"Have already happened. Can't change the past. It's already happened. And then he said there's people that focus on the most important time that we all have and it's the only one that we can control. Which is the president which is right now and he said the more that you can focus on the now the more peace abundance prosperity and ease. You'll live and that's where. I realized i'm like you know what i have to get grounded with my mindset and it's it's i have a very strict routine every single day we get up at the same time six. Am we on the skulls. Me to captain the morning. So i i basically start the day off and get her at a bed a little bit later. So i i get my my pre workout meal. Wake her up You know we get washed up. Take the dogs out. Go downstairs are home gym workout. Go back upstairs. Coffee goes on and we have breakfast. And that's and we don't do anything 'til ten. Am i four hours of day and I do gratitude every single night before i go to sleep. I have a gratitude journal. That that i write in every night. And it's basically you know what. I'm grateful for that day and i always right. You know a a victory from that day so something great. That happened because there is something No matter how big or small it is. There's something great that happens every single day and and then we do a nightly meditation so we do a money prosperity Guided meditation every single night. That we go to sleep. And we've been doing that for three years and by jason stevenson. Wonderful youtube channel. I highly recommend it. So we're constantly were going to bed. with those prosperous mindset And thoughts running through our brain when we're conscious and then when we're unconscious and it's all about reprogramming and the one thing that i will say about mindset before we close out is whenever you have a thought ask yourself if it's truth or if it's a story most of the time because we have over fifteen to twenty thousand different thoughts a day. Your mind is playing tricks on you. It's a story. And i remember saad guru. Who's this indian yogi. Said that you know if he think about the story that you're telling yourself in your head and pretend that you're producing a movie with those thoughts that you have in your head when people go see that movie or would they run away from it and mel robbins. Even said this to she. Has you know she wrote the the five second rule And you know. Mel said the second row. And it's yeah five four three two one get up so she said if if people actually had an external microphone built into their heads where people could hear the thoughts most people would have people running away from them yet on our internal dialog ends up hurting us more than helping us so the one thing that i always remind people is when you're having a thought when you're having a feeling before you act on that thought or feeling and i challenged my clients whenever they say things to me. I'm like okay. Is that a fact. Is that truth or is that a story and they're like well. It's a story okay. So you're you're making something up. That hasn't happened yet or may never happen. But you're actually going to will that and bring that into your present. For what reason is it. Make you feel good. Is it making you. Happy is it bringing you fulfillment and if it doesn't fill one of those cups it's a story that you do not need to play in your head the whole concept of living in the now i'm just gonna tell you Everyone that's listening. It's not easy. It is a daily daily practice because deprogramming years and years and years of having fears and having anxieties no matter how young you are but just like anything the more that you practice and and t harv eker says this. Every master was once a disaster so in the beginning. Yeah you might suck at staying present and you might float into that fear state you might float back into that anxiety state. That's okay we all have but the more that you're aware of it and the more that you practice the better your mindset will get boom so tell me real quick as we close where people can connect with you and find out more about what you and your wife are doing and like i said just get to know you better. "I'd love to do. We're going to deeper into linked jan and how you've been leveraging in using it because what we're saying to people is look leave untapped opportunity on link jin to really take the time now to build those connections because the seeds that you start to so now i going to come as you develop a nurture that just like farming going to seed and sprout and what you do now is going to impact many months down the track which is cost. Scott is what happened she you but before we move on sometimes we do need to plow that field a little bit talk about some of the ways that you overcame some of those obstacles new sites. Actually you'll superpower because sometimes when we are sitting in that situation off want now. Everything feels and seems hopeless. We're not able to take on any new learnings. That really could be the solution to moving forward because what happened to you. of course. it's taken that trajectory in a whole other area. Which now you'll specializing in. So what are a few words of advice some insights maybe around becoming obstacles that that becomes a superpower being resilient and that that can sort of late to successes and then i think jive deeper into to the link. Jim but what are some <hes>. Insights you wanna share here. Well it actually. It all came about two different things so just four and a half years ago. I filed for personal bankruptcy. And i am i i. I don't believe you can go any lower. The net point now to preface. That i had a successful coaching practice. I had a successful online wellness practice but the gym was failing. It was losing about three thousand dollars a month. I was the personal guarantor of the lease and for business owners. That don't know what that means. When you're the personal guarantor of the lease your financially responsible for every dollar. It's owed on that least whether it succeeds or fails and that was about four hundred and fifty thousand dollars of liability debt. That was in my name. And i met with my business attorney and he said listen. You got two choices. You can continue having your two successful businesses fund. You're failing one or you can file for personal. Bankruptcy have cleaned sate slate and start your life now and when he painted that picture for me. There was no hesitation. A lot of people. That may be here that they're like all my guide. I might be faced with filing for bankruptcy. I didn't hear your life is going to be over. I heard your life is about to begin. Because this emory this was my opportunity over an eighteen year period that i was finally able to start doing things on my own my own way painting the picture that i wanted to paint carving the path that i wanted to carve people think that life is a straight line. Life is not a straight line there. Are you know again. We're in a very unprecedented time rate now in globally a lot of people have. There's been a lot loss. There's been lives lost. There's been <hes>. Relationships lost there's been memories and precious time with loved ones that are lost but again we've all been through our own form of personal pandemics whether it's divorce whether it's bankruptcy whether it's cutting ties with family member whatever it is but the one thing that always kept me going was knowing that i couldn't control anything that has happened. Can't control it. It's early in the past. And i can't worry too much about the future because it hasn't happened yet and remember reading. A book called the power of now by eckhart totally and he talks about just and and this is m read. This is my the foundation. That i always come back to whenever there's a wall kicking moment whenever there's a hiccup with something that's going on. He says in this book. There's three types of people there's people that live in anxiety there's people that live in fear and there's people that live in peace. The people that live in anxiety are the ones that are constantly replaying the tapes of their past that are keeping them where they don't want to be the people that in fear are the ones that are so fearful of. What has it happened yet. They are paralyzed with what's going on right now. And then there's the people that live in peace and the people that live in peace are the ones that are living in the time period. That is the only time in our life that we can actually control which is the now the present moment which we are in rate at this time so when i started to think about that i knew no matter what was going to be thrown at me. There is a solution for every problem. And you hear it. All the time live in the solution. Don't live in the problem if it's already happened. Okay i'm going to work through this. There's a there's a way to figure this whole thing out and i had to remain grounded. And that is what's really enabled me to continue to thrive whether there's a pandemic or not it's allowed me to overcome those obstacles. I'm not saying that there is no emotional scars. We all have. We always carry around emotional scars. But it's how we process and handle them and grow from them and it's also allowed me to become resilient it's allowed me to understand and take conceptually know that no matter what the universe is throwing at me it's going to propel me to something greater and i look forward to those challenges because we are challenged when something is thrown our way and we are growing. We become better definitely and you being in the background. The jim knight building muscle. When you're lifting you tearing muscle a posh to make wine. You'll crushing those grades. And so to build resilience. You have resilience muscle. Guess what in asia guy challenges and obstacles to be able to learn and grow and because of that you'll now able to share how you you'll leveraging linking because that was something that the kind of apparent to you. Hey i can connect with all of these people. So what i've got. I've got gone in john beforehand. Is i have actually let me. Just see if i can bring this on. Looked you up on lincoln and they guy we've got. Your leak did profile so i'll go. That might be nice to have been. But you know you talk about the best use of linked into build your business and brand. What would you say have been some of the key insights. You've learned through leveraging region. Some of the how. To's that really have made a significant difference in how you have leverage in the outcomes that you and your clients are now getting through using this platform. So i called the layer cake of lincoln and the four best practices or best things that you can understand the way that i call it. A layer cake is because there's a big layer medium layer small layer and then a tiny layer and the big layer is your profile. This is this is where people get to know who you are and what you do and actually if you scroll down a little bit and maria on my profile you'll see under the highlighted the featured information <hes> rate. They're on the right hand side. There's an optimize linked in. It's it's a free download <hes>. That i have where it helps. People start to optimize a pdf. That goes over the specific sections. And i always talk about making sure that you have a clear and present headshot you have a background photo that is branded to you. <hes> the about me section which is very very important and the two best tips that i can give you for the about me. Section number one <hes>. Actually three making sure. It's in first person you don't want it in third person. Make sure it's in first person number to make sure it's two to three hundred words in length that is leading the reader of your profile. No here's what i do. Here's how i do it. And here's what i do for clients and finally a call to action. So is there a website you can direct them to. Is there an email. They can contact you out so if you go to the bottom of that you will see that. I put a call to action. Connect with me here. Reach out to me here. Give people somewhere to go. The experience action is also very important because the experience section. It really allows you to pudding key words and what people don't understand is there's something called seo embedded all over our profile which means search engine optimization so are linked in profile so emory if you open up another window and you just go on google and i i always do this with people and you open up another window and you just type in my name and you type in scott aaron <hes>. One of the first things. That's going to come up with a google result on the first page is my latent profile. And are you talking. Yes and why. That's so powerful. So that means that you're profiles because microsoft obviously works in conjunction with yahoo with being with google so now when people are searching on google the redirected back to your page. So you can see rate there. My linked in profile is the third result on there.

"And Facebook Instagram just became these scroll holes where people just kind of went down and just, you know, scrolled and trolled and you know liked and commented and it was just it just was a waste of time. And you know people coined me the human connection expert because of how I connect with people but what people need to understand when you are a personal trainer and you're a busy person in her and and you have spent sixty thousand plus hours of one-on-one in person time with people you get really good at connecting and that's my superpower. That's my skills is connecting with people but I was feeling disconnected from Facebook and Instagram. So I wanted to connect with more people on a business level and I remember having a LinkedIn profile, which that's all I knew had just had a profile you have a lot of people actually yeah. So I I blew the dust off of it and like I let me see what this is all about. But one of my first mentors Susan Sly she said to me very early on she said Scott. Listen, if you're going to grow a business in brand you have to wake up every day. You gotta look yourself in the mirror and you gotta ask yourself. How are you going to connect with your dog? today and it was this like, when I'm like, oh my God, that's it. I got a connect with other business-minded people like me other Jim gym owners are their trainers other nutritionists off their group fitness instructors people that I could have a relatable conversation with without ever meeting them before because the greatest Connecting Point between two people that do not know each other is relatable pain and I know yeah, absolutely the business owner goes through and a personal trainer goes through so I started getting on there and I started connecting I started messaging and I started having a call after phone call after phone call two things happen. Number one. I was reading a book on go for now, which I highly recommend every human being to read. It's by Andrea Waltz and Richard Fenton Andrea has since become a friend of mine. She was on my podcast and it says it clearly on the book. Yes is the destination but know is how you're going to get there and I had it all backwards. I was going after yes, and I was feeling discouraged. When I would get get the answer no told to me, but then I reversed I reversed that I reverse engineer that I said, you know what let me disconnect from the emotional attachment to the boss know and embrace it and love it and have it as my Foundation because no leads to yes. So when I started falling in love with no the yeses started to show up because I was trying to sort through all those knows as quickly as I could. So as I was getting Traction in my business on LinkedIn using this methodology, I reached out to a buddy of mine. And as a joey listen, you gotta get on LinkedIn. I think I've struck oil here and you need to use this thing. So I taught him whatever. I knew at the time of what was working for me, and I said get back to me about a week or two and let me know what happens. So about a weekend. He sent me a text message and he goes home talk. And I said, okay so I I called him said what's up and goes dude. Listen, whatever you're doing. It really works. He goes. I have 14 appointments booked passage week you go out. You should totally be teaching this and and then another light bulb went off in like oh my god. I've been teaching my whole life, whether it's nutrition or personal training or a class and this is worth for me. This could work for other people. I just had to put structure around it now February of 2016 is when I launched my coaching practice and it's just I mean he's gone in this wildly successful Direction so grateful for it, but there was one more kink in the hose. And this was my third and final Jim. So at this point in the fitness industry remember I started in the late nineties. So I'm in my this is my third decade 90s mm mm tens and I'm you know dead things changed. There was no real internet when I started nineteen ninety-eight. There was no Facebook that was social media, you know, a website was a big deal at that time. So my gym was losing about $2,000 a month. The building was falling apart. My landlord's had no money to put back into it. Basically when it rained outside it rained inside. That was basically what was going on with this girl and I remember I was sitting with my business attorney and I had these two profitable businesses and I had this one business that I was filtering the profits from the two into the one to keep it afloat. He said listen, You got two options option A you continue doing you're for as long as you can because what I what I didn't mention is I had just signed my third five-year extension for this gym and I was in I just finished a year. I was in year two of a five-year extension and I was also the personal guarantor. So four people that don't own a business or never have owned a business, but even if they did own a business and you weren't the personal guarantor what that means is I was financially liable to pay that lease off myself personally, if something happened to the business and at that point of where I was it was an additional $450,000 worth of liability debt wage wage. Wow, so my lawyer said basically option is to continue doing what you're doing option b you file for chapter 7 personal bankruptcy. Now, there's an old saying if there's an old saying is if you haven't succeeded until you file for bankruptcy at least once so so what people like when people hear the word bankruptcy they hear oh my God life is over. Nothing is ever going to be the same when I heard the word bankruptcy. I didn't hear that. I heard your life is about to begin because as I mentioned early on my life and my business Journey was predetermined for me. I didn't have a say I did what I had to do support my family. This was my opportunity. This was my golden opportunity. To start living life on my own terms and he said to me on a scale of one to ten one being don't do it 10 being slam dunk do it. He goes your 9.5. So on July 1st of 2016 just about four years ago. I filed for personal bankruptcy closed the gym 30 days later and I haven't looked back since and what I know is it was the best decision I ever made because Nothing is Stopping. I've bought two cars we bought our dream home. It's it's a smudge on my credit for another three years. Then it's gone. I still have I'm able to apply for credit cards. I was able to apply for a mortgage. I was able to get auto loans like nothing has stopped me because I wasn't going to let that determine where I was going. It was just a part of my journey not who I was and that's why I'm doing what today. Yeah, and I think people get hung up on a bankruptcy or any little Pitfall they have in life to get stuck. If you haven't experienced a pitfall, you're.

"Hey everybody, this is Jared everyday Guru. I have with me Tiffany. Hey everybody and we got Scott Aaron he has a month, but we got here the coach podcaster speaker best-selling author and his website if you guys want to visit it before I forget, it's got Erin. That's was two ways t t a r o n. So, do you want to go a little more detail about what you do? Yeah, absolutely. So, you know first just grateful to be here with you guys today and I appreciate the opportunity. So I've been coaching and Consulting for about 23 years. I started right before I turned nineteen. So I'm forty-one now and I kind of was thrown into the the Ring of coaching and Consulting completely by accident. I was an Undeclared sophomore in college. Not really knowing what direction I wanted to take my life. I like to party and hang out and do the things that normal teenagers did but from certain financial and family situations. I was kind of forced into a almost like a predetermined path for myself. So to make a long story short, my father ended up making a poor business decision in a company that he was working for prior about six months prior to opening our first family own health club that ended up Landing him in federal prison for two and a half years. Yeah. I saw that actually I saw that actually took out to me when I was reading your life your blurb. Yeah. So when that happened he approached me and he said listen you're going to have to leave the University of Pittsburgh. You're going to have to come back home and go to a college near Philadelphia, which is where dead. Lived so I transferred to Temple University and he handed me the keys to business and you know, it was eighteen and half going on nineteen never owned a business never really knew how to run a business didn't had a lead people managed people any of that and when you're kind of thrown into that situation, well number one, you have no choice but to figure it out, but number that has some amazing things are going to happen in the process. So I kind of leaned into it fell in love with health and wellness in the time. My father was gone got certified as a sports nutritionist personal trainer group fitness instructor a 4X the gyms membership-based by the time my father came back home. We ended up opening a second location a year after he came home and then in two thousand and three only a year after we own the second gym. We were approached by another family to actually sell both clubs for a million dollars. Wow dead. So we took the deal so at twenty-four years young I became a millionaire and spent all of 2003 and 2004 just personal training and just kind of trying to figure it out again wage. Am I going to do now? You know, we we have this money and I didn't really know what direction I wanted to go in but in two thousand and two thousand three early two thousand for my father said listen, we'd Homebase we need to get back into the gym business again. So we opened up our third and final Jim. The only issue was is at this point. There was no viable credit with my parents. So everything had to be put into my name, which I didn't really know what that meant. But five years later I did in around 2009 wage was one point five million dollars in liability debt. So I always tell people that you're dealt hands in life and you know, sometimes you look at those cards and you want to fold them and sometimes you want to hold them bub. I have it folded a hand yet even no matter how bad it looked. So on a personal level between 2009 and 2014. I was married and divorced twice. I don't consider off either of those relationships failures. They were absolute successes in their own right second marriage left me with one of the greatest gifts, which is my now almost eight year old little boy Taylor but it also gave the emotional maturity to understand what I really did want out of a partner and I met the woman of my dreams three years ago and and we recently got married and I I couldn't be any more blessed that I I have a best friend. I have a wife. I have a business partner all-in-one. So I am truly such a blessing and lucky guy but dead, you know, also just embracing everything with my past and my life but also my son and it's just a wonderful thing to be a part of and I'm truly grateful for that on a business standpoint. In 2013. I was asked a really powerful and interesting question that for the listeners. I want you to really really sit with this question. So a buddy of mine that I hadn't heard from in a while. Reached out to me via Facebook and he said hey Scotty. It's been a while. How about I pop by the gym and just catch up we can catch a workout and I can share some things that I've been doing. You know, he was a a freak wage of my my gym down in Philadelphia. This was now on the outskirts of Philadelphia side. You said yeah, come on by so he came by and we got a workout, you know, he was sharing with me, you know what he was doing and took one line Wellness business venture in the form of network marketing, which I did not think was a pyramid or Ponzi, which a lot of people think it is. I just think that there's certain people involved in the profession that give it bad name and I always tell people that I've been psychologically unemployable since day one. So, I don't know I don't know what it's like to have a boss or work for someone you've only known how to create my own schedule. So he asked me this question. He said listen if you got sick or injured. Where you couldn't physically get to the gym anymore you physically couldn't personal train people anymore. How would you earn income? And you know part of my French but this question scared the shit out of me. I I was a father I had responsibilities outside of the gym and the thought just imagine that like if you're a massage therapist and you can break your hands the thought of not being able to to do your skill and your craft and earn income it scared me. So I immediately said yes to this opportunity went all in with it. And it it was amazing in the close to 4 and 1/2 years that I built that business. I learned close to $400,000 worth of income nice, but not outside of the money the lives that I was able to touch and the relationships that I was able to build was incredible, but I made a pivot in 2014-2015 after I exited my second marriage and I was trying to figure things out. I I was looking at social media and we were talking a little bit about this in the pre-show. I was getting very disenchanted and distant doesn't heart disheartened with with how social media was how How it was pulling people away from connecting as as opposed to bringing them closer together, which was the initial aspect of it. Right.

"The immediately took a job with ESPN and I ran into urban at a game. It was the thing. Famous Alabama LSU game in Tuscaloosa, and we had a long talk on the sidelines. And I don't think I've ever seen anyone more miserable, watching the greatest, and most important game of the year. And the fact that he was talking to me versus coaching. Yeah. Absolutely. I say the same for Nick Sabin, and you hear this from athletes all the time that sometimes, you know, they don't miss training camp, and they don't miss the grind that puts on their body, but they missed from rotary of young of part of a team. And I think there's something to that the part that when he goes into the office to have that routine that this, this box has gotta get checked. And I've gotta make sure this person is doing this. And then I genuinely think he he enjoys the combined rather we kind of you him as this unhappy guy he doesn't joy throwing passes in practice. He enjoys trying to cover Henry rugs. I mean he legitimately enjoys. There's a reason he's a head coach. And still, I mean, let's be honest, he's not technically the secondary coach at Alabama defensive backs coach but he coaches the defensive back every day in practice. He's there with him hands on every day. It's not an act. That's, that's what he feels like he was put on this earth to do in there. And I think it may be going on now. About the time of the year. But I went down there a couple of years ago, and I'm sure you've been and hung out with him all day for a profile. At his his kids camp. And I mean you've seen him he was his into that is coaching the championship game. There's a there's a funny Arman containing clip on the right on sixty minutes. One day where he, he's basically given talking to, to about a ten year old for not smiling, not shaking his hand. He's right. I mean, most people would say, hey, I'm gonna put my name on this camp and I'm gonna go give a speech and I'm gonna throw office. That's just not the way Nick save, and he doesn't really anything has to be no I I asked him. I said, why are you doing this, because it seemed rather foolish to me? And he, he ran through a bunch of players, including Landon Collins, I believe, and he said, well, they've all come through this campus ten year olds and look at them. Now, you, you prove your point. But I mean, he of course, at this point you know, it's about to be sixty eight you're, you're starting to do the math, but to him as you've said, he doesn't look at it the way we would look at it. You know, and if we all get our jobs or perched our lives like, like he went out and we'd be more high functioning society, but he finally also not be fun. Sometimes Nick has never been accused of having fun. And that I mean, that's something Alabama has guarded gets all. And they went on the attack against that. You you've seen the them be more active in their first video on Twitter and social media. They fight back against this. You don't have fun if you come to Obama. So I mean, there's the times have changed, and Nick Sabin has changed with them in some regards, he still doesn't have Twitter county won't, but he's embraced that, that's the way that young people communicate nowadays. And that's the way they get their message across. So I mean, it really is remarkable to be for someone to be at the top of their game for as long as he has. I mean examples all the time. People can get there. It's, it's incredibly difficult to maintain because things change your environment changes your competition changes, and what makes him an all time. Great to me. Is that he recognized those changes, and he changed with them even in the face of what he was doing was tremendously successful. He was not scared to risk it to continue to evolve in change. Oh, you're right. Scott Aaron Suttles covered Alabama for a long time now with the athletic, Garin hope you'll come back soon. Absolutely. Great stuff. Shuttles who's part of a program that precedes us in Birmingham, every day, a three man front. We'll take a quick break. More to come right after this. Glad you're here.
