The Secret to Success Is Failure

"Over the years I've learned a couple of things. And i usually talk to you about them too. As i learned that my put him up there in the ten thousand plus podcasts. I've done. I shared a bunch of stuff with you and honestly i haven't even scratched the surface yet. I do ten thousand more twenty thousand more. Just keep on going. But i've learned a lot about success in any area of your life. And that's how i define success i don't defining it is just money or just happiness or just safety to security. I don't i divided in any area. You choose you want to have success. A positive experience in what i've learned something and that is that it's really more about failure than it is winning and some folks don't even take a shot at it. They don't want to fail so bad they don't even try but getting what you want. That is important to you in your life. I have learned and you can disagree with you. But you shouldn't 'cause i'm right. It's always on the other side of the lesson taught by failing always waving scott. I'm fail every single time. High win win win. I always get it right. I'm all laugh at you. You just you just practice in private and got it wrong. Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes you live something for thirty years and got good at it so the first time you did something else. If it's kind of a pretty good match you did it. The first time bill. Look at me. i'm good at what i do. But if you're good at anything failed lot true so if you're sitting there thinking hey why can't i get what i want what i always fail. You're going to get what you want because you're failing. I like to fail often. I like to fail fast. I if i'm gonna fail wanna get it over with. Are you with me on. That wants a yeah

So i got ask you some reading your website and one of the first things i learned. Is that photography was not always your passion. You were actually studying to be a doctor. And how do you get from wanting to be a doctor to photography well. My sister's boyfriend introduced me to the dark room. And i just found that so exciting. He loaned me his camera. Before i had one showed me how to use it. And i started taking pictures with it and it was just blew. My mind was so exciting. And i thought to myself i have got to do this. And so i made the switch much to the dismay of my family but as you can imagine but i never regretted it net. Not not for a minute and i love photography from the beginning and i still do still have the passion. Oh very cool. Did you remember what it was that turns john with those early experiences. What is it about photography that said this has got a connection to something deep for you. It's a good question. i'm not sure if it was any one particular moment. But i can't remember something that made me want to do special effects and and i did i special effects for ten years. I kind of disdained normal photography in the summer of sixty nine. I was working in pearl harbor. It was a summer job between semesters working on old world war two dry docks maintaining them and in one of the dry docks. I found a piece of broken red glass. It was from an old darkroom from the forties. And i was just experimenting with color infrared film and i realized that if you shoot through the glass like a filter you get one set of colors and if you reflect in the glass you get another set of color so you could. Vaccinations Clear the Way for Vermont to Lift COVID-19 Restrictions

"Vaccination campaign. Not only did we lead the United States, but Vermont is now a global leader and vaccinations to defeat Covid 1980% of the states eligible population. Those 12 and over have received at least one dose. The White House has touted Vermont success as it pushes to have the whole country reached 70% vaccination by July. 4th Liam Elder Connors from member station Vermont. Public Radio joins us now. Good morning, Liam. Good morning. What does it mean for Vermont to drop all covid 19 restrictions? Well, things were already somewhat loosened here in this state. You know, the masking mandate had already been relaxed a little bit. But now there are no limits on gatherings or capacity caps for events and restaurants, and any masking and distancing requirements are now gone. And this wasn't a completely unexpected change. These restrictions were going away by July 4th. But when the states saw that The vaccination rate was going up so quickly, Governor Phil Scott said. Once we have that 80% mark, he would drop all restrictions. And so we hit that yesterday and here's the governor dropping those restrictions at a press conference. I'm lifting all remaining state pandemic restrictions in state of emergency will formally and at midnight. June 15th tomorrow. And here's why. Because it's safe to do so. And it's safe because Vermonters have done their part to keep the virus from spreading. And stepping up to get vaccinated should say the only real exceptions are for some federal rules like masking is still required on public transportation. And as we heard there, Liam, the governor is also letting the state of emergency expire in Vermont. What is the effect of that change?

Rep. Byron Donalds Says We Should Reinvent the System on Market Principles

"There's no system keeping you down. There are incidents of stupidity. We should address and racism we should address. But if this institution and system is keeping you down, then how did you become such a tremendous success? I mean, is that why you're such a threat to these idiots on the left part of my language? Yeah. Oh, yeah, I definitely think so. I definitely think that's why and I'd go one step further. I think whether it's mark or myself or our Senator Scott or Burgess Owens or anybody else. You know, when we are out there making our arguments it goes past just Saying that God given natural law and a constitution that limits central governmental power is essential to liberty and freedom. In the prosperity of all people. It's more than that. It's also the reality that we go to step further and saying, if you look at some of the areas where the most quote unquote inequality exists. These are in areas that have largely been governed by Democratic liberal policy for almost two generations since the Civil Rights Act, and since the voting rights Act If you look at some of the communities where the left like talking about, um, um you know, black people having to wait in line from golly amount of hours or people having to wait in line for golly amount of hours. Those are typically in Democrat areas where the supervisor of elections of the Democrat and they, frankly either didn't plan through acquisition of equipment or didn't plan making sure they had additional polling places open to make sure people can vote easily. It's looking at the idea that if you believe that a black kid in America really what it is today, a poor kid in America somebody on the on the on the low end of the socio economic spectrum. Doesn't have access to the education they need. Then the solution isn't to put more money into the same system that has failed people before. It's actually reinvent the system reform the system around market principles because market principles have proven to provide more product and more service to more people at a lower cost to those people. Than any other system on the face of the planet.

Mike really really look forward to his phone calls to calling the people he loved on the telephone. You haven't talked to in a while and this is what's weird about asking. An astronaut for advice. Is that the stuff that makes living in space bearable. That helps you survive. Pandemic in isolation is the same simple wisdom. Humans have passed down forever. You just have to actually do it like another tip. My Dad for this moment we're in is just to think positively. You're not too cool to try it. One of the the the secrets to successes for long duration spaceflight missions is is an indoor laugh at me or do laugh at me because it's a cool thing is that a a good attitude can make a really big difference when my crew mates were cheerful and even though the things were going the way we wanted a good attitude work so much better than a bad attitude in kept us in a positive spiral instead of a negative spiral. Also can you. Can you break down a little bit? In terms of when things are really hard it can be difficult to to have a good attitude. How do you go? How do you personally go about making sure that you maintain one? It's not always easy. I think I've been accused of being born with a good attitude It's it's not always easy for me and I'll share a few things right so I like having a plan like working at checklist and sometimes things don't work out the way I wanted. And I'll share a story on my sixth spacewalk. It was my first time in American space suits and we're taking a part of the space station apart so we could reach inside with a I kid. You not a grease gun to lubricate a rolling surface. That actually rolls until it's to keep the solar arrays pointed at the Sun so just picture this. Mike is Floating in space attached to the ISS by basically a Bungee cord and he's doing maintenance on this one part. Loosening some screws to get access to it but something keeps going wrong. When I would do this sir undoing screws they would float away an excellent. You don't WanNa be in space. You don't WanNa make your own new satellites. Come back into the space station space junk and I mean a experienced professional and I started feeling bad because that caught a couple of them and I was just like man. This spacewalk is not going the way we wanted. I was getting a little bit tired and and it was a little frustrated. That things weren't going and then my friend drew foy still. He was about forty or fifty feet away on a different part of the space station and he just said some encouraging words like I don't worry that happens you know what we're doing great book at the Earth and all of a sudden I got out of my downward spiral because my friend said Hey. Don't worry about it it's good. You're great you're doing great and it turns out it was a great space walk. Got Everything done that we needed to get done. The Solar Alpha Rotary Joint Gut Gut lubricated and even though it didn't go the way we thought it was didn't go the way I wanted to go. We got the job done at the end and you'll and and just one of the things like sometimes things don't go right yet to take a step back before you take two steps forward but he'll just Just look at each problem. He can break it down to smaller things. And just keep a good attitude.

"About eating disorders Taylor Swift's netflix documentary. Miss Americana is gearing up for. Its release. So we're getting more and more a little tidbits about it especially from her media interview. The Taylor Swift did with variety this week. Today's headlines revolve around Taylor swift opening up about her eating disorder order which is featured in the documentary according to variety in an unseen clip from the documentary. Taylor says that she would see quote a picture of me where I feel feel like I looked like my tummy was too big or someone said that I looked pregnant and that will just trigger me to just start a little bit. Just stop eating and to quote Taylor. Later told variety that opening up about her struggle with an eating disorder was a difficult aspect of filming the documentary. She expanded on her comments saying quote. I I didn't know if I was going to feel comfortable with talking about body image and talking about the stuff I've gone through in terms of how unhealthy that's been for me my relationship with food into all of that over the years and quote she also went into greater detail about being eighteen years old and reading a tabloid headline that said pregnant at eighteen question. Mark Mark God. That sounds awful. I can't believe we write about women's bodies that way in the media Apparently the film features pictures of Taylor Swift before and after she got a hold of a better healthy eating regiment. Apparently the nineteen eighty-nine tour era versus the reputation tour era shows two different unhealthy versus healthy body types for Taylor nineteen eighty-nine being the time period where her struggles with an eating disorder. Were at their height. She talks about how she would hardly hardly eat anything at all. While touring saying quote. I thought that I was supposed to feel like I was going to pass out at the end of a show or in the middle of it now I realize no oh if you eat. Food have energy get stronger. You can do all these shows and not feel enervate. Did end quote. She later added that during the era when she was a double zero she she quote wasn't eating and quote. This all makes me so sad. Being a woman in the public eye is truly a curse like we have such a long way to go with how we treat women's men's bodies in the media. I this sucks. Glad She's speaking out about it though. Good for Taylor Swift for opening up about this. I hope it helps. Young girls realized that we have a unhealthy healthy standard of beauty for our female popstars. This is definitely my favorite favorite topic of the.

"Reelection. The enthusiasm across the country for this president is unmatched. And unlike anything we've ever seen the tweet coming, just hours after Trump officially kicked off his twenty twenty bid out front now Terry McAuliffe. Former Virginia governor former DNC chairman now has CNN political commentator, and governor welcome to CNN. Good to have you here in New York. All right. So look, your former DNC chair, you're known as one of the most prolific fundraisers of all time. So you know how this is Don. How hard it is. We don't know all the details of Trump's money and who's giving it, but twenty four point eight million dollars in less than twenty four hours for the president. What's your reaction to a number like that? That's a good hall, whatever you want to say about it. But the other thing I'd say you're in no matter how much money he has. He's going to have a really tough time winning re-election. If you look at the map of the country, look at the polls today, I'm gonna just saw polls. Yes. Emmy biden. And was victim beaten Trump and Texas and North Carolina in Florida, having five or six Democrats are beating Trump today in Florida, so you can have all the money in the world. But you know he has a base of above forty percent you hook at the rally last night. He's speaking to the same people. He has to grow, and he's got to reach out to independence. I think it's gonna be very hard for them. Okay. Here's the thing, though, in terms of money, and I know money doesn't mean everything. But it means a lot. Okay. Is one day hall is four times. What Joe Biden raced in his first day nearly just just under and it's more than Biden suggested on Monday night, as and his entire campaign. And yet, Biden is the front runner. Now, I know you can say, oh, look there's a lot of people running. There's a lot of competition but does that for you raise any yellow flag? I always the president United States, America's, so for his reelect, having chaired Bill Clinton's reelect. I can tell you getting back in as a president. You're going to be the ability to raise a lot of money. But our candidates are going to all have the money that they need to be competitive against trumpet, you know, it's a lot of money but it's not going to matter at the. End of the day at some point, you can only spend so much money. He has a very hard time. I don't know how he could take Michigan. Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, three states that we lost by a combined, total seventy seven thousand votes. And yet, ninety two million people stayed home in two thousand sixteen what happened? People woke up the next day and said holy cow. How did this happen, and they came out in record numbers and seventeen Virginia? The biggest pick up a house of delegates in, in one hundred and forty years saying anything has turn out is was enthusiastic, and driven in love at that time. So, in other words, you're thinking, that's kind of a cap, but on your side. Why ours hand ninety two million people stayed home, and they woke up shock the next day they're going to be motivated to we won the congress last year we picked up seven governors, a heat, how has a record and his record that, you know, on healthcare trying to destroy Affordable Care Act on education, what they're doing the department of education. He's hurt a reputation around the world he has a record now. So he also what's interesting in his launch. Last night. He is. I don't know if this is what he's going to do every time. It's it is consistent, but he went with some things we had heard before, and not just her before governor identical to before. So everyone look at your screen, you see him last night, and you see him in two thousand sixteen or last time around here. Yes. Cricket Hillary Clinton broke it. Hillary Clinton thirty three thousand emails deleted the acid wash. Those emails, Davidoff be seeing, again, thirty three thousand emails deleted bleached acid washed, we going to keep on winning winning winning. We will have so much winning if I get elected we are building. The wall looks, we are building the wall,.

"New tonight. Former vice president, Joe Biden under fire for citing to segregation is senators that he served with as examples of colleagues, he could work with during an era where quote, at least there was some civility in the Senate, but comments last night, during a democratic fundraiser here in New York, and his democratic rivals have been quick to respond. Let's be very clear that the senators that he is. Speaking of with such adoration are individuals who made and built their reputation on segregation. The Ku Klux Klan celebrated the election of one of them. So this is a very serious matter. But he's never. To celebrate. Democratic.

"Amanda, Scott back on September second that would have been a Sunday morning. If I told you that was going to have their fate in their own hands with making it to the American athletic conference championship game. Would you have believe me for one second that morning? Listed a one percent. I bet my that. I can't believe we're in the spot. I can't either that was of course, one day after a season opening forty six twenty three loss to Texas Mustangs, really tough schedule early in the season. No doubt lost their first three. What a kick start winning and overtime was for this team and doing it with a gutsy call by your head coach to to go for two in the overtime against navy to put in the quarterback, by the way that he had been sick quarters prior to win that game in overtime a net. Started a five out of seven the only two s heavy losses in that stretch were two ranked teams actually Cincinnati. I think it just dropped out of the rankings with the loss of week before. And by the way, nearly beat them. There was a loss in overtime. The other one was a loss to UCF. Nobody beats these days. Just an impressive comeback by this SWAT. Monica shows a lot about the character of the players shows a lot about the job. This coaching staff has done, and it says a lot about the whole program to just getting better every week as the season goes along you mentioned the turning point. It was the navy game within to come out and come out with the mindset that they had against Houston win that game. It was a defensive mindset. I can't remember the last time. I don't know if I've ever seen an SMU team function like they did defensively rich. They're going to have to have that tonight to beat this. Memphis, this meant this team is good. They've won six games. They've lost four most of their losses are on the road, rich. They only lost a UCF by a point. I thought they were going to win that game watching it that was thirty one thirty they laws to UCF at home. They are only one in three on the road this year there. One win a couple of weeks ago at East Carolina fifty nine forty one. But you said their defense is going to have to play great nine of the last fourteen games for Memphis. They have scored fifty or more that includes last. Against SMU, sixty six forty five the fourth consecutive winning the series, and they do a lot of it on the ground. They had the fifth best rushing offense in the nation. And is because they have one of the best running back to the nation. I think I expected him to say something simply because his comment to the New Yorker in response to allegations in the article they published his response than yorker was so thorough. It was a long. I mean, there's a full paragraph response. It wasn't a no comment. It was actually a lengthy response, so I would have expected a little bit more here, but I would suspect that this would be a legal decision onto, say anything, Julia. Thanks so much sleep. You know to make all these going to be other call, but he's not going to say one single thing that you want to hear. Well, the allegations against Mr. moon vests have led to one key question is the CBS board complicit in the moon best scandal in a column for the New York Times. Earlier this week, Jim Stewart laid out the murky water surrounding the board how much they might have actually known about the allegations. Many questions remaining unanswered tonight is Ronan Farrow who originally broke the story reportedly gearing up to do yet. Another piece on moon vest Stewart here, thankfully with us now, Jim, good to see you. So give me your initial reaction to not addressing this at all this evening on the call. Well, I think it's tricky because you know, as she said he, he did address it to New York, or I would have thought that at the very least he would have made some sort of reiteration of that sort of statement. And I think particularly significant that in the New Yorker comment, he didn't just deny everything. He did apologize and say he was sorry if he'd made advances, it made some women uncomfortable. I read that. Whoa, you know who approved statement that's an admission that something went on here, and I think that's going to be that's a serious issue for CVS as they go forward..

"scott back" Discussed on KOMO

"Of procedurally move this of this vote along i'll let alone vote to pass it there's a new number of republicans that i say that they're still undecided they're wang possible lastminute changes before they say one way or the other how they would vote on final passage of the bell uh so there's not enough republican for any air or any absences and that's why i john mccain as it's like you said his recovery from surgery the fact that he's still in it it arizona and not here in dc names that for now the vote is just postponed but we'll keep wash it he bc news correspondent jerry ellis park's joining us from the nation's capital thank you so much thank you komo news time is 340 guys i come from her weisbaum la loom traveling the day scott back in sound so thanks to her herbon speaking of travelling italy's earners have been doing that very successful series in chicago against the white sox they sweep the threegame get together now they'll try to keep the momentum going against the best team in the american league based on record the houston astros game one of that threegame series getting underway at five turn our time mariel miranda on the mound for the mariners land smut callers going for the astros who have a sizeable lead in the division but in terms of the wildcard in america complete the ems of very much in the mix just two and a half games out of a postseason spot and just one game below 500 so you said that as a in initial goal get back to five hundred look you would love to see them get at least two out of three right and then you've got a five and one road trip at the very least get one of four and two trip and he come home for the uh big homestand getting underway on friday at safeco field so looking forward to what the mariners can do against a very good astros club spout two weeks away from seahawks training camp we are counting down toward all of that of course all those practices there open to the public they have been basically sold out so if you don't have a ticket you can out on that bitter but again excited about.
