Scherzer suspended 10 games for sticky substance ejection
"Mets pitcher Max Scherzer has received a ten game suspension for having a foreign substance on his hand, a punishment he immediately appealed. The three time Cy Young award winner was tossed during the fourth inning of Wednesday's game in Los Angeles after his hand in glove were inspected three times by umpire Phil kazi. He said my hands sticky and I said, I swear my kids life, I'm not using anything else. This is sweat and rosin. He's the third pitcher to be penalized for such an infraction since MLB began a crackdown on sticky substances in 2021. Scherzer can pitch until the appeals process is completed. I'm Dave ferry.

"AP sports some Josh Valtteri, a busy night of playoff action Wednesday as we start on the hardwood where Memphis tied it serious with LA one O three 93 in a game two win. The grizz played without star John morant, who has a hand injury, but Xavier Tillman scored 22 in the win. Also out west Denver took a two O series lead topping Minnesota one 22 one 13. Jamal Murray scored 40. In the east, the box tied their series with Miami one 38 one 22 Milwaukee played without Giannis Anton Takuma, who missed with a back injury, but pat Connaughton had 22 points off the bench. On the ice, the Panthers dropped Boston 6 three to even their series at a game apiece. Carolina grabbed the four three win and a two zero series lead thanks to an OT goal by yes perforce. Out west, the stars tied their series at a game of peace, dropping the wild 7 three, the oilers edged LA four two to tie that series. And on the diamond, the mets topped the Dodgers 5 three behind 5 hits from Brandon nimmo. Max Scherzer though tossed from the game after three innings following multiple umpire investigations into a foreign substance on Scherzer's pitching hand. I'm Josh rowntree, AP sports.

"The mets got two run doubles from Jeff McNeil and Francisco Lindor on their way to a 5 to nothing win over San Diego. Max Scherzer struck out 6 in 5 scoreless innings for his second win. I always want to say I want to go deeper. You know, it's tough to say you only want pitch 5 innings. But they did a good job of grinding with me, but it seemed got to win. So anytime the team wins, I'm happy. You Darvish suffered his first career loss against the mets after 5 wins. He allowed 5 runs in 6 and a third innings. The Padres had won three straight. "AP's sports on Tom maryam. Now that the college basketball season has ended, all hoops attention is focused on the NBA, as the pros wind down their regular season. A big final week Eastern Conference match up in Philadelphia as the 76ers kept alive their chance of edging the Celtics for the number two seed with a one O three one O one victory thanks to 52 points by Joel embiid, the third time he's hit the half century mark this season for Doc Rivers team. The man just scored half our points in the NBA game. And I'm biased, but the MVP race is over. The Bucs now have a magic number of ones that clinch the top spot in the east, as Giannis had a triple double and a one 41 28 victory over the wizards for coach Mike budenholzer. We just kind of go about our business. There's, you know, rarely is there a special message or anything. The heat hawks and raptors all one key games while the nets lost as those teams battle to avoid the playing games in the east next week. Out west the warriors and Lakers also had important victories as they look to avoid the west play in games. Baseball, the defending national league champion Phillies became the last team to win a game this season, topping the Yankees four to one, as Kyle schwarber built in the 200th home run of his career. Cool thing, definitely definitely definitely a cool thing, but happy about the win. One day after routing them at ten zero, the brewers nearly duplicated the feat, settling for 9 zero triumph, as Milwaukee belted 5 home runs, three off Max Scherzer, the braves behind rookie Dylan Dodd down the Cardinals four to one. Other NL winners, the pirates, cubs, Diamondback Dodgers, and Marlins, who handed the twins their first loss. The raised hour remain undefeated, knocking off the nationals ten 6. NHL, the Panthers jumped ahead of Pittsburgh and the islanders in the east wild card race, edging buffalo two to one on Matthew coach's third period goal. It just shows the buy in and the commitment we have to make in the playoffs. The devil's damage the penguins hope of a 17 straight playoff appearance with a 5 one victory keyed by Dawson Mercer's hat trick. Tom Arian AP sports.

"So it clearly wasn't that big of an issue for them. But you're right, that is the talk of spring training this far. No matter who you talk to or what you're talking about, the pitch clock comes up first. And you know, the thing that I've noticed, and I think this will be the adjustment for the pitchers throughout the season, is managing that clock with runners on. It's easy to get the ball and go with nobody on, but once you start getting runners on, especially if you got a few of them on, and there's maybe struggling to throw strikes. That's usually the time where pitchers kind of take their walk around the mound and kind of reset themselves. You just don't have that time. And when you start getting into some of these more, the guys who are more mindful about the clock. A la Scherzer, who is going to play, he's going to play mind games with this clock. I can see a few issues popping up because you got pitchers who are extremely smart like that. And now with the, some of these pitchers are calling their own pitches. So they don't need to wait on the catcher. They can call the pitch themselves. I thought Max Scherzer kind of utilized the clock in a way that could be a benefit for all pitchers if they can pull it off. Yeah, he found a way to kind of quick pitch a couple times and there were a couple batteries, not really ready, I think it was against his old team, but he has a nationals, yeah. Yeah, yeah, and yeah, he was not, he's not really been in favor of this. And he's part of the rules committee. I guess he didn't have the deciding vote, but he wasn't in favor. He thinks about everything. I don't know where he finds room in that brain for everything that he thinks. Everything. But it was interesting to see. I think the next time out, they did get him for 7 runs in an inning, so they got him back, but you know he's going to use it to his advantage. And he's going to be smart about it. And he's going to make it a benefit to him somehow. We know he will once the season starts. But we're all in favor of it. I don't know about you, but we have deadlines. Deadlines. So I'm thrilled that we have the pitch clock and the game. I don't know what I was a jinx or what the first two games I went to were three over three hours. I think the Giants. You must have watched the Diamondbacks play. I saw the Giants, they had a few violations and then they made 5 errors. And I think that the late it and the other one was the cubs game, but I saw two, three hour games, but the average has been about two and a half, right? So and with a lot of offense, obviously, particularly in Arizona. So it looks like it's going to shave off a half an hour, which is what they anticipated. Interestingly, the shift ban has not made a huge difference in betting averages in the minor leagues. We'll see if that happens in the majors. I think it probably will make a little bit bigger difference, but the big thing right now is the clock. And that's what everyone's talking about. I did not anticipate that. You as a player, you probably understand more about the clock than I do. I'm only hoping that the game ends in time for my deadline. I'll tell you this. I think first, back to make sure there's no doubt he's been scheming about how to manipulate these rules from the time he figured out they were coming. The other thing is, and I'm not sure what the actual reason is. Offenses up across the board in spring training versus last year around this time. And you could credit it to the ship, you can credit it to the clock. I personally have noticed the ball is in play more. It is in play. There is something going on. That dead time that we had been experiencing for God knows the last 7, 8, 9, ten years. Is shrinking. There is something happening. And I think it has a lot to do with pitchers not being able to regenerate by taking all the time to kind of rebuild their stamina and max effort. You got to get the ball, you got to glow. You got to throw. I think the pitcher's stamina is going to be tested to have to keep going and not be able to take their time in between. And I think ultimately the effect of the rule has been exactly what Major League Baseball one. Quicker games that's been shaved down, at least so far to about 25, 30 minutes, but there's been more action. The three common outs, right? We were talking walks, home runs, strikeouts. You're just not seeing it all kind of line up the way it was where you'd have 7 minutes of nothing happening. That's not good for the spectator. I think they're the ones who are going to benefit from it the most. Right, that's what they were attending to do is help out the spectator and have more action and I think that's been the real problem and the reason the games have gone up to over three hours and they have been able to get them down in so many strikeouts and walks. You know, you know, it was a day, you know, many years ago and the best pictures would strike out one per inning. Now that's an average, you know? Just so many strikeouts. And more walks, and that part of that is the analytics and people realizing the value of the walks and the on base percentage. But, you know, part of that is the pitcher is having just more ability to throw it hard. And you know, the game changed and they needed to make an adjustment. And they did make an adjustment and we'll see how it all plays out. Maybe they'll need to make another adjustment next year, but it is refreshing to see more balls in play and we want to see fewer, fewer strikeouts and fewer walks, or at least I do. Yeah, you know, it's interesting in that one sequence or yesterday where Scherzer ends up quick pitching the guy. I think people missing that is that max's sacrificing maybe pinpoint control for kind of hurrying the hitter up. That ball ends up being right down the middle. But because the inner is not ready, max doesn't have to pinpoint command that baseball. He knows he's got the clock on his side, the hitter's not ready. I can throw this ball pretty much wherever I want and have some success, and that's exactly what happens. And I bring that point up because that's exactly what baseball wants, right? They want the ball to be somewhere where a hitter can hit it. And have a chance to put it in play. And I think the rule is going to be great. We're going to get a chance to see it over the course of this season. I'm sure there will be some blow ups, especially if you got pictures being able to manipulate the clock the way max has done and so far spring. There's going to be some explosions. There's no doubt about it. Yeah, probably so. Next is there will be must watch TV. I like the way the word max effort too. That was a good part. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, no doubt.

"We talked about the line up before birth. Break their. Now we're going to talk about the picture and the picture to me will Fleming, is the concern of the Red Sox, both in the starting rotation, and the depth of the bullpen, I would say, the depth of the bullpen has been very good to spectacular at times and I don't think very few pictures in baseball can put out the numbers that Matt Barnes is put out this year. He's got, he's Fourteen and sixteen in save opportunities 2 and 1/2 63 era but the e r. A and as a reliever is, you know, is not as relevant as the same opportunities and his Whip and you know our accounts to walks and my concern though is with the starting rotation and what I'm Bloom can do to address it. Yeah I mean I think there's no question to move his needed before 6 because of some of the lack of depth and I think this is this is about where we thought they would be on balance at the beginning of the year, they were the story of the Season 2. Starting rotation was fog. Months because everyone pitched. Well, basically, after Garrett Richards, got over a hiccup for the first month, he started dealing pivetta has been a revelation until he gave up the four. Home runs to these Blue Jays a couple of days ago. I think Marty in Paris is Marty in Paris. Right. And you know who he is and he's had a couple of bad ones in a row, but he's also very valuable in that. He comes to post every five days and he generally is going to get you five or six pack test these days. If you're asking me, especially with bullpens being asked, and relied upon to face more situations earlier in games, you've got to get Beginnings. If you can get the Innings, you'll live with believe it or not a 4 and 1/2 to 5 e r a no question. And I think the Red Sox that was their formula and everybody gave them five or six and everybody was about a three 5 before 5, you're going to win a lot of games that way they need. Eddie Rodriguez to figure it out a little bit. Who knows what's going on with him? He's just not the ace that they need him to be. Whether it's you know, still kind of some lingering. Effects from the myocarditis or are just a year off away from pitching and not having the arm strength that he normally did..

"Else ever at Fenway. He is an absolutely fabulous left fielder in front of that wall, The Monster at Fenway Park. What you do on the road? You know you could you could convince me that you could maybe mix it up and I liked it for do go, Hernandez wage, rentfrow look left to right. It's very encouraging to me. What Bobby dalbec is started to do? I mean he's choked up on the Baddie, short in the swing, Alex Cora thinks definitively that watching the Astros at Fenway and down in Houston for seven games. In a two-week, stretch changed his offense and I have a hard time disagreeing with him, because I think the approach of the altuve's Korea's Alvarez thousand fragments of the world. Is eye-popping lie. Beautiful to watch, and they don't try to hit the ball park ball out of the ballpark every time and yet they just do it anyway. And I think that that's such a good approach for guys, like a call back and rent, row and Hunter. Renfrow has been one of the stories of this season. I think, I mean, I think that I am Bloom has been proven to be a very Savvy Personnel, man, and what Renfro is done in sports, their wage. Have been games. And there was a week or two there where the Red Sox would not have stayed above water, had they not gotten the contributions they got from Hunter Renfrow, when JD and Xander and Endeavors went kind of underground a little bit. He's been hugely important but yeah, you need you look at these great lineups Mike and whether it's so we're it's recency bias. I know that cuz we've seen them all lately but Houston is awesome because they got nine good hitters and so are the Blue Cross and they don't even have George Springer. Yet you need guys to support and be there because Bogaerts Devers Martinez, cannot do it every day. And I do think there are enough pieces here in different ways to get hot. If you just get four or five guys who are swinging it in nine. I think that's a good formula to, you know, get near that hundred win, mark with the with the offense that.

Red Sox Beat

"And I think there's still some work to be done by the way and I think the Red Sox think that too. I mean, the power numbers are eye-opening and you know, he went on to this Olympic qualifying team and everybody for Mike Scioscia to Todd Frazier said he was basically the most impressive player on the team and he's an impact player at the big league level today. And I think that's true, but I also think the Red Sox are being very smart and high in bloom believes that so deeply in the process of development and it's pictures, not not skipping wage. Steps and not skipping developmental levels. But with a position player, like like Jared Duran, the defense does need Improvement and if you look a little deeper, the strike out, numbers are still a little bit alarming. Some of the context of can be a little bit of a problem but there's no question. They have a real special player, the question just becomes when is the right time to do it and and you know I think let's say the Rays went and crazy and and watch the Red Sox found themselves seven or eight games back in in a couple of weeks. Maybe maybe then you push a little harder and say we gotta try this and figure this out. I don't think they're there yet. I think in some ways that you play better and you're above expectations early in the season, gives you a little time to be patient and to let Jeremy and struggle down there. Have a slump come out of it because you don't really want to learn how to struggle a major league level. We've seen so many examples of how that is just not the ideal way to do it so there's no he's close. I think it could be any time now, frankly. But I don't think it's like Alex Cora and high and bloomer. In conversations every day about is, today the day that Jared Duran comes up, I would say, sometime around the All-Star, break would be a fair marker to say. Let's, let's go see what this kid can do. All right, Ryan Weber was recalled, excuse me. He was sent down DF 8 on Monday. And speaking of one of the players that I think had some trouble, not initially, certainly initially, he had an incredible power surge, Michael Chavis was recalled on Monday, but then once the pictures and once the organization's caught up to Chavis home, really fell off quite a bit now is, do you think he's ready to start to maybe have that second or third surge? Where he's adjusted on his own made? And the coaching staff and the organization is worked enough where he can become a real part of contributing in, you know, as we look towards the second half of the season, I think that's to be determined. I mean, I think Michael, I think we suck. In baseball, World want everyone to be a perfect player because you get used to Xander Bogaerts and Rafi, Devers, and Vladimir Guerrero and shohei ohtani and not, everybody is that and down there is no question that Michael still needs to work on catching up to high fastballs..

Plus every day I get to drive to Fenway Park so I will not. You will not hear me complaining for 1. Second on this pot, you will only hear me complaining. It's a it's a real honor, will you are a good sport now, you have minor league roots and you can appreciate it, appreciate what it is for an organization to have tremendous depth. That is ready to contribute, right? You know, you have a very good comprehensive understanding, given your work at various levels of the minor leagues and now at the major league level part of hind blooms charge from ownership was to rebuild that depth but keep the majors.
