"And we made it to the final hour. We appreciate you being here. A lot of really important guests most of the conversation about what happened. Saturday night in gainesville were more guests to come. We'll get more of your reaction and back to the calls. We go at eight five five two four two seven two eight five and a teary is calling next. Hello terry good effort him. All kerry how are you doing today. We are doing great. Thank you thank you for your show. I've been listening for forty years and never called in. Well thank you very much. Have a great show to you back in the days during him. I wanna call about that bozo though in the bronx that you saw in about dan. Dan probably sitting on the field. But he's protecting his quarterback. He's in the way of a national championship. Maybe an sec. Maybe a national team run and that was a blessing rape kit three seconds before the guy hitting and there was no flag still flag today for him to call and be little dan because he does not agree with his calling for to have the corona. He's a corona goal. Here not agree with dan because he wanted to feel the swamp. It's time to open this country up because he has a liberal view and keep me raving dan. I think that's totally uncalled for. And i can't believe you let letting do that but that fits the espn agenda will liberal appreciate you bringing politics into whatever i eat our truthfully. I don't care but the point being that it's okay for me to let one person spout. It's i'm letting you do the same thing so you tell me the distinction there. Well i just think that his underlying is not is not straight. it's because he doesn't like the fact. Dan has a of about by the way by the way. I spoke with scott stricklin. Dan's boss and he didn't like it either. So don't don't beat up on the guy from queens. Want you call scott stricklin and ask him how he felt about dan. Mullen making that comment. We read the number that was that was that was that was scott. Stricklin promulgating a particular political view. When he said that to me either by try to be politically correct while we're in a situation where there's two hundred thirty five thousand people died from the crew of sopore macron virus really. It's two hundred seventeen thousand that have been able to have some kind of other underlying issue that they voted for. The coronas still only makes about fifteen thousand people into buyers jerry terry. I'm not really interested in you. Quoting cove nineteen numbers to me. I promise you can get them on my own. I'm not sure why you're blaming caller though because everyone is everyone's doing the same thing here you have a problem. Call the commissioner of the sec. Call the president at the university of florida. Don't blame it on some guy in queens. Oh these liberal. He does the fact that they one to open up swamp and let everybody come to this time to move in this country. And i mean it's just what's amazing that's can on their bloviate about that really an issue. He's a liberal. So what are you wearing. What are you my question is. What are you doing right now. Walking trying to talk to you. But you're doing your your bloviating from a different perspective. That's all well. I mean you have to respect that. you're exactly right. I just think that you gotta work your what. Dan was trying to keep us off. And so from getting thrown out of the way we. We're we're after all this. We agree on that. I think the officials are the ones who started this. They should've called the flag before that they had three other blown calls. That i think that putting dan fired no excuse to run out on the field. No excuse and i understand that but i just think that he gets a bad rap because he said two weeks ago. Maybe it wasn't the most liberal to say. I'll agree but it's still trying to fight to get. It opened up for football team. Well yeah. hey we're we're we're finding some common ground here. I have seen. I saw twenty seven thousand saturday kyle field. It looks like they manage pretty well. That was a little. He shouldn't blame that on the law. I mean we know that he was trying he got this past week. I guess arkansas. But i just think it's time to open it up to that point. Feel years i'm with you on that. If you wanna go to football game go to a football game. I think no no one is going. No one's no one's making you go if you don't feel comfortable don't go that's exactly right. That's the all my point is. And i don't think you understand about getting onto him about dressing up. He's got young kitsch big mutt. He made the due to that costume. And i don't know that's his right. He should be downgraded for that. Okay well. I am glad we were able to solve all this. This is what this is. What the country ought to be doing solving problems versus screaming. So you'd be really. You'll your show keeper. Let me come on a big thing. Okay you be careful out there. It's nighttime walking. Chris hadn't axed has go right ahead. Chris ahead you're on the air all call you actually chad. I'm calling from mobile county. Florida thirty miles north and desdemona. Your forecast chad. that's fantastic. Thank you calling you. Dan mullen. I'm as beaten to death. You know what. It doesn't matter what i think. Are you think those big money. Gays bowl gator boosters. If they're okay with it it's gonna be okay. I do think the. Dan got a bad rap because people need to look at it this way. He doesn't go out there and defend trash. Trask goes into the Halftime comes out. And he's got He's in concussion. Protocol the offensive line doesn't do anything everybody's on your show every. Espn morning show talking. About how south. Florida is a team. I think that's that's one thing on that. Also missouri a little bit of that. They had a coach in a yellow jacket. That dam was going after the white hat. They decided to inject himself in the middle of it too. I think missouri on some of that also and you know the fact of it is had..

College Athletes Forced To Sign Coronavirus Waivers To Return To Campus

"The last couple of days you certainly seen stories circulating the various schools are requiring players for voluntary workouts to sign waivers. We had Alan Green on earlier from Albany. said they talked about it. They decided not to. So. What does it really mean I? Know what it sounds like. It sounds really bad does heather has done some reporting on that and so much else, and she joins us from ESPN. Heather, great W on. It's always a pleasure. I know you know what it means, but I'll let you take the audience through the process. We said hello to you. Hey Paul. Thanks for having me on I. I think the best way to describe. It is through reporting, which is what Ohio state athletic. Director Gene Smith told me when I spoke to him last night and I asked him. Is this a way to protect yourself? Is it a liability issue? and His answer was no. This is not a legal document. That's why we're calling pledge, and that's because athletic directors throughout the country are concerned about what happens when these college kids leave the confines of Control of athletic facilities. And you know this is, this is the concern as departments are bending. Bending over backwards Paul to not only meet CDC guidelines, but to exceed them to protect these student athletes, but as soon as these players Wanna go to their favorite Taco bar to their girlfriend's house or the other bar whatever it might be all bets are off, so gene Smith is saying is we put this plan in place to try to get them to promise to us that? When they leave the athletic facilities, they will wear a mask. They will social distance. They will be responsible and do what they can to protect themselves the team and stop the spread of the corona virus. I'm glad you explained that. Because we've all been reacting with our is Eyebrows raised heather beyond that. You can't just look at your television and get a snapshot that the numbers are going up because we're. We're in a different spot here. Fourteen weeks in. We were weak, one two or three, but. Some of this negativity comes at really inopportune time as college football moves, everything else moves toward an opening what? What is your reporting? Tell you about where we are well. I've been on the phone all day. Actually trying to answer that question because things are changing and I spoke to Florida. Athletic Director Scott Stricklin today, because he's in Florida where cases arising, and he's still very optimistic. That college football is going to start on time and we're. They are located. I don't WanNa. Use the word safe, but they don't have a lot of cases within their outlet department right now in the community that they're in and you know I was on there. Zoom call last week with. With her doctors and they did a fantastic job again putting things in place to protect student athletes. Now you go to Houston where they had to shut down everything because there were not only six positive cases, but the keeping they were symptomatic. I don't know what to what degree, but that's important because it reminds everyone that they are student athletes. Yes, they are not invincible. Nobody knows exactly how this is going to impact the person that actually gets infected by so I think that's important to remember and I also talked to big twelve. Commissioner Bulls beat today. Yes I'm still very confident that we're going to have a college football season. You're going to see college football games, but it's going to be interrupted. It might be at levels at different places based on the resources that they have going to have outbreaks. Some schools will be able to handle them. Some schools will not and then finally I just hung up with Shane Lyons. Who is the chair of the Football Oversight Committee and he had a great quote, he said the coronavirus is controlling us. We are not controlling it. So as he said as I, sit here today I. Think we're going to have a college football season, but anybody who tells you that they actually know is lying.

Well, look, this is not something new for Scott stricklin. He's been talking about this for a while that look they're trying to enhance the experience for the fans that are coming to the games and making the the seat wider and putting more chair backs. In fact, they're playing to put tear Bax entire lower bowl, and to do that you got to cut capacity, and it's not really that hard. Because as I pointed out in in a tweet earlier today, you know, visiting fans are coming to these games to. And this is something I wrote this summer, they aren't going to lot of games. They're they're reducing their attendance drastically because of cost because where they have to sit. And there's no point hold. Eight thousand seats. I, you know, here's a great set for Colorado state had more fans come to the game in Gainesville than either Missouri or Kentucky both who won here. But they just you know, that's a factor. I think students are have changed a little bit. They're not getting the same response from students. You could cut, you know, some seats that way and then make the seething experience for the season ticket holders. It's better. I'm interested before we get to deepen the Gators doing about this trend here, Pat, what do you think is going on here? I just think you know, when you go to a game. Okay. First of all if you're going on on the road. If you go to knock, so I'm just I'm not picking on Knoxville. But if you go there there's one section where the where the people get really good decent seats of the visiting team. And then the rest of them are so high up you might as well just wants to game on TV, and what people are saying, I don't wanna pay the cost of the ticket which is sometimes over one hundred dollars for regular season games. The flight that the airline to sit and sit that high up. So you're seeing this around the country, and especially I've I noted this in the SEC this summer. It's definitely a trend where people are less likely to go..

"And that's how it is again right now under Dan Mullen, in in terms of the progression of Dan Mohan, you have to wait a little bit till Saturday afternoon, but your your thought so far and in do you think he's brought this program back? I mean, I know he's back. How far do you think I is come from where it was a year ago? Well, just think about a year ago year ago, Jim mcelwain was making death threats on the week of the Florida Georgia gain gave Florida AD Scott stricklin, they built in excuse to fire him after Georgia blue amount. I think he was gonna fire. I think he was gonna fire mcelwain no matter what. Because the program was was delapidated strength and conditioning was terrible. On the attitude of the players was terrible to discipline. This terrible. And Dan Mullen has has come in. And it's been like a breath of fresh air. Obviously he needs to be he's going to have to recruit if he's going to compete against guys like Kirby smart in Nick Sabin. But right now, he's done all the right things talking to my Bianchi, Mike, certainly it's well known that you have been the head cheerleader for use UCF. You got a lot of support over the years. National media still not buying in still wondering about the scheduling for UCF first of all what is tell us about the schedule issues. And and I know what I don't know what they have in the future. And I know they played some really good teams in the past. But what is the issue there because Pittsburgh and North Carolina or Carolina game getting cancelled are not going to get done for UCF. No. But. But I mean, you guys know how schedules or may schedules are made two or three four years in advance not two or three months in advance. When you see a scheduled North Carolina North Carolina was coming up an eleven win season. They been to the the ACC chain be game. We're Clemson barely beat him. They'd wanna let again, they went eleven wins that year, and you know, that's when they scheduled North Carolina. Again, it's not UCS North Carolina's stakes now that the bottom is phone out of their program. And by the way, the game was cancelled anyway because of hurricane foreign so that that's just not, you know, that's that's not UCS. But you know, it is what it is and UCS strength of schedule this year. I'll admit it. It's not been very good. It was better last year. Memphis was a better team last year. I think USF was the better team last year. You know, so yeah, you see you see strength of schedule is having said all that give give give. Give us one reason why they deserve to be considered a serious playoff team. I think the seasons still needs to play out, and we still need to see what happens if you see runs the table again in his one twenty four straight games..

"We'll leave here and fans got mad at me and then five years after I got it wrong. Finally, that was my annual thing. Dan Mullen his leaving because it was just something I saw him and maybe maybe everyone didn't, but I mean, that's okay. That's what coaches do all the time. Sure. Stricken. No, doesn't seem like I mean, he's he's, he's a local. It doesn't seem like the the animus is quite toward him. Yeah. Well, I, I think you're reading it right. Look and I think the world, Scott, I'm not just saying it because I'm on your show. He and I taught, we keep up. You know that he and John or is tied is they can be. They talk every day Cohen our eighty here. And so you know, there's some people that have a great deal of animosity towards Scott for leaving and going to Florida. Because they say, look, you went to Jackson prep high school. You know you graduated from here. It's a little different. Dan, Mullins from New Hampshire. This is different. You're the thing about it is though look at the opportunity for a Scott stricklin look at what he did. I'm not sure where the expectation is, why it's there that if you graduated here, you work here forever and that's it. Not everybody follows that path. And I got no problems with Scott at all. No, I sit here. A a move, not much not often, but but I, I really genuinely respect people who who are committed. They stay where they are. And these people, I've always a really happy with it. This is where this you're not going to talk somebody that from this area into believing made rather be somewhere else. Sure. Well, I was talking to your folks that you work with here on the show, and they said, hey, look this spot. Whenever we come here for this show, they show up maybe more so than anybody else. And the fans support is great. But here's the thing again, everybody's different and within the SEC there are different challenges and sometimes people individuals, it's not the place. It's not the situation. Individuals need a new challenge and so everybody's got their own path. They got to take the. It's exactly true. We'll speak to it some other time I want. I do want to ask you about the guy who's now in that seat. Because he inherited a great situation narrative, but media days was exactly that everything was going well gets the big early season win, and then the wheel seemingly come off last weekend to seems to me that he's got the pressure on him tomorrow night. I think he does. There's a lot of pressure and therefore, if you win this game and you're back on track and beat Florida against your former coach here, then it's a huge statement. I think it's, I think it's both a consequence and an opportunity game for Joe more hit. Whichever way it goes. I think it's a statement game for either coach now specifically to Joe, you know, I think the fan base a lot of it. It's like it's one thing to lose to Kentucky on the road. There were good football team. It's one thing to lose an SEC game on the road. But in this case offensively it was about as bad as it could be. You know, sixteen penalties at six false starts in the game. Most of those in the first half, you're constantly you had what twenty yards rushing from a guy who's going to be the ultimate leading rusher in the SEC quarterback what happened. It was about as bad as it could be on offense. So therefore it really can't be much worse this week on offense. It will be better. We'll be at home. And so I think there's just a great opportunity for him to kinda get all the momentum back and shoulders, at least in terms of fan base with one win this week. Dan Mullen that story has played out significantly. We had Joe more hit on earlier in alluded to it met wide, is our guest. I don't know, Mike, you do, but I mean, he could just read the concern on his face. That's how much about Dan Mullen and the atmosphere more about what what didn't go. Right..

"This is the Paul finebaum show our three podcast. Welcome back. We're live in starkville on a great late September day, mood, calm that will not be the case tomorrow night, and we'll talk a lot about Florida. Mississippi State a little bit later with a former quarterback of the BULLDOGS. We'll talk to the outstanding women's basketball coach who been to the final four nearly one or national championship the president li- going on on this campus, but we're not going to forget the callers and Carter is up next good afternoon Carter. Hey, Paul, thanks to my call VR in route to air to starkville and traffic here in Tuscaloosa right now of getting ready to see the Gators play on call and get your opinion on having seen both of these teams. Kentucky, where do you see the point and what do you think we each need to do? Get out with a win second thing. Do you think there's any forethought in hiring Scott stricklin then get Dan Mullen from Mississippi State and then third thing, and then I'll hang up new or more importantly, mortgage spears have any recommendation for where to eat when we get in starkville and just a little bit. Thanks, I'll hang up now. Yeah. Starkville has a couple of really outstanding and well known restaurants. I'll defer to Marcus because I, I think I've eaten there. One of them Marcus is eaten and all of them and continues to eat it all of them all day long. Let me let me stop on the Scott stricklin question because I do not believe that someone at Florida said to themselves, let's hire Scott strict. One with the idea of bringing Dan Mullen back. I think Jeremy Foley. Whom I saw last night by the way is eminently qualified to to have been able to land Dan Mullen. I think that's a job that Dan Mullen would have gone to whether Germany had been the AD or whether Scott and I just. Yeah, it just worked out that way. Jeremy surprise some people year ago when he announced he was stepping down, he's still very active down there and and Scott is just a highly thought of incredibly well like athletic director. Everyone here knows that and in Scott Scott went through a process. Dan Mullen was wooed by couple of schools. He could have gone to Tennessee. If you remember turn that one down, Florida was also interested in chip Kelly. There were interested in Scott frost. They ended up with Dan Mullen good call, though. Appreciate a Carter. Thank you very much. Slim is up next good afternoon, slim. Hey, paul. Man having our first cool afternoon in the fall, having a great time down here in starkville. To your because you know our call's earlier this year started up travel ban from my hometown. Yes, at I forgot to tell you that the start center for Alabama was for my hometown to John Oland. Then realize, well, thank you for sharing, hey, said Farrow told. Is freshman. If they were with you before years, they win the national championship. He's. I used to be there. Pro-choice down there. Listening come to Alabama and your play for national championship. You go to a good bowl game and and and it we worked pretty effectively swim. You're absolutely right. Well, thank you for sharing that. Do appreciate it and hope to talk against sin. Adam is up next Adam. Thank you very much and good afternoon. Moated coming off the dick takeaway game from Tennessee. What do you think of realistic expectations for Pelotas, Ethan. And do you think this game is more about belief they frame or the Florida. That's a good question. I think fully paid Franks. Has been really the impetus for the Gators and I think tomorrow night he's going to be critical not to state the obvious, but the Mississippi State defensive line is, is is what that team's all about..

"But if you're talking soft, there's there's no doubt that when you looked at the line of scrimmage, Kentucky lined up against Florida and the swamp and beat the ever living. You know what out of them. I mean, that was mulling on both sides of the line of scrimmage, Florida. Our came out soft with all that said, Peter, you're talking about a three point game where you're talking about a four point game because we went for two and think about the plight call. We have second in more on the forty wickets still get a first down and won't call a pass, and the guy gets sick, so you could put you, could you could you could blame a little bit? I mean, a little bit on culture. That's not a good play call for your quarterback. I mean, us all that guy, mental Kaufman, throw it away, and I putting them all down damn was signature your day. Give me that playback and we're talking about twenty one twenty one at the end of the game. Teeter. So I don't wanna hear how soft we are. Gonna hit about twenty minutes tackles. I don't wanna hear about scrimmage because at the end of the day, in any Thomas football game, you're talking about two or three planes away from winning the game in the media and gotten his trash in trying to work. My team is. So we've really, you're talking about two plays difference. I mean, you're talking about a third and sixteen you could look touchdown pass. That is. So are you kidding me? Poor, our level that's record about in scramble in gets you out of position, Lance, here's where we come. Lance whole damn burning hold up lands. This is where we come full circle because we disagree, I think I think Florida was soft in a game and they got punched in the mouth bow. Here's what we do agree in the fact that I think this is Dan Mullen trying to clean up the message. Jim mcelwain left in Gainesville and yes, if I'm buying stock, I think Dan Mullen will have success in Gainesville. All right. He's going to put that in a better spot than it's been in in a long time. I believe in Dan Mullen the coach, and this is the other thing too. Lance and I a roll because we're up against the break. My is a perfect phone call to get me into this about Mississippi State fans. I saw it a lot of Mississippi. State fans love. Just absolutely love the fact that Dan Mullen lost to Kentucky, right? They were just there were going crazy. They were like how this is what you get Dan, and I can't wait until you come down to starkville and you deserve this, stop it. Okay, flat out, stop it every single smart, Mississippi State fan. I know and there's a lot of them. I love that fan base and I've been to war with you guys in saying that Mississippi State is underrated and they deserve more credit, but you need to stop this thing about hating Dan Mullen. Okay. Without Dan Mullen that program that team that you're Charing on right now right here that just walked up on k. state that teams not there. Okay. The team you had in two thousand fourteen that was number one in the country for a couple of weeks that teams not there. You'll love Dak Prescott guess what? Without Dan Mullen. That doesn't happen without Dan Mullen the team that Joe. Or head has inherited is not there without Dan Mullen does football facilities are not there, and it's the same thing about Scott stricklin as well. The ethic director who went to Florida. A lot of people go in all Scott's to get this. And that guess what? Without Dan and Scott working together, Mississippi say football is not nearly as good as where it's at some sick and tired of Mississippi State fans that small fraction of you that do not appreciate what Dan Mullen did to that program because without Dan Mullen. All right. And without Scott stricklin add there in starkville this program is nowhere close to where it's at right now, so you can have you can be excited and listen. That's Desa ticket..

"We probably won't have a completely different ideas noctural though willie new now it it seems like they're losing the off to hospital but this is the part that that you know i know john kerry the new 88 tennessee would probably not prefer to have to change coaches his first year because it every agee knows when you hire a football coach your clock starts yeah so i don't think he wants to fire which jones but i just don't see them winning enough games to be able to make a case for keeping him if they play like they did against georgia unless they had a massive turnaround and nothing we've heard out of knoxville this week suggest that's going to happen they're not going to win enough so you you have a schedule that believe itself carolina next week at alabama yet everything but alabama's winnable but not playing like the way right you played against georgia and and not what you win over south carolina does what for nothing nothing it it keeps she gives you a chance to go to tuscaloosa if you lose that game you got to do within a real like why here's the thing they want to keep that recruiting class together they had a heart it was number six in the in the 247 composite as of early this week so they want to keep it together but guess what if they start losing some games that they're quote unquote not supposed to lose all those rival coaches against repentance lewis gary if you lose gone anyway if you lose your south carolina what what are you what are you going to say about going to see alabama exactly what's the commitment start peeling off there's no reason to keep hold of the guy on your holding on to the guy so you keep that recruiting class together you're is plugged in maybe more so than anyone in the game so let's for instance say he loses next week and the job of comes open at the end of the year.

"I don't like those odds on on the flip side really like that you have about four or five different guys on that alabama offense that can rush for a hundred yards again i think that that text saint him defense that has been so good against the run is is going to get exposed this week against alabama finally here in gainesville let's see where the former gator all american has to say about homecoming the against ellen here this is this is scary game i i've been warning gator fans all week long just because lsu lost detroit it doesn't mean that the florida's going to have their way with them in florida really doesn't hadn't had their way with anybody in in a long time so i i think that this is a game with lsu having a ton of talent on the roster you look at the way they've recruited over the last couple of years there's some guys near they can play the problem has been in my opinion that that uh coach joe has gotten involved two months with the coordinators you're paying those guys a bunch of money let them go ahead and do what they want to do if they want to shift in motion on offense let him go ahead and do that i think that's something that will see from out s use offenses the some improvement you get there are williams back you get theories is guys back in some capacity offensive line starts to get a little bit more healthy i think this is a competitive football game but in the end i think florida's able to run the football they've been good in developing an identity on that office of line since that michigan to buckle so i think running the football take a lot of pressure off the quarterback much like georgia's name plans been all season gets lord of the win but it's a tightly contested with.

"Florida and then auburn in successive or cb george in successive weeks i think this is a game that i've been impressed with georgia more morsel of anything with the consistency he know they they've played consistent across the board they've their defense is just as dominant as any in the country in fact we'll talk about that tonight comparing georgia's defence with the auburn in alabama is very similar defense is with the reproduction so far this year but i think this is a game that georgia dominates vanderbilt not going to be able to do much against that that d and then certainly been impressed with the elephants of game plan with georgia protecting jake from not asking him to do too much they all sorts of line is really played well this year allowing that free headed monster of running backs to get going downhill again this is a mismatch that i think george wins very easily obama member them they had the texas anm people trying to dredge up all memories of five years ago when a and i'm one and toast karusa last year it was really a good game until the fourth quarter when alabama pulled away what gives it kyle field this is kind of the the polygraph for a texas and every year when they get a chance to hear these starts in in run into alabama kinda diverts the direction of their season i think that's the case here i i've been very impressed with texas anm the improvement that they've made bouncing back from that fourth quarter struggle against ucla but you look at what texas anm has done well the offensive line has improved they've been able to run the football a little bit more and certainly the defense has been able to stop the rumble those are terrible matchups against alabama we know that nobody can run the football against alabama's defense and an offense of line is going to have a hard time against the front seven for for alabama and certainly kelam mind if he has to throw the football the beach if he's a onedimensional quarterback.
