Chiefs Land Pro Bowl OT Orlando Brown Jr. From Ravens in Trade
"News today with the chiefs and the ravens orlando brown junior aka zeus junior traded from baltimore. He'll be traded on draft night. I guess to. Kansas city has changed for a bunch of draft picks and on top of schefters report. Patrick mahomes just puts up five smiley face emoji now. They've got joe. Tony kyle long austin blythe and they're probably going to get the rhondda rene tardif back so we thought they might sign eric fisher down the road. That'd be only because of an injury when he gets healthy but orlando brown junior one to play left tackle. Obviously ronnie stanley gets all the left. Tackle money there. So and the run when he's healthy cell orlando brown junior change for the chiefs. Pick number thirty one and a couple of other Picks in this year next year's draft.
Chicago Bears' tweet makes it clear that Andy Dalton is 'QB1'
"Can we say the bears would have been better off keeping mitchell trubisky. Can we or candy. I'm going to say we can. And just in general with all the decisions that ryan place makes. They're probably all wrong. I would probably lean toward the other way just when you look at it on his face. Andy dalton is a lesser player mitchell. Trubisky we saw that with the qbr. The two guys last year. Don't have a bunch of weapons down in dallas still. Couldn't find a way to be able to get it done so that the bears earned were spot quarterback wise than they were. I would agree with you. What is confounding in every conceivable way and it is magnified by chicago. Bears social media yesterday on twitter. The bears posted that last night. That picture you see there of dalton and a bears uniform with a message. Qb one and adam schefter quote tweeting it by saying it's a statement from the bears which indeed it
Chiefs release Eric Fisher, Mitchell Schwartz
"Are very lucky. Chris canty that we have breaking news. Because otherwise i would be sitting here yelling at human. They are yelling at me to go immediately to diana. Rossini lonzo has breaking news out of kansas city. Diana what are we have. Yeah adam schefter. Just broke at the kansas city chiefs have now made to gigantic cuts. Both of their tackle. Starting left tackle eric fisher and right tackle jeff schwartz. These two are key players on this offensive line. We know that they didn't play in the super bowl. Obviously eric fisher tours achilles right before so he was unable to play in it and jeff fisher was really working hard. Excuse me jeff. Shorts was really working hard to come back and he said on instagram himself that he was going to be one hundred percent ready to go for this upcoming season. We talked last week all about this week. Being a really difficult week we called it. A massacre at least one coach told me that. And that's what it is. Look at what. The kansas city chiefs are doing off of line that we knew were struggling in the super bowl because they didn't have those two guys no longer on the team. Now
Big money brings bigger expectations for Dak
"You finally needed me. Dan Orlovsky, the great analyst for the Mothership. NFL Live continues daily throughout the entire off season at four Eastern on ESPN, Catch Dan with Adam Schefter. Marcus Spears, meaning times Laura Rutledge, four. P. M. Eastern daily on ESPN. Dan. Thanks for joining us. Did the Cowboys have a great day? Yesterday? The Cowboys did not Jack Prescott did Jack press cop Doc Prescott. His family did. But this is a big time swing and miss for the Cowboys. I think that they took a calculated risk. You know, they tried to be patient and patient and patient and didn't want to do something like the Rams and the Eagles did. But man, that is a ton of money to give that Prescott What should the expectation Level B for cowboy fans this year? This year. It Luis, You're stuck in second round of the playoffs. Sniffing your NFC championship game, You know, like here's Here's. This is what my comment is with this, and it's the old saying too much is given much is expected. This is why I was very cautious of giving Dak Prescott a ton of money or second most quarterback money. It's going to impact your football team and we can't snow sit here and say, Well, he's really good. But the expectation status, saying the expectations have to be elevated. Not only individually Hey, what are left tackles out. We still have to win the game on the road against the New York Jets because they stink or when we don't have a Mark Cooper. We still got to play good at the position because you're supposed to be And a difference maker. When it comes to the finances. It's a bad division. I still have to wait to see what happens in Washington at the quarterback spot. If they got a quarterback that I thought was a good player arrived. Patrick I think that I would favor them to win the division because I think Dallas still has issues defensively Offensive
Dallas Cowboys Reach Multi-Year Deal With Star Quarterback Dak Prescott
"Salary cabin number for two thousand and twenty one is going to be twenty two point two million dollars all right now. Head dak prescott. In franchise tag again this will happen in a procedural sense but had to cow tried to go at this with dak prescott on the franchise tag for the two thousand and twenty one season. We've talked about this a number of times. That value would have been thirty. Seven point seven million dollars so the fact that the cow is now have him onto the books. We're talking about the value that is on the books in the books. However you want to look at the books whether they're e books or physical books whatever the case may be that value is now twenty two point two million dollars now. I know that we have all said some things about the dallas cowboys but they are not complete dummies. They surely budgeted for the franchise tag value. Because let's be honest. They came about twenty four hours. We think you know. Close to having the actually placed the franchise tag and maybe carried out with that prescott. So the cowboys have room for the franchise tag at the very least so you look at that quake matt that adam schefter was kind enough to do for you. That is fifteen point. Five million dollars that the dallas cowboys suddenly have because they've got this long term deal with that prescott. This is something that we've been saying for two years now. If you do this you can. You can kick this down the road. You can prorate it you can extended you can whatever term you want to put on it. You can spread the impact of the deal out of the signing bonus of the overall guaranteed money out over the lives of the contract so it doesn't hit you all at once. That's the one killer about the franchise tag is that it is fully and completely guaranteed in franchise tag is a one year deal so the value of it last year and dak prescott was on the tag for thirty one point. Four million dollars. The two thousand twenty dallas cowboys had to absorb that value all at once and they would have had to have done it again. Here in two thousand and twenty one but because they have adjusted that they now have fifteen and a half million dollars that they were seemingly budgeting for dak prescott that now they can apply to different areas. Maybe it is a safety. Maybe it's a defensive end. Maybe it's a defensive tackle. Maybe it's you know an offensive tackle. But they want swing tackled death whatever the case may be. We know that the cowboys obviously hold the tenth overall. Pick in the draft. They could go a number of different directions there. They wanna cornerback kayla farther patrick's retain do wanna take one of the tackles and rashawn slater as all this is. This is setting up and this is an important thing. I want you to hear me here and watch me here. You cannot waste this money. If dallas cowboys the whole point and getting this done with thac prescott besides obviously establishing having the best player on your team for the foreseeable future the point in doing this is to alleviate the salary cap space now. And i don't like the term when now if you watch us often you know that but you look state of the nfc east. It is by sudha. I mean the philadelphia. Eagles are a disaster. The new york giants doping daniel jones is legitimate. The washington football team has a great team but is void of the most important position of the game and a quarterback. Maybe they'd get somebody this cycle as we all expect quarterbacks to change teams at a higher rate than usual but the case in point is at the dallas cowboys are now. We're going to see this all day on tuesday by the way and we'll talk about it of course but they're going to be overwhelming favorites to win the nfc streit and you think about the conference that they plan is really a contender in the nfc. And i mean that with all due respect to the reigning champion tampa bay buccaneers. But you've got the bucks you've got the green bay packers and then who scares you. May maybe the rams you believe in matthew stafford but the point is thinking about the afc. I mean the. Afc has the bills and the ravens and the chiefs and the titans and the steelers and the browns. I mean you could go. A number of different ways. Did the colts have carson. Wentz ends up getting his act together and so the cowboys play in the weakest division in the weaker conference and so now they have this opportunity to really kind of take their future in the here and now they have fifteen and a half million dollars that they weren't necessarily planning on having use it and if they don't use it it is all for not so i mean we are all imploring the dallas cowboys to ultimately use this salary cap space. This is a very very very luxurious gift. That they now have been afforded that they didn't previously have so shattered of course to the dallas cowboys. Let's see here let's move. I'm i wanna talk of course about the bonus the dak prescott because well. It's stupid large. I mean it's amazing. Dak prescott has now the largest signing bonus in the nfl. You look at joe flacco. Once upon a time. Got forty million. Dollars matt ryan forty six and a half. Remember if you're on the fence about this value. We've talked about this before as well. Matt ryan became the first quarterback in nfl history to average over. He had thirty but to average at least thirty million dollars per year with his new contract that he signed with the atlanta falcons in two thousand and eighteen. That was three years ago. Dak prescott signed a four six year. Deal whatever you wanna call it. That was three years ago. They matt ryan signed that he was the first quarterback to hit the thirty million dollars a year. Mark prescott just hit forty but the reality and we've been saying this forever is that there are so many deals coming around the bend. Josh allens gotta get paid. Lamar jackson's gotta get paid. Baker mayfield's got to get paid extra calories. He's going to get paid the year after that. It's going to be time for joe burrow to finally get paid and when all of those players get paid this forty million dollars a year. Mark the dak prescott got this one hundred twenty six million dollar. Total guaranteed is sixty six million dollar signing bonus all these things that are currently the top of the nfl. The most in nfl history. That's the verbiage in determining that you're hearing associated with this and it's all literally true but it's all going to get pushed down because all of these players on this list. Joe flacco matt ryan matthew stafford at fifty million signing bonus. Aaron rodgers fifty. Seven and a half russell wilson not going to be a dallas cowboy now by the way sixty five million dollars. Dak prescott topped that all of these quarterbacks in all likelihood we'll top that that's the reality of the nfl things are always moving in one direction. It is up
Seahawks are releasing defensive end Carlos Dunlap
"And the latest comes from Seattle. Adam Schefter reporting that defensive and Carlos Dunlap will be released today by the Seahawks. 32 year old was acquired from Cincinnati via trade this past season. With the Seahawks, sending offensive lineman BJ Finney and 1/7 Round pick to the Bangles. Ironically, the Bangles just released Finney last
Jalen Hurts speaks on the Carson Wentz trade for the 1st time
"Jalen. Hey how you doing. Hey how are you doing. I can't complain of what is jalen hurts. Doing in his downtime here getting ready for two thousand and twenty one season jalen. There's thorough just grinding down in Spending some time with family and friends But you know. Prepare myself for for the upcoming season and working with the same trainer that train. Patrick mahomes bobby stroup right. Yes sir yes sir. I'm a lot of good work out with him. Not a lot of you know. The guy has a lot of knowledge and i. i just wanted to be a part of it. You know. I trust them So working liquids debut as well. So i'm excited than a lot of good work in a lot of productive working. You've worked with. Quincy every the quarterback coach in the past right. But bobby is new edition correct. Well i've I was with bobby a little bit. Maybe for like a few days Relationship with him. You'll need to take down but technically guy you know. They're from toddler. East texas i'm from houston texas but i felt like it was the right time to go with them. So yeah what's your life for a texas guy to live and work in philadelphia. It's a bit different. You know run-up. I'm used to obviously the weather being different Humidity being crazy and the weather's just been unpredictable. Weren't silly you know you kinda can engage it off of what time of the year it is with. What's going gonna get everything a little bit closer closer. North bennett is down. South texas louisiana alabama mississippi area but It's fun it's fun. it's been phillies. Did i remember hearing this year. Jalen that you played in the snow for the first time is that accurate Going going into the green bay. Where my i now. I mean we're playing and you know they told me in there and you know we're having fun and playing bob dole. Whatever you know we got some momentum going on the sideline and then I see. I see like you know it's cold. And obviously it was coco. And i see snow coming from this guy. You know little flurries. But i call this a no not you know it was. It was not me at the moment was real cold. Some somebody never done before. And what was your reaction inexperienced playing in it like out. You know they have so much stuff down there to keep you on. The bench is being more Different things that they can do to accommodate for the weather. How cold it is so. I really couldn't tell. That's why i was so surprised. Then feel that cold. But when i saw the snow coming down it is cold. So the fundus upon store. How will you remember your first season with the eagles jalen. I think i remember that a remembered as a true learning experience. Like anything and everything goes it up Kind of going through and deal with i think Grateful for an opportunity of a binge after to the eagles in an awesome being in the position and then now but nonetheless a lot a lot to learn from for me you know. I'm very not very critical of myself and i hope my myself to the highest of high standards when it comes to Doing things the way you know. I wanna dog it. So not that i can learn from from that first year About a good a lot of bad. I'm assigned to improve and Learn from los angles and hopefully Especially thanking to so when you look back and try to learn from those things what do you hope to improve on your second season in the nfl. You know what they are going to realize and you hear it all the time and how important consistency is today consistent and everything that i do you know. And then there's there's always room for improvement in every in every asset every part of the game whether that's You know on the field stuff off the field stuff. You know how you league lead different people differently. You know everybody communique different and the leader of the football team as a quarterback so Just doing every being consistent in everything that i do Res progressives completed leading Communicate relationships all of those
Washington releases Alex Smith following quarterback's Comeback Player of the Year season
"Quickly. I have some news that has just come in from adam. Schefters twitter feed. And it's not a surprise but the washington football team has released alex smith. Who was this year's choice for the nfl's comeback player of the year overwhelmingly. So he has been released. They save almost fifteen million dollars cap space so in an off season. Where does shawn watson might be available. Dak prescott might be available. Russell wilson might be available louis. How interested do you think teams will be alex smith as he becomes available now. I think alex is a tremendous mentor. I think alex would be a tremendous bridge quarterback at this point in time these people are going to really try and connect the dots between him in chicago given his familiarity with matt nagy and that system that they run in chicago like it was in kansas city. I don't think that's a that's the option that they're looking for but look. I have nothing but infinite. Respect for alex smith at any team would be better served having him in their in their quarterback room for sure.
Bill Barnwell Breaks Down NFL Quarterback Moves
"So bill. We gave you do the math a whole month away from this podcast before our dependency bio chemically kicked back in so i just hope the last four weeks have been everything that you personally needed. Pablo got on many vacations. I turned around my life after six months of just staying watching football now. Bill barn wells weekly column on. Espn plus and he hosts the bill. Barnwell show podcast realistically. I have done something that few human beings have accomplished. I managed to get one pack of moments from nba. top shot. yeah. We share that same addiction. You are far deeper into the game than me. I realized over the weekend. I just want there to be an nfl top shot. Because i feel like that's going to happen right. It has to. i mean. Imagine the things you could do. You could send somebody that colts fake punt from years ago or or if you wanted to try some of your friends. Perhaps you could send the russell wilson interception from the nfl top shot to a certain person with the initials m used to host the show. Yeah just randomly picking in that example in those initials absolutely but bill. We dragged you back here. Speaking of a certain quarterback who threw a certain interception emotionally terrorized ours. Because this is an especially dramatic. Nfl offseason. they're all these big name. Quarterbacks who want out of these relationships that seemed from a distance at least pretty broken and russell wilson and the seahawks. I need to ask you about that. I because i know russ isn't feeling respected by head coach. Pete carroll reporting. I know that carol wants to revoke all of his cooking privileges. We've heard now. Russell wilson like storming out of meetings which is kind of funny to imagine like door very lightly slamming so this particular soap opera. What is all of it. Feel like to you much ado about nothing really. I mean i just i. Just don't buy russell wilson drama. I go back to his contract. Negotiations this is the same player in the same agent. Who wants imply that he would leave football in the middle of these negotiations entering the final year of his deal to try professional baseball. Where russell wilson once for the iraqis and the organization he hit to twenty eight in the low minors before returning to college football. It was not a realistic threat. But if that way does he want the seahawks to give him more helpful on the offensive line which has been sort of the crux of his public complaints. Yeah i do believe that. And i think that the seahawks could benefit from giving him more help. They relied on russell wilson to run his way out of sacks and free pressures from unblock players which has worked for that stretch buddies also taken a ton of hits cuss russell. Wilson plays the way he plays. He is going to take a ton of sacks regardless of how good his protection is the best way honestly pablo to get him. Hitless frequently would be to run the ball more. Which is the exact thing. Russell wilson was trying to get the seahawks do lasso last offseason. So there is something here but i very much doubt that leads to a trade. My favorite thing about this new cycle i think is that russell wilson has relayed via his wrapped. Adam schefter that he is not demanding a trade but if he were there are these four specific teams that he'd like to go to the bears. The cowboys the saints. The raiders does any of that make sense to you know not at all i mean the classic russell wilson tropez that ciara was going to pick teams him in new york in los angeles which this is the opposite that list even the teams he chose are so strange. Maybe you'd argue that. He chose teams with great offensive. Lions triumph of the seahawks. But the trade doesn't really add up the same. Stu have agreed offensive line. But they're like sixty five million dollars over the salary cap. The cowboys have a great line. Whenever everyone's healthy but they also have back prescott. that's not gonna work either the bears. I don't understand. They don't have a great line or any cap space. That one makes no sense to me on either. Level the raiders. Maybe are the most interesting and plausible candidate of the bunch with a great line and some cap space to work with. But when i think about jon. Gruden as raiders coach. He wants quarterbacks to do exactly what jon gruden wants on every single play. I don't think any if it really adds up to meaningful trae dialogue. I don't think there's going to be a conversation between the seahawks and another team about trying to make a trade for russell wilson work but this is twenty twenty one anything is possible
Eagles trade Wentz to Colts for 2 picks
"This morning, Adam Schefter tweeted. Philadelphia has agreed to trade Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2021 3rd round pick and a conditional 2022 2nd round pick that could turn into a first league sources tell at Mort Report and me and a tweet. There you have it. Carson Wentz is going to the courts. He's going to reunite with Frank Reich, and he's got a chance to turn his career around.
Houston Texans president Jamey Rootes resigning after 20 years with franchise
"Lot of focus on what's been going on in Houston this off season. Wednesday. We learned team President James Roots, resigns ESPN Insider Adam Schefter today their president, Jamie Roots, resigned, effective immediately, and I think any time there's any news with the Houston Texans People want to know. How does this impact or read out with two Shaun watching, and I think the issue here is that there are people in that organization in and around the league who have questions about the direction of that franchise. Jamie Roots clearly was one of them. He was a part of the search process that basically blacked him out. Discounted and ignored the words of the search firm that the organization paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for and in the end, when with Nicolas Ariel, who obviously is a qualified candidate, no issue with Nick Osario, it's the way the organization ran the search and ultimately moved in the end. I think Jamie roots is uncomfortable with that he was uncomfortable with the direction of the franchise. Ultimately, after 20 years with the organization in which he made all their big business decisions, he decided to resign from his post, which I think is a reflection off the way that some people in that organization and some people around the league view that spot right now,
Carson Wentz would prefer to leave Philadelphia Eagles, but team is not looking to trade him, per report
"This is the saga that we've been covering forever right carson. Wentz coming off terrible year. You know that he got benched. You'll see all the numbers and it was just awful but when they made the choice to fire the coach and bring in frank. Reich's assistant nick serianni. We figured well at the end of that is coming back in philly. Adam schefter yesterday said maybe not so fast wants. Leave the franchise. That's why the trade still employ. This is a real and this was made up and just because he would like to be moved doesn't mean he will be if i had to guess i would guess he is traded. That'd be my guess. Okay at some point this off season but again. they're not just going to train them just. They're not looking to get rid of him. They're not shefty. I shefty speech. The world listens and dan. Orlovsky we've not had you on this yet today. What is your reaction to this idea that it seems at least from the outside like the eagles have probably done just about everything he might have wanted and he still wants out agree with them. Schefter i think carson wentz wants away from philadelphia for a long time. People thought well he wants away. From doug peterson i think he wants to wait from the city. I think he wants away. From the organization. Greenie do speak so loudly. I need not hear what you say. And we live in a time frame and society where it's the easiest time ever to make some form of statement and carson had two opportunities to do that his first head coach in the. Nfl was fired. He had the opportunity to post something on twitter. Post something on instagram. Saying you're my. I said coach ever in the nfl while it didn't work out the way we wanted to for the long run. I'm forever thankful for our time together. Well then we move on and they hire a head coach. Nick serianni another opportunity to make some form of statement some form of. I'm looking forward to the future. New new beginnings fresh start excited to work with you and nothing for those two reasons. I'm sitting back and going carson. Wentz doesn't want to be in philadelphia. Maybe it wasn't as tight to doug peterson and it is tied to the organization and what has transpired over the past couple of weeks past couple of months. I can tell you this. I had a coach call me last week and spend twenty minutes on the phone with me asking about what my thoughts were with carson. Wentz the good and the bad why. It went south this past season because they've got a high level of interest in them and i think two teams. That should be calling our indy in chicago. Both of them have a win. Now defenses and both of them have some form of a tie in the past with carson wentz being frank reich and indian john d. filipo in chicago so i agree with this Shefty i think it's more likely. He gets traded than not.
Chiefs' barber tested positive for COVID-19
"To my sources at this particular time, it appears 20 of the Kansas City Chiefs almost went to get here cuts on Sunday from Barber, who had Cove it now they've taken precautions, and the truth of the matter is that everything is going to be fun. I saw Schefter tweeted that he's like that. It's he's like it's all okay. They were They were they were they? What was I gonna look it up? Because I looked at it, and it was like, Wait, wait, wait. This doesn't sound is safe as you're making it sound and, uh, did you get so you guys saw? That s so what's the tweet? Well, let's say it's easy to find if you didn't have 700 tweets a day. Yeah, there were over 20 Chiefs, players and staffers, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes schedule Sunday to get a haircut with the barber who tested positive for Cove. It Her sources. Of course. The chief's acted Wisely and aggressively and pulled the barber mid cut once his test results came in. Now, I would have to say If if they were that weighs an aggressive, they probably should have waited until his test results came back to even start the haircuts. You
Kansas City Chiefs' barber tests positive amid haircuts, sources say
"If you heard about this story that a barber that a lot of the chiefs to and have been to this week because they all get haircuts getting ready for the super bowl right Tested positive for covid. Oh no at that point. He had only cut to players hair but was scheduled to do. Patrick mahomes next. Wow for they. If that. If if i and god forbid i hate to even put this out there but since it's not happening i'm gonna wanna have schefter schefters words okay. There were only there were over twenty chiefs players and staffers including the home scheduled sunday to get a haircut with the barber per sources. The chice acted wisely aggressively. Pulled the barber mid cut wants his test. Results came in chief senator. Daniel kilgore was mid haircut. When the barber was notified he was covert positive kilgore and the barber were both wearing masks. So that's good. Yeah but kilgore had to stay home this week but his tested negative and can return saturday fly with the team and play. Sunday's patrick mahomes a bubble like patrick. Mahomes don't leave your room till it's time to go to the game if this if he would have given this barbara would have given patrick mahomes kovin. Would that be the biggest sports story of all time boy. It would be right up there that a that. An mvp quarterback in his prime was knocked out of the super bowl by covid nineteen. Yeah that would be
Are Raiders plotting to trade Derek Carr, pursue Deshaun Watson?
"According to a report out of las vegas. The raiders are taking calls on quarterback derek. Carr it's suggested in the report that it could potentially be the beginning of a three team trade to get to shawn watson in a raiders. Uniform shannon vegas. Try and trade for sean top. Five top seven quarterback. I think you should be in the running for watson. Skip there something that's been on my mind and the bother me last week. I called you the night before and told you that has some information about about jon. L. came on the show and they're about six thirty top of the show. I said to shawn watson my sources tell me shawn watson has ashby the texans for trade and this is not. This is just being broke but this could ask a couple of weeks ago now. Adam schefter reported twenty minutes out to me that show watson to ask for trade basically saying that he's breaking the news which at and i said what transpired that he wants to go to the jets. He have a fondness for robert solid. Everybody keeps saying jason this and that so what they're trying to do. They're trying to add egg pool pork to a hamburger. That i've already made is still a hamburger. Youth and economists tried to add to the story back to this absolutely skilled. I don't this report came from chris. Simms yes okay. What transpired skill. And you said this yesterday. When he was when he was talking to the press conference the player he said the player of the the new england syria away to new caserio said the player yes he must have realized how it sounded his head because he started saying shaw desha. It's too late. You everything off his thing and our to our for everything to my agent day google level but anyway skill yes they should skip. I just got always got the impression. That jon gruden wasn't as far the derek carr. I don't know what it is. I could be totally wrong but it. Just something about yeah. He's good but i don't really know if he can take me to where i need to go. I am making ten million dollars. The i do have one hundred dollar contract. And we haven't been to the play. So i'm as you can be viewed as a failure skill for thirty million dollars ain't got nothing to show for it. And there's a lot of have to do with his defense. They print his lands. Twenty fourth and thirtieth last three years are good bradley the off season he so you look at it. They're waller. it's a top three tight end. They got josh jacobs. Who made the pro bowl again. If i'm not mistaken hillary rodham. He nice receiving corps offensive. Line is solid. Yeah john was. It will be a major player for them. And in this offense again. It's the west coast system skip. It'd be foolish not to try
Chiefs place Robinson, Kilgore on COVID-19 list
"This coming down. Just moments ago. Adam schefter saying the chiefs placing center daniel kilgore and wide receiver demarcus robinson on the reserve covid nineteen list due to close contact. You see diana receive their. She's been covering the chiefs all week long diana. They didn't address this. Kobe news because it came up right at the end of media day. But you were talking to all of them throughout so tell us what you learned. Yeah well. I gotta give a lot of credit to this. Kansas city chiefs team who are in kansas city missouri. Twelve hundred miles away from where the super bowl action is all going down starting today and these guys were having a lot of fun they were bringing the energy this virtual so it's very hard to have a lot of energy and to have fun but they did a really good job laura. Let's start with the most important thing i learned. And that's andy. Reid is going to have a double cheeseburger waiting for him at the end of the game. If they win if you remember he had one last year. That was the meal he ate after. They want kidding. That's not the most important thing but something that did stand out with. Patrick mahomes was talking about. When tom brady met up with him after the afc championship game. Two years ago remember the chiefs lost at arrowhead and our jeff jolly was actually down on the ground and he was the one who spotted this. He saw tom. Brady walk over to a security guard and asked to talk to. Patrick mahomes the security guard. A little surprise like okay. I'll figure it out for you. Well he was able to find him a little room in the equipment room. And that's when they brought patrick in radiant ham had a conversation. Take a listen to what patrick learned about it for me. I think it was important because it showed that. I was doing things the right way as a young quarterback in this leading You you gotta go in he or early trying to put it in the time and the work But you don't really know until you get to that that that spot of where you wanna be at Losing an afc championship game. Obviously i didn't get to the super bowl. But then him tell me anything kind of just just saying that he respected what i was doing and how i was planning filming the type of person that i was A kind of best on me to go any new better In order to get the super bowl which we did last year. And i'll just trying to keep improving and keep getting better every single day. We asked andy read about it. He said he didn't enter. Didn't see the conversation. But he said he heard about and he was obviously very grateful. That brady took that time to talk to his young quarterback but re did make a point With the reporters today to say that they are so happy. There in missouri no distractions very few media obligations. It's all football. Football football are

"Now it's time for the mail bag, which is brought to you by T so t so the official watch of the NBA shop. Whoa. Showed up there and a lot of people system. Nice things about him doing that with the NFL watch come on selling nobody's calling me to make any watch appearances. Okay. So as always if you guys leave a review on the I tunes page for the meantime show, you should also leave nice reviews for the Adam Schefter podcasts, we will answer the I will ask the question. I can't speak Adam Schefter, as to be nice squad team six. Adam asks, should I keep my saints season tickets after next season? Or do you see them to gliding? Okay. So we. The saints. I think he's joking. But let me let me put it this way. I actually when I did my NFC south preview. I you know, the saints are still the favorite, but to me that was another division where I felt like it was three and one where I felt like the falcons in especially the Panthers I was surprised to feel realize how much are like them after going specially some of the dishes, they made on defense my one concern about the saints. And this is what I'm gonna ask you is. Drew Brees his splits. When you looked at the end of last year, there are some. Well, me say this to you, first of all, if drew Brees is your biggest issue, then your team is in good shape saying that the splits are there and the numbers are what they are. And and, and he has not been prime drew Brees. He's been good drew Brees, which is good enough in many cases in good. Drew Brees is better than most quarterbacks anyway. But I think there is there has been a little bit of a drop off. But the good thing is he's so smart and capable. He knows what he can and can't do and Sean Payton and peace core. Michael, nobody can and can't do and they have all these other weapons that they figured out a way around it. Okay. So sure we dumped the bold Alvin, Kamara we throw the ball to Jared cook at tight end our new tight end. We throw it to Michael Thomas trae, Kwan Smith deep like you mix it up enough. You're not gonna put him in bad spots and the numbers. Yes, they do. Raise the question and get you to go. Drew Brees is your biggest concern. We're talking about the lions. And so the questions and they're writing the Packers drew Brees. Okay. We're real concerned to be from, like a top three quarterback to like a top ten point. Right. So, and yes, given all the other pieces, given the improvements on defense I'm not worried about the saints at all. I did question there another team similar to the Packers Adam where I thought the might add another wide receiver they went on to Jared cook. Instead, who I think's gonna be phenomenal in that offense? But, you know, I it's a lot sometimes to ask if Micheal Thomas. That's all who's about to become very rich. Right. So I think that they'll get that deal, if you're Michael Thomas, and you know that you're gonna get let's just say twenty two million dollars a year..

It doesn't get much better than that. I say that I mean getting married and having kids that that obviously stands out on lice milestones. Put but winning a national championship in your senior year as a die hard sports fan is also right there and as much fun as ever had on back to back weekends in my entire life. What a basketball talk on today's. Talk today. Josh. And now about to go hop on a flight here to go to Minnesota to do the rockets and timber basketball. There you go there you're going to remind people where they can see that again Wednesday night ESPN eight fifteen eastern Moore Jones on the cold. Dr Spurr is the analyst and some more on on the NBA sidelines. Doing the player interviews, Adam Schefter. Don't let me sideline reporting a lot of basketball. You're going to Minnesota where keeping the Great Lakes theme alive. And yes, I know that last call was from Texas, but it was about Michigan. So work with me there. I think I think we kept the Great Lakes theme going. We we span the globe today because we did spend the globe. And we will keep our ask Adam voicemail inbox open for next week's show. "My pleasure at me back. At a mosque scout scout. We should ask Adam. And we always welcome your ask Adam questions another edition of ask Adam on this week's Adam Schefter podcast. And Josh, what are you round up this week rounded up some good voicemails, Adam? But let me tell you the phone lines were burning up into Great Lakes region. A lot of calls from the mid west as you could hope that means I know what that means. What does it mean at them? Lots of Kareem hunt questions. Yes. In the first one. We of course, talked about Kareem hunt to lead off the podcast, but one Cleveland Browns fan wants to take it to the next level. Let's see where this one goes. Hey, you doing Adam Darren Ashley longtime fan Cleveland, Ohio. Just went to ask with the Browns new signing of Kareem hunt. Does that make us the best team in the AFC? Well, thanks for the question. Darren I appreciate it. Let's keep in mind that hunts can have a lengthy suspension coming, and I would guess that when the NFL hands it down that's going to be ten twelve games somewhere. In that vicinity. So the chances are he's not even going to be a factor for a good part of the two thousand nineteen season saying that the Browns are on the upswing, they have accumulated a lot of good young talent. It's a team that is on the rise. I'm not ready to say they're the best team in the AFC. Not when Tom Brady and Bill Belichick still reside in that conference. We never ever say that anybody's ever better than the patriots as long as Brady and Belichick around but the browser headed in the right direction. And if you're a Cleveland Browns fan Darren that's all you can ask at this point in time. They're headed in the right direction adamant and no disrespect, but they were seven and nine last year. I mean, not only the patriots. But what about the chiefs? What about even the colts the Texans? The chargers what about your own division? Steelers ravens? And I think a lot of people especially with the Steelers might think that that Pittsburgh is on the downswing and Cleveland on the upswing. I'll give you that. But man, I don't care if the Browns had Jim Brown in the backfield, much less Kareem hunt. I don't think they're the best team. In the AFC. I mean, what do you think there are a playoff team next year?.

Evan Kaplan break down some of the biggest NFL off season storylines, and then we'll finish up with Chad steal the Baltimore Ravens vice president of public relations and the post game media liaison for Tom Brady Peyton Manning. And Ray Lewis who has the face that you will recognize if you see him on TV he's always the one standing side-by-side with Tom Brady post game, but first Damien Woody Damian and some in how you doing my friend. I'm good. I'm good. Thank you for doing this anytime anything for you. So Damien the patriots go ahead and when they're six Super Bowl. First of all, you left there in two thousand three D realize what you missed out on like, you could've stayed there. And just had so much jewelry that it would have been blinding everybody'd ESPN. Listen, my wife tells me all the time like. Maybe we should have reconsidered going to Detroit because that would have been opportunities stack all those rings. But you know, of of always been a big believer in things happen for reason. In my time in New England was priceless. The team as that that I was able to play with. I it just unbelievable start to my career. But man, it's not bad having to rings atom, no bad. There are a lot of people that don't have two ranks. Okay. But did you have any idea that they were going to be six rings like this Adam you can never never never in a million years? You would think that organization would get to six. I mean, the fact, you know, win six Super Bowl the fact that they've been to nine nine Super Bowls and what eighteen years is. It's just unreal. In in pro football. I mean, you're talking about a league this has a hard salary cap in and it's really designed not to have this type of thing happen, but you know, kudos to the Kraft family and and coach Bill check in and that whole. Oh organization for providing a a culture that we haven't seen. I don't know. We've seen it. I've ever ever pro football. Correct. When you were there during that time you were involved as an NFL live on Tuesday in the talk real game. And that play may be the single most important game in spawning the birth of the dynasty that was because at that doesn't happen. I'm sure there are plenty of SuperBowl titles. Believe me, but despite not six that played launched it to you know in that play happened. How significant was in the moment. No. I had no idea. All our, you know, the Charles Woodson comes off the, and I just heard a big like gasp from the crowd and turn around and the football is Leyland on the ground. And it was almost like I was stuck in time. Because my reaction was just a tad bit slow and the. From rates whose name, I I'm Greg Eaker. Yes. Greg beaker jumps on the football. Not jump on top of him. And I'm thinking to myself. That's it. It's over like, we're done lost. We lost a game. And then all of a sudden, you know, I'm I'm walking back to the sideline and there's all this chatter going on. And I'm like what what are what is everyone talking about? What what is the big discussion? And I just I looked at coach Bill check and he had his look on his face. And then people I heard that the the role to he knew the ruled that point believe he did. And I just heard people on the sideline mentioned tuck. And I'm like, what is why people why are people mentioned tuck, and it just it just kept reverberating on Ceylon tuck rule tug rule, and I'm like, okay. I don't know what this is. But next thing I know wall Coleman comes out, and he just brakes he breaks it down. I'm like, wow. Never knew it existed. I'm like, I will take it. Our absolutely take it. And you could just see the reaction from the raiders are machine Jon Gruden Asala line. And we we both know John his face got so red, and that's all on was so hot..

Overwatch Philly Chicago Bain, and then we're quarter were to misty. But the go ahead game when drives so thanks ball. All these stress, but everything else is lights, and that's how everybody's going to remember that game as the game in which the kicker missed the kick. It's tough. It's tough. You know, man. That's that's tough. You know, you obviously expect the ticker like from that business go in, and you know, it's unfortunate. But that's that's the game of football. You know, you can't you just got to always be prepared yet. He just missed a mystic. I'm pretty sure routines, and he will be able to make that. But that's guaranteed or that's football. That's why so tough to to win a ballgame. Ryan if you're on that team and your teammate is the kicking who missed that kick, you say anything to do, you know, how do you handle that as a player on that joker? You gotta be a great team girl that you go to Seoul. You gotta think. Sure that. You know, you gotta elevate seasons. You gotta think of there though, you know, 'cause everybody beach about especially if we live in a social media. It's been crucified on there. So you have to fake sort of teammate as brother that have the big sure you have is back picks up because the man has a family. He works. Extremely hard is blowing his cry. Pretty sure bet or you wouldn't be in the lead. But like I said you have to be a great teammate. Now, you were gone for the week and with your fellow linebackers. So you didn't see the colts beat the Texans. But I'll repair actually I take that back. We did we said about at a restaurant area. Excellent. Once they get on Paul. Book. Yeah. We did just that you know, the colts quite well. From having faced them twice this season. They win the wildcard spot against your team in the final week of the regular season. What was your assessment of what they did against Houston? And do you think that they could go into Kansas City and up in the air ABC's number one seed? One. About the colts events being bad. So. It's hard playing. You gotta chance. One thing about the close. There's nothing sexy about that team there. There's just a bunch of guys that just work extremely well with one or another other of offensive line..

"He's at the tail end of a hall of fame career, but really not a viable frontline contributor anymore as for the Carolina Panthers. That's the tough part of the question we could get to the NBA stuff and just rattle that off right away. But the Panthers I think I still think despite the fact that they lost. They night in one side of fashion weeks where short week going to Pittsburgh home teams have a huge advantage on Thursday nights. And the Panthers just got embarrassed. They just got beat bad. But I still think that the Panthers are playoff team in the NFC. I still think they're capable of beating just about anybody. They still play the saints twice more this season. We're still going to hear from the Carolina Panthers. I was gonna say the caller asked how the Panthers could get back on track. And it's not like they've lost four straight at one bad week on Thursday night on the road. John happens. There are a lot of teams that go into Pittsburgh and get embarrassed. So able and you said Carmelo Anthony future hall of Famer brings us to our final ask Adam question also about the hall of fame, Adam my name is also out of quick question for you, Mike Vick at a hall of Famer 'cause I don't think he is. Listen, I think Mike Vick basically could have gone to the hall of fame, but in the private career, he basically went away and was involved in the dogfighting scheme. And so you've got a situation there where that derail the hopes. I think that he would have had to haul in crew he came back to his credit and made a nice second career second act in the NFL himself had gone to broadcast and having had him as a guest on this podcast. I can tell you that Michael Vick paid his price to society. And I think right now is better off for it. So good job by Michael Vick. Excellent player was an electric player, but not a hall of fame player. A good story. A guy that the highlights will live on for a long time. People will always remember the way Mike Vick played the game. But I don't think one of the greatest that ever played in. Of course, that's what it takes to be in the hall of fame. You always hear people say the. Hall of fame not the hall of very good and similar to yourself. And Adam the caller I don't think he makes the cut keep those asked Adam questions coming throughout the season. We try and do a couple times a month. And we're also joined by the Bengals offensive coordinator Bill laser which held turn around Cincinnati's offense and leads the Bengals into this weekend's match up against the New Orleans Saints, but first we're joined by the great Chris Mortensen, my dear friend who took some time to look back at the first half of the NFL season. And discuss what he expects to see in the second half of the season or more. We last had you on week one of the NFL season where now about midway through the NFL season. So I have to ask you what stands out to you about what you've seen the first half of the season that you haven't asked me since we wanted to be on your podcast. Okay. I mean, that's really was as I won a few a few people left standing in the building that maybe. You know, I thought would believe in me a little bit. But obviously we won. Okay, now trying to limit your obligations, my friend. I'm trying to limit your obligations, or here's the thing. I only go to wanna bypass the Rams and saints per minute. And go to what we saw Sunday night against between the patriots and the Packers. And a lot of people have seen the movie grand jury. No Clint Eastwood directed and starred in some people didn't like it because they felt there were some racial undertones. But if you really look at this glimpse at of humanity at its best than a source, and then ultimately at its finest in many ways, but there's a point there were. The Clint Eastwood character tells the among care character that tau who's just trying to get away from the gang life. And he wants will be an honest carpenter to earn a little bit of money to put in a spot and and be a good American. And so he didn't have in twos than have the money by any twos. And Clint Eastwood goes in his garage and Eastwood as a Korean war vet, and and he goes in there, and he towd losses to that. He'd bought because his gang. Meet him up broke them. All so I had nothing left. What am I going to do? So he basically, I think he hands my ranch. A screw driver. Maybe some pliers and some duct tape. He says here you can do anything with this. Knew anything with this. And so when I watched the patriots last night on Sunday night. I said Bill bell checked into anything with whatever is left in his to box and still be you on a on a big game. When Aaron Rodgers is your quarterback. He has Tom Brady has he has some duct tape. Here's a wrench. He has a screwdriver, and he's gonna make it work. So Cordova Patterson is that duct tape and James white is that wrenching. I'm just saying it could be anything wrong south again. And we know. This is so Sony Michelle's out. Yeah. It's and then there are still some things that are trying to sleep one of them is that listen look at what are you have what's in your inventory? You've got to make this work. So make it work. But then you also have the genius elect to original the genius of a young Sean McVeigh, not the wisdom and experience an expertise of a of a veteran Bill Bella check comes in this league. And just create something that is just you know, it's like is it would be like, Steve sadness. It's it's like a symphonic symphony. Me. I'm sorry. Did wasn't a, you know, somebody direct this..

"This week's adam schefter podcast we are joined by the legendary broadcaster premise perga who is now the lead broadcaster and managing editor at vegas stats and information networks with the supreme court decision last week that sets up the legalization of gambling potentially states down the line brent musburger obviously is the subject of many requests a very busy man and we are thankful that he was able to squeeze us into that schedule this past week you're next up ladder you pick got to be in fifteen minutes god i was i wanted more time with the great brent musburger i wanted i wanted to tell the brent musburger life story i haven't given you the book rights yet you know what i'm saying well i would have bid for them brennan i would bid big money then if i am on the clock here brent elimidate right down the business obviously right the supreme court struck down the nineteen ninetytwo federal law last week that band a commercial sports betting in most states and obviously this opens the door to a huge changes in the industry so in your mind as the lead broadcaster and managing editor at vegas stats and information networks what is this going to do to sports now and five and ten years from now well i think you see more prominent advertising for sports gambling sites and the scene owes and things like that at am i would guess that the nfl would be able to charge high rates for advertising for the various big time casinos in new jersey and and nevada some of the chains that extend down to the gulf coast and everything that would be a big impact and it's gonna change the media from the standpoint that at espn that's scrolled just prior to the kickoff of the games on sunday.
