You know, adventurous and challenging and so we chose a tough mudder. Now, we're actually doing the Ivy league it's a five K chorus like five kilometers. So it's not super difficult. I wanted to mention quickly before we go into that update and discussion of passive income. The one hundred side hustles book is coming out on June third. Hi, I'm really excited about this. It's my first book, and at least a year and a half maybe going on two years, and this book is unlike any other books that I've written. So it's my six book, I still can't believe by the way, I've been writing books for decade. I still cannot believe that I get a chance to write books, and then they go out in the world and people read them and some people actually like them care about them. So if that's you I'm so grateful. I really do feel grateful every day that I can be an author and produce the show for you. So this book is different than every other book because it is highly visual. So it's a four color process book, meaning that, you know, every page of the book has color photography on it. Just beautiful photography. We commissioned. I think something like fifteen different photographers all across the country going around and documenting many of the most popular episodes of sottile school during your one. So basically this book is like the podcast in visual form. I mean, it's three hundred pages. It's like a coffee table. Book you can put it out in display it, but you can also read it, it's crazy. It's a book that you can read it's a new feature that we're trying out. But my hope that the book is as you scroll through it. You just see like all these different stories, and you're like, oh, I could do that. Or it's really interesting that that person did this, and my hope is that just inspires more people to kind of inter this rural and and by into this role. I don't just mean like subscribe to my podcast. I mean do something for yourself. You know, find a way to create this kind of passive income for yourself. I no way to create an asset and you can do that without quitting your job. You can do that without going into debt. You already know a lot of things like you have skills already. And so you just need to learn some pretty simple business skills to apply them. It's not like you need to go back to business school. It's not like you need to go into debt. You know? I mean, and if you've been listening for a while you understand that's the message of the show. But I just kind of like to reiterate it because I think it's so important, and I think so many people out there need to know that message into know that it's possible. So I kind of see this book, you know, again, it's called one hundred side hustles as a book possibilities, essentially. It's like a book of like. Wow. You can do this. So I'm looking forward to showing it with you as I said it comes out on June third, and you can pre-order it from anywhere makes a huge huge difference to authors when people Priore their books, I know as a reader, you probably don't care like well, just wait till the book is out. But as an author it makes a big difference because that shows bookstores distributors everybody in the publishing industry Opie people actually interested in this book. So it kind of creates this like positive loop cycle. So we are working on a special. Thank you for everyone. Who does that? Because I know like I said you could just wait till the book is out. But if you take the time to actually pre-order it now what you can do from anywhere any online retailer could be Masan could be something else. Could be your favorite local bookstore to always encourage people to support. And in this case, I do recommend the print version because it's so visual. But of course, there's also an audio version as well. And of course, an e book version for kindle and all of their common formats, so as I said, we're working on a special. Thank you for everyone. Who preordered I'm I'll tell you more about it soon probably next week, but you don't need to wait because anyone who. Who buys the book in any form at any time before it comes out. We'll be eligible for this special. Thank you. You're not going to miss out by pre ordering early. In fact, as I said that makes a big difference to me. So thank you so much in advance. I if you're up for doing that. All right. Speaking of books and speaking of passive income, and creating free for yourself all these strands are going to kind of come together in one amalgamation in this audio update it's gonna set us up for a more extended look at the subject of passive income. So without further ado, I want you to hear this extended update. It's about two minutes from another author. Jessica Brody, let's hand it over to her. Jessica, hey, this is author. Jessica Brody from Portland, Oregon, my side hustle is teaching creative writing online, and it was featured on episode three three since then I've launched two new writing courses the first which came out in November two thousand seventeen is dedicated to learning the foundations of fiction writing and the second which released in October two thousand eighteen teaches writers how to plot and write bestselling novel using only fifteen steps the same fifteen steps. Hello Monday on apple podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts. What is the easiest side hustle that you can jump into right away with little experience and little risk. We have talked about it before its reseller the art of buying something at one price man selling it for another price preferrably a higher price. Actually, if you want to make money with it, a reselling is how I got my start doing online business approximately one hundred years ago. I guess it was like twenty years, but it feels like one hundred and over the eight hundred twenty five episodes of Saddam school. We have featured a number of stories of people doing it in various ways, not surprisingly given. The intro today story is a case study in re-selling where an automotive painter with thirty years under his belt finds more than scrap in the waste bins at work. He fixes himself up with a new side hustle that brings in six figures and grow sales by his third year. We're gonna call it digging for profits. One man's trash is another man's hustled. In case you want to do something. Like, this yourself will also include some advice from him so Bilo sell high. And stay tuned. Don, Shaffer Tigard, Oregon is not new to the world of reselling growing up. He was the go-to parts guy on the playground where he specialized in skateboards and bicycles in his teenage and young adult years. He frequented thrift stores where he'd purchase armfuls of albums and cassettes, and he would play until he got tired of them, and then turn around and resell or trade them in simple terms, Don belong to a generation still saw the value of something after the newness had worn off this point of view served him well over the years, but as the world evolved, he noticed that people were putting less value on things with minor flaws at the auto body shop he worked at for example. He routinely saw parts being chucked into the bins due to a little bit of wear and tear, and the most common of these rejects were headlights and tail lights you see when your head like, it's a crack in it, or it retains fluid. The insurance company says that you're entitled to a new one in most cases your insurance will pay for the brand new headlight the body. Shop orders it then they put that new headlight in. To don's utter dismay. They would throw away the old one regardless of whether the damage was minor or not body shops. We'll fix it didn't or scratch on a car when it comes to something like headlight. It's just easier for them to replace it entirely. Headlights and tail lights are small money to shops that try to work as quickly and efficiently as possible. So it doesn't really make sense for them to invest valuable labor refurbishing them when gone realized this he had a lightbulb moment of his own if they were throwing them away. Anyway, why not see if they'd give them to him to resell long story short Don walkaway from his shift that day with a couple of dozen headlights and tail lights and he began sprucing them up in his garage. Some of them just needed a little cleaning buffing others required. A bit more elbow grease at the best part is they were all completely free from the shop. Although it may not seem like it on the surface. This was actually a win win situation. The body shops often have to pay for their waste by weight and taking some of the refuse off their hands meant that they would pay less over time for the first three months of his new hustle. Don would pick up headlights and tail lights shop he worked at as well as seven others that is. Managed Spurs him up Bota grabbed him right up some descriptions, then list them on Craigslist, so far so good. But then things changed or even leveled up when he was contacted by a fellow headlight reseller in southern California. This reseller wanted to see his inventory. So Don, let him come over to his house to check out the lights after carefully reviewing what he had to offer. This reseller set aside six or seven different headlights and offer on five hundred dollars for the bunch. He ended on five one hundred dollar bills packed his hall into his truck and trove off into the sunset. Don was in shock. He walked back into the house and showed his wife Kath the five hundred dollars. He had just made he told her he thought they were really onto something here. And that was the point that he started to take it seriously. He enlisted Castile to navigate the wonderful wacky world of EBay the rest of that year twenty sixteen they spent nights and weekends hustling their headlights and tail lights on EBay bringing in around twenty five thousand dollars in grow sales with a seventy percent profit margin the following year, Don decided to drop a day off his work schedule. So that he could dedicate more time to the hustle, which led to their numbers. Doubling by two thousand eighteen they crossed the six figure Mark bringing in one hundred and fifty five thousand dollars in sales now, like any growing side hustle. There have been some growing pains attempting to stay competitive with Amazon they tried to offer free shipping in two thousand eighteen but this ended up drastically cutting into their profit margin and went from seventy percent to fifty percent, still not bad more than seventy thousand dollars. Income. They've since implemented flat rates for their lights twenty five dollars, a headlight or fifteen dollars a tail light. And since making that change at the beginning of twenty nineteen. They've sold one hundred eighteen lights grossing twenty two thousand three hundred dollars now that they've stocked free shipping. Those profit margins have jumped to around eighty percent. So we asked on in casper, some advice based on their experience for anybody out there who wants to do something like this enlist on EBay, and they said the more frequently you list on EBay, the better you perform in the algorithm. And also if you're posting consistently your products will get seen by more buyers. It doesn't have to be every single day and their case they may not have lights to list every day. But do it as consistently as possible. They also said one of the most important parts of putting together an EBay listing is getting good photographs of your items, which I try to stress all the time for anyone reselling. You want lots of lighting with the camera on a tripod and a neutral background for the shots. So that potential buyers can see any flaws in what you're selling. Finally, they learned a really important lesson. Which is that not all headlights critic will essentially, you know, in the beginning, they would process their lights on a first come basis. But now they keep an eye out for more profitable headlights, those from BMW's and lexuses, for example, they can be resold for up to eight hundred dollars. So now in new inventory comes in they process headlights on value basis starting with those that will yield greater profits down to those that will not in for their stock that isn't selling well on EBay. They turned to Craigslist where the buyers are even more thrifty but less picky. So in conclusion dawn's early days flipping skateboard parts on the playground. Ended up serving him well later in life is there a skill like that you can draw on is there a headlight hustle in your future. So

Hello Monday on apple podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts. Today. Sign up for school story is all about two friends who create a multicultural masterpiece in Boston launching a four prophet art space. This business was formed out of a need for more diverse and inclusive spaces feature art for recreation. Now, what is art for recreation? There are these things called paint parties, you're not familiar with paint parties. Well, I guess that's what I'm going to tell you about here and the featured in a long time ago ought to look it up. There was all about cannabis and painting. She kind of come together and get high and do some painting, which you know, sounds awesome to me except for the part about painting. Some not so good at painting myself, but a lot of people out there are really into this thing of gathering together to create art now along the way as part of the episode, you'll get a lesson in how to turn a liability or possible weakness into a selling point as well as how they adapt or adjust from that point. And then in addition something about how instead of trying to balance an idea like if you've got a new idea, how do you date that is how do you know that there's demand we've talked about that in different? It's, but it can be kind of a tricky thing. Like, you don't always know. But the alternative is to look for an idea. That's already valid effectively saving yourself a big step. So in this case, the two people tell you about kind of knew that this was a thing they knew that if they could figure out some variables there would be demand for it. So it was all about how do I figure out this, logistics? How do I make it happen? And as I said how to just two complications that arise along the way. Victoria, down into nica Johnson are two friends living in Boston. Although they both work fulltime jobs. They've also dabbled in money making ventures in the past Victoria, had a successful hustle selling shape butter into Nico sold custom jewelry and cupcakes while creating and building is in their DNA a few years ago, they both on themselves back working fulltime jobs as trainers in the public health field. The jobs were fulfilling but sites like the level one trauma center, Victoria worked. We're not necessarily the best environment for artistic flourishing. So they looked outside their work to get their creative fix and for both of them. They found enjoyment in art. Around this time to paint party scene was just starting to take off. If you're not familiar with the paint party give you the quick brushstrokes these gatherings. Typically, take place in an art studio or similar space and are running groups over the course of a couple of hours art instructor shows, everyone how to create a masterpiece of their own. This is usually done while enjoying some good wine and cheese bottom. That's what makes it a paint party. It's easy to see why the business model was popular the parties were just a lot of fun and people loved them, Victoria into nica. We're no exception. But they realized there was a multicultural spin lacking. In the Boston paint party scene. Boston is a truly diverse city with people of many races at MRIs and backgrounds. Victoria, engineering design a concept that was similar to other paint parties or the artworks the group created would reflect the diverse array of people in their city with that the easel was set and a paint party started the two friends would begin their own version of the concept in honor of the spirit. They wanted to convey, they call it sauna with friends sauna being the Swahili word for art. They set aside four thousand dollars of their own money to get things going with the funds in place. They put down the first dash of colored paint on their new hustle. The beauty of following a proven business model is that the work of validation has already been done. In other words, they knew what they had to. Do they just had to go into it? The main task was to find a studio space to run the parties for that. They looked around the city eventually settling on a nice studio on the outskirts of town away from the hubbub within their price range next. They had to find an instructor do their network in Boston. They hired someone with previous experience a clearer picture was forming. Now, it's time to sell the class for that. They turned to their personal networks. Easiest way to do that was by using Facebook it worked and their first customers were victorious sister mother-in-law she texted to nica, and they did a virtual. Hi fi. To celebrate. They kept chipping away the sales and one by one they sold their way to a full studio three months from the initial idea. It was time to unveil work of art. Unfortunately, that's when they ran into a big problem, you see paint parties and wine typically go hand in hand. But to serve one in Boston, you need a license and Victorian into naked didn't have one. They thought it would be simple enough that turned out the area in which they'd rented. The studio was already maxed out of licenses. Apparently there was a cap. They didn't know that before signing believes in true hustler spirit. The show must go on. Sleaze simply ran the paint party is an alcohol free event. And who knows it may or may not have actually produced better. Art, the two women had been excited about the space at first they realized it wasn't a long term solution. It seemed that the location was actually too far from the city centre and the lack of alcohol license was proving a deterrent to their target market. They were determined to make things work. So they shifted to a slightly different model it decided to partner up with local restaurants by hosting parties at their premises. The benefits were threefold. I it removes the need for large overheads like a real space. Second enabled them to piggyback off the restaurant's reputation to attract customers and third allow them to remove much of the stress and instead focus on bringing a unique artistic and truly multicultural experience to their customers. The strategy has been a big success. It's allowed sauna with friends to grow into a profitable side-hustle over the past two years and in the past twelve months, the businesses generated twenty five thousand dollars that's only while operating at part time. It's not enough to quit their jobs and goal in. But that's not the goal at least for now. The best part for Victoria into nica is the actual parties. They don't feel it all like work at these parties. They get to paint connect and network with their local community, these two artistic prints are living proof that with a simple idea. Handsome, perseverance willingness to adapt a side hustle can become a work of art. Awesome.

If you are in the Buffalo New York area where you happen to be visiting maybe going to Niagara Falls going check it out and on that topic of small victories. I was trying to think like what are my small victories today, and the first few things I thought of were tasks like, okay. I prepared this episode soon. I will have completed this episode. I finished an outline for something else. I'm doing I prepared for a conference call it cetera. And then I thought well, I mean, these are all things I have to do. They're all things I've signed up for it. It's part of my work, but they really count as though small bakeries because this is my normal workflow. I thought well who's to say what your small victories. Are you can decide for yourself? You know, of course, nobody's doing that for you. But I do think there's something to be said the idea that these small victories are like when you're working towards something that is new or different or challenging for you. So all the things I just mentioned even though they're important for me to do them. They're not necessarily challenging but not necessarily like bringing me closer to something. You know, when I'm actually working on my business, not just working in the business. Small victories when I actually think about business development and take a step back or or do some more development of our team. Or I think you know, what's the next thing. We need to do for our community inside a society. Maybe those are the kinds of things that fit better in that category. Because I to naturally not do those things all the time tender naturally just like have my head down. And do what's in front of me? And in some ways, that's good. But in other ways, I wanna make sure that I continued to grow and challenge myself, just like I'm encouraging you to so I'm gonna think more about that. As I go forward. So what are your small victories? What are you working toward? How are you taking steps to get closer to a dream goal vision? That's important to you. A Levy without for the day. "Millionth dollar Justin wasn't about to get comfortable. He wanted to do something different something bold. So he reached out to your neck, a friend and NCWA champion and ask him to compete in a half marathon race wearing his dress shoes. Uris agreed and later that year he set a new Guinness world record for the fastest half-marathon while wearing dress shoes. It wasn't amazing feat. Two of them actually, wolf and shepherd has now sold over two hundred thousand pairs of shoes and has retail partners all over the country justness thrilled about a brand new product launch coming next year and a big time brand ambassador who is going to lead the marketing it sounds like he's got it covered. So I'll put my feet to the floor and tread lightly. All right. Awesome. Congratulations to Justin as I mentioned there wolf and shepherd grant has sold over two hundred thousand pairs of shoes. All since starting from this vision to do something different. And to challenge traditional assumption. That assumption is that dress shoes are not that comfortable or if they are comfortable at least you can't go in front up half marathon in them. But by challenging that assumption. And then just being fanatically obsessed with his product to the point that he's willing to fly down to the factory and go and look and cabinets and basically fix the problem fixed. The disaster that was going to happen if he had not intervened himself this fanatical obsession, then inspired the loyalty from those initial customers and led to everything else that came after that. So I usually like to highlight stories that don't cost a lot of money to get started at that is the key principle of side-hustle school. But in this case, he wasn't borrowing money. He was essentially trying to fund his model through pre-ordered. So a bit like a kick starter or an indie gogo. But it sounds like in this case he was just kind of doing it on his own more independently I was trying to think of some other clothing. Bands that have challenged traditional assumptions like that I thought about ever lane. I thought about my undies which I've talked about a couple of times. These are these are brands now I mean, these are corporations that are that are much larger than the kind of sadness lescoe stories type feature, but I think of them because they are successful in doing something different or again and challenging traditional assumption. Also, thinking about a friend of mine named Marcus Harvey who has the Instagram account at Portland and that account, you know, ended up getting hundreds of thousands of followers because lots of people around the world are interested in Portland, Oregon, so Marcus was smart to get that account a few years ago, and, you know, do some fun things with that show a lot of photography, but he was even smarter in recognizing that in a long term, you know, just having an Instagram account with a city name. "Hey, what's up? It's Chris quick. Little check in a quick Hello art from regular episodes. First of all, welcome to our new listeners. Lots of new folks coming into the community. So glad you're here really excited about sharing the message of satis school, Hugh, which is basically that you don't have to be an entrepreneur have a big startup to make extra money. There's all kinds of different ways to do it. And that's what I tell you about in every single episode every day now for everybody those who've been around for a while, especially thank you for seven hundred facades. My gosh, we just finished up seven hundred around this time last year. We were coming to the end of your number wine. I said that I'm so glad I did this. And here we are closing in on another three hundred sixty five kids believe it or not. And I'm having so much fun. Still I continue to learn along with you. I continued to be surprised and amazed at many of the things I've been hearing through the stories and also just through our listeners who are experimenting and starting projects. So couple things. First thing I want to let you know as that. We will be doing a third season of side-hustle school. It has not. Coming to an end in two thousand nineteen I'd like to get up to a thousand episodes, at least one thousand total stories of people like you finding ways to make more money and improve their lives. We've got at least three hundred more episodes to come. We're not going away at the end of the year. And I'm even more excited now than when we start it. Also, the next phase of improvements, I try to be really honest and transparent with you about not just things that go. Well, but also things that I think I do better or ways that we're trying to improve over here because that's what it is all about continuous improvement. And with that, honest reflection in mind, I realized that I have been a bit negligent not intentionally but still there are a number of things that I wish I had done differently or better. I'm trying to fix that. I really am. I feel like we have such an amazing community so many people out there and really the greatest needs the greatest express need that I hear all the time is just a means of connecting with one another and sharing tools and resources and doing calls or just connecting more online or whatever the format, and so we launched a program called side-hustle society and. I think we had a pretty good one point over Sion of that program. But I'm the first to say, I think we can do better. And so I'm working out on the second iteration of that community, which we expect a launch in early. Twenty nineteen got to new team members who are coming on board to help me with all that stuff because you know, as we have seen. I can't do it all myself and also gonna do a check in call for everyone anyone out there. If you want to have the chance to phone in and ask a question, or otherwise, you know here what's going on? And just a couple of brief things next year. I'm gonna do to new live events in different parts of the country. Then a bigger tour in June in the US, Canada, UK and Australia at least with a new book. So stay tuned. Lots of stuff on the way, I'm gonna leave you with a quote from one of our recent featured case studies, right? This is really good. Listen up people will say it's a risk to start your own business. But so is wasting opportunities and your potential time is our most precious resource. Don't let your whole life pass you by without going for what you want most. I love that quote. So there is an update and encouragement for you all in one as we go into the holidays. I wish you a festive season lookout for everybody out there. And thank you for being part of this fantastic community more to come.

It is Wednesday, which means we're going to do something a little bit different. In addition to our regular episode for the past two years. Ship station has been a proud sponsor of satis school. We have been proud to have them, you know, referred a lot of listeners to them. They have a ton of success stories of their own from their customers who are doing all kinds of interesting things. And we recently went through a lot of different stories. Some that came from them some from us to create a special series of side hustles gone big now, listen, not every side hustle needs to become a full time occupation. I'd mentioned that all the time. It's totally cool to just have something that you do on the side. But I think it's also fun and inspiring to see how far some people are able to go. So each short story includes a quick tip as well. This is the fourth one of the series. It's all about a sock of the month club that produces and ships one hundred and fifty thousand socks each month. So pull up your socks and have a listen. Did you know that there are about eighty four thousand stitches and the average pair of socks Noah Lino because he's counted his sock of the month club, which he now runs fulltime with his business partner. Dane, and they're Twenty-three employees started with just six hundred dollars a sock full of resourcefulness they were both working regular jobs in Austin, Texas, when they decided to cover the world's feet. No endangered had worked on a lot of projects. They talked about doing something together. The soccer club was Dein's idea. He'd already built a website for it just hadn't moved forward. So once no offer to join in. They pulled up their socks in total. They spent just six hundred dollars to launch this project three hundred dollars to register with the state of Texas and three hundred dollars for their first order of sucks. The launch with simple Dane sent an Email at two AM saying the website is live, and I published it on hacker news now, it's your turn good luck. They were both busy with their day jobs. So there was no time for celebration. Just the pressure to deliver the product, but why Asaka of the month club? Why not just sell socks? It's because they recognize the importance of recurring revenue. They did. Want to just get paid? Once they wanted to get paid over and over this desire wasn't just for being profitable. Although that's good too. It was also about being sustainable being able to project from month to month. What their income would look like that confidence allowed them to move forward with expansion eventually hiring employees and investing in a quick -ment when they began they would buy socks mother manufacturers than resell them, but they switched to designing and manufacturing their own eventually moving to a facility in North Carolina to handle the growing volume in addition to those subscriptions, they also make custom socks for companies. They recognize that SOX can be a commodity. But they don't have to be Noah says, the real value. Their business provides is an experience he calls it a gift experience, even a love experience. It's something more than socks and it happens through creativity. These days they ship out one hundred and fifty thousand of those gift experiences each month. His advice is don't try to make anything perfect focus on getting your first sales and get good at failing lesson for today is that recurring revenue allowed the stock of the month team to grow independent of any holiday season or press coverage or special promotion, then. When they took care to build the right, tools and infrastructure, so they can keep up with all those socks going out to the world. This has been the fourth of eight special episodes, featuring side, Hustler's who'd gone BIC. Stay tuned for a new one each Wednesday. And if you're ready to take your hustle to the next level, let ship station help you get there faster. Get started today. Ship station dot com and use the code hustle to get thirty days free and a special bonus.

"All right. So first of all, congratulations to you. It sounds like a helpful and much needed product, especially if you're a parent who lives in a cold climate. Now, let's talk about this unique challenge that I briefly mentioned at the top of the episode. So in her case like I said, I didn't actually know this was a problem. And I'm not a parent, perhaps, I wouldn't know. But it seems that a lot of parents don't know either. And when we talked with her she gave us example of someone who sells diapers if you sell diapers. You've invented a new kind of diaper. You'll have to start by saying, hey, here's what a diaper is. And here's why you need it because everybody already knows. But in her case, she does have to explain that. If you're not familiar with the struggle getting your kids into their seats with coats on or why having your children in puppy coats, while driving dangerous, and you don't understand why her product is necessary. So it can be kind of a slug like it's the kind of thing. We're in the long term. It's not going to be a problem. But right now, that's where she's at. If there is a greater awareness of the problem. And why there needs to be a solution for it? Then she's going to be well positioned. But until that happens that obstacle is going to be on the way. So this to me is the kind of project that you start if you have a vision for it. If you you definitely want. Provide a solution to this problem. It really bothers you. It's the kind of change that you want to create in the world. Then that's the reason why you go down this path. If on the other hand, your motivation is oh, I just want to have a side hustle. I want to Mixmaster money went to create security for myself in that second income. So I don't have to depend on my day chop for all those reasons if your motivation is more aligned with something like that. Then this would not be a good opportunity for you to choose. There's probably something else out there that might be easier. The might not have to educate people about you might not have to persuade people that you need something if you can provide something that they already know they need that's usually so much easier. So of course, it's not to say one way is better than the other because again helpful needed product. But if you don't have that vision, maybe do something different. So neither pathway is. Right. All the time. The question is which path is best for you. What are your goals? And what are the steps you're gonna take to get closer to those goals? I enjoyed learning about this problem and also seeing Dahlia's interesting and creative solution of you. Enjoy this episode as always inspiration as good but inspiration with action is better today show. That's where we will link up everything I discussed all right satis school dot com slash six eight two that is prepping six hundred eighty two I'll be back again tomorrow with another episode much more on the way. My name is crystal about this is site us'll school.

"Bucks each so she's making an average of a hundred dollars a day and the time commitment to do this is about ten minutes a day so not a bad wage this whole experiment has got kelly thinking about what comes next she's already working on her second online project hoping to build more passive income and if you ever need to take revenge by mail or just play a prank on someone maybe you should order up revenge by mail postcard several things to point out here about this project first and foremost to disclaimers i made a disclaimer about read it i don't want to get in trouble they're not telling everybody to go out there and spam right it and post promotional stuff all the time she definitely took a little bit of risk in doing that but of course in her case paid off well and secondly second disclaimer is her project isn't mean okay it's actually funny like i went to take a look at it before we profiled it on the show because because i've seen a couple of similar things before which which are actually about insulting people for real that's not really the spirit of what she's doing here so for example she said a couple times he's had people ask for something like hey you're fat and she's not going to send out an anonymous postcard saying hey you're fat or whatever else is is like a legitimate insult it's pretty clear from looking at the postcards that it is a joke it's a franken and maybe not everybody's gonna get the joke or not everybody's going to get the prank but i do think there's a distinction there at least in intent also she had some really great advice we always ask people like what would you advise somebody else who's thinking of doing something like this and remember that her idea came from when she saw somebody else's idea about sending glitter in the mail if you thought well that's a brilliant idea but i personally would never pay for that what would i pay for i think this postcard thing could actually work so what she said was like when you find an idea you like don't say i wish i'd thought of that rather you should ask yourself how can i put my own spin on that it may seem like every good business ideas already taken but learning about existing profitable side hustles can be the most valuable brainstorming tool i love that quote because that's essentially what i'm doing here on satis school every damn telling you these different stories not expecting you to go and start your own postcard project or not expecting you to start selling days like i talked about yesterday but ideas can lead to other ideas so it can indeed be valuable brainstorming to consider all these different ideas and approaches and then last but not least don't forget my friend marie forleo always likes to say everything is figure out able again tell he didn't know how to make a website so she googled how to make a website i just i love that you know she didn't know how to how to print postcards so she spent some time looking that she wasn't a designer but in some ways the lack of polish design skill actually kind of fits this kind of project like it would be weird if the bargain brides postcard congratulations on your mail order bride looked legit like i mentioned about the not being mean thing most people can look at this and see okay it is a joke so everything is figure out there is an idea out there for you to maybe you'll hear about it on
