Who Is The Neoliberal Shill Of The Year?

"Couple of weeks ago. I was talking to call him Mortimer. He's college student who runs a competition called the Neo liberal Schill of the year, the wet works. Is you go to the Twitter page at near liberal that's near liberal, but with zero for the O he's put together a bracket kind of like match madness. He's asking people to vote for who they think is the greatest neo-liberal Schill, and Colin told me that Stacy Vinik Smith and cod. If Garcia from the indicator they're going to be in the running, but cut if in Stacey didn't know. And I told khadafy Stacey that I'd love to speak with them in a studio. I didn't say why calling can you hear us? Yes. I can hear you. Colin what's going on can you reduce it south to us? So my name is Colin I am the co founder and executive director of the neo-liberal project. And when new liberalism, basically said was markets are not like an end markets are means to end, we want wanna harness markets to make everyone wealthier to make society more equitable and into make the world a better place, and you run a competition. What does that? So I run the neoliberal Schill bracket, which is an annual competition, which we highlight people that we believe contributed positively to economics and politics in the past year, Iran, the neoliberal Schill bracket. Yes, she'll sounds like not a compliment. She'll is a compliment show me. It's it's tongue-in-cheek. It's means that you shield for position that you stood up. And you said this is what I believe in. This thing is good. Okay. Side of right. And other words she'll for goodness show. That's exactly that's exactly what was Yoda like. Schill for the force iota was a show for the. Stacy I have some good news for you too. Okay. This year, you both been selected the apart the Neal show bracket, really. You both have I've mixed feelings. Committee deliberated Wong over it. And listen to hours of podcasts. And we look through your Twitter's read everything about you. Oh my gosh. So neoliberal is this really loaded word, what does even mean near liberals have been blamed for everything from lowering wages for US factory workers to killing turtles to some near liberalism, Maine's using markets and the government to make a soul, richer and half you to others. It's only made the rich wealthier at the expense of the rest of us. After the break. I'm going to explain what near liberalism, actually means and ask us, stay Cincotta. Neo-liberal Schillt's of the. My name's Quinn's Loboda, and I teach history at Wellesley college Clin wrote a book about the birth of neoliberalism. He told me you can trace the word back to a handful of economics at one conference in France in nineteen thirty eight there was a gathering and Paris called the Walter Lippmann colloquium, and it was there that they that they took they chose this term neoliberalism to describe what they were doing which is trying to rethink liberalism. After the great depression, liberalism, not liberal in the way, we often talk about left wing liberals in the US, you know, people go online to own the libs, but classical liberalism, it's a collective where all those thinkers who like moving against the church after the nice on. David Hume, Adam Smith, David Ricardo. And and then associate those with political beliefs of free trade free markets are the rights individuals to see their self interests that kind of thing they organized a workshop in in Paris. And they all get got together there were intellectuals industrialists journalists politicians, what kind of things they believe in these imbedded groups of liberals there was a vision of an interconnected world economy that they felt needed to be kind of fought for and restored. They believed in the need for conditional free trade. They believed in the need for the free movement of capital over borders as a way to ensure kind of interdependence that would itself hopefully guarantee peace in the long run.

"So I don't know if it's the updates or sending to it or if it's a four gigs of ram finally kicking in and being like, Nope. Not get enough. So. Yeah. There's something going on something you're experiencing it to it's probably time because it's starting to. It's actually starting to drive me nuts, which might also be looking for in ten because I'm ready to like set the pixel three down for a while. I tried to switch to a one plus sixteen out that long ago and something about that phone. I just don't like at all. So I couldn't do that the when we were playing with the phones, of course, you know, they're in kind of a test environment. If you will, but the phones the ten stem, plus they seemed very nice in terms of responsiveness and performance, but you know, with a gigs of ram, or, you know, a terrible story would I would just hope. So that the performance is like unlike anything else, so I'm really looking forward to having a new phone in house because. Yeah. Pixel three it's not keeping up right now. Yeah. There's something going on with this is not not not great. We investigate. Don't worry. We'll investigate people as rigs and the chances pixel three not aging. Well, I would tend to agree with that. And we're only like how many months into the pixel three. A work. I it's not it's not an all it should not be running this poorly. I mean, I opened the camera on it. And sometimes it takes takes forever seconds to like finally, get ready to take shy. It's not it just depends. Like, the reason I own this phone is a lot because of the camera if it takes an hour to open I recently rebooted, and it seems to help. But if I let it go for a few days, it just seems to kind of build up and say, I don't wanna work anymore. I'm tired, Tim. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah. No. I don't heat Samsa. And I I think they make good phones. I just they're not my favorite company. Do they need to be my favorite company? Will that make everyone happy, but just become like a Samsung Schill apologised, maybe that'll get us some review units is that what we need to do. I thought we gotta just suckle on that Samsung t. I will never do that. We'll never do that might have to do that. If we want to get that fold. Yeah. Seeing. Anyway, I guess I look at my job is not being an apologist for company. So if I'm critical, and you maybe that comes off as being overly critical. I'm not gonna apologize for that. So and if people think I'm overly critical Samsung, maybe that's just because they're on top. I don't know if that's the reason. So is there any way we can turn you up a little bit? I feel like I've tried to turn myself up like, oh, okay. Screw it. All go. I'm gonna go way up. Oh boy. Let me step back. Now. How now I'm not. I mean, again, I just need to get really in here. Real quick. I forget who just mentioned it. But they were talking about the software on the pixel three. Oh, yeah. Phil. He's in so much that better software. I it's not the software. I mean, I don't think the software scene is still fine. You know, like, I still like it more so than a custom skinned for Mel g or something when it doesn't perform. Well, when the performance is bad, then you know, the software feels you know, not good. But it's it's not the software look or how acts so anyway. Yeah, I still prefer the pixels off where it's the. It's the performance right now that sucks and the battery life for me, which I think might be because I keep using where watches which I think is destroying the battery life absolute it's hard to tell there seems to be some problems there. So yeah, maybe it is about time to write that. 'cause I it's been it's been it's been getting there where I want to tell the world that the pixel three is pissing me off. So Scott Washington hates to be that guy. But did you? Why factory resetting it like my problem with that is that it would take me a couple hours to reset up my phone..

"Hi, everybody. This is a special edition of the law in blockchain podcast today. We are here with two very special guests to talk about basically, a he, you know, we're giving a huge rundown of everything that's happened SEC related on a ICAO's and tokens and fundraising from the perspective SEC and to really break that subject down. We have Jason got leap. He's partner over at Morrison and Cohen, and he is a a securities litigation attorney. So he's the guy that you would call if you did one of those twenty seventeen ICO's that was not compliant with securities laws. And now, the SEC is subpoenaing you, and we also have Mark boy, Ron a partner at for sure boils who is a trend. Zac, Schill securities attorney, meaning if you have not gone out and done one of these token offerings, but you want to he's the guy that you would call to do it completely from the outset. So guys, thanks so much for taking the time. And joining me today. Great to be here. Anti-serb? Okay. Yeah. Definitely. So let's start off with the Dow report and the Dow report came out in July twenty seventh twenty seventeen and that was you know, the first thing that SEC ever said about all this ice. Yoed madness was at the peak of ICO craziness. Jason can you? Go ahead and just tell us a little bit about what was the Dow report. And what was the significance of what we switch off? Bark. Why don't you take this and all I'll be the color commentator? Sure. Sounds good. So so the Dow report indicated was kind of be the let's put everyone on notice action that the SEC, and essentially what it was was a doubt. So essentially on this organization that did an ideal raised about one hundred and fifty million dollars and later, hacked and. In that. I see oh what whatever one was doing at the time. Which was it reached out to thousands of people to raise money, not really looking at you know, any compliance matters. And it did it all over the world, including in the US. And when the SEC looked at that, the SEC said, okay. Well, is that a security or not? And really the grew kind of the definition of what a security is one thing being an investment contract you determine whether something's investment contract. I look at the how we test without going into the Howie testing details we've done that the kind of walked through exactly whether there's an investment of money and a common enterprise with an expectation of profit from the efforts of others, and especially with the SEC is. Yes, that's exactly what the Dow token was then said, well, then you should have been registered or found an exemption to registration when you sold when you offered and sold those tokens then a little. More on a side note said anyone who's trading these tokens and exchange needs to be registered either as a national securities exchange or exempt from registration has an exchange. And and if you're not then you're going to be liable for trading, and that was again, just the the warning sought that the SEC gays, but it was very general in nature, and I think uncleared many participants. Yeah. Right. Jason do you want to add color? That's right. Thanks, thanks. That was a good view. I think that you know, as as Amy said this happens in Cavite, the height of the twenty seventeen ICO, boom. And as as Mark said, it was really a shot across the bow both towards issuers and the exchanges of I think the SEC went out of their way in the Dow reports to tell all these folks who were issuing tokens on the theory that they were just utility tokens. Therefore, they were not securities that the SEC did not you tokens that way of the SEC cited in old chestnut of a case to say that the reach of the federal securities laws doesn't stop with the the obvious commonplace novel uncommon or irregular devices, whatever they appear to be your also reached if they fifty. Conduct of of the how he test. So I think the SEC is saying to all the ice. Yo participants just because you can call it..
