"It's people that are now and that share that with us. So we recognize that. And it's very special it's very special to be part of something that people have connected to. And there's been lots of more television about women and women, women's friendships, and women needing each other and women needing friendships that are not just among women. And I'm thrilled that we were in a contemporary way, you know, kind of one of those first, you know, a first group that was saying, there is commercial viability here, but there's also creative viability. And there's maybe the most important part, there's a human connection that exists. And it was HBO, who didn't care that there was no point of reference. They did not care. And that was the way they functioned. They were like, we don't care that there's nothing we can point to. You go do this. We think we think there's value in this. And so, you know, to see it have kind of the way it's affected people has been very, frankly, touching really, truly. And we all recognize and know it. It's very cool to get to talk to you about it. "And not only that you were married for the entire time you've been associated with the character, but you've said also that when you were single, it's not like this was the sort of lifestyle you were, you couldn't call upon any experiences in your own background to know how to play this character, right? Correct. There was my single life was very, it just wasn't as colorful. And I think, you know, what has allowed for the initially Candice to create those columns was that she was so much from what I understand. She just was braver about being in the world. She was much more comfortable meeting people. And having those dating experiences and I just, I was very slow to that kind of life anyway, 'cause I was working so much. And by the time I was 18 and kind of ready to date, it was like I was starting very behind. Everybody else had left the starting line. And I was catching up. So it always felt that I was, I had been dropped from a kind of from a different planet, frankly. And I think that that's probably something you would hear a lot from kids who worked as actors. And into their young adulthood, when they were sort of given the freedom, they felt ill equipped initially to be among their own age group. And part of it was because we're also very mature in lots of ways. Where people who have been earning our money, you know, I was when I wasn't earning money, I was going to, you know, the unemployment office and you know, I was living in many ways a very adult life, so there were sophistication, and then there was absolute naivete and lack of sophistication socially. So I just didn't date wildly. And I didn't really know how to. I mean, I certainly found my way around another but it's not like I met Matthew and he was the first man I ever dated. But it wasn't nearly as colorful. It certainly nothing to write about. Well, so I guess I wonder if it's possible to sort of step outside of yourself for a moment. I mean, I guess that's what you do all the time as an actress, but in this, in this instance, what I mean is to try to diagnose why did this thing click so much when it did to the extent that here we are almost 25 years after you guys first went on the air or went on HBO and it's people are still super invested in the characters in the story. I guess before you answer though, I wonder if I can just set the scene somewhat because I found that it seems like it maybe can't be coincidental that season one episode one debuts on June 6th, 1998 right in the middle of the Clinton Lewinsky stuff where I don't think people were talking that much about blow jobs and stuff prior to that..

"And that it had a possibility. And so when I got the part, I didn't feel I had to convince beyond the work that I already done. I just had to do my job now and do it well. And I was always nervous about that. And there was ways in which I prepared as best I could to be around him. I watched every movie of his, again, and again, just to see, especially because I thought she could be such a physical person that that would be a point of operation. And that Steve Martin had spent so much of his career operating from physical life. So I worked really hard and when I was on set with him, I simply tried to be what I understood her to be. And the more that I was able to do that, the more Mick Jackson encouraged that, the balancing became a thing. I don't know that it was actually written into the script, but there was something so buoyant about her that at some point I probably said this too often. When we were shooting scenes, Nick Jackson, who I loved, he had a megaphone because we were often in big open spaces and he would say, you know, he'd call he'd say, and Sarah Jessica bounce and action. And like that's how we would start see if he was dead serious. So yeah, so then when Steve Martin, when I could be attractive in the eyes of Steve Martin, all of a sudden, it became okay. Or, well, maybe we can maybe Andy Birdman, maybe he saw that the same way. I can't say because I would never dare have asked him that question. But I know that this is just so people are following. He directed then a year later, honeymoon in Vegas, where it's you with Nicholas cage and James Caan, and it was this run of, I mean, then you're with Johnny Depp in Ed wood in 94..

"I feel terrible about that. Well, you weren't wrong. Things of things have changed a lot since then in television. But partly because of you, but I do, I guess, was the first screen opportunity that entered the picture for you. I don't know if it was the first, but I guess the first important one was square pegs, right? The show on CBS one year, you're a star, one of these two kind of yes. I don't know if nerdy is the right one. It is nerdy. They were nerdy. I think they were actual the definition. Yeah, and you know, there was even there was even big conversations about whether I was going to be allowed to do that. Because actually, before that, when I was an orphan and Annie, my parents were out of town and I can't remember why. But I auditioned for a show, which I gosh, I wish I could remember the name. It was about a little girl and her father, me and max. Do you remember show called me and max? That sounds familiar, yeah. And I auditioned for that show and I got it while my parents were out of town. And my brother pippin was in charge of all of us. And I was like, well, my mom, mommy's not gonna let me do this. Television show, but my mom was out of town, and we sort of we sort of kept having the conversations. I had an agent, a wonderful agent at this agency called the and right agency, which was a wonderful small agency here in New York City, and we just kept moving along, you know, and not sending any red flags to anybody involved in the television show. And finally, I gave my notice that Annie, and I went to, I went to the company manager and, you know, there's a procedure, right? You give two weeks notice. And I said, well, I'm going to leave. I'm going to do a television pilot called me and max. And Martin sharman said, oh, no, you're not. You're one day short of a proper two week notice. And so I thought at the time, well, this actually, this actually keeps me from getting in trouble with my mom. And so I stayed and I became Manny after that, actually. So that remained like there was this tension in my house. So when I got square pegs, it wasn't, it wasn't my mom was not entirely convinced that I should do it. Like it wasn't simply a foregone conclusion that just getting this apartment that I was going to go to Los Angeles and be on television. And it was a huge, very complicated for my family. I had two very young siblings, what were they going to do? How was my mother going to be with me? Because we didn't have child labor laws in New York. We just went around and did we could do three shows at a time and two commercials during the day and a movie after you wrapped it. And so it was going to ask a lot of my family and it took convincing and it was a hardship, frankly, for my family. But I convinced my mother and I think that was because that script was so freaking wonderful. And these undeniably such a special show. And I think Ann beats was such a hugely singular special voice that the words and the text kind of eclipsed my mother's reservations. Well, a quick aside is that I believe in this same time period starting around 1977 and in the years immediately after that, it seems like you were on multiple occasions either competing with or in projects alongside a fellow.

"Work maybe as well as fun? Well, I think first what happened was in Cincinnati, there was our local NBC affiliate, which was called wlw TV. And it was downtown and a big old beautiful building. And I read in a supplement in our local Cincinnati paper, I think it was the Cincinnati post, not the inquirer. I think they had a supplement for kids called the mini page. And there was an advertisement in it that they were auditioning children to play the little match girl in the, so NBC used to make what were their versions of after school specials, and they were on, I think, a couple times a year and they were called young people specials. And they were made by this incredibly talented writer director named Tom Robertson and his exquisitely gifted cinematographer, a man named ilia gopin..

"Where were you born and raised and what did your folks do for a living? Oh, wow, what a nice and refreshing and interesting question. I was born, but not raised. I was born in a very small town in southeastern Ohio called nelsonville. So Nelson bell, Ohio, in a hospital that I think no longer exists. I lived in the Athens area. So that was the hospital that served Athens. Where my parents were involved in the university there. Ohio university lived there for a few years, then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, the big city. And lived there until January 1st of 1977. Moved to New York City on January 1st of 1977 and have lived in New York City since then. My mother was my mother was a school teacher until I'm one of 8 children. So there came a time where it was no longer possible for her to be a teacher, but she still, I think she still sort of conducted life inside the house as if she was a school teacher. And my father, my biological father, was a poet, and a writer, and ultimately he became a businessman, and my stepfather is a truck driver, and is a teamster. Well, in prepping for this, went back as far as I could to find different interviews and profiles and things from over the years. And one of the pieces I came upon, you kind of describe your childhood with 7 siblings and yourself as sort of dickensian. I know you guys, money was tight, and yet somehow you also were very exposed to the arts. So can you explain just set the scene of what it was like growing up in that household? Sure. I think dickensian is probably a rather more dramatic portrait. And it might have been a word, there's some, there's some controversy on who used the word to describe my childhood. But I think probably what I was trying to communicate is that there wasn't a lot of money. And it was that simple. But, you know, my parents, like every parent wants the most for their children. They want a rich and interesting life. My mother really wanted to raise children that were exposed to the arts that she really wanted children that were curious. Interested people. And so while in the conventional sense, we didn't have a lot, and that is accurate. And there were times that were pretty grim in terms of just, I don't know, simple things, frankly, even paying your utility bills. The life was very rich in other ways. And like a lot of people, I think, who were raised in homes where, you know, income was tenuous and unreliable..

What time is it my Friends? It is. Tea time. Have a big breaking story at the top of the show. So Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis have responded to Chris nought's sexual assault allegations. The three stars of Sex and the City issued a joint statement saying the following quote, we are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris nought, the statement is signed by Cynthia Nixon. Sarah Jessica Parker and Christina Davis, they go on to say quote, we support the women who came forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it must be very difficult for them to do so and we commend them for it. Noticeably the XX and the city star can cattrall is not co signing onto this. Although, I guess she probably wouldn't because she's not part of this anymore. It's sort of the least they could do. It's taken them a little while to actually say anything. Goodness knows reporters, including myself, have been calling them emailing their PR people for days to see if they had a comment ever since these allegations were made public. Today or overnight I should say they issued this statement, mister are you surprised they issued a statement? Or do you think it took them a little bit longer than it could have? Well, I think they had to figure out exactly what they wanted to say. And the biggest amount of time you have is between stimuli and response. So they wanted to be thoughtful in their response and this is what they did. I mean, the bottom line is that we have to believe women and we really have to believe black women because if you go back to the early 2000s or even the late 90s, Kris knoff was dating Beverly Johnson and she alleged that he also threatened her when they broke up. And said that he was going to kill her, harm her dog. And nothing came out of that other than the story breaking. So right. We have to believe women. This is such a tragic situation. It's just, it's so upsetting, but, of course, I believe the women, and now more and more are coming out to support what they have said and I'm not sure how Chris Nas is going to handle this, but if you do the crime, you have to pay the time. Yeah, he's also been let go CBS have fired him from the equalizer. He's on that show with Queen Latifah, he has one more episode in the can have already taped it. They are going to air that they issued a statement saying quote, Kris knoff will no longer film additional episodes of the equalizer effective immediate Leah. This is a massive story. We've done this a long time yesterday. We've worked in the entertainment business a long time. My experience with this is once one, two, three, four people start coming forward, many, many more do, now it's whether or not they come forward as a group, individually. I don't think there's many legal legal consequences for this because these alleged actions happened so long ago, but I think there's going to obviously be a consequence to him as far as his career is concerned. It's very, very tricky now for shows like Sex and the City. That show earns hundreds of millions of dollars not only for the stars, but also the producers. Let's remember Sarah's not just the star of Sex and the City. She's the boss. She's the executive producer. Now looking back over those episodes, are they going to be weird to watch them? I have to take a moment and figure out how I feel about it. I love Sex and the City. I've always loved the character of mister big, whether he's been good or bad. And so I don't know if I can watch the show in the same way thinking what I know now. So it's going to be hard and we know that arizon several networks. I mean, basically, you can find sex in the city on any time of day, 24/7 on television. And the question is now, are these networks going to pull it? And again, it is about the money. And it's sad that it's going to affect Sarah Jessica Parker. Who is an executive producer and all the people who have invested in this show. We have to say allegedly because that's always have to say until it's proven. Yeah, and I don't think this is ever going to be proven. There's not going to be a court case. This is always going to be he said she said, although the evidence seems to be a little overwhelming now, many people have come forward three, I think, four, as we speak, probably more will come forward. I'm already hearing bubbling up. More people are considering talking about their time, their experiences with Kris knoff. So we'll keep you definitely in the loop on this story, but let's move along onto something a little bit more happy. So wills and Kate were good in a very sexy flirty exchange which they never ever do. So the gearing up to release their holiday special on ITV it's already been recorded but they're going to release it this week. However, ITV gave a little tease and the teasers are very flirty moment. So this is a big deal because the fact that Kate and William are flirty at all is actually something that they don't do because of royal protocol that two of them are exchanged a real slice. And they looked at each other while Ellie goulding was performing have yourself a merry little Christmas, the two of them looked really, really sexy. I've not seen them, but this intimate yes it's just the look they're not kissing they're not making out. This is not a Kim Kardashian special. But for these two who never ever ever show PDA, it's something. What do you think, mister? Well, they do have what ten kids know. 30 children. So we know that they've done they've been intimate. And I think for Prince William and Kate, they want to show that they're real people. And it's not going to be all the time, but every once in a while, I think they do want to remind us that they're real people. And of course, when you think about prince Harry and Meghan, we've seen them be very loving, very embracing, very supportive of one another. And I think that prince Harry and Kate have noticed that. And they want to show that they are real people too, that they have these moments that their family people love it. I think it's cute. I love it. I love it, which brings us to my poll question of the day. Will and Kate were caught on camera exchanging in a rare, very rare flirty look. Do you like that these two are breaking royal protocol less? Some of you are going to say no, I get it, the traditionalists that listen to the show. Probably don't like this. Well, cops have pulled over Alec Baldwin and his wife after a warrant was issued for his phone. So basically they were pulled over by the police in the Hamptons, two days after investigators issued a search warrant for the actor's cell phone, which could have photos and taxes about the tragedy that happened on his movie set. So he was photographed sitting inside the car while area, his wife spoke with a cop on the side of the road before pulling out her phone and showing the screen. So it's not immediately clear why the couple was pulled over. So Alex was later photographed, he was basically picking up some coffee and snacks while his wife remained in the car. Now, of course, we're still thinking about the death of Helena Hutchins. And her father has come out and he's actually accusing Alex of being partially to blame for Helena stuff. And he said, the father told the sun that he did not understand Alex's claims that he killed Helena without pulling the trigger. And he said he was concerned that the actor had deleted tweets after the tragedy. I mean, this is.

"And I think it becomes more important after they get hanged, like back in the 1700s. Or was it 1600s? 1600s. Because when they come back, they only have until the candle goes down to live. One night. They have one night with the candle until done. And if the chemicals out there out of life. So they needed the life of the children to keep going after them. So originally, it was selfishness. They were all old when we first saw them, and then they sucked life out of. Well, they had like old ish terrible makeup on. And then they wiped it off. Sarah Jessica Parker actually did legitimately look terrifying. But yeah, well, I think that was the biggest contrast. Was Sarah Jessica Parker's character because they made her so because they were just Parker at the time was so young, and such a huge drastic difference. Yeah. So they come back. They want to they want to consume all the children. But it's interesting because how many child souls do they actually need? They're like, oh, they want all the kids in Salem. Yeah. All the children in the same room. That feels so much like a we just need to make our villains really, really evil, right? 1 million. They also definitely the thing where your villain has to reveal their plot or whatever, and then you can thwart them. Well, it's a kids movie, you know? You gotta keep it digestible. It's a kids movie that starts out with a young girl kid killed. But she doesn't kill one. Girl gets killed. So she does, yeah. But I found it interesting because she does not move at all. She does not do anything in her own defense. She just she's not even tied up. Yeah. Well, she's under a spell. Oh, that is fair. Does that makes me feel better? Because at first I was like, wow, maybe do something. Also, it's really funny because when we first come in on the movie, and the witches are gonna suck the soul out of this little girl. Her brother is there thackeray beans, and he is up in the rafters and he has all this time while they're like they're talking and they're making this potion and they're getting some character development, I guess, from the we're getting some exposition about the characters and figuring out who they are because, you know, Bette Midler is the smart one. She's winning winifred. Right. She's the one in charge. Yes. And then we have the super dotty, but attractive, Sarah Jessica Parker. A little childish. Yeah. Very childish. What I want to get to in a minute. And then we have Mary who is comedic relief. In a tree. She's the more caring, I think she's the most caring which, but she's also just a little bit out of it. She doesn't really know what's going on. And it's interesting because clearly these women have been alive for a long time already at this point to have these very weirdly immature personalities..

He also addressed he's a strange wife's recent SNL monologue where she expressed pride in west's career and their children but joked she divorced him because of his personality. You know, so it's like I'm not the bad guy. They're the bad guys. Even though I had everything to do with everything that I'm talking about right now. My sources are telling me he's just furious about this whole pizza thing. And the painting really isn't as much as we think. Yes, they saw each other several nights here in New York City. They went out to statin island. They went to this private club zero Bond. They're not together together. I'm going to take you to Staten Island. You and I are going to go to companion. Pete Davidson had one of those like, oh wow, I'm Pete Davidson in this moment where he's having dinner with Kanye and Jay-Z and in a New York City restaurant. So it's like, it is such a weird and then over the weekend too, I'm sure you saw people fans of Kim's and the whole Kardashian clan were looking at Kris Jenner's karaoke party and they saw little glimpse of blond hair and they were like, Pete was there. You know, it is amazing how it just can I tell you a theory. I've been thinking about rob shooter and this is just a theory. My theory alone. So as we know, before Kim Kardashian took over a host of SNL for the second episode of the new season. There was the stories that Kris Jenner and Lauren Michaels sat down to have a discussion. You really don't hear Lauren Michael sitting down with Brad Pitt or George Clooney or host of SNL to discuss normally it's an email thing. Part of me thinks that this might be a little bit fabricated of what we're all falling into with Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson. I'm not sure I could that far, although he doesn't need permission from SNL from NBC to be on Kim's new reality show, which is on ABC Hulu. It's not on. It's not an E which is part of the family. It's on a different network now and he's got a what about his hair about just his hair? And he was here this weekend, but I did find suspicious and I want your opinion about Garrett is why were there no Kim and Peter jokes on Saturday night? I was waiting for I had the whole weekend update planned out. I'm telling you, rob Schurter, I was envisioning Pete Davidson sitting down, Colin Jost brings a mangoes. So Pete, how is your week? Was there a river of analyzing this yesterday throughout the night throughout the Afternoon, and then it reached a fever pitch when Sarah Jessica Parker jumped on her own Instagram and a few other people's Instagram. Uh, and started replying to a couple comments and a couple questions one of them the number will obviously the number one question everyone's asking about this is about Kim control. And her character of Samantha. How are you going to do this? Without Samantha and and Sarah Jessica Parker responded, she goes happy to see you both. This is what one of the viewers wrote happy to see you back, but we'll miss Samantha. And Sjp replied, We will, too. We loved her so And then she continued, she goes, She will always be there, and we're so excited and in another another post, Sjp said, because one of the viewers wrote That? Hey, I've heard these rumors that you disliked can control And, uh, Sjp when on that one and said, No, I don't dislike her. I've never said that. Never would. Samantha isn't part of this story. And so when you hear that type of thing, and then now we're here. Fast forward without her. What more is there to say? And it is also kind of and look we will never, ever ever know what really went on, and I've spent a good amount of time on this show busting on Kim control mainly out of place of disappointment. Because I'm a fan that would like to see her back. So I've so I've spent more time being on Sjp side. But even if the but we will never know what really happened between those two. I don't think we ever really will. And I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. I think there's probably fault on both sides. I bet there was a mountain of miscommunication. I bet there were regrets. I bet there were things said and done that both wish they could change. But sometimes you know, you can't rebuild the bridge. The bridge has been destroyed and you can't rebuild it. Having having said all of that. I'm gonna defend Sjp a little bit here. Not that not from you, Lex. But just in general, this is really a damned if you do damned If you don't moment for escapee, there's nothing she could say that will satisfy all the people that are team Kim. And just being frustrated about being single in New York City, and all the good guys are taken. It's very cute. I love it because each character You can tell they're they from the beginning were careful about how they developed each character. They're very distinct, You know, indifferent, So that's that's interesting. I like it so far talking sex in the city if you just two dead yet don 1998 June 6 1998. The show has a new name. It's called and just like that. The other big changes. That kim cottrell will not be back. As samantha. super surprise about that part of it. But you guys here for this look. I think everybody has been waiting for this to happen for a very long time. Where that you like. The series are not whether you like the movies are not you know a character. You still know which character that you are. This show holds a place. And everybody's heart. I don't care who you are man ads. but also what if your character doesn't come back. Like i'm a combination of carrying samantha. So half of me is no longer in this series. And i think you know what i mean like me. That really upsets me. I i found out about this late yesterday was like what's going on. I didn't fully understand what was going on. I'm here for it. But the fact that they're trying to use a different title and try to differentiate from sex in the city as much as possible. I just feel like is the juice worth the squeeze like you have such an iconic franchise you did the show for however many seasons. You have two movies the second movie we let pass because whatever we're super fans and we didn't care as much as we should now to revamp it in like a smaller scale with only three of the women when it's really about the four of them and then also to know that whatever feud has gone on behind the scenes is so bad that somebody will not return sort of just jolts. I don't know the the magic of it all a little bit. Like do people want no samantha. In this show one time samantha. But i i. I love the other girls enough that i told him away without her own. No the problem is the show is called. Sex city remarried broadband. We know nobody's having sex in that city. Okay so give me somebody. I need you to cast somebody. 'Sex and the City' is coming back -- but it's missing one key character
"John. Were you a sex and the city fan are not necessarily but I think I'm going to go back. I watched episodes here and there, but I wasn't like it considered.
