"Of folks weighing in on the action, it borders talking sex line. You can 2855612616 20 phone or text got a lot of text. We'll start with Sam's text. Referring to John Kasich, former governor of Ohio is the turn called Globalist. Biden a unifier, Really. Harris will be president before February 2021 Sam, a frequent listener and texture to the show. Mom? Yes. Because Trump's not a Republican never has been from the 26 to know. Can't vote for Biden USA would be broken when I'm having one of being thrown away. Biden would never be a president anyway. Would be Nancy Pelosi pulling all the strings, Doc from the Northwest side. This guy's a rhino, just like Romney. All right, and let's you have such short memories. You not remember how great to come to county was before the cold. It was better than ever and use a history. You can't do that with liberal ideas. And let's see one more test before going phone lines. I'm a Republican and plan on voting for buying one of my witness over the last four years of just plain what I have witnessed over the last four years, just plain embarrassing. I have zero respect for our current president's lack of integrity and fake values. I would prefer to have another Republican option. Obviously, don't Things were so bad he just needs to go. And I should give Bill from Burlington. A little shout out here Voting Republican and stand by the Republican values. Republicans believe in lower taxes that's true legal is opposed it legal immigration that is true. Would you let someone into your home illegally? School choice. Pro life freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. Republicans are closer to the ideals of the Constitution. That's bill from Burlington. All rights, you khun Way inaccurate markets talking sex line, 85561616 20. It's go to scat calling from South Walk. Hi, Scott. You're in Good morning, Steven. Thank you. Taking my phone calls. My take on this topic is that I would do that. Back in 2016 hours of big time Case supporter. I thought that he was the class of the field and I bought it back in 2016. I want that one big mistake that Came out of state Wisconsin. Was that the Wisconsin GOP party, the Wisconsin GOP elite, Whatever back back Ted Cruz, even though it's got to be going, give last stand because the future states at the time were all East Coast states that Ted Cruz was never would never was never going to competed, so my so get back in that time people were talking about they wanted a Hey, Ted Cruz. Whatever, Paul, Right, whatever. Take it off your number that right number that but I think that it's interesting how people have praised whatever public Seop died. And they're they're gone Republican. Whatever. Who have whatever traditional whatever value How would you? How would you identify yourself as a voter Scout? How would you? Would you call yourself a conservative publican? You're Are you a moderate or you? Swing voter? What are you? I can't be a moderate swing voters. Whatever I vote, I vote based on how candidates stand particular issues and also whatever their quality of character. So you never never identified with the party. Correct. I never sent in from the party because because there are things that The Democrats do that. I don't like the Republicans do that. That I don't like, whatever, especially whatever. Especially on the fringes of both of both parties, So I mean, I think that was John Casey had to be last night. Got a lot of meeting had a lot of value, and I hope that that moderate Republicans, whatever who whatever will consider whatever voting for voting for Biden. Cause I think that Biden is a unifier, adding final Bring people together by no respect the attitude of the opinion, whatever different constituents that Donald Trump is nothing more than than demagogy. Alright, thanks for the call Scott Caan from south Market, Let's jump to Jenny calling from manage Walk. Hi, Denny. Hey, thank you for taking my call an independent voter who voted for more Republicans and Democrats. But when I consistently hearing my conservative friends, talk about the budget and the deficit And if you look at it, the majority of the deficit and I mean the vast majority of either happened on the Republican Watch who I voted for, or because of a Republican watch. And I could take you all through it. But you won't give me the tracking wants you What The idea is. It's just a fallacy and I ended up in a texting battle with a friend of mine, and he finally looked it up and said Why don't the Democrats tell me that I would vote for za Great point. Go ahead. Go ahead. Well, it's stunning to me. I don't I'm in independent study it. I care about this. It's stunning to me how many false things both the left and the right belief. And right now there's more. My friends on the right that lead more call stuff in my friends on the left. But it's still stunning that you know you and I can debate whether the Mona Lisa is a beautiful painting. That's personal choice. The death the death. Okay. And you know, there are things that are factually approval. But nobody wants to believe that I could thank you for taking my call. Yeah, and I'm glad you got a chance to kind of explain it there. I mean, as a swing voter, independent voter who who has more friends, He said that Republicans or Democrats, I think that point about the dead is a significant one. If we are all in on Trump If we are consider ourselves Consider Republicans. Republicans, whatever flavor you are. We do tend to overlook things that don't necessarily fit that profile. And we've seen over the last four years. An explosion of deficit not part of the pandemic. Part of it wasn't part of his pre pandemic. But we've overlooked that because the candidates or some people's minds, the party is more important than the policy. I've never thought that way. I can tell you in my long voting career. I think I voted for one Democrat and all the rest Republicans in that long Over how many years that is. Because typically identify with folks who are for small government fiscal conservatism. Who don't willing, Ellie. Just throw money at problems and then never managed the money. They're throwing out those problems. That's why I identify that way. But there's so many different ways to look at this. I'm fascinated by the fact that we have a Republican. Who has now been allowed to give a speech at a DNC think about that for a second. Could that happen next week? I don't know. Quick break back with more of your calls and texts Right here on the teams were.

Virus news when it comes to Europe levels of depression on the increase mandatory masks now, too, and joining us with details. Simon Owen from Fox, one of Simon Hey, morning. Run. Yes, a couple of headlines from over here to bring you this morning And first you mentioned the rates of depression that have been recorded here in the UK, actually, and this is day two. The raises questions about the wider public health costs off this pandemic. Britain is already being hit very hard, the highest Corona virus death rate among major European countries and now the statistics office here is saying that the number of adults reporting some form of depression has doubled since the outbreak began. So it was around 10% in the nine months through to March. But then, when they went back to people in June and asked them how they were doing, that number had gone up to 19% there almost Doubles and particularly vulnerable, according to the data from the statistics office here, people I don't know a young female disabled or short on cash. So generally the question about what this means for people on a wife. It's not just the impact that it had on people in terms of catching the disease, and many people here and around the world have died from it, but also that the wider health in banks as well. And then separately. Yes, You mentioned the mask situation and this is a friend's getting ready for the full people are heading back from summer vacation schools. They're about to go back into session on DH. Who knows what the weather is going to bring as well in some European countries. Fronts among them are alarmed by already a rise in the number of infections of they're seeing each day. Nothing like what you're going through in the spring, at least not at this stage. But the concern is that as the lockdowns have been lifted here that the virus is spreading rather faster than many governments had hoped it would friends. His latest move is that they have announced that masks are going to be required in almost all sad workspaces from next month. If you work in a shared office, if you work in a factory the entire time that you around other people you are going to have to wear a mask. At work. It comes after trade unions and press the government to do more, but it's AH notable escalation in mask rules. As Faras Europe goes, they're pretty common in terms of being required in many European public transport networks on DH indoor public spaces. But to require them in near your work spaces across the whole country, this side of friends that is another step down the past that Europe has been following with face coverings. "It's another thing if they really were never a choice. They were leveraged play and look. It's on one hand. He seemingly came out of nowhere with the idea of being interested in the Lakers once they they created that cap space you could say that that's because they had the cap space and all of a sudden it became a possibility the other thing is before that the other option would be before that you couldn't use the Lakers to fake anybody. It's a it's a hell of a godfather moved by if if if that was what he was doing because Lebron I I was told on that. Saturday Lebron was still like I don't know if he's coming or not. I think we have a chance but I don't know as as this goes longer. I don't know I think maybe it's the chances are getting worse but to that point Lebron thought the Lakers had a chance just interesting though because before they cleared that space you couldn't use the Lakers for leverage in it. Let's say hypothetically purely fake fake way because it wasn't realistic then once they cleared that space that's right around when we started hearing the choir was interested in the Lakers which he may have been but it's also the only way he could have faked it. Well this happens in the movie business all the time with actors attaching themselves ourselves to a certain film where no intention whatsoever of making it strictly to get their needs met on what it is. They're wanting on the other film. I want this actor. I want this actress. We WanNa do this. We need our budget here. You have our budget here okay fine. I'm going to go make this other movie. If you <music> get your bluff called you're in trouble but I know everyone from George Clooney down to me to people below me have all done this move with different levels of success. It's not that big of a stretch in fact it's fairly common practice so I would not put that out of the realm of possibility in the basketball world to which is basically no more than entertainment now like we call it sport but since we cover it year long and we're interested in all these side stories it's W._W._e.. It's sports entertainment and so because of that. I think it's much more likely that these scenarios happen so you're you're supposed to play Solo and you decided now those days are gone. I think it was can't hardly wait was the one that I can't wait. I fake attached myself to yeah yeah which uh I didn't hear it when it was a movie called can hardly wait. I think Ethan started movie and that movie they offered it to me but I didn't WanNa do it but I wanted this other job so I was and they were kind of fooling with who the other actors are going to be. I said no I won't Lillard and they'RE GONNA we're talking to Scott Caan and I knew both guys but I wanna man so I was like are doing this other movie and they're gonNa Lillard and it worked out. It worked out yeah we got. What was the summer catch? Some <hes> might have been before summer some. I don't remember longtime ago the point being if you could do this all I'm saying the LAKER. I think anybody in sports entertainment can get away with these types of moves. I've done it. I I know other actors who have done it. I know athletes who have done it so I don't think it's that big a stretch..

"Absolutely. He absolutely said stick it to the man in. Let's just go out. You know, Kilroy says sixty minutes for I love that movie. Personally, blues is one of my favorite movies of all time. And I've never been a big replacement fan. Even though it was filmed in Baltimore, Maryland. But still for me as like. Johnny walks. And man, he's the one that did to the the youth you to to Billy, Bob. And I think it's funny. My my wife, and I always joke about the scene when they kick Kilmer out. Okay. And so they come back on the field and land harbors, the offensive coordinator on crutches or and they. He overloads one side. You see these people to the fans in the stands like how receives a head what we'll shoot it's just like a four wide receiver said like teams do that. All the time now. Is just how the game is changed. I guess, but no Johnny Marx's, man. That's who I would take whatever who you take it. You know, what for me? I love varsity blues in the theater, I'm a huge Scott Caan fan. I loved tweeter love, Scott Caan and the new Hawaii five o I loved him when he was on entourage for a little bit. He's just great. And I I probably vanderbeek. But for me, let me give you one quote and wish I could say something class, inspirational, but that just wouldn't be our style. Pain heels chicks dig scars, Laurie last forever. Shane Falco, washing sentinels. Right there. Okay. Well, you got three of ask you one stint off of this one. And that is better high school the better high school football movie varsity blues. Or Friday night lights. Friday night lights is true story. It was dramatized key data mine, but at the same time that was very good movie as well. Do you wanna win? Let booby spin put me in coach. Well, you know, what I read the book way before? And I'm not one of those book guys. All right. Those guys the way I talk about the show stranger things with those kids being the same age as I was back in nineteen Eighty-three. These guys were seniors in high school when I was a senior in high school. So it's really cool. And I read the book maybe about a year or two after it came out. I always loved Friday Friday night lights with HD business who were at the book. The movie was good. But for me, I kind of would go Deep Blue's. I mean, look you don't enforce any blues. I mean, you don't have booby Bubis, just great. He's awesome. But you don't have you don't have Tim McGraw get drunk and beat me up either. But if you if you go to the other side, you go to Friday night lights, you get a whipped cream bikini. And that's. Oh, you gotta say for me. Fun movie. That's the thing varsity blues, just pure fun. And there was if you count Billy Bob on a football field with a shotgun shooting. His old football trophies is like the dark moment of the movie, then it's not that bad. But there were some Friday night lights as much more realistic. Some might like that. I when I was in college my fraternity, I don't know why we did this. But for two years like every other Friday night or every Friday that we would probably watch Farsi blues right after dinner before we all went out. And I just love that movie. Love it. I I love everything about it. I think it's awesome. That's a generational movie. You talk to young kids today. They've never even seen it some of every heard of it. It's generational movie. And it's it's phenomenal love it. Absolutely. Love it. Then, you know, remember someone just ruined. Remember the titans?.

So this guy. So we hire his guy. Yeah. There was a reason. Matt Lillard was in twenty-seven movies with me that was my guy. Right. Like, I cast approval and a lot of those films. So I didn't say no other people, right? My boy Scott Caan wanted to be the catcher in summer catch. We all know and love Scott Caan killing it on on magnum PI. Yeah. But Matt was my. Yeah. So of MAC, the par. Sorry scotty. And I didn't even have to say anything. They just knew. Yes. If if he wants it to happen it'll happen. He doesn't have to say anything. Yeah. It'll be interesting to see if that unfolds because that's just you know. I mean, this sport is all about the drama anyway. So it's just add mellow into the mix. It's just going to add even more of a spotlight on this team. So not that it doesn't already have a huge one on it. But everybody likes familiarity in order to like, my mom doesn't want to move back to LA because she has her circle of friends in in Nevada. And is you know, you want people that you're comfortable with who you trust and rely on more than just basketball, but all the other stuff too. It's the reason he brought to way to Cleveland, right? It just didn't work out there. That's the reason he brought them, right? It wasn't to make the team. Great. Yeah. It was to make the team comfortable well to your point when LeBron left to Cleveland in two thousand fourteen look at just some of the role players that he brought with him. Mike Miller played with him James Jones played with him in Miami. Eventually they brought Birdman over all the like three of the guys he played with them a title with. He brought them over because you know, it's funny because when we're talking about the kyri thing this week. Why funches remember I was talking about this was before Kyrie made the comments that night. I'm watch. I mean hear this. Celtics are playing the raptors. And we were talking about the kyri comments about ripping his team. Right. And this is before the may COPA which really wasn't a miracle which is still a shot at his teammates. But it was a male coop until LeBron. And I said, you know, kyri sounds a lot like LeBron. And it reminded me of what I said at the time was, you know, Pat Riley in the Brian left on bad terms. It was icy. And then LeBron goes to Cleveland, and he sounded just like Pat Riley when he would talk, and he talked about my years in college. And I wanted to implement a championship cultures that the other. And then literally the next morning I wake up. Oh, here's what guy reason. And it's like these guys you more times than not now. Kobe and Shaq was different right? But more times than not people are who they've been around. You know, what I mean like that's just generally the tone that you take in most cases based on the personality. I think. Yeah. One hundred percent, but personality types, sort of dictate the choices we may. Like our programming. Right. The reason it was so different with shack and Kobe. They were both. Alpha they were both leaders both had leadership qualities kyri doesn't. And if you listen to what he says when he's trying to learn about leadership, and what's necessary in his own words at the end of it. You realize he has no clue what leadership out zero right because he doesn't possess those qualities. He's a guy that we're things. No matter how hard he worked, and I'm sure he worked crazy heart but things come easier to him because of his phenomenal talent and discipline that doesn't make you a natural leader leadership is something people say you're born with or it's something that's sort of programmed into you at a young age based on what your necessities were as a child and a lot of times guys like LeBron have a great chance at becoming a leader because they want to become the father the man that they didn't have in their life. But when you listen to kyri, and I loved I loved watching that. Because all I do is try to analyze personnel. Do all that. Whether it's an. Game..

We've lost watch. The one where he just doesn't have his his partner anymore. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. What do you guys? Are you gonna ask a question about the sock thing because I'll ask a question about the stock thing? What do you do when you stop? It's deal. Now. Doc. AP is totally. Your socks off in this place. That's the right four different styles of sock. So I might be able to make a black Hanes sock work with a black something else. And so maybe I can work together. I don't want it to stitch it if it's still good no holes in it outside of the one that's up give it. Yeah. Radio a lot of money buying new socks every three weeks. I if I don't have a reason to take my shoes off. Outside of my house. I don't care what what else. Let's grab two socks and put them on my feet. Why do we even worse? So I think you know, the answer. I understand we should just as a society if we can come together on one issue, remove all footwear. What we may have our different political beliefs, but dammit bare feet for although we all agree that. If you can't find the matching sock you lease put it through one more. That's what I'll do I'll put in laundry, hamper. And then when it's time to do laundry, again, I will hope that I had put its equal in that same laundry load of laundry. That's a good idea. I mean with your success fifty percent at best. That's kind of what you start. Why you only have one you're already at fifty percent. Twenty five percent. I guess I'm no math league. All right. CDC, Dr Scott Caan and Washington discussed on KCBS Radio Midday News
"Try to keep that streak. Going new report from the CDC says that more than a third of adults consume fast food on any given day typically for lunch or as a snack, the problem with this is that these meals are associated with an increased intake of calories fat and sodium for more of this. We are joined live on the KCBS ring central Newsline by the director of the National Center for weight and wellness in Washington DC, Dr Scott Caan, thanks for Matz. Joining us this afternoon. Thank you. So the CDC paper found that younger people typically eat fast food is a good sign that older adults don't consume as much well on the one hand everyone's consuming quite a bit of fast food across all age brackets. But as you suggest it there appears to be a decrease in the rate of eating fast food as people get older. My best hypothesis is that younger people are on the go more and perhaps busier at work in with young families and the convenience of fast food, maybe more important for them. You could also make the argument that we get older as we get smarter as we get older. And perhaps, you know, older generations are have learned a little bit more about how to take care of themselves, and therefore they're eating less fast food and the paper states that consumption of fast food increases with family income. What do you make of that? That was very surprising for everyone. It has been assumed that and prior studies as well have shown that in general lower economic people have lower economic levels tend to eat more fast food because it tends to be cheaper, and they're able to get more for their money. And so in this study, it was it was quite surprising to see that. The opposite was the case it's possible that when you go from very low levels of of income to more moderate levels of income, you can splurge more including eating out at fast food meals, which even though it tends to be cheap is not as cheap as just cooking, very meagre things at home. So that's the best hypothesis. I have so far. But I I am quite confident that that's going to be one of the variables from the study that is that is

"Seven forty KCBS Sunday September ninth two thousand eighteen coming up on KCBS. Many of us are not getting enough exercise. So we'll talk about what we might be able to do to get moving. Plus, I'm Jennifer Hodges the lead taken by the surf world when it comes to pay a quality. Good morning. I'm Melissa Colorado. KCBS news time ten thirty. Well, as we've been reporting on KCBS, according to the World Health Organization more than a quarter of adults worldwide. Do not get enough exercise that could put us at greater risk for conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. So we're going to continue our discussion now on the KCBS ring central Newsline with Dr Scott Caan, director of the National Center for weight and wellness. Thank you for being with us. Again, we were discussing a few minutes ago. What what what the definition of moderate and vigorous exercise are can you elaborate on that for us? Yeah. Think about it is by an example, moderate activity would be like a brisk walk, whereas intensive activity would be running or jogging or you know, intensive and chaining Jim or, you know, vigorous sports, for example. All right. So and and the guidelines are one hundred fifty minutes of moderate, exercise or seventy five minutes. This is per week of vigorous exercise. Why do you think so many of us are not getting that amount of activity into our lives? Well, our world has changed quite a lot over the past central decades such that we get activity in western countries when we go to the gym, for example, or when we take time out of our Bates though for a long walk or jog, but it's not built into our day. Most of our jobs tend to be at a desk or a computer. So we're not moving for the the majority of the day in many many years ago, we might have walked to work or school. But now keeping sprawl and such it's difficult if not impossible to do that. And so we we drive or where public transportation, so there's very little built-in activity in in our lives, which makes it very hard to accumulate reasonable amounts of activity throughout the week. And would would what you just said account for or speak to the fact that in activity levels, according to this report from the WHO are higher in wealthier countries. It's thirty seven percent of people in wealthier countries are. Active. Exactly. Right. So when you look at particularly poor countries that don't have much infrastructure, and that don't have much of the modern technologies that we have whether every house having a every person having a car, for example, you know, many of these countries in Africa, and such very very few people are inactive because they have to be active day in day out with their lives. Whereas people like myself where you know, I have a sedentary job seeing patients, and you know, gets work. I have to take car or train again, I have to work very hard to find the time to put that into my life. One of the other interesting things about this research is that it found that women are found to be less active than men. What do you make of that? Yeah. That's something that's been shown consistently. And there's probably a few reasons one is cultural norms where normally that men go out and do the heavy works. Go out into the fields in such whereas women, stay home with the children difficulty of social and community. Support is important. For example. There was a there was a day off of school this week. School. My wife is the one that stays on with the kids, and therefore doesn't get a chance to go to the gym. Like she'd liked to that tends to fall more on women than men many of these traditional roles. So what can we do to to be more active in in some ways? I think it's safe to say that exercise might have for lack of a better word, a bad reputation in a lot of communities or to a lot of people. They think well, if you're not going to be an elite athlete, you can't do it. Or it's something that's painful, you have to kind of you know, sort of work through the burn. How can we make exercise more palatable or work it into our lives? So that it doesn't seem daunting. So it's a few things first of all as you suggest there still is a role for education, and and counseling people so that they better understand what exercises and why it's important and why we need to act as we work to figure out how to get physical activity into our days as part of that. I think very important thing for people to realize is that it doesn't have to be onerous. We can think of activity within the range of funding we like to do my main physical activity is walking I love walking. And so you that a lot so many people playing sports or hiking where the like are seems they really enjoy and so we should be focusing on those. And then finally, but probably most importantly is structural changes that help make it more reasonable to add physical activity into our lives. I only by default. So for example, in many places there is not good infrastructure for being. Active whether safe bike lanes or safe walk the walking lanes. So those are important seems to think about in schools want to make sure that kids have opportunities to be active, even though there's only so many hours in the day to study and dean class me to make sure that they have opportunities to run around the day same thing and workplaces. All right. We'll be thank you very much for taking the time to talk to us..
