Nike CEO John Donahoe's Lessons on Servant Leadership
"What star. John rains that i am most associate with you. Which is servant leadership. And i'd love if you could describe your philosophy on servant leadership especially try to conceptualize it for much smaller organizations. What does it mean to serve leader as a ceo of a bunch of ceo's around the table how should they think about how that philosophy conform away they run their business so when i talk about servant leadership. It's frankly the the way. I learned to lead because i actually learned the lead in partnership a ban where you aren't really empowered to do anything to you have to earn the respect and the followership of others. You guys don't have that as founders. But i do think you'll find that. Many of the best leaders exhibited the principles servant leadership. And i just say how do i serve serve. The purpose of the organization serve the customers served. The employees serve the communities in which we operate in a jim collins called at level five leadership other people call from things. But it's when someone it's not about the leader it's about what it is. We are trying to accomplish right and some of the antithesis of what's hot silicon valley at different times the narrative. Always around the all-powerful founder. They're all powerful leader. And i think there's actually very few examples where that actually great sustainable companies come out of that my leadership role model for large parts of my career with phil jackson of the chicago bulls. Now it'd be steve kerr for your younger and would always struck me. He was able to do is get people who actually were better than he was klay. Together he got michael jordan. Scottie pippen dennis. Rodman caster characters to win six championships. It got shack kobe to play together. You look at you. Look at steve kerr the warriors right. Now he's getting. Somehow he's getting steph curry klay thompson and kevin durant andrew mongering all vying to something greater and they win i view with how do you build high performance teams of top talent to win and servant leadership is part of it.
I've Hired Several Coaches, but No Improvements. What's Wrong With Me?
"Hey i've hired three business coaches. They've all felt like a waste of time and money. And i haven't seen any improvements what's going on. There's something wrong with me. My doing this wrong. what's happening. Well i want to answer this question to make sure i also address. Everybody was listening. That my have a similar question thinking about hiring a coach or have higher coach. Maybe didn't see the results are looking for on a star by saying i have gone through this several times. I've hired coaches have a lot of experience. And not all. My experiences with coaches have been the same. I i have to say a quick If you have a coach if you hire a coach and they give you instructions if they give you a action items to do a plan and you don't implement you actually do the work it doesn't matter. What kind of coach you have. You have to actually follow through. So i know this kind of obvious but a lot of people i've met along the way have hired coaches and ask them. How's it working out like not so great as it will. What does the coach advising you to do. All of they're telling me to do xyz. We'll have you done xyz and they're like a not really not sure. If i should and that really is the biggest red flag for me when it comes to hiring a coach. Don't go down the road of hiring a coach if you're don't a hundred percent trust this coach and believe what they say you should do is worth doing because the whole point of hiring coaches saying. Hey i'm allowing somebody else to advise me on how to move forward. And i'm willing to do what i need to do to make. It happen very similar in sports. You know one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time is phil jackson. He coached michael. Jordan scottie pippen but he also coached the lay kobe bryant shaquille o'neal a lotta great players but these players would not be great would not achieve their level of excellence if they didn't allow themselves to be coached if they allow themselves to follow through. And do what the coaches asking them to do.

"I know that a lot of people listening in manhattan or the bronx or brooklyn right. Now are saying okay. Enough of the nineties bowls. I know they beat the knicks at every. Turn and michael jordan dropped. I think he dropped fifty seven one night and madison square garden. But hear me out. This is not the story about the ninety s bowls. This is a story and microcosm piece of evidence of the disturbing trend. We are living through right now which we call critical race theory. We call it critical race theory. You can call it. Whoa chasm you could call it the new racial construct you'd call it equity this example with scotty. Pippin is the perfect example. Where you have a multi decade friendship between scottie. Pippen and phil jackson. They win six championships together. Led by michael jordan. Horace grant was on the team for a couple of years and they recruited dennis rodman for the last couple of years who played for the pistons. Probably the best sports team ever assembled. I would love anyone to try to tell me otherwise. They went six in the nineties on six championships every time they went to the finals but the new way of viewing problems and this is the way we are training. Our students to look at issues is to immediately seek racial conflict. Not look at other motives not look at other potential prerequisites. So he looks at this. What instance and dan. Patrick was a very good interviewer and was very fair. Sometimes dan patrick can be all over the place. That's a different segment for a different time or dan. Patrick said hold on scott. You said that this was racially motivated. What if phil jackson's actions such as giving the final shot. Toni kukoc who he made by. The way could have been described by other factors. What if coach had the hot hand which he did. What if phil jackson. One of the you scottie. Pippen as a decoy. Which he did. They are infinite potential explanations or why this decision twenty-six years ago was made so. Why now scotty. why now. When you're being interviewed by. Dan patrick you have to come over with your massive afro. And you looks like look like you're on four hours of sleep promoting bourbon. Do all of a sudden have to say that. Phil jackson is actually david duke. Is that the way we have to now. View the nineties bowls. The nineties bowls was actually being held hostage by nathan bedford forrest. Is that the argument. That scottie pippen is now making not to mention phil. Jackson went on to go win five titles with kobe bryant with shaquille o'neal and kobe kobe bryant and the entire los angeles lakers. Probably the most -ccomplish te basketball coach outside of john wooden in history. So why now scottie pippen. We'll because this is why scottie. Pippen has always been a bitter person. This pains me to say. I love the ninety s bowls. And i've always given scottie. Pippen hall pass scottie. Pippen has never put an ultimate purpose above himself. He delayed a late season surgery at the last final championship. Run in the six year over the summer. He delayed it intentionally. Because you wanted to enjoy the summer and michael jordan even said that was a mistake. Remember this in cut fifty eight. This news report is when scottie pippen refused to play the last one point. Eight seconds of a tied playoff game because you got upset at the coach. Cut fifty eight. Why was bowls all star team. Leader scotty pippin. On the bench at the crucial climax of last night's showdown with new york phil jackson believes got pippen's defection with a combination of a number of frustrating incident leading up the patrick ewing's game-tying basket with less than two seconds. Left in the game the bulls call a time out and designed the flavor. Toni kukoc gotti pippen refused to go back in instead he went to the end of the bench hitting a second time out and new coach made the shot. Look scotty pippin is a bitter person and the critical waste grace theory. The woke the equity way of viewing the world empowers bidder people and it suffocates gratitude. Instead of scottie pippen saying you know. I made millions of dollars and i was underpaid but i signed that contract. I made right by my family but we won six titles. We won gold medals. We are the top of the world instead he decides to play into bitterness. Scotty can finally be important again by playing the victim and attacking his wonderful coach. Who nothing but decent scottie. Pippen and understanding and patient with his childlike attitude the garbage of critical race theory and how it trains people to think will destroy every single black and white relationship in this beautiful country. Scottie pippen use the defend phil jackson and honor him but now he's empowered to call. The leader of the greatest team ever assembled the worst thing. You can call somebody a racist. And if it can happen between scottie. Pippen and phil jackson. It'll happen between every single white and black friendship and relationship in america. We say they're trying to divide us. They are and use this as an example. If they can divide the nineties bowls they can divide our entire mation. This is an example of what we are teaching our children. "That doesn't sound like a crisis. That sounds like something we should approach with prudence and practical judgment and wisdom. The next round of lockdowns are coming. Do not let them do it again. Don't let them shut down your schools. Don't let them put forward a new mandate instead. We need massive public demonstrations of civil disobedience. And that includes you. Okay i want to get to the scottie. Pippen story so a lot of you know that i am a big nine thousand. Nine hundred ninety s chicago bulls fan specifically michael jordan fan of phil jackson fan. The last dance which was on netflix and espn was probably one of the greatest documentaries ever made. Something always bothered me about scottie. Pippen and how he was portrayed in the censio is kind of seemed like a bitter jerk. He always seemed to be not part of the team player. Deep down he thought he almost had the talent and the skill of michael jordan. This was portrayed in many different ways throughout the throughout the documentary. So scottie pippen came out in an interview with dan patrick the other day and all of a sudden called phil jackson the head coach of the chicago bulls from the nine hundred ninety s a racist and was all around this specific incident. Or instance of scottie. Pippen not getting the last shot in one of the years. That michael jordan took off to go play for the chicago white sox. Many people know this michael jordan went and played for the chicago white sox for a couple years just to clear his head won. Three championships took a couple years off. And then won three championships. After that. i'm gonna play cut sixty two. This is dan. Patrick asking scottie pippen. Do you think phil. Jackson was a racist scottie. Pippen says i don't have a problem with that. He says phil jackson was absolutely a racist. And what's so important about. This story is not just how disappointed. I am in scottie. Pippen and not just how alarming this is about how we are now seeing friendships and bonds and teams deteriorate under this new racial obsession in craze with so fascinating this how the media is now piggybacking and almost encouraging the piling on phil jackson who very well might be the least racist person ever to coach a national basketball team. Let's play cut sixty two or would. Tony was a rookie last shot. And you've put me amounts. That's what i mean racial like. That was scotty pippin stain but but met bunt pays to be. Mvp that you're right because you by saying a racial move. Then you're you're calling. Fill a racist. Got a problem with that. Do you think phil was or is. Oh yeah oh yeah. Of course scottie. Pippen says of course phil. Jackson was a racist. You see the new way of viewing problems in two thousand twenty one america and they're talking about something i think happened in nineteen ninety four. I was one years old. The new way of viewing problems is too. I see if any racial attitudes could be blamed for the suffering or the injustice the inequality. This is a very important point the way we are training our children and the way we are encouraging our celebrities to view. Anything you don't like is to blame racism. This right here is critical race theory at work. You want to see this theory. That's being taught your children. All of a sudden example of it scottie. Pippen calling his coach his beloved coach from the nineteen nineties that he's always had nothing but positive things to say to say. You know what all this bitterness. I feel i know who to blame the white man. I'm gonna go blame the six foot eight white coach. Who is coaching us all these years. That's him it. That's actually who i want to blame. You see. this is a new way to view and process events. It's overly simplified and incredibly misleading. Instead of scottie pippen saying you know what maybe. Toni kukoc coach. Who made the shot by the way. Got the shot. And i was used as a decoy. I'm going to instead create racial division and disharmony when there is none instead. I am going to say that. The nineteen ninety s really phil jackson was leading the kkk. His best his friendship with dennis rodman was a farce. The fact that our team was our starting lineup was a majority. Black lineup was a total lie..
Scottie Pippen Accuses Phil Jackson of Being Racist
"Retired NBA star Scottie Pippen says retired La Laker and Chicago Bulls coach Phil Jackson is a racist. Why do you recall that pivotal playoff game when Michael Jordan was playing baseball in the Chicago Bulls still did? Well, their star now with Scottie Pippen and a pivotal point in the game, Phil Jackson called a play for a white player named Tony Ku coach. And Scottie Pippen was so angry he refused to go on the court. Remember that people later on, apologize for and let the team down yada, blah, etcetera. He now says Phil Jackson made his decision because wait for it. Phil Jackson is

"Any defense the way he can because he's such an elite athlete. Then were getting the best of paul george and by the way. Let's not be giving him out because he's played the most minutes of anybody in the playoffs. If fatigue is somehow the reason that we get these up and down performances. His first quarter was as bad quarter. His third quarter was his best quarter. If i'm going to have an issue with fatigue. I would think it would happen in the second half rather than at the beginning of the game. Scottie pippen's got a book out. I don't think he would have written it without the documentary by michael jordan. It feels like a lot of grievances. It feels like cable political television where it's just grievance grievance grievance whereas i think jordan's documentary was celebrating. What was great and rocky and tough about the dynasty. There's claims now from scotty that the final shot coach did it was racial with phil jackson. What's your reaction to that. Is the book called axe to grind. Was that the title of the it should have been. That's scotty is the idea. That phil jackson's decision to have a toni. Kukoc take the last shot in a game. I mean at the time nobody looked at it. Well that's a curious decision. Why dissing scotty like that was like yeah. I could see why he would do that. Because tony is the better knockdown shooter in the last situation like that. So and by the way did he not. Yeah he made the shot. so what are we. What are we talking about. Why are we read shooting this at this point. Here's here's the one thing i will tell you. Is that at that time and with scotties era of of nba players. The belief was that the rise of european players was the nba's way of maintaining a certain percentage of white players in the league. The us american born white players weren't making it very very minimal number and the belief was among players in the nba. At the time. Was that the reason. The euros were gaining popularity and traction was because it allowed the league to maintain a certain number of white players in it. So i don't know if that thought that whether you believe it or not. That theory is informed. Some of what scotty was saying. But i mean let's face it whether he's saying that phil was racist toward kobe or dotty. There was never any indication now. Phil could be selfish. Fill could be like i want to do. What's best for me. But i always got the sense that fills decisions were based on. How do i. How do i win how to maintain my championships and nothing beyond that. I've just there was never a glimmer and all the time that i covered phil jackson. It was in l. A. or chicago that i ever got the sense that there was ever a decision made based on race ric. In Latest Twitter Confrontation, Kevin Durant Claps Back at Scottie Pippen
"Interview got posted. And like 11. Minutes later, Cady had tweeted at Scottie Pippen twice. And he went there. He went right to Scott. He's two biggest weaknesses. Scotty's biggest weakness is not that he was robbing that he was the second best player on historically great teams. That's not a weakness. Scottie Pippen is a first ballot Hall of Fame top 50 all time player who have anything I think is under appreciated as an all time great His two weaknesses are the 1.8 seconds when he didn't go in the game when Phil draws up a play for KU coach. And then the fact that they should, and they showed this in last dance that he chose to get surgery at the start of a season rather than during the summer because he was aggravated about his contractual situation. His last year in Chicago, the 97 98 season. All of that was in last dance. And so Kevin Durant tweets about both of those

And he has that type of athleticism and those type of gift that Hey, has superstar potential. I think that Um, I think the problem with the Bulls and the ball in years and the Hoiberg years that they were trying to make him something else. We were trying to make him off facilitated. They're trying to make him get other guys going when the reality reality is the way that he gets guys going is by getting going himself. And Now he's garnering the attention of the entire defense. And now Lowry can miss those open shots that he's getting for him. You know, when Dale Carter could be whatever he is, I'm not even sure he's like a 67. It was a game a game or two ago, It was either Dallas or this last game. What they won, where they was a time out on the floor. Zach was walking to the bench in Billy Donovan met him out a little further onto the floor and was pointing here pointing their Zach was looking right at him and then motioning with his hands there, and then he looked at him and he nodded and he went to the bench. But now all of a sudden, we're divvying up. Who's Pippen? And who is Jordan? First of all, there's on Ly one Pippen in one Jordan here and to say you got to go out and get yourself a Jordan. Greek freak is Piton. It's a horrible analogy. First of all, Pippen is as decorated as anybody in the history of the game Winning championships. Defensive player of the year being all in Ba and Greek freak hadn't won anything yet, but to say he's more like Pippen. Okay, you let me know when you get Jordan there, Richard Because I I'm really interested in that I wouldn't hold my breath for the next Michael Jordan is somehow going to end up with a great free so he could be Scottie Pippen. It's interesting to see people who love for knives, Scottie, pippen apparently has a love, a love of knives, which is an interesting hobby that is spread across incidentally the entertainment and sports industry, which is kind of interesting and who's able to team up with this legend Bob Kramer and do something meaningful to him. "Miss College a little bit. You know. Judd Heathcote had magic, and he didn't stay in college too long couple years. I know you have a relationship with Magic Johnson. What separates magic? I mean he in Los Angeles, he's one of the top business people. There's A. It's where it comes from. He gets upset. If you don't ask is advice, he is a helper. He is a giver. If you ever met anybody quite like him. You know I met magic. The first week I was on campus as a my job. We're in the old house and we put rims on top of the rooms so that people couldn't get in there. They were yet unlock them, and that was my job done. Lock them for urban in you know once. He played in the finals each couple weeks off. He was still living in East Lansing and he'd come back and his workout schedule in August was unbelievable the things he did. It's no surprise to me that he's the business guy that he is in fact I listened to him all the time to last year when we played duke in the elite eight to get to the final four. Magic came into the pre game meal. He gave the pre-game Talk. No problem admitting that I didn't have to pay him for it. It was awesome and you know he's just. One of those guys got an effervescent personality. He he loves the reach out he loves to help people. You know I'm prejudiced because he's our guy, but I'm not sure there's many like urban magic Johnson. Did you ever watch Games on TV, NBA College, and ever steal from other coaches, because Tony Bennett, the great singer has a funny line. He says steal from everybody. It's called research. If you steal from one guy your thief, but steal from everybody, so do you look at coaching with a note pad? Watch a game and go. Oh, I'm going to take that inbounds play. All the time I mean specially in the NBA because you know if you work a Lotta hours, you get home at nine thirty ten thirty at night. You know I usually turn on. Try to catch dre monarch Gary. Harris said Denver some guys that are in the West Coast and You know I think those NBA coaches I mean they're doing it one hundred times a year. You know sometimes they don't get credit. Because, it's more of a players league, but those guys are brilliant and their brilliant I steal from all the time I mean I still every play every audubon splayed, but those those silent bounce plays. They run in league are are really good by the way I have not looked at the preseason. Aren't you a preseason number one? That was last year. We were preseason or this past year. We were the second team calling tell coach Kelly Kentucky we went from. You know rated one to unrated and then at the end of the year. I think we're ready to make a run now next year. Some of the preseason polls where ten twelve team and I think. We're looking at the same thing. Everybody else's looking at who will you have by the end of the summer with the draft, a little bit different and guys going out early and transfers. You know I mean right now as I said, it's pretty moving part. You gotta try to figure out where you'RE GONNA be in August maybe not where you are today. Good senior. You look fantastic How's the weather? My wife's from Michigan, so it's. Getting close to June is at about sixty five degrees there. Hey I came out and visited you last year in the summer. Remember the Fox and. Kim Your area. I think it's time you come to our area here. Visit your wife's family and I'll take you out to the lake dickey golfing. You might have to wear gloves, but other than that it's. Good seeing you, Tom Thanks for coming on the show. Thanks God. We were talking during the Break Lake Charlevoix. My wife keeps trying to talk me into Gordon. The lake charlevoix Michigan Michigan's Beautiful Michigan Beautiful. The Michigan's like Washington state where I grew up to trees got water everywhere Michigan grownup you did my grandparents lived in Detroit so? You had a lot of places I've. I've had some interesting I got some interesting stories. Joy Taylor with the news. This is the heard line news report out that the cowboys offered Dak Prescott a five year, one hundred and seventy five million dollar contract that Dak turned down for the cowboys nine, according to Ian Report both A-team index agents say two sides have never discussed the discuss a scenario like this. The sticking point is still the length of the contract. Act wants a shorter deal and the cowboys want A. Cowboys want Jamal Adams, but they can't. They can't get him unless the deck. Did the franchise. Well, that's July fifteenth. That's the that's the deadline for the for the for the contract negotiation. That will never end. I I don't know. I mean why. Where would this information come from? If it's never been discussed Internet? Just made it up well. I just saw the jet, so they don't want to trade him, but then it's funny how I know. The jets WANNA first, and the third, so the Internet's giving me two stories, which means. If, it's out on the Internet what you will. Accept for player then you're willing to take a phone. Call right right so. That it's happening or Maybe. They took the phone call, and then they were like. Yeah, that's not gonNA work, but if a, if a team, let's it out. We'll take I on the third. They'll take the phone call again like I I. I'm still on the side that deserves to be paid, but I this again. I'm sorry to reach this point where it's like. All right. Maybe it's just exhaustion about talking about it. I'm exhausted I know you're exhausted. I'm reaching exhaustion, but I just think that he should get at either way. I think you should take the deal all right so Scottie Pippen is reportedly beyond livid with Michael for the way. He was portrayed in the last dance. He said he is. He is said to be angry that he was called Selfish and that many less than flattering stories about him are featured in the documentary. He's also furious that he agreed to participate in the dark because he didn't really know what he was getting himself into. A first of all I study looks bad at all I mean. This. I, don't I don't get him him bailing and not wanting to go in because. Is Bad not the end of the world. I think Rodman looks way worse. If you have six rings, you can live with that. What is the issue everyone on earth? That Michael would not be as successful as he was without Scottie Pippen. Michael said it himself. At the beginning of the documentary spoke glowingly of Scottie Pippen. I don't feel any different about Scotty pippin than I did before the documentary anyone I? Think Rodman Pool is out there that saying these things this is. This is what I wonder when this comes up like who's mad at Scotty, Pippin, a couple on twitter, who is? I don't feel any differently about Scotty, pippin. I don't love that. He bailed on teammates. Mohei, but so that happens. It's not like Scotty Pippin. So selfish selfish player. No, not at all. I don't think anyone played alongside Michael. Jordan was selfish. Plays defense like Scotty is not selfish. Selfish guys don't plan the defense events. Scottie Scottie gave twenty five points on the offensive end law tonight and he played real defense, so it wasn't was selfless. Physically he would give you. Everything had both ends I just. Where is this coming? Like who are these people that are have flipped on Scottie Pippen I. Don't think it looked. Looked that the only person I think it looked bad on was was Jerry Krause now think Jerry Krause did himself any favors, and I think for the most part. It looked so bad on Jerry Krause that. Most people are kind of China. Tone it down like okay, but he also did put together a team that why nobody goes championships I. Don't think anyone got. Demolished in this, my policy is if I know someone like I. Truly know someone I do not get angry at them for doing what I know that they habitually do right. We know Michael is a grudge holder. We know he has a chip on his shoulder still to this day, and he is extremely competitive, and we knew this was going to be about Michael Jordan, did anyone? Anyone have any other like any confusion at all about what this was really going to be about. What do you mean you didn't know what you're getting yourself into? It's your story. You know what your story is. If you decided to documentary open documentary about your life, calling and a story came out in in the documentary that was slightly less unflattering about you. Would you.

Jerry Krause remanded him Gary. Payton's mattered Carl. Malone's mad at him. Everybody is mad at him. You, know he beat him I. Get it but Scotty Pippin I don't get Scottie Pippen is beyond livid at Jordan. I A trail in the last dance. We'll will. Timeout. The documentary. Scottie Pippen unraveled. In Houston. He unravelled the two years in Chicago. They asked him to lead the team. Okay! The documentary never mentioned the gun charge. He had ninety four they they never mentioned. In Chicago Michael Jordan who doesn't give out. Compliments is quoted saying the documentary quote. He helped me so much in the way I approached the game in the way I played the game whenever they speak Michael Jordan. They should speak Scottie Pippen. Jordan declared I didn't win without pippen, and that's why I consider them my best teammate of all time. I've never heard Michael Give anybody a compliment like that. And three. The too low points in the doctor pippen he created. He admitted he wouldn't go into a game double down on it. When asked do you regret it? He goes no I. Do it again. What with perspective would refuse to go into a game? Because you didn't have a play design for you, and secondly he acknowledged his words. He delayed surgery. because. He wanted to have fun in the summer. Until his team under the bus. Those are pippen's words. Michael Jordan said the nicest thing I've ever heard Michael. Say about another player. I mean literally said. He helped me so much in the way. I played an approach the game. I didn't win without pippen. It's Jordan never said that about anybody so what Scott is Scottie pippen is buried pippen. This Scotty is what most professional athletes are super talented, but a two to one. To be the man to be the leader to be the guy to be the president Scotties Vice President, and he was a great one, arguably the greatest ever, but the minute the Bulls needed him to lead and him to deal with the media. It didn't work. It worked for about six months the second year he unraveled. He went to Houston. They asked him to be demand. He unraveled. They asked him in Portland to be the man he wasn't Rasheed. Wallace was the best player I liked pippen. I've interviewed him. I like him I think he's the best vice president ever. But to be the man you have to do the media crap. I practiced last to leave. You gotTA. You gotta deal with the GM. You gotta deal with the coach. You have to lead the game plan. You have to communicate with other players and you gotTa make great decisions. Scott, he's got a history of making some really poor decisions and he's playing the victim here. I mean I like him, but there's no way Scotty can be mad at Jordan for this Jordan gave him the nicest compliment. I ever seen him. Give a player. He basically said I. Don't want anything without pippen. As Michael Ever acknowledged that ever about anything. I don't think he talks about Phil Jackson. So I just talked about this earlier. Seventy five percent of people would rather flip a coin and make a decision to study came out on that. When you're the man and he was for two years in Chicago, he had to make really big decisions. And he made a lousy ones. He made really bad ones, and then he refused to get a surgery. WHO's that on? I think it's totally unfair to blame. Michael for this I. Don't think Scottie can play the victim and for the record I. Don't think he comes out looking terrible in it. I don't think he's a villain. In it I think he looks like a guy who is really good. Mike loved him played. Hurt was an intrical part much more important than Rodman I think Rodman stature has always been overplayed. I think pippen comes across as the second most important bull that that Michael loved. What that's exactly the truth. Who made some really bad decisions? When they gave him the baton on the team, he's to not a one. That's okay leaderships hard. They're very few Russell. Wilson's out there. There are very few guys that can just put it on my back. I'm twenty five I'm going to run the thing. Not a lot of guys can do that and I think. Michael was uniquely equipped to handle that because his parents were so great, then he got Dean Smith then he got David Falk. then. He Got Phil Jackson. He had some of the great leaders in individual he had the best college basketball coach, the best agent, the best pro coach, an unbelievable parents. He had so many great examples of how to lead I. Think it made Michael a very good leader? Tough but a very good leader. Perhaps Scotty didn't have as many great leadership examples, but you can't blame 'em. J. For Scott decisions joy with the news. On the news. This is the headline news. Ego. Eagles in guys in Ego. Crazy right. I didn't say anything. Though Patrick Mahomes a set to get a record breaking deal when he sciences next contracts, chiefs owner Clark. Hunt said that they will begin contract negotiations with homes on an extension this summer, and both sides of made it clear that they want home to be a chief for life. Hope, so yeah I. think that's good so just when we finish Dak Prescott negotiate the differences. This won't be wrapped up really quick, and it will would imagine so But? I I mean I. Don't think that. The chiefs are going to be tough in negotiating with with Mahomes, but he is entering his fourth year of his rookie deal sets accounts of two for five point three million against the salary cap with eight hundred and twenty five thousand dollars as his base salary now it should be noted though Kansas. City deserves credit. This is where they were smart, so they had a rookie deal and they went out and spent on weapons. They made trades so Kansas City. Did it the right way and they were rewarded so Kansas City, okay, we. We can't said he deserves credit. They moved up to get him right they. They developed in very quickly with Andy Reid kept Alex Smith on gave him weapons while he was cheap and won a super bowl with him so now I have no problem mahomes going to the bank and getting what he's got get. I had no problem with Russell Wilson's deal. I got no problem with Mahomes deal at all. When you take advantage of these rookie deals are really they're kind of incredible. I mean the fact that he's making eight hundred twenty five thousand dollars as his base salary more Jackson ten million. Have you noticed how many players the the Ravens can bring in now to support Lamar? It's incredible. Total is Lamar. MVP Yes superbowl winner. League MVP so this is where I'm for the player getting. Patrick Mahomes did all you could ask him. A hero in the forming who who could ever have asked. Him I'm not anti player when I when I think DAX overpaid linen. Mahomes Russell Wilson pay the man. That's when you pay the man well kind of unfair to compare dot Prescott to Patrick Mahomes. Obviously Patrick Mahomes was picked much higher than Dak Prescott. He didn't have these expectations. Obviously, but yeah he is. He's the rumors are that he could be the first two hundred million dollar contract which I don't think anyone would have a problem again. Want everyone to get paid because look I'm not paying. Anybody says matter to me, but you're right. They maximize his contract and it's so if they do end up having a lot. significant less flexibility because they have to pay Patrick Mahomes. I think that's something that you can. You can live with in that situation, so boxing hopes to be the next sport to start back up promoter Bob Arum says that he plans to have a five fight card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on.
Horace Grant defends Scottie Pippen, questions specific aspects of 'The Last Dance'
"Thing about horse Horace was not just based on his own behalf he was pissed for Scotty Pippen is well because aside from Jordan giving some praise to paper early in the series most of the talk about Pippin was about all these low moments I remember being hold on call the number two guy decorated it's gotten papers put three so badly in terms of the moderate in terms of the one point six or seven seconds Selfridge I I have never seen this and all of my life in the respect of people out there I think games six could barely walk do not down on his back try to do whatever he could to help the team but my my my point is while I was at one point sixty seven seconds in the documentary so called documentary about it will be with only eighteen while they're in there we handle that very year really well as a team he he was wrong for doing that well you're still we went after the game we'll do it up there we have to say bill car right and then we handle it was over it was over we go on the techniques to seven games told me it was over why bring that up that's my question everybody out there is listening it's always grant and it's a fair question if this series is about the final season the so called last dance why was something from four years earlier included something that Jordan was not even therefore he was out playing baseball that didn't concern him he was on that team as Horace said the team handle it in the paper knew it was wrong even though people did say if the documentary that he would not change anything anyway if this was about Michael Jordan's version of the final season why was something that did not involve Michael Jordan why was that given so much time in the dock why was it so important to Jordan to bring up the lowest point of Pippen's career and if you want to say yeah well because that was important believe me he left out a lot of important things so why was it important to him to put that in there

America, that was on that beat, so OJ is now joining us, so let's start with this J of this. Are Scottie Pippen feels wounded I covered him a portland. I thought he was talented, but at times moody and Immature I think it's been fair. How was it landed for you with Scottie Pippin? I'd think it's been fair. It's been the ups and downs. Their greatness has guy pippen the improbable rise from Hamburger Arkansas. It's one of the elite basketball players in the history of the game and. Yes the Moody Moments, the Tantrum, want to call it that one point eight seconds the Migraine game seven, but also I think you. You got a sense for the heroics the way he got it through that game six in one, thousand, nine, hundred, ninety eight, when his back was deteriorating on them the way he played that season on on a surgically a rehab ankle all the stuff that he was going through. I thought it presented a good balance. Scottie Pippen Maybe none of us would be happy if our flaws were presented on national television. Six million people a week. We wouldn't be happy with that, but I thought he saw the good and the bad of Scotty now there is the mythology of Michael Six 6-for-6 six. Everybody says Michael Goes Bring me back for a seven tidal. And I'm like. There's a saying I was told years ago. Always leave a party early. Never leave it late. I think the Bulls at the end Jay and you covered him. They were old. I think at times. They were offensively one dimensional like I think they laughed at the perfect time. The Spurs Dynasty was starting up. You're covering, you know. I don't think they would have won the following year Du. They went outside. I think they deserve the chance to fall or succeed on their own merits. I think the one argument in their favor. was there really wasn't a great team? Ready to take it from them, you know the spurs wound up having a long term success, but at that point Tim Duncan was in a second or third year in the League so I'm not sure he would have been able to stand up against the season. Experience Bulls the. The Lakers were too young inexperienced, even though they were very talented, there was nobody in the east, and the jazz were starting to fall out privacy. They didn't make it back to the finals that next year, so it really would have been about whether the Bulls could have sustained in. That's the great unknown. We've seen how difficult it was for the warriors to essentially try to win three row. If you say they were a few minutes from winning in in. Two Thousand Seventeen Twenty sixteen. They basically had a chance at three appoint Roe, but then you saw that that fourth year it all fell apart right with with durant, going down and then. Klay Thompson going down so it's a to ask that group to stay healthy for another year to stay motivated for another ever been asking a lot, but I think they deserve the opportunity, and it would have been about them not about the competition. You know there's a lot of people that say Jerry Krause was unfairly blamed for stuff. I think it lands pretty accurately I didn't cover the team and I had heard so many Jerry Krause stories. I do think Phil. Jackson comes off as so smart and so refined and this balancing Rodman Krause. Let's address krause. You've covered the team now. You told me last time when you call Jerry. He called you back. Have we been a little harsh on Jerry or you know Steve Cursor during the documentary, J.. He said the guy couldn't get out of his own way. Where do you land on Krause? And I told you he he didn't cultivate any allies. He had no one on his side. No one to really tell his story in the media while he was a general manager of the Bulls, he was so distrustful of the media entirely that he didn't give himself a chance. He didn't find someone to help sell his side. And even Scottie comes around at the end of the documentary. It says you have to give him credit I. Think Jerry was wrongfully kept out of the hall of fame longer than he should of. He should've gone in before he Jerry Reinsdorf went into the hall of fame. It went in in the opposite order and. REINSDORF should had more blame if people wind ranstorp cross along I, think he kept him around because krause got all the the blame. REINSDORF'S SORTA skated free. REINSDORF also could play the good cop sometimes, but I think if you look at all the issues here. You know it all has to go and start with the owner. Right and one of the great revelations out of this was the fact that riser called Phil Jackson after. Do you want to come back for another year? But by then it was too late Jay Don Day director of sports.

Pippen quitting flat out quitting on the Chicago Bulls during the nineteen ninety-four playoffs against the New York Knicks. For those who didn't see it or don't remember. The score was tied. One point. Eight seconds left the Bulls are already down to zero in the series. The whole season is on the line. Phil Jackson draws up a play For the final shot for Tony. Coup coach with Scottie. Pippin inbounding the basketball pippen at this point a three time. Champion cuco coach at this point a rookie pippen. I rate in the moment decide simply to sit down on the bench. Not Check into the Game Phil Jackson says. Hey man are you in our out. Scotty says I'm out. Phil has to replace him. What do you know Toni? Kukoc coach hits the shot making Scottie. Pippen look basically as bad as possible in that particular moment The fallout was pretty swift. Bulls teammates upset. Bill Cartwright in the locker room gives a tearful speech about how Scotty let everyone down. Steve Kerr is trying to wrap his mind around. This idea. That pippin has acted so out of character and the biggest moment of the season. And you know the initial fallout from not perspective. Wasn't horrible. They regrouped They won game. Four Pippen played pretty well. They pushed the series to seven games but ultimate they ultimately they lost. But this situation absolutely lingered with Scottie. Pippen in no small part because the words Quinton and pippen nearly rhyme and everyone was able to figure that out Michael so now that we're twenty six years removed from that incident. I want to just ask you. First off with Scottie. Pippen in the right was he definitely wrong. Was He. Guilty of a basketball sin. That will follow him forever. What's your take on that incredible? See so yeah. I haven't seen the episode yet so I don't know exactly how in depth they went into it but I mean my take on. This is that. There's a human element here. That's understandable Scottie. Pippen and like if you're him you're underpaid forever Jordan finally leaves. You're still underpaid. You're making I went back and was reading about this game and kind of the the setting of what was happening with the Bulls and Scotty at the time and he was making half as much as Tony Coach. And so this guy who plays the same position as you is an import from Croatia and Phil. Jackson picks him to get the last shot. And so I understand why Scottie. Pippen is frustrated and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. I would imagine in his brain and he just broke a fruit. And it's just it's it's it's understandable. I mean it's also inexcusable. And not what you see every day from frustrated basketball players who have to deal with things in in every game you know but I see where he's coming from. I don't think it's the biggest deal of all time. It's a little unprofessional. But when I think of Scottie Pippen I don't think of this game at all. Very interesting Well I think of the titles I for sure and I'm trying to imagine what would have happened. Had he done this Before ever winning a title and how much that would have stuck to them. I mean I think he even got some flack from the migraine game against the Pistons. Which to me. It's like you can't hold that against him. I mean he's he's honestly. I consider that an injury but this is like a willful choice. Right and what's fascinating is the power dynamics back then right because as we know in the modern MBA if superstars doesn't like the play. It's not just. I'm going to sit down on the bench all the the the opportunities that he has to either change the play have a discussion Ultimately try to bend the reality towards his side and we saw that happen in the two thousand fifteen playoffs when Lebron James scratched a last second play by David Blatt in a very similar situation changes things up so he's not going to be the inbounder he's the one who gets to receive the pass. He drains the game winning shot and then to just really rub it into his coach who he clearly didn't really respect trust. He winds up getting on the podium and telling everyone what he did that that he scratched the play in that basically wanted him to inbound the ball and boy what an idiot blad is was sort of the main takeaway from that scene. So I think to me one of the the biggest lessons of the pippen experiences that it was kind of a product of its time. You know like you're mentioning. The salary stuff is really important. Not only was he not really making that much money but he was on a long term contract right. He had no leverage whatsoever if he was upset What was he really going to do about it? And I think with the modern superstar players not only are they making ten times what Scottie Pippen made but they also have shorter term contracts and they also often have player options right so there's constantly that threat of a player leaving so you have to keep them happy. I guess my point is Phil Jackson and the Bulls didn't need to cater every single situation to Scotty. Because ultimately they were in a position to take him for granted right. Now I mean that's one hundred percent correct and the differences between Scottie. Pippen and Phil Jackson and Lebron David. Bladder are just kind of obvious. I mean Phil Jackson's coming off three straight titles. As a head coach. He cemented himself as a local legend and when he says when he draws up a play. Chances are it's it's for a particular reason and Toni. Kukoc did hit the shot and they and they won the game. They're second in a row. They're dropping game one. I believe in that series so for sure I mean. Let's let's dig into that part because this play not that great. I mean as a really tough shot. Recoup coach hits it right and like it's a masterful shot by him but he and he had a couple Game winners or lay lay game shots that season for the Bulls but from a percentage basis pippen was a more efficient shooter than Cuco. She was a more experienced player. He'd been in a lot of bigger moments in the NBA. Anyways the first postseason for coach. I think it was his sixth overall game ever in the playoffs so I guess I'm coming back to your original point. Was you know pippen had a lot of justify reasons to be upset with that decision? Right and Do you understand where Phil was coming on this thing at all like? Why was this his idea? Do you have any idea? No I mean I was literally about to ask you. The exact same question has did fill in the dock. Explain why he went with coach? Did he even address the situation more on a XS and OS level than an emotional level? And because like I would imagine that it's like I have Scotty. The defense knows that we're going to go to Scotty. Pippin here and Tony coaches a perfect kind of I guess he's the diversion that Scott. We are in a better position. If we have Scottie pippen the diversion and we go to Tony. Who's capable of hitting a big shot? And so it's kind of just an unexpected move. That would be my guess as to what fills mentality was at the time. I don't know though did did they go into it. And the duck. No he didn't really address it. I think that I mean one defense would be pippen's your best passer. So he's your inbounder. And so the best possible combination of passer and shotmaker would be ping and coach if you try to have pitted the shotmaker. Maybe you have a `laisserpasser inbounding the ball. It could have also been the fact that coach it hit some shots earlier in the season that gave Phil confidence in him. Also been that Just a surprise element you know. Maybe York's knock bearing for coach to have the ball now moment. I mean there's a couple of different explanations I mean it could have also been a zen mastermind game on pip. I mean who knows right like there's that legendary aspect too of like what was bill thinking but I wanna Kinda return this idea of like. How much has changed between then? And now? Because as you mentioned you know Phil has established himself as an icon. At that point. He's already won three titles They have this big over achieving season without Jordan. So like the Phil Jackson myth making is really going full bore and same deal for Scotty. I mean he was third in. Mvp voting that year had an incredible season fifty five winds. And that's no joke and so I think there aren't very many coaches in the modern. Mba Right now. Who would have the same level of security as Phil Jackson back then? Like how many guys do you think are even kind of in a comparable position where they would be able to go away from their star player in a big moment? I mean Gregg. Popovich comes to mind May maybe doc rivers. I mean he's got a couple of guys you could go to but still I really feel like Hawaii. Take just about every shot ducks not an idiot. Right lesson our thing too is that catering to star players has become good business for coaches right. Because they're just getting fired left and right constantly so they've sort of got that message loud and clear. But how many coaches do you think are kind of in that spot to pull a fill not a lot? I mean the thing with like it's the contrast here of just wanting to utilize your star player but then as we've talked about earlier like the fact that the star player has the leverage so even though Doc rivers has enormous clout he's an enormously high respect level around the League Kawhi Leonard. Paul George are have constructed their contracts so that they could bounce it any point so they they have the maximum leverage. I mean it. That's just kind of what the League is today? So I mean some coaches that. Come TO MIND. I guess like Erik Spoelstra. Probably it makes me think of the situation recently with the Celtics and Brad Stevens and Kyrie Irving when he was there and that Buck Series. And it's not the exact same thing of you know going back to just one end of game situation but Brad Stevens probably should have benched. Kyrie Irving in that series just because of how ridiculously out of control. He was in a lot of ways and he didn't for whatever reason and so I mean I think when I save whatever reason the the reason is that they want to resign every irving and keep Kyrie irving happy. The reason is that amorphous politics right now. Everybody always calls it the politics of benching. Kyrie in that moment Did Not favour even guy as well respected as Brad Stevens. Yeah one hundred percents. So there's just there's not a lot of coaches here. I mean we're about to talk about some some quitters throughout NBA history. That come to mind and Rick Carlisle. That's another coach. That could probably get away with some things because he has the championship. But like it's just it's really. It's a really short shortlist. I can't think of really any other names for sure. Like the coaching. Salaries have increased as well since the ninety S. No question right. But they haven't increased as fast as the players salaries and I think that the the fact that players have done these team up scenarios that were in the player empowerment era where your entire organization hinges on a guys mood. Right has basically have all sorts of ramifications inside effects. I mean this idea that you would ever want your best player to be pouting because of something your coach did is like now anathema. Right like that's just not acceptable and it is just a very different environment than what pippen was living through back. Then I do want to return to that. Popovich example real quick and I mentioned this in my Washington Post newsletter on this subject encourage everyone to go read it so. Popovich had very interesting. Lay game situation..
Steve Kerr Doesn't Agree with Michael Jordan on Scottie Pippen's 1997 Surgery
"More fallout from the last dance in the second episode Sunday Michael Jordan was critical of Scotty Pippen's decision to put off foot surgery do just before the ninety seven ninety eight season George said Pippen put off the surgery to put pressure on the bulls to redo his contract but Steve Kerr on ESPN yesterday denied there was any resentment towards Pippen among his
How the Warriors stack up against Jordan's Bulls
"Everybody in the free world. Watch the last dance the other night. It appears Draymond. Green did too and draymond green went on a podcast yesterday. uninterrupted W RT s after. Show party with Paul Rivera and Maverick Carter. No less And he likened their last season with Kevin Durant the warriors to what he had just watched on. Tv with the last season of the Bulls and he didn't hold back and he said one of the things from watching it. Was that what you saw? Is everybody kind of set it up like this is going to be the last year and so there was none of that elephant in the room hanging out there for their team That last warriors team with Durant and said that you know. Steve tried to deal with it but Kevin was asked about it every day. Dream on saying I want to be a warrior for Life Klay say and I want to be a warrior for life and then there was this elephant in the room the entire year and it was almost as if he watched the last dance and thought Jeez They handled that a lot. Better like hanging out there the whole year. Everybody knew that was going to be the end and so they just treated it that way the whole year. What you guys think. I mean ownership didn't handle it better. The player of the players may have the players may have handled it at worst. And Scottie Pippen you know getting the surgery when he did wanting out you know Jordan thinking was selfish but ownership on the warriors side of things. At least their goal is building with sustainability. They WANNA keep steph curry and Klay Thompson and continue winning. Reisen Dorf in Krause and the Bulls were ready to pull the plug after the first three championships. Trying to trade pippen for camp granted that still a win but then after it it's about China. Tear Down Arriba. I don't see that from the warriors now but it is fascinating. How much history has repeated in some ways with the disease of more and whatnot that manifested with Katie? Always being jealous of steph curry in the spotlight that he received and you look at what the Bulls went through in the nineties. I it is hard to see the parallels from the players side. We think I didn't see it. I just think Jerry mind was a I think he was a little narcissistic with it is totally different situation. Durant in that situation is basically the Rodman character. Rodman was on the Bulls for three years. Durant shows up for three years pushes him to another level but other I mean the bulls thing was so different Jordan and pippen were together for you know twelve years and there were Phil Jackson for. I don't know it was at least nine or whatever and everything was the same and they were just going going going and they had all these different ups and downs and that warriors thing you know they durant was on that team for blip was if you add up when when he actually showed up and then when he left. It's less than three years. It's like thirty months It's not a perfect comparable for for either team. But I do think you know the players you know seeking that attention. Wanting what's there's at I think with that aspect there's some similarities but overall though I mean I'm with you in the sense that ownership in front office objectives here are far different in what the Bulls wanted to do in the nineties with Crowson. Reisen Dorf is far different than what the warriors are trying to do with Myers and and warriors ownership. Now right I mean the differences with the warriors thing. It was one person undermining the whole thing. Durant yeah the Bulls thing it was. It was like a bad marriage with you. Know eight nine different people. All knowing like the marriage is ending and I think with the warriors they kept trying to pull durant back in that second season when he was there was when it started to fall apart in the third season. I still feel like they felt like it might be salvageable until they had that clippers game and then after that I think there are some similarities with the chemistry. Let's say let's say this. Let's say draymond. His way would have played out the way he wanted to write like. I don't buy for one second. If Kevin Durant started that season said this is my last year with the warriors it still would have been a problem like the right here the whole year by the way. He should have done that though. That's how he should have handled it and I think part of the problem is he didn't handle it that way. And you know the players and the team new organization. They knew he was leaving. They knew about all the New York stuff they thought it was gonna be the Knicks but they knew he was leaving. It was by especially by February march ever in the league new so I think from that standpoint underminded what's the elephant in the room. That draymond talking about that. You know what I'm saying if they all had this understanding Kevin. Ain't going to be with US after this year. Then why is he acting like it was a problem throughout the entire year? That Kevin was just saying Oh. I don't know we'll see we'll because I think Kevin probably agree with this. I think there was still hope that he might do a one eighty. You know I I think that. And honestly with the with the ninety eight balls and you're gonNA find out in the tenth part it came a lot closer to everybody coming back except for Rodman I I think they knew Rodman was done but I think once they actually won. I think there was a moment there where they were like Holy Shit. What are we doing? We gotTA defend this again.
Here's What We're Watching During Quarantine
"I've had for years box. Dvd set that celebrates the Chicago Bulls six championships in the nineteen nineties. The title is NBA Dynasty Series Chicago Bulls Real quick takeaways couple takeaways Scottie. Pippen totally underrated. I I mean. I know he's considered a legend and one of the top fifty basketball players all time. But but he's even better than that as far as the goat discussion. Greatest of all time between Jordan and Lebron James. All right I conceded. I think it was a year or so ago that Lebron has probably taken that title. I'm more than willing to be argued that I'm more than willing to be argued wrong as a Chicagoan but one thing is for sure after going through some of these. Dvd's Jordan is so much more fun to watch. I mean he just. He spent so much time doing beautiful things. High up in the air way above Lebron's had would have been so That's just a blast to watch now. You can't this is kind of a sneaky. Pick you can't stream this. Dvd set so. I'll take this occasion as an excuse to mentioned that. Espn's ten part Michael Jordan Doc. The last eight they move that up it was gonNA come out on June nineteenth. Yup the release date is April nineteenth. So obviously I can't wait for that listeners. I can maybe loan you my bulls box set because it isn't streaming but otherwise just look for the last dance this weekend on ESPN. I will be watching it. Yeah I have not seen the set that you are watching but I cannot wait for Sunday night. When the ten part doc starts it's been this mythical thing that's been rumored to be in production or potentially production for some time new house coming out and ESPN wisely bumping that up. I think it's something that a lot of people just like us are going to be watching my number three these fall under the category of blind spots and in this case there is a specific hook to Josh. Though it wasn't by design all explain it's my unofficial slash official. Bruce SURTEES MARATHON. So one day. I realize I'm kind of running out of options in terms of things that are really hooking me on net flicks and I know that there are some things I should get to real cinematic blind spots that have been mentioned on the show over the years that I feel regret about but they just seem heavy. I'm not ready for it yet. I need stuff. That's under two hours. I can knock it out and I needed to be reasonably entertaining but I do still WanNa feel like I'm getting some homework done. I do still want to feel like I've crossed something off my list that I felt for some time that I needed to get to so I went over to Amazon prime. And one of the things that popped up happen to be dirty Harry the first dirty Harry movie with Clint. Eastwood Don Siegel directed and right away. I realized how stylishly shot it was and so after I watched it I looked up who the DP was and I see that. It's Bruce Surtees. I think yeah I know that name. I can't really tell you what else he's done. I don't know much about his history's legacy at all but that is a name I have heard and oh I'll just file that away okay. So what's next? Couple of days later I go back to prime one of the film's POPs up. Lennie the Bob. Fosse directed film about Lenny. Bruce and that really is one for me. I've always been ashamed because I adore. Is You know all that jazz. Fosse's film I like cabaret quite a bit as well and in the TV series Fossey Verdon some of the making of Lenny POPs up in that TV series it. Of course POPs up in all that jazz as well. A lot of cutting to scenes of the fosse alter Ego Joe Gideon cutting the movie. That would become lenny so it was kind of just been a joke for me that I've never watched this film. I decide I'm going to sit. And Watch Lenny and. I'm watching the credits. And whose name POPs up is responsible for the Black and white cinematography. It's Bruce Thirty so then decide okay. Well this is just too convenient too much of a coincidence. We're going to make this happen and I'll give you just a little bit of background on him. Is He a name? That's familiar to you at all Josh. Young familiar with the name. I don't think I would have been able to identify any of his movies though right so he got his start as a camera. Operator working with Don Siegel and especially on Siegel and Clint Eastwood Films in the late. Nineteen sixty so movies like two mules for sister Sarah and Cubans Bluff and then his first role as a cinematographer. As the director of photography was Nineteen. Seventy-one it was the beguiled so that Seagal Directing Eastwood and then play misty for me followed that where he was working with eastward again but this time Eastwood as director that was his debut he died in twenty twelve and if you look at his. Imdb the early two thousands in the nineties were not good to surtees out of maybe twenty. Titles there's not one that really stands out as essential viewing and even at the end of the eighties. The decade closed for surtees with rat boy back to the beach and licensed to drive in the eighties for him was otherwise filled with a lot of eastwood's stuff prior to that so movies like Fire Fox and tight rope and sudden impact even honky. Tonk man his heyday really was the nineteen seventies which brought me to night moves. This is an Arthur Penn. Early Bleak Neo Noir starring Gene Hackman as a former football player turned disillusioned private. I would other type of private. I is there in the seventies and it's all set within the movie business so it's reflexive to in the mode of Altman's the long goodbye and then the one I most recently watched was another Eastwood blindspot. Which is Pale writer?
"scottie pippen" Discussed on Newsradio 970 WFLA
"Former NBA star Scottie Pippen has added a five year old girl to a lawsuit he filed last year against her parents for allegedly defacing, his Florida home with markers, and crayons. Comedian Lindsay Glaser, what never heard of before. I haven't either have you ever heard not Lindsey Glazer and Jacob will lotion stayed in Pippen's home temporarily after their house in Fort Lauderdale was damaged during hurricane Irma. The couple was paying thirty thousand dollars a month in rent allow Pippen filed a complaint in December two thousand eighteen for damage to the property, alleging the couple caused more than one hundred nine thousand dollars in damage. It's like a little bit more than bussing up hotel room. Now. Tire house. But in a may second amended complaint to the case. Pippen said the girl then four years old caused damage to certain elements of the property with markers, and crayons, don't they have markers, and Krantz now for kids, the you can just kind of race. Yeah. Most of them are, I guess these parents didn't give their kid those kinds markers. Delays, or the, the comedian responded with this statement, and I'm quoting here, who would have ever thought that Dennis Rodman would be strengthening relations with North Korea, and Scotty, no tip, and Pippen would be the crazy ones suing little girls. I've never heard of as a comedian comedian good good in the update. Pippen also said the renter's allowed of dog and cat to urinate throughout the home causing permanent stains in unsanitary conditions, and they allegedly stolen knife set. That's not all. Okay. So we had our legal. Correspondent Felix Vega go through this very important lawsuit because why not what exactly did you find? Okay. This was interesting. They didn't know where this was go. First of all, what does it mean to add the five year old to the loss? They're not suing the five year old they're suing is a shame that would have made it better. Probably because I know that's the narrative you wanted out totally what I wanted. So the, the way the lawsuit was filed at separated into several different counts, kind of like a criminal complaint would be. But actually when I was digging through this today. The part the big part of the lawsuit the initial one was actually dismissed for not being specific enough. So that's why I had to go back and refile all this. And add in more details about what exactly crayons the markers. Not only that, I mean, they basically just tore this place apart. Really? Yes. And if you're I lived in Fort Lauderdale, so I knew kind of where the area wasn't. It's like the rich part of town where they have all these inlets and islands where these are very, exclusive very Tony homes. You can pull up your yacht on the back to back door. Kennel Ike Davis island this try like times thirty. Okay. Yeah. It's like Morgan with love it. Yeah. So it's like a very exclusive. And so this house, did he was actually trying to sell the house. And so this woman Glaser and her husband, their their, their house got damaged by hurricane Irma. Sorry. And like you said they put in an insurance claim what their insurance company to get to do the damn the rap repairs on their, their house. In the meantime, they wanted to find someplace else to list. Thirty thousand dollar a month. Yes. And it's three times the size of their home, which is also huge in Fort Lauderdale different. So they live in a big house, but not this big, and somebody must be doing really well between the two of them because she's a comedian nobody's ever heard. She's also a lawyer before that comes on the lawsuit or husbands. And a comedian husbands, the architect what he I, I mean, let's be honest. Sounds like the husband probably does I think they were on their meat because this is you think they were just living yet, maybe on our means in, so basically, it when they went to rent this house, they use their insurance companies basically, there were housing finder, when people are looking for a place to rent with their houses getting repair. Yeah. And they set their sights on Scottie, Pippen's house. That is what Scottie Pippen saying. So not only was it three thousand dollars a month in order to get into the house, after they negotiated everything data having to pay for the first three months rent, which was ninety thousand dollars upfront. Yes. Lamb security, posts fifty thousand dollars. I never even exactly, especially comedian nobody's ever heard of according to the lawsuit, and what's Scottie Pippen and saying that she redirected the money that she was getting paid to fix her hells to pay for the rental. Their house wasn't getting fixed this whole time because they didn't have the money to do it. Repealing rent the house and to fix the repairs which is kind of like insurance fraud. Okay. A fifty thousand dollar security deposit. Yes. And they had to have a million dollars worth of rent a Brennan renter's insurance, which they didn't. They never got. Of course not. So I feel a lot better about my renting since I thought I was getting ripped off, but not so much. Well. Yeah. And the way that they lay this whole news media, just like this place into just like a disgusting nest of everything. I mean you had he not keeping the property clean and sanitary. She decided she wanted to have her own cleaning staff. Come in, when he already had a fulltime cleaning staff so he had a cleanings. Yes. Built into the rent. No. She brought her own along. Okay. And so that was another part of the agreement that she had a creeper cleaning staff. Keep the house up because in, I know none of us have these words in our Lisa's. Okay. This is how you had to keep the house in, quote, top show condition top show condition because they were showing the house, not in top show conditioners, also, yet he keeps your your quote. Property and content. Shelby kept in pristine condition and not subject to reasonable wear and tear. It makes sense. I mean. And it was five year old. The cats it was on the market for think. It was ten million dollars with lasting price. But this is what he says that these people did it's not just the crayons on the walls, and they were focused Marcus. Yeah. It's great. And that's count. Three of the today, pictures is like an exhibit of all. Eventually but I mean they didn't even keep like the plumbing was all messed up. They wouldn't keep anything cleaning in working order. They weren't even according to him, not properly using the heat and air conditioning of the playas, and even the elevators there's elevator a reasonable manner. The end not only to the pets were peeing everywhere. Family members. Of this winter accused of paying everywhere, inside and outside. Why? Yeah. The Beverly hillbillies rolling into some rich neighborhood. And just trash on either is the house was infected with insects. Whereas mold all over the wanna live in that why would you pay thirty thousand a month up ninety thousand of front of two thousand dollars security deposit to live in these kinds of commission on. That's, that's not how they found the house. That's what they did to it. No, I'm saying why wouldn't you want to? The house in your living space to those kinds of conditions. They are still living in that yet disgusting filth. Wind paying thirty dollars. That doesn't make any sense, and they stole not only the cuisinart set, they were stealing, utensils door handles and cabinet. Door handles that was handle damage the front gate, which apparently is upset about because that's mentioned like three times in the lawsuit. They damaged his home entertainment center. Once again, the whole urinating pets, and people think, comes up, it was on the furniture, linens beds floors everywhere. Oh, my destroy countless cabinets enjoys. This is what it was like a laundry list kind of bad. I feel like at first we were like, wow. What a jerk through in five year old, right? Kind of saw. Minute. Yeah. And, and I feel bad for the five year. I mean, what kind of life is that for the five year old when you're living in filth bright and they cause by one hundred and nine thousand dollars. But they also they were paying the utilities, they weren't paying didn't keep up with the monthly payments. They weren't even paying I don't understand what it is. They were trying to pull here. Like, first of all, why in the world, would you rent thirty thousand dollars a month place? Essentially, they became squatters is right? And they were trying to, like, basically, there's this whole thing in the law called like adverse possession, wherever you take over a house. You can possibly take it over because you've been there, so long. But usually, that's where no one knows you're there just kind of, like, well, you know, it's my now these people were just like they wouldn't even let him in or that's cleaning staff, in so it's crazy. Yeah, that's nuts. I should've tried save gets on the show. I actually did it his niece when I was up in Chicago. Impressive. When you told us that I took her to Taylor swift. I just figured, I'd I never met Scotty Pippin, though, that whole time that we never crossed pads but I could ever lease rate. Well, I don't know if I would have gotten a response. Let's just leave it at that coming up next. We'll talk about the president's trip to the u k including a fashion. Critique of what he and the first lady were wearing we've got that for you in a moment on PM Tampa Bay..
Scottie Pippen, Florida And Mark Graves discussed on Waddle & Silvy
"In court. Did you see the Scottie Pippen lawsuit banishing, Florida? Yes. So now, he's now added the, the, the defendants daughter to the lawsuit because of all of the damage to the walls of her. I think she it's like a five year old girl to raw brands and Mark graves and markers from drawing on the walls to weird story. Yeah. He hasn't been able to sell his mansion in Florida. So he's been renting it out for like, what was it like fifteen grand a month or something like that twenty grand a month? It's a lot. So now he's doing
NBA: Does Steph Curry Need The Finals MVP For His Legacy?
"NBA finals begin finally tomorrow night wide Leonard comes in under the most celebration on the other side of Steph curry who in the last five playoff games has been absolutely sensational. Scoring even more than Kawai. Steph has three NBA titles to MVP's already but not a finals, MVP Colli does by the. Curry said, quote, it's a special award that everybody wants to get, including myself. But at the end of the day, the first thing I do is look up and see, did you win or lose on quote, we'll curry need this particular ward to validate his great career. No. And the fact that I never even thought about this today as much as I think about uncover, the NBA illustrates why. I mean, I've never thought about this now. It's interesting historical thing, Tony for particularly for older people like us who know the history of the league, and I think back on it, and of the people who've one of those who've won top twenty five place fifteen eighteen twenty players Julius Erving to me seems to be the most famous most accomplished has conic player who is not one because the other conic players, you know, they didn't win or they were the number two guy like Kevin McHale or, or someone like that Scottie Pippen great, great tonic players. I'm not gonna say they certainly are where they are. And I think Julius Irving is the guys is the only one. Right. I guess as Carmello Cremona, John Stockton, but they didn't they didn't. They didn't want to Patrick like you. Reggie, those are not commonplace like you. Seth curry has a chance to be an iconic. He's got a chance to win four championships in five years, he's the greatest shooter of all time. All right. I think of this as a small, it just doesn't even register on me, but, but magic Scott it and birds got it and Jordan's got it and his contemporaries Durant LeBron have this. So if you want to use this as disqualifier because you don't like curry, I guess you can not. I I he's an all time players ever wins this because of everything. He's one I think, might I think this is too small. You gotta get to the finals Griddle with you willing some place winning is the thing again. Tony, I just call it historical greatest note, but does it mean devalue Steph crises, not cement us, now

"It's a it's a it's an outdated institution. And you know, it's a big. Now, you're adding a whole 'nother level of it Mark with this planning this huge fortieth birthday party slash. Wedding about the texture. If I was unhappy my marriage, I would probably be awake. At this time to says, let's see we got seventy voices. I love the idea of marriage. But I don't think I can deal with the stress and drama and roller coaster emotions of it. All see one five publicized marriage will not make you happier. Unless you're going to have kids don't do it. I mean, I for me, it's it is about to having children, and creating an athlete. All I wanna do is have a you know, a basketball player. Okay. Then you know, what? Then you're with. Roger it is a business transaction, maybe you should talk to the lady who called in who is in the medical lamp, the science one of my one of my favorite dates before I became an engaged person. She she's wearing the sweater. And it had I don't know for whatever reason she's just like extended her arms out, and she had the longest arms, and I got so excited. I'm like, oh my God. You've got amazing arm. She's like really, why are you saying like, I I want an athlete. Great, wingspan Scottie Pippen had a great wingspan, Mike, you you you're the one and then she didn't work out. But but those arms really turned me on more than any other body part at that wings fans. Okay. Right. Yes. Thank you. Thanks, patty. Okay. Bye quick time out and Rogers news, seven.

"Brought to you by straight talk wireless. That's phones, that's networks. No contracts. You sound like a horse racing public address announcer and coming around the sets is that face lullaby mustache while ginger. This could be going worse at this rate. You're not gonna even come back tomorrow, which is already gig. That's a meal Hassen insecure. The laugh, you just heard is from standing Gundy, I wanna play this sound for STAN Van Gundy and amino has and from Scottie Pippen, and Tracy McGrady is a lot of experience and Scottie Pippen as one of the top fifty basketball players of all time is always good for some quotes where you're like. I'm for the quotes that will provide disagreement that ESPN feeds on as on all of its channels because Scotty Pippin over the years as said some things that we can argue about I think he's changed his mind about forty times about whether LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan. But here are Scottie Pippen and Tracy McGrady talking about Zion. Williamson college basketball's the biggest star definitely going to be the number one pick. I mean, I think he's done enough for basketball college basketball that is is is more about him for and I think for him. Was a young player that I would shut it down. Let me. Me I would stop playing because I feel that he could wrist a major injury that could really hurt his career football players doing it. Why not the college football players skipping a bowl games? And they're getting ready to come by. If I was him. I know him. Lease NBA. I'm out of here. I'm so down. Stan. I mean football players are doing it and shutting it down but only in the bowl games when they're out of championship contention. That's not gonna happen to Duke duke's going to be in contention until they either win at all or losing the NCAA tournament. I hope that's not a trend that will start to infiltrate college basketball. But you do have to take his point seriously about the injury and injury could cost this guy millions of dollars. So I understand why brings it up isn't. He also more likely to get injured because of his size and the way that he plays. And like if there's a guy in the in in college basketball that I would look at and say there's a high probability or there's a higher probability that he gets injured playing that way that high at that size would be what I would be looking at. Well, actually, I would think the probability the the one person that would have a higher probability of getting injured than him would be anybody that gets in his way basket. Ball court. QC the chart talked. The charge was very talk talk wireless nationwide coverage on America's largest, most dependable four G LT network. Dan, Amine says that LeBron is the drug that you cannot quit explain to stand. What it is that you were saying on highly questionable yesterday. It's funny because of trying to think about all these teams that he's on and how they play really well when he's out there, and we say LeBron makes everyone better on the court. And you say yes, and you start to believe that these other guys played with a really good. And then the moment he had sit out due to injury. Or what have you their level of performance dropped so dramatically that it's almost like they need LeBron to even be decent NBA players. You look back at the Cleveland Cavaliers with Kevin Levin career having both were all MBA caliber players all star players when LeBron didn't played it was something like four and thirty. And so I'm wondering if there's something about LeBron because he's so all encompassing in terms of taking over your program. How we're gonna play on both sides of the ball. That you literally can't play without him. If you get used to playing with them. Now, I think it's a great point. And I don't think it's necessarily because there's not enough talent. I mean, kyri Irving and Kevin love if you put them on a team together is certainly going to be a playoff team in the east if they're healthy. I think the point you made a mean is right on it..
"Of things you face. Andrew luck this week. And I know you've seen film on Andrew. I love. Andrew lock I think life a lot of times is do you get support? Nobody can do it alone in life. Nobody no player. Michael, jordan. Yeah. Not in football, by the way, Michael Jordan needed Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson too. And I look at Andrew lock in those first few years, man. He didn't have an align. He didn't have a running game. Now, he has both Logan Ryan when you look at the film of Andrew luck. What do you see what jumps out to you? Because this is the biggest titans game in the regular season. Logan. I can remember in years. What do you see? I see that he's healthy. I mean, he's doing the ball. Like Andrew lucked does and early in his career when he was healthy and has some protection he was MVP candidate. So that's what it is the last games. He hasn't. He hasn't got saying. I mean, that's the key. If you give any quarterback or especially a good one some time in this lead. They can pick you apart. I mean, I I tip my hand. I think that we have the best cover guys NFL. I think we're the best secondary. I think we can match up with anybody man to man with our three corners and our Tuesday fifties. But if you give anybody time, you can't cover them forever. So we have to find a way to disrupt his timing it and then offense align make him uncomfortable. Similar to what we did last week. We just had to really make comfortable back there and allow our coverage in our in our in our rush to the Matt mareo, I think that's the key. You
