"Emergency services in many communities in need and overwhelmed hospitals Fatima satur is with the international committee of the Red Cross in Addis Ababa and she joins us now Welcome Thanks for joining us Thank you Anthony Fatima give us a sense of what's happening in the north of the country How dire is the situation As you know the conflict in northern Ethiopia continues to evolve and hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced Which has put a huge pressure on the region's healthcare system and most importantly on the medical staff Thankfully we managed yesterday to get our first flight which flew from others to Michael and tigray And we were able to deliver lifesaving medical supplies for the first time in many months So it sounds like there's an opportunity there to improve the situation for people on the ground right Of course and we're hoping that this flight is the first one of a series of flights And that we will be able to provide more and more medical assistance to air but also road Right Give us a sense of what life is like in the north in tigray just for normal people trying to get by And what the situation is like in these camps where there were displaced people are currently living The situation is worrying but not only in tigua and but also in Amara and afar and some people some families have been displaced not only once but twice sometimes And those are people who moved without anything but their clothes they arrive in urban areas So I worried for their kids also they would have to think about lifesaving activities where they don't have access to a job they don't have access to cash or communication sometimes they even lost contact with their families So yeah this is how the situation is looking like Father I'm reading as well that there are a lot of challenges especially for the ICRC doctors who have had to do things like replace disinfectant with salt to clean wounds Can you talk a little bit about how this war has had an impact on the healthcare system What are some of the challenges facing your team The healthcare system not only tigray also in America far in the north of Ethiopia has been severally impacted by the conflict and the colleagues who were in tigray who just came back from tigray They saw doctors using single use items like globes surgical materials and what they do they have to wash them and to reuse them And this obviously increased the risk of the patient to have complication to have infection so I mean at the same time when I think about the assistance that we were able to provide us today I can imagine that it's quite a big relief Absolutely And yet the situation sounds very very serious There have been talks of a national dialog between the tigrayan rebels and the central government I'm wondering when you talk to the people affected by this war what are they telling you What do they want to see happen What are they hoping for People just want to go back to normal They want their kids to go back to school They don't want to worry about what to eat in the evening or to prevent themselves from eating premiums per day because they don't have enough So this is what people are wishing for Understandable Fatima satur is with the international committee of the Red Cross she's based in Addis Ababa talking to us about the humanitarian crisis unfolding right now in northern Ethiopia Fatima thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us We appreciate it Thanks antoni And a story now about discovering a life through the physical objects left behind Harriet powers was a 19th century quilter from Georgia and she was a trailblazer in the African American tradition of story quilts Only two of her quilts remain One is housed at the Smithsonian and the other at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston which recently exhibited both pieces Harriet powers great great great granddaughter Elise minter visited from Baltimore to see her ancestors quilts shown together for the first time My name is Elise mentor I am a research librarian and a PhD candidate I'm also the great great great granddaughter of Harriet powers I knew the name Harriet powers in terms of how it related to my family tree And then one day I was just Googling different family names Trying to find someone else was researching And I came across this quilt that belonged to her She did a lot of what I assume is freehand Cutting a fabric into shapes and figures so there's people there's stars there's animals and she uses different fabrics for all of them so it's very much a colorful affair These are obviously public treasures but they're also like a piece of my family history And as black people we don't often get much faster So it's a little bit emotional and it's like this was my ass This is my great grandmother Jenny Smith who was a teacher in Athens Georgia discovered Harriet powers quilt when she came across her powers displaying her quill at the local con fare and this was in the late 1800s I believe And she noticed the quilt and it kind of stood out because most people were not making quotes like that at that time And she offered to buy it And she said Harry Potter sitting now And so some years passed I believe that that region fell on some hard times so Harriet powers allegedly came back to generate Smith and was like you know if you still wanna buy it I'm offering it for a sell now and she asked her for $10 And janae Smith said you know I can give you 5 That's what I can afford And so she sold it to Jenny Smith for $5 And that's how it ended up in the museum basically because when Jenny Smith died the executor of her estate I think had it for a little while and eventually it was donated to the Smithsonian.

"Tom good morning and thank you Let's start here where the government has been accused of being willfully negligent by refusing to implement its plan B for tackling rising coronavirus rates The British medical association says contingency measures need to be brought in now to avoid further pressure on the NHS's winter Yesterday the house secretary satur jabber said the government wants to avoid introducing tougher measures yet again for more on this our reporter James Wilcox joins me now in our London studio James good morning to you And thank you for joining me First of all James there seems to be this tussle going on between the NHS and the government But what was the health secretary's message last night we heard him giving a speech from Downing Street Good morning there So broadly he is saying there is still a pandemic We still need to be slightly concerned about this although we said there was a freedom day earlier on in the summer now cases have slowly started to rise And I think something that he would be quite keen to point out here is that this is a whole different scenario given so many people are vaccinated compared to last year and that's explained in quite wide it's taken so long for the government to say this rises coming Former than people have received their booster shots the government wanted to be a lot more and they want those people to get those jabs because what's interesting is now we've seen the limits of the vaccine There's roughly 5 months of unity in it before it starts to fade out The government's clear that reduced pressure on the air over the winter they need to be getting their third jabs Yeah so what you've said is really interesting Our honeymoon period with vaccines is now dwindling as immunity is slowly disappearing but satur jabot says there could be 100,000 new infections a day This is really concerning And is this why COVID suddenly back on top of the new agenda It is and also it isn't It's worth saying that if we were in this position last year the ruff sort of number that we were hearing then from the government was 40,000 cases would be enough to sort of put the nation into the lockdown And then by 2020 October 31 we are going to lock down We have been above 40,000 cases for the past 8 days now and no one has noticed anything I think the vaccines have made such a massive difference What the government is worried about is that in addition to the flu and more general mixing coming in and changing the sort of the pressures on the NHS plus the amount of backlog they're worried about all these factors coming in together and then because the UK's vaccine program was so successful in the outset they actually have more people and also the most vulnerable people compared to other nations set to have their immediate dwindle all that roughly the same time Yeah and I understand that but if we have a look across the Europe as a whole we're the only region according to the WHO last week we saw cases rising by 7% Nowhere else in the world has had that And also I just feel a little bit like last year I want to ask you a question obviously when lockdown in October and I feel like a lot of people are saying how can we save Christmas this seems to be a concern and I see such a Java de tell us how to do that yesterday how do we go about that To the rest of the first part of your question sort of why is the UK so different A lot of it comes back to something Boris Johnson said back on freedom day where he said if we don't open up now when do we If we have this very vaccinated population when is the point with the UK economy opens up And the UK has always been very keen to stress that side of things But yes as to what the government's going to do if we don't all play nice and they'll get back to it and start following much stricter measures on ourselves and he gets always stressed that kind of individual responsibility what could be coming back is COVID passports face masks working from home This is what the government refers was plan B where sort of things get a bit stricter I think one thing that's worth pointing out I know skepticism is this time last year early October the government said things are getting slightly worse by the end of October and lockdown Now things are so vaccinated it's unlikely to move as quickly because cases have been rising in a much slower more steady rate but we will this plan B may be pulled out if cases continue to go up But James it's still very concerning isn't it that we are seeing this rise in cases and people aren't going into lockdown and the NHS is really going to be under pressure this winter and thank you so much for bringing us all those details That was Bloomberg's James Walcott joining me in the London studio bringing us the latest on those rising coronavirus cases here in the UK and also the health secretary Sajid javid's warning that we could get up to 100,000 COVID cases in the future and that is daily more on that throughout the show today Over in the U.S. the food and drug association has cleared the way for millions of Americans to receive COVID-19 boost of vaccines the.

"We've been telling you, it is rather shocking a couple of weeks ago. On our show, a attorney announced a federal lawsuit against the city of Seattle for giving up parts of Capitol Hill giving up the East Precinct for Chazz Chop. We had two teenagers who were murdered during that time. The mother of one of those victims is now suing the city of Seattle, but shockingly not only have months of Jenny Durkin's text messages, including June of last year vaporized that disappeared. But same is true for June of last year for former police chief Carmen Best Fire chief Harold Scoggins. Toby Nixon is with Washington Coalition for Open government. He's there. President emeritus. He joins us here on the door in months and show Hey, Toby, It's good to talk to you this afternoon, my door E. It's a pleasure. So tell me because he's open records. Laws are so important. For those of us whether it's in the media or private citizens who want to be watchdogs of government. They're so important and so tell me about this violation and how significant you find it today. Well, there are two separate parts of the law. The first is retention that the records have to be kept for certain periods of time. And the second is the disclosure. The disclosure laws, the public records Act. And the key issue here is that the records were not kept as long as the law requires them to be kept, and it's simply Irresponsible to set any kind of records device any device that can contain records to automatically delete them after any period of time. There needs to be control over that. And there was a serious mistake made here well, And that was Johnny Durkin's excuse is Jenny Turkey and six you. She said that her cell phone was set to delete text messages automatically after 30 days. Should she have known better should you have known exactly what the law said? Absolutely all public officials in Washington state are required to receive training. And records, retention and disclosure, and there's really no excuse to not be aware of the fact that based on the content of records, they have to be kept for some period time and There certainly is one category of records called transitory records that only have to be kept as long as they're useful. But the vast majority of records, including All communications by elected officials have to be kept at least two years and in many cases forever. After that, two years, they have to be assessed by the state archives for their historical value. That just didn't happen here. Well, Jenny Durkin says she doesn't know who sent her phone to auto delete after 30 days. Is that a reasonable excuse? If she just says somebody else set my phone? I have no idea what's happening. Well, I would say that it's Every individual's responsibility who is a creator or custodian of records to ensure that the right thing is happening, especially when it's the mayor who is the chief executive of the city who oversees everybody in the city to make sure that the records they're being retained for as long as the law requires. Apparently, there are lots of other public officials is there mentioned Carmen Best chief Scoggins, all their text messages from June of 2020. When we were at the peak of Chazz chop, they have all disappeared. Which leads a lot of us, Toby to think that there's some conspiracy going on. You've been dealing with this for a long time You have been at the at the Vanguard. Of making sure we have open records for a politician. So what's your reaction just from either personal or professional level? When we hear about all these top officials who were the primary decision makers in giving up these precinct, giving up Chad's job? What's your reaction when you hear that all of their text messages? Are gone from June of 2020. It is absolutely very suspicious story. Um it's one thing for one senior official. The same iPhone was accidentally set wrong, but for All of the ones who were involved in these critical decision making process is to somehow say all all my messages were accidentally lost. That stinks to high heaven. Jenny Durkin says she has some digital forensic people trying to recover the messages she is telling us now. That she's happy and eager for those messages to be recovered. Should shouldn't they be able to whoever wants tax them whether that's the the attorneys who are filing a lawsuit against city can't they just go to the phone company? Aren't they stored on some server with all these cellular providers? That is correct, I I'm on Verizon, for example, and I can go to v tex dot com. And see all my text messages, however, once they're deleted on the phone there also deleted on the server, so it's like the server. Is a backup for messages that have not yet been deleted. So for example, if you lose your phone You can restore the messages that had not been deleted. Uh, but I'm not sure if there's any permanent archives kept on those servers. Ah, lot of agencies use third party software that Daily goes up to those wireless carrier servers and downloads all the messages and stores them separately, and the state archives advises agencies to do that. No. Jenny Durkin is telling us that she hopes the recovered because we're not gonna find any smoking gun. What if we do? I mean, if if they do somehow recover them or if they never recover them. What is the punishment for public officials violating the law like this? So it depends on which portion of the law for the records retention law, it's to knowingly willfully intentionally delete records. Eyes a felony. Depending on the nature of the records. It can be a Class B or Class C felony on D You can also be found guilty of failing to perform a duty imposed upon a public official. That's a Mr Meter. You could be subject to recall on the basis of this. Obeying those laws. Um, in terms of the public records Act that disclosure part of it. There are two individual penalties for those, the agency can have to pay a penalty of up to $100 per record per day. On. Unfortunately, that means the taxpayers are paying that penalty, not the individual officials, but for destroying records before the law allows them to be destroyed. There are individual criminal penalties for that. Well, if my memory serves correct, Toby I think a Class B felony has penalties up to 10 years in prison. A classy up to five years in prison. Is there any chance Is there any chance At the Seattle mayor, the former police chief, the fire chief, if it is determined that they willfully deleted these messages to keep things from the public, is there any chance they'd go to prison for this? It's small, and the reason is that you have to convince a prosecutor Do you actually file those charges and pursue them and Would Pete Holmes or dance? Satur Berg really do that? I have my doubts where we've seen this law used in Washington in the past, and this is why I think there is some chance of it. Is, if it can be shown that the official was having records destroyed, you know, directing their staff to destroy the records or destroying them themselves. In order to cover up Personal wrongdoing. That is when prosecutors around the state have used this law in the past. Yeah. Could Holmes there Satur Bird be convinced to do that? I don't know. Well, I mean, come on. We're a one party state. They all give protection rackets to each other all the way to Bob Ferguson. But the ages office there's no way that they would ever try to put Jenny Durkin in prison. It's just and that's what's so frustrating to me told me that you know, all of us are expected to obey the law, all of us face punishment. But man there is so much cronyism and protection rackets that are going on with things like this. I you know, I agree with your initial reaction. There's no way the dance Saturday, Berg Or or Pete Holmes would do that. The only way it could happen or with Bob Ferguson as well is if the public rose up kind of the way the public rose up and demanded that Governor Isley Vito The Legislature's exempting itself from the public records law, right if if there was enough political pressure from the general public put on these prosecutors To take the right action to do the right thing and if they were thinking ahead to their political futures Then maybe they could be persuaded. So what you're saying is it's up to me to rile up the public on this. You're very good at that. Dorie Toby. It's really great talking with you Appreciate your time this afternoon. You're welcome. Thanks. All right. Toby Dixson is the president emeritus of the Washington Coalition.

Disease you sister streaming now, to be honest happened 8 60 AM theater So with Eric Kaufman and you know there was some variation because they were asked at slightly different time periods. But in both cases of a majority of slight majority of African Americans said political correctness was demeaning. Rather than necessary to protect blacks and white liberals were more likely than black liberals to say political correctness was miss unnecessary. Protect one so anyway, White liberals have this more protective attitude. Where's black liberals have more of an emphasis on no political correctness is demeaning. More of an emphasis on I think with zillions rather than the need for protection, which I think is quite interesting. So, so it suggests that political correctness doesn't have the level of support within the black population that one might survive. I'm curious as I look at this chart of Tani See, Coach says he responded to this or even acknowledged it that he's making black people less optimistic. No, no, I mean, you know, I'm not trade with Dane to to respond. I mean, there are some people who are trying to claim that all well, this event will you know you can produce it with with a short paragraph, but it quickly fades away. It's not gonna last You know other kinds of method. Illogical critics. What your fair fair enough. You could make such a good cheeks. I just don't think that given the amount of messaging of that type that is around that this is really convincing counter. Calderon knows especially the disparity. It's it's rather It's rather telling. So you also have one here personal experience of racism and discrimination by level of sadness and anxiety. Walk us through that one. Yeah, so again, In addition to your partisanship and ideology and how much exposure you have to social media, you also are more likely to report experiencing discrimination and racism. If you're generally sad, or anxious s so, for example, if we people who say they are sad or anxious At least half the time are twice as likely as people who say they're never sad or anxious to say they've experienced, you know, discrimination and racism on that holds by the way for white and black. You know, people said so. Whites who who are Satur, anxious half the time arm or are twice as likely to say they experienced discrimination and racism is whites who never experience who who say they're never Satur anxious. The point here being that your underlying psychological state again is gonna predispose you. To answer Yes, I experienced that as discrimination and racism. It makes you more sensitive to these issues. And so a lot of this comes down to again. Perception and framing are at the heart of this problem. It's not a matter of lived experience alone. I mean, lived experience matters. I don't want to devalue that for real racist incidents. But a lot of this is governed by social construction caused by psychology, ideology, exposure to media and so forth, and that's just not being recognized. It's seen as something that's just real that bubbles up out of people's Experience for us. I think we need to be more skeptical and say yes, yes, it could be, but there's also a lot going on in terms of perception to frame these issues. I think that's very wise. So to summarize it all together, we'll post this study on Charlie Kirk dot com. Also the Manhattan Institute There's There's a direct, I gotta say, direct correlation, But there's an argument to be made that that that one of the major contributing factors to people's view on race and racism in America. Media, social media and even political views and that I guess I have one last question is back in the 19 sixties where people do you have this data where people's racial attitudes of view of race as As different where they're disparities based on political viewpoints in the black community. Um, I don't have that data with me The differences within the black community. First of all are smaller, based on ideology than within the white community. Yes, those differences within the whites Have increased over time with partisanship in part polarization, So I would say those differences would have been pretty small amongst African Americans in the sixties compared to now. But but just Yeah, just overall. I mean, I think what this gets to is, you know, we arrest racist incidents and even police shootings. They're never going to be zero. Just like crime is never gonna be zero and poverty is never going to be zero. And the question is, Are we going to have a moral panic and they need emotional response, Not a rational Contest realized proportional response but emotional response in a moral panic. Whenever one of these incidents is circulated on social media as because social media allows you to circulate powerful images, we've got to become more scientific or skeptical about contest realizing just how important And how representative these stories and images are and not to overreact, because that is very negative consequences for the very people that we are trying to help. Stop saga if you take a look at the chat rooms Stick it to the man is the theme Whether that's driven by manipulators out there who are just trying to push their view. We will discuss that, but really underpinning this all is an economy that is struggling. A 30 a. M U. S initial jobless claims. We're expecting another print of near a million people filing for unemployment, the expectation being 875,000 coming down a little bit. The expectation is from last week, but not that much. The idea of these chat boards and what kind of role they play in fostering some of these huge run ups in the stocks. What kind of regulatory action What kind of oversight is necessary at a time when people view this as populists as the common person? Just voicing their opinion and their view, John I love chairman Pounds reaction to this hotel yesterday in the news conference before we get to the right story. Tom King was asked about this several times. Just found him screaming. Are you serious? We've got nine million people Unemployed. Yeah, with this far away from getting back to full employment and you want to talk about games Stop. I'm so glad you brought the subject Two things first. He did a Fauci yesterday where you could tell he was genuinely more relaxed than he was with the previous presidents. No question about that, but also John, As you mentioned, there's a point about two thirds of the way through where he lost it, You know is as much as Chairman Paul can lose it. He made really clear. Come on. There's 9 10. Million people were short. Run jobs and nothing else matters. I do suggest Gina smile. It's first question was appropriate and he stepped aside nicely. I would agree with the futures this morning with down seven on the S and P 500 off by 2/10 of 1%. Why don't you bring in remain here whose toe and rested and ready to go? I mean, come on, John. This is serious stuff and remains really dive dove into it. There was sort of a brief sort of chill that went through the market. Gamestop actually dropped all the way down. The 3 11 If you can believe it in the post market, though, this morning I got above 500 right now, Sitting up about 32% around 450 bucks 460. If you will, we should point out to that. You know you wake up in the morning now. I mean, the old days used to, you know, John used to check shot down futures to see what was going on. Now you wake up, you look at the red it boards. This is what they're talking about. Gamestop sundown growers That's basically penny stock of a cannabis company that nobody really paid attention to until a few days ago. What do you enjoy? Wiesenthal observe yesterday. What was the behavior of the long crew? The guys in the coaches. I've been defending him all morning. What was their behavior yesterday after if you want, sort of a good microcosm of what's going on. Look at the price action may be the last hour, So we're trading what you started. You see, he started to see significant sell off in some of these names. But as soon as you would drop a couple of bucks, he would see a flurry of activity. A buying activity come in to push this back up. Now. Who's that? Buying now? The general theories that has to be some of this Shorts probably trying to cover but this is the thing now, at some point, the marginal return between that drop down and then that pop back up is going to get smaller and smaller, and eventually this will run its course. At least that would be the theory that she was generally subscribe to you remain, is also a question about the call options. The role of derivatives in driving a lot of this Sorry Ponds Act, pointing out that nearly 38 million call options traded yesterday, the most ever Can we get a sense of what proportion? This is the retail investor really? And how much this really is professional, sophisticated investors taking advantage of this sort of mass wave this mass hysteria and call to invest in specific stocks. Well, the easiest way is to look at sort of what the size of these orders are with regards to the number of contracts being bought, and generally we are seeing them kind of in the 10 or below, which would seem to suggest This is mostly retail traders. I could tell you right now. We talked about this on the show last night. If you're really trying to make sense of the price action and draw a direct line, either back to a hedge fund or back to an individual trader, you're gonna have a hard time doing this. Everything is really skewed right now, And we actually had a couple of short sellers on our program yesterday, including Greg Gabrielle Greco, who talked about this Is that right now, a lot of short sellers. But then what happens is that then the cat's s associating that other cat with it and The tension builds. Instead he gets better. Worse you'll be instead of instead of getting better. It builds and gets worse. All right. So I learned from Ah Gal, that really new cats that no, you just go the opposite. You start petting the other cat. And just let him know. Hey, look at this cat's a nice cat. You're a nice cat. Look at dawn. Someday we got all get together. You know that's the whole thing is de escalate the situation. Don't make it a situation and then pretty soon they should be able to be like if you're watching TV, you know, he might like, you know, batter and here, Satur, but you know that because this jobless she is she's gonna She's gonna hit the dirt. She's gonna lay down on her side and maybe lay on her back and a pause or a bee up. You know, like I'm surrender. I surrender. All right. She's not gonna go after him. And so that's like my addle. I did for the first eight months. And then all of a sudden she realized that with Sally beat her up that she can take her to s. Oh, that's what we're just gonna do, his baby says. So once in the candle one's doing, sniffing and getting a chance to run around the house and do some sniff. He's on their own without, you know, and then vice versa. The whole thing is his round robin here. And then, like I say, when you're out, you sitting in the kitchen sitting in the living and whatever you got one cat somebody's got the other cat, you know, And then you could try. Put them down on the floor. See what happens. All right, so just pay attention and just do it baby steps and then But the legacy if he starts really growling like you, and you know, it sounds like all hell is gonna hit the fan. Just go on and go. Oh, you're okay to start put down start pat. Numb, patting him And as you can insist, slowly try to pick him up. You know, I mean, just very calmly, you know, going to come up, but just call me keep Patton and then go put him in another room. Yeah, Okay. I didn't come back to the situation s so that's what you just gotta remain is remain calm. That's and just talk softly. Don't let any bad things happen when the interaction is happening. Okay. Okay. So the digestive Yeah. That's what I had to do with Sally. And with Adaline. Sally wants and wanted to take Adaline out. I can't tell you how many times the beginning, Adeline spent half her life on the back with the balls in the air. Point I surrender. I surrender. All right. And in this alley got to be a bully, You know, But so then what I just did is I go all come on, Sally, that petting her. And then you know she liked me. Pedestal, then should warm up to me. And he gave an ally in time to kind of turn around. Then go sit and just kind of watch me pet. Sally. You don't even like I say eventually. Now he had every once in a while they battle each other, but they get along fine now. No, but I'll keep looking. But just take your time. Don't do it too fast, because that's what's gonna bite you in the butt is what's gonna happen. Okay? And it was somebody leaves the house that you're going grocery shopping or whatever. Then, Okay, Where's the cats? Make sure that they have their own space. All right. And then And then the only time they get to try to come together is when you guys around to referee The state. Keep it light and perfect. Okay. Have fun with the munchkin cat. That is really Yeah, I know the playful and cute. I know what my Walter is a munchkin cat, not by Noel not by being bred to be a munchkin. Oh, how they got the Munchkins is basically a genetic defect. And so what happens is that like you see if you get back breeding like mother's son, father, daughter that gene can pop up and that's what my Walter is, You know, he's got the little stubby legs in the front. And then his back legs. They're taller. And anyway, And is he a Z Get older, You'll see the difference How that works, okay, and then that their face, you know, but, yeah, So this whole thing is, is that? Yeah, they are. They're cute because you're different. And yet they're gonna you have a lot of fun. So Leah Luna and Leo, what a comma. Thank you. Thank you Open that take care, but by Yeah. Yeah. So that's Walter's Got that. You know the short front legs, Google some images. I was much good cat. Yes. Yeah, they are cute s. Oh, yes, Everybody says what's wrong with that cat because about his front legs are shorter than the back legs and I said no Today, Nick defect. But everybody thinks he paid all this money for a munchkin cat. And I said no, look harder..

"Thing in as we continue to talk with leaders in our community. Joining me today is Robert Smiley with the hand up project. Robert, Can you tell us a little bit about the hand up project and what you've been up to lately? Hand of project We're foundation is designed to help people that are in hopeless situations and the majority of the time that's detox and treatment of chemical dependency issues. As well as mental health. And a lot of it now is home with this. What we do is we tried to be on site foreign. Somebody needs help will pick him up for him in the passenger seat, and we'll drive them to where they need to go to get into the next phase of whatever their mental health or whatever. It's gonna walk them along to the next step. On the clean up when we're going to Woods will go in, and we offer backpacks in surprise and food, and we'll know that when they're ready, we're here. Just pick up the phone call us and we'll get him into detox and treatment the same day, But also we do a lot with people calling us saying they have loved ones or they themselves are just done and they want help, and it's Fair amount that we just head right over. Sure scooped him up. And whenever there's pauses, that's when they have an opportunity to rethink and there No, My brain is out to kill me because here is helps me to make some of the worst decisions out there. He told me it's okay. I could use one more day and it never works out the way my brains plans that I expect the same without this work with there's any gaps. We're going to lose him. What got you into this work? I was I was a homeless addict for many years and I kept trying to, uh, step programs and I get it for 22 years totals this time around, though somebody told me in the meeting Robert, If you're tired of failing at this program, you might want to actually try this program. So I committed myself to one year a year in the day And then I was gonna party to get that one year I was gonna do everything that was suggested everything I was told to do whether agreed with it, whether I thought it was right or wrong. I was just going to do it. I turned out. You know, Once I remove my opinion out of a scenario, then I got close to a year and I didn't even realize it. I was so Grateful for the new life down living, and it's all because of that of people during the instructions. Turns out I just had the what? Listen to other people that have been through the process. I love that story. And I love it because first of all, when I met you when you were clean and sober and so to hear, hear the stories about you just blow me away because I see all the good work you're doing, and it's hard for me to picture you as a homeless drug addict. But on the other hand You know things that a lot of people who try to help in services they help coming from a reference of not knowing what it's like to be there. So how is the hand up project different people? I was doing it so that I could stay sober, but I had I use my experience to help them to get them back on their feet. Once they got on their feet. Um and they're working a program and making changes. The best recourse was to have them help me find others. And so now it's just going to the point where I've got a whole bunch of people that are recovered homeless addicts. They're going out there and helping others and when they help others where they do the needle garbage cleanups that we do they see themselves and the only difference is They've made a decision to listen. It was another people, and now they're part of the solution As part of nerves. Maintaining recovery is helping others. Not only does it benefit them to go out and help others because others are getting help, but it also helps them to serve like to say, because we like helping people The reality is when I'm trying to help somebody and they're giving me excuses or stories I recognize myself years ago. And I realized that if I don't maintain being open and honest and completely transparent, then I'm gonna go back to being that person and I'm going to do whatever it takes Not to only way I could remind myself is by seeing it in others and seeing like how far you've come in. What can happen if I stopped? Doing? What work. I was one of those that Satur and told Oh, I won't work for me or I'm not ready yet, Or I give up. That stuff's not gonna help me. I came up with every story in the book like I run into Most addicts house And once he realized when they gave up and just work this program the way it was written their life's changes, and they shake their head because one of it's depressing that I couldn't fix myself. I want to be, you know, be able to take credit for fixing myself. But it wasn't until I gave my world my life over to a higher power program that taught me to be accountable on a daily basis. Do I actually start? Having a life worth living, and none of it was my suggestion. Talk to me about gratitude. Gratitude aspect is phenomenal because Right now, the way my life is going, I don't care about money. I don't have money. But whenever I needed money, it seems to show up. I don't know how it works. But I'm grateful for because I need that money to get people to detox and treatment, cover housing or medical bills or ideas, and I don't know how it all works. I just know that when it's needed, it appears Actually, my gratitude. Jizz is I've got a power where you do myself involved in my life that is watching out for me if I'm willing to stop and listen, how do you talk to an addict is on the street. Do you talk to them about gratitude program? Mainly try to give them to be honest with me they could because for the most part, they start with the stories. And the reason why they're that way is because whatever people have done and until we stop them and start taking responsibility for our actions, we don't grow. We don't stop doing it. It can't be because my mom or my dad did this to me. It can't be because somebody else thought I was a bad person. Or if I'm making the choice to pick up a drink or a drug. Instead of not and going through the turmoil and worked into the problem with a professional, So telling their story is a big part of their getting well, there has to be what we found is and it's also with studies and stuff like that is when people tell talk about their situation. That's when they get most of the ideas of they recognized that what they're part of it and it woz and falls into place. You just have to be conscious is what you're describing in your story. Why did you use it? Because you're you your body is, uh And she don't want one a lot of dope on me. Once it started getting in. It's not going to stop and it's gonna change your way of thinking the blaming others whenever their intention to get well as the fight. It's the battles I've been hearing lately. Relapse is part of recovery after being it does not have to be a part of recovery or changing your life. I know quite a few people who have and I have quite a few people. I said. I've tried, but relapse is part of my recovery. And it's for 22 years. I kept going in and out in and out, no relapse. And But truth, Wasit wasn't that the relapse was bound to happen. It was going to happen when I didn't stop and get honest with myself and find somebody that would walk me through the steps. Or help me die, Identify my own issues and be willing to listen to him. This stuff isn't easy, and I don't have good excuses to go back out. Go back out because I want to use being around other people in recovery and also helping others that need recovery. But we do it in a group group setting so that it's not just one person China save another person because it's not gonna work that always ends up to somebody relapse him Because back of our minds we're seeing how tasty drugs and alcohol were we forget all about the negative. We think about how did it was still not remembering that as soon as we take that drink with a drug that instant regret is in our heads. We forget all that stuff. Now I understand you have a new program. Do you want to tell us about that? Well, we've been helping to give people in tow off the streets and into either detox treatment or mental health or employment, veteran.
