"That's an easy position at go, try to find somebody, but I'll be interested to see how good they think this team is in whether they want to give up future asset to try to get somebody who's not a stopgap. Pardon me was hoping that they that they were going to get Crawford before Crawford got signed Jamal, who I thought that would have been that would have been mad fan. That would've been fun. I thought, let's seven years ago. Let's get some shots up. But the Spurs have done the thing before were like, if Tony wasn't playing well or he wasn't playing at all, and they just threw my new out. Their point guard like we're fine with with the three playing point guard, we'll be okay, lead Tamar, Rome point guard. I mean, he's he's averaging a career high and assists by a large amount like he'll be fine. We'll be fine. We're get. I think the west, you know, the last couple years and really for most of the century, we've always had. It's the the narrative Zoe's been the west is really good. Oh my God, the west is so loaded. I don't feel like the west is necessarily loaded this year, but it's much deeper. The owners really only two bad teams, and even those team Sacramento and Phoenix are, you know, they have talent, they're frisky. They have guys who were top five lottery picks and guys who can, you know not roll over, but man, you go down the line and it's like all these teams are good at home. They have guys who, you know, you go down the line like Denver's got Yokich New Orleans. Scott Davis Portland's got Lillard Memphis says a Colleen Gazon Jaren Jackson whose look fantastic the clippers. They got culinary back gallon areas like he's like, Michael, Myers. See, we have. Maybe we thought he died eight. Yeah, he's twenty pounds later. He's got a nice tan. He's looking like very Galloway. Again, the dodge looks great, Dallas, Utah has they're all team Minnesota's loaded. And then you look at the bottom for right now. Although there's only been three games that it's Houston, Sacramento, the Lakers and. Okay, see what a, what a fucking racist is going to be..

"I'm Samantha lean. Perfect. And I'm the host of the Christian Science monitor's new podcast series called perception gaps. I'm joined in the studio today by my producer. Dave Scott Davis been involved in perception, gaps from the very beginning idea. Phase and has helped me make it a reality. Hi, dave. They Sam over the last few months we've been working on this series. And we're excited to finally make it public. We've got ten up and the plan is to publish one every week starting October fifteenth, and we'll go through December each episode looks at a topic where public perception doesn't line up with reality. Some of the topics include perceptions on crime political polarization, poverty and gun violence. We really try to cover a whole spectrum of issues before we launched this series. We thought we'd give everyone some background on why we're doing this and what you can expect. It's a bit of a behind. And the scenes look into some of our conversations. All right. So Sam as you've put this perception, gaps podcast together, you've interviewed a lot of different people. Are you starting to see certain patterns? Are you seeing any are you getting any takeaways or a hominids? Yeah. I mean, honestly every episode has had that in some capacity. I think for me I've really realized that in tackling this series. Like, I don't know everything which can be humbling. But it's also I guess I'm I'm so grateful to the guests for sharing their perspectives. Because that's the whole point is that what we think we know we don't often actually know. And so I think to to go through this whole series. Then have each episode be about a different topic as been really powerful to hear from these people like kind of say time and time again that like it comes down to being empathetic. It comes down to not stigmatizing certain. Issues that comes down to giving people the benefit of the doubt and being willing to kind of lay your own pride aside. And actually, listen, there's some very compelling journeys along the way, and they're taking they're taking the listeners on that journey that some of these people have gone where they've closed that gap exactly because they've found in their own life, whether it's because of their career or because of their own life situations, it's really cool to kind of. I guess I guess feel what it feels like to be them momentarily. You know, even just throughout the course of the this Episode old. one of the things I heard along the way too was pretty often. The media is the is in the middle of amplifying the gap making a bigger making it worse. Yes. Can you talk a little bit about how that how you change that? Or maybe how this podcast can change that. Yeah. And and it's true. I mean in almost every single episode, you someone brings up the media, you know, and how you know, the media is great we need it. But at the same time, I think it's important. Also, you know being members of the media ourselves here at the monitor to to really listen and hear some of these things. And I think what happens is the media is often looking for the big stories. So they're looking for the things that are the outliers. We as in the media often kind of extreme exactly go to the extremes, and what we miss in doing that constantly is there's this huge middle area and in not sharing. Some of the stories and perspectives in the middle. That's where these perception gaps slide because if you hear all the time, for example, episode one is about crime, if you hear about crime all the time, you're gonna soom and think that it's much more common than it really is. But if you look at the reality, and you look at this disticts, we are actually safer, and and crime has gone down a lot. So yeah, how as the media? And I think for the monitor. That's why this podcast is is so perfect for us to be doing because we we really try to operate in that space, we try to operate in that middle ground and one of the things I've noticed to Sam as that. As you go through each episode. What you're finding is your taking a fear or misperception and actually. Leading us down to why that fear isn't real..

"I felt like they were trying to show you like, hey, again, the first five minutes just bureau shots things from the news in our time when when the president elect comes on, he's saying things that have happened in our time, twenty seventeen hundred eighteen. And then once we get into the movie is where because you see may and she's almost she. Mariscal home may. That's when you just figured it out. On may. Because I don't know why you don't remember from batboys, like that's what I think. No, no, no way. She's not. Shit, you right. Cousin, my cousin. At least what I would have said may do. I will say though, I think it is. I think it's like thirty minutes of setup. And then maybe like the rest of the rest of the hour is the purge, but it does. They do sit in that setup for for why? Because I don't like scary, movies. I love the set up. I was like. Like, okay, we're getting to know these. Each trying to figure out their own grind. It's nice to get this picture of what we're doing in the hood and like it. It had layers and be, you know, and and I was just like, okay, I'm into these people. And yeah, I will say complexity. The one the I liked and this again is endorsing drug dealers, but I do like we had a regular who was doing something for the community. Like I started watching Ozark or some shit like that. And I'm like, did do a drug dealer, but we feel bad for him. Same breaking bad, which is the show, everyone knows. I love. So it was all these movies where these evil white news, sympathetic where I'm like, we're always made to feel bad for black drug dealer. He's like, oh, this dude is a criminal. He's got to go to jail even so much. So the lead actress with him earlier. I got home and you know what? The fuck you doing. Pretend like we all know what's happening. I liked it. We had a drug dealer say today who sympathized with even even early on. Yeah, He right. right. They did. Have they had the scene with. The actress name is Scott Davis who played Neo, that's her name in the movie, right? Yeah, we're she, you know, she did like get at him for being a drug dealer and like. And like like Rosa and pretty hard, and he kinda like took that in, I love that scene. Yeah, that was like a really good. It's like so setting up like the relationship between them. You had her relationship with her brother Isaiah. You had the three wise men who I love that thing. See Harris I, I wish he was in more so man. So great. Sicher g I used to man. I was such a fan Fan of the. of the practice was awesome. He was so cool. And and like him in that one movie though. 'cause they made them the bag because he can't be Dr skin. Tyler, Perry movie movies. Yeah. Oh man, you can't be good doing Taliban. We may have dark skin. I honestly did that ruin his career. Telling you everything changed after that. It was like eight may Kimberly lease. The three wise men were great. I actually know the names of the people who played Yulon's to dudes like second in command and stuff, but they were great too. I really liked them. I just remember being like, all these, all these are awesome, and they shine to even more because of how in my opinion, crappy, the dialogue was in the white characters in that control room. And there's some, partly because it's something you said address about about them, always giving them explanations of like trying to explain well, this is why we're doing this and this what we're if all of your lines are explications. That's just not good. True. Crazy because the whole thing about that even like, I think the setup is fine. We got, we got skeletons or we meet him. We see him sliced. We We see see him him just. just slice a little Greta, just crazy. I was like, yeah, this bra, you just go home. Honestly, I just kept saying somebody stop that nigger. What's the name of Giovan, whatever. When he had the gun on him. I as a black man, I was like, don't hurt, but as but as always where it was like, please kill that kill him. Yes, I don't want him in the rest of this is terrified. Also my bet I sort of believe..

"The united states where the league is growing yet still fragile she goes to countries where paychex never awry flimsy teams fold overnight in the players them just competing against their opponents but they have to battle against chauvinism within the culture which the christ the very notion of women playing sports in the first place the chapter on russian football is just a particular horror to read oaks in them is a incredible storyteller i was deeply moved by a chapter on england international pharrell williams who journeyed from homelessness to become england's most capped player and if you care one iota about women's football start what you doing all that a sport now both to understand the true state of the game and to support ox in a in a work base is an essential greet wrote i think put in the bulls market this week you didn't i haven't bull i haven't purchased a single thing other than a cup of coffee and a green juice or week what can a green juice david regular drain geez i think it's cold i think is called a kale atop which i get from a little green juice establishment just nimick you take it through your mouth towards it go down below take up through mamathe either secret truman nostril controversial so i'm sorry i just don't have enough they haven't purchased at a thing of spam a life on a plane to be doing a lot of parenting i just don't have anything to put an employer in this we live a simple monks like i absolutely do roach visit men in blazes dot com to sign up for a newsletter which we produce with our partner guinness got a new issue going out this friday follow us on twitter at many places that embassy davies at roach bennett on instagram at many places that embassy i'm scott davis facebook men and blades it's you know send singer ravens the crap out of so you noisy malice and men in places a gmailcom vendrell roach war paying was to six but tumble i like snap golds win.

"Dr davis scott davis did you you have you had hung yeah yeah i was really good actually he he sums it up in this one part right after in the film after neil bernard talks about how diabetes his action are caused by sugars caused by saturated fat and then kenya rumor that the way says is a sugar dozen caused plaques sugar doesn't in any kind of done ghaznavi some slated for you does increase inflammation thea it doesn't like lock your uh the where he said i came murray d he did this laundry list of what sugar dozen too it's not good noone said it's good but like how spare c we we address fracking we address other things that are happening and whereas we address this we compare it to eating animal for for this film eating animal products what's fracking and qiao spear see the comparison fracking to in why culture there is no comparison of how much waters consumed are taken from it and polluted the same thing happens in this film yes sugars bad but how bad as compared to meat and dairy um so so when you have these doctors who saved sugars bad yes but there's there's again there's this no comparison to to saturated fat and specially from animal proteins in animal products and again we just we kept coming back to the science now had be based on heart science until yeah you look at the studies in cycle what are the studies actually sane and the research is saying and and use them it really exit pretty interesting because even groups like american diabetes association will say if you look at their site and you look at the dig a little bit they'll say oh yeah high carbohydrate diet actually doesn't cost diabetes encourage all of their supporters in england with diabetes to be careful of your sugar intake because clearly if you have diabetes you should be concerned sugar intake but it's not what causes diabetes causes diabetes his your insulin system not working because his clogged up with.
