"Did find a lot of other things that we're trying today from our friends at all the and i up today is a park street deli hawaiian style chicken in the fridge section. So park street deli is their in house brand. They do a lot of prepared. Foods are usually really good. So this is a grilled boneless skinless chicken thigh meat situation in teriyaki sauce with pineapple. That sounds perfectly. Hawaiian looks great. It's funny i. I think i don't like change. Tie me. But i think that also could just be because i was raised in like a diet household and told that like he is better than dark meat. Maybe a really do like it yeah. Chicken thighs don't like the sound of it. I don't want. I know that i'm eating chickens by but it is. I like all chicken. Wait this tastes exactly like something. We tried once before. Maybe we did. I think at a school hall. Hawaiian chicken thigh foam another brand. I can't remember the name. This is great outrageous. Whoever told me chicken thigh meat is not good mom. I have a person. It's very sweet but in a good way and there's chunks of pineapple wow what are the stats like jamie. It's the stats are great five ounces. Did this come cooked or uncooked. Cooked so five ounces. One hundred and eighty calories three grams of fat twenty grams of protein. It says six smart points. That's like wild. I would add that to my rotation immediately that seems impossibly low to me. I'm going to hope for the leave. It how many i mean. How many calories per ounce chicken. I mean it seems about right for chicken breast. I thought five meet was heavier. But skinless and i feel like that's where a lot of the and then what about all the It's pretty saucy in sweet. It's so yummy.

"And around the world I'm Ron bar good avenue with us here on this edition a sports byline we're GONNA be talking football, high school, and college football. When it comes to college football, one of my favorite announcers todd blackledge I think he does an excellent job, the former quarterback who led Penn state to the National Championship. And he was picked in the first round seventh overall of the nineteen eighty-three nfl draft by the chief where he played five years and then he later played for the Pittsburgh steelers a couple of years and he was a three year starter at Penn. state for Joe Paterno and he guided the nine to thirty one and five record including a national championship in nineteen eighty two years said he also won the Davey O'Brien award for best quarterback in the nation and he played his high school football in Canton Ohio which if you know anything about. That part of the country a little bit like Texas where it's a a passionate sport same way in Ohio as well and as I said, he was the seventh bic in the first round of that eighty-three NFL draft and that was a big time draft because he was picked behind John Elway. But ahead of Dan Marino and there's always in great discussion about that and then later on, we're GONNA be talking some high school football. If you've seen the the movie that is out about Bob, Laddis Sore and day Lasalle High School, which is The most successful high school football played in the country the ever almost every season, and he certainly is one of those accessible coaches in the national high school hall of fame and the numbers tell the story he had a record get this three, hundred, ninety, nine, wins, twenty, five losses, and three ties is ninety three point eight percent winning percentage is a national record for coaches with at least two hundred wins. He coached Lasalle to a national record, one, hundred and fifty one game win streak more than double the previous record of seventy two games. He won seventeen state and eight high school national championships, and he said some pretty good players. The NFL twelve to be exact including Armani Tumor Dj, Williams and Maurice Jones drew, and he also has written a football teaching book. This is pretty good if you're out there teaching are interested in the technique of a high school football teaching chasing perfection the principles behind winning football the day Lasalle way. So it's going to be a very interesting our we'll kick it off in just a second talking with former quarterback, todd blackledge on America's sports talk. Show. Shell.

"Basically, you've checked off all the boxes for, you know, Republican And but then when you start bringing in and politicizing issues like immigration Andi. There are plenty of legal Hispanic immigrants that are opposed to illegal immigration. But when you have just kind of that, general fear of crackdowns and getting caught Maciste, Um, that doesn't look fair. No, that's that's not exactly the kind of selling point you want to make for trying to get people to join your party. Well, tonight, the Republicans have one more chance their version of the TV show. Democrats said there's last week. I actually like the convention's better This way. I thought the other ones were quite nonsensical, with all the big funny hats and the big waving of this. That and the other. I prefer this type of presentation. I hope I hope we just stick with us. No matter what happens as Faras, the virus is concerned. I think it's far more efficient away to have a party pitch their wares to the American people. I tell you that the one thing and I and I think even the president alluded to this. And maybe you know, there's been a disappointment was the way the Democrats did the state by state roll call and kind of doing it as a video travelogue versus kind of the static thing at the Republican Convention in Charlotte. Yes, the Republican convention They have one day where they were actually delicate. Some delegates that were present which is, I suppose, by the way, they did it, but I really think the travel of things kind of a more interesting way than the traditional Illinois the home of Abraham. I stuck with that through. I think Delaware and then I tuned out, but I thought it was unique. You're going to stick around for all 57 states and territories. See you didn't make it to. Ah, Rhode Island makes Rhode Island No, Rick. Nice talking with you, sir. I hope to sit next to you at the Billy goat at some point again. I certainly enjoyed our conversations there. As always. Have you taken the Rick Pearson Ah, memorabilia box out of there for safekeeping. Hers is still in the wall. It's still on the wall. And I know that I know the proprietors will keep it all very safe. Well, I've just been. I've just been Ah. Hand of this note from John Dempsey of Via text message. Please express to Rick that I'm very proud that we are both members of the Willowbrook High School Hall of Fame. That's from John Dempsey. I'm not in the Hall of Fame. I thought you were. I was never. No, No, no. Are you sure? Because when they are not inducted me, I thought I saw a plaque with your name on it. You were two years ahead of me at Willowbrook. They clean those bathrooms regularly, like you know, they're going to wipe that off. After a while there tonight. Can I ask Rika Quick Political question town were in the news time now. So you take a much as you'd like. Okay, Rick. I've often you've written a lot about Dupage County and how it used to be the center because you grew up there. Obviously, it used to be the center of the Republican Party in Illinois. It's not Any more. I've always felt that a lot of the kids who grew up there, move to Wrigleyville and Lincoln Park in the eighties and nineties, and they hit all the bars And then when they got married and wanted to have kids, they didn't want to send them to Chicago Public schools, so they went back. To the suburbs, and they brought their liberal, more liberal politics with them. Do you think that that kind of a thing has a role in the increasing liberalization of the suburbs? Oh, absolutely. I mean, there's no doubt about that is that you know there was a natural desire of kids growing up in the suburbs to want to get out when I couldn't try something different. Viet University or whatever, and you get acclimated to different people, different surroundings, But but certainly that that kind of play of of of getting married, having Children Wanting your kids in a suburban school? Sure, but that brings things that brings a new ideology out there. A cz well isjust also the increasing diversity of the suburbs to which is a significant factor. So you've got that combination of things at play. Send in, Mr Dempsey. Well, yes, I would. I would say that is it But I, Rick, I've always enjoyed your work, and it's good to hear you on wools. Well, well, thank you. And, Ah, it's nice to know that if I made that will ever call of fame. I would just use Groucho Marx and that I'd never want to be a member. But you know what if you're not in there, you should be because if they let me in, you know, think I'll let John didn't you become a member of the Hall of Fame after a substantial contribution? Highest contribution. You did say that to me after I was inducted a couple of years ago, and I intended to sue you for libel, and I never have gotten around kind. I'm just asking a question like it both you you like a reporter. John, Did you make any sort of contribution? Wilbur High school, So you know, then there's ants, questions answered. They were using a brand new basketball, which is really what you don't do, because it was very slippery. And so we're having difficulty I'm handling it. I was six for 12 In the first half. Well, I think Richard maybe 12 points, but he probably shot 25 times to get him in the first and he turned the ball over and they were awful. In the third quarter. We got off to a slow start. Then we got behind camera, maybe by 10 points, maybe 10 or 12 points. But halfway through the third quarter, we began to get back to the cycle of running. And that began to turn the tide. It was like someone took my arm and started shooting informing. Everything started going in, and the guys were playing rebound. We will work and we came back. Rich shot several very key shots. They're a long shot on so that drew them out where I just start driving the ball to the basket and gradually whittled away at it. I ended up having 24 in the last quarter 36 for the second half, and we beat them 76 to 72. "Housing. The heck brother's circus sat like a Garish. Half deflated jellyfish in a field on the outskirts of town. If one ignored the nearby bank and a few other signs of civilization it was like stepping back to a time when the arrival of a big tent in your hometown triggered a summer of wonder gone. Were all those dreams of being a fireman policeman or even a race car driver. Because you now plan to run away with the circus maybe you tame lions walk on a high wire or be shot out of a cannon or perhaps you defy gravity on the flying trapeze or make the audience roar with laughter is a clown special agent. Robert Crawford never had those dreams for as long as he could remember. He wanted to be an agent. He was living a dream. Come true even if it meant occasionally having to see things. He didn't want to see and go places he didn't want to go. He knew what he did mattered and he always face himself in the mirror the next day he couldn't if he were greasy circus clown proffered pulled his crown victoria into a roped off area where the grass had been crudely cut to form a makeshift parking. Lot One good rain and it would become a bog. Imprisoning cars like the La Brea Tar pits did to Animals Crawford. Desdner step from the vehicle does nurse stretched and inhale deeply. Christ what reeks elephants. Crawford said can't mistake. That infernal smell. I'll say worse than cows. Indeed Crawford and desma rarely spoke. They functioned like an old couple knowing what the other was thinking. Sometimes even finishing each other's sentences before they were spoken Crawford could bounce ideas off designer. Who served more as Crawford's conscience than partner over the years the to add wrapped up more cases than anyone from the Milwaukee field office until Schwann Beckon Heller came along? Crawford tucked his notebook under his arm. Schwann Beck called it. Crawford's tiny book of secrets because he was always writing in the book but never showed anybody what he was scribbling. They approached the small handful of onlookers near the big top. Everybody was casually dressed jeans shorts t shirts and a few men without shirts Crawford and designer wearing their dark suits stood out like the bright tent in the middle of a green field on the outskirts of town. The big top and the grounds were surrounded by low fencing. The kind used for festivals and police barricades only painted red and yellow hotdog stand colors as far as the I could see cutting a path through the green grass. Like Godley varicose veins. To the right of the big top was along red stage and a much smaller tent the banners hanging above the stage indicated the heckle. Brother's circus still believed in a good old fashioned side. Show a brave move in politically correct times Crawford thought animals were on display between the tents pacing embarrassed cages and looking defeated a polar bear. The color of nicotine stains panted in the heat is though each breath could be its last. A handful of roused about laborers kept the curious crowds at bay if anyone step too close to the barricades or roped off areas. They'd hold out their hands and shout. Get back you're not allowed beyond this point with all the zeal. Lebanon Elementary School Hall Monitor. The appeared to love their position of perceived power as they scowled at the crowd with disdain. Crawford could tell they really didn't like him desdner but that didn't stop the two from stepping nearer roped off area ready to climb over and entered the sacred domain of the roused abouts and other circus. People a squat man. Who'd probably be homeless. Had He not excelled at shovelling shit and carrying things held out a pair of dirty hands? And said what the Hell you to want. We're just here to look at the animals in dirty little circus freaks like everyone else Crawford said. He was normally much more patient but there was something about the little guy before him that rubbed him like a cat's tongue. Dirty hand said Yeah. We'll just like everyone else. You gotTA stand back Crawford produced his badge and said I don't think we do. I'm special agent Crawford in this is special agent desdner where with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Dirty hands his face went blank. Who's in charge here? Crawford said the heckle brothers didn't exist. They were the brainchild of Simon Heckler. A tall impossibly thin man in his late fifty S. He divided his duties as owner promoter in ringmaster starting the circus in the nineteen seventies but claiming a history that went back to the turn of the century. A consummate showman. Heckler was always on shocking. His way into everyone with all the panache of cut rate used car salesman. So how can I help you? Gentlemen Heckler said to Crawford and designer. The three men were the only people in hecklers cramped. Rv Do you have records of all your stops over the past six years? Why of course heckler said he stood up and cross the RV and a few quick steps unlocking three drawer filing cabinet near one of the windows. He flipped through a notebook stopping on a page titled Dates. Then heckler step back to the small table where Crawford and DESMA. We're sitting handing over a file folder containing all the requested information. Can I get you gentlemen something to eat or drink? Heckler said No. Thank you Crawford said. While Disner shook his head no they never took food or drink from people even if they were ruled out as suspects. What was only a remote possibility when Crawford saw the poster advertising? The circus in Denny's unfolded into something. More as he compared the notes in hecklers files and Crawford's tiny book of Secrets June thirteenth number. One hundred ninety nine Kyle Olson eight years Milwaukee Wisconsin June thirteenth. Two Thousand Stephen Smith Four Years Cincinnati Ohio June thirteenth two thousand one and a Wayne Bridge eight years North Platte Nebraska June thirteenth. Two thousand. Two Sheila SOMMERS six years Memphis Tennessee June thirteenth two thousand three and the Johnson Seven Years Duluth Minnesota June thirteenth. Two thousand four Cyrus Clem Five Years Champagne Illinois. At each site of abduction. The heckle brother's circus was either in or near town. According to hecklers records hecklers elbows rested on the small table. His tiny head nestled in his large hands. He looked comical sitting in the chair. His knees rising up higher than the tables edge. He tapped a size. Sixteen Kenneth Cole on the floor like he was keeping time with a rock band Crawford. Desma were used to people tapping their feet when they were around even innocent people got nervous when the FBI came knocking proffered scribbled. Some quick notes in his book looked up and said Mr Heckler. We're going to need a list of all the people. The circus is employed since nineteen ninety. Nine back in the Crown Vic Crawford ran all the names through the mobile data terminal in just as expected came back with a list of people working for the circus with criminal records circus people. He said desdner nodded his head in agreeance. We've got thirteen people with priors ranging from public intoxication up to two with priors involving kids. Crawford said I hate saying it. But I'm going to bring Swan Beck Heller in on this you scrolled through the list on the MD T in Denver pointed to Mardi Clemens. A thirty one year old with an indecency.

"To Indiana sports talk with Bob level. Welcome back. Everyone level with Greg Doyle from Indianapolis star prior to the break, Greg, we were talking. And I don't know why about falsifying that I'm in, I'm in the athletic hall of fame, which one of the last acts, I did as an athletic, director was create the hall of fame on a little, that's one thing you probably sure you're going to get in, if you create it, Secondly, I know, the right people in the Indian sports writers, sportscasters hall of fame or the more emotional wants for me is a graduate of Plainfield ice school. And I was inducted into the Playfield high school hall of fame back in two thousand twelve I think it was and most recently two thousand eighteen was inducted into the Indiana basketball of fame. So again, lucky God blessed never anticipated doing that. But about you now that you are adopted Hoosier talked about it. You know. Friday nights and Saturday nights during the fall and during the winter in, like right now we have to track championships, and we're in the regionals in baseball. There's this love affair. We have with high school sports in our state, that I would rank against anyone's anyone else's in the country. Yeah. I think twelve states with you on that. And I can not quite quantify I can't put a number to it, but. The way I can tell you what I've seen here is that this state doesn't have pro sports obviously, but like anywhere I've ever lived in Ohio Carolina, and Florida, Texas, Oklahoma states. Several actually unlike those Georgia, this state loves its pro sports. Is athletes like it loves the amateurs, too, because at heart, an amateur sport loving state, and so they transfer the way they feel about Romeo new Albany. And the way they feel about about going to be your that they transfer that to the way they do lock vitual depot. This state. It's a very transparent affection, sincere affection for athletes, the start because the grassroots level is so strong at love the fact that despite the wrong word, but spike, we've got the Pacers on the colts. Here we have not lost our for what really really matters seventeen year olds compete price. Because thank goodness for twenty five years, I've been able to capitalize on that. And, and, and it's kind of fun to, to talk about any, you know, I think one of the reasons to is quite frankly, it matters. I mean, what, what happens in our small towns, and large towns all over the state on Friday, and Saturday nights is a big deal. I mean it matters greatly to the people involved in it translates tuna tire state people in this state. I was told early on the star what I got here. There's a story. I don't remember what it was. But it was it was somewhere else that wasn't in Indianapolis. It was maybe two hours away and I wanted to do it. And I said my bosses. Yeah, but thinking obstructing stake if I write that who's going to cares two hours away. And what the guy told me was hoosiers care about hoosiers. If you it, they will care. And, and I've seen that playoff less five years. So now since case in point with college corner today hour and a half from Minneapolis. I'm not worried about the leading people read that they liked us stuff. I went to LOL Indiana wrote about a, a school that doesn't exist, any board about a gym try to save so they can have, but Getty. Jim. By tons of people, people just like to read about Indiana. That's just that means also about Indiana athletes, high school kid about a couple of players from Evansville. They weren't Intel ship people over this city where the story had offered help to this kid down. Evansville, snaps remarkable people are state care about people about themselves. But about the whole state. Count in rent did his his book about gymnasia in the state of Indiana is one will a whole lot of people have taken look at and bought in and see because we have this fascination with those old, and unfortunately, disappearing gymnasia from days, gone by, yeah. I've never I never heard the word gymnasia. But I like that. It's remarkable how and you know, I m s is a star all by itself. It's just remarkable that, that all these gyms have personalities people care about the gyms. And when the Newcastle Jim is, I mean, that's the star of the show, whatever the game there and do, but the Newcastle Jim is the story. So, yeah, this, this state is unique. I've been lived at eleven twelve minutes. Most of those just don't seem like this quick break. So stay with Greg Doyle came back after this short break on Indiana sports..

Miramontes retired basketball coach Tom Blackwood was larger than life

"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. The San Francisco symphony proudly presents a new season of feature films with live orchestra featuring Jurassic Park law land, Mary Poppins and more. Visit SF symphony dot org slash film for details and information. Miramonte as retired basketball. Coach Tom Blackwood was larger than life about thirty. Former Miramonte tame male basketball players ages thirty to fifty showed up for open gym at their alma mater, intervene data on Friday night. They weren't there to play Hines or relive glory days. Instead, they ran the Olympic drill three men weaves, and the famed Mira Monte muscle layup line after two hours the last thing, these professional sorts with impressive degrees and young families. Did was gathering a circle, but their hands together up high and in unison bellowed one two three together. It was just like they did as high school players every day after school after each practice each time out each game for their team for their school for each other for their coach Tom Blackwood coach thirty eight varsity seasons. Nineteen sixty five to two thousand three and racked up six league titles. A north coast section crown in nineteen ninety eight and six. Hundred thirty eight victories, the six most in state history at the time of his retirement. He was a fiery passionate and personal sort who wore his heart on his sweat suit. Adored his players in the game and worked relentlessly and meticulously at his craft last month. Blackwood died from complications from pneumonia following Panama Canal, spring cruise one of the bay area's most respected basketball coaches was eighty one. The public is invited to pay respects at Blackwood from two to six PM Sunday in a celebration for life at the Claremont hotel on Friday, his former players celebrated their coach and mentor at his second home, the hardwood. It wasn't the prettiest basketball. But we were all there together to honor him said blackwoods oldest son Justin a two time all league player. Most of the guys have very busy lives. So to be their mental lot coach Blackwood meant so much to Chris Kunar, a nineteen Eighty-six all northern California forward who is now a lawyer in Oakland. He loved being a coach it was what he was born to do Kunar said. He was the best in game. Coach I was ever part of he constantly outcoached. Other teams we always exceeded our limitations because of him his team invariably prepared just in Blackwood often would join his dad's scouting teams even against opponents. The matadors were supposed to beat handily. He always respected his opponent. And always had us prepared. Justin said it was a labor of love. He always told me how much he loved going to work just inside. It wasn't just an act he genuinely loved to coach and teach. He never went through the motions Blackwood was born and raised in San Francisco, but moved to other ten he was the three sport star at Menlo Atherton and inducted into the school's hall of fame as an athlete. He was also inducted into Miramonte as I hall of fame class two years ago. Besides his big personality. It was the little things that made him. So successful Kunar said like filling out longhand every scoresheet every game. He total up our averages. And we know exactly where we stood. He did bring on Doug sense to be a score.
