Reporter Jeffrey Goldberg Addresses Trump’s “Loser” Remarks, Talks Using Anonymous Sources
"It has been a rough Labor Day weekend and the trump. White House where officials are absolutely full out freaking out about Thursday. Night's report in the Atlantic that trump had characterized Americans who died in war losers and suckers trump has spent the past four days repeatedly nine the story marshalling all kinds of people to. Come forward to knock it down he insisted today the quote an animal would say thing that the White House trotted out figures like Sarah Sanders who we know is lied to reporters multiple times to claim the report isn't true because they were there when trump didn't say the terrible things he allegedly said take they're hoping you don't think about that formulation too much. The main problem for the White House here is that the evidence supporting the story is pretty obvious and clear and almost overwhelming to anyone not inside the trump reality distortion bubble. The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg reported that trump cancelled a visit to an American military cemetery near Paris back in two thousand eighteen partially because he worried his hair would become disheveled in the rain and partially because he did not respect the American war dead interred there. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the schedule visit trump said, why should I go to that cemetery? It's filled with losers in a separate conversation on the same trip trump preferred to the more than eighteen hundred marines who lost their lives at Bellawood as suckers for getting killed. Now, the sources in the story are anonymous you know anonymous sources are not as. Good. As name sources when you're evaluating something, but it doesn't mean that the claims came in on some anonymous tip line that no one knows where they came from. It means a reporter in this case, Jeffrey Goldberg spoke to people directly interviewed them and has agreed not to identify them in the story Jeffrey. Goldberg, will be here with me to talk about that in just a moment. His initial story has now been confirmed in part or in its entirety by reporters at. All okay. Remarkably a correspondent at Fox News included in that lineup whom trump promptly called on the network to fire. Some of those corroborating stories included even more damning details about the president like this one from the Washington Post quote the president told senior advisors that he didn't understand why the US government plays such value on finding soldiers missing in action because they had performed poorly and gotten caught and deserve what they got and this from the New York Times people familiar Mr Trump's private conversations saying he has long scorned those who served in Vietnam as being too dumb to have gotten out of it as he did through medical diagnosis of bone spurs in his heels. Back in two thousand, nineteen trump's former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen testified the trump admitted to faking those bonds first telling cone quote you think I'm stupid I wasn't going to Vietnam. There's even more evidence that trump view soldiers at stupid or suckers Mary trump the president's knees wrote in a recent book that trump and threatened to disown his eldest son if don Jr. joined the military. She also says that her own Father Fred trump junior was mocked by donald trump because he fred trump junior decided to join the US air. National. Guard quote my father was frequently ridiculed for his career choices and disparaged for serving our country by both his father and by his brother Donald. Then, there's the fact that pretty much none of trump's top military officials past and present are backing the president up. I mean you really can't find anyone who's stepping forward to defend his character save he would never say anything like that they aren't disputing the story instead that's been left talking heads and former flax and loyalists. That's maybe not a huge surprise because trump allegedly said about all US servicemembers, hues very closely to what he said back in two thousand fifteen about one particular veteran Senator John McCain. War here or euro he's a war hero years he's a war hero presumes captured. I like people that weren't captured. Okay I hate to. John. McCain was prisoner of war in Vietnam for five years host. Donald Trump avoided that war had a different experience in an interview in the nineties. He characterized his efforts to avoid transmitted diseases while sleeping with numerous women as quote, my personal Vietnam. An. Event with Union members today Joe Biden lambasted the president's comments an invoked zone Sun Beau who served in Iraq and then died from a brain tumor in two thousand fifteen. Those of served. Risk, their lives even gave their lives, our nation losers suckers. He's our heroes. Tell you something. My Bowl wasn't loser. For A sucker if that's I, talk about our veterans, you have no business being president of the United States of America. What's being entered into the record here to take a step back and look at all the evidence about Donald Trump. Shocking. Morally offensive. It's not surprising. It's about what we have come to expect. But. One big question that keeps pulling on my shoulders. Why are we learning about this now? What does it mean that we are? For more on that and the fallout from his incredible reporting joined by Jeffrey Goldberg He's the Editor in chief of the Atlantic and I jeff, maybe I start a little bit with. The reaction to this story from the White House you. There are stories that come out all the time about the president that are fairly scandalous incredibly scandalous. And one time they said it's fake news and they swatted away or the new cycle moved on, they do seem particularly freaked out. About this reporting. An particularly intent on attacking it what what is your sort of reading of the last three or four days of their reaction? Well he's a good question. First thing I would say is that. This is not an attack on these are not reports of an attack on site immigrants or black people or or something like that we expect from Donald Trump and something that his base might actually help him with his base. This could hurt him with his with his base You know the the the second thing is I. Think there's a lot of. Nervousness in the White House and again I won't I'm not commenting on anything having to do with my sourcing or other reporter's saw sourcing Fox. Washington Post whatever. I'm you know there's a there's a deep hostility and mistrust in the White House of. Current and former generals people who lead the military. We saw that today Donald Trump did something that I. I've never seen before he attacked his own a service chiefs. He attacked his own leaders of the Armed Forces on call? Them. I mean, even in the even in this sort of an Tasma, we are twenty twenty race that's still something but I think it has to do with the fact that This is the kind of accusation that sounds believable in also goes directly to. A core constituency that Donald trump obviously needs to Keep energized come November. Yeah we we should note that there's there's been polling of of active duty servicemembers in which he's he's underwater with them There's been an interesting sort of officer enlisted split, but he's been losing ground even with a enlisted members. He's gone for a net positive nine points and Net net net negative twelve points. You can see that there. That's the latest military times pulling. You just mentioned what he said today was pretty remarkable. Briefly, sort of like channeling kind of like left anti-imperialism vis-a-vis his own service chiefs although it's completely like made up and fabricated because he. In the next breath, he's constantly bragging about how big the Pentagon budget is and how Raytheon is making off like a bandit. So but I wanNA play that clip just to get your response to it take a listen to what he said. I'm not saying that military in love with me to soldiers are the top people in the Pentagon probably aren't because they want to do nothing but fight wars so that all of those wonderful companies that make the bombs and make the planes and everything else they. Happy. But we're getting out of the endless wars you know how we're doing. But here's the thing Jeff. They're not this drives me insane the where we have expanded our footprint, we've expanded bombings all the theaters, and this is an absolute con-. This idea that the Great Antiwar Donald Trump has some revolt on his hands on the generals. As, you will know the generals are usually more hesitant to go to war than not usually often more has to go to war than than civilian leaders for some obvious reasons. No, this was remarkable i. mean he sort of channeling. Start Sixty Bob Dylan lyrics here I pointed out on a show media today it's It's quite remarkable given that tomorrow there's a pretty good chance that he'll brag about how much money he's spending on military hardware, and of course, as you know, he's deeply transactional in love it when when foreign countries by our military equipment. So if you're looking for consistency in that particular clip, you're you're looking forward it in the wrong place it doesn't make sense in any kind of traditional understanding of of politics.
Anthony Scaramucci bragged about the first time he took 'a huge s---' in the White House, according to Sarah Sanders' new book
"Is part of Sanders. Upcoming Book and Axios, Jonathan Swan, big name and political reporting. Axios got an excerpt from Sarah Sanders book and tweeted it out. And this is it while we were in the staff vans and route to the jamboree. This is a Boy Scout jamboree that Trump spoke out. Remember? While we were in the staff vans and round to the jamboree, Mooch announced. I'm proud to report I crossed a major item off my bucket list today. I assumed that he would say something like riding on Air Force One, but instead much said that he had taken Aah! Huge Blank. In the West Wing. The rest of us in the van. Sat there speechless as the what was that? Yeah, I guess I could use a sound effect. Yeah, yeah. Or you know Yeah, there it is of they sat there speechless. As the mooch proudly told us. They didn't immediately call this son afterward to share the big news. That's gross. That's flat out. That's pretty disgusting. So to West Wing and White House toilet stories now within just a couple of weeks,
Trump Denies Calling Fallen Soldiers ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers’
"Trump is strongly denying reporting in the Atlantic that said the president allegedly made disparaging comments against fallen soldiers, especially since I think that anybody help military ABC News White House correspondent Karen Travers is with us, Karen This is an unusually vehement denial fromthe White House, isn't it? Yes, it is. And I was there last night at joint base. Andrews when the president came back in Pennsylvania at that rally there, and he came off the plane and literally like marched over to us. It was dark. There is a loud noise from the plane ended on the president spoke for about seven minutes to take any questions. He just ranted about this piece in the Atlantic. He was fired up, and he emphatically denied these explosive allegations that he made disparaging remarks. Stop falling soldier. He said he'd be willing to swear on anything that never said about our fallen heroes, he said. There's nobody that respects the more. The White House was very quick last night after the peace broke to say this was not true, several officials who were on the trip with the president Clued in the former press secretary Sarah Sanders saying she was there that did not happen. But, you know, I think now there could be some pressure for whoever the source is. Work. Go public. You know, I think the White House is a valid point that this is this is going to only be anonymous sources saying this they feel this smear campaign against the president. For those who haven't heard Karen. What are the allegations specifically? Yeah. The allegations that piece in the Atlantic say that the president called Americans who died during war, losers and suckers that he stepped away from doing a visit to a cemetery for U. S soldiers in France because he didn't think it was important to go there. There are four people in the article that say they have firsthand knowledge of this, but they're not me. I should also note. We have not confirmed the details from the Atlantic and there was a piece I believe in The Washington post later. Or the that said that they had confirmed some of these things. There's also a lot about in the Manning case about the president speaking ill of John McCain before in public that isn't necessarily something new. But president last night, will even denying that he'd ever called John McCain, a loser he had publicly on DH talks about all he did. Became funeral, even though they disagreed and did not get along. Where the fake Trump media massacre video came from, and other things to know about it
"All right so for those of you that might not be totally into this story or understanding where it's come from this was totally trending on twitter all day a and it just so happens that I spoke at the conference where this is the center of controversy so there was a horrific museum video where you're donald trump massacres fake news media now essentially there's these videos that go around and there's this community of people that love the president so much they'll take popular videos superimpose the face of Donald trump onto somebody kickboxing or somebody with a lightsaber fighting people they disagree with so I guess the most this one was the CNN which with precise which was the body slam when the wwe one because the president shared that one and so this particular video was from the movies kingsman which is about the British Secret Service or something starring Colin Firth actually doesn't fourteen. I've never enjoyed those movies I it's called the dark comedy only for some people only some people very cheesy I never liked that movie right somehow killing people's funny but no there is a whole genre it appeals to a certain the demographics never liked the not Nora Nora I've tried to watch it a couple times is just not really my my genre so anyway this memoir so those that don't seem to have to define what a menas because we do have some people okay so mean is what is the best way to find a mean kind of like when you know it Ben Johnson Adam Benny Johnson chief creative officer turning point USA so look amine is a picture or a video that satirizes or explains an issue in a short sound bite that usually his comedy or uses wit I guess that's a good way to put it that it turns it on its head flips it sure Iran nick insightful. Almost here's the best way I can describe it it's the Internet's equivalent of political cartoons that a good way to put it share okay a modern digital essentially this scene in kingsman which I don't understand how this scene was really funnier incite fuller enjoyable the watch but allegedly there was a scene where somebody walks into a church and kills a bunch of people that was the scene Church massacre and they superimposed Donald Trump's face to be the guy that's killing everyone and then he's killing the fake news media CNN MSNBC as well as Democrats like Barack Obama Nancy Pelosi unless we totally denounces videos unequivocally and totally I don't think it's funny to show violence against other people I think it's it's not my not my taste I don't think it's funny people I find that Kinda dark humor interesting I'm not one of those people however he let's just get through some facts they say this was shown at the president's Miami resort so all of the media covering this is insinuating as if the president approved this or this was at his resort he didn't at all okay so I was at this event it was a unique event it was one with a lot of energy and a lot of people that were really excited to be there and Donald Trump junior Sarah Sanders governor on descent data's thankful to be invited you know so this video is shown in a side room in a breakout room against a wall in a very kind of make shift CAPAC- acidy and Don Jr. Ron to Santa Sarah Sanders myself and Corey Lewandowski knew nothing of it we didn't know about this until the news actually broke and now we're being lumped into this I might have spent forty minutes at this event basically the entire time I was at the event was when I was speaking in and out and Laura Ingraham that night and then I flew to Detroit super early the next morning I didn't hang around it was not but they're acting as if we were behind this entire thing the headlines are all all sort of inferring it's like Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Donald trump junior charlie kirk and this
"sarah sanders" Discussed on CATS Roundtable
"Good Morning America this is the Catch Roundtable John Katzman. Td's here Sunday morning what's happening well we're just this morning is Sarah Huckabee Resendiz she spent two years White House Her father was governor of Arkansas and Good Morning Sarah Huckabee politics and news and now you're also a commentator for Fox how's that gone so far I'm loving it you know it's been great the Fox family has is welcomed me in and I'm really joined it's Kinda fun at different to be on the other side which is nice for a change having a great time really love getting to know and work with other people at Fox News the big story of the week is the constance going on in Washington all over again I started the beginning you two week that the New York Times came out with the story that there might be another woman against justice cavenaugh and then they will find out that that woman and is really not they're not really real and then they picked another subject on Ukraine talk to US about Washington and talk to us you spend two years in that White House taking that punishment talk to us about it I mean I think what's happening is is incredibly sad I mean he's the Democrats have decided that they hate the president more than they love the country and they have decided that the the only way to win in twenty twenty is to destroy the president they don't care who gets in the way in the process I think it's a dangerous way for us the duct politics it's a dangerous way to engage in election and I think that frankly it's backfiring on Democrats what they've done in this whole Ukraine scandal is you know the same playbook they did with Russia they spent two years trying to accuse the president of something found out it wasn't real and now they're looking for their next big thing to attack him on and this is what they've chosen you know I think the big loser in all this is Joe Biden because so far all we're seeing and the only person we're seeing that could've done something inappropriate in terms of negotiating what Ukraine is him well I I've seen the comments Joe Biden has made On some of the tapes from a few years ago where he was actually bragging that he made the Ukrainian means fire there I guess yeah prosecutor otherwise he was going to withhold the money from the Ukraine I mean isn't that outraged I don't people when they see that he set it on his own mouth saying anything I wish I could say it surprising but it's because well that's the mantra of the Democrat Party they will stop at nothing to defeat the president I mean you're seeing every single day the accusations they make again the town and the sad part is is the media is is playing right into giving them a huge platform from which to attack the President if if it wasn't donald trump I don't know that anybody else could withstand these type of attacks and still be on his feet and keep fighting back I mean he's a tough guy it's just he shouldn't have to go through this process and I think he's right when he says that no other president should have to go through this and hopefully they won't hopefully the Democrats will learn because I do think it is backfiring I think this is going to do nothing more than rally the president's face and get more people to come out and support him if money and ultimately helped him get reelected in twenty twenty we both grew up years ago where we respected our constitution we affected our way of life when when the discharge word was it under President Obama I don't know that it was any one moment I think it's been a collective of us as a society starting to stop respecting one another we've stopped valuing life I think that is one of the things that makes America different it's one of the things that makes America special and unique and sets us apart art from other countries is we are a country that values whether you're in the womb of the mother or whether you're a ninety year old in the Nursing Home we value Y and yeah and we find that each one has vowed has has worth and mean something and when we stopped doing that and we stopped caring about one another I think that's when the little things start to turn into a really big things and we ended up in the position that we are today I think we have to go back to looking at how we you know in marriage and family structure instead of discourage it and figure out how to help people really care about one another now Let's talk about twenty twenty four few minutes The elections coming up there are fifteen twenty people running even Democrats Nick election the primaries what's your gut feeling your this is is somebody going to rise to the top I think the only person that sort of been on a steady inclined and continuing to gain Roman and the game supports it seems and I think that there couldn't be better news for president trump I think that she has moved so far to the left that ah in in the way that she wants to fix the country that I think that it will certainly help re elect the president you know it's interesting if you look at some the things that she's talking about some things the president is talking about of what the problems in this country are they actually have identified a lot of the same problems but listen to how they want to solve them couldn't find a more stark contrast in between the two of them and I think that you know the far left radical ideas he's bringing to the table or just not going to sell and most of America and I think that that is a great thing for the president frankly it's a good thing for the country because I think it helps make sure we get four years under this President I is it possible that the democratic process will I mean out of the settlers seventeen people running and it seems like the only real moderate one was biden but he's got other problems and the other sixteen off off off Florida socialist or left the Democrats really really ready to to pick out a presidential candidate like that I it sure looks like it though seem to be the only people that are gaining any traction and and I I'm sure that once they become the nominee either gonna make it the big attempt to try to move back to the middle but in order to get through the Democrat Party our primary there so beholden to this far left wing part of the the end of the squad that they're trying to piece them and I think it's GonNa be impossible to come back to the middle and try to regain some of those independent voters I and you know some of the people like it was I don't think she wants to come back to the middle I think she believes that the far left side is right and I think that's a scary thing certain documents from in Washington and Nancy Pelosi just jumps the gun gets up and says impeached President I mean it was were you surprised to I I was I think Pelosi is finally thrown in the towel and she's even up gavel and turned it over to to the left wing of the Party and you know it'll be interesting to see how it plays out I think she's tried keep everybody controlled and maintained over the course of the last several months but eventually the dam is broken and the floodgates opened up and I don't think they can put this back in the bottle and so it is again I think it is there's no support out there amongst rank them foul voters across the country whether they're Democrat or Republican or independent and I think that this is ultimately going to backfire and and just further fuel the president's campaign reelection in November of twenty twenty and doesn't seem like any of the moderate Democrats have the courage to stand up and already have a say in a vote in a voice then they somehow will lose their position and again I think it is really telling but also very sad what has happened to the Democrat Party I mean if you look at the type of Democrats we select an Arkansas I can't imagine.

"To shoot in your, your point is really. I mean, nobody can really visualize. What a trillion dollars actually means and the president should do that. And I think he can do that. A lot of ways, in example, I mean, we have federal oversight for education. We do that in every state every day, why do we need to spend sixty billion dollars a year, doubling up? I mean, over the course of ten years the savings of trillion dollars. I mean, Bill Clinton had a balanced budget. At one point where we going here. Right now. Even Trump has a seven hundred eighty million dollar deficit as right now. Now he will come out ahead appears because he's in his ninth month. I believe you're close to it, but he's gonna come out about five hundred billion so the tax cuts are working. We are collecting more taxes, but we have to become more financially. It'll blow the economy out. We'll have six seven percent GDP. That's the other thing, most people don't even know what Judy p me right? Yep. You know. So here's my question. Because I know you're pressed for time. Sarah Sanders lover to death. She's a great press Secretary, Do you think Trump will refill the position in if he doesn't is it a mistake, because he can get the these what I'm talking about out there through her or someone similar to her. But the problem was she was so much on the defensive all time. Sometimes it was hard to watch. I mean, because the media would just eat her up. She would try to defend and she dealt with him. So more than Sean Spicer ever did. Absolutely. But we need someone with a softer side. You know, people don't like Trump. But your love the United States, I told him the other day he needs to offer to Sean Hannity. So I can get the three o'clock hour. Listen. Yes, he is going to fill it because it's a traditional role and he wants someone there, I don't know who is gonna put in that position. But we can be sure that whoever it is, they're gonna have a very tough time the media super hostile to them. And frankly, the media really, really disgusting in their treatment of Sarah Sanders, not, not willing to recognize. Yes. You're in a difficult situation. We're gonna show you grace under no that they went out of their way to savage her. But, you know, this is consistent, when Tony snow worked for George W Bush, the media hated him. Ari Fleischer never got the fancy gigs that Joe Lockhart. We get or the Meyer or some of the people who work for Bill Clinton, same with Dana Perino, who wound up getting show on FOX, but it was on FOX a favorable favorable outlet. I, I don't know that she could have gotten that at CNN or else, we're out onto the she would have ratings wise and stuff. But you get my point the media likes predators were Democrats rarely do they like presecutor's who worked for Republicans? There really is a in their treatment there. I tell you what I did Saturday afternoon this, this is important. Michael Caldwell is a state Representative. Michael Cole will is the state Representative in the Woodstock area, Michael Caldwell is going to run for the state Senate. He was done with the state house. He term limited himself in the state house. This is one of the sad things is always the good guys who term limit themselves. But he did thankfully, though, he, he is going to run for the state Senate, Brandon beach is running for the six congressional district, which is in that area. And so call was going to run for brand beaches seat now in the state Senate tea is a great great guy, and the people would cycle of I gotta be honest with you. I thought we were going to go to some small get together with some like his top donors and stuff. And, and I was going to speak for a minute and Michael with Simpson know this, there's this park, right? Next referee brewery, there's this park in, in Woodstock in downtown and out bunch of people showed up, young and old showed up. It was it was an impressive turnout for this guy. Who's just he's a state Representative. And he really impressive turnout. I really really liked him to as really good. He's one of the fighters, he's willing to stand up and hold his own side accountable. And so it's great. And so if you're in that area, I know the northern part of alphabet is in the district Woodstock's in the district. I think there, I know can't into the district as well Scott, an odd district north, Fulton Cheerokee county that area is he's a great guy and you need to vote for Michael Caldwell in the state Senate. He's just a phenomenal state rep. He'll be. Lasted the state Senate as well. But it was great to meet a ton of you guys. I was also in Pickens county and there were a ton of people in Pickens county and I got a bone to pick with you. At least thirty people said, why, why are you stop wise? The new stop WSB six now. It's not it's still here is just I, I give up the anchor chair for someone else. Mark Arum market, you're doing news. So stick around the news is still on it. WSB. And there's new you need to ponder right now. I'm gonna do this frequent because only about a minute. We're seeing Harvard toss cow cache of because progressive activists full to were seeing corporations blacklist. And since her conservatives on social media were see in corporations go, I mean, in your face pride month this month. There is no escape and rainbows this month. And you know what I'm more mindful that conservatives who are conservative principle or in the minority now. Probably always happen on the left and the right. The dominant forces are populist forces and the cons- corporations embracing progressive, identity politics have long relied on conservatives to say, you know what even though I don't like it. We're going to restrain ourselves and we're in the minority now what they're going to face a bunch of people on the right who are populous, who were saying, we're going to use the tools of government to punish you because you've tried to punish us and corporations buying into this left wing identity. Ix nonsense. What they're gonna find is that the people who should be their natural allies. Not only are no longer there, natural allies, but they're coming for them. We're seeing this with tech companies were conservatives in congress, who have embraced super populism in the Trump era are now willing to break up tech companies willing to regulate tech companies. It's a really dangerous trend, but it's one, I don't think or perations escape from, they can't help themselves because so many of them are dominant dominated by progressives. They're buying into progressive ideology and the populace on the right. They have no compulsion. No hesitation in coming after these corporations going to get very, very bad. So Harvard Kim say Kyle. You can't come here now because when you were sixteen on a private message, you said something we don't like in progressives don't won't you here. But you can bet. Republican progress Republican populists are going to say, you know what Harvard, we think we need to tax your endowment and give it to the poor kid. The vice president of the United States will be joining me on the radio tomorrow, Sotoudeh. And then and you may or may not see him at a conference here in Atlanta with.

"That Sarah Sanders, she was being interviewed. And of course, her assertion at the beginning was absolute lunacy that if you determine that you're not going to charge someone you have exonerated. And that is absolutely factually incorrect there are times when you are certain that somebody committed a crime, but you don't have sufficient evidence where you believe that you can prove beyond a reasonable doubt, a reasonable doubt that that person is guilty of the crime. It doesn't mean that you are declaring their factual innocence. It is not an exoneration of the individual in the case of of the obstruction Bob feller, specifically stated as is in these summary that it was not an exoneration his decision that he was his non-decision that he was not reaching a conclusion was not an exoneration of the president. He made. Made that clear he stated it specifically. He used the word exonerate. So it does not exonerate Donald Trump. So when Donald Trump's minions begin to spend this in that way, don't fall for it. Look, you don't have to be a partisan to care about what the facts are to care about what the actual truth is in a circumstance, I think all of us want to get to the bottom of it. I think all of us want the truth. The results of the investigation the lack of sufficient evidence to show that there was collusion that there was conspiracy between Donald Trump and his campaign and the Russians that's important, and that's good for Donald Trump. But this thing is not over. There are so many other charges that are being pursued in so many other areas, and none of us have seen the Muller report. We don't know what kind of information is in there. We don't know if there's any exculpatory information in there at all eight hundred eighty eight ten is the telephone. Number. We go to Dan Dan's in Half Moon bay. Hey, dan. Welcome to K G O. Thank you for taking my call. If you'll permit me just a little reminder to some of the folks out there, including you when Robert Muller was given the position of special investigators. This was this was a man who was a former FBI director, and he was universally and bipartisan Lee accepted. Dole sides of the aisle, Democrats and Republicans. And I think he still is okay. It was allowed to continue with the investigation. Trump for this big mouth and a lot of times shoots office mouth. When he shouldn't. There's an old saying sometimes it's better to be silent. Fools and open your mouth and remove all doubt. But he could have fired him if he chose to let the investigation continue to its reclusion, which I think bodes well in that regard now since. Muller finished his investigation. He bar and roses see has all said in. So many different words. There is nothing that they have found that gives them cause to indict the president for criminally impeachable actions. Collusion or obstruction? Why are you saying criminally impeachable? Okay. Where are you including the word impeachable there? Because this is what the Democrats have been talking about on and off for quite some time the war. I mean, there's been more than one elected politician that has stood up in front of the congress and said I want to introduce articles of impeachment against the president of the United States. Right. My point my point is that I believe people like you who obviously disliked Donald Trump in wanna see every possible funny answered question investigated, whether it's through the Muller investigation underlying evidence or what's happening in New York state. I believe from a political perspective that if the Democrats continue to say, they're unsatisfied and are going to take their, own course of action. To get Donald Trump that it's going to come back and bite them in the twenty twenty election. Don't you think that the congress has a responsibility though, to conduct their own investigations into some of these matters, particularly right now, don't you think that Bob Muller should be going before the congress and answering their questions about his investigation? What was uncovered what he found that his purview was what he may have referred to other offices. You know, what the evidence is where that we're uncovered both those that were condemning Trump, and those that were exculpatory don't you think that's important for them to do? Let me answer your question this way, I think the report taking out confidential information, and what national security issues, which should not be released to the public. I think the report needs to be made public. So everyone has a chance to weigh in on it. Now, I agree with you. I mean, I totally agree with you. Right. So in other words, make it clear. No one's got anything to hide that's the bottom line. But my point is that the Democrats have been waiting on pins and needles for the report to come through. And what appears to me, and maybe other fair minded people out there that are not highly prejudiced against Trump. Maybe they finally have come to the conclusion that look this is what we were waiting for Rosenstein bar and Muller don't feel there's enough to proceed with indictments on him and any unsealed further indictments. So let's move on. And let's find other things if we want to. But I believe that the public is saying, you know, what there's nothing that they're gonna pre. Okay. But but Dan, Dan, I I I halfway agree with you. I mean on the one hand. Yeah. There's the Muller reported has been concluded. And there are no further indictments that. Are coming. This Muller report. We don't know what it actually says about the actions of the president of the United States yet when it is revealed at that point in time. Once we've got that in front of us, then you can say, okay, except with Muller report says and move onto the southern district of New York or whatever. But right now, all we know is that they made the determination that there is nothing that is indictable nothing left that they are moving on indictment, thus far it does. It is not an exoneration. They're very well. Meet there, very well may be a lot of evidence that was uncovered in that report that is incredibly damning concerning Donald Trump, and they may even constitute impeachable offenses. We don't know we don't know until we've seen it. The only thing we have seen is a very brief summary of which in the entire summary. There are two statements that come directly from the Muller report itself, and they are neither one of them a full sentence. They are merely phrases the rest of it is the attorney general's summation and his opinion. I mean half of the whole summary was the the attorney general's decision what he based his decision on the obstruction of Justice case. And he made that decision before he was ever appointed attorney general, and he sent that letter to the White House. There's so much more that is coming out, and we need to be aware of that. And there's so much more that we do not know including Donald Trump's connection to Russia his connection through the Moscow project his connection and his sons connection with that memo in Trump Tower. Are I'm sorry with Trump Tower, and then the memo subsequent to that which was alive which Donald Trump helped to draft. Why why? Why lie about it after you wrote it why in the memo itself, you know, these are really important things. They lied Cohen. Lied to the congress about the Moscow project, and how long it took and before he made his testimony. Donald Trump's attorneys cleared. What he was going to say there are still unanswered questions. And some of these questions could be incredibly damning sitting in studio right across from me right now is Mr John Rothman. And I haven't had a chance to talk with you about all of this. Hey, hi, Holly, my colleague, and I miss going on the air with you and talking about so much of this stuff. So do I well we have a lot to talk about tonight. I'll be in at six, of course, and the most important single element here that remains is obstruction of Justice. And one of the things that I think is important is to read the Miller report. Now, the White House is not yet read the Miller report, no celebrations might be a little bit early. But on the other hand what we know is that. When you read the attorney general's letter, the issue, obstruction of Justice is really left wide open. So I'm waiting to see what happens. I used a paraphrase. Winston Churchill this is not the end. It's not the beginning of the end. It's the end of the beginning. Yeah. And there's a lot more. And by the way, one of the Pat, I know you've other questions, but this is not the end all be all issue. Remember that there are innumerable questions about Donald Trump's finances. Right. His relationship with Deutsche Bank, his income tax returns questions. You just raised about curation and who made contributions to the inauguration. It looks as if that was also laundered that came in from Ukraine at least a portion of that. And there's money laundering itself. And all the subpoenas that went out to Deutsche Bank. This. This is not a question of being pro or anti Trump. I think there are still issues that need to be resolved. And frankly until I have read them. Report. I don't know. Whether there are other things in the report, which may be clear, but one thing was established, Pat, and that is the Russians did interfere in the American election. Yeah. And is the president going to call for action against Russia as a result, the president has yet to admit that Russia intervened in the election. He's still talks about other people. So there's a lot to talk about tonight. I will do all of that. And I'll get all the comments from everybody in the we'll see how it goes one of the things that you and I appearing together or separately. One of the things that constantly were facing our questions from listeners who want to know will we accept the results of the Muller report? And I'm here to tell you, I I'm willing to accept it not the summary by by Bill bar because that's not the Muller report. But when the Muller report, you know, if it's revealed if we actually get the information if they're not redacting things that are important to us understanding what was revealed in the investigation in. Order to protect Donald Trump it they're not redacting that. Yeah. I still have confidence in Bob Muller. And I will accept the results of that. There still are other investigations that are upcoming. But that's the way I feel about the Muller report. What about you know, I feel the same way? Remember we bought it we paid for it. It's ours. The model report has to be revealed, but congress is also going to proceed with investigations and all of that is entirely appropriate. No, one should think that anyone is out to get Donald Trump. I think what we are out to get is the truth the truth. And that's it. I mean, that's the truth and the truth is harmful to to Donald Trump. So be or not. That's right. So be it. But there are so many, you know, there's so many investigations. And you know, the whole thing where there's smoke there may be fire where there's a whole hell of a lot of smoke. There is likely fire. There's a whole hell of a lot of John. There's no question that there is a lot. The question. And we'll be talking about it tonight. And I'm sure in the days and weeks ahead. I believe so that's John Rothman, he'll be on tonight from six until ten P. I mean, stick six until nine I don't want to keep you here an hour longer than you have you. There's no place. I would rather be. And I believe that entirely. That's John Rothman. I'm Pat Thurston. We're going to have a few more minutes left. Eighty eighty eight ten is the number..

So anyway, but she's she said what she said, you know, but the headlines God wanted Donald Trump to be president without she said, I understand. But without the context, but the your context is just that he wasn't super loud and Bumi and explicit about it. Now, I don't think it was a question of specifying. And and it's what he wanted. He didn't want to say anything. Happy. When God wanted me to be a talk show host. God wanted you not to be one. Wow. God wants you to invite us all that you're super. That's not gonna happen. This is where my aunt is not invited. That's correct. Hey, they supposedly are having bipartisan talks about border security to avoid another government shutdown, but they don't seem to be working hard at it. And I think the ball here's in the Democrats. They've got they've got to come to the table and give Donald Trump something.

"I think it's important that you've don't give up one thing for the other because I think having that balances very important, and and my kids getting to see that. Ramp reaction. So I heard that as well, Erin, and I had a couple of reactions the first one, I'm a working mom myself as you are as there are millions of us in this country. So I do agree with her that there is absolutely a always a work life balance that you have to achieve and that you know, she says she feels the mommy guild. We all feel the mommy guilt when we leave our houses. And and yes, I give her that. Here's the problem with what I had about her saying that to her little girl. She feels it's important that she the her little girl feels that women can achieve everything. Yes, I agree with that too. But Sarah Sanders is going to have to own up to the fact that years from now, she her little girl is going to understand who Donald Trump was and the way that he treated treated women, not just in the White House, but throughout his whole life. How massage misogynistic he has been the kind of language he has used the access Hollywood tape about how he thinks he? Could grab women's genitals. Because he's a celebrity and do nothing about it. I think those are the kinds of things that at some point Sarah Sanders and everybody who believes that Trump is is in this White House to do great things, regardless of whatever else he has done. They're going to have to face themselves face their children and look in the mirror, and and look at what they have done to empower this kind of presidency who frankly as a mother I feel ashamed of who he is. And he will never be a role model to my children, or frankly, the millions of children that are out there at both in the country and in the world, Scott, do you see Apocrypha what Sarah said? Listen to Sarah Sanders words today and first of all I'd like to salute Maria, and you end my wife, who's at home with our four children all these working mothers taking care of these kids doing the best they can do their job and take care of their families in their households. I salute you, it's why I'm able to sit here and Cambridge tonight. And you know, do this stuff that I do appear at the university. But when I hear Sarah Sanders talk about feeling guilty when she has to leave for kids. I feel that same twinge when I leave home, and I have to tell my kids, I'm not going to be home for a couple of days. I don't think it's just mommy guilt. I think it's all parents who were doing their level best to work and take care of their kids feel that same kind of paint, and she's expressing that paint. And I don't understand how anybody could be outraged that anybody would wanna show their kids. I love you. I miss you. And I want to involve you in my life. Now, I'm trying to raise my cat. You have to judge a presidency. Yeah. They will do this. Trump and that may not. But that's what I'm trying to do. And I think that's what stairs trying to get it..

"Look at Trump does talk to the press. You saw him in the rose garden on Friday, and he talked extensively. Well, actually, he didn't take questions. Did he write that was another time? Any time before he was the time before he did not take questions because of course, he just lost the shutdown. And I think that they're, you know, they're trying to regroup and they're and they're trying to see what happens next, obviously, the state of the union will give them a chance perhaps to reset or not. Your point though about how you don't think. It's good for the administration. It was funny as you were saying that my eyes were flicking down a list of the headlines in the Weiwei story popped up, and I pictured Sarah Sanders forcefully making the case that we're through being abused by the Chinese communist government and its lackey corporations. And this is why we're in a wrestling match with the Chinese, and this is something the president is doing that. I happen to agree with completely it seems like a great opportunity to hammer that point and grab some headlines. But you know, like, you say they're hunkered down for for better and worse. And I mean, look at the stories that are happening right now during the briefing yesterday, they talked about Venezuela and the sanctions against Madora. Right. And that's that's a big story. And that's something that I think a lot of people from the left and the right can share the White House for right? We've got these negotiations with Afghanistan and. It's it's amazing. How sensible a policy could seem. Yeah. We don't know. What's in it yet? We don't know how it's gonna work out. But how much they can see what it's not announced on a tweet. Right. Yeah. And and then you're right. This way story they're really getting tough with China in the middle of these trade talks. And and and this these are all great stories. But there's I mean, but the thing is it's hard to take your eyes off the Trump, President Trump show, right? The Trump show if you're gonna cover one story in a day. It's hard to get to the other stuff. When you when you have this when you have all these things happening before your eyes, and and and and how Trump handles the shutdown. I think is going to really give us an idea. Some insight into how the rest of the presidency. We'll go well in a couple of weeks. We'll be talking about you know, the ultimate fruit of the shutdown. I guess with the immigration policy and in the fence barrier while final question from me. This is just a gut question. Debra saunders. Your years of journalism very few years. You're very young. The the the John Bolton's pad with a five thousand troops to Colombia. My I say clearly intended to be seen. I should hope. So. Okay. So if folks are not familiar, you know, the the big waiting at the White House. The press was allowed cameras and stuff and he's holding quite openly a yellow legal pad with practically nothing written on it. But one of the two lines was five thousand troops to Colombia and initially to write down because you might forget. I just remembered it here and I'm asleep deprived talk show host. So yeah, that seemed pretty clear. Yeah. You know, it's funny because there was during a something in the east wing of the White House where they were discussing gun control. Trump had somebody to give him a list of things to do like, basically seem sympathetic, and they're all those things like that. Right. It was not meant to be seen. Yes. I have to believe that this was meant to be sane inferno. Debra j Saunders is the White House. Correspondent for the Las Vegas review journal. Deborah, great to talk to you. Thank you. Thank you, Jack. Thank you. Joe go get him. So they figured out how to play the game they figured out that the press now reads, everybody's post it notes or whatever..

"WGN Chicago, Sarah Sanders at the podium, but only one network that I can see taking it live right L. Fox News CNN SMBC opting, not to take the White House press secretary's. Time at the podium that is weird. Especially because there was a lot of people complaining that they're not giving enough access and they're not making themselves available to then not carry. It might not be move. Yeah. I think it's a bad journalistically. I think it's a bad move for CNN and MSNBC to do this. But because there twenty four hour news channels and the network's never took this stuff live unless it was a really important being a breaking development is very rare that the White House press briefing became anything a regular television event until until cable news started to fill the time. So it was like what are we going? Oh, what the White House is speaking, and it became its own thing. And then they, but then the president tweeted that they were going to stop the briefings. Right. And that is because people just want to become stars on CNN. And they're mean to Sarah Sanders. Right. And I asking the person who's responsible for representing the White House the presidency of the United States. I think that's a pretty big. I think you've got to have pretty thick skin. And you gotta be able to answer questions and not answer things that are. Answer. Respond to questions by answering in a way that is wholly inaccurate. And when you're saying incident, accurate and the reporters search call you out. I saying something that's an accurate then you get mad at them. Because it's the way that the president who likes to play in the sort of in the squishy Nisa facts. It's a good way to put it has this Christmas is a fact fungible, I don't know apparently. So. Now. So. Iran numbers, or whatever it happens to be was interesting about this though is they put up Larry cudlow, Steve Mnuchin, and then Larry cudlow was talking about the economy. Kudlow cuddle already brain heart attack, and I feel badly for him because I like Larry lot. And I don't understand why he chose to do this because there was going to be no, no upside, I think a lot of ways. But and he saw how hard it is. And and maybe did it out of a sense of patriotism and the president asked him, and he wants to do the right thing people. There's a lot of people in the White House that are there for that. But then Larry, but then it has to get up there when you got up in a situation like this where you're at the podium at the press room. If you don't say exactly what the president wants to hear is gonna get a bang. You over the head is gonna go out on Twitter. Did you see what the president said? I must bring this up with the said on Twitter last night or this morning. I'm sorry about Howard Schultz. I did. Yes. Taking aim at him. After his sixty minutes appearance were appears that he certainly flirting with running for president as an independent candidate, not a democrat. Right. Which is a. Total total piece of idiocy. I think to do that. Because that has that worked independence in the past is never worked for independence in the past. And there's the. The whole point of this is that you have to get to a certain number of of electoral college votes in order to do it. This isn't about winning the popular vote as we have now seen a number of three times since nineteen sixty we have seen that happen. So this is not a also unusual. It's a you can't believe it. But it's but the there's an impediment to three people running for president. In a in general, right? David Axelrod, one of the first to line lineup reportedly to tell Howard Schultz not to run it will only hurt the democrat in the race. If he does. And he's been a big democratic supporters, certainly with his money and donate it to those types of political causes. This is what the president tweeted this morning, and I find this very entertaining. Howard Schultz doesn't have the guts in quotes to run for president watch him on watched him on sixty minutes last night..

And as we walk out of the school. Minivan drives by it stops it starts backing up. And my sergeant gets out of the car concerned that somebody wants to cause harm the young guy. Probably seven three three comes running out of the car with a glass vase with flowers in it. And he said this is for you. I said what's this for? And he said because you're my neighbor, and I love you. And I said hold on a minute, and I walk up to the car and I look in the front seat where his mom sitting in the entire front seat is filled with glass, vases with flowers that they're handing out to people all around tree alive. It happened. The next day on Tuesday. When the protests came when President Trump came to visit in the protests was thousands of people who've marks for many different issues the marched against violence against youth by police have marched for social Justice. And as they pass his own for Pittsburgh police station, they stopped and they clap, and they said, thank you. In the police came out, and they hugged and they saw each other. And why was that able to happen? Sure, it was in that evil that people wanted to be good. But it was ten years of building the interfaith dialogue in Pittsburgh, ten years of Jews and Muslims and Christians working together. Ten years of getting to know each other and then becoming friends. It was a mother who taught her son the greatest lesson of taking him out in the van in being able to pass out those flowers and letting him though, the worst time in the most evil, there's something good. You can do it will make you feel better to that. You're going to be helping that person who is unable to deal with that situation. And it was a continual beat of police and community over years and years of interaction that allow people to put themselves in as officers place in let them know after the most traumatic day of their work. The we got your back this time. I stood two weeks later is the community gathered. We follow Jewish law. We allowed for the proper time period after the last funeral before gathering as a community, and we gathered at the point of Pittsburgh where the rivers come together, and we stood there along with people like, MRs Rogers and Franco, Harris and all the luminaries within Pittsburgh in a young minister came up to me. And she told me this. She said it was eighty years ago today. The Kristallnacht happened. It was eighty years ago today, the people burned down synagogues in Czechoslovakia, Germany and Austria in the police look the other way in Pittsburgh. They ran into the buildings with the bullets flying at them. It was eighty years ago today the Jews were killed. In politicians turn their back in Pittsburgh today. We stand shoulder to shoulder democrat and Republican to say never again was eighty years ago today, the community leaders allowed the holocaust to begin in. Pittsburgh today, we stand as one to make sure that we follow what we believe to be the right way, we can defeat hate. I loved our expression stronger than hate and showing the Steelers symbol with David. And it said something about not only Pittsburgh that the response came from around the world, it was more than we were saying that we were stronger than hate we were saying that an attack against one is an attack against all..

"Sarah Sanders briefing at the podium, and that was before the government shutdown even began. That's how long ago it was. So there have been some growing frustrations about this, especially because during the time Sanders and her team doing a lot of interviews on Fox News. And of course, they can choose where they do interviews. But usually it's balanced with those formal question and answer sessions yesterday. The president said he's told not to bother with it anymore because he thinks that she's treated rudely in the coverage is inaccurate. And he says the word will still get out his tweets than many QNA's. He does, but it is different than doing this in that formal setting in the briefing room with regard to the shutdown. We've heard about two dueling bills ending the shutdown. What chance today stand? You know, this is going to be somebody that the Senate moves forward on Thursday. It's unlikely that either proposal measure get the sixty votes needed to pass the first is the Republican back measure that the president permit table on Saturday five point seven billion for the wall. We open the government and extend temporary protection for the undocumented immigrants screamers democrat proposal would open the government February eighth border wall funding, but it doesn't seem like either would hit that sixty vote threshold. So it'll move forward. But really move the ball forward ending the film eight of this has also led to speculation as to win and where the state of the union address might take place anywhere there. Stay tuned that right now the White House signaling they're moving forward to deliver it as planned up on Capitol Hill and the house chamber before members of congress. But there's a couple of things that have happened before that they have to formally get resolution passed in the house and Senate that extend that invitation and that hasn't happened yet. And the administration lava publicly say we're moving forward we're going to do this Tuesday.
