"This is the financial exchange with Chuck Sato and Mike Armstrong. Well, after a couple weeks days in markets, it looks like we're safe. First some green on the board, at least heading into the afternoon. Here on a Friday we got the Tao of 277 points the S and P s up 22, the NASDAQ of 61 points As we kick off the 11 o'clock hour of our show, It's Chuck, Mike and Tucker here. We've also got bond selling off a little bit. The 10 year treasury of 2.74%. A barrel of oil going for 40 74 gold is off $4.20 an ounce to 19 0 for right now, But we got some green on the board today. I don't think it's really stimulus related. I think this is if I'm looking at it. The two things that would be moving major markets today number one. Obviously some good news for Boeing. It's still a big component in a number of indices. On number two some good retail sales numbers that gives some optimism. I think, yeah, that's what I'm looking at, as well. You know, there's been a lot of, uh, talk from the Fed talk from lawmakers about this economy falling apart without stimulus. I still think that that is a strong possibility. But these retail sales numbers certainly add some encouragement for investors that are worried about that type of doomsday scenario. Talk a little bit about the vaccine candidate from Pfizer and Ah, who thinks their partners it? Ah! Bio something or other that that bio in Tech one Yes, that's the one by one Take. I always forget their names. So CEO has been, you know, pretty public out out in media out on the trail, talking about this vaccine and the possibility for an approval in October. It is now looking like this is going to be pushed too late November at the earliest. In terms of application for that emergency, you use authorization. And pretty much the reason why here is that the FDA is requiring at least two months of data from these trials for full enrollment in order to be able to hit their primary end points and say OK, have we, you know, done a safety check. We checked for whether or not this is effective, and so based on that This does put us out to that third week of November. Now that would still be a fantastic time line. They would for a virus that we really knew nothing about back in even march of this year that that is a very, very quick turnaround. You know, typically again when we talk about vaccine development were usually looking at a 10 year period of time. So the idea that you can have a vaccine developed an approved for public use within nine or 10 months. It's insane. It's it's it's I mean, it's it's stuff that again. You don't normally see happening. So I think that again. We'll have to see what the data shows. We're going to have to see. You know what level of protectionist offers. Most scientists out there have have said Look, this first round of vaccines is unlikely to offer you know 92 95% protection. It's much more likely to be in the 50 to 70% range, but we'll see what the data shows. You know, it sounds like within the next five weeks or so we're gonna have Pfizer releasing the data and applying for this emergency use use authorization. The other ones that are out there. So we've had Johnson Johnson, who suspended their trial, so I'm guessing they're a little bit behind the eight ball. AstraZeneca had to spend suspended their trial as well. Where else are we with other vaccine candidates? I believe Moderna has said they're hoping for the release of their trial data in December or January. Hopefully eso there a couple months behind the potential timeline for Pfizer, and, you know, we don't know how long these pauses for AstraZeneca, Johnson and Johnson are going to last summer. In some cases, these pauses turned into Hey, there's an issue here, and we can't just pause. We need to rethink our approach right. But in other cases, it's okay. We need to pause and OK, Here's what's going on, and then we resume. So this is why you have so many candidates out there and it's why we said at the beginning look You want tohave 7100 different candidates out there because historically, when we look at vaccination approval rates you don't get 100% through every stage. You're typically it like 20%, you know, somewhere in that range 20 to 30% end up usually getting approved when they're all said and done. And obviously, in a case like this, you're gonna have multiple options that have to end up being Selected I I liken it back to the development of polio vaccines. The initial vaccine that was used was not the one that was in widespread use. Five years later, you had better ones that came along and he continued to develop and you want competition. You want to see companies saying No, we can do this better. We have a better platform. We have a better delivery method. That's the kind of stuff that you want to see. So I think It's encouraging that Hey, Fiza is still saying, Yeah, we might not be able to hit that October threshold just because we need the data, But there's still saying, Hey, we want to be able to apply for this in November. And that to me suggests, um, optimism on their part. I do think the one thing you conclude from all of this is that, at least for the time being, Fizer appears to be in the lead of the Of the major Western vaccine makers, pharmaceutical companies that are trying to do this, at least for the moment. Five. There appears to be in the lead in terms of getting the first one to market that can all change. We saw it happen with Johnson and Johnson wrap it sought have with AstraZeneca's. There's still a lot more to learn, but for him from what we are reading advisor for the moment seems to be in the lead. Along these lines I've been saying for a while, based on again my readings from people who know way more about this than I do that One of the key things that we're gonna have to get to is better, faster and more widespread testing and there is a test that is being developed by Scientists at the University of California, San Francisco on and I'm sorry the study that was done on this was done there. But this was a rapid test that has been developed that In this study that was done in San Francisco showed that this rapid test actually had similar levels of effectiveness in detecting Covert 19 and patients compared to the longer more complex and more expensive PCR, the Paul Marie's chain reaction tests that are typically used those the big swab tests. And so if true, this could be a huge step forward in again. Not this specific test, necessarily, but Rapid low cost testing is one of the ways to help people build confidence in being able to get out and resume portions of their lives. They have previously cut off this kind of stuff again. It's this is part of the solution in moving forward in a world where we don't have a vaccine that 100% effective 100% taken, right? Yeah, these PCR tests are the ones that you if you are exposed and those of the tests that they asked you to go get If, for instance, your traveling outside of those states that require you to quarantine like Massachusetts like Hawaii, these the types of tests you need to go to get before entering the state it brings up the problem has been with his rapid test is they have more false negatives than the PCR test critique. PCR test is they have more false part. They have some false positives. So there are critics, but you would rather see false positives and false negatives. It would seem that for group testing, So here's an example. I'm going out to Arizona this fall next month to go visit family. There's going to be six of us traveling together. We're going to be quarantined there for a few days before going to see you know some of my family members who are in higher risk categories. We're going to get tested..
Before Resigning, Prime Minister Makes A Final Push To Strengthen Japan's Military
"Abe, Japan's longest serving prime minister, is stepping down this week after eight years in office. With his career ending he has made a final push to strengthen Japan's military. As NPR's Anthony Koon reports from Seoul. That push could affect the balance of power in Asia. At a press briefing last month to announce his resignation, Arbet said the country faces and increasingly harsh security environment for North Korea has greatly improved its ballistic missile capabilities. He said he questioned if it's enough just to be able to intercept those missiles. And later suggested Japan also needs a missile arsenal as a deterrent. That could alter the security landscape in Asia. Sheila Smith, the Japan expert at the Council on Foreign Relations, points out that at the moment, Japan is the only country in Northeast Asia that does not maintain ballistic missiles. One of Bob's career long goals has been to throw off post World War two restrictions on Japan's military. He failed to revise Japan's constitution in which Japan gives up the right to wage war. But in 2015, he did push through legislation allowing Japan to deploy troops overseas in support of allies. At the time. He explained it like this. I know From tomorrow, no more. Let us no longer turn a blind eye to the changes in the environment and remain idle said he urged Japanese to be more confident. They also oversaw the making of Japan's first aircraft carriers since World War two President Trump boarded one of them on a visit to Japan last year and praised his host. I want to thank my friend. And your prime minister. Is an extraordinary man. His commitment to improving Japan's defense capabilities. Which also advances the security of the United States of America. President Trump is questioned the need to protect wealthy allies like Japan, who he says don't pay their fair share of defense costs. Matsuhisa Sato, a lawmaker with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, says that even before Trump, Japan knew that the U. S was weary from decades of foreign wars, almost taken taking a soldier's gotta move. No Sekai. No case took President Obama said that the U. S is going to stop being, the world's policeman says, and the lawmaker added the trend of countries taking more responsibility for their own defence will continue. Regardless of who the new U. S president is Washington in Tokyo insist their alliance remains ironclad. But doubts about America's commitment are driving the Japanese debate about missile defense. Sheila Smith of the Council on Foreign Relations, says this represents a shift in Japanese people's thinking they've grown up with the U. S. Japan Alliance says the you know like the framework within which Japan thinks about its security. They don't have A conversation. I've never really had a thought process in their public policy debate that says So, what do we do if the alliance doesn't work? Former defense official Kyoji Ah Nagasawa argues that Japan now faces twin risks in its alliance with the US home Tonight. One risk, he says, is that the U. S. Might abandon Japan thie. Other growing risk, he says, is that the U. S. May drag Japan into an unnecessary conflict, for example, with China He says Japan should focus on diplomatic solutions such as mediating between Washington and Beijing, rather than seeking new weapons. The outcome of Japan's internal debate on missile defense will become clear by year's end. When Shinzo Abe successor and his government roll out a new policy. Anthony Kun, NPR news soul

Guess I guess he looks looks kind of like a wombat. The character of the actually changed. Right nothing? That's probably why they went with something. Ridiculous abandoned Kudos was similar enough to a wombat. that. We can go with this. They probably change them a bit though because I to remove wings. Yeah, so. At least remove wings. I wanted to choose on. This is A. List that I had this kind of complimented the one you picked I. The most is like kind of dark and slow and dreamy. It's just I don't know it's got that style. iPhone 11 Software Review
"There is new software in Beta for the iphone eleven eleven WPRO that has actual changes so what what's going on for the eleven eleven pro Beta this week yes so oversee headlining thirty point two is the new like quote unquote deep fusion technology for the camera which is eleven in another exclusive at this is like a new set of algorithmic the apples developed as a thing that alongside nightmare since my hasty are and basically depending on the current lighting conditions the the camera ultimately decides whether it's GonNa use the smart hasty processing the fusion processing racing oversee the nights pricing and the night mode you get the onscreen indicator because you get a little badge says not active and he lives up in Orange and you know that's what's happening but for the just generally taking photos you use it. You shouldn't have to know whether you're taking a smashed yeah picture or a diffusion picture apples given it this like a stay with the branding which I think is kind of too much emphasis on it as being a tangible thing the the the way they intend it to be is a completely invisible improvement to the camera app the I think maybe if it'd been it'd been ready in time to shit for point zero they might not even mentioned it as a as a brand name but because it was coming later they needed something more fancy to say this is to associate with with a software update other than just saying they improve contrast dito at because as a general day-to-day user of the thing you should just take pictures and after why and the phone zone this is working properly should let the our them for the job and get the best shot so I smashed yard will be used basically in daylight situations and and then very situations tonight mode and everything in between there is kind of using the the diffusion like pipeline we see in various people do tests with diffusion on and off at the moment the the basic the only good way to see the comparison for yourself is to disable capture outside the frame for photos because for some weird reason diffusion can only work if that if captured the disabled so you have this kind of bow between between the two features side by side at the moment which is kind of unfortunate because capshaw said the framing useful when I've gone some benefit savvy even like the phone I I haven't probably like there's been times I've taken a profile or like a straight on photo of someone an Axon each of the legs off and it automatically back in but I I think the benefits of the fusion improvements while SMO- enough though I'm going to have to leave capture said the frame disabled for the time being and I do my own tests I got like a jumper with threads and Woah and did side-by-side shows on a tripod to try and see the differences I it was my test pictures. Were pretty like opt to random variants of challenge of the pictures being quite similar we see more pictures online of big differences. The no Jeff Benjamin who's doing the video point two or a big change as well it's nice improvement and it definitely helps getting extracting detail and contrast and like image clarity but it's not something that you're probably GonNa Notice is looking at these pictures on like instagram rampage they scroll by artists on your phone screen the differences that we're talking about here when you're playing a picture up to like a laptop screen or like Keno screen I oversee what they showed in September like a nice improvement but is Sato ultimately then today and I think in the in the in the best time line they wouldn't have given so much focus is a thing because he kind of Sabah expectations so high that like the iphone eleven a knife and Lindbergh Cam is really good on their own. This makes extend slightly better and it's basically invisible. The pitcher takes a secretary to process apart from night basically just happens and you don't worry about it which is great but it's not something that you should like hang something off of his like. You can definitely say this the moment you upgrade like a very very subtle difference between the bay. You're in the bay. It's not like nine race literally night and day difference in the picture. It's just a it just a nicer photo have any experience with this diffusion stuff in the Beta yet because because of the the the the Washer view and experience I don't WanNa do need Betas yet because had the customer experience but I you know I'm like mildly interested because I love taking pictures and having the best photos rose from the phone which is an upgrade reason for me but also like in what people are showing me what this online. It's kind of a quite pick it up. You know like sometimes it's like really clear I think matters as to as to if if it will take a better picture if you need it will kick in and if you don't you won't see it because some of the variance differences between the two pictures can be up to chance up to a different angle you know kind of thing slight tweaks and it can be hard to show and even with apple has shown is like these are two pictures taken with it but Nah aww comparison of with and without so so it's it seems to me that the thing to know is that you'll take better pictures but like you said it won't be like night and day like might mode is but I'm I'm. I'm looking for in China now whenever this is not in the Beta yeah it's it's definitely it's definitely better is not a back step and you can definitely see a difference but the difference is small relative to the kind of like so much focus the brand name not fusions given it like it sounds so mysterious and like sci fi but the end result is the pictures. Dude looks like that's kind of like the headline situation so a story that came out this week is you can see in the thirteen point. Two Beta is this thing where apple kind of made a concession session to the like monopoly situation of I message in a way so but only specifically inside Siri that now teaching the Siri the assistant to recognize other data gaps in addition to I message when you ask Siri to tech someone so if you say say message Zach it will when this is currently in thirteen point eight Beta as long as the or the pot yep support the relevant. API's it it can learn the Oh you actually always taught his act through was up for instance which had done but say we did and then in the future you wouldn't have to say message out using wall. Stop at the moment the situations for all the stuff you have to say the name of the APP in the request if you don't sit in any of that be reversed to the stock apple APP so what they're doing in thirteen point two is letting it be more flexible about learning APP for each contact for messaging and they're gonna add thank later as well so theoretically is pushing down some of the barriers the gave message look in in a very small white because he only effects Siri at the moment like and I think it bigger play would be if if they truly allow like the setting of APPs for things like music because I've seen we've seen them at the circuit audio. API But at the moment it doesn't matter how many times you all Syria to play music.

"So I was at this party recently at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador to New York totally no big deal by the way I go to these things lake all the time sally herships. He was my host at the party. We had the experiencing Labor sautes pumped up. Can you believe that there are companies that went bankrupt because they weren't enough workers. Yes that's correct. I Ah I had a difficult to understand that news is happening. Okay so critical labor shortage labor shortage so bad that companies in some industries are going bankrupt because they cannot find enough employees and you might think that the. Way To solve this problem at least temporarily is to get workers to work longer to put in more hours but that is actually not the solution that Japan is pursuing. nope not at all instead to solve its problem. Japan is asking gets workers to work less. It is actually writing this into law. The country of Japan is putting a cap on the number of overtime hours. Its residents can
