you guys want the full story with all the details, which of course we're going to break down still. Go over to Bloomberg, give Jason try the click and read through that. But to start with Jill Scrabble story, again, from IGN, GTA 6 will reportedly feature a female playable character in his campaign for the first time. Rockstar apparently plans to launch the game with a single city, but add more locations over time through updates. As part of a report on rockstar by Bloomberg, sources close to the studio discuss the new female character who will be Latina. The character reportedly be part of a pair of bank robbers in a story influenced by real-life criminals Bonnie and Clyde. The report also indicates that the launch version of GTA 6 we begin with fictionalized Miami and surrounding areas, presumably a return for Vice City, but will be updated with quote new missions in cities on a regular basis. That launch version apparently already includes more interior locations than any GTA game previously. Per the report, the game is codenamed project Americas due to its original plan to include huge territories based on North and South America. A plan that was scrapped in part to reduce crunch for employees. Sources say that the developers on the game are skeptical about predictions for a launch between April 2023 and March 2024 due to multiple changes on the team and bottlenecks in production. Some developers are even said to have quit due to a lack of progress on the game recently, developers on the game reportedly expect the game to be at least two years away and say that no firm release date has been set internally. However, much of the report focuses on progressive changes at rockstar in recent years, including a more inclusive office culture, a focus on reducing crunch, a removal of abusive managers, conversion of contractors into full-time employees, and a restructure into improved restructure, to improve working conditions. Morales said to be higher at the company as a result. And one source told rockstar or sorry, one source said rockstar was quote a boys club transformed into a real company. The report also points to a morph progressive mindset at the company in narrative terms too. Bloomberg says that a mode called cops and crooks was shelved before release following the 2020 police killing of George Floyd and has not been reconsidered for release since. The company is also focusing on making fewer jokes in GTA that punch down at marginalized groups. That's the end of IGN's article. I want to shout out Nigel for some additional tidbits, right? Some of the changes that rockstar have happened since 2018. And as a reminder, 2018 was when a lot of the a lot of talk happened around rockstar and a lot of things surfaced in terms of the work culture at rockstar and the crunch culture rockstar and all that stuff. There have been quite a few changes since 2018, including more producers to help avoid crunch, schedule changes, conversion of contractors into full-time employees, removal of abusive employees, new mental health, and leave benefits and staff is more flexible with their time. Janik Garcia, GTA 6 is the next big whale in gaming, right? The next cyberpunk, the next big game that we're all looking forward to, right? Of that scope, the next unicorn game, as Tim gettys would say, we have a lot to dig into here. I'm going to let you choose where you want to start. Maybe I feel like this is a dark place to start, but I just know that this report probably launched a thousand shit thumbnails of GTA has gone woke. Is it going to be ruined by whatever? I kind of just want to start there just to get it out of the way because I think I like the language in this kind of follow up on this report that Scrabble uses, talking about the idea of not punching down on marginalized groups. And I do think that you can have a Gritty and part satire violent, all the things that we've come to know and love from GTA. Go in there, stealing cars, killing a bunch of police officers, and then scrubbing the save so that you don't have to lose the weapons and the things that you got. That's how I spent a lot of my time in GTA. And I think you can maintain that without having some of the cringe moments of I think going back and playing some of the old GTAs. It's like, I forgot this was in here. I kind of wish this wasn't on her. I don't think it needs to be in here. So I like that idea, and I do think kind of that conversation around the cultural changes there. It reminds me a lot of, unfortunately, sometimes when you have companies that make art that is a little bit, I guess more pushing the boundaries, you can unfortunately hear a lot of times where that culture is also sort of toxic. So I like that they're kind of took a step back and assess things. And I like that this kind of comes from the people creating the game. Again, people always want to talk about letting artists do their art. And this is what they want for their product. This is what they as a team have wanted in terms of the game that they're making. And the way they go about making that game. So I kind of just wanted to start there because I know, and we've also got a million comments like that. And I'm sure that will still be a part of the conversation in a dark sector of the Internet. But I think it's important to try to be look at the full picture of what this means for both the people making the game and the game itself. Yeah. And I'm right there with you. And I think for me as somebody who is played GTA a lot growing up and sees the same things that you see in terms of you go back to certain GTAs and you hear certain jokes or certain bits and it's like, wow, this is, this is definitely mid 2000s or early 2000s in terms of tone in writing. Video games have evolved so much in the last couple of decades and the kinds of stories that we're getting in the quality of writing that we're getting nowadays. I think has superseded anything that we got that we had back in the day with where a GTA started where we're at now and even where GTA 5 was in 2013. I even look at Red Dead Redemption two and that is a game that I never fell in love with, but if I could shout out anything from Red Dead Redemption two, it would be the quality of the writing. I think there's a lot there in terms of how they drill into the characters and kind of get deep with character motivations, like how those characters express, right? The writing of it, how they portray the old west. There's so much there that is very impressive. And I think there's so much there that could evolve into you and help make a better GTA.

"Are about you by Shopify and athletic greens, but we'll tell you about that later for now. Let's begin with what is and forever will be. They're over report. It's time for some news. We have 6 stories today. Starting with our number one. Todd Howard said the words fall out 5. Janet Garcia. He did it. We're here. We've made it. 5 words are words that came out of Todd Howard's mouth. This is from Jill Scrabble at IGN. The full story really is that Todd Howard sat down with IGN did a full interview. And he has a lot to say about not a lot to say about qualifying. He has a lot to say about starfield in the future, but that's a game studio. In conversation with Ryan McCaffrey, how are followed up on a number of elements we learned about the first time we learned the first time during starfields gameplay reveal at the Xbox and Bethesda showcase last weekend. Here's a quick rundown of everything new we learned. Todd Howard has confirmed to IGN that fallout 5 will be Bethesda game studios next game after The Elder Scrolls 6, which itself will follow on from 2020 threes starfield. Quote, yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production. He said, quote, and you know we're going to be doing fallout 5 after that. So our slate's pretty full pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well. I'm at a huge amount of new information on starfield from the Xbox as the showcase, likely the most discussed detail was Todd Howard's announcement that the upcoming sci-fi RPG will include 1000 fully explorable planets. However, sorry, Howard told us more about the game's approach to procedural generation, what it offers and assured us that players can ignore them in favor of a huge amount of fully handcrafted content if they want to. I do want to shout out if you go to the IGN story for each of the tidbits that they're sharing. They have like a link for each of them where they go into detail more about what Todd Howard has to say about the 1000 fully explorable planets. Apparently this game is going to have way more handcrafted content than any other Bethesda game previously. And so go give IGN the clicks, read through the article and see what stuff pulls you in if you want to read more about it. But to continue the base article, star field's main quest is about 20% bigger than a previous with that's a game such as Skyrim and fallout four with Todd Howard saying that means it should take around 30 to 40 hours to complete. Without stepping away to do side content. Howard said the game's main story is longer than normal due to the sheer number of quests. Starfield will have four major cities for players to explore, including new Atlantis, which is the biggest, that developer Bethesda has ever made. Howard said that new Atlantis capital city of the united colonies is not just the biggest in this game, but bigger than anything Skyrim, fallout four, or any of the developers previous games. Quote, it has all the services you would expect. And you can work on your ship there. The factions touch that, Howard said. But that's also the headquarters for constellation, which is the faction that you join that is the last group of space explorers. Kind of this NASA meets Indiana Jones meets the league of extraordinary gentlemen group. Todd Howard said that starfield won't lie to fly seamlessly from space to its 1000 explorable planets, saying the feature is quote really just not that important to the player. Quote, to justify the engineering work involved. Todd Howard said starfield features a unique take on space combat and that was partly inspired by FTL and MechWarrior. And yes, you can still ships that you board. One other tidbit all add in there too, right? Talking about the procedural generation stuff. And one of the other articles that IGN put out there, Todd Howard talked about how pretty much every big Bethesda RPG has some level of procedural generation in the development of the game's world. And it seems like it's not as big of a deal that as people put out there in terms of it not feeling like an actual handcrafted thing. It seems like that's more so environment generation more than anything, but with 1000 planets, you imagine you're going to get a little bit more procedural generation than previous Bethesda stuff. But Janet Garcia. Firstly, do you have any interest in starfield? Is that your kind of game? It's not really my kind of game necessarily, but I do have interest in it. I'm definitely going to play when it comes out. And by that, I mean, I just don't have as deep of a history with games of this genre that I have with other genres, like action adventure, like platform or whatever. It's more of a handful than a lot of depth. And it's rare for me to finish them. Like I started outer worlds. And I liked it. I enjoyed it a lot. I just didn't finish it. You know, fallout four, you know, I'm playing it a bit, but I haven't finished it. I don't know if I'll finish it, but I'm having fun playing it. Yeah, with this one, it's interesting. Obviously, I mean, the no man's sky comparisons make themselves only because of like the space element and the travel and the amount of stuff, like the way there's been an emphasis on volume and you can argue that part of that is on the audience who like people always say like, oh, I'm tired of hearing about how big the game is. But that's the number one question that everyone wants to ask. And people are like, I'm tired of just being like, the big report takeaway. It's what people are interested in knowing. People want to know how I used to ask that question all the time, like whenever I, whenever it's a game of any where scope is of emphasis at all. You always ask that and people always want to hear that it's a little bit bigger. Just because I don't know, the nature of how people tend to be. It's the thing where many people play video games that many different ways, where I'm of two minds with it. First mine being that if I read this at when I was in high school when I was in college and when I had way more time to play video games, I would read this and go fuck yes. A thousand planets is longer than any other Bethesda game studio RPG prior. Hell yes, I'm going to play this game forever. And I think that's probably the bulk of people that are looking forward to a big Bethesda game, right? Like most people don't play video games like you and I Janet where we're playing so many things to have talks about the end of the year stuff, right? Or be able to review games throughout the year. And even a lot of our audience I'm sure play more game than the average game player. Where the outlier, most people, I think, look at length, look at a thousand planes, look at 60 hours and go, ah, fuck yeah, I knew that sounds awesome. Let me give my whole life to this game. That's my first mind of it. The second mind of it is the handcrafted talk, right? When you talk about a thousand planets, how much how much of that content is going to matter, how much that content is going to feel truly exciting, right? Am I going to find unique discoverable stuff? Am I going to find quests? Is it just going to be me going to whatever planet to mind whatever resources to bring back and build my ship and build my settlement? And I get scared and fearful about the, oh man, we're pushing the limits in terms of what all these plans are going to be. But you know, I do think that if that then rolls back into a gameplay loop that is, hey, this planet is cool because it has this specific resource that once you discover it, you're going to go crazy because you're dying for this resource, right? Whatever made up resource that goes on in the solar system that they're going to talk about. You get there and you're like, oh, look for this planet forever. Let's fucking go. I do think that that stuff can be exciting, but I think it is, it is different from Bethesda games previous, which is where I understand a lot of the apprehension that comes with that. I think too, the apprehension is tied to the most recent iterations of the catalog, which haven't blown people away necessarily. So this is definitely like, there's a lot of pressure. I mean, I think there's always a lot of pressure, but I think right now there's definitely, I think the good news is people are excited about this game and interested by this game..

"Welcome to April 13th, 2022 in the national day calendar. Today we celebrate our presidential lunch in the world's favorite word game. Thomas Jefferson was a true renaissance man. He wrote the Declaration of Independence, he doubled the size of the United States via the Louisiana Purchase and he even stalked the Library of Congress with thousands of his own books. But it's one of his lesser known contributions to society that still helps parents everywhere navigate the madness of feeding their kids every day. You see, Jefferson is responsible for introducing macaroni and cheese to Americans. He imported the dish from France and experimented with his own version until he got his recipe just right. It took years, but Mac and cheese caught on with the public and is still around to this day, becoming a go to for kids and those of us who are kids at heart. On national Thomas Jefferson day, celebrate with a bowl of this comfort food in honor of our third president. The game of Scrabble was invented during The Great Depression by and out of work architect. For anyone who grew up on Mars, Scrabble is played with two to four players who score points by forming words from individually lettered tiles on a game board marked with a 15 by 15 grid. Since its humble beginnings, Scrabble is now played in 121 countries in 29 different languages. It was also featured as a television game show in the 1980s. The highest scoring word ever recorded in a Scrabble tournament earned a whopping 392 points. The word was spelled. Which is a type of oriole. On national Scrabble day, challenge someone you know to the classic board game or play online to bring out your inner word nerdiness. I've never heard of physiques. I haven't either. So Mac and cheese, that is a word I can use on Scrabble board, right? Yes. It's gonna be worth like 42 points. Yeah, I'm Anna deavere. I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we celebrate every day. See you tomorrow.

Unfortunately these two sons murdered and these two fathers who will never accepting of their son's sexuality decided to investigate the crime when be lease investigation stalls and in doing so they are trying to achieve thinned for their sons but also i think trying to get redemption for themselves in the ways. They weren't there for their children in life. They're attempting to be there for them in death. Let's talk a little bit more specifically about those two anti hero. Heroes you've got buddy lee jenkins and slash riot randolph. Who are they. They are men of certain age that come with a certain amount of baggage. Because of that age they are both hard scrabble. Southern men who are more alike in have more in common than either one of them could imagine but they're also meant that i think are internally broken in a way that precluded him being able to communicate their sons and i think hinder their relationship with their children and also hinders relationships with other people. I for all his self possessed. Gravitas is still battling with his temper at moments with buddy lee. He's kind of mired himself. This sort of self imposed existential exile from the rest of humanity and so when their sons is sort of snaps amount of this spiritual me ease that they put themselves into the giving to their darker impulses but for a greater good.

"Representative Marie Newman joins the show and she's got some help. Hopefully, in the way on the way in the pipeline, I should say for small businesses, and also at some point we want to get to Maria. Very personal story you shared with team Bo, your child and you were very outspoken about some issues that I know you feel very passionately about. How are you this afternoon? Thanks for calling in the show. I'm great and good to be here. Anna represented Newman Tell me what this is because we do talk about small businesses all the time. In the smallest of the small businesses you recognizing needs some help, and you've come up with some legislation that you hope will provide some of that help. Yeah, you know, even in my own district, and, uh, about 80% of all businesses are smaller micro businesses and and those that are generally run by families and those great places. You like to go right in your neighborhood and they suffered the most through the pandemic. I can get very clear to everybody. So what the rest act is give them some cats. Tax relief. These are the increasing their deductions so they effectively have more working capital in their business. Okay, So how does how does that work? If I'm a small business owner? I'm in a community. I say. You know what? This sounds good. It's you know, it's legislation right now. How would how would we go about getting some of this? And what about the chances it's going to pass? Yes. So the good news Whether you use an accountant or not for your business, um it will be infected passes and it's bipartisan. The good news is that both sides of the aisle like it effectively. Your accountant will know that you will now instead of having a 20% reduction. Excuse me deduction for your business expenses. You'll have a, uh, a 25% deduction, and that effectively allows you to take far less in taxes and actually on allows you to have more working capital in your business. Um, and that's good news. We talk about this all the time. I'm sure it's I think it's still true post pandemic that they're the economic driver for new jobs in the state of Illinois. The small businesses are the ones that are responsible for that kind of growth. 100% they are, you know, the intact, you know, be pre pandemic. It was about 54% of our economy was small businesses right? And, um, that has changed slightly, but it's still the driver and the biggest growth theory A nationwide Yeah, that's it's important to keep them going, and they seem to be the hardest hit. We do talk about that all the time as well. Um, getting back on their feet. Are you hearing anecdotally in your district as you talk to folks across the district is are things looking up for them? Are we still in danger of losing even more of our small businesses? I think it's definitely looking up. Now we did lose. You know, over a million businesses nationwide and a good chunk of our small businesses in Illinois, three suffered or some of them even have to close. What I'm seeing, though, is I do small business tours over the last six months is that, um, we are seeing relief, and we're seeing that a lot of our restaurants got some relief from the from the FDA ideal and tpp loans. In the grant. So we're seeing folks rebounding and getting opening their doors again. Good news all way around. Yeah, it is good news. And I think that they're hoping to get more people to come back to work, particularly in the service sector. We are seeing some people left the business or not returning to those jobs. And I know we hear all the time, uh, that that kind of thing. It's difficult and on the restaurant industry in particular. Absolutely. And one of the biggest reasons that cited in all the studies when we look at that is that, um, these folks don't have child care. Um, we've lost about 70% of our child care system in this country. So one of the pieces of legislation that's coming out in the family fact is to support childcare and every K and and have child care resources readily available for families that, um one or both parents work. Yeah. And you said this legislation that you introduced has got bipartisan support. So you've got a good chance of getting to pass. When would it get past? Is it Is it soon? I mean, I know not everything worse as quickly as we like in D. C, but sometimes it's good to be tomorrow. You know, I if I had my brother, but it will be before we introduce it. It has to go through some work right on committee. So, um, it will be introduced in the next couple months. And then what we hope to have it is, um embedded and passed so that in fact if available For taxes next year. Okay, Can we talk about something? You've been talking about? Openly a personal, um, a personal conversation you've been having with your child. Evie, you are in teen Vogue recently with her. You appeared in a special issue. About her transitioning transgender and to a transgender. Guess how old is she now? Is she she in college or he? How do we? What's the pronoun? She is her pronoun as she and her name is Eddie. And she transitioned about. Oh, gosh. Almost six years ago. Um and we, you know the folks that teen Vogue wanted to hear her story, so we shared it and I couldn't be more proud of the she She did a lot of work, and she's doing really well. No. Um And our story is important because while Evie had great support from friends and family and all kinds of resources here in the Chicago worried because the state of Illinois is a very transgender friendly and L G B T Q friendly state Most states aren't and we thought it was really important to talk about this story. So those folks that are in those states that don't have all the resources know that there is help on the way the the Visa Equality Act, And so we sat down with team though they had that conversation. And what would the Equality Act do? How does that accomplish that? Yeah, The Equality Act is, you know it's pretty simple. It would prevent discrimination in employment, education, housing workplaces, um, in public spaces and on And right Now, there are many states sadly, honor that still find it very allowable to discriminate based on housing, and they can deny your application and a bunch of different things, Uh, in terms of looking for a job, so it is really it's a very serious situation. And it's just the basis of our foundation. Right, which is equity and equality. So all we're saying is that that we want equality for LGBT LGBTQ, plus community. Nothing more. Yeah, I hear you and your team Vogue. People would like to take a look at it. It is a fascinating look. And you talk about you having you dealing with it personally, as well as E V dealing with what she has been going through and she found support here as you point out, not every place. Allows or offers that sort of support. You said, pretending to be something you're not is literally the hardest thing on the planet. It's the most destructive thing to yourself. But everyone around you, and then you talk about creating an environment where everyone is equal with the premise of this equality Act. How was it though as a parent? To be faced with this news for her to come to you and say this is what I'm going to do. This is who I am. Well, my husband I and and my son were all thrilled because I have to tell you. It's a very joyful experience when anybody it doesn't matter who they are, has found themselves and found their authenticity. You know, she had been dealing with a lot of depression and anxiety that was extremely serious to the point of hospitalization. And the Rangers take a 2 to 1 lead stroll trying to get into the front of the net, quite backhands, advantage and and open that makes no mistake a power play goal for the Rangers. "Theresa's seaver sister recalls the weekend of june twenty sixth twenty fifteen. The began celebration of their mother's birthday and abruptly ended as the last weekend the family would ever spend together. We enjoyed the weather the first day. It was beautiful and we swam in the pool and we relaxed in the sun sister's doing yoga. She prepared a beautiful dinner starting to cook for the weekend. And we just enjoy each other's company and had wine and laughed and played a lot of scrabble. 'cause it rained the next day so we just played a lot of scramble. Hanno 'cause much to our delight there was a piano there on my sister. And i played and we hadn't played in years. There was a lot of that these gatherings it was once a tradition to take a family photo together and so all the siblings significant others and grandchildren huddled around each other smiling knowing this family ritual would soon and forever be too painful to recreate as the family. Reunion came to a close that sunday. Evening theresa savers her husband mark and her two daughters drove south to laguardia airport. Which theresa would be dropped off for her flight. Back home to receivers was in fact. Dr theresa verse with a busy practice patients to see first thing monday morning. Mark and their two daughters would stay behind driving back up north to connecticut. Reuniting with theresa's mother and extending their vacation for the next several days theresa returned home just after eleven pm that sunday night and after parking the mini van in the garage placing our luggage near the front. Bumper theresa walked through the laundry room and into the kitchen where she would set her purse on the counter. Undoubtedly feeling that same sense of comfort. We all feel when we're finally back home. After a long day of travel but hardly a moment that past when an extremely loud crashing sound rang out like a gong being hit directly behind earlier that going off the kitchen walls and startling theresa with a terrifying notion that someone else was in her home. She turned around. The large man was already through the laundry room and standing in the kitchen doorway wielding a hammer and striking her in the head with three swift strokes.

If you're not drafting a quarterback, then why do you pick week 17 to do this? For three picks again. It comes back to Howie Roseman because again, a guy who's been an architect of a Super Bowl franchise. We give him credit for this. Ah, guy who's been an architect of a Super Bowl franchise. You're telling me that you don't trust him enough? Either evaluated quarterback and take it into the draft. Take him in the draft, or that you don't trust him enough to evaluate to take a talent at number nine overall. Him for Jalen hurts. He's either your future or if he's that never was. Then what were you doing? Drafted over the second round last year instead of putting out more talent there on the field for Carson Wentz, and Of course that brings me to Carson Wentz. A bad contract with wasted money. At least you didn't waste time but again, who doesn't come back to either way? This whole thing makes Howie Roseman looked bad. That's why I'm not mad because I know that this is not the biggest issue in the world. Just a drop. But on one Sunday night you took a Super Bowl winning head coaches had a bad year. Had a bad year. Scrabble app faces backlash from traditionalists as board game goes online

"Today's topic is scrabble. US Avid. Word nerds have been using the a scrabble APP for many years now it's a great way to fill the time and challenge your mind as you deal with the stress of corona virus and zoom calls. My Mom who's eighty five years old with an incredible mind for words plays every day. Unfortunately despite America's urgent need for things to pass the time right now, the folks Hasbro decided to kill ea scrabble. For most people. It stopped working on June sixth. Almost five hundred people have commented on my blog post about the shutdown and boyer they, upset. In the place of EA scrabble, you can try the new APP scrabble go created by scope. If, you can imagine they've game fide scrabble. scrabble go includes throbbing graphics in Garish Orange, Yellow and purple. It constantly bugs you to get your facebook friends to play. You could earn chestful of virtual prizes and customize your scrabble tiles. It includes duels, tournaments and timed contests that everyday scrabble players would have no interest in. After ten you get to watch pure. Add for other silly games more suitable for children. I did my best to give scrabble go a fair chance, but even if you can get past the distracting graphics lighting up like a Vegas Casino, there are problems. I cost four dollars ninety nine cents a month to get rid of the ADS and get features that used to be free like seeing the best move that you missed. Sixty dollars a year is pretty steep. Second. If you like to play the machine, you'll be disappointed. You Play Zoe an animated Avatar with an unnaturally large head. WHO's a pretty lame scrabble player? Many players, soliciting you to play, are actually bites. WHO also tend to be terrible? Third the game includes boosts which allow people to cheat. Once you accumulate enough gems. You can swap out your tiles anytime when any move which makes it way too easy. The only escape is a deeply buried classic mode. Finally. Many women players tell me that men are hitting on them using scrabble. Go as a dating site. My evaluation despite the name scrabble go isn't even good enough to use when sitting in the bathroom. Don't despair though there are alternatives. If you like to play the computer, the best choice is word master pro. This elegant APP created by developer and Brazil has a computer that plays at lightning speed, and can be set to a high challenge level, and to avoid strange words. You'd never spot outside a scrabble dictionary. It's only three ninety nine a one time purchase. There are scrabble variants like Lexus and works with friends, but classic scrabble players will object since they don't duplicate the traditional scrabble layout. If you want a timed game, go to I. S C Dot Aro, the Internet scrabble club. It's a rush, but not everyone loves the stress of a countdown timer.

Honestly what was the purpose of common? Come into the block party. Yeah okay. So she's here but she Watch her do anything. It's not that she needs to have like some real conversation. As a matter of fact I'm just like okay. So did you really just come here? It'd be like yeah me and Lawrence broke up. Well I feel like a part of her coming was to try to make sure that she was salvaging. Her professional relationships right so it sounds like she was the one who brought spotify onboard. And maybe some other people and so it feels like maybe she was doing some damage control. Make sure you know like hey I was the one who signed you up for this and give me show my face right and given that she doesn't know how e- so you know fared after she dropped her she probably was coming to see like okay. Is Everything going to be good so that I can maintain these professional relationships shrew true? I mean it was. It happened so fast I was like you know what almost the yeah. Yeah so she just POPs back up after ghosting Easter. Yes like you said. He kind of a continuation of the goes man. This kind of goes back to our previous conversation from a few episodes ago just about the importance of having difficult conversations. Even if you don't WanNa have them so yes so now. We've seen that ISA has had to try to manage in scramble to replace her head liner into Kinda. Get all of this stuff. Taken care of after condolences drops out on her and boy. What a scrabble it was. Just I like the whole thing. I mean it really. Does this whole season for me. You know communication but my partner jazz just looking at some of those season. One season two seasons three cats. 'cause the let me refresh some things. Coletta thing for Congress on the Internet but I simply do not agree with I was just like Oh my goodness like season one. Isa Confronted Molly about some foolishness. What does she confront her? He should've watched the recap confront her. Because I definitely have been seeing conversations around like well hasn't been that great of a friend either and so I've been trying to remember like what would has done. That has kind of painted her as not a great France. Oh did you see some of that in the recaps? Not Okay actually. Not What I saw. And you know the memories that sparked fires but I watched for the other. Three seasons was mostly that both of them have foolishness with one another. Both of them had expectations. That were unstated for one. Another and that at times that ended up getting in the way of how they wanted to do their friendship at the end of season. I can't even last. It was at the end but in season I think it was one or two ballots. Went with when Easter was still at. We got y'all She confronted Molly. Like what's up with you you you talking a while. Two people I work with. I mean you trip. Was She act? Sir? I'm not avoiding actually wanting to have a conversation and then just how that whole conversation was so left because molly was hurt that he said maybe you could benefit from therapy. That's when we saw that conversation You know and it's reminded reminder like you know you. The common denominator inaugural messed up relationships as you this one. Is this too thirsty to one? After this will not educated the way you need him to be educated like the common denominator is useless. What are you GONNA do about? Even then that conversation really only came up. Because Molly was you know deflecting Become fronted on her poor behavior by ESA and instead took it as an opportunity of well. What about what you do? I'm just that type of stuff that we do. We do that very often when we are not ready to be confronted we WANNA throw it back to something else. That happened and I was just like well. All of these things. They call less like looking back from season one. It makes sense exactly why they're here where they are in season four.

"Bribery tests about your family. My family my lovely family so I am a bit of a late mom I'm a late comer to the game Because it's about having children. Basically I was having such a good time with my career in life that I talked to my mid thirty shit. Guess that's right children something. Something's missing children. That's and I come from a very close family. I went with my sister. Who's actually sitting quietly in the room? Which is a one off. She has made us sit in the corner knight reprints from dirty rotten scoundrels this before we tell them again. Yes I'll sit here so we are very close and my mom and dad were very very gorgeous parent so we've got a very special bond that my parents are still alive. So family is very important to me and I said I'd sort of just lost track of time and thought took him with his children so as it happened. I met the right person to do that with and we tried to have children. Well we had. We had a little boy. I Love News. Boy called SAF eight years ago. Who just was life changing in the way that you know that babies can be for all the good reasons. I'm going to stick with at the moment. Let's not go down the scummy route. Let's stick with and then I was desperate desperate desperate forty so I was really pushing it at that stage and I was desperate for him to have siblings. Because I just thought we're old. We might will die soon. And he's going to be on his own and I didn't want that and then there's I think that just is something in built other friends and women that I've spoken to. You ought to have that feeling where you don't and definitely an internal drive for me. I felt that he needed siblings. So we went on the fruit and that was pretty tricky. I had five rounds of IVF. I've missed miscarriage in the middle of all of that. So I had one night where I was in excruciating pain but didn't know what was going on and actually nothing seemed to be wrong and then I went for a scam for the first week and because I knew that I was pregnant that stage and my my specialist said to me. I'm really sorry. There's no heartbeat unity. The embryo is still in that. So that our hearts go with that process you have it's not cool to DNC anymore. It's called something else. But that's what that's what people would do it. But that's basically they have to remove what's left inside so that was all very traumatic and very sad and I sort of gave myself a few more chances. I thought okay. Well I'll I'll have another. I'll have another go at. I think I ended up having another two goes and on the fifth attempt I was. I mean it's a long story that I won't take everybody down that path but eventually I went to Greece. I took time off from work which I hit never done before. And that's where I found out I was pregnant. Oh which is very lovely because it sort of completes the circle of my heritage as well. That's beautiful so that we now have to live in a lovely way to shit. Valentine father at this stage I worked it out. That's amazing and now I have so now. I have a little boy who's called Zack. Which is efforts which is a great name and he's eight. I have to go digital twin girls who are called Zina Zapped which also great names and they are just five one but come home deep down here. Judy preparation Malaya scummy mummy. Of course. We're all skinny. Oh my God I mean people was asking. What are the advantages of being an older mom? And you got your wise enough experience and you'll financially soul issue free bus. Yeah exactly when he gets a bye but of course you're also a bit more lacquered. Yeah you don't I mean I like to think I've got quite a good imagination on adventures at my kids so we do fun things but I have never ever ever been a morning person even on shoots when I'm filming my crew. No whatever needs to be done I get that done first and then we'll me out of bed. It's just bad my eyes closed. I'm really grumpy. And it's unfortunately parent who did not change sat in any way so scummy. Mummy number one sort of bad trade is on the weekends. I'm very very strict with the kids with screen time and everything but the weekends they know my weak spot so they know that if they come in to me at seven o'clock in the morning and go. Can we watch film? I'm going to roll into the godfather part two is already in the DVD player. Just press play thanks see. Mummy can't now. Yeah so mornings afternoons on your mom you back in the game back in the game. Let's go to the park. Let's you scrabble. Let's let's do just downs. Whatever it is. Let's scrabble in the park. That sounds like a nightmare. One Gust of wind. You'RE GONNA triple word score for you. Chris I was GONNA ask what you'll be gets parenting challenge. It sounds like mornings mornings mornings of my biggest spared but I'm also balancing the work. Work thing my my career is very important to me because it's such a strong part of my identity and obviously done that much much longer than my mom and I also think it's important for my kids to have a role model in terms of working. They're going to have to work. Got Boys and girls and I find my job very fulfilling. It's the grease series of sounds amazing. But that's not just what I do. There are other of the jobs that I do. But it's very satisfying. I'm learning all the time and meet New People time. Yes traveled the world to incredible places. And all of that I think is important knowledge and experience wisdom that I can slowly drip feed down to my mind. Literally so yeah. It's the challenge juggling big on. Have you ever turned up right somewhere to attend program? Which as you know is your job and go night. This is rubbish. Like this is really. This is not expecting this is measurable how am I Gonna? Pretend this is nice for the ten right. So I'm quite lucky now because I'm now because I'm old now because I've been around for a long time. I I can sort of pick and choose my jobs so I get. I'm also very good. I always have a meeting with the production team and get get a first off instinct to feel about what the product is and how it's going to go and whether or not it's something that is this important enough. Am I going to enjoy it? Enough is the satisfaction level and the reward. Onscreen is going to be good enough for me to leave my children at home and let somebody else look after them and if the answer is no then I just do the job

The Suitcase Murder

"Welcome to hurry. I'm Jill and I'm Dick the bill and Melanie McGuire were an attractive couple in their thirties. They had two young sons to successful careers and they just disclosed and a five hundred thousand dollar home when bill disappeared. Melanie told their friends that they had fought on the night when they closed on their new home bill bill had physically attacked her and walked out telling her he was done with her buildings seem like the type of guy who would hit his wife and lead his children behind but Melanie insisted that he had hit her and walked out on his family. She even went to court and took out a restraining order against bill as the days passed did no one heard from bill. Melanie appeared to be moving on with her life without him but bills family and friends were worried bill had been a gambler may get pissed off the wrong people then a bizarre story got everyone's attention. I A Kenneth Cole suitcase was found in Virginia Beach and it contained aimed a pair of bloodless male human legs that had been severed at the knees one week later Virginia Beach Police recovered a second suitcase that was part of the same in Kenneth Cole set it held a five pound weight black trash bags and more human remains this time it was a man's head in torso but here this man was and when he had been killed were still unknown then the third last suitcase was recovered within two weeks it contains the man's hips and thighs. Virginia Beach Police launched an extensive investigation to identify the victim and identified him as Bill McGuire join us at the quiet in today for a very haunting case that became known as the suitcase murder well respected fertility nurse Melanie he McGuire was accused of her husband's murder and dismemberment and she faced life in prison. Although her attorney would argue her innocence a complex unraveling reveling of the facts would reveal a twisted murder plot which grew from infidelity greed and hate New Jersey case means new New Jersey near yeah figured I'm assuming she killed him in New Jersey. That's the belief yes. She didn't dump his body parts in New Jersey. I don't think now aw but the killing was done so I picked a beer called head high which is brewed by Kane Brewing Company in Ocean New Jersey Far Southern Jersey assist the shore head high is an American. It A in at six point six percent alcohol by volume pretty nice beer hazy orange colour. You're a whitehead some pretty lace aroma of citrus and pine. We have a citrus taste upfront grapefruit and tangerine primarily then some pine nine overlaps and Caramel Mo- nicely hop beer good bitterness the nice beer more vo west coast. IPA TRY IT. That sounds Cilicia. I love that kind of beer. This is your Beer Jill. Yes okay. Let's open that up right away. All right lead the way why down to the quiet end in you can begin our story. Bill McGuire was born in nineteen sixty four in river edge. New Jersey the two older sisters his father worked as a pressman for the New York. Times and his mother stayed home with kids. A billy was the baby of the family family. He got a lot of attention. Here's a cute but very rambunctious kid now when he was four years old his parents divorced bill's mother had to take a job to support the children so she worked the night shift wild bill's oldest sister. Cindy babysat her siblings the Mon- Work Six nights a week so Sunday began to feel like she was a second mother to Bill Leeann. I think bill really looked at her that way even as an adult or you're she had a very maternal influence on his life and when bill was twelve his sister. Cindy moved out and married a guy named bill. Gosh he was an older man who was a pharmacist first and then bills other sister. Nancy moved out as well. Their parents had divorced and remarried a few times so it was very unstable. Environment Sir remarried controller yes back and forth while and Nancy would later accused their father of sexually abusing her too so there's a lot going on in the home sounds work so bill went to Catholic school and he was a decent B. Student. He was quite outgoing and a lot of friends when he was just fifteen ran ran away from home and went to live with Cindy and her husband and he did live with them for a while but eventually left after not following all of her household rules because Cindy was strict then after that he went to his sister Nancy but she didn't have room for him so for awhile bill lived with his high school coach and then he lived with the family of one of his best friends so this is kind of a hard scrabble life he had in his teens assurances. Just been a Roman around yeah. Yeah doesn't have any stability really not much now and we're not really sure what was going on in the home that he felt like he had to run away but it was probably tumultuous between the parents. I mean just the fact that they were together the not together then together the not together. I mean that's that's in stable ripple enough her unstable enough by itself. Yes absolutely so bill was living with his friend. Lenny and his parents and Lenny's twelve year old sister Marcie Darcy got a really big crush on bill so after graduating in nineteen eighty two bill joined the navy thought it would give him some direction in life leaving both his high school girlfriend behind and young Marcy. He broke two hearts when he left the navy bill made friends with a guy named Joe Rice Ace. He was another recruit who was three years older at first. Joe Thought that bill was kind of obnoxious because he was always showing off and telling jokes but then the two men eventually became close friends and bill was very well dressed and bought himself a Camaro which he shouldn't have been able to afford he would admit to Joe that he was opening up checking accounts in fake names and writing bad checks in order to finance the lifestyle that he wanted to live Marino. I got certain needs in my life. I'm just gonNA write checks. I think that's the way he looked at it and remember this is a guy who didn't have much guidance right and he he was really taken with having things that he had had growing up so not to make excuses because it really wasn't a good thing to do of course of course yeah but now that's what he did so in nineteen eighty five. I guess he's been in the service for about three years at this point bill's girlfriend from back home. Lisa flew down in Norfolk to Sam on a weekend. Leave a few months later bill visit Lisa in Vernon New Jersey but their relationship came to an end over well he was in New Jersey Bill. Marcy asked her out on a date and then he and Marcie gradually became a couple and kept in touch with pitcher yes so after Joe Rice married his girlfriend he told bill about how much more money would be making his naval marriage benefits his income nearly doubled after near his girlfriend and then it wasn't too long after that when bill decided to ask Marcie Mary him so a lot of people thought bill just did that to make more money. Let's the impression absolutely his buddies. Tahoe are almost doubled my income so bill's Franken. That's brewing right. We'll marcy was younger though she just graduated from high school but she was very very taken with bill and she accepted did his proposal and she moved down to Virginia to live with bill and to go to College Marsin Bill secretly married in a civil ceremony and then they moved into into a one bedroom apartment together nineteen ninety bill left the navy after earning his associate's degree from tidewater Community College Bill Dylan Marcy Move to Edison New Jersey and he started attending rutgers university where he was going to study pharmacology bill and Marcy moved into an apartment and both took jobs in local restaurants to pay the bills but bill is unhappy then he wanted to split up nineteen ninety two he left. Marcy surprised her. I guess pretty much broker heart 'cause the next two years. She tried to win him back but bill never looked back at Marcy. Who's WHO's dating new women again almost right away after the break-up yeah he had already really checked out of the marriage and then in the summer of nineteen ninety four for a friend of bills introduced him to Melanie slate. The two were attracted to each other and they seem to have a lot in common. They seem to really make a good match. Watch so a little bit about Melanie. Melanie Lynn slate was born in nineteen seventy two in Ridgewood New Jersey. Her father left her mother. When Melanie Melanie was still a baby and then he died a few years later from cancer. Melanie's mother Linda moved back into her appearance on with her daughter and Melanie's Janis Aunts and grandmother helped to raise her her mother. Linda can you to her secretarial job in Manhattan and that's where she began having an affair with her boss Michael Caporetto and that would last for years and Years Melanie grew up beside Michael Cap narrows son Michael Junior and and when Captain Aero finally left his wife he and his son moved in with Linda Melanie but it certainly wasn't the ideal childhood. Her doesn't sound black. Does it now so the kids would go along with Lyndon Michael when they went to Atlantic City Michael Junior and Melanie. You were usually left alone in hotel. Rooms are pretty lengthy times while appearance gambled Michael Senior was such a high stakes gambler learn they were often given comte hotel suites in room service for the children. SA- gambling really can be a serious addiction. WHOA course I've never never really known anyone that has it by Sir with sound of surprise well after I read about this I looked into some other issues with that and children and there is a problem in Atlantic City and Las Vegas of people just Kinda dumping their kids and running off to gamble for days at a time were very often read stories about the type of thing apparent has come the gamble and just dump the kids somewhere. You're gives them a few dollars. Say go under around how fine the gamble one. I think forget about their kids. They get so involved in it because there have been instances was reading about where children have been molested or even kidnapped napped. You know little girls using the restroom in a casino by themselves ECORSE. That's not why s- some horrible things have happened because of this so the only thing I can think is it must be a very strong addiction like drugs for people to leave their kids like that sure immune. A lot of these people are normally holly good parents but this is how Michael and Melanie grew up with a lot of that now even though their parents had some money and they were comps suites they were still abandoned on their own so they became very self sufficient these kids. I guess that's the good part about it. Melanie was really an excellent student and issue reached her teens. She was a beautiful girl. She had long wavy brown hair and a petite figure. She became very self confident and was very flirtatious with the boys at school. Some of the other girls disliked her but melanie had an outward kind. Mr Mr Personality too and she often took weaker girls under her weighing in offered advice on advice and support now. She is an attractive woman you you compare it to an actress. who was that well at Harry? I just mentioned that she looked like what's her name. Marielle and Muster Antonio Veterinary Curry something master Antonio Okay so an actress from like the eighties here yeah yes so she's a good looking woman and she had a lot of freedom when she she was a teenager so that could be a bad combination all this free of within attractive teenage girl she last virginity on a trip to Mexico when she was just thirteen eighteen years old because she and Michael Junior were going out to nightclubs and bars they were just on their own on these vacations so she hooked up with with a Lerman lost her virginity at a young age and then Melanie also began to gamble and she became promiscuous. She slept with older teens when young men who buttered gifts and took her out to fancy restaurants. She was almost like an escort in her teens with some of these older guys and she was his proud of it. She bragged about having affairs with two of her married high schoolteachers as well something to brag about. Isn't it on your teenage girl. You don't the better chance right.

Poll: Many Rural Americans Struggle With Financial Insecurity, Access To Health Care

"Support for this podcast and the following message come from the university of Maryland where the founders of Google Oculus and squarespace got their started. Find out how you MD can start up your next adventure at you and you MD dot com. That's why. Oh, you and you MD dot com. The economy may be strong but many Americans finances are not. That's especially true in many rural areas in Opole of role. Americans by NPR last fall. Fifty five percent of those surveyed said their local economy was only poor or fair. A follow up poll by NPR the Robert Wood Johnson foundation and the Harvard ta Chan school of public health digs deeper. It finds four out of ten rural Americans struggle with routine bills for housing food and medical care, half of rural Americans say they could not afford it. If they got hit with a surprise one thousand dollar expense. NPR's petty name, and has more. Our new poll was telephone survey of just over fourteen. Nine hundred adults living in rural areas across the country areas like Weitzberg nestled in the mountains of eastern, Kentucky coalfields seventy two year old lethal dollar hide a retired caregiver lives nearby go out of town like you're going toward hazard. And there's a turn off there on nine thirty one south. It's within about four miles of where I was born. So I asked dollar hide the question we asked in our poll, could you afford an unexpected thousand dollar Bill? No, no. There's no way not even a two hundred dollar extra Bill. What about savings, my savings account zero I don't even have a savings account dollar hide worked all her life. But the jobs just didn't pay enough for her to put anything aside. She raised for children today, her income social security and supplemental. Security income adds up to seven hundred ninety dollars a month with that income. You watch every penny even so dollar high. Just couldn't afford to make it on her own. She recently moved into a two bedroom trailer with her daughter, even with the extra money from her daughter. It's still hard. They have no car and the cost of electricity is barely affordable. It was three hundred sixty something and the two hundred dollars rent, there's nothing left. So no movies. No dinners out. The only luxury is cable TV, but dollar Hyde says, she's one of the lucky ones she has Medicare and estate health plan that covers her health costs. That's not the case for many of those in our poll, Harvard professor Robert plantain, one in four reported that they could not get healthcare recently when they needed it, and majority said, it's either, because they couldn't afford it or they had insurance that would not be taken by local health providers a serious. National concern says blend and even with major improvements and health insurance coverage over the last decade, these. Problems are more severe for African American communities and native Americans as well as Latinos, and the future of healthcare, and rural America looks even more grim says Brock sleigh back with the national rural Health Association, one hundred six rural hospitals have closed of the past decade, which he says, can make timely medical care nearly impossible, take the town of China PA in Nevada. It's how spittle closed a few years ago this left the service to deal with all kinds of medical problems that are not situated to do. And so when they get on the road to the next nearest hospital as a three hour trip, one way, the hospital is more than a hundred miles away. We know that distance can be a barrier to timely and appropriate access to services. And so in that context delayed care can often lead to tragic consequences, especially in rural areas where people may not have a car. And public transportation may be unreliable. Bottom line says, sleigh Bach wealth equals health report, and were sicker, d Davis is president of the center for rural strategies in Weitzberg people in this congressional district have the shortest lifespan in the United States. We also are the poorest, but one of our big findings was that rural Americans are also optimistic about their communities, d Davis, people may be living more of a hard scrabble existence than folks in the suburbs, or a lot of the folks in the cities. But then mean they're not leaving decent life. And most people are pretty happy with it. And they've got friends and neighbors that they rely on their where they wanna be community activists. Now field says of the past few weeks when her husband was hospitalized her neighbors were extrordinary my neighbors come in Mohmand grass. And neighbors come and feed our cattle and our neighbors gather the eggs and every day for the last few weeks and says, so much to me makes me feel the emotion now of what it feels like to have such more, wonderful support. And I know that, that's the blessing of living in rural America. And that's what our poll found ninety two percent of those surveyed said they had people nearby. They could rely on in times of need. "This is a message to all the accountants out there. If you are worried that a robot is going to take your job become a certified management accountant, you see we are only programmed to mine data and crunch numbers. You'll have control over the strategy and the decision making so become a CNA and robots like me will help you not hurt you unless we short-circuit then all bets are off the certification. You've gotta earn it. Visit certification dot org for details. Hello. From the newsroom the financial times in London. I'm season blimp. Som Ray blocks a California-based online gaming started valued at t- point four billion dollars. In offend raising round lost year has taken the US by storm. And is now I in Europe's thriving market Malcolm more discusses the rise of cloud gaming with Alli ram and timber chew. So I can you tell us what is roadblocks? How's it evolved? And how come so many kids in the US playing it? Yes. Well, it's extrordinary. They claim to have half of all nine to twelve year olds in America's uses and they have said they have more than ninety million monthly users around the world. It's a gaming platform in which uses children mostly designed that own games and games, kind of become more or less prominent based on how many people are playing them and how much they're enjoying them. And based on that. It's become really big. So you can go onto it you can design a game. And then you can play the game that you've designed nor shall the game with your friends. You can play the game you've designed you can play your friends games. They can play your games you can make a business out of it. You can make money off it. Okay. So that makes it very different then from games like foot night and Minecraft. Yes. So the models different. Because instead of building your own features in an existing world, you actually build your wealth from scratch as a user, and you can do that either by dragging and dropping features that roadblocks has designed and office to you to choose from or you can actually code elements of the world and the game that you want to create in that world yourself does that sound about right? Tim a decent. There are some overlaps in a way with fortnight in the foot night in his current geysers. This battle royale game where there's one hundred people competing to get down to the last man standing at the it's sort of become a mole flu. Would space than just that. Because you have concerts being held there. You have people using it as effectively just kind of place to hang out with their friends in that respect that both kind of virtual worlds, the have given a new kind of place for people to make their own entertainment in a way, it's not quite as prescriptive as trying to complete a level the kind of traditional videogames of old. This is the phenomenon that is cold in the industry, social gaming, and is becoming increasingly popular, and it's a kind of gaming community in which playing games as one tiny part of what they do. And a lot else of what they do is communicate with friends with strangers and share experiences online. The ideas sort of originally goes back to Facebook pre mobile, so farmville throwing sheep and things like that which were sort of big on Facebook probably almost a decade ago now, but kind of dropped off when Facebook moved onto mobile because it wasn't the same abilities to create. Mini games. Insides the Facebook out as the was on the desktop and so companies like Zinger at pine it that area died away a little bit and a lot of social mechanics that they were using more about trying to recruit new users than genuine the spending time with your friends or playing case, your friends, and that started to change with titles like was with friends while you were playing scrabble against people online. But that's now starting to come back again come full circle. And so he still Snapchat has just launched its knees social gaming platform Myer actually in your chats with your friends playing a little game right in now. Which is an idea that was really popularized in China with we chat, and the we chat many games platform. So there's lots of different attempts in lots of different ways now to create this sort of social gaming idea. Do you guys think that the audience for social games is different from the audience for traditional console games? Or are we looking at situation where the audience migrates from one to the other? Oh, I think one of the things that's marked out the the sort of lost decade in the advent of mobile gaming is it has broadens the number of people who play games regularly, whether the you'd looking at things like angry birds or candy crush all those kinds of things and those by and large were still solo activities, but people who might not want to sit down and play cola juicy or even for that muscle full night for an intensive period of time of got more used to this more casual form of gaming, and so that's in a way, why when the smartphone I came out, and they are obstacle launched. There was a lot of concern in the industry that would cannibalize console gaming actually it just increase the size of the market overall. And so the console gaming market was more for the hardcore gamers and the PC gaming mauka, even more dedicated players. And then there's a large number of people playing less frequently or less intensively on the smallest green and phones and those lines now really starting to blur. Okay. But with things like the roadblocks platform and others. Sort of social games are the best enjoyed on a mobile or on a desktop, and if their best enjoyed on a desktop where does that leave mobile games where they go in the future? It's a Google is trying to square that circle with its new games Jimmy platform stadia which was unveiled a couple of weeks ago, and is designed so that you can play exactly the same game on any device whether that is your phone or a PC or the TV sets. And so because all of the processing is done in the clouds and the same way as Netflix extremes videos to your screen. Whatever size comes to be. It will stream a fully-fledged game with really rich graphics, and you're not constrained by the processing power that you have runny particular device. And so it's not yet clear what games are going to emerge from that have been very little titles announced fill stadia so far. But that promise that you can play the same game everywhere was kind of established with full night. And it was something that started off as a kind of PC phenomenon. The only really took office his huge cultural movements, especially among younger players when it go onto Android denial s early last year. I think all these different gaming platforms catering to slightly different audiences are one of the major things that roadblocks is targeting is the developer community, so one of the big pitches that they make is that as a user of roadblocks. You can monetize a game yourself by building something that becomes popular goes viral. You can sell features within that game to other uses and Tun into a business, and I spoke to some developers who have built games on roadblocks, and it seems possible to make tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds. They claim some people have made millions of pounds on the platform by doing this. So I think some of these platforms addressing slightly different communities of gamers. I mean I mean, in a in way. a way this was the promise of second life more than a decade ago. Right. This was supposed to be an infinitely flexible virtual world where people could spend their time. And I think the problem the second life had part from the fact that the graphics were fairly poor and the connection was fairly terrible. Was that people go there, and he didn't really know what to do. And so very books solves out and vote night solves that by saying a case of start with it's a game and you come here primarily to play a game. And then they give you the tools to create something different out of that. And that's where roadblocks is definitely pioneering this vastly more inventive and creative type of gaming platform. So for large in the United States, but they are now expanding elsewhere. Yes. So they say they've seen much faster growth in Europe than in the US, and that focusing on the French and German market, they've launched a platform in French and German. They've also launched it in Korean and simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese which suggests they've got that is also firmly fixed on the Chinese massive. Market of gamers, so yeah, I think the next phase of the growth as the head of international expansion explained is overseas. How does roadblocks make money out of all of this of all these users and developers coming onto its platform and making their own games? Well, develop has got to keep a quarter of the money that's spent in that games, and very blocks takes away the rest, so they make money that way primarily and they claim that that model has allowed the business to become cash. Flow positive in the games. You mean uses buying certain items all lives or other things? The treasure chest type stuff that you can buy inside of games. Yes. So uses spun real money to buy a virtual currency, and then they can spend that virtual currency on things like clothes for that avatar or new features as part of the game. Enough to pay to play. They don't have to pay to play. I think that's a very keen business model innovation. These games are having in fortnight night is another great example of it. If you're trying to create an online space that is a genuine community you need to be able to kind of attract as many people as possible. But if it is a place where you are being yourself and hanging out you will want to kiss out. So the theory goes your avatar with something that establishes your personality, or nor density in the virtual world is the same way as you buy clothes fashion in the real world. And so the two things kind of Fito feature. Okay. And then just one final full them as the audiences for these grams grow in these communities and lodge. You know, are we going to face situation where safety becomes a problem? How regulators going to address what happens in these virtual worlds blocks has a kind of amazing and horrifying story about a child's avatar character who was right on the platform. And that was last year they said that the platform was hacked, and that's how. How that happened and they claim to have addressed it. But of course, as with all of these tools when you have children playing socially online, probably without being monitored. By parents does going to be a lot of concern about what happens in that context. And whether people who want to abuse that can leverage that game to do that. And I think that's just the nature of the beast. So for instance, roadblocks does own that problem, and they very vocally say that they want children to play on blocks, and that therefore they're going to have to deal with really complicated safety issues and invested not to make sure it's safe for them, the verification point, an how parental consensus grunted, whether it really is parental Cassandra disgrunted or just a kid taking a Boggs is a big unsold problem. Right. The way across this industry at the moment. And I don't know if that's going to be regulated into a solution something that the industry comes up with themselves. But it feels like that's gonna keep being an issue until something more a bus. Is put into place the but stories up a whole other set of questions around how much of your identity you want to share in verify online. So it's a really tough problem. Okay. Thank you very much.
