They're going to be either a top half of the playoff team in the east meaning like home court more. They're going to be knocking on that door. And i don't quite see that. But if they're that good defensively and they added all this offense. I think it's certainly feasible. That they do that. I mean there. Their offense would have to be underwhelming all the taliban just added for them not to be in that conversation if their top ten defense. So we'll see i okay at that point. What reason would they not be atop if you're a top. Ten defense in their offense has three all stars in it at that point I don't know we'll see we'll see. I'm really intrigued by them. I wanna see what happens with them. So who is your number seven. I don't think i my seven was the raptors right. So remember the knicks at six. I put the celtics at seven and this was one that i think we kind of had a little bit of a fundamental disagreement on last week to whereas that i didn't quite trust them and then i think it's a little bit weird did not have really a starting caliber point guard now. I'm not the biggest fan of schreuder. But if they add him was it. Sounds like it's one of the last realistic places. He could kind of land. I might be a little bit higher on them. Like i'm not a huge fan of his game. But i also see how adding him there. You don't have a starting point guard. Where that would that would help. And it takes a little bit of the pressure off of someone like tatum having the handle it all the time or brown having to handle it as much as he would have to. So you know. I could see how that would make sense. They've got a lot more top end talent than i think. A couple of these other teams do just having two guys that i think are potentially going to be all stars for a long long long time and i still like some of your post play..

"I wanna turn to nba free agency which is largely wrapped up some players. Still on the move but the big guy kind of still out there. Mark is dennis schroder. Who as we all know by. Now turn down a contract. Extension with the lakers at midseason was looking for a big deal. This off season. That deal has not materialized. What do you make of dennis schroder. Still being out there looking for a team. I can't really say that i'm surprised. I just frankly never understood a turning down the eighty. Four million dollar extension from the lakers. The talk that let's be is the i. I haven't heard dennis shooter. Say this but you know. I think it was the german basketball officials who kind of said on shooters behalf when schreuder wasn't gonna play for germany this summer that dennis has one hundred million two hundred plus billion contract go sign. I just don't know where that forecast came. And it's become a nightmare for him at absolute nightmare where basically almost all the cap space as gone at this point i it sounds like the celtics are at least considering trying to sign him to a bargain. Deal if it's not that does oklahoma city decide. You know what. Let's give schreuder one year of some cap space to create a trade ship out of the thunder no schreuder and have had him there and if they bring him in for year it's not gonna hugely change either their financial bottom line or their future aspirations. Or how. this season's team does. I could see the thunder doing that bringing him in on a year. And you know. That's that's kind of a theory that another team shared clean but other than that. If you're building around bill maybe of him do more playmaking which he's shown he can do. He showed improved in those areas at another guy. The back order genucel playmaking. Because if you want ben simmons and if you're going for ben simmons with young players future picks or whatever. Maybe you're not taking scotty barnes and the city jalen suggs like. How much is that a consideration. He came to see. I think that's really important. Because i think if you're toronto if you draft suggs at four he's gonna positive value in a year. If you're gonna have that outlook on things concerning lebron and anthony davis if a man those injuries to those two that the best thing that could have happened to them you know what because after an extremely short offseason ronald's coming out there talking about he wants to go ahead and play the entire seventy two or behind majority of seventy two. We've known the career of anthony davis rings always had these not major injuries but these like annoying injuries a hamstring here a slave pull their pinkie injury. I hand injury. Something that senator not anything debilitating or long-term anything like that. But it's always just been something so you were going to be asking. Anthony davis basically ten minutes after the finals. Were over to get back and start playing again. Playing at the level he was playing. It will will a court. You know the history of anthony davis eventually he was going to break down. So what the two main components the two main superstars. The foundation pieces for the los angeles lakers to win it. Nba championship. what they're doing right now. This is their off-season. This is what they're doing to get themselves ready right now to get ready for. The playoffs is to be refreshed. It to be ready mentally physically ready to go. We all know about the recovery powers of lebron james and we all know about the mind that lebron james has for the game of basketball to wear. Okay he might not be one hundred percent he might not be eighty to eighty five percent but still guess what a sixty five sixty eight point. Seven eight four six three one seven five five. Lebron james is still better than anybody that you got out here. He can make dennis schreuder better. He can make andre drummond better. He can make casey.

"What's up open globe. This is ben golfer with the washington post. I'm joined on the other line by michael. The pod enough from sports illustrated michael. I don't know about you. But i think this was the weekend i snapped and arguably you probably think i snapped when you first met me years ago but i really feel like this was the weekend where it went off the rails that lakers nets game where there's no lebron. No anthony davis no kyle kuzma. No james harden kyri and schreuder giddy jetted early in katie. Only place twenty four minutes and so this prime time saturday night game boils down to andre drummond versus lamarcus aldridge in a battle of the buyout guys. And i'm just sitting there thinking okay mba. I understand we took ten games out of this regular season. Take it from eighty to down to seventy two. Maybe we should've taken another fifteen or twenty games out of this season because clearly. They bid off a little bit more than they can chew. I'm i'm just looking at the quality of play right now in the league. I mean it's definitely the dog days. Whatever you wanna call it. We're all sort of in countdown to playoff mode. So rather than dissect andrei drums double double too much or that. Fluky boston celtics win over the denver nuggets this weekend. I thought we thought we'd look ahead to the playoffs. What do you think michael. Yeah i i mean. I've been ready for this for a while. So i'm right there with you so good. So here's the way. I wanna do it. I mean it's kind of a simple concept playoff x. factors that guys were circling whether it's for lineup. Reasons whether it's for matchup reasons whether it's because they're new guys we don't know what to expect just kind of question mark players To to kind of keep your eye on as we get closer and we're about five weeks out from the playoffs now which sounds like a lot. But i think it's gonna go fairly quickly And i just think that we should maybe start with with the match ups that i was describing earlier which is lamarcus aldridge For the brooklyn nets..

"Where. We are at the midway point of the nba season. And that means. I have questions for you about the utah jazz. I say the utah jazz to you. Right now what comes to mind a whole lot of threes there making these every time you know checkup jazz box score at my brain just glances over twenty two thousand from three leg. It's just nothing there number two in defense in number three or something in offense. They do profile as championship contender. Like they're the best team in the league by record right now. Are they the best team in the league to you. While the comparison that that's become sort of commonplaces they're they're the new sixty win hawks. The team that was built to win a lot of games regular season pretty ball movement side to side movement. You don't really have the star power to compete against lebron james when it comes down to it in the playoffs but i don't think they're just sort of blake a regular season flute so the way the jazz are playing right now. It reminds me not just of the hawks as you said but also a kind of mutant version of the houston rockets simply because of the sheer volume of threes. Does that comparison sounded all right and also does that comparison than invite the questions about what happens in the postseason. If shooting a bunch of threes doesn't go as well as it did in the regular season. That comparison does not ring true to me honestly just stylistically. They're so different. The volume of threes is similar. Like they are taking a houston. Daryl morey level volume of threes. But they play so differently. The other comparison is brad stevens. I think the first one to give voice to this is to two thousand fourteen spurs which is kind of like. That's that's i don't want to say that out loud well to an mba hipster fan to an emmy afficionados. Let's put it that way kinda sewer. What does that specific spurs team. What does that evoke in your memory. It almost has this sort of religion. Level reverend yes. Everybody loved watching that team. Anybody who was at games three to five of the finals that year when by the beginning of game four we were all looking at each other. Like all my god. They're just going to destroy the heat and to compare any team to where that team reached. It just feels like talking to a pitcher in the seventh inning of a no hitter. Something like you just don't want to say out loud but that is a comparison. People are making looked at jazz. Their undoing in the playoffs in in previous seasons was day would very much like the hawks. Actually day would get a lot of open threes and not make them and you could look at that and say well. We did everything right. We just didn't make shots. Which is what. Every hawks team including that one said after the playoffs. And so yeah. The three point volume is similar to the rockets. And that's a little scary. The team that this discussion has occurred in the context of is the lakers. As you said as it must be the defending champions and so when you look at the lakers right now. I want to get to lebron specifically in a second but just them without anthony davis and how much they've struggled most recently losing to these jazz and blow out. What is that revealing to you or confirming to you about what this team needs to actually content. I think like any team. They need their best players to be healthy. I i'm pretty low on the lakers panic meter because it's not just anthony. Davis who you know was first team all nba hill assures. Anthony davis is not like some borderline all the best players in the league. Dennis schreuder is maybe their third best player. I think kyle kuzma is kind of the claim that mantle disturbing might be their third most important player. Because he's the only other guy. With the exception of some frisky alex russo games entail. Norton tucker will get you some. You know some stuff done now and then but he's learned other on ball creator the other the other guys threat to score or pass to somebody else. Yeah you take them away and it's like oh my god. Lebron has to do everything and and you know he's probably getting a little tired and even though he'll never say it the only thing that will make my panic meter go above like three point. Five on a one to ten is if we get news. At davis's injury is lingering or more serious that we thought it was then if they're healthy in the playoffs yeah. Competition in the west is is probably better this year. Particularly if denver finds whatever gear they had going in the bubble. There's going to be a lot of really good teams in the west. You could get the one seed in the west and play the warriors. You could get to play the mad. I mean it's it's just every round is hard there. But yeah i i can't i can't get too worked up about it right now. Yeah the western conference meet

"Because people are saying even when they win they're going home, but they didn't look that good. Their defense was it was an issue. The rim protection was an issue and added on to die down. They don't look as good as they did last season and that's fair. But all along we were saying they're kind of easing into it. I think tonight was confirmation. They still have this level when they wanted us to push that button when they want to get their they can still take it to that level now maintaining this kind of intensity throughout a full season is not only hard to do. It's not something you really want to do Thursday, right? You don't want to burn guys out playing with this kind of intensity the entire season long and then you're on fumes by the time you get into the playoffs. So I'm not expecting to see this 929 out. This is just confirmation though that they can turn it up and get to this level when they need you and I think because Anthony Davis was so mad coming out of that Spurs game any through that challenge at the Lakers. They said okay and they ramped it up. I'm not going to try to be at this level every single night. But again is nice to see that they do still have this to them because we hadn't up to this point. Yeah, and all we can hope you know is that we see some of this throughout the season, you know, I mean like cuz I don't expect it in the next game either but as long as we see that when it comes down to it for some of these big matchups if we can see like a version close to this one. I mean for the Marquee matchups or important games then you know, I'm going to feel pretty comfortable about us going into the play-offs even you know, I know we a lot of us still think we might need to look at it and interior Defender. But again, you gotta think about the fact that a d was our Center for most of the playoffs with the exemption of a joker matchup. So, you know, I think we should still maybe look into that. But even if we didn't I think playoff time will be fine. And another big man protecting the basket is just to take some stress off essentially for during the season and for certain matchups Chris. I got a question here from Perry from YouTube said is schreuder's inefficiency an issue moving forward. And the shooter tonight 3 for 10 from the field. She's not great, but I actually liked his game tonight. Seven assists two Styles had two blocks. He's 6-1. How many times is dinner going to block shots? I think that's just a sign of the entire defensive intensity that everybody bought into but here's the number that I like the most and this number is zero zero in the turnover a column for Dennis Schroder, which has been an issue for him in the past few games..
