"Wonder how Chris Archer feels about all this think. He's tired of hearing about it. Probably, yes I'd like. He's the type of person who's I, think psyche can't handle the concept of them being a complete bust. I think he's also. There's probably also I'm reading. I'm projecting a little bit, but I would personally be frustrated if all of my best seasons came when I was. Not Well compensated relative to the game that I signed a team friendly contract, and I'm never getting that big payday that perhaps you were hoping for in the back end. He'll be fine for his life. He's made a lot of money, but One of the most team friendly deals in baseball to at the time it was signed. I can't wait. I can't wait for the sixty man roster thing, and just the opportunity to maybe some of these guys in part time roles and spot starts and stuff like that. I. Think could be really fun and that's that's what I was excited. About is because I think are also this. I hope at some point in time. However quickly. This moment comes when teams realized that they're just not going to be in the mix you know even though all thirty six teams are making the playoffs If, your team's just not in the mix. Are you going to give your guys that opportunity you know? I think about the Kansas City. Royals who they got body with junior that they'll just drafted brady singer as well. Those are a couple of guys. Well, you know depending on where the Royal Shakeout in the central or any sort of postseason picture looks like those guys just get more tick so that. They can accumulate that. You know that that that time that experience. It's going to be a cool wrinkle. It's the wrinkle on most looking forward to than that stupid ass, elimination of fake games and results that don't count which we talked about on the last podcast or whatever? That's great. That's what's best for baseball I got some final thoughts. If we want to get into that ooh. What are we Nari not building a pitcher? Do you WANNA do that? Yeah, are you guys prepared to go? Yeah? Yes. There's not gonna be any luke void stuff is there. I mean again. I've yet to have anybody named me a stronger individual than Luke. Boyd so power I. I'll edit this. I'll at part. We can do to build a picture stuff. I, do have a hard out at two. We have thirty five minutes which should be plenty for what we have remaining. Okay. Are you guys ready to build your perfect pitcher I am on, so we don. We build our perfect hitters a couple of weeks I built a perfect hitter. You guys did something else I think you guys were participating in a different exercise, but We're GONNA. Do it with hitters or pitchers today. Everybody gets four pitches to choose from I think I think I think should almost be a draft. Oh. Where where if you claim this person's pitch yeah. You don't like that way. We avoid you know one picking Garrett Cole Fast. Can We? Can we defer this next week? Then, Alexander. We're going to. Do. You have a list of something that doesn't match up with what we're drafting. Surprise. Surprise! J just make you an easy, not having the information necessary. Strap. This was on the run down last week and I point blank. Asked you two assholes. If you're ready to do it, and you said definitely not, so we deferred it to this week. I like the idea of a draft which means we're going to take. We're GONNA. Take a beat and I'm ready. I'll go. I am not ready. I'm not ready for the draft. Oh, so gay has a reputation to a poll. We're turning this into another official starting nine data starting nine draft then we're doing it on episode one seventy nine. I'm already texting Ozzy about the. Winners graphic made so let me let me ask this question can, and maybe it's an obvious answer. Would it be more interesting? If once like say. Say Somebody took Jacob degrom fastball. Does that into? Up Out of circulation like that idea, yeah, like once the arm is named. It's done. He only has one arm to share. Yes, like drafting the player uses great, this is. Your. Song takes one like ver- landers fastball lenders curve ball. You take his curveball fastballs off the table. There's more strategy when it's that way to this is gonNA. I'm GonNa fucking nail this guy. This was an absolutely beautiful loose phases lazardo SPAs ball. Hogwash wider who else have we interviewed. Encouraging slider I would show you my list right now. But, I'm not giving away anything net book and Lazardo. Comment hurt her. We. saw. Scott Boras still has his fastball I'll take mass ball. So this is a great time to prepare the grounds crew for the auction draft that I have been clamoring for Yup that I want as well so. I don't know when that will come hopefully soon, but we also want to an auction draft so that we can start putting money where the mouth czar right? So stay tuned for the auction draft. I will be putting together the best. Pitcher universes faced Jared J. will also try to do that I'm excited about this I'm not talent. Official above third place finish. Military. Talent I'M GONNA take. Dallas Braden's fastball. Dallas won the not to be confused with Dallas Britain's change. Smart Dallas brains underhand. Fastball! Action fastball this was an incredible promo. For episode one nine strapped excited I'm gonNA. Be I. Mean Obviously, I'M GONNA win. Final thoughts. Final thoughts I'll fucking see next week to claim that Title I got. A Guy. "In I in E, not starting nine nine in I in E.. R. At you guys way too long. Enough Scott Boris. The interview number to a different Scott Boris not like this was a Scott Boras talking about everything every question that you would want to ask Scott Boris. A what the fuck has been going on in the baseball world over the last few weeks. We asked it. We got answers so without further ado. My agent. Scores. All right He's back, Scott Boras my agent first question that I have to ask you is like I. Know that you're on your phone a lot for your job. How much has your call? Volume increased since becoming my agent. Well we you're known as career Biz. We change your last name, and so that's fine call. It's all about that I mean. That's your advice that you WanNa take and if you know if that's what leads to the bank account expanding than we're all for it, but worry. We made the decision internally that you have golf voice I love that, and so we're. We're GONNA. Have you instead of doing the starting nine? We're going to have you do the whole eighteen, okay? There's a lot of money in golf to Scott. You can't just shut down. I, mean, let's let's be help me help you. Let's make money together. All about soothing and whispering it. That pre. Voice that must. Be, ready to shoot. down. Since since the last time that we talk to you, a lot has happened in the baseball world I was the biggest of that being. We actually have baseball, but I think so. We recorded our last episode yesterday. We're like cautiously optimistic. I. Think would be the phrase that we have baseball. There's an agreement. Players are going to camps. How confident are you because we're? We're really not that confident that a season will get completed. Are you confident that games will get played in like if we're talking out? A lot can happen the code world in terms of things changing. So, what's your stance on? If a season, we'll even start if they do. Start will be completed if they is there a chance that the postseason gets canceled where you at right now. I think they're. What we know about Kobe today what age group. A It really impacts. We've been operating baseball now. Internationally aged for. Almost three months we had. Ohio species of for this for this age group. or the coaching staffs that I'm aware. And, so that to me allows us to understand that the virus ended up itself with protocols. can be managed internally. We have the ability to conduct games. Games and get games on television. In ballparks without fans with probably maybe. A hundred and twenty five people present something along that line, and we will have the ability to test those people. we will have a regimented Diaz tick on a daily basis, and so that I think creates an arena. That's repetitive. And and remember that we're not dealing with the outside world as much as we are with the containment.

"Year. It was not effective, not not great great. Are. We going to see a guy. We're GONNA see. Just like started the third inning Shit's not going well. You know maybe a couple of back to back, and then a double, and then another double or something. He's like you know what guys. Yet going breakout that copays list I think now's a good time to opt out I think I think world under WHO's the football player? WHO's the football player that retired at halftime? Yeah? You went to the University of Illinois to WHO. He was a Detroit Lions cornerback. Right, hold on, you just shut down. Out -solutely peeled on. Just yeah, fuck, you peel known. It was. It was vaunted Davis Yeah and he was with Buffalo at the time, so I was. Retired at halftime. This shit is just not for me. I respect it. He says I shouldn't be out there anymore. I shouldn't be out there. You would know right. That's that's me and my bowling. League in East Boston Tyre Tyre and like the fuck in the middle of the second-string. Seat now meeting. Hey where you going. He just throws the ball behind. Where you go, I got enough I should not be out there. Yeah I got a question for you Dallas. Your thirty six years old. If your shoulder had held up, you could bury well conceivably still be in major league baseball right now. You have two young kids, a wife and your grandmother lives with you the as have a very good chance applying postseason baseball this year. How do you handle? That like is that? Is that a conversation that like you like? Are you bringing? Obviously, you're including your family in the conversation and and knowing meg. I feel like should be like listen. This is your dream. This is your life like we support you. But even with that encouragement. And we all know how big of a Dallas Brayden. Fan. Your grandmother is and I mean, and she's just goes rogue sometimes. I feel like she would just be like. Go out there and do it, so where would even let's just say? That was the case if they were like? Hey, we support you. Go out there and do it. For you knowing that you're a protector of them. And obviously your two kids. They can't give you an opinion on what you should do. How would you handle this? I? It would be a very long drawn out conversation about what life looks like after baseball season, and you know like my grandma and I have a great relationship we've been able to. We talk about absolutely anything. But like you had to remember this was this was the woman who saw me head off to college and didn't see her for months at a time, and then I get drafted. and. I go to fucking Canada haven't seen her for half a year. Then I go to Illinois. And finally come back after this so over half a year right and that's how our life has been. Where Hey, if I get a text or a phone call I know you're good to go well. That doesn't really get it done. If, if you're gone you know like I can't send that text. I can't. I can't make that phone call and so I, think it would be. I think it would be an easy decision for me to make at this point in time all things being equal on thirty six years old have been able to put myself in the position. I've done financially. I would be cheering my ass off for my teammates. I would be cheering my ass off and that's just. That's because of I. Guess how? Hell appreciate if I am of everything that I have and. I would not be trying to tempt fate. A yes is the way I would look at it. I would want each and every day after this season to spend with my children and with my grandmother and the hypotheticals over. What if what if? I could do that I don't think that I would be able to do that All I can take it this far if my grandmother didn't live with me. Then, it would be a very different situation I believe and and I would. I would heavily way the ability to you know not come home or excuse me the ability to. Be Able to come home and be able to go about my day. Those are things that I would have to be you know really consider if I was a single guy, jared no, no worries. No anything well. I could give fuck tell me where to sleep. I will sleep on all of the needles. You're getting ready to stick into people to test covert. Covert I will sleep on all of the potentially positive Kobe tests. Just so that that doesn't leak out in any of my teammates I will do whatever I needed to do. If I was a single guy with nobody else depending on, so so, what do you think guys in a in a similar situation as you like obviously like? Remove your grandmother Guys. That are like I got a wife at home. TWO YOUNG KIDS! Like what do you think is going through their mind right now because? Like the way you're describing it. Is that you even? Like you would have a conversation obviously if it was if it was the wife and kids. I think like your grandmother obviously changes the dynamic drastically. But guys that even just have like the wife and kids. Like! What do you think they're going through right now? What right now first and foremost the first thing that comes across your mind unfortunately. Is it.

"He's back. He is Scott. Boris returns to starting nine. This I don't know like a month ago. That he was on, it was a big deal when he was on the first time. It's an even bigger deal now that he's back because there's many more things to discuss I feel like in the first interview it's it was like a get to know Scott Boris type deal like. Let's talk about the job we I mean. We talked to him about a few things but now. I think because. The first interview went so well. and I'm sure that over there at the Boris Corp there. They've got all these there. There's probably more monitors at Boris Corp than there are at the FBI. Those people are monitoring everything at all times so they probably saw the feedback and they're like Oh. Let's get. Let's get Scotty be back on starring nine. So that's what happened. Scott Boras. Boras back, it's a no brainer. Yeah, you get the MLB mouthpiece on the Mike and you'll let him go. Put Him on a t and you'll let him swing, and that's exactly what happened. There's a lot of folks who are interested in what the most powerful agent in all of sports has to say, especially during some of the back, and forth that we've experienced with the negotiations and. And you just want you want an opinion of somebody who has been there someone who has been in the trenches, and that's exactly what espy represents is he's got the the hearts and the best interest in mind of the players. He loves the game, and he rubs a lot of people the wrong way because he is not afraid to put the finances and the business of baseball right. Right in your face, he will beat you over the head with it. Just make sure you understand why. His players deserve what they deserve why he's going after what he's going after and frankly where he's coming from when he talks about the good of the game and the interest of the game, so he is a voice that many people whether you like him or not value in hearing. I know that I don't know if he has any interest because I mean obviously he makes more money doing what he does now than he would in this position, but do you think that Scott Boras would make a good? Commissioner Baseball. I think he would have I think he would have? A very well invested interest in the game benefiting, but that is coming from a place of bias right now because I understand. How much he wants to go to bat for the player, and if you're going to bat for the player, alter not work for the owners. You're not working for the owners, and and you're just. You're not the guy in position that the owners can trust to keep their invested interests safe as well so while I think. He would do a fine job of having the games best interest. At Heart, and he would make the necessary adjustments and moves and concessions at the right time I. Just don't like there's no chance the owners would ever be like. Yeah, you know what we'll put the rest of. We'll put the history aside will the past in the past, and we'll just move forward clean slate Scotty from your like no, yeah, and I was GONNA say like. Maybe he would do well. With an advisor to the commissioner role, but like he pretty much already just does that for free, but he's just. He's throwing those ideas out there, but here here's a free one. Let's let's Let's get this. We'll talk about in the interview which is coming up later in the PODCAST, but he does have an idea that is very unique and I. Think it's a great idea. I think also biased because I and there there would definitely be fans who aren't crazy about the idea. Because of their teams current situation historically, but I'll just say this as someone who has seen their team win the world series at. At Home and in Rhode Ballparks, I'm cool that I. Like the idea, but I can see why. Some fans be resistant to it, but that's just a teaser. That's just a little. It's a little teaser. We'll get through later particular. Get to that later. There's other topics that we have to discuss before we get into Scott Boris interview Both of you Jay Dallas the Ian Desmond instagram posts that dropped. Night was making some waves i. it was one of those things where I saw that. It was multiple slides, and there was a lot of texts on each slide so as I got a I can read. Tough, but then as I'm reading through it. I didn't want it to end like I want it to be. One of those Players Tribune pieces where it was like You got any more of these. These stories you have I mean like it was. It was really well written. I thought it was very obvious to tell that he took a lot of time to think about this. It was like oftentimes we'll see players post. You know like they'll type something in the notes section of their iphone, and then screen shot and post it. You can tell that it was just basically a along version of a tweet where they think something and they just puke it onto their phone and then put it out there. What Ian Desmond put out there on. Tuesday night is Tuesday Monday days. It Tuesday night. Monday night. Yeah, we know you're a fucking clue at data's Monday night. He posts this on his instagram page and I mean we're not gonna read the whole thing, but. If you haven't read it, go check out. His instagram It's really well written really well thought out, and it hits on a lot of different issues with in baseball, not just at the major league level like we discussed, or he discusses issues at the major league level, but then we're just talking about baseball as a whole and and Desmond is a guy that you don't often hear from you. Don't often hear about so I thought it was really interesting that something like this was coming from player. That's not known to be super vocal an outspoken about certain issues..

"They might have been just kicking it taking it easy the entire time so I know we talked to Alex. Alex corn on Tampa. Bay and we were kind of asking him similar type Washington. He just mentioned that their whole team already talked about just really being smart living incorrectly doing what they should be doing in terms of on their own in quarantine so I. Really don't think it's going to help older or younger. It's just gonNA depend on who's taking of themselves throughout this three four month break. So the draft lottery was on Thursday or Friday. Night G. Oh, here, we go, so you in fate for people who didn't see the NHL did the draft lottery? They decided the first whatever it was eight picks ten packs, and it was eight picks and then. The last, no, the number one pick they left blank said there's going to be a face to where they decide. WHO GETS THE NUMBER ONE PICK? What did you did you did? They say this was coming this or is this a total like m? Night Shamlan Twist E-eh this was a serious twist, but it was sole perfect i. mean like whatever what's that? If, he'll know. What's IT Murphy's law anything that can go wrong will. Is that it? Yeah, yeah, we can change that to which I liked that. Just take credit for me. What to me remember not law I. I didn't understand the exact rules, but going in I was reading about the lottery, but I was a right. WE'LL STILL DETROIT DETROIT should get it. Betrayal was just. Just horrific this year for anyone who is in a hawk, and just a horrible season. They needed that first overall picks can be this kid. The frontier from the Quebec junior the on saying his name wrong, but he's sick, so I was watching figuring Detroit would get it. They got the best odds, and if not, it's another team as implying anymore, and what do you know? If. The number one place card is just an NHL. Old. On dragged you guys all in for this big lottery show. Now we gotta make sure we're just wait a couple more months to we see who gets out from the play fake ground in the Corona, Cup so it's like what what else could happen. It makes total sense so the one thing I was confused about was that. I texted. Spitting chocolates group I said so canteen will wins the Stanley Cup get first overall an Ra was trying to explain it to me making zero sense, but he ended up saying the Rangers are the only team who could like Realistically Win The Cup and get the first overall pick, but it's crazy. Crazy ought that would happen, but which law so you never know, maybe the Rangers. Do you pull this out? Everyone's saying it's rig. They put corner, mcdavid and Edmund then. There's no chances. Do, they do the frozen envelope. There have been conspiracies. It would be like a warm envelope for a hockey guy, but has has there been any accusation of this type of thing surrounding the NHL. David Stern. There was a lot of talk around Sidney. Crosby in terms of Pittsburgh Penguins. GonNa move again city. US Mario Lemieux team was gone all of a sudden after a lockout. They get they get the number one pick. Sidney Crosby I got to be rookies with them, and and then he you know good story right so I don't know that you'd. Be Wonder that up all the time. I don't know I never mentioned that on the show I didn't want to be. One of those people who Brag, but I did play with them, and that was. That was an instance where you could say. Was this thing rig? Pittsburgh's given the next greatest player of all time, so we'll see I. I just feel bad for Detroit redwings fan I love the redwood, not my team growing up, so I do feel bad for them What's so if they play? Give us say the team you think's going to win and maybe a dark horse team. Okay, okay, I said all year that I like Tampa just because of what they went through last year, and then bouncing back and kind of starting off. Slowing is really picking things up before all the now. Not that means nothing now, but I just refused to believe a team. That good isn't GonNa win a Stanley Cup at some point in these few years so I'm just GonNa. Keep taking them every year. You know how that learn and a dark horse team, a dark horse team. I like. Man. That's a tough one a team that. Team. Who got in and they shouldn't have if it wasn't for the Corona, Cup, let's go to blackhawks. Yep, you say ain't pedigree Yup. They had in Greece. Italy he went into Crawford. Get Hot. You get you know you get a little momentum. You don't have to go on the road. I actually think correct me if this is way off, but I actually do think the first round like there will be a benefit to play in that first round playoff hockey five game series in. They're gonNA jump on some of those seeds that aren't don't fully have that like ooh doer, Di Mentally. Mentally yet because they've been just skating around playing the seating games, it don't really matter when there's not as much as steak I know, and they don't. And indeed games mean so much more to the teams like for move on as opposed to the teams to figure out the seating. It's such I mean if the council, I'm not chirping them. This had to be done yet to figure out something. They're doing the best they can. Show yeah, and so the other team..

"Take fifteen percent off. You will not be unhappy that I sent you. You'll be thrilled billy quickly. I actually love the whoop. Because like you know you do a workout. You're like oh I'm going to do twenty sprints Yup. But it tells you how hard you work sprint so. So, it's like so you know when you're finishing no into like it's actually awesome like I'm back from college. I used to have college coaches. Pushing me when you're working out by yourself like this thing actually makes me push myself. Like my twenty sprints I'm done. No this thing says mourn the tank, and then I'm draining the tanks different, so go use code. Take fifteen percent off and beat billy. Okay here. He is scores. Okay, we now welcome on recurring guest Super Agent Scott Boras. He is calling in from California Lot to talk about. Thank you for joining us as always and I guess, let's start with just a very simple question. Will there be baseball played this year certainly were. Were in the process now of. We have defined protocols. Players are going to be reporting and You know we're ready to to begin scheduled date and they're putting the final schedules of that together. In late July so we have every expectancy of playing sixty game schedule. That sounded like a yes, put it was. It was a little bit. There on the Yes. If you had to guess like, will it happen? We'll go through because we're seeing it right now. With sports where the plans there, but there's hiccups even getting to the finish line and I know baseball's had a lot of hiccups along the way, but from here to to actually starting. Do you think it's going to happen I? Think the expectancy. Is that ever going to play in an empty stadium and? And televise it. That would probably take about one hundred twenty five people to be tested to. really have a forum. Which I think is very controllable. And so the set up a safe environment and do all that I. I think it's workable. Yes, I've thought this entire season that the players have done remarkably good job at holding the line at all kind of being on the same page, and even if there are some cracks in the thoughts of you know which things we should concede on which things we. We shouldn't they haven't been made public. Were you surprised at at the job? The players in this age of social media where every player has an instagram account and a twitter account that if they wanted to, they could say hey. We should give in on this point to the owners. Are you surprised that that nobody has kind of crossed that line this summer? I think the you know again I work with. The major league players I represent, and certainly we had. A. Multi a weekly dialogues. Information exchanges of the interest level in this obviously something where it was really more than negotiation, it was really about health and safety it was about. What we're going to do to get back and an aide, our country and playing the game and playing the game at a high level of being competitive and. Be Getting in March you, know players really agreed to give away half their salaries so they can play baseball, and they knew that they were going to be good partners, and they alleviated from the owner so. A huge responsibility of four and a half billion dollars contracts, and said you know what whatever games we play. Those the only games are being asked to be paid for it so. The players responded. Ethically and they were really great partners, and yes I think they were. Actively involved at every level and the solidarity of the group was The Best I've seen in some time. Explain this to me because I kinda understand it, but I think a lot of people get confused with how baseball is run. Why is it so hard for baseball? Owners have transparency when it comes to their books, and they're. They're gaining and losing every single season, and because it felt like the fix here from the beginning was. If they just show exactly what is happening and how much money they're losing, you could probably come to a good conclusion, but instead they're not going to be transparent. And why would the players then trust them? They shouldn't. So. Why is it like that in baseball? Well, I think the. What each franchise does is somewhat of a secret secret each franchise. you have ancillary. Revenue Streams that are being created that under the rules. They do not want them to be a part of revenue sharing. Some investing in hotels and restaurants, and is Saito's all these things within the arena of. You know my attraction is my stadium. The games played there. And it my opinion, the Athlete's performance that stadium I don't think anybody's sits in those seats to watch the grass grow, so the the reality of it is that you're that attraction, and so when I have people this attraction, what can I do to get them live there longer before and after and I also know that I can partner and best. The the every owner in the game has been tremendously successful. If you've owned your franchise over ten years, you. Increase your franchise value by four times, and so you're now billionaire. You're now doing something that you may have bought it for two or three hundred and twenty years ago fifteen years ago. Will now you're looking at having equity over a billion dollars, and they're taking that money and under the the debt equity rule, they can borrow up to about forty percent of it. They borrow that money than reinvested in projects that are going to enhance their revenue stream, and the design of the rules is that I don't want the other owners sharing in my local revenue? Build, all of these start separate companies I'm going to build it outside Centerfield revenue. It's not something that goes on in the Ballpark, and so therefore I'm going to do all of these types. The other thing is I'm going to start our sense. A regional sports network something to build them I'm GONNA have ownership. So, then I have ownership of the ARA, said somebody. If I was negotiating with the true arm's length transaction, my right might be worth three hundred million so what I'll do. I'll pay my team. Seventy five million for that stranded dot, right all own the ARA said and I'll keep that money in the. Center to share with my other owners. That's his you talk about transparency. You're not really Presi with the owners themselves, because they are using the rules to keep more revenues within their specific franchise, and they don't really want to deliver you know for example A. Are As an contracts are delivered their redacted. You can't read them you. You have no idea what's going on. So when people talk about revenue sharing, you have to get a definition of revenue. Get a definition of revenue. You've got to go in and talk about for every player who plays a game and attracts an audience what revenues at audience bringing to the entirety of each franchise and to create a definition. It is brought to actually bring in that. That number. I think it's not something that in any way an owner franchise are MLB's representation wants them to do because it would expose to the audience about why these franchises are quadrupling in value over fifteen years and unreason it. They're making a lot of money. That's interesting, so the competition is primarily between the owners, not necessarily between the owners and the players. If you look at it from a very. High level big picture they have more to lose in terms of their next door, neighbor kind of coming into their market and taking money out of their park pocket as opposed to giving a bigger contract once every couple of years I think pf t, a lot of people think this negotiation is about management players. The real negotiation. My mind is about the infrastructure. Of how ownership shares its revenues. And that if you are the? Representatives of the owners and you're in the you're you're the lawyer for them? You've got a problem because you've got a lot of people saying a lot of things to you. And so you reach an agreement in March and all of a sudden. There is a totally different strategic measured as every owner says they WANNA. Play Games, and then all of a sudden Audible owners don't want to play games and others do. And so that dynamic is what takes so long to get offers. We were done in March twenty six, and an agreement for April tenth to get together and make.

He is a sports attorneys of baseball attorney, a great entrepreneurs, well I know he, he probably may or may not even see himself that way, but in order to get to the top of the game, which he has as a baseball attorney, and a great business person, you have to have a lot of knowledge skills, and most importantly desire, because it is one competitive space I will tell you that from being in it Scott Boras welcome to the playbook. Pleasure beware where you David. It's incredible. Players balk at MLB's pay cut proposal

"Missed it earlier. No negotiations today between the owners and players. Usa Today reporting the players and their agents meeting to in the Union meeting to discuss a counter proposal to send back to the owner by the way along those lines. And this was Gives you an idea of how some things are going within? Trevor Bauer has tweeted the following. Tonight this was three hours ago pitcher. Trevor Bauer hearing a lot lot capitalized. All three letters L. O. T. hearing a lot of rumors about a certain player agent meddling in MLB Affairs Major League Baseball Players Association. If true and at this point these are only rumors. I have one thing to say. Scott Boras Rep your clients however you want but keep your damn personal agenda out of union business of ood. He followed that tweet with did know. He had a twitter account. Now that I know and the included at burroughs corporation so Scott would see it very interesting To know all the behind the scenes of how this being I I think in general we know how it's being received when players are being asked to in many cases take a seventy five percent pay cut but how it is playing on one end of the pay scale versus the other end of the pay scale with the players making a million less basically getting that versus those when they hire in being asked to take dramatic pay cuts again for all the those who are bent out of shape and fed up. I I get that frustration to some extent. And we're GONNA do this early in the show tomorrow night but I also think people are are not factoring. This in the belief continues to be the season would start July the fourth. That was the proposal to begin with way back forever ago was the weekend of July. The fourth nothing that is taking place right now is blowing up their deadline. The thought is they still have up until June. The sixth. That's another ten days away. Now it's GonNa be ten painful days of of waiting and in hearing unnamed sources float stuff from each side but people act like they and I go back to the the victory for this and Oh my goodness just play. Nothing has changed from their original plan to play July the fourth so you can be frustrated that the deal's not done but nothing is changing the original plan. So maybe it's just the way I'm wired if if and then they say well. There's not going to be a season or well now. We're not GONNA have time to do this or that. That I could see like kicking and screaming and ranting and raving but to do it now just seems because you feel like being mad about something because nothing. They're doing is disrupting their original plan. Timeline that they set up to play baseball July Fourth. So until that changes okay. Let me know when you're done and we'll play baseball July. The fourth

"I really liked that segment. That was very strong, very strong. By, the way I saw this was Scott Boras is in the New York Times. This morning had a commentary. We have to bring baseball back. He makes a very compelling argument. The says it happened after the attack on Pearl. Harbor Sixty years later at HAP- post nine eleven. It happened. Time and again baseball has helped our country heal. Yes. We've lost nearly seventy thousand people to covid nineteen tragedy beyond words, a growing number of found ourselves unemployed without warning. However we face a challenge in the coming weeks and months. How do we harmonize the concerns of health experts with the unwanted effects of those public health efforts? In a recent study, one hundred seventy million people, aged, twelve or older, identified themselves as baseball fans the highest number in the past twenty five years. The first step is to return the players to spring training style camps as soon as possible. I do think it would really be damaging. If, baseball didn't have a season and went eighteen months without the sport. I think the NBA can overcome that because the NBA tends to be star personality driven and stars always attract a lot of attention. Baseball is not star driven sport. It's a habit sport you. You Get up every morning and you read the box scores and you watch the highlights it. You get into a habit in the summer and the early fall of watching baseball. When you get out of that habit, it's hard to bring people back. And I also think baseball has unique challenges. It's got a very strong players union the player's Union. Yesterday pooh-poohed any idea of coming back quote. Baseball Union chief says players haven't gotten a formal proposal about restarting baseball baseball already has the players they have the longest contracts They make the most money Some of them may feel somewhat bulletproof. What's the point? We don't like one hundred sixty two games anyway so I. You know veteran players have already spoken out about coming back. the rumors I'm hearing and a lot of us are hearing. Is that in late June? Or, early June spring training starts July. First season starts a very abridge season. I do things I I do watch them Korean, Baseball Highlights Baseball's very unique umpires could wear gloves. You Sanitize Dugouts you know already. A third of the roster sits down the bullpen separate people. You take temperatures every day. You don't have fans, and again you. Don't you know a lot of baseball? Players were gloves unlike basketball. Reassure a ball. You're sweating on each other. That is not the case in Baseball I. Think you'd have it. I think you would actually have limited fans. wouldn't have to play without any fans. You go to warm weather sites the the warm weather. Could you know stem the virus a little? Nobody's really sure on that I'm certainly not. But The read the Scott Boras column in the New York Times I think it's timely. I think it's smart. "Teammates back. Then and that's why even for fans growing up Bez Rudy for teens now fans root for players. It's the microwave generation. Greenie people will be die hard like you are with the jets and I am with the Lions were K. De Lis Oklahoma City and he goes the Golden State fans will same thing with Lebron when he goes to Miami and he goes to La but in a physical nature of just how the game is. Play is more patient. Space is more driving kick is more low management and so those are the things that older players are going to talk as the game continues to travel throughout the decades. How the players in the current decade that are playing. Have it a lot easier than they are? I'm told that we do have steven with us here again. I take about fifteen minutes away. So Stephen same thought to you. Do you believe the players. I understand the game has changed the way the game is played and all of that. But do you believe the mindset of the players today is markedly different than it was in the Arrow Michael Jordan played markedly different without question. And I'm going to say what Jalen rose didn't say. Today's players are just simply very very soft mentally literally. There are players that I haven't spoken to in years because I said they played like garbage the night before. That's it that's it or they showed up in a playoff game and disappeared last time. I checked you're playing in front of thousands of people in person. Millions of people watching on television. You're putting your exploits on display fit. Human is to witness and then when you call it like you see it. It's like you talked about their mom or their family or loved ones or something like that. It makes no sense whatsoever. So in that regard I think the the the the game has definitely definitely changed. That's not to say with everybody but certainly with a lot of guys. They're thinking about their brand thinking about how things will reverberate how it might ultimately compromise them financially and they take those things into consideration not looking at the fact that by putting your skills on display you're open to scrutiny just like your opened to praise back in the day you talk to a lot of guys. Their whole thing is that they wanted the ability to be able to confront you to go face to face man to man have a conversation with you. They might question your knowledge. They my question you know how they might question your sources. They might question a multitude of things but if you were somebody that was willing to walk into an arena particularly inside of a locker room and you may yourself acceptable to them. They might rip you a new one but after that you can shake hands and move on because you're willing to listen to what they have to say am vice versa. In today's Day and age you know you don't have that because they're insulated by just a Kabbalah people where you know people in front of them speaking for them Speaking to the media on their behalf taking positions for them an insulating their from direct one on one contact and j-league speak to this just as well as anybody because there have been times where I am sure that Jalen has had to speak to a report or two about things that were said or written about him when he was playing. Well Jalen is the kind of person that he doesn't mind talking to you. Man Man less had this conversation. There isn't a whole bunch of people in the middle of it. All that have nothing to do with it. Directly speaking on his behalf all those players of his generation that is not the case today. And that's a big problem. That's why there's certain people and they know who they are in the NBA. That I give major props to because they'll call you. Themselves got arrested so Kobe. You've got to a point where you're scared. Say something about Kobe. Greeny you know why because Kobe Pick. What the Hell did you just say today? I so you just say this. And he would address you die. Recklessly you don't get too much of that in today's game. I get that now. Jalen how much of that might be attributable to. Just how much more media there is out there today and media now means everything I mean. Practically every human being is the media now with social media and we see that way. Some players have reacted to that. There's just a lot more of it out. There Jalen quickly because I can see. Steve is shaking his head. Real quick. Thought FROM YOU J. Well you guys are old enough to remember my favorite show growing up white shadow and there was a guy. In the classroom Arnold Horseshoe used to raise his hand say who when he had to answer question in the reason why bring that part up is because having multimedia and social all of these different platforms that your family and friends your staff your managers. Your agents have access to the information that is being said about you. They become instigators in their own way. Did you see with such and such said about you? Did you see with such as such wrote about you? Did you see with such a such posted about you? So now's almost like I got to defend myself and you forget that Europe professional and it becomes a part of what you do for a living in why you make the big bucks. Yeah quickly shack was welcome back Kotter but the point remains I'm GonNa take it a step further than that. He is reality. You can talk about that but the reality is this. You have players. Listen if I'm on national. Tv I go to games. I'll go inside the locker room. You HAVE ACCESS. You got something to say it. And I've seen people that had something to say to me but since about three or four different people to say it for them and I'm standing right there. I mean you've got some dudes that are just. Let's just call what it is? This is called what it is greedy and Jalen. There are some dude. That's just soft as putty. They are intimidate. They WANNA have a conversation man to man with you to handle their business. They use others to do it for them. And I don't have any respect that I tell athletes all the time you know what I'm right here and I got the National Airwaves upstanding right in front of your face. If you got something to say to me tell me when I'll meet you. It doesn't matter but inaccessibility will not stop me from doing my job attitude got but K. We can't front money. Money is power and at some point when you start making enough. Bread is like such such. Can't say anything to me because you're not gonNA thank my quality of life. I'm not dealing with that. So jazz has to be something for that. As Stephen People are different of course people change in some approach things differently but is it not fair to say that these players here all of them the good ones and the bad here so much more about themselves than they did as recently as twenty years ago? That it's reasonable assume it's going to affect them in some way. Well yes this fair greedy but you also have to consider the source if you treat everybody with blanket Louis. Then that's a different problem. You're around the league if you're in the League you've been playing a number of years. You've been around long enough to cultivate relationships if you so choose to cultivate relationships in a fashion where you know who to speak out when you want to have your voice about because of Social Media. They feel like they have a voice. They don't need to speak to anybody they can send those. Hanger wants to speak on their behalf. They say something themselves on social media if they want to and sometimes they act like usurp the position of those in the media. Good luck with that. Let's see if you pull it off. But here's the thing a guys Jalen. We have guys who will make burner accounts to argue with people who have like eighty-one followers talking about Stephen. A Smith WHO's the loudest voice in all of sports? We're talking about guys who are defending themselves arguments against just randomly accounts. And you would think I'll be the person. That's making the eighty-one references. Not You this thing. Greenie for for for today's player. You alluded to it and I talked about it earlier. There's so much multimedia consumption think about you're looking down at your phone you're looking at facebook. You're looking at twitter. You're looking at I G. You're looking at the television you're looking at. You is so much information that has to do with your name. Your brand and and other people get a chance to now. I'm in have opinions as well at some point. You feel like I'm making this a level of money. I have this much power. I'm going to defend myself. Because it can affect my brain. It could affect my followers. It could affect my appearances my endorsements so because bigger than what's happening I got released to the score. A Game Stephen. Our Vice Greenie to the plays themselves do what you can to cultivate relationships with people that you would like to disseminate message as opposed to lie. Rely on your hanger on who nobody in the media is to trust anyway. They don't hear from you. It doesn't matter in terms of the media. You know what be fair. Be Human and outside of that. Don't give a damn about what anybody has to say if they taught just because they don't talk to you doesn't mean they get to stop you from talking about them. Move on teary-eyed. I do it every day and I'm living quite right. But also Stephen Aid that's a strip. That's a discipline because wisdom and also a light skill what. I would say to people is. Don't take everything so very personal like we're really critiquing saying public. Consumption is not personal. And we're just trying to be professional cover. I I have to let it go there as much as the last thing on earth wants to do but Stephen Show starts sex minutes Steve. Thank you my man. You're the best Jalen thank you. There's a fascinating conversation. It's one that I think we can continue to have. Meanwhile they have a lot of fascinating conversations. Coming your way on. I hate coming up next. We'll continue talking about Kevin Durant on. I take both on and off the floor Stephen a match molly and company getting ready to roll. I take follows us on. Espn back on off with a bit of encouraging breaking news the Bundesliga in Germany. The nation's largest soccer league is expected to restart this month with may fifteenth. Being the first day it's eligible no fans will be allowed. Germany's ban on massive bench goes through August thirty first but still with only nine match days left in the schedule. Bundesliga plans to finish their season on time by June thirtieth so that can only be encouraging news. All right I have one minute left. Dominique I'm told you have something you want to say to Stephen and Jalen GO I. I think that I should congratulate them on effectively getting everyone off of their lawn because I just felt like they were attacking all these players in ways that I don't think are necessarily true. I think people have changed in. The world has changed but these players are fundamentally the same as they were backing today and it's hard for me to listen to them say that current athletes are a lot more sensitive. We're midway through a tin part documentary. Which main threat is how sensitive Michael Jordan was? He was talking trash to writers. In the same way that draymond green talks trash to Charles Barkley and talks trash to everyone else like it just feels like the medium is different but the players. They want it just as much as the players did back then. They're trying just as hard as players back there. Just as sensitive as the players were back. Then they're just doing it a little different so it just to me. It's frustrating to not have somebody there to represent the younger.

"Led to loss jobs. Increased stresses of every type and a diminishing of the social tapestry that binds it enhances our lives. After many weeks of following safer. At Home Protocols People are understandably restless and looking for an outlet. It is time again for baseball to serve at sums up the way I think so many of us feel so well and so here is got some Scott. I really appreciate you getting up early and doing this. What role do you see baseball and sports in general playing in lifting the country up through this unprecedented time? Well baseball has a history of doing this. Mike and and I think a lot of it is that we are. We're asking a lot of our society to isolate or asking him to stand home and I think giving them something that is a unifying dynamic Normalcy baseball What's done in the past? Y You know the politicians of our day president trump and and COAMO and and Chicago you know. Many many politicians are now seeking I think that aspect of normalcy that we want our American culture and yet we have to do it in a very safe manner and do it in a way that We know more about this virus The medical professionals have identified. This and I think baseball players being the age. They are being a In first class physical condition And also having a pre really standing prolong medical histories with the with their teams The the fact that they don't have the underlying medical conditions the the risk of mortality is a lot less with this employment group and it really allows them. I think Certainly base And now a a real understanding from the medical experts that we can certainly get start to get players ready and get them get them trained and ready and back in spring training. Well that brings us to a really important point and I would say that be should read the bed because he Scott gets very deeply into the history of how baseball has played this role in the past including President Roosevelt during World War. Two asking baseball's owners to bring baseball back because he felt important for the country. So it's very much worth reading but let's get to what you were just talking about. What conversations have you had with players about their desire to play and how they balance that with their concerns about safety well obviously the the players I represent you know. We've we've had conversations with low over one hundred major leaguers and you know the athletes are their their you know we have given them a lot of information from the many of the physicians that treat them The epidemiologist for the the data's is much more profound and exhibited today and I think one thing we know is said. This virus has a clear impact. It's not going away. It has a dramatic impact on those of of higher ages and people with underlying better conditions. And fortunately the the athletes of Baseball Those parameters carry much much less risk with this. We've looked at the hospital. Relation rates of people in this age group without underlying condition. We've looked at the Mortality Rates both in where they could play in spring training in those states You know one of the epidemiologists from UC Berkeley pointed out about being locally observant an appropriate as to how you wear and how you treat this virus and certainly those in Florida and Arizona and frankly and in many states now the mortality rates are much lower than they are in the northeast. So we've when you look at that and you look at the risk. They're related to the players. I think they're much more comfortable now. With with the returning also the treatments that are available now or more defined all therapeutics and And also very hopeful about vaccines in the future of the few players that I've had on here that we've talked to have also expressed to me some hesitancy regarding the quarantining itself so if baseball is going to come back as soon as possible. It seems likely the players are going to be for lack of a better word kind of separated from the rest of society for a reasonable significant period of time including possibly their families. What hesitation have you heard from your players regarding that? I think we have to set up models as we do in in medicine. And that is you. You can certainly had to spring training and I think players that I've certainly I represent representative all said they're willing to to look at this for thirty days and and be isolated and and and phase in spring training with say pitchers and catchers. I I think one of the things we have to consider Mike those that we we need to do this We have a little longer spring training because the players have been isolated this very unique setting that they've been in the last fifty days and we need a little more conditioning time with more time to before we get to the skill part of the game that we have in the past so it's a very different process but but I I think one thing that's clear is that we've we have involved the the people they're going to have doctors they're they're gonNA have their trainers there The isolation aspect. I think the players are willing to do to really take every precaution as we test before they go test when they arrive and really create an environment that we can after a thirty day or so period. Let everyone know that this. This group is healthy. We also have an international community that we have to do well in advance because we have to bring them here and get a look at where they're out that may be additional time. We have to have isolation spaces for those who test positive and we also have to have You know I think a period of time for those to integrate back in so it's It's going to take a little bit more time. I think the norm to to bring baseball back and get players ready and then I think during that time we can decide with the schedule as one thing. We're learning about this. The more time we spend studying the virus and collecting the medical information. The more efficient of a schedule. I think we can have and and we also have the month of October that we can use regular season now by the players agreement so I think we can put together something that can can really help America. I'd Scotland at a time here. I very much appreciate your doing this again. I recommend reading the OP. Ed in the Times Bring Baseball back a lot of interesting thoughts in there and let's stay in touch with WHO work our way closer to this. I'd like to hear your perspective. Thanks a million for doing this. Thank you Scott Boras. Again Major.

"Of that league and everything but college football. So they'll play those five. And I would think Notre Dame would be able to attract a number of other games that they opened the season as as we all know against navy in Dublin highly. Suspicious net game will take place in Ireland So I think Notre Dame can can fill out those other spots and I think what you're hearing when conference commissioners indicate that we could play a conference only schedule. What they're really saying. We don't think we'll start. September fifth or Notre Dame's case a week earlier. Okay interesting what? You haven't had a chance in this conversation yet this morning as you hear these conversations about some schools some conferences being ready before others. What do you think green clearly? You see the economics really playing out in this whole situation here. I mean we're talking about her. Say in the last hour herm Edwards. Say he doesn't see a possibility of students on campus how the plants could allow out there on flips out at the economics that plays into these called programs and how out of funds. Alati programs that is looming large in this situation. So we have a situation where you know certain certain section of the country reopening it and certain Certain such aren't and you're GonNa see that's the advantage you know. If somebody's schools are able to play. They could share revenue with the other schools within their conference. Oh money is looming large furry margin a situation dominic. I'm trying to remove any of my biopsies in this as we discuss it because you and I think standing a lot of the same places as far as the notion of amateurism but if you just step back and look at it. I think that this is going to have to change people's viewpoint on fundamentally because no one can possibly debate now. That money is driving everything we can we can. We can have pretended as much as we wanted to up until this but I think objectively speaking. No one can pretend that this is about anything more significantly than it is about money as we watch the way this is being handled the irony of potentially going into a season where there won't be any students on campus but these players may have to come to campus to play these games they that kind of qualifies them as essential employees. The irony of that also tried to say that they are not employees. They do not have jobs is quite rich so I understand where you're coming from and understand where Paul said. He doubts that will play. If the students aren't on campus. But I could understand school saying that. This actually makes the.

"That right. You're in. I just read the ball better off the bat from right field and left Field Marshall Cubs Indians game seven. I mean the entire game like it's a very rewatch ballgame. It's it's basically like What frozen is two three year olds? That game is to me like I can. Just I could watch that every day if you put that on the TV I'll watch it But like moment Like the Dee Gordon Homer After Jose Fernandez passed out said that one Not that it's like. Oh Man I love that moment. It's just I'd say it probably drew the strongest response for me Yeah I'd probably say those two fraud another honorable mention sorry Jay Felix Hernandez his final start. Seattle was incredible. I was I was there which is why I'm bias but I wanted to bring it up just because it's the tip of the cap the mirrors fan base who have supported that dude from day one and it's a tip of the Cap Felix because he took the time after the gain to embrace. I mean not literally but to the extent that was possible every single fan. That was there in some form or fashion. You know a wave a picture and embrace it was just. It was very emotional when it was really cool because you understand the gravity of that situation for a guy who never got what ultimately wanted in that city which is what we're all after when we play this game but to feel the affection and the love shared between him and that city was was an amazing baseball. Jared what is your favorite pink floyd album richer here rank these shortstops for the next five years. Bischette Torres Totti's junior this actually question for the draft. I'm going to go to retain one three two one so we you guys both have taty has one. And then jared has yet to Torres Three Dau. No I have Jared went torres tongues. Bishop yes got it okay. I went Bush. Excuse me I went torres or excuse me touchiest Tour Okay. So for both. This is a good question. Is this the Scott Boras episode? Yes yes hopefully by now. Who would be the worst? Starting nine host to be quarantined with Dallas. He's he's easily Jerry deadly Dallas. He's fucking angry all the time. The shortest fuse of anyone ever known. He's up yelling playing video games when you're trying to be sleeping He's fucking GONNA eat all of your snacks so like say goodbye or whatever you fuck in risk your life to go get the grocery store. Because he's just gonNA eat that I would probably be the best because I just sit there. Are there have been days during this quarantine while just sit on my couch and like scroll my phone and like the TV isn't even like I. I'm basically a ghost like I could like if if there were any alarms in my apartment that went off based on sound or movement. They wouldn't go off with me. You want entertainment. You won't feel good vibes. You come hang out with your boy. We're going to get through this all through this. Now you'll you'll you jump out a window into like a pool of gasoline like wall covered in and flames. So you'RE GONNA have to learn how to like walk and talk all over. Get you're stuck a room with jared for three months. It'll be like your own place if you like being. If you like being alone come hang out with me. Dallas last question for people who struggle with overthinking in baseball. Can you tell us how you got through the last few innings in your perfect game and specifically when you fell three behind fell behind three to one to the final batter? What was your mindset? Like how were you able to make remain calm? Jaffa tape count was never three one. So sorry about that I can't was thrilling. But there's a great story behind that our Honestly like like just to be to be serious for a minute. I have never forgotten and have always appreciated where I've been how I've gotten there and in the world of baseball the game of baseball and specifically that day there was no different And if I'm look the ninth inning. There's a first time I'd ever seen the ninth inning ballgame so my ultimate goal was to just not fuck this up. That's what I kept telling myself. Baby this don't baby this but we're trying to win the ballgame. Whatever you're going to reap individually aside from this is what it is. You're really not in control of that as much as you want to be. So just don't fuck this up and that's kind of my mindset For for life for the most part you're going to get in your own way at times to the best of your ability. Just try not to fuck this up. File thoughts I'll be honest going into Corentin and the League being shut down and all this I was like fuck. How are you gonNa find things to talk about for a baseball? Podcast no baseball. I don't think there's ever been a podcast that I've gone into dreading it being like. This is GonNa suck like this is this is GonNa be a chore. This is going to be a bill. I feel like every time that we've done starting nine during quarantine We've gone over two hours which is fucking insane and we could. We could in theory do more because we have such a huge backlog of interviews that we haven't yet from Either ones that we've done over zoom since we've Been in quarantine. And then we have a bunch from the spikes up tour Zona and were continuing to add to that. That log of Of Our interviews also. I think it's cool. That people are still listening. Because I know I've I've talked to a few people that are like hey man sorry. I haven't been listening because I usually list. I commute or I usually listen at work in I I understand like that's part of your routine and But for the people that have carved out time to still listen to the podcast or listen to the interviews or whatever we appreciate you You make an a new routine as we're all sort of adjusting to this new fouled life. But you know what jared I'm not gonNA take it easy on you sons of bitches that haven't been getting her hacks in the cage just because we got a little drizzle outside right now doesn't mean you can't stay sharp doesn't mean that we don't get some tea working doesn't mean that we can't get our chattel.

"I'm a cold brew guy. Are you sweetened or unsweetened no? I'm just give it to me raw unload. Okay all right let it. I like to do it a little. Bit Sweetened Yeah. I had I had the life actually bring up a death wish coffee after I finished truly at nine. Am this morning. I HAVE. I haven't I haven't tried the the unsweetened yet I've done like the the sweeten cold brew very good taste for the for the bean man and you do like once you start tasting different flavors and different roasts. You really do start to develop a taste you know you. Start to develop a pallet for it and you learn to appreciate shit this just kind of thrown together and stuff that has you know some love behind it. Yeah have you have you seen any of this the MLB players that plan that will be the show? Jeff McNeil Last was it last week. Yeah he's the mets representative in this. Mlb The show league But Fernando tortillas junior yes playing as himself bill going deep ellum months out three times as himself. That's pretty bad ass tasty. There's nothing more you want. I'm telling you right now. There's three things you're thinking about. Maybe four but I think three things. Initially when you're thinking about becoming a big league ball player you want your own baseball card. You WANNA be in a video game and for me I wanted. I wanted poster like I wanted to be on a poster to like those. Were the like you've made it? This is how you know. You're a big league right. Someone's collecting your baseball card. Ever after the perfect game was there a Dallas Breeden Cardboard cutout like. I feel like there's probably one Honda dealership somewhere. There's yeah I'm I'm huge in the Republican district But I don't know that there's anything stateside. Here that celebrates me the way I feel like board cut out SIP of cardboard cut up. Put it like this. The reason you say cardboard cutout is because that is like. That's the Puck Pinnacle. Yeah like cardboard cutouts even bigger than billboard. I mean that's just how I like. I've got a life size. I'm staring at it. Nolan Ryan sponsored by a Beer Company and I had this cardboard cutout I got this cardboard cutout from the corner liquor store in my old neighborhood. This isn't original. He's had he had this thing as a real fucking cardboard cutout prop like the day that it got sent to him to put up in. Promo his beer stack. Yeah thirty years later. He still had it standing up same spot and I. I don't know six or seven years ago I went back and and got it and had it framed and put up and everything. And it's yeah. It's seen that I've seen that. Yeah Yeah your boy cut out Roy. You've you are here. Yeah I've checked. I've checked some boxes but until I checked the cardboard cutout box. I don't know I I I did the You know when they do like those the the big faces the hold up in like the crowds at College Basketball Games. Yeah I've been one of those there you go but that's not enough. I need full body. Cardboard cutout yeah. Yeah Life Size. I mean it wouldn't take much cooler full to get that full body cut out of the rocky. You could probably use you probably use a shoebox. Now that I think about it. The most confusing thing I've ever encountered in my entire life is Dallas's just persistence with the with the short jokes when you might be an inch and a half taller than me. What's what what's the operative word there? What the caller is the operative word speech? You'd say we we lock them up. I thought he froze but it was. Just it's just a complete actual walk up through through jared twelve six twelve six vocab. We're going back to the players league thing I watched a little bit of Jeff McNeil incredibly any good..

"Back to story all for so one. Sixty five is the Scott. Boris episode it is. It's an episode that I've been looking forward to for a long time. Choke Dallas Holy Shit doing a apparently. I'm drinking truly at nine. Am instead of all my God what what just happened. Well I've got what it what it Asshole I had. I thought I reached in and grabbed a death. Wish coffee I thought I reach those goals. Bruce Yeah apparently not Z. Grabbed a truly. Apparently I grabbed a mango limited. Truly instead of the the death wish coffee I mean I get a lot of flack on this podcast or not. Being able to read feel like it's more spread out than it ever has been looked. This was a mere oversight. All right I was just trying to grab a refreshment on the way. If you just read the can there later literally stacked next to each other on the on the show they they labeled the same thing or they're both black cans so it's you prefer for a pictures. They're both cans with white writing and it's been going the same or is it. Yeah I believe it's Helvetica Font size eight. It's also. The font is the Samba other. The words World News like there's a lot of the same words on these cans calories total. Yeah so when you start there really. I'm right I think it's pretty easy to see confused. Yeah no doubt no doubt you could make the mistake. There have you ever. What's is I feel like it's coming out of my nose right. What is what's the worst. What's the worst flavor to anticipate? And just not be what you thought it was GONNA be. You know what I mean. Yeah so happen to us. What just would I just did to myself? I would say I'd say when you when you think that you reached for your Paul and springs bottle of Arnold Palmer. But it's really last night's dip spit. Oh yeah yeah no that. That's always bad news. Yeah but I've been there many times. Yeah well all the the Dude Junior College Jerry. I we get in all my God. We get into the because we had to drive in the morning. Probably like this is what I live with my catcher shutout. Joe Mercer he he drives like five in the morning so we can get to weights and in the Cup holder was like a McDonald's cup with a Straw right and we had been stopping at McDonald's. Whatever on the wit so it was just like natural for me to think. Yeah this is one of the juices that we got or whatever but it's in the morning so I'm not even thinking and Oh yeah that wasn't a fresh nojeim now now but there was plenty of pulp. It's definitely it's definitely one of the worst experiences in it's it's basically unavoidable if you're in the game like you're like you're GonNa get it It's going to happen to you. It's just a matter of when we do have Scott. Boris on the PODCASTS. Yeah I've been Like anyone that's somewhat friends with that either had or has Scott Board Boris as an agent. I'm like they do the pod like Lotta people have been like. Yeah Fuck Yeah. I think he do. Pot like yeah. No you're you're you know. There's no way I'd I didn't think that he was a guy he did. He told shake I know. I know like the then like you'll see in the interview. It's borderline impossible to get into Boris Corp to get inside those walls so it's like all right. Well when is the guy is probably always on his phone with clients with teams? I mean there's there's probably no end to his workday sound like when is he going to sit down and do like? There's no offseason for an agent like your during the season you're busy you've got clients. There's there's all kinds of shit going on the off season and you're even more busy. Your off season is you're on season so you're saying you're saying took a global pandemic a global stay at home stay inside order for us to kneel downs. That's not actually what I'm saying. You got a good sense though right the minute and before we even really before we started recording. And we're just kind of getting into the getting into the conference room and all that Jazz You get a good sense of how personable. He is If you know him and how how he can go from being that. I don't WANNA say callous. Because he's not a callous individual but how he can go from being someone that are standoffish intimidated by two. Oh Wow we just jumped like five degrees of friendship into second like. That's that's amazing. Can he can do that for you. Yeah it was. I think he. I don't know what my perception was before the interview but I do know that what I came away from the interview with did not align with the pre interview perception. No absolutely not. Let me ask you what were you. Because you've heard I told you about him. I've talked to you about him. But even before that what was your perception. What were you thinking? What was something that you like? Oh I'M GONNA find out if this is true like this is an opinion that I've had of him. I'm not walking away from this interview without figuring out for myself. If this is indeed the case what was that I think what I I thought I was that you know you. You were meeting with him but he he did. He never got the point where he was your agent I've never met him in passing at all. I've I saw him a Christian Yelich. Just charity softball. Game didn't get the chance to talk to them. Didn't get the champs introduce myself Scott Boris to me is a figure in baseball. That is kind I like. I mean he's eat. Let's face it. He's the he's the king of kings comes to baseball agents out there so I don't know if there's an ego there where he comes in being like I know that I'm this this monster of the industry in I don't care to even know your name. But he did. He knew my name he used it and and I think that that sort of bridges the gap between like all right. This is kind of like you know we can. We can have some fun with this versus like. Oh this means business and we we can't. We can't have fun with this and we were able to. That's part of the interaction. And that's what I mean by. If you know him right he's a completely different animal. He's just a completely different beast. My very first interaction with Scott was he was a guest speaker at the University of Pacific. Had like had a dinner like a first pitch hot stove type dinner and he was a guest speaker there and you know we spoke in knew who I was whatever but you just got a real good sense of how he went about business in terms of being in the public eye and interacting with people engaging people because they all have the same kind of questions that we had we just got to ask them out being the fifty million hundred million two hundred million two hundred like he's that guy every time each one of those contracts aside from the era doubled piece was represented by a different ballplayer. But the guy who got that bred the guy behind breading up those chicken titties was the same chef in the kitchen every single time. And that's Scotty B. That's SB as you heard him say jer. But I knew that I knew that it wasn't even a question partly because I had already talked to him about it when he was with The Oakland A.'s top draft pick in Oakland last year. And I got to talk a little bit about that But you know we had lined that up. Yes absolutely But having the interaction with him that courtship between he and I I was able to explain to him why I decided to not go with him and decided to not utilize his services and it was out of the ultimate respect for me for the game and for the business and how maybe business should be handled. I knew that I was not going to be fetching another contract. I knew what my arm situation was. So there was no need for me to go and attain new representation for what to have somebody else sell a broken bill of goods to another team like. That's not that's just not how I was going to roll. That's not what I was going to do to the Kurt Representation. I had and that's not what I was going to do to Scott. Boris and Boards Corp. That's that's not who I am. And being able to share that with him later down the road being able to explain that to him and have him fully understand and respect that moving forward and him convey that to me that like talk about memories. That's something we're not going to be able to Google. That's not something I'll be able to log onto the web and recall but that's a baseball memory for me. That lasts a lifetime and I was really excited because I know how important it was for you to be able to sit down and ask he in him these types of questions and get that kind of insight so it was. It was a really cool day for me to just to kind of watch that all happen. Yeah yeah no I I Very rarely do I get like dry. Feel like the juices pumping BA flight. Hours before an interview. Usually I mean we'll we'll roll up to a fucking camp and we'd through the car wash. We'll have guys come in off the boss. Big names guys that like. I'm excited to talk to just. We just released a Chris Paddock interview. I think last week that was one that I was really really looking forward to. But you get to a certain point in your career where I it's it's. It's almost the same thing where it's like if I were to sit down with Nomar like someone that's a big deal when you're a kid that they're always going to be a big deal to you someone that's a big deal now and you're an adult. It's whatever like let's chop it up like you know. Some of these guys are fucking younger than me. Now but Scott Boris. That's a guy. He was a big deal. Allows a kid too. I talk and you know back when I was in high school. That's that's essentially. When I was introduced to Scott Boris in and I brought it up in the interview. How they're so growing up and kind of what got me into blogging. There's this website called Boston dirt dogs and it was a red sox fan blog whatever and anytime at Scott. Boris would come up the picture that they would use is Scott Boris and it was a it was a it was a drawing of him. It was all red and he had the devil horns and all this stuff and they were like the bumper stickers. Scott Boras ruined baseball. Like all this like I want to get. These payers played payers pay players paid. And who helps do that better than anyone? It's Scott Boris but that that shows the growth of the baseball fan the maturity of a baseball fan. When it's like you come into it and you're like Oh Scott Porras's the devil. He wants all these players to get so much money and you know the teams have to shell out all this money if they wanNA keep them in. That means all your favorite players are going to go to different teams and then you grow up and you're like all these players deserve the fook and money like their Scott. Boris is helping them get their piece of the pie so that the owners aren't just profiting buckets and buckets of money. Off The efforts of these players who are being fairly compensated. So it's it's almost like I've you know you don't understand that as a fan though when you're a little kid you see the guy who represents the reason your favorite players now somebody else's favorite player because he's on their favorite team and not yours. Roll up your earn money. You Pay Uncle Sam. You realize who Uncle Sam starts to represent your yell On a need that dude to get all of the Cheese Ville his barrel completely with iron and let celebrate him but something. Something that hasn't changed for me. Is that sinking feeling in your stomach when a guy is represented by Boris. Go come on. Yeah there's that label the label of drafty the label of a free agency. Like the or we're going to arbitration. He's a Boris. We're going to arbitration. Yeah like free agency we can. We can pass this sheet of paper across the desk and we can show them the number and that's great. We'll see you in court. Yeah like that's just that's going to happen..

How MLB can get creative, experiment and make the most of a delayed season

"Well today should have been a really big day I'll build up day for the sport of major league baseball's tomorrow of course was the opening day we're gonna play last year's opening day four o'clock tomorrow they'll be happy to kind of get our fix I know I'm going to need it I know Major League Baseball and different platforms thrown out a bunch of classic games to more people to watch it's not gonna be the same tomorrow's supposed to be opening day we don't know when this is going to happen but today here's a way to get today and what about Corey Seidman NBC sports Philadelphia second here to talk about all the stuff today there was a whole bunch Jeff Passan ESPN Ken Rosenthal of the athletic and Jayson stark and everyone was kind of writing about Hey baseball trying to get together down figure out what this could look like when it does return Scott Boras that idea for the World Series are Christmas twice weekly double headers and all star week start kind of starting the season with the all star game there's a lot of ideas being floated in the I I think you just have a vote you probably would vote in like the most popular players like Bryce Harper yeah they did a fan vote right now who to get in Mike trout Bryce Harper I think those guys that like have a random good year who don't vote for them because you don't know what's going to happen you don't have any sex or anything like that well that's a good thing let's let's bring a Corey Seidman NBC sports Philadelphia joining us right now what's up Corey not much your I think I was outside for eleven seconds to learn so you know it's just another day another day in quarantine yeah you know what's happened to me Korean I think part of it is the the rhythm of the sports calendar like the Sixers play Tuesday all of you know that Phillies have this spring training in this day I just have no idea what day it is like I know the weekends the weekend as I'm not doing a show but like I I don't even know what day it is like Tuesday Wednesday it's all the same right now yeah I totally hear you I feel the same way in like every article I've written recently I've written the wrong there's always you know if I'm saying you know this players at this on Monday or this guy's like I always have a drunkard we in that way still the dog days of the baseball season because quite frankly that's how it gets during a hundred sixty two game schedule for me as well yeah well we're not having one of those this year that that that is that's for certain we don't know what the season will look like hopefully will be played the court today there a lot ideas being thrown out by people that know people in baseball weather be Jeff Passan or Ken Rosenthal Jayson stark ideas what this could look like don't know throw a couple at you and you tell me what you thought when you saw or as I say it what's your thought on it seems like they want to play as many games as possible when we're allowed to to make it a representative season you know if we start in July we're looking at basically half a year but today I I saw a passive wrote that players are open to the idea of of maybe up to once a week or twice a week having double headers what do you think about that I think it's going to be a necessity because to me it feels like the magic numbers like a hundred twenty issue games if you can get that many in the season I don't think they sold one any fewer than a hundred and when you start to think about how long how deep you're going to get into the calendar let's say you know even if you were the most optimistically instead of the regular season could potentially start on June first okay if it's a hundred twenty greens into regular season if it starts on June first even if you have no off days that would end in works like for suckers out in October right so then you're talking about the beginning of the playoffs the plastic about what three three and a half weeks and months so the very safest estimate would have that season ended in early November so I just feel like you're gonna have to have double headers in some form it would be irresponsible I think baseball to having three forties a week once a week all year I would to AT and record the thing is if the players are okay with that that then I and then I'm on board I would think they wouldn't be because of that what it would do to them but the one part about is if we if we go down that route if they're gonna do multiple double headers a week to make it a more representative season they have to adjust the rosters that they have to help these teams especially with pitchers like I already I'm projecting there's going to be more injuries because picture to try to ramp back up and it's it's gonna be a whole thing like the whole the whole set up of the twenty six man roster the limits on pictures that they'd have to ease that or change that well I think it's going to be an expanded roster when the season first begins and it might be an expanded roster all the way through you know you could see roster as the twenty eight guys thirty die instead of twenty six because think about what the issues are brought up right starting pitchers are not going to be going deep into games especially the first month or so of this regular season like it's gonna be quite a while until the team feels comfortable turning loose their east coast seven innings because you got to be thinking about the long term I mean there are some benefits to that as well because you know the shortened season I'm thinking of a guy like Aaron always been a two hundred twelve innings and two hundred two innings the last few years now what he has no choice but to have a a lesser workload in twenty twenty so perhaps that helps him out long term but I I'm with you on the pitching injuries it's a major concern that's why I don't think it should be double headers multiple days a week because then thank you probably first possibly appearing in both games of a doubleheader you know you just open up all these other cans of worms Corey Seidman NBC sports Philadelphia joining us here as we discuss you know what's going on with all these talks in baseball how they could put this season together whatever starts a Corey Tesco Boris and I'm not surprised he would he become a radical idea he doesn't mind the idea of this thing lasting till next Christmas and having neutral site games the playoffs Corey I am okay with that to start the season without fans just so they could start the season I'll I'll watch and listen to baseball even if I can't go to baseball games but the idea on the back and if it lasts really long already the thought is well I will play in neutral sites where it's warmer so like Philadelphia New York Boston you really can't play baseball there November December but you can and Miami in Arizona what not I feel like the post season without the fans because of the weather and and the date that wouldn't feel right I don't think baseball plays right in a neutral site what do you think no I don't I wouldn't like that either I mean it would result in a winning team the fans what no fan would have gotten to experience that that clinching World Series game which is you know that's that's a tough pill to swallow I mean I don't think this is gonna last Christmas that's you know fun content from sky force but I think there are other issues at play to like Christmas is one of the biggest things that you're looking at the calendar they're still NFL regular season going on it's beach season baseball would really be competing for eyeballs at the World Series repeat right around that time I don't think it's going to get that far it's a great you know you can't have an outdoor sport that you know go that long when you're still making some cold weather cities like baseball it's not like football it's not designed to be played in thirty degree weather we see that in April every year when you know you have guys wearing long sleeves and your skin grip the ball in those early season

"We were told here's quarterback class. Not that great. Because of the quarterbacks that we saw last year Mayfield. Darnold, Allen rose in Jackson. There was a lot more excitement last year with the quarterbacks this year, though for all this talk of the quarterbacks aren't that great? The quarterbacks always dominate the conversation that draft they do Murray goes one who could have predicted that five months ago. And Scott Boras told y'all all he's always going to play baseball baseball baseball. And the next thing, you know, Murray who got picked in the top ten of the baseball draft ends up going number one in the football draft. Then you have the giant surprising everyone taking January Jones at number six and a giant Vince every yesterday because I've been critical of the organization and been critical. Dave, Gettleman even. Before the draft. And they said well the rest of the draft wasn't terrible. And I explained it to them. That's nice player. Not a pass rusher though. The Andre Baker nice player cornerback out of Georgia. They got the edge rusher from Old Dominion. We'll see what he will do Julian love from Notre Dame. Okay. You could tell me they had a a nice draft.

"Here's Steve bedroom. Bryce Harper drama continues. ESPN says the Phillies remain confident fell walkup Harper with a long term contract within twenty four to forty eight hours. But the dodgers reentered the picture yesterday meeting with Harper and his agent Scott Boras in Las Vegas. It was good. It was good just kind of trying to get to know each other. And. A think in the spirit of us as a dodgers betting a certain process makes sense. And for those guys do their due diligence as well the dodgers represented by manager. Dave roberts. Orange Bowl: Kyler Murray delivers big numbers, receives big hits

"Who really had quite line score. And again, we don't go to deepen the. The numbers here. But in a bowl game against Alabama. Cuyler Murray was able to pass for three hundred and eight yards rushed for one hundred nine yards. And that was good for a whole fistful of touchdowns. Well Tyler Murray is also somebody that is rumored to be playing baseball for the Oakland Athletics. Murray's baseball agent. Scott Boras repeatedly has said that Murray is going to honor his deal with the athletics. He received a four point six million dollars signing bonus to become a center fielder. But he says that you know, he's leaving the door open to go to the NFL quotas never bad to have options. So maybe they'll there will be a time for the Heisman Trophy winner to actually play football again. Or maybe you've seen him take. His last meaningful snap in the game of football time will tell on that one. And speaking of quarterback play could we have a shared MVP in this year's NFL. Discussion of the happenings at the MLB Winter Meetings 2018

"Yankees. Mets Marlins deal that would involve JT real Muto Noah Syndergaard Miguel and do Har. I'm Ed Rosario. Couple other moving parts real Muto into any with the Mets. The. Yenkey would end up with Noah, Syndergaard, not sure really what the Marlins would get besides Ahmed Rosario would have to be a lot more than just that for them to give up JT real Muto. I mean, no question about that. So it just comes down to just what's fun going on there at the winter meetings. We're going to check in in Las Vegas momentarily. But I'll tell you what it's just always fun to see the rumors, and how about this one, Lance Lynn. Gets three year thirty million dollar contract. I must be getting old here, but the amount of money that teams throw around on mediocre players is stunning yesterday. We talked about Andrew mccutchen whose past his prime getting fifteen million dollars a year. Now, you're talking about Lance Lynn getting ten million dollars a year. Now, it's a step back from the twelve million you made last year, but still he's not crying poverty making ten million dollars a year as an average pitcher coming off a season with a four point seven seventy IRA. Lance Lind's were ten million dollars. You can't be serious. Producer Shawn Watson Makia. Lance Lynn's a ten million dollar player in today. You're getting from the Yankees this year. Eight and a half is it. So then yeah is worth ten million dollars. Yeah. Is he worth more than of course, a bath is thirty eight and going on thirty nine these finished. But still had a better here than Lance Lynn. Right better longer. That's true. That's true. I wouldn't give in ten million a year if that's the case. So here's what I don't understand yet. What's the market going to be like for the closers like these relievers? Right. What's the market gonna be like for them? I think the market has gotten bigger and bigger for relief pitchers. And I just think that honestly like when you're the Andrew Miller's of the out of venos- or the kimbrough's or the David Robertson's Zach Britain's of the world, what's the money to be like for those guys because are they more valuable than a Lance Lynn in today's baseball. Right. Yeah. Right. I mean, are they more valuable? They are right. Well, let's in is reliever. Well, don't forget that. Well, but he's more starter. Right. He can do both. He could eat. Yeah. But I think they're bringing them in to be a starter. I would think. I think that's why you're gonna pay Lance Lynn ten million bucks. It's not my money though. That's the funny thing it's not my money. But it's just always like unfathomable to me when I look at the amount of money. Some of these players end up getting it just really incredible. I don't think we'd have the law jam like we had last year. You remember Lance Lynn didn't sign too late. He was one of those guys that was taking part of that crazy camp in Bradenton Florida the free agent training camp. Remember the spring training for the the free agent players. So he at least has signed early it. Seems that look I think what's interesting is when you talk about Manny Machado, and you talk about a Bryce Harper. You could eliminate ninety five percent of the teams in baseball from being involved in that. Right. I you know, that there's going to be ninety ninety five percent teams that are not gonna get involved. And those guys are already shopping in that bargain-basement been they're the ones that look at a Lance Lynn and say, hey, maybe there's good value there. That's the market for those guys. So I think the question's going to be for the big market teams. That may be interested in a Bryce Harper. Manny Machado when are they going to put some pressure on? The Scott Boris is the world saying, look, we gotta get something done here. Because in the meantime, other guys are signing elsewhere, right? If you're looking for an outfielder and Bryce Harper's who you've looked at and you end up not getting Bryce Harper who's going to be. Left on the market in two or three weeks, depending on when he's going to decide to sign at some point. You say, okay, we got a pivot away because we haven't gotten any word. Do we sign the Andrew McCarthy since the Phillies, frankly, did they make a statement by signing mccutchen? Which is. Yeah, we'll go and get ourselves the infielder Machado. But maybe we're not going to go after Bryce Harper. Like a lot of people say we are. Or are we going to now go out and spend another ridiculous amount of money and get Bryce Harper. We've brought in two new outfielders into the mix with Andrew mccutchen. And Bryce Harper. That's the interesting thing to me when you look at what's happening because I think teams don't wanna be used against each other. Right. Nobody wants to be put into a bidding war, and that's exactly where Scott Boras makes his money. He wants a bidding war for Bryce Harper. He wants a bidding war first clients. And the fact is a bidding war, though takes time. And if you have a bidding war teams going to get involved, and because the money is going to be so incredibly large. Then if you're willing to go thirty to thirty five million dollars a year on Bryce Harper, and you don't end up getting him. And then you have to pivot quickly away the warriors what's still left on the market by the time. I'm eliminated from the Harper competition or what's going to be left. If I'm looking for a shortstop slash third baseman wants Manny Machado signs, and I'm left holding the bag and the other names out. There are Freddie Galvez, and I'll Sita's Escobar and a Denny hetch of Iria guys who can't hit a lick. So I think that's what teams have to weigh here. Sean in terms of what exactly they need to do and getting involved with the big names, and how long are they willing to sit there and kind of have that money sitting there in escrow because they don't want obviously go out and start using it on other players to Bryce Harper makes a decision. They might be like crap we spent too much. We can't make that deal for Bryce Harper. Well, I mean, that's a possibility. But I don't see that happening. Because teams have an idea about Bryce Harper. They're talking to Scott Boris. They know if he has interest, so they're going to save the money until they hear his final answer. Yeah. But then they may hurt themselves. That is true. That's the problem. They may be hurting themselves. See I think the Phillies as much as I think they overpaid for Andrew mccutchen. Right. I think what the Phillies are looking at is. Look we need to outfielders. We're going to be in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes. Because we have a lot of money to spend. We got fifteen million dollars on the books this year and outfield with Andrew mccutchen. We can still fit another thirty thirty five million with Bryce Harper. Maybe another thirty million with Manny Machado, whatever it is. And maybe they can go out and make a big splash with everything. Right. That's the team that I think is going to be intriguing because if there's any team that potentially will go out and we'll get not just Harper, but also Machado. It's the Phillies. There's no other team in baseball right now, you can see spending money to bring in both Harper Machado and adding sixty to seventy million dollars payroll. The only team that can absorb that type of hit is affiliate because their payroll number isn't very high for next year. That would be fascinating, Sean. If the Philadelphia Phillies come out of the winter meetings or come out of the two thousand eighteen year, and they have signed Harper and Machado. And by the way, it's not crazy to think they could do it. Seriously. Heard that too. It is crazy that signing both of those guys. Why not? Why not six million? In two players for the next ten years. Yeah. They got the money. Got the money crazy. Seriously. They got the money to do it. Why not love to see it happen? I seven hundred million. Yeah, they're not doing that. I don't remember the Phillies are about to start their own regional networks soon to okay. They have a terrible TV deal. They're about to start their own regional network. To me be interesting to find out what that means financially. Because I thought there a big market team people show up at citizens Bank park, the Phillies, you know, are they make money. The question is if they get their regional network, they can be making a heck of a lot more money. If that's the case. Yes. Seven hundred million dollars over the next ten years from shadow and Harper, and you know, how packed the stands. No question about it for ten years going with those two big names. All right. So what did Tony LaRussa say backing up Harold Baines for a hall of fame induction? We'll tell you next going deep. Dan, Schwartzman, NBC sports radio in the NBC sports radio mobile app.

Bryce Harper nearly dealt to Houston Astros by Washington Nationals

"Fruition. I didn't think a whole lot of it after that. So not surprising at all to me. I heard that teams were very close. Obviously the dodgers would go onto putting the claim. I was also told that the Oakland Athletics we're talking about possibly trading or Bryce Harper with the nationals at that time when the Astros were kind of the front runner for a short time. But obviously that was the initial deadline. It didn't happen. RV national decided they were going to try to put one more push together ended up you may remember scoring twenty five runs the night after they get their team attack at the deadline would soon thereafter fall apart. Now, it also was reported earlier this week that the NATs made a fair off to Harper before he had free agency ten years three hundred million dollars straight thirty million per the Morrison learner done deals before where they deferred money in the light. And supposedly this was a straight up three hundred million dollar deal again rumors prior to are you surprised at Harper turn something like that down. Are you surprised that the nets were willing to make that bigger commitment to get inside? No, I'm not I think what happened was first of all there was no opt opt-outs for Harper in the deal. Jody MAC, so he'd have been locked in for ten right at that three hundred and for that reason he was not going to accept the deal. You see the trend here. Whether it's. NSS or any of the other several year deals? They get done with elite level offensive players. They want opt out options not quite today. Extent of basketball where these guys every year opt out and rework their contract. But that's kinda the way this is going. Now, here's why the deal is justifiable. If you're the nationals as fair as you put it and why you can say that they do diligence and did what they had to do. And that's because the market was just so down. It's so depressed last year that there's no guaranteed at Harper's gonna get what he wants which is closer to listen to his side of things four hundred four hundred fifty million. I think three hundred is absolutely reasonable. But the NAFTA their homework and offered a number that he was unlikely to accept I use the analogy that I think every offer whether it's your you in radio from our bosses or people listening around the country, whatever job they do. It says something to you. And this is the type of offer. You put yourself in those shoes where your company basically said, listen, if you wanna stay here, we're cool with that. We'd like to have you, but we're not gonna outbid others, and we don't need you. And I think Bryce Harper kind of do that was gonna be the stance. The NASA in preparing for life without him for well over a year. Now, the development of Juan Soto who's a finalist for rookie of the year. Controllable contract about a meeting the way that Michael Taylor. And a couple of the other outfielders that they've got in organization like the robot come along gives them the luxury of not having to spend a ton of money on Harper. And if you keep him at a huge contract, well you can win because he's an MVP caliber player. And if you don't then you spend that money on pitching and other positions, and you still can win. I think that's kind of how they do it. Their preference would probably be to spend that money and a bunch of areas rather than just on him. But if you could have gotten to come back at a quote unquote hometown discount, which I think ten and three hundred. With no opt-out would've been then they would've taken that. And move forward is kind of the feeling that they were gonna offer some people don't actually go to macro taking this like this is the first of offers. No, go back and forth to me. This was the first the final offer. This was damn making it a given college try. So they could turn around and say, hey, we did our part. Is there any chance that if the market is depressed like it was last year and people are already talking free agency is now open so teams can talk about individual players, which they couldn't until free agency started. It doesn't sound like anyone else's willing to get maybe except the Phillies willing to get into the neighborhood that Bryce Harper and Scott Boras talking about if they they realized that they're bidding against themselves and the market isn't as great as they thought. It was going to be do you think the Harper Harper and the NATs can be revisited? Yeah. I think that's the one way this happens in probably the only way that it happens. Jody. And I think that's why they made the offer. They did. Honestly, they've made it a at least workable enough deal for him that if he comes calling back to them so to speak with the market's depressed, if that's the case then in three hundred up. You're still on the verge of John Carlos Stanton down. I think it would be viewed as a major disappointment by him and Scott Boris because they have set the record for eighty well behind Kershaw thirty four they would've set the record for overall total money, Giancarlo Stanton. I think they would like to do at least water both of those things, and they feel like he's position to based on his age is performance is upside for the future, but that's the way that this would work out where he stays with the national if twenty seven teams winter carries over and you don't see the money come back in the owners aren't spending money the way people think that they're going to most people look back at last year. And they just say it was like that because of the preparation for this year with Machado with potentially Kershaw left it out. Let's say west Bryce Harper. But if it stays down. Yeah. I could see him going back at that three hundred billion. I just believe he'll be able to get more than that from somebody. Whether that's Philly. So you mentioned kind of the team. My fake for him for a while. I don't think it'll be the cubs. But the dodgers make a lot of sense, the Texas Rangers always just spent some random wacky contract. You never see coming and I'm just throwing a random team out there. But no sleeper like a San Francisco or someone could swoop in and spend a ton of money. Someone's going to pay this guy. I really believe that brand pulse. In our buddy. From when I was six seven down in DC talking watching him sports. What is here on CBS? Sports radio eye. Nats are at least in part a team in transition. A team going the wrong way is the wizards. A lot of people pick them say. Hi, everybody picked up as a playoff team any some people thought they could be a little bit of an under the radar potential Eastern Conference finals tight team looking to take a step up from last year, at least here in the first eleven games. Well, and I don't really know where this game from because as you said they've been a perennial playoff team. Now, we've had no delusions of Brander here in the Eastern Conference. Bryce Harper rejected 'aggressive offer' from Washington Nationals

"Usually move slowly not as quickly as people want and baseball, but it's been a lot out there. Ready? The Phillies are going to go after Harper and Machado and a whole bunch of big names. Here's the latest on Bryce Harper. So this according to Bob Nightingale of USA today. And then also the Washington Post has a story on this. The national apparently offered Harper deal at the end of September an aggressive offer. It was it was deemed that offering colluded. No opt-outs and was less than four hundred million dollars and the Nightingale from USA today says the offer was thirty million per year about thirty million a year and the from the NATs and now the Phillies giants and cardinals expected to be in the mix. So the national is trying to keep them. I'm not surprised Howard. He wanted. He he wanted to go to free agency. There's no reason from take a deal when you set in season. It's his agent short-sea. Here's here's the problem that exists with this thing and anybody that thought that these signings would happen quickly for the big guys. Never we're we're kind of foolish because the agents who's it, Dan, Lozano, Lasana Machado, Chato, and Scott Boris. They don't wanna be I because they want to see what the other guy gets. So that kind of stalls things and the opening offer by the nationals is just that an opening offer. You gotta have a starting point. And you don't start big right away. Harper. I was told by by people on the nationals in the dugout in the locker room that he really wanted to stay there. He likes. So they started if it's thirty million a year, that's fine. But you don't take you don't take the first offer. You don't you wait till after the season, you you want to become a free agent and see what other teams want to offer you, and then you can go back to Washington because if price say, it's Scott Boris is orchestrating this whole thing. And in the end of Bryce Harper says. Get me as much as you can. But I really would like to go back to Washington. So you wait you see what other teams offer? Scott Boras lies the other teams like he normally does all the time. Like he tried to do with Ariana. And he was really remember. That's was. This last spring training. Really? He was really annoyed that said he said well teams don't really wanna win. That's why we took this last November. When this whole thing started last year, he he build area as a two hundred million dollar ended up getting seventy five right? So now, you have to wait and see what other people, but who's to say that other people are going to off from more than three hundred million or thirty million a year. I don't know. I don't know if they will or not I do think that they want to break the record. My sense is because Boris had the record. But a-rod the first record to fifty fifty two. I think in now Stanton has the record at three twenty five. I think heart breaks the record yet. I'm a team if I'm the Phillies I don't give him an opt out because they all want these opt-outs now. But the problem is it's like everything everything goes up money goes out. So now when they see it's okay now, the salaries are going to go out of you leave you three. It's just a never ending. It's like a gerbil running in the circle. But it just keeps on. But if you don't give the opt-out you might not get him. It's hard. It's a hard. No. You know, what I wouldn't give it to you. Don't get them. You don't get it. Because if in fact, you get to a point you don't have the opt-out he dies all for the plant. He can always leave you if another team because he agent plays this little game. He has players with other teams like Boris talked to the cuts a Kris Bryant contract coming up. And then you kind of slide in you know, he's not worth Bryce Harper money, which is three hundred seventy five billion dollars. But well, get Bryce Harper worth three hundred. So you kinda squeeze that conversation. Even though it's a legal. They all do it. And that's the problem. That's why I don't give them enough that you want to sign here you sign here. And that's the end of two things that over this weekend that have stood out to me Howard. I feel better about the Phillies chances at landing one of these guys
