Charles Barkley Calls out Rich Paul and Klutch Sports for Manipulating the NBA

"Clutches able to come up with a solution to this that gets darryl what he needs. That gets them to a place that he'd like to be in an doesn't adversely impact the sixers fortunes in the east. And you know helps other players along the way. I keep hearing like weird names. Cleveland might have an angle minnesota's by favorite getaway any of their assets the minnesota in sacramento ones. Have that kind of logic of of those Folks in those offices have history with daryl. So you know that there they can have conversations and there's absolutely no reason whatsoever for the sixers do a goddamn thing before training camp before the season starts is the best thing about this before the trade deadline. I mean i think that they're well positioned to just chill for a bit. Here's what barkley said on the mike mass analysis show. He's talked about clutch. Was you know how that group works. They try to trade their players to where they want to anthony davis. They had better deals from boston. Maybe even new york. They're like no he's gonna play with. Lebron is not gonna play. They just bullied. The league team. Got to stand up and say i paid your guy. He can't bully me a trade him and meet and have me take some trash back. I'm hoping somebody in the sixers organization got some stones barkley said we have not seen a team degan before and the quick thing you know. There's a persecution complex of them look for so amid this point the most powerful agent is always the least popular agent. David falk in the nineties was basically presented as the anti christ and blame for every bad thing that happened the league in the nineties. Scott boras same thing in baseball. Everybody had scott boras when you're the top agent near attached to the top guy and you're swinging elbows and get clydes what you want and do all that stuff. You're gonna take shit. I don't like some of the stuff they do at the same time. This is a referendum on them right. What how much power do they actually have. Because in this case philly has no trade.

Players balk at MLB's pay cut proposal

"Missed it earlier. No negotiations today between the owners and players. Usa Today reporting the players and their agents meeting to in the Union meeting to discuss a counter proposal to send back to the owner by the way along those lines. And this was Gives you an idea of how some things are going within? Trevor Bauer has tweeted the following. Tonight this was three hours ago pitcher. Trevor Bauer hearing a lot lot capitalized. All three letters L. O. T. hearing a lot of rumors about a certain player agent meddling in MLB Affairs Major League Baseball Players Association. If true and at this point these are only rumors. I have one thing to say. Scott Boras Rep your clients however you want but keep your damn personal agenda out of union business of ood. He followed that tweet with did know. He had a twitter account. Now that I know and the included at burroughs corporation so Scott would see it very interesting To know all the behind the scenes of how this being I I think in general we know how it's being received when players are being asked to in many cases take a seventy five percent pay cut but how it is playing on one end of the pay scale versus the other end of the pay scale with the players making a million less basically getting that versus those when they hire in being asked to take dramatic pay cuts again for all the those who are bent out of shape and fed up. I I get that frustration to some extent. And we're GONNA do this early in the show tomorrow night but I also think people are are not factoring. This in the belief continues to be the season would start July the fourth. That was the proposal to begin with way back forever ago was the weekend of July. The fourth nothing that is taking place right now is blowing up their deadline. The thought is they still have up until June. The sixth. That's another ten days away. Now it's GonNa be ten painful days of of waiting and in hearing unnamed sources float stuff from each side but people act like they and I go back to the the victory for this and Oh my goodness just play. Nothing has changed from their original plan to play July the fourth so you can be frustrated that the deal's not done but nothing is changing the original plan. So maybe it's just the way I'm wired if if and then they say well. There's not going to be a season or well now. We're not GONNA have time to do this or that. That I could see like kicking and screaming and ranting and raving but to do it now just seems because you feel like being mad about something because nothing. They're doing is disrupting their original plan. Timeline that they set up to play baseball July Fourth. So until that changes okay. Let me know when you're done and we'll play baseball July. "Something, but there are so similar, and I think Jordan was I think was better at everything on the basketball court then Kobe was and there's no. Shame in that is is Steve Kerr, a vital part of the Bulls Jeb Bush just He wasn't as much do they have similar experiences with Mj, or does one think of MJ more fondly than the other? I like to see I I like to say they're both a bile part of the bowls, but vital violent. To the word. I know that's terrible not really. I mean they both have the same story. Just how driven he was how driven? He was in practice how he wouldn't let them lose. How in that seventy two win season? That could have been in back to back maybe the second back to back in Utah Denver Dow wherever and they gonNA play because Jordan was in one of those guys. It always felt like look. Someone's coming to watch him. Play could be the first time I want to get out there and play and I wanNA. Be At my best, and you see during the documentary that he just takes these these slights you know the Marley slice I forget who crazy he's. Like I guess that's one of the reasons you know you look at his hall of fame speech. You talked about the slights in high school and stuff and you wonder what drives a guy who's considered the greatest ever. And I guess that's what drives and he's he. He's gotTA. Make up stuff like Oh, he thinks. Marley's a good defender. Okay I'M GONNA. Go show him. It's like wow. This guy really does that kind of stuff, but. But I guess when you've achieved so much and you dominate every time you go out there. You gotTA figure out a way to get yourself juiced up and ready to go and dominate again and he had I mean we played him, calling I was with Arlando, and we played him, and he had sixty four, and we beat them. Shack had like twenty nine in twenty four. It was a game that was Unin Bat not that. Not that long ago and at the end of the game. I remember thinking man. He played pretty good. He must have close to forty and I. looked up at the scoreboard, sixty four and I was like God Dang sixty four, and then it kind of domes on. You sound good. This guy is like sixty. Four doesn't even seem like a huge deal. Because he scores, he's always regularly in the thirties and forties, and it's not that big a deal so when a guy can get sixty four and you don't even really notice it that much. Let's Kinda a weapon. That guy was. Tom Tolbert joining us so you're feeling if the NBA comes back. do you think it will? God I think it's fifty fifty right now I really do. I here's what I think. I think if it comes back, it should be playoffs only and if they have to have like to see him crowned champion this year if they have to just go to the final eight, they don't need sixteen. When's the last time anybody in the bottom half of the play? Offs made any noise like really made a run. Maybe there was an upset here there. DENVER BEAT SEATTLE ONE YEAR MEMPHIS beat San Antonio, and then you had the nick speed in the heat, and the warriors beat the the Mavericks, but you know when it comes right down. Down to it. Usually it's your one two threes and foresee it's you might get five sneaks in there occasionally or rogue six, but for the most part, so I'm okay with them. Just saying look, let's just go eight four side. It's not this thing out. We can play best to seven. We don't get the best of five and see. We could find ourselves a champion. Would it be cheap to somewhat yeah, I? Guess, but the playoffs were pretty much set already. There was a few things that could have happened and again I just don't think by six seven eight. It's not hockey. It's basketball. Those guys don't matter as much I mean it's. Fun for them. They're not gonNA. Make the playoffs and I know the owners would love to have the the income, so the money always comes into play, but it's far as determining true champion I think if you put four in the eastern port in the Western. Let them fight it out. You get your champion. You think most guys WANNA play. That's a great question. I think the guys who were in first person second feel like they have a legitimate chance to win a championship. Definitely WanNa Play I. Think you honest would definitely WanNa play Lebron I don't think there's any doubt wants to get back there and try to win A. Try to win a ring I. Think Guys Aren't in the play offs. There's not a chance in hell. They WANNA play. Not WanNa come back and play the last ten games of the season. 'cause who knows what guys are going to be looking like? You'RE GONNA get guys, remember when Shawn. Kemp came back after the lockout that one time. And it looked like Shawn Kemp. put on about fifty pounds during the break. You make it make Jamaica. Out there I mean maybe a rash of Baloney cl's in torn tendons, and all kinds of stuff, because I guarantee Guy Straight Lounge and right now they're not. You're not the playoffs us like grow on the beach. I'm chilling right now. They were playing in like two weeks. Them too bad for me, so yeah, there's no reason to go back to the regular season. 'cause I don't WanNa see a whole bunch of dudes get out there and get hurt and the one thing I will say I am fearful for if they do bring the season back and they just go to the play offs. I hope it looks like play basketball at least close to it. That'd be my biggest fear if Adam silver is coming back in the basketball like garbage that that's not what you want you want at least have 'cause basket player basketball's high intensity basketball, the most fun basketball to watch of the season. You don't want it to come back like live sports is here and then you're watching just like. This sucks this. So that's that's not what you want, so I guess the fine line. I'd like to see a champion if if at all possible. What's your average day like now? I mean in in see where I live in Manhattan beach. We've had one death of fifty or sixty cases thirty six thousand people. It's not might my doctor has tested. You know a dozen. Two dozen people know positives. It's not. We're all cautious with social distancing, but it's not it not New York, city to beach community in l. a., and there isn't this you know we had the big outbreak. He is in San Francisco. The numbers have been. Pretty low what? What is the average daylight in San Francisco Know. I'm right across the bay. From San Francisco in fact I can see the city from for more and Matt over here in. Alameda, so for us, it's just you know. Get up in the morning out easily. You know, get outside. Go for a walk into my exercise. And then there's a whole bunch of people in the trail. That never used to be there, so you got to kind of avoid them like traffic cones weaving and we've been out. Some people have the masks on, and some people don't have the masks on masks on I went out there a couple weeks ago, I didn't really have one of those masses surgical masks. So I wore the the Michael. Myers mask from how the wing. That's the only mascot head, and it kind of freaked people out one on. When I was walking I. Don't know if it kept the germs out or not, but I don't know. It's the best I could do well six, six or six seven guy with the Michael Myers mask on yes. Yeah, I I. Yeah Yeah and I had the dicky's on and I walk real slow and tilted my head every once in a while. Night at home. And you go, we got.

"The anchor of the passing game with the raiders might be a mistake now. If John Gruden has a plan for him to kind of be the complimentary player vertical stretch player, the guy that can do some things catch and run faster than someone else is going to anchor. Anchor it time, but when I look at their depth chart, they don't have a true number. One receiver, so my fear with rugby is you're projecting him to be number one receiver and he never plays up to that is very similar to, and they're not same player, but very similar to take in junior being drafted early, and you're disappointed, but then when he goes other places, and he falls back in the role that works for him. He has success and enjoy the fourteen year career. It's really important that he plays the right role Cam Newton. Why can't he find a space? A couple of things that play, we can one. The injuries and the covert situation have been a teams from really examining and seeing where he's at. He hasn't been able to work out for team. Just visit with teams. They haven't been able to kind of check where he mentally and physically. Secondly, he's a big personality. When Cam Newton steps, continue your locker room. Big Personality, a lot of players going gravitate towards him. He's an. If you have a quarterback that is insecure and most quarterbacks, a little insecure with the factor. If the backup is to talented and makes them nervous, and can't talented and has a big personality. It's tough to take it on, and then finally evaluators whatever you thought about Cam Newton prior to entering the League does biases deal? Kinda hang in there and so if you never comfortable with this. This style at Auburn the way that he cared himself or whatever it's hard for you, doesn't him being your backup quarterback, there are a lot of things at play we've seen. Familiarity is really the driving force when it comes to quarterbacks, particularly backups I. Don't know how many advocate he has in the league that are saying. Bring me Cam. I can figure out how how to play with. By the way DAX better than Andy Dalton, it's just not a big gap, right. Oh this is an insurance policy. I think Dallas. Cowboys doing with most teams should do when it comes to the backup quarterback situation. A lot of teams would get a guy that Oh. See and the quarterback coach are comfortable with that. Know How to do this stuff on the board, but they really can't play the Dallas. Cowboys win got someone who can play any not a high. High end started, but he's a low end starter high-end backup. If you might McCarthy if Dak Prescott goes down for eight weeks. Andy Dong can win enough games with the supporting cast that he has around him. This isn't a threat to deck, but as more like the Dallas cowboys, going and getting a high price insurance policy to ensure that they can make a legitimate run issue. Now is acknowledging Mitch Trubisky was not a great draft. Pick sometimes your GM, who drafts a guy doesn't want to acknowledge I whipped because you lose jobs especially for quarterback, so to bring Nick foles in by Ryan Pace, the GM the bears. That's a big move that he's acknowledging yeah. I could have had Shawn Watson now. What would trubisky I still don't get that one. I Matt Nagy. He was on the job. "Philadelphia New York Boston. If you don't engineer a trade, they never pick you because your weather's lousy and it's a winner league the bottom line October through March. It's cold everywhere. It's not in Phoenix not. Los Angeles Miami most NBA stars. They're not going to say to jerks. They're nice kids. They don't want to plan the city's. They're planning. It's a winter league, no things. Don't ask me Bro. A number four. Hockey's never going to be that popular in the United States. It's lousy on TV we don't bet it. Ninety nine percent of people have never played it. It's Canada's Sport and let's be honest about it. It's expensive for young kids, so it eliminates a lot of people that just can't afford it. Plus they got morning Skates Morning Rink Time what dad wants to take their kids at four forty five in the morning to hockey, a lot of DADS can't and a lot of people just can't afford it, and we don't play it when we're kids and we don't watch it as adults. It doesn't mean I don't go to La Kings Games. But I mean the big foreign American sports are NFL BASEBALL NBA and college football and I would say over the next five years. The MLS is going to be over hockey. I'm sorry. You WanNa Talk Puck. Go for it. Don't ask me Bro. It's never going to be popular candidate sport. And finally by bosses will be mad. The United States, men's national team is Never GonNa win a World Cup. We're not we can compete. We can be fun. We couldn't make the last world. Cup and the way the way soccer works. Because of our economics. They're dying for us to be in the World Cup. They want us to be in the world, Cup, they give us opportunities to be in the World Cup. We got an easy bracket. And, we still couldn't make the World Cup it's US soccer is political. It's dysfunctional. Just watch the Games. It's like my sec argument. Christian Pulisic came out at eighteen I watched half of one match and I'm like he's so much better than the rest of our players. We don't have enough now now in twenty five years. Maybe it's different, but our best athletes don't play it. We can compete. We can win matches, but to win a World Cup. To win match after match after over Chilean Brazil and Argentina and England Germany Belgium in. What. Winning a World Cup I. Mean I think if we had it on our soil. And we were emotional and we were healthy, and maybe we got a couple of scheduling breaks where you know better teams lost players you. Maybe we could get into a fine later final sixteen. But I love the World Cup. I watched the World Cup, I'm totally into the World Cup much more than the Olympics. We're ever going to win it. Does it does it as I've said before I can know the ending, and still like a movie titanic I. Know The ending see more than once. I'm okay. The, ending doesn't even have to be good I. Can I watch usual suspects? The other night I know the ending. I still watch I don't have to have a happy ending. I don't I know the ending I can? No, we'RE NOT GONNA. Win a World Cup and I still think we'll be competitive in some. It'll be fun. I watch it. I don't just watch it for Team USA. How's that? Don't ask me Bro. Go. Pretty good I really liked that segment. That was very strong, very strong. By, the way I saw this was Scott Boras is in the New York Times. This morning had a commentary. We have to bring baseball back. He makes a very compelling argument. The says it happened after the attack on Pearl. Harbor Sixty years later at HAP- post nine eleven. It happened. Time and again baseball has helped our country heal. Yes. We've lost nearly seventy thousand people to covid nineteen tragedy beyond words, a growing number of found ourselves unemployed without warning. However we face a challenge in the coming weeks and months. How do we harmonize the concerns of health experts with the unwanted effects of those public health efforts? In a recent study, one hundred seventy million people, aged, twelve or older, identified themselves as baseball fans the highest number in the past twenty five years. The first step is to return the players to spring training style camps as soon as possible. I do think it would really be damaging. If, baseball didn't have a season and went eighteen months without the sport. I think the NBA can overcome that because the NBA tends to be star personality driven and stars always attract a lot of attention. Baseball is not star driven sport. It's a habit sport you. You Get up every morning and you read the box scores and you watch the highlights it. You get into a habit in the summer and the early fall of watching baseball. When you get out of that habit, it's hard to bring people back. And I also think baseball has unique challenges. It's got a very strong players union the player's Union. Yesterday pooh-poohed any idea of coming back quote. Baseball Union chief says players haven't gotten a formal proposal about restarting baseball baseball already has the players they have the longest contracts They make the most money Some of them may feel somewhat bulletproof. What's the point? We don't like one hundred sixty two games anyway so I. You know veteran players have already spoken out about coming back. the rumors I'm hearing and a lot of us are hearing. Is that in late June? Or, early June spring training starts July. First season starts a very abridge season. I do things I I do watch them Korean, Baseball Highlights Baseball's very unique umpires could wear gloves. You Sanitize Dugouts you know already. A third of the roster sits down the bullpen separate people. You take temperatures every day. You don't have fans, and again you. Don't you know a lot of baseball? Players were gloves unlike basketball. Reassure a ball. You're sweating on each other. That is not the case in Baseball I. Think you'd have it. I think you would actually have limited fans. wouldn't have to play without any fans. You go to warm weather sites the the warm weather. Could you know stem the virus a little? Nobody's really sure on that I'm certainly not. But The read the Scott Boras column in the New York Times I think it's timely. I think it's smart. Think he makes a lot of really really good points Urban Meyer. The Legend is going to be joining us next. Be sure to catch live. Editions of the Heard Weekdays at noon. "Now tomorrow night joy. Nfl Schedules get released. Yes it's very excited but I love that I really do it. Well you get to play win. Loss which is just the best game of then offseason. So good I I. You know what I think. Honestly nerds are flourishing during this situation. We're in Oh yeah this is this is a thriving time for now all you cool. People lit people and social animals. It's tough but I like to sit home and read and do wonky mock drafts and my son and I let the same way. And he's like yeah you know. I worry about people but I I. This is all good and I'm like. Yeah yeah mostly just hanging out by myself amateur living your best life. Yeah Yeah there we go so I was sitting here this morning thinking I was reading a story. A couple days ago join. I talked about this. That half of the top ten picks did not teams didn't pick up their fifth year option. And I thought you know. Of course. They didn't reality and there are things in sports that one of the reasons. I don't get mad. Sports doesn't make me mad and if you go to twitter. It's just mad people all the time because you get mad based on expectations. You just have to be honest about stuff. I mean if if your parents are five foot two and five foot three you're not playing in the NBA. Just not going to. It's okay. It's just. You're not going to be planning the NBA. You can give me an liar. System is not going to happen and so today I thought I'd do a segment the five truth in sports that I've been reminded of recently and the segments going to be called. Don't at me Bro. K. Donut me. Bro. I'm just being honest. I've been doing this thirty years. I've seen it. Don't add me Bro. Are you ready to go here. We go number one the. Sec's got better football players than everybody. Get over it and so at the end of any college football season when I have to make a decision on a one loss team in an undefeated big ten big twelve PAC twelve ACC team. I'm an almost always take the SEC. They get better players at a high school. More first round picks more national titles look ball records for the last ten years. I don't even think it's the best coach sports. Sometimes I think at Orange Iran won a national title death because Lsu got so many players the reality is state is the only cold weather program in America did even looks like an SEC program when you watch Ohio state play their corners their pass rushers. You're like Oh that's that's that's a that's an SEC football team. That doesn't mean that Pete Carroll's Trojans couldn't beat him or Davos weenies Clemson Tigers can't but let's just be honest in the footprint of the south they've got far more great high school football players and the Urban Meyer's and Brian Kelly have to go south. Those schools don't have to go north to get players the SEC's better. They're going to be better this year next year and every year just own. It don't have me Bro. Number two seventy five percent of the players that your team drafted are not even going to be on the rostrum and five years. This whole league is designed best. Quarterback best coach equals chance for a super bowl. And everybody's GonNa lie about this but seventy five percent of the teams in the NFL. Have no chance to win the Super Bowl this year. Because you don't have a good enough coach and you don't have a good enough quarterback I mean you can eliminate seventy five percent of the I was looking at a stat- this morning where they were talking about the hundred and twenty players between twenty seven and twenty six draft glasses that had options exercised and most don't a forty percent of those players did not get a second over their original team. Your draft this is. Why don't give out draft grades? I give out off season grades where I look at Your coaching staff. Your Free Agency and your first two draft picks I've had. Gm's who are I respect. Tell me by the fourth round. Pick your crossing your fingers. You got no idea if they can play and these are professionals number three most NBA star players. Don't WanNa live in the city they play. I'm sorry Sacramento. I'm sorry Detroit. I'm sorry Milwaukee I'm sorry Cleveland and I'm sorry India Indianapolis if you're young rich and famous. Where would you WANNA live? You WanNa live in Los Angeles Miami. I'm sorry every time is a free agent opportunity. You know these these fans out east on the eastern seaboard. How many free agents WANNA play in Washington Philadelphia New York Boston? If you don't engineer a trade they never pick you because your weather's lousy and it's a winner league the bottom line October through March. It's cold everywhere. It's not in Phoenix Not Los Angeles Miami most NBA stars. They're not going to say it to be Jerks Nice kids. They don't want to plan the city's they're planning. It's a winter league no things. Don't ask me Bro. A number four hockey's never going to be that popular in the United States. It's lousy on TV. We don't bet it. Ninety nine percent of people have never played it. "And guess what Denver traded for him, even though he was making upwards of eighteen million dollars per year all right well, then with Cam. It's not about consistency. It's about health and he's been inconsistent helpless. You know who was very consistent helpline Sam Bradford. He was consistently always injured yet despite that billy gave him a deal. Minnesota traded for the deal then. Arizona gave him another deal. You know a guy who played eight good games in his career. Case keenum John elway. Come on down pay Nick foles you played six magical quarters eighty, eight million for Jacksonville. Trades for him so it when it comes to Cam, what I wish folks would acknowledges for a lot of the decision makers in the NFL Philip rivers and his inconsistency and interceptions that go along with showing players on the field, screaming and coaches. It's a little more palatable when the game ridiculous outfit is a Bolo, tie. Post game outfits is something that I happen to think of superfly, but you wouldn't be caught dead in Collin cowherd. Some guys, it's like. I don't know if that works so it until we get to a place where we have thirty two consistently healthy quarterback, there should be a place for Cam Newton Yeah. That's why I've said cams a celebrity. Nobody wants to celebrity backup. I don't think it's just health I think that's a nonsense argument and I don't think it's just consistency I think he's a celebrity and it's got what got it. That's why nobody wants. Baker Mayfield eventually as a backup. That's why nobody wanted Johnny. I think when you're a celebrity in this league, and Cam is a big star. You either build around him, or you're not interested, so let's move to the next topic. you ever relationship? With? Aaron Rodgers he slid into your or something like that I I do not. But in the mind again. Explain to Kalemie implication. Keno that's. Why Own. Okay I am lit I just don't let you guys know it so. My argument is if the packers drafted Jordan love. But the next draft pick was a wide receiver. This would be fine. Because then they could go to him and say listen. This is what we did with you. We're finding the next you even though we may never play them, but we went and got a receiver blocking tight end three interior offensive lineman. We are going to help we were you drafted all offensive guys, but when they drafted Jordan love in a running back and never address wide receiver I. Think it's GonNa fall flat for Aaron and there will be some bitterness. Throughout the course of the season or do you believe Nick right in your relationship with him, he'll handle it like a politician and say all the right stuff. I think you'll handle it well because he's a pro, but you're spot on. It's not just. They drafted a running back. They didn't even drop like a cool receiving back like my soon to be two time defending super bowl champion city chief did they drafted a bruising power back Yep that pro football focus did not have in their top two hundred sixteen players in the draft. That's what they spent their second round pick on and their first round. They speak. They spend on a guy who they pray doesn't play a snap until twenty twenty two, and so you're right, and they traded up for him. If you're Rogers. Rogers I. Didn't you justifiably should be more than miffed at the draft? And then I will reiterate the point. I made last week. I would be move for more than miffed to downright irate that somebody was whispering sweet nothings Zimbabwe begins ear to where they talk about me like I'm problem I used this quote before bill. James is one of the smartest ones. Bad teams have a horrible habit of blaming their best players for their biggest problems. We've seen this happen to Odell Beckham. We did happen guys all the time. The one great player on the team gets blamed for the team, not being raider or good. were thirteen and three last year, despite a rookie head coach and a defense that fell apart by the end of the season, and and all of a sudden it Aaron Rodgers. Attitude is the problem we'll get back throws. What's what he did to my beloved candy cheese? It's an impossible throwing me once that. He ended it to him there. Guys the problem that you need to rush out of town. It's insanity. By the way, the circle back to basketball in the last dance I don't have a problem with Michael Jordan being critical of Jerry. Krause, who has passed away because Michael was critical of him when he played and now he's critical of him when he's gone. He was critical of Isaiah when they battled. He's critical of him now he's authentic. He's not softening his stance and I think sports writers tend to like Happy Endings Nice cuddly stories and Michael Will. Not Oblige anybody so I don't have a problem. Going after Jerry Krause because he did it to his face when he was around. What do you make of that criticism of Mj? I don't have a problem with it either in that regard I understand that when people immediately after people pass away. It's not the time to say this is what they were terrible, but at some point once you have enough of expansive history you. It's very crowded passed away last week. Then I would think okay this poor for him, but that obviously isn't the case, so you can give your honest opinion on him, but and while Jerry. Crowd did seem to really want Fred it for what Michael Scottie and Phil did and seem to really always looking for ways to kind of create wedges within the team. What cannot be forgotten to? History is Jerry Krause bound Scottie Pippen got horace. Horace Grant Acquired Dennis. Rodman waited three years for Tony. Tony Coach got speaker John Paxton. He built an amazing team. A team that the first year Jordan was gone was good enough to win fifty four games, so I listen. The guy might have been at likable. You might have had some personality quirks all of it, but he did a really underrated job at filling out the rest of that roster, because when Jordan was first winning MVP's and when when he scoring thirty five, and then thirty seven points per game, those teams were winning, and you needed that supporting cast, but your overall point I do think it's fair to say it's not like Jordan. Waited for him to be gone. Trashing he did it at his. Damn Hall of fame speech. He's always now we to talk about how petty Michael Jordan is. We don't have enough time. Do that another day, but in general I agree with you. Nick right excellent work. My friend, great talking to you first things I could see I'll be listening to you. All right. Slides in year DMZ later. Tom Brady perhaps by the way top of the hour. Don't ask me. It's a new segment today the five. In sports that may drive you crazy and hurt your feelings, but I don't care. "It's one of my favorite segments of the week We we disagree on a lot. But that's Okay. That's what sports are about especially when it. We don't have games now. Good sports topic of debate is always fun. So Nick Right my buddy. Co-host first things first sponsored by Mercedes Benz the best or nothing. So let me start with this. You heard me rant about centers. I'M NOT ANTI Center. I'm pro skill and the NBA is decided with their rule changes. Its Guard driven wing driven league and so the five best players I've ever seen. I Know Kareem points but I don't think he was as skilled as Michael Jordan or Kobe or certain Lebron or magic or Larry Bird so your takeaway on my kind of rant. That comes off sort of anti center. Well you don't have cream in your top five just wrong it's just it's just an invalid opinion. It's just it's just like coming out today and say today is a great Thursday in the heard. It's Wednesday placing. There are three people who had a credible case for greatest player. Ever and unlike the Jordan sycophants I can concede. Obviously Michael Jordan is a credible case for the greatest player. Ever they can't concede anyone else does. Lebron James is a credible case for the greatest player. Every is the best case that happens and green who has more points than anybody more. Mvp's than anybody won the same amount of titles as Jordan. And by the way I should remind you it his basketball life might be the most perfect never lost in high school whilst twice in college by Combined. Two Points One. Three Final Four. Mvp's and three national players of the year and by year two was the best player in the entire NBA and so in one league and be being bothered me so those are three best players ever your whole skill versus not ill i. It's just that opinion. I love you just wrong opinion though. Okay let's Segue to this A lot of people are saying with the last dance. Doc Jordan. Can you imagine him now? In this Cotton Candy Soft Love Pillow Fight League average forty five points a game. Do you buy that or it's insanity and the thing is this cannot go only in one direction. If you're arguing that Michael Jordan who let's break it down. Fully Jordan averaged more than thirty five once in his career. The nineteen eighty seven season. Where he averaged. I'm sorry. Nineteen eighty seven season. We're averaged thirty seven game. People say well if you played it. Today's paints fact of the matter. The nineteen eighty seven season was played at a faster pace than today's NBA. Look it up. The eighties were a higher scoring decade than today's NBA. So what we're really but we're really not talking about the average thirty five hundred thirty seven because he wasn't winning titles he's getting swept the for. We're talking about in the nineties. When he averaged thirty one thirty two and one title that Jordan could now average forty forty five points. Will you therefore also be saying that Dominique Wilkins? Whoever nine Jordan average thirty one would be averaging forty forty one point? And you've got to do it in the other direction. If today's era is so much easier to score in then a guy like Oh. I don't know Kevin Durant if you went back to nineteen ninety two would be lots crack twenty points per game. That's the conversion if we're going to add fifty percents of Jordan's points per game to do it retrofit it. You gotTA take thirty. Three percent away from gramps points per game. But no one wants to do this. But here's the most fascinating thing I thought with the Jordan Dock. There would be some young people throwing stones at the era. I mean we saw Michael Jordan on camera and the Ninety Eight Seasons Day. Ten years ago guys were smoking cigarettes at halftime. I thought there'd be more people will be like. Oh that's interesting wonder how that would hold up. That hasn't happened instead. What's happened is the folks of Jordan's era have thrown stones at the current era. 'cause when you say he could average forty or forty five. What you're saying is today's guys. Think they're not as good as his era. 'cause nobody today aside from Harden averages even thirty five and so I I Jordan would be great in any era but the idea that he would he would be the best player in today's era by a couple of standard deviations falls upon against any scrutiny also should be noted the mid range jumper is not in vogue and he would probably shoot more threes which is easier scoring for veteran players and Michael was never a gifted three point shooter except for the two years or year they moved in the arc so to your point. I do agree. let me talk about a couple of football topics number one. I have never been a huge fan of Cam Newton though I do acknowledge he was magical in his. Mvp season and sort of the emotional style of which he it's it's sort of his DNA was really beneficial. He plays with a great deal of momentum and energy and it was magic. My knock on him is that he is not easy to coach. Doesn't win enough. Mechanically doesn't appear to be. The same story was five years ago and he's banged up and out of his prime. I believe and frankly not accurate enough in now. An accurate quarterback league we've got to be in the sixty sixty five percentile. I don't ever. I never thought he had much of a market because I think he's a celebrity and nobody wants to celebrity backup. Are you bothered by the fact that nobody appears to be even remotely interested in Cam Newton? Well I just want people to acknowledge and admit that it can't just be about football if CAM. Newton can't get a job because people say well he's not consistent. Okay it's a fair point. Joe FLACCO was remarkably consistent for six years. After they won the super bowl he was consistently Arab six years. And Guess What? Denver traded for him even though he was making upwards of eighteen million dollars per year. All right well then with Cam. It's not about consistency. It's about health and he's been inconsistent helpless you know who was very consistent helpline Sam Bradford. He was consistently always injured yet. Despite that billy gave him a deal. Minnesota traded for the deal then Arizona gave him another deal. You know a guy who played eight good games in his career case. Keenum John Elway come on down. Pay Nick foles. You played six magical quarters. Eighty eight million for Jacksonville trades. Foreign so it when it comes to Tam what I wish folks would acknowledges for a lot of the decision makers in the NFL. Philip rivers and his inconsistency and interceptions that go along with showing players on the field screaming and coaches. It's a little more palatable. When the game ridiculous outfit is a Bolo Tie Post game. Outfits is something that I happen to think of superfly. "Teammates back. Then and that's why even for fans growing up Bez Rudy for teens now fans root for players. It's the microwave generation. Greenie people will be die hard like you are with the jets and I am with the Lions were K. De Lis Oklahoma City and he goes the Golden State fans will same thing with Lebron when he goes to Miami and he goes to La but in a physical nature of just how the game is. Play is more patient. Space is more driving kick is more low management and so those are the things that older players are going to talk as the game continues to travel throughout the decades. How the players in the current decade that are playing. Have it a lot easier than they are? I'm told that we do have steven with us here again. I take about fifteen minutes away. So Stephen same thought to you. Do you believe the players. I understand the game has changed the way the game is played and all of that. But do you believe the mindset of the players today is markedly different than it was in the Arrow Michael Jordan played markedly different without question. And I'm going to say what Jalen rose didn't say. Today's players are just simply very very soft mentally literally. There are players that I haven't spoken to in years because I said they played like garbage the night before. That's it that's it or they showed up in a playoff game and disappeared last time. I checked you're playing in front of thousands of people in person. Millions of people watching on television. You're putting your exploits on display fit. Human is to witness and then when you call it like you see it. It's like you talked about their mom or their family or loved ones or something like that. It makes no sense whatsoever. So in that regard I think the the the the game has definitely definitely changed. That's not to say with everybody but certainly with a lot of guys. They're thinking about their brand thinking about how things will reverberate how it might ultimately compromise them financially and they take those things into consideration not looking at the fact that by putting your skills on display you're open to scrutiny just like your opened to praise back in the day you talk to a lot of guys. Their whole thing is that they wanted the ability to be able to confront you to go face to face man to man have a conversation with you. They might question your knowledge. They my question you know how they might question your sources. They might question a multitude of things but if you were somebody that was willing to walk into an arena particularly inside of a locker room and you may yourself acceptable to them. They might rip you a new one but after that you can shake hands and move on because you're willing to listen to what they have to say am vice versa. In today's Day and age you know you don't have that because they're insulated by just a Kabbalah people where you know people in front of them speaking for them Speaking to the media on their behalf taking positions for them an insulating their from direct one on one contact and j-league speak to this just as well as anybody because there have been times where I am sure that Jalen has had to speak to a report or two about things that were said or written about him when he was playing. Well Jalen is the kind of person that he doesn't mind talking to you. Man Man less had this conversation. There isn't a whole bunch of people in the middle of it. All that have nothing to do with it. Directly speaking on his behalf all those players of his generation that is not the case today. And that's a big problem. That's why there's certain people and they know who they are in the NBA. That I give major props to because they'll call you. Themselves got arrested so Kobe. You've got to a point where you're scared. Say something about Kobe. Greeny you know why because Kobe Pick. What the Hell did you just say today? I so you just say this. And he would address you die. Recklessly you don't get too much of that in today's game. I get that now. Jalen how much of that might be attributable to. Just how much more media there is out there today and media now means everything I mean. Practically every human being is the media now with social media and we see that way. Some players have reacted to that. There's just a lot more of it out. There Jalen quickly because I can see. Steve is shaking his head. Real quick. Thought FROM YOU J. Well you guys are old enough to remember my favorite show growing up white shadow and there was a guy. In the classroom Arnold Horseshoe used to raise his hand say who when he had to answer question in the reason why bring that part up is because having multimedia and social all of these different platforms that your family and friends your staff your managers. Your agents have access to the information that is being said about you. They become instigators in their own way. Did you see with such and such said about you? Did you see with such as such wrote about you? Did you see with such a such posted about you? So now's almost like I got to defend myself and you forget that Europe professional and it becomes a part of what you do for a living in why you make the big bucks. Yeah quickly shack was welcome back Kotter but the point remains I'm GonNa take it a step further than that. He is reality. You can talk about that but the reality is this. You have players. Listen if I'm on national. Tv I go to games. I'll go inside the locker room. You HAVE ACCESS. You got something to say it. And I've seen people that had something to say to me but since about three or four different people to say it for them and I'm standing right there. I mean you've got some dudes that are just. Let's just call what it is? This is called what it is greedy and Jalen. There are some dude. That's just soft as putty. They are intimidate. They WANNA have a conversation man to man with you to handle their business. They use others to do it for them. And I don't have any respect that I tell athletes all the time you know what I'm right here and I got the National Airwaves upstanding right in front of your face. If you got something to say to me tell me when I'll meet you. It doesn't matter but inaccessibility will not stop me from doing my job attitude got but K. We can't front money. Money is power and at some point when you start making enough. Bread is like such such. Can't say anything to me because you're not gonNA thank my quality of life. I'm not dealing with that. So jazz has to be something for that. As Stephen People are different of course people change in some approach things differently but is it not fair to say that these players here all of them the good ones and the bad here so much more about themselves than they did as recently as twenty years ago? That it's reasonable assume it's going to affect them in some way. Well yes this fair greedy but you also have to consider the source if you treat everybody with blanket Louis. Then that's a different problem. You're around the league if you're in the League you've been playing a number of years. You've been around long enough to cultivate relationships if you so choose to cultivate relationships in a fashion where you know who to speak out when you want to have your voice about because of Social Media. They feel like they have a voice. They don't need to speak to anybody they can send those. Hanger wants to speak on their behalf. They say something themselves on social media if they want to and sometimes they act like usurp the position of those in the media. Good luck with that. Let's see if you pull it off. But here's the thing a guys Jalen. We have guys who will make burner accounts to argue with people who have like eighty-one followers talking about Stephen. A Smith WHO's the loudest voice in all of sports? We're talking about guys who are defending themselves arguments against just randomly accounts. And you would think I'll be the person. That's making the eighty-one references. Not You this thing. Greenie for for for today's player. You alluded to it and I talked about it earlier. There's so much multimedia consumption think about you're looking down at your phone you're looking at facebook. You're looking at twitter. You're looking at I G. You're looking at the television you're looking at. You is so much information that has to do with your name. Your brand and and other people get a chance to now. I'm in have opinions as well at some point. You feel like I'm making this a level of money. I have this much power. I'm going to defend myself. Because it can affect my brain. It could affect my followers. It could affect my appearances my endorsements so because bigger than what's happening I got released to the score. A Game Stephen. Our Vice Greenie to the plays themselves do what you can to cultivate relationships with people that you would like to disseminate message as opposed to lie. Rely on your hanger on who nobody in the media is to trust anyway. They don't hear from you. It doesn't matter in terms of the media. You know what be fair. Be Human and outside of that. Don't give a damn about what anybody has to say if they taught just because they don't talk to you doesn't mean they get to stop you from talking about them. Move on teary-eyed. I do it every day and I'm living quite right. But also Stephen Aid that's a strip. That's a discipline because wisdom and also a light skill what. I would say to people is. Don't take everything so very personal like we're really critiquing saying public. Consumption is not personal. And we're just trying to be professional cover. I I have to let it go there as much as the last thing on earth wants to do but Stephen Show starts sex minutes Steve. Thank you my man. You're the best Jalen thank you. There's a fascinating conversation. It's one that I think we can continue to have. Meanwhile they have a lot of fascinating conversations. Coming your way on. I hate coming up next. We'll continue talking about Kevin Durant on. I take both on and off the floor Stephen a match molly and company getting ready to roll. I take follows us on. Espn back on off with a bit of encouraging breaking news the Bundesliga in Germany. The nation's largest soccer league is expected to restart this month with may fifteenth. Being the first day it's eligible no fans will be allowed. Germany's ban on massive bench goes through August thirty first but still with only nine match days left in the schedule. Bundesliga plans to finish their season on time by June thirtieth so that can only be encouraging news. All right I have one minute left. Dominique I'm told you have something you want to say to Stephen and Jalen GO I. I think that I should congratulate them on effectively getting everyone off of their lawn because I just felt like they were attacking all these players in ways that I don't think are necessarily true. I think people have changed in. The world has changed but these players are fundamentally the same as they were backing today and it's hard for me to listen to them say that current athletes are a lot more sensitive. We're midway through a tin part documentary. Which main threat is how sensitive Michael Jordan was? He was talking trash to writers. In the same way that draymond green talks trash to Charles Barkley and talks trash to everyone else like it just feels like the medium is different but the players. They want it just as much as the players did back then. They're trying just as hard as players back there. Just as sensitive as the players were back. Then they're just doing it a little different so it just to me. It's frustrating to not have somebody there to represent the younger.

"Tell you they're the best ones yet. Our colleague Mark Jackson has been featured in the series and he was almost got van pelt the other night and he made some really interesting comments about the way. The game has changed. I want you to hear this. I definitely agree with it and is not. It's just it's just a different time when you look at what what what. Michael Jones stood for and you look at Kobe. Bryant the late great Kobe Bryant. Those guys are willing to die on the court. They were willing to do whatever it took to. Flat out get victory. They competed in everything that they they attempted to do. It was a different mindset with all due respect there is certainly greatness in the game today but I say that the difference between that generation and those guys in particular they will do whatever it took to win on a basketball floor and has no knocked anybody today but just a different is cut from a different all different cloth fascinating words and I've got. Jalen rose with me here this morning and I think we'll have stephen a Smith in just a moment. I'm told driving just a little difficult to get him on. The WE DO J yes. Jalen all right. Excellent so Jaylen when you hear. And that's your former teammate. There Mark Jackson talking. What is your react to you? What do you think of him saying? Players of that era were cut from a different cloth. That's very accurate. But also in defense of today's athlete. The game is a lot different too. I see the relationship between players in the League's in their teams is more like business. As opposed to there was a level of loyalty that you had to your franchising. Your.

"Led to loss jobs. Increased stresses of every type and a diminishing of the social tapestry that binds it enhances our lives. After many weeks of following safer. At Home Protocols People are understandably restless and looking for an outlet. It is time again for baseball to serve at sums up the way I think so many of us feel so well and so here is got some Scott. I really appreciate you getting up early and doing this. What role do you see baseball and sports in general playing in lifting the country up through this unprecedented time? Well baseball has a history of doing this. Mike and and I think a lot of it is that we are. We're asking a lot of our society to isolate or asking him to stand home and I think giving them something that is a unifying dynamic Normalcy baseball What's done in the past? Y You know the politicians of our day president trump and and COAMO and and Chicago you know. Many many politicians are now seeking I think that aspect of normalcy that we want our American culture and yet we have to do it in a very safe manner and do it in a way that We know more about this virus The medical professionals have identified. This and I think baseball players being the age. They are being a In first class physical condition And also having a pre really standing prolong medical histories with the with their teams The the fact that they don't have the underlying medical conditions the the risk of mortality is a lot less with this employment group and it really allows them. I think Certainly base And now a a real understanding from the medical experts that we can certainly get start to get players ready and get them get them trained and ready and back in spring training. Well that brings us to a really important point and I would say that be should read the bed because he Scott gets very deeply into the history of how baseball has played this role in the past including President Roosevelt during World War. Two asking baseball's owners to bring baseball back because he felt important for the country. So it's very much worth reading but let's get to what you were just talking about. What conversations have you had with players about their desire to play and how they balance that with their concerns about safety well obviously the the players I represent you know. We've we've had conversations with low over one hundred major leaguers and you know the athletes are their their you know we have given them a lot of information from the many of the physicians that treat them The epidemiologist for the the data's is much more profound and exhibited today and I think one thing we know is said. This virus has a clear impact. It's not going away. It has a dramatic impact on those of of higher ages and people with underlying better conditions. And fortunately the the athletes of Baseball Those parameters carry much much less risk with this. We've looked at the hospital. Relation rates of people in this age group without underlying condition. We've looked at the Mortality Rates both in where they could play in spring training in those states You know one of the epidemiologists from UC Berkeley pointed out about being locally observant an appropriate as to how you wear and how you treat this virus and certainly those in Florida and Arizona and frankly and in many states now the mortality rates are much lower than they are in the northeast. So we've when you look at that and you look at the risk. They're related to the players. I think they're much more comfortable now. With with the returning also the treatments that are available now or more defined all therapeutics and And also very hopeful about vaccines in the future of the few players that I've had on here that we've talked to have also expressed to me some hesitancy regarding the quarantining itself so if baseball is going to come back as soon as possible. It seems likely the players are going to be for lack of a better word kind of separated from the rest of society for a reasonable significant period of time including possibly their families. What hesitation have you heard from your players regarding that? I think we have to set up models as we do in in medicine. And that is you. You can certainly had to spring training and I think players that I've certainly I represent representative all said they're willing to to look at this for thirty days and and be isolated and and and phase in spring training with say pitchers and catchers. I I think one of the things we have to consider Mike those that we we need to do this We have a little longer spring training because the players have been isolated this very unique setting that they've been in the last fifty days and we need a little more conditioning time with more time to before we get to the skill part of the game that we have in the past so it's a very different process but but I I think one thing that's clear is that we've we have involved the the people they're going to have doctors they're they're gonNA have their trainers there The isolation aspect. I think the players are willing to do to really take every precaution as we test before they go test when they arrive and really create an environment that we can after a thirty day or so period. Let everyone know that this. This group is healthy. We also have an international community that we have to do well in advance because we have to bring them here and get a look at where they're out that may be additional time. We have to have isolation spaces for those who test positive and we also have to have You know I think a period of time for those to integrate back in so it's It's going to take a little bit more time. I think the norm to to bring baseball back and get players ready and then I think during that time we can decide with the schedule as one thing. We're learning about this. The more time we spend studying the virus and collecting the medical information. The more efficient of a schedule. I think we can have and and we also have the month of October that we can use regular season now by the players agreement so I think we can put together something that can can really help America. I'd Scotland at a time here. I very much appreciate your doing this again. I recommend reading the OP. Ed in the Times Bring Baseball back a lot of interesting thoughts in there and let's stay in touch with WHO work our way closer to this. I'd like to hear your perspective. Thanks a million for doing this. Thank you Scott Boras. Again Major.

"We are back on get up in the national. Football League is set to release. It's twenty twenty regular season schedule tomorrow. Eight o'clock eastern time. The League is evaluated. Contingency plans should the pandemic intensify work in conjunction with the Players Association and medical experts on a set of protocols so for more on that let's bring in our NFL insider. Dan Grazziano Dan. What more can you tell us about the NFL's contingency plans here look the NFL is looking ahead and expecting? They still say to play a season as usual. The schedule that comes out tomorrow night will reflect that. But it'll be interesting to see how it's bill because there have been some discussions about what do you do about. Equity if the season S to be shortened. If the season has to be delayed there have been talks about potentially building a schedule. Where the early part of the season would have interconference games and all the division games would be pushed back to later in the schedule remains to be seen whether they're able to pull that off but if they if they do if that's the schedule reflects tomorrow night when it comes out you'll know that that's why talking to people around this issue continues. Say They have optimism about a full season being played but they have to build in the possibility that it could be delayed. It could be short. And that there won't be fans in the stands that stadiums would be thirty or forty percent full so the NFL is looking at all possibilities. And they'll be guided by what the other leagues do and most importantly the public health situation as it evolves over the next couple of months. Chancellor that there's something really interesting to look for when they released that schedule see if they backfill if you will all the division games to later in the season well done Dan. Meanwhile let me run the hurry up here with nick and Bobby Dominic Foxworth. Give.

"Player safer because they could be on isolated campuses where they only deal with themselves and they're only in this little bubble except for when they go to play other teams. So I'm not as confident as Paul is that the safety of the players will be treated the same way if the safety other students because frankly those other students are not nearly as valuable as these players are as a collective. I'm looking at the smiling face polly. What's she thought? Well I mean it's hard to find fault in anything need said being a cynic as long as I have but when you're college president you take a tremendous responsibility and you take responsibility for football players on campus as well and I maybe a purist here in a very soiled pool but I still don't believe college president will allow that. I know what's at stake financially. But but let's not get carried away. The television part of it is one thing there won't be anybody in the stands if there aren't any students on campus okay. Let me get to something happen on your show yesterday when I play piece of sound from a guest that you had who is a member of the Minnesota border regions. His name is Michael Shoe and he was talking about the possibility of the power five conferences breaking away from the NC Double A. Here's what he said. I wouldn't be surprised to see the power five move away from the NC double. I think it could happen pretty soon. Within the next couple of years. I mean it just depends on what everybody wants. Obviously now the the system is broken and because of the pandemic it may be it may never get back to normal there. We're just in a place where the NCAA is broke and I I can't wait 'til they start asking the members for money probably going to be within the next year. That's what he said now the Board of Regents Chair. Ken Powell later. Said those statements do not reflect the position of the regions or the university. He said I want to be very clear. There have been zero conversations among regions the university or Gopher Athletics with respect to the University of Minnesota much less any power five institution changing its relationship for the NC Double A. But Paul because of the reach of your show. It was much too late at that point. Everyone was already talking about the fact that he had set it. So what do you think? Do you think that at the end of the day? Mr Shoe is right and that the power five conferences will ultimately break away from the rest of the schools. I think Mr Schumer is right. And what what we heard from the head of the board of regents was simply boilerplate. We get that every day in politics we get it every day in Sports Greenie until this happened. I thought we would be on a long road but I mean by that is the pandemic we would be on a long road to see this happening but this is a once in a lifetime event for all of us and I think this is the moment that a lot of people are looking around saying. Why do we need the NCW? I know the basketball tournament is important. I know all these other sports are important but the people that sit at that table the five power. Five commissioners plus. Jack's Warburg plus a few other people were run college football the NCW does not run college. Football they lost that a long time ago and I think they're seeing the ineptitude of the NC double a. especially of the leadership that currently exists. And I think we're we're we're moving slowly slowly. Maybe a couple of years. You can't do this overnight but I think ultimately you're going to see a break. Maybe no one whose opinion on this. I actually am more interested to hear if they were to break away from the NCWA ONCE. They got their footing underneath them. Do you think things in college. Football would be better or worse. I think that would be better because you have the power. Five commissioners the people that really matter the people that contribute to large amounts of money into football controlling versus a number of people who they earned their spot at the table. But they don't they don't they. Don't have the same issues this Florida and Southern Cal Notre Dame and Lsu So I do think for cost of that. They would be more lenient. They would be more amenable to player rights. Like we have an even though. The decision came out last week. It's still being disputed. We still don't know what's going on. Because with the AA greeting on elements sound like a broken record. We never know what's going on. Dominic what do you think if they were to break away and create their own in its own way it will be its own football league different from from the NFL but different from what it is now as well. Do you think it would be better? I think the power five are already different before suggest inside the NC Double A. And it's what twenty or so other conferences. That or fifteen other conferences. That are nothing like the power fossil they separate. I think we're moving more towards them. Being a professional football league which is what they already are now and that I think is better for everyone involved. We can stop pretending like it's something that is not start to treat it like treated the way that it is and hopefully treat the players the way that they deserve to be as the professionals that they are. What do you think do what you were a star football player at Boston? College a first round draft pick in the national football league. What is your perspective on this? Listen to agree with dominate. Let's let's know let's forget this whole charade to think that you know bring up this word amateurism Cacho not amateurism play out right now where you're talking about. Students not being on campus. What we're talking about playing football games and empty.

"Of that league and everything but college football. So they'll play those five. And I would think Notre Dame would be able to attract a number of other games that they opened the season as as we all know against navy in Dublin highly. Suspicious net game will take place in Ireland So I think Notre Dame can can fill out those other spots and I think what you're hearing when conference commissioners indicate that we could play a conference only schedule. What they're really saying. We don't think we'll start. September fifth or Notre Dame's case a week earlier. Okay interesting what? You haven't had a chance in this conversation yet this morning as you hear these conversations about some schools some conferences being ready before others. What do you think green clearly? You see the economics really playing out in this whole situation here. I mean we're talking about her. Say in the last hour herm Edwards. Say he doesn't see a possibility of students on campus how the plants could allow out there on flips out at the economics that plays into these called programs and how out of funds. Alati programs that is looming large in this situation. So we have a situation where you know certain certain section of the country reopening it and certain Certain such aren't and you're GonNa see that's the advantage you know. If somebody's schools are able to play. They could share revenue with the other schools within their conference. Oh money is looming large furry margin a situation dominic. I'm trying to remove any of my biopsies in this as we discuss it because you and I think standing a lot of the same places as far as the notion of amateurism but if you just step back and look at it. I think that this is going to have to change people's viewpoint on fundamentally because no one can possibly debate now. That money is driving everything we can we can. We can have pretended as much as we wanted to up until this but I think objectively speaking. No one can pretend that this is about anything more significantly than it is about money as we watch the way this is being handled the irony of potentially going into a season where there won't be any students on campus but these players may have to come to campus to play these games they that kind of qualifies them as essential employees. The irony of that also tried to say that they are not employees. They do not have jobs is quite rich so I understand where you're coming from and understand where Paul said. He doubts that will play. If the students aren't on campus. But I could understand school saying that. This actually makes the.

"Not concerned about a competitive advantage or disadvantage. I've I've accepted long ago in this pandemic that that's a natural consequence. They'll be great disparities. I think that are inevitable in this. Ncaa will do what it can. I think to regulate them. But you're still have circumstances were schools aren't open and others are states have reopened in some have. I think the bigger for us is the consequence of that will have on competing in the fall. It's one thing to say. One team gets a competitive advantage. It's another one of the circumstances under which you can play. I would be surprised if there's any conference. It hasn't looked at a conference only alternative. We are very comfortable that if that if it goes that way that we'll be fine. We'll be able to play a high quality full schedule. The same number of games as other teams will play where? There's a lot to unpack. There isn't there and for more on that. Let's bring Paul Finebaum into this discussion along with t would and nick and Paul. I want to start with you as we listened to him there. It's it's another very powerful voice in the sport of College Football. Essentially acknowledging that right now no one knows exactly what's going to happen and everyone is to some degree out on their own. What is your sense of it? I think it's completely mess greeny and and you're right about sexual BRCA. He he is powerful it almost to the degree of conference commissioner because he sits in on all these meetings and it is the problem with the current structure right now. There's no czar in college football. You have these five conference commissioners and they are working together. I know there are a lot of conflicting stories but the problem is they don't they don't know what they're going to do because they don't what's going to happen above them. Ultimately these decisions are going to be made by the college presidents In terms of whether to allow students back on campus. And and this will be a debate. But I don't think there really is much debate greedy. If not students on college campuses there will be no college football. This fall. I it's not not maybe the one place where I would ask this question because there's so much interest in it. He just said you heard him say there if the conferences decide to play conference schedules. We're confident that we will still be able to put together a good schedule at sounds like a difficult thing for me to imagine. What would you envision Notre Dame doing? What would their season looked like if they can play. But the conference's all decide to play on each other who agree to you. Start with Notre Dame having it's five. Ac She games. They are a member.
