Reporter Jeffrey Goldberg Addresses Trump’s “Loser” Remarks, Talks Using Anonymous Sources

"It has been a rough Labor Day weekend and the trump. White House where officials are absolutely full out freaking out about Thursday. Night's report in the Atlantic that trump had characterized Americans who died in war losers and suckers trump has spent the past four days repeatedly nine the story marshalling all kinds of people to. Come forward to knock it down he insisted today the quote an animal would say thing that the White House trotted out figures like Sarah Sanders who we know is lied to reporters multiple times to claim the report isn't true because they were there when trump didn't say the terrible things he allegedly said take they're hoping you don't think about that formulation too much. The main problem for the White House here is that the evidence supporting the story is pretty obvious and clear and almost overwhelming to anyone not inside the trump reality distortion bubble. The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg reported that trump cancelled a visit to an American military cemetery near Paris back in two thousand eighteen partially because he worried his hair would become disheveled in the rain and partially because he did not respect the American war dead interred there. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the schedule visit trump said, why should I go to that cemetery? It's filled with losers in a separate conversation on the same trip trump preferred to the more than eighteen hundred marines who lost their lives at Bellawood as suckers for getting killed. Now, the sources in the story are anonymous you know anonymous sources are not as. Good. As name sources when you're evaluating something, but it doesn't mean that the claims came in on some anonymous tip line that no one knows where they came from. It means a reporter in this case, Jeffrey Goldberg spoke to people directly interviewed them and has agreed not to identify them in the story Jeffrey. Goldberg, will be here with me to talk about that in just a moment. His initial story has now been confirmed in part or in its entirety by reporters at. All okay. Remarkably a correspondent at Fox News included in that lineup whom trump promptly called on the network to fire. Some of those corroborating stories included even more damning details about the president like this one from the Washington Post quote the president told senior advisors that he didn't understand why the US government plays such value on finding soldiers missing in action because they had performed poorly and gotten caught and deserve what they got and this from the New York Times people familiar Mr Trump's private conversations saying he has long scorned those who served in Vietnam as being too dumb to have gotten out of it as he did through medical diagnosis of bone spurs in his heels. Back in two thousand, nineteen trump's former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen testified the trump admitted to faking those bonds first telling cone quote you think I'm stupid I wasn't going to Vietnam. There's even more evidence that trump view soldiers at stupid or suckers Mary trump the president's knees wrote in a recent book that trump and threatened to disown his eldest son if don Jr. joined the military. She also says that her own Father Fred trump junior was mocked by donald trump because he fred trump junior decided to join the US air. National. Guard quote my father was frequently ridiculed for his career choices and disparaged for serving our country by both his father and by his brother Donald. Then, there's the fact that pretty much none of trump's top military officials past and present are backing the president up. I mean you really can't find anyone who's stepping forward to defend his character save he would never say anything like that they aren't disputing the story instead that's been left talking heads and former flax and loyalists. That's maybe not a huge surprise because trump allegedly said about all US servicemembers, hues very closely to what he said back in two thousand fifteen about one particular veteran Senator John McCain. War here or euro he's a war hero years he's a war hero presumes captured. I like people that weren't captured. Okay I hate to. John. McCain was prisoner of war in Vietnam for five years host. Donald Trump avoided that war had a different experience in an interview in the nineties. He characterized his efforts to avoid transmitted diseases while sleeping with numerous women as quote, my personal Vietnam. An. Event with Union members today Joe Biden lambasted the president's comments an invoked zone Sun Beau who served in Iraq and then died from a brain tumor in two thousand fifteen. Those of served. Risk, their lives even gave their lives, our nation losers suckers. He's our heroes. Tell you something. My Bowl wasn't loser. For A sucker if that's I, talk about our veterans, you have no business being president of the United States of America. What's being entered into the record here to take a step back and look at all the evidence about Donald Trump. Shocking. Morally offensive. It's not surprising. It's about what we have come to expect. But. One big question that keeps pulling on my shoulders. Why are we learning about this now? What does it mean that we are? For more on that and the fallout from his incredible reporting joined by Jeffrey Goldberg He's the Editor in chief of the Atlantic and I jeff, maybe I start a little bit with. The reaction to this story from the White House you. There are stories that come out all the time about the president that are fairly scandalous incredibly scandalous. And one time they said it's fake news and they swatted away or the new cycle moved on, they do seem particularly freaked out. About this reporting. An particularly intent on attacking it what what is your sort of reading of the last three or four days of their reaction? Well he's a good question. First thing I would say is that. This is not an attack on these are not reports of an attack on site immigrants or black people or or something like that we expect from Donald Trump and something that his base might actually help him with his base. This could hurt him with his with his base You know the the the second thing is I. Think there's a lot of. Nervousness in the White House and again I won't I'm not commenting on anything having to do with my sourcing or other reporter's saw sourcing Fox. Washington Post whatever. I'm you know there's a there's a deep hostility and mistrust in the White House of. Current and former generals people who lead the military. We saw that today Donald Trump did something that I. I've never seen before he attacked his own a service chiefs. He attacked his own leaders of the Armed Forces on call? Them. I mean, even in the even in this sort of an Tasma, we are twenty twenty race that's still something but I think it has to do with the fact that This is the kind of accusation that sounds believable in also goes directly to. A core constituency that Donald trump obviously needs to Keep energized come November. Yeah we we should note that there's there's been polling of of active duty servicemembers in which he's he's underwater with them There's been an interesting sort of officer enlisted split, but he's been losing ground even with a enlisted members. He's gone for a net positive nine points and Net net net negative twelve points. You can see that there. That's the latest military times pulling. You just mentioned what he said today was pretty remarkable. Briefly, sort of like channeling kind of like left anti-imperialism vis-a-vis his own service chiefs although it's completely like made up and fabricated because he. In the next breath, he's constantly bragging about how big the Pentagon budget is and how Raytheon is making off like a bandit. So but I wanNA play that clip just to get your response to it take a listen to what he said. I'm not saying that military in love with me to soldiers are the top people in the Pentagon probably aren't because they want to do nothing but fight wars so that all of those wonderful companies that make the bombs and make the planes and everything else they. Happy. But we're getting out of the endless wars you know how we're doing. But here's the thing Jeff. They're not this drives me insane the where we have expanded our footprint, we've expanded bombings all the theaters, and this is an absolute con-. This idea that the Great Antiwar Donald Trump has some revolt on his hands on the generals. As, you will know the generals are usually more hesitant to go to war than not usually often more has to go to war than than civilian leaders for some obvious reasons. No, this was remarkable i. mean he sort of channeling. Start Sixty Bob Dylan lyrics here I pointed out on a show media today it's It's quite remarkable given that tomorrow there's a pretty good chance that he'll brag about how much money he's spending on military hardware, and of course, as you know, he's deeply transactional in love it when when foreign countries by our military equipment. So if you're looking for consistency in that particular clip, you're you're looking forward it in the wrong place it doesn't make sense in any kind of traditional understanding of of politics.

And this is it while we were in the staff vans and route to the jamboree. This is a Boy Scout jamboree that Trump spoke out. Remember? While we were in the staff vans and round to the jamboree, Mooch announced. I'm proud to report I crossed a major item off my bucket list today. Trump Denies Calling Fallen Soldiers ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers’

"Trump is strongly denying reporting in the Atlantic that said the president allegedly made disparaging comments against fallen soldiers, especially since I think that anybody help military ABC News White House correspondent Karen Travers is with us, Karen This is an unusually vehement denial fromthe White House, isn't it? Yes, it is. And I was there last night at joint base. Andrews when the president came back in Pennsylvania at that rally there, and he came off the plane and literally like marched over to us. It was dark. There is a loud noise from the plane ended on the president spoke for about seven minutes to take any questions. He just ranted about this piece in the Atlantic. He was fired up, and he emphatically denied these explosive allegations that he made disparaging remarks. Stop falling soldier. He said he'd be willing to swear on anything that never said about our fallen heroes, he said. There's nobody that respects the more. The White House was very quick last night after the peace broke to say this was not true, several officials who were on the trip with the president Clued in the former press secretary Sarah Sanders saying she was there that did not happen. But, you know, I think now there could be some pressure for whoever the source is. Work. Go public. You know, I think the White House is a valid point that this is this is going to only be anonymous sources saying this they feel this smear campaign against the president. For those who haven't heard Karen. What are the allegations specifically? Yeah. The allegations that piece in the Atlantic say that the president called Americans who died during war, losers and suckers that he stepped away from doing a visit to a cemetery for U. S soldiers in France because he didn't think it was important to go there. There are four people in the article that say they have firsthand knowledge of this, but they're not me. I should also note. We have not confirmed the details from the Atlantic and there was a piece I believe in The Washington post later. Or the that said that they had confirmed some of these things. There's also a lot about in the Manning case about the president speaking ill of John McCain before in public that isn't necessarily something new. But president last night, will even denying that he'd ever called John McCain, a loser he had publicly on DH talks about all he did. Became funeral, even though they disagreed and did not get along. Where the fake Trump media massacre video came from, and other things to know about it

"All right so for those of you that might not be totally into this story or understanding where it's come from this was totally trending on twitter all day a and it just so happens that I spoke at the conference where this is the center of controversy so there was a horrific museum video where you're donald trump massacres fake news media now essentially there's these videos that go around and there's this community of people that love the president so much they'll take popular videos superimpose the face of Donald trump onto somebody kickboxing or somebody with a lightsaber fighting people they disagree with so I guess the most this one was the CNN which with precise which was the body slam when the wwe one because the president shared that one and so this particular video was from the movies kingsman which is about the British Secret Service or something starring Colin Firth actually doesn't fourteen. I've never enjoyed those movies I it's called the dark comedy only for some people only some people very cheesy I never liked that movie right somehow killing people's funny but no there is a whole genre it appeals to a certain the demographics never liked the not Nora Nora I've tried to watch it a couple times is just not really my my genre so anyway this memoir so those that don't seem to have to define what a menas because we do have some people okay so mean is what is the best way to find a mean kind of like when you know it Ben Johnson Adam Benny Johnson chief creative officer turning point USA so look amine is a picture or a video that satirizes or explains an issue in a short sound bite that usually his comedy or uses wit I guess that's a good way to put it that it turns it on its head flips it sure Iran nick insightful. Almost here's the best way I can describe it it's the Internet's equivalent of political cartoons that a good way to put it share okay a modern digital essentially this scene in kingsman which I don't understand how this scene was really funnier incite fuller enjoyable the watch but allegedly there was a scene where somebody walks into a church and kills a bunch of people that was the scene Church massacre and they superimposed Donald Trump's face to be the guy that's killing everyone and then he's killing the fake news media CNN MSNBC as well as Democrats like Barack Obama Nancy Pelosi unless we totally denounces videos unequivocally and totally I don't think it's funny to show violence against other people I think it's it's not my not my taste I don't think it's funny people I find that Kinda dark humor interesting I'm not one of those people however he let's just get through some facts they say this was shown at the president's Miami resort so all of the media covering this is insinuating as if the president approved this or this was at his resort he didn't at all okay so I was at this event it was a unique event it was one with a lot of energy and a lot of people that were really excited to be there and Donald Trump junior Sarah Sanders governor on descent data's thankful to be invited you know so this video is shown in a side room in a breakout room against a wall in a very kind of make shift CAPAC- acidy and Don Jr. Ron to Santa Sarah Sanders myself and Corey Lewandowski knew nothing of it we didn't know about this until the news actually broke and now we're being lumped into this I might have spent forty minutes at this event basically the entire time I was at the event was when I was speaking in and out and Laura Ingraham that night and then I flew to Detroit super early the next morning I didn't hang around it was not but they're acting as if we were behind this entire thing the headlines are all all sort of inferring it's like Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Donald trump junior charlie kirk and this

"sarah sanders" Discussed on Words Matter

"Joe Lockhart. Welcome to words matter. I'm Katie Barlow. Our goal is to promote objective reality. As a wise, man, once said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, not their own facts. Words have power and words have consequences. Welcome to a special edition of words matter about the legacy of outgoing White House press secretary, Sarah Sanders, so before we jump in Joe President Trump nounce last Thursday that Sarah Sanders would be leaving at the end of the month. Explain to our listeners why we waited until now to talk about it. Well, one of the things this president does any no all White House is do, but they do it more than most is on a day where they got bad news. They try to make an announcement to say. Hey, look over here. I suspect the Sarah news was in the pipeline it wasn't ready. But when the office of special counsel, said, the Kellyanne Conway should be fired. It was like, well, let's throw something else out there. I think we try to be in the business of sticking on what's important, not on what Trump's latest, shiny object is I knew we could come back to this at any point. So that's really the reason and last Thursday, just hours after the announcement, you wrote a column for CNN with title, quote, Sarah Sanders failed in almost every. Aspect of the job and besides ending the daily press briefings. How did she do the job differently than her predecessors? Well, actually surprise you start with something she did well, which is one of the criterias having a good relationship, the president and under having access to the president, having the trust of the president. And she certainly had that I said, almost every aspect. That's that that was a positive for her. I want to stay on the daily briefings for a second ending. Those was of critical importance. And if you talk to White House reporters, they'll tell you that, even if they've become somewhat of kabuki theatre just surfacing, the questions and just for the public to see here, the things that we think the leader of the free world, should be held accountable for even if they choose not to answer or deflect, or lie ally is ally isn't true alive. That's recorded on camera for history is much more important ally than you know, something, you're just saying hallway it was an. Important and a really damaging decision to and the White House briefings under Sarah's tenure second aspect, the job revolves around the issue of trust. Is this really unique place at job in the White House where you work for two people? You work for the president, you work for the press, you're an advocate for the press, and you've got to retain the trust of both sides neither side trusts the other. The press doesn't trust with the president saying the president doesn't trust what the press is writing and putting TV and radio. The press secretary sits in the middle, and you just are useless to both sides when one or both sides decide they don't trust you in the president decides that you're not telling the truth, or that, he's telling you things in confidence that your then repeating he's going to cut you off the press is gonna pay no attention to you. If they find out that you're not truthful, Sarah was not truthful, and she was not truthful on a regular basis. And she's the. Only one that I know of that ever had to go in under oath, and admits she wasn't truthful, and the only reason she would tell the truth was being faced with some jail time that says something about the character, I've been out of the White House for almost twenty years, I have never said a negative word about a White House press secretary, it is a hard job. There are some I've, like there's some haven't liked there, some I thought had done a great job there, some I've thought have done a miserable job, but there had been a code of it's a hard job, leave them alone. Let them do their job, what Sarah Sanders in the Trump administration did, and Sean Spicer to some extent started is so wrong is so different is, so it's a thankful to our democracy. I felt no other choice but to speak out. I don't enjoy it because I know what it feels like to sit in that office and be criticized doesn't feel great. I wouldn't have taken it. Well from my. Predecessors. But this is different. This is unique and this is a challenge to our democracy, and it has to be pointed up. Let me make one final point on the failings, the press and the president always have contentious relationships. But one of the things that Sarah Sanders that is she helped normalize? This idea that the press is the enemy of the people, and you cannot over estimate, the damage that does to the democratic institutions that we rely on that many of which are under attack from Trump, but also to the rest of the world. You know, you've now got leaders of other countries emerging democracies saying things like it's fake news. And these reporters are the enemy of the people, we are a model we should be a model for the rest of the world for how democracy should work and Sarah Sanders played an important and visible role in modeling the worst behavior possible for an emerging democracy. And this isn't some SSI. Turkish you this is in our interest. The world is stronger. Wind democracy flourishes. The world is weakened when the -tarian governments flourish, and we are sending the message on a daily basis that the press doesn't have a role, and it's the a thirty of the leader comes from the leader and the cult of the leader, not from the support of the people with the press being in the middle as their proxy after your column on Thursday. On sunday. You wrote a longer column for CNN entitled after Sarah Sanders, we need a real press secretary, one of the roles of the press secretary you define in your column is senior internal investigative reporter inside the White House. Explain what you mean by that one of the reasons why sometimes I reporter doing the job is good at this because you need those skills. Let me give you a couple of categories. There's a lot of competing agendas in the White House, take this White House and take trade. If you went to just Peter Navarro the trade hawk. Doc and said Peter Where're we on this trade issue with China? He would give you what he thinks on honest answer. Then it'd be walked down the hallway into Larry cudlow office, and said, Larry, where are we on this trade issue? He would give you what he thought was an honest answer, and it'd be different and the job of the press secretary, synthesize and talked to enough people to figure out. Okay. Here we are. And then ultimately in the press secretary doesn't decided to what I would do was walk into the chief of staff office and say, okay, here's where I think we're coalescing around Peter will agree with this part, Larry will agree with this part. So I think this is what the line is, and the chief of staff most of the times, would give the okay or you might change on some issues say we have to take this to the president, and we walk down the hallway and as the president, depending on how important the issue was or nuanced and political. The issue was, you also have players who have their own agenda. There are times where let's take our White House. Now, say Peter Navarro who's, you know, a trade hawk and tariff hawk. He just might tell you things that aren't true because he knows that will help promote his agenda you have to be able to go around, and verify thanks because otherwise you're just hot. You're held hostage to whoever you talk to. So I had experience with people who honestly thought they were telling me the truth who weren't they were giving me a piece of it. And I had experiences with people who knew they were telling me a why for their own purposes, and I had to go and make sure that I had the whole story, and that I didn't lie on their back because trust me when the story about the press secretary lying came out the next day, the guy who lied to me, wasn't going to raise his hand and said, I told them that some of its self preservation, but it's, it's really an important element of the job are another role you define in the columnists, chief risk management, officer. How does that work? There's a phrase of seeing around the corner, seeing where stories going before even the media knows it's going there. It's a skill that's hard to describe win. Reporter ask you a question. You not only know what question he's Asher. You know why he's asked to because you know where he's going with the follow up. So your first answer has to -ticipant the second third question. Otherwise, the reporters who were awfully right? We'll have boxed you into a corner. No, it's it is. But I mean it's not it is not brain surgery. But it requires a certain way of thinking the second part of is getting the president ready to do the same thing. And I don't get the sense that this happens in the Trump administration, but every time Bill Clinton, who by any measure, whether you love them, or you hate him is a great communicator. He just has a way of talking not in fancy language, but in language that people understand. And, and get the sense that there, he's talking to them, it's a gift. But every time he went out, even when he was not supposed to take questions. We do a session with him. And I would just say here, the three questions I think you'll get I know you're not taking questions today and I'd roll my eyes because I knew he wanted to and was going to, and we'd go through, and I'd say, you know, Mr President, what do you think about gas prices going up five percent in the last week? He'd give an answer. And we we talk about it. And we digest it, one of the important jobs for me was to be an agitator because your first answer in politics, not the best answer, because your first answer is emotional. And, you know, I would go in, and if you think reporters can ask a hard question you should see how I learned how to ask questions to know everybody to push and then some of this political stuff, particularly when you're president is being investigated you just go in and he would take your head off and give the answer. And I would stop and pause and say, that's, that's a really good answer. I have a suggestion about a different way to answer that question. If you're willing to listen and he'd kinda laugh and say, okay, and then we talk through. That's great. You feel that way about it. Now, let's talk about how you're gonna answer the question to not make things worse than they are. So it really is understanding from a media point of view. Where are the roadblocks? Where are the hurdles where's the risk? What's the risk of saying this for saying that, and it playing out over the long term again? I'm just sitting looking from the outside. I generally think the this White House, does it the other way which is Trump says, whatever he's wants and they run around behind it trying to mitigate or it's splaying, and they've almost given up explaining Sean Spicer finally realize that the way he could save himself was with the following phrase. The tweets speaks for itself. The president tweeted this morning that the sun rose in the west. And Shawn's answer would be the tweet speaks for itself. Does the president believe he sun actually rose on the west because did rise in these the tweets speaks for itself? It was a point of survival in some ways slightly humiliating for them to do that. But it was better than lying. This is a just a personal looking at Sean always looked uncomfortable when he knew he was crossing the line Sarah seem happy to jump over that line. And repeat whatever the president said, and that's it had consequences for her for the country and going forward. It has consequences for how our whole system works, and I certainly hope that we make a change in the oval and the next person's committed to doing things the way we did. I'm back in the day..

"They were both overseas in France, marking the seventy fifth anniversary of d day at one point, the president did a TV interview lashed out at speaker, Pelosi calling her quote, nasty vindictive horrible person for telling lawmakers she wanted him to go to prison tonight, in an interview with C N N's freed Sakari at the council on foreign relations here in New York, speaker, Pelosi said it was quote beyond an appropriate what he said. She also said this. We were right there in Normandy, with the tombstones behind us and the rest. So I just wasn't going to engage in it, but it never do anyway. It's our practice when he then came onto later in front of the same tombstones started saying all this stuff. It was so beyond inappropriate. I felt really sorry for him. And beyond inappropriate felt sorry for him. She says, Chris Cuomo joins me now upwards from Nancy Pelosi. It's also interesting on this day that Sarah Sanders is leaving. I don't know what hands Sanders had in setting up that interview with tombstones in the background knowing the president would say what he was going to say. Well, look, I think that's a pretty tough job. You don't really know when he's going to do what he's going to do. And even why I think look, I think the puzzle for the Democrats is, how do you balance calling out what you must do something we struggled with also from time to time what do you expose what do you ignore? And then for the Democrats, how do they motivate their understanding of this president into the agenda for Biden you hear him saying now he's a threat to national security? That's what you're hearing Democrats say about this president, he's a threat to the country's a threat to national security. Is that salable with the American people? Nancy Pelosi is going the poignancy. Route of I feel sorry for him. I wonder if she actually does. I don't know that any of them actually feel sorry for him. But what they should feel sorry for is the complete an action that this dynamic has yielded. Yeah. What do you come tonight? What do you got? So we got Andrew McCabe, the man who took over for Jim Komi whence. He got ousted, what does he think of the president's words? What does he think about investigating the investigators that's dig into a little bit about what he will reveal about the motivations of people at that time? And here's a provocative question. If God forbid Russia were successful and interfering again, and they seem to help the Trump campaign would this DOJ would this AG even open an investigation. What does McCabe think about that? We'll ask him and is an interesting question. Chris, thanks very much. We'll see about eight minutes from now. Breaking news,.

"And I talked to a White House official earlier this afternoon, who said, you know, listen, Sarah Sanders in planning this for some time she said this data while ago. And so this was not a huge surprise to people inside the White House. You know, we saw Sarah Sanders talking to reporters just a short while ago. She said her immediate plans are to move back to Arkansas. We saw the president say that he hopes that she runs for political office. You says she has no plans for that this point, but she's not ruling it out. But Anderson, we've had to press secretary so far Sean Spicer now Sarah Sanders. I think both have left a legacy of not being straight with the American people. And we just have to hope not only as journalists, but as citizens that the third dry charm, glory, I'd ask, who's going to take over press briefings, but there hasn't been a press briefing, ninety four days, which is, again, just remarkable. It is you're marketable, and it almost doesn't matter who takes over. Over Sarah Sanders job or who goes before the podium, if anybody ever goes before the podium, again, because this is a president who believes that nobody can talk to the American people as well as he can. He doesn't trust anybody to do it, which is why you haven't seen Sarah Sanders out there very much. You've seen the president in front of his helicopter or on his way to Andrews press conference. No, no. But he thinks what you get me. So isn't that better than getting somebody like, Sarah Sanders? So he doesn't really understand the role of what the press secretary is supposed to be the press secretary works for the government and the American people. And not just Donald Trump David Muir centers has been caught lying from the podium number of times. She's in the Miller report as admitting when she said that countless members, I had called her in another statement in that same genre. Is that is that going to be her legacy lying repeatedly for this president because it certainly Sean Spicer's legacy. And I don't know what he's. Doing for job. But I, I would find it hard to believe that a major corporation or you know, group would have Sarah Sanders as a spokesperson. So, so here's the problem. If you are the spokesperson for a bitch Aligarh, it's like being fire, marshal for pyro maniac. You know it's not going to end well for you. And the, the fact of the matter is that I thought she was a spectacular surrogate for Donald Trump in the campaign. But in this job, she was called upon to choose between her fidelity to Trump and fidelity to the truth. And she chose Trump that actually may help her in a Republican primary in Arkansas. But as far as their legacy goes her legacy is as been described here. I mean, her legacy is one of defending the indefensible and not being truthful with the American people. Jim, I want to play an exchange between you and Sarah Sanders. I think it's from back in August of twenty you did not say in the course of those remarks that you just made. That the press is not the enemy of the people are we gonna take it from what you just said. We all get put through the ringer, we all get putting the meat grinder in this town, and you're no exception. But for the sake of this, this room, that people who are in this room, this, democracy, this country, all the people around the world are watching what you're saying, Sarah, and the White House for the United States of America. The president United station, not referred to us as the enemy of the people his own daughter acknowledges that all, I'm asking you to do sir is to acknowledge that right now. And right here I appreciate your passion. I share it. I've addressed this question. I've addressed my personal feelings. I'm here to speak on behalf of the president. He's made his comments clear. It seemed like at some point she forgot the press part of her title of press secretary. Yeah. That's right Anderson, I think she really acted as another employee of the Trump organization and as David and Gloria were just saying if you moments ago when you work as press secretary you work on behalf of the American taxpayers, and we should just not be in the business..

"I think it's important that you've don't give up one thing for the other because I think having that balances very important, and and my kids getting to see that. Ramp reaction. So I heard that as well, Erin, and I had a couple of reactions the first one, I'm a working mom myself as you are as there are millions of us in this country. So I do agree with her that there is absolutely a always a work life balance that you have to achieve and that you know, she says she feels the mommy guild. We all feel the mommy guilt when we leave our houses. And and yes, I give her that. Here's the problem with what I had about her saying that to her little girl. She feels it's important that she the her little girl feels that women can achieve everything. Yes, I agree with that too. But Sarah Sanders is going to have to own up to the fact that years from now, she her little girl is going to understand who Donald Trump was and the way that he treated treated women, not just in the White House, but throughout his whole life. How massage misogynistic he has been the kind of language he has used the access Hollywood tape about how he thinks he? Could grab women's genitals. Because he's a celebrity and do nothing about it. I think those are the kinds of things that at some point Sarah Sanders and everybody who believes that Trump is is in this White House to do great things, regardless of whatever else he has done. They're going to have to face themselves face their children and look in the mirror, and and look at what they have done to empower this kind of presidency who frankly as a mother I feel ashamed of who he is. And he will never be a role model to my children, or frankly, the millions of children that are out there at both in the country and in the world, Scott, do you see Apocrypha what Sarah said? Listen to Sarah Sanders words today and first of all I'd like to salute Maria, and you end my wife, who's at home with our four children all these working mothers taking care of these kids doing the best they can do their job and take care of their families in their households. I salute you, it's why I'm able to sit here and Cambridge tonight. And you know, do this stuff that I do appear at the university. But when I hear Sarah Sanders talk about feeling guilty when she has to leave for kids. I feel that same twinge when I leave home, and I have to tell my kids, I'm not going to be home for a couple of days. I don't think it's just mommy guilt. I think it's all parents who were doing their level best to work and take care of their kids feel that same kind of paint, and she's expressing that paint. And I don't understand how anybody could be outraged that anybody would wanna show their kids. I love you. I miss you. And I want to involve you in my life. Now, I'm trying to raise my cat. You have to judge a presidency. Yeah. They will do this. Trump and that may not. But that's what I'm trying to do. And I think that's what stairs trying to get it..

"So. Sarah Sanders released like a big tweet statement about it saying, the President Trump believes in a free press, blah, blah, blah, but we will not tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern. Because this poor check was trying to get the microphone from Jim Acosta. She tried three times by the third time. She stuck her hand in there. And he knocked it out of the way. And there's gotta be other people. Besides just even her. There's gotta be other people in the room her like, hey, you know, I'd like to ask a question. I mean is there not anybody else? Besides that guy sucking up to Jimmy Kozulin spread to Mr.. He's nice. We had dinner one. I mean, give me a break when he asked if I may Mr President, and when the president after what fourteen questions that he's I know it's not even questions after he's argued with them for what five minutes, and he says if I may Mr President and the president says, no you may not that's that's your time to sit down. That's exactly right and give up the microphone to the girl whose job it is to take it from you don't withhold it twice. So that she's forced to then try a her other hand to get it. And then you knock it away. Now that video is going everywhere. Right. And Sarah Sanders, actually used it in part of her statement to say, this is the kind of behavior that we're not gonna tolerate and it's conduct that is absolutely unacceptable, and they wouldn't have done it to Obama. No, there's no reporter that has ever behaved in this now gusting to Obama. They wouldn't have done it to George W they wouldn't have done it to Clinton. They wouldn't have done it to anybody else. But they feel like they. They can do this to Trump, and they do it to Trump on the left is like, oh, this is totally acceptable. And it's like freedom of speech. Freedom of the press is buzz. No, you're doing it to Trump because you feel like you, can you can't. And what's amazing is if you I mean, if you listen to that audio Trump was very polite at the beginning of that, even though the question was so inappropriate. He was very plain said we have a difference of opinion about we do. And that's it. And he was idea, but your commercial you use the migrant. Yeah. Did you think they were actors? No, they were not. And it doesn't matter. How far away line is? They're never gonna agree. Right. Wasn't a question as much as it was an argument, and he was trying to bait him into an argument because he is an attention whore. That's what he is. And if you needed any more proof, this isn't an he then he posted on Twitter a video of himself having his credentials taken away by secret service. Oh. So he's such a Vicki tweets, and he posts this video, and he's very nice. He's very nice and polite to the secret service person whose job, of course, it is to take away his hard pass. But he wrote I've just been denied entrance to the White House secret service. Just informed me I cannot enter the White House grounds for my eight PM hit the US secret service just asked for my credentials to enter the White House as I told the officer. I don't blame him. I know he's just doing his job. I mean gimme a break. He wants this to happen. Oh my God. Living for I've. Absolutely. He is he's dying for this to happen. He's like bathing them to do this. Because he wants to be this guy wants to be the martyr to be the victim. He loves us. He's eating this up. Yeah. And then tweeted or he he responded to Sarah Sanders. Tweet about him placing his hands on the young woman, which is what she said. He said this is a lie. So then the video starts getting tweeted around right, which clearly shows Jim Acosta knocking this girl's arm out of the way. Now, he says, pardon me, ma'am, as he's doing it. But he had absolutely no business withholding that microphone when it was her job and her third attempt to take it from him. And so for him to say, it's a lie and then for other people to claim that Sarah Sanders. Posting a doctor.

But they were asking them question that they knew or they thought or they hoped would make him look bad or that was negative towards him. Right. That's why he gets himself in trouble because he has to answer every question. Yeah. But I kind of love that. I he I mean, we wanna transparency man, we got it. Yeah. Well, because Trump likes him and Trump helpful right? What what are they going to be now? Sarah Sanders released the the agenda items, they're going to talk about manufacturing resurgence, which as you know. "Problems stating facts, no, John, Sarah. You probably do. Okay. Actually this. This could be the basis. I imagine for a sitcom is a female White House press secretary and a really really annoying White House. Reporter who secretly have something. I'm not suggesting anything here. God forbid that Sarah Sanders wouldn't and in fact her father's coming on the show tomorrow. So I don't wanna oh governor Huckabee your Vaughan with that. He just said your daughter was having. No, I did not. I did not. I'm just suggesting that I'm sure some Hollywood writer could be working on that plot right now. A meanwhile, Melissa Milano speaking of TV sitcoms. Said she couldn't sleep. And and then she was on, Sarah Sanders, and Jim Acosta and reaction. This was on MSNBC, I filled with a lot of rage today. I have to tell you. And it started last night. And I couldn't sleep at all last night. And I can't believe that this is where we are that we are making distinct choices about who we want to be as a country. We are making distinct choices of the people that we are putting in positions of power, whether it be Trump or Cavanaugh or our institutions sexual abuse has been institutionalized in this country. And it is heartbreaking for me. And I just don't think we could allow another generation of women and children to feel as though their government is not listening that doesn't care that they are invisible and filled with rage for for Sarah. Just go on and say, you know, he was just stating the facts. Well, I mean, the sky is blue I can state that fact, but if I do it totally a little off like the sky is blue I'm mocking someone that may have said that. So so tone is everything right now, and we are making a choice and the Republican party is making choice to back. This man. This ministration in this time right now, right here and history will reflect upon this time as being devastating, but I will tell.

"Oh six on your. Wakeup call KFI AM. Six forty more stimulating, talk let's say Hello to ABC's Karen Travers at the White House this, morning Karen he did nothing wrong no, charges against him those were the words from White House, press secretary Sarah Sanders yesterday regarding, President Trump after. Michael Cohen's admission that he in fact did make illegal campaign contributions over and over And over again to every type of question. That's what Sarah Sanders said president did nothing. Wrong and he has no charges, and the president continues to defend himself as well he he did a very lengthy. Interview with Fox News and he was asked specifically about the payments that Michael Cohen says the president. Directed him to make to stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal the president says he made the deals, he also says he, only knew about the. Payments after they were made but of course there's that recording that, Cohen says is a he and the president in September of two thousand sixteen talking about the deal to pay care McDougal. So ahead of making. That payment which Cohen says president told him to. Do and I'm. Sure. That his. Defense is going to be yeah maybe we talked about it. But I didn't know that he'd actually made the payment and even going, that. Far I mean he's. Still insisting he only. Knew about it later on essentially brushing. Off the. Audio recording. The White House was asked about this yesterday and Sarah Sanders just said we talked about this extensively and wasn't I'm. Going to add more but they're not clarifying that did the president is he lying is. Misleading the public when he says he knew about, this later on if there, is this recording where it's seems to be talking. About, it ahead of it now there's there's nothing illegal I guess with paying somebody hush money just you know get new, who no matter who you are you get them off your back paying hush money is that's okay but. It just comes to whether it from where the funds came right well. And it's not, even where the funds came from because the president is saying this didn't come from the campaign and he's kind of suggesting well if it wasn't. A checking account labeled Trump campaign, then it's fine and that's not true federal, law restricts how much individuals can donate to a campaign, so, that's the first part of, it because Michael Cohen is the one that made this payment the president reimbursed him. For it, so the president says you know I I repeat him so there's nothing wrong there but. There's also the issue of disclosure and the Trump campaign. The president Michael, Cohen didn't disclose these payments were going Back and forth and the. Repayment, and yesterday, my colleagues Celia Vega asked the White House, simply if you did nothing wrong the president didn't do anything wrong. And this is off fine why not disclose it Sarah Sanders win answer that, okay now when it comes to just as reaction overall there's been such a, big difference in the way that he has treated Paul Manafort, and, the way that he has treated Michael Cohen Manafort, he keeps talking. About like wow I'm. So sad about this this is so awful for his family. And for him even though this is. Just the beginning of manafort's legal troubles on the other, hand you know he sings like. Little songbird and it's, like Trump, has, just cut him, off at the knees like, on you know this guy's a horrible guy but I did nothing wrong. They're still no collusion here is there any I guess the what's the reaction to that the fat people are looking at the rate he's talking about. Paul Manafort and, such sympathetic ta you know this is a strong signed to manafort's lawyers that. Pardon could be president is not saying explicitly if he's considering that the White House says Sarah Sanders said yesterday that she's not aware of any conversations, but that certainly seems to be. A possibility given the president's. Tone he also seems? To be making this big. Contrast. Between Michael Cohen making a deal you know is, the president was kind of selling him out by saying something bad about the president and getting himself out of trouble and he said. That Manafort didn't do that and, he, has a lot of respect. For him because he's a brave man Manafort hasn't yet, but as you say manafort's still in trouble he has another. Trial coming up in, September in, Washington that looks about whether he had not registered as a foreign agent working with foreign agents and you, know there's, still a lot more that, could drop when it comes. To Paul Manafort he's also. Somebody that has Been under. Incredible pressure from prosecutors, on the question of collusion and any contacts with Russian officials Paul Manafort. Who has the relationships with Russian businessmen who worked, for Ukrainian, politicians and certainly has had much more exposure on that particular issue yeah in the if the. Charges continue or the the convictions continue to, pile up against Manafort I mean there's a potential that this, guy could end up dying in prison it's. Not like he's you, know twenty years old and these charges are going against him Michael Cohen on the. "I think the more important message is the message the president offered i when he spoke with michael cohen whatever that was about a week and a half ago i would love to know what was in that conversation even a fairly benign sentence like don't worry this'll all end up okay after the pardoning of scooter liberty and after what the white house has been saying about pardons recently how would you interpret that if you're michael cohen i think the story is bigger though jim if we see a move in the direction of pardoning of michael cohen would you think if you're in the special counsel's office and you're heading maybe toward further indictments of people in the white house whether it's the president's son or the son in law i think if you're a special counsel you're saying we'd better document everything because eventually if anybody else gets gets pardoned those documents will go to congress and congress is going to have to determine what to do if the justice department can't prosecute anybody because the president pardons jeffer juvenile sarah sanders was asked this morning on why the president was tweeting all the sudden about jack johnson here's how she answered by talking about jack johnson squid including party is that something that's been on the table for quite some time nothing michael kovac call to place to my i'm trying to remember it was probably close to a month ago so this is something that's been ongoing i told you about it this weekend because we're getting close to the second conversation on that front so jeffrey toobin your lawyer do you see anything interesting or anything raise questions about the timing of that tweet decision on scooter.
