Director Rod Lurie on 'The Outpost'

"The new movie the outpost. It was the most downloaded film of the weekend, and it's an immersive experience. It's about an outpost in Afghanistan at the base of this valley. If you're just joining us, it was sort of a bizarre placement of this base. But what happened was there was a Taliban insurgency of massive proportion and the director of the film Rob Gloria's is talking with us. This was a true incident. It was chronicled in a book by Jake Tapper, and then you brought it to the screen. Yeah. Jake Tapper released that best selling book in 2012. It was great. You know, when I When I first time out to do it, I called Jake up and, you know, he just wants to talk movies. So I want to do is talk about politics. So we sort of have to divvy it up every time that way. Have a conversation just because you mentioned politics I want tojust also know this is not a political film at all. I mean, really like there's no, no, it's not Pro War antiwar, pro GOP Anti GOP Pro Democrats. Cetera. There's none of that. No, it's about it's about. We really focus on the eight dudes of lost our lives and the two living member to living survivors. By definition, They're living survivors who received the Medal of Honor. One is Ty Carter, played by Caleb Landry, Jones and the other Is Scott Eastwood on DH. He plays staff Sergeant Clint Roma Shay and And that's really worried for what it really is A chronicle of what happened in the battle and sort of the events that led up to it. I would tell you more than anything else. And you know you've got Orlando Bloom and it also it's funny that one should you know, Should you give everybody best haircut and the you know basic Army. Whatever that, you know, Whatever you call it, you lose track. I guess I'm trying to say of any celebrity in it all. It's all very immersive. How did you know that was clearly a desire on your part, too? You know these battle sequences and just the feeling over time is that we're actually there at the outpost. Well, you know, the one of the things that I did mark is that I shot most of most of the film every scene in one long tape in the battle sequences, things on these long, I think really fluid takes And so you know, there's you don't think you're in a movie. I don't think you don't see cutaways. You don't see You know Scotty's would shooting his weapon and then cut a bad guy going down. It's you know, it's all in the long fluid. Um, uh, shots and as a result, I think that you're you're deeply embedded in every scene. At least that's what we were. That's what we're going for. Well, All the reviews were saying the exact same thing isn't very well reviewed film. But I have to ask you, though, from a filmmaker's pinpoint as you're doing that all in one continuous shot. You have all of these things got here got bullets everywhere and you got stuff blowing up and you've got, you know, guys running this way and other people running that way and people climbing over, you know, I mean, there's a lot to choreographing end in one of those things doesn't happen. You gotta retake it again. Oh, so like, you know, that's exactly right. So we've got special effects. I mean, you already laid it all out on the special effects the actress to get it right. And I remember there was this one really, really magnificent Take That we did, and kid Landry Jones, who zeal just hauling ass hundreds of yards, and we're following in the hallway with the, uh you know this one camera and the camera operators exhausted when it's all done, but everyone we nailed it and everybody's cheering and high fiving and tight. Carter. The actual Medal of Honor winner is there and he's hugging and crying, and you got it exactly right and then our military experts Guy named Jericho Dem and comes up and says, No, no, no, no, no, You've got it all wrong. No, no, It's a mess back guy that I was holding his weapon like that doesn't look like one explosion. Supposed to look like I said them. Come on, man. It's a movie was okay. Well, if you want every military guy in America and the world elastic find, Okay. Let it all up again and do it again, You know, And that is the thing you you have to be loyal to story and also to the look of the film as He said before the break. You know you are connected to the military sort of in your own personal history. And obviously a lot of military people looking on this movie. Well, well, you know we've gotten look, I wrote an article today in the deadline and what I said was, it's really difficult to know the metrics of success are But to me how the veterans have reacted to this has been like, unbelievable. And and you know what Marc, also how the families of fallen reacted to this. That was really freaking way. Show them this movie last October, we flew them in the moms and the dads and the brothers and the You know the wives and the kids, and we don't know what they're gonna say after work, you know? The actual soldiers that were there, looking at the worst day of their lives depicted on screen. And these families are looking at their loved ones dying on screen. You know, a couple of people afterwards and you know, I I didn't realize they swore so much. Ah, but there was really in the end, very gracious. And they hugged us and they loved us because you know they're They're boys. They're men and their sons there. They're going to be remembered forever now and You know, That's not something every soldier gets. So you know, I know it sounds corny, more But you know, having been a soldier that is really it was really, really important to all of us. I think it's happened. The capper was a wreck that night, and it's really interesting to watch it because that guy's such a cool cookie when he's interviewing generals and senators and governors and ripping them new ones, and you know who he is, But you know, on a night like this It was a flop Sweating. So was so was I, but it was It was pretty amazing night. I mean, you have to. You really are trying to honor the memory of people and you're trying to honor those who fought so valiantly and the movie, I think does that with, you know, without knowing the history as deeply as you do, Obviously, I just I was riveted by it, and I think it's powerful, both emotionally and in every other way. The movie is called the Outpost. Rod Lurie is the director. It's got Orlando Bloom's got Eastwood mentioned Caleb Lander Jones as well, but it really transcends any kind of one performance. I think it's really one of those films that I was blown away by. So congratulations. Really nice job, Rod. Thank you, Marc. I I really really appreciate appreciate it. it. You should assume everything he says is a compliment, right? It's not. Whatsoever, you Danielle. So I think silly. String is underrated with adults over the weekend. When we were at this little bonfire that we were out, there were a couple of kids playing with silly string, and just like squirting each other with silly string and laughing, and my son was one of them, and he was rolling over in laughter. He had silly string all over him, and he thought it. It was the greatest thing ever and I think the more silly string you had on you, you won. You didn't lose you one and I think adults would have so much. I wanted silly string a Mike. This is so cool so I. Think we has adults really should get out there and get some more silly string. Just attack each other with it. It'd be Gandhi Donny. Guns and start shooting. I. What's scary? I was out my friend. Steve's barbecuing Queens yesterday and He put that spiral sausage on the grill. But then you realize you know what there's a reason why you leave it until the end because he was, the sausage started spiraling all over the place like a snake. Sticks in until after the. Full can. You wait till the sausages fully code not only around. The Room was like an instructional moment. It was an observation than. What's on your mind today frog? You know working from home is tough. Mean you go in there and your little nervous It kind of like going to school for the first time when you were in like first or second grade. You know you go to see your class and we go in there and they. They have a certain number of table setup and everybody's spaced out. They have tape on the ground, indicating where you can stand where the tables can be and It was nice to get out though I do have to say that and just experience what we took for granted two and a half months ago to be able to into a restaurant and say hey, you know i. want this that this thing I refill. It was so weird and I think everybody was just so appreciative of everybody that was working there. It was really nice to see and I can't wait to get back to that. On a on a bigger scale. Right so! I wonder if any restaurants are going to hang shower curtains between the tables stuff like that. You know what I'm saying. Well shower plexiglass industry is going to go through the roof. Yet is yeah very much. Though well, okay. We hung out with some friends over the weekend and had a great time. It was good. It was good to be with people. I enjoyed it and I'm not going to sit here and say. We socially distanced ourselves because you're know we did. I have to. Are the Karens will come out of the woodwork. That's her problem I'm not gonNA. Care and have a problem. Anyway. Scary you and your friends and you're gonNA. Go to You're going to go up to Connecticut see this is the Problem Connecticut is. The opening-up everyone's driving Connecticut website called CT BITES DOT COM. It's a foodie website, and it lists all the restaurants that are open for outdoor dining in the state.

Horace Grant defends Scottie Pippen, questions specific aspects of 'The Last Dance'

"Thing about horse Horace was not just based on his own behalf he was pissed for Scotty Pippen is well because aside from Jordan giving some praise to paper early in the series most of the talk about Pippin was about all these low moments I remember being hold on call the number two guy decorated it's gotten papers put three so badly in terms of the moderate in terms of the one point six or seven seconds Selfridge I I have never seen this and all of my life in the respect of people out there I think games six could barely walk do not down on his back try to do whatever he could to help the team but my my my point is while I was at one point sixty seven seconds in the documentary so called documentary about it will be with only eighteen while they're in there we handle that very year really well as a team he he was wrong for doing that well you're still we went after the game we'll do it up there we have to say bill car right and then we handle it was over it was over we go on the techniques to seven games told me it was over why bring that up that's my question everybody out there is listening it's always grant and it's a fair question if this series is about the final season the so called last dance why was something from four years earlier included something that Jordan was not even therefore he was out playing baseball that didn't concern him he was on that team as Horace said the team handle it in the paper knew it was wrong even though people did say if the documentary that he would not change anything anyway if this was about Michael Jordan's version of the final season why was something that did not involve Michael Jordan why was that given so much time in the dock why was it so important to Jordan to bring up the lowest point of Pippen's career and if you want to say yeah well because that was important believe me he left out a lot of important things so why was it important to him to put that in there

Did 1998 have to be the last dance for Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls?

"At last we heard Michael Jordan say that from the outset of the nineteen ninety seven ninety eight season it was their last chance Phil Jackson he said could have gone any joint in the regular season and still would not have been back throughout the last dance we were reminded of Jordan's competitiveness and as we watch the end of a ten hour documentary about a team a franchise that just won six titles in an eight year span Michael Jordan was upset he did have a chance to go for a seventh the bulls were broken up the rebuilding began after that nineteen ninety eight championship could they have had one more in the could they have kept the team together if they tried ESPN's Michael Wilbon Jackie MacMullan I would bet on Scotty Michael and Phil Jackson anytime anywhere let's start with that but here's the problem Phil and Jerry Krause Scott their relationship was untenable by that point so there was no way Phil was going to come back if you don't have still come back then who's going to control Dennis robin even

Hundreds Of Prisoners Have Died In U.S. From Coronavirus

"People living in close quarters like nursing homes are particularly vulnerable to the crown of ours and that goes for prisoners to buy one count at least twenty five thousand inmates in American prisons have tested positive for the coronavirus with three hundred and seventy three deaths Jake Harper with side effects public media reports from Indiana at least seventeen Indiana prisoners have died so far during the pandemic the very first with Scotty Edwards he was seventy three years old serving time for attempted murder in two thousand one Edwards was at a prison called west Phil he thank you for ballpark about a week and a half an inmate named Josh told his mother in a recorded call that Edward started showing cope with symptoms in early April he has to be identified by his first name because he's afraid of retaliation from prison staff here's one over your medical travel time Medicare fail you're fine you can send them back to other inmates corroborated the story they said Edwards was short of breath dizzy and sweaty you can even make it to see medical staff on its own other prisoners pushed outwards in a wheelchair each time he was sent back to his dorm one very late accurate after land almost fell just said to inmates got Edwards to sit on a toilet an officer called the medical staff we are in the bathroom for about forty five minutes after they finally come out on oxygen and and make them you know five hours later you guys these personal accounts it contradicts the official story from the Indiana department of correction Edwards died on Monday April thirteenth the next day the department put out a release it read quote the offender a male over the age of seventy who did not have indications of illness reported experiencing chest pains and trouble breathing on Monday and quote the Westville inmates emphasized that Edwards didn't wait until that Monday to report his symptoms he complained to staff for days Dr Kristin dos is the chief medical officer for the department of correction she declined to explain the different accounts of his death we do not talk about the topic he says and patient clinical data advocates a vast Indiana governor Eric Holcomb to order early release for some inmates such as the old and sick governors in the nearby states of Ohio and Kentucky have ordered such releases but Holcomb has refused he says it's up to local judges to decide on a case by case basis in the meantime Dr das says Indiana prisons are taking steps to control the spread of the corona virus we moved quickly and yes we have separate bills were sick from the tech but according to accounts from numerous inmates that kind of quick isolation of sick prisoners doesn't always happen three inmates at a prison in Plainfield described another coded death one L. teeny died April nineteenth Cheney kept complaining he couldn't breathe according to a fellow prisoner who later told his girlfriend what happened over the phone he across we've been trying to get this you'll start your to send them the medical initiative back Tuesday another prisoner recalls that medical staff came to check on Cheney but left him in the dorm where he later died and it's bad prisoners say watching other inmates die like that is scary and they worry it'll keep happening before Scott Edwards got sick he shared his anxieties with the sister Gloria Sam he said I am afraid of this virus because we're close to gather any big comes out is spread like wildfire she says her brother stopped calling in early April which was unusual the day after he died she got a call from prison staff she thought they were gonna say Edwards was sick they sit here he attacked us at practice what do you mean testing that this is a symbol is one of the most hurtful things I've experienced in my life that was April fourteenth if he hadn't died Edwards would have been released from Westville prison on may

ESPN Michael Jordan doc: 'The Last Dance' episode 3-4 highlights

"From now last night the last dance Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls we have a so it's three and four and these two episodes centered on two different revolving storyline it's been a little bit confusing as great as the filmmaking is it's been a little confusing if they darted back and forth between eras the reason they're doing this is not just a start to finish documentary the timeline of the nineteen ninety Chicago Bulls which which start hypothetically would Jordan gets there the eighties then go right through nineteen ninety eight instead of it's built around the all access footage that they got in nineteen ninety eight and so that's got to be at the core of it and then they build around that the sub plots of what happened with Jordan first got there the building of the culture of the hiring of Phil Jackson the resentment of the Jerry Krause the addition of Scotty Pippin all these little things along the way and so last A. U. two totally different eras kind of combining these two episodes the one era being the nineteen late nineteen eighties early nineteen nineties wars with the Detroit Pistons the bad boys pits and buys that Thomas Joe Dumars and Dennis Rodman and then the modern carnival surrounding Dennis Rodman with the bulls and I say moderate in air quotes because it was nineteen ninety eight so you have the late eighties wars with the pistons and the late nineties battles in keeping Dennis Rodman on tracks was been a little confusing to go back and forth if you're not really familiar with how the whole thing unfolded I thought as I assumed that the episode against the episode of the wars with the pistons were going to was going to be one of the most captivating if not the most captivating because it is a moment in time where Michael still can't win and I think that there is I don't want to see it inaccurate because it is accurately the the reputation of Michael Jordan's accurately depicted as six time champion he did those things he was six now in the NBA finals six NBA finals MVP awards they never went to a game seven so is accurately depicted as a winner but what is often times forgotten is there is a chunk of his career he is not a winner and when I see the tear downs of lebron James o'reilly C. with anybody's compared to Michael of they don't have the killer instinct they're not a winner they don't take the last shot all this stuff that really is surrounded lebron by and large but it's hit other players as well and kind of makes everybody pal compares to Michael I keep reminding myself and those around me yeah but Michael wasn't always Michael that we know him now he's a finished product he is now a icon he was a winner but there were years that's the reason is because I watch those years had remember getting Sports Illustrated the mail where it said basically you don't the pistons are stopping Michael Jordan could can Michael didn't get past the pistons can Michael Jordan win a championship and that the conversation at that time nationally was Michael great individual player cannot win the title is not good enough to make his teammates better in Seoul I was glad that that part of the narrative is being talked about with that with the pistons that does our blood feuds and Michael could not get over this any loss to the pistons three consecutive years the only highlight the last two years the United ninety last night they lost we get eighty eight as well that is three years off Hey gene for Michael to after where they did they finally get over to nineteen ninety one so those wars to me were the most fascinating part about last night's two episodes because that to me is one of those interesting errors if not the most interesting era of the bulls is that they are better than garbage which they were when he took over when when he got drafted they're not as good as they were when it was assumed they would just blow through the league they're in this transition state it it's almost like it's almost like growing from a warm or caterpillar to a butterfly it's in that moment is the nineteen ninety in nineteen ninety one pivot point post seasons where they lose to the to the pistons in seven and then they finally beat him in nineteen ninety one by sweeping them and I say and the bad boy pistons walk off the floor before the game is over and don't shake the

Make Life Longer

"All have the same hours and minutes in the data. We agree with that. I've not met anybody else who has amoral any less than I do. Maybe during daylight saving time during the transfer it's like during the time zone. Transfer there you go. That's what happens when it springs Ford. Our in the springtime right we spring forward and the time zones are going around the world as they go into daylight saving time. Maybe for just a few minutes. Somebody actually has sixty minutes less than you do. But that's the only time I can think about that but if you notice the weeks in the month say they seem to be passing faster and faster and faster and faster. And if you're if you're young if you're a kid life seems like forever. Just ask any kid. It seems like Christmas must be a lifetime. They just had one man. What's IT GONNA come again? It seems like a lifetime to get there. But if you're in your sixties or seventies or Arabia's happened yesterday wanted to why Abdelghani go put your lab coat on White One. It's okay or scrubs if you have a more just pretend okay. Einstein's theory of relativity states the rate. At which time passes depends entirely on your speed and acceleration at any given moment. But we're not going to talk about Einstein's physics today that would be too easy talk about technology and perception. You have an iphone. Do you have a computer? Do you have an IPAD? You have all of them. Are they all connected? These spend a Lotta time on the computer and and sinking everything up so everywhere you go wherever you go. Everything's right there only molly. I've been doing that this week. Driving crazy what happened to the days of being able to just to kind of disappear when you were a kid? Did you go out and play all day long and it just seemed like the day lasted forever. Maybe he didn't have a watch back then. Didn't even know how to tell time possibly. Have you ever been on a vacation? And after a couple of days you finding unwind a lot of people never get a ticket two week vacation but I promise if you do. It's different takes you the whole week to unwind the first week and after that it's like I can't stay here two about the seventh or eighth or ninth day. You're like I could stay here forever. Days Begin seem like forever. They begin to slow down tall about that. Motion thing writes all relative. But there's some new evidence out there that is saying that our technology is affecting us. I think that wouldn't be a surprise to you. We can feel it and I'm okay with that I it's GonNa help but you know it's relatively new. It takes about twenty years for society to adapt to any kind of tech thinking about what we've done in the past twenty years. I mean the Internet is technically I guess. Aol came out when made back in the late. Ninety s when AOL came out. Iphones only what eleven or twelve years old now. It's relatively new so when you think about that. We really haven't quite figured out how to adapt us and bring this into our world. It's GonNa take some time to do that. Some folks are starting like. I've got a flip phone these days. I do Kinda feel like Scotty. Star Trek communicator. There I use my flip phone when I don't WanNa be bothered. People laugh all the time. I feel cool with it because I can flip it. Open talking then. Flip it close. That's a lot of fun by the way sidebar fast growing bone segment is the flip on because the new evidence. That is coming out. The surveys have been coming out all the scientists studying fancy Dante. Things at constant use of technology is making your brain. I ready for it more efficient and processing information. Let me say that against get at. Your brain is getting more efficient at processing information. If you take the amount of information you consume in what ten minutes or even even just getting out of bed and glancing at your phone if you were to look that you swipe through a couple of things check your email. Check facebook check your social media. Check everything that's going on. If you just take sixty seconds do that. You're just putting more information in your brain. Then somebody one hundred years ago probably would do in a year. Have you ever thought about that? They would can you imagine I think back about two hundred years maybe gets Quebec three hundred years? If you want to and imagine somebody you Hanwha smartphone and say here. What would they do they probably go? I have news for you. You're still kind of in the middle of the stage. Technically speaking evolution wise but your brain is learning to process that information quickly. Now when we at information quickly in your mind. It's tricking you. It's tricking you into thinking. Time is passing faster. If you don't believe me just don't check your email. Your social media for Kenya make ten minutes. Try Day try a weekend. I actually very often on a Friday will flip off my smartphone. Internal my flip phone and it's kind of weird. If you haven't done that you might want to try. You won't get about a half mile down the road in your car without wanting to check your email. Try It some time. Time isn't speeding up. It's not going any faster. Your brain is speeding up how it processes information. That's giving you a perception that everything is going faster so so if you wanNA perceive life as as Short. time and i'm really proud of because this next person is somebody that is audited family has been part of the family and he calls me so much just for business tips and he's one of the few people who listen and it really gets his grind on scott scott that's how we get here uh-huh oh you walk into here real flos we're w- wait wait wait wait wait walkout walkout come back here it's gotta hold on close to the mic walk let me hold them i like okay first of all put your hair falls oh giving gifts back and introduce who you are in the name of your business okay scotty a. -til the name of my business aw aw got we know what to do about ah out some ribs in greece by scotty uh-huh is going down goatee right i do t- widening tool gyms i mean the community do some blame like oh he wouldn't he say that she said it should have given you what i do teeth whitening right there okay okay i am so proud of you first of all okay so you want to show us i guess i wanna give them to you open them up okay which one for me this is yours this is lee golly oh shit diane okay everybody got something different by the way for this t shirt for about four months yeah got it so i'm sorta jealous i like thanks a saying this candle out is my story say it's on kalorama nineteen hundred candler role on the represent stole representing the hood where does it so i wanted to i got you i got us guys around gosh so so tell us about the business tell us how started doing grills and i was i was telling him earlier bro mamie you sit on on the phone like two three hours man trying to figure out shit out man just tell them about the business how you started well man i disguise i'm in the marketing and so a friend of mine came in the studio one day he was like these do wanna meet a market grills what i declined wanna do it because at the time i would just reimburse on market knowledge weenies book contagion and we ended up going going up the anyway to these guys store one day and so the guy was talking to me would ally mount sinai interesting you know but it was cool it will cool saw iran so homeware later on tonight clue he had just lost his job due grew lifeguarding so you wanna do grew he he was assistant though you know and so on took him back up during their first i was going to do business far handed lighter you know the end stuff whatever like pave were doing the marketing getting artists do grills say myself i was an artist of but i ended up having to do everything he was buying everyday on building a goal down making the greer's ourselves i noticed how studies and then we ended up getting like different teams together like you'll be able to house who different teams together to do certain types of grills and so you you say you're literally melting gold down in the crib where it was it was it was ashley kriel slayers business like slashes we love slash yeah yeah okay what you actually melt and gold down and making grills linked to yeah that's how it is us impressing adding extra not right now don't even don't even pay any tip back over here don't but that's what yeah and so from we got scammed a couple of times you know what i'm saying we got burnt kobe oh and then we ended up getting the office is crazy bread like you think about like history brown lake y'all not to put it on front street sometimes i talk to you and that's why they think it about mealy meet me talking somebody down the same conversation as me and you have leeann conversations you have with me scott scott grab my hand one night daugaard like i was coming out i was here come here you will not go on it i tell them here stat was like we're not doing that at doing that tonight for me man like i'm so proud of you bro because you wanted a few people brought it listen that's one that's the thing that we have to give which other is the information to help us be able to move further brian you wanted a few people that brought everything that i ever told you like you leave and i'd be like brown one if he see you be gone and then you come back and show me big bro is dead and i'm real real proud of you i i i wanna tell somebody about the time that you came on occur you brought me my first set of grills and he was like brian magee your discount what did i tell us is lower discount one pay full price yeah and i gave a tip yeah on top of that you remember why said say we gotta keep do the money circulating in the family because one day i might have it or you know vice versa and i might not have right right right so we gotta pay when we have you know what i'm saying i just think that that's important tell us tell us as a a young businessman something that you wish you would learn a little bit earlier and this is what other kids who come in after you okay i think that i wish i would've taken saving money a lot more seriously you know i remember being in school and people come in and be like if you say this amount of money eh every day or every week you'll have a million dollars ban twenty years you know you live man twenty years you remember what my father told us that still to the holiday excuse me for interrupting regina that concept that i have always tell you always take myself i i got that from scott's dead and like i looked at one time and i mean i'm not capping but like have more money than i ever thought of his his dad had accumulated enough money that people would have called like like the starter kit for well and he never i had no super big job he was he wanted it was oscar never made more than of about forty five hundred dollars a year but he took five thousand hundred now my father's ninety one now so okay okay okay he when he was in the army he sent every time he made to his mother and when he got out of the armie let me tell size when he came back from korea he couldn't even get a VA loan as a veteran but his mother has saved all of his paychecks and when he can aim here four rental properties and he took it from there to almost thirty on a schoolteacher salary but he always taught me no matter what you do you pay yourself first so darnall became cool i happen to mention that casually dated next thing i know he had put it in motion as an actual business practice was paper up a little bit i i like to be honest with you the money that i use for the podcast came for the money that i saved because like will happen is like let's say i give you example let's say if i may ten thousand right i'll take five hundred thousand every time or like if i get out of this ten dollars if i get you percentage wise or you just decide you can do it anywhere you it could be a percentage it could be i try to teach my family members take twenty percent that's a safe that's an easy number that you won't really miss in your day to day but that twenty percent will add up if you just leave it the fuck alone i do is i pay what i used to paint management says i'll had no manager no more like so what you make yourself a job right it'd be salary twenty percent on what do you do with the you hold it until it's time you know you put it away somewhere away from you know okay so this is what i do this is this was an old old guy taught me i take that that money and i don't even really i don't even put it in the bank i take it like anywhere from our ways and put it in a safe deposit box far away so that if i feel like i needed and i started driving towards the money i'll talk myself out of it by the time you get about thirty minutes be like dog i don't need to do this i just put mine right now we probably talk about two different decimal points money finger my right in my face and that's how you developed mental toughness so i don't know i'm not putting it two hours away personally i'm gonna put it right there as a second savings account and i'm just gonna have to discipline not to touch it well it's not just for that it is also so that it won't be on you just in case scotty where where where can people find you where's your store or online stuff was the name of that little old sale sales sale yes nine thousand nine hundred counter row call me at five six one three seven nine nineteen sixty one she can help us up owned instagram grills by scotty with z come through man we do appointments on went on sundays and wednesdays every other day we're open from eleven to eight PM sharma may m dot here here with me now uh acer hold me down point music you have any music coming up streams is our right now is saying y'all's bay.

"The regular Scotty say yours is joining us a long distance as well Scotty welcome to your program thank you candy the show is in really good hands today with Dave and Joe and yourself and we are over in Paris tonight watching the open championship it was exciting today although Shane Lowry pulled away from Tommy Fleetwood and change the whole perspective going forward how are things back in Austin I know it's warm there well actually sky there's a breaking news they've actually they are in a as you know that runs the open championship has moved up the starting times for fear of weather tomorrow and I'm sorry in the British open as we call it or the open championship I thought weather was part of the game but they're moving up the starting times the final pairing will be at seven forty seven in the morning and by the way two euros are atop the leader board Michael I got that way you either one of them winning would be exciting for the Europeans main having Tommy Fleetwood Moran have an Englishman when would be great because he's so popular but Shane Lowry the Irishman winning would be over the top and and I know Joe you have got to share the sadness of Rory McElroy missing the cut I mean that was very unfortunate and I know you felt the pain for and I know I did yeah I sure did I I agree you retain full for the country and painful for him it's it's too bad you know there's a guy that has all the town the world plays so well so often but you know you know from my perspective lately when it comes to the big moments in the big events unfortunately he he just doesn't have it all together and it and it played out again you know he accidentally shot himself out of the term at the first round played great the second round and almost made the cut but you know that first round there's really no excuse he should of in a little bit more gritty and you know fought through that a little bit more maybe has had a bad round of maybe seventy two seventy three somewhere in there if you look at all the leader stores you know those guys are right at par or maybe even under par there there aren't too many guys that up near the lead that it shot over par so far this week is my impression well guy my impression was just that Rory felt the entire weight on his shoulders of this championship and it seemed like Shane Lowry was feeding off the crowd Rory was absorbing the crown well I mean I think Rory have so much pressure on my agree with the day he may have wanted it too much and Shane Lowry didn't have near the media focus that Rory and even Bramlett dal had on him because you know be in their home course and having such a history there I think Shane Lowry just kind of slid in under the radar and started playing well we got off to a good start just the opposite a Rory and and he has been enjoying himself today he played so well in the sheet thirty on the back nine I guess my question to you too is is he going to be able to hold up and and sustain well you know look at look at what's already happened we had.

"Modern day Lord, Byron stylish author with politics as his main theme writer against the grain, and as he would have put it a homosexual list. So he styled that word and didn't have many different phases of of how he would describe his sexuality. This consistent actually is at my, he. He said at one point in print, the word gay has never passed my lips and that was generational, but also very him. You know, to someone who was born in the twenties, gay meant something else. It was. It was a slang adopted by by gay people as a kind of a code or it's hell. Of course, the word men happy and it was in very heavy use, meaning happy in this is relevant to the movie. We're talking about today Scotty and the secret history of Hollywood because the first known use of the word gay as a double entendre probably is bringing baby with Cary Grant where he says, famously wearing Katherine Hepburn's housecoat. I've just went Gail the sudden that clip is in the film because Cary Grant is very much in the film because he's one of the people who. Had to leave lead double lives back in the the golden age of Hollywood. I mean, we're getting ahead of ourselves here. We can go back to Vitale and I can bring you through the door to the dad, Matt Scotty, Bowers, yeah, police do will. Scotty was someone I'd heard about in the line of duty for Vanity Fair. I had a string of pieces over the years about senior members of the Hollywood community. I sometimes called it the Norma Desmond beat because they were people generally who'd had huge careers. We're looking back on them and I was kind of like the the, the, the medium for them to reflect on their careers. One of those people's Merv Griffin who was really fascinating guy who lived a double life. He never really came out actually by a big profile of him, which I found just I found him just fascinating. He was sort of like the runner up to Johnny Carson. He was so open about that, but had a huge career was very, very wealthy through real estate producers. As well as behind as well as front man. He created jeopardy and owned and wheel of fortune and owned, and he wrote the theme to wheel of fortune which every time it's played, you know, shackles dropped into his Bank account. He was a really resourceful fascinating kind of not obvious powerhouse in Hollywood and the not obvious part I think is key to this whole discussion. We're having today because they're all these stories behind the stories in in Hollywood and obviously everywhere. But particularly in Hollywood. I think that a really fascinating on earth. So in the course of interviewing Merck Griffin, he told me about old ally. And he said there was a gas station on Hollywood Boulevard where you would go to get in trouble, which I love that euphemize among, you know, that was really the would have been the euphemism of the time. I've also I thought to myself. That's interesting noted. And then a few years later, I did a piece on a really fascinating architect who was part of the gay community. George q or sat the very elevated gay crowd back in the starting in the thirties and forties in LA. And he said there was a gas station on Hollywood Boulevard, and, oh boy, the cars were lined up around the block, and I said, okay, I have to figure out what this was one day. I'm with Gorby to in his living room in the Hollywood hills, and he apropos of nothing announces. I want to find Scottie whose Scotty he said Scotty was my pimp. Now, if you knew doll, that wasn't really such a shocking thing to have him proclaim apropos of nothing. That's kind of the type of thing. He would say Sisa tell me more and he said we had a gas station. I was like, okay, wait a minute. This guy is around, you know him and he's alive. And he said he is. He lives in laurel canyon, but I've lost his contact. So long story short, a book had come out recently called Kate, which was about the bisexuality of Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. It was in part about that in quoted in that book was Scotty Bowers who was quoted by name for the first time he'd been quoted by pseudonym in many books actually written about by many great literary figures, including Bill in..
