Charles Barkley Calls out Rich Paul and Klutch Sports for Manipulating the NBA
"Clutches able to come up with a solution to this that gets darryl what he needs. That gets them to a place that he'd like to be in an doesn't adversely impact the sixers fortunes in the east. And you know helps other players along the way. I keep hearing like weird names. Cleveland might have an angle minnesota's by favorite getaway any of their assets the minnesota in sacramento ones. Have that kind of logic of of those Folks in those offices have history with daryl. So you know that there they can have conversations and there's absolutely no reason whatsoever for the sixers do a goddamn thing before training camp before the season starts is the best thing about this before the trade deadline. I mean i think that they're well positioned to just chill for a bit. Here's what barkley said on the mike mass analysis show. He's talked about clutch. Was you know how that group works. They try to trade their players to where they want to anthony davis. They had better deals from boston. Maybe even new york. They're like no he's gonna play with. Lebron is not gonna play. They just bullied. The league team. Got to stand up and say i paid your guy. He can't bully me a trade him and meet and have me take some trash back. I'm hoping somebody in the sixers organization got some stones barkley said we have not seen a team degan before and the quick thing you know. There's a persecution complex of them look for so amid this point the most powerful agent is always the least popular agent. David falk in the nineties was basically presented as the anti christ and blame for every bad thing that happened the league in the nineties. Scott boras same thing in baseball. Everybody had scott boras when you're the top agent near attached to the top guy and you're swinging elbows and get clydes what you want and do all that stuff. You're gonna take shit. I don't like some of the stuff they do at the same time. This is a referendum on them right. What how much power do they actually have. Because in this case philly has no trade.

"Wonder how Chris Archer feels about all this think. He's tired of hearing about it. Probably, yes I'd like. He's the type of person who's I, think psyche can't handle the concept of them being a complete bust. I think he's also. There's probably also I'm reading. I'm projecting a little bit, but I would personally be frustrated if all of my best seasons came when I was. Not Well compensated relative to the game that I signed a team friendly contract, and I'm never getting that big payday that perhaps you were hoping for in the back end. He'll be fine for his life. He's made a lot of money, but One of the most team friendly deals in baseball to at the time it was signed. I can't wait. I can't wait for the sixty man roster thing, and just the opportunity to maybe some of these guys in part time roles and spot starts and stuff like that. I. Think could be really fun and that's that's what I was excited. About is because I think are also this. I hope at some point in time. However quickly. This moment comes when teams realized that they're just not going to be in the mix you know even though all thirty six teams are making the playoffs If, your team's just not in the mix. Are you going to give your guys that opportunity you know? I think about the Kansas City. Royals who they got body with junior that they'll just drafted brady singer as well. Those are a couple of guys. Well, you know depending on where the Royal Shakeout in the central or any sort of postseason picture looks like those guys just get more tick so that. They can accumulate that. You know that that that time that experience. It's going to be a cool wrinkle. It's the wrinkle on most looking forward to than that stupid ass, elimination of fake games and results that don't count which we talked about on the last podcast or whatever? That's great. That's what's best for baseball I got some final thoughts. If we want to get into that ooh. What are we Nari not building a pitcher? Do you WANNA do that? Yeah, are you guys prepared to go? Yeah? Yes. There's not gonna be any luke void stuff is there. I mean again. I've yet to have anybody named me a stronger individual than Luke. Boyd so power I. I'll edit this. I'll at part. We can do to build a picture stuff. I, do have a hard out at two. We have thirty five minutes which should be plenty for what we have remaining. Okay. Are you guys ready to build your perfect pitcher I am on, so we don. We build our perfect hitters a couple of weeks I built a perfect hitter. You guys did something else I think you guys were participating in a different exercise, but We're GONNA. Do it with hitters or pitchers today. Everybody gets four pitches to choose from I think I think I think should almost be a draft. Oh. Where where if you claim this person's pitch yeah. You don't like that way. We avoid you know one picking Garrett Cole Fast. Can We? Can we defer this next week? Then, Alexander. We're going to. Do. You have a list of something that doesn't match up with what we're drafting. Surprise. Surprise! J just make you an easy, not having the information necessary. Strap. This was on the run down last week and I point blank. Asked you two assholes. If you're ready to do it, and you said definitely not, so we deferred it to this week. I like the idea of a draft which means we're going to take. We're GONNA. Take a beat and I'm ready. I'll go. I am not ready. I'm not ready for the draft. Oh, so gay has a reputation to a poll. We're turning this into another official starting nine data starting nine draft then we're doing it on episode one seventy nine. I'm already texting Ozzy about the. Winners graphic made so let me let me ask this question can, and maybe it's an obvious answer. Would it be more interesting? If once like say. Say Somebody took Jacob degrom fastball. Does that into? Up Out of circulation like that idea, yeah, like once the arm is named. It's done. He only has one arm to share. Yes, like drafting the player uses great, this is. Your. Song takes one like ver- landers fastball lenders curve ball. You take his curveball fastballs off the table. There's more strategy when it's that way to this is gonNA. I'm GonNa fucking nail this guy. This was an absolutely beautiful loose phases lazardo SPAs ball. Hogwash wider who else have we interviewed. Encouraging slider I would show you my list right now. But, I'm not giving away anything net book and Lazardo. Comment hurt her. We. saw. Scott Boras still has his fastball I'll take mass ball. So this is a great time to prepare the grounds crew for the auction draft that I have been clamoring for Yup that I want as well so. I don't know when that will come hopefully soon, but we also want to an auction draft so that we can start putting money where the mouth czar right? So stay tuned for the auction draft. I will be putting together the best. Pitcher universes faced Jared J. will also try to do that I'm excited about this I'm not talent. Official above third place finish. Military. Talent I'M GONNA take. Dallas Braden's fastball. Dallas won the not to be confused with Dallas Britain's change. Smart Dallas brains underhand. Fastball! Action fastball this was an incredible promo. For episode one nine strapped excited I'm gonNA. Be I. Mean Obviously, I'M GONNA win. Final thoughts. Final thoughts I'll fucking see next week to claim that Title I got. A Guy. One person has been consistently asking on twitter that we break the silence on monster cheese..

"Is there anything being talked about in regards to that now I think the protocols are really up the individual care of each athlete in Oh so each player. Has Test Positive they obviously. A protocol to remove that player and to make sure he's cared for isolated, and then once you know, he has been tested Dory's negative return to the population so. We have you know again? We have about sixty players that are available to play and so if these incidences occur during the course of the season, Dan a You know we'll have pliers ready to step in. While the other players are quarantine. The one the one thing that I really want to have clarified for some folks who have kind of taken the side of the players throughout the throughout this whole process, and then at the very end felt like they kind of got. Okie, Doke, there felt like they had the rug pulled out from underneath them by the players with the win and wear stance. They took and then sort of backtracking on that if you will. And say no, actually here. We've got a better idea. How about Seventy Games explained to the folks at home that this is about? Negotiating away your legal right to pursue a grievance, and to pursue money that is present in the form of a grievance that could have been present in the form of baseball games, but that wasn't the goal of the ownership. So can you explain to folks why the players took the wind wear stance, and then ultimately said we'll know we're actually. We're not interested in negotiating away our legal right. Gauche asics often like commuter trains. Is, at there's many starts and stops before you get to the final destination. And when you? You get ready free. Stop in each start. And you re examined I believe. The status of a negotiation. I don't really know I know when the wearing. When came that the? Players Association made the decision in and the players made the decision that the. that this was time to go play. It was time to get ready to go play that we have a march twenty six agreement that allows us to settle these issues with foreign arbitrator and. The real. Thing is we go play, so they said if we can't come to an agreement. We know that we have a a an alternative method to do that, and but we want to play baseball, so it's really about going to play baseball and saying wearing way. And then. The Representatives of MLB slow out to Phoenix had a meeting. Tony. And I don't. Know exactly what went on that meeting, but all I know was that there were. Discussions. And certainly. Having familiarity with these discussions over the years. You know when you have an agreement and you know when you don't have an agreement. Clear that there was you don't have anything on paper. You don't have signatures ethnic rainbow. And so the idea of it is, those discussions came in, and then the obviously that information. brought. New, light to the players, association in the players felt they should do and with that New Light they took a last chance at reaching agreement and. Really really adjusted the economics of their proposal. Almost a half a billion dollars and went from eighty nine games to seventy games to make. An attempt to. Very very reasonably get this deal done. At that offer was. rejected. And, then basically it was we. They returned to A. To a Wherein when. Policy of saying okay. were. Were not going to. We're GONNA. Let you know will play the. I think the. The MLB knew that the players were gonNA play, and so that's the latest implement and also now we're talking about the east. The West in the central, and the whole point of that is to limit the travel, but for the postseason What do you think the likelihood is? That will see. The postseason played at a neutral site or sites. Well as as you both know I've been advocating that for over a decade. We. We have world series week. and W S W. And we have this really placed known destination for the game. And that it is really good. Involve entertainment international journalists. Corporations hospitality it can be a. we do a great job with our all star game and be our all star game really. WAS A world series floor out of anywhere from four to seven games in it. And and the key thing is i. just think more people more families. Everyone's going to have an opportunity to a chance to experience that. If they can plan for they know where it's at because we want to grow the game one game in a way that we can do it by a sponsorship and from creating a true destination for we know that works with the Super Bowl. And I just think it'd be transferred baseball because you have so many games that you can play in so many different people can actually attended games live, and then also watch the game, because in the Super Bowl you only have one event only about. Eight thousand people could go you. Can you have anywhere from a sword? Seven opportunity people can be there for week and ten one game and feel involved and feel a part of things, and you can have so many different forums to to experience our game and you can have. All the all star players there you can have a true postseason homerun derby can have. All the postseason awards galas there for that I mean it can really be festive occasion, so if one thing that comes out of this. Pandemic. I think is is the fact that. It would make. This process I think more along the line of of a modernization and in growing our game to international world event. Would be. That would be something that you can plan for something that you can circle on the calendar. Say Art Fam- We're going here this year. Because this is where world series week is going down I. Mean that when you when you really step back in evaluated, it makes a ton of sense stepping back and evaluating the growth of the game. Something that you just hit on. That leads me to this. Grow the game. Let the kids play right. These are mantras for Major. League Baseball. But we're seeing the conversation of forty plus minor-league teams potentially being cut by twenty twenty one. We had a very interesting draft. Just go down all of five rounds, which a side note for the folks at home. If you weren't following along and you're, you weren't doing the math well, we were. Fourteen. Fourteen draftees for the Boers Corp Eight of those eight came on.

"In I in E, not starting nine nine in I in E.. R. At you guys way too long. Enough Scott Boris. The interview number to a different Scott Boris not like this was a Scott Boras talking about everything every question that you would want to ask Scott Boris. A what the fuck has been going on in the baseball world over the last few weeks. We asked it. We got answers so without further ado. My agent. Scores. All right He's back, Scott Boras my agent first question that I have to ask you is like I. Know that you're on your phone a lot for your job. How much has your call? Volume increased since becoming my agent. Well we you're known as career Biz. We change your last name, and so that's fine call. It's all about that I mean. That's your advice that you WanNa take and if you know if that's what leads to the bank account expanding than we're all for it, but worry. We made the decision internally that you have golf voice I love that, and so we're. We're GONNA. Have you instead of doing the starting nine? We're going to have you do the whole eighteen, okay? There's a lot of money in golf to Scott. You can't just shut down. I, mean, let's let's be help me help you. Let's make money together. All about soothing and whispering it. That pre. Voice that must. Be, ready to shoot. down. Since since the last time that we talk to you, a lot has happened in the baseball world I was the biggest of that being. We actually have baseball, but I think so. We recorded our last episode yesterday. We're like cautiously optimistic. I. Think would be the phrase that we have baseball. There's an agreement. Players are going to camps. How confident are you because we're? We're really not that confident that a season will get completed. Are you confident that games will get played in like if we're talking out? A lot can happen the code world in terms of things changing. So, what's your stance on? If a season, we'll even start if they do. Start will be completed if they is there a chance that the postseason gets canceled where you at right now. I think they're. What we know about Kobe today what age group. A It really impacts. We've been operating baseball now. Internationally aged for. Almost three months we had. Ohio species of for this for this age group. or the coaching staffs that I'm aware. And, so that to me allows us to understand that the virus ended up itself with protocols. can be managed internally. We have the ability to conduct games. Games and get games on television. In ballparks without fans with probably maybe. A hundred and twenty five people present something along that line, and we will have the ability to test those people. we will have a regimented Diaz tick on a daily basis, and so that I think creates an arena. That's repetitive. And and remember that we're not dealing with the outside world as much as we are with the containment.

"Year. It was not effective, not not great great. Are. We going to see a guy. We're GONNA see. Just like started the third inning Shit's not going well. You know maybe a couple of back to back, and then a double, and then another double or something. He's like you know what guys. Yet going breakout that copays list I think now's a good time to opt out I think I think world under WHO's the football player? WHO's the football player that retired at halftime? Yeah? You went to the University of Illinois to WHO. He was a Detroit Lions cornerback. Right, hold on, you just shut down. Out -solutely peeled on. Just yeah, fuck, you peel known. It was. It was vaunted Davis Yeah and he was with Buffalo at the time, so I was. Retired at halftime. This shit is just not for me. I respect it. He says I shouldn't be out there anymore. I shouldn't be out there. You would know right. That's that's me and my bowling. League in East Boston Tyre Tyre and like the fuck in the middle of the second-string. Seat now meeting. Hey where you going. He just throws the ball behind. Where you go, I got enough I should not be out there. Yeah I got a question for you Dallas. Your thirty six years old. If your shoulder had held up, you could bury well conceivably still be in major league baseball right now. You have two young kids, a wife and your grandmother lives with you the as have a very good chance applying postseason baseball this year. How do you handle? That like is that? Is that a conversation that like you like? Are you bringing? Obviously, you're including your family in the conversation and and knowing meg. I feel like should be like listen. This is your dream. This is your life like we support you. But even with that encouragement. And we all know how big of a Dallas Brayden. Fan. Your grandmother is and I mean, and she's just goes rogue sometimes. I feel like she would just be like. Go out there and do it, so where would even let's just say? That was the case if they were like? Hey, we support you. Go out there and do it. For you knowing that you're a protector of them. And obviously your two kids. They can't give you an opinion on what you should do. How would you handle this? I? It would be a very long drawn out conversation about what life looks like after baseball season, and you know like my grandma and I have a great relationship we've been able to. We talk about absolutely anything. But like you had to remember this was this was the woman who saw me head off to college and didn't see her for months at a time, and then I get drafted. and. I go to fucking Canada haven't seen her for half a year. Then I go to Illinois. And finally come back after this so over half a year right and that's how our life has been. Where Hey, if I get a text or a phone call I know you're good to go well. That doesn't really get it done. If, if you're gone you know like I can't send that text. I can't. I can't make that phone call and so I, think it would be. I think it would be an easy decision for me to make at this point in time all things being equal on thirty six years old have been able to put myself in the position. I've done financially. I would be cheering my ass off for my teammates. I would be cheering my ass off and that's just. That's because of I. Guess how? Hell appreciate if I am of everything that I have and. I would not be trying to tempt fate. A yes is the way I would look at it. I would want each and every day after this season to spend with my children and with my grandmother and the hypotheticals over. What if what if? I could do that I don't think that I would be able to do that All I can take it this far if my grandmother didn't live with me. Then, it would be a very different situation I believe and and I would. I would heavily way the ability to you know not come home or excuse me the ability to. Be Able to come home and be able to go about my day. Those are things that I would have to be you know really consider if I was a single guy, jared no, no worries. No anything well. I could give fuck tell me where to sleep. I will sleep on all of the needles. You're getting ready to stick into people to test covert. Covert I will sleep on all of the potentially positive Kobe tests. Just so that that doesn't leak out in any of my teammates I will do whatever I needed to do. If I was a single guy with nobody else depending on, so so, what do you think guys in a in a similar situation as you like obviously like? Remove your grandmother Guys. That are like I got a wife at home. TWO YOUNG KIDS! Like what do you think is going through their mind right now because? Like the way you're describing it. Is that you even? Like you would have a conversation obviously if it was if it was the wife and kids. I think like your grandmother obviously changes the dynamic drastically. But guys that even just have like the wife and kids. Like! What do you think they're going through right now? What right now first and foremost the first thing that comes across your mind unfortunately. Is it.

"For your family in that environment. That's tough so naturally. You're going to gravitate towards folks who are like minded folks who understand your struggles kind of what you have gone through, but again the Latin American guys. Santiago Cassia every time that we would hit another town or go to a new town, I would roll out with him to go to whatever version of the Little Dominican neighborhood. They had that all these guys. All the players know about because when they go into a different town. They're typically meeting up with players on the other team. Who are from the Dominican or you know from Panama there from? And they go out in their town, will I? I was the bug A. White Dude. WHO's Roland with these guys? Purely because I, love President Tastes, and everywhere that they took me always had resident taste, but I just. I just knew like those are the folks that I grew up around? You know dubs the neighborhood that I grew up around, so it was difficult for me to. To become a part of I, guess these little sex within a clubhouse, but they absolutely exist there and I've like I said I've noticed it, but I've always kind of felt like I again. I could be naive. I felt like it was a language barrier. Saying am a culture barrier thing you're talking about. Where you know like the the deer hunting. tobacco, spitting guys from Texas, like what what do they have in common with a dude that just had to get smuggled here from Cuba I. Don't think it's like a racist thing. It's more dislike were from two completely different worlds, so they hang out with like minded people. so take, but not about this though take a cesspit right to the UN, assessment is and put him in a locker room with like a Madison Bumgarner and you're initially thinking the fucker. These guys are GonNa talk about well. Maybe stay on a horse. They could talk about staying on a horse together. They're both big horsemen like so there are says goose in Jim Leyland is ripping heaters right so there there are. There are those connections you just have to make him. That's all you just have to. You have to open it up, you have to. You have to you, can't you can't? You know level with someone and realize how much you have in common with them. If you're just not even opening yourself up to the conversation of like a do, we have in common. There's there's plenty of things and and a huge part of that to do is seriously is letting your guard down. Like how would how would the Latin? Guys? How would they like? They would just absolutely crush me. Make Fun of me like all day long because I'm trying to speak, Spanish and I'm speaking Spanish from you know it's A. It's a dialect from the mountains in holly SCO because that's how I learned to speak the broadcast, and they're just making fun of me. Left and right you know, but it's endearing, and you grow those bonds. You become tighter, you order big thing is now. That didn't wasn't really a thing when you were playing. That I feel like is connecting the all the different right. Yep, it's the video games. So let me fuck in. ZANDER BOGART's from Aruba Ed Water Rodriguez from Venezuela and Nathan Valdis, from Texas, but they're all just planned fortnight together yet. We'll ZANDER. BOGART's is a fucking cheat code because he can talk to anybody. Anybody on the planet like he's A. Well you can take Zander Bogart's to the you know to the fucking fakes or whatever and he'd be able to decipher. Some of those hieroglyphs that are on these are on these pyramid like the dude speaks every language. Did you know he was a night? Yes, I didn't know he was. He's Knighted I. Think he speaks. Six Yeah seven hint will hits him and him in. Yep, But it is. It is just it's crazy. Jared back in the day when I was playing. We would absolutely meet up. Bring guys over to the hotel that we were staying at. If we're playing against the you know planning as opposing team like Victor Martinez. He's come over and play fever. Jack Cust. And, that's that's what we did so now that you have this online capability absolutely. Absolutely you can hook up and link up with guys all the way across the country in another country, and you can keep those relationships yawn. That's why like you got like the crusty old media people. They're like video games in the clubhouse like you should be taken BP and you should be you know looking at film and this analogy. You could be working out and you guys are playing video games in the clubhouse, and it's like well like you're. You're completely just looking the other way on the team building aspect of like these guys having a common interest that bonds them as players, and how big of an impact that can have on a major league team. It's huge. So I think that's you know. I think that for as crazy as it sounds like video games, being something that can create clubhouse chemistry and and Build A. A winning ballclub is I mean it's it's a factor. It's a thing like obviously you got to be good at baseball number one I don't care how good the Marlins are at fucking fortnight I don't think they're going to be winning a championship, but it doesn't hurt. It definitely helps but you know Ian Desmond thing if you haven't read it, go to his instagram. Read it. Let us know what you think on these starting nine. Read it page. which I believe is just starting. Is it starting nine pod j? Yes starring nine pod. subscribe on, read it there. We have discussions in there all the time. I Jersey numbers going up up up up I. Go in there where I mean Jay Dallas. Myself were all in there. you know having conversations with the grounds crew? Anyone that wants to talk to US where there But other players are opting out and and like we said with the Desmond there were reasons beyond Cova like Koga. Reason why? I think he said he has he has three sons, and a fourth is on the way. Yeah, that's the thing that was one of the like not to circle back and reopen this again, but. Back, to the being a biracial man in America right now, and obviously a biracial man, who he himself has has said, he identifies as a black man in America, because that's how he is treated, right, he's got three young men that are getting ready to take on this world in the state that our world is in the state that our society is in, and that is what grabbed me. That is why. The home clubhouse is where he needs to be right now because he's getting ready to put three other of our teammates. Out there in the world and I say our teammates, because they're fucking human beings, and they're a part of this society just like we are. and. We're all a team. So he as the leader, a part of our team is saying you know what boys I've got some teammates that are gonna be able to be. We have a big impact for us I need to make sure that they got their shit together right now. Okay, so go ahead and Polish up Polish up them a moment. Pau, those those edges that sound good I've got another one that just popped out.

"He's back. He is Scott. Boris returns to starting nine. This I don't know like a month ago. That he was on, it was a big deal when he was on the first time. It's an even bigger deal now that he's back because there's many more things to discuss I feel like in the first interview it's it was like a get to know Scott Boris type deal like. Let's talk about the job we I mean. We talked to him about a few things but now. I think because. The first interview went so well. and I'm sure that over there at the Boris Corp there. They've got all these there. There's probably more monitors at Boris Corp than there are at the FBI. Those people are monitoring everything at all times so they probably saw the feedback and they're like Oh. Let's get. Let's get Scotty be back on starring nine. So that's what happened. Scott Boras. Boras back, it's a no brainer. Yeah, you get the MLB mouthpiece on the Mike and you'll let him go. Put Him on a t and you'll let him swing, and that's exactly what happened. There's a lot of folks who are interested in what the most powerful agent in all of sports has to say, especially during some of the back, and forth that we've experienced with the negotiations and. And you just want you want an opinion of somebody who has been there someone who has been in the trenches, and that's exactly what espy represents is he's got the the hearts and the best interest in mind of the players. He loves the game, and he rubs a lot of people the wrong way because he is not afraid to put the finances and the business of baseball right. Right in your face, he will beat you over the head with it. Just make sure you understand why. His players deserve what they deserve why he's going after what he's going after and frankly where he's coming from when he talks about the good of the game and the interest of the game, so he is a voice that many people whether you like him or not value in hearing. I know that I don't know if he has any interest because I mean obviously he makes more money doing what he does now than he would in this position, but do you think that Scott Boras would make a good? Commissioner Baseball. I think he would have I think he would have? A very well invested interest in the game benefiting, but that is coming from a place of bias right now because I understand. How much he wants to go to bat for the player, and if you're going to bat for the player, alter not work for the owners. You're not working for the owners, and and you're just. You're not the guy in position that the owners can trust to keep their invested interests safe as well so while I think. He would do a fine job of having the games best interest. At Heart, and he would make the necessary adjustments and moves and concessions at the right time I. Just don't like there's no chance the owners would ever be like. Yeah, you know what we'll put the rest of. We'll put the history aside will the past in the past, and we'll just move forward clean slate Scotty from your like no, yeah, and I was GONNA say like. Maybe he would do well. With an advisor to the commissioner role, but like he pretty much already just does that for free, but he's just. He's throwing those ideas out there, but here here's a free one. Let's let's Let's get this. We'll talk about in the interview which is coming up later in the PODCAST, but he does have an idea that is very unique and I. Think it's a great idea. I think also biased because I and there there would definitely be fans who aren't crazy about the idea. Because of their teams current situation historically, but I'll just say this as someone who has seen their team win the world series at. At Home and in Rhode Ballparks, I'm cool that I. Like the idea, but I can see why. Some fans be resistant to it, but that's just a teaser. That's just a little. It's a little teaser. We'll get through later particular. Get to that later. There's other topics that we have to discuss before we get into Scott Boris interview Both of you Jay Dallas the Ian Desmond instagram posts that dropped. Night was making some waves i. it was one of those things where I saw that. It was multiple slides, and there was a lot of texts on each slide so as I got a I can read. Tough, but then as I'm reading through it. I didn't want it to end like I want it to be. One of those Players Tribune pieces where it was like You got any more of these. These stories you have I mean like it was. It was really well written. I thought it was very obvious to tell that he took a lot of time to think about this. It was like oftentimes we'll see players post. You know like they'll type something in the notes section of their iphone, and then screen shot and post it. You can tell that it was just basically a along version of a tweet where they think something and they just puke it onto their phone and then put it out there. What Ian Desmond put out there on. Tuesday night is Tuesday Monday days. It Tuesday night. Monday night. Yeah, we know you're a fucking clue at data's Monday night. He posts this on his instagram page and I mean we're not gonna read the whole thing, but. If you haven't read it, go check out. His instagram It's really well written really well thought out, and it hits on a lot of different issues with in baseball, not just at the major league level like we discussed, or he discusses issues at the major league level, but then we're just talking about baseball as a whole and and Desmond is a guy that you don't often hear from you. Don't often hear about so I thought it was really interesting that something like this was coming from player. That's not known to be super vocal an outspoken about certain issues..

"I'm your host David Meltzer. This Day Meltzer with entrepreneurs, the playbook and I actually have a tremendous icon and mentor of mine. He probably doesn't know that, but when I. Rarely. Steinberg's sports entertainment I was a student of Scott Boras. He is a sports attorneys of baseball attorney, a great entrepreneurs, well I know he, he probably may or may not even see himself that way, but in order to get to the top of the game, which he has as a baseball attorney, and a great business person, you have to have a lot of knowledge skills, and most importantly desire, because it is one competitive space I will tell you that from being in it Scott Boras welcome to the playbook. Pleasure beware where you David. It's incredible. Honor but I really WanNa get into your playbook to success, because I think any sports profession, most people don't know this, but there's so many frustrated athletes out there. You are next professional athlete yourself. Is that correct correct and you know you probably know better than anyone. Every kid including me that could make it on. The field decides well. I'll be a sports agent or a sports lawyer or some sort of sports, profession, and you have done such an extraordinary job to be. Be a sports lawyer, but when most people probably don't know is the amount of lives that you've helped beyond just the big contracts I know everybody's probably thinking what you did last fall in. They look at those huge numbers. If they go Scott Boras, you know what a genius, but what I see you've done over the years knowing the players is you change lives, your best friend and mentor, a babysitter and in a guide US I wanNA. Players balk at MLB's pay cut proposal
"Missed it earlier. No negotiations today between the owners and players. Usa Today reporting the players and their agents meeting to in the Union meeting to discuss a counter proposal to send back to the owner by the way along those lines. And this was Gives you an idea of how some things are going within? Trevor Bauer has tweeted the following. Tonight this was three hours ago pitcher. Trevor Bauer hearing a lot lot capitalized. All three letters L. O. T. hearing a lot of rumors about a certain player agent meddling in MLB Affairs Major League Baseball Players Association. If true and at this point these are only rumors. I have one thing to say. Scott Boras Rep your clients however you want but keep your damn personal agenda out of union business of ood. He followed that tweet with did know. He had a twitter account. Now that I know and the included at burroughs corporation so Scott would see it very interesting To know all the behind the scenes of how this being I I think in general we know how it's being received when players are being asked to in many cases take a seventy five percent pay cut but how it is playing on one end of the pay scale versus the other end of the pay scale with the players making a million less basically getting that versus those when they hire in being asked to take dramatic pay cuts again for all the those who are bent out of shape and fed up. I I get that frustration to some extent. And we're GONNA do this early in the show tomorrow night but I also think people are are not factoring. This in the belief continues to be the season would start July the fourth. That was the proposal to begin with way back forever ago was the weekend of July. The fourth nothing that is taking place right now is blowing up their deadline. The thought is they still have up until June. The sixth. That's another ten days away. Now it's GonNa be ten painful days of of waiting and in hearing unnamed sources float stuff from each side but people act like they and I go back to the the victory for this and Oh my goodness just play. Nothing has changed from their original plan to play July the fourth so you can be frustrated that the deal's not done but nothing is changing the original plan. So maybe it's just the way I'm wired if if and then they say well. There's not going to be a season or well now. We're not GONNA have time to do this or that. That I could see like kicking and screaming and ranting and raving but to do it now just seems because you feel like being mad about something because nothing. They're doing is disrupting their original plan. Timeline that they set up to play baseball July Fourth. So until that changes okay. Let me know when you're done and we'll play baseball July. "I really liked that segment. That was very strong, very strong. By, the way I saw this was Scott Boras is in the New York Times. This morning had a commentary. We have to bring baseball back. He makes a very compelling argument. The says it happened after the attack on Pearl. Harbor Sixty years later at HAP- post nine eleven. It happened. Time and again baseball has helped our country heal. Yes. We've lost nearly seventy thousand people to covid nineteen tragedy beyond words, a growing number of found ourselves unemployed without warning. However we face a challenge in the coming weeks and months. How do we harmonize the concerns of health experts with the unwanted effects of those public health efforts? In a recent study, one hundred seventy million people, aged, twelve or older, identified themselves as baseball fans the highest number in the past twenty five years. The first step is to return the players to spring training style camps as soon as possible. I do think it would really be damaging. If, baseball didn't have a season and went eighteen months without the sport. I think the NBA can overcome that because the NBA tends to be star personality driven and stars always attract a lot of attention. Baseball is not star driven sport. It's a habit sport you. You Get up every morning and you read the box scores and you watch the highlights it. You get into a habit in the summer and the early fall of watching baseball. When you get out of that habit, it's hard to bring people back. And I also think baseball has unique challenges. It's got a very strong players union the player's Union. Yesterday pooh-poohed any idea of coming back quote. Baseball Union chief says players haven't gotten a formal proposal about restarting baseball baseball already has the players they have the longest contracts They make the most money Some of them may feel somewhat bulletproof. What's the point? We don't like one hundred sixty two games anyway so I. You know veteran players have already spoken out about coming back. the rumors I'm hearing and a lot of us are hearing. Is that in late June? Or, early June spring training starts July. First season starts a very abridge season. I do things I I do watch them Korean, Baseball Highlights Baseball's very unique umpires could wear gloves. You Sanitize Dugouts you know already. A third of the roster sits down the bullpen separate people. You take temperatures every day. You don't have fans, and again you. Don't you know a lot of baseball? Players were gloves unlike basketball. Reassure a ball. You're sweating on each other. That is not the case in Baseball I. Think you'd have it. I think you would actually have limited fans. wouldn't have to play without any fans. You go to warm weather sites the the warm weather. Could you know stem the virus a little? Nobody's really sure on that I'm certainly not. But The read the Scott Boras column in the New York Times I think it's timely. I think it's smart. Think he makes a lot of really really good points Urban Meyer. The Legend is going to be joining us next. Be sure to catch live. Editions of the Heard Weekdays at.

"Teammates back. Then and that's why even for fans growing up Bez Rudy for teens now fans root for players. It's the microwave generation. Greenie people will be die hard like you are with the jets and I am with the Lions were K. De Lis Oklahoma City and he goes the Golden State fans will same thing with Lebron when he goes to Miami and he goes to La but in a physical nature of just how the game is. Play is more patient. Space is more driving kick is more low management and so those are the things that older players are going to talk as the game continues to travel throughout the decades. How the players in the current decade that are playing. Have it a lot easier than they are? I'm told that we do have steven with us here again. I take about fifteen minutes away. So Stephen same thought to you. Do you believe the players. I understand the game has changed the way the game is played and all of that. But do you believe the mindset of the players today is markedly different than it was in the Arrow Michael Jordan played markedly different without question. And I'm going to say what Jalen rose didn't say. Today's players are just simply very very soft mentally literally. There are players that I haven't spoken to in years because I said they played like garbage the night before. That's it that's it or they showed up in a playoff game and disappeared last time. I checked you're playing in front of thousands of people in person. Millions of people watching on television. You're putting your exploits on display fit. Human is to witness and then when you call it like you see it. It's like you talked about their mom or their family or loved ones or something like that. It makes no sense whatsoever. So in that regard I think the the the the game has definitely definitely changed. That's not to say with everybody but certainly with a lot of guys. They're thinking about their brand thinking about how things will reverberate how it might ultimately compromise them financially and they take those things into consideration not looking at the fact that by putting your skills on display you're open to scrutiny just like your opened to praise back in the day you talk to a lot of guys. Their whole thing is that they wanted the ability to be able to confront you to go face to face man to man have a conversation with you. They might question your knowledge. They my question you know how they might question your sources. They might question a multitude of things but if you were somebody that was willing to walk into an arena particularly inside of a locker room and you may yourself acceptable to them. They might rip you a new one but after that you can shake hands and move on because you're willing to listen to what they have to say am vice versa. In today's Day and age you know you don't have that because they're insulated by just a Kabbalah people where you know people in front of them speaking for them Speaking to the media on their behalf taking positions for them an insulating their from direct one on one contact and j-league speak to this just as well as anybody because there have been times where I am sure that Jalen has had to speak to a report or two about things that were said or written about him when he was playing. Well Jalen is the kind of person that he doesn't mind talking to you. Man Man less had this conversation. There isn't a whole bunch of people in the middle of it. All that have nothing to do with it. Directly speaking on his behalf all those players of his generation that is not the case today. And that's a big problem. That's why there's certain people and they know who they are in the NBA. That I give major props to because they'll call you. Themselves got arrested so Kobe. You've got to a point where you're scared. Say something about Kobe. Greeny you know why because Kobe Pick. What the Hell did you just say today? I so you just say this. And he would address you die. Recklessly you don't get too much of that in today's game. I get that now. Jalen how much of that might be attributable to. Just how much more media there is out there today and media now means everything I mean. Practically every human being is the media now with social media and we see that way. Some players have reacted to that. There's just a lot more of it out. There Jalen quickly because I can see. Steve is shaking his head. Real quick. Thought FROM YOU J. Well you guys are old enough to remember my favorite show growing up white shadow and there was a guy. In the classroom Arnold Horseshoe used to raise his hand say who when he had to answer question in the reason why bring that part up is because having multimedia and social all of these different platforms that your family and friends your staff your managers. Your agents have access to the information that is being said about you. They become instigators in their own way. Did you see with such and such said about you? Did you see with such as such wrote about you? Did you see with such a such posted about you? So now's almost like I got to defend myself and you forget that Europe professional and it becomes a part of what you do for a living in why you make the big bucks. Yeah quickly shack was welcome back Kotter but the point remains I'm GonNa take it a step further than that. He is reality. You can talk about that but the reality is this. You have players. Listen if I'm on national. Tv I go to games. I'll go inside the locker room. You HAVE ACCESS. You got something to say it. And I've seen people that had something to say to me but since about three or four different people to say it for them and I'm standing right there. I mean you've got some dudes that are just. Let's just call what it is? This is called what it is greedy and Jalen. There are some dude. That's just soft as putty. They are intimidate. They WANNA have a conversation man to man with you to handle their business. They use others to do it for them. And I don't have any respect that I tell athletes all the time you know what I'm right here and I got the National Airwaves upstanding right in front of your face. If you got something to say to me tell me when I'll meet you. It doesn't matter but inaccessibility will not stop me from doing my job attitude got but K. We can't front money. Money is power and at some point when you start making enough. Bread is like such such. Can't say anything to me because you're not gonNA thank my quality of life. I'm not dealing with that. So jazz has to be something for that. As Stephen People are different of course people change in some approach things differently but is it not fair to say that these players here all of them the good ones and the bad here so much more about themselves than they did as recently as twenty years ago? That it's reasonable assume it's going to affect them in some way. Well yes this fair greedy but you also have to consider the source if you treat everybody with blanket Louis. Then that's a different problem. You're around the league if you're in the League you've been playing a number of years. You've been around long enough to cultivate relationships if you so choose to cultivate relationships in a fashion where you know who to speak out when you want to have your voice about because of Social Media. They feel like they have a voice. They don't need to speak to anybody they can send those. Hanger wants to speak on their behalf. They say something themselves on social media if they want to and sometimes they act like usurp the position of those in the media. Good luck with that. Let's see if you pull it off. But here's the thing a guys Jalen. We have guys who will make burner accounts to argue with people who have like eighty-one followers talking about Stephen. A Smith WHO's the loudest voice in all of sports? We're talking about guys who are defending themselves arguments against just randomly accounts. And you would think I'll be the person. That's making the eighty-one references. Not You this thing. Greenie for for for today's player. You alluded to it and I talked about it earlier. There's so much multimedia consumption think about you're looking down at your phone you're looking at facebook. You're looking at twitter. You're looking at I G. You're looking at the television you're looking at. You is so much information that has to do with your name. Your brand and and other people get a chance to now. I'm in have opinions as well at some point. You feel like I'm making this a level of money. I have this much power. I'm going to defend myself. Because it can affect my brain. It could affect my followers. It could affect my appearances my endorsements so because bigger than what's happening I got released to the score. A Game Stephen. Our Vice Greenie to the plays themselves do what you can to cultivate relationships with people that you would like to disseminate message as opposed to lie. Rely on your hanger on who nobody in the media is to trust anyway. They don't hear from you. It doesn't matter in terms of the media. You know what be fair. Be Human and outside of that. Don't give a damn about what anybody has to say if they taught just because they don't talk to you doesn't mean they get to stop you from talking about them. Move on teary-eyed. I do it every day and I'm living quite right. But also Stephen Aid that's a strip. That's a discipline because wisdom and also a light skill what. I would say to people is. Don't take everything so very personal like we're really critiquing saying public. Consumption is not personal. And we're just trying to be professional cover. I I have to let it go there as much as the last thing on earth wants to do but Stephen Show starts sex minutes Steve. Thank you my man. You're the best Jalen thank you. There's a fascinating conversation. It's one that I think we can continue to have. Meanwhile they have a lot of fascinating conversations. Coming your way on. I hate coming up next. We'll continue talking about Kevin Durant on. I take both on and off the floor Stephen a match molly and company getting ready to roll. I take follows us on. Espn back on off with a bit of encouraging breaking news the Bundesliga in Germany. The nation's largest soccer league is expected to restart this month with may fifteenth. Being the first day it's eligible no fans will be allowed. Germany's ban on massive bench goes through August thirty first but still with only nine match days left in the schedule. Bundesliga plans to finish their season on time by June thirtieth so that can only be encouraging news. All right I have one minute left. Dominique I'm told you have something you want to say to Stephen and Jalen GO I. I think that I should congratulate them on effectively getting everyone off of their lawn because I just felt like they were attacking all these players in ways that I don't think are necessarily true. I think people have changed in. The world has changed but these players are fundamentally the same as they were backing today and it's hard for me to listen to them say that current athletes are a lot more sensitive. We're midway through a tin part documentary. Which main threat is how sensitive Michael Jordan was? He was talking trash to writers. In the same way that draymond green talks trash to Charles Barkley and talks trash to everyone else like it just feels like the medium is different but the players. They want it just as much as the players did back then. They're trying just as hard as players back there. Just as sensitive as the players were back. Then they're just doing it a little different so it just to me. It's frustrating to not have somebody there to represent the younger.

"Led to loss jobs. Increased stresses of every type and a diminishing of the social tapestry that binds it enhances our lives. After many weeks of following safer. At Home Protocols People are understandably restless and looking for an outlet. It is time again for baseball to serve at sums up the way I think so many of us feel so well and so here is got some Scott. I really appreciate you getting up early and doing this. What role do you see baseball and sports in general playing in lifting the country up through this unprecedented time? Well baseball has a history of doing this. Mike and and I think a lot of it is that we are. We're asking a lot of our society to isolate or asking him to stand home and I think giving them something that is a unifying dynamic Normalcy baseball What's done in the past? Y You know the politicians of our day president trump and and COAMO and and Chicago you know. Many many politicians are now seeking I think that aspect of normalcy that we want our American culture and yet we have to do it in a very safe manner and do it in a way that We know more about this virus The medical professionals have identified. This and I think baseball players being the age. They are being a In first class physical condition And also having a pre really standing prolong medical histories with the with their teams The the fact that they don't have the underlying medical conditions the the risk of mortality is a lot less with this employment group and it really allows them. I think Certainly base And now a a real understanding from the medical experts that we can certainly get start to get players ready and get them get them trained and ready and back in spring training. Well that brings us to a really important point and I would say that be should read the bed because he Scott gets very deeply into the history of how baseball has played this role in the past including President Roosevelt during World War. Two asking baseball's owners to bring baseball back because he felt important for the country. So it's very much worth reading but let's get to what you were just talking about. What conversations have you had with players about their desire to play and how they balance that with their concerns about safety well obviously the the players I represent you know. We've we've had conversations with low over one hundred major leaguers and you know the athletes are their their you know we have given them a lot of information from the many of the physicians that treat them The epidemiologist for the the data's is much more profound and exhibited today and I think one thing we know is said. This virus has a clear impact. It's not going away. It has a dramatic impact on those of of higher ages and people with underlying better conditions. And fortunately the the athletes of Baseball Those parameters carry much much less risk with this. We've looked at the hospital. Relation rates of people in this age group without underlying condition. We've looked at the Mortality Rates both in where they could play in spring training in those states You know one of the epidemiologists from UC Berkeley pointed out about being locally observant an appropriate as to how you wear and how you treat this virus and certainly those in Florida and Arizona and frankly and in many states now the mortality rates are much lower than they are in the northeast. So we've when you look at that and you look at the risk. They're related to the players. I think they're much more comfortable now. With with the returning also the treatments that are available now or more defined all therapeutics and And also very hopeful about vaccines in the future of the few players that I've had on here that we've talked to have also expressed to me some hesitancy regarding the quarantining itself so if baseball is going to come back as soon as possible. It seems likely the players are going to be for lack of a better word kind of separated from the rest of society for a reasonable significant period of time including possibly their families. What hesitation have you heard from your players regarding that? I think we have to set up models as we do in in medicine. And that is you. You can certainly had to spring training and I think players that I've certainly I represent representative all said they're willing to to look at this for thirty days and and be isolated and and and phase in spring training with say pitchers and catchers. I I think one of the things we have to consider Mike those that we we need to do this We have a little longer spring training because the players have been isolated this very unique setting that they've been in the last fifty days and we need a little more conditioning time with more time to before we get to the skill part of the game that we have in the past so it's a very different process but but I I think one thing that's clear is that we've we have involved the the people they're going to have doctors they're they're gonNA have their trainers there The isolation aspect. I think the players are willing to do to really take every precaution as we test before they go test when they arrive and really create an environment that we can after a thirty day or so period. Let everyone know that this. This group is healthy. We also have an international community that we have to do well in advance because we have to bring them here and get a look at where they're out that may be additional time. We have to have isolation spaces for those who test positive and we also have to have You know I think a period of time for those to integrate back in so it's It's going to take a little bit more time. I think the norm to to bring baseball back and get players ready and then I think during that time we can decide with the schedule as one thing. We're learning about this. The more time we spend studying the virus and collecting the medical information. The more efficient of a schedule. I think we can have and and we also have the month of October that we can use regular season now by the players agreement so I think we can put together something that can can really help America. I'd Scotland at a time here. I very much appreciate your doing this again. I recommend reading the OP. Ed in the Times Bring Baseball back a lot of interesting thoughts in there and let's stay in touch with WHO work our way closer to this. I'd like to hear your perspective. Thanks a million for doing this. Thank you Scott Boras. Again Major.

Contingency plans should the pandemic intensify work in conjunction with the Players Association and medical experts on a set of protocols so for more on that let's bring in our NFL insider. Dan Grazziano Dan. What more can you tell us about the NFL's contingency plans here look the NFL is looking ahead and expecting? They still say to play a season as usual. The schedule that comes out tomorrow night will reflect that. But it'll be interesting to see how it's bill because there have been some discussions about what do you do about. Equity if the season S to be shortened. If the season has to be delayed there have been talks about potentially building a schedule. Where the early part of the season would have interconference games and all the division games would be pushed back to later in the schedule remains to be seen whether they're able to pull that off but if they if they do if that's the schedule reflects tomorrow night when it comes out you'll know that that's why talking to people around this issue continues. Say They have optimism about a full season being played but they have to build in the possibility that it could be delayed. It could be short. And that there won't be fans in the stands that stadiums would be thirty or forty percent full so the NFL is looking at all possibilities. And they'll be guided by what the other leagues do and most importantly the public health situation as it evolves over the next couple of months. Chancellor that there's something really interesting to look for when they released that schedule see if they backfill if you will all the division games to later in the season well done Dan. "Of that league and everything but college football. So they'll play those five. And I would think Notre Dame would be able to attract a number of other games that they opened the season as as we all know against navy in Dublin highly. Suspicious net game will take place in Ireland So I think Notre Dame can can fill out those other spots and I think what you're hearing when conference commissioners indicate that we could play a conference only schedule. What they're really saying. We don't think we'll start. September fifth or Notre Dame's case a week earlier. Okay interesting what? You haven't had a chance in this conversation yet this morning as you hear these conversations about some schools some conferences being ready before others. What do you think green clearly? You see the economics really playing out in this whole situation here. I mean we're talking about her. Say in the last hour herm Edwards. Say he doesn't see a possibility of students on campus how the plants could allow out there on flips out at the economics that plays into these called programs and how out of funds. Alati programs that is looming large in this situation. So we have a situation where you know certain certain section of the country reopening it and certain Certain such aren't and you're GonNa see that's the advantage you know. If somebody's schools are able to play. They could share revenue with the other schools within their conference. Oh money is looming large furry margin a situation dominic. I'm trying to remove any of my biopsies in this as we discuss it because you and I think standing a lot of the same places as far as the notion of amateurism but if you just step back and look at it. I think that this is going to have to change people's viewpoint on fundamentally because no one can possibly debate now. That money is driving everything we can we can. We can have pretended as much as we wanted to up until this but I think objectively speaking. No one can pretend that this is about anything more significantly than it is about money as we watch the way this is being handled the irony of potentially going into a season where there won't be any students on campus but these players may have to come to campus to play these games they that kind of qualifies them as essential employees. The irony of that also tried to say that they are not employees. They do not have jobs is quite rich so I understand where you're coming from and understand where Paul said. He doubts that will play. "That right. You're in. I just read the ball better off the bat from right field and left Field Marshall Cubs Indians game seven. I mean the entire game like it's a very rewatch ballgame. It's it's basically like What frozen is two three year olds? That game is to me like I can. Just I could watch that every day if you put that on the TV I'll watch it But like moment Like the Dee Gordon Homer After Jose Fernandez passed out said that one Not that it's like. Oh Man I love that moment. It's just I'd say it probably drew the strongest response for me Yeah I'd probably say those two fraud another honorable mention sorry Jay Felix Hernandez his final start. Seattle was incredible. I was I was there which is why I'm bias but I wanted to bring it up just because it's the tip of the cap the mirrors fan base who have supported that dude from day one and it's a tip of the Cap Felix because he took the time after the gain to embrace. I mean not literally but to the extent that was possible every single fan. That was there in some form or fashion. You know a wave a picture and embrace it was just. It was very emotional when it was really cool because you understand the gravity of that situation for a guy who never got what ultimately wanted in that city which is what we're all after when we play this game but to feel the affection and the love shared between him and that city was was an amazing baseball. Jared what is your favorite pink floyd album richer here rank these shortstops for the next five years. Bischette Torres Totti's junior this actually question for the draft. I'm going to go to retain one three two one so we you guys both have taty has one. And then jared has yet to Torres Three Dau. No I have Jared went torres tongues. Bishop yes got it okay. I went Bush. Excuse me I went torres or excuse me touchiest Tour Okay. So for both. This is a good question. Is this the Scott Boras episode? Yes yes hopefully by now. Who would be the worst? Starting nine host to be quarantined with Dallas. He's he's easily Jerry deadly Dallas. He's fucking angry all the time. The shortest fuse of anyone ever known. He's up yelling playing video games when you're trying to be sleeping He's fucking GONNA eat all of your snacks so like say goodbye or whatever you fuck in risk your life to go get the grocery store. Because he's just gonNA eat that I would probably be the best because I just sit there. Are there have been days during this quarantine while just sit on my couch and like scroll my phone and like the TV isn't even like I. I'm basically a ghost like I could like if if there were any alarms in my apartment that went off based on sound or movement. They wouldn't go off with me. You want entertainment. You won't feel good vibes. You come hang out with your boy. We're going to get through this all through this. Now you'll you'll you jump out a window into like a pool of gasoline like wall covered in and flames. So you'RE GONNA have to learn how to like walk and talk all over. Get you're stuck a room with jared for three months. It'll be like your own place if you like being. If you like being alone come hang out with me. Dallas last question for people who struggle with overthinking in baseball. Can you tell us how you got through the last few innings in your perfect game and specifically when you fell three behind fell behind three to one to the final batter? What was your mindset? Like how were you able to make remain calm? Jaffa tape count was never three one. So sorry about that I can't was thrilling. But there's a great story behind that our Honestly like like just to be to be serious for a minute. I have never forgotten and have always appreciated where I've been how I've gotten there and in the world of baseball the game of baseball and specifically that day there was no different And if I'm look the ninth inning. There's a first time I'd ever seen the ninth inning ballgame so my ultimate goal was to just not fuck this up. That's what I kept telling myself. Baby this don't baby this but we're trying to win the ballgame. Whatever you're going to reap individually aside from this is what it is. You're really not in control of that as much as you want to be. So just don't fuck this up and that's kind of my mindset For for life for the most part you're going to get in your own way at times to the best of your ability. Just try not to fuck this up. File thoughts I'll be honest going into Corentin and the League being shut down and all this I was like fuck. How are you gonNa find things to talk about for a baseball? Podcast no baseball. I don't think there's ever been a podcast that I've gone into dreading it being like. This is GonNa suck like this is this is GonNa be a chore. This is going to be a bill. I feel like every time that we've done starting nine during quarantine We've gone over two hours which is fucking insane and we could. We could in theory do more because we have such a huge backlog of interviews that we haven't yet from Either ones that we've done over zoom since we've Been in quarantine. And then we have a bunch from the spikes up tour Zona and were continuing to add to that. That log of Of Our interviews also. I think it's cool. That people are still listening. Because I know I've I've talked to a few people that are like hey man sorry. I haven't been listening because I usually list. I commute or I usually listen at work in I I understand like that's part of your routine and But for the people that have carved out time to still listen to the podcast or listen to the interviews or whatever we appreciate you You make an a new routine as we're all sort of adjusting to this new fouled life. But you know what jared I'm not gonNA take it easy on you sons of bitches that haven't been getting her hacks in the cage just because we got a little drizzle outside right now doesn't mean you can't stay sharp doesn't mean that we don't get some tea working doesn't mean that we can't get our chattel.

"I'm a cold brew guy. Are you sweetened or unsweetened no? I'm just give it to me raw unload. Okay all right let it. I like to do it a little. Bit Sweetened Yeah. I had I had the life actually bring up a death wish coffee after I finished truly at nine. Am this morning. I HAVE. I haven't I haven't tried the the unsweetened yet I've done like the the sweeten cold brew very good taste for the for the bean man and you do like once you start tasting different flavors and different roasts. You really do start to develop a taste you know you. Start to develop a pallet for it and you learn to appreciate shit this just kind of thrown together and stuff that has you know some love behind it. Yeah have you have you seen any of this the MLB players that plan that will be the show? Jeff McNeil Last was it last week. Yeah he's the mets representative in this. Mlb The show league But Fernando tortillas junior yes playing as himself bill going deep ellum months out three times as himself. That's pretty bad ass tasty. There's nothing more you want. I'm telling you right now. There's three things you're thinking about. Maybe four but I think three things. Initially when you're thinking about becoming a big league ball player you want your own baseball card. You WANNA be in a video game and for me I wanted. I wanted poster like I wanted to be on a poster to like those. Were the like you've made it? This is how you know. You're a big league right. Someone's collecting your baseball card. Ever after the perfect game was there a Dallas Breeden Cardboard cutout like. I feel like there's probably one Honda dealership somewhere. There's yeah I'm I'm huge in the Republican district But I don't know that there's anything stateside. Here that celebrates me the way I feel like board cut out SIP of cardboard cut up. Put it like this. The reason you say cardboard cutout is because that is like. That's the Puck Pinnacle. Yeah like cardboard cutouts even bigger than billboard. I mean that's just how I like. I've got a life size. I'm staring at it. Nolan Ryan sponsored by a Beer Company and I had this cardboard cutout I got this cardboard cutout from the corner liquor store in my old neighborhood. This isn't original. He's had he had this thing as a real fucking cardboard cutout prop like the day that it got sent to him to put up in. Promo his beer stack. Yeah thirty years later. He still had it standing up same spot and I. I don't know six or seven years ago I went back and and got it and had it framed and put up and everything. And it's yeah. It's seen that I've seen that. Yeah Yeah your boy cut out Roy. You've you are here. Yeah I've checked. I've checked some boxes but until I checked the cardboard cutout box. I don't know I I I did the You know when they do like those the the big faces the hold up in like the crowds at College Basketball Games. Yeah I've been one of those there you go but that's not enough. I need full body. Cardboard cutout yeah. Yeah Life Size. I mean it wouldn't take much cooler full to get that full body cut out of the rocky. You could probably use you probably use a shoebox. Now that I think about it. The most confusing thing I've ever encountered in my entire life is Dallas's just persistence with the with the short jokes when you might be an inch and a half taller than me. What's what what's the operative word there? What the caller is the operative word speech? You'd say we we lock them up. I thought he froze but it was. Just it's just a complete actual walk up through through jared twelve six twelve six vocab. We're going back to the players league thing I watched a little bit of Jeff McNeil incredibly any good..

"Back to story all for so one. Sixty five is the Scott. Boris episode it is. It's an episode that I've been looking forward to for a long time. Choke Dallas Holy Shit doing a apparently. I'm drinking truly at nine. Am instead of all my God what what just happened. Well I've got what it what it Asshole I had. I thought I reached in and grabbed a death. Wish coffee I thought I reach those goals. Bruce Yeah apparently not Z. Grabbed a truly. Apparently I grabbed a mango limited. Truly instead of the the death wish coffee I mean I get a lot of flack on this podcast or not. Being able to read feel like it's more spread out than it ever has been looked. This was a mere oversight. All right I was just trying to grab a refreshment on the way. If you just read the can there later literally stacked next to each other on the on the show they they labeled the same thing or they're both black cans so it's you prefer for a pictures. They're both cans with white writing and it's been going the same or is it. Yeah I believe it's Helvetica Font size eight. It's also. The font is the Samba other. The words World News like there's a lot of the same words on these cans calories total. Yeah so when you start there really. I'm right I think it's pretty easy to see confused. Yeah no doubt no doubt you could make the mistake. There have you ever. What's is I feel like it's coming out of my nose right. What is what's the worst. What's the worst flavor to anticipate? And just not be what you thought it was GONNA be. You know what I mean. Yeah so happen to us. What just would I just did to myself? I would say I'd say when you when you think that you reached for your Paul and springs bottle of Arnold Palmer. But it's really last night's dip spit. Oh yeah yeah no that. That's always bad news. Yeah but I've been there many times. Yeah well all the the Dude Junior College Jerry. I we get in all my God. We get into the because we had to drive in the morning. Probably like this is what I live with my catcher shutout. Joe Mercer he he drives like five in the morning so we can get to weights and in the Cup holder was like a McDonald's cup with a Straw right and we had been stopping at McDonald's. Whatever on the wit so it was just like natural for me to think. Yeah this is one of the juices that we got or whatever but it's in the morning so I'm not even thinking and Oh yeah that wasn't a fresh nojeim now now but there was plenty of pulp. It's definitely it's definitely one of the worst experiences in it's it's basically unavoidable if you're in the game like you're like you're GonNa get it It's going to happen to you. It's just a matter of when we do have Scott. Boris on the PODCASTS. Yeah I've been Like anyone that's somewhat friends with that either had or has Scott Board Boris as an agent. I'm like they do the pod like Lotta people have been like. Yeah Fuck Yeah. I think he do. Pot like yeah. No you're you're you know. There's no way I'd I didn't think that he was a guy he did. He told shake I know. I know like the then like you'll see in the interview. It's borderline impossible to get into Boris Corp to get inside those walls so it's like all right. Well when is the guy is probably always on his phone with clients with teams? I mean there's there's probably no end to his workday sound like when is he going to sit down and do like? There's no offseason for an agent like your during the season you're busy you've got clients. There's there's all kinds of shit going on the off season and you're even more busy. Your off season is you're on season so you're saying you're saying took a global pandemic a global stay at home stay inside order for us to kneel downs. That's not actually what I'm saying. You got a good sense though right the minute and before we even really before we started recording. And we're just kind of getting into the getting into the conference room and all that Jazz You get a good sense of how personable. He is If you know him and how how he can go from being that. I don't WANNA say callous. Because he's not a callous individual but how he can go from being someone that are standoffish intimidated by two. Oh Wow we just jumped like five degrees of friendship into second like. That's that's amazing. Can he can do that for you. Yeah it was. I think he. I don't know what my perception was before the interview but I do know that what I came away from the interview with did not align with the pre interview perception. No absolutely not. Let me ask you what were you. Because you've heard I told you about him. I've talked to you about him. But even before that what was your perception. What were you thinking? What was something that you like? Oh I'M GONNA find out if this is true like this is an opinion that I've had of him. I'm not walking away from this interview without figuring out for myself. If this is indeed the case what was that I think what I I thought I was that you know you. You were meeting with him but he he did. He never got the point where he was your agent I've never met him in passing at all. I've I saw him a Christian Yelich. Just charity softball. Game didn't get the chance to talk to them. Didn't get the champs introduce myself Scott Boris to me is a figure in baseball. That is kind I like. I mean he's eat. Let's face it. He's the he's the king of kings comes to baseball agents out there so I don't know if there's an ego there where he comes in being like I know that I'm this this monster of the industry in I don't care to even know your name. But he did. He knew my name he used it and and I think that that sort of bridges the gap between like all right. This is kind of like you know we can. We can have some fun with this versus like. Oh this means business and we we can't. We can't have fun with this and we were able to. That's part of the interaction. And that's what I mean by. If you know him right he's a completely different animal. He's just a completely different beast. My very first interaction with Scott was he was a guest speaker at the University of Pacific. Had like had a dinner like a first pitch hot stove type dinner and he was a guest speaker there and you know we spoke in knew who I was whatever but you just got a real good sense of how he went about business in terms of being in the public eye and interacting with people engaging people because they all have the same kind of questions that we had we just got to ask them out being the fifty million hundred million two hundred million two hundred like he's that guy every time each one of those contracts aside from the era doubled piece was represented by a different ballplayer. But the guy who got that bred the guy behind breading up those chicken titties was the same chef in the kitchen every single time. And that's Scotty B. That's SB as you heard him say jer. But I knew that I knew that it wasn't even a question partly because I had already talked to him about it when he was with The Oakland A.'s top draft pick in Oakland last year. And I got to talk a little bit about that But you know we had lined that up. Yes absolutely But having the interaction with him that courtship between he and I I was able to explain to him why I decided to not go with him and decided to not utilize his services and it was out of the ultimate respect for me for the game and for the business and how maybe business should be handled. I knew that I was not going to be fetching another contract. I knew what my arm situation was. So there was no need for me to go and attain new representation for what to have somebody else sell a broken bill of goods to another team like. That's not that's just not how I was going to roll. That's not what I was going to do to the Kurt Representation. I had and that's not what I was going to do to Scott. Boris and Boards Corp. That's that's not who I am. And being able to share that with him later down the road being able to explain that to him and have him fully understand and respect that moving forward and him convey that to me that like talk about memories. That's something we're not going to be able to Google. That's not something I'll be able to log onto the web and recall but that's a baseball memory for me. That lasts a lifetime and I was really excited because I know how important it was for you to be able to sit down and ask he in him these types of questions and get that kind of insight so it was. It was a really cool day for me to just to kind of watch that all happen. Yeah yeah no I I Very rarely do I get like dry. Feel like the juices pumping BA flight. Hours before an interview. Usually I mean we'll we'll roll up to a fucking camp and we'd through the car wash. We'll have guys come in off the boss. Big names guys that like. I'm excited to talk to just. We just released a Chris Paddock interview. I think last week that was one that I was really really looking forward to. But you get to a certain point in your career where I it's it's. It's almost the same thing where it's like if I were to sit down with Nomar like someone that's a big deal when you're a kid that they're always going to be a big deal to you someone that's a big deal now and you're an adult. It's whatever like let's chop it up like you know. Some of these guys are fucking younger than me. Now but Scott Boris. That's a guy. He was a big deal. Allows a kid too. I talk and you know back when I was in high school. That's that's essentially. When I was introduced to Scott Boris in and I brought it up in the interview. How they're so growing up and kind of what got me into blogging. There's this website called Boston dirt dogs and it was a red sox fan blog whatever and anytime at Scott. Boris would come up the picture that they would use is Scott Boris and it was a it was a it was a drawing of him. It was all red and he had the devil horns and all this stuff and they were like the bumper stickers. Scott Boras ruined baseball. Like all this like I want to get. These payers played payers pay players paid. And who helps do that better than anyone? It's Scott Boris but that that shows the growth of the baseball fan the maturity of a baseball fan. When it's like you come into it and you're like Oh Scott Porras's the devil. He wants all these players to get so much money and you know the teams have to shell out all this money if they wanNA keep them in. That means all your favorite players are going to go to different teams and then you grow up and you're like all these players deserve the fook and money like their Scott. Boris is helping them get their piece of the pie so that the owners aren't just profiting buckets and buckets of money. Off The efforts of these players who are being fairly compensated. So it's it's almost like I've you know you don't understand that as a fan though when you're a little kid you see the guy who represents the reason your favorite players now somebody else's favorite player because he's on their favorite team and not yours. Roll up your earn money. You Pay Uncle Sam. You realize who Uncle Sam starts to represent your yell On a need that dude to get all of the Cheese Ville his barrel completely with iron and let celebrate him but something. Something that hasn't changed for me. Is that sinking feeling in your stomach when a guy is represented by Boris. Go come on. Yeah there's that label the label of drafty the label of a free agency. Like the or we're going to arbitration. He's a Boris. We're going to arbitration. Yeah like free agency we can. We can pass this sheet of paper across the desk and we can show them the number and that's great. We'll see you in court. Yeah like that's just that's going to happen..
Scott Boras, Baseball And Murray discussed on CBS Sports Radio
"We were told here's quarterback class. Not that great. Because of the quarterbacks that we saw last year Mayfield. Darnold, Allen rose in Jackson. There was a lot more excitement last year with the quarterbacks this year, though for all this talk of the quarterbacks aren't that great? The quarterbacks always dominate the conversation that draft they do Murray goes one who could have predicted that five months ago. And Scott Boras told y'all all he's always going to play baseball baseball baseball. And the next thing, you know, Murray who got picked in the top ten of the baseball draft ends up going number one in the football draft. Then you have the giant surprising everyone taking January Jones at number six and a giant Vince every yesterday because I've been critical of the organization and been critical. Dave, Gettleman even. Before the draft. And they said well the rest of the draft wasn't terrible. And I explained it to them. That's nice player. Not a pass rusher though. The Andre Baker nice player cornerback out of Georgia. They got the edge rusher from Old Dominion. We'll see what he will do Julian love from Notre Dame. Okay. You could tell me they had a a nice draft.
