This week's idea comes for mike stanley who writes me. On frederick dot com. Do you listen to music. When doing tastings curious on your thoughts about pairing albums and music a mike is a man after my own heart. I have been talking about pairing music suburban for probably about five to eight years. In fact one of the kentucky bourbon affairs. I did a panel where i had people. Listening to lionel ritchie at people listening to metallica and like different types of country and we would taste the same bourbon and they'd be like wow the bourbon tastes differently when you listen to music music and so i very much do believe that what you listen to can impact and change the way you taste actually. It's not a belief it's scientifically proven. In fact i listened to a hanson. Song bob pap that song. I mean it drives me crazy. Absolute that song. I hear it. I walk out the room. It drives me crazy by force myself to listen to that song. Drink a william weller. One time and it was disgusting. When i tasted it. Turn the music offline to something. I i love and the william larue weller tasted like it normally does. Which is you know pretty beautiful but so if you wanna go toward the pure science of it is i. It's fascinating like how much we can be influenced by what we listen to but in terms of pairing. You know what. I have to tell you this is this is a this is a hobby of mine. This is something i love to do. I like to really pair some isla scotches to to Heavy metal like slipknot And lamb of god. I love that kind of like heavy sound With that dpd flavor. That makes it. Just kinda smokey all over your palate. I love that and with the really great bourbon. Let's say for roses limited edition. Small batch I like You know. I like to kind of like an uptempo. Nineteen eighties like hairband. You know maybe it's a ballad. I just i kind of like. I liked the songs. That kinda move. Back and forth as the whiskeys moving back and forth so it is definitely a fun hobby. I would love to know. Mike what your favorite pairings are. Because i mean. I think it's a conversation that we can have all day to be honest with you and as most things with bourbon there is no wrong answer and no wrong preference by definitely. I cannot drink bourbon. And listen to. Bob can't do it and that's this week's above the char. Hey if you're like mike and you have an idea for above the charm. Make sure you hit me up on. Redman dot com. That's fred manege dot com until next week chairs. Welcome back to another episode of bourbon. Pursuit the official podcast of bourbon. So you man of the people, even his politics. Cute, very, very, very man of the people. He was not. He was not one of those sounds like a great guy. Those ivory tower guys know about the way you want to form a glass of scotch. You'll knock it back right now. He would for sure. Give you one more. Two were playing golf one day and He would always try to help me with my game. I'm hopeless Volume hopeless. You only don't hate at But I okay, no cops. In the six inch move that your hand makes from the peak to the beginning of your downswing. That is the most important six inches in golf. And as he said, Sam Snead would tell me slow at the junction slow at the junction. You gotta pass that on Now You've got to keep slow with the junction alive. Teo. That's I'm not going to have a record album is going to be called slow at the junction. That's a record I'd buy. I'm like automatically interested in the record named that. Valentine's Day is approaching L.. And so as you know we we've already said you do so many things but we wanted to dig back a number of years and talk with you about data a love story and it's been a request from our listeners. Have you talk about this so thank you so much for being here to discuss to discuss that crazy thing. I did a long time ago. That's they make the rounds plans to listen. I'm still happily married with the outcomes. Oh comes you won. You won the game. I hacked one. We know you've told the story a million times but for our listeners. Ars who haven't heard. Is there a really simple. Here's what you missed on. Here's what version of my love life. The thing it that would be fantastic. Let me give you this on. Hold on hold on previously on data a love story so actually the story it does involve some singing drunk singing but I will explain excellent so the short end of the story story is that I had been living overseas for many years in Japan. And you know I was thinking at some point. I'M GONNA WANNA get married and and settled down. And that was part of the impetus for me moving back to the US. But the when I moved back to the states I I had a boyfriend who was pretty serious at that point and he asked me to marry him. I had said I don't know man we haven't been going out that long but let's think about it was very passionate very exciting thing that then it ended and it ended because it turns out he was cheating on me he had another girlfriend was which was super awesome. Let me tell you he marry him while he did. He proposed like every girl wants after drinking beer and eating the pizza in pajamas in an honor otherwise like totally unremarkable evening. He ripped the label off of the pizza box. Unlike fashioned it into a ring. which was you know? I figured a lot. So that wasn't like my spidey senses weren't up at that point until he like looked at me with it and I was like oh I don't know I and then I was like A. Oh no now. It's been like three months now. It's not appropriate. You have another girlfriend while he didn't at that point but he definitely you know we were. We were not matched. Well when I found all of this out it was pretty bad ad. I didn't have another place to live. We were living together. Obviously you know at some point. It's like doc why I'm supposed to start dating again. I don't know how to do that exactly because I missed my twenty S. You know all the like the time that I would have been doing all that dating. I was in a different country In my sister and my mother and everybody said try online dating and on the face of it it made sense to me because there was a higher statistical probability of meeting somebody online that was likely to be single. I thought but then relying on serendipity right wandering around bars or wherever and hoping to meet somebody so that made sense. I started going out on dates with an open mind and they were pretty awful like every one of them was pretty horrible and got to the point. They were so bad. Yeah I I feel you rent. This is all happening in two thousand five so this goes back ways but it was so bad and I was complaining. And everybody's everybody's like you're so picky like you know you just have to like relax. Your stand not relaxed standards but what do you expect and I was likes likes. I don't know I like I expect not have a guy suddenly talk about how impotent he is while smoking a bowl like with cops. It's like fifty feet away. What the fuck? You don't think that's that pales in comparison to the story from Your Ted talk about the dinner Erbil. That was over at some point. I started collecting data and all of these dates is nobody believe me and I started accounting different things that I thought were horrible and they range from like. I don't like high fives in general. I think it's a stupid way to express your enthusiasm. It hurts spike. You have to put your arm and the people smell. Now that just wafts the smell in your direction and uniquely American thing that's gotten past around the world but it's going to spread germs. It's like if you're like enthusiast if you WANNA touch me like put your hand on my knee like there are ways to do it. That are less I don't know like sweaty and gross and potentially smelly offensive so we can do better than high fives. I do better. Can we get rid of handshakes while we're at it. That would be good to do that. Too but yeah so I was counting. I was counting stuff. Like people making me. High five them and simple misuses of Grammar I. I started collecting all this data and I started running all these correlations to prove to my friends in my family that it wasn't me like I was able to so at some point. Tell you the correlation between the type of alcohol being drunk and that night and the how quickly a sexual reference would come up and like SPA Scott's drinkers overwhelmingly started talking about like kinky sex within the first like very very quickly into the date on So these online dating sites at the time and this is pre okay cupid and you know pretender promised Algorithm ick matching matching. which would assume that they are using the data that are being put in by us? We answer questions. And that their matching thing that data on the other end and extensively maybe even looking at behavioral data which means like. Try and understand how you click and what you're clicking around on the site eight versus what you're saying you want but it was pretty clear the night of the The the infamous night infamous night That that is not what was happening so I show up at this restaurant. This guy is knows everybody now. He's on a first name. Basis with the maitre d' he knows the waiters is all very into food really's super into line. He certainly had a lot of detailed opinions on all menu items so I was like whatever man he was not my type. I knew that moments after meeting but I figured whatever we'll have may be friends right. We'll have dinner meet each other so we go. If you're this meal and he's ordered like a bottle of wine he ordered. A couple of appetizers you ordered entree. He ordered for me. You know at the time I was on a budget I had to budget myself and we were at a restaurant. That was a little nicer. I would not have ordered all that anyways. Let alone the budget that I was living on so we get through this dinner. He excuses himself to go to the bathroom. Bill comes and he never returns. I and that dinner was It was pretty close up to the amount of rent that I owed that much that month. I can't believe it. It was over a thousand dollars. Is that right. Yeah it it.

Oh, yeah. This happened yesterday. I wanted to get into this again, it was impact is about this time the show yesterday. I got a call from a listener asking why the police had to use deadly force in the case in Edmond was this Monday. I think Monday afternoon, in fact, I was coming back from my lunch break, and I take a lunch break, I kind of work a split shift here because I do morning duty, and then I do afternoon duty and in the middle. I try to go home and take a little break there and get something e when I was coming back from that. And here came a police car. And then here came a fire truck and then another fire track. I mean, I was I no sooner had I decided I was going to start driving, and then I had to pull right back over because another image vehicles pulling in and then here came an ambulance and another ambulance, and they were all going in the other direction. And I was like, wow. I what's going on down here by Santa Fe. So I come on into work and come to find out. There was an officer involved shooting. And we now know more about it. But I had a call on this program. Asking why did the police have to use the force that they used? With this particular citizen Edmond police held a press conference on the events that led up to that shooting on Monday afternoon. Turns out the suspect that was shot and later died was a seventeen year old friends close to the suspect said his name was Isaiah Lewis. And after a call to nine one one describing him as beating up on one of two girls moments later blocks away from the first call there were reports of a man running in the street, hopping backyard, fences, caller said the man was naked police searched for more than an hour before finally spotting him in the home of a complete stranger and Edmund officer was forced to shoot after a fight broke out between Lewis and the police a teaser had been deployed, but it was not successful. One officer was injured suffering a head injury. He has by the way since been released from the hospital. Both officers involved are on pay leave witnesses say they saw Lewis throw drugs over one of the fences police did confirm they found drug paraphernalia. So. Why was deadly force using used in this particular arena and the caller yesterday specifically said in one of the things you go through as a policeman is learning how to defuse situations learning how to bring people down without using deadly force. Well, I'll explain now that I know more because I didn't comment on it yesterday because I didn't know more that's next on NewsRadio one thousand KT. Okay. I also know that Beth Myers is in the newsroom, we had a couple.

So when meeting happens in Buenos salaries at cheat twenty who you won't see with the president the United States will Larry Kudlow, John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, Steve Mnuchin Wilbur Ross, Robert lighthizer will be there as well. Amongst the military interesting how bad lineup. I mean. We know the last time, you know, they sent that delegation over to China. We know that Navarro was probably one of the wrenches and why the talks they're sort of broke down. So it'll be interesting to see how this new team is able to carry the trait. Hawks won't be. There would probably be a statement, given the fact that Robert line now, we'll be that. But I imagine it's Peter Navarro that in the view of many people about agonized Chinese. Yeah. It's it's I think it's less about ideology and more about the bedside manner. A little bit of upside to that story. Tomorrow. So Tom Kaine is ran away to go and start cooking the Turkey. Apparently he's doing that early. And of course, Tom, and I live in the same building. So tomorrow what we do every year is is half thanksgiving together. I know the last five sentences are so John I've learned so much about you. Yes. More than more than I knew. And the couple of years I've trying to change that exchange tomorrow for the full sable future is a lady called Racquel race. And she's the first ever female national brand ambassador from Callan. Good morning to you. Recounting? So walk me through this. How do you get people like me? Millennials females to say, Tom, you know, what I'll have a McCallum knee with you. Well, first mcadam is delicious. If you haven't tried it before, but there are a few different ways wearing gauging you can see like a self or not typically Scott drinkers into the category again with women. Millennials. There's a there's a few as wearing gauging these consumers there is one smart way, which took about in a bit. But just first of all I mean with any new category. I mean scotch and particularly seen as is seen as a no man's drink is kind of antiquated. There's not a lot of education around it. So as the world's leading single malt scotch what constantly challenging ourselves to establish new ways to bring the mcadam today. I've taught ordinance and engaging with new drink is and developing long-term success for them so long of the days of the stereotypical whiskey. Tastings maccagnan, we keep education at the forefront. When considering how to get new drinkers into the category makes approachable we're doing that in new innovative ways, very massive education. So for me, the more, you know, the more you understand the more you could appreciate especially with something like the cabinet. Well established in eighteen twenty four. There's a lot of history tradition behind the brand itself. And with whiskey scotch whisky. So we're doing things like we just had a tour in nine cities of something called the mcallen manner, which is a multi sensory education tasting taking you through the different elements that make the whiskey itself, and that is a memorable experience in as their tasting the whiskey, and it's kind of bringing the brand tonight. So that's a great way of doing it where we'll say when we don't stop brandy distillery in June. We had the first forty virtual reality group experience in Grand Central station, kind of taking people on the journey to the distillery. And again, this is me and knowing and seeing the change in in the in the classroom, whereas younger, a younger audience and more female driven is because of this story telling and people wanting to be engaging and experience, but I'd say for you, maybe. Tomorrow. When you go sounds house. You'll be able to ask him for some MAC and cheese. So won't be through this MAC and cheese remain. Yes. Cheese Callanan chains. What's that? Exactly sound like something. I would normally. Right. So well, first of all, I say MAC and cheese and everyone's thinking and the MAC is mcallen disease, but it's very very very clever with it. Whether you only scotch brand that could really get away with saying, MAC and cheese as a pairing. So mcalinden cheese is is actually a really great waiting gauge again news drink into the cats. We because it's a familiar concept, which is typically wine and cheese. Right, which people not about it's not so common to say scotch and cheese. Well, again for us, MAC and cheese. The actually the pairing is goes in my opinion, Hummel opinion nonbiased. Feel better together reason being so you have cheese a fatty products cheese, and she's in she's a whiskey. Both a time honored tradition. Takes a long time and a lot of effort to make. So there's there's that there's well with wine cheeses or fatty product it.

Governor Jerry Brown he asked his state legislature to consider the same darn thing attacks on drinking water to, fix polluted water That legislation in California Is being strongly considered right now Opponents say that this additional tax on tap water would make a basic necessity harder to afford Scott drinker he's director of state projects at the nonprofit tax foundation he said that thirteen states already tax residential water utilities through general sales tax other states like Washington have attacks on bottled water Now this New Jersey Bill it's been introduced it has not made its way through committee And or the, state house and. Or the state Senate but there you go New jersey Would like to tax the hell out of your, tap water Merica New Jersey Democrats I'm not familiar with, New Jersey Republicans so I don't know how hard New Jersey Republicans might. Fight this stuff But the point is, this the overall point still holds we have a government that's really big We have a government that's too big We have government. We can't afford And so. Our elected officials At all levels Just keep taking more of our money to pay for all of this government That we can't afford and the bigger government gets man it's a snowball It's an absolute snowball effect.
